The Day of Darkness

Where's the Sun? (DM JK)
Monday October 29th, 2001 7:46:57 AM

Qualde managed to seal the gate just before the raging mob reached it. They pounded it and screamed for several minutes before they finally moved away. Whatever sinister purpose they had, you've managed to thwart it.
(everyone gets 1100xp for the last scene)

You have a few moments to rest and cast spells on everyone before moving on to the Golden Arena. Just say what was cast and on whom and consider it done.

After resting a few minutes, Nonam points out that he believes it should be dawn, and Jus concurs. However, it is still as dark as it was at midnight. Perhaps you haven't been out quite as long as the mages believe. (will check DC10 or you are shaken)
Nevertheless, you are still beginning to get extraordinally tired. You haven't slept in at least 24 hours. (Fort checks, DC15 or suffer from fatigue [-2 to Str and Dex].

Nevertheless, there is no rest for the weary. You are just about to head out toward the arena when another mob comes up the path. This one seems to want to get out into the city. They seem to be moving away from the arena. Many of them carry torches, and they are clearly frightened. On seeing that the Three have closed the gate, the mob comes to a halt. Their leader a grey-haired, bearded man in long brown robes and wearing a ruby on a chain about his neck raises up his torch and address the group. His voice is deep and strong and touched with a bit of anger, "Whatever evil deeds your false gods plan in this place will be thwarted. We will have our exit."

Gareth (Stoneskin, Bull's Strength&Greater Magic weapon [Qualde, did you cast these for Gareth or someone else])  d20+3=14 d20+9=18 d20+14=22
Monday October 29th, 2001 11:19:17 AM

The warrior feels concern for their situation but keeps his wits about him (Will DC 14). He also fights off the fatigue and does not succumb to it - it wouldn't do after all, for the leader of the Three to look tired (Fort DC18).

As the mob approaches and the old man speaks he say "There is yet another mob who worship these cult gods and they were killing everyone who got in their path. They are trying to get to where you are leaving. If we unblock the gate the mob will get in here and will probably begin killing you too!".

The warrior stands as an imposiong figure, coming to his full height. With an intimidating scowl and an aura of righteousness about him that is difficult to ignore he bellows to the crowd "WE ARE THE THREE AND WE STAND FOR THE TRUE GODS OF THE WOLD! WE WILL RESIST THESE EVIL INTERLOPERS TO THE END! (CHA/Intimidate DC22) We ask you for information. Who are you running from? We will engage them on your behalf to allow your escape."

Nonam  d20+6=15 d20+8=10
Monday October 29th, 2001 5:13:12 PM

Nonam doesn't seem overly concerned about the sun not coming up yet. He mutters to himself about it, "Probably just lost track of time."

He does look like he's about to fall over from exhaustion though. He yawns horribly and pulls a potion of rest out of one of his deep robe pockets. He drinks it down and immediately looks refreshed again.

As the new mob arrives, Nonam listens closely to make sure that Gareth doesn't say anything stupid. He frowns a bit at the end and mutters to Jus, "Can that musclebound lunkhead ever talk to anyone without demanding something?"

Jus  d20+8=21 d20+11=14
Monday October 29th, 2001 8:00:10 PM

Jus contemplates the darkness, but it doesn't bother him too much since he is used to magical manipulations (made dc by 6). However, his thoughts remind him of how long he's been without rest, while his body screams in testament (failed dc by 1).

Jus busies himself casting spells while the mob approaches and Gareth speaks. Keen Weapon on mine and 15 of Cantos’ arrows, Mage Armor, Shield, Endurance, Cat’s Grace, Bull’s Strength, Stoneskin

Cantos looks weary but manages to shake off the feeling and look at the crowd. Figueing that Gareth has become the speaker for the Three again he slips to the back of the crowd and begins to cast a few spells on himself. Mage Armor, Bull Str., See invis. When finished He begins to sing a song in tribute to Domi starting off slowly then rising so his voice and the music from his harp can be heard through out the square. As he finishes he says loudly." Have COURAGE..We are the Three and we stand together against those that have done this."When he is finishe he looks around "thanks for enchanting my blade."

After getting somewhat use to the surface dwellers and their daylight. Addinein's skin crawls with the heeber jeebers, with the lack of sunlight. (failed will (8)). Though with no apparent effort, Addenein does not feel the affects of the long day.

