DM JK Monday September 10th, 2001 11:20:26 AM
The group rushes upward through the levels of the Floating City to the Merchant Level. There they find the Shrine to Domi known as the Lost Souls Mission on the Straight Way. They go around to the back like their instructions.
In the alleyway, it's hard for the humans to see even this early in the night. It always seems to get dark early on the levels below the top. While the Merchant Level is generally better lit than the Fence Level that holds the orphanage, there aren't many lights in the alleys.
Fortunately, no unseen dangers leap from the dark. Instead, the Jester approaches the group. He snaps, "You are late! You should have been here at eight. We can still make the gathering if we don't stand around blathering. So follow me down and don't you dare make a sound."
The Jester then moves toward the center of the alley. He looks around quickly and lifts a paving stone from its place. Beneath, there is a ladder leading down. He motions for everyone to descend.
Jezebella Monday September 10th, 2001 11:43:27 AM
Jez reaches the alley panting slightly from their run there. She smiles widely when she sees the familiar painted face of the jester, untill he snaps at them. The smile fades.. but she doesn't hesitate in her climb down the hole.
Tiree True d20+8=20 Monday September 10th, 2001 12:22:00 PM
Having a feeling that the jester will watch their backs for them, Tiree doesn't hesitate to go down the hole quickly and quietly (move sil 20).
Syr Monday September 10th, 2001 1:18:05 PM
Looking at the others he whispers, "Did I miss something? What gathering?"
Syr bounces around with nervous energy as he waits for Tiree to drop down into the hole. After a last glance around, he climbs into the hole using his low light vision to spot handholds.
Drew Monday September 10th, 2001 9:58:11 PM
Drew welcomes Miranna and says "I've been bored but it seems as if things might be looking up. Our Jester friend has called us to a meeting, come on." Drew leads Miranna to the gathering and then shrugs off the Jesters impatiance and goes down the hole.
Miranna Monday September 10th, 2001 11:15:35 PM
Miranna smiles and hums softly all the way to the Shrine. Now and then she fingers the ring on her left middle finger or the scroll case at her waist. She is obviously in high spirits and not expecting any danger from the night.
The Jester's unfriendly greeting cuts short her humming. Her lips purse in a pout, but she descends the ladder without a word.
DM JK Tuesday September 11th, 2001 10:50:46 AM
The Jester closes the hatch once everyone has reached the floor. It is completely dark. Those without darkvision are unable to see a thing. Then the walls begin to glow a faint blue color. Looking around, you all see that you're in a ciricular chamber with passages leading off in several direction. The jester holds a stone up, and one of the passages glows red instead of blue. He heads that way and motions for everyone to follow. He leads you on in silence for about 20 minutes. It would be almost impossible to find the way back out. Finally he stops before a door and says without elaboration, "Wait here until you are summoned." He seems nervous or perhaps excited. After a moment an unfamiliar voice booms in the hallway, "ENTER!"
Jezebella Tuesday September 11th, 2001 11:36:15 AM
"no rhyme..?" she askes softly, more to herself then of the jester. Upon the summoning, she will open the door, and enter. The nervous energy around her makes her palms itch for her daggers, but she restrains herself. Her stance is proud, confidant... but not to the point of arrogance.
Miranna Tuesday September 11th, 2001 9:27:39 PM
Miranna lifts an eyebrow at the Jester's apparent nervousness, but decides that he can be trusted. Had he not promised them the lifelong friendship of the Lords?
She follows Jezebella through the door and looks around curiously.
Drew Tuesday September 11th, 2001 10:26:41 PM
Drew shows no hesitation and walks through the door head held high the moment he hears the summons. He stands in the next room hands at sides, face a blank awaiting then next event of his life or his death, whichever, they seem to both be the same to him.
DM JK Wednesday September 12th, 2001 8:32:52 AM
[I won't post a dm turn today due to yesterday's events. If someone didn't receive an email from me asking about your address, then email me about it.]
Plink Wednesday September 12th, 2001 8:33:22 AM
Plink follows along the rest of the party, a skip in his step. He continues along, following in silence for the alotted time through the red chamber. When the jester says wait, he waits. When the voice says enter, he enters. He makes sure to follow he jester's instructions to the letter.
Syr Wednesday September 12th, 2001 2:46:56 PM
Syr files in behind the rest of the group staying near the door. He looks around with a puzzled expression on his face.
Tiree d20+8=21 Wednesday September 12th, 2001 6:32:03 PM
Tiree, too, moves into the room at the word of the invisible person.
Moving inside, she quickly moves to the side and looks around the room (if poss, spot 21). While doing so, she moves her pin so that it is completely visible.
Polaris Wednesday September 12th, 2001 8:34:21 PM
Polaris follows as well, but she walks slower than usual, confusion crossing her face.
The Gathering (dm jk) Thursday September 13th, 2001 9:24:13 AM
As everyone enters the room, you see a mysterious sight. The room is circular. At the center stand three hooded figures. In the next ring of the circle sit four imposing nobles. Well, three imposing nobles and the jester. They are spaced out evenly around the room. The jester sits directly before you. The gentleman across the room is dressed completely in red silk and wears a small red mask. The lordling holding the seat to the left has lace in his cuffs and around his neck and looks every bit the pompous blowhard. To the right sits a graceful young woman. Golden locks frame a face hidden by a silver mask.
A group sits behind each of the seated figures, save for the jester. Apparently you are to be his group. There are chairs available.
The possessor of the booming voice you heard in the hallway speaks from the center of the room, "Please be seated. You are the final guests of the evening. Perhaps if the... jester didn't insist on rhyming all the time, there would have been no difficulty."
As he finishes, the second figure at the center of the room begins. His delivery has the ring of an oft repeated litany. No doubt some ceremony is beginning. "You have been summoned before the High Council of the Lords of Diamonds." Lights come on near the ceiling, and you can make out that there are many seated figures seated above you watching, like you were in a stadium for their amusement. The lights blink out, and they disappear once more. Some magic is no doubt at work, for even those with darkvision are unable to see them.
The second figure continues, "You were called in secret, and this gathering shall remain secret. You may never speak of this to anyone. You may never reveal how you arrived. You may never reveal what is learned herein. This is not done without your consent. We would not snare the helpless. If you choose not to continue, you may leave now. Should you wish to stay, you must swear your loyalty to the Lords of Diamonds. Those who were last must decide first."
All eyes, save for those of the jester, turn to rest on you.
Jezebella Thursday September 13th, 2001 9:53:17 AM
Jezebella hesitates a moment, glancing around the oppressive room and to her companions faces. She then responds, clearly, back to the speaker. "I would swear loyalty to those that would not snare the helpless, and would save innocent lives.. if the Lords of Diamonds are such people, then yes, I swear loyalty to them."
She adjusts her collar to display her diamond pin.
Plink Thursday September 13th, 2001 8:00:04 PM
With much flourish, and more than a little flare, Plink bows forward, his black cap seeming to fall off of his head. He catches it at the last minute, however, and with a flick of his wrist, sends it rolling back up his arm to fly off his shoulder, landing casually atop his head, facing with the Diamond from the Jester placed directly in the front. He says gracefully, in a melodious voice that sounds pleasant to hear, "I speak now for myself, but not for my kin, I pledge my loyalty to the lords here within. The Lords aided us when we needed it most, and thus I owe much to such a hospitable host. Also, I thank you for allowing me to attend, and sit among you dashing women, and daring men."
Miranna Thursday September 13th, 2001 8:00:16 PM
The elf frowns. Swearing loyalty to a mysterious group which nobody knows much about...
"What cause do we have to swear loyalty to the Lords? What actions would be expected and required of us once we so swear? How would such vows affect our personal loyalties to Flaust, the orphanage - and my own family if I find them one day? I cannot swear without knowing all the answers."
Miranna's face slowly flushes as she speaks, feeling more than seeing all those eyes on her. She can feel her heart beating faster, but fights the impulse to turn and hide from her audience and those undoubtedly important personages seated at the center.
Drew Thursday September 13th, 2001 9:23:07 PM
Drew crosses to the chair and sits behind Yorik. "I sware to your oath as I understand it."
Tiree Friday September 14th, 2001 3:12:08 AM
Tiree says nothing. She just points to her obvious pin and nods.
Syr Friday September 14th, 2001 3:36:32 AM
Syr gives a short nod followed by a quick smile at the jester.
DM JK Friday September 14th, 2001 12:15:42 PM
As each party member agrees, the third figure in the center says, "All here bear witness to your answer. Welcome to our circle."
When Miranna hesitates, the third figure says, "All you may know is this: your oath will not require the shedding of blood nor any truly evil acts. Nothing more can be said. You must choose to swear to continue to take part in the Gathering. Otherwise you may leave by this door." A door on the other side of the room is outlined in white light. At that moment Yoric finally turns around. He grins at Plink, but then he shoots Miranna a withering frown.
Jezebella Friday September 14th, 2001 4:42:44 PM
Jezebella silently moves slightly to Miranna's side, and holds her hand.. facing Yoric's stare together. Should Miranna leave, she gives her hand a quick reasurring squeeze before releasing, and leaves with her. Should she agree, she smiles and sits.
Drew Friday September 14th, 2001 10:40:13 PM
Drew pulls out chairs for his family and offers it to them with this wisdom. "An oath is only as honarable as the one asking you for it."
Polaris Saturday September 15th, 2001 12:52:50 AM
Polaris jumps into her new circle cheerfully. Being young and naive, she doesn't think twice about making new friends. She wears a big grin across her face and smiles at the others in the circle that are not her family.
Miranna Sunday September 16th, 2001 9:05:56 PM
Miranna flushes even redder at Yorick's withering frown, but stands her ground. She squeezes Jezebella's hand gratefully, and takes a deep breath before speaking.
"I do not understand what it is that compels everyone who desires our aid or allegiance to be so secretive, but I do not wish to abandon my family who have taken the oath. So this is the oath that I swear: I will be loyal to the Lords as the honourable people that I believe them to be, on the understanding that such loyalty will not require evil acts of me, nor any betrayal of my adopted or real family."
Miranna can feel her heart beating wildly even as she returns Yorick's stare, her head held high. The hand that is holding Jezebella's tightens unconsciously in a hard squeeze.
DM JK Monday September 17th, 2001 12:25:40 PM
The third figure looks at Miranna in total suprise, "Desire your aid? You are here to see if you are worthy of our aid. So far your prospects look dim." After a glare from the first hooded figure she quickly composes herself and adds, "All here bear witness to your answer. Welcome to our circle."
After your group is finished, the three speakers take the oaths of the other three groups in the room. None of the others hesitate in the slightest. Most seem eager to learn some of the secrets of the Lords of Diamonds.
