It begins - DMJK Tuesday December 18th, 2001 9:59:10 AM
It may never be discovered who signed up the Storm Dragons, as it isn't revealed before the contest begins. Contestants drift in from far and wide and arrive at Floating City's Arena for the tourney.
Mitchum, the Storm Dragon's butler (this makes him a prime suspect for the one that signed everyone up), walks onto the field. He begins in an official voice, "Greetings friends. The field today is protected by a strong antimagic field. So you're magic items and spells will not work. Standard items are provided for those that need to replace a magic item." He turns a bit menacing and adds, "Also, no poisons are allowed. If anyone is caught using a poisoned blade, the penalty will be high. Pretty much the clerics won't heal you up after Valdor finishes with you." Back to the official tone, "The format will be a free-for-all. Everyone for himself. All alliances are necessarily temporary. The best clerics in Floating City are standing by to heal the wounded, so don't hold back on anyone. You are out when you involuntarily collapse from wounds. You are also out if one of the house clerics taps you feeling that you are too wounded to carry on. You may also withdraw at any time."
"Now then contestants, form a circle as I announce your names: Gareth Justinian, Valdor the Dragonslayer, the happy elf Jus, the mighty centaur Flattop, Cantos the Bard, Myridden the Wild, Zeoll the Wemic, Bill Troublefinder, Syrreth Redbow, the cleric of Teresallia Tericus, Nonam Firstorlast, the drow Qualde, and finally Mycroft Morningstar."
The group forms a circle with Mycroft standing on Gareth's right and Valdor on his left, and so the circle continues around.
"Hopefully, no one has questions at this point because you're not going to have time for answers. Let the melee begin!" Mitchum blows a whistle, and it seems the event has started.
[in your first post give a quick description of what you look like (how you are armed, etc). In the name field post your AC and your current hitpoints so I can keep track. Now go out and hit someone!]
Nonam (AC14, HP85) d20+5=18 d6+1=7 Tuesday December 18th, 2001 10:05:01 AM
Nonam didn't bother to put on any armor. He's standing out there in nothing but his regular robes clutching a stick in his hand. He's well over six feet tall, but he's absolutely without any musclemass. The staff in his hand looks like it's never been used to hit anything. He looks a bit nervous as he rounds on Tericus standing next to him. He tries to whack the priest about as hard as he can (AC 18, 7pts) and mutters, "Let's go fight over there away from these musclebound freaks." He starts to move away from the circle.
Zeoll (Taur Isles) AC 17, 36 hp Tuesday December 18th, 2001 10:59:11 AM
Zeoll is, of course, a liontaur (aka wemic). He stands seven feet tall and weighs 745 pounds. His mane is auburn, his fur is tawny, and his skin is light brown. Beads braided in his hair signify his family descent, clan, and priest status.
He wears chain mail (light armor), and carries a greatsword in one hand and a longspear in the other. The longspear gives him extra reach, so that an opponent closing with him may suffer an attack of opportunity as he closes.
The liontaur steps forward into the center of the circle, at least 20 feet from the others, if possible. He opens his mouth in song, his accent clear from the first word ... Rrejoice, oh warrriorrs so brrave, Forr battle bold is what we crrave! In Domi's honorr lift yourr sworrd, And laugh when rred yourr blood is pourred! I prromise to be gentle when I knock you down, oh gentlemen!
The liontaur readies his spear in order to pierce any who charge him! In fact, if attacked, he hopes to get an AoO and then his readied attack.
Zeoll's attack numbers: -- spear (used against charges and for AoOs): +2 to hit, 1d8+1 damage (x2 vs charge) -- mw greatsword: +3 to hit, 2d6+1 damage -- paws: +2 to hit, 1d4+1/1d4+1 damage (Note: if attacking with both paws and sword as a full-round action, paws take a -5 penalty)
Gareth (AC 14, HP 146) Tuesday December 18th, 2001 11:21:24 AM
The warrior stands defensively, currently holding his attacks for parrying he waits for the coming attacks. He moves so that he has nobody at his back - before the assault begins. "Come now, Nonam. Surely we're not all that bad...". :)
Gareth Tuesday December 18th, 2001 11:22:52 AM
He stands with his bastard sword and short sword.
Myrridan the Wild (AC 17, HP 73) Tuesday December 18th, 2001 12:01:10 PM
Myrridan the Wild is showing his true colors today. His face and exposed body is covered in War paint. Freightful appearance, indeed! His hide armor is also painted in stark reds, blues, greens and yellows. A necklace of young white dragon bones hang from around his neck, rattling when he walks. The wooden buckler on his left arm is painted with runes of power.
Armed with a quarterstaff, Myrridan swings and twirls the staff around him with the ease of a master as he warms up. A scimitar and a dagger hang from his belt. A tiny sickle is also tucked into his belt with care.
Myrridan knelt down to take a fist full of sand and grinds it between his palms. He looks up at his combatants and gives a nod with a smile.
Myrridan takes a defensive pose and awaits the first attack.
Bill Troublefinder (AC 17, HP 43) d20+9=26 Tuesday December 18th, 2001 1:11:18 PM
"Oh, boy, this'll be fun!" says the halfling. "Who wants me to fight 'em first? Hi everybody. Hi Valdor. I heard you're the toughest, so this is for you, big guy."
Bill steps forward to a spot ten feet from Valdor, bouncing on his toes, short sword in his left hand, a leather bag in his right hand, which he tosses at Valdor's legs. A mess of goo bursts forth, (perhaps) slowing the mighty half elf down. (Tanglefoot bag, ranged touch attack AC 26 - gums up ability to move. -2 on attack, -4 on effective dexterity. Valdor must make a reflex save, DC 15, or be glued to the ground, unable to move. A strength check DC 27 to break free if reflex save fails. See PH, p. 114 for additional info.)
The halfling has a few pouches along his belt, and darts across his chest. He smiles up at Valdor, "Okay, now is when you beat me up, right?"
Myrridan the Wild (AC 17, HP 73) d20+13=32 d6+4=9 Tuesday December 18th, 2001 1:33:38 PM
Awaiting for something, Myrridan's 6 foot 6 frame flexes and his muscles tense.
Upon seeing the actions of Bill, Myrridan's eyes suddenly become that of the predator. With a heart stopping battle cry, Myrridan charges at Valdor with every ounce of fury he could muster.
