DM Kent
Wednesday September 19th, 2001 6:49:38 PM

Only a few minutes after you arrive your number is called and a rather young looking woman steps up to the Champion's counter and starts looking for who comes forward. As Ilsidur steps forward with Lui behind him she watches them with a raised eyebrow and then moves to them. Before you all can say a word she looks at Lui and smiles, "So Wigi, where have you been recently? We've missed you.

Lui blushes mightily and she chuckles a bit as she waits for them to ask for the information that they need. After listening for a moment as Lui tells her about your request for information, on the mudhound Mercs and Void, she nods. "Ah yes, I remember seeing a small envelope that was to be picked up this morning. While I go retrieve it, I need you to fill out the requisition forms and then the filing fee needs to be paid. Then it is all yours.

As she leaves, Lui reaches around Ilsidur and hastily takes the papers and starts filling them out for you. As he works he tells you that the fee should be somewhere around 10 silver per file request.

Moments later, just as Lui finishes the paperwork, she returns with two emvelopes, which are bundled together. She looks at them funnily for a moment and then looks at you, almost as quizickly. "I'm not sure what it means, and maybe I'm going crazy, but I could have sworn that there was a third envelope with these when I saw them earlier. But I must have been mistaken, for the paperwork only has these two listed." She hands you the files, looks over the paperwork, and then looks up at Lui. "Everything here is in order, That will be a 20 silver processing fee please."

(This stop has taken about 45 minutes.)

Ilsidur
Wednesday September 19th, 2001 11:31:17 PM

Ilsidur takes 3 gold pieces from his pouch and pays the clerk. "Thank you for your help. Hopefully these items give us the information that we need. Now, what can you tell me about that third envelope? We would make it very worth your while if you could look into what might have happened to it. Since we have been in this city, odd things have been happening to us. It is very easy for me to believe that there was a third envelope, and that it disappeared somehow, somewhere. Who might have been able to get to these envelopes and remove one, since the last time you saw the set?"

Once he receives the information from the clerk, he moves over to one side to look through the files, hoping for information that they can use on Void, the Mercs, and possibly Alyndar.

"Lui, is there a missing persons bureau here at city hall? Is there a place we can go that can do a magical search for our missing friend?"

Once he is finished reading the files, he passes them around to the rest of the party, and unless the clerk or Lui need them to stay at the Champions desk, Ilsidur heads over to Department C to claim Madame Chloe's body.

"Remember, you aren't paranoid if someone really is out to get you."

Sly whispers to Uteva 'do you think it would be worth while?'. Then sly receives the papers that was in the envelope. Sly passes the paper around to the others. Sly replies to Ilsidur comment," Paranoid is a word that has come alive lately." Then sly see that Uteva is going outside, "Teva wait for me! Come on Luke." Sly walks after Uteva.

Lok Mufflefoot
Thursday September 20th, 2001 2:39:29 PM

Feeling much better, the halfling wonders what is in the envelopes themselves and follows Lui anxiously awaiting the information inside. He takes a look around for any surly characters, and when they begin to leave simply follows quietly thanking the woman for her help.

Sir Thomas
Thursday September 20th, 2001 5:47:47 PM

Thomas rolls his eyes when the lady behind the desk speaks of a missing third envelop. In light of his recent atonement, he swallows his thoughts, leans forward and thanks the lady politely for her assistance. He is trying very hard to follow the renewed promises that he made to his Lord Alemi. He looks through the papers when they make their way around to him and when he finishes he passes them on. He listens intently to all that goes on while they are at city hall, and follows Ilsidur whereever he goes.

Uteva
Thursday September 20th, 2001 6:03:07 PM

The bard asks Lui, "And which department keeps records of people passing through the city gates? Alyndar may have left the city."

Teva shuffles along in Lui and Ilsidur's wake, reading papers and passing them along while she walks.

DM Kent  d20+14=26
Thursday September 20th, 2001 9:27:41 PM

The clerk looks around over her shoulders to see if any one is listening or watching. As she takes the coins, she leans forward and whispers. "Well to be honest the only reason I even noticed it was because it wasn't in one of our envelopes. Instead it was, hmm, a messenger service envelope. Yes im sure of it, let's see, I think it was orange trimmed with brown. if you need me to, I could look up the sevice's name and address. Now, as for who could have taken it, I would say that no more than 10 or fifteen people are authorized to be in the back rooms, but it would not be hard for someone else to slip in.

The information contained in the two envelope are of two sorts. The thinner envelope is a registered listing of all complaints and counter claims fought or negotiated by the Mudhound Mercs. There are several hundred. In about seventy five percent of them there was no negotiation offered and to a man the opposing champions were killed. There are no listings for the Mercs ever losing a challenge.

