The Battle of Gorgontyr

Dalelad (DM Dave)  d20+16=33 d20+16=18 d20+16=27 d20+18=24
Thursday August 23rd, 2001 8:57:26 AM

Sharing the same knowledge as Nonam, the halfling thinks back and recalls that the nearest known dead magic zone is up Sunblade Street, at Ciaran's temple. He doesn't know much about magic, but thinks it strange that some of the bags of holding aren't working, and others are.

Dalelad announces, "I'll scout up near the entrance, just to check on traps and guards."

He sneaks across the street. (Search=33, Spot=18, Disable Device=27, Listen=24)

[OOC: Yep, I've been pulling an earlier shift than usual up at work, and the same holds true for much of next week (Yawn).]

Gareth (Bull's Strength +5)
Thursday August 23rd, 2001 4:27:52 PM

The warrior frowns at all his stuff being on the ground. He quickly grabs all the potions and the gems, downs a bull strength potion, and stuffs them into his pack. He pulls out any stuff he has to in order to make them fit. "Anyone want a 50' rope?"

Cantos
Friday August 24th, 2001 1:29:42 AM

Cantos smiles when he realizes that none of his items are on the ground," finally something is going my way" well if we are going to do this then I guess we should be off Cantos then pulls out his bow and adjusts his quivers around so that he has the best position available

Qualde
Friday August 24th, 2001 3:35:34 AM

Wordlessly, Qualde stuffs her brother's remaining gear into her pack and shoulders it again. She waits for the word to follow Dalelad into the entrance to The Gorgontyr.

Be Prepared (DM Dave)
Friday August 24th, 2001 7:27:42 AM

Dalelad notes with satisfaction that the entryway seems clear of any obstacles. A strong odor of incense wafts from the opening.

Once everyone is ready, Nonam casts Weave Mythal (for the next six rounds, spells and magic items may be used without inhibitions or wild surges):

Chugging his potion, Gareth immediately feels strength flowing into his limbs.

Onrad, trying to go invisible, remains visible. Likewise, when Nonam attempts to give Onrad increased strength, nothing happens.

Runnig over to Nonam, Dalelad complains, "My boots aren't working, neither."

Gareth
Friday August 24th, 2001 11:28:24 AM

The warrior sees everyone is ready and begins to make his way to the entry way. He tries his boots of flying to see if they will lift him off the ground in this place - but only a few inches before landing and continuing to move forward through the entryway. "Guess it's time we get rolling."

Nonam
Friday August 24th, 2001 11:56:49 AM

"Hold on guys. We have a few more minutes to get ready. 30 feet around me should be normal. I have no idea why some things aren't working."
Nonam starts zapping party members with his wand. Cantos this round. Qualde, Addenin, Onrad, and Tericus to follow.

Note from DM Dave
Monday August 27th, 2001 5:08:08 AM

{Due to the system outage this weekend, today's turn will not be run until this evening.]

Tericus
Monday August 27th, 2001 9:22:56 AM

"What kinds of protection do you all want? I can do just about anything."

Qualde
Monday August 27th, 2001 2:57:35 PM

With a sinking feeling, Qualde casts Detect Magic and examines the aurae of items that she knows to be magical. If her suspicions are confirmed, and all of the group's magic equipment has become disenchanted, the dark elf explains the problem and says, "Have only three protect spells. Does any here have magic weapon spells?"

Addinein
Monday August 27th, 2001 3:05:02 PM

Casting quickly, Addinein returns the favor and casts shield up everyone in the party. (movable shield (forward or behind) +7 AC +3 to reflex saves - 5 minutes). As the party gets ready to move afterwards, Addinein will also cast cat's grace.

Things that Make You Go 'Hmmm' (DM Dave)  d20+11=12 d20+9=25 d20+8=12 d8+2=8 d8+2=7
Monday August 27th, 2001 8:02:52 PM

Gareth's boots fails to lift him from the ground.

Nonam realizes that he's not getting any magical readings off of anything with his vision. The wand doesn't appear to be working at all.

As if in confirmation, Qualde's detect magic gets only limited readings. A quick review of the ones she spots as having that 'special' glow:

On Addinein - the scrolls
On Cantos - the gloves
On Dalelad - the potions and the ring
On Gareth - the potions that had been in the bag of holding and his sword
On Nonam - his robe (and presumably all its contents), one dagger (Paunch), and the black oak staff given by Ciaran
On Onrad - one potion only (oil of acid resistance)
On Qualde - her ring only
On Tericus - nothing

Addinein successfully casts his spells.

Dalelad, who has moved back over to continue scouting at the entryway of Gorgontyr, makes a discovery: We are not alone. An arm hidden in shadows lashes like lightning, slamming the thief backward. Dalelad quickly learns that his magical protections aren't what they used to be.

Cantos
Monday August 27th, 2001 9:04:36 PM

Cantos casts mage armor on himself. "I hope this works." Seeing Dalelad knocked backwards he hisses to the others, "We have a visitor," and prepares to draw his bow.

Gareth (Bull's Strength +5, +7 shield, cat's grace[?])  d20+20=38 d20+20=37 d10+19=27 d10+19=20 d20+20=27 d20+20=31 d10+19=24 d10+19=26
Monday August 27th, 2001 9:50:27 PM

Magic or no, the warrior falls on the attacker hoping that swords still cut. He immediately and without hesitation cuts into "the arm" guy twice with his two-handed attack. He nails the foe soundly with both strokes. (Hit AC 48, 42 for 47 dmg - both critical hits. Critical attacks hit AC 37 and 41 for 50 dmg = 97 DMG)

Addinein
Tuesday August 28th, 2001 8:21:13 AM

Trying to gauge what is going on, Addinein holds back his attack in order to gauge Gareth's effectiveness. If there are no other incoming attacks from any other quarter, and if there is something still left to attack, and the others don't demolish the tentacle, then Addinein will move in and add his part to the attack.

(ooc so with your post then, no magic armor, no magic weapon with keen edge, and nothing else. (rolling eyes) ;) )

Shadow Magic (DM Dave)
Tuesday August 28th, 2001 3:26:04 PM

Gareth springs at Dalelad's assailant, but the shaded arm is faster, withdrawing into the opening of impenetrable darkness. Belatedly, the irritable thief joins in on Gareth's attack, but only stirs more darkness.

Cantos successfully casts his spell.

Gareth (Bull's Strength +5, +7 shield, cat's grace[?])
Tuesday August 28th, 2001 4:17:33 PM

The warrior looks the halfling over to make sure he's OK. He nods to the others who were preparing to support the attack.

Drawing his second sword, the warrior grimly says "Somehow I don't think we're going to enter here unannounced. I'd say we'd best just get in there and get it on before they have too much time to prepare. Nonam, anything else we need to do before we go? Anyone else?"

Cantos: Mage armor, bullstr?
Tuesday August 28th, 2001 9:57:16 PM

Cantos looks around bewildered then looks towards the door. "I agree we should move quickly and be prepared for battle." He then draws his bow and nocks an arrow, "I am ready."

Qualde (Shield, Bull's Strength +5)
Wednesday August 29th, 2001 12:21:11 AM

Qualde takes a last moment while Nonam's spell holds out to cast Bull's Strength on herself. Gripping her morningstar firmly in one black fist, she nods and follows Gareth toward the darkness of the entrance.