(OOC: Rolled a attack to hit ac 32, for 9 points of damage.)
Cantos d20+17=36 d20+12=26 d6+2=5 d6+2=5 Tuesday December 18th, 2001 1:54:02 PM
Cantos looks around at the warriors going at it and laughs out loud."Well lets get this going" Cantos starts singing a song of battle feeling his blood stir and rise to the music and attacks Valdor making sure he is standing across from the halfling to get the flanking bonus and uses his rapier on Valdor hitting AC 36 for 5 pts of Dmg and AC 26 for 5 points fo damage. "Lets dance Valdor"
Valdor(ac17,218 -19=199) d20+15=31 d20+27=43 d20+22=36 d20+17=34 d20+17=20 d8+13=18 d8+13=18 d8+13=19 d8+13=19 d8+13=19 d20+12=15 d20+12=28 d8+13=17 Tuesday December 18th, 2001 2:55:34 PM
Valdor laughs loudly, "Come on then. Bring your best game or you're off to the showers early!"
Valdor nimbly sidesteps Bill's attempt to entrap him (dc=31). Then says, "I'll save you for later, Bill." Valdor sticks Bill once, seemingly only to make a point. (18 pts)
Hammering into the large second attacker, Valdor shows why their attempt at him first is well placed as he angrily slices into Myrridian (77 pts).
When Myrridian goes down, he cleaves his way into Cantos, missing once then hitting with his last attack (17 dam). (hit Myrridian with Improved Crit on 17, then on +12 att missed on "Cleave", but hit Cantos on final hit)
"You boys should've picked someone else first," he says in a deep voice.
Mycroft (AC25,HP129) d20+17=35 d20+17=35 d6+7=10 d6+7=8 d20+12=24 d20+7=24 d6+7=10 d6+7=8 Tuesday December 18th, 2001 2:58:57 PM
Until the antimagic field comes up, Mycroft is dressed in fancy clothes befitting a lord. But as soon as the field snaps into place, the clothes turn into black leather armor. He grins at Valdor, "Glamered Armor. You don't really think I'd wear fancy clothes like that to hang out with you?"
He whips out his rapier when the contest starts. He sways back and forth guaging the opponents, and it's readily obvious how he manages to live through the fights that Valdor starts. He may not be as strong, but he wields the sword with a great degree of skill. The blade is as fine as any you've seen too. Even bereft of its magic, the blade dances with rainbows.
When he sees everyone rush Valdor, he grins at Gareth, "Let's get him. Then we'll team up for everyone else and see which of us wins!" He sidesteps around Gareth and scores a critical hit on Valdor.
(ac 35 threat, makes crit with 35 (18dmg), AC24 10dmg, AC24 8dmg : 36 dmg total)
Valdor Tuesday December 18th, 2001 2:59:27 PM
In between whirling swords, Valdor looks down at Bill, and says, "You'd best leave those darts where they are as the contest for those is another time."
Jus d20+13=27 d20+8=23 d20+13=17 d10=10 d10=2 d10=9 Tuesday December 18th, 2001 3:22:01 PM
Jus smiles at the fun -- just like his youth when everyone could pound on each other. He's dressed in a cascade of woodland colors: Summer Meadow Green Stockings, forest green boots, sunset orange, autumn leaves Red/Brown/Orange Silk Shirt, and a forest green cloak.
Jus looks for a spot to team up on Valdor, it certainly sounds like a good strategy to get Val out of the way. Calling out to Mitchum (or anyone else that cares to answer), Jus asks, "Are ranged weapons allowed in this combat? Or is it strictly hand-to-hand melee?"
"Begon vermin Linus!" Jus yells, wondering where he heard that taunt. Striking with both of his swords on Valdor's side (do we get flanking bonus?), Jus doesn't strike too solid as he is still warming up. (hit ac27:damage10; ac23:d2; ac17:d9)
Note for Valdor: Tuesday December 18th, 2001 4:34:07 PM
[OOC: SteveH: Valdor's reflex save just means he's not stuck to the ground. But, since the tanglefoot bag struck him, he IS gummed up by the alchemical goo. So, you should take the -2 for attacks and the -4 to the dexterity, at least until the big fighter takes the time to do 15 hp damage with an edged weapon in scraping off the goo. It might be worthwhile for you to take a minute to read the text in the Player's Handbook, page 114. -Kim]
[Valdor does have evasion. -jk]
Bill Troublefinder Tuesday December 18th, 2001 4:42:57 PM
"OW!" The halfling answers the mighty warrior besieged, "Really? I just never leave home without 'em. Anyway, I got your point."
Question Tuesday December 18th, 2001 4:53:26 PM
With evasion, would he still suffer effects?
[I'm inclined to say no. Let's talk about it on LNB. -JK]
Qualde (AC 17, 81hp) d20+15=22 d8+6=12 Tuesday December 18th, 2001 6:21:44 PM
Qualde watches the initial scuffle with with one of her rare smiles. She wears a breastplate over grey clothing just a few shades lighter than her jet skin. Her blaze of white hair is caught back in a silver clasp to reveal the paired symbols of Domi and Caeroldra at her brow.
When Myrridan falls, the drow hefts her morningstar in a two-handed grip, and hurries to stand over the brightly painted body. "Not sporting, Slayer of Dragon," she husks in accented Common. Qualde emphasises her displeasure with a solid blow to Valdor's side (AC 22 assumes flanking, 12 hp damage).
Gareth d20+19=32 d20+14=33 d20+9=26 d20+14=21 d20+4=24 d20+19=30 d20+14=20 d20+19=23 d10+11=20 d10+11=15 d10+11=21 d10+11=19 d6+4=6 Tuesday December 18th, 2001 7:00:47 PM
Figuring he's next after they all take out Valdor, the warrior decides to act. He smiles at Mycroft and says "I see no fun in ganging up, let's see how a Gold Dragon faces a Storm...". He attacks the nimble man hitting him repeatedly with both weapons (Hit AC 32,33,[30],26,[23],21,24 - nat 20,[20] for 20+15+[21]+19+6=81 DMG
JK Wednesday December 19th, 2001 1:48:39 AM
[Valdor will break down your numbers in your post, so I can see just how in the wold you did that much damage. I know your strength is 27ish so that takes care of most of it.