Spending time casting spells, Addinein casts Cat's grace(+2) and Endurance (+4) on himself. Then he casts Endurance on Gareth (+2 to con). Cat's Grace on Cantos (+5 dex), and Endurance on Qualde (+3 Endurance).

Not wanting to Interupt what Gareth has started, Addinein just watches the proceedings.

Preferring the darkness, herself, Qualde acknowledges the sun's absence and moves on (Will=31), too driven to let lack of sleep slow her down at this point (Fort=26). Eyes on the approaching crowd, she shakes her head at Addinein and signs, Later.

She busies herself casting spells: Greater Magic Weapon on Gareth's short sword (+3); Stoneskin on herself; Magic Vestment on her own armor, as well as Gareth's, Addinein's, and Tericus' (+3) [sorry, lost track of whose armors were fried in Myth]; Bull's Strength on herself (+4) and Gareth (+5); and Endurance on Tericus (+2).

Cantos: GMW(rapier+4), keen (15 arrows),Mage Armor, Bull Str. (str+4), See invis., cat's grace(dex+5)

Jus: FATIGUED, keen (arrows), Mage Armor, Shield, Endurance, Cat’s Grace, Bull’s Strength, Stoneskin [need rolls for potency of enhancement spells]

Nonam: stoneskin (10/+5, 120pts), cat's grace(+4), bull's strength(+2)

Gareth: GMW (shortsword+3), stoneskin (10/+5, 120pts), endurance (con+2), bull's str (+5)

[Magic vestment will not increase the bonus on Gareth's armor which is already +3. Qualde would know this. Keep the spell or cast on someone else. It should work on everyone else as it provides enhancement bonus rather than armor bonus which is what everyone else is using via bracers or mage armor.]

help us (dm jk)
Tuesday October 30th, 2001 8:44:30 AM

Gareth sees how well his intimidation works on the crowd when a girl near the front throws up all over herself from fright. She looks ready to plunge into the trees rather then face the scary warrior.

The leader of the band of citizens isn't quite as impressed, "Then it seems you are on our side afterall. You might tone it down a notch though. I'm trying to protect these people, not scare them half to death. They probably are scared half to death. If you scare them worse, they're likely to fall lifeless from fright. Since you claim to be on our side, I hope that you will help us. My name is Basjar. I'm a cleric of Alemi, may he protect us all this night."

Basjar's statement makes it clear that the sun still hasn't risen. Surely it's well past dawn by now. Some magic more powerful than those that men can wield must be at work. (will check dc12 or shaken, Addinein will check dc10 or frightened)

Basjar continues, "I was at the Golden Arena earlier. We healers go sometimes to keep the contestants alive. What ended up happening was a nightmare. It was horrible. Too horrible to describe but what has happened after is little better. I gathered those I could in an attempt to flee from the Dark Lord's followers that were in the arena. However, the park is full of the undead. There are shades, wraiths, and ghosts everywhere. For every person that they kill another one of the undead rises up. Already our numbers have been depleted. So surely, their strength has grown.
I first took my group to one of the eastern gates, but some Paladins of Domi, who were either mad or possessed, have blocked the gate as well as you have blocked this one. So, I turned the group around and struggled through the park to get here. Help me get these people to safety at the southern gate. I'm afraid that I've used nearly every bit of my strength to get them this far, and I fear all of these here will die in the park and be turned into undead themselves unless you help us get to the southern gate. Please have mercy and help me to help them."
At the end the priest stares at Gareth pleadingly a tear in his eyes. He's apparently a little afraid of the warrior also.

(GMW is cast on his mace) neither tired or surprised bye the continual darkness, Tericus moves along with the others. after hearing what the old healer has to say, Tericus walks up to Gareth and places his hand on his shoulder. "This should keep you in the fight." he says as he casts a spell(shield other, Gareth gets +1 deflection ac and +1 on saving throws, and half the damage done to him goes to me)

Feeling totally invigorated by the spells, the warrior listens to the man and lowers his head. "I beg your forgiveness, father. We have been in fight after fight after fight and feared you might be yet another. I am sorry for using the scare tactics, I felt it necessary to give us an advantage. Yet it appears we did not need it...". He looks up and says where the crowd can hear. "We are your servants, we will make sure you escape at the Southern gate as you request.". The warrior leads the others toward the gate. "Stay behind me, and you will be safe. If something attacks you try and hoild it off long enough for one of us to get there and we will take care of it.". Looking to The Three he says. "Fan out, protect as many as you can.". He walks quickly but deliberately toward the final escape route, wanting to ask the Cleric of Alemi about what happened in the arena, but knowing there is no time for that now.

