DM Carl: Enter the Tortoise d20+1=11 Tuesday March 26th, 2002 1:55:50 PM
The Chosen, their message left, follow Ludlow out onto the city streets. Ludlow explains that they don't have far to go; the High Priest is rooming at a private residence until the old High Priest's quarters can be made ready.
The group of Taurs, attracting surprisingly little attention from the blase citizens of Plateau City, are informed by Ludlow that momentous news has reached the city. Apparently the great cities of Lankhmar and Ailthmar, said to have landed on their current sites from who knows where, have gone! They have simply torn themselves loose of the Wold, and vanished into the heavens, leaving only the rubble of the original cities in their wake. Strange and worrisome times they live in...
The party arrive at a sizeable, heavily gated two-storey private building. Beckoning the Taurs to follow, Ludlow opens the gate, allows the Taurs through, and closes it behind them.
You find yourselves in a covered entranceway, perhaps 25 feet wide. There is a sturdy oak door to your left. Ahead of you, across the courtyard, there is a large leaded window, raised maybe 10 feet from the ground that continues up to the second storey. Through this you can see an elderly bearded gentleman in ornate priestly robes. He and Ludlow exchange waves, and the young accolyte beckons you forward eagerly into the courtyard.
"Come on, the High Priest is waiting!"
(OOC: Will saves, Spot checks and Int checks from everybody, please...)

Zeoll asks Ludlow if he should leave Gannet outside -- then he does whatever Ludlow advises. Zeoll enters the courtyard with the other Chosen. He removes his hat as a sign on respect.
Kalon the Wemic d20+5=25 d20+1=16 d20=14 Tuesday March 26th, 2002 9:03:51 PM
Kalon chooses not to leave a message then follows the group. When he hears the news of Lankhmar and Ailthmar he moves over to take Kenisha's hand. He smiles at her then says,"We will save our people and our homes have no fear. I too want the future we saw to come true"
OOC: Will save 25 (natural twenty), Spot 16 and Int 14
Ceira remains silent with a frown as they make their way to meet the High Priest. The frown is not in response to the High Priest but rather representing a mind that is in a flurry of activity. Ceira is trying to make heads or tails out of the extraordinary phenomena that caused the cities of Lankhmar and Ailthmar to vanish. "Impossible..." she mutters to herself.

Kenisha d20+5=18 d20+3=18 d20+3=15 Tuesday March 26th, 2002 11:29:04 PM
Kenisha smiles and laces her fingers with Kalon's. "Well at least the pregnancy, yes. You being gone and the Wold about to be destroyed, no." she whispers to him with a teasing lilt to her voice.

"Imagine talking to a piece of jewelry, Hump!" grumble Flat-top. When the Accolyte beacons the party to follow. "Good! Now the High Priest can get started." Flat-top Picks up his end of the Arc and follows. As the party are on their way, Flat-top (with his keen sense of hearing) over hears Kenisha little secret and smiles to himself "All the more to fight for." Thinking to himself.

OOC: Will 12, Spot 18, Int 20.
Leets feels both nervous and impatient about meeting the High Priest. After all, this man was his hierarchical superior in some way, and...well...Now that he was thinking about it, he never met any kind of High Priest...Nor hierarchical superiors by the way...However, the man probably would have many answers to many questions, and the young centaur paladin was feeling relieved to find so many people to help the Chosens in their holy quest...

He looks around but doesn't spot anything yet.
DM Carl: Surprise! Wednesday March 27th, 2002 11:08:57 AM
As you walk into the courtyard several things happen at once.
Ahead of you Ludlow turns around, spreads his arms wides and with a big, friendly, cheesy grin yells "Surprise!"
Flat Top and Leets suddenly begin to feel unaccountably nervous. Their warrior instincts scream out at them, this is the perfect spot for an ambush!
At the same moment Kalon lets out a gasp of surprise, swiftly followed by Ceira and Zeoll. The waving figure of the High Priest; it's an illusion!
And at the precise same moment Brahmah sees movement in the upper story windows; behind the twitching curtains are bowmen, set to attack!
No-one currently has weapons drawn. Roarr, Kenisha and Kale are Flat Footed, with no awareness that anything is wrong. The rest may make a Partial Action in the instant before the ambush begins.
(OOC: Anyone who didn't get the battle map, please email me on carlw@clara.net ASAP. Thank you!)
Kenisha Wednesday March 27th, 2002 12:14:38 PM
"Surprise?" Kenisha repeats, very much puzzled. "We don't have time for this, Ludlow."
Zeoll Leaps! (and Gannet?) d20+34=46 d20+2=12 d20+2=6 d4+3=6 Wednesday March 27th, 2002 1:55:52 PM
Zeoll, amazed at this turn of events, reacts immediately with the instincts of a hunter. He was already eyeing the higher-level windows, and his immediate, instinctive response is to fly at them.
Gathering his massive leg muscles and drawing on the power of his magic ring, Zeoll runs and leaps up at a window. (OOC: roll 46) The liontaur claws his way more than 18 feet up into the air! With any luck, he makes it through the window and lands on one of the enemies with bows.
With his charge attack, Zeoll hopes to land with both paws right on a bowman! He hits AC 12 and AC 6 -- probably not good enough. But if one hits, it lands for 6 hp damage, 7 if the bowman is human.
If Gannet is with Zeoll, the bird will fly up to be with Zeoll, not attacking yet.
As Zeoll pounces and fights, he begins singing: A trrap! A plot! An ambuscade! Good Rraorrr, it seems that you werre rright! These puny humans have betrrayed! And now they'll die upon my blade! Come frriends! Come Chosen! Now we fight!
When Zeoll sings the words "upon my blade," he draws his greatsword and his longsword, one in each hand.
[OOC: I know this seems like a lot for just a partial actions, but it breaks down like this: A partial charge, with the jump, can take Zeoll up to 40 feet. Hopefully that will get him up, through a window, and into melee. The singing is a free action for a bard (Bardic Inspire Courage says, "While singing, the bard can fight but cannot cast spells, activate magic items by spell completion (such as scrolls), or activate magic items by magic word (such as wands)." Drawing weapons is also a free action. And Carl, are any of the windows open? If so, Zeoll will target an open window. Otherwise he'll leap through a closed window, hoping to crash through the glass. Finally, if his path takes him by Ludlow, the traitor may get an attack of opportunity on Zeoll.]
Flat-top Wednesday March 27th, 2002 3:21:35 PM
Flat-top tell Raorr, "Your right, Raorr. We should have listen to you. Anybody spotted a stair case to get up stairs? Kale, why don't you speak to our friend Ludlow? He may have something of intress to tell you."
Flat-top will put up his shield to protec the females. Flat-top cannot move too much because he is caught between the Arc and Kalon. "I wonder if this is like shooting fish in a barrel?"
Brahmah d20+8=28 d20+8=22 d8+8=15 d8=8 d8+8=12 d8=3 Wednesday March 27th, 2002 5:48:55 PM
"Traitor! There are much EASIER ways to have people killed Human, here let me show you! Chosen! Archers above!" Brahmah doesn't hesitate, he charges Ludlow with horns down. Hitting AC 28, crit threat confirmed for AC 22 (assuming 22 hits), hitting Ludlow for 38 points of damage, charging. Brahmah, looks very ready to lay down the Law, "There is no honor in betrayal human!"
OOC:That's Brahmahs partial for the suprise round, now he's probably going to get shot up, so his AC with the charge is 19 vs. the archers and 20 (Dodge) vs. Ludlow. That's counting the -2 from the charge and +1 from Dodge.
Note: I didn't recieve the map, well, I recieved it but looked at it and foolishly deleted it. :)
Ceira Karwyn Thursday March 28th, 2002 12:37:19 AM
"The priest is an illusion!" yells Ceira. Not seeing the bowman, she looks behind her to see if anyone is coming up from behind.
Kalon the Wemic d20+1=21 Thursday March 28th, 2002 12:38:24 AM
Kalon seeing the danger moves protectively in front of Kenisha. He rears onto his back legs making as big a target as he can to cover Kenisha.
"Kenisha get back it's a trap" he yells then roars loudly to the archers,"Betrayers we will feast on your hearts, Run now or die"
OOC: He is trying to give Kenisha as much cover as he can till she recovers from her surprise. He is also trying to intimidate them hoping that Zeoll made it to one of them to reinforce his attempt. Intimidate roll a natural 20 so 21 total
Leets d20+3=5 Thursday March 28th, 2002 7:38:25 AM
"I should have felt this treachery earlier!"
Says Leets getting a look at the bowmen and walking backward while drawing his sword.
"Ludlow, or whatever is your name, you forget that we came here to slay evil too! By this insidious act you give us the opportunity to begin our holy mission! I don't know who is the dark power leading you on this mediocre way, but I know that all the gods who have a spark of righteousness are standing by our side! I still have things to do in their name and in memory of Domi, and the first one will be to make you meet your doom!"
While talking, Leets came near Flat-Top, joining his own shield to the defense movement (it means, Full Defense this round), to protect the females too.
OOC: intimidate 5...
Kale Thursday March 28th, 2002 9:25:28 AM