Tericus
Wednesday August 29th, 2001 10:03:42 AM

Tericus moves over to Gareth and pulls out his mace. "Ill watch your back." he says to him

Cantos  d20+3=11 d20+3=22
Wednesday August 29th, 2001 1:59:47 PM

Cantos follows Gareth towards the door, " I will use this for now better to hit from a distance and live than try and mix it up up close and deplete our healing abilities."

(spot 11 listen 22)

Welcome Committee (DM Dave)
Wednesday August 29th, 2001 2:40:32 PM

The group plunges into the preternatural darkness filling the opening into Gorgontyr.

Gareth abruptly notes that his quickness has not been magically enhanced, contrary to hope.

Within the span of a second, the gloom lifts as the group stumbles into the ruins of a huge, single hall that was apparently the main meeting area during better days. Rubble from above has rendered the place into a maze of three and four foot high walls, enabling the group an unobstructed view all the way to the back end of the room, some 250 feet distant. Walls to either side make the room 100 feet wide. A large individually sits in a recess at the far end, gazing upon you with a passive stare. However, navigating through the boulders would take some time, and the people awaiting the Three at the entrance intend on making such a trip unneccessary.

The enemy, well-positioned behind good cover, begins the assault:

Round 1 (Enemy) (DM Dave)  8d6(6+4+6+5+5+4+3+4)=37 d20+17=30 d20+12=28 d20+7=11 2d4(4+4)+10=18 2d4(2+2)+10=14 d20+11=15 d10=5 d4+2=4 d20+18=25 d20+13=18 d20+7=21 d6+2=4 d10=8
Wednesday August 29th, 2001 3:22:58 PM

From behind a boulder some 75 feet distant, a snake-headed lady [Aren't they all - grin] unleashes a bolt of lightning as soon as Gareth emerges from the darkness [All in the group must save vs. Reflex DC 16 for half (remember that most of your magic bonuses no longer apply), otherwise take 37 points of damage] filling your nostrils with ozone and burnt hair.

From the left side of the entryway, an individual of decidely orcish persuasion lays into the warrior with guisarme, managing to connect twice into Gareth's left leg [32 points of damage].

To Gareth's right, the obvious originator of the attack on Dalelad earlier, a female clothed in shadows, falls onto the leader of the Three with a fury, flanking him while slashing across his right arm with a serrated dagger [save vs. DC 14 Fortitude to avoid poison Con loss of 5 points - takes 4 points dmg from the blade].

To the left of the snake-headed lady, another female casts magic at Gareth [Will check DC 16 to avoid being Held]

To the right of the snake-headed lady, a woman of grotesque visage (and green skin, for what it matters) flings a torrent of arrows at Gareth, with the Shield spell stopping all but one of the bolts [4 points of damage, and DC 14 Fortitude check to avoid 8 points of Con loss].

[Current status: The group is bottle-necked behind Gareth, who stands at the opening to the room. The last four people in the group are stranded in darkness.]

Gareth (+5 Bull's Strength, +7/+3 Shield)  d20+10=18 d20+10=20 d20+4=21 d20+20=34 d20+19=24 d20+15=25 d20+10=17 d10+14=20 d10+14=20 d6+7=8 d6+7=9 d20+10=19
Wednesday August 29th, 2001 4:37:57 PM

The warrior grits his teeth as he is hit by the bolt but he deftly avoids the full force of the blast (18 sv). He then takes his lumps from the orc guy with little trouble but gasps as he fights off the coldness that comes over him from the assault from the shadow woman (20 sv). He recovers his composure just in time to successfully fight off the hold spell (21 sv.) and get hit by the arrow, which he ignores (19 sv - rolled last, I failed to see the request for roll). He responds with grace as he moves forward far enough for those behind him to move into the fray - without breaking contact with those closed on him. He turns and decides to apply all his attacks on the shadow being hopefully ending her ability to poison him further. (Hit AC 34,24,25,17 for 20+20+8+9=57 DMG)

Nonam  d20+7=26 10d6(6+6+4+6+4+5+3+4+6+4)=48
Wednesday August 29th, 2001 6:03:40 PM

Nonam avoids the full effects of the lightning and then he returns fire. Using his secret knowledge, the wizard casts an empowered fireball behind the baddies and hopefully far enough away that he doesn't burn Gareth too bad.

(48*1.5 = 72 dmg, reflex for 1/2, DC 20)

Onrad  d20+7=22
Wednesday August 29th, 2001 6:06:58 PM

Throwing himself flat to avoid the lightning, Onrad glugs down a potion of fly and attempts to take to the sky to get over Gareth.

Qualde (Shield, BS +5)  d20+7=9 d20+11=25 d8+6=11
Thursday August 30th, 2001 12:25:28 AM

Qualde grits her teeth and shudders as she takes the full force of the lightning bolt (Reflex=9). Following closely behind Gareth, she quickly describes the opposition for those still in the dark. "Two flanking entrance, polearm on left. Two casters 75 feet ahead, with one archer."

The priestess presses to the left, Fighting Defensively (+2 AC) to get inside the reach of the guisarme and attack its wielder with her morningstar. (hit AC 25, 11 damage)

Addinein (Shield +7/+3 reflex, BS +5) (AC 34)  d20+11=15 d20+11=24 d20+8=15 d20+8=11 d20+7=27 d20+7=25 2d6(3+5)+4=12 2d6(1+1)+4=6
Thursday August 30th, 2001 3:18:10 AM

Responding out of reflex (15) to the danger, Addinein tries to avoid the lightning. (sheesh. Hero point expended to reroll! ;) )(24). Avoiding the majority of the damage, Addinein decides to take advantage of the darkness, and move down the left side wall, moving silently (15) and hiding in shadows (11). Using his expertise, Addinein dodges defensively into place against the orcish looking thing. (just to recap, for my sake. padded armor Ac=+1, buckler Ac=+1, dex Ac=+5, shield Ac=+7, expertise for this round Ac=+5, dodge against orish Ac=+1, mobility Ac+4 against orcish as move into threat range.) Wanting to test the opponents skill, Addinein takes only a light swipe (choosing one attack only) at Mr orcish scoring a crit threat (27(20+7) with (25) as follow up)(at least) for (either 12 or 18) points of damage. (Let me know via e-mail if I get anything wrong :) )

Dalelad (DM Dave)
Thursday August 30th, 2001 6:41:44 AM

Trapped behind the group in the darkness, the thief downs one of his curing potions, hoping it works. He waves his hands to clear away the stench of fried friend flesh, which temporarily overcomes the smell of his feet.

Speaking of feet, they are starting to become mighty sweaty during the current excitement. And note being able to put on foot powder is starting the get Dalelad riled!

Tericus  d20+4=7 5d8(2+4+4+4+6)+11=31
Thursday August 30th, 2001 9:39:39 AM

getting hit head on by the bolt of lightning, Tericus takes a moment to clear his head then he moves behind Gareth and begins chanting. a moment later some of Gareth's wounds dissappear(hopefully- cast cure serious wounds for 31 pts back)

Cantos  d20+12=13 d20+12=27 d20+14=22 d20+9=27 d20+12=25 d8+2=3 d8+2=7 d8+2=7
Thursday August 30th, 2001 3:50:08 PM

Cantos manages to take only half damage from the lightening bolt(hero point to reroll. Cantos then steps up to behind Gareth and to the right to prevent him being flanked and losens 3 arrows at the archer hoping to end her threat on the party( AC 22,27,25 for 3, 7, 7 points of damage) Cantos also starts to sing a song of battle stiring their bolld and guiding there hands to strike their foes( starting next round +1 to all saves and +1 to attack and damage rolls)

Incoming (DM Dave)
Thursday August 30th, 2001 4:36:31 PM

[Tired eyes turned to gaze back at the forest, searching for signs of the mysterious stranger standing there only moments earlier. No luck. Remembering the details of the short journey ahead, the cloaked figure began darting from shadow to shadow, keeping a wary eye on a flock of flying serpents arching overhead. “Let’s see: That must be Scholar’s Hope up ahead on the right...”]