When the old man comments about the sky, Jus knows it should be dawn by now; but that fact doesn't bother him yet (made DC of 10).

Nonam stares up at the darkened sky in curiosity. He's not really afraid, but he's at a loss for how to explain.

Hearing the request, he nods his head and sets off with the crowd toward the southern gate. To the best of his ability, he uses the horned mask to pick out the shadowy undead before they can suprise anyone.

Qualde (GMW+3, End+3, Stoneskin, MV+3, BS+4)
Tuesday October 30th, 2001 5:30:47 PM

Qualde switches her final casting of Magic Vestment from Gareth to Nonam. (All Magic Vestments she cast provide +3 enhancement bonus to "armour".)

"You take right," she tells Tericus, and herself takes a position along the left flank of the group of refugees. She hustles along with the tired people, watching for undead. "We need to split, near gate. Some to protect these, some to subdue paladins." Qualde's husky voice breaks as she continues. "Not kill them, I pray."

Cantos
Tuesday October 30th, 2001 8:18:02 PM

Cantos looks around and bows slightly to the priest of Alemi. Putting his rapier in its sheath he draws his bow and shifts the 15 enchanted arrows to his drawing side. "Since We have so many people I shall not be as quiet as most would like"' Cantos strides into the middle of the group and drawing the children closest to him followed by the elderly he tells them" Listen to Gareth he is our leader if he says to do something do it quickly..OK?" With that Cantos lifts his proud voice and begins to sing a song Courage and brotherhood that sounds much the same as the hyms that the paladins of Domi would sing.

The band makes its way to the southern bridge. Basjar spoke the truth. The park is teeming with the undead. What would normally have been a pleasurable fifteen minute walk, turned into a harrowing 2 hour ordeal. But Nonam's mask keeps the spirits from catching the group unawares. Basjar, Tericus, and Qualde are then able to turn most of those that approach the group. Gareth, Addinein, and Jus are able to dispatch any that slip by the clerics. Cantos' proud song soothes the crowd of people and keeps them from breaking in fear. The song also soothes Addinein, and he is no longer shaken.
Moving through the park the party truly works as a team, and you escort the people through the park without losing anyone.

As you near the southern bridge though, you step into a large clearing. The sky is overhead with no trees to block it, and everyone is completely aware that it is now daytime. After the time it took to move through the park, it must be at least 10 or 11 in the morning. It's still as black as midnight, and the crowd starts becoming edgy despite Cantos' song. Then suddenly, you see a gleaming column of fire shoot down through the night sky up ahead. The firelight shows the bridge up ahead. Ten paladins stand guard on the bridge, five at either end. Worse two clerics are standing on the bridge. One of them is clearly calling down fire in an attempt to burn the bridge. The other is leaning over the side staring at something. It's impossible to tell what he's doing at first, but as you move closer, you can see that he's shaping the stone beneath the bridge in an attempt to get the river to wash it away.
Basjar says he can keep the group safe now that you are in the open clearing and urges the mighty Three to save the bridge.
As the Three approach, the paladins draw their swords. Their leader says very mechanically "All in the Park are guilty of slaying the Lord. The blood sacrifice of all who are within will return him to us. We will begin with you."
The five crazed paladins then immediately charge the Three. They easily recognize a warrior and two rush Gareth. The first strikes Gareth a mighty blow (AC22,11dmg), but the second one fails to connect (AC14).
Another moves to take on Qualde, as he lifts his sword to strike, he cries, "Blaspheming Drow!"
The blade cuts deep (AC29,13 dmg).
The fourth paladin moves to take on Addinein, "Die blackguard!" His blade also strikes true (AC28, 13dmg).
The fifth paladin turns on Nonam with his horrible horned mask. "Die Demon Die!" Again the paladin shows that he skillfully knows his art and easily slices through the mage's robes (AC29, 15dmg).

The paladins may be crazy, but they are clearly playing for keeps. Basjar keeps his crowd well away from the tree line but away from the fighting as well. He moves to the rear of the crowd to guard against anything that might come from the trees.

The two clerics on the bridge are slowly destroying it. They seem to have no interest in the battle. Neither do the five paladins at the other end of the bridge.