Zeoll's prodigious leap takes him up and through the upper storey window dead ahead; the leaded glass causes minimal damage as he crashes through onto a narrow landing. There are no enemies in sight, but his momentum is carrying him up and over a precipice! Zeoll must make a REF check DC 18 or fly straight over the balcony banister and crash down to the ground floor! (for a further 1 HP damage, and Fort check DC 15 or be stunned for 1 round). He has no time to draw his weapons.
Brahmah charges, and Ludlow dies like a gutted fish, a look of absolute astonishment on his face.
As he dies you are sure you hear someone laugh out loud.
Seemingly in response to Kalon's words six windows slam open on the first floor, and the attack begins!
A huge sticky web appears over the gateway, completely blocking your retreat. Directly in front of Leets and Ceira a large, glowing, disembodied hand appears.
From the four courtyard windows missiles rain down. Roarr is hit by an arrow from R1 for 13HP, Kale by a crossbow bolt from R2 for 6HP, and Brahamah by an arrow for 12 HP from R3. R4's arrow whistles past Kenisha's head.
A voice from above cries "Prepare to join your dead God, beasts! Die, in the name of the dark Lord!"
Zeoll and Gannet (Inspired, Stunned) d20+3=13 d20+6=13 Thursday March 28th, 2002 1:16:39 PM
Zeoll spills over the railing and falls to the floor! He takes a moment just to gather his wits. Gannet lands on his back, looking nervous. (OOC: failed both saves!)

Leets d20+5=20 Friday March 29th, 2002 4:35:33 AM
"Zeoll! Oh! Are you ok?"
Leets looks at the disembodied hand, he is now ready to attack.
"What's this new evil, who's behind this! Show yourself, coward! Kenisha, Ceira! We need magic support!"
Holding his shield almost over his head to deflect the missiles, Leets tries to attack the big hand with his longsword, at least to divert it while the females prepare their spells.
Kenisha d4+2=6 d4+2=5 Friday March 29th, 2002 5:12:34 AM
(ooc- I think you sent the wrong map, Carl. The one I got was from the tavern fight.)
Kenisha calls out, "Let's take these foolish humans down!" She then casts Magic Missile at one of the enemy archers (ooc- which ever one she can see since the I can't tell without a map) for 11 HP of damage.
Flat-top Friday March 29th, 2002 5:21:33 AM
(OOC:the map you sent me was an old one, this map puts us someplace else. I am confused)
Flat-top is pinned between the arc and the party in back of him. Now he sees a hand coming at the back. "If I go after this magic hand, I'll have to lower my shield and let the Ceria and Kenisha get hit. If I stand my ground and keep the arrows from the both Sorceress, I'll look like a pin quill, but it give us a chance with our magic." Flat-top tells Leets and asks "You! Know! right now I wish I had a bow???"
Kalon the Wemic Friday March 29th, 2002 12:09:46 PM
Kalon rushes forward to beneath one of the open windows. Turning he yells Raorr,"Raorr come to me and I'll help you up. Brahmah if this works you can get up as well"
OOC: Kalon will attempt to get Raorr up by one of two methods. Not entirely sure how much I can lift but based on the way I read it in the players handbook I can lift over my head 920lbs (16 Str max lift 240lbs x2 for being large x2 for maximum lift over my head. If that is not the case I will stand on my back legs and reach up toward the window like a cat stretching against a piece of furniture.
Kale d20+2=10 Friday March 29th, 2002 9:31:13 PM
shooting into the courtyard window from where the bolt hit him from(r2), Kale's arrow hits itself on the curtain(AC10) then moving towards the brown door, he yells out "We need to find the stairs up!"
Ceira Karwyn d4+1=3 d4+1=2 d20+8=24 Friday March 29th, 2002 10:24:21 PM
With some difficulty deciding between the archers and the disembodied hand, Ceira finally decides to split her attack. With a quick flick of her wrists, she sends one Magic Missle to one of the archers (3 dmg) and one Magic Missle flying towards the hand (2 dmg). Disregarding the archer, Ceira focuses on what effects the Magic Missle has on the disembodied hand (Spellcraft=24).

As Zeoll lies inside the building, dazed and confused, Gannet flaps upwards in alarm; someone's coming! Zeoll is able to look around groggily in time to spot a female dwarf, weilding a Waraxe and a face you could use to strip wallpaper, charging towards him.
The others out in the courtyard cannot see this development, however. The facing window is raised, and Zeoll and the dwarf are below the High Table platform.
Kale moves to the door, which looks to be of sturdy construction, and seems to be locked. Roaring in frustration at the out of reach archers, Brahmah follows him.
Kalon moves to the window beneath R3 and yells for Roarr to climb up. The huge minotaur seems dazed by the suddeness of the ambush, however, and does not respond.
Leets takes a hefty swing at the ghastly hand, but his sword blade simply passes straight through it!
Ceira is more succesful; her magic missiles catch both the Hand and one of the Wizards (W1: facing the wrong way to hit an archer). The hand vanishes in a "Phwump!" of green smoke, much to its caster's annoyance. The Wizard struck by the Magic Missile seems to shrug off the damage, however, completing his spell.
Kenisha's magic missile strikes R4 hard, and a half elven face contorts in pain at the window. "You'll pay for that, you nag!" Shrieks the archer.
R1 fires into the crowd, but manages to send his arrow into the far wall. R2 catches Kenisha with a crossbow bolt for 7 HP, while R3 hits Roarr in the shoulder for 3 HP. R4, still smarting at Kenisha's attack, replies with an arrow that catches her in the flank (4 HP). "Take that, ya freak!" he yells.
Wizard 2 has seemingly lost his prepared spell with the destruction of his ghoulish hand, but W1 suffers no such fate. With a roar of fire a Flaming Sphere appears between Brahmah and Kale, searing at their flesh. (Reflex save vs DC 18 or suffer 11 HP damage each).
Wizard 2, his spell lost, yells down at the party in fury "We'll kill you all! We'll grind your stupid Heartstone to dust and scatter it to the winds! None may oppose the will of the Dark Lord! Death to the enemies of Great Marteaus!"
Flat-top Saturday March 30th, 2002 6:16:13 PM
Flat-top now has weapon in hand, "Alright,Kale! Shoe us a stair way and we'll get to the bottom of this problem." Then looks at Leets, "No! use! your blade will just go through that thing. Only magic can get rid of it OR kill it's caster.)

Raorr shake's his head and howls "By Imod's Greatness I won't have that Foul Spirit inhabit the heart. Begone Or I shall thrash your head upon the ground and make bread from the pulpy mass that remains."
Raorr shakes his head and lokks at the battle already ensued around him. "What a fight and I wasn't invited?" He smile an almost evil grin.
With a surprised look he looks at the two arrows in his armour "That was not nice but you have guts, and when your guts lay on the ground you will wish you didn't do that."
"So the little humans want to play shoot the taurs, dangerous game you play. Raorr likes dangerous games"
Raorr initially thinks to wait for Kenisha's orders but decides to take the intiative, noting Kalon under one of the humans initially think to use him as a step ladder. But then decides to move towards the wall between the to 'archers' and saying "You think standing there is going to save you from me human?" as he moves he draws forth his glaive and swings at one of them with umph
OOC: Carl I sent you email. Raorr is charging with a reach weapon (glaive) which in a minotaurs hands should have total 15ft reach should be enough to reach the r3 and possibly threaten the r4 if position is favourable (your call).

