Room at the Inn??

DM Kent
Tuesday October 30th, 2001 6:08:06 PM

As the boy rushes in the men seem to almost to have forgotten about you all as they strain to see and hear what is going on. You notice however that none of them move to aid the boy.

Sir Thomas and Alyndar manage to get the boy calmed down and get a little bit of sense out of him. As Alyndar talks with the boy, Sir Thomas does his thing and finds no one of evil in the inn. As they talk with the boy, they find out that a group of the abbey's clerical inhabitants seem to have gone crazy and started killing anyone in their way as soon as they emerged from the smoking rubble. The boy mentions something about the priest mumbling how everyone was evil and needed to be purified.

Altemia peaks through the door and Uteva climbs up to the roof from a second floor window. Both see that it is still very dark out here, like it was on the bridge where they just left only here there is thick thick smoke hanging around the inn and the surrounding area immediately to the West. The light from the two red moons makes things even harder to see and tell what is going on.

What you see is almost too unbelievable. Through the cracked door and from the roof you can see what is very obviously a group of very crazed individuals all carrying very bloody weapons and they definitely heading toward the inn. Beyond them you see what used to be the Domi's Abbey, as well as what can only be 15 or 20 lifeless or near lifeless bodies.

Between you and the abbey, about 200 yards away, are a group of terrified children being herded by a teenage girl toward the inn, as four or five teenage boys try their best to delay the madmen. Even as you watch another of the boys is brushed aside with a swipe of a well handled mace.

As Altemia draws in a gapsed breath of horror, she passes along what she sees to those in the room. As she does so, the dozen or so men in the Inn paste themselves against the window, watching the scene. Moments later, several, obviously, non-fighter types start making sounds about going out and helping the kids. They make a start toward the door and are stepping outside when the second boy is overrun.

From Uteva's vantage point she can see there are 7 individuals attacking the children and heading toward the Inn.

Thomas looks at the boy, "Thank you son. We will do what we can. Find someone you know and stay close to them." He looks at Alyndar with a quick glance, "You have some explaining to do my friend." Thomas then draws his sword, makes his way through the door of the inn, and charges down the steps of the inn. He calls, "STOP THESE SENSELESS ACTS OF MURDER!! This is NOT how Domi would have you represent his name. Stay your hand. Run boys. I will take the brunt of their anger. I am a seasoned fighter. Come kill me if you must turn from Domi." Thomas pulls up after the group of fleeing kids pass him. He takes a defensive position and waits for the clerics to advance to him. He tries to convince them that this is not what their teachings would have them do. he tries to pursuade them to turn from these murderous acts. IF they persist he will try to knock their weapons from their hands without hurting them - Readied actions. (Rolled 2 + 10 for diplomacy = 12 to try to pursuade the clerics; rolled 6 + 10 melee = 16 to disarm clerics; rolled 6 + 5 melee = 11 to disarm clerics)

Ilsidur
Tuesday October 30th, 2001 10:21:33 PM

Ilsidur charges out the door hot on Sir Thomas's heels. He sees the clerics attacking the children and starts to run as fast as possible to put himself between the crazy clerics and the children. [OOC: I read the distance to the children to be 200 yards. Ilsidur runs at 45'/turn, doubled due to Boots of Striding and Springing, so covers 90'/round]. As soon as he reaches within 150' of the clerics, he slows down enough to cast a Dispel Magic on the crazy clerics. He shouts, "Leave the children alone, and come and try to purify me! I feel so dirty!" He continues to move towards the clerics, pulling his waraxe and shield, and waits to see what happens.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Wednesday October 31st, 2001 12:01:54 AM

Sly yells at the mem in the Inn. "Come and help those small children. Help get them in here to safety, they need your help!" Sly will follow Sir Thomas and anybody else who is going to their aid. "This way boys, Help the girl get the small ones into the Inn, We will try to stop those mad men." Now Sly gets ready to fight, he'll has taken with him his long sword and shield. Then he stand fast.

Luke will be at Sly side.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil (+1/+1)
Wednesday October 31st, 2001 1:49:09 AM

Altemia figuring that there is going to be fighting soon, leans down and places a hand on Kevil's head. Touching the mistletoe in her pouch she murmurs 'Tuffana Bitra' (magic fang).