The blow from the paladin does little more than glance off him as a stonelike layer of skin dissipates. There is nothing from the blow but a scratch left in its place (11DMG -10DMG = 1DMG, Divide by 2 since Tericus took 1/2 of it).

"You shouldn't be doing this. I support your master too! Get ahold of yourself. Don't you see all the unholy creatures roaming this place?!? Kill them, not your allies!". He tries to talk them into stopping but if not, he strikes.

The warrior decides to let clerics figure out how to help them regain their senses and he strikes the first (and the second paladin) 5 times with his new staff delivering crushing blow after crushing blow - Basjar begins to understand that his fear of the warrior is not misplaced. As he clobbers them, the scratch on his arm disappears as their strength flows into him.

He tries not to kill these guys, only take them down to unconsciousness - or at least to a point that they can't do damage to anyone.

(Notes: Forgot +5 Bull Strength on rolls so I added them after. []=crit attack, used hero point to reroll 1 - I'm assuming 1 is still a fumble in 3E? Added "Cleave" attack at the bottom since I'm pretty sure he takes out #1 (Hit AC 35,[34] for 20+20=40 DMG, lost 4 more points of Con). And finally, Gareth gets to add all hit points the Paladins lose from the Con loss to his total. (Disregard final attack roll - I forgot Gareth lost "Great Cleave" feat)

The resulting metallic crash reverberates through her heart, bruising it equally. "You loved Domi, as I! Have courage to see truth."

Sorrow makes the dark elf's second swing clumsy (AC 20, 12hp) as she continues, "The truth! These people, not killed our Lord. Their deaths not return Him to us!" The paladin attacking Nonam succumbs to Tericus' spell. Nonam makes sure he won't move and holds him again.

Gareth's staff sucks the life right out of the first paladin. Between the damage and the con loss, he falls over dead. The warrior rounds on the second paladin, and the hand latches on to him. Gareth can feel the staff drinking in the paladin's life, and the warrior feels the presence of Chaugnar Faugn gloating.
(Gareth gets his scratch damage back, but finds the staff will not boost his hit points above their normal level).

Linked to Gareth through the Shield Other Spell, Tericus feels an evil force settle into Gareth.
Chaugnar Faugn is trying to possess the warrior.
(Gareth make a will save DC20.)

Meanwhile, Cantos pops three arrows into the paladin fighting Nonam. Once he's held, he makes an easy target. Qualde gets one good hit in on her attacker. Addinein makes an artful show of defense, but fails to land a blow of his own.

The cleric leaning over the edge does indeed slip and fall into the river as a result of Jus' spell. The weight of his armor bears him straight to the bottom, and he doesn't rise to the surface right away. The second cleric gets caught in the spell, but doesn't slip.

The attempts of the Three to reason with the crazed servants of Domi seem doomed to failure after Gareth kills his two opponents.

Gareth's staff seeks to control him. Gareth feels it urging him to strike the enemy closest to him. Currently that is the held paladin before Nonam. (make that will save or go after him)

The Paladin on Qualde resumes his attack. The first blow goes wide, but the second lands (AC24, dmg8).

The Paladin on Addinein tries to strike but can not land a blow on the defending warrior.

The Paladin on Nonam stares at him transfixed.

Jus make a reflex check to run across the greased bridge to the cleric standing in the middle of it (dc=16).

Gareth appeals to the paladins to give up the fight, and then Qualde bashes hers fairly effectively. The paladin manages to resist Tericus' spell. Likewise the cleric resists Nonam's spell.

Addinein blinks at his foe, but the foe responds with a slicing attack. His first strike connects (AC31, 7dmg), and an angry red line appears on the drow's left arm.

Cantos' arrows disappear in the darkness as they steak by the cleric.

Qualde's paladin attacks her, but to little effect.

The cleric reaches out and touches Jus on the arm casting a deadly spell (AC22), slay living. (fort dc 19 or die, if you save still take 23 points dmg - feel free to use that hero point if you miss).

They themselves would tell you to kill them under those circumstances! Now with his swords, he tries to more accuratly gauge the damage so as to not kill them but instead take them down to unconciousness.

Monday November 5th, 2001 8:08:32 AM

After Gareth drops the paladin that had been on Qualde, a scream pierces the dark. It most assuredly came from the crowd behind the Three. Another scream and a few yells quickly follow, then the crowd is in motion like it was a fluid organism. They're all running for the bridge trampling anything in their way.
(everyone on the bank make a reflex check DC15 to get out of the way or take 7 points dmg.)

