The Labyrinth of Imod

DM Carl: Things Move Apace
Monday April 15th, 2002 5:42:12 PM

After some discussion Jandar approaches the group, and in hushed tones explains that he can make an attempt to bring Zeoll back. He will require 500 GP for the material elements of the spell, which the Chosen gladly provide.

The High Priest orders his acolytes to take the body into the atrium, and Jandar addresses you all before he follows. "My friends, I am sorry your time here has been tainted by tragedy. If it is within my power I will return your friend to you, though it may take some time. Either way, Zeoll will have to follow on after you. I must go to prepare, so until we meet again, may Alemi's blessings go with you." He bows, and leaves the altar room.

What happens next is something of a blur. Lost in contemplation of your loss and the bustle of clerical preparations you barely register as you are escorted out of the Temple of Light to the ruins of Domi's temple once more. There is a vague recollection if a crumbling stone archway amidst the ruins, of a hymn sung by the acolytes, some words of farewell and then...

And then you are standing in a clearing that at least some of you recognize as the copse near the Surefoot Family Vineyards on Centaur Island. Immediately behind you stands the vine-entwined gateway you saw once, (it seems so long ago now), though there seems nothing special about it now. Try as you might you can find no way to get back through it to Plateau City.

It takes very little time to commandeer a fishing vessel back to Bridge Isle. When you arrive in the Commons of Hearthold Keep the sun is setting over the distant horizon. Standing facing the windows, silhouetted by the spectacular sunset that bathes the room in vibrant orange light, stands the mighty form of Tarsus, first of the Taurs. Without turning he speaks in a rumbling, powerful voice.

"So, the taint of Marteaus is lifted. The Heartstone is pure once more, and the first quest is complete. I congratulate you, and grieve for your loss. He turns, and his great craggy face shows all to plainly the grief he feels. "I fear many more may fall before it is over. Let us pray the prize is worth the price."

Tarsus gathers himself almost at once, and drawing himself up to his full height he proclaims, "To restore the Heart it must be placed on the altars of each of the three Temples of Domi on the Taur islands that were destroyed when the Great God died. You must then spend one night in prayer and supplication at each of the three temples. But be warned. All is not well amongst the Taur races, and you may well find that your task is not as simple as it may appear. For there are ancient divisions which separate my children, and steps must be taken to begin to heal those ancient wounds, if the Heart is to beat again."

"First you must visit the Sanctuary of the Soul on Minotaur Isle. I would advise you to proceed as quickly as you are able. Time is of the essence, and if possible you should try to arrive tonight. I will tell you one more thing that may aid you in your quest, and one thing only; remember the Rite of Blood."

And with that cryptic comment Tarsus sits, turns to the dying embers of the setting sun once again, and speaks no more.

Ceira Karwyn
Monday April 15th, 2002 11:50:30 PM

"We should all hit the road and talk about combat leadership while we walk." Ceira stretches her arms as she prepares to take her turn in carrying the Ark. "Suppose we decide to go through with the selection of a battle leader. How do you suppose we choose? Open votes or some kind of secret ballot? I guess this is the kind of decision that Kenisha must decide upon."

Kenisha
Monday April 15th, 2002 11:58:09 PM

"You're right, Kalon. We do need a someone well versed in unit combat to lead us in battles." Kenisha says loud enough for all the hear.

"Lets get going Taurs." Kenisha says after Tarsus' speach. On the way to Minotaur Isle, Kenisha asks, "What exactly is the Rite of Blood?"

Brahmah
Tuesday April 16th, 2002 2:59:13 AM

Brahmah bows to Jandar and says, "I'll honor your command."

The massive minotaur bids a quick farewell to his fallen friend.
Back to the Isles we go.

Flat-top
Tuesday April 16th, 2002 3:33:03 AM

After a bath and a good meal, Flat-top gets ready again this time he bring his bow. He assembles with the others and has over heard Kenisha and Ceira talking. "Kenisha, I would like to tell you that you did fine as a leader. If everybody stops and look back they will see that what happen was also Zeoll fault. He did not wait for back up and went alone into the unknown and paid the price for it.

Now as you know Centaurs cannot climb. So Leets and I had to protect you girls for your magic. Kale had to open that door. when the door open. Brahmah went in and was in a fight with two of the three dwarfs. Raorr went up to the ledge, on a rope and Leets back and he was the only back up Zeoll had. But Raorr went up there as fast as he could.

So you see, it was nobodies fault, Kenisha. We were in a well planed trap. Out of the nine of us, we only loss one. They were going for the Magic first, That's you girls. then they were to go after the Minotaurs, then last the Centaurs. But never counted on the Wemics being so able to jump that high. You did well, Yes! very well."

Brahmah
Tuesday April 16th, 2002 5:40:31 AM

Brahmah knods his head in agreement with Flat-top. "You did well. We need no battle leader."

"I've ben thinkin'. Maybe Zeoll was spose to die and go to Domi. Domi may need him now to strengthn his army for battle! Yes, he needed Zeoll. That's what I say."
The Tauran sailor looks worried. "Maybe it's not right ta take that honor from Zeoll!? I'm not greedy, but I give nooo money to rise him from the dead." He looks real stern when he says this, with resolve.

OOC:I do want Zeoll back. :)

Leets  d20+4=14
Tuesday April 16th, 2002 7:21:18 AM

When time for departure comes, Leets picks his shield, and wipes the dust on it with his sleeve. He also picks his rope on the ground, and unties the bad knots he did with it, thoughtful...During the journey, he remains silent and taciturn, often whispering prayers and preparing his weapons, sometimes blowing in his Pan's pipe.

One evening, the young centaur paladin comes to see Raorr and asks : « What is this Holy Order of Imod's Wrath you were talking of ?"

Once at the Hearthold Keep, he will ask for a bow and arrows, and train for while with it to see if he didn't forget what Astachos taught him.
When he is told of the Rite of Blood, a spark of interest lights on in his eyes (rolled 14).

"I know nothing about this Rite of Blood...Although the name recalls me of something but...No...I'm wrong..."

Kale
Tuesday April 16th, 2002 9:06:03 AM

"We shouldnt split leadership. Either Kenisha leads us in everything or we choose a new leader." Kale says "If we vote, I vote for Kenisha." then, as an afterthought, "I remember something about a blood rite, but its eluding me at the moment."

DM Carl: Into the Lion's Den
Tuesday April 16th, 2002 10:34:46 AM

Night has fallen by the time the Chosen, still using their commandeered fishing vessel, draw close to the port of Fort Stag on Minotaur Isle. All along the docks torches are blazing, reflecting off the inky black ocean. As you pull up to land you are somewhat surprised to find that numerous boats and ships line the quayside. Even at this late hour the quayside is bustling with activity, as Minotaurs busily load and prepare this sizeable flotilla.

As you set foot on dry land a cry goes up from one of the Minotaurs, swiftly joined by many of his companions. "Hey! Centaurs! There are Centaurs here!" A crowd swiftly gathers around you, and its mood seems ugly.

Only by announcing that you are the Chosen of Domi, and that you come bearing the fabled once-sundered Heartstone, are you able to pass through safely. Minotaurs have always been antagonistic towards Centaurs, but the mood of that crowd had the air of a lynch mob... or worse.

And you notice with unease that even when you announced you were the Chosen, the reaction was not entirely positive. Awe from some, certainly, but fear, anger and suspicion from many others.

"They are cursed!"
"Raakis says they defile the sacred Word of Imod with their lies!"
"It is unnatural, Minotaurs mixing with those Centaurs!"
"That lump of stone is not the Sacred Heart of Imod! They are mad!"
"Poppa, will they really eat me if I'm naughty?"

You press on, the task at hand more important than picking a fight with a bloodthirsty mob.

It takes very little time to reach the site of the once-majestic Sanctuary of the Soul, greatest of the Minotaur Isle Temples to Imod. Before your God's death it had stood 200 ft square, 5 stories high, built of imperishable ironstone. Intricately carved with scenes of battle from the early history of the Centaur Wars, it was utterly destroyed when Domi died, reduced to little more than rubble.

But as you approach you see that a great deal of work has been carried out since that destruction. Some way in the distance you spy a new stone edifice under construction, twelve great pillars visible in the light cast from the four huge braziers that surround it. But your view is obscured by an enormous maze of tangled briars and brambles that surrounds the new structure, visible only by the pale moonlight. This vast labyrinth must surely have been grown with magical aid, for it would have taken years, even decades to grow naturally.

As you approach the torch lit entrance to the labyrinth four heavily armoured guards step forward, spears pointed at you, bastard swords at their sides. The torchlight flickers over their armour, showing them to be adorned with the crossed swords of Imod. The sound of many weapons being drawn, and the creaking of a score of bow strings comes at you from the shadows that surround you, and you get the impression that you are heavily outnumbered, though you can see none but these four.

The leader, a grey faced Minotaur of particular height and strength addresses you. "Halt! Who dares brings hated Centaurs to foul the scared Labyrinth of Imod? State your business here, and be quick about it!"