The second envelope is a bit more helpful. It lists names and businesses that have dealings with the Mercs and coincidently, your favorite messenger service is listed at the top. Also listed are several city and market officials, Bear, and several other Mercinary groups. Conspicuous in its absence is the name VOID.

At Isidur's question Lui breaks off his staring at the clerk and stammers. "A m m missing persons department? No, at least not as I take you to mean it. But we may well get our answer either in a sub department of Department C or perhaps the City Guard will know something. As for a magical search for your friend, there are certainly many such ways and places to do that though they are quite expensive. I would reccomend that you hold off on that until we have exhausted all other options. "So why are you so interested in these Mudhound Mercenaries?"

As you all make your way back out to the main hall and down to Department C, you run into a great mass of people all going about some business or other. (please make a spot or search roll DC 26)

(Spot check 27 Whew!)

After looking through envelopes, Altemia follows the rest of the group outside into the throng of people. Still thinking about the people she left and vowed to help, she is rather quiet and withdrawn.

Ilsidur  d20+4=22
Friday September 21st, 2001 12:09:34 AM

[OOC: missed the roll.]

Ilsidur turns around and faces the group, saying, "That orange-and-brown messenger service, again. I remember their name from the bridge fiasco: Note Swift. I wonder how they are tied into all of this. I also remember a towel boy at the inn giving us a note that said one of their messengers delivered something to Void and Bear. I wonder how their letter would end up with these other official files? I think they deserve an examination, as well as these Mudhound Mercs."

He addresses the clerk, "Could you provide us with a roster list for the Mudhound Mercenries, please? Also, how do we find out more about Note Swift Messenger Service?"

Then he turns to Lui, and says, "Lui, we ran into these Mudhound Mercenaries as we were entering the city, oh so long ago. They attacked a young girl in front of us, saying that she had stolen an item, and they had been hired to return it and her. One of their spells killed a young child in the lineup at the gate, and we took offence at their approach. We were able to stare the mercs down, and chase them away. Later on, we managed to raise the dead child. So, it is very likely these Mercs have a hate on for us, and are looking for revenge. Is it only a coincidence that they have been involved with Bear and likely, Void?"

"It looks like we are going to need to challenge these mercs, but first, we need to find out everything we can about them. Lui, can you make some contacts and find out anything more than these two files tell us?"

Ilsidur makes his way up to Department C, to find out about Madame Chloe. He approaches the clerk and says, "Good day. We are here to claim the body of our employer, a Madame Chloe Anstahl. She was assasinated a few days ago, and we wish to recover her if possible. Also, apparently, there is a subdepartment in your department that could help us locate a missing member of our group. Can you help us? We can make it worth your while."

(OOC)oops missed the role.But the DOG (Luke)roled a 24.

Sly's ears pick up when about Windy's encounter with those Mudhounds. "Do we still have that deck of cards we found right after Windy left us? I'll bet that is what there after." Said Sly," I remember that she was so afraid of something or somebody, that she could not even talk to Sir Thomas about it." Sly is deep in though as he follows the rest of the party.

Luke is sniffing the ground as they move along.

(rolled 12 + 1 or 2 = 13-14 OOC: I'm an campus and I'm not 100% sure about my modifiers)

Thomas walks into the hall among his group of friends. He feels like they are climbing a mountain with no top looking for Void, bear, and Alyndar. Where the heck did Aly go anyway? When hit with the mob of people Thomas tries to overcome his desire to go outside to get some personal space by greating people and holding doors and other such niceties. "Good morning sir. Allow me madam. Have a nice day sir." He makes his way to Department C with the rest of the group. "I think we have multiple leads to work with you guys. So many in fact that I'm not sure this is a doable task, but once we get Chloe out I think we need to start looking into some of these leads and stop looking for more leads to follow." Thomas offers the suggestion half-heartedly still feeling more like talking to his friends and following his heart than searching through the beaurocracy.

Ael d'Gaiaim
Monday September 24th, 2001 9:57:09 AM

Ael wanders off, and his friends notice his absence as they go about their business. He has left his possessions, so he obviously had some minor matters to attend to in the city. Why he did not feel the need to tell the others, none know.

OOC: Ael has gone to have a "look" at Madame Chloe's home, the site of her murder, by himself. Having prepared a number of divinations the night before (but not forgetting to keep invisibility and web memorized, should there be unpleasantness), he intends to gain access to the building, and spend the day snooping around. As is so rarely the case in obvious murders, he suspects foul play.)