Once all the oaths are given, the first hooded figure speaks again. "Congratulations. You have been admitted into candicacy with the Lords of Diamonds. Our organization is secret and mysterious as you probably well know. You will have to wait many years before you gain access to most of our secrets, but I will provide you with answers to what you may know at this time. Listen carefully."
"Our organization was formed by a group of nobles who desired a bit of adventure and excitement. Their earliest goal was simply to obtain items which were considered unobtainable. Whether this meant stealing the jewels of a dragon or snatching the crown from a king's head, no challenge was too great. This seemed a great past-time, and other nobles sought to join those who became known as the Lords of Diamonds. This first goals was frivolous, and many of the things the Lords continue to do are frivolous. Make no mistake, this organization exists primarily for the amusement of its members. However, the Lords also seek to use their wealth and power to uphold law and goodness. For that is probably the most elusive goal of all. Our grasp extends far. We have members from every land and every nation. Some think of us as thieves, but we are not. Most of the items we take, we return. Some that are more dangerous, we keep safe from those that would misuse them. In that way, we are protectors of the less fortunate."
The second figure continues the discussion, "Our membership is a closely guarded secret. That is the reason for your oaths. Some of you will not advance. If you do not, you are expected to hold your tongue about what you see here. Consider your secrecy to be your first test. Now as to why you are here today. You have all been contacted by a member of our organization that seeks to gain admittance to the High Council. The High Council is our ruling body. There are many tests to become admitted to the High Council. The four lords seated around us - the Jester, the Red Lord, Lord Pomposity, and the Silver Princess - have completed all the tests save for one. Much of what a High Lord does involves the use of agents and underlings. The final test measures their ability to select such agents. These Lords have been active in testing agents throughout New Elenna. They have chosen you as their best. To measure the ability of these Lords, we will play a game of sorts."
The third figure concludes, "The Lord that assembled the winning team will become a High Lord while the team that wins will gain admission into the lowest level of our organization. From there, you might rise until you sit on the High Council yourself. The losing teams will retain our friendship and may someday have another opportunity for advancement. The losing Lords will not have an opportunity to retest until another seat opens on the High Council. The test may only be taken five times. After that the Lord may never sit on the High Council. The Silver Princess is being tested for the first time. The Red Lord attends his second testing. Lord Pomposity is at his second as well. As you know, Yorik, this is your fifth and final opportunity. So far it seems your selection hasn't been any better than in years gone by. We shall see how you measure up."
The first figure touches the third and angrily whispers something. Then he addresses you all again, "None of you have any obligation at this point, save to hold secret that what you have learned. Should you not wish to play the game and aid the Lord that has selected you, that is your choice. You may leave now and remain Friends of the Lords. However, remember that this is your opportunity as well. If you leave, you might not ever chance upon another opportunity to join our organization."
The white door lights up again.
Tiree True Monday September 17th, 2001 3:30:57 PM
Tiree listens flabbergasted to what the Lord is saying.
"We are the best?" she thinks to herself. "Alas poor Yoric, I don't think you're going to make it this time either."
Trying not to show her feelings, she glances at the white door and wonders about the Lords of Diamonds and if she should stay for their jester or not. She glances back at him and makes her decision.
Tiree stays seated behind Yoric, the jester.
Syr Monday September 17th, 2001 4:38:19 PM
Syr never glances back at the door and says softly, "We will not let you down."
After making sure no one stands to exit he says louder, "Games I can certainly relate to... what did the council have in mind?"
Miranna Monday September 17th, 2001 8:51:50 PM
Miranna's emerald eyes widen momentarily in surprise as the masked figures answer many of her questions. If they had explained some of this before asking for oaths, there would have been no difficulty... When it is revealed that this is Yorik's last chance, she gives him an apologetic smile and takes her seat behind him. Yorik has selected them as his best. She will not disappoint him.
She wonders what sort of game will be played. Will it involve the use of magic? Intellect? A dreamy look comes into her eyes as she imagines the wealth of knowledge and magic that an organization such as the Lords of Diamonds would possess.
Jezebella Monday September 17th, 2001 9:09:19 PM
Jez gives another reasureing squeeze to Miranna's hand as she sits, and then follows suit, sitting next to her. She releases Mira's hand and folds her hands in her lap. She also smiles at Yorik, and gives him a small nod of support.
Drew Monday September 17th, 2001 10:37:15 PM
Drew stands, checks the straps of his armor and that his axe is free on his back and nods to himself. He looks to Yourik and nods to him as well. Drew stands ready to win any game of strength or combat.
The Rules - DM JK Tuesday September 18th, 2001 10:04:32 AM
No one leaves, and the first hooded figure begins speaking again, "Very well. The game is this: The Star of Earth is a large diamond that has been enchanted to make its possessor beautiful. It is held in deposit at The Glitter Sanctuary of Karinthis. We make it a habit not to steal from the Gods, but recently the Brokers of Karinthis contacted us and asked us to check their security. You will have to find a way into the vaults, take the Star of Earth, and bring it to your sponsor. Your sponsor will bring it to us. The first team that brings it is the winner. There are only two rules. The first is that you may not kill anyone. The second is that the sponsors may only give directions. They may not take an active part in the quest. That is all we have for you. The sponsors will answer any further questions. The game begins...NOW!"
As the speaker finishes the last word, the figures at the center disappear. The other three teams leap out of their chairs and follow their sponsors out of the room in a rush. Each taking a different door.
Yorick spins his chair around to face your group, "I will speak plainly because this is important. I thank you for remaining. I lost last time because my group walked out. I have a problem with picking strong willed agents. Now then, the only need to rush out of here is to make plans in private, but we are the only ones here. I see no need to rush. The game is always the same, but the object we are required to bring back is always different. So most of the aspiring lords make no preparations until they arrive. I on the other hand made a list of several possible items in the city that might have been our goal. There is a certain advantage to having taken this test so many times. I know best how it works. As luck would have it, the Star of Earth is one of the items I studied, and I think that I know how to retrieve it. It is held in one of the secure vaults of the Glitter Sanctuary." Here he pauses and produces a blueprint of what you assume to be the Glitter Sanctuary from up his sleeve. He points, "It is in this vault here, #329. There are several ways to reach it. Most involve breaking through wards and magic. No doubt, some of the other teams will try that. That's much too difficult. Frankly, I don't think it can be done. The simplest way is with the key. In this case, there are four keys. You will need two to open these two gates that lead to the vault. The vault itself requires the other two keys. You will find the keys and use them to simply walk in. Of course this may take some time. If anyone notices that their key is missing, they will sound the alarm at the temple and change out all of the locks. The brokers seem able to dismantle their own magic protections and can replace the locks faster than you would imagine. So we must find the keys, make copies of them without getting caught, and then use them to walk right into the vault and back out with the diamond. Fortunately, I already know who has each of the keys. Now, let's get out of here. There's no need to rush, but I need to be in my location soon. You may ask questions as we relocate. I will answer them as I am able. Don't expect anything on the secrets of the Lords, though."
The Jester holds up the orb that guided you to this place and an exit lights up. He begins leading you back up to the surface.
Drew Tuesday September 18th, 2001 7:32:05 PM
"I dont know how we will make a copy of the keys!!"
Polaris Tuesday September 18th, 2001 7:46:29 PM
Polaris has a look of confusion come across her face. "Anyone have any ideas?"
Miranna Tuesday September 18th, 2001 8:06:38 PM
"Drew is right; how do we duplicate the keys? Are they even normal keys that can be fashioned by hand from the right metal? I rather suspect a vault of the Glitter Santuary would have magical keys."
"I presume too the keys are guarded by able people who would not willingly part with them, and would have been alerted of the Lords' mission. Did you have any plan in mind for getting the keys? Or is this part left to our own resources?"
"May we know who the four guardians are?"
Lord Peldivar's Key
Plans - DM JK Wednesday September 19th, 2001 12:54:50 PM
As he reaches the surface, Yorick calmly replies, "I feel naked without speaking in rhyme, but formulations of that sort take time... and I despately need to make certain that I am understood. I think in past contests my rhyning got in the way. Now then, my only restriction is that I cannnot accompany you. I must remain in one location for the duration of the quest. That means I can outfit you with appropriate equipment, and I have a device that will duplicate the keys. There will be no difficulty there."
He leads through a few side streets and finally stops before a small house which is near the ramp to the Gold Level. He pushes opens the door and continues, "One of the keys is held by the owner of the diamond. He is a minor lordling, the Lord Peldivar. He is a pompous sort and wears the key about his neck. He takes great pride in showing it to people. It shouldn't be hard to get him to show it to you, but it may prove tricky taking it long enough to make a copy."
The main room of the house Yorick has led you to holds one large desk covered in papers and folders. There are a few other chairs in the room. He motions for you to sit and starts shuffling through the papers. Those near the desk notice titles on the folders like "Reznor's Shield," "The Blueknives of the Three," and "Lady Hannh's Night Jewels." You don't know what any of them are, but it seems that Yorick spent a good bit of time preparing for this quest.
Finally he pulls out one labled "Peldivar's Star of Earth" and leafs through it. Finally he starts speaking again, "As luck would have it, Peldivar is hosting a party tonight." He pulls out a map of the Gold Level and points to a house. "This house is his. Unfortunately time doesn't permit us to get invitations for all of you, but if you can slip in unseen, you can probably blend in well enough... at least if we get you some new clothes."
He points to a door to another room, "Back there you can find a good many clothes that should fit all of you. There are several selections. I had no idea what you might need. Select something to blend in with a lot of lords, and I'll send you on your way for the first key."
The room the jester pointed out is indeed filled with all sorts of clothes. They range from beggar's rags to diamonds and jewels. Yorick exclaims, "I nearly forgot! You need the key replicator." He takes a small black box from one of the desk drawers. "There are two hinged lids you see." He opens each lid to show you. "Simply put a key in on this side and close the lid. Wait for a count of 50, and take that key back out. Then you should check the other side to make certain that a duplicate was made. Clear enough? Good now change."
He sits back down at the desk and starts reading through his files again.
Tiree Wednesday September 19th, 2001 4:28:02 PM
Tiree heads into the other room to select clothing and to change. Having seen ladies enough to have a general idea about dress, she works quickly and then steps out for Yoric's approval.
"What about weapons and such? I normally carry a hand x-bow, rapier, and daggers. That will look a bit suspicious in this costume wouldn't it? Are we supposed to go in with any at all?"
Jezebella Wednesday September 19th, 2001 6:48:37 PM
Jezebella smiles widely as she goes through the wardrobe.. eventually pulling out a silken tunic and leggings of a delicate doves wing grey.
