DM Jan Monday October 15th, 2001 7:05:23 PM
Everyone makes it out into the street okay, and starts the journey through the Gold Level, and back to Yorick. Syr's soreness starts to dissipate as the group heads long the street, and perhaps everyone is feeling pretty good, after all - they have managed to complete the first part of their quest. Plink escapes with the flute. The only thing that appears slightly amiss - Miranna's weasel, which seems fretful and uneasy for no apparent reason....
Then - from above comes a dull heavy thud. Something has happened on the upper level, but there's no indication of what it might be. Whatever it is, it's big enough to make the street everyone is standing on vibrate for a little while before all goes quiet.
Right on the heels of that strange occurance, is a flash of red light - visible out of the side of the Gold Level. Like a falling comet, a distant red ball of fire shoots downward out of the heavens. This is followed by another, and another. It's quite a display - beautiful, spectacular, awe inspiring enough to hold the party's gaze for a long moment.
But - the spell is broken. Screams are heard, and from a nearby ramp - people begin streaming down from the Open Air Level in a panic. But why?? The weasel starts to go frantic and Miranna is in danger of losing it.
Off to the left hand side of the street, an agonising groan is heard - it's coming from a small Shrine of Domi, which suddenly shrieks as though its alive before imploding before everyone's eyes and disappearing into the ground with a horrible slurping sound.
The street is crowded now, people are pushing past and yelling incoherantly. After a minute or two, things calm down a little as the street population thins out a little. A tiny little boy runs toward the group. His shirt has a tear in it, and his blue eyes looked glazed. "Have courage!" he says. Although the voice comes from the boy, it appears to have been spoken by someone else also. The voice is so emotive that it brings a tear to the eye.
A moment later, blue electricity seems to reach out toward the group from the destroyed shrine. Passing through and beyond, everyone suddenly feels strangely refreshed and rejuvenated. Strange. Then something indistinct happens as the lightning disappears leaving everyone complete darkness. Then it hits like a wave -
Pain! Anguish! Cowardice! Anger!
Multiple emotions flash through simultaneously. Then the Yrth shakes for but a moment, and looking up, everyone can see light flashing through the sky. A wave of indescribable fear rips through the group....
It is unspoken, but everyone, deep in their hearts, seems to know... Domi, the God of Courage - is dead.
The little boy starts to run away, but he doesn't get very far. out of the ruins of the Domi Shrine comes a strange scent - like a warm, tropical forest. Most unlike the scents and smells usually found in the Floating City. This is closely followed by four winged shapes. It's difficult to see in the gloom, but they appear to have a wingspan of about 2 feet. They have a dark, red glint to thier hides, and a long proboscis. None of the party have ever seen the like before, unless they have ventured out of the City at some time in their lives.
They float and converge above the boy, seemingly on the brink of attack. With all thats going on, it seems that the "thou shalt not kill" order from the Diamond Lords has just gone right out of the window.
The boy looks up and screams...
Tiree d20+4=19 d6=5 Monday October 15th, 2001 7:31:48 PM
Tiree searches in her dress for one of her daggers. Pulling it out she throws it at one of the hovering beasts (att 19, dmg 5).
"Drew, I'm really glad you're armed!"
Drew Monday October 15th, 2001 7:35:31 PM
Drew without thinking, tears running down his face whips his axe off of his back and sprints to the boy. Standing over him he hold his attacks, waiting protectively over the little boy, for the things to attack. Looking deep within himself for the answer to his question he realizes that the place in his heart is not empty and even while he weeps for the death of one god he rejoices too. He is heard to sigh and say "Domi was not the God I seek." He wipes the tears away and prepares to attack. (Tiggered action. Should the beasts come for the boy or Drew, he will attack.)
Jezebella (+/- 1 expertise) Monday October 15th, 2001 9:03:16 PM
Jezebella is stunned for a moment by the wash of emotions... her mind... her very soul is shaken to the core. She is ripped from her daze by the threat posed to the boy. She bends, in one smooth motion, and pulls a dagger from each boot, holding them in a defensive position over the child.
