The Voyage of the Merry Mermaid

DM Carl: And They're Off!
Wednesday February 27th, 2002 12:15:00 PM

The Chosen manhandle the Heart down to the quayside. This is much harder than it seems, as the Heart is only a foot in diameter, but weighs an astonishing amount. Kenisha, Kalon and Roarr can just about carry it, but it is a very awkward size and shape to carry.

Meanwhile Zeoll serenades the Keep (which causes Neima to burst into renewed floods of tears) and the village (which provokes a polite but very halfhearted clapping.

Greetings are made, and after brief discussion the captain cheerily bids you all board his ship. "Come on, one and all! Plateau City bound we be!"

Some of his crew don't seem to fully share his enthusiasm, judging by some of the looks you are getting, but Captain Parsons seems oblivious.

As they climb the gangplank Parsons whispers to Flat Top "Weddings? Well, it's unusual, but yeah, I can do 'em, law of the sea an' all that. Who is it ya wanna marry?"

The gangplank is hauled up, and as Brahmah shows the stone button emblazoned with the symbol of Domi's twin swords, the lines are brought in and the ship begins to get underway.

Ilsa the human cleric arrives at the quayside, out of breath, and calls out to you as the ship moves away; "Chosen! I have sent a message to Plateau City! The High Priest will know of your quest when you arrive, and will help you! I have asked for a guide to be sent to meet you at the quayside! God speed, and may Alemi's blessing go with you!"

And with that you are off and out to sea!

Kale
Wednesday February 27th, 2002 5:42:13 PM

A little ticked off that the captain didn't answer his question, Kale goes over to Flat-Top and asks, "Why is it that every minotaur in this group is ugly? I have my scars that I hide with my robe, Raorr is no picnic, and now there's this guy. I guess we weren't meant to be beauty queens." Then Kale puts his hand against his face and wonders how his life might have turned out if he wasn't purposely scarred and tattoed those long nights ago.

Flat-top
Wednesday February 27th, 2002 6:53:43 PM

Flat-top Just stand there and gives this Minotaur (Brahmah) the once over. As only a fighter (sizing up an opponent) can do. With arms cross on his chest, "Taur, my name is Flat-top and was a marine Sailing Royal Guard before being called. And yes that coin is the mark of Domi, And yes you are one of the Chosen. I welcome you by our side." Flat-top extends his hand in welcome."

Flat-top turns his head towards Kale, and ask "Tell me Kale? Why is it that You Minotaurs always have this chip on their shoulders when we first meet?" Then looking Kale strait in the eyes and ask, "What scars?"

Kenisha
Wednesday February 27th, 2002 11:27:59 PM

Kenisha sighs with relief as she, Kalon and Roarr put down the Heart on the deck. "That's heavier than it looks! We definitely have to get an ark or something made for it."

She looks at the Minotaur as he and Flat-top converse and heads over there. "Hello, fellow taur. I am Kenisha, leader of the Chosen. May I see that stone?"

She looks it over then hands it back. "A year or so back you said is when you found it? Did you have a dream right before you found it?"

Brahmah  d20+4=23
Thursday February 28th, 2002 1:50:49 AM

Brahmah looks at the female centaur called Kenisha with awe and some amusement, smiles and kneels to one knee. "I am honored to serve the Chosen. We are blessed to have a Centaur as leader, they are great warriors. The females are voracious archers, I hear."

Standing, Brahmah looks at Flat-top and shrugs. "A marine! I'm a sailor myself, Taur! Perhaps we can spar when we have time?! I'd like to hone my skills!" Brahmah extends his hand, taking Flat-top's and begins to tighten the grip in challenge. :) (Strength Check of 23)

Brahmah simply looks at Kale and nods in greeting. "Maybe we can compare scars later?!"

Kalon the Wemic
Thursday February 28th, 2002 2:16:34 AM

Kalon extends his hand toward the new minotaur. "I am Kalon," he says simply.

Zeoll
Thursday February 28th, 2002 6:42:02 AM

Zeoll makes it his duty to stand guard over the Heart. He also keeps his eyes open for a sea bid, such as a gull, albatross, or puffin. If he sees one, he will cast his animal friendship spell on it.

Leets
Thursday February 28th, 2002 9:38:54 AM

A young blond-haired (and maned) centaur, white coated, greets Brahmah too.

"Hello Brahmah, and if I understand well, welcome among us! I'm Leets from the Talric tribe, son of Stallion Cyrus and of paladin mare Rowena. I'm paladin of the gathered gods myself, and glad to work with another of our minotaur brothers."

Ceira Karwyn
Thursday February 28th, 2002 9:59:49 AM

"Oh!" exclaims Ceira as she sees the mark of Domi on the stone. "I had no idea. Please accept my humble apologies. It is good to know that Domi's Chosen has grown by an extra number. There are strength in numbers you know." she pauses to evaluate the bulk of Brahmah's muscles. "And like all other minotaurs, it seems to show."

DM Carl: The Voyage Begins  d100=52
Thursday February 28th, 2002 11:23:43 AM

The captain shouts out orders to his crew, who unfurl sails, lash down barrels, swab decks and generally look busy. Once things are operating to his satisfaction the captain turns to Kale and says "Now what was it you were askin'? How long to Plateau City? Well, that all depends, see? With best winds I'd say a week, if the weather's against us could be much longer. Have no worries, friend, the Merry Mermaid is a speedy vessel, and we'll get you to your destination as quick as we can."

A young crewman, a cabin boy, coughs politely as he overhears Kenisha's words. "Um excuse me mam? If you're wanting to make something to carry your big rock, Blimpy's the man to see. He's the ship's carpenter, he should be able to help you. That's him over there." He points out a rotund, genial looking fellow hauling on a line and sweating profusely. The cabin boy waves shyly at Zeoll. "Hello sir! Remember me? It's Beck'n, we met last time you were aboard."

As Brahmah takes the stone button back from Kenisha something odd happens. It seems to fly out of his grip, and attatch itself to the chain shirt on his chest! There is a deep, subsonic thrumming feeling, and the button seems to meld with the armour, until it is completely gone. The armour has subtly changed; it seems stronger, slightly lighter, and looks improved somehow. It now has the crossed sword symbol emblazoned on the chest (OOC: Jay, you now have a +1 chain shirt. Congratulations!)

Zeoll keeps an eye on the seabirds overhead, but none come close enough to the ship to be affected by his magic. Perhaps when they get further out to sea birds will be more likely to perch on the masts.

The wind is fresh, the sky is blue, and all feels right with the Wold.

Kenisha
Friday March 1st, 2002 12:45:23 AM

Smiling at Brahmah, Kenisha says, "Well dream or not, it does seem as though you are indeed one of the Chosen. Welcome."

Raorr
Friday March 1st, 2002 2:32:30 AM

Raorr watches Brahmah and thinks "Great two new memebers, at least theres only one mouth to feed"

Raorr apperently did not hear Kael's commetn as he looks down at the heart on the deck of the bridge. "Captain can you arrange for some restarints for the Heart of Imod, we need it secured during transport."

Upon hearing Beck'n's name Raorr approaches Kalon and lightly elbows him pointing to the cabinboy "Hey the lad's name is Beck'n; what you wnat to bet his parent's had a sense of humour and named his twin Call? Get it Cabinboys named Beck'n, Call?" Raorr chuckles, finally relaxing has his journey finally seems to be going somehwere.

Flat-Top
Friday March 1st, 2002 3:51:42 AM

"Well, Look it here? Raorr with a sense of humor." Smiles Flat-top (but on his guard) then turn to Kale and Brahmah, "He's our Barbarian and he grows on you, come let tend to the Heart." And Flat-top will guard the heart to where ever it goes.

Then hope to himself that he does not get sea sick like the last time.

Brahmah
Friday March 1st, 2002 5:41:54 AM

"Please forgive any harsh words I had, the last time I met people this quickly on the docks, I was almost killed. Of course it took dozens of pirates to drop me on my back!" Brahmah begins to laugh as he rubs the back of his neck.

Smiling back at Kenisha, he looks down at his chest with his 'new' armor emblazened with Domi's symbol. he begins to shine it up a bit. "Well, it does look like I'm Chosen."

He smiles wide. "It seems with all this talk, we do have an Honor ahead, to guard this... Heart is it. What is the Heart? Plateau City, what is this?" The newly christened Chosen walks over to the Heart and just begins to stare at it.

Zeoll
Friday March 1st, 2002 6:34:24 AM

The liontaur druid keeps his eyes open, resolved to enchant a sea bird and gain a friend. It seems to him, as the Chosen sail on a human ship to human lands, that a set of aerial eyes will come in handy.

Zeoll greets Beck'n and Cap'n Pars'ns. "I rrememberr yourr frriendliness to me, Elwood," he says to Beck'n, "and I am glad to meet you again."

After an hour or so, Zeoll makes his way to each of the Chosen and warns them, whispering in Taur or wemic, where no crewmember can hear:

Watch out forr the one called Bucko. My memorry is scatterred, but I seem to rrecall that he and his cohorrts thrrew me overrboard the last time I was on this ship.

[OOC: Carl, what language does the crew speak? Hey Chosen -- do all of us speak common?]

Kale
Friday March 1st, 2002 9:16:20 AM

"The ones all over my face and arms." Kale says to Flat-Top. "You think I wear this robe because its confortable? You and the others have seen them before, im surprised you forgot." then he looks over the side and says "I wonder if you get sick over the side, will the fish eat it?"

Ceira Karwyn
Friday March 1st, 2002 10:00:44 AM

"Two weeks or longer???" exclaims Ceira. "Oh dear... Hmm... so how are your accomodations captain? Maybe I should just try to enjoy myself and treat this as a vacation cruise. After all the madness we've been through, I could use some rest and relaxation." Ceira tiptoes ever so carefully towards the edge of the ship as she peers down towards the water. Shuddering, she quickly scampers away and back towards the center of the ship

Ceira walks back to Brahmah, "So tell us about yourself. Especially aobut what happened to your tail. You don't have to of course but if you're willing to tell, then I'm willing to listen. And what brings you on board this ship?"

DM Carl: Ah, the idylic tranquility of it all...  d100=32 d100=16
Friday March 1st, 2002 12:17:30 PM

Introductions are made, stories swapped, and the Chosen begin to settle into the voyage. (OOC Please feel free to RP post as much as you like over the weekend to get up to date with introductions and background, as we're moving ahead a few days here, but need to get all the intro stuff done too; is no-one going to fill in the new recruit on what's going on? For shame! ;-)

The captain informs you that the ship simply isn't built to accomodate centaurs and wemics. The Chosen will have to spend the journey on the deck, although the captain does rig up a set of tarps to keep the wind and rain off (should they arise). The First Mate, a stern but efficient woman named Brand, sees to the securing of the Heart, and a regular guard is set on the Holy relic.

The much-maligned Bucko, subject of Zeoll's warnings, does not take long to make his presence known.

"Well well, if'n it ain't old furface hisself!" sneers the snide crewman, popping out of a hatch just as Zeoll offers one of his warnings. "Talkin' 'bout me were ye? I don't know too much o' yer freakish 'language', but I know me own name when I hear it, right enough. You'll be doin' well ta mind yeself, furface, if'n ye're wanting to stay aboard this time!" And with a nasty laugh he is gone.

The journey continues without great event for a couple more days. Blimpy the carpenter gets to work contructing a rig that allows either two or four people to carry the Heart, which is sure to make life much easier.