Kenisha
Tuesday April 16th, 2002 11:18:40 AM

"We are the Chosen Of Imod." Kenisha states firmly and with an even voice. "And we are here to pray at the Temple for the good of all Taurs."

Flat-top  d20+3=17 d20+1=20
Tuesday April 16th, 2002 3:53:02 PM

Flat-top carries the Arc from the back, Flat-top is silent and will stay that way unless spoken to direcly. The bearers carry the Arc until Kenisha stops and speaks to the grey face Minotaur. The way he is barking to our leader make Flat-top blood boil, but will hold his temper and look down and around.

OCC: to listen - 17 - Spot - 20.

Raorr
Tuesday April 16th, 2002 7:31:26 PM

As Leets asks about the Holy Order of Imod's Wrath the barbarian starts to chuckle. "I almost thought you centaurs knew humour when you heard it." He begins "It was meant partly as a joke, since you almost reminded me of a berserker when you called to Domi upon looking at Zeoll's corpse." Raorr waits a moment to allow Leets to soak in the 'joke'

In a more serious tone he continues "Personally I count myself not warrior of our times but a warrior of the old ways, before human's influenced our ways. My visions of the past are vivid and full of combat, none of this organized combat that we praticed now. I follow the old ways of individual power where one strong taur leads not by words but actions. The military today is a farce, loyalty is easily purchased and the leaders care not for their people but whether the campiagn will result in victory or not. the soldiers who fight now no longer have names their only ranks, and numbers to those in command."

The minotaur opens his sadlebags and gets some Wine and drinks. "Many call me barbaric, but the rage I have is under my control. The voice those from the old ways aids me and encourages me in battle."

The Minotuar offers the wine to Leets after taking another sip "To be honest I'd much rather listen to those voices than those of any in the group, those voices have been with me since childhood. They have kept me alive all these years. I've been with this group for only a year, in that year Imod, bless him, has been 'slain' to our people. If that is true then the voices would be gone as they are divine in nature I'm sure of this, as much as I'm sure you believe that Domi granted you your divine power." Raorr pauses and frowns slightly "Of course, I can not explain your loss or Zeoll's any better than that Domi is dead, ironic I think. Why spare me and grant me power while taking it from others."

"Do not take offense Leets, but I believe in my path, and if Zeoll's death is a sign, I suggest you begin to listen to the voices in your head. The one's you've ignored or suppressed for so long. I've embraced the voices and Imod has blessed me for that, If you do the same Imod may also bless you, your powers will return whether the Heart beats or not. The Heart, as important and symbolic as it may seem, is just that another symbol a physical object, that people will continue to fight over and try to destroy. Imod only needs to live on in our souls. Imod lived when the Heart was sundered, Imod lived when the heart was joined. Do you truly think that Imod would be so easily 'defeated'? I think not, my four legged friend." Raorr sips again.

"Imod is testing our resolve, and punishes those who fail. Zeoll's dead, so I believe in my heart that Imod found him lacking in some area, or perhaps Zeoll's voice, as sweet as the words that sprung from his tongue was, is needed in the Holy Choir of the Great Warriors of the Imod. I, under my own humble ponderings, have called those voices the Holy Order of Imod's Wrath, as those who serve them in life are empowered by those who have fallen. And once you die your soul joins the chorus, a great fate for any brave soul."

Realizing now that the sack of wine is empty Raorr looks to Leets and smiles "Does taht answer your question?"

---

Noting the mob Raorr smiles and thinks about the priest, Rite of Blood. A challenge will need to be issued I bet. Too bad Kenisha will be the one who has to issue it, he think to himself.

The minotaur stands attentively, looking around and then decides to lean to Kenisha and say "I would presume this is Raakis, of the our Religious Order. I would suggest you either begin to think like a minotaur, or be ready for this mob to lynch the group."

Brahmah
Tuesday April 16th, 2002 10:48:14 PM

Brahmah sits with Roarr and Leets, sharpening his Falchions and Scimitar, occassionally knicking his fingers with the blade. Quiet and occasionally shaking his head in agreement with most of what Roarr says.
When Roarr speeks of the Holy Choir, Brahmah finally speaks, "That would be a great Honor for Zeoll! I don't think it'd be r'ght to take away that Honor from Zeoll."
Then he checks the points on each of his horns, he takes a whetstone to one that is dull.

-------------

When walking through the mob in the streets, Brahmah gets very angry and situates himself between the Chosen and the mob.

"We are Chosen. We consider ourselves TAURS!"

Looking into the crowd, he smiles at the little children with their parents. There is a glint of hope in his eyes for them.

-------------------

When arriving at the Temple, Brahmah doen't say a word. He leaves that to Kenisha.
When the leader says 'foul Centaurs', Brahmah puffs up and looks like he's going to say something to the guard, then thinks better of it. He grits his teeth and mumbles something inaudible.

Ceira Karwyn
Wednesday April 17th, 2002 12:06:48 AM

Ceira lets out a gutteral growl but refrains from doing anything further lest she become another victim of these minotaurs. She awaits the minotaur's response to Kenisha's declaration.

Kalon the Wemic
Wednesday April 17th, 2002 12:36:59 AM

Kalon moves beside Kenisha prepared to protect her from harm.

Leets
Wednesday April 17th, 2002 2:48:12 AM

Although he is used not to drink vine otherwise than for ceremonial use, Leets accepts Raorr's drink and talking.
He listens carefuly, and nods from time to time.

"I'm sorry Raorr, I didn't mean to be agressive toward you...I owe you much, especially after this last battle....It's just that...You see, my holy powers were given back to me through worshiping of Domi's aspects in all others gods...However, It's not really the same. You see...Adoptive parents may be kind, but it's never the same...
Since Domi's death, I know there is a strange feeling growing in the darkest shadows of my soul...Maybe it is those voices you are talking of, maybe it's not, but they are there.
Now, I think you also answered your own question trying to explain me this: maybe your voices are not coming from Domi, but simply the chorus of fallen warriors whispering to your ear. What do you think?"

"Now, you know, you've always had those voices to lead you. As for myself, I have always found answers in prayer, even at the most dramatic moments of my life...Maybe I haven't been listening enough to my own voices after all..."

Leets will talk with Raorr as long as needed, but once they have finished, he will end the night in prayer, as well as much time of the day.

----------

Once on Minotaur Island, Leets knows that even if they come in peace, he must show that he is also a warrior to be respected by this fierce and proud people.

----------

When finally arriving at the temple, Leets will stand by Kenisha's side, and let her talk. However, he feels the stress both among the Chosens and the Minotaurs, and will remain ready for battle, glancing at Flat-Top...

Kale  d20+5=22
Wednesday April 17th, 2002 9:39:00 AM

having been silent for most of the journey, Kale waits to see what the guards have to say. while waiting , Kale tries to identify the leader of the guards(spot of 22)

DM Carl: Minotaur Diplomacy  d20+2=20
Wednesday April 17th, 2002 10:42:23 AM

Kenisha's words seem to take the burly soldier by surprise, as if he were expected another to speak. "The Chosen?" he asks, suddenly uncertain.

Roarr's words snap him out of his momentary confusion. "No, I am not Raakis!" he barks at the Minotaur. "I am Karnak, captain of the Hand of Imod! But if you seek to enter the Temple, then it is clearly Raakis that you seek."

Amazingly Kale, peering closely at the aggressive captain, does recognize him. He has seen the Taur before, leading a squad of the Hand of Imod through Fort Stag, though he was not a captain back then. Remarkable the details that stick in your mind. (OOC: Int check of 20, in addition to your Spot check.)

Karnak addresses his next comment to the three minotaurs only. "Very well, you three follow me. The rest of your...companions must stay here, under guard." He casts a nasty glance at the centaurs, and to a lesser extent at the wemics. "The Sacred Labyrinth shall not be sullied by their presence, Chosen or no!" and he turns to lead Roarr, Kale and Brahmah into the maze of briars.

Flat Top, staring into the shadows around them, spies the glint of torchlight reflecting off a great many weapons and breastplates. He spies perhaps twenty or so figures surrounding them, some with blades, others with bows, but there may be a great many more lurking unseen in the shadows.

(OOC: Roarr, Kale may each make an Int check vs DC 20 to remember something of the mysterious Rite of Blood. Brahmah may make a Knowledge (Kaylebs) check vs DC 15. For the rest it's an Int check vs DC is 25, so unless anyone is about to get very smart very quickly, you're not going to make it!).

Flat-top  d20=9
Wednesday April 17th, 2002 4:18:43 PM

Flat-top whispers to Keniva, 'We are being watch by a lot of archers and swordsmen hiding in the bushes. We better be very good Centaurs and Weimics. Ceira Stay close to me please, if anything happens I'll be able to cover you as long as possible.' Flat-top keep his head bowed and looking meek. But boiling inside.

OOC: didn't make my Int. check.

Brahmah  d20=17
Wednesday April 17th, 2002 5:38:14 PM

When Brahmah looks at the Captain of the Hand of Imod, his eyes light up a bit.
He glances at the non-minotaur Chosen, especially at Kenisha. "Do you wish me to go wit'em? I was commanded by Jandar to follow the Chosen." The huge minotaur seems real torn in his eyes and body language. Follow his childhood idol, the Captain of the Hand of Imod or stay with his Chosen as Honor and Jandar command.