Miranna and Weasel d20+8=13 d20+3=12 Tuesday October 16th, 2001 1:29:07 AM
Miranna is stroking her frantic weasel, murmuring soothingly to it, sending it impressions of calm and strength, when chaos and panic erupts all around. Stunned, she watches events unfold as her weasel floods the corner of her mind that is linked to it with images of darkness, fear and unbearable loss... and then the certainty hits her.
Domi, the God of Courage, is dead!
Tears fill the elf's emerald eyes, but she has no time to reflect on how she knew, nor on the thousand and one questions that surround a God's death. Four winged shapes have emerged from the ruins of what was Domi's Shrine. Even as she tries to recall if she has read anything about these creatures (Knowledge Arcana check 13, or Int check 12, whichever applies), she knows she must stop them from attacking the little boy.
Miranna bends and puts her weasel down gently, then her slender hands trace the outline of 4 spheres in the air while she utters in Draconic, "Light up and dance!" (Dancing Lights, Will save vs DC 15 to disbelieve if interacted with. Lights must stay within 10 ft of each other but can move up to 100ft per round. Spell lasts 1 minute, no concentration needed.)
Four glowing spheres of light materialize in the air above the boy, one before the eyes of each creature. The lights dance in and out, left and right, up and down in a haphazard pattern, to irritate and madden the creatures.
The weasel, still quivering with fear and confusion, runs under her mistress's skirt to hide.
Polaris Tuesday October 16th, 2001 9:53:55 AM
Emotions cover the halflings face, tears fill her eyes, sweat beads drip of her forehead. Polaris only lets the emotion get to her for a moment though, then she realizes that she has to equip herself. She looks for a moment, forgetting the fact that she was in costume. Polaris remembers that she didn't bring anything with her, she forgot to prepare for anything. She searches the ground quickly and finds a well-rounded and dense rock. She examines it quickly, then positions her self for the attack.
Syr d20+4=17 d20+4=22 d3+4=5 d3+4=5 Tuesday October 16th, 2001 11:06:11 AM
Syr sees the boy and wonders for a moment if he is from the orphanage.
His hand goes toward his back as he reaches for his axe before realizing that he left it with Yorick. With a growl, he surrenders to the anger that washed over him and launches himself at the nearest shape, intent on pummeling it into the floor. (Attack Rolls with fists of 17, and 22 with damage of 5 for each, IF they hit)
DM Jan d20=19 d3=2 d20=10 d20=5 Tuesday October 16th, 2001 7:56:27 PM
In the deep gloom of chaos, the group runs to the boys rescue.
Tiree's dagger arrives first embedding itself into one of the winged creatures (#1). It lets out a shriek and turns.
Drew, Jezebella and Polaris become an umbrella of protection for the boy as the creatures hover.
Try as she might, Miranna can't remember having seen these things before. Maybe the dark is not giving her enough detail. her dancing lights whirl around everyone, and one of the winged critters seems most enamoured. (#2)
In it's daze, it receives a hefty punch from Syr, knocking it back 20 feet.
The little boy continues to howl, frightened out of his wits.
Creature 1 hurtles toward Tiree, trying to land on her. It succeeds, jabbing its proboscis into her for 2 DAM, and starts to suck out her blood, dropping her CON by 1 point
Creature 2 is still 20 feet away.
Creatures 3 and 4 however, attempt to latch themselves on the largest target, which is Drew. His hide seems somewhat tough however, and they rise 20 feet in the air, looking down, waiting for another chance.
Plink 2d4(4+2)=6 Tuesday October 16th, 2001 8:11:23 PM
Plink runs forward, drawing his magical rapier in the process, and also tries to provide his body as a shield for the small child. His voice stuttering, the tears flowing freely down his face, he begins to sing what seems to be a lullaby, and points up towards the two flying creatures up in the air, attempting to remove them from the fight. (Casting Sleep, affecting 6hd of creatures, the ones with fewest hd first, Will saving throw of DC 14)
Drew d20+7=19 d12+5=17 Tuesday October 16th, 2001 8:22:10 PM
Having held his attack for when the creatures swooped (triggered action) Drew lashes out at of them (hitting AC 19 for 17 points of damage.) The battle rage takes him and he screams out. "Come for more, I am ready, see what Domi taught me!!!!" He prepares his attack again should they swoop down upon him, or the boy. (Triggered action, holding attack until one is within range.