Zeoll, after waiting patiently for several days, is finally rewarded. You see a large bird plunge from a great hight directly into the sea, emerging with a struggling fish in its beak. It flaps cheerfuly over to the main mast, where it perches to enjoy its meal. By the pure white body, black wingtips and long beak you recognise it as a Gannet. It is well within Zeoll's range, and it notices him at once. Curious, it flaps down to the deck, where it stands looking at him with a small black beady eye. (OOC: Cayzle, you can find out more about your new feathered friend at http://www.petersononline.com/birds/month/noga/.)

The weather remains good, and there is an easy camaraderie in the air between human and Taur. Nothing, it seems, is going to disturb the peace on this pleasant voyage.

And then, out of the blue, a scream cuts through the tranquility. You look around in time to see something haul a crewman off the side of the ship, blood pumping from his flailing body. At almost the exact same moment another scream is heard behind you, and a crewman staggers towards you, clutching the bleeding stump of his right hand.

Behind him a huge snakelike head rises from the water, its mouth filled with rows of razor sharp teeth. It screeches a challenge, and moves rapidly towards you!

Brahmah  d20+10=30 d20+10=11 d4=2 d4=1
Saturday March 2nd, 2002 5:34:02 AM

As if out of sure reflex, Brahmah draws a Falchion from his left hip as he charges the beast. Totally disregarding the size of the creature, with no fear, he strikes out. (MAP OF THE SHIP?)

"Man overboard! Sea monster!" He yells.

Charging with his Falchion out, Brahmah strikes out at the serpent. A single attack. Critical Threat(natural 20) not confirmed (natural 1), Hitting AC 30 for 7 points of DMG (if I hit).

OOC:Using Dodge (for AC 22 versus the beast, -2 from the Charge his AC is 20). Attacking it for +10 (+8 bonus, +2 from the charge).

Zeoll
Saturday March 2nd, 2002 7:47:44 AM

BEFORE THE ATTACK

Zeoll puts on his Bard hat and tells the story of the Chosen to the newcomer. Cayzle's Digest of that Story: We were picked by Domi, god of war and bravery, called Imod by Minotaurs and Tomi by wemics, for a purpose: To unite the Taur races, who had been (until VERY recently) divided and at war. To that end we were tested, and at the end of the testing Domi healed His Sundered Heart, an artifact and symbol of power, so that it lived and beat again.

After Domi was killed by Marteus, the Heart turned to stone and stopped beating. We Chosen have decided to bring it to life again. We have talked about using the Beating Heart as a rallying banner to unite the Taurs, maybe into one army to take to the End and fight Marteus.

We have divine hints that we can do it. Our first step is to seek out a human prelate of Alemi, Domi's friend and chief of gods, to purify the Heart. That's where we are going now.

OOC: Do read up in the archives for more details -- or ask us!

Zeoll befriends the Gannet, and (hopefully) they get along famously. Zeoll begins to teach it the "Guard" trick.

THE ATTACK

If the snake thing is still in the water (at least partially), Zeoll casts an Entangle spell, hoping that there will be enough seaweeds and kelp in the area to affect it.

Flat-top
Saturday March 2nd, 2002 4:35:36 PM

Flat-top trots up to both Kale and Brahmah. Flat-top stands 8'6," weight about 1065 lbs. He has a piebald hide; Dark-skinned: white hair/mane/tail; with piercing ice-blue eyes.

Flat-top turns his head to Kale, "Kale, Yes I saw your scars when we first met. But since then we fought together your scars are no longer there. All I see now is one fine bull, in which I place my life in your fine fighting ability. You have no scars, Friend."

Flat-top turns to Brahmah, "Now my new Chosen Friend, we can pass the time away telling each other some fine lies. And I'm dying to hear the one about your missing tail?"

"OH! Oh! Look up! Trouble is a coming," Shouts Flat-top." Flat-top will take the +1 Morning Star from around his neck and will strike at the first opportunity.

Kalon the Wemic  d20+3=15
Sunday March 3rd, 2002 6:34:56 PM

Kalon seeing the warrirors crowding in at the apparent sea monster. He moves to where the handless crewman is trying to stop the bleeding.

OOC: Healing check 15 to stop the bleeding

Kenisha  d4+1=4 d4+1=3
Monday March 4th, 2002 2:36:00 AM

<ooc Before the attack>

Kenisha will spend some of the time with Brahmah answering any questions he has about the Chosen. The rest of the time she spends with Kalon.

<ooc after the serpent appears>

The centaress calls out, "Chosen! Let's give this watery snake a distaste for sailors shall we? Raorr! Flat-top! Brahmah! Close in and keeps its attention so the injured can get away! Ceira! Let's shove some magic down it's throat!"

With that she will cast Magic Missile at it. (For 7 HP from the two missiles.)

Leets
Monday March 4th, 2002 2:47:30 AM

"Wohoh! Brahmah it looks like we'll have to wait to talk a little bit more," says the young centaur paladin before drawing his longsword.

Leets prepares to charge the sea monster, but also sees the hurt crewmen. There seem to be enough people fighting the thing, and some need urgent help.

Finally, the paladin hurries to help the first crewman, and uses his lay on hand to heal him, and then tries to see what's happening with the monster.

Kale  d20+2=4
Monday March 4th, 2002 5:39:58 AM

Thinking about what Flat-Top said, Kale is a bit slow to react to the monster, but once he does, he moves to the Heart. "I'll protect the relic and cover you!" he yells to his friends as he draws his bow and lets loose an arrow at the serpent, but the wind catches it and sends it flying into the sea (AC of 4 I'm sure misses).

Raorr  d20+11=29 2d6(4+1)+10=15 2d6(2+4)+10=16
Monday March 4th, 2002 5:47:14 AM

Raorr follows Brahmah's lead and Kenisha's command and draws his Greatsword, the blue glows brightens as he charges forth towards the Serpentine creature.

"Kenisha asks for your death creature and I shall give her it, your teeth will make a fine necklace by night's end"

Trying to avoid the Serpents strikes Raorr swings with both hands leaving his sheild on his back. Not wishing to be outdone by a newcomer after seeing him hit already, Raorr calls to the fury of Imod and rages, allowing his beastial side run amok again.

___

Raorr Rages hitting AC 29 Damage is 31 (15+16)
(breakdown - 22 STR, 2 handed is +9 damage; +1 weapon; doubled for rhino hide)

AC is 15 (19 w/o shield, -2 from Charge, -2 rage)

DM Carl: We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat...  d100=15 d2=1 d20+9=19 2d8(5+6)+12=23 d20+9=13
Monday March 4th, 2002 1:06:34 PM

The two minotaurs race into battle, both connecting with powerful blows. The creature to the port side of the ship rears its head in rage, and screeches. Its breath stinks. The head and neck are long and snakelike, but what you can see of the body in the water is fatter, and seems to have flippers of some sort. It must be a good 50 feet long from tip to tail.

Kenisha's bolts of magical energy slams into it too, causing another screech of pain.

There is minimal vegetation or suitable material for Zeoll's spell to control, and the spell seems to have no discernable effect.

Kale's arrow lands in the sea.

The creature snaps back, yellow teeth sinking deep and painfully into Roarr's shoulder (23 HP dmg). (Dwayne, please make a Fort save.)

Kalon and Leets see to the wounded sailor (Laurent, how many HP are you curing?), who seems relieved that the bleeding has stopped, but in complete shock at the loss of one of his hands.

Flat Top prepares an attack but holds back (Ceil, I can't carry out your attack unless you roll it!), which proves fortunate. From behind him, on the starboard side of the ship, a second head (the one which dragged that first poor unfortunate sailor to his doom) rears up and lunges at him. The great stinking jaws snap shut just inches from his face, catching him instead with nothing but a blast of fetid air.

The sailors, for the most part, are running about in panic or hiding below decks. Why risk life and limb when you have Domi's Chosen Warriors aboard? Captain Parsons and the First Mate Brand are in evidence though; both stand on the poop deck, bellowing instructions to their men over the sounds of the battle.

Flat-top  d20+7=26 d20+7=25 d8+5=11 d8+5=11 d20+5=25 d20+5=15 d4+3=7 d4+3=5 d4+3=7
Monday March 4th, 2002 6:33:01 PM

OOC: Morning Star - critical hit 26 and 25? Damages - 11 and 11. Hooves attack 25 (critical)and 15 damage 7 & 5 & 7.

Flat-top guts told him to hold back just a few seconds, When the second head attacks Flat-top goes into action. Attacking the second head with full force into the face near the eyes, then rears letting the rest of the face have the taste of his hooves. "Come on, Fish face! I didn't ride the waves all those years for the joy of it... Want some more... Come and get me..." Flat-top will back up just a little, put up his shield and wait for just the right moment to go after him again.

Brahmah  d20+4=19 d20+4=20 d4=3 d4=2 d4=1 d4=2
Monday March 4th, 2002 11:17:44 PM

Brahmah draws his other Falchion and attacks two weapon style. Hitting AC's 19 and 20, for 5+4+3+4= 16 points of damage, striking the serpent's head near Roarr's wound.

"Beast! You're dumber than you look! These are the Chosen, go back to the depths from where you came or die!" Brahmah shouts, then begins to laugh maniacally.

Ceira Karwyn  d4+1=5 d4+1=2
Tuesday March 5th, 2002 12:29:01 AM

Although momentarily stunned from the emergence of the sea creature, Ceira recovers and begins recovering the words of Magic Missle in her head. She focuses on the two eyes of the beast and unleashes two Magic Missle from both of her hands. (5 dmg and 2 dmg)

Raorr  d20+10=17 d20+9=18 d20+4=13 2d6(4+3)+10=17 2d6(1+4)+3=8
Tuesday March 5th, 2002 12:31:29 AM

OOC: Raorr Save bonus is +10 (+5 from con, +3 from barb, +2 from fighter). Wounds taken 23 hp (of 49).
First attack (Greatsword)AC 18 for 17hp if hit; Second Attack (Horn) AC 13 for 8 if hit.
AC is now 17

IC:
Raorr snorts, "Betcha minotaur tastes good, huh Fish?" Raorr swings his Greatsword again at the now wounded creature, this time attempting to also gore the beast with his horns.

"Come on, try it again, betcha can't just have one," he challenges it holding his blade ready.

Kenisha  d4+1=3 d4+1=3
Tuesday March 5th, 2002 3:43:39 AM

Kenisha shakes her head at Raorr's joke, but she does smile. Then she lets loose with another Magic Missile at the beast. (for 6 HP of damage)

Kale  d20+5=23 d8+4=5
Tuesday March 5th, 2002 9:23:43 AM

seeing that Flat-Top is being attacked by himself and that no one is able to come to his aid, Kale drops his bow, draws his sword, and charges the fishy head, hitting AC23 for 5 pts of damage.

Leets  d20+5=9
Tuesday March 5th, 2002 10:05:38 AM

(Healing 9HP)

Leets glances at the second head that just appeared. He puts his hand on the wounded sailor's shoulder, and nods.

"Be brave! We are going to need you!"

Then he stands up, tighten his grip on his longsword and his shield, and comes by Flat-Top's side to attack the second head, yelling:

"How many monsters are there?!? Zeoll!!! What's that, do you know what's this thing?!?"

(Rolling a 9 to attack with the longsword...)

Zeoll  d20+4=7 d20+4=17 d4+3=7
Tuesday March 5th, 2002 11:17:56 AM

Zeoll attacks the new snake-thing, charging.

He hits AC 17 with one paw, doing 7 hp damage.

Zeoll's own AC (after a charge) is 13.

Assuming it is nothing Zeoll knows, he says, "It's nothing I know!"

DM Carl: One of our Dinosaurs is Missing  d20+5=20 d4=4 d20+9=28 2d8(2+4)+12=18
Tuesday March 5th, 2002 12:15:56 PM

The creatures (which are unfamiliar to you all, not being aficionados of sea serpents, aquatic dinosaurs and their ilk) don't look put off by the Chosen's retaliation.