From the far end of the room, the behemoth stirs from his sitting position, and rises with a bellow, drawing quick looks from our heroes. The being, 15’ tall, has ears webbed and tentacled, and a trunk for a nose terminating in a huge flaring disk at least a foot in diameter. A human body dangles from this disk, as if stuck to it, but this does not seem to be a burden to the creature. Its human hands end in claws. Its shoulders are broad and square, and its breasts and enormous stomach slope outward, cushioning the trunk. It begins charging toward the battle at incredible speed, knocking huge boulders out of the way as if they were pebbles. Reaching the halfway point, it tosses the now-shriveled corpse form its nose as it continues making its way to the entrance.

Round 1 (Heroes' Response) (DM Dave)  d20+8=24 d20+10=19 d20+17=29
Thursday August 30th, 2001 5:13:42 PM

Gareth’s target is well chosen, as she is the only one not currently using boulders as coverage. Connecting on three of his blows, he notes her eyes furrow in pain.

Nonam drops a fireball on the two spellcasters, the archer, and the charging ‘god’. The magical fire has a decided impact upon the enemy, but, not surprisingly, leaves the behemoth unscathed.

Onrad, gulping his potion, realizes that its potency has been rendered inert.

Qualde attempts to get under the orc’s guard, but is driven back by a flurry of blows (see Round 2 (Enemy) below).

Due to the bottle neck, none of the other heroes are able to make their way through the opening and into the room. Addinein successfully hugs the walls of the short hallway, but is unable to slip inside and join the combat. Dalelad manages to gulp his potion in the dark. Tericus is unable to reach Gareth to cast his spell (spell not used or lost). In the dark, Cantos fires arrows blindly, hoping to peg someone further out in the room, and begins his song of battle to hearten his comrades.

Round 2 (Enemy) (DM Dave)  d20+11=24 d4+2=5 d10=3 d20+17=19 d20+12=15 d20+7=11 2d4(2+3)+10=15
Thursday August 30th, 2001 5:38:21 PM

The lady of shadows returns Gareth’s attack with a slash of her dagger [save vs. DC 14 Fortitude to avoid poison Con loss of 3 points - takes 5 points dmg from the blade].

On the other side (behind Gareth) the orc-man, using his coverage to good advantage, engages Qualde with a series of thrusts, managing to connect once [15 points of damage], keeping the dark elf's weapon beyond her target.

Spells are cast by the three women in the back (the archer has dropped her bow):

Onrad - Will check DC 17 to avoid Suggestion to make a tactical retreat, causing a further bottle neck in the dark passage.

Dalelad, Cantos, Addinein, and Tericus (plus Onrad if he failed above) - Reflex check DC 15 to avoid beng immobilized by Web springing up in darkened doorway [Note spell description indicates to save means not immediately stuck, but must still slowly navigate through peril - difficult to do in the dark].

The green-faced hag disappears from view [Nonam unable to spot her].

The charging 'god' will join combat next round.

Gareth (+5 Bull's Strength, +7/+3 Shield, +1/+1 Chant)  d20+11=22 d20+20=33 d20+17=34 d20+20=31 d20+16=19 d20+11=25 d10+15=25 d10+15=24 d10+15=25 d6+8=13 d6+8=14 d20+20=23 d10+15=25
Thursday August 30th, 2001 7:04:48 PM

The warrior fights off the poison again as he tries to finish the hag before she can attack again (sv 22). Having had some time to set before attacking this time, he is much more effective with his strokes and does much more damage (Hit AC 35,34,31[crit],19,25 for 25+24+25+13+14=101 DMG).

Looking up he grits his teeth and prepares for the 'real' battle' as he tries to make room for the others to get in (Are we going to get a map? thx). "Great, we make a 15' friend and get to fight one too.".

(OOC: If the hag falls he turns and uses whatever attacks are left on the orc guy - plus one "Great Cleave" attack - AC 23, 25 DMG)

Nonam (contingency)
Thursday August 30th, 2001 8:22:01 PM

Hoping to slow the behemoth, Nonam casts a Wall of Force to screen it from getting to the heroes. He also keeps an eye for the disappearing hag.

Onrad  d20=17 d20+18=22
Thursday August 30th, 2001 8:24:28 PM

Onrad avoids the power of the suggestion. Then he draws his rapier and looks for a way that he can tumble past Gareth and hopefully join the fray.

[tumbling at DC 22]

Cantos  d20+12=16
Friday August 31st, 2001 9:07:52 AM

Cantos manages to spring back from the web in time to avoid getting stuck in hit and scowls at teh fact he can't help his allies in battle. " move back from the web I can get a torch out and burn it" Cantos then retrieves his tinderbox and torch out from his pack.

Dalelad (DM Dave)  d20+14=26
Friday August 31st, 2001 9:56:00 AM

The thief manages, somehow, to avoid getting caught in the strands. He yells to Cantos, "Whaddya mean, move back from the web?" Still in the darkened, web-filled, hallway, he uses his mace to feel the way ahead, working slowly toward the battle.

Qualde (Shield, Bull's Strength)  d20+9=25
Friday August 31st, 2001 5:06:33 PM

Beyond irritated by the slowup, Qualde continues to call descriptions for those caught in darkness. She works her way around the orc's protective boulders until she crouches on the opposite side of the westward one from him. She sets her back against it, digs her heels into the filthy floor and, with a cry of, "Domi, lend me your strength!" the dark elf shoves with all her might (Feat of Strength, Strength check = 25, or 28 if Bull's Strength effect stacks), trying to crush the guisarme's weilder against the outer wall).

Round 2 - Heroes' Response (DM Dave)  d20+8=12 d20+4=21
Saturday September 1st, 2001 4:24:59 PM

Gareth’s opponent soundlessly drops to the floor, hewn in three pieces. The positioning of the boulders prevents a follow through into the orcish opponent.

The godling makes a satisfying SMACK sound as it rams into Nonam’s invisible wall, which the mage barely manages to get up in time.

Onrad easily manages to flip past Gareth and his downed opponent, placing him north west of Nonam’s Wall [The Wall of Force is shortened in length due to the clutter of boulders throughout the room].

Cantos springs backwards, ending up in the street outside of the building and the darkness, where he makes fire readily available and begins burning his way inward [Able to clear 5 feet per round = will require 3 rounds total].

Unable to work her way to the intended western boulder, Qualde flings her strength against the boulder nearest the entryway, managing to get it rolling southward. Unexpectedly, the odd shape of the rock causes it to rock westward, preventing a direct southern movement, but opening up a gap at the wall near the entrance.

Addinein fails to avoid the appearance of webbing in the darkened hallway, and finds himself ensnared [Must make STR check DC 20 to break loose]

Tericus, luckily, manages to avoid being snared, although he is surrounded by webbing that he cannot see.