Uteva
Monday September 24th, 2001 3:45:59 PM

Teva packs up the documents once everyone has had a look. "Lui, would a runner service be registered through the city offices? Would they have offices of their own away from the Bridge?" She counts heads and wonders where Ael has got to. What is it lately with mysteriously disappearing mages? (Auto-fail Spot check.)

DM kent
Monday September 24th, 2001 6:45:44 PM

The clerk turns as Ilsidur asks his parting questions, and succinctly states, " As it is, sure, but you know how groups of people change and move around, so it might not be accurate. As for the Messenger service, Im sure we have some information about them as well. If you will stop back by here on your way out, I should have something for you."

During your wander through City Hall on your way to Department C, Altemia notices a young, red-haired cleric carefully trying to avoid being seen following you all.

At Department C, there is no one waiting as you get there only moments after they open. The Late and obviously flustered clerk looks up at your request, with a suprised lok on his face.
"Madame Chloe? The armorer? She's gone already. I mean, umm, Let me see if we have someone here by that name. (he obviously, first answered automatically, without thinking, and is now trying to backtrack and cover his error) As for your missing mage, you may check through that door there, but it is unlikely that they can help you.

Lui turns to Uteva, ALL businesses and their cantrip must be registered, in order to do business here. As for offices some do some don't. I dont recognize the messenger service that you are describing, so probably not.

Ael makes his way to where Chloe and Mariette were murdered, without any difficulty and even finds that there is no one watching the place. As he approaches the room, Ael hears a noise coming from within. (make hear noise roll)

Thomas takes some initiative. "Ilsidur, I will look for the bodies in the next room. You should stay here and take care of what is going on because I think you know best right now." Thomas walks into the next room and looks for the bodies of either Chloe or Aly.

To Altemia, Teva mutters, "I'm getting tired of getting the run-around. Watch this." She pats Luke on the neck, stands and, turning on the charm, joins Ilsidur.

"Oh, leave be for a moment, Ilsidur," she admonishes, aiming a wink and a gamine grin at the clerk. "The poor man's clearly just got in -- let him catch his breath. We've most of the day ahead of us, and time to spare." The bard stands on tip-toes to put her elbows on the counter lean in closer to the clerk. "I can't decide which is worse about these errands through government buildings: the crowds, or the impatience of my fellows. You must deal with quite a lot of both from day to day -- how do you stand it?"

She lets the fellow shuffle his papers about, and keeps up such innocuous chatter until she judges he's relaxed and has forgotten his slip, then she tries to provoke another one. "Can you even recall specific people from the mass you see each day? For instance, when were the Mudhound Mercs here to claim the armorer's body?" (Sense Motive=19, Diplomacy=31)

Ilsidur
Tuesday September 25th, 2001 6:57:31 PM

Ilsidur smiles at Uteva's interrogation of the clerk. He moves into the other room, and whispers up to Sir Thomas, "Altemia noticed that red-haired cleric has been trying to follow us. Would you be able to come over with me and confront the follower, and see if he has any evil intentions?"

He moves out of the room and over to accost the red-haired cleric. "Good day sir, can I help you? My name is Ilsidur Wayfinder, and we are the Champions Southern Lights. You seem to be interested in us, perhaps you could tell us why? We would be willing to make it worth your while." Hopefully, Sir Thomas has managed to check the man over.

Ael gets just outside of the door and thinks he hears voices and then they are just gone and he hears absolutely nothing else coming from the room. he does notice though that the door latch has been messed with and has been rendered inoperative (in a locking sense).

The clerc is a bit relieved as most of the group heads in to look at bodies. Neither Chloe or Alyndar are to be found. As Teva chats with the clerk, he organizes a few things, responding casually to her comments and is totally caught off guard when she asks her questions. "Mud Hound Mercs? they aren't the ones claimed the Chloe. At east not as far as I know. Some Messenger service showed up with the forms and fees and carted her right off." They paid extra to keep quiet about it too." As he finishes speaking he realizes what he has said and turns beet red.

Altemia watches Teva's performance with the clerk and smiles appreciatively. In some ways, she wishes she could do that. She also keeps her eye on the cleric who followed them and sees Sir Thomas and Ilsidur approach him. Thinking that three would be too many, she decides to let them handle him. She decides she might be able to learn something from Uteva if she keeps watching and listening. She also keeps on the lookout for anyone else who might be trying to keep an eye on them (Spot 28).