Leets Sunday March 31st, 2002 6:03:57 PM
When he realized that he hit only air, and once the big hand disappeared, Leets quickly comes backward.
«I never thought I would say such a thing, but please Kale ! Tell me you picked this lock! »
The young centaur paladin tightens his grip on the handles of his shield, always trying to protect Ceira and Kenisha, becoming a cover himself.
« Kenisha, Ceira, get us rid of those spellcasters, our shields can stop arrows but not magic ! You must go away with the arch ! Flat-Top, Brahmah ! We must hold on until this door is opened ! Even our lives are less important than the Heart ! »
Ceira Karwyn d4+1=4 d4+1=2 Sunday March 31st, 2002 11:49:02 PM
"It's times like this that I wish I had learned some defensive spells in my free time!" says Ceira as she prepares her next flurry of Magic Missles. (W1=4dmg, W2=2dmg)
Kenisha d4+1=3 d4+1=5 Sunday March 31st, 2002 11:54:32 PM
Kenisha nods at Ceira and adds, "Unfortunately, sorcerers don't learn spells the same way... they just sort of come to us."
She then fires off her Magic Missile, concentrating both missiles at Wizard#1 for a total of 8 HP.
Brahmah d20+2=15 d20+5=7 Monday April 1st, 2002 3:11:35 AM

Readying an Action to step through the door and slaughter W1. (After door is open, Brahmah attacks using Power Attack missing W1 if he's still within reach when the door opens.) Dodging W1 for 22 AC.
Carl: Wizard 1 is on the upper storey, you are all at ground level. He is firing at you from a window above you.
OOC:It is real easy to tell that Brahmah is at least soar if not in serious pain.

Kale works furiously at the locked door, barely avoiding the blazing globe. The lock, though nothing particularly special, fails to give way. With enough time Kale is sure he can get it, but how much time does he have?
Despite the high degree of cover afforded by R3's location, Roarr's devastating assault catches him full in the face and completely by surprise. He colapses in a shower of blood, looking to be in a pretty bad way. You hear a cry of "Tyro!" and the Half-Elven R4 also pulls back from the window, and out of sight.
The hail of Magic Missiles tear into Wizard 1, causing him to scream and fall back, and the Flaming Sphere to stop moving. Wizard 2 is hurt, but snarls down "You'll pay for that, you scum! You'll die like that witless charmed priestling you so conveniently killed for us!"
Twin Magic Missiles arrow down from his fingertips, catching Kenisha full in the chest (10HP damage), then the mage vanishes from the window and back out of sight.
R1's arrow burrows straight into Roarr's back (7 HP), and R2, a particularly ugly half orc, fires his crossbow bolt deep into Kalon's thigh (8HP). He cries "A gift from Neega!" Then, having seen the fate suffered by his colleague Tyro at Roarr's hands he yells "Pull back!"
Now there are no targets at the windows. From up above everything has gone quiet.
Meanwhile inside the building Zeoll scambles to his feet just as the female dwarf charges in, taking a mighty hack with her dwarven waraxe. The weapon bites deep into his arm (12HP), and the warrior woman displays black and yellow teeth as she grins at the Wemic. "That'll learn ya not ta cross Dagnal, pussy cat! C'mon, have another taste!"
Zeoll, please make a Listen check.
Kale d20+7=27 Monday April 1st, 2002 7:11:33 PM
"I think I have it this time." Kale says as he looks carefully at the lock(pick locks check of 27). "If its not open this time, break it down."
Brahmah Monday April 1st, 2002 8:21:46 PM
Realizing in the heat of combat that that W1 is actually at the window above him, Brahmah reverses his thinking and concentrates on the task at hand. Getting inside that door Kale is working so carefully on.
Brahmah says to Kale, "Stand back when your ready for me Kale. I'll bust down that twig!" (Readying to bust it down if it's not open this time) Brahmah watches Kale attempt to open the door. "Kale?! Hurry!" Brahmah then realizes that perhaps he needs to shut up so his friend can work. "Sorry Kale."
Flat-top Monday April 1st, 2002 9:16:13 PM
"Kale if you fail this time step bacl and I'll start bashing the door and brahmah will be here to finish the job. Ceria I'll have to lower the shield to do a job on that door, can you handle things, Darling?" Flat-top trying to reashore Ceria.
Kenisha d20+3=7 Monday April 1st, 2002 11:15:18 PM
Kenisha's breathing is labored and every now and again she winces in pain as she scans the windows; watching for any targets to cast at. (Spot roll = 7)
"We need to get out of this shooting gallery." she says between clenched teeth. She stumbles at one point and has to lean heavily against Kalon for support.
Kalon the Wemic Monday April 1st, 2002 11:54:13 PM
Continuing to protect Kenisha with his own body he calls out,"Yes we need that door opened maybe Raorr and Brahmah would be best to bash it down"
OOC: Still trying to give her cover with my body
Leets d20+2=13 Tuesday April 2nd, 2002 2:56:06 AM
"There are fleeing! We must stop them!"
Leets slowly lower his shield to be sure no bowman still stands at the windows, and then considers the empty alcoves up his head, Kale working on the door, Kenisha who doesn't seem to be ok and Flat-Top about to charge the door.
"Hey Brahmah! Just got an idea!"
Leets then stands under the window were was W2, sheathing his sword, looks at Brahmah and slaps on his own shoulder, then firmly holding his shield with his two hands (at waist-height).
"Try to be light-footed my minotaur friend!"
Ceira Karwyn Tuesday April 2nd, 2002 10:17:44 AM
"I think I'll be okay Flat-top, thanks. The least I can try to do is to shield the enemy's vision while we try to rush in." Ceira looks around to note the details of the room. She then pulls out a bit of fleece and throws it in the direction of the windows of R1 and R2 and casts Silent Image. The image will be of an empty room. While maintaining her concentration, she slowly moves up against the wall directly below R4 to avoid any of his arrows.

Though it is not moving, the blazing sphere continues to blaze away next to you as you work to get into the building.
Kale grits his teeth and tries again. This time he closes his eyes, hears the lock tumblers clicking into place... It works! The door swings open... within you just have time to register a desk, a chair, a door against the far wall, a passage leading off to the right...
And two heavily bearded, black clad dwarves, both swinging greataxes, standing in wait behind the door, aiming straight for Kale! The first blow connects powerfully (11 HP), though Kale is able to pull back sufficiently to avoid the second swing.
The door is so small, and you are all so large, that only one Taur may enter at a time. The Dwarves are hanging back, using the doorframe as partial cover. "Please, c'mon in!" grins one.
Ceira's brilliantly inventive gambit flickers into existence over the two windows, but she and Kenisha see no further sign of activity up there.
Inside, Zeoll is in serious trouble. The creak of a floorboard and a scuffed footstep overhead alert him of the impending sneak attacks at the last possible moment, allowing him to twist out of the path of one of the arrows flying at him. Unfortunately he is not quick enough to dodge the other, which catches him in the shoulder causing him to gasp in pain (6 HP).
Dagnal the Dentinely Challenged Dwarf (D4) laughs, and hacks again with her waraxe, connecting again with another telling blow (6HP). "You're goin down, putty tat!" she snorts with obscene amusement. Zeoll is bleeding heavily now, though he fights bravely on.
Flat-top Tuesday April 2nd, 2002 4:33:52 PM
Since Kale got hurt,Flat-top pull Kale back toward himself. "All right I'll bow to you Brahmah, GO in first and show these little runts a thing or two and I'll be right behind you." Flat-top Yells to Kalon, "Over here Kales need you!".
ooc Flat-top will go in next unless the leader Kenisha tell him other wise.
Brahmah d20+5=19 d4+7=8 d4=3 Tuesday April 2nd, 2002 7:42:50 PM
"DWARVES!" His voice rumbles into the room." Go ahead and HIDE like some sort of weasel. Dirt lovers, come to meet Brahmah face to face!" Turning back to Flat-top, Brahmah grumbles something about needing healing or preferring healing before going in. "This fight isn't honorable." He says in shock and maybe a little torn on how to proceed. Then with resolve says, "Dwarves, your going to get your wish!" Brahmah walks into the room. Dodging D1 for AC 22 and attacking D2 with AC 21. Power Attack, a single attack on D2, hitting AC 19 for 11 points of DMG on D2.
Kenisha d4+1=4 d4+1=5 Tuesday April 2nd, 2002 10:02:46 PM
"Ceira, keep an eye on those upper windows, I'm going to see if I can't give Brahmah some support against those dwarves." Kenisha says with a wince. To everyone else she says, "We need to find out what happened to Zeoll. Raorr, when you get up there, if you can, look for him, okay?"
With that Kenisha moves back so that she can see through the door and the dwarves inside. If she can see them, she will fire a Magic Missile at D1 for 9HP.
Ceira Karwyn Tuesday April 2nd, 2002 10:51:16 PM
"You got it!" responds Ceira as she maintains her concentration of her Silent Image on the two windows on the opposite wall. "Just watch out for any activity from those windows above me." she adds.
Leets d20+2=12 d20+2=21 d20+2=15 Wednesday April 3rd, 2002 5:18:00 AM
In the chaos of the battle, Leets is not sure if Brahmah just didn't see him, or if he isn't interested...At the same time, an ambush is set agaisnt Kale behind the door that suddenly opens, and the young centaur paladin is pretty sure that some among his comrades in arms are seriously wounded. However, time is for battle, and haling will come later... With this in mind, Leets tries something to get rid of one of the dwarves: taking his rope on his side, he quickly makes a slipknot to finally have a lasso. He then throws it from where he is, trying to grab whatever belongs to the dwarves, and then pulls with all his strength.
Zeoll and Gannet d20+34=52 d20+3=13 Wednesday April 3rd, 2002 6:42:07 AM
Zeoll's action this round consists entirely of movement, so that he provokes no attack of opportunity in withdrawing from combat.
The liontaur backs off from the dwarf, out of range of that ax. He heads towards the top of the map, about 15 feet -- enough for a running start. Then he runs towards the bottom of the map, leaping up to the ledge from which he had fallen before. (Jump check 52 clears up to 20 feet up, which should do.) With any luck, he lands gracefully. (I hope no reflex save is necessary, but if so, Zeoll rolled a 13.) He kneels to gain a +2 AC bonus vs missiles (PHB p132).
Gannet squawks in alarm and tries to fly away out of the building.