Tiree d20-3=17 d20-3=0 d3=2 Tuesday October 16th, 2001 9:25:38 PM
(Unarmed attack at -4 to do real damage)
Tiree screams as the winged beast lights on her and begins to feed from her. Enraged, she pulls back her fist and begins to hit it about the head (att 17 [threat, but not crit], dmg 2).
"Some one get this thing off me!"
Miranna (Dancing Lights Rnd 2/10) d6=4 Tuesday October 16th, 2001 11:16:00 PM
Seeing Tiree's danger, Miranna sends the 4 lights to circle the head of the creature attacking her, making them dance in the same haphazard pattern. (Will save vs DC 15 to disbelieve if interacted with.) If the lights capture the creature's attention, she will attempt to lure it away from Tiree towards its partner 20 ft off.
Then she slips a hand through the slit in her dress and out again, and flings a handful of colored sand into the air. "Coriius inri manesta!" A vivid cone of intertwined, clashing colors springs from her hand and extends to the creatures in the air, well above the heads of her family.
(Color Spray, 30 ft cone, affects nearest 4 creatures in cone, Will save vs DC 16 to negate. Effects: if 5HD and more, stunned for 1 rnd; if 3-4HD, blinded for 1d4 rnds then stunned; if 1-2HD, unconscious for 2d4 rnds, then blinded for 1d4 rnds, then stunned. Miranna will try to target an area with as many creatures as she can without including her family in the area of effect.)

(if Miranna's spell has any effect at all) The gypsy girl smiles grimly as Miranna's spell washes over the winged fiends. She steps neatly forward to a fallen foe and slits its spindly throat. (coup de grace, or at least a sneak attack, if it cannot apply its dex bonus... possible critical hit against AC 9... damage : 4 (+2 crit, +6 sneak) up to 12)
(if Miranna's spell is ineffective) Jezebella murmers a curse as the spell washes over the beasts ineffectually... she holds her daggers defensively over the child, prepareing to slice any fiend that dares come within range. (missing both attacks)
Syr d20+4=15 d20+4=24 d20+4=9 d3+4=5 d3+4=6 d3+4=7 Wednesday October 17th, 2001 12:58:19 PM
Syr charges the imp, intent on knocking it out. "Leave the boy alone!"
(OOC: I THINK I have the critical right. It's not a critical due to the 9 roll, correct?, Attack of 15 and natural 20 (damage of 5 and 6 respectively with an additional 7 if it WAS a critical.)
DM Jan d20+1=6 d20+6=13 d20+6=22 d20=20 d20=8 d3=2 Wednesday October 17th, 2001 7:04:27 PM
Some people, formally intent on running around in a panic, stop and stare as the spells go into effect - the light dancing around the group, and turning the air above them in a myriad of colours.
They don't stay long though, as the light shows more detail of the winged creatures hovering near. "Stirges!!" someone shouts, and the crowd disappears again, screaming their heads off.
Tiree manages to bash the Stirge that's latched onto her on the nose. She looks a strange sight, standing there with a winged beast perched upon her, and surrounded by dancing lights. Spellbound by the lights - the creature does not attack this round (Stirge #1).
The two Stirges in the air, hovering way above Drew are suddenly highlighted by Miranna's colour spray spell, one of which seems to be spinning erratically after being clouted by Drew. The spell stuns it, and it comes falling to the ground with a thunk! Jezebella manages to finish it off with her dagger ( #3) Stirge #2 however is made of stronger stuff and dives down toward Drew once more, (Crit hit didn't survive) latching on and digging in for 2 DAM, its proboscis digging into his flesh and sucking out 1 CON's worth of blood.
The fourth recovers and flies toward Syr, who hits it again (not very clever is it?)Stirge #4 get's knocked senseless by Syr and cannot attack this round.
Beneath the group - the small boy has curled up into a tight little ball.
Tiree d20-3=15 d3=2 Wednesday October 17th, 2001 8:54:34 PM
Tiree is glad that Miranna's little glowing balls distract the stirge from sucking more from her. She once again pulls her fist back and punches the mosquito-like thing in the head (att 15, dmg 2).
Quickly looking around, she sees that one has attached itself to Drew and that Syr seems to have knocked one out.