Tara and Kevil continue to keep up their vigil on the warehouse and apartment area.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday September 25th, 2001 11:47:10 PM

Sir Thomas replies to Ilsidur's plan, "I don't see why we can't speak with this fellow. Neither Alyndar nor Chloe are to be found anywhere." Thomas follows his dwarven friend toward the red-haired cleric. he smiles and introduces himself just after Ilsidur does, "And I'm Sir Thomas Hurley." He then allows his compatriot to continue while he smiles a warm, inviting smile. He looks directly into the man's eyes while Ilsidur speaks with him. (detect Evil)

Fine brows drawn down in concern, the bard lowers her voice. "Really? Well then, we shall have to keep it very, very quiet, hey? Of course, that will be easier if I know specifically which topics to avoid." Teva fingers her blue champion tabbard, looking pointedly at the poor clerk. "Colours, for instance, might come up in any conversation. Is it brown and orange, that we're not to talk about?"

She claps a freckled hand over her lips, widening her eyes in mock horror. "Oh, dear me, I do tend to chatter! Of course, if certain forms should happen to be lying about --" she taps the countertop with a fingernail, "-- about here, and my gaze should happen to fall upon them, I suppose I'd be too distracted to do any talking, to anyone." Brows raised in question, she gives the clerk another saucy grin and waits expectantly.

Ilsidur
Wednesday September 26th, 2001 11:22:05 PM

Ilsidur waits for the response from the cleric, hoping that the young man will tell them something that will give them some hint about what is going on.

Thursday September 27th, 2001 10:23:02 AM

Ael slowly walks toward to door, taking careful note of whether it opens in or out. Should it open toward him, he will be on his guard against any sudden door-opening-ness.

In either case, he will open it very slightly, and peek through the crack.

DM Kent
Thursday September 27th, 2001 7:07:44 PM

Ael sees that the door opens inward and as he eases it open a little crack and pears inside, the door opens only a few inches before is lodges up against something. The little he can see, shows that the room is now a mess when the last time one of you saw the room it was clean and relatively orderly.

Sir Thomas, Sly and Ilsidur corner the red-haired man and as Ilsidur speaks the man looks him in the face. Now that you are up close you all recognize him as the young cleric that was with the Mercs. He smiles at you and says in a just slightly louder than normal voice. I have no interest in you and don't have any idea what you are talking about. Why are you accosting me?" as he speaks he starts making his way toward two nearby security people.

The clerk looks up at the mention of the messenger company's colors, and seems to get angry. "If you knows all this, why're you harrassing me? If there is nothing else, Have a nice day."

Altemia, while she doesn't see anyone paying specific attention to her and her companions she does notice that quite a few people are leaving the champion's hall rather quickly.

Sir Thomas
Thursday September 27th, 2001 9:21:12 PM

Sir Thomas picks up the clerics ploy and tries to save the group from being harrassed by the security guards under a false claim. He speaks loudly to the red-hair, "I'm sorry sir, you got the wrong impression. We thought you were with the Mudhound Mercenary group. We have gotten to know them fairly well in the last few days and wanted to ask them a few questions. We are sorry if we startled you. This is simply a matter of mistaken identity. We'll let you be on your way." Thomas is a little disturbed at how the mercenary and all of his evil friends seem to know all of the right times to use the beaurocracy and when to avoid it and how. To his friends he suggests, "lets get out of here as soon as we can." and then in a lower voice, "I wonder if Lok could keep an eye on this one for us."

Ael sits and watches the door and nothing appears to be happening since he opened it.

Sir Thomas, Sly and Ilsidur make their comments and watch as the redhead makes his way out of the building with a Lok trying to shadow him on the way.

The clerk is glaring at Uteva and Lui and finally gets his name tag on, which you can see shows his name as Jeremy.

Altemia and the others see nothing but the mass of exiting people, but the ones leaving seem to be doing so in a very rapid fashion and seem to be saying something about a murder.

Lui follows the clerk back in to the back room, and moments later you hear some raised voices and one solid slap. Lui wanders back to you all and looking a bit sheepish walks up to Uteva. " I may now have some information on your lost member.

Feeling a bit flustered by the red-head's presence, Thomas tunes back into the rest of their environment. Sir Thomas notices the flustered people leaving only after hearing someone speak of a murder. Dang his warrior's sense for not warning him about all of the odd commotion sooner. Being so depressed for so long has him out of touch with himself. He begins to watch the crowd and their surroundings trying to notice anything else that might be out of place. He hears Lui's comment and perks up to that conversation. "Good job Lui. Thanks for your help. You've been tremendous to this point. Let's hear what you've uncovered."

Ilsidur grabs hold of one of the people leaving in such a hurry, and asks, "Excuse me sir, what is going on? What is this about a murder? Why are you leaving in such a hurry?"