Flat-Top unleahes a veritable storm of blows against the second creature (Ceil, your first hoof attack was a Crit threat. I rolled a second time for you, hitting, so it is a Crit. Remember, you always need to hit twice with an attack for it to be a successful Crit!), causing significant damage.

Brahmah's blow against the first aquatic monster is solid, but the creature just keeps on coming. At least it does until a combination of Roarr's blade and Ceira's magical blast of energy separate its head from its neck in a fountain of greenish ichor.

Kenisha, seeing that the first foe is down turns her attack instead on the second beast.

Kale, Leets and Zeoll dash in, and their combined attacks inflict further serious injury on the creature.

It is not dead yet, however. Bellowing in fury it lunges once more with disconcerting speed, plunging its yellow teeth into Leets' thigh (18 HP dmg: Laurent, make a Fortitude roll please).

The sailors are now all below decks save the captain and first mate. Each has a cutlass grasped firmly, keeping an eye out for any more of the monstrosities.

Flat-top  d20+7=22 d8+5=13
Tuesday March 5th, 2002 4:57:29 PM

Flat-top ask Leets,"Will the sailor be all right?". Then Leets get hurt from this Sea Monster. Flat-top will attack with his Morning Star((only)attact-22 damage-13), Hitting it in the jaw (hoping to break it). Then grabbing Leets and will call for someone to help Leets. "Hold on Leets, you'll be all right. HURRY! HE'S BLEEDING!"(Flat-top has his back to the battle)

Kalon the Wemic  d20+6=19 d20+4=13 d6+3=9
Tuesday March 5th, 2002 8:06:19 PM

Seeing Leets get bitten deeply by the monster, Kalon rushes forward, diving into a roll, attempting to avoid the great creature. Getting in close he strikes the creature with his hand.

OOC: Tumbled through the adjacent square without provoking an attack of opportunity (DC: 15). My roll to hit is 13 probably not a hit but rolled 9 points of damage.

Kenisha  d4+1=3 d4+1=5
Tuesday March 5th, 2002 8:56:02 PM

Kenisha looks at Leets with alarm. "Get out of there if you can, Leets. Raorr! How bad are you hurt? Zeoll see what you can do to help them."

She takes aim and fires off another Magic Missile spell at this second beast. (for 8 HP total)

Ceira Karwyn  d4+1=3 d4+1=5
Wednesday March 6th, 2002 12:11:47 AM

Ceira is momentarily sickened at the sight of the green-gurgling stump. With the sudden commotion around Leets, she redirects her focus towards the second head with a new round of Magic Missiles aimed at its neck (8 dmg).

Brahmah  d20+10=30 d20+10=12 d4=2 d4=1
Wednesday March 6th, 2002 1:58:21 AM

Brahmah watches the fountain of ichor from the creature after Roarrs attack and figuring it'll die soon enough, he Charges the creature that Flat-top has whacked nastily. With one of his Falchion out ready to strike the beast, with a single attack.

"Ha ha! Yah!" Brahmah shouts as his Falchion embeds itself into the sea serpent. Brahmah twirls his other Falchion readying to strike with it next chance he gets.

OOC: Hitting Crit threat for AC 30, not confirmed with an AC 12, 3+4=7 points of DMG.

Zeoll  d8+2=5

Hearing Kenisha's words, Zeoll does his best to help Leets.

If Leets is down or unconscious, Zeoll pulls him to safety (probably provoking an attack of opportunity) and then casts a (bardic) cure light wounds spell. (heals 5)

If Leets is still standing, Zeoll backs five feet away out of combat, but still next to Leets, and then casts the same spell. If the monster has a big reach (probable), then Zeoll still might provoke an attack of opportunity.

"OUCH!!!"

Leets' almost fall on the wooden board of the ship as the monster bites him. The viloent feeling of the dirty yellow teeth of the thing entering his own flesh makes him see little lights dancing around him.
In a last reflex (if he can, fortitude 17) to make the sea monster open its mouth, however, he lifts his sword high over his head, and makes it fall with all his strenth on the thing's neck (19 is critical with the longsword, converted with 17? - for 10 damage).
However, once he stabbed the monster, he falls on the ground, holding his bleeding leg and tries to stand up, limping.

after seeing everyone chop and zap the remaining monster to pieces, Kale moves the the side of the ship and scans the horizon for any more of the sea snakes(spot check of 7)

DM Carl: OK, Make That 2 of Our Dinosaurs...
Wednesday March 6th, 2002 12:49:03 PM

Flat Top does more than break the creature's jaw, he near rips it off. The hapless beast's head pretty much disintegrates from the storm of blows that rain down upon it as the Chosen get tough.

Kale races to the side of the ship to scan for more creatures, but sees nothing. Neither, it seems, do the Captain and First Mate.

Leets and Roarr are patched up and given what healing is available. The crisis is passed, and all is well again.

Or is it? Over the next few days, as Roarr and Leets are restored to full health, a change in the mood of the crew becomes apparent.

First off, the crewman who had his hand bitten off develops a nasty case of the shakes. Though Leets is easily able to cure the disease, it does nothing to quell the growing fears of the crewmen. Half overheard snatches of conversation make it plain the crew's attitude toward the Chosen has changed.

"Sea serpents, Bodger! How long we been doin' this 'ere run, an' ain't never seen no sea serpents? It's them lot, I'm tellin' ya..."

"It's bad luck havin' em aboard, you mark my words..."

The weather also takes a turn for the worse, and it is no doubt the increasing unease of the crew that leads to a series of small accidents aboard that do little to ease the tension.

It is with some relief that, after almost two weeks of travel, that the lookout eventually cries "Land Ho." The Merry Mermaid draws closer, and soon you can all see the welcome sight of South Harbor, dwarfed beneath the towering Plateaus that rise above it.

Flat-top
Wednesday March 6th, 2002 5:16:30 PM

After Flat-top helping Leets stay on his hooves, and have to be extra nice to Raorr.(We all know how Minotaurs are when they are hurt.) Flat-top trots over to Brakmah,"Nice work there, Sorry I quit a bit early, I had to keep Leets on his feet. When a Centaur is down and off his hooves, It usually means the Centaur is dying. Did you get hurt, OH! Yes,! Domi made a good choice in you."

Flat-top trots over to Kale, "I think we should keep a close eye on this crew, right now their spooked, anything can happen." The Chosen Ones swap tall tales for the rest of the journey. Then finally they see land.

Ceira Karwyn
Wednesday March 6th, 2002 8:35:15 PM

The groggy eyes of a sea-sickened liontaur face slowly open to the sound of the booming voice from the lookout post. Ceira's eyes light up as soon as she comprehends the words. She quickly gets up only to topple over again from the sudden dizzy spell. "Ugh... what a horrific ride on this boat! I... I..." Ceira quickly rushes to the railing and vomits up a greenish blend of last night's dinner and this morning's breakfast. "felines... don't mix well with water..." She slumps over the railing and passes out.

Kenisha
Wednesday March 6th, 2002 10:26:51 PM

Not liking the mood of the crew, Kenisha cautions the Chosen to be careful and not to antagonize them if at all possible.

For her she spends a bit of her time with the sailor (ooc I've gotten his name) who was good at carpentry. She asks him if he will make a carry all and if he does will help him if she can (ooc no real skills here just handing and fetching him whatever he needs).

The rest of the time she spends with Kalon.

Brahmah
Thursday March 7th, 2002 2:41:08 AM

Brahmah thanks Flat-top for his kind words, "...and Domi chose well in you my friend! You've got a might I respect and will Honor till death!" He smiles wide and claps Flat-top on the shoulder.
Then realizing the crew is beginning to look at the Chosen in another light.
Brahmah snarls and walks over to Kenisha, and whispers in her ear, "I think we'd better stay awake most of the night. I don't trust these humans. I've worked with many sailors in the past and if they think you own something valuable, they'll try to take with force. If we need to, I can help sail this ship if we have too." He looks around, then turns back to Kenisha, "I'm not the only Chosen that has worked on ships, right? If we need to, we can hold the crew below and sail to port with little problem." Brahmah says it with a certainty and arragance not seen in him before.

Still in her ear, he whispers again, "I believe if we have too, we can earn their respect. Besides, the way these humans ran like Silly Centaurs, the ship would have sank for sure!"

Then realizing that he said Silly Centaur, he looks back at Kenisha. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean insult you. Minotaurs call cowardice people Silly Centaurs. That saying will have to go when the Taurs rejoin again!" He smiles and bows slightly to her in Honor.

Zeoll and Gannet  d20+3=19 d20+3=4
Thursday March 7th, 2002 7:03:18 AM

"Well done, my fellow Chosen!" Zeoll exclaims at the end of the fight. The liontaur uses his healing magic to help out the injured. He also studies the corpses of the beasts in order to broaden his knowledge. Plus why let all that good meat go to waste! [OOC: Knowledge of Nature check = 19; Bardic Lore check = 4]

Zeoll shares Brahmah's worries, and he makes sure one or two taurs are awake at all times. He trains his new avian animal friend, Gannet, to stay on guard duty ("Guard" = squawk if a non-Chosen comes near; fly away and get Zeoll in the face of danger). He also tries to teach Gannet not to poop in inappropriate places! [OOC: Carl -- Gannets are cool! Can we work on Gannet's 3E stats? How many hit dice does he have? Stuff like that.]

Zeoll, who has been careful on board to eat very lightly indeed, helps Ceira with her sea-sickness. He casts Cure Light Wounds (can't hurt) and gives her a few mint leaves to chew after she rinses out her mouth. "The same thing happened to me when I took my firrst sea voyage," he tells her.

When the ship's destination is in sight, Zeoll prepares his spells for the day:

Level 0: Cure Minor Wounds x3
Level 1: Faerie Fire, Obscuring Mist

Zeoll asks the captain for directions to the temple they seek. He helps to carry the Heart. Gannet stays close to the Heart, guarding it and Zeoll.

Kale
Thursday March 7th, 2002 8:24:55 AM

"Good thing we hit land." Kale whispers to Flat-Top."Any more insults and I would of started slitting throats. Ill only take so much."

DM Carl: Blessed Terra Firma
Thursday March 7th, 2002 11:44:43 AM

The ship makes dock, and the Taurs disembark, thanking Captain Parsons. Though he has remained friendly throughout his crew come first, and he too seems glad the journey is over.

The arc built for the Heartstone is unloaded also, Blimpy carefuly pointing out where the stone goes, how to have it covered, uncovered, and secured, and how the apparatus can be carried by either two or four (OOC I'll email you folks a diagram of the arc).

As you look around trying to figure out what to do next a young man, an Acolyte of Alemi by his robes, rushes over, breathless and very excited.

"In the name of Grenult, High Priest of the Temple of Light, welcome to the Plateaus! May your stay with us be blessed with good fortune!" Says the young man very quickly, his words tumbling over each other in his eagerness.

"My name is Ludlow, and I am to be your guide on the journey up to Plateau City and the High Priest. I trust your journey was satisfactory? We recieved word from Patriarch Ilsa of your coming, and everything is in readiness." He realises he is babbling, clams up, then spots the Heartstone. "Ooh, is that it? Gosh! Can I touch it? Oh, no, sorry, of course not, silly me, ha ha!" The poor fellow is probably a bit out of his depth, and the strain of recieving such an important assignment is beggining to show.

"Well, Chosen ones, whenever you're ready we can be off. Be warned, it's quite a climb!"

(OOC: Our CDM Jerry will be covering the description of the journey up to Plateau City over the next few days, so enjoy!