Gareth, take the magic bonus off your sword on your dmg rolls. +11 is the full dmg on your sheet for the +2 sword. So it should just be +10, right?]
Cantos d20+14=29 d20+9=23 d6+2=8 d6+2=8 Wednesday December 19th, 2001 7:31:30 AM
Cantos winces as the big warrior slices him and assumes a defensive stance (fighting defensively +4 ac -4 attack) and attempts to stop Valdor twice with his rapier hitting AC 29 for 8 points of damage and AC 23 for 8 points of damage. He continues singing his battle song getting +1 to attack and saves.
Tericus(ac21, hps 80) d20+9=29 d20+4=11 d6+3=9 Wednesday December 19th, 2001 7:39:37 AM
A skinny young man wearing chain mail under his robes and carrying a shield and mace, Tericus sidesteps Nonam's attack. Chasing after Nonam, he takes 2 swipes at him, hitting him once critically for 15 pts of damage (doubled the 6 I rolled) "Why don't we go pick on one of those little guys?" Tericus asks Nonam.
When rolling a critical, your first roll is considered a threat. You make a 2nd attack roll at the full attack amount to see if you score a crit. If the 2nd roll hits, then you roll damage twice and add in all the modifiers - instead of actually doubling the damage. So pretty much a crit actually boils down to getting to make a free attack. -jk
Round 2 Wednesday December 19th, 2001 9:13:06 AM
Mitchum starts giving a blow-by-blow commentary, "Well it looks like, everyone is going to gang up on Valdor! That might be just enough to put Gareth in the victor's chair. Nonam and Tericus are off to one side keeping to themselves, and... ouch that wizard took a good thump to the head. Flattop and Syr seem to have stayed away from the fithing this round. Maybe a good idea. Valdor won't be going after them right away. Ouch, Mycroft turns traitor on his teammate, but Gareth makes him pay for it. OHHH! Look at that. Valdor took down Myriddan already! Maybe we should start calling him Valdor the Druidslayer! Now it looks like Valdor is going after little Bill next who brought in a tanglefoot bag. Isn't that against the rules?"
Round 2 begins
Nonam (AC14,HP70) Wednesday December 19th, 2001 9:13:42 AM
When Tericus thumps Nonam, the wizard takes a dive and collapses to the ground like he's unconcious. Tericus hears him say, "Good luck, buddy."
Myrridan the Wild (AC 14, HP -3) Wednesday December 19th, 2001 10:17:46 AM
Myrridan's body is dragged to the edge of the anti-magic field by the clerics. Upon regaining light to his eyes, he looks upon the field with disappointment to the outcome. "Better to be cut down by a great warrior than any other lesser fates. "
Myrridan turns to one of the clerics and says, "Let me help in the recovery and healing ... I wish to heal Valdor when he goes down!"
Valdor(ac15(11-goo factor),hp 114) d20+23=35 d20+23=43 d20+23=39 d20+18=32 d20+18=23 d20+13=31 d20+13=25 d20+8=19 d8+11=13 d8+11=17 d8+11=16 d8+11=19 d8+11=17 d8+11=13 d8+11=18 d8+11=13 Wednesday December 19th, 2001 10:49:05 AM
(Cantos attacked twice that round, FYI. And Cantos and Jus need to post their ac and h.p.)
"Well, come on then. You all want some of me, then bring it!" the large warrior thunders as he is swarmed.
"You shouldn't be name calling, Jus. That makes you next," he says. Valdor lets go of his shield and,in one fluid motion, draws out his other long sword.
If Jus has ever seen the spell "Blade Barrier", he just got a rendition of it as an attack face to face. (hit, threat (off hand), crit, hit, hit (off hand), threat, crit, hit)
(Need to know when Jus goes down. Will "Cleave" to next victim, which will be Cantos)
As he's spinning,s licing, and stabbing, Valdor says to Qualde, "Not sporting, eh? Like 7 against 1 is? I wouldn't expect a drow to understand anyway. If not for your Holy Symbol, you'd have been first."
Gareth d20+20=30 d20+15=30 d20+10=30 d20+15=30 d20+5=15 d10+10=11 d10+10=17 d10+10=16 d6+4=8 d20+20=28 d10+10=17 d20+20=24 d10+10=19 Wednesday December 19th, 2001 11:01:07 AM
The warrior continues to press his attack on Mycroft hoping to take him out before he does a lot more. He cuts into the famous adventurer once again as he comes on, clearly a frown on his face (i.e. doesn't seem to like the idea of taking out a valued ally - but still wanting to win.). If for some reason Mycroft falls before he uses all his attacks Gareth uses them on anyone he can find not closed with Valdor first - or one closed with Valdor if he's not able to get to anyone else. (Hit AC 30,30,30,[28],30,15 for 11+17+16+[17]+8=69 DMG) - Cleave Feat hit AC 24 for 19 DMG (If Mycroft is out).
Since we're not truly dealing with initiative, everybody gets to make their attacks for the round. Sort of a simultaneous action. Just cause you post first doesn't necessarily mean you go first because we all post on some sort of schedule. So Mycroft gets to wail on Gareth a bit, then he's out at the end of the round. Same goes for later in the fight. -jk
Gareth (AC 14, HP 146) Wednesday December 19th, 2001 11:14:05 AM
Oops. Forgot to list items. Sorry, JK. I adjusted damage and attack bonuses.

Syr grins as Noman takes a dive and then looks around wondering if he should do the same.
With a shrug, he pulls out a bizarre double weapon. On one end is a flail and the other a sword. With a quick pivot he charges Gareth across the circle with pony tail flapping behind. He connects on either arm with the flail and the sword (damage 9+12=21 to Gareth).
(OOC: Hey! I can post today :)
Bill Troublefinder (AC 17; 25 or 43 hp) d20+9=15 Wednesday December 19th, 2001 12:10:10 PM [Based on posts here and on the Loot 'n Booty, it seems that Valdor may not have poked Bill. Until JK rules officially here, though, I'll post the alternative hp]
Since Bill's melees throughout his life have including him throwing things, and since the announcer who set out the rules didn't say he couldn't use the bags - just no magic, and no poison, he doesn't figure he's cheating at all. [Of course, just because he thinks that way doesn't mean he might not be disqualified :-) .]