OOC:Knowledge(Kaylebs) at 17. :)
OOC:The only way Karnack could have gotten the position as Captain, is to complete the Kayleb of Initiation.

"This group shouldn't be SUNDERED. We are Chosen, wh're one goes the rest follow. I stay! It is my Honor Bound duty!" He almost looks surprised at his own words. He again glances at Kenisha for a comforting word from the leader of the Chosen.

Kenisha
Wednesday April 17th, 2002 8:24:40 PM

Kenisha smiles warmly at Brahmah and says in Minotaur to all three of them, "Your desire to keep the unity of the Chosen is admirable, Brahmah, but to fufill our holy quest, it is obvious that we must speak with Raakis. If only Minotaurs may enter at this time, then it fall upon you three to plead our case before him. I have faith in all of you as my fellow taurs to do this. Stay or go with the captain as your hearts command you."

Ceira Karwyn
Wednesday April 17th, 2002 10:30:11 PM

Ceira looks astonished at Brahmah's decision. "I am truly touched Brahmah. You've joined us not too long ago. Yet, your heart seems to have found it's place. Domi has chosen well to make you one of the newest members of 'The Chosen'. Not only in heart but also in battle."

To pass the time, Ceira slowly and gently reaches into her backpack and pulls out some dried rations to chew on.

Raorr
Wednesday April 17th, 2002 10:47:53 PM

Raorr looks grimly at Karnak and looks around. "I am Raorr, Chosen of Imod, Champion of the Minotaur No-Holds Barred Championship of Lankmar, Slayer of Humans. For me these guards show me the respect you have for who I am. For that I am honored by your respect. As for my fellow tauric companions, I believe that you dishonor me, Captain, if you think I would walk away from them, while cowards lurk in shadows, with bows drawn taunt."

The minotaur looks towards the Labryinth, and then back to the ark. "I would suggest a comprimise Captain Karnak. You and I will enter the labryinth and beseech Raakis to join us here where his words will be heard by all our people. Here where once and for all He will acknowledge the truth of the the Sacred Heart." Raorr looks around the gathered crowd "I hear slander from many who choose to ignore the events of the Long-night. Have our people completely changed and become cowards, afraid that the truth may be painful to accept. I would be shamed to call myself Minotaur if that were the case. Our people are strong, better than anyone else. But our enemies now are no longer the villianized Centaurs nor the isolated Wemics. Our enemy is the Human who dared to challenge our God, and through his treacherous magics, made us forget who were are. We are the children of Imod, Minotaur, Centaur and Wemic. I have seen what our people were, and I have seen what we will become if we continue to fight amongst ourselves. WE will all ceast to be! No honorable death, no glorious battles, just nothingness. If we, the minotaurs, continue to ignore the world around us and remain bullheaded, we will lose ourselves, our past and our future."

The burly minotaur movs to the ark "Be not afraid of the Heart, It is whole as it was meant to be. Our stubborness sundered the Heart, this groups determination reunited it. And now we must bring the sacred heart to all our people's temples and shpw Imod we have learned from our mistakes of the past. What will people think of the minotaurs if we refuse, and both WEmics and Centaurs unite? What will happen when Imod finsihes his test of the Taurs and sees his most powerful children fail his test of faith? WE will be laughed upon, ridiculed while the other children are once again blessed by his presence." He then opens the lid to the ark so some of the crowd can see the Heart. "I have seen what lengths the False Human God will go to to stop us. He has tried to capsize our boat with monsters from the sea, but together we slew his monsters. His followers raise our fallen familys from their graves, to fight us. He shows no respect to our past. And most recently his people tried to lead us to our deaths in an ambush.Again his minions were killed. Not by Minotaurs, Centaurs or Wemics, but by Taurs, united as Imod originally planned. Together we are the ultimate race, we can finally show the world our power, our culture."

Raorr lowers the lid to the Ark and walks back to his position. "So Captain Karnak, will you join me in asking Raakis to join us here? Imod is watching, how will you fair in his plan?" The young minotaur motions to the labryinth.

Kalon the Wemic
Thursday April 18th, 2002 12:17:33 AM

Kalon smiles at Raorr's words, "Well spoken Raorr you do honor to us all" he says and continues to stand by Kenisha, still vigilant.

Leets  d20+3=19
Thursday April 18th, 2002 2:23:21 AM

Still on the defensive, Leets keeps his hand on the hilt of his sword. He glances nervously at Kenisha for orders...He also tries to analyze Karnak's last words and gestures before he leaves to see if he isn't planning some trap...

DM Carl: Death to the Unbelievers!
Thursday April 18th, 2002 12:23:15 PM

Leets and keeps a close eye on Karnak, trying to determine if the powerful minotaur is hiding something. But if there is duplicity at work here, Leets cannot tell. The captain seems merely to be following orders.

Roarr states his case strongly, and confusion passes over the Captain's face. It seems he is torn by what Roarr says, wanting to believe, and yet unable to. His dilemma is resolved as a harsh voice rings out from behind him.

"Sacrilege! Blasphemy! I had hoped such Minotaurs as yourselves might be persuaded to abandon this decadent indulgence, this criminal enterprise of Unity! You could have been my greatest generals in the Holy War to come! A scourge upon our ancient enemy, striking a mortal blow in the Holy name of Imod! But I see it can never be so."

The speaker steps out from the maze entrance. A powerful, striking figure, the High Priest of Imod, Raakis. His fur is greying, and he is perhaps a little past his prime, but this mighty cleric still has plenty of fight left in him.

"Are you so blind that you cannot see the Truth?" Raakis completely ignores all save the three Minotaurs. "Do you not realise that Mighty Imod is not dead? That his silence is simply punishment for our lack of faith? You have caused this, you and your kind who speak of Unity and cooperation. Pah! I spit on your cooperation! Is the great Imod a God of diplomacy? Of talking? Of PEACE?!? NEVER! He is a God of WAR, and He is punishing us for our weakness! That is why He destroyed His Temple! It had become corrupted in His eyes! That is why He slew the decadent Hesparus (OOC: The old High Priest of Imod), and his callow aides! That is why He turned the day to night! Only by rising against the ancient enemy, by invading and destroying the cursed occupants of Centaur Isle, can we regain our God's love! We must return to the old ways! Our God demands that His Chosen People fight, and fight we shall! Our armies prepare to invade even now!"

The armada that you passed on the quayside suddenly takes on a distinctly ominous connotation; Minotaur Isle, under the leadership of this blood-crazed High Priest, is preparing for all out Holy War with Centaur Isle, in the name of a dead God!

"But I waste my breath on such as you. You shall never understand. You will join your Centaur and Wemic companions in death! Guards! Disarm them and take them away to be culled! Such blasphemers deserve no honour in death!

From out of the shadows fully thirty heavily armed minotaurs step forward, swords pointed at you. Behind them a further fifteen bowmen move into the light, arrows at the ready.

Karnak, though plainly torn at having to carry these orders, is a minotaur of discipline, and he shouts, "Lay down your weapons! Remove your armour and surrender yourselves at once, or be killed where you stand!"

Brahmah, with his particular knowledge of the Kayleb ritual, has been puzzling over Tarsus' words ever since he spoke them. Now, standing face to face with this personification of everything that was bad about the ancient Minotaur society, memory clicks into place.

The Rite of Blood was the early precursor to the Kayleb. Single Combat. No holds barred, no adjudicator, and no need for equality. And the Rite of Blood was not to first blood, but to the death. A challenge once made had to be accepted, or total dishonour would fall upon the declining party. Of course the Rite of Blood was replaced by the Kayleb generations before, a hangover of a more savage and unforgiving time. With increasing civilisation the Rite of Blood was simply an unacceptable, barbaric way of settling differences.

But to a radical conservative like Raakis, who knows?

Raorr
Thursday April 18th, 2002 6:13:00 PM

"Raakis" Raorr yells "You are correct, only in one thing, Imod is not Dead. But you seem to be deaf as well as blind, as I never said too leave our warrior ways. Imod left because he is testing us, and you have failed him. Your eyes see only hate, Raakis. Hate is not Imod's methods, hate is the way Humans think. Hate is a disease that apprently you have already been infected with."

The minotaur looks to the 45ish soldiers, "I have not forgotten Imod's way, my armour is stained in the blood of numerous foes, I have killed Centaurs, humans and even other Minotaurs, not because of I hated them, but because Imod chose me to represent him. I did not ask to be chosen, but Imod's true will can not be ignored, so I followed him."

Looking back to Raakis "The temple has been corrupted, and Imod took his loyal preists with him when he left, leaving only those whose hearts were weak, and easily manipulated. If you were so loyal a preist Raakis why did you not too perish, as the respected HEsparus and his aides? I'll tell you why, you were praying to new gods praying that they would give you power to aquire your new position." Raorr spits on the ground.