Dalelad manages to navigate forward 5 feet [Will be able to enter room next round].

Round 3 - Enemy (DM Dave)  d6=6 d20+16=20 d20+16=17 d4+4=5 d4+4=6 2d4(3+3)=6 2d4(3+3)=6
Saturday September 1st, 2001 4:58:23 PM

The godling fixes Nonam with a baleful gaze as it flips it trunk-like appendage upward, placing the disk end against the invisible Wall. At the same time, it clenches its right hand into a fist, and Nonam's heart skips a beat [Literally: Make Fortitude check DC 23 to avoid cardiac arrest (death). Success requires a second Fortitude check DC 23 to avoid losing 6 Con points and falling unconscious from the strain.]

Surprised by Qualde's move, the orc quickly finds himself cut off, preventing a return attack against the dark elf. He turns his attention to defending the new opening created by the wall, preparing to take a poke at Nonam next round.

The green-faced hag suddenly reappears, clawing at Onrad [Rolled to hit AC 20 and 17 for 5 and 6 points of damage, respectively, and requiring two Fort check DC 13 to avoid strength loss of 6 points each - this was a surpise attack and Onrad's armor ls ineffective - pls advise what skills/abilities he uses to avoid attack].

The snake-headed lady begins shooting magic missles, but these are stopped by the Wall of Force.

The other female spell-caster takes a shot from her potion bottle, clearing up some of her burn wounds.

Cantos
Sunday September 2nd, 2001 1:56:22 PM

Cantos continues singing while burning his way inward. If he come across one of his comrades he will attempt to burn around them.

Addinein  d20+4=13
Monday September 3rd, 2001 2:21:23 AM

Addinein struggles against the confinement of the web. He worries about not knowing what is happening to his sister.

[with a surprise attack, you don't get dex but you do get armor, right? Without a magic bonus to the armor or dex, Onrad's AC is 12)

Onrad takes his lumps but avoids the strength loss. He wastes no time in returning the favor and attacks with his rapiers.

[He hits AC 18,12,24 (possible crit, but 2nd attk only hits 9),&16 for possible damages of 8,13,13,&9.]

Monday September 3rd, 2001 10:56:27 PM

Seeing his friend Nonam fall he turns and silently but quickly closes on the orcs position. He drops his short sword near Nonam and rushes straight to the orc looking guy - taking whatever attacks necessary to get to him. With a mighty war cry he brings his sword directly down on the creature with all his might (Power attack feat using +10 to hit & +18 DMG; two-handed single weapon attack - primary weapon). [Hit AC 27,28{crit} for = (8+18+18.5) + (6+18+18.5) = 87 DMG].

He bellows in rage "Get in here guys! We need you now!".

Qualde (BS, Shield)  d20=13

"Keep north coming in," Qualde calls, hoping that the rest of their companions are alive somewhere in the darkness to hear her. "Nonam down. God due west and close."

Seeing Gareth bearing down on the orc's fortified position, the priestess adjusts her crouch and cups her hands. She draws his attention with a shouted, "Gareth!" and gives him a boost to vault up onto the boulder so that he can reach his opponent. (Roll? d20=13)

Continuing the motion, she snags Nonam's shoulder and drags him out of the orc's reach, into the southwest corner created by the nearby boulders. Husking a quick prayer to Caeroldra, Qualde attempts to heal some of the mage's burns, and hopefully revive him. (swap Shield Other for CLW, 18hp)

Round 3 - Heroes' Response (DM Dave)  2d4(2+1)=3 d20=16 d100=36
Tuesday September 4th, 2001 7:14:15 AM

Briefly, the keen elf-sight spotted a flicker of flame up ahead along the darkened street. Hurrying ahead he arrived at the entryway, obviously filled with magically enhanced darkness, and heard the sounds of battle emanating from within.

Cantos, striding and singing, makes his way inward. Tericus hears him coming, but is unaware of the presence of flames, due to the lack of light. [Take 3 points of damage from the heat as the webs turn to smoke around the priest].

Addinein continues to struggle at the threshold of the battle, while Dalelad manages to finally slip free and head southward into the opening Qualde called out earlier. However, his advance is stopped by the orc's guisarme, which focuses on the thief when Nonam falls.

The distraction allows Qualde time to flip Gareth up on the boulder and drag Nonam over for healing. [Nonam awakens, but is weakened due to Con loss - gained hit points from the healing (for lightning damage) and lost 33 hps from lowered Con - new total 38?].

Gareth catches the orc off-guard, successfully striking downward from his higher position.

Northward, in the fight between Onrad and the Hag, the dexterity master appears to have met his match, as the enemy goes into a flurry of motion, avoiding all swings of the rapiers.

Tuesday September 4th, 2001 7:47:07 AM

With a silent shock-wave, the Wall comes down, and the two boulders immediately in front of the ‘god’ fly forward – the one directly ahead slams into Qualde, Nonam, and Dalelad before lodging itself into the opening, smacking Addenien loose from the webbing. The other boulder careens northeast, smashing into Onrad [All five need to make Reflex DC 15 to take half damage, otherwise receive 19 points of damage]

The orc rages, and takes a poke at Dalelad [Hit for 19 points of damage] before taking a sweep at Gareth’s feet [Here is one of those if-then statements – Gareth needs to make an opposed STR roll (d20 + STR modifier) vs DC 10 to avoid being tripped and poked for 20 points of damage. If he fails, also takes additional 15 points from second strike. However, if he avoids first strike, is able to do automatic return trip attack against orc (roll d20+STR modifiers) and beat a DC 27 to trip the orc and get a free attack. However, if fail to trip on this return attack, orc makes second trip attempt against Gareth (avoid trip DC 13 – I keep making sorry rolls) or receive 15 points from prodding by the orc. If make successful trip avoidance, Gareth can return yet a second trip attempt on orc vs. DC 18 to bring down his foe]

Taking advantage of the distraction caused by the crashing boulders, the green hag swipes at Onrad with her claws [Manages to only hit once – what’s with all these sorry rolls! – 8 points of damage and DC 13 Fort save to avoid 5 points of STR loss].

Realizing missiles are basically useless, the snake-headed lady begins making her way to the combat between Onrad and the green hag [Will reach melee next round], drinking a potion on the way.

The other spell caster drinks a second potion, healing up even more burn damage, and moves as well, disappearing behind a boulder.

Tericus  d100=89

"Enough of this." Tericus says as he begins to cast. a moment later he moves through the web as if it isnt there, making his way towards Gareth's voice(cast spell immunity, immune to one specific spell every 4 levels, immune to web spell and lightning bolt spell, lasts 100 minuets) "Im coming for you!" he yells out

Round 3 leftovers... The warrior avoids being tripped by the orc with an amazing display of control (30!) but fails to take down his foe (17). As the orc tries again to take him out the warrior not only avoids the blow (20) but uses the orcs own momentum to bring him to the ground (24). He then once again brings his sword down on the nuisance with a massive powerful attack (Power attack - +10 to hit, +18 DMG = 10+18+18.5=46.5)...

Round 4 - The warrior continues to press his attack in an effort to finish off the orc (unless he's already dead in which case he moves around behind the rock to the rear of the godling and drinks a potion of extra healing - 28 HP). He uses his 2 handed power attack and once again cleaves into the orc with fury (Hit AC 29,27,17[Crit],17[Crit], for 40.5+44.5+44.5+46.5=176 DMG! I love these new feats...).