So, he sees the mighty Gareth, with whom he has enjoyed a crawl through the Maw, and decides to be democratic in his sharing of the joys of goo. He tosses another tanglefoot bag toward the stalwart fighter's legs, saying, "Think fast," and as the bag is inches from striking, he adds his name, "Gareth!" Gotta give a guy a chance, after all. (AC 15. Gareth make reflex save, or be stuck fast to ground. Attacks -2, dex -4, half movement, if reflex save made.)
He steps back from the hoard at an angle to stay away from Zeoll's planted stance, glancing over his shoulder to see who else might be around. To no one in particular, he says, "Just gotta level the playing field, a bit." His sword is at the ready. "Nice poetry, sir," he comments to Zeoll.

Jus fights on, realizing that Valdor's blade barrier will probably be his end. "Gareth!" Jus calls, hoping to help his teammate before his fall, "Disarm Valdor!".
Jus manages to land all three of his strikes on Valdor (quite feeble compared to Valdor's prowess). [ac19:dam5 a16:d11 a16:d3; total damage = 19].
"Ouch!" Jus yells, right before he collapses from Valdor's onslaught.

Myrridan is told by the clerics that he was infact only knocked out for a moment from one of Valdor's huge elbows as he was attacking Bill.
Myrridan realizing he was still an active combatant returns to the battlefield rejuvenated!!
Standing defensively about 15 feet from Valdor, Myrridan takes his dagger and sends if flying a him!

Cantos AC 24 Hp 54 starting 37 after Valdors attack +1 to hit with bard song fighting defensivly Wednesday December 19th, 2001 5:28:51 PM
ooc: Cantos is a very well dressed eleven bard wearing plain leather armorso handsome that Valdor wouldnt want to hit him again in fact :)
as per the lnb discussion, Cantos did not get hit by Valdor in round 1. He gets knocked around a good bit a couple of posts down though. Also bardsong is a magical effect (I looked it up to be sure. PHB28). So it's not having any effect. Actually it is. Just not the intended one. The women in the audience seem to adore Cantos. -jk
Zeoll (Taur Isles) AC 17, 36 hp Wednesday December 19th, 2001 5:48:23 PM
Zeoll, still 20 feet from any other fighters, uses a move equivalent action to sheath his sword. He also readies his spear to pierce anyone who charges him.
The liontaur smiles at Bill and continues to sing, although the anti-magic field cancels any numeric benefit of a Bard's Inspire Courage ability. Come on, oh fighterrs mild and meek, My spearr's sharrp point is what you seek!
If attacked, Zeoll expects to get an AoO and then his readied attack before he is struck!
Zeoll's attack numbers: -- spear (used against charges and for AoOs from 5 to 10 feet): +2 to hit, 1d8+1 damage (x2 vs charge) -- paws (used for AoOs within 5 feet): +2 to hit, 1d4+1/1d4+1 damage
Qualde (AC 17, 81 hp) d20+14=17 d20+9=20 d8+6=7 d8+6=9 Wednesday December 19th, 2001 6:26:14 PM
"True, Valdor, but observe," Qualde says, "Such number give you small trouble." Her weapon strikes him in couterpoint to her words, landing two light blows on the warrior. (AC 17 and 20; 7, 9 hp damage.)
Valdor(ac14,hp 71) d20+18=28 d8+10=12 Thursday December 20th, 2001 12:34:45 AM
After his 5th swipe connects with Jus and he goes down,Valdor turns his attention to Cantos and continues his assault "cleaving" into him and striking him with another two of his final attacks.(43 points)
[everyone probably needs to know that he is 19th level,so he gets 4 attacks,2 more for improved two weapon, hit with two threats which turned into 2 crits, plus cleave=9attacks.Just wanted you all to know,to be as fair as I can-his ac stinks, though]
(AC 14, HP 57) d20+4=20 Thursday December 20th, 2001 1:00:52 AM
The warrior winces at Mycroft's blows but takes the punishment OK. Being hit by Syr, he uses his Cleave Feat attack on him for round 2 (Hit AC 24 for 19 DMG). He wades through the gunk and continues to fight. (Saved for Bill's goo. Amazing that one so small could cast a bag of stuff that would hold one so large as Gareth to the ground... What, is it a 50 lb flour bag?!?)
Mycroft hit Gareth this round. That post should have been more clear. Hey, I figured it out. This is Gareth. Put your name in the post. It helps. -jk
dM JK Thursday December 20th, 2001 8:54:22 AM
[Tericus, I'm posting a bit early today. I know you post about the same time. So, if you're the next to post, post for round 2 and 3.]
Mitchum continues the commentary. "Myriddan the Wild is back on his feet, and he and Qualde are now the favorites as the mightier warriors have to deal with the packs. Mycroft and Gareth exchange blows, but Mycroft's mistake in attacking Valdor first instead of Gareth seems to have been his undoing, and he goes down. The fell warrior advances next on the intrepid Syr. Meanwhile Valdor, takes out Jus and seems all in a rage about people who throw things at him. That probably should have been against the rules.... oops."
round 3 begins
Tericus (rnd2, ac17, hps 80) d20+9=23 d20+4=21 d8+3=10 d8+3=11 Thursday December 20th, 2001 9:36:51 AM
"See you later," Tericus says to Noonan as he walks away from him. Seeing Zeoll standing by himself, Tericus walks up to him and says "I guess I'll fight you next," then swings his mace at him twice, hitting him both times for a total of 21 pts.
Tericus(rnd 3, ac17, hps 80) d20+9=24 d20+4=19 d8+3=11 d8+3=9 Thursday December 20th, 2001 9:40:58 AM
Continuing his attack on Zeoll, Tericus once again swipes at him with his mace, once again hitting twice for a total of 20 pts of damage. "I hope that didn't hurt too much." Tericus says, feeling a little guilty. "I'll heal you later when the game is over."
Zeoll (Taur Isles) AC 17, 6 hp d20+2=18 d20+2=5 d8+1=4 d20+2=12 Thursday December 20th, 2001 10:30:57 AM
ROUND TWO
As Tericus approaches, Zeoll uses his long spear to take his attack of opportunity (and his readied attack (both at 10 feet away -- BEFORE Tericus strikes with his mace). One of those attacks hits and one misses. Zeoll does 4 hp of damage to Tericus.
Then, as Tericus closes, he hits Zeoll with his mace. Since Tericus has travelled more than 5 feet this round, he can only make a standard attack (not a full attack) and strike once (not twice) for 10 points of damage.