"Until recently I never understood why neither the centaurs or us Minotaurs ever tried an all-out war. The answer was simple, Imod would never allow it. Because he is our father, all of the taurs, not just we minotaurs. He allowed skirishes, as siblings even in our society fight each other. He wanted our people to be ready when the time came. Raaris is old, and wants this War, so that his name will live for generations. Raakis's Folly, that is what this war will be known as."

Raorr continues "I love fighting. I have never denied that. I too hate diplomacy, but our people could have remained united if we were willing to try in the old times. Our ancient enemy is not the Centaurs as you believe, our enemy is our own stubborness, our unwillingness to accept the possibility we were wrong, and you still suffer from that too, Raakis."

Raorr looks at Raakis and says in conclusion "Your breathe is wasted on me, as trying to understand your reasons is as difficult for me to understand as the truth is for you to accept."

Raorr looks toward the semi-confused Karnak "I salut you Karnak, you honor your oath by listening to Raakis. However my oath to Imod was one to unite our peoples, as such I can not, and will not surrender to Raakis. His war is unsanctioned by Imod and the only unity our people will see of this is total annilation of both sides. You should know this is true."

Raorr stands ready his sheild is drawn and he draws his Greatsword.

Kale
Thursday April 18th, 2002 7:40:16 PM

having been silent for all this time, Kale slides his sword from his scabbard and moves next to Raorr. "I wont surrender either. If you want my weapons, come take them." then he says in a whisper to Raorr. "Ill watch your back. I reconize some of the soilders from our raid on Fort Stag. Be careful."

Ceira Karwyn
Thursday April 18th, 2002 9:21:50 PM

After the noble words of Raorr are thrown at Raakis, Ceria responds, "Under these circumstances... I'd normally give up my weapon and come quietly. However, Raorr has sent a surge of inspiration through my body. Being a Wemic is nice. But being proclaimed as a Taur is much more satisfying." Although her words are brave, she still modestly scuttles behind Leets and reaches into her spell component pouch to ready a spell.

Flat-top
Thursday April 18th, 2002 10:27:55 PM

"Your right, Ceira, Raorr said it best. Well, if they want my armor and weapons, the are going to have to take it off my dead body. I'm backing our Chosen Minotaurs." With this said Flat-top draws his Morning Star and whispers to Leets,"Let's put our behinds together and protect Ceira for as long as we can." Flat-top takes the fighting stance.

Brahmah
Thursday April 18th, 2002 10:28:56 PM

Brahmah looks into the eyes of Karnack, as to say 'this minotaur also isn't easily swayed.'
Brahmah draws both Falchions. Then he shouts, "Karnack, you've shown that yur Honor is true! But you must also know Roarr speaks the truth about Raakis! I've always hoped to be p'rt of the Hand of Imod since I was a young minotaur. I used to believe they are the MOST Honorable of all minotaurs, I'm beginning to b'lieve perhaps I was wrong! You know we could handle this in the OLD style if you wish, but blood isn't the way anymore is it!?"
Brahmah then begins to speak to the archers and other warriors, "You must all be VERY Honorable, I salute you."
Looking back at Karnack, "So many for so few, is this HONORABLE? You outnumber us almost 9/1! We came here in peace! Isn't it a surprise to you that the only Chosen that have drawn weapons are fellow Minotaurs?!"

Kenisha
Thursday April 18th, 2002 11:09:32 PM

Kenisha speaks passionately and loud enough for even the army of minotaurs around the Chosen to hear. "Raorr and Brahmah speak the Truth! Tomi, Imod, Domi... No matter by what name he is known by, he is the God of War. And there is a war before us. But it not between Minotaurs, Centaurs and Wemics. It is a war between good and evil. Between those who defend what is right and those dark devils who would destroy everything! WE who are Taurs share a common God and heritage. WE are the children of Tomi. WE are the warriors of Domi. WE are the defenders of Imod. All of US! Every cub, calf and foal."

She pauses but for a second before adding, "We will not submit to your request, Raakis. We are not cowards."

Kalon the Wemic
Friday April 19th, 2002 1:18:32 AM

Kalon sighs as he watches the people around him begin to make preparations for battle again. He stands in a relaxed stance then speaks towards to Karnak, "I don't understand this hatred that minotaurs have for centaurs. We are all children of our great god. This mission was given to us by our god. To unite our people to fight the growing evil. All our peoples strength is needed to fight it. I love our god and I am trying with all my heart and strength to return him to us from wherever he has gone. My life doesn't matter only the life of our people. Only the unity of our people can save us. If you think me your enemy then strike me down Karnak or you as well Raakis. I will not shed my brother's blood that is not my duty. My duty is to unite my brother's against the darkness. I will show you that though I am a wemic I have that one thing that joins all of us together. It was the last thing our god told us before he left on his journey." He touches Kenisha lightly on the hand and smiles his love reaching out to her, "We are joined in courage."

Then slowly he kneels before them his head bowed, "I live for my great god and will die for him if I must but I will obey his last command. Do you have the courage to follow it as well and put aside your foolish hatred and have courage to face the future as one people."
He continues to kneel unmoving awaiting the strike that might end his life.

Leets  d20+4=10 d20+4=22
Friday April 19th, 2002 2:21:51 AM

From the distance, Leets unsheathes his sword and raise the hilt to his eyes.

"Raakis! I'm Leets Talric of the Talric Tribe, son of a Stallion who slayed hundred of Minotaurs before falling on the battlefield! It's probably the most tagic way to lose a father and a fierce comrade in arms! Of course the memory is well alive of his courage, strength and skill on the battle field, but all this will forever will be stained by his blind rage and foolish hatred!"

As Leets takes another deep breath, a light aura begins to surround him and his sword.

"This event is probably the best reason I have to stand today before you minotaurs, and show you us, gathered Taurs standing proudly against so many opponents, and ready to fight for Imod's will!"

While the aura surrounding Leets grows and reach all of the Chosens, he lift high his sword, flashing with divine power, and claims:

"SEE MINOTAURS, WHAT IS TRUE COURAGE, WHAT IS THE TRUE INHERITANCE OF DOMI'S CHILDREN, AND TRY TO STRIKE THE CHOSEN BATHED IN THE GLORY OF OUR GOD IF YOU DARE! SEE THE POWER OF DOMI! BLIND ONES!"

Still lifting his sword high over his head, Leets closes his eyes, and prays:

"Lighting in divine hearts the sparkle of courage,
Domi bless hooves and claws, and sanctify our rage!
Lead the blade through the plates and arrows to the chest!
In answer to your light we shall give you our best!"

With those last words, Leets cast -Bless- on the Chosens within 50ft (probably everybody?), giving a +1 bonus on attacks and +1 against fear effect.

DM Carl: The Challenge
Friday April 19th, 2002 7:35:37 AM

The words and actions of the Chosen seem to visibly impact upon their would-be captors. You can see in the faces of some of the guards, and in Karnak's in particular, that Roarr's heroic words ring true with these warriors.

As the Chosen draw their weapons they tense for battle, however; orders are orders. But the courage displayed by Leets, the bravado displayed by Brahmah, the widom displayed by Kenisha and the overwhelming righteous power emanating from Leets draw them up short once again. They look to their leader, Karnak, for orders, who in turn looks to his leader, the head of the Heart of Imod, Raakis.

"Lies!" cries Raakis, pointing at Kenisha. "We have been warned of these falsehoods you spread, and will not be fooled! You seek to blind us to the Truth with your tales of phantom foes, but you shall not prevail! We know who our true enemies are!"

Raakis, though clearly a fanatic, is no fool. He sees the way the tide is turning, and who holds the greatest power over the hearts and minds of his troops. Though they will surely carry out his orders, his leadership and reputation will be forever compromised if he forces them to carry out his commands.

Instead he seizes upon Brahmah's words.

"You speak of the Old Ways? Of settling this as true Minotaurs? Then you speak of the Rite of Blood! So you do have some semblance of honour after all, if you know of how our forefathers fought. One of you would face me in single combat, for the lives of your companions? A battle to the death, no holds barred? Very well. Though you corrupt the will of our Lord Imod with your blasphemous ways, you are not without honour, and deserve better than a simple culling."

He addresses his next remarks to the three minotaurs.

"Decide who amongst you will face me, and I will slay you. When you fall, your companions are honour-bound to surrender to my soldiers, and submit to the executioners axe. The righteous shall prevail, as Imod wills it. Do you accept? And who will dare face me, the living embodiment of Imod's Holy Will?"

Brahmah (Blessed)
Friday April 19th, 2002 9:00:09 AM

Brahmahs steps forward, eyes narrow and he becomes noticably tense, but not nervous...anxious.

"I accept, but not just to save the Chosen, but for the HONOR of all Taurs!" Brahmah ponders his own words. "Raakis, I didn't call for Rite of Blood, you did. Kaylebs are MY way!"

With that said, Brahmah stands prepared for what may very well be his death. Regretably giving his life to this mad minotaur.

"Karnack, I always wanted to be like you." Tears well in Brahmah's eyes.