The crowd surges up on to the bridge. It looks bleak for Jus. (you can attempt to hop up on the railing (reflex DC20). If you miss that you'll fall into the river. Or if you want to be the tough guy, you can just take the trample dmg).

As the crowd rushes past, they trample the two held paladins, and the cleric gets knocked into the river.

As the crowd clears out, the reason for the stampede becomes apparent. Basjar is standing frozen, still as a statue. He's clutching his holy symbol and facing 5 pasty faced men. Each of the five has the look of the living dead.
A shimmering orb surrounds one that looks to be the leader (spellcraft or arcane knowledge check DC15 to recognize it as a Globe of Invulnerability).

The leaders raises his hand and cries out in a voice that sounds like the rustle of dead leaves, "You are ruining my plans. You've stopped my mob and saved this little bridge. There will not be a third time, and this darkness will last forever. Boys, rip their heads off."

The reference to the darkness makes you remember once more that you are fighting undead in the daytime, but the sun hasn't come up. It must be noon by now. Something is seriously wrong. Worse, the leaders words drive that fact home in an unnatural way. (will DC20 or shaken)

Giving no thought what so ever to the darkness, the four immediately quip, "As you command, Morlas." They start toward the party without hesitation. As the 4 get nearer, you catch a glimpse of fangs.

[I'll send a map on the next turn. For now, vampires 1,2,3,&4 are closing on the party. Morlas is standing back a ways with the frozen Basjar. He's close enough that you could move to him and attack once though. The party is clustered around the bank of the river, save for Jus out on the bridge. Jus can get to the vampires and attack, but not to Morlas.

A cold -and now familiar - shiver rolls over the warrior once again as Morlas speaks but he takes much solas in the fact that they are foiling his plans effectively (Saved DC 22). Struggling to stand firm he mulls over to himslef the constant barrage of fear tactics used by these things. "Man, can't these guys just fight and stop trying to take over your mind?!?". As his resolve hardens he bellows out to the being in the globe "Get used to disappointment if you think you can survive against us! Prepare to die - again!".

Seeing Nonam engage the leader, the warrior decides to make the most of his time and launches his attacks on the first closing vampire (so he gets all 5). He slices him directly hoping to end his miserable existance before he has a chance to strike. He also makes sure and block any attempt for these things to go after the crowd or pick up the staff he just dropped. "What could one of these things do with that thing?" he ponders to himself... Morlas' comments about the sky bother Jus... it bothers him immensely. Jus’ resolve is shaken -- Domi's death is affecting the entire Wold; what’s going to happen next. Unfortunately, Morlas’ diversion has effectively removed the crowd from Jus’ mind. The mob may about to be hacked to death by the remaining Paladins on the other side of the bridge, but Jus is oblivious from it.

Directing his anger and loss at the vampires, Jus casts Dispel Magic on the lich’s Globe of Invulnerability. Incredibly, even with all the stress, Jus’ spell casting focus and technique are perfect (Rolled DC check of natural 20, adjusted to 32 by level Only 28 if only his Wizard levels count).

Nonam surrounds himself in a magic globe. (Anyone that goes into it will lose all spell effects less than 5th level. Same for the one around Morlas.)

The slightly trampled Tericus flame strikes Vampire 1 and 3 as they advance. The two spawns of evil look burned but keep coming.

Gareth hacks away at the Vampire hitting it every time. The thing is tough though and it stays on its feet.

Cantos' arrows fly true toward Morlas, but when they enter the globe, they lose their enchantment. Only the first seems to strike, but it bounces off. It seems the lich is well protected. However, his song proves valuable and calms those that would otherwise be shaken by the dark day.

Jus' dispel magic brings down the lich's globe of invulnerability.

[Addinein slipped in while I was writing my last post, so we'll do him first.]

Addinein closes with Vampire 4, and his first blow seems to strike, but the Vampire shows no sign of being damaged.

When Jus' brings down the globe of invulnerability, Morlas chuckles to his followers, "I think you boys are going to have some trouble with these heroes, but I don't think I will. He starts casting.

Vamp. 1 looks pretty peeved about being flame striked, and the singed baddy attacks Tericus. It lunges in a fury, and the priest nimbly steps to the side.

Vamp. 2 attempts to return the favor to Gareth, but Gareth keeps his pair of swords between himself and the fanged menace.

Vamp. 3 heads for the giant Qualde but can't even hit the big target.