NOTE: If he moves, he makes sure and not be readily seen from the north or south before imbibing.

Tuesday September 4th, 2001 1:29:26 PM

Easily avoiding the brunt of the damage from the boulder, Dalelad looks around and only sees one target - the god! (assumes the orc was downed by Gareth's massive damage). With a muttered prayer to Ciaran, he begins firing his crossbow. His attacks are apparently ineffective, as the bolts harmlessly bounce off the thick rubbery hide of the creature. He yells, "Guys, I don't have enough magic to hurt this thing!"

Cantos
Tuesday September 4th, 2001 2:32:28 PM

Cantos continues to sing while burning his way inward mking sure he follows the wall he is against and looking for any others he might burn.

Qualde escapes the worst of the crushing (Reflex=20), but she's feeling hurt. Casting Defensively (Concentrate=35), she casts Cure Critical Wounds on herself, restoring 43hp.

Time to deal with the godling. The dark elf leaves Nonam where he is and climbs onto the boulder that now blocks the entry. She growls out, "Brother, front and center!" as she passes, moving north and west along the top of the rubble, trying to flank the behemoth with Gareth without drawing an attack of opportunity. Onrad gasps as he feels some of his strength fleeing his body. Seeing his attacks aren't landing, he drops his off-hand rapier and goes to work with the single weapon. He also uses his ability at dodging to improve his chances of not being hit by the hag.

[attacks: AC 37 (dmg 8) (possible crit 34 (dmg7)), 26 (dmg8), 21 (miss)] [+1 to AC w/dodge]

Nonam  d20+9=22
Tuesday September 4th, 2001 7:44:54 PM

Nonam comes to just in time to scramble out of the way of the bolder.

Then he snatches one of those green fireball scrolls that he got from Fireball, the legendary mage of the Red Wyrms. Planning to center the blast so that it catches the godling and the lone witch (above left witch on the map), he mutters, "Hope this works," and reads the scroll.

(if it works, it's a max dmg 18 die fireball - 108 pts dmg - reflex for 1/2 - DC= at least 20, that's Nonam with a regular fireball. I'm unsure what it would be with an 18 die "green fireball")
{I get 38hp too. Less 10 for the boulder leaves 28)

Addinein  d20+11=17
Tuesday September 4th, 2001 11:59:27 PM

Somehow sensing when to dodge in the darkness, Addinein takes a glancing blow from the boulder as it rests into place at the entrance. Feeling his way about the boulder, he will do his best to try to find a way in. ( ooc I see my previous post was a bit pre-mature :) ). If Addinein can find a way into light, he'll attempt to read the cure serious scroll he has.

Round 4 - Heroes' Response (DM Dave)  d100=49 d100=45 d100=51
Wednesday September 5th, 2001 5:10:14 AM

Tericus, Cantos, and Addinein all find themselves at the end of the passage, with a boulder firmly wedged in place in front of them. The magical darkness ends a foot from the entryway, allowing Tericus' torch to provide illumination for Addinein's scroll [Spell cast successfully].

Gareth's counter trip and attack is successful, dropping the orchish opponent. Leaping off of the boulder, the warrior ducks down and around out of sight, imbibing a potion while the 'god' is distracted with other matters.

Qualde gets her spell off without mishap, and makes like a mountain goat as she springs boulder to boulder.

Onrad's first blow lands, with a satisfying results, but the others fail to touch the wily hag.

Nonam's spell successfully goes off, but has no effect on the god, although a squack in the distance indicates it at least impacted one witch.

Going for the higher target, the godling smashes Qualde with two fists (22 hps damage & 26 points of damage). Its trunk snakes out at the priestess, latching on to her arm, and begins draining fluid [Loss of 4 Con points].

Gareth receives the Suggestion to move to the Southwest corner of the room to make further preparations before doing battle (Will to resist DC 16).

If able, Jus adds his strength to the attempt to move the boulder (14). "So," ::grunt:: ::push::, "what's the status of things?"

Cantos, seeing the huge boulder blocking the passage of his comrades and hearing the sounds of battle from the other side, stops singing(the effects last for 5 rounds) and casts bullstrength on himself. A deep booming noise fills the room as Nonam's staff connects with the godling, throwing it backwards and shaking loose small rocks from the cracked ceiling above. The surprise impact shakes Qualde loose from the grasp of the creature's trunk, depositing her on the floor near Nonam.

Gareth takes advantage of the situation, landing a mighty blow. He notes that the thick hide absorbs most of the damage, allowing the blade to do very little, if any, actual pain to the enemy. Glancing around, the warrior fails to spot the originator of last round's Suggestion.

Onrad lands a hit on the hag (yeah!).

As Cantos finishes his spell, all involved in the boulder-moving project find themselves flung upward, and the boulder wrenches from its mooring, falling to the ceiling in the Hall [Those in the darkened hall 'fall' 10 feet for 1 point of damage. Dalelad 'falls' 20 feet inside the hall for 10 points. All now find themselves on the ceiling.].

Nonam  d20+9=29 5d6(6+6+4+3+6)=25

Reasoning that the 5th level wall of force worked while the 3rd level lightning bolt and fireballs didn't, Nonam takes a chance and casts the baddest spell he knows. Disintegrate.

A thin green ray shoots from his pointing finger and strikes the godling. Without waiting to see the result, the wizard runs to the opening in the boulders to his left because he knows there's no way he can take a hit from a thing that dropped Qualde and Gareth, and he's got to be next.

Jus drops his jaw as he sees the massive attack Gareth unleashes upon the monster. Thinking Gareth has his foe well in hand, Jus uses his wonderful vantage point to look around for other foes (spot=14).

Seeing Onrad and the witch fighting openly, Jus draws his bow and lets three of his +2 arrows fly (DC:32/14/30 for possible damage of 7/9/11; +1 to each 2-hit and damage if she's within 30' of Jus).

Tericus' blast goes wide, perhaps due to the disorientation of being turned upside down and smacked against the ceiling. It barely misses the elephant-headed god and connects with Gareth [24 points of damage -- rolled per spell description, not an automatic 40 points as per player's post] in a beam of white-hot light. Tericus' forward advance is stopped as he stands on the boulder, as further movement would require 'falling' another 10 feet to the ceiling below [The passageway has a 10' ceiling, and the hall has a 20' ceiling. The boulder is roughly 10' tall.].

Nonam successfully gets off his deadly spell. Although a big chunk of the god doesn't outright disappear, from its bellow, the effectiveness is obvious.

Onrad lands a blow, barely missing a critical, but obviously putting the hurt on his opponent.

[Qualde is nominated for a Golden Globe as she serenely lies in the carnage.]

Gareth's return attack has some startling success, as the arm is hewn, sending the member flying with a thud reminiscent of the sound of stone on stone.

Dalelad manages to climb from the ceiling of the hall onto the boulder at the entrance.

Both of Cantos' arrows land short, one hitting Onrad in the arm, and the other burying itself squarely between his shoulder blades [13 points of damage total - includes critical]

Two of Jus' arrows fly true, pinning the hag to the ground, unconscious. The third shot goes wide [Missed Onrad due to Jus' Precise Shot feat].

Addinien manages to get his spell off without dire effect, and soon is navigating his way through the weird gravitational field.

The boulder and hallway that Jus, Dalelad, Cantos, and Tericus are standing on suddenly looses its traction [Each needs to make Reflex check DC 14 to avoid slipping, falling, skidding, etc. Any action while still in these two areas will require additional Reflex checks].