"... Yoric... are we going to be crashing a party, or something? Is this lord haveing a gathering we can attend to masqurade as nobles? or ... perhaps... entertainment?"
"Tirre... Drew, too, for that matter... some of us can be servants." She cuts herself short... " ... bodyguards, I mean."
Polaris Wednesday September 19th, 2001 8:14:59 PM
Polaris gets a girly grin on her face as she goes into the closet, pulling out all sorts of accesories. She is in a little halfling's dream.
"I would love to dress up. Tell me what to be and I can act it."
She begins to act very dramatic, putting her right hand against her foreheaad like a damsel in distress. She puts on this childish act for a few minutes, then goes back to rummaging through the clothes.
Miranna and Weasel d20+3=4 d20+3=23 Wednesday September 19th, 2001 8:46:19 PM
Miranna selects an elegant blue gown of taffeta and chiffon which fits over her own blue robe. There are enough ruffles and gathers on the gown to hide the slight bulges caused by her diamond pin and belt pouches underneath. Taking up her dagger, she carefully cuts an inconspicuous slit in the voluminous skirt, just big enough for her hand to reach in and access her spell component pouch. She twirls and turns a few times to check that the slit will not show at her sudden movement.
Finally satisfied, Miranna piles all her weapons neatly in a corner of the room. She puts her weasel's pouch on top of the pile after commanding her weasel to come out of the pouch and stay hidden within her billowy skirt.
For the final touch, the elf lets down her long golden hair. She selects an emerald-studded silver hairband and a matching pair of emerald earclips as the only jewellery to complement her dress.
The figure that emerges from the dressing room is hardly recognizable, and might perhaps have charmed even Yorick, but she suddenly trips and goes down in a heap of taffeta and chiffon. (CHA roll nat 1!!!)
Blushing deeply, Miranna admonishes her weasel to stay clear of her feet and gets up in a flurry. She smooths down her dress before turning to Yorick for his approval. (CHA roll 23)
Drew d20+2=22 Wednesday September 19th, 2001 9:32:38 PM
Drew looks at Jezebella. There is no embarsement in his gaze but he dosent seem to know how to be all that comforting either. "There is never any need to be embarased with me. We have shed each others blood and been near death together. We are closer than some husbands and wifes." With that he crosses into the closet and comes back out a moment later. When he returnd he is clean and polished. Looking much like the more serious of bodyguards within the city. There is one great change though, now that his face is clean and his hair out of his face and hes not standing hunched over his true heigth and blood line shows through. Drew is clearly a half orc, born and breed for war. He crosses to stand beside Miranna. He looks the part as if he has been guarding her all his life. (Disguise of 22)
Final Instructions (DM JK) Thursday September 20th, 2001 10:19:38 AM
Yorick gives a few final pointers on how you all look. He straightens a few collars and says, "Yes, it's a party. Didn't I say? None of you should be so gauche as to go in with a backpack. The gentlemen could get by with wearing a single sword and you could all secret knives about your person. Such things are common. None of the ladies should go in with a two-handed meat cleaver strapped to her back though. And no armor. That would be most out of place at a party. As for how you choose to infiltrate, I leave that to you. Perhaps none of the lords would notice a new servant, but the other servants would. Entertainment has probably already been provided, and you might end up in a brawl with the entertainers who are already there. They won't want anyone cutting into their profits. I think masquerading as lords is your best bet. You just have to figure out how to get inside. And then get the key of course."
He muses silently for a bit and says, "Drew, might be an exception. Few will buy a half-orc lord. If you try the masquerading, expect to speak to a lot of young lordlings that want to know who you are and how you acquired your money. Be thinking about your story or something. I don't know. In any case, you'd better all get on on your way. Who has the key duplicator?"
Jezebella Thursday September 20th, 2001 6:44:50 PM
"Yoric, is this Peldivar a drinker...? Does he have any other vices...? What do you know about him?"
Plink d20=8 Thursday September 20th, 2001 7:55:33 PM
At Yorick's beckon, Plink enters the changing room and fits himself into what he recognizes as a black noble's suit, fit with a cap similar to his, floppy and deep black. He's quite stunning, and he begins to whistle a tune, but his voice cracks midway through, and he coughs to recompose himself. He says, "I recommend noone show their diamond pins while we go. As the lords have been prospected to test the security, people will probably acknowledge the fact that we are working for them, and thus be less...willing to cooperate with us. Just a thought." With a flourish, Plink removes the cap from his head, rolls it all the way down one arm and up the other, to let it fly into the air, where it casually lands, perfectly, atop his head. It seems he's quite fond of this action. "Might you have a place I could wash my rapier, good Yorick?" At Yorick's answer, he heads there, and polishes his magical rapier into a brilliant sheen, and prepares to leave.
Drew Thursday September 20th, 2001 8:40:15 PM
With the Doubble headed axe straped to his back and the dress leathers he found in the closet he looks like a member of the army core or a body guard. "I do not think I could pass as a lord. I will do what I do best if it is possible and be an escort and chaperone for the ladies. Or is it uncommon for someone like me to be hired to watch and protect a young ladys verture at a party?"
Miranna Thursday September 20th, 2001 9:12:53 PM
Miranna just stares at Drew, her emerald eyes reflecting initial revulsion, then suspicion, then confusion, then pity, then shame. Her elven blood is urging her to distrust this half-orc, but her gentle heart reminds her of how Drew had saved them from the amulet trap and collapsed his own home to trap their enemies. Flaust's voice sounds in her head, admonishing her not to judge others by appearance or birth. Drew must have had a harder life, as a half-orc, than she had at first imagined. Miranna lowers her eyes in shame. How could she even think of distrusting a brother, whom Flaust has accepted into the family?
She takes Drew's huge hand in her own delicate one and gives it a gentle squeeze, as a form of reconciliation and apology.
Miranna suddenly realizes that a silence has replaced the background droning of Yorick's voice. She turns back to Yorick with a blush, remembering their mission, and manages to hear the last part of his speech.
"Drew can be my bodyguard. I will be - an heiress from a faraway city."
"Yorick, do you know any lordlings that might be charmed enough by an unknown lady to take her to the party? Tiree and I might slip in that way." (I think Jezebella has dressed herself as a servant or bodyguard, right?)
Tiree Thursday September 20th, 2001 9:59:55 PM
"I think you could pull off the heiress thing Miranna. Drew can be your trusty bodyguard, he never leaves your side, of course. The rest of us can play close friends or family and possibly a servant or two. Very trusted servants!"
She smiles, working her mind around the plan.
"We just have to get someone to vouch for us to get us in."
Here, she looks to Yoric for confirmation of her statements.
"We have to get close to the key as well. Perhaps I can play Miranna's best friend. A very clumsy friend. And while we are being introduced to Lord Peldivar, as we should be, perhaps I can bump into him and lift it then. Then I'll pass it off to someone behind me who'll make the copy. After the copy is made, they can pass it back to me and I'll give him back the original. Perhaps I will notice it on the ground after I get done profusely apologizing to him for my clumsyness."
After this long rambling thinking out loud stops, she looks around to see what everyone thinks.
"It's just an idea though," she says.
Jezebella (ooc) Thursday September 20th, 2001 10:00:00 PM
in silks? either a very well paid bodyguard, or an unassuming noble .. :)
Miranna Thursday September 20th, 2001 10:46:11 PM
"I do not think it will be wise to demonstrate that we are all together as a group. If we do not know each other, even if one of us draws suspicion, the others still have a chance at getting the key."
"I have another idea for getting the key, if Tiree's plan does not work. I could try to persuade Peldivar to let me see it more closely - in the palm of my hand. Then I could cast an illusion of it still lying on my palm while I pass the real key to someone to duplicate. Polaris would be ideal for doing the duplication."
"That reminds me - where is Anarion? If he not in this adventure with us?"
Jezebella Friday September 21st, 2001 7:06:56 AM
"I agree with breaking us up.. perhaps we can have a 'backup team' going with another plan."
"What I was considering was getting the poor sap so drunk that he wouldn't notice a hippogryph dancing through his bedroom." she smiles. "He'll wake with a headache, and none the wiser. .. oh... and I don't think Yoric, or anyone else, can vouch for us... I think we are to sneak in."
Get going - DM JK Friday September 21st, 2001 12:54:33 PM
Yorick answers, "The drunken sot gambles alot and with women he's a stinker. Now, it's getting late, so get going before the party's over. Your plans all sound fine to me."
Miranna d20+3=6 Friday September 21st, 2001 9:04:59 PM
Miranna picks up the key duplicator and examines it curiously for a while before handing it to Polaris. "I believe you will have the best chance of duplicating the key unnoticed. When we are inside, please mill about near Peldivar and be ready to receive the key from one of us."
"If we are agreed that we will not know each other, let us go. We can decide how to sneak in after we see how the door is guarded."
Miranna studies Yorick's map, but cannot make much sense out of it. (INT roll 6, Miranna is fated to be lousy at directions!) With a sigh, "Somebody else who is better at reading maps and directions please lead the way?"
Drew Friday September 21st, 2001 9:34:39 PM
Drew blushes when his kind sister shows him such kindness and compassion. He retreats to a corner of the room and in moments he is his old stoic self. However he now seems to be watching the whole room at once with out ever seeming to watch anything. He makes a quite imposing and frighting figure really.
Jezebella d20+2=15 Monday September 24th, 2001 10:37:06 AM
Jez makes sure her daggers are secure in her boots and in the belt of her new outfit, then takes a look at the map (int 15). She says "I think I can find the spot. Come on."
As she goes, she firms up thier plans. "So we dont know eachother, once we are inside.. with the exception of Drew and Miranna. I think the person who holds the box should NOT attempt to take the key.. we don't want them to know what is up. We can pass off the key once we have it in our hands." As she talks, she makes thier conversation isn't being overheard.

Syr (virus free :) Monday September 24th, 2001 1:53:08 PM
Syr emerges from the closet after some time awash in green silk. He pats his double bladed axe fondly before setting it aside, "Probably wouldn't do to have that along at a party."
With a start, he stares at Drew and grins, "Well, with a half-orc guarding an elf I think we have our distraction in place."
Staring down at the replicator, "Just a thought but should we have a spare bogus key on hand in case we need a quick substitution?"
"I don't know much about the slight of hand, could I possibly volunteer to hold the replicator as Polaris' talents could be better used in other areas?"
on your way then (DM JK) Tuesday September 25th, 2001 12:38:53 PM
Yorick ushers the group out the door and answers Syr just before he closes it, "That would be a fine idea if I had any idea what the key looked like. Maybe on the next go round? Now get going before the party is over."