And please be sure to post. Only six out of nine today; not good! Daily posts please folks. If you are unable to post for any reason please arrange for someone else to sub for you, or if it's a last minute thing contact me and let me know. Thank you!)

Flat-top
Thursday March 7th, 2002 5:06:56 PM

Flat-top takes a good look at this Arc. "Blimpy, your the finest carpenter. Very well made, fine quality and a very good job. Many thanks and heres a few gold coins for your trouble." Flat-top hand Blimpy 10 gp.
When a Guide named Ludlow. who will guide all of us to Plateau City. You could see he was very young and had rehearse the speech. But Flat-top just stand there and wonders "Was I ever that young once?"

Brahmah  d20-2=16
Thursday March 7th, 2002 5:47:11 PM

<<BEFORE MAKING PORT>>

Seeing land approach, Brahmah starts to gather his equipment, then reminds the Chosen to do the same.

<<AFTER MAKING PORT>>

Brahmah watches the display from the young acolyte and just shakes his massive head. Then he firmly walks up to the (human) acolyte and looks down at him, with VERY serious look on his face.

"FRIEND..." His voice booms, arms thrown in the air towards the sky like he's beggining a ritual of sorts (Perform Check of 16), "...we ARE the CHOSEN of Domi! We have come with the Heart!" Choking back a laugh, "Show me your creditials, prove to us your from the Temple of Light and ARE worthy to travel with the CHOSEN!"
Brahmah just stands, waiting for the young man to produce papers or some other proof their who they say they are. He doesn't really expect them to have documentation, but figures it might be fun to see their reaction.

OOC:I made a Perform Check expecting to do lousy but turns out he's not that bad in this performance, DC 16. Don't even have the skill, or Charisma for that matter. :)

Ceira Karwyn
Friday March 8th, 2002 1:34:51 AM

With Zeoll's CLW and the mints to chew on, she begins to slowly recover. "Thank you Zeoll. I don't know if I'll ever get used to these floating vessels."

Once on port she stomps around and paces back and forth while Ludlow is talking. When he is finished, Ceira eagerly steps forward, "I'm ready!"

Raorr
Friday March 8th, 2002 2:15:31 AM

Raorr looks confused "Alright what did the human say?"

Raorr listens to the tone of Brahman's voice and senses from the loud tone that something is wrong, Raorr draws his sheild and greatsword. In tauric he looks to Kenisha "What's going on Kenisha, Why is Brahman challenging them?"

Kenisha
Friday March 8th, 2002 3:47:44 AM

Kenisha tells Raorr in Tauric (and anyone else who doesn't speak Common) "He's Ludlow from the Temple of Light and has been sent to escort us to there."

To Brahmah (since I'm assuming he speaks Common to have understood the human) Kenisha kindly chides him in Common with, "Now friend Taur,we were told that a guide would be sent to meet us and since he knows the name of the one who told us about this temple, I am sure he is who he says he is." Kenish deliberately choses to say it in Common so as to reassure the poor human he isn't about to be gored to death.

And finally to Ludlow she smiles and extends her hand to him, "Greetings Ludlow. I am Kenisha, leader of the Chosen. I thank you for your assistance in guiding us on our holy quest." She introduces each of the Chosen and finishes with, "Some of our number do not speak the language of Humans, so pray excuse us if we pause to translate now and again."

She will then tell the others in Tauric exactly what she said to Ludlow.

Ludlow
Friday March 8th, 2002 5:18:34 AM

At Brahmah's terrifying display the young acolyte nearly faints dead away. Somehow he remains upright, though he has begun to sweat profusely. The poor man (really not much more than a boy) begins to proffer holy symbols, rings etc. He pats his robes, franticaly hunting for something that proves he is who he says he is. "Puh-puh-please sir, they didn't give me any letter or anything..." he gulps, gazing up at the mountain of muscle before him. When Roarr draws his weapon and steps purposefully forward, it is all the fellow can do to stop himself from turning and running in terror.

The relief that floods over him when Kenisha speaks is almost comical. He sags, and takes her hand, shaking it repeatedly in extreme gratitude. In fact he seems to be using it to keep himself upright, and doesn't let go for quite some time.

Zeoll and Gannet
Friday March 8th, 2002 7:04:42 AM

Zeoll says, "Good thinking, Flat-top." He says, "You'rre welcome" to Ceira as she begins to recover. Both comments are in Tauric.

Zeoll smiles at the teasing of the messenger, but his primary priority, in this land of non-Taurs, is to safeguard the Heart. He keeps a close eye on it and events all around. He volunteers to support one end of the Arc. Gannet rides on the Arc or on Zeoll -- he is also on guard duty.

[OOC: Carl, great sketch of the Arc! Thanks! Oh, and thanks for the Gannet stats -- they sound just fine to me!]

Kalon the Wemic
Friday March 8th, 2002 10:45:49 AM

Having been silent since the sea monster's demise he had spent most of his time with Kenisha. When alone he had stood near the bow seemingly trying to practice something. Now in port he still remains silent as he follows the Chosen keeping an eye out for trouble.

Raorr
Friday March 8th, 2002 3:14:42 PM

Raorr relaxes slightly, replacing the greatsword to its sheath. He speaks in Tauric, saying, "I can't believe how cowardly these humans are. We introduce ourselves, and this one nearly dies of a heart attack. Fragile bodies, weak souls. That's definitely human."

Welcome to South Harbor! (DM Jerry)
Friday March 8th, 2002 4:12:36 PM

Ludlow leads them off of the pier and a team of 5 dwarves approaches quickly. Their movement could be called nothing else other than a forced march, yet they are not out of breath.

"Honored travellers! Welcome to South Harbor! We would be honored to convey any baggage or cargo that you have brought with you to the location of your choice."

Ludlow tosses them a coin and says, "We are carrying all we need with us now. Thank you for your offer."

He turns from the dwarves and begins leading you through the large town rather quickly. Passing a multitude of inns, you begin to wonder if there is an inn on every corner in this strange land.

A tall thin tower stands to the west of town. An explosion rocks the tower and most of the town stops and stares at it as smoke billows out of a broken window near its top. A few moments later, a man wearing a long robe or dress leans out of the window, his face black as the night.

"I'm OK! I'm OK!"

Dishwater comes flying out of a second story window into a gutter. All the streets seem to have gutters on either side and all are filled with sewer water flowing down to the shore.

Little children play games. They carry small figurines of men with swords or wearing dresses with wands in their hands. Every few seconds one of them shouts, "I let loose with my Wand of Fireballs exploding the Evil Dark Lord into bits!"

Then they spot you and stare. Mouths open. Occasionally a watchful mother scoops youngsters inside giving you a hard look. A halfling boy grins a huge grin as his mom scoops him up. An elven girl smiles shyly peering from behind her rather large mom's day-dress.

However, other times, as you leave, you hear the youngsters say, "I gore the Dark Lord with my two horns!..."

Eventually you reach the edge of town and Ludlow says, "It is thought best that we push forward to Promprey to spend the night. It is half a day north of here.

The countryside is full of wondrous grains growing in the fullness of early spring. Farmers work the fields helped by their children.

The sun is bright, the people mostly friendly if hesitant to wave as you pass. Dwarves work next to Elves followed by Halflings and Gnomes doing the lower weeding. A Truly Cosmopolitan Culture.

"Anyone tired yet?" He grins.

Brahmah
Saturday March 9th, 2002 3:19:19 AM

Brahmah is really careful not to step on any children or gnomes while walking down the street.

"No. I'm not tired yet!"

Kale
Saturday March 9th, 2002 4:37:58 AM

Trying to control the urge to steal, Kale keeps his hands in his pockets and his hood over his face in order not to scare anyone.

Leets
Saturday March 9th, 2002 10:12:49 AM

Leet's mood is really darkened by his experience with the sea monster. He stays at the ship's rail for long hours, sometimes rubbing his now healed leg.

"It's the first time I get bitten by such a thing, that's an horrible experience...And...well...That's no good omen to my mind... I hope the journey will be happier tomorrow..."

Once the shore was reached, Leets seems to feel better, but spends some time with the wounded sailor to comfort him before leaving.

The city is the biggest Leets ever visited, and he looks amazed by everything he can see.
After a moment, when he get used to the surrounding unfamiliar atmosphere, he comes by Brahmah's side and ask:

"So tell me my new friend, were do you come from, and how did it happen that you finally joined us?"

Flat-top
Saturday March 9th, 2002 9:42:23 PM

Flat-top will get to the back of the ark and will be one taur out of four to carry the load. When the dwarves show up to help carry the Ark, he says, "No! Thank you. Only the Chosen handle this luggage." As Flat-top goes through the city.

Flat-top smiles as Brahmah answers the question of being tired. Might as well start the blood flowing in their veins. Flat-top smiles at the Minotaurs, "Centaurs never get tired! Do we Leets?"

Leets
Sunday March 10th, 2002 5:26:26 AM

"Sure we don't Flat-Top! Like all of the Chosens anyway!!! Moreover, were would we find time to be tired?"

Says Leets, winking at Brahmah.

"Is all ok with the arch behind? Does somebody wants to be replaced? Zeoll?"

"Kenisha, how many people can leave in such a place? Probably hundreds and hundreds, no? I wonder where they can find the food for so many people..."

Kenisha
Sunday March 10th, 2002 10:37:23 PM

Kenisha looks at Leets and says, "I suppose through fishing, hunting, farming. Farming would be the biggest means I would imagine. The country size surrounding the city is probably dotted with farming communities and such."

Kenisha smiles at Ludlow, "Taurs are a hardy breed. Lead on, unless you require a break?"

Ceira Karwyn
Monday March 11th, 2002 12:10:10 AM

Ceira gazes in awe at the multitude of humanoids roaming the streets. "So many..." she mutters in Tauric. "If it weren't for the fact that we Taurs are physically bigger, I admit that I'd be intimidated by this foreign land. I'll feel safe as long as we stay together."

"Look! Look!" Ceira points excitedly at the channeled sewer water. "Isn't that neat? I wonder whether my village could implement such a system."

Zeoll
Monday March 11th, 2002 12:47:23 AM

Zeoll tries to imagine what this land was like before so many two-leggers came here. He wonders about the plants and animals that used to be here.

"Yes, Cierra, these horrdes do teem, do they not?" He smells the sewage and cannot agree with her that such a system would be good back home. "It makes me sad, to think of the filth this place crreates. I hope we will neverr see the like in ourr homes. It is betterr to live lightly on the land, moving from place to place, not fouling it with one's wastes and crrowding out all otherr creaturres."

As he carries the arc, he manages the load easily, and has no need for relief.

"Let us prrogrress as fast as we can," Zeoll says to Ludlow.

Raorr agrees
Monday March 11th, 2002 3:13:49 AM

"This place is quite large I must agree, but not suitable to people of our stature. I can not believe the stench it's horrible, comarible to the zombie corpse we dealt with during the long night of darkness" Raorr says covering his nose.

"If this persists I believe there may be permanent damage to my senses" he jokes lightly

Kalon the Wemic
Monday March 11th, 2002 7:47:37 PM

Kalon walks along looking at the huge city around him. He feels the enorminity of the buildings and the mass of people closing in. He feels his longing to run across the open plains close in on him. Unable to understand how people could live in such confined areas. Yet his duty to Domi and the Chosen kept him trudging along.

Forward and Onward and upward? [DM Jerry]
Tuesday March 12th, 2002 9:04:41 PM

The trip to Promorey is joyful and quick. The cleric jogs to keep up and although he breaks out in a sweat seems to enjoy the run.