Flat Top helps Kale back and moves in after Brahamah, as Kale heads to one of the windows and attempts to climb, but cannot find purchase (Climb DC 20). Roarr, having failed to scale the wall before has more luck this time (Made a Climb check 23). It will take him this round to clamber in through the window (no attack).
Suddenly the blazing sphere, which has been sputtering away quietly for a while, leaps into life once more! It springs straight at Flat Top (Ref save vs DC 18 or suffer 9 HP damage)!
It's caster makes a total hash of staying out of sight however (Nat 1!). In attempting to keep out of view W1 manages to pull down the entire curtain rail above his window, leaving himself in full view! He looks as foolish as he undoubtedly feels.
Back down below Brahmah launches himself bravely into battle, catching D2 a powerful blow. Though bleeding, the dwarf grits his teeth and fights on.
Kenisha's Magic Missile sears into D1's flesh, and briefly causes his beard to sizzle. "Aargh!" he yells, "Thjat smarts! I'll 'ave you fer that, horsie!"
Leets' attempt to make a lassoo fails (DC 15 to make it at speed, and using an untrained weapon incurs a to hit penalty of -4, as does ranged attacks into melee).
Zeoll darts away from his attacker, then turns and leaps. He land between the two startled rogues (facing the Half Elf R4), who suddenly are looking rather worried now that their target is so much closer.
R1 fires at point blank range, catching Zeoll from behind (3 HP), but the sight of several hundred pounds of furious Wemic is too much for the Half Elf, and his panicked shot whistles past Zeoll's ear. The Half Elf drops his shortbow and fumbles for the rapier at his belt.
Behind the terrified rogue Zeoll spots one of the spellcasters (W2) who's eyes widen in disbelief at the prodigious leap, then narrow again as he begins to chant dark arcane magiks. Zeoll suddenly feels icy tendrils of terror clutching at his very soul (Cause Fear, WILL save vs DC 17 or -2 to attack, damage and saving throws for 3 rounds, and flee from W2).
Downstairs D1 shouts orders to D2 and a newly arrived dwarf D3. "Gut the beast! Hack him to bits! Slice his liver!"
He emphasises his point by missing completely, but his companion does not. D2's greataxe feebly nicks Brahmah's thigh (1 HP).
Behind them D3 roars with laughter "You two fight like ruddy gnomes, boyo! Pathetic! Stand aside and let a real dwarf show you how it's done!"
"Sharrup, Taklinn!" growls R1, clearly the leader. "Sharrup or I'll do you too once I'm done wi' these freaks!"
Zeoll and Gannet (afraid!) d20+12=16 d20+34=54 d8+1=4 Wednesday April 3rd, 2002 5:06:25 PM
The magic takes hold and alters Zeoll's emotions to terror. Even the residual lingering effects of his song fail to help (missed by one even with my natural +10 and a +2 from the Bardic Song! darn!)
The liontaur runs away from the Wizard (W2), making a leap over the Rogue (R1). Fear propels him up and up! (natural 20 on the check! Jump check 54 clears over 80 feet across and 20 feet up!) All Zeoll wants to do is clear the Rogue without provoking an attack of opportunity, landing and moving into the corner out of sight of the frightful scary wizard. That should be about 40 feet -- a move-equivalent action. If he can, when out of sight of the wizard and about 10 to 15 feet from the rogue, he will cast cure light wounds on himself if he can. If not, he will continue to flee to the best of his ability.
If he does cast the spell, he cures 4 hp damage.
Gannet continues to try to fly away, or hides in the rafters if he cannot.

Brahmah smiles at the last scratch made by the pathetic dwarf. "How cute!!" As he looks down at the dwarf as his toothy smile leaves his face. Stepping 5 feet toward D2, now Dodging D2 for AC 22 to move from the doorway so his friends may enter. With both Falchions out and ready to strike the dwarf, Brahmah now swinging both curved blades like some sort of dervish. (Power Attack from both attacks, with the first attack at the dwarf, Sundering the greataxe with the second attack> doesn't hit the dwarf, but with all luck the dwarfs greataxe is getting whacked, rolled 18 modified 19 attack roll (crit threat for a Falchion rolling 20 to confirm), dwarf makes opposed attack roll, if he fails his axe takes 23 points (greataxe hardness 5, hit points 10, pg 136 PHB). If the dwarfs axe doesn't splinter, Brahmah needs to reconsider his tactics.
"Haha!" Brahmah laughs in triumph. (even if the attack doesn't succeed.)

The young centaur paladin let his rope fall on the grounds, having finished a bad knot that will serve to nothing...
"Oh they are coming back! Their magic is operating once again! COME ON COWARDS! And we'll see what effect have my hooves on your gums!"
A little bit frustrated of not being able to help Brahmah, Leets considers the web wall, a dangerous trap if things were getting bad...
Quickly, he makes his quarterstaff jump into his hand, and dives it into the blazing sphere (which look really hot, considering the smell of burned centaur hair), to set the staff ablaze. He then try to make the web burn, attacking it with his burning quarterstaff.

Inside the building Zeoll turns tail, leaps over R1 and takes a left, drawing to a halt as he almost runs into a crossbow weilding half-orc (R2). The Half Orc curses, drops his crossbow and pulls out a heavy mace, yelling to R1 "Ivellios! Flank the monster!" The Elf R1 calls back "Aye, Neega, careful now! It's hurt bad, but there's fight in it yet!" and he draws a wicked-looking morningstar.
As the two Rogues begin to manoever Zeoll has time to desperately gulp down his CLW potion (4HP).
On the other wing of the building Roarr clambers through the window and spots the wizard W2. The spellcaster's look of triumph turns to one of terror as he sees the enormous barbarian directly opposite him. "Rannos! An opponent!" he shouts, and R4 comes running around the corner, rapier in hand. The Half Elf does not look best pleased that the mage has granted him this particular assignment, but raises his weapon anyway, and closes fast, stabbing wildly as he does so. His attack doesn't even come close. "Yer not payin' me enough fer this, Delacourt!" he growls back at the Wizard.
The dark wizard Delacourt (W2), seeing that his protector is likely not long for this Wold, weaves his arms in an intricate pattern, mutters some words of power, and with a twinkling effect he vanishes from sight!
Down in the courtyard FlatTop just barely manages to dodge the ball of fire (Ceil, I rolled your REF save and got 18: you forgot to do it last post), but still cannot get past Brahmah into the room.
Brahmah hacks mightily at D2's axe, but the small warrior is wise to the tactic, and deflects the blow (opposed attack 20). His return swipe misses, however.
Kenisha's Magic Missile strikes R1, causing him to yelp in pain. "Will ye stop doin' that!?" he yells, clearly in some distress. "Wait yer turn and get chopped up like everyone else!"
And he swings at Brahmah in fury, catching his forearm (5HP).
The jovial Taklinn (D3) just laughs harder than ever. "C'mon. Eberk, let me have a go!" he chortles. "Surely you can do better than that?"
Up above this battle W1 stares down in disbelief at the torn curtain still clutched in his hand. "Oh sh-" he begins, before Kale's arrow hits him in the throat, and Ceira's Magic Missile catches him right between the eyes. He flies backwards, back out of sight, and the Flaming Sphere stops moving once more.
This allows Leets to successfully light the end of his quarterstaff and set the webs alight.
Kenisha d4+1=2 d4+1=4 Thursday April 4th, 2002 11:04:19 AM
Kenisha answers the indignant dwarf's question with one of her own. "Why should I just stand here and let you murder us? No, I think I'll keep at you until you either die or leave us alone. And since you are a follower of the greatest evil to threaten the Wold to date, I dare say you don't have the brains to flee. So, die!"
She casts another Magic Missile at D1 for 6 HP.
Zeoll and Gannet (frightened) d100=51 d20+4=14 Thursday April 4th, 2002 12:49:10 PM
Zeoll shrinks back against the wall, stepping five feet sideways -- hopefully out of range of the weapons of his foes, at least for a moment.
He casts a Grease spell on the half-orc (R2). He carefully positions it so that even if his target makes his save (Reflex vs DC 15), he will have to stand in the Grease if he wants to flank. (see link below)
With any luck, his five foot step puts him out of Attack of Opportunity range when he casts his spell. (If not, his Concentration check if needed is 14.)
Then Zeoll thinks to himself, "If only I had a good long hunting spear with which to keep the enemy away!"
Failing that, he prepares his greatsword, longsword, and claws for battle.