"Jez, see if you can kill the one that Syr knocked out, quick!"
Drew d20+7=25 d12+5=14 d20+7=18 d12+5=9 Wednesday October 17th, 2001 10:13:53 PM
Drew strikes at the flying thing #2 again before it can attack and again hits it soundly on its way in cracking it soundly (att 25, 14 dam). Then it stabs into him and he dosent even wince. Looking down at the thing stuck to his body he steps slightly away from the boy so he doenst get hit and brings his axe down on the thing. (att 18, dam 9) He then howls in rage and in anger, as he strikes his axe across the ground sending sparks everywhere and making his axe ring. The sound of battle to lift spirits and unite his comrades and place fear in his enemys. "Enough!! It is time for these beasts to meet steel!!!"
Miranna (Dancing Lights Rnd 3/10) Wednesday October 17th, 2001 10:30:37 PM
Miranna gasps on seeing the stirge's proboscis dig into Drew. If Stirge #1 is within 10 ft of Stirge #2, she sends 2 of the lights to dance around its head (Will Save DC 15 to disbelieve). If not, she bites her lips and decides that Tiree needs the help of the lights more. (In the unlikely event that Tiree kills her stirge, Miranna will naturally send all 4 lights to rescue Drew.)
IF none of the lights can be sent to help Drew, Miranna will cast one more spell. She takes out a bit of fleece from her pouch and traces the outline of a curved, double-edged blade in the air, intoning "Imari nulii manesta!" The glowing blade will spin and close on Stirge #2, but will not connect. It will spin away if the stirge tries to parry or hit it, but return for more once the stirge turns its attention back to Drew.
(Silent Image, Will save DC 16 to disbelieve, lasts as long as Miranna concentrates.)
Jezebella d20+1=4 Thursday October 18th, 2001 8:04:03 AM
The gypsy girl sends a curt nod Tiree's way, and moves to finish off the 'stirge' that Syr dazed. (coup de grace? if not, missed...)
Polaris d20+5=10 d2=2 Thursday October 18th, 2001 10:20:50 AM
Polaris backs up a litte, aims her rock towards Stirge #4. Chunking with all her might, she releases the rock. (att 10, dam 2)
Syr (1 point of damage) d20+4=7 d20+4=13 Thursday October 18th, 2001 1:13:07 PM
Syr watches with envy as the sparks fly when Drew strikes the ground with his axe. "This is the last time I EVER go weaponless."
The lithe elf moves towards Tiree and attempts to knock the creature from her shoulder. Unfotunately, he grabs only air as she moves around trying to dislodge it.
Jezebella Thursday October 18th, 2001 1:41:27 PM
Jez curses her own stupidity when Syr mumbles his complaint about being weaponless... and drops one of hers between herself and him.
"More daggers coming, friends!"
(Jan, I dont assume dropping a dagger is an action, is it?)
DM Jan d20+1=2 Thursday October 18th, 2001 7:28:16 PM
The frenzied streets are beginning to quieten as the battle with the Stirges continues. In the distance, the occasional smashing of glass can be heard, and more than a few howls of pain.
Tiree manages to bonk 'her' Stirge on the snout, which is still bedazzled by the lights and just sits there watching them.
The lights make it difficult to for Syr to make out light and shadow.
The Stirge on Drew realises it makes a rather big mistake, and while watching Miranna's spell - it is pulverised by the rather angry barbarian. It's dead.
The stunned Stirge on the ground is hit soundly by Polaris's rock before being finished off by Jezebella.
The little boy yells in fright, as Drew's anger wells over.
One of Jezebella's knives falls to the ground.
And the night grows colder.... and the days get older.....
Plink d20+7=16 d20+7=19 d20+7=16 Thursday October 18th, 2001 8:45:37 PM
Plink shudders as his sleep spell seems to spread uselessly onto the stirges. No matter, he thinks, for his companions are making small work of the others. He needs to do something he's good at, right now, something helpful. As such, he begins singing, mightily, at the top of his lungs, trying to let his voice ring out to anyone who can hear it. He sings a song of courage, of Domi, and flows one song into another, singing any songs he can remember as such. He uses his words to hopefully bolster the courage of anyone who can hear it, letting Domi's memory live on. (Should give everyone +1Attack/Damage rolls and skill checks, for as long as he keeps singing) He continues singing, not intending to stop any time soon. (Perform check 16, and ignore the last 2 die rolls. Mechanical error on my part.)