After finding out, Ilsidur makes his way over to hear what Lui has to say. "You say that Void is part owner of the insurance company that retrieved Bear's body. Well that figures. I just hope the rest of you will let me finish Bear off permanently next time, and stop worrying about some stupid insurance agency collecting bodies. Unless you continually want to fight him and his brother?"

After finding out all that Lui has to say, Ilsudur asks, "Can we challenge the messenger service and attack it? If we think that the service and the Mercs etc, are involved in slave trading, do we need to get permission from the city to deal with it? Do we tell the city? Will they do anything about it?"

"I like the idea of challenging the Mercs directly, but what do we hope to accomplish by that, besides working out our frustrations, and possibly ridding the Wold of a few undesirables. There doesn't seem to be much point in challenging the Swift Messengers; their employee turnover is so high, that we'd hardly be making a dent."

The bard grins at the Ilsidur. "Next time, let's arrange to fight Bear outside the city. I have no problem with killing him permanently dead.

Both Altemia and Ilsidur manage somehow to get one of the fleeing people to stop and answer their questions. Between the two of them the gleen that from out of nowhere, two black clothed and hooded figures popped up behind the Champion's desk and and killed the two female clerks. They then proceeded to cut out their tongues and remove both of their hands. Only moments later, they disappeared with their bloody treasures. As Altemia makes her way in to the area there are less and less people around and as she approaches the champion's desk the air is full of a metallic stench that she recognizes very well. Even just entering the room, Altemia can see the blood spatters on the walls and cielings.

Luke looks up at his master and whines. He cocks his head as if trying to figure something out and then steps around as if he is looking for something. (Ael is halfway across town)

At Sir Thomas' praise and question, Lui brightens and says, "I'm glad I've been of some help. As for your friend I understand that he is currently a guest of certain Sorcerer. Our Friend back there didn't exactly know where he was being held, but suggested that we might find out on the bridge at SMS' offices.

At Ilsidur's questions, Lui looks a bit perplexed and then rallies to the answers. "As the lady points out, attacking the SMS accomplishes nothing and it is very likely that nobody but the manager will be there right now. As for telling the city, it is a known that several city officials are tied to these people and you might do nothing more but warn them. If on the otherhand you manage to find the right person, the city might put up some sort of reward. As for the city doing something about these problems, well, they have been and they haven't been working to hard on it. Our friend also mentioned something about Void looking for some cards.... Though Im not sure what that meant or anything else about the cards.

Rejoining the others, the bard links arms with Ilsidur and starts moving out of the building. "Altemia's right here, Sly, and we don't know how to use the pentagram anyway. Let's get to the Bridge and check out these Swift Messenger people. Everybody stick together, and stay close to Ils. Lui, are you with us? We're not the safest people to know, right now."

Let's go back to Chloe's warehouse and regroup. We'll prepare ourselves for battle. We'll try to open that portal. If that gets us no where I think we should try the SMS offices. At least they will know we are getting closer to them. They may be forced to play a hand at us. We have options now. the least of which is sitting around like bumps on a log. If they have Alyndar, then he's probably not all that comfortable. Let's rescue him."

Frowning as the spells complete, Ael hears nothing from the room. He makes up his mind, and softly moves toward the door again. He will try to discover what the door is hitting. If he can open it without damaging whatever it is, he will do so -- taking care to stand behind the door, for fear of wildly thrown tomatoes, broccoli, grenades, kittens, and other possible threats.

Ilsidur
Tuesday October 2nd, 2001 8:51:18 PM

Ilsidur looks around the room at the blood and the two corpses. He shakes his head in disbelief. "Where in the name of Brod's Blue Beard is the city guard?!? I can't believe this room isn't swarming with guards and investigators! Either the city doesn't care about having clerks murdered in city hall, or the entire city government is so much a part of whatever conspiracy is going on, the entire bureaucracy and military is looking the other way. Any other city that I have ever been in would have had the room full of investigators and priests or wizards throwing divination spells left and right, and talking to the dead clerks to see what they knew! I can't wait to get out of a city that is either so callous, or so corrupt. I suggest we find Alyndar, and get the seven hells out of here!"

"Oh well, seeing that none of us have any useful spells, and the city doesn't seem to care, let's get going to the bridge, and see if we can find out where Void and Bear have taken Alyndar. And none of you had better stop me the next time I have either or both of those orcs' bodies in my hands!" He stomps out muttering under his breath about short-sighted, rule-following party members that insist on following insurance claim regulations.

After listening to Uteva's whispered question, Ilsidur whispers back, "Yes, I have them. They were another item on the list of things Lui was supposed to help us with."