Turning to Kale, "I have and idea to continue our teamwork. Walk over to where Kenisha is and hold up both of your hands as if grabbing something. I will try to cast an illusion of the grisly remains of that wizard we just skewered. Hopefully, this'll stifle the morale of those pesky midgets. Oh! And try to look mean and menacing." she giggles and gives him a wink. The first walks to the center of the room to get out of view of D2.

DM Carl: Slice and Dice Friday April 5th, 2002 12:39:23 PM
Kenisha's Magic Missile strikes Eberk (D1) hard. He is still on his feet, but only just. "Aaarrghh! STOP THAT!" he yells, beside himself with pain and frustration.
Brahamah's twin blows strike D2's shoulders simultaneously, slicing his arms clean off. The dwarf stares at his pumping stumps in stupefied horror before keeling over backwards, stone dead. This allows Brahmah to push into the room, giving FlaT Top some room.
Taklinn (D3) seems to find this hilarious. "Oh dear, old Ollom's pretty 'armless now!" he guffaws, as he leaps up onto the desk and cheerfully informs Brahmah "Here fella, let me show you how a real dwarf fights!" And he swings his rather puny handaxe, missing by a mile. For some reason this just seems to make him laugh even harder.
Kale's sudden appearance, seemingly clutching the grisly remains of the wizard, half in either hand, finally causes Eberk (D1) to snap. He turns to flee, inviting a AoO from both Flat Top and Brahmah.
Taklinn, just carries on laughing. "Hah! It was bad enough when there was only one Morex!" he bellows, waving his handaxe at the two bloody halves. "Marteaus preserve us from two of the bugger!"
Kalon smashes the window without incurring any damage to his fist. He can see no-one in the room in front of him.
Leets continues to destroy the web, as the Flaming Sphere winks out of existence behind him.
Zeoll's spell causes the Half Orc Neega's (R2) feet to whip out from under him, and he lands with a bump on his rump. Ivellios the Elf (R1) swings with his morning star, but misses by a whisker as Zeoll sways back out of the path of the blow. It seems the Grease spell may just have saved the Wemic's life. For now at least...
Both of Roarr's blows connect, but incredibly the Half Elf Rannos (R4) remains standing. Though bleeding heavily you have to admire the hireling's courage (though perhaps not his intelligence) as he lunges at the huge minotaur, catching him with his rapier (4HP).
(Roarr, please make a Spot check)

(Power Attack from both attacks, hitting AC's 18 and 7, the first strike lands (hopefully solid) for 10 points of DMG on D3.)
Brahmah laughs, "Well, if your a real dwarf, I AM NOT impressed!!"

Kalon peers over the wall and seeing the way is clear responds to Ceira,"No it seems clear I'm going in to see if I can find where Zeoll went."
Placing his front paws at the edge careful not to slash them with remaining glass. He attempts to pull himself up enough that he can roll over the wall and into the room calling out.
"Zeoll where are you?"
Zeoll and Gannet (frightened) d20+4=18 d8+1=4 Saturday April 6th, 2002 10:17:59 PM
If Zeoll hears Kalon, he calls back in Taur, "I am herre, fighting an orrc and an elf!"
Then the liontaur attempts to cast a Cure Light Wounds spell on the defensive (trying not to provoke an attack of opportunity).
His Concentration roll of 18 is two more than he needs! His spell cures 4 more hit points of damage.
He looks around to see if he can see Gannet or any of the other Chosen.
And then he is very happy to feel the magical fear lift from his soul. (That's three rounds of fear, right Carl? By the way, the Grease only lasts two rounds.)

Brahmah catches Eberk (D1) full across the back as he attempts to flee. With a shriek he goes down, shudders, and lies still. The minotaur then turns his attention to the plainly demented Taklinn (D3), who is skipping and hopping as he battles on, a crazed grin on his face. Brahmah's falchion opens up a gash across his upper chest, but it seems nothing can spoil this madman's mood. "Ooh, made me see stars!" he chortles, then lashes back with his handaxe, catching Brahmah in the shoulder (5 HP). "How was it for you, darling?" he teases, continuing to prance about like a fool.
Flat Top's morningstar strikes Taklinn heavily on the shoulder, missing his weaving head by inches (Ceil, you rolled a Crit Threat. I made the second roll, hitting AC 14 (a miss), so no Crit. Sorry!). Still the dwarf shows no sign of fear, as he sticks his tongue out and blows a long raspberry at Flat Top.
Leets manages to burn away the last of the webs securing the gate. It remains locked, however. Ludlow used a key to get in.
Kenisha is unable to get a clear line of sight on Taklinn, (made Spot Check to see him through the melee vs DC 15; rolled a 5), and is forced to hold her attack.
Kenisha, Kale and Leets, please make a Listen check. Ceira please make a Spot and Listen check. Ceira joins Kalon, and covers him as the Wemic first tries (and fails) to climb in the window, then takes a jump at it that lands him on the raised platform inside. He still sees no one, though the sounds of battle upstairs are evident. Ahead of him he sees the wide curved staircase leading up. Kalon calls up, and hears Zeoll call back, though his words are suddenly cut short in a roar of pain and the sound of something heavy hitting the floor.

Kalon calls up, and hears Zeoll call back, though the wemic's words are suddenly cut short in a roar of pain and the sound of something heavy hitting the floor up above.
Upstairs Zeoll's luck has finally run out. Neega (R2), cursing the slippery ground beneath his feet, springs back upright (Reflex 26) and swings for Zeoll, striking the wounded Wemic hard with his mace (11HP), while Ivellios (R1), adopting a flanking position, lands a simultaneous blow with his morningstar (11HP). The brave liontaur, who had just been calling out to Kalon downstairs, roars briefly in pain, then collapses to the ground, his lifeblood gushing from his numerous wounds (I make Zeoll on -7 HP).
Rannos (R4) crumples under the force of Roarr's blow. Roarr is too preoccupied to notice anything else of particular interest (failed Spot check). The minotaur races along the balcony, only to see Zeoll cruelly cut down before his eyes. The two dark-clad mercenaries turn to face Roarr, a new confidence in their eyes, as they raise their blood-drenched weapons and beckon him on. "Come on, beast, if you want some of what we gave your friend here!" grins Ivellios.
Becoming very anxious and aggitated, Kenisha tromps forward and back then finally rears up on her hind legs to try and see the last dwarf that is impeding them. (Spot check=12) If she sees him this time she will cast a Daze Spell on him (DC=15 due to Spell Focus:Enchantment).

Leets d20+2=19 Monday April 8th, 2002 4:23:53 PM
"Of course Lady Kenisha, always ready to serve!" Says Leets, getting a last disgusted look at the consumed web, and then at the locked door. The young centaur paladin holds his palm above Kenisha's painful wound, and channels the power given by his faith through an aura around his hand to heal the leader (5HP/9 per day). Once he has finished, he pricks up his ear, frowning his brows.
"Did you hear that? What is it?"
Anticipating a new ambush, or reinforcements for the ennemy, Leets unsheathes his sword, and adjust his shield...
Kalon the Wemic Monday April 8th, 2002 8:32:13 PM
Kalon hears something heavy hit the floor and then calls out again,"Zeoll...zeoll are you alright?"
Not getting a response he moves as fast as he can up the stairs. Calling back to Ceira,"Ceira back me up if you can"

Brahmah gets extremely upset, muscles ripping over the minotaurs body as the dwarf grinds deep into his shoulder with the gigantic axe.
(Power Attack, two attacks, first hitting AC 19 crit threat hitting 17, for 12 DMG. If it's a crit, for 11 more.)
"Haha, your dead stout folk!"