The fields expand for miles and miles as you travel them. Everywhere you look, farmers toil in the fields waving as you go past. The trip to Promorey is a bit of an ascent. But the mind blowing feature is how the first plateau begins to appear in front of you as you travel nearer to it. At first, it seems like tall unending mountain, then as you get nearer it looms seeming to touch the sky. Brownish orange rock reaching 5000 feet straight up and stretching from side to side for what seems forever.

Arriving quicker than planned, it is still mid- afternoon when you arrive.

Ludlow says, "I guess we could go ahead and ascend this afternoon. Nothing better than to see the sun setting while rising 5000 feet up to the first plateau."

He leads the way through Promorey a trade route town of about 6000 people. Large storage bins dominate the skyline of the town and the smell of fresh hay is everywhere. Many inns congregate on the western side of town to accomadate all those travelling from Plateau City to the Coast and vice-versa.

Heading out west of town, the road travels west and the sign says, "To Xardmouth", however, a road turning north says, "To the Lift."

There are several storage bins inside a stone walled overhand of the cliff. Four huge ropes, each about 5 feet in diameter, rise up the side of the cliff from a huge series of pulleys on the ground. A line has formed for the next lift. A ticket office is near the pulleys.

Ludlow says, "Feel free to look around. There are blindfolds and restraints for...mounts if you are afraid of heights. No offense intended to your honor goodbeings. It's.....very daunting your first time. I'll get us passes for the next lift. We have official clearance."

...And nothing was ever the same again... [DM Jerry]
Tuesday March 12th, 2002 9:06:48 PM

Suddenly--The Chosen seem to find their minds gripped with an echoey voice...one that sounds familiar--the kind of voice one might hear in a dream:

"He who has ears, let him hear the words of Valdor, formerly known as the Dragonslayer, now known as the Dragonstone.

"My brothers and sisters of the Wold, it has been given to me to contact all of you, and I have thought long and hard before sending you all this message. My companions, the Gold Dragons of Plateau City, and I have witnessed a great many things recently that led us to send this message. These words I speak, I speak with knowledge and understanding. I am sure that you all have seen and heard many unbelievable things over the last few weeks and months. I know of no other way to say this, so listen carefully. My known and unknown friends, war is coming! A terrible war against the most powerful of opponents. The one known as Marteaus gathers his armies now and is preparing to strike at all of our lands and homes. No where on this Wold is safe or beyond his reach. There is no hole deep enough nor a cave dark enough to hide from him. He has assembled an army of hideous creatures to attempt to wipe us all out at once. It is time to fight. We must fight for our lives, our families, our lands and our Gods. This evil will not go away if we turn a blind eye to it. We have witnessed the horrible things Marteaus has done and the abominations he creates. He must be stopped and his army must be destroyed. We will be outnumbered and many will lose their lives in the coming war. But if we do not start now and fight, we will all die, and everything we know will be ground under his heel into dust. So it is time to stand for what we know is right and good, and strike. We must strike at his temples and Caeroldra's and Ga'al's as well, since they are the ones behind all of this. Whether you use stealth or strength of arm, these temples must be destroyed. Do not fear angering a god, as they have begun something they should not have. When the war starts, each of you will have to kill at least 50 of the evil army to have a chance. For myself, well, I've been around a bit longer than most, so I'll aim for 100. Each of you must look to strengthen the defenses in your own town and country. You must have your people ready to fight to the death, if necessary. We must strike the temples now! If we can scatter their followers or at least disorganize them, it will delay their plans and make them alter their plan of action against us. I am no assassin, but I am charged with bringing together an army to defeat what I have seen. Do not be afraid, for we have 15 ancient dragons on our side and all of the Dragon groups of good as well. We must find alliances with all who would protect against the evil Marteaus has brought upon us. Seek the Dwarves, the elves, the halflings, the minotaurs and liontaurs. We must have an army to fight back and you are all the best in the land. We are the only hope in this dark time, but as long as one single candle is lit, the darkness will flee from it. When we face the Dark Lord, I will ask him how he thought he could possibly win with orcs and goblins fighting his battles for him. Stand up now for all of the Wold, for the love of our fellow good beings and all that is right and just. There will be great rewards for all who fight and survive this war! I will know of your deeds and will honor you in front of all who live. Some of you may earn the title of Dragon, others may earn valuable weapons and armor, but all will earn honor. When the time comes we must gather for the final battle, so be prepared. We know not when nor where, but be ready. We will win this fight, by all the good Gods, I know we will. I am Valdor the Dragonstone, and I will not accept any other end. Stand tall and proud and fight to win. It begins..."

Valdor's last words are barely a whisper, but all can feel his anger, but with no hate. And his pride is evident, but not necessarily in himself as much as with everyone he's relaying the message to. His words ring complete truth to any who can feel such things, and there was no hesitancy at all. It is spoken with complete authority, but also as a plea. Again you hear his last words, "It begins...."

Kalon the Wemic
Tuesday March 12th, 2002 11:18:37 PM

Kalon listens to the words finding them kind of obvious and more then a little vague.

"Just what are we supposed to get from that?" he mutters aloud

Brahmah
Wednesday March 13th, 2002 2:26:24 AM

"AFRAID! Of going up a little cliff?! How insulting! I'm a Minotaur and Chosen, I'm afraid of nothing." Brahmah says staring into Ludlow's eyes sharply.

Looking straight up the side of the mountain, Brahmahs expression goes from anger to that of near apprehension, then quickly reverts back to the gruff old Brahmah everyone knows and loves.

:::After hearing the words:::
Brahmah kneels, and looks up into the sky.
"I swear my life the Domi and the Chosen. By my Honor, I'll die for the Wold and Domi!"

"This Valdor, The Dragonstone, must be very powerful! I must meet him."

Raorr
Wednesday March 13th, 2002 2:29:54 AM

"50, is that it? How many do I have on my list so far Kalon? 60, 70? Lost track after the first few." Raorr chuckles

"I do hate when people speak in my head, I have enough voices there as it is I don't need another" He looks to the group, "Well if the war is on then let's get moving the longer the stone takes the less there'll be for us."

Leets
Wednesday March 13th, 2002 7:59:07 AM

"Beeing afraid! Are you kidding!!! The only thing I want is not to miss the most single sight of what can be seen from such a place! How close from the gods one must be once...well, there!"

When the mysterious voice is heard, Leets listen carefully, but somehow prepared to what is said: wasn't it the plan he once proposed?

"So comes finally time for war!" says the young centaur paladin seriously.

"This Valdor, does somebody among us know him? He talked of abomination serving Marteau...Am I the only one to think that the monster we encountered on the sea could be an evil servant of the Dark Lord?"

"Ludlow, are there such evil temples...upstairs?"

Kale
Wednesday March 13th, 2002 8:48:37 AM

"Ive heard of Valdor, but only in vauge tales. He's suppost to be a great hero. I guess he is if he can speak in our heads." Kale says. "Well, a power like that cant be ignored. Lets get to it."

Flat-top
Wednesday March 13th, 2002 10:39:31 AM

Flat-top looks up the cliff and the clouds hides the top. Then the Voice? the voice sounds so familiar. " Like in a dream I once had so long ago." Flat-top wonders about it, until Kale said that he had heard of Great Hero named Valdor. "You know of Valdor, Kale? You say he's a Great Hero? Well! if he need help, I say By all the Gods, looking over us. And to the memory of Domi. Come on Chosen Ones, let's go and have some fun."

Flat-top trots over to Kenisha and whispers to her, "Maybe after this is over, You and Kalon will be able to raise that little fold of yours. In case I don't see you later on have a nice life." Then Flat-top kisses Kenisha on the cheek. And trots along the others to the lift."

Ceira Karwyn
Wednesday March 13th, 2002 3:12:27 PM

"The Wold is at war?" repeats Ceira. "I had been so focused on our own nations that it never occurred to me that the whole Wold is indeed affected by this turmoil." Ceira grips a fist and looks up into the sky, "In Domi's name I swear I will fight to the death or else there will be little else to live for in this Wold. Yes Sir Valdor. Let it begin."

She silently thinks about her family and friends back at her village as she waits for their turn at the lift.

Zeoll
Wednesday March 13th, 2002 8:18:10 PM

Zeoll enjoys the view and the prospect of the ride in the lift. "It's kind of like the biggest leap I've everr made!" he says in Tauric.

In response to Valdor's voice, Zeoll remembers a man he once met in a dream he had, a fun fellow who enjoyed his drink and a good laugh. It seems odd to hear such a momentous message from one such as that.

"Well, his message is not news to us," Zeoll says. "Therre will be a warr, and we will be in it. Indeed, it is to fight this warr that we seek to unite the Taurrs into one mighty arrmy."

"All this does is add urrgency to ourr need. I wonderr if Valdorr knows the time of the end. We do."

Switching to Common, Zeoll says to Ludlow, "Could you get a message to Valdorr or some otherr memberr of his Drragon grroup? We have inforrmation that perrhaps he should know."

Jandar (DM Jerry)
Thursday March 14th, 2002 12:56:09 AM

"I could do that, if it is possible. I am his priest and friend."

A powerful looking humann stands a bit to the left. He wears a gold enlaid brown robe and a huge symbol of Domi on his chest. A smaller holy symbol of Alemi is also worn.

"I am Jandar of The Gold Dragons. Valdor is our leader."

He smiles warmly and looks at each of you in turn as if determing the status of your soul.

"Let us get on the lift and I will contact him. He is...in a distant place right now preparing to strike out at the Dark Lord."
...

The Ground is falling! [DM Jerry]
Thursday March 14th, 2002 1:13:05 AM

A man comes running from the ticket booth.

"This lift is the last one. Elenna is being attacked! Edenmoor and Madvow are already dead. The Dark Lord's army moves this way! Load quickly. The ropes will be drawn up after this lift run. Tie yourselves down. We will be going to emergency speed."

Ludlow comes running with their tickets. He spots Jandar and immediately bows. "Sir! I didn't know you were...."

::gulp::

"...here. Sorry. Do you need a ticket?"
...

When Jandar laughs out loud at the idea of a Gold Dragon needing a ticket, Ludlow gulps again and leads everyone onto the top of the set of lifts now waiting stacked on the ground.

There are 10 platforms now neatly stacked on top of each other. A stepladder leads up. Passengers are loaded first. As each platform fills, the ropes tighten and pull it 20' into the air where the next platform can be loaded.

Quickly all 10 are loaded and with a lurch, the entire thing heaves upwards! Faster and faster! Too fast!

500'

1000'

Incredible!

[Fortitude Save of DC 18 or you get dizzy and sick. (+2 to save for Wemics, +0 to save for Minotaurs, -2 to save for Centaurs) Anyone failing must make a Reflex save at DC16 or totally lose your center of balance and have to sit down or risk falling off the lift. Centaurs will have trouble doing this without trampling on others. (Yes I do like Centaurs! I'm not picking on ya...too much)]

As you continue to rise, you see black smoke in the distance...about where South Harbor should be. As you continue to rise, you see a huge black dark navy of hundreds of ships bombarding the city. It looks as if the whole city is on fire!

The lift rises even faster!

Kenisha
Thursday March 14th, 2002 2:07:42 AM

Kenisha shakes her head and laughs softly at Flat-top's words. "Nothing is carved in stone, my friend." she whispers back at him. "You may just outlive the rest of us."

To the others she says, "Let's get the Heart purified as quickly as possible. We need a rallying point now more than ever. As to where these evil temples are, I'm sure we will find a way to find them."

As the lift ascends faster and faster, Kenisha turns very green and stumbles to her knees on the lift!

OOC:Flat-top made his Fortitude Save.