ROUND THREE
In the next round, Tericus hits twice, for 20 hp of damage. Zeoll, still standing, takes a five foot step back, draws a tanglefoot bag, and hurls it at Tericus. That's a ranged touch attack -- no armor bonus to AC applies. Zeoll hits AC 12.
If Tericus is AC 13 or better without armor, the bag of goo misses. If he is AC 12 or less without armor, it hits. If it hits, Tericus must make a Reflex save vs DC 15 or be stuck to the floor; if he makes the save he is at half speed. Either way, if hit he suffers -2 to hit and -4 Dex.
As the scent of blood fills his nose, Zeoll's voice ranges even louder in song. Well fought, my friend! Now that's the show! But I'm not not down and I'm not slow! Come dance some more with me, my foe! We honor Domi with each blow!
NOTE: JK -- please confirm or correct this version of events!
Zeoll's attack numbers: -- spear (used against charges and for AoOs from 5 to 10 feet): +2 to hit, 1d8+1 damage (x2 vs charge) -- paws (used for AoOs within 5 feet): +2 to hit, 1d4+1/1d4+1 damage -- tanglefoot bag: +2 to hit, damage = entangle (ranged touch attack - gums up ability to move. -2 on attack, -4 on effective dexterity. Must make a reflex save, DC 15, or be glued to the ground, unable to move. A strength check DC 27 to break free if reflex save fails. See PH, p. 114 for additional info.)
Gareth (AC 10, HP 57) d20+20=22 d20+15=26 d20+10=18 d20+15=32 d20+5=18 d20+15=25 d10+10=19 d10+10=18 d10+10=20 d6+4=10 d6+4=10 d6+4=5 Thursday December 20th, 2001 11:21:32 AM
The warrior nails Syr grumbling something about having to deal with sticky stuff. In fact the goo causes him to actually miss twice. (Remember the 19 DMG from the Cleave - Hit AC 20,24,16,30,[23],16 for 19+18+10+5=52 DMG). Since there is now nobody closed with him he backs away to make sure anyone who closes only gets one attack on him. The warrior waits to see what else happens. He watches Bill and if he tries to throw something else at him he closes on him before he can launch it.
Cantos AC 26 HP 3 Thursday December 20th, 2001 11:25:59 AM
Cantos falls to the groud barely holding on to his rapier, his song trailing off as he appears to stop breathing.(hold his breath hoping Valdor thinks he is dead)
Myrridan the Wild (AC 17, HP 73) d20=13 Thursday December 20th, 2001 11:33:22 AM
Myrridan the Wild looks upon Valdor with feral eyes. He plants his staff into the ground and draws his scimitar and sickle from his belt. They shimmer as he gives each a twirl.
He moves toward Valdor staying 10 feet away. He concentrates for but a moment and the winds above and around the arena begin to blow dust and leaves as the air becomes blustery.
(Had cast Control Winds before the match. Myrridan is only raising the wind to a power level only to be noticed and not to damage structures or people. He is attempting to distract and or look more menacing. Anyone looking up will notice the clouds swirling in a circle formation and Myrridan is the center of the eye!)
Myrridan lets out a roar like a lion. Realistic enough to fool even the wemic. "COME ON MIGHTY VALDOR, WHAT ARE WAITING FOR...COME GET ME," Myrridan yells has he hunkers over preparing himself for Valdor's advance.
(OOC: Myrridan is attempting to Intimidate Valdor to making him react. Taunting him to attack. Need natural 20 for success against Valdor, but no cigar. Unless you can think of any bonuses for this situation, JK.)
Myrridan the Wild Thursday December 20th, 2001 11:37:35 AM

Qualde (AC 17, 81 hp) d20+14=25 d20+9=22 d8+6=8 d8+6=11 Thursday December 20th, 2001 1:00:31 PM
The priestess gets past Valdor's guard long enough to hit the distracted Gold Dragon twice more. (AC 25, 22; 8, 11 hp damage.)
Valdor d20+1=21 d20+23=34 d20+23=38 d20+18=29 d20+18=30 d20+13=24 d20+8=17 d8+10=14 d8+10=11 d8+10=12 d8+10=18 d8+10=11 d8+10=11 Thursday December 20th, 2001 1:05:04 PM
Valdor looks upon Cantos's prone, unmoving form with open admiration(dc21-nat 20).He quietly says,"Well fought my friend, but you should take yourself to the clerics.I have no desire to slay you. Please do not make me have to do that."
The large warrior turns his back to Cantos to face Qualde."Dark one,I do not know you,but I've known many of other dark elves.I have much respect for your skills and the One you serve, but now I must fight you.Know that I take no pleasure in this battle, regardless of your heritage."
Then, with a quickness disguised by his large frame,Valdor strikes...(77 points)
Valdor Thursday December 20th, 2001 1:20:54 PM
hit points left after Qualde's attack=52.
Valdor Thursday December 20th, 2001 2:07:25 PM
After his devastating attack, he takes a step back, not disengaging, but enough to assess his damage, and says, "I ask you to withdraw fair priestess. As with Cantos, you are an able fighter but should not be asked to die for a sporting event." He has his guard up, just in case, but Qualde sees no malice or hatred upon his weathered face, simply concern.
Bill Troublefinder (AC 17, 25 hp) d20+5=24 d20+5=11 d8+2=8 d8+2=9 d20+1=2 Thursday December 20th, 2001 3:28:07 PM
Bill, seeing Gareth giving him the eye, says, "Well, I hit you with somethin'. Suppose it's only fair to let you hit me." The 3'6" fellow cheerfully steps up and swings his short sword for subdual damage, and manages to turn a threat into a critical hit (can you do a critical hit on subdual damage? -if not, ignore 2nd damage roll), doing 6 + 7 = 13 hp subdual damage on Gareth [note - should have rolled d6+2, not d8+2], hitting him on the inner right thigh with a resounding slap, where his sword somehow manages to stick to the goo.
(With Bill's height, compared to Gareth's, I figured he'd be hitting him in the legs or lower torso. Rolled a save to see if the flat of the weapon happened to touch the contents of the tanglefoot bag. Natural 1.)
Bill tries to pull the sword loose, but it's stuck fast where it slapped so solidly. Bill steps back, drawing a dagger to defend himself.