Vamp. 4, however, has better luck as it slams into Addinein (AC21). The thing hits hard, and Addinein takes 9 points of damage. Worse the vampire leeches off some of Addinein's strength. (One negative level, -1 to all attacks, saves, skill checks. lose one level of hp).

Morlas finishes his spell and a cone of bright colors shoots out of his hand. Prismatic Spray. It seems that Nonam, who stands at the center of the far end of the cone was the target, but the beams of color strike all over.
Vamp 3 is struck by a violet beam.
Qualde is struck by a green beam.
Cantos is struck by a red beam.
Vamp 2 is struck by an orange beam.
Gareth is struck by a red beam.
Nonam is struck by a red beam.
Vamp 4 is struck by an orange beam.
Addinein is struck by a yellow beam.

When the violet beam strikes vamp #3, it disappears. When the orange beam strikes vamps 2 & 4. They each fall forward and lie motionless on the ground. After a second, the turn to vapor. The vapor rises from the ground and begins to drift back toward the trees.

Looking up to ensure the lich is in range of the spell, Jus sees Gareth close with the Lich and attack. "Arghh!" Jus yells in frustration.

His frustration, however, is short lived. With a show of resolve, Jus jumps down from the bridge [remembering to drop his grease this time], runs wide to the left of Tericus and the vampire, heading towards the lich. Jus makes up as much ground as he can, but ensures he ends up out of physical reach of the lich until Jus has opportunity to close the distance himself.

Campaign DM Jerry [OOC]
Wednesday November 7th, 2001 10:08:53 AM

Dear The Three:

As you have been informed by JK, all of the treasure that you were given in your recent Myth Drannor Module was unapproved. I have researched this situation extensively and have tried to be as fair as possible while still sticking to my guns concerning our policy that all treasure has to be approved.

I understand the frustration that you must feel concerning this. I have prepared two options. You may decide which to choose.

Feel free to expedite matters and discuss them with separate posts from your “roleplaying” ones on the board. We’ll delete the “OOC” posts after the discussion. JK will inform me of your decision as soon as you make it.

--------

Option 1: We dig up the character sheets from before the Myth Drannor adventure and trade your current magic items for the ones that you had before the Myth Drannor trip. I award 50,000gp to the group to account for treasure that would have been gained during the adventure, had it been approved. If you choose this option, I will have Kent email your pre-Myth Drannor character sheets to you in case you don’t have a copy. You will upgrade new xp and turn it in to JK for approval. This is the least complicated of the two options, assuming that we have access to the old characters sheets. I’ve been informed that this is not a problem.

Option 2: I look up the DMG3 value for items given or estimate equivalent values and award the group value in gold. Under this option I may declare a cap since the treasure given is above and beyond anything that I would have approved. My current thinking is that a cap of about 120,000 is more than fair for the monetary value of a single module’s treasure, but we’ll see. If you choose this option, I will add up the value and get it quickly to you so that you can shop. I’ll also inform the Catacombs to move you to the front of the line and to expedite your shopping as long as what you buy is from the DMG3. Custom items will not be rushed and will be processed as normal in the BGC. I’ll try to do a 24 hour return if this option is chosen.

-------

It would be good to have this decided ASAP. Friday is perhaps a good goal date to tell me of which option you choose.

Again, I feel your pain,

Campaign DM Jerry

Thursday November 8th, 2001 8:45:58 AM

Addinein falls down certain to die if his companions don't aid him soon. (make a fort check dc 14 to regain the negative level after the Vampire disappeared. If you make it, you're alive at -9)

Tericus casts his spell and moves in closer while Cantos circles around behind the lich. Jus swings his sword and creates enough light that everyone can easily see.
Gareth and Qualde take turns hammering Morlas, but Gareth is distressed to see that his blows have little effect. When Jus' summons the sunlight, Gareth and Qualde can see flecks of diamond powder glinting off the lich. It seems he had the forethought to cast stoneskin on himself.
Nonam's magic missles zip in and take their full toll.

Morlas
Thursday November 8th, 2001 8:57:47 AM

In between Gareth's blows, Morlas mockingly claps his hands together and rasps, "You guys are a lot of fun. I'd love to stay and play, but killing one of you is enough for today. Maybe tomorrow..."
He casts and disappears.