Flat-top hangs on, and watches as they ascend. But Kenisha is going down on her knees. "Kalon, Help me hold on to Kenisha." Shouts Flat-top, but to Kenisha, he tells her, "Hold on to the harness they gave me and don't look down. It only make your stomach worse." Flat-top will pick Kenisha up and put her on her feet again. Flat-top look up as the clouds are coming to meet them. "I wonder if this is the feeling the Pegasus have when they are flying?" Flat-top wonders out loud.

Brahmah  d20+7=13
Thursday March 14th, 2002 4:24:53 AM

"Aaaarrghh!!" Brahmah seems to get louder the faster it goes. He clapses to his knees and begins to whimper like a young minotaur child.

"I'mmm not scaaaared!! I...." Speech trails off back into the whimper. He reaches for the Heart and helps to stabalize it.

Leets  d20+6=26
Thursday March 14th, 2002 9:06:17 AM

"YEEEPEEEEEE!!!"

Leets just can't interalize what he feels as the lift goes higher and higher, more and more quickly.

"You are right Flat-Top!!! It must be like this when you are a pegasus!!! We should come more often to..."

The joyful voice of the centaur paladin dies as he finally can see the battle scene away. His throat tightens as he suddenly feel like smeling the dust and smoke coming from the burning city. Of course, it's too far away, but it's just like when his own tribe was fighting the minotaurs...

"Wars always look alike...We have to get rid of this evil as soon as we can. May all the gods who have a spark of justice in their heart support our arms, and bring holy fire in our hearts when we'll face the ennemy!"

As the lift rises ever faster Kalon feels himself almost floating. When he looks at the rapidly greening Kenisha he moves to her.

"Flat-top let her down it will be better for her to not see the height." he let's Kenisha lean against him. He holds her against his chest trying to keep her as stable as he can. Gently he rubs her back and pulls her head into the nook of his shoulder.

Softly he whispers,"I will not let you fall my love relax against me and let us enjoy this moment before the fighting begins anew" he gently kisses her on the lips then keeps stroking her back soothingly.

Hoofin' It [DM Jerry]
Friday March 15th, 2002 12:42:51 AM

Suddenly the lift comes to a stop. Soldiers wearing the insignia of New Elenna help everyone off quickly. A gnome running the pulleys runs rapidly from one to another tossing water on them as they smoke with friction.

As soon as everyone is off, the lift jerks so the next platform can depart.

Jandar and Ludlow quickly hurry the group away from the crowd.

Jandar says, "We need to get to Plateau City quickly. We need faster means. He pulls off his left earring and presses it. "Roscoe, you available?"

A voice sounding kinda tinny comes out of the earring, "I am not your teleportation slave Jandar! We're under attack here!"

Jandar says, "Understood, who else do you think could help us? We've just ascended to the 1st plateau in the last lift. I'm with a group of Taurs on their way to the city on what I'm guessing is something rather important."

The voice says, "I've got no idea and..."

BAMMMMKAPOWIE!

An explosion sounds through the ring.

Jandar looks concerned his eyes drifting down to the smoke below.

"Come on we'll have to hoof it."

He begins running for the exit to the fort the lift has ascended to.

Looking back, you see that everyone has departed the lifts and the ropes are being drawn up quickly with soldiers straining on the pulleys to bring the rest of the ropes to the top.

Jandar pauses at the double gateway of the fort to see that everyone is with him and takes off again walking at a fast pace.

Huffing a bit, he says, "I suggest that we push on through the night if no one objects? Straight on to Whitehawk and past the Serenbeth Vineyards. Taurs like wine, right?"

Ceira Karwyn
Friday March 15th, 2002 1:40:45 AM

"What was that explosion I heard through your earring? I hope everyone is okay. I certainly don't know my way around here," says Ceira while trying to keep up, "so I'll go wherever you decide to lead us Sir Jandar!"

Zeoll and Gannet
Friday March 15th, 2002 6:12:29 AM

[OOC: Jerry, I forgot for the last couple days to mention Gannet in my post. He's my new Druidic animal friend (think, large gull / albatross). He's been sitting on the Arc (basically a wooden stretcher the ship's carpenter made us) we use to carry Domi's Cold Still Heart on.]

Zeoll helps with his end of the Arc. "Who else is lending a hand with the Hearrt?" he asks in Tauric. Gannet continues to sit on the Arc, on guard duty.

Zeoll agrees with Jandar, speaking in Common. "By all means, do let us rrun. We can go many hourrs yet beforre we need a rrest."

As he looks around and takes in the catastrophe behind, Zeoll mutters in his native Wemic, "The question is, how will we get back home after the Heart is restored?"

Brahmah
Friday March 15th, 2002 7:06:06 AM

Brahmah stands after the lift reaches the top.

"I'll follow Kenisha."

Brahmah won't move until Kenisha does.

Kenisha
Friday March 15th, 2002 11:27:46 AM

With Flat-top's and Kalon's help, Kenisha recovers and stands on her own. She whispers her thanks to both of them. Aloud in Tauric she says, "Flat-top, take the other end of the Heart. If we need to move faster later on, we can switch taurs or go to four carriers. Let's move out folks."

With than she trots next to Jandar as he walks. In Common she replies, "Yes, the Taur people do like wine. It holds a very special place in our worship and our magics."

Leets
Friday March 15th, 2002 12:13:40 PM

"Oh yes Jandar! Kenisha is right! We have the blue vine, and the red vine, and each one is holy to our eyes. The grape of this vineyard...Serenbeth, am I right? It will be special..."

Leets looks behind at the dark clouds of smoke that can be seen.

"It will be the blood of the first fallen...This vine will be the remains of the events that are taking place: we shall rememeber of it when we will share the drink..."

Kalon the Wemic
Friday March 15th, 2002 1:50:59 PM

After making sure that Kenisha is alright to run he paces her as they run beside The Heart.

Flat-top
Friday March 15th, 2002 5:57:34 PM

"Yes, Kenisha." Said Flat-top. He (Flat-top) take the back end of the Arc. "The harness that the sailors made for him, made it easier to carry the Heart." Flat-top smiles, "I'll drink to that, Leets. We will need a drink of wine. After this force march, ON! WARD! for as long as it takes."

Onward Then [DM Jerry]
Friday March 15th, 2002 11:52:52 PM

"Onward then."

Jandar sets a fierce pace. He sweats for awhile puffing and sweating. Then as if breaking through into his stride he seems to pour his faith into the run and he begins to run more naturally. Amazing!

Ludlow simply cannot keep up and the group is constantly lagging to keep him going.

"Sorry, long day and I sprint well, but not this....long stuff."

Every few seconds you hear another "Sorry."

Ok, on then to Endmath and up the 2nd plateau then to Blackwolf. Long way to Whitehawk....upwards that is.

About 3 hours later, and nearly into the dark of the evening, the group arives in Endmath. As you approach, you see looming over you the 2nd plateau. If anything, this one looks steeper even overhanging the 1st Plateau below.

Endmath is simply a supply waytown and unnoteworthy as you pass through in the early darkness. Then you are through town and through a gate into a tunnel. This tunnel winds to the right, and then emerges upon a 15" wide road that is cut into the cliff. One false step and off the end you go. The evening wind picks up pace as you realize that this cliff you actually have to walk up--and walk it is. It is much too steep to run for any kind of distance.

"There is a town about half way up in a indention in the cliff. Called Blackwolf. You can yell from there at a certain spot called Blackwolf Rock and be heard miles away in RedColt."

[Everyone make a Fortitude save at 14 or you become fatigued and have to stop to a walk. Anyone rolling under a 16 on the save is getting tired and sore.]

[Those who failed their saves on the lift and had to sit, need to make a Will save at DC13. Those failing are getting a bit dizzy from the heights and the nearby fatal edge of the road. (up to you if you fail as to whether you want to permanently make your character afraid of heights or not.)]

[You may trace our route by using the maps on the website.]

OCC: I made it. and I will not brag.

"Put your hands and back to the wall of the cliff and slowly walk along. Do not look down, don't worry you'll make it." FLAT-TOP for a moment thinks back to his training days, as to how his sargent made them climb cliff almost like these, *Well, Sarge, you son of a she devil. Leets walks on the tight way as if he lived in the mountain for years.

"I never thought I would see such a thing" says Leets looking the landscape. "Air smells so fresh here, I feel like my sould embrace all the Wold from here...It's such a pity to be here because of a war...Maybe we can come back when all is over, there will be less weight on my heart then.."

"Hehe Flat-Top! It looks like you are really experienced at this! I thought you were in the marine, not trekking in the mountains!"

Zeoll  d20+6=11 d20+10=24

Zeoll says to Ludlow, in Common, "I would carrry you, but I'm having trrrouble keeping up, myself!" The liontaur slows to a walk now and then, and wonders if someone else could help carry the arc. He looks very tired.

But he has no problem with the heights.

Kenisha  d20+4=22 d20+5=20
Monday March 18th, 2002 12:28:49 AM

Now that she is moving under her own steam, Kenisha is recovering nicely, even with the grueling pace and climb.

Even so, she keeps well away from the edge of the cliff, not wanting to tempt the fates.

"Zeoll, would you like to take a break from carrying the Heart?" she offers the winded wemic.

Monday March 18th, 2002 7:42:57 AM

Raorr after being forced to sit after the lift raised to quickly (at least that's what he claims) Raorr begins to adjust quickly to the dangerous climb.

Raorr remains quiet trying to focus most of his efforts on mantaining his balance. 'Why does these human cities need such treacherous path to places of worship' he thinks to himself.

Raorr grunts and punches the cliff face every now and again as if losing patience with the long journey.
"Stupid Humans., Stupid Human Cities. Stupid Human Cities with Stupid Cliffs to Stupid Temples that should have been made closer to the Smelly Stupid Human Harbour" He says in fustration (and in Tauric)

He continues along obviously grumpy and in a foul mood, only after a hour or so does a less foul thought thought cross his mind. Raorr asks aloud in a mocking tauric voice "Are we there Yet?"

2nd Plateau [Dm Jerry]
Tuesday March 19th, 2002 10:40:49 AM

Half way up, the group arrives at the cliff town of Blackwolf. It actually looks like it's pushed into the cliff. The roads mostly side to side and look like ramps. The whole town is not more than 200' deep, but spreads from side to side for quite a ways.

Here Jandar calls a halt.

"We must rest."

He leads you to an inn called "The Perch" There he buys you wine--not too much-- and lets you rest and sleep. He reserves both rooms and the stables, not knowing which you prefer.

The people there are curious, but give you your privacy.

Soon, Ludlow is waking you and asking what you want for breakfast, again, not knowing what you prefer for sure to replinish your strength.

Then you are off. The smoke has diminished to the south. There is talk. South Harbor has fallen to the Dark Lord. Most of the towns west of the 1st Plateau have been taken. The army is slaughtering everyone it can get it's hands on at times and at other times, drives the people on before them giving mock chase as they flee.

A few more hours of travel and you arrive at a large castle at the edge of the 2nd plateau.

But what is that smell? There are smashing vats nearby where grapes are being harvested!

Refreshed by the smell, you find an amazing sight upon exiting the courtyard of the castle:

Vineyards!!!!! Everywhere!!!!!

Varieties of grapes you've never seen before! Along with the usual types and even some blue and purple grapes slightly glowing with the magic of their preparation.

Ludlow grins and begins a running narrative of the area. Seems he grew up on a vineyard that his family has owned for over 200 years. He is very knowledgable about every aspect of the planting, growing, harvesting, aging, maturing, and selling of wine!

All too quickly you come in sight of the 3rd plateau and the mid-sized city of Greylore ahead of you. Here, he pushes forward to the lift to the 3rd plateau. Jandar disappears for a bit though, claiming an errand.

Once on the lift, Jandar comes a running, actually having to use a potionof levitation to catch up with the lift. "Once we had to use levitation to rise the full 5000'. I thought I was going to die and the potion would give out before we made it."