Miranna (Dancing Lights Rnd 4/10) Thursday October 18th, 2001 9:50:13 PM
Miranna's eyes widen on seeing Drew pulverize the Stirge and then strike the ground with a howl of anger. She has not seen him in this battle rage before, not even when he was trying to kill them, and the sight is frightening. She had thought of him as the poor orphan boy with nothing, but now... She gives an involuntary shudder, thanking the semi-darkness for concealing Drew's face from her.
The glowing blade spinning in the air winks out of existence, while the four lights continue to dance around the Stirge perched on Tiree. Realizing she has nothing more to contribute to the fight, Miranna runs to the terrified little boy and pulls him away from the last remaining Stirge. She hugs him close while saying softly in his ear, "It is alright, little boy. The monsters are dead. It is over."
Tiree d20-3=15 d3=3 Friday October 19th, 2001 2:32:59 AM
"This thing is starting to annoy me!"
Tiree's anger builds itself to the boiling point once again and it moves through her arm (att 15, dmg 3) as she strikes at the stirge one more time.
"I want my dagger back you overgrown mosquito!"
Jezebella d20+1=20 d20+1=8 d4+1=2 d4+1=4 Friday October 19th, 2001 8:38:26 AM
Jez watches the last stirge, timing a slash... she slowly pulls another dagger from the sash at her waist, and tosses it to the ground near Tiree. She takes a slash at the winged thing as it swoops near, hitting well. (threat, critting on an AC 8 ... whopping 2 points damage, or 6 if crit)
Polaris Saturday October 20th, 2001 10:26:48 PM
Polaris grabs another rock, but only waits to see if the attempts of her teammates are sucessful before she tosses another one in the air.
Syr d20+6=26 d20+6=14 d4+4=7 d4+4=7 Sunday October 21st, 2001 9:44:08 AM
Upon seeing the dagger drop, Syr bends down and picks it up with a grin. Then he turns and slashes at the Stirge on Tiree's arm, hitting with a crit (damage 7 and another 7 if it was a critical).
Dm Jan Sunday October 21st, 2001 7:40:32 PM
As Plink instills an air of courage with his rousing song, Miranna tries to comfort the little boy, as Syr, Jezebella and Tiree slice the remaining Stirge to pieces, leaving Drew and Polaris nothing left to pulverise.
However, there is still menace in the air. Beyond Plink's rousing lilt, are still the sounds of screams and smashing glass. It's still very dark and murky, but everyone gets the feeling that a nasty riot is happening just a street away.
Suddenly - out of the gloom, a narrow, cloaked, solitary figure can be seen, hurrying toward the party.
Jezebella - Maw (+/- 1 expertise) Monday October 22nd, 2001 8:05:28 AM
Jez pulls her last dagger from her belt, offering it hilt-first to Polaris. She stands ready for more battle as the figure rushes toward them.. she whispers urgently to Syr. "Call challenge to him! Friend or foe or some nonsence!"
Tiree True d20+3=7 Monday October 22nd, 2001 9:15:20 AM
Tiree, glad to have the stirge finally removed from her, reaches down and removes her dagger from its corpse.
"Jez, I got my knife back. Here's yours if you need it."
She makes to motion to hand it back to her when she catches sight of the hooded figure. She looks closely to see if there are any recongnizable features about him (Spot 7).
Jezebella (+/- 1 expertise) Monday October 22nd, 2001 9:30:40 AM
(not in the maw .. IE keeps being 'helpful' and sticking that in for me. hehe)
Jez murmers in responce to Tiree's offer, still watching the approaching figure... "Give it to Miranna... I'll get them back once we get home."
Miranna (Dancing Lights 5/10) Monday October 22nd, 2001 12:09:38 PM
Miranna ascertains that the boy is unhurt, then asks him gently, "Where is your mother, little one? Can you get home safe-" She breaks off when she hears the sounds of the riot seemingly just a street away. Looking around worriedly, her keen vision makes out the solitary figure hurrying towards them.
Almost without thinking, she sends the dancing lights towards the figure, while pulling the boy behind her. She calls her Weasel to her side as an afterthought.