Outside in the street, everything is quite dark. Somewhere in the distance a crier announces that it is midnight. Fortunately no one did anything too strenuous today. It's looking like its going to be a long night. On the journey to Lord Peldivar's, you notice a few of the sights of late night Floating City. Every now and again a drunk staggers across your path. Here and there a young couple sneaks off into the shadows on their way home. But for the most part all his quiet. Finally you reach the Gold Level. The scene is much the same as it was on the Merchant level, only here the drunks are better dressed. Finally, you make it to Peldivar's mansion.
The night is cool as you stand acroos the street and study your target. A quick look around shows that it stands on a street corner and is readily accesible from three sides. Through the brightly lit windows you see the signs of a party in full swing. Dancing, laughing, and drinking guests cavort about, and the sounds of music come faintly through the glass of the closed windows. A quick survey of the house reveals that the front of house presents only one grand entrance. Two guards idly sit at the door. One is staring through the glass at the party inside and is whispering to his mate. The other looks like he wants to grab a quick nap.
The side of the house that is accessible from the street presents nothing but closed windows on the bottom two floors. However, a window stands open on a darkened room on the third (top) floor. The second floor windows are dark and could perhaps be broken without much noise.
Around back there is a servants' entrance. A quick look reveals a pair of cooks sitting on the back step sharing a bottle of some unknown concoction.
The home shares a common wall with the house next door. So unless you contemplate breaking into the other house and looking for a way into Peldivar's from there, you'll probably need to focus enter through the front door, back door, or a window. Or perhaps a good climber could make it to the flat roof. Though there's no way of telling if you could get in once you got up there.
Miranna d20+4=11 d20+6=16 Tuesday September 25th, 2001 10:39:42 PM
Miranna mentally reviews her prepared spells and decides on the most direct approach. She whispers to her family to move close to the front entrance and get ready to slip in, then moves to a spot about 20 feet away from the guards, making sure that she is concealed from their view either by darkness or some physical barrier. She sweeps her arms in a circular motion around her and utters the command in Draconic, "Surround and obscure!" A misty fog rapidly spreads out from her, reaching the front entrance and the guards. (Obscuring Mist, 30 ft radius, lasts 2 mins, provides 1/2 concealment within 5 ft, obscures all sight beyond 5 ft.)
With a satisfied smile, Miranna moves quietly towards the door. She commands her weasel to lead the way in the fog. When she gets near the front door, she will attempt to hide and slip by the guards. (Hide=11, Move Silently=16, without fog concealment bonus)
Tiree True Tuesday September 25th, 2001 10:44:52 PM
Tiree looks at the house and the ways in and then looks at the size of the group.
"I don't think that we are all going to get in in one way. We're going to have to split up. Some try the front, some the back, and some a window.
Miranna, why don't you, Drew, and I try the front door? Maybe Jez and Syr could try the back? Lovers who went out for a tryst and now want back in without their families knowledge? And the others could try a window on the side somewhere?"
Tiree looks at Miranna closely.
"Even though you are an elf, I think we could pull off being cousins who live together. Maybe you are visiting me and my family. Drew, of course is our bodyguard. We young ladies can't be out by ourselves, can we? He has our invitation if we need to show it, but apparently he has lost it..."
She raises an eyebrow toward Miranna and the rest of her family to see what they think.
"Whatever we do, we need to do it quickly."
Syr d20+8=23 d20+3=18 Wednesday September 26th, 2001 4:34:50 AM
Glancing at Tiree, "Quickly, by now Lord Percival should be well into his drink. It would be nice to pull this off and present the first key to the Jester."
The elf takes a glance at the gypsy and shakes himself, "I could go in with her but it would feel wierd pretending THAT with my sister. Besides, I prefer my women shorter." The last is said with an wry grin as he stands up to his full height which is still less than 5'.
Staring up the side of the building, "How about I try a bit of climbing instead? Maybe someone else could enter with Jez?" (Climbing check 23)
After eyeing the wall from several different angles he leaps up and takes ahold of a window seal. Once he nears the 3rd level open window he stops for a moment to listen for any signs of activity and takes a quick peek inside looking for movement.
Assuming he hears nothing (listen 18) he slids his body over the window seal and signals anyone else to come up and join him. Once inside, he pauses to take in his surroundings.
Jezebella Wednesday September 26th, 2001 7:16:30 AM
She watches the mist swirling, and Miranna disappear into it.
She hisses to the rest of them. "Fine... Syr, you climb.. Drew, you are with Miranna... GO... Same with you, girls. Use that fog before it fades!" She winks at the bard. "Plink, that leaves you to be my suitor... Lets take a walk..."
Plink Wednesday September 26th, 2001 8:27:42 AM
With a deep bow before Jezebella, Plink extends his arm, saying in a beautiful voice, "Shall we, my lady?" and then prepares to make their leave around towards the back, seeing what entrances they might be able to find.
Drew Wednesday September 26th, 2001 9:18:03 AM
Drew shivers in fear as he sees the fog suddenly spring up. "Won't the sudden fog appearing alert the guards that something is wrong?" he wispers. But Follows Miriana quickly anyway.
DM JK Wednesday September 26th, 2001 12:59:30 PM
The fog begins to obscure the house and therefore the guards. Once the party starts to break apart, everyone loses sight of the rest of the group.
[Each group - front, back, and window - can keep track of who is going to their location, but no one can keep track of other groups.]
Miranna realizes Tiree and Drew are following her before she tries to slip in. Plus she realizes it would be virtually impossible to open the door and walk in without one of the two guards standing right next to it to notice. Getting close those in this group hear one of the guards speaking to another, "Be on your toes, Mitch. This doesn't seem right to me." The other replies, "Don't worry. Always gets foggy at night."
Syr makes it up to the window and hears nothing but the sounds from downstairs. He gets into the house. He's in what seems to be an unoccupied bedroom. Turning, he realizes that none of his companions will be able to see him through the fog.
Plink and Jezebella make it to the back. The fog doesn't touch the back of the house as it does the front. The cooks are still sitting on the steps. They seem to be drinking and playing at dice. As Plink and Jezebella approach one of them looks up, "Come around back to make fun of the help?"
Jezebella Wednesday September 26th, 2001 1:14:42 PM
Jezebella leans drunkenly into Plink and titters at the cooks question. "no.. we've just had enough fun for tonight... perhaps!.. " she giggles again, holding onto Plink as if he was the only thing keeping her upright. She staggers over the game of dice with him, into the manor.
Polaris Wednesday September 26th, 2001 3:06:03 PM
Polaris pouts because she feels left out, with no one to enter the party with her, (however if she posted every day this wouldn't be a problem) So as she pouts and moans she decides to try and enter right behind Drew and Marianna. she is proud of her exotic silks and is planning on playing a visiting noble from the northern halfling villages.
Miranna Wednesday September 26th, 2001 8:52:53 PM
(OOC: Argh, I had assumed the front door would be open. I always leave my front door open when I have a party!)
Miranna waits for Tiree and Drew to come up to her before presenting herself to the second guard who had dismissed the fog as normal. Feigning annoyance in her voice, she says as haughtily as she can, "Open the door, guard. Do you expect me to wait in the fog?"
If either guard asks for an invitation, she waves at Drew vaguely, while displaying irritation at the delay.
Tiree d20+7=14 d20+6=17 Wednesday September 26th, 2001 11:11:31 PM
Moving quickly with Miranna and Drew she arrives at the front door.
"Yes! Do let us in! This fog is going to ruin our hair!"
(Bluff 14, Disguise 17)
Syr Thursday September 27th, 2001 3:09:33 AM
Syr takes a moment to assess his surroundings then walks over to the bed a lies down on it. After a moment, he gets up and glances down at the covers, nodding to himself as he surveys the impression left on the bed. Walking out of the room he tries to find a set of stairs leading down.
Plink Thursday September 27th, 2001 8:33:24 AM
"Indeed, sirs (ooc: and ladies if there are any present), we merely wished to enjoy the glorious night. We're done now, however, and are thus heading back. Don't let us interrupt your game, continue, continue." He holds Jez tight, emphasizing their "relationship" to the help, and leads her inside.
DM JK Thursday September 27th, 2001 11:40:20 AM
[Sorry, front door was closed. That's why the guard was looking through the glass instead of the open door. ;)]
Plink and Jezebella make it in to the house without incident. The help obviously doesn't care who comes in. They find themselves in a kitchen. There are a couple of women inside cleaning up. One of them, an old matronly sort, lifts up a broom, "If yas wants a room. Look upstairs. I won't be havin none o' that in me kitchen." She points to a narrow set of stairs in the corner that are obviously intended for servants. Music drifts in from a pair of closed swinging doors. Obviously the party lies that way.
Syr notes that there is absolutely nothing remarkable about the bedroom. It certainly doesn't look fit for a lord or his guests. Likely he's found the servants quarters. He makes his impression in the bed and moves toward the door. Just before opening it, he hears someone moving down the hall. A board in the floor right in front of the door creaks loudly. They're standing right in front of this room. The doorknob starts to turn...
One of the guards, the one that wasn't too concerned about the fog starts to open the front door, but the other stops him, "We just need to check your invitation miladies." Miranna waves her hand absently at Drew. When no invitation is immediately forthcoming, the guard continues, "The party's nearly over, and you don't have the look of crashers to me. My friend and I will be leaving soon, but we don't have any money for drinks." The second guard, obviously the dumb one, stops trying to open the door and grins at the obvious attempt to solicit a bribe.
Miranna d20+3=12 Thursday September 27th, 2001 10:25:39 PM
Miranna's emerald eyes widen in shock at the guards' solicitation of a bribe. She displays that expression to the guards for effect (Bluff=12), then turns to Tiree. "Is it common practice in this city for guards to ask for money from their employer's guests? In my home city, such an act would be tantamount to betrayal."
While she is talking and hopefully capturing the guards' attention, Miranna slips a hand through the slit in her gown and retrieves 10 gold pieces from her belt pouch. Praying that the fog will conceal her action, she moves closer to Drew and attempts to pass him the gold secretly while continuing to talk. "Drew, do you not have the invitation? How careless of you to lose it. If tales of my being denied entrance to a party reach home, I shall be the joke of the city!"
Once Drew has the 10 gold, Miranna turns back to the guards with a sigh of resignation. "My guard must have lost the invitation. I hope he has not lost my money too. Drew, will you give them some gold for drinks?"
The elf moves towards the door as if expecting it to open before her.
Polaris Thursday September 27th, 2001 11:09:11 PM
Polaris watches the guards carefully as Miranna talks to them. She smiles and bats her eyes a little. Of course a little halfling going to a party would only be going to flirt. She keeps close enough to not get left behind, but far enough so that she would not be crowding Miranna and Drew.