Then he sits and opens his pack. 2 bottles of Blue Wine!

"Are you guys allowed to drink this on a normal day?"

::he grins from ear to ear::

[Those who saved on the last lift need to save again. Will this time of DC 9.]

Flat-top  d20+2=21
Tuesday March 19th, 2002 11:42:42 AM

OOC: roled a 21, I think I made it.
The rest was very welcome, Flat-top slept soundly. He had nightmares of battles, hid home town, all his friends and relatives. When Ludlow wakes him up and from the look on his face. Flat-top knew that this young one never saw a Centaur in a sleeping position before. Flat is leaning against on the wall and opens his eyes, "Never seen a Centaur asleep before? Come my friend, we go for breakfast. How about some fruits and cook oats.
When every body is ready, they got on the lift and set down the Arc. "I put on the harness again today, if you feel sick grab hold of the strap and hold on." They start to go up when Jardar arisen and sits on the platform. Where apon opening his pack, there was the most beautiful bottles of wine. "Hello! Friends!" said Flat-top.

OOC: rolled a 21, I think I made it.

Zeoll and Gannet  d20+10=17 d20+9=24
Tuesday March 19th, 2002 4:07:10 PM

Zeoll takes a wondering look at the town of Blackwolf. He thinks about how defendable this place would be. Then again, a few strategically placed Stone to Mud spells could make defense difficult.

Zeoll thanks Jandar and Ludlow for their hospitality. For dinner, the liontaur eats meat, vegetables, meat, fruit, some sandwiches (with meat), stew, and whatever meat is leftover.

Gannet enjoys fish. "Hmm," Zeoll says. "I'll trry some fish too, but make mine cooked."

He'll take the stables. Zeoll prefers to sleep outside whenever he can. Even at home at the Hearthold Keep, he sleeps more often under the sky than in his room.

If his lion scent spooks the horses, he'll use his animal empathy skill (roll 24) to calm them.

In the morning he prepares his usual complement of spells, but swaps a second cure light wounds for an animal friendship.

This time Zeoll has no problem with the lift (roll 17) -- "A good night's rrest prreparres you forr anything," he says. Gannet squawks in agreement.

As to the wine, Zeoll thinks there's nothing wrong with a reverent sampling -- let him just offer a brief blessing first:

In thanks and hope we drrink in Domi's name --
A toast to His grreat courrage we prroclaim!

Brahmah  d20-2=14 d20+7=23 d20+2=22
Wednesday March 20th, 2002 12:03:21 AM

Brahmah sleeps where ever he's able to. He prefers the human rooms though. When he wakes, he's kind of grumpy.

When traveling along he smiles when he's sees all the vineyards and smells the grapes. Brahmah is also very verbal about the heights and lifts. "I don't want to travel up those lifts again, down might be a good thing though."

OOC:Saves and such. Failed the last time, Will save 14. Here's a Fort (23) and Reflex (22) just in case.

Ceira Karwyn  d20+5=12
Wednesday March 20th, 2002 12:11:13 AM

Ceira feels refreshed after resting at The Perch. The scent of a flourishing vineyard seems to heighten her sense of awareness until she sees the next lift to the 3rd Plataeu. She frowns and mumbles as she sits down in anticipation of the nausea, "Maybe if I close my eyes... or maybe some of that Blue Wine would do some good in my stomach." she comments as she licks her lips. "I just hope it stays in my stomach long enough to enjoy it."

Kenisha  d20+5=23
Wednesday March 20th, 2002 12:31:29 AM

(ooc- First roll is her save; the second is her winemaker skill to see if she can identify the origins of the wine)

At the inn she asks Kalon to sleep with her out in the stables. "It will be more comfortable for me that way." she adds with a smile.

For breakfast she also has cooked oats and fruit. She also asks for some bacon, a human food that she has heard of but never tried before. She finds it a bit salty but overall a pleasant addition to the meal.

Prepared for the experience this time, Kenisha avails herself of the straps on the lift and this time enjoys the experience very much.

She bows her head as Zeoll gives his blessing and then accepts a cup of the sacred wine. She raises her cup and says, "To success in defeating the evil one and to the uniting of all Taurs." She then drinks the wine with the greatest of reverence and respect. (ooc-She also sees if she can identify the wine by it's taste, smell and clarity).

Kalon the Wemic  d20+5=10
Wednesday March 20th, 2002 1:31:15 AM

As the group hurries on during the day Kalon keeps a constant look behind feeling that there may be pursuit but not knowing the source.

That night when Kenisha suggests he sleep with her he is a little startled but accepts with a returning smile.

At breakfest he eats mostly fruit and bread tucking half of what he gets into his satchel for later.

As they climb onto the lift he places himself closer to the edge to keep Kenisha further from it. Halfway he feels that by the edge is more imposing then he thought last time. However with an effort he blocks the sensations from his mind.

Leets
Wednesday March 20th, 2002 8:17:01 AM

Leets enjoys the break at the Perch very much. The long walk, and the air of the mountain were like a full-day of hard working.
The young centaur paladin will take bread (enjoying it all the more if it is fresh), dried meat and water. He will avoid vine until Kenisha raises her cup.

"To defeat the evil one and unite the Taurs!" repeats Leets, this time drinking his cup of vine.

Later in the evening, he will try to see far away what is happening, searching for fires in the landscape.

In a way, he feels very lost. He never travelled so far from the islands, and more than ever he feels divine forces at work. Fates are beeing tied, and others broken. Heroes are about to rise, and other will die soon. What was happening was the stuff legends were made of, and he was wondering how all that would finish...Of course, he knew only good could win the battle. What was still hidden to his mortal eyes was how it would happen, and tonight, even the stars were silent...

Kale
Wednesday March 20th, 2002 9:27:49 AM

"We should not be drinking wine while towns burn and childern are killed." Kale says, a bit disgusted by everyone's cheerfulness. "Ill drink my cup once our task is done." he says with a snarl then he tries to keep himself busy, rechecking his weapons and packs until everyone is ready to move out again

Bitter Wine [DM Jerry]
Wednesday March 20th, 2002 12:01:26 PM

Jandar pauses mid drink and then sets his glass down in response to Kale's words.

"Yes, perhaps you're right."

::sigh::

As you rise, you can see down to the 2nd plateau, over that cliff to the 1st plateau, and in the far misty distance, waaaaaay down below that, the sea.

The air begins to thin as you rise to a elevation of 15,000 feet very quickly.

After an hour, you are up! A small quaint village called Cloverjuice meets your eyes. The smell of clover is everywhere. Ivy grows on everything.

Ludlow points out the view to the west and you see Plateau City at last from about 5 miles away.

It is huge! Covering the whole west end of the plateau, it's skyline and walls are definitely intimidating.

Ludlow, beginning a narrative about the 3rd plateau.

"The City of Adventurers has over 100,000 citizens at any time, but this fluctuates with the number of merchante and adventurers. Usually one can find over 100 adventuring groups in the city at any time. Now, however, I expect most of them are off helping in the war against the enemy."

It is truly an amazing site with castles rising to the sky, spires of mages dotting the horizon, pyramids glinting off of the sun in the southern portion of the city, and the multitude of caravans winding the roads toward and away from the city.

Flat-top stand there Looking at the scene below, "Very Beautiful! Every where I look nothing but beauty. And you know something, Kale? I think it's worth fighting for." Turning to Kale,"Let's go see what we'll be facing and maybe a little of that wine."

Kenisha
Wednesday March 20th, 2002 11:09:34 PM

Kenisha listens to Ludlow as they continue on their travels to the city.

Then she asks "About what time will it be when we get to the city?"

Brahmah
Thursday March 21st, 2002 1:33:47 AM

"Yes Ludlow, this IS quite nice and the air is clean and clear, but when are we getting down from here?!" Brahmah rambles under his breath about 'this plateau and that plateau, blah blah, humans don't ever shut up...' "I'll be needing a lot more of THAT wine REAL soon!"

Ceira Karwyn
Thursday March 21st, 2002 1:37:34 AM

"Ahh! Off of the lift! It amazes me that such a populated city can thrive way up here." Ceira comments as she gazes at the castles, pyramids, and other tall structures that reach towards the sky. "I would've figured everything would be prone to being blown off due to the winds."

Zeoll and Gannet
Thursday March 21st, 2002 6:10:38 AM

The priest of Domi respectfully disagrees with Kale and encourages Jandar to drain his cup. In Common, Zeoll says, "It is sad that innocents die and buildings burrn in warr, but rrememberr that -- dead orr not -- Domi is the god of warr! It makes me morre sad to turrn ourr backs on the battle below. It is to fight this warr that Domi Chose us! Do not be a pacifist -- instead, embrrace the tumult as ourr destiny, in which we will defeat ourr foes and honorr Domi with ourr brraverry."

"As forr me, on the eve of warr, I gladly celebrrate Domi's courrage with this holy wine, forr in this way I spit in the eyes of both enemies and death!"

Zeoll drinks all his wine.

...

Zeoll looks on Plateau City in amazement, and says, "These worrks are incrredible, but in a city so huge, what place is therre forr naturre? And the stench must be incrredible."

Gannet sees the city from his perch on the Arc and vaguely remembers that humans make lots of tasty garbage. His head fills with thoughts of scraps and leavings. Mmmm.

OOC Raorr fails Will save DC 9

Raorr again continues following the group unfortunately the air and heights seem to be affecting him even more.

"I can't breathe, the air it's disappearing. The human's trying to trick us. WE should kill him before we die." RAorr says in Tauric as he pants quite heavily

Becoming disoreinted and woozy from the hieght and thin air Raorr continues to speak but seems to be resorting to just Minotauric "Watch it human you almost made me fall. Do it again and you'll be thrown off UNDERSTAND!"

with each step he walks slower and slower

Kale
Thursday March 21st, 2002 7:42:11 AM

"Im not too concerned about its beauty." Kale says to Flat-Top. "But it is worth fighting for.Which is why we need to make haste."

Cloverjuice [DM Jerry]
Thursday March 21st, 2002 11:24:54 AM

Ludlow reaches down and pulls up some clover. He smashes it up and puts it in his waterflask.

"Drink this. Helps with the altitude. Let's you breathe. Cloverjuice."

He passes this around and it helps enormously.

"The city is only an hour away."

Soon you are to the gates.

"Halt! Who goes there?" says a smiling but serious guard.

"Oh hello Sir Jandar. Good to have you back in the city sir. Just be careful. If I saw ya, I'd have to arrest ya, yaknow.

"Oh, he's gone. Perhaps he was never there."

A junior guard speaks up, "But sir he was right...."

The senior guard elbows the junior one with his elbow...hard.

"I think he was never there soldier."

Swallowing, "Yes sir."

"Welcome to Plateau City. Sign your names on the ledger, list your business here, and the length of your stay. If you wish to become citizens you'll need to visit the High Lord Mayor's Castle. Enjoy your visit."

You pass through Castle Gate and into the city.

Amazing!

To the north is a temple rising up like a skull. A neighborhood reduced to rubble lies south and east of that location. Ahead is the Endless River. The Endless Falls are also ahead.

and beyond....

More ruins.

Jandar reappears.

"Yes, that's where the Cathedral of Domi stood."

He bows his head.

Flat-top
Thursday March 21st, 2002 2:25:46 PM

As Sir Jandar mixes and passes the Cloverjuice around, Flat-top takes a good swig. "Ahh! Yes,! that is very refreshing, Raorr your going to love it." They press on until they came to Plateau City.