[OOC: Jan, I'm assuming we're still on 6-second rounds. If the timing of the posts has changed, please let me know when the lights expire.]
Syr (1 point of damage) d20+5=21 Monday October 22nd, 2001 1:04:18 PM
Syr rests for a moment with his hands on his hips. As he is taking in gulps of air, he hears Jezebella whispering in his ear.
Straightening up and pointing the dagger at the approaching figure he shouts, "HALT and identify yourself?" (spot Check 21)
Polaris Monday October 22nd, 2001 11:11:11 PM
Polaris drops the rock and gladly takes the dagger from Jezabella. She is about to get steady and ready for action for it until she realizes something. She turns to Jez, smiles, and asks politely "You don't mind if I throw this, do you? Because if you do, I should go back to my rock!"
Plink (Still Singing) Tuesday October 23rd, 2001 8:31:52 AM
Plink still lets the joyous words of Domi flow from his lips (providing all allies with +1 on all attack rolls and skill checks). He ponders what the newly approaching figure wants, but his knuckles turn white as his grip tightens upon his rapier in anticipation and dread at the same time. He has courage, nonetheless.
Drew Tuesday October 23rd, 2001 2:43:52 PM
Drew looks about. "We need to get back to Yoricks so the rest of you can suit up. I hav the fealing that we are not finished yet." when he sees the shadow his hackles stand up as he steps into the figures path. He will not let the stranger get near his family until he knows who he is.
DM Jan Tuesday October 23rd, 2001 7:45:05 PM
As the figure steps closer, Syr and Drew can see that it is a female human. Her face is a picture of anger and fear. She stops and demands -
"What have you done to my little boy? What have you done?"
The dancing lights hover above, but gradually start to wink out. Across the street, a gang of assorted creatures spill from a side street and start smashing windows with clubs. They don't appear to be an immediate threat to the party. Looting seems to be the in thing at present.
The little boy screams - "Mom!!!!!!!!!"
Jezebella (+/- 1 expertise) Tuesday October 23rd, 2001 10:40:26 PM
Jezebella murmers to the boy. "is this your mother, little one?" She keeps her dagger at ready.. if he says so, and her friends do not object, they let the boy go to her.
She answers Polaris "use it however you see fit, I just don't want anyone defenceless... now let's go before that mob comes this way.. ... oh gods, Mother.. should we go back to her? See if everything is OK there?"
Tiree True Wednesday October 24th, 2001 3:12:30 AM
Tiree moves forward and faces the woman.
"We have done nothing but protect him."
She points to the remains of the stirges that litter the street.
"Those things attacked him. I am glad that you are here for him. Now, my family and I have to go and check on our mother."
Tiree makes sure that the boy is alright and then moves to leave toward Yorick's place before heading to the orphanage.
Miranna and Weasel Wednesday October 24th, 2001 3:34:16 AM
At the boy's cry, Miranna lets go of his hand so he can run to his mother. She watches the happy reunion with a wistful expression.
Then she scoops her Weasel into her arms and turns to the others. "Yes, let us hurry away, before the mob notices us and decides to rob a few wealthy nobles."
Commanding her Weasel to climb up to her shoulder, Miranna hitches up her skirt and hastens after Tiree.
Drew Wednesday October 24th, 2001 10:04:00 AM
Drew not knowing the woman keeps a close eye on her as she enters the protective circle of his family. Drew begins to become very disturbed by all the looting. Gripping and ungripping his axe. The battle furry still flashing in his eyes.
Polaris Wednesday October 24th, 2001 9:41:24 PM
Polaris watches as the little boy and his mother leave. Not letting her guard down, she stays in battle mode in cast it should happen again. She quickly sprints to catch up with the group.
DM Jan Wednesday October 24th, 2001 10:33:44 PM
The boy and his mother re-unite, and hug one another tightly. Then the woman shouts - "Wait! Not that way. It isnt safe. Not yet. Come with me. I know somewhere to hide until things have quietened down a little, and the least I can do is reward you." She beckons to the party to follow her.
As if on cue - a horde of crazy people erupt onto the street, making a return to Yorrick somewhat dubious at this present moment.