Nonam
Friday September 7th, 2001 8:15:56 AM

The wizard runs around to come out behind Gareth. Seeing Onrad, he waits for the wiry swordsman to get Qualde out of the way. Then Nonam raises the Staff of Battle and tries to Repulse the godling, hopefully pushing it away from Gareth to where everyone else can hit it from behind.

The halfling manages to keep his footing, and grins up at the newcomer, "Nice bow ya' got there." Figuring that what goes up, must come down eventually, the thief (having nothing better to do) nails pitons in the wall next to the boulder, and begins running rope down (up?) the wall, hoping to make his return journey less painful than the one to the ceiling.

Taking in the scene around him, Addinein gets the sneaking suspicion that someone is hiding out there. Doing his best to navigate out of the Rgravity field, Addinein maneuvers to the left of the entrance (towards where Nonam was), and will fly over the line of boulders to see who might be hiding there. If there is no one there, he continues on down the side of the room. If his movement can be co-ordinated at all with what Nonam is doing, he will try to take a charge/swipe attack at the Godling, as he moves to his new position. (spot=18, search=17).

If after all this, he finds someone and has movement left, he will move to close and or attack as necessary. Being sneaky of course, if the person doesn't see him. (doubtful ;) )

He keeps his feet as whatever magic the thing hit him with dissipates.

Once he regains his wits and sees his success with the other arm he decides to once again focus his attack on the remaining arm - thinking he can survive longer against the trunk. Still feeling weakened from the last attack, the warrior almost loses his grip on his sword - but uses his battle acumen to recover [hp]. As Jus lines up his next shot, the boulder shifts. "Aaaa," Jus find himself slipping, falling to his knees. He realizes this boulder won't support everyone much longer. Looking around for a safe and flat place to stand, Jus jumps parallel to the wall away from the boulder and towards the real floor, hoping the real gravity kicks in and brings him back to the ground. After he gains his feet, Jus looks for the monster and prepares to fire his bow again (if the fall/jump only counted for Movement, then Jus attacks using his Precise Shot to miss Gareth: DC 24, Damage 8).

"Gareth looks bad--real bad," Jus realizes, shaken to the core. Not since they fought the dragon has Gareth been close to death. "Nonam, Tericus! Call for your protector, god, whatever he was! Isn't he supposed to protect you!"

"Bah.... thanks for the help mister but I was told my spells would work normally for a little while so if ya don't mind let me try and figure out what's going on now," Cantos spits out gruffly. Cantos then attempts to jump away from the boulder towards Gareth, "Which ever of you gods protects the foolish watch over me now" he mutters. If he lands close enough he will attempt to cast cure Critical Wounds on Gareth (healing for 30 total points of damage rerolling 1's).

Dalelad manages to get a line run halfway down the way, next to the boulder.

The funny sensation of having the gravity field reverse neatly flips Addinein over as he flies from the entrance, but he manages to avoid crashing into anything. He spots several witches halfway to the back of the room, on the south-side. They all appear to be in the process of casting spells.

Gareth starts to chop at his opponent, but the pain of the Searing Light makes him opt for his healing potion, instead. [Heals 22 points of damage - as per DEH request]. It doesn’t help matters that the elephant-headed opponent has managed to rise from its prone position with cat-like grace, requiring Gareth to stand on tip-toe due to the trunk-attachment.

With that famous elvish grace, Jus manages an outstanding half-somersault, bringing him over and positioned for a great shot. The arrow hits true, but the outer flesh of the creature absorbs the damage.

Slipping on the surface of the slick boulder, Cantos lands badly as he arrives behind the godling [6 hps of damage] and Overruns the foe to reach, which he manages, but exposes himself to attacks of opportunity in the process[See below].

Tericus slips and falls backward into the darkened hall – and falls victim to a turn in gravity [Hits real floor for 4 points of damage]

As Cantos attempts to overrun the godling to reach Gareth, the godling smashes him [Attack of Opportunity for 18 points of damage], and trips the bard, leaving him prone [Cantos is located between Mr. Elephant-head and the hallway opening - opposite from Gareth].

Again, the elephant-thing drains life from Gareth, and smashes at the warrior with its clawed fist [Loss of 8 hit points and 1 Con points from drain. Loss of 24 hit points from smashing attack - show a total of 2 hps available for Gareth after this damage].

The godling glares at Nonam with small, dark eyes, and the mage once again feels the cold grip of death about his heart [Need to Make Fortitude check DC 23 to avoid cardiac arrest (death). Success requires a second Fortitude check DC 23 to avoid losing 3 Con points & 22 hps, and falling unconscious from the strain.].

Both Gareth and Nonam note that the godling has some sort of accelerated healing ability, as many of the wounds administered earlier no longer appear (although the missing arm is not regenerating).

A wolverine appears and attacks Onrad, hitting with one claw as it goes berserk [for 11 points of damage].

The warrior notes his deteriorating health with anger. Seeing Cantos closing in he decides to get unattached from the trunk thing rather than drink a potion - hoping it's the right decision. With all his remaining strength he focuses both his attacks on the trunk in an attempt to sever it and lands his 2 mighty blows squarely on it (Hit AC 47!,43CR,42!,31CR for 27.5+27.5+27.5+23 = 105.5 DMG - I'm REALLY liking this dice roller recently).

He reels from the damage he's taking and staggers around closer to Cantos (reposition - does NOT break contact) in hopes he can be reached before he goes down. He glares at the godling with a rage, knowing that the thing must be angry that it just can't seem to bring him down. "What's wrong, thing? Are you not able to take out some puny humans? And these guys worship you?!?". The warrior spats in defiance.".

If his friends are able to heal him any at all, in one last act of defiance, he grabs whatever part of the trunk is still attached to him and rips it from his body, casting it aside like so much garbage.

Keeping the staff between and himself and the big bad beastie, Nonam hopes the repulsion is a lasting effect and will keep on pushing. He starts moving forward. If the godling doesn't start moving back, he'll quit stop. As he goes, he casts his second big spell. Chain Lightning. There's only one target, Mr. Cult God.

Switching tactics, Jus looks for anything that might be one of this god's followers (Spot=34). "Are all his worshipers dead? I'd make a bet if we kill them, his power is gone!" Jus let's his arrows fly -- adding a soft whispered prayer to Mystra for assistance in destroying this abomination.

Wishing for a small portion of Waard's luck, Addinein hopes that the witches haven't seen him. Quickly he pulls out his spell of silence and casts it centered on the closest edge of the boulder nearest the withes.

Once the spell is cast he gingerly looks around to see if any of his party are looking his way. Hoping to spot someone looking his way (spot=11 to try to find Jus looking), if successful, he will indicated by hand, that there are 5 targets near the boulder.

If stealth is not the issue, then Addinein will just bellow (once he's outside the effect of the silence spell) 5 targets over here.

If stealth is not the issue, Addinein will then work on lining up to the south and east (true map positions, as we read), to get ready to do a charge attack, trying to trap them against the boulders, using flying as I can. (reminders in e-mail if necessary, are welcome :) )

If stealth is available, would like to land by boulder on south and east side, keeping boulder between him and the witches, to get ready for his next turn.

Tericus manages to get his spell off, but as he moves forward in the darkened hall, he once again encounters the reversed gravity effect, and falls to the ceiling [Suffers 2 hps -needs to make Reflex check DC 14 to avoid slipping, falling, skidding, etc. on slick ceiling. Any action will require additional Reflex checks.].