"Just don't kill me, okay?" he asks in a voice that sounds politely worried, as he prepares to receive Gareth's answer. Then he starts giggling as he sees his sword flapping back and forth in its current ... position.
The reaction the giggling may provoke will likely not bode well for the little fellow.
Bill Troublefinder Thursday December 20th, 2001 8:29:03 PM
[When Bill 'steps back,' he is not disengaging.]
Syr (AC 18 HP 44) d20+9=16 d20+7=21 d20+4=17 d8+4=8 d8+4=5 d8+4=5 Friday December 21st, 2001 4:43:20 AM
Syr does a remarkable impression of a person playing dead as Gareth kills him. With a final "Why can't I pick on someone my own size?" he falls to the ground.
(OOC: IF he got his attacks off Gareth takes 18 pts of damage)
he gets the attack off
DM JK Friday December 21st, 2001 9:40:44 AM
Syr gets his attacks off on Gareth before crumpling to the ground. Myriddan finds that the antimagic field works pretty well, and he doesn't have much luck with the wind. The clerics tap Cantos and Qualde and whisper to each, "If he hits you like that again, we might not be able to heal you. You fought bravely, but your fight is done." Zeoll's version of events is correct. Tericus will need to see if the tanglefoot bag hits him and react accordingly.
Mitchum runs the announcement, "So we're down to Valdor on Myriddan, Bill on Gareth, and Tericus on Zeoll!"
round 4 begins.
Zeoll (Taur Isles) AC 17, 6 hp d20+2=19 d8+1=4 Friday December 21st, 2001 11:10:24 AM OPTION A: If Tericus was hit by the tanglefoot bag, missed his save, and is stuck fast: Then Zeoll uses his long spear to attack from ten feet away -- out of reach of that deadly mace!
OPTION B: If Tericus was hit by the tanglefoot bag, makes his save, and is moving at half speed, or if the tanglefoot bag misses: Then Zeoll hurls his second (and last) tanglefoot bag in a desperate attempt to entangle and pin down this deadly opponent.
Zeoll's attack roll hits AC19! That's a hit whether with spear or tanglefoot bag!
If Option A, then the pinned Tericus takes another four points of damage.
If Option B, then the mobile Tericus must make a reflex save vs. DC 15 or be stuck to the floor -- just out of reach of the singing liontaur.
As he battles, Zeoll's voice continues, in better shape than his crushed body: I'll tangle you and keep you stuck, At least, I'll try, with any luck! And if I fall, then thanks for all The glory of a fight with pluck!

Valdor (AC 14, HP 52) d20+8=28 Friday December 21st, 2001 11:42:14 AM
Valdor breathes a sigh of relief for his damaged opponents. Leaning in close to them, he says, "I'm honored to have your group in the Dragon Consortium. You have proven that it is an honor well-placed and deserved. If you ever need my assistance or that of The Gold Dragons, just call. I'll be there for you."
He then turns slowly to face Myrridan. He straightens his back to stand to his full height(6'2"). He extends his arms out to his sides, then over his head to stretch and flex the fatigue from his muscles. Muscles pop out everywhere and he is easily the largest half-elf you've ever seen (240 lbs). He begins twirling his swords and slowly advances on Myrridan, with a look in his eyes that belie his good nature. Myrridan can't suppress a shudder as Valdor advances (intimidate rolled nat 20).....
Valdor d20+25=38 d12+10=18 d8+10=18 Friday December 21st, 2001 12:00:51 PM
In a blur, Valdor is on the large, painted opponent in a fraction of a second. (not sure if Myrridan is large or medium-doesn't matter on this attack as damage rolled is the same, but need to know for next round)
[question: he can move 10 feet and get 1 attack, correct?]
yes -jk
Flat-top ( AC 25 - HP 52 ) Friday December 21st, 2001 12:33:27 PM
This Centaur come in and trots to Michum,"My name is Flat-top, I am looking for Uteve and Zaoll the Wemic. Can you direct me to them, I hope I'm not too late." As you look this Centaur over. He is tall (8' 6") with piebald hide; dark-skinned; white spots/hair/mane/tail; and ice blue eyes. He wears a half-plate mail, around his neck is a Flail (with heart shape tips) and a large shield.

The warrior smiles at the diminutive figure. "I could never kill a friend. But you entered and I'm not about to let a chance like this go by...". He attacks the halfling using the flats of his blades and the hilt of his swords and subdues him - not wanting to damage him to badly. NOTE: The warrior stops once he's down - not additional damage is done.
The warrior sheathes his short sword and hefts his bastard sword with both hands - knowing he only gets one shot at what comes next...

(OOC: Hate to be a Rule Monger...To use the Intimidation skill requires a standard action or a full round action and you cant attack in the same round. Im already intimidated as a player!!!! So I will assume you are just attacking. Oh and by the way, Im a medium sized human who is 6 foot 6.)

Gareth's first (two?) blow(s) manage(s) to knock the halfling down. He lies face up, looking into the clouds above. They are spinning pretty fast, he thinks, just before a delayed wash of pain renders his vision dark.
Valdor Friday December 21st, 2001 2:07:24 PM
Realizing he's spent too much time to attack,Valdor simply stares at Myrridan, sizing up his opponent.
(I'm glad you are making me aware of it.Since he did the Intimidate first,he'll stick to that. It's one of his best skills)

AHHHH! Myrridan shrugs from the blow. With a nerviousness of being with a foe far greater than himself, Myrridan says, "You are a great fighter, instead of dying by your hand, I would like to fight along your side someday." Myrridan smile turns serious as he answers his attack.
Myrridan then quickly steps back 5 feet.
(OCC: All three hit: 19, 27crit, 16. Rolled a 26 on the threat. Total damage on Valdor: 31)
Myrridan Friday December 21st, 2001 2:14:32 PM
(JK, need to determine what happens to Valdors Intimidation. I posted my attack the same time Valdor sent his last message.)
no intimidation, just the attack
Cantos Friday December 21st, 2001 7:44:37 PM
Cantos manages to crawl away from the melee and roll onto his back outside the ring. "Sheesh he hits hard..and fast too remind me to not get near him without spells up." After the clerics heal him up Cantos cheers on Gareth.
Qualde (AC 17, 14 hp) Saturday December 22nd, 2001 10:37:56 AM
The priestess grins fiercely in response to Valdor's speech. "Like any other, my people have good among the bad. Is joy to me to spar with one so skilled," she husks, waving an absent acknowledgement to the clerics. "I thank for test my mettle this day."