Tiree d20+3=15 Thursday October 25th, 2001 1:33:57 AM
Looking at the horde of people blocking the way, Tiree looks back at her family, shrugs, and begins to follow the woman. She does her best to keep an eye out for anything or anyone "interesting" (spot 15).
Syr (1 point of damage) Thursday October 25th, 2001 4:33:56 AM
Syr stays near the rear of the group as they move to follow the woman.
Miranna and Weasel Thursday October 25th, 2001 4:55:43 AM
Miranna follows after Tiree, with her Weasel on her shoulder.
Jezebella (+/- 1 expertise) d20+3=16 d20+2=17 Thursday October 25th, 2001 8:13:14 AM
Jez keeps her dagger out, in case of sudden attack. She watches out for danger (spot 16) and attempts to remember the route the woman takes them. (int 17)
Drew Thursday October 25th, 2001 9:48:07 AM
Drew takes the rear guard, making sure that his family gets moving before the mob gets anywhere near them.
Plink Thursday October 25th, 2001 9:01:02 PM
Plink, for whatever reason, be it a higher power or not, can't bring himself to stop his singing. He let's the words quiet, however, and begins to follow the way the mother indicated, hoping she leads them to some form of safety.
DM Jan Thursday October 25th, 2001 11:12:50 PM
The woman moves, dragging the little boy behind her - quickly down a narrow alley and out onto another street. Ahead is a down ramp that leads to the Merchant level.
People are running around, but there's no mob scene here for the moment. She leads the party down the ramp, and toward a narrow door about twenty yards away on the left, ushering everyone inside.
This is a small room, quite cramped with everyone squashed inside. "Oh, thank you, thank you," says the woman. "My name is Isla, and my son here is Iain. I was on my way back from the temple when he just ran off. Not surprising with all the panic, I expect." She sighs. "Please - take some of these. I was taking them to a local healing house - but it's gone - flattened by - well I'm not really sure. You might as well have them. Then you can help others."
Isla seems a little highly strung and is babbling, no doubt frightened out of her wits because of whats going on.
As she rummages in a bag, young Iain appears to have settled down, and seems quite placid.
"The Dark Ones are coming....." he says, quietly - almost a whisper, and not addressing anyone in particular. "We're not safe. None of us. Not even the Gods."
His mother smiles apologetically. In her hands are a bundle of small, squat vials containing blue liquid. "I'm sorry about my little boy. Pay no mind. He see's things sometimes, but he's alright, really he is."
She hands out the vials, three for each member of the group. "They're blessed by Alemi, and should make you right as rain." ((Cure Light Wounds 1d8 +1 HPs recovered))
"You're welcome to stay till it's quiet, but myself and Iain are going to try and get a boat as soon as we can. Do you all live nearby?"
Tiree Thursday October 25th, 2001 11:23:33 PM
Tiree takes the bottles gratefully and puts them into her belt pouch.
"Thank you very much Isla. These are greatly appreciated. Don't worry about us. We don't live too far from here. We should be able to make it back alright."
The boy's comment worries in Tiree's head and she can't stop herself from kneeling in front of him and asking, "What Dark One's Iain? Why aren't we safe?"
Miranna Friday October 26th, 2001 2:42:12 AM
Miranna smiles at the woman as she takes the vials. "I thank you, Isla. These will come in handy if we have to fight any more stirges." The mention of stirges reminds her of how she had failed to recognize the creatures. The elf makes a mental note to read more about beasts and monsters in future. The encounter has taught her that magical knowledge alone is not enough.
For the present, she watches and listens quietly as Tiree questions the boy.
Jezebella Friday October 26th, 2001 9:45:34 AM
The gypsy girl takes the potions with a small murmer of thanks, and slips them into her belt pouch. She watches the boy and Tiree keenly, her lips pursed in thought.
Polaris Sunday October 28th, 2001 11:47:07 AM
Polaris kindly takes the potion and smiles widely. "Thanks you so much." She places the potions in her purse and stands silently to listen.
Drew Monday October 29th, 2001 2:08:54 PM
Drew kneels before the child and asks permission of the childs mother to touch the boy. With permission Drew gently takes the boys face in his hands. "Do the gods speak to you boy? They speak to me too. They have sent me searching for one of their number, which one sends for you?"