[Gareth and Qualde may take attacks of opportunity. No chance for full attack as he is actually leaving at the end of the round. That is to say you guys had 1st action in the round]

Across the River - DM JK
Thursday November 8th, 2001 9:11:49 AM

Across the river, you all see a mob lit by torches. Clearly, it's the mob that you encounted last night. Gosh, that seems ages ago. It seems even longer since you last slept. You've done so much fighting in the past 40 hours. A beholder, a mob of cultists, shadows and spectres thoughout the park, paladins, clerics, vampires, and a lich.

(need fatigue checks again. need fort save DC30. Those that were already fatigued, check for exhaustion DC20. Eat, and you can knock five off the check. Nonam had the potion of rest and doesn't have to save.)

It doesn't look like there's time for rest yet either. The mob is heading for the High Lord Mayor's, castle which is directly across the bridge. They don't look friendly.

On this side of the river, Basjar, the preist of Alemi, is still standing paralyzed. Addinein doesn't look good either. He really might be dead. The darkness seems to be spreading beyond just the sky. Is the sun ever going to come up?

The warrior cuts into the lich as it casts (Hey, doesn't a successful hit make its spell fail? Did his last one fail?). He focuses his attack on doing as much damage as possible in hopes he's done enough to get rid of or at least overcome the stoneskins (Used Power Attack Feat, Hit AC 28 for 33 DMG). He closes his eyes and listens for any sign of the lich as he scans the area audibly (Using Improved Blind Fighting Feat).

Barring any discoveries that it just went invisible (or successfully disrupted its spell...), the warrior calls on all his internal fortitude and with a mighty effort and fights off the fatigue once again - almost (failed by 2 :(). He looks visibly tired now, knowing even his great strength and resolve cannot shield him from exhaustion forever. Looking around he calls out "Help Addinien and Basjar. I think the mayor will be able to take care of himself. Although I'd say we better go over there once we've taken care of our own.".

[jk - hitting a caster no longer automatically makes a spell fail. Concentration skill can prevent it. Plus Concentration is a con related check, and undead are immune to Con type checks/saves.]

[jk - also, I don't think that you can use power attack on an attack of opportunity. It says you have to use it on ALL attacks for the round. Technically the AofO happened last round, and you didn't use the power attack on all the other attacks for the round.]

all the effort in the previous 40 hours finally catches up to Tericus(fatigued), but none the less he move to Addinien and casts CCW on him, healing back 29 pts of damage(re rolled the one)

Cantos singing stops as the bard sucumbs to the fatigue that has eluded him in the past hours. He rushes over to Addein and casts Cure Serious Wounds on him curing 37 points of health (rerolled 1). He nods at Gareth "we must quickly get to a safe place I feel as though I am going to keel over"

Jus almost collapses with the weight of the sword and exhaustion (missed exhaustion roll with a natural 1). Through sheer determination, he manages to keep the sword swinging for a couple of more minutes, just in case the lich or vampire spawn return (hero point - rerolled exhaustion check, made it with a modified 30).

As he finally drops his arm, Jus looks around and sees Addinein. "Oh, please no...," Jus mumbles tiredly. Jus walks over beside Qualde, silently giving his support, and awaits to see if Tericus and Cantos can help.

The priestess winces as the light from Jus' blade flares in her sensitive eyes. She takes a last frustrated swing at the departing lich (AC 36, 17 hp), then gives in to fatigue as the long day finally catches up with her (failed fatigue save with 18). "Knew Morlas is trouble," she croaks.

Trusting in Tericus to do what he can for Addinein, Qualde stumbles over to Basjar. She digs out her waterskin and takes a drink to ease her damaged throat for spellwork. Passing the skin to Jus, she begins an intricate incantation to release the frozen priest (Break Enchantment). Sometime in the midst of casting, she shrinks to her normal size.

Nonam
Friday November 9th, 2001 7:05:26 AM

Nonam casts detect magic and has a look at the paladins' gear. As he checks it out, "Where are we to find safety yet? Behind us it the park, and as Basjar told us, the other exits are closed. We can't really rest here. We're likely to bump into more undead. And if we cross the river, we have to deal with that mob again."

still more to do? DM JK  3d8(4+2+2)+8=16
Friday November 9th, 2001 7:37:32 AM

Addinein is snatched from the very jaws of death as Tericus and Cantos work their healing magic. Meanwhile, Qualde frees the cleric from his paralysis.