Syr Friday September 28th, 2001 2:44:53 AM
Syr sees the knob starting to turn and quickly moves to sit down on the bed.
Miranna (Clarification) Friday September 28th, 2001 5:09:28 AM
While she is talking and hopefully capturing the guards' attention...
should have been:
While she is talking and hopefully diverting the guards' attention...
(That comes of posting in the morning after less than 5 hours of sleep. Blame BGII: Throne of Bhaal. ;P)
Jezebella Friday September 28th, 2001 8:12:30 AM
Assuming Plink doesn't lead her elsewhere, Jez continues her drunken lean againt him, and staggers into the room ajoining the kitchen.
Tiree Friday September 28th, 2001 8:42:50 AM
Tiree pulls out her small coin purse.
"I really don't have much on me. Father never lets me out with more than ten gold. He knows I'd spend it!" She giggles lightly. "But you can have all I've got. She reaches in and pulls out the ten gold and hands it to the nearest guard. "Father will give me more when I get home."
Drew Friday September 28th, 2001 9:02:02 AM
Drew steps foreward and stares at the guard. Then wispers to the guard "I lost nothing, The silly little birds all letft them at home. they were complaining about it on the way over. We have been sitting out there in the street for the last hour and then when this fog came up they tried to make a break for it. If it will help quite the birds and allow them in then please drink well tonight." He then shakes the guards hand palming the 5 gold to him, he shakes the other guards hand and does the same.
Into the house (DM JK) Friday September 28th, 2001 12:09:35 PM
Syr makes it to the bed just about the time the door opens. A young human lady of about 18 years with red hair sticking out from under what looks to be a maid's cap, jumps back in suprise with a small squeak. Then she eyes Syr with a menacing look, "Don't know what that Lord Henwald told you, but it isn't true. I'm not that kind of girl. Now get out before I call Jorel."
After taking Miranna's 10 gold and Tiree's 10 as well. The smarter guard gives Drew a knowing look and whispers, "Bet these silly girls don't even have any idea how many drinks 10 gold a piece will buy." Then he nods to the other guard, "Let our guests in. Don't keep them waiting out in the weather." The door opens wide to admit everyone. As you go inside the smart guard speaks to Drew again, "We get off at 2 if you want to go out and help spend some of this money on some decent entertainment."
The group from the front door walks into a main room just as Jezebella and Plink come in from the kitchen. You seem to notice each other first and have confirmation that everyone made it inside, with the possiblt exception of Syr. After this discovery, the rest of the room comes into focus. The giant square room looks to be approximately 1000 square feet. The room is clearly designed for entertaining guests. No doubt the more intimate settings are to be found upstairs. The double front doors stand on the front wall which is lined with windows. The kitchen door stands in the middle of the back room. The wall on the right features a grand staircase and a few pieces of artwork. A guard stands at the foot of the stares, but he seems intent on staring at some of the young girls dancing in the center of the room. A few of their partners have noticed his stare, but he doesn't seem to have noticed their baleful looks. The back wall features a pair of swinging doors that lead into the kitchen. Jezebella and Syr are still standing in front of these. A few feet away there is a great pair of glass doors. These are closed, but you can see that the dining room is beyond. The handles are tied together with a bit of string. Continuing on to the corner, you see a string quartet up on a small platform. Currently they are playing an elegant dance number for the folks dancing in the center of the room. Near the center of the left wall, a bar has been set up. The three bartenders look like they've had a busy night. Several middle-aged lordlings are standing at the bar discussing what looks to be some sort of weighty matter. In the front left corner of the room there is a cluster of tables. These seem to be filled with women that can't get their dates to dance and old men that are tired of standing up. Throughout the room, small groups are clustered about talking to one another. A few eyes look up for those that enter by the front door, but no one seems to take any real interest in any of you. There are perhaps as many as 500 revelers in the room. Servants drift through the crowd carrying drinks from the bar as well as food.
Drew notices a group of what must be other guards standing near the door to the kitchen. They look thoroughly bored and are just talking to themselves. One of them waves at Drew to come on over.
[he he. I got just under 5 hours of sleep myself last night due to BG I. I know. I know. I'm behind.]
Drew Sunday September 30th, 2001 2:44:14 AM
Drew checks with his employer and tells her that he will be by the other guards if he is needed. he then crosses to them and stands with them. He makes polite conversation and tries not to be rude but never takes his eyes off of Miranna. If asked or teased about his devotion to duity he relpys/ "I am docked a silver every time my eyes leave her and her companions. That may seem like a bad gig but with what they pay me its worth it."
Tiree d20+3=23 d20+7=24 Sunday September 30th, 2001 3:57:08 AM
Tiree takes a drink from one of the passing servants and turns to look more closely at the guests. She is specifically looking for someone who looks like Lord Peldivar (can't remember if we got a description or not) or is wearing a key (Spot 23).
As she moves around the room with Miranna, Tiree is constantly stumbling lightly into people or tripping a bit over her own feet. She keeps a look of concentration on her face to show that she is trying NOT to fall on people (Bluff 24).
Polaris Sunday September 30th, 2001 9:20:34 PM
Polaris looks all around at her surroundings. She takes a drink from a servant and sips it carefully. She starts to gaze at the other guests. As she sips on her drink, she prances around the room, seeming to others like she is lost in her own thoughts, a cover she throws to most people.
Miranna Sunday September 30th, 2001 9:31:01 PM
Miranna instructs her weasel to hide and remain hidden until she calls, before moving around the room with Tiree. She stops a servant to ask, "Might you know where Lord Peldivar is? I would like to thank him for his hospitality."
If the servant points out Lord Peldivar, she takes Tiree's hand and moves towards their target.
Jezebella d20+2=14 Monday October 1st, 2001 8:11:15 AM
The young woman wanders through the party, mingleing.. mostly abandoning her drunken facade, and leaving her 'date' to fend for himself (unless he follows). She makes small talk (cha check 14) for a while, untill she finds someone who seems to want to talk. She asks him/her.. "Would you know where our gracious host is...? I have heard that he is a fair dancer.. after a drink." She gives her would-be informant a not subtle wink. Should she be pointed in his direction, she will make her way through the crowd in that direction.
Syr Monday October 1st, 2001 11:31:05 AM
Upon seeing the young woman, Syr all but leaps off the bed and stammers, "I-I-I must have got the wrong room. You are not exactly what I was e-e-expecting either."
With a small bow of his head, "I beg your pardon, it seems someone has played a small joke on me. I think I'll return to the party and repay the favor."
He hurries past the serving girl while muttering an oath about women in general. Once he makes it to the bottom of the stairs he looks for the largest group of people and attempts to spot Lord who plays host to this revelry.
DM JK Monday October 1st, 2001 12:10:08 PM
Syr begins to make his way downstairs, but the girl calls after him, "It's quite alright. I suppose you could stay for a bit if you want."
In their own way, everyone discovers quickly who Lord Peldivar is. He's one of the pompous looking gentlemen speaking near the bar. The one in the red coat.
Tiree, Miranna, and Jezebella all arrive about the same time. The gentlemen pay no attention to their arrival. It sounds as if Peldivar is boasting about his frequent relations with one of the serving girls.
A fair faced gentleman stops Polaris and asks her for a dance.
Drew mixes in nicely with the other guards and chaperones. A few nod approvingly at amount of money he must be getting. One asks, "So, you arrived a bit late. Have you heard anything about this rumor that someone tried to break into Karnithis' temple? Sounds like craziness to me. Anybody would be mad to try that."
Drew Monday October 1st, 2001 5:18:54 PM
Looking at the other guard "Your kidding are they crazy who would do that???" and then cursing and looking back at his charge "Darn that will cost me!"
Miranna Monday October 1st, 2001 9:21:57 PM
Miranna walks right up to the bar, edging as close to Peldivar as she can without being too obvious. Her eyes appear to be on the array of drinks at the bar. If the bartenders look at her, she gives them a charming smile and asks if they can concoct a special drink for her, something worth telling her people back home about. She piles on her elven accent as heavily as she can.
If she catches the attention of any of the lordlings, she will flash him her most charming smile.
Syr Tuesday October 2nd, 2001 5:19:04 AM
Syr chuckles nervously and mumbles something incoherent over his shoulder to the serving girl.
As he makes it down to the party he slowly gravitates to Lord Peldivar's vicinty. Once near he attmepts to listen closely to the conversation.
Jezebella d20+2=16 Tuesday October 2nd, 2001 8:31:22 AM
Jez listens, with a sly smile, as the pompous twit rambles on about his 'relations' with the serving girls. After listening for a few minutes, she will interject when he stops to take a drink.
"So, my lord and host.. do you wish to share a drink and a dance with someone of more noble blood? Or do you prefer the company of servantgirls?" Her demeanor is sly and mischievous. (Cha check 16)
Tiree d20+3=21 d20+1=11 Tuesday October 2nd, 2001 11:28:24 AM
Tiree takes a step back and takes a drink while looking Peldivar over closely. Trying to get an idea about the key and how to lift it (Spot 21, Int 11)
DM JK Tuesday October 2nd, 2001 11:41:12 AM
Peldivar instantly agrees and escorts Jezebella to the dance floor. Pulling her close, he says, "I don't believe that I've had the pleasure of meeting you. I'm certain I would remember such a lovely lady. Who might you be?"
Miranna finds herself holding a sweet drink that could easily be used to start a fire. She also gains the attention of one of the lords that Peldivar just left. He bows and rattles off, "Lord Tyrna at your service. I don't know that I would drink that if I were you. Grego likes to get the girls drunk." He shoots a menacing glance at the bartender, but something in his manner makes Miranna think that Tyrna and Grego have some sort of sinister collaboration.
Syr has no difficulty spotting Peldivar as he comes down the stairs, but by the time he spots him, Jezebella is whisking him away to dance. Syr is in the perfect position to survey the other party guests as he descends though. (Make a spot check as you come down. Tell me the DC you make.)
One of the guards slaps Drew on the back, "Guess you haven't heard. Some group of imbeciles tried to break in there earlier tonight. Thought they could pick the locks of the gates or some such. The theives were all invisible. As if those nutty brokers hadn't thought of that before. Seems the spell set off the alarms. They got caught before they were 2 feet in." One of the other guards laughs, "Don't pay any attention to Keebles. He believes every silly rumor he ever heard. Why earlier tonight, he claimed the Lords of Diamonds were here to steal Peldivar's jewels."
Tiree finally bumps into a lady that doesn't take it lightly. She spins on Tiree with arched eyebrows and cries out in a haugty voice, "Just who do you think you are?"
Plink does a good job convincing everyone that he's about to pass out.
Polaris finds out her dancing partner can do little but step on feet.