At a motion from Altemia, both Tara and Kevil move at a run (100'/round) toward the mad priests to keep them from the children.

Ael d'Gaiaim
Wednesday October 31st, 2001 10:20:37 AM

Ael thanks Alyndar and stands up, brushing off his clothes. He looks at the mad priests through the door, and his eyes glaze.

Looking back at Alyndar, he says, "I prepared for a day of divination, not combat. I have only a web spell left. If need be...I will attempt to trap them, or at least slow them down."

He walks quickly toward the priests, but remains a good distance away, and behind Sir Thomas.

Alyndar
Wednesday October 31st, 2001 5:01:13 PM

Aly rushes out, and to the children, pulling out a staff along the way. He rushes to the group of men, swinging with barbaric rage, and in the hopes they will turn their vengeance on him so the children and young boys might survive. All the while, trying to scream some sense into them.

(used my full move to get to them, so no attack this round)

Teva knocks a well-crafted arrow to her short bow and takes aim at the cleric who poses the greatest overt threat to the brave boys. She waits to see if the others' words will have any effect, but releases the shot if the maddened cleric continues to attack. (readied action hits AC 25 - 2/60', 3hp damage)

DM Kent
Wednesday October 31st, 2001 7:20:21 PM

The party rushes out the Inn to aid the kids and prpares to defend them as well as face down the maddend clergymen. It takes roughly two rounds for you and the kids to intercept each other and by then another two of the boys fall and the other two are fading fast.

The men in the Inn start helping get the kids inside but none have weapons and many are not in fighting shape due to lack of fitness or excess of alcohol.

At this time Ils casts his spell, Thomas starts his diatribe, and Teva lets off her arrow, possibly saving one of the boys as her arrow seems to aid in the misstrike of a mace. There are now seven crazed clergy men facing you now. two are wearing no armor and and waeponless, three are armored and wielding maces and two are armored and wielding swords. The party has initiative. You are now in mele range.

(I will work on getting a map out soonest. Please designate who you are attacking By # 1- #6)

"GRRRRR!!" Having to watch the brave young boys fall to the crazed clerics enrages Thomas. "Alemi, guide my heart. Domi, guide my hand. I refuse to give in so easily." Thomas continues to rush forward toward the clerics. He uses his shoulder to knock the closest one down. (No map) He pulls his punch by not using his spiked shield, this time. (Rolled 9 + 10 melee + 10 AC? = either 19 or 29 to knock down cleric.) Thomas then uses the hilt of his sword to punch out at the next closest cleric. (Rolled 6 + 5 melee = 11 to hit; damage unknown) Thomas then prepares to defend himself in the mad craze that all around him are in. "Come to your senses! These are children you are killing! Domi will surely have your hides for this."

[OOC: I haven't received the map yet. I don't know which clerics are closest to me. Just pick two and I'll attack them. Thomas is trying not to be lethal.]

After seeing what these clerics to those poor boys and those clerics are still trying to kill the children. Sly attacks (C1) the cleric that hit that boy. "So you want to attack boys who are helping small children,DO YOU?" Sly swings and draws blood. But keeps his eyes on cleric(F1) to his right.

Luke will follow his masters lead and jump on the same clecic (C1) and will try to bite the arm with weapon and shake his head.

OOC: Sly's roles to hit= 17, damage(hopefuly)= 9, Luke role to bite=22, damages= 8.

Seeing Sly taking on Cleric #1, Ilsidur moves forward and swings at Cleric #2 (assuming he can reach him, otherwise will move and swing at closest enemy). [OOC: Hit AC26 for 11 hp damamge.] He shouts, "Come and be purified by someone who can swing back!"

"Sir Thomas, what are you doing? Do you want us to capture these child-killers? I say we drop them where they stand. Is there some reason we don't want to?"

Aly, tears streaming down his face, seeing the unadaulterated slaughter of young innocents, goes into a frightful rage, unlike him as everyone knows, and with spittle flying and curses (in elvish) pouring from his mouth, Strikes at one of the clerics who just struck down one of the children, doing 6 points of damage. Aly will try, during his strike to position himself between the cleric and one of the other youngsters.