As you all come back together in the main hall, and start out the doors, two groups of guards arrive from opposite side of the building and enter from both sides. Accompanying them are four persons in green and blue robes. As you all stand aside to let them in, you are still deciding whether to go back to the warehouse or to the SMS when you realize that Ael is off checking Chloe's murder scene, and Lok is off following the red-head. Lui looks at each of you as if trying to figure out what he is supposed to do now.

Ael steps up to the door and with a little muscle opens it far enough to see that the contents of a bureau has been piled on the floor and the bureau is blocking the door from opening up all the way. It is very obvious that the room has been extrmely well searched. (Ael roll a search roll DC 11)

Sir Thomas becomes very nervous when the guards arrive and he and the group are the only ones left in the building. As they walk farther away he shares his anxiety with his friends. "Whew. I want to tell you guys that I realized something as we were leaving city hall. We could have easily been set up by Void back there. With a spell he could have made it look like we killed those clerks. I'm glad there we a lot of witnesses and we got out of there without any question being raised. Lucky us. I think we should go grab Ael and head to the SMS. We need answers and Aly if we intend to leave Hook City soon. I don't really know what to do about Lok. Hopefully he will meet us at Chloe's shop. Ilsidur, lead the way to Ael and then the SMS. We're right behind you."

"OK, let's go. We will swing by and pick up Ael, and leave a message for Lok with Madame Orchid."

As they leave city hall, Ilsidur says to Lui, "We need you to help us negotiate the bridge. Last time we were there, we were totally out of our depth. We need you to help us find the SMS office, and also to provide some insight into the person behind the counter there: is he involved with the orcs, or just a no-nothing functionary. If we find out information that will lead us to Alyndar and the orcs, we will need you to help us get there, and advise as to what we can and can't do. For instance, if we feel that the SMS rep knows more than he is saying, we will want to get the information from him whatever way becomes necessary. Is this against the law? Is it more or less against the law than killing city clerks? When we do find the orcs, can we attack and kill them? Do we need to get an orc-killing permit first?" Once again, Ilsidur's frustration with the ridiculous city bureaucracy is showing through.

"Sir Thomas, we are going to need you to check for evil in anyone we talk to about this. From my perspective, this will be a key point in whether we believe them or not. Also, does anyone have access to a charm spell? It would be really helpful to have someone with information think that we were their friends."

Ilsidur leads the group across town to pick up Ael, swinging by Madame Orchid's and asking her to keep her eye open for Lok, and to ask him to stay at the warehouse if he shows up. We will tell Madame Orchid to let Lok know we will pass by the warehouse on the way from the SMS office to wherever we are heading next.

Once they have Ael and have had the message, Ilsidur lets Lui lead them to the SMS office on the bridge.

Ael is busy peering thru the room (still need to make a spot roll)

The group minus Lok heads by Madame Orchid's and finds her with this very pretty, although a bit skinny, young girl. She looks a bit familiar, as if you have seen her in a different situation before. As you look at the girl in a puzzled way, she looks up at you and squawks, " Hey, Ms. Orchid don say Is done a good job fer her and she ber gonna hire me on full like." As soon as she starts speaking you know it is Wringer.

Orchid listens to what you tell her and agrees to give Lok your message and thanks you greatly for bringing Wringer to her as she has the makings of a marketeer.

As you all get ready to go Trace walks up to Uteva and very plainly says, " I am going to wait here for Lok as I don't thik any of us should be wandering alone at this point.

Your next stop finds you walking back to the room where Chloe was murdered. the door is open about half the way there is no visible sign of Ael anywhere, and there are moving noises coming from within the room.

Sir Thomas

Thomas introduces himself to Wringer again in an attempt to flatter her and get a lively rise from her. This time his tone is a very friendly and courteous manner. "Good day young lady. I'm Sir Thomas. I don't believe I recognize you. What is your name?" He gives Madame Orchid a slight wink along with any group members who might be able to see, but he uses the eye that is covered from Winger's sight by his nose. "You are very pretty young lady. It doesn't surprise me that Madame Orchid would think you to be a fine marketeer." Thomas continues in this manner with Winger until they leave. Upon arriving where Ael should be he draws his sword. The sight of the door being slightly open and the toussled room just beyond makes him quite nervous. He lets Altemia go in. As he starts making his way quickly toward the back door he wispers to whoever is standing next to him, "let me know what happens up here. I'm going for the back."

Now, we are going to try to find a lost member of our group, named Alyndar. We are fairly certain she was captured by either the Mudhound Mercs, or by our orc friends Bear and Void. Would you know where we might be able to find either group? We really want to get them out of our and your hair."