Jezebella d20+6=18 d20+3=20 Tuesday October 2nd, 2001 1:33:12 PM
Jez smiles mysteriously at Peldivar's question as they dance. "Buy us some drinks, and perhaps I will tell you, good Lord Peldivar..." (perform - dance check 18) As they dance, she gradually holds him closer, especially if he gets the drinks. She will only sip at hers, leaving it on a table and then steering the dance away. If he asks more of her, she will give an increasingly sultry smile, and say.. "Buy us another."
She watches for the positions of her friends inconsipicually.. (spot 20) She will move her daggers out from the waist of her belt to her hips, with a wink to Peldivar, and then dance closer to him. She will, when she is close to one of her friends (preferably Syr), and he seems to be inebriated, look down at Peldivar's chest with a cross expression, and take his necklace with the precious key off from around his neck and deposit on the table.. dancing away as if it was of no consiquence, and holding Peldivar even closer.
(ooc : JK, that is alot of events that would have to go just the way I hope... discard anything that doesnt go quite the way Jez plans it... "best laid plans" and all that)
Syr the spotted one. d20+6=21 Tuesday October 2nd, 2001 2:23:52 PM
Spot Check as requested.
Drew Tuesday October 2nd, 2001 7:04:14 PM
Laughing along with the guard he chuckles and asks "Well point out this Keebles to me so I can definately avoid listing to words of warning from him!!!" As soon as the guard poits out Keeble to Drew he tries his best to memorize his face and see if he has ever seen him before.
Plink Tuesday October 2nd, 2001 8:40:24 PM
Plink, who seems to have been in a daze, has been standing for some time with his eyes glazed over. Quickly, he shakes his head, slightly jarring the cap atop it. He moves it back to position, coughs, and adjusts his lordly clothing. He attempts to locate a beautiful young lass with whom to dance, and introduces himself as, "Lord Radcliffe". He's always keeping an eye on Lord Peldivar, as well as glancing occasionally at his fellow family members, to see what they are up to.
Polaris Tuesday October 2nd, 2001 9:22:46 PM
Polaris is patient with her fellow dancer but her little feet are getting a little swollen, so she politely excuses herself to get a drink and look for her next dancing partner, who hopefully won't hurt her toes. As she stops she looks around for anything suspicious, and she checks on her siblings.
Miranna d20+3=4 Tuesday October 2nd, 2001 10:55:44 PM
Miranna curtseys gracefully to Lord Tyrna and opens her emerald eyes wide at his words. "Oh! So fortunate for me that you, Lord Tyrna, are at hand to warn me!" She pouts prettily at Grego and puts down her drink. Turning back to Lord Tyrna, she inclines her head and asks, coquettishly, "What of you, Lord Tyrna? Do you like to get girls drunk too?"
She chatters on with Lord Tyrna in elven-accented Common. If asked for her name, she gives it as Lady Katrina. At the soonest opportunity, she asks to be introduced to his friends, and tries to weasel some information out of him about their host, particularly about his famed jewels if possible, without seeming overly interested.
(CHA roll 4 - choke, gaggle...)
Tiree True d20+2=4 Wednesday October 3rd, 2001 9:49:16 AM
Tiree whips around and stumbles a bit.
"Oh! I'm terribly sorry! I just wasn't watching where I was going. I was paying more attention to my cousin over there than my own feet. Please forgive me madam. I am Lady Ferrah. My friends call me FumbleFoot." (Cha 4 yuck!)
DM JK Wednesday October 3rd, 2001 11:32:26 AM
The guard that told Drew about Keebles says, "He's the one that just told that rumor, you nit. Standing right there next to you. I wouldn't mind gettin paid to look at the ladies, but you still out to pay attention to your blokes. By the by, I'm Sean. That's Mitchum. And over here is Mook." Drew doesn't recognize a one of them.
On the other hand, Syr spots someone that he knows as he moves down the staircase. Actually he spots several someones. About half of the Silver Princess' team is here at the party. Like you they are scattered about. They don't seem interested in speaking to Peldivar, and they don't seem to have noticed Syr or any of the others. But they're certainly up to something.
Plink meets with failure a time or two but finally finds a lovely young girl that is eager to dance with him. She almost immediately begins pressing into Lord Radcliffe and whispers a lewd suggestion in his ear. It seems she noticed him coming out of the kitchens and has a few ideas of what might have happened in there. Through the dance he manages to keep an eye on Jezebella, but only just.
As Polaris excuses herself, she sees Syr up on the stairs frowning at someone. She notices the other team as well.
Miranna finds that Tyrna is all too eager to help, "Gentlemen this is the Lady Katrina. Judging from her looks I think that she's had a bit too much to drink. See how sickly she looks. Perhaps we should take care of her. It seems she is looking for a man with some money. Likely heard of Peldivar's silly diamond. I assure you milady, that silly hunk of rock wouldn't make a decent ring. It's much too large. I have the most money of all of us here. If you really want a treat..." He blathers on and on. Mostly about how much money he has. He seems quite unconcerned with however much Lady Katrina stumbles over her tongue and accepts that she's had too much to drink. It just seems to make him that much more eager.
The woman doesn't react any better to Tiree, "Lady Ferrah?!? Ferrah the Tart more like! Who's paying for your company this evening?" A crowd of ladies begins to gather. It seems they're attracting a bit of attention.
Jezebella works her charms on Peldivar, and it seems to be working. He was becoming interested, but then he notices Tiree's situation and whispers to Jezebella, "It looks like the Lady Tyrna has found one of her husband's... er, uh guests. This should be enjoyable." He drifts away to watch. Unconcious of Jezebella's hand on his chest. Of course that isn't to say he wouldn't notice if she whipped it off his head.
Syr and Polaris are pretty certain that members of the Silver Princess' team will recognize Tiree pretty soon. Whether that's good or bad is hard to say.
Jezebella d20+6=24 d20+3=21 Wednesday October 3rd, 2001 12:00:02 PM
The young woman takes the Lordling into her embrace, kissing him passionately. She breaks the kiss as he runs out of breath, and murmers with a sultry smile... "Pay attention to your current .. partner, good lord Pelivar."
She then contiues to feed him drinks and dance .. trying to get the oppertunity to use her ruse that the key is bothering her to remove it. (dance 26, spot 21)
Drew Wednesday October 3rd, 2001 9:56:18 PM
Drew laughs and then holds out his hand. "Drew is my name. Im new in town and seem to be the only one who was a sucker enough to take this job, but I needed the money." The laughing again he asks "Keebles, where did you hear such a rediculous rumor?"
Miranna Wednesday October 3rd, 2001 10:22:47 PM
Miranna giggles girlishly as Lord Tyrna boasts about his riches. "My family has money enough to last me a lifetime, my lord, but money cannot buy all the beautiful things that we desire. I had heard that Lord Peldivar's diamond was rare and priceless. Tell me, would he sell it for any price? Have you seen it yourself?"
If she notices Tiree's predicament, she points her cousin out to Lord Tyrna and asks if he knows the woman confronting Tiree.
Tiree True d20+2=16 Thursday October 4th, 2001 12:03:45 AM
Tiree begins to stand a bit straighter and put on a haughty air.
"Madame. I find your remarks quite tasteless. I won't be so bold as to ask you to retract them. Most without honor do not care what they say. I on the other hand do. I will not remark on your weight, or your hideous dress. Nor will I remark on the wrinkles of your face. When I leave tonight, make no mistake that I will mention this outrage to my grandfather."
With that statement, Tiree turns away and begins to make her way, very carefully, toward Miranna.
Tiree (again) d20+7=20 Thursday October 4th, 2001 12:29:27 AM
Sorry that was a Charisma check up there (16) and I forgot my Bluff check (20)
Syr d20+9=23 d20+5=20 Thursday October 4th, 2001 4:21:05 AM
Syr notices the group from the Silver Princess and tries to stay on the fringes of the crowd. He keeps a close eye on them as he edges coser to Lord Peldivar. (Hide in Shadows-23)
Without appearing to, he attempts to study the opposing party, trying to determine what they are concentrating on (Spot 20).
Holding the key - DM JK Thursday October 4th, 2001 10:20:46 AM
Tyrna explains to Miranna, "That hideous sack of skin is my wife." He frowns as she mentions Peldivar again and tries to redirect the conversation toward himself.
Most of the onlookers try to suppress giggles as Tiree counters her attackers onslaught. A few are unsuccessful and laugh outright. The Lady Tyrna blushes like a beet and begins stammering before she turns and retreats from the situation.
Syr works his way down through the crowd toward Jezebella. He quickly decides that sneaking through the crowd is more likely to draw attention than walking boldly toward the bar with a purpose (hide in shadows successful, after a fashion). The opposing team seems to be talking to the guests in much the same way. They've simply selected different guests and have been making no move toward Peldivar. Syr notes that Tiree was spotted during her confrontation. One member of the Silver team starts spreading the word. Syr makes it to Jezebella and Peldivar...
Peldivar leans back and takes a deep breath. "My dear, you simply must come to all of my parties." He finally notices that she has been looking at his key and takes it off and hands it to her as he launches into a drunken ramble, "That milady, is the key to the best guarded vault in the Temple of Karinthis. Within the vault lies my most treasured possession. It's a magic diamond the size of your pretty head. If I sold it, I'd be richer than any other 10 men here put together."
Keebles tells Drew, "There's a broker at the party. He brought the news." He points the man out to Drew, and Drew sees what Syr has already noticed. The Silver Princess' team is here. And they're talking to one of the priests of Karinthis! Drew also notices that Jezebella is now holding Peldivar's key, and he perceives something about the situation...(see email Anthony)
Jezebella d20+6=13 d20+3=14 Thursday October 4th, 2001 11:22:29 AM
She smiles, and gives some polite attention to the key, listening to Peldivar. After he takes a breath, she murmers... "Interesting... but, good lord Peldivar, it is not what I am interested in at this moment. And... it is in my way." She hugs herself against him tightly. "Lad, hold this." She hands the necklace to Syr, as if it was of no importance. She then continues to dance with Peldivar. (dance 13, spot 14)
Tiree Thursday October 4th, 2001 3:35:39 PM
Tiree makes her way back over to Miranna.
"I'm terribly sorry to interrupt, but did you see how that rude woman treated me? Me? Lady Farrah? Although no one really calls me Farrah, everyone even you call me FumbleFoot."
She pauses and looks at Miranna and her gentleman. "I'm sorry. I was rambling wasn't I? I do that whenever I get excited, or anxious, or nervous, or..."
Tiree slaps a hand over mouth and then lowers it smiling shyly.
"Sorry again. I'll go away now."
She turns and moves to get another drink.
