The Year of Ascension - Summary (DM Cayzle) Tuesday August 13th, 2002 12:40:26 AM
The Southern Lights entered Threshold and were tricked, along with many others, into gates that brought them to Abandon, in Koshe-Marr, which is the Void. There, minions of Marteaus planned to use the Machine to suck energy from all living folk in Abandon, then open a rift in the Void wall, invade the Southern Continent, draw Threshold into Koshe-Marr, and advance over the whole continent. The first parts of the plan worked -- the Void wall was opened and the Army of Marteaus poured forth.
However, the Southern Lights used a counterspell and invoked the Entropy Bell to throw a spanner into the works of the Machine, even though that meant dying. This great need and sacrifice triggered the Chaos Power. The result was that Abandon was split -- the town was hurled out of the Void, but a shadow of the town remained in Koshe-Marr, too. At the same time, the Chaos Power drew the Machine to the chapel where the bell was most recently rung (near Heranmar).
The five wise old crones were also at the chapel when the Machine landed. There, the Machine was warped into an Arch, which can serve as a gate to Koshe-Marr. When the Arch fell into the Wold, the chapel was ruined. Maybe the wise old women were killed in the impact and were transformed into five stones that surround the Arch. Or maybe they made the stones and then disappeared. It is a mystery. Either way, the stones ward it from evil passing through. Also, the PCs became undead there, two immediately, and the rest afterwards.
Then the undead Children of Chaos re-entered the Void and from there, entered the Lands of Rest, where dwell the dead.
The Endgame - Repost (DM Cayzle) Tuesday August 13th, 2002 12:46:23 AM
Later, after you have all had a chance to piece things together and compare notes, you sort of get an idea of what happened in the Lands of the Dead. But just a rough idea. Here are some of the broadest strokes.
As in a dream, there were many adventurers there, all undead. Some spoke, others did not. You think you spoke and acted, but others don't remember you. Some followed one path, others followed a slightly different path. But somehow everyone worked together even if they had different experiences. It is very hazy and confusing.
You appeared at the edge of the Lands of Rest, where you met the spirit of King Claudia. Everything was more real there, more alive, and it hurt to stand on the sharp green grass. You saw many of the spirits of the dead, of loved ones and strangers.
Then the Faceless Ones appeared, who exploded when slain, and your losses were heavy. But in that oh-so-alive land, no wounds lasted long.
You learned to move by willing to move, and you were pulled away into a valley with a tomb -- Domi's Tomb! There you drew Domi Himself back to life, and he led you through the spirits of the dead and through a dragon-bone gate to the Oshirr House.
You don't know what happened after that, except that Alemi and Gargul were there. In the confrontation you played a crucial role, but you don't know what that role was. Then the door to the Oshirr House was opened, and the Wold was made new.
You feel that more happened, but you don't know what it was.