Altemia and one of her companions encircle one of the clerics (F1). Altemia and Tara take up flanking positions. Moving into position, Altemia takes a good swing at the mad priest striking him soundly (att 26, poss crit w/18, dmg 5 or 8 w/crit) with her scimitar in one fluid motion. Moving quickly she also strikes at him with her curved sickle (att 24, dmg 2). Tara waits for a moment when he is distracted by Altemia and jumps at his leg in an effort to bite and trip him. Unfortunately, her teeth only grap cloth and not flesh (att 10).

Kevil moves past Altemia and Tara to attack the man behind them (M1). He too moves at the legs hoping to get a grip and pull him down, but he seems to miss but a slight margin (att 12).

From her postition kneeling at the near corner of the roof, Teva whispers, "Ilsidur, please. Have mercy. Their god has just died." Teva draws and shoots at Mage #2, wincing as her arrow hits its mark (AC 21, 6hp). "These people are obviously mad with grief. That's no excuse for murder, but --"

Uteva takes aim with her bow for an extremely long range shot with her short bow and lets fly she watches as the arrow heads toward its mark 210 feet away (rolled 27 - 7 range penalty = 20) and smiles as her arrow seems headed to her intended target and lodges in the monks body.

Sir Thomas barrels into the other Monk and staggers him and moves on to bash at the cleric. At Ilsidur's call, Thomas calls back over his shoulder, "They are not evil, only crazed by their grief."
As he completes his explaination M1 gets off the ground relatively quickly and immediately moves to attack Sir Thomas from the flank. At the same time he is attacked by both C3 and M2 as well. M1 hits Thomas twice with open handed blows that rock the Paladin (9 points) and then is hit by a mace for an additional (5 points). M2 attacks as well but is distracted by the arrow that he tried to deflect and misses Thomas.

Sly and Luke attack C1 with some success and The cleric stops where he is as a wracking sob goes thru his body and collapses to the ground in a fetal position, rocking back and forth.

Ilsidur also has success in his attack but is rewarded in kind as he gets caught firmly in the side with a mace (7 points)

Thru his rage, Alyndar flings himself into F2 and cuts him a bit and as a reward he gets hit by the first of two slashes from his opponent. (11 points)

Altemia flies into her opponent F1 and is cheered by her success. unfortunately her companions do not fare as well as both come away with mouthfuls of cloth for their efforts. Her opponent though chooses to ignore altemia and focus his attack on the furry beast at his feet, and connects with 2 shots to the wily wolf. (Tara 9 points)

Standing to the rear and observing what is going on, Ael waits and ponders what it is he can do to help.

Ael dashes toward Alyndar, who he sees is perhaps in dire straits. He pulls a bolt from his belt and locks it into his crossbow as he moves. He tries to analyze where a web spell could be of the most use. (OOC: Will use it when I have a map. :))

Thomas' face scrunches from the brutal hand blow delivered by the monk. It even brings tears to his eyes, tears that keep him from guarding against the slash of the next attacker. Thomas begins to growl a low rumble in his throat. "GRRR. Remember that I tried to talk sense to you. Alemi will hold YOUR soul responsible for all of this." He kicks at the monk on his right (M2) targeting the monk's knee in an effort to put him painfully but safely to the ground. (Rolled 14 + 10 melee = 24 to hit; dmg? d2? 1 + 4? kick? = 5 plus knockdown?) Thomas then turns his attention to the other two attackers. he dodges their jabs until he sees something in one of their defenses. He strikes with the flat of his sword trying to smack the attacker (C1) in the face to get his attention. (Rolled 11 + 5 = 16 to hit; dmg? d2? 1 + 4 = 5 hp dmg) "Ilsidur, can you save any of the children with some healing? We will hold these crazed fellows off."

Tara, indignate at being hit, strikes out again at the mad priest (att 20, dmg 6) this time grabbing his leg and she tries to pull him down.

Thomas kicks out at M2 connecting with a well placed kick that trips up the monk, and while he doesnt fall he stumbles enought to not be able to attack this round. As he turns back to face Thomas he looks around and with a mournful cry falls to the ground wailing and tearing at his clothes. Thomas's second attack on C3 also connects but through the blood rushing out of his nose swings his mace at Thomas connecting solidly, dealing the paladin a blow that he feels all the way to his other side (9 points). M1 turns to Thomas and with a yell attacks with a flurry of blows. "Evil one, you may have stilled my brother but you will not still me." hitting on two of his three blows. (20 points)

Ael rushes to Alyndar's aid and with his crossbow targets his opponent and nails him with a bolt for (6 points) and F2 looks around for a moment and with a cry turns, drops his sword and starts heading back toward the ruined abbey.