Drew Thursday October 4th, 2001 9:31:54 PM
As soon as he sees Tiree apraoch Miranna he groans "Ohhh no not her again!" and starts out fast across the floor pushing Syr out of the way hard and sending him sliding across the floor toward Polaris with the key. "Out of my way!" Upon reaching Miranna he bows deeply. "Pardons Misstress." Then standing up he begins shouting at Tiree. "I have told you a thousand times, stay away from my misstress. Her father has demanded that you be no where near her, you are worthless scumm!!" Turning back to Miranna he says. "I am sure misstress that you do not wish to make a huge scene Right Now, and I probably deserve to be slapped for treating a friend of yours in such a way but your father said..." and he turns back to Tiree and begins shouting at her and pusshing her. "that this gutter snipe, harrlot was to NEVER SPEAK TO YOU AGAIN!!!!!" and his face is very low, close to Tirees, easily within arms reach!
Miranna and Weasel d20+5=20 Thursday October 4th, 2001 9:52:15 PM
Miranna giggles at Tiree's explanation and tells her, "That woman is the wife of Lord Tyrna here, Fumblefoot. But you got the better of -" winking at Lord Tyrna, "that hideous sack of skin." She giggles again at the joke while turning her head around as if to look for that hideous sack of skin. Her real object is Jezebella and Lord Peldivar.
If she notices (Spot 20) that Jezebella has passed the key to Syr, she mentally commands her weasel to come out of hiding and run across the dance floor, brushing against a few legs while passing. Miranna calculates that this will raise a few screams and cause enough distraction for Syr to do the duplication. (Is the duplicator with Syr or Polaris?) If anyone starts taking out weapons or casting spells, she tells her weasel to run to her and hide in her skirt.
Miranna (after Drew's post) Thursday October 4th, 2001 10:09:49 PM
[The above happens before Drew reaches Miranna. After Drew reaches her - ]
Miranna is genuinely shocked at Drew's behaviour, then realizes that he is creating a diversion too. Staring at her bodyguard with as much anger as she can muster, she interposes herself between Drew and Tiree without a word.
Syr d20+4=17 Friday October 5th, 2001 3:07:37 AM
Syr lets out a large breath of air as he is elbowed in the back and sent sprawling to the ground. From the floor, he looks up at the halfling's face. As he rises, he places both hands near her feet and levers himself up. With careful grace (dex check 17), he leaves the key and necklace on the floor next to her foot.
Once upright, he moves away from the halfing and makes a show of checking his clenched fist for the necklace. After a brief attempted look he nods to himself.
dm jk Friday October 5th, 2001 9:45:15 AM
Everyone works on creating a diversion while Jezebella and Syr start passing the key about. The silent guard named Mook goes running after the weasel bumping into guests and the like. The Lady Tyrna focuses on Tiree once again. People turn and start to watch the show. Syr scabbles along on the floor and leaves the key a Polaris' foot, but she doesn't seem to notice. The key is kicked by someone dodging the weasel, and its somewhere out on the dance floor.
Tiree Friday October 5th, 2001 10:00:18 AM
Tiree turns in shock at Drew when he charges up and begins to insult her.
"Drew? I don't understand? Uncle never said anything to me! Besides, my cousin is here visiting me so how can I keep away from here. Are you feeling alright Drew?"
Miranna and Weasel d20+5=8 Friday October 5th, 2001 11:31:42 AM
Not noticing that the key is lost (Spot 8), Miranna concentrates her attention on the diversions. She commands her weasel to continue running across the floor, in and out of some ladies' skirts to avoid pursuit.
Meanwhile, she just stares at Drew, her face getting increasingly flushed. She attempts to look too angry to talk.
Drew d20+4=24 d20+6=22 d20+6=24 Friday October 5th, 2001 2:28:45 PM
Drew picks up Tiree and holds the small girl up in the air shouting. "I TOLD YOU TO LEAVE" He then squeezes her tight in a bear hug. In her ear he wispers "Scream" once the girl pretends to be in pain he wispers quickly and silently in her ear. "The key is sliding around on the floor somewhere. (spot of 24) Now I hope you can tumble well cause Im about to throw you out there." With that Drew tosses the girl out into the middle of the dance floor. (as gently as he can but still make it look bad.) (str 22) (dex 24)

JK Friday October 5th, 2001 6:36:02 PM
relevant posts on the possession of the key duplicator: Miranna's 9/21 - Miranna gave the duplicator to Polaris. Syr's 9/24 - suggested that he should have the duplicator And then no one talked about it anymore. -I think Polaris still has it, but since she hasn't posted since Tuesday, I have no problem with Syr having it.
In other news, Jan (PhyrbalXL5@aol.com) will be taking over as DM on Monday as I go on a brief dming vacation. I'll probably be back in a couple of weeks. She'll be getting in touch with you guys.
(Sorry for stepping on JK's toes here but Polaris went into the hospital today... Something about Wisdom teeth...dont know when shell be posting so Syr having it might be a good idea except that he put the key down.)

[Can we roll back to the last day when Syr had the key and we just started our diversions? I thought Syr had the duplicator too, 'cos nobody objected to him having it instead of Polaris.
The alternative would be to let Polaris have the duplicator and somebody play Polaris in the meantime, to make the story still be logical after Syr put the key on the floor. I can post for Polaris if nobody else has the time, although I don't really like halflings.]
Syr (OOC) Friday October 5th, 2001 11:54:59 PM
ARGH I wish I'd known that. Since I never saw Polaris give me the duplicator. I roleplayed the fact that she still had it HOPING that she would place a foot over it until I moved away and later copy it while all the distractions are going on.

For the sake of simplicity - No going back. Let Syr have the duplicator (which he 'could' roleplay taking it from Polaris - OR if Pol is back and feeling fine - they can work something out together - but make it quick). I'll see if I can dig up Plink.
Okay - get back in character and let's rock - DM post to follow.
DM Jan Monday October 8th, 2001 3:06:20 PM
As Tiree flies through the air, lands with a bump, but slides gracefully toward the key - Lady Tyrna states huffily -
"I knew she was a strumpet, just by the look of her." The surrounding ladies look on. Until suddenly, Miranna's weasel erupts into the throng causing the ladies to scream and scatter.
The guards by the kitchen door are laughing at Silent Mook after the weasel and the general uproar, although a couple of them are watching Drew with a mixture of surprise, delight and suspicion.
Polaris and Syr can see the key and Tiree sliding toward it. For the moment it doesn't look as though anyone else has noticed the object. This of course could change very quickly, as they both are aware of the Silver Princess's team edging closer. Practiced thieves - the other team can tell when "something is up".
Somewhat befuddled with what's going on - Peldivar asks Jezebella - "What the dickens is going on?" before lurching toward the commotion.
Lord Tyran is similarly curious, but somewhat distracted by seeing his wife run like a sprinter away from the weasel.
Tiree d20+3=17 Monday October 8th, 2001 6:46:52 PM
Tiree, seeing the key, tries to steer her sliding body toward it to grab it without causing a hugs wreck on the dancefloor (Dex 17).
Polaris Monday October 8th, 2001 10:04:50 PM
Polaris, at the same time as Tiree, makes a nice, calm dance move towards the key, to try to step on the key underneath her long gown to hide all suspicions, not like anyone has any anyways.
OOC- I'll keep the duplicator unless Syr objects.
Jezebella d20+2=19 Monday October 8th, 2001 10:24:18 PM
Jez smiles winsomely at Peldivar... (cha check 19)
"My good Lord, a woman might think you are uninterested in her if every little noise distracts you from her... dance with me. I promise you a very.. interesting.. night."
Drew (Anthony) Monday October 8th, 2001 10:55:33 PM
Drew Stands beside Mirinna looking like a protector who will do anthing to protect his charge from the strumpet he threw across the floor.
Miranna and Weasel d20+3=13 Monday October 8th, 2001 11:08:04 PM
Miranna gasps in genuine shock. Her eyes follow Tiree's path through the air and note that she lands rather near Syr and Polaris - and presumably the key. In a desperate bid to draw attention away from the trio, the elf turns an angry face to Drew. "Drew, what is the meaning of this - this outrage! You have disgraced me publicly! You - you -" She throws herself suddenly into Lord Tyrna's arms, sobbing inconsolably. (Bluff 13) Miranna hopes that Lady Tyrna will see this scene.
Meanwhile, she commands her weasel to continue running in circles away from where Tiree is.
Syr (Scott) Tuesday October 9th, 2001 1:58:16 PM
Syr sees Polaris and Tiree move towards the key and nods to himself. Looking over their heads he notices the Silver Princess' team edging closer. With a wide grin and an arm stretched out for a handshake, he casually interposes himself between the opposing team and the key. "So do you come here often?"
DM Jan Tuesday October 9th, 2001 6:20:57 PM
Tiree manages to grab the key and is now right next to Polaris. Most of the guards are still watching the Drew and Miranna scenario with interest. Some of the ladies are standing on chairs as the weasel continues wreaking havoc, including Lady Tyrna who is staring quite hatefully at Miranna despite Drew's imposing presence. "Throw them out!" she cries. "This commotion is all their fault!" For the moment, Jezebella succeeds in distracting Peldivar - who's face breaks into a leer. Suddenly its like he's grown six other hands and they're wandering all over the place.
As for the Silver Princess crowd - some of them shake Syr's hand in bemusement. They're still trying to figure out whats going on. Syr can see their faces trying to work it out - where's the action? Over by Miranna and Drew? But if so - why is this elf suddenly stuck in their way?
Plink d20+7=27 Tuesday October 9th, 2001 7:43:02 PM
(OOC: Dear Oh Dear, I've been doing it again. I stop posting for a while, and I don't want to disgrace you all with any excuse. I forget, plain and simple. That's it. I owe far more to the gracious DMs and as well the Players here at the Wold, and yet, I forget to post. Boggle, how could I be so rude? I swear, here and now, that I *WILL* post daily henceforth, as it is my duty to you all. My deepest, most heartfelt apologies to each and every one of you.)
Plink, not knowing fully what he should do at the moment, but deciding another distraction couldn't hurt, bows to the mistress he's been dancing with for some time now, and steps away. He walks up to the musicians, and asks them kindly, "Sirs, do any of you have a flute that you could loan me?" If they proceed to have a float, and loan it to him, he licks his lips, and begins to play, quite loudly, a nice, soothing melody, one that will hopefully gather attention around him, and away from those in his party that are doing their part (Perfrom 37, natural 20!)