Raorr, inspired by Zeoll's falling d20+7=25 d8+7=12 d8+7=13 d8+7=8 Tuesday April 9th, 2002 10:35:21 AM
Raorr watches the Wemic Bard fall. The Minotaur unable to understand the language of the taunting enmeies begins to charge forward, sensing that his comarade's spirit has joined the chorus of voices powering his rage.
He draws the magic greatsword and while still weilding the shield in his other hand he attempts to headbutt his foe with the traditional charge of a minotaur.

Brahmah and FlatTop both hack into Taklinn (D3), lifting the dwarf clear off his feet and sending him flying over the desk with the power of their combined attack. "H..hey, can't you take a joke?" coughs the dying dwarf, and then he slumps back, dead.
Flat Top moves towards the corridor, and Kale moves into the room behind him.
Back in the courtyard the Dwarf with the ugly teeth that originally attacked Zeoll makes a late reappearance. She creeps out through a secret door in the wall, hoping to catch the Taurs unawares. However the door hinges creak as they open, and Leets is able to get in a protective position in front of Kenisha before the dwarf can attack. Instead she swings for Leets, but misses hopelessly. There is a growing terror in her eyes, as the realisation dawns that she is going to die here today.
Ceira fails to get in through the window, finding it just too high and awkward to get through. Frustrated she turns in time to see the female dwarf attack Leets, and also notes that there seems to be movement at the doorway; her companions have finally broken in.
Kenisha, her spell prepared against Taklinn, sees him fall before she can cast. However her sharp hearing picks up the approach of the dwarf, and she is able to switch the target of her daze spell. The dwarf slows and stops, suddenly slack-jawed.
Inside Kalon hares up the stairs, arriving at the top in time to see Roarr crush Ivellios (R1) against the wall. The Elf slides down in a smear of blood, quite dead. Stepping past the prone body of Zeoll, Neega (R2) takes a mighty swing at Roarr. The Half Orc misjudges hopelessly, slamming his mace into the ground instead (Nat 1, loses attack next round as he recovers).
Then, behind Roarr, the wizard Delacourt (W2) suddenly reappears, bringing his hand (which seems to glow bright green) smartly down between the Minotaur's shoulder blades. The green glow spreads over Roarr's body, and the minotaur finds himself struggling to shake off a dreadful coldness and weight in his limbs (Ghoul Touch: Roarr must make a Fort check vs DC 18 or be paralysed for 7 rounds. If you fail you exude a carrion stench causing retching and nausea in a 10ft radius (excluding the caster). Those in the radius will need to make a Fort check or suffer a --2 penalty to all attack, damage, save, ability and skill rolls until the spell ends.)
Meanwhile Zeoll continues to slip away (-8 HP), his life blood draining inexorably from his wounds. Up in the rafters Gannet calls franticaly, flapping back and forth in a frenzy of indecision and fear.
Flat-top Tuesday April 9th, 2002 12:40:34 PM
OOC: I'm going to guess here I don't have a new map.
After doing the hairy little dwarf in. Flat-top pushes the desk so that the rest of the party will have an easier time getting through. Flat-top moves over so Kale can get in and go down the hall way in case there's another door. "OK! Let's Go. This way." Then will follow Kale.

Leets glances at the female dwarf that just appeared with a mixing of pity and hatred, he then rears up, lifting high his sword, and falls with all his strength and weight on his foe.
"All I can do is to send you before the gods! There they will judge your for this sacrilege as they will do with Marteaus when his time comes!"
Brahmah d20+5=20 d4+7=8 d4=1 Tuesday April 9th, 2002 6:18:46 PM
"Kale, Flat-top, I'm going to assist Ceira, Leets and Kenisha out in the court!"
Bleeding and stumbling about, the huge minotaur looks like a walking butchers shop. Blood pouring from his wounds.
He steps out into the center chamber, he moves to meet the dwarf who is on Leets. With a Falchion raised high, Brahmah swings with might at D4.
(Power Attack, one attack.) Hitting AC 20 for 9 points of DMG on D4.
Huffing and puffing, fur matted by blood, speaking in Tauric, Brahmah says, "I'm very badly hurt friends! I'm afraid this is the end for this Chosed!"
Ceira Karwyn d20+2=13 d4+2=4 Tuesday April 9th, 2002 8:38:01 PM

Kalon the Wemic Tuesday April 9th, 2002 10:16:53 PM
Reaching the top of the stairs Kalon moves around to the sounds of fighting. Spotting Raorr in the middle he looks trying to see.
"Zeoll where are you?" he calls out. With no response he runs to Raorr's aid.
Raorr d20+10=18 d20+9=13 d20+4=11 Tuesday April 9th, 2002 11:36:52 PM
Raorr shudders for a moment the unatural chill rippliing throiugh his soul until he feels the warth of the chorus shake off the effects.
"SORCERY" he yells with a fury "Your foul magics won't stop me" He raises the GReatsword high into the air and swings down at the wizard. Not willing to take any chances he follows through with aa gore from his horns.
Kenisha Wednesday April 10th, 2002 1:22:30 AM
"Brahmah, your bravery does you credit, but please take a breather. I know, I've almost fallen down this day as well." Kenisha tells the bleeding minotaur.
To all of the remaining Taurs she says, "I'm heading in after the others. We still don't know of Zeoll's fate. Once you've dealt with this one, make sure no more are going to sneak up on us, okay?""
With that she will follow Flat-top and Kale (and hopefully making it up to the second floor).
Kale d20+2=19 Wednesday April 10th, 2002 9:36:39 AM
"I think that there might be some stairs down this hallway." Kale says to Flat-Top "I think I saw some through that window."(made int check of 19) then Kale moves down the hallway as far as he can go.
DM Carl: Dark Embrace d6=6 d100=75 d20+3=10 Wednesday April 10th, 2002 12:50:51 PM
Leets, Brahmah and Ceira team up on the dazed dwarf and she goes down under the torrent of blows. She is out cold, but not dead yet (Ceira you got a flanking bonus, so you hit, which was the difference between the dwarf staying upright or falling). With an almighty metallic clang, the gates behind you fly open, and Brother Jandar stands before you, a heavily cloaked messenger by his side. Concern is writ large on the Gold Dragon's face.
Flat Top moves to one side, allowing Kale and Kenisha inside the building. From upstairs you hear the sounds of battle as you approach the staircase.
Kalon races along the balcony towards the conflict, but cannot engage this round. Roarr just manages to shake off the wizard's spell, but is sufficiently shaken to fail in his retaliatory attacks. As the Half Orc (R2) adjusts his grip on his mace the wizard (W2) darts in, chanting words of eldritch power, and he attempts to strike with a glowing blue hand. (Chill Touch). The minotaur is easily able to dodge the arcane attack, but Roarr is also unable to connect (AoO)as the dark garbed caster skips back out of range again. "All those who oppose the will of the Dark Lord will fall against his Power!" shrieks the spellcaster, a maniacal gleam in his eyes. "None can stand against us!"
Zeoll, unaided, continues to slip deeper into death's dark embrace (-9HP).
Leets Wednesday April 10th, 2002 2:28:31 PM
Leets gets a look at the fallen dwarf, and nods at Ceira and Brahmah to thank them.
« She is tougher than I thought. This city hides even more surprises than it seems...We should keep this one alive, to make her talk about her boss later... »
He then considers Brahmah's call, and reacts just when Jandar appears. His legs bring him in the direction Brahmah pointed out (to Zeoll...)while his eyes remain locked on the Gold Dragon...
« What's happening over there ! Zeoll ! What happened to Zeoll ! »
If he manages to reach Zeoll this turn, Leets will fall his knees by his side, and prepares his healer's kit.
Brahmah Wednesday April 10th, 2002 5:57:01 PM
Speaking in Tauric, not able at this point to come up with any Common words; "I haven't seen Zeoll since we entered here! He went off about a minute ago."
Brahmah sees the gate open and instinctually positions himself between Ceira, Leets and the secret door and Jandar (whoever he is). Knowing Ludlow was a traitor, he's not taking any chances this time. "Oh look, more fun!" Still speaking in Tauric.
Readying for yet another onslaught, Brahmah will attack the messengers if they are indeed hostile. He also says in Tauric; to Ceira and Leets to enter and hide in the secret passage.
Kalon the Wemic Wednesday April 10th, 2002 7:06:12 PM
Kalon moves in close to see Zeoll lying amid a growing pool of his blood his last bloody breath seemingly departing. Without hesitating he leaves Raorr to deal with the two foes while he dives and rolls over to Zeoll. Past his startled foes he tries to stabilize Zeoll.
Ceira Karwyn Wednesday April 10th, 2002 9:17:32 PM
Ceira walks up behind Leets and whispers, "Psst. Can you try to detect evil in the direction of Jandar."
Turning to Jandar Ceira points accusedly and yells, "JANDAR!!! What is the meaning of this!?!? This was a trap but we do not go down so easily. Please tell me you're not involved in this. We have enough of a burden on our shoulders with our current quest. I do not wish to quarrel with the Gold Dragons. Were all those epic stories all made up or are you as noble as people say you are?"
Kenisha d20+3=13 d4+1=4 d4+1=4 Thursday April 11th, 2002 12:19:09 AM
Kenisha makes her way as best she can up the stairs and as fast as she can. (ooc- Didn't know if a check is necessary or not. If there is one needed I trust you Carl to roll it for me.)
Once at the top she will take stock of what is happening. (Spot check= 13) If she sees Zeoll down and Kalon trying to get to him, she will cast a Magic Missile spell at R2. If not she will cast the spell at W2. In either case the spell does a total of 8 HPs of damage)
If she sees Zeoll's condition, she will shout at the top of her lungs, "Leets! We need you up here now!"
Flat-top d20=15 Thursday April 11th, 2002 9:13:36 AM