Sly moves north ad adds his two cents worth on F2 as Ael's bolt hits him as well.

Alyndar with tears in his eyes and a pain in his arm, swings and misses as his friends deal his opponent several blows.

Altemia whips into action against F1 and neatly slices the air around him into little pieces. Tara on the other hand grabs hold of the mans leg and gives it a hefty shake. This time, afraid of hitting himself, he strikes ot at Altemia, hitting her for 6 points. Kevil again lunging at his opponent manages to get a large mouthful of robe.

Ilsidur turns the blade of his ax at the last moment and slams it straight into C2's face. Shaking it off the claeric swings back with his mace and through the film of blood flowing down his face manages to misjudge his attack and watches as his mace swings by Ilsidur harmlessly.

Uteva's arow falls short of F2 as he turns and heads back toward the abbey.

Sly turn his blade to hit the Cleric (F1) with the side of his blade. "Look at what your doing, Sir. These are just young children, NOT EVIL IMPS. I loved Domi too, and you don't see me killing children." Sly hopes to reason with what he has just said to him.

Luke on the other hand, sees that Sly is in trouble (again) goes after the cleric with a nice bite on the ankles.

Thomas staggers from the combination of the attacks put on him by the monk and cleric team. He knows something is broken, but a deeper and sharper pain grows inside him. he knows he can not fight this force any longer. Time for stalling is over. As Thomas recovers from the reeling attacks and defends himself until he can lash out at them he explains very calmly to them, "What you are forcing me to do pains me as much as being forsaken by my lord Alemi." When Thomas sees his opportunities he strikes with full out attacks. (Rolled 20 + 10 melee = 30 to hit monk CRITICAL; rolled 2 + 3 + 4 STR = 9 dmg) Should the monk still live Thomas will attack him again since he poses the largest threat to Thomas and anyone he is protecting. Should the monk fall (doubtful) Thomas will attack the cleric. (rolled 20 + 10 melee = 30 to hit CRITICAL; rolled 3 + 4 + 4 STR = 11 dmg)

ooc Just a note, in regards to critical rolls, when you roll a critical success, you need to roll again, and if you hit the second time, then it is a critical success. Read Critical Hits in the Player Handbook.

In the book, rolling a critical is considered a critical potential. Roll again with the same modifiers and if you hit again, doesn't matter if it is a critical type hit, as long as you hit their ac, then and only then is it a critical success.

Sir Thomas flies into his next attacks with full gusto hitting the monk with two well placed hard hitting shots ( I went and rolled your critical threat rolls for you, both hit.) The Monk while obviously hurt remains standing for a moment and then as if something has cleared his mind screams out,

"OH DOMI What have we done!"

Then falling to his knees he starts crawling toward the nearest downed child. The cleric C3 swings his mace at Thomas and somehow manages to lose control of his mace and stands there as it hits him full in the face. As the blood flows, he to seems to come out of his funk and just stands there staring and bleeding.

Sly attacks the fleeing fighter that he is near and realizes that he has just struck an aware, extremely saddened, unarmed opponent, while Luke attacks the moaning cleric he was previously worrying.

Uteva makes it outside the Inn and starts toward the combat.

Altemia attacks the fighter in front of her and connects with her sickle. He then blinks hard several times, utters a low primal moan and then collpases to the ground foaming at his mouth and tearing at himself. Tara doing the best she can while bleeding heavily misses again and Kevil finally latches on to the Monk as he starts crawling on the ground.

Alyndar starts working on his wounds as Ael, shows up to aid him and between the two of them manage to stop the blood flow and bandage him. (Alyndar recieve 2 points) As Alyndar makes his way back to the Inn, he sees a figure in the dark heading toward him.

Ilsidur swings wide and as he does so is hit in the side for 9 points.

Sly yells "Luke! Come here heel." Then look around at every body. then at the back of the monk that is walking away from him. A tear come to Sly's eye and roll down his cheek. "I'm just as bad as they are, I was trying to hit a monk when he was walking away. OH! DOMI! Mother! Am I turning evil too?"
Sly will help anybody that needs help and then broken hearted he will follow Alyendar and Ael to the inn.
Luke stops and comes back to Sly's side.