After finding out what the young girl has to say, Ilsidur thanks Madame Orchid, and goes with the party to find Ael. The invisible Ael, is working inside the room when he spots something out of the corner of his eye, on the floor near the room's window, just as he is picking it up he hears quite a bit of whispering and shuffling around outside in the hallway. moments later he sees Altemia slide in through the door, followed momentarily by a very noisy Ilsidur.

Wringer beams at all the attention and frowns at all your flirtatious flattery, but she batts her eys at you all and does a barely passable curtsey.

Altemia scoots in the door fairly quietly and realizes that unless she is going to crawl there really isn't much to hide behind as everything has been tossed around and knocked over. As she starts lloking around the room, Ilsidur stumbles in through the door as his axe raps against the door as he sqeezes through. Taking a quick glance around the room they both see something slowly lifting off the floor near the room's window.

Thomas makes his way around back and looks over the garden area under the window. Out of the corner of his eye he sees something sticking out from under one of the bushes. (spot check of 12 ans search)

Ilsidur concentrates to maintain the 'detect magic' spell. [OOC: Kent, is there anything in the room, other than what the party is carrying, that is detecting as magic?]

Once he has finsihed scanning the room, and determining any magic present, he moves over beside Ael. "Is that one of the magical cards? What is it doing here? Lui, do you recognize these cards? Can you tell us anything about them? Do you know someone in the city who can?"

Sir Thomas

Thomas makes his way inside slowly. HE holds the card in his shield hand and maneuvers the close quaters of the apartment with care. When he finds his way into the room that his friends are occupying he stands up straight and holds the card up. "Look what I found out back you guys." Then seeing that Ael is holding a similar card he states, "Hmmm, I think this is telling us something. Do we still have that deck of cards?" He walks across the room and gives his card to Ael for examination. "I didn't see any signs of anyone or anything still hanging around out back. We need to talk to Void about all of this pretty quickly. I"m kind of tired of playing his cat-and-mouse game."

Other than the card and the PC items, Ilsidur finds nothing else of magic.

Ael looks at his card and notices that unlike the other cards this one has a picture of a place on it and not a person. When Thomas hands the other card to him the picture is of a certain headless orc, that you all know and love. (AEL roll a hear noise roll please DC 12)

The rest of you can also see that there are pictures on these cards.

As you make your way out of the building something strikes the spell casters as they remember their examination of the warehouse pentagram. Something about it and these cards seems somehow familiar.

Sir Thomas
Wednesday October 10th, 2001 10:35:04 AM

Sir Thomas scrunches his face in thought while looking at the card he just gave to Ael. "Ael, why would these cards remind me of the pentogram at the warehouse? Could they be the same type of magic? Scrying, teleportation, or some other form. Why would there be a card with Void's resemblance on it? And why isn't it with the deck of cards we found? You guys, I think we might find an answer or two at the warehouse by looking at the pentagram. We're right here, let's take a look and touch base with Trace. Maybe he's found Lok and their waiting for us there. Ael, do you think you could discern the command word to make the pentogram work? Do you think Alyndar figured it out by looking through Chloe's books? Is it possible that he used it inadvertently or deliberately for some reason? I have a lot of quesions that I'm growing increasingly anxious to find answers to." Thomas puts his sword away and goes to stand by the door hopeing to facilitate the group to leave with him. A light of thought and questioning emanates from Thomas' eyes as wisps of smoke begin to trickel from his ears.

She relaxes her expression into a teasing grin. "Okay, back to the warehouse, then, since we're so close." The bard again motions to Ael to hide the cards from sights. As you all head back to the warehouse, you can see that the new cards are identical to the ones you have. Almost as if they were all part of a set or maybe a matched set.

Lui looks up as if he had been lost in thought. Seen? No, but I have heard of such cards. There are several kinds of them. Some are as your friend says, merely communication devices. Others,... ::he shrugs::

Thomas is not that worried about Trace's disappearance. "Trace probably took his bird with him to go wonder around somewhere. I doubt he'd try to look for Lok. I wish we could all be together again though. With Void being on our butts all the time I don't particularly like the lack of communication we are working with. We should make a friendly pact to always tell someone where we're going in the future." Thomas goes over to the pentogram as he addresses his lack of concern about Trace nad desire for better communication in the future. He stands in the pentogram and bends and looks at it more closely. "I really don't know what I'm looking at or what I'm looking for. Ael? do you have any ideas? Maybe a word of activation." Thomas thinks a minute. "Void. . . . teleport . . . . evil . . . . destruction . . . . Bear. . . . " Thomas continues for a short while with other words he associates with Bear and Void. "Do we think there might be some clue in the logs and professional journals of Chloe's? She may have written such a word down."