Qualde shoulders her morningstar and helps Cantos out of the way of the fighting.
Tericus(ac17, hps 76) d20+4=24 d20+4=21 d20+7=11 d20+2=9 Sunday December 23rd, 2001 12:58:19 PM
Though he was hit by both tanglebags, Tericus manages to avoid the worst of the effects and manages to move at Zeoll and attack twice, but both his attacks miss due to the tangled webs covering his arms. "Where did you get those things?" Tericus asks the wemic.
DMJK Monday December 24th, 2001 9:29:05 AM
Mitchum turns to Flattop, "As you see, the wemic is there battling Sir Tericus. I have no idea about this Uteva person. I suppose you are inquiring about the Team Event? It will begin after the spellcasting and ranged events. So you have plenty of time."
He turns back to announcing, "Gareth puts Bill down, and Bill doesn't even try for a counterblow. Now it's Valdor on Myriddan and Zeoll on Tericus. Gareth's a free agent. Will he rest or double up on someone?"
[I probably won't be able to post xmas day, but feel free to wrap these fights up. Just make sure that everyone posts before you post again. We'll pick back up Wed. at any rate.]
Myrridan the Wild (AC 17, HP37) Monday December 24th, 2001 10:47:56 AM
Myrridan the Wild looks upon Valdor's bloodied and bruised body. He's having a hard time keeping a steady foot much like himself. Myrridan knows he can't take another strike from Valdor, and he also knows by the extent of Valdor's wounds that he would fall as well.
Myrridan drops the sickle from his off hand and holds it out to Valdor. "You are a great warrior, the best I have ever seen and had the pleasure to fight against," he continues, "There is no need for us to be carried from this bloodied field. We should walk off the field together as brothers on our own two feet."
Myrridan waits for Valdor's response.
(OOC: Readying an action. If Valdor attacks, Myrridan will also attack. If not, Myrridan will shake his hand and walk off the field with Valdor.)
Valdor d20=18 d20+2=4 Tuesday December 25th, 2001 1:07:13 AM
The tension quickly eases from Valdor's stance,an immediate calm crossing his face. One second, there was a terrifying calm look promising death in his eyes, the very next the look was complete calm promising the opposite. After a couple of heartbeats go by,a dazzling smile appears, showing all of his pearly whites.
He steps back(and away from Gareth)5 feet, and bows low to his opponent."Well,my friend,"he states,"I could not possibly attack you after such a gracious compliment as that. However,I cannot leave the battlefield with you until it's resolved or declared a draw.I will not attack you again, you have my word, but I could not possibly leave Gareth to take all the glory."
Then to everyone left,"There can be no individual winner here today. We are all hurt and can be taken out by anyone left.I suggest we all retire to the Red Dragon Inn for a few rounds of drinks, instead of damaging each other further.Everyone who fought here today fought bravely, and I am proud to fight with such brave souls.I've fought REAL dragons who took flight when they were going to die,but you all stood like heroes are supposed to.There are no losers and all here are winners, but there is no need to continue this.By the way,if we stop now,I'm buying the drinks, even though Gareth will probably drain my life savings."(cha=18+2 mod=20)He chuckles heartily, sticks his swords into the sand, and waits for the others to do likewise. He seems to be looking Gareth's way after his speech, waiting for the leader of the Storm Dragons to make a decision. He can't seem to tell if Gareth is as hurt as he is or not(spot chk=4).
Tericus Tuesday December 25th, 2001 8:23:59 AM
Hearing Valdor's words, Tericus says, "I'm with you Valdor, I really didn't want to fight in the first place anyway." Then he turns to Zeoll. "Can you help me get this gooey stuff off of me?"
Zeoll (Taur Isles) AC 17, 6 hp Tuesday December 25th, 2001 8:50:03 AM
Zeoll listens to Tericus's friendly words. He looks down at the grievous wounds on his own badly battered body, then at the small cut he managed to put on Tericus.
He looks again: almost dead -- slightly scratched. Hmmm.
"Why, yes, good frriend," Zeoll says, ending his song of battle. "Let me help you with that." And he does.
Gareth (AC 10, HP 26) Tuesday December 25th, 2001 11:27:30 AM
The warrior stands ready a moment, not really wanting to stop since there is not yet a winner - but unwilling to close and attack anyone who has lowered their guard in such a competition as this. Seeing the state of everyone involved though he simply shrugs his shoulders. "I would say that the winner would be determined by whomever attacked and was hit first. Looks to me that Tericus would probably win the day if it were taken to it's conclusion. And if it came to be between us, I would not attack him - even in jest. In fact I would stand still as he beat me to death before raising my hand aginst him! But as you say this is a friendly competition. I have no heart to attack my friends and allies any more. I would much prefer to attempt to drain your life savings at the Inn!". With a smile on his face, the warrior salutes the others in the traditional salute of a knight (i.e. sword brought point up, hilt in front of his chest), and sheathes his sword. He offers his hand in friendship to and who will take it and offers help to any who need it.
Valdor Tuesday December 25th, 2001 3:56:08 PM
The large warrior stands still a moment longer, looking around to make sure no one is left laying on the ground and overlooked that might be hurt or worse. If there is anyone, he will carry them out, if not, he returns Gareth's gesture, then sheathes his swords in one final dance of blades. He leans in close, "You realize, that's the first time I've actually had the pleasure to see you fight. The last time I saw you, you were in the bottom of a pit, while Jus, Nonam, Tericus and I were fighting fire giants and a red dragon. You've obviously come a long way, my friend."
Valdor turns, puts a large arm around Myrridan's shoulders and says as they exit, "You are positively the largest druid I've ever seen. Let's have a drink!"
Zeoll Tuesday December 25th, 2001 6:42:22 PM
"Hey, good Valdorr!" Zeoll the liontaur says, "Surrely you jest! In any dimension, I am the masterr of noble Myrrridan, herre!"
The wemic rises to his full seven feet of height, ten-plus-tail feet of length, and 750 pounds of mass. "I am a drruid, you know," he laughs, "as well as a barrd and a rrangerr!"