Seeing that the threat to himself has been eliminated (unless the other monk has renewed his attack), Thomas quickly evaluates the situation. His body racked with pain from the efficient onslaught by Domi's followers Thomas wants to end this entire situation. He charges Ilsidur's attacker, droping his sword just before he makes contact, and tackles the cleric with good form. (rolled 16 + 10 = 26 to hit) He tries to subdue the cleric so that he can see the realization of his friends. ( Rolled 11 + 4 STR = 14 for subdual of some kind) "This must stop. Look at the symbol hangng from my neck. It is a representation of Alemi's and Domi's friendship. It is a symbol of my love for Domi as well as Alemi. I hurt too, but this is not the answer. Look at your friends. These children are not the enemy, and neither are we." Thomas will keep the cleric under wraps until he expresses his understanding of the wrongness of his actions. "We need to help these kids recover from the pain you have inflicted. Heal them if you have any skill in the art or magic left at all. . . Fix this."

"Fetch spare blankets and such, please, and clean rags to use for bandages. The rest of us will help carry the children back here." You can just make out, some of the more aware Priests as they are now collecting fallen bodies of children and adults and are looking around not seeming to know what to do with them. As Uteva's voice rings out from the shadowy figure in front of Alyndar, the priests start moving their bodies toward the inn. There are currently 3 priest types on the ground stil not functional.

The in is now getting quite crowded as the patrons, children, the priests and their burdens and you all make your way inside.

Sir Thomas
Friday November 9th, 2001 10:21:53 AM

Bleeding from multiple wounds, knowing at least one of his bones is broken, and feeling quite relieved that the priests came to their senses, Thomas lies on the ground next to the sobbing priest. He groans a bit when he finally decides to stand up, but bends to retrieve his sword and put it into the proper place in his scabbard. He kneels next to children, priests, monks, and friends alike to administer the grace of Alemi. (Lay on hands for 3 hp to anyone he touches until his powers are expended) Thomas tries to stop the bleeding damage by stabilizing wounds with the magic. He also will carry an unconcsious child to the inn. He begins to cry on the way. He does not verbalize his emotions. When the boy is in capable hands he steps outside, kneels, and prays to Alemi. When he has thoroughly poured himself out to his lord he returns to the inn to use his healing abilities to help those in need.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Friday November 9th, 2001 1:04:51 PM

Sly stands in the door way, making sure that he is between Alyndar and Ael. Away from the reach of this dark stranger. As Sir Thomas enters the Inn, Sly ask him "Sir Thomas, would you please tell me all about Alemi? When you have time, I would like to know more about him."

Alyndar
Friday November 9th, 2001 1:33:38 PM

Aly helps the children into the Inn as best he cans, then plops himself into a chair. Still looking a bit pale and then applies a clean bandage to his wounds. When offered help he waves it off, motioning to the children instead. Aly orders a light Wine and sips slowly and then puts his arms on the table and lightly lays his head onto them, eyes shut.

Uteva (Message)
Friday November 9th, 2001 5:57:19 PM

Uteva does what she can to help with the wounded priests and children, before checking on Alyndar. "Alyndar, I'm so glad to see you." She hugs the older elf, trying not to jostle his bandages. "We were worried when you disappeared, and then when we heard who had you, well --" She gives him a peck on the cheek, then turns to ask one of the priests if they remember where they went on their rampage.

"Let's get a hunting party together to track down the other injured. We'll need lanterns and such -- I have a couple of torches in my pack."

Ilsidur (by Lee)
Friday November 9th, 2001 6:14:53 PM

Ilsidur stabilizes as many of the critically injured as possible using simple healing spells, and putting his more mundane healing spells to use. When Sir Thomas returns inside, he pulls the paladin aside. "Sir Thomas, have you a few words for these followers of Domi? They seem remorseful now that they've recovered their sanity."

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil (+1/+1)  d20+3=10
Sunday November 11th, 2001 2:34:44 PM

Altemia does her best to help those priests still on the ground (heal 10) by binding their wounds. She then helps them to their feet, with the help of the wolves if necessary, and into the inn.