Kalon the Wemic
Friday April 19th, 2002 10:42:42 AM

Continuing to kneel he speaks without raisng his head, "Brahmah we must find another way then to shed the blood of our brothers. All that blood will be needed for the coming conflict against an evil more evil then any this world has seen, Against an enemy army so vast that the world may well be consumed by it." looking up at Raakis he says,"Put aside your hatred Raakis. One of your enemies offered and still does offer himself to your great power to slay him. Each time you strike your brothers you fail to follow your great lord's last order" he looks to the other minotaurs around,"He said to have courage. not courage on the battlefield for all know that in the wide world no warriors are more fierce, more powerful then the great minotaurs. This enemy we face knows that and he strives to turn that against the other children of our great god. We fight each other when we should be fightning the enemy. He wanted us to have courage in all things not just in battle. A battle is won before a single sword is swung by an army guided by wisdom and planning. The brave hearts and strong arms of the minotaur race must be joined with the strengths of his brothers. The enemy we face will use any method to fight and will strive to constantly elude you. He will not want you to fight on the battlefield so he strikes this way by turning us against each other. On the honorable field of battle he will lose to the might of the minotaurs, the speed of the centaurs and the cunning of the wemic. So he won't fight us there. He will strike from the shadows"

Looking at Brahmah, "We the Chosen need your strength for the coming battle" glancing at the other minotaurs then having his gaze end on Raakis, "If you have a bloodlust that you cannot direct at OUR true enemy then come and strike at this one. I offer no resistance. You would mark me a coward for that wouldn't you Raakis. Not as great as your courage to slay your own brother. I have only the courage to follow my great lord's will. Again I say strike me for I still serve my lord and he says we MUST UNITE!"

sheathing his sword. Kale crosses his arms and says. "I guess he accepts it." as Brahmah walks forward

Flat-top
Friday April 19th, 2002 5:08:51 PM

"Look at all the good leadership we are about to lose. Look at all the taur power we will lose to that Dark Force. I'm ready to die for the united force of the wold." Flat-top Stand his ground with weapon in hand, "Kenisha, We await your orders..."

Kenisha
Sunday April 21st, 2002 11:26:54 PM

Resting a reassuring hand on Kalon's shoulder, Kenisha tells the Chosen, "Remember what Tarsus said... Remember the Rite of Blood. Brahmah has every right to accept the challenge." She smiles at Brahmah and adds, "Each race has it's own way of dealing with troubled times. By accepting this challenge we will rise in the hearts and minds of all the minotaurs here."

Troting over to him she whispers to Brahmah quietly, "Is it permissible for me to cast a spell on you before combat? I have newly learned a new spell that might be of great use to you. Bull's Strength. But I will not cast it unless you approve."

Ceira Karwyn
Monday April 22nd, 2002 1:15:11 AM

Ceira watches on in anticipation. "Will the other minotaurs get to watch this duel? More importantly, can WE watch?"

Ceira whispers to Leets and Flat-top. "Just trying to keep our eye on our friend. This Raakis fellow is quite fanatical so he might resort to foul play to get what he wants."

Raorr
Monday April 22nd, 2002 1:46:38 AM

Raorr looks at Brahmah, and frowns. He steps back and watches the rest of the crowd. "Don't like this one bit Kalon, too suspcious." Raorr says quietly to Kalon.

Leets
Monday April 22nd, 2002 4:15:29 AM

The young centau paladin puts his hand on Brahmah's shoulder.

"Go my friend! I trust you..."

Then he whispers:

"Don't worry Ceira, I'll keep both eyes opened..."

DM Carl: The Rite of Blood
Monday April 22nd, 2002 6:36:35 AM

Brahmah strides bravely forward, and the Challenge is answered. Captain Karnak leads all the Chosen, as well as Raakis and a number of his aides to the amphitheatre, an imposing stone structure usually used to stage Kaylebs, political discussion, or re-enactments of ancient battles for popular entertainment.

Raakis moves off to the far side of the arena to prepare, while Karnak's troops light torches around the perimiter of the sunken stage, perhaps 80 feet in diameter. As they do so, Karnak answers your questions. "This is a no holds barred fight. It is strongly recommended that you give your fighter as much magical assistance as you can, both before and during the contest. Spells, magical weapons or armour, potions; all are permissible. Direct assaults on the High Priest from non-combatants are strictly forbidden, and will result in you forfeiting the combat. You are all aware of the stakes, so I know I need say no more on that subject."

"None other than the Challenger and his respondent may take to the field of combat. You have 1 minute to prepare. Good luck." And he strides off without a backward glance. Though Karnak is being entirely unbiased in this contest, you can't help feeling that under his neutral exterior, he might just be rooting for the Chosen.

Final preparations are made. And then, once everything is ready, the combatants take to the field. They stand on opposite sides of the field of combat, 60 feet apart. A snarl curls the lip of Raakis as he twirls his Greataxe in anticipation. He handles the weapon with worrying skill.

From the sidelines comes the raised voice of Karnak.

"Let the combat begin!"

At once Raakis begins to race towards you, bellowing his war cry as he comes. "FooooOOOORRR IMMMOODDDD!!!!"

(OOC: Jay, please wait for the others to post how they intend to assist you (with weapons, spells, potions, tactics etc) before posting your combat response. Be sure to include all active effects in your Name line (ie Brahmah: Bless, Bull's Strength (Str 22) Companions, you may cast as many spells as you wish. Bless will remain in force for 10 combat rounds. If you have a weapon, potion or magic item that may help Brahmah, give it to him now! Good Luck!)

Kale (Substitute Cayzle)
Monday April 22nd, 2002 6:51:36 AM

Kale offers a quiet word of support to Brahmah as well as the loan of his +1 Ring of Protection (helps both AC and saves). He also gives him his new potion of Invisibility.

(OOC: Although Invisibility ends when you attack, that first attack is at +2 to hit -- so make that first hit a good one! And if the enemy attacks first, it will help your defense.)

Raorr
Monday April 22nd, 2002 1:19:08 PM

With EXTREME reluctance, Raorr offers His Armour, Shield, cloak, and Greatsword.

The minotaur looks serious, almost angry as he offers the equipment and says to him "If you fail Brahmah my spirit will surely haunt you for eternity. You should have waited for Kenisha's decsion, it should have been me! I do not enjoy the thought of dying out of battle. Win or else, brother."

OOC: Cloak is +1 Cloak of resistance (+1 resistance bonus to all saves), Greatsword is +1 Greatsword (2d6+1 base damage, crit 19-20/x2), Armour is Rhino Hide (+2 Hide armour (+5 AC; +3 Armour, +2 Magic), that also doubles (or increases multiplier by one if already doubled or more) all damage you deal on a charge), Shield is +1 Large Wooden Shield (+3 AC; +2 Armour, +2 Magic)

Flat-top
Monday April 22nd, 2002 3:02:15 PM

Flat-top trots up to Brahmah, Shakes his hand and hand him a vial of cure moderate wounds potion and whispers,'I don't have much but I did pick this up at the Red Wyrm Inn, here take this potion and if you win I'll show where the Red Wyrm Inn is and treat you to the best drinks in the universe. The Gods be with you.'
Flat-top will go back and guard the arc.

Kenisha (Bull's Strength= +4)  d4+1=4
Monday April 22nd, 2002 10:09:15 PM

Kenisha trots up to Brahmah and casts her spell of Bull's Strength on him.

She intones, "Mah-Val Sha-zohm" as she sprinkles a few course bull hairs on his shoulders.

She steps back and says, "Good fortune and remember, Have Courage."

Kalon the Wemic
Tuesday April 23rd, 2002 2:03:55 AM

Kalon watches as the inevitable battle begins and shakes his head. Moving over to Brahmah he hands his amulet to the minotaur. Then moving back to Kenisha he stands there and speaks loud enough for all to hear, "We saw what the future may well hold for us all. I know that you all believe that Tarsus has some knowledge we don't. His time was long ago and not now. The path is ours to make and decide. What he knew before did not stop the taurs from splitting and warring upon each other. You say we must honor the minotaurs traditions. I say that is the reason we will fail. The time for honoring old traditions is gone. We face a new world and an enemy unlike any we have ever faced. If there was going to be a fight it should have been all of The Chosen that fought. We are a group standing divided as always we have. This is a time for a new path and we cannot lead by example if we do not forge new traditions for all our brothers. What we are doing here only serves to magnify our differences once more. We will fail if we do not change this." Kalon moves away from the group not watching the fight.

OOC: Amulet of Deflection and Resistance +1

Leets
Tuesday April 23rd, 2002 9:15:45 AM

Leets will stand as close as possible from Brahmah, as well to encourage him as to help him benefit of his Aura of Courage.

"You have Imod and the spirit of the whole Taur people by your side Brahmah!"

Brahmah (Blessed (10 rounds), Bull's Strength +4)
Tuesday April 23rd, 2002 6:41:33 PM

"Thanks Roarr, but have never been comftrbl in hide armor, it bunchs up. As for your greatsword, it would be an Honor, but..." Brahmah leans over to him. "You'll need it here REAL soon. Besides, I never learned to use one." Brahmah smiles impishly.
Taking the shield from Roarr, he gives him a knod in response to his 'haunting' words. He takes the Potions given to him by Kale and Flat-top. Brahmah's muscles ripple as Kenisha casts upon him. Excepting the Amulet from Kalon, he puts it on.
Entering the amphitheatre, across Raakis, Brahmah stands.... waiting. Then he speaks.