Drew d20+2=19 d20+8=25 Wednesday October 10th, 2001 12:35:30 AM
Drew crosses to Miranna quickly saying "Lady I am sorry, I am just following orders." but "acidently" trips on his axe handle (Bluff 19, Tumble 25) and rolls head over heels knocking into and possibly over Miranna and Lord Tyrna. (and anyone else not of our group that he can get.)
Tiree Wednesday October 10th, 2001 1:29:35 AM
Tiree quickly stands and falls over her own two feet into Polaris and hands off the key to her. As she is attempting to right herself, she whispers to Polaris, "Get the key back to Syr or Jez when you are done. Somehow."
Standing straight once again, Tiree attempts to cross the dance floor without tripping over her own feet and once again approaches Drew and Miranna. She has a very determined look upon her face.
Miranna and Weasel d20+6=13 d20+3=5 Wednesday October 10th, 2001 5:39:16 AM
With a yell of surprise that is partly genuine, Miranna clutches onto Lord Tyrna as Drew knocks into her, pulling the gentleman down with her. She attempts to maneuvre her fall such that Lord Tyrna is pinned under her. (Tumble 13) She makes no attempt to get up, but instead starts pummelling Lord Tyrna with her fists while crying hysterically, "Help! Guards! Papa! Help me!" (Bluff 5)
At the same time, Miranna sends a mental command to her weasel to run towards the front door and get ready to bolt. She calculates that the key duplication should be about done.
Polaris Wednesday October 10th, 2001 10:51:25 AM
Polaris takes the key and places it in the duplicator, which she has hidden under a glorious overcoat. She begins to dance merrily with herself as she waits for it to finish.
She stops when it is finished, places the duplicator and the new key in her handbag, then takes the original key and dances over to Syr. She grabs his hand and asks him for a dance. In the hand which she grabs is the key, and she places it in his.
Jezebella Wednesday October 10th, 2001 8:08:04 PM
Jez smiles, attempting to maintain the dance, amist the roaming hands... she inwardly curses herself and her friends for not planning this better.
DM Jan Wednesday October 10th, 2001 10:29:12 PM
((Welcome back Plink! :) ))
As the weasel streaks for the main door, the guards decide on action, roll up their sleeves and head for the pile on the floor which is Drew, Miranna, and Tyrna, with Tiree approaching rapidly.
"Right, lads!" announces one of them. "Let's throw 'em out." The music coming from Plink appears to relax some of the ladies who were scared of the weasel. Something seems to dawn on Peldivar as Jezebella dances on with him. "Where the dickens is my key?" he asks, his eyebrows raised to the ceiling.
Meanwhile..... Polaris manages to whisk Syr away and hand him the key, now duplicated.
Miranna and Weasel Thursday October 11th, 2001 4:16:10 AM
Miranna screams hysterically when the guards' hands touch her. She struggles and clutches onto Lord Tyrna, making it as difficult as she can for the guards to get any solid hold on her.
If Drew or Tiree is thrown out, Miranna will stop struggling and leap to her feet, burst into tears and run out the front door, mentally calling her weasel to follow.
Jezebella Thursday October 11th, 2001 7:10:16 AM
The gypsy girl lets her own hands wander as she answers.... and swallows a bit of self loathing. "I gave it to a lad to hold.. him, I think." She nods to Syr, hoping all has gone well.
Drew d20+2=15 d20+8=23 Thursday October 11th, 2001 11:51:31 AM
Drew stands back up and then slips and trips over the bodies on the floor rolling out of the way to avoid crushing anyone but toward the approaching guards and hopefully tripping some of them as well. (Bluff 15 Tumble 23)
Syr Thursday October 11th, 2001 1:05:44 PM
Syr lets the chain the key is on dangle from his hand.
If approached by Lord Peldivar, he calmly hands over the key with a slightly bemused expression on his face.
Afterwards, he finds Polaris in the crowd and suggests, "Whuy don't you and I find a place more comfortable?"
Tiree Thursday October 11th, 2001 10:21:41 PM
Tiree, seeing the guards going for Miranna and Drew, decides to move quickly.
In a loud voice she announces to Miranna and Drew,"I have never been so embarassed in my life! Cousin I can not imagine what your father will say about your behavior. And you, Drew. You may lose your job for this. My grandfather will not be pleased with your performance this evening. Especially after I tell him about your feelings for your charge."
With that, Tiree turns on her heel and marches out the door.
DM Jan Thursday October 11th, 2001 10:31:28 PM
"Ah....." says Peldivar, looking relieved and grabbing the key from Syr. He clumsily replaces it around his neck and grins at Jezebella.
One of the Silver Princess's lot see's the manouvre and narrows his eyes at Syr and Polaris.
Meanwhile - the weasel shoots out of the door, and Drew sweeps past Miranna and Tiree acting like a bowling ball amongst the guards, while Plink looks on. It's starting to look like it's 'definitely' time to leave. ((Everyone roll dex against DC12 to get outside without being apprehended.))
Miranna and Weasel d20+4=8 Friday October 12th, 2001 8:39:30 AM
Seeing Tiree head towards the door, Miranna stops her struggling and leaps to her feet. She notes the looks that are now directed at her and bursts into tears from genuine embarrassment. Covering her face in her hands, she runs after Tiree, but feels herself restrained by strong hands before she has taken many steps. (Dex roll 8)
The weasel makes it out of the house safely, but stops not far off to wait for her mistress.
Drew d20+4=22 Friday October 12th, 2001 10:32:28 AM
Drew stads up and avoids being man handled, he looks around and sees that most of his family is making it out. When he sees Miranna caught he crosses to her and pulls himself hp to his full strength and imposing stature. To the guards he says, "Please allow her to walk freely, we were leaving anyway, you may feel free to escort us if you wish." Then to the room he remarks in a loud voice. "Congradulations Ladies and Gentlemen, you have just witnessed a rare performance of the Joking Players, avalible to perform any manner of practical jokes on your friends at ANY function. we were hired tonight by some one here at this party, just try to guess who!! If you have someone you want gotten, just contact us through the job posting boards!! Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen and goodnight!!!" With that he offers his arm to Miranna and leads her out of the house.
Tiree d20+3=22 Friday October 12th, 2001 10:59:56 AM
Tiree, makes a sweeping exit through the door narrowly missing the hands of some of the guards. She sees that Miranna is being restrained and the Drew goes back to her. Since Drew is there, she doesn't go back. Instead, she stands just outside the house and waits for her friends to show.
Syr d20+4=11 Friday October 12th, 2001 1:55:46 PM
Syr begins weaving his way through the crowd to the door until he runs into the chest of a large guard. With a loud "Oomph" he sprawls on the floor from the contact. Looking up his eyes widen as he realizes his predicament.
Polaris Friday October 12th, 2001 4:16:27 PM
Polaris curtseys to the guests around her and dances her way to the door until she reaches the point where Syr is. She looks at the guard, then looks to Syr, then looks at the door. She trys to decide which way would be the best to go.
DM Jan Friday October 12th, 2001 10:39:50 PM
Tiree, Drew and the weasel make it outside okay, although Drew then does the gallant thing and heads back inside.
The guards, a little intimidated by the barbarian, let Miranna go, so she is able to walk out on her own.
Poor Syr is not so lucky, and the guards pounce and gleefully throw him outside. ((SYR - roll DEX check DC10 to avoid 1 damage))
Jezebella and Plink - are similarly ejected from the building unless they manage to avoid the guards. ((DEX against DC 12))
Peldivar is left looking rather stunned in the middle of the dancefloor. The Silver Princess team are not doing a particularly good job of hiding their smirks.
Outside - all looks clear on the Gold Level for the party to return to Yorik.
Tiree True Saturday October 13th, 2001 12:23:20 PM
Tiree looks at her family and fellow thieves for the evening and smiles a little.
"I hope all of you are okay. Polaris you have the you know what, right? Keep a very good eye on it. I don't want anything to happen to it after what we just went through."
She rolls her eyes a bit, but keeps a smile on her lips.
"Next time, we might want to plan a bit better. But, for now, let's get back to you know who and you know where and give him the you know what."
Miranna and Weasel Saturday October 13th, 2001 1:01:10 PM
Miranna squeezes Drew's arm gratefully before releasing it. She calls her weasel to her and stoops to let it climb on her arm. Straightening, the elf strokes the soft fur of her familiar to calm herself after the excitement.
Tiree's expression and words bring an uncontrollable bout of giggling that, if not for the soothing effect of her weasel, might have exploded into maniacal laughter. "Tiree, I beg to disagree. It would not have been as much fun if we had planned a bit better. But yes, let us return to the one who waits."
Miranna will follow whomever takes the lead back to Yorick's station.
Jezebella d20+3=21 Saturday October 13th, 2001 2:49:48 PM
Jez notices guards coming at her with blood in their eyes. She assumes someone blew her cover, so she untangles herself from Peldivar, and blows him a kiss as she starts for the door. "Untill next time, my gracious host..." she then easily evades the guards (dex check 21) and scoots outside to meet with the others.
Drew Sunday October 14th, 2001 9:21:07 PM
Drew looks like he might be almost pouting. "I thought we did VERY well. I have rarely seen teamwork that good. I can't wait to check the bords next week and see if we get any new jobs as the Joking Players!"
Syr (1 point of damage) Monday October 15th, 2001 2:11:04 AM
Syr gulps as the guards close in on him. Ignoring his protestations, "I'M GOING ALREADY!" Two guards hoist him up and carry the small elf to the door. Once there, they count to three and then send him flying through the air. Syr does a loud belly flop on the hard stone, knocking the wind from his lungs.
The elf curls up into a small ball and hyperventilates until he feels the energy to stand.
Wincing at Drew, "Don't even consider going back for an encore!"
"Anyway, one down and three to go. I don't see why we can't make a copy of a copy? Or use that little device to copy other things, such as a coin, or something else small. What do you think?"
As the bounce returns to his step, "We're on a timelene, let's get back to our painted face leader and see what else is up his sleeve..."
He brushes his clothes off and leads the party back to Yorick's.
{OOC: Rolled a 9 for the dex check and then had a slight power surge, erasing the check}
Polaris Monday October 15th, 2001 10:03:41 AM
Polaris nods at Tiree assuring she has the duplicated key and the duplicator with her. She smiles to the rest of the group and then prances along back to help Syr up. As she does so he quickly towers over her. Until when he has stood all the way up she comes up to below his waist. The small halfling looks up at the elf and winks saying "It was an ..... intresting dance."
Plink d20+3=15 Monday October 15th, 2001 2:21:05 PM
Plink slips past the guards, right out the front door, managing to not be apprehended (Dex Check 12). Also, if they didn't notice, he hopes to keep the flute he just pocketed. He waits around, seeming to have arrived later than the rest, and wonders what their next plan of action is, and lets the rest begin formulating the plan of action.