Dalelad manages to reach the floor with his rope rigging, and moves far enough south to exit the anti-gravity field.

Gareth's blows have a startingly effect: Rather than severing the probiscus, the elephant-headed god seems to grow thick, turning dark, and finally halting in a stone statue form. Gareth is easily able to pull away from the now-nondraining disk. However, he is not able to step back from the statue, as Nonam's Repulsion field smashes him up against it, then around behind it, leaving him sprawled next to Cantos [No damage].

In a flash of power, Nonam's bolt hits the statue, knocking it backwards onto Gareth and Cantos [Need to make Reflex DC 15 to avoid statue, otherwise suffer 10 points of dmg.]

Addinein draws Jus' attention to the witches, and arrows fly. Two of the witches promptly vanish upon being struck, while the third (2nd shot - the critical one) grimaces in pain.

Addinein casts his spell, but things do not go as planned. Rather than cloaking the area in silence, sparkling motes of light appear among the witches, coalescing into gems that rain from the air [Ten gems total] and all but one of the witches winks out. A sudden build up in electrical charge forms into a bolt of lightning that bounces back and forth between the witch and Addinein [Bolt goes a total of nine times, starting with the witch, who saves on all but the first and last bolts - her total damage received is 65 - kills the witch. Addinein will need to make Reflex DC 15 to receive half damage - roll a total of 4 times. 23 hps first bolt, 21 second, 17 third, 9 for the final bolt. Don't forget: Hero Point may be used to re-roll save]

Onrad drops the wolverine in its tracks, and a silence briefly fills Gorgontyr with the vanquishing of the final opponent.

The warrior rolls out of the way before the thing falls. He rolls the same direction as Cantos. Seeing Nonam begin to attack the stone thing, he backs up even as he gets the healing from the bard. He grabs a potion of extra healing and quaffs it (36 pts) as he moves, sword in hand, directly toward Addinien's position looking for more witches. "Our ally said there were 13 of them. I have counted only 5 so far. Find them! Nonam, we need you.". Looking back he continues "The others of you guard the exits and spread-". The warrior smiles as he spies Jus with his bow. "Good to see you, my friend. Let's finish this!". He closes in on the last known area of the witches, using his enhanced blind fighting ability to help locate the witches- if they are still around.

As Addinein sees the fruit of his spell go sour, you can see the look on his face as he thinks 'oh crap, what now'.

Almost as if you can hear the crowd in the background, Addinein dodges to the left (14)(ooohhhh) for 23 points, flies up (oooooooo) (22) for 10 points of damage, spins left very gracefully (aaahhhh) (31) for 8 points of damage, and then quickly dodges to the ground for 4 points of damage. As he touches down on the ground, you can see him sag, and then fight to stay up, from being heavily injured.

As he comes to his senses from all the dodging, Addinein wonders how luck played into the last bit of action.

As his sister casts the heal spell, Addinein sighs with the relief to some of his wounds. Cringing with the effort, and the possibility of backfire, Addinein pulls out his cure serious wounds scroll, and casts it upon himself (for 22 points of healing).

Tericus successfully makes it to Gareth's side as Cantos is finishing up on providing healing [The effects of the Cantos' healing are diminished, providing only 8 points of curing]..

Nearby, Nonam smacks the statue a good-one with the staff, sending a BOOM throughout the room, but the statue is made of sterner stuff than it first appears, and remains intact.

Qualde tends effectively to her brother's wounds, which is a good thing, as magic just continues to give Addinein problems, when his healing scroll backfires. 8 snakes spring forth from the scroll, and land writhing on the ground [Qualde's spell is also diminished, resulting in only 8 points of healing].

Onrad, making his way to the west end of the room, quickly discovers the 8 missing witches, whose bodies are stacked like cordwood next to the dais, sucked dry through big gaping wounds in their bodies.

The warrior nods thanks to the ever-supportive cleric and quaffs another potion in hopes it will improve his health situation (Minor Restoration, 1d4 temporary stat points - 4!). He continues to search for witches moving west toward the stage. He tries to locate the human body that was cast aside by the 'godling' as he goes. "Nonam, push that thing outside so that if it comes back to life we can get support. No need to take chances and have to fight it again.".

Onrad (Kim)

Onrad pokes gingerly at a couple of the bodies with the tip of his rapier. "Gareth -- I think we've got the rest of our thirteen witches here. Sucked dry. Neatly stacked." It takes him a moment to realize the ambiguity of his last statement.

Cantos
Wednesday September 12th, 2001 8:48:33 PM

Cantos looks around at the room and then backs up to the entrance guarding it as Gareth instructed when he hears of the witches, "Hmph... guess we don't have to worry about those 8 then, but I agree -- let's get that monstrosity outside in case we have to do anything else with that beastie." With that Cantos puts his bow up and walks over to move it when others arrive to help.

If Gareth is still standing, he downs his Restoration potion [Regains 4 Con and 22 hit points].

Tericus quickly discovers that, whenever he starts to speak, colorful bubbles emerge from his mouth, rather than sound. When a bubble pops, one word in his voice may be heard, with the effect that all his sentences are disjointed [Further spell casting involving verbal components are prohibited].

The missing body that was flung to the side at the beginning of combat is discovered in the center of the room: It is that of some type of scaled humanoid, perhaps a devil?

Searching the nearest body, that of a lady with the torso of a snake, Jus discovers the following items of note:

bracers, rapier, crossbow with bolts, cloak, ring, amulet, wand, and two empty potion bottles.

The warrior does a quick search of the lizard man and then moves over to the stage and looks for doors or openings in the area. Glancing down at the witch pile he says "You guys good at detecting illusions and things make sure those are really the witches. They are devious and could easily have cast an illusion. Cantos' potion tastes bitter, and fails to provide any healing.

The group quickly secures the area, and determines that no other egress exists, and no obvious Gates are present in the room. The pile of treasure stripped from the bodies quickly grows:

chain shirt, guisarme, bracers, ring, eyes lenses, amulet, battleaxe, dagger, ring, bracers, circlet, wand, composite short bow, bracers, cloak, gloves, ring, potion, potion, wand, bracers, amulet, nunchaku, dagger, belt, gloves, ring, eyes lenses, potion, potion, bag, and a pile of coins and jewelry

"Hold on there, Cantos. I wanted to try a peep through the eye lenses, and what I can see. May I?" If Cantos hands him the lenses, Onrad will take a look at them, before trying them on. If there is more work to do in taking things off of the witches, he will work to complete that first... then carefully put them on (unless someone stops him first).

Jus
Saturday September 15th, 2001 5:59:51 AM

After everyone else has picked up what they want to carry or use, Jus puts the rest in or tied to his pack.

Qualde (BS, Shield)  3d8(3+1+7)+5=16
Saturday September 15th, 2001 12:51:40 PM

The priestess growls at the other Drow. "Your own skill and desire for self-preservation have saved you, Addinein. Call it luck if you must."

If Cantos' dose seems to work effectively, Qualde accepts a potion from Gareth with a husky, "I thank," and drinks it down. (heals 16hp) She helps to shove the statue through the entryway once the blocking boulders have been cleared.

Addinein  3d8(1+2+7)+5=15
Monday September 17th, 2001 12:52:18 AM

"Luck gave me the opportunity to use my skill." quips Addinein.