"Let us begin. Fooorr aalll Taurrrss!" He stands ready, Roarrs shield to protect him. Kalons Amulet hanging upon the chest as a symbol of hope. And Kenisha's Strength flowing through his veins. All Taurs are represented in Brahmah at this moment.
He gestures in the direction of Karnack as to Honor his presents.
Then he waits.

Ceira Karwyn
Tuesday April 23rd, 2002 10:44:23 PM

"Wait! Wait!" yells Ceira as she runs up to Brahmah. "So is everyone done?" After waiting a few seconds, she continues. "Hold still for a second." She reaches in her belt pouch and pulls out a piece of gum arabic and then a smaller pouch full of eyelashes. She places the eyelash in the gum arabic and then places it on his chest. She chants the words of magic and in a blink of an eye, Brahmah vanishes!!! (Invisibility = max 40 min.)

"Don't move now." Next she pulls out a cute little minature cloak from her pouch and reaches until she feels her furry chest. Ceira places the cloak on his chest as she begins chanting the words of magic again. (Resistance = +1 saving throws, 1 min.)

She leans really close and whispers into his ear, "Good luck big guy." Ceira gives him a wink and scurries off.

Wednesday April 24th, 2002 4:43:46 AM

Brahmah vanishes as Raakis races across the arena floor towards him, raising clouds of dust behind him. The mighty cleric pulls back his greataxe as he grows close, a look of surprise crossing his face as he realises his opponent is gone. But Raakis swings regardless, crying; "Imod guide my axe!"

The blow slams into the invisible Brahmah (11 HP) who flickers back into view as he strikes back, blood flowing freely down his arm. His own blow rips straight through the light armour at Raakis' armpit, and Raakis staggers back as a gout of blood gushes from the wound.

"So! You have teeth, little Taur!" he grins, as both minotaurs circle one another, dark drops of blood spattering onto the ground at their feet. "A fine blow! It will be an honour to send you to our Lord!"

"We're just getting started Raakis!" Brahmah says with smile on his face. Barely noticing the wound is deep, flowing heavily.

The two Taurian gladiators circle each other.

Crit threat not confirmed, for 9 points of DMG.

"Raakis, let's make that trip to our Lord together!"

The blow opens up another gash on Raakis, this time on his thigh. Still he continues to grin, as he gauges at Brahmah with his horns, and swings his greataxe hard at his opponent.

The pain is clearly starting to effect him though, as both attacks are easily avoided by Brahmah. As Brahmah sidesteps the cleric's greataxe slams into the dirt at his feet, biting in deep (Nat 1!). Raakis is forced to tug hard to free it, leaving himself unable to recover in time to riposte (Fumble: Raakis misses his next round attack).

Brahmah measures the older Taur trying to figure out if he may be feinting the blow, (Sense Motive check of 16).
Satisfied that the axe has indeed sank itself into the earth, Brahmah swings forcefully, and perhaps over confidently at the more experienced High Priest.
The younger Taurs blade bites into the High Priest once again. 11 points of DMG.

"Raakis, yur Honor s'rves Imod well."

Raakis (DM Carl)
Wednesday April 24th, 2002 9:11:41 AM

"Rraaarrghh!" Bellows the priest as blood sprays from yet another wound. "You insolent young calf!" He staggers back clutching his arm, blood trickling between his fingers.

"Mighty Imod! Hear Thy servant! Grant the blessing of your healing magics upon your humble Cleric! Hear my plea!" There is a note of desperation in his voice now.

But the zealot's pleas are in vain. No divine magics are forthcoming. Dead Imod cannot reply.

Steeling himself once more Raakis raises his axe, and rejoins the fray.

Brahmah has a look of despair and pity for this once mighty Child of Imod, however, the pity is not to be mistaken for weakness.
Brahmah lunges into the fray with relentless power, pulling the blade across the priests stomach.

Hitting AC 18, provided it does hit, doing 15 points of DMG.

After gashing the Taur priest, Brahmah steps back and releases the shield with a clang (AC 23 now)

(OOC: Power Attack +3 used on the attack)

Brahmah cranes his massive horned head back with a roar of despair for the priest, while drawing his other Falchion. "Rooooaaaarrgg!'"

Brahmah's blow sparks across the cleric's armour, but does not penetrate.

Raakis lunges clumsily with his horns, and Brahmah is easily able to evade the attack, but he sees the whistling axe blade just a fraction of a second too late. The axe plunges into his flank, opening up a grievous wound (13 HP: I make you on 11 HP now?).

"You have fought well, young one, but you will fall." Pants the aging cleric, sensing victory is close.

Considering his options for but a moment, Brahmah continues the assault.

Twirling and crossing both of his Falchions, AC 19 and Nat 20 for AC 26 (not confirmed for crit), AC 19 strike for 9 DMG and AC 26 strike for 10 DMG.

Brahmah takes in a very deep breath... like it may be his last.

Raakis (DM Carl)  d20+3=7 d20+10=28 d12+5=7
Wednesday April 24th, 2002 10:14:36 AM

Though the first of Brahmah's blows is deflected by the cleric's armour, the second bites deep into his flesh, causing Raakis to grunt in pain. Bleeding heavily now, the cleric continues his attack, knowing that both warriors are nearing death.

Once again he lunges clumsily with his horns, but is able to use the momentum of that failed attack to get inside Brahmah's guard with his axe blow. The blow is weaker this time (7 HP), but nonetheless Brahamah is seriously hurt, and his breathing is laboured.

The Voices of Gods [CDM Jerry]
Thursday April 25th, 2002 12:15:10 AM

Throughout The Wold, voices are heard. The Voices of Gods.

"So mother, you have truly fallen and become that which your former priests spoke against for so long: A slave to Passion!"

"No daughter, I have evolved. I have found the truth. Love hurts. Passion brings joy. I am now dedicated to forcing the Races of The Wold to realize this truth. Only the truth will let the races evolve. Only the truth will bring balance to The Wold. Today I am here to teach you this truth. You have always been my favorite daughter. You always went with your passions and used your god given abilities to force those who loved deeply to see the joy that only passion can bring.

"Now however, daughter, you have regressed and embraced the pain of deep love. You have failed. Your teachings of deep love must and will end. I have brought a strong handsome god with me. Ga'al, meet Flower, my daughter. Is she not beautiful?"

"Yes. Very."

"I have not failed. I have seen the truth. Passion brought me nothing but pain and deep love has saved me. I have learned the love of family, friends, and even learned to love you, whom I once despised. Most of all, I have learned to love the people of The Wold, from whom I once took so much."

"Flower you have learned nothing. I will teach you to evolve. You will learn passion...with Ga'al."

"Caeroldra, you are so misled. I am truly sad. I will have nothing to do with a Cult God. I leave you. However, the next time we meet, even though I love you deeply, we meet as enemies. Goodbye mother....for all time"

"Fine. Die in ignorance."

"AAIIIIEEEEEE!"

"Goodbye....daughter."

::POP::

"I AM ALEMI! Carol, what have you done?"

"You do not control me any longer, Alemi!"

"I never controlled you. I simply loved you. Now it is my duty to judge you. I find you guilty of murder. The sentence is Oblivion!"

"NOOOO AAUUUUUUUGH!"

::The sky turns pink and then red as the Goddess of Love and the Goddess of Passion are slain.::

"Ga'al. Look upon me and recognize me.

"I AM ALEMI, SUPREME OF THE GODS OF WOLD! HEAR MY WORDS AND TREMBLE!

"For crimes against the Noble Races, I hereby judge the self-named Cult Gods GUILTY and declare HOLY WAR upon them!

"Now go, Ga'al and speak my words to your cowardly brethren. The next time we meet IT WILL BE WAR!!

"May The Wold mourn the passing of the GODDESS OF LOVE.

"I go to mourn the passing of an old friend."

Kenisha  d20+3=19
Thursday April 25th, 2002 12:47:44 AM

Kenisha watches the fight with a seemingly passive face, but inside she's fearful and worried about Brahmah.

She keeps an eye out also for anyone trying to interfer with the Rite or do a sneak attack on the rest of the Chosen. (Spot check = 19)

Brahmah (Blessed (5 rounds), Bull's Strength +4)  d20+4=6 d20+4=20 d20=20 d20=1 d4+9=10 d4=4 d8+9=15 d20=10
Thursday April 25th, 2002 1:41:47 AM

Knowing death is near, Brahmah swings high and low with both Falchions with great power, missing with the high (AC 6)shot and hopefully striking with the low (AC 20). Then almost like he had forgot he had them, he goes low with his engraved horns, catching Raakis (Nat 20, crit threat not confirmed). Then stepping off to one side, Brahmah begins to show the pain that IS bothering him, clinching his side.

(Power Attack +3)

Hitting with the Falchion for 14 points of DMG and 15 points of DMG with the horn.