Bill Troublefinder d20+3=20 Wednesday December 26th, 2001 1:55:36 AM
As the warriors stand around conversing, Bill comes to. [Stabilize self check vs. DC 15: DC 20. Also subdual damage begins to mitigate.] At first he just lies on his side, propping his head up with his hand, watching and listening. Finally, he gets up, and dusts himself off.
"That tanglefoot bag goo'll start to crumble off you in a few minutes," he tells Tericus, and Gareth. He asks the latter, "Can I get my sword back, Gareth, sir?"
He looks up at the much larger warriors who surround him. "Anybody for pie?" Bill accompanies his fellow combatants to -- wherever they're going! He exchanges introductions with people he has not yet met, and in turn makes sure those he knows meet others he knows.
Along the way, or perhaps at the tavern, he takes the time to ask each of his fellow combatants what they remember happening and seeing at the time of Domi's death. "I'm just trying to piece together what happened there. I've heard reports of healings, and lots of undead, and crazed clerics and paladins of Domi. But - right at the time - and just afterwards - what did you hear, see, feel?" In particular he asks members of the two dragon groups represented here. To reciprocate Bill passes on his description of events at the Golden Arena when the high priestess of Karinthis re-introduced worship of the Cult Gods, and of the One; how Marteaus was called forth by the Sons of Dread; and tells of the Soul Sucker (as he terms the machine from Ravenloft) that the Dark Lord used; and of how Marteaus cheated and lied to Domi. He concludes by describing the arrival of the various cult gods, and their attacks upon the fleeing crowds. He mentions, too, the little elf girl through whom Domi channeled his enormous healing power.
DMJK Wednesday December 26th, 2001 9:05:48 AM
Mitchum cries out happily, "The Victors walk from the field!" The crowd boos.
Next up: the magic contest. I believe the contestants are: all of the storm dragons, Myrridan, and Bill. (I'm away from home, so I'm sorry if I forgot anyone. Just let me know, and you're in.)
Mitchum waits for the melee field to clear. Then a few workers begin to turn some cranks and gears and change the shape of the field...
The magic contest will begin tomorrow. Rules will be given then.
(DEH email me at jkfrankl@graceland.edu. I don't have you e-address on my laptop.)
Zeoll Wednesday December 26th, 2001 12:27:26 PM
Glad to have remained on his feet the whole time, Zeoll bows and offers his farewells.
"I'm an even worrse spell casterr than a fighterr! So I'll bid you all good luck and adieu!"
Gareth Wednesday December 26th, 2001 12:40:40 PM
The warrior smiles at Valdor's compliment. "And it was a pleasure to see you fight. Your reputation is rightly earned!".
After the announcements, he stands confused a minute. "Why would I be entered in a spell casting event? I'm worse at spell casting than mages are at fighting!". The warrior walks along to the end and does his best to put a substantial dent in Valdor's pocketbook as he speaks to the others about all the events that have gone on in the past several months - to include their inclusion and the dragon consortium and the apparent exclusion of all the others. When there is time, the warrior asks Valdor privately if there is anything they can say to each other about the intrigue in all this stuff
Qualde Wednesday December 26th, 2001 1:37:43 PM
Qualde accompanies the rest, and buys Valdor a drink for his honourable behaviour on the field.
Myrridan the Wild Wednesday December 26th, 2001 2:24:08 PM
Myrridan finishes his third pint. "Ahhh, the drink is good...not going to feel this good in the morning though," Myrridan burped.
Myrridan searches through is pack and pulls out individually bound doses of a fragrant herb. "I'd chew on this in the morning if I were you," and he passes one to each warrior. "It will help you deal with the spins, not to mention the after-pains of battle," says Myrridan with a smile.
"Now did the small one named Bill say something about pie?"
Bill Troublefinder Wednesday December 26th, 2001 5:01:41 PM
"Yes, pie!" Bill answers Myrridan. "Like boisenberry, blackberry, blueberry (cobbler, crumble, grunt or tart), bumbleberry, buttermilk, cranberry, elderberry, gooseberry, huckleberry, raspberry, strawberry, salmonberry, striperberry, currant, shepherd's, beef pot, mincemeat, almond cherry, apple cinnamon, apple pear, apple walnut, black bottom, cherry peach cobbler, impossible, pumpkin, raisin, caramelized pear, key lime, lemon chiffon, lemon custard, lemon meringue, nectarine, orange yoghurt pecan, peach cobbler, rhubarb, triple-tier chocolate, leftover turkey, spinach, Garmor's cheese, watermelon, zucchini pie! But I think blueberry is my favorite. What's your favorite, Myrridan? How 'bout you, Qualde?"

Before Zeoll departs, Valdor bows deeply saying, "I stand corrected, mountainous one. I had no idea that one of your size, or kind for that matter, would be a druid. I have never before, from Ravenloft to Myth Drannor to the Astral Plane ever encountered your species, so please forgive me. Myrridan, as I was saying, you are the second largest druid I've ever seen before..."
As they drink and visit, Valdor explains to those who are present, "We had just defeated the lich dragon Flame, when the most unnerving thing in my life happened. A titan sized man appeared on the battlefield in the lost Valley of Yore, I believe it was called, and seemed to be looking for something. He looked very tired and beat up, yet very familiar to me, but I couldn't place it. The valley was filled with huge bones, of dragon and huge men. After he found the largest warhammer I'd ever laid eyes on, he approached us. I half expected another battle, but there was no malice on his visage, only weariness. He spoke to us briefly about being tired, so tired to be exact. He said it was time to rest and he laid down at my very feet. It was then when I realized that it was indeed Domi and that he had died. It shook me as nothing in the Wold could have. For the first time that I can remember, I was scared. Had I not witnessed it as did the other Gold Dragons, I would not have believed it. But any who know me, know that I would prefer my sword arm to be cut off as to tell a lie, like that anyway. So Bill, that's my story. Not a pretty picture, but he died with dignity and honor. I, and hopefully my party, will face Marteaus, even though it will mean my death. Domi must be avenged and with all the Gods as my witness, I will not stop until it's done."

"Valdor, I can become whatever size I need to be," ... "I can become 12 feet tall as the tallest brown bear or small enough to fit in your hand as a mouse," Myrridan concludes with a chuckle.
"It's a surprise to me that the Gods are subject to the same forces of nature and mortality. Are not the Gods immortal?" "This has perplexed me to no end," he muttered, "I too have seen gods fall before the might of others. Those images in my mind still haunt me!"