"You killed Zeoll, orc, now I will finish you off" He roars.
DM Carl: What Price Victory? Thursday April 11th, 2002 11:20:00 AM
As Leets races off to find Zeoll, Ceira and Brahmah challenge the newly arrived Brother Jandar.
Jandar smiles gently at the bravery of these Taur. It is quite evident from just looking at the air of power around this man that he could destroy all of the Chosen without breaking a sweat. But instead of being affronted he looks apologetic. "My good friends, please, lower your weapons. You have nothing to fear from any of the Gold Dragons. I am only glad to find you alive and well." It is then that he notices Ludlow's gutted body on the ground ahead of him.
Taking stock of the scene of devastation and the grievous injuries evident, he continues, obviously feeling an explanation is neccessary;
"After you left I sent a messenger to locate Valdor with your message. It seems he was found much faster than I had anticipated, and the messenger was returned to me with the express command that I escort you personally to the High Priest. As I prepared to leave, another acolyte, sent from the High Priest, arrived at my door, asking if I knew where our friend Ludlow had got to. It seems he was expected at the temple some time ago. At once I suspected something was wrong, and called upon the wisdom of my God to guide me to you. Though it seems you have given a good account of yourselves. How fare your companions?"
Inside, Kenisha arrives at the top of the stairs and unleashes a Magic Missile at the Wizard (W2). It catches him full in the back and sends him sprawling to the ground, out cold.
Kalon, ignoring all risk to personal safety, dives through the enemy attacks and lands at Zeoll's side. Desperately attempting to staunch the flow of blood he hardly notices as Neega dies shrieking under Roarr's devastating attack. Using every ounce of speed and skill he can muster Kalon works feverishly to save the dying Wemic's life. Alas his bravery and frantic first aid work are all to no avail. The Wemic is too far-gone, his wounds too severe to be treated. Zeoll takes one shuddering, final breath...
...and then breathes no more.
Leets d20+6=21 Thursday April 11th, 2002 1:12:28 PM
As soon as Leets arrives by Zeoll's side, he drops his shield on the floor , and pulls up the cork of a phial with his teeth while unfolding a bandage.
"Mother, if you llok at me now, please lead my hands and help Zeoll stay still for a while, please!"
He does his best to heal his lethaly wounded wemic friend, and even spends the last remains of holy energy that he still has during the process, however, he doesn't know if it could be sufficient since Zeoll looks so bad.
Leets does all he can during a couple of seconds that look like eternity to him. Once he has done all he could, his hand drenched with blood, he looks at his friend lying, trying to see if htere still be hope for him...
Kalon the Wemic d20+3=22 Thursday April 11th, 2002 10:45:51 PM
Kalon sees the last shuddering breath of Zeoll,"Oh no you don't you're still needed." he bends down and pushes a deep breath into Zeoll's mouth. Using all the strength in his breath to try to get Zeoll to cling in there.
Brahmah Thursday April 11th, 2002 10:54:36 PM
Brahmah stands his ground in front of Jandar, with blood dripping from the nasty axe wounds, the arrow still pretruding from his chest and the singed hair from the Flaming Sphere. He looks rather pathetic and tired, but unshaken by Jandars words and keeping his Falchions out. He's not about to be dooped by another human traitor. Not knowing the fate that has befallen Zeoll, Brahmah takes a mental head count of the Chosen he saw in the fray, counts 7.
OOC: -34 of 35 hit points, Readying for a possible attack. He will refuse healing from anyone who is NOT Chosen and will resist those who are not until otherwise convinced they are friends.
Kenisha d20+3=22 Friday April 12th, 2002 12:04:26 AM
Kenisha advances and with a sad heart, assesses Zeoll's condition. (ooc- Heal Check of 22 to identify his state as dead).
Seeing that he is dead she start to keen loudly and wordlessly; large tears falling from her face.
Flat-top Friday April 12th, 2002 9:12:29 AM
Flat-top following Kenisha, see that the bird screeches and flies away. Stops and look to where Zeoll's crumple body lies. Flat-top heart grows heavy and in silent prayer 'May the gods receive you with open arms'. With a heavy heart Flat-top turns and retraces his hoof steps, because of Brahmah wounds, "Now I'll give this potion of serious wounds to Chosen Brahmah".
Kale Friday April 12th, 2002 9:46:36 AM
seeing Zeoll lying on the ground, Kale pulls his hood back over his head, hiding his face so his emotions cant be seen. a moment later he pulls out his dagger and makes a small cut on his finger. then he presses his finger into one of Zeoll's cuts for about a minuet, then he removes his hand, saying, "We have exchanged blood. I travel with you, and you travel with me. Good journey, my friend." then he stand back up and wipes at his face, though no one can see what he's wiping
Ceira Karwyn Friday April 12th, 2002 10:23:34 AM
"Your reasoning seems plausible Jandar." Ceira replies. "However, you must forgive me if I do not feel convinced. This is only my second contact with humans and in both cases, we ended up shedding blood. You can say that I've had a bad first impression. You ARE one of the Gold Dragons so perhaps it is wrong for me to pre-judge you but let's be frank here. I still barely know you and the Gold Dragons. I will have my eye on you Sir Jan--" Ceira cocks her head up towards the balcony as she hears Kenisha's keening. A look of concern crosses her face. Without saying anything more, she rudely dashes off into the direction where Kale, Flat-top, and Kenisha went.
When she reaches the top stairs, Ceira looks to where her friends are gathered around. Although she is used to seeing the bloody aftermath of battles, she can't help but have a gut wrenching feeling that all is not right. As she meanders closer, she gasps in horror to see a limp wemic sprawled out across the floor. "ZEOLL!!!!!!!" yells Ceira in a mournful cry. She runs next to his body and begins shaking it vigorously in the hopes of waking him up--refusing to believe his spirit has passed on.
DM Carl: The Cleansing of the Heartstone Friday April 12th, 2002 11:04:24 AM
Despite all your best efforts there is nothing to be done, it is simply too late. Zeoll is dead. (Save your Hero Point, Kalon!)
With heavy hearts, some openly weeping, some less openly, the Taurs carry their fallen comrade back down into the courtyard. Zeoll is placed upon the Heartstone Arc, as his companions gather round and silently express their grief. Jandar bows his head, and says nothing for a time.
After a suitable pause he speaks gently.
"Chosen of Domi, you have my deepest sympathy for your loss. I understand your anger and suspicion towards me. Your experiences with humans would seem to have been wholly negative thus far. And I cannot but feel I share some of the blame. If only I had stayed with you... still, I cannot believe that Ludlow was a traitor. I saw no duplicity in him, just a kind and slightly nervous soul. How could this have transpired?"
It takes very little time to get the wounded female dwarf conscious and talking. She is little more than a hireling, but she knows enough for you to piece together the puzzle. It seems there was an informant on your ship the Merry Mermaid, working for followers of the Dark Lord, who communicated details of your mission to his masters.
They were able to intercept Ludlow this morning, and it had been a simple matter for the mage Delacourt to Charm the gullible young man into believing that plans had been changed, and that the High Priest was to hold a surprise party in honour of his guests at the Green Tortoise Club (The cheery cry of "Surprise!" and look of astonishment on the dying man's face suddenly begin to make terrible sense). The only flaw in the plan was to underestimate the ferocity and cunning of the Chosen of Domi.
Jandar is saddened deeply by what has transpired, and offers to do his best to help. First he casts Heal, curing all damage sustained by the Chosen (for everyone who accepts his offer). Then he suggests they make all haste to the Temple of Light, and their rendezvous with the High Priest.
The High Priest is quickly filled in on recent events, and offers his condolences. "All may not be lost, Chosen Ones." He says. "Death is not necessarily the end... but we can discuss that later. The matter at hand is the cleansing of the Heartstone. Please, follow me."
The High Priest leads you to the High Altar, and bids you place the Heartstone there. He arranges the eight Chosen and himself around the stone in a circle, and asks you all to touch the stone and pray, in whatever manner you please, and to whatever Gods or powers you wish. Then he begins to chant, softly at first. A warm, subtle glow surrounds first him, then the Chosen, then the Heart itself. As his chanting grows louder you realise you are not alone; a choir of clerics now join with the chant, which slowly transforms into a strident hymn of joy and power.
Louder and louder the voices soar, as the Heartstone begins to glow with ever-greater radiance. The brightness and the song reach a crescendo, and then all is silent once more.
"It is done" says the High Priest, turning to you with a smile. "The Unholy taint left by the touch of Marteaus is lifted."
But the Heart, though noticeably lighter in both weight and appearance than before, remains dead and cold and stone.
Flat-top Friday April 12th, 2002 1:46:19 PM
Flat-top and some of the others brings the body of Zeoll down and they put it on the Arc. Flat listens to Jandar story about the events, witch made sense to him the sailors were acting strangely, then again sailors always act strangely. Flat-top will let himself be healed by this Brother Jandar, with no expression on his face.
When time arrives and all are ready, Flat-top will take his place at the Long rods of the Heartstone Arc and carry it to the High Priest in the Temple of Light. With the ceremony of singing and prayers over. Flat-top witnesses the heart change color, then settles to the same gray color. But He is satisfied that the curse is off.
Flat -top leans over to Kenisha and whispers, "Ask the High Priest how much to raise Zeoll?" He pauses then ask, "Please."
Brahmah Saturday April 13th, 2002 1:44:15 AM
After finding out about Zeoll, Brahmah gets noticably upset and kneels beside the body of his fellow Chosen. He doesn't cry, though at first it looks like he might, his face grows solemn then angry. The minotaur begins to beat his fists against the floor until his knuckles bleed. He watches Kales display, knods to him, he dabs his finger on a bloody knuckle, the huge minotaur offers up a bloody finger to Kale.
"Zeoll, Kale and Brahmah will travel together. We are all brethren! We are Chosen."
Brahmah is convinced after about a minute of Jandars speech that he's no traitor. "Jandar, of the Gold Dragons!" the minotaur shouts as he approaches the famous cleric. "I'm the one who killed this Ludlow traitor, and I will take the punishment. None of the other Chosen were involved with his death directly! It's in my right to offer my service of reparations!" The minotaur sailor kneels on one knee in front of the cleric, and places his Falchion in front of the Gold Dragon.
Jandar (DM Carl) Saturday April 13th, 2002 7:25:09 AM
The mighty cleric smiles down sadly at Brahmah. "Please, my friend, rise. Ludlow was killed in the heat of battle, and as a result of the machinations of the Dark Lord's followers. Though you may have struck the blow it is they who ultimately will have to answer for this crime."
He thinks for a moment, then continues "But I can see you are a proud and noble warrior, and feel that an injustice has been done. You feel there is a debt to be repayed. Very well, I have a service to ask of you.
I hereby command that you do everything in your power to restore the Heart. I do further command that you follow the path of the Chosen of Domi, and do your utmost in the Battles against the forces of the Dark Lord that are to come. Do this and you are released of your debt of servitude."
Adopting a slightly less formal tone and posture he asks Brahmah quietly "Is this acceptable to you?"
Kale Saturday April 13th, 2002 9:11:51 AM
after the ceremony and seeing that the heart still doenst beat Kale says "We traveled all this way and lost a friend, but it seems that we've failed." then he hangs his head down and moves away from the group