As you all recover form the disorientation or the moment of unconciousness, several things become pretty evident as you look around the room.

The racks on the wall are full of SMS uniforms, though many of them are on the floor.

Many of those uniforms are far too small for adults to wear.

The crates, when you look in them are full of leg chains and manacles of all sizes but primarily really small ones.

Other than these things the room is empty, but yoiu can tell that these guys were not very good house keepers.

The single door is cracked open just a bit and allows Uteva to see what is very obviously a front office, and there is apparently someone home as you see the left side of the back of a head rising above the back of a chair. There is no sound or movement.

As you all make your way in to the office, the figure does not move and there is a soft keening coming from him. As you move around him you see he has a look of rapture on his face and he has no awareness of you all or anything else for that matter.

From outside the office the market and vendors are loud and busy with the days business. As you start perusing the office for clues there are several thundering explosions and the bridge and everything on it are shaken and rocked back and forth. The first explosions are soon followed by several more and soon the party is rushing to the street to see what is hgappening. As plumes of smoke reach skyward from six areas under the bridge around the city a final explosion rocks the bridge as a nearby temple implodes. As you steady yourselves, a feeling of serene calmness overwhelms you. Deep within each of you you hear a calm and resigned voice say.

“Have courage!”

Then blue electricity seems to reach out towards you. Passing through you and beyond, you suddenly feel strangely refreshed and rejuvenated. It is as if you were ten years younger. Strange. Then suddenly, something indistinct happens as the lightning disappears leaving you in complete darkness. Then it hits you like a wave.

Pain! Anguish! Cowardice! Anger!

Multiple emotions flash through you simultaneously. Then the Yrth shakes for but a moment, and looking up, you can see light flashing through the sky. A wave of indescribable fear rips through you all and you know in your heart of hearts that Domi is dead. You can't explain it... you just know.

[/c]MwuhahahahaHAHAHA!!!" A hidiously evil laugh echoes across the land and reverberates through your bodies, as the sky is bathed in arcs of mystical blue energy, and the moons in the sky suddenly become red, as though with blood. “COME ... JOIN ME, MY FRIENDS ... THERE IS NO GOD TO OPPOSE US THIS NIGHT. DOMI IS DEAD! WORSHIP THE CULT GODS!!!”[c]

(All followers of DOMI must make a will save. you need to roll a DC 11 without modifiers. Sir Thomas needs to make a save at DC 10 without modifiers as he is partially sworn to Domi.)

Monday October 15th, 2001 11:53:30 AM

(OOC:with a role of 18, Sly made it.)

Sly looks around and the room is a mess. Those uniforms (the brown and orange ones) that only children can ware and Sly take small legchains and manacles, just like the one they put on slaves?? Sound like the back room of slave traders. Sly follows Uteva in the other room and there in a big chair (what look like a human??) is acting like he's been drugged up on something?? Is this part of a plan ?? Are they going to come back here?.
A voice is coming out of nowhere or is it in his head Sly cannot tell which. "HAVE COURAGE" Those words gives him peace and hope for some reason.
Then the PAIN! the ANGUISH! OH the COWARD feeling is over powering! Then come the ANGER! DOMI IS DEAD! Them those horrible words 'Worship the Cult GODS???' Sly yells as loud as he can "NEVER - NEVER, as long as I keep Domi in my mind and Heart, HE will always be with me, alive and well." Sobs Sly while hugging the dog Luke. While every thing is crumbling around them, the moon (blood Red), the Temples are imploding, even the bridge is rocking like a straw in the wind. Sly does not know what to do next.

Ael starts at the first explosion, and carelessly dashes to the door as the second wave happens. As the moons turn red, he surveys the carnage, and his eyes turn cold and hard, and his lip curls with disgust.

Uteva  d20=19
Monday October 15th, 2001 2:55:21 PM

Teva stops on her way to the desk, standing stock-still as the impressions and words wash over her. "Domi?" she whimpers. "No! Oh, Sir Thomas, what has happened?" She turns to Sly and hugs the sobbing elf, sharing comfort and trying to keep her own tears from spilling over.

"Ael, can you tell if the Bridge is going to hold up?" the bard asks. She stays rooted to the spot, feeling overwhelmed.

Monday October 15th, 2001 5:50:50 PM

Altemia moves into the room with the others. Seeing the man there, in no shape to argue, she kneels down and begins to examine him to try and find a clue about his condition.

Terrible explosions knock her to her feet, but she stands quickly and rushes outside. A feeling of euphoria passes through her and then leaves, filling her with a mixture of emotions.

She turns to the others with a question in her eyes, "Now what do we do?"