Basjar's first act of freedom is to fall to the ground weeping. Perhaps to help compose himself or perhaps because it's his spiritual calling, he finally rises and crosses over to Addinein. He lays his hands on the drow's shoulder and casts Cure Serious. (16) Finally he manages a grin and looks over at Nonam, "When you cast that fireball, I thought you were going to fry me too. I think you singed my beard."

Nonam's spell reveals that two of the paladins held magic swords. Perhaps the others did as well, but they seem to be missing. No doubt the stampeding crowd knocked them into the river or some such. (2 +1 longswords complete with a "Jerry Approved" stamp)

You have time for a quick bite to eat and a little rest in the park by the river. Under normal circumstances it would be a pleasant way to spend an evening meal, except of course the circumstances are far from normal.

Across the river the mob has finally come to the castle. The palace guard comes out to try to chase them away, and it turns into a pitched battle. The mob must number thousands by now, and there can't be more than 40 guards. At first it looks like the guards will be enough, but a leader seems to emerge to direct the mob. You catch periodic glimpses of him, he's tall with a sharp, thin mustache. He's dressed all in black. He looks fairly normal, but something about him makes you feel sick inside.

The guards now seem to be losing. The mob will assuredly find its way into the castle, unless you or someone else does something soon. The High Lord Mayor is probably safe somewhere, but it wouldn't be fitting for an angry mob to take over the house of government.

Tericus(fatigues, GMW+3, MV+2, End, BS+2)
Friday November 9th, 2001 7:59:09 AM

Feeling uneasy about the non-assuming man, Tericus says "Is it possible that that man isnt what he seems? If what we fought was a Lich, he could easily be using illusions to hide his appearance...." (That's it for me, see you all next week.)

Gareth (Shield Other, GMW (shortsword+3), stoneskin (10/+5), 110pts),endurance(con+2), bull's str (+5))  d20+21=35 d20+16=18 d20+11=14 d8+10=16 d8+10=14 d8+10=13

Tired and angry, the warrior rails against all that is going on. "Nonam, put up on of those walls of fire in front of them again. That way the guard can take out the group that's split off. At this point I'm inclined to just take out the mob. They've made their choice - and it's the wrong one. One of you magic users blast the tall guy with the mustache. Maybe some big fireball will kill enough of those bozos around him so that we can get some good shots at him.". The warrior moves over to the bridge, pulls his bow from his shoulder, and begins firing arrows at the front of the mob in hopes of reducing the pressure on some of the guards - unless a clear shot at the leader arises and he'll take that instead. (He hits AC 35,18,14 for 16+14+13 DMG)

Addinein
Saturday November 10th, 2001 10:22:10 PM

With all the attention that Addinein receives, everyone sees the color return to his face. His health looks relatively rejuvenated (over 2/3rds@57). Waking up, and feeling somewhat out of place, Addinein looks up into the concerned faces, and asks, "What happened?"

Nonam  12d4(1+4+4+4+4+2+3+2+4+2+1+4)=35
Sunday November 11th, 2001 8:33:43 AM

"Gareth, anything I do from here will threaten the guards as well. And you can't stop enough of them by simply popping off arrows. We're tired, but we're better than them. Give me a second to kill off a few hundred, and then follow me."

Nonam takes out Fromm's Rod of the Cat and uses it to Shadow Walk about 30 feet into the middle of the mob. When he steps out, he immediately casts circle of death.

(slays 35HD, everyone in a 50ft radius needs to make fort save DC21, those closest die 1st]

Cantos slumps over "I cant seem to..." his words trail off the effects of the neverending night seem to have sapped the remaining strength and resolve from the bard. " Sorry guys I just dont seem to have anything left to give but I will try." Cantos then pulls out his Bow and notches an arrow wating the mages back as he appears in the crowd.(prepared action to fire arrows at anyone who threatens nonams safety)

Qualde (GMW+3, End+3, Stoneskin, MV+3, BS+4, Fatigued)
Monday November 12th, 2001 3:55:33 AM

"What happened?" Qualde repeats, helping her brother up. "That undead spawn of a lislas blasted you, laughed at us, and fled. Now our mob is attacking the seat of government."

The priestess rubs at green eyes dulled with exhaustion. Will this horrible night never end? Her throat aches, her heart aches, and in the back of her mind she knows that when things slow down, she will have to deal with the reality of Domi's loss. She pushes the thought roughly aside and forces herself to deal with the problem at hand.

Joining the others on the bridge, she studies the crowd and points out the gap where Nonam has thinned our the mob a bit. "We bunch together, plow through there straight to gate."