Taking Gareth up on his offer, Addinein quaffs a potion. The most serious lightning scars disappear, but there's still a disturbing amount of damage.

IF man power is what is needed with the boulder, Addinein helps out.

Rubble Rousers (DM Dave)
Monday September 17th, 2001 6:17:37 AM

At Nonam's words, he feels energy wash over his wounds, removing all damage [All hit points and Con points restored for the mage].

Those inbibing Gareth's potions have some of their hurts healed.

No other exits are discovered, and the group spends some minutes straining to push the boulder out of the entryway. The statue appears to be too wide and too round [15 feet diameter vs. a 10 feet wide/tall opening] to be moved out of the building.

The arm cut off by Gareth earlier is located in the middle of the room: It, too, is now petrified.

Nonam
Monday September 17th, 2001 11:13:37 AM

Nonam says quietly, "Thank you, my friend."

Then he addresses the laboring group, "I was thinking that I can probably destroy the stone with the staff. If that doesn't work, I can teleport us anywhere in the city. Before we do either, we should decide just what it is that we want to do. I wouldn't mind a trip to the library near here, but Cieran provided me with enough knowledge of this place to satisfy me for now. So we could try to return home, or we could stay and try to free the Woodland Queen."

Gareth (+5 Bull's Strength, +7/+3 Shield, +1/+1 AC/SV)
Monday September 17th, 2001 12:32:28 PM

The warrior decides to get the arm of the thing instead of the whole thing. "Perhaps just taking out a piece of it will give your newly found leige the ability to stop him from returning here. I still have 3 more potions here - and 13 more I can share.". He hands them to anyone else who wants more healing.

"Nonam, who exactly is the Woodland Queen? I remember Cieran speaking of her, but I don't remember her being spoken of by the Greens. Are you under some form of obligation to Cieran to do this? I am not opposed to doing more good here if we can.".

Gareth (+5 Bull's Strength, +7/+3 Shield, +1/+1 AC/SV)  3d8(6+5+7)+15=33 2d8(8+5)+4=17
Monday September 17th, 2001 4:06:38 PM

The warrior quaffs 2 more potions. He's looking pretty good now - even though the slightest of injuries still linger. Turning to Nonam, he asks "Will Cieran tell us about this stuff we just obtained? Should we use these items or what? Also, shouldn't we go to his temple now? Isn't that what he asked us to do? Of course, if those holding the queen hear about this they may be ready for us. Perhaps a quick assault would be most effective?".

Jus
Monday September 17th, 2001 7:48:10 PM

"As far as what to do, I'm interested in visiting another temple that had quite a library at one time. But I am open to rescuing a Queen."

As they chat, Jus tries asking again, with a lot less panic, but a little more insistence: "Would someone tell me what happened to Teko? He's missing."

Onrad (Kim)  3d8(2+5+6)+5=18 3d8(2+6+6)+5=19
Monday September 17th, 2001 8:11:08 PM

"Sure, Gareth. I've felt better before, and could use one or two of those potions." He downs one or two. [Gareth - let me know whether he gets one or two.]

Cantos
Monday September 17th, 2001 9:12:00 PM

Cantos lets Nonam study the lenses before putting them in his bag. "I think we should get out of here and find whatever New Elenians are here first that is the last part of our mission everything else can come later," Cantos states. With that he reshoulders his pack and arranges his items for the most comfort.

The Eyes Have It (DM Dave)
Tuesday September 18th, 2001 6:35:33 AM

Onrad notices that things come into sharper detail when he uses the lenses carried by Cantos [+5 Spot check bonus].

The group discusses options and plans while recalling mission details and trying to prioritize goals.

Across the room, a familiar glow of starry lights pops up, faintly regarding the group with a pair of red dots.

Dalelad (DM Dave)
Tuesday September 18th, 2001 6:57:16 AM

Aloud, the halfling recalls Ciaran's words, “When you have finally finished with the witches, one task remains, and that is to find your exit. The Lady of the twinkling lights must be found and rescued if you are to find the correct portal among the thousand scattered throughout this city. Her situation is dire, and I would help her myself, but this task has been apportioned to you.

“When you have finished with the nightmare in Gorgontyr, meet me in my temple, and I will give directions on finding the Lady.”

Returning to a normal voice, Dalelad responds to Jus, "That fellow you're talking about, he ducked out of the party before the group departed on this mission. Had some other business to attend to..."

Tericus(web, lightning immunity, protect other with gareth)
Tuesday September 18th, 2001 9:46:32 AM

as a bubble comes out of his mouth for every word he says, Tericus comments. "Im......not......able.......to......cast.......most........of........my.........spells.........so........I........doubt.........ill........be............much.........use...........but...........ill..........travel.........on."

Nonam
Tuesday September 18th, 2001 10:18:52 AM

Nonam points up at the glowing eyes, "Those belong to the Woodland Queen. She's trapped here in Myth Drannor. As Cantos said, freeing her will show us a way out. I feel compelled to help, but I don't know that I was commanded to do so. There could be another way out, but I think we should just teleport to Ciaran's temple."

Gareth
Tuesday September 18th, 2001 11:14:54 AM

"Agreed. Since he's willing to help us, it seems foolish not to see what else he will do. After we help the Woodland Queen, perhaps we can look around the city a bit for treasure and knowledge - if we still have the stomach for it after this next segment of the mission...".

"Teko left us, Jus. I'm glad to see you returned, we were worried that we'd lost 2 members back to back. I thought I'd be mad at you when you returned, but I'm only glad to see you are here. We need you. I hope your family situation is resolved?".

Gareth, Cont.
Tuesday September 18th, 2001 11:16:50 AM

Onrad gets 2 potions. The warrior puts the other one up.

Onrad
Tuesday September 18th, 2001 1:13:19 PM

"Ah, I feel much better. Thanks, Gareth," Onrad says after taking the two potions. [37 hp back - see previous post.]

"Look, Cantos, I was busy helping Jus take all the stuff off the witches, and didn't have a chance to pick things up. If you don't mind, I had my eyes on these lenses, and would like to use them. They help bring things into better focus."

Onrad restacks the witches' bodies as cordwood, says, "Let's burn these bodies, go to Ciaran's temple, and get his directions," takes out flint and steel, and begins to spark the fabric of the clothes toward the bottom of the pile.

Jus
Tuesday September 18th, 2001 9:35:36 PM

"Ah, your friend Ciaran didn't tell me about the Lady. That sounds like the way to go." Jus makes one last search around the altar while Onrad does the dirty work.

Cantos
Wednesday September 19th, 2001 12:32:21 AM

"Sure keep em if they help out any" Cantos say to Onrad. With that Cantos helps with the witches and then prepares to follow Gareth outside.

Qualde
Wednesday September 19th, 2001 1:03:00 AM

The battered Drow priestess nods and slaps her her thighs with her hands, impatient to move on. "Ciaran, then," she says in her smokey, accented voice. "Teleport from here?"

Qualde approaches Jus and bows in welcome, indicating herself and her brother. "Qualde and Addinein, House Breyt'tar. Jus of The Three arrives timely. How did find?"

Addinein  3d8(1+3+3)+5=12 3d8(2+8+6)+5=21
Wednesday September 19th, 2001 2:27:26 AM

Taking his cue from Gareth, Addinein decides to heal up. It takes 2 more potions to get Addinein look fresh again. When he hears Qualde giving his introduction, he'll nod his head twoards Jus.