Brahmah glances at the Chosen, he has concern and pain in his eyes.
"Raakis..." Brahmah says with a great effort.

(OOC: Failed Will save DC 10, using current restistance and Blessing.)

Raorr  d20=15
Thursday April 25th, 2002 2:12:58 AM

Raorr stands there watching the fight surprised it took so long for Brahmah to use his horns.

OOC:
Will save of 15- DC is 12+2= 14 so Raorr should have made it.

Kale (Substitute Cayzle)  d20+1=20 d20+3=15 d8=1 2d6(2+3)=5
Thursday April 25th, 2002 5:32:09 AM

Kale is watching the fight intently when he hears the voices of the gods. He feels the almost-overwhelming force of love spilled out from the dead gods onto the Wold like blood, but he controls his emotions. (Makes save with a 20)

He watches the fight carefully to see the effect of the gods' deaths on the fighters -- if it looks like Brahmah cannot fight, Kale is ready to intercede -- with a well-placed arrow.

(OOC: If Bramah is incapacitated by the divine events, and Raakis moves to deliver the death blow, Kale will ready an arrow to stop Raakis -- hits AC 15 for 1 hp damage, but if he surprises Raakis, add another 5 sneak attack damage.)

Flat-top  d20+2=20
Thursday April 25th, 2002 6:28:31 AM

OOC: Flat-top made his will save of 20.

Flat-top is guarding the Arc, but can still see and hear everything that is going on. With every hit that Brahmah he can almost feel it. It seem to him it is useless to go through this blood bath. Flat-top will offer a prayer and hope it will help. "Alemi friend of Domi, Please help our newest friend Brahmah? I know I'm just a Fighter Centaur, BUT he was with the Chosen for such so little time."
Flat-top will ready himself for what is to come.

Kalon the Wemic  d20+4=17
Thursday April 25th, 2002 10:23:35 AM

Kalon who has been turned from the fight feels the words more then hears them. His longing for Kenisha growing and the thought that if Brahmah falls they may never know the future that they saw. As the two goddess' of love and passion cease to exist that longing grows. Turning to face her he sees her in all her beauty and strength. All her compassion and wisdom and moves to her side. Reaching out he gently touches her face and tears slip free from his eyes. The yearning growing as he waits to see her response to his touch in her eyes. He moves in closer then feels his own will begin to get command of him.

"Kenisha..."he moves in to kiss her.

OOC: 17 makes Will save if it is an enchantment effect then it is 19

Kenisha
Thursday April 25th, 2002 10:50:40 AM

Kenisha's own eyes are brimming with tears unshed as she struggles to keep control. (save was a 16 in a private post to GM) But upon Kalon's touch, the tears fall and she turns her torso to him. "Oh Kalon" she says softly, her anguish evident, "The Wold is falling apart."

She returns his kiss then hugs him fiercely as if afraid he'll disappear next.

DM Carl: Blood and Lust
Thursday April 25th, 2002 11:57:07 AM

Brahmah's horn gore catches Raakis full in the stomach. The horns puncture deeply as the cleric is lifted right off his feet, then falls to the ground clutching the fatal wound. "How... how is this possible?" he gasps, the life slipping from him. "Great Imod, heed your servant! Answer me! Pleeease!"

The dust around him begins to whip up, as a tiny vortex begins to form around the dying cleric. From nowhere a mist appears around him, swirling and obscuring him, until he is blocked completely from view. Brahmah, standing close to the mysterious phenomenon, feels an icy chill run through him, and an inexplicable thrill of fear.

Then, as quickly as it appeared, the mists are gone... and with them all trace of the High Priest Raakis! Brahmah cannot be sure, but as the mists evaporated he could have sworn he heard a chilling, mocking laughter...

Bleeding profusely and not far from death, Brahmah nonetheless cannot think of healing. He is now seized in the grip of passions he cannot control, a product of the howling divine energies released upon the death of the goddesses of Love and Passion.. The heat of the battle now transforms into another sort of heat entirely, and he turns towards the party with a base lust blazing in his eyes. "I...will... have... my... REWARD!" he bellows, flinging aside his weapons and beating his chest with one hand. "I demand my prize!" It is not too hard to guess what sort of prize he has in mind.

Ceira too has lost control of herself in the aftermath of the Deicide she has just witnessed, but in a rather different way. Suddenly she is seized with a love so profound, so all consuming, that she has no choice but to act. This is the deepest, truest, most profound love she has ever known. How can she not have seen that he was the one before now? So strong? So brave? And he calls for her! He is wounded, her darling needs her!

She gallops onto the field of battle towards Brahmah, throwing her arms around him and showering him with tender kisses. "My love! My love! We are together at last!" she cries. Brahmah in turn wrestles her to the ground, pinning the centaur down in the blood soaked dust. "YESSS!!" He roars. "You'll do!"

Karnak and his soldiers are staring dumbfounded at these events, and some are clearly struggling with demons of their own.

Something will have to be done pretty quickly to prevent Brahmah from making a mistake that both he and Ceira will deeply regret for a long, long time.

Flat-top
Thursday April 25th, 2002 7:45:08 PM

With every thing going on. Flat-top stands fast, feet squarely planted, Morning Star in hand, Shield up ready to fight to the death. When Flat-top takes a last look at his friends and what does his eyes sees?? Ceira the Weimic embracing Brahmah the Minotaur?? And then?? and then. . . Flat-top tell Kenisha "LOOK what's going on??" Flat-top look around and there is a female Minataur with that look in her eyes. "Kale help!" gulp Flat-top.

Kale (Substitute Cayzle)  d20+8=10 d4+4=6 2d6(1+3)=4
Thursday April 25th, 2002 8:22:40 PM

The minotaur rogue shushes Flat-top with a finger to his lips. "Go over to the other side of them for a distraction," he tells Flat-top. He drinks his potion of Invisibility. He does his best to sneak up on Brahmah. The fighter's so injured, just one good rabbit punch should put him out.

Kale punches Brahmah to subdue.

Stats==========

+2 invis, +4 Str, +3 Rogue, -1 Size = +8

Hits AC 10

If Brahmah is prone, hits AC 14. If Flat-top moves to flank, hits AC 16.

With any luck, ignores shield, dex, etc because of surprise.

Damage: 1d4 (punch?) plus Str plus sneak attack = 10 points of subdual damage.

If this works, make sure Brahmah doesn't die. If it doesn't yell, "HEY!" in effort to distract.

Brahmah (Blessed (? rounds), Bull's Strength +4)
Thursday April 25th, 2002 9:34:03 PM

In the throws of passion, Brahmah collapses from Kales blow.

"My love...you can't h'v her..." Brahmah paws at her, then drops.
He's unconcious.

Ceira Karwyn
Thursday April 25th, 2002 11:06:09 PM

Ceira's body relaxes to Brahmah's warm touch. Her thoughts of pleasure are soon disrupted as Brahmah's arms go limp and he slumps over.

"Wha-- What? Brahmah my love! What is wrong?" asks Ceira in a panicked voice. She is oblivious to her surroundings (including how Kale delivered the blow to Brahmah). "Brahmah... BRAHMAH!!!" yells Ceira. Soon her eyes come to focus on the deadly wounds delivered from the fight. She lifts her blood-soaked hands and paws in horror.

In a low gutteral tone she begins muttering and her pitch ascends with the strength of her words, "That priest... That priest did this... DIDN'T HE???" Tears mix with minotaur blood on her fur. She looks up at the other Taurs with eyes heavily stricken with saddness. "It was he wasn't it?" she asks no one in particular. "Just when I discovered my one true love in life." she looks up into the sky as tears continue to stream down her face and splashing on Brahmah's unconscious face. "WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY???" she howls.

She gently places Brahmah's head down as she rises and scans the area. Soon her eyes lock on the blood stained ground where the priest last lay. With a snarl, her eyes flare up and she begins stalking slowly towards the spot as if Raakis was still there. Her dragging steps indicate a reluctance to leave Brahmah, but she continues on without any clear cause. Ceira begins muttering incoherently, "Give me... Brahmah back... hurt you... give me..."

Kenisha  d20+4=11
Friday April 26th, 2002 1:07:04 AM

Pulling out of her embrace with Kalon, Kenisha moves cautiously towards Ceira. "She gestures silently for Kalon and Raorr to follow and move to either side of the distraught wemic.

"Act only if necessary to keep her from harming herself or anyone else without due cause." she whispers to them. "This new madness has cut deeply into her heart."

To Flat-top and Kale she says softly, "Use the healing potions that he was given on Brahmah and keep an eye on the Minotaurs around us."

Then soothingly and full of true caring, Kenisha addresses Ceira. "Dear Ceira, Raakis is no more. Brahmah is not dead." Kenisha silently prayed that this was indeed the case. "He is going to need your help, yes? Let's all calm down and get through this new disaster together. Together we can protect each other and keep Brahmah safe, true?"