Leets stands up slowly, staggering slightly. Heavy teardrops are running along his cheeks, already stained by Zeoll's blood. However, the young paladin remains quiet and picks up his shield on the ground.
Suddenly, he throws it loudly on the wall, with a deep shout of sorrow. During a couple of seconds, he punches the wall with his clenched fists, his forehead against the wall. He finally turns in the direction of the others, and wipes his tears with his hand.
"Is it what our path will be made of? To see our gods and friends die helpless and then spend our lives trying to mend things?"
"Oh Domi-sparkle-in-all-gods didn't your children suffer enough? Will they have to shed your blood now flowing in their veins to make this heart beat again?"
"Oh please give me strength and courage to protect your servants, or let me die doing it, but don't allow them to fall before me performing such an holy quest..."
With those last words, Leets throws the blanket he had in his backpack on Zeoll's body, and also unsheathes his Pan's pipe.
"We will miss your voice my friend, but we will remember the songs..."
The young centaur then begins to blow in the pipe, playing a sad air Zeoll once sang.
Raorr stares at Leets, then 'mourns' Sunday April 14th, 2002 10:41:43 PM
"Are you going to make it, Centaur?" he says bluntly. "Or are you planning on joining the 'Holy Order of Imod's Wrath'." A small smile crosses the minotaurs face.
As cold as it may seem to others Raorr looks to Zeoll's fallen body and shakes his head. "Zeoll, I applaud your courage but, you should have left the charging ahead to those who were Chosen for that." He bends over Zeoll's still form and says "I think it's the ring, he's been acting real weird since he got it. My guess is it's cursed" He stands up and shakes his head. "Damn Sorcery, it seems so useful to many but in the end it's what will get you killed. Zeoll would still be with us if not for the ring." He nods his head and rubs his chin "I suggest we should have it destroyed, this way none of us get tainted from the curse."
Raorr begins to walk away, and returns to the bodies of the fallen foes, begining to search for his spoils of war. His first stop is of course to grab his faithful Glaive.
Kenisha Monday April 15th, 2002 12:07:57 AM
Kenisha nods to Flat-top but before she can bring up the subject, she listens to the others.
To Kale she says, "The Cleansing was just the first part, dear friend. Now we have to try and infuse some spirit into it."
After Raorr walks off she turns to the High Priest. "Good sir, thank you for helping us on our Quest. Now I have another request of you. If it is at all possible, we would like to try and raise our dear companion, Zeoll, from the dead. Is it possible? And what will be requires to do so?"
Ceira Karwyn Monday April 15th, 2002 1:04:34 AM
While mourning Zeoll's heroic efforts, Ceira remains silent and keeps to herself. But out of respect for Jandar, she walks up to him and says is a hoarse voice. "I am truly sorry about what I said."
After the High Priest is done with his business, Ceira walks up to him and bows low in reverence and also in thanks for his efforts. "Thank you."
Out of curiosity, Ceira walks up to Zeoll's still body and lightly touches his cheek to get a blood stain on her finger. She then walks over to the cleansed Heart of Domi and touches it.
Kalon the Wemic Monday April 15th, 2002 10:51:28 AM
Sitting quietly staring at the body he sighs softly to himself.
"I was to slow and not skilled enough to save him" he thinks to himself, "If my skills had been better he would still be alive"
Then moving his hand to over Zeoll's heart,"I do not know how this noble and brave heart could have fallen. I do not know how your death serves the world and the future but your strength and courage should serve as a beacon to us all."
Standing up he moves away from the group to think about the battle and to mourn the passing of Zeoll. After a number of minutes of reviewing the battle i his mind he approaches Kenisha. Asking her to step aside with him he looks at her a look of hesitation in his eyes,"You know I love you with all my heart and that I voted for you to be leader..." he pauses then continues," I feel though that I must mention this to you. All of us had our own parts in Zeoll's death me, you even Zeoll himself. You are a fine leader and I will continue to follow you onto death. However during battle you don't direct the battle to any concerted effort. I will once again state that we need a battle leader. In the last battle people moved about in all directions and Zeoll chose the path that lead to his death. Because as logical as his action was to get up amongst them and thus draw them back from us. He died because he had no back-up. So either you must take more control during a battle or we need a battle leader."
He looks at her the light of love and respect obviously in his eyes, "Certainly I stayed with you to protect you from harm, perhaps to long but I also was waiting for you to give some sort of direction to us. If we are to be a group we must work together particularly in battle. I know Raorr has said that you need to direct as well and I think he has a point" he reaches out and takes her hand,"You have my respect always and I only say this because I really feel it is necessary to bring it to your attention."