At the gates they were stop and had to sign the ledger, NAME flat-top - BUSINESS HERE - to meet a gentleman - LENTH of STAY - not long. Then out the other gate, in front of Flat-top was Plateau City *Beautiful* he whispers. He look around then his eyes came to rest east. Where the Endless Fall and that beautiful river was. Beyond was ruins, as sir Jardar rejoined the party. He told Flat-top that was where the Cathedral of Domi once stood. Flat-top felt a pain in his heart, more so than the death of his Dam.

Flat-top put his hand on Leets shoulder and whispers to him, "Leets! I'm going to kill that Want-to-be or Die trying."

Brahmah
Thursday March 21st, 2002 7:28:53 PM

"Thank you for that Cloverjuice!"

Brahmah just follows along happily now after the juice.

Kenisha
Friday March 22nd, 2002 12:50:09 AM

Fearing Raorr's reaction to Ludlow's offered drink, Kenisha drinks some of the clover water even though she doesn't really need it. In Taur and then again in Common she says, "Ah, that hit the spot. An excelent use of the clover's natural healing properties. Thank you Ludlow."

Ceiar Karwyn
Friday March 22nd, 2002 1:14:20 AM

After taking a sip, "WOW! That's quite a concoction! Sir Jandar, where do you get those clover things I saw you smash up? I wonder if it will make my boat trip home a bit more easier than on the way here? In anycase, what were those guards mumbling about 'not seeing you'?" wonder Ceira with a perplexed look. "Are you in some sort of trouble?"

Leets
Friday March 22nd, 2002 2:07:16 AM

"Cloverjuice? To my mind, this breathing thing is just part of the pilgrimage...I think I don't need it for the moment..."

A veil of sadness darkens Leets' face when he glances at the ruins, then he notes the strange skull temple.

"Sir Jandar...What's that? I have a strange feeling about this place...What happened here exactly?"

"Flat-Top...You'll find me by your side till the end of the battle, I can tell you..."

Kale
Friday March 22nd, 2002 4:16:25 AM

taking a sip of the drink, Kale feels better, but doesnt the others know it. once they are at the ruin temple of Domi, Kale bends down and picks up a rock from among the damage and puts it in his pocket

Zeoll and Gannet
Friday March 22nd, 2002 6:10:14 AM

Zeoll drinks the juice and is grateful. If it is okay, he gives a sip to Gannet. He takes up his position carrying the Arc.

At the gate, Zeoll watches the interaction with the guard but says nothing until it is time to sign the book. Then he proudly steps up, saying, "I'm glad I learrned to rread and wrrite." The wemic had been illiterate until very recently.

He signs:

Name: Zeoll, Student to Shaman Frith, Warrior to Pride Nonowla, Son to Clan Aene of Liontaur Island, and Chosen of Domi

Business: The Quest to Revive and Restore the Stone Heart of Domi

Length of Stay: As short as possible

"I have no desirre, thank you, to become a citizen of yourr community," he answers the guard.

As the Chosen pass by the Cathedral, Zeoll pauses a moment in silence. He is, in fact, somewhat stunned by the forcible reminder that humans honored Domi as did Taurs, and that they did so in massive stone buildings, rather than under the open sky.

Seeing Kale, Zeoll says to him, "That is an amazing idea! I hope you won't mind if I follow suit." If there is no objection, Zeoll takes a small pebble from the ruin, casts Guidance on it as a blessing, and adds it to the totem bag he wears around his neck. There it joins the holy relic given him when he became a priest and the fingerbone he took from a human he defeated in single combat on Centaur Isle.

Raorr looks down at the ledger
Friday March 22nd, 2002 10:31:51 AM

Raorr drinks some of the cloverjuice after kenisha mentions healing properties. "Tastes okay, not wine but good enough"

Frowning he stares at the paper after a moment he looks to Kalon "I can't figure out what they want me to do. but I have a feeling I don't like it"

He hand the quill to kalon and says " You going to write on the paper?"

Kalon the Wemic
Saturday March 23rd, 2002 1:44:21 AM

Kalon smiles at the big minotaur,"You know I could teach you to read and write sometime and then you'd understand." he writes down his name and fills out all the rest. Hooking a thumb at Raorr he speaks to the guard,"He can't read or write I'll do it for him"

That said he fills out the ledger for Raorr

DM Carl: A Prestigious Invitation
Saturday March 23rd, 2002 9:21:04 AM

Allowing the Taurs some time to appreciate the scale of the destruction, Jandar and Ludlow stand in silence. (OOC: Check the War Temple location on the Plateau City Outcast Quarter map at http://www.woldiangames.com/maps/yrth/peninsula/newelenna/plateaucity/outcast_quarter.htm. The full map of Plateau City is at http://www.woldiangames.com/maps/yrth/peninsula/newelenna/plateaucity/main_plateau_city_map.htm.)

After a suitably respectful interval Ludlow pipes up "Grenult, High Priest of Alemi, will meet with you when you are ready. But it grows late, and the journey has been arduous. Perhaps it would be best if we rested the night, and meet again in the morning. "

At this Jandar intercedes; "Then we may kill two birds with one stone. Oh, nothing personal, friend," he smiles apologetically to Zeoll and Gannet. "If you are agreeable come and stay in the Gold Dragon castle tonight, and on the morrow we will provide you breakfast, and the opportunity to impart your knowledge to Valdor. Then you can meet with the High Priest bright and early."

Those of the party who know of the fabled Gold Dragons realise this is quite an honour, though the powerful priest makes the offer with no pomp or circumstance.

Assuming the party agrees Jandar continues to Ceira "The Gold Dragons are not in favour with the new powers of this city, though the city guard are willing to turn a blind eye. It would be best that you were not seen with me. Ludlow, would you lead the Chosen of Domi to the castle? I shall meet you there."

And so saying he takes his leave.

Kale
Saturday March 23rd, 2002 9:24:11 AM

Brahmah

Brahmah follows happily to the castle.

OOC: Is there a blue print of the castle?

Flat-top

"Ever hear of the Golden Dragons? And they have a castle here in the sky? Hmm! Come on guys this I have to see." Flat-top will walk with the Three Minotaurs (Kale,Brahamh and Raorr). "Come on Leets, your lagging behind."

Kenisha
Sunday March 24th, 2002 11:01:16 PM

"Sounds reasonable." Kenisha says as the follows behind Flat-top.

Raorr looks down at the ledger
Monday March 25th, 2002 5:08:13 AM

RAorr looks at his Leone friend and says "I can read, but human's write oddly, no understand their stupid words. What did they want me to sign?"

Once he's told he says "Oh the day I choose to live here is..." He thinks for moment trying to think of a way to describe his dislike of the city, despite it's awe inspiring veiws

after a moment of thinking he says "...Is the day I retire and become a pacifist."

Zeoll and Gannet
Monday March 25th, 2002 6:58:11 AM

Gannet is in garbage heaven. He enjoys tasty tidbits as the Chosen walk through the city.

Zeoll says, "I think we would be honorred indeed to visit the Gold Drragons in theirr home. Although I wish to complete ourr holy mission as soon as possible, do let us accept this invitation, and with thanks."

Leets
Monday March 25th, 2002 12:03:09 PM

"A dragon? A golden one? Who lives in a castle in the sky...Well...I thought we went as high as possible, but it looks like we didn't. Of course I want to see this place and...Ahem...I would be greatly honored to meet such a person."

DM Carl: Here be Dragons
Monday March 25th, 2002 1:57:01 PM

As Ludlow leads the Chosen to the Gold Dragon castle he explains to Leets that the Gold Drtagons are in fact an adventuring party, albiet an enormously experienced and respected one. They are not real dragons, though some say they have close links with the creatures. Indeed, it was their defense and part in the escape of the old High Priest of Alemi, Oratai, and the Sturtavent, Lord High Mayor of Plateau City (both of whom turned out to be Dragons in disguise!) that got the Gold Dragons outlawed not so long ago.

The Chosen are well taken care of, and every courtesy is lavished upon them. Their rest, after weeks of sleeping under the stars aboard ship, and the frenziedforced march up the Plateaus, is deep and peaceful.

The following day breakfast is served bright and early, and after you are done eating Jandar appears.

"My friends, I must apologize. It seems Valdor and the rest of the Gold Dragons cannot be reached at present. They stand on the threshold of an immense battle, and now is not the time to distract them.

However if each of you who wishes to do so would speak into this amulet" (he places a heavy gold amulet with a large saphire at its centre on the breakfast table) "your words will be preserved. At a more opportune time I will pass them on to Valdor. Speak now of what you have seen. Any information you remember may prove vital in the coming struggle against the Dark Lord."

Once you have left your recollections and thoughts (OOC: I will try to pass your comments through to the Gold Dragon game if possible) Ludlow arrives. "If you are ready, the High Priest is ready to meet with you at his private chambers. We should be going. Is everybody ready?"

Flat=top
Monday March 25th, 2002 4:50:12 PM

"I leave talking to Kenisha, She's our leader and She also talk for me. Now I'll go and do some excersise and meet the rest of you at the arc." Out goes Flat-top and sword play to keep in shape.

Ceira Karwyn
Tuesday March 26th, 2002 1:11:04 AM

After Ludlow explains a bit of detail about the Gold Dragons, Ceira stammers, "They... we get to meet... he... Jandar is one of... he spoke to me... Oh my goodness!!!"

She is again awestruck as Jandar appears before them again. "Whatever will I say to them...? In fact, I do not know if I am worthy. True, I am one of Domi's Chosen but the deeds we have accomplished pales in comparison to what the Gold Dragons have achieved in their adventures."

Ceira fidgets with her fingers before finally approaching Jandar's amulet. "Hello mighty Gold Dragons. I am Ceira Karwyn from the island of the Wemics and I am honored to have the opportunity to leave you with a message. Domi has selected my friends and I as his Chosen. I hope we can someday match the magnitude of your accomplishments and meet you in person. Best wishes from me and may the strength of Domi bless you in your future battles to come!"

After she is done, Ceira bows for Jandar in reverence. "Thank you Jandar."

Kenisha
Tuesday March 26th, 2002 1:14:53 AM

Kenisha gives Flat-top an mock stern look as she takes the amulet from Jandar. She feels a bit strange talking to an an inanimate object. "Ahem... My name is Kenisha and I am the leader of the Chosen. After the demise of Imod, the taur nations were in great turmoil and despare. A false cult of Love took root on the Minotaur Isle and they did try to destroy the Reunited Heart of Domi. We managed to break up the cult but could not learn much of use from the prisoners. Then a strange portal opened in the Heart's Chamber. We went through to what was either a possible future or some mystical vision of what might be. Either way, we learned that the quest to unite the Taurs was pivotal to the survival of the whole Wold! If we can not succeed in this quest, in six months time a void will spread across the Wold, destroying all in it's way. We have devised a plan to purify the now dead Heart and imbed a part of the First Taur's essense in it so that it will live again. We feel this could be an important rallying point for the Taurs and aid us in fighting against this evil that theatens us all."

She turns to the others and asks, "I'm sure I missed some things, anyone care to add to what I've already said?"

Brahmah
Tuesday March 26th, 2002 2:38:49 AM

" I also leave the talking to Kenisha."

Brahmah stays close to the other Chosen, but stays realitively quiet.

Kale
Tuesday March 26th, 2002 3:00:44 AM

"No, I think you said it all Kenisha."

Leets
Tuesday March 26th, 2002 4:47:53 AM

"Well done Kenisha. I hope he will get this quickly...What shall we do now? I feel bad about staying here while others are fighting. What do you think? Couldn't we help in some way?"

Leets walks to the closest window and looks outside, as if something was about to happen...

Zeoll and Gannet
Tuesday March 26th, 2002 7:02:27 AM

"Well spoken, Kenisha," Zeoll says.

"Now, on to the High Priest."