(ooc Diplomacy check = 11 to try and calm Ceira down)

Leets
Friday April 26th, 2002 4:34:27 AM

The young centaur Paladin falls kness on he ground as the sky colors change and resounds the divine voices.
As Alemi's voice strikes his soul like thunder, Leets unsheathes his sword once more, and holds it so that the blade touches the ground.
Finally, when Alemi's voice stops, he stands up and tells:

"So the doors of Oblivion have finally opened! Time has come for cult gods to fall, and for the holy legions of he True Ones to rise and fight!"

Holding high his sword inherited from his paladin mother, and his shield, offered by the keepers of the Heartkeep, Leets answers Alemi.

"I shall stand against our ennemies Great Father! In memory of Domi First Fallen, and to honor the True Ones that will fall too for the glory of Good and the Wold's sake!!!"

"LET THE HOLY WAR BEGIN!"

Leets  d20+5=16
Friday April 26th, 2002 4:47:11 AM

Leets quickly understands that his friends are experiencing troubles, and he jumps between the fallen Brahmah and Kel, trying to separate them.

"Stop! STOP THIS RIGHT NOW! KALE! Your oponents are not among the Chosen, they are among the cult Gods followers! Keep your strenghts for the holy war and he coming battles! The True Ones will need you!"

If Kale allows him to do so, he will then heal Brahmah, healling 12 HP with his Lay on Hands.

(Rolled 16 on Diplomacy).

Brahmah
Friday April 26th, 2002 7:42:22 AM

Brahmah moans.

"Ceira..."

Raorr
Friday April 26th, 2002 10:33:54 AM

Raorr nods to Kenisha once she gives him the order to secre Ceira. He moves normally across the trail grounds and first picks up his shield and looks at it. After placing it on his arm he removes the amulet that Kalon gave the inotaur and says "Hey buddy, here's your pretty amulet."

As for the internal turmoil that should be affecting Raorr it appears different for him. The only visible effects are his usual edginess, and his desire for combat.
However the true effects quickly become know when he looks down at Brahmah, and kicks him "How dare you, take the chosen's position of champion you pathetic warrior. I am Imod's Champion, you are nothing, the voices don't sing to you, they sing to me. I should have fought him." He growls, another kick "You do that again and I will kill you first".

DM Carl: The Voice From Beyond
Friday April 26th, 2002 12:16:58 PM

Brahmah is knocked out, then carefully healed and woken. It seems the blow to the head has knocked some sense into him, as the raging passions begin to subside. His animal lusts are back under control.

Ceira too feels the overwhelming love begin to vanish, until there is only a cold emptiness in place of the greatest, most profound love she has ever known. Looking at Brahmah now she feels nothing for him, but the loss of that love is terribly painful to her. It feels like half of here heart has been torn away.

One by one the Chosen overcome their demons, and regroup. Karnak steps forward, and provides Brahmah with healing, assuring them that they have won the right their freedom (Fully healed).

Raakis' successor, a young and rather nervous Minotaur steps forward, and after some discussion agrees to allow the Chosen to take the Heart to the altar of Imod at the centre of the labyrinth. He assures them that he does not share Raakis' thirst for Holy War, and will call a halt to the invasion plans at once.

And so the Chosen, shaken by their ordeals, spend the remainder of the night gathered around the Heartstone as it sits atop the sacred altar of Imod. Those that have prayers to offer spend the night in supplication.

As dawn finally breaks the tired Chosen hear a voice on the wind. It is a voice unfamiliar to all (none of you have ever heard it before) but somehow it is strangely familiar.

"You know that a God may die. But know this also, my children; a God may die at the hand of a Mortal."

The voice exudes power and love, and as you hear the words you cannot help but believe them. You know this to be true.

As you return to your vessel you notice that the armada that was being readied for war last night is dissipating. Weapons and warriors are being unloaded and returned to whence they came. There is a curious feeling in the air, a mixture of disappointment and relief.

But you barely register this as you board your sailing boat and set sail once more for Bridge Isle and the waiting Tarsus. Those mysterious words nag at you; a mortal can kill a God? It sounds impossible yet you know the voice did not lie. There must be a way. But how?

Brahmah  d20-1=2
Friday April 26th, 2002 11:19:49 PM

While in the new Temple the night after the Rite of Blood, Brahmah finds a small corner within the alter room and begins his own prayers to Imod. Some may hear the following prayers...
"...prayers to my father, who was slain by a centaur in Honorable Kayleb... my mother who is with you now... and watch over my siblings who are abroad..." He adds. "... hope that the rest see that too." The rest is about Taurs and the unity that he knows will come, etc.
The next morning, Brahmah walks up to Ceira, wringing his hands together, he says; "Um... well, oh 'bout yest'rday, I ... I well... it'll never h'pen again. Sorry!" Embarrassed and blushing, Brahmah walks away with nothing else to say.
Going up to Kalon, if he isn't currently involved talking to Kenisha. "Kalon, I'm sorry, I lost yur Amulet in the combat, for the life ov me, I can't figure out wh're it went. I'm sorry." He pauses. "I'll get you a new one when I have somemore gold." He walks away.

Brahmah doesn't say much more to anyone until safely aboard a ship. Then when on the ship, he swaggers over to Roarr, who is his kindred spirit among the Chosen.
"Thanks for lending me yur shield, it was an Honor to use it. That was an exciting combat, wasn't it Roarr? It was such an HONOR to fight in fr'nt of the Great Karnack!" Slapping Roarr on the shoulder, Brahmah says; "You should've been there Friend. Yur spirit WAS with me! Yur not g'ing to get a chance to haunt me JUST yet, Roarr!" He laughs and walks away, back to his duties on the ship.

Brahmah returns the potions to the right Taur, Kale gets his Invisibility potion and Flat-top back his potion of CMW's.

(OOC: He's volunteered on the ship for this journey, Profession: Sailor check of 2, with that roll they may want me out of the way!)

Kale (Substitute Cayzle)
Saturday April 27th, 2002 12:27:03 AM

Kale steps away as soon as the danger to Ceira's honor is past. He ignores the accusatory tone of his critics -- he knows that without his action, worse might have befallen.

For the night of prayer, the minotaur keeps a careful watch. If he joins in the prayers, he is too quiet to be noticed.

[OOC: When Ceira cast Invis on Bramah, I assumed that Kale didn't give his Invis potion to Brahmah after all -- in fact, he later used that potion to sneak up on Brahmah! Also, Carl, I'll keep subbing for Sam until he returns on Tuesday, if that's okay.]

Flat-top
Saturday April 27th, 2002 8:41:09 PM

Flat-top t a hold of Brahmah, and take him to sit down somewhere quite. "You'll be fine, and you won. Now get ready to carry the Arc to the ceramony. we still have a long way to go."

Flat-top will seek out Kale, put his hand on his shoulder,"Thank-you Friend" Then leave him to his prayers.

Kenisha
Saturday April 27th, 2002 10:54:59 PM

Kenisha spent the night in fervent, praying for the day when all Taurs lived as brothers. She also prayed for those already fallen in this war and for those who would surely face peril in the days to come.

In the morning after the wind's whispered message: "You know that a God may die. But know this also, my children; a God may die at the hand of a Mortal." her eyes light up and she bows her head for one more prayer, a silent prayer of thanks.

As the Chosen as sailing back she smiles and says with great conviction, "The days may be dark ahead, but we WILL persevere!"

Raorr
Monday April 29th, 2002 1:02:45 AM

Raorr only glares at Brahmah after he walks away laughing. Raorr tries to relax saying to himself the new chosen was unaware of his insults to the barbarian.

Once the chosen set sail the next day and hear the message in the wind, Raorr's mood darkens even more, "I only pray that the centaurs and wemics are more willing to accept the Heart."

Ceira Karwyn
Monday April 29th, 2002 1:27:15 AM

When Brahmah approached Ceira and apologized, she does nothing except give a blank stare at him as he scurries away.

Ceira wanders over to an isolated corner of the vessel and slumps over with her back to everyone. Her facial expressions reveal some sort of internal struggle is being fought in her mind. She is so preoccupied with her thoughts, that her usual sea-sickness seems to be smothered out.

Any further attempts from anyone trying to talk to her will be brushed off with a silent and empty smile.

Leets
Monday April 29th, 2002 5:13:17 AM

When the mysterious voice speaks, Leets seems to have a new energy flowing in him.

"So we, mortals, could finally avenge Domi's death! At least we could slay Marteaus the impostor!"

Leets will be quite thoughtfull during the journey back to the Heartkeep, but everybody will see that he carefully waits noon to pray Domi-in-all-Gods.

"Domi once again dark omens have appeared, gods are falling, and the Holy War has begun. Against our ennemy I know you'll give us strength and courage, to slay the Impostor and support the True One for it is the only way to honor them in those troubled days."

"A great hope has also made light flow in my heart since we were told that mortals could slay the Impostor. It would be a great honor for your children, o Domi, and for your servants, to strike the Impostor in your name, even if I was only one among the multitude to stand against Evil. If this should happen, give me strength and courage to strike quickly and deadly, before I fall."

"I shall serve you Domi, until the last sparkle of your essence, that lies in all Gods, disappears, and bring hope and courage to the Wold."
