The Year of Ascension - Summary (DM Cayzle) Tuesday August 13th, 2002 12:40:26 AM
The Southern Lights entered Threshold and were tricked, along with many others, into gates that brought them to Abandon, in Koshe-Marr, which is the Void. There, minions of Marteaus planned to use the Machine to suck energy from all living folk in Abandon, then open a rift in the Void wall, invade the Southern Continent, draw Threshold into Koshe-Marr, and advance over the whole continent. The first parts of the plan worked -- the Void wall was opened and the Army of Marteaus poured forth.
However, the Southern Lights used a counterspell and invoked the Entropy Bell to throw a spanner into the works of the Machine, even though that meant dying. This great need and sacrifice triggered the Chaos Power. The result was that Abandon was split -- the town was hurled out of the Void, but a shadow of the town remained in Koshe-Marr, too. At the same time, the Chaos Power drew the Machine to the chapel where the bell was most recently rung (near Heranmar).
The five wise old crones were also at the chapel when the Machine landed. There, the Machine was warped into an Arch, which can serve as a gate to Koshe-Marr. When the Arch fell into the Wold, the chapel was ruined. Maybe the wise old women were killed in the impact and were transformed into five stones that surround the Arch. Or maybe they made the stones and then disappeared. It is a mystery. Either way, the stones ward it from evil passing through. Also, the PCs became undead there, two immediately, and the rest afterwards.
Then the undead Children of Chaos re-entered the Void and from there, entered the Lands of Rest, where dwell the dead.
The Endgame - Repost (DM Cayzle) Tuesday August 13th, 2002 12:46:23 AM
Later, after you have all had a chance to piece things together and compare notes, you sort of get an idea of what happened in the Lands of the Dead. But just a rough idea. Here are some of the broadest strokes.
As in a dream, there were many adventurers there, all undead. Some spoke, others did not. You think you spoke and acted, but others don't remember you. Some followed one path, others followed a slightly different path. But somehow everyone worked together even if they had different experiences. It is very hazy and confusing.
You appeared at the edge of the Lands of Rest, where you met the spirit of King Claudia. Everything was more real there, more alive, and it hurt to stand on the sharp green grass. You saw many of the spirits of the dead, of loved ones and strangers.
Then the Faceless Ones appeared, who exploded when slain, and your losses were heavy. But in that oh-so-alive land, no wounds lasted long.
You learned to move by willing to move, and you were pulled away into a valley with a tomb -- Domi's Tomb! There you drew Domi Himself back to life, and he led you through the spirits of the dead and through a dragon-bone gate to the Oshirr House.
You don't know what happened after that, except that Alemi and Gargul were there. In the confrontation you played a crucial role, but you don't know what that role was. Then the door to the Oshirr House was opened, and the Wold was made new.
You feel that more happened, but you don't know what it was.
Scoundrels
Back at Last Tuesday August 13th, 2002 12:58:11 AM
The endgame is over. Your memories are hazy and contradictory, but it is clear that Marteaus was defeated. And yet ... the outcome is the creation of two Pantheons where there was one, the first still headed by Alemi, with the new pantheon headed by Marteaus. So if this is the Dark One's defeat -- promotion to a position as high as Alemi in a new pantheon -- you shudder to think what Marteaus's victory would have entailed!
The Children of Chaos find themselves at the site of the ruined chapel where they originally found the Entropy Bell and where the Arch to Koush-Mar still stands. The Arch is inactive now and dormant. The five watch-stones that surround it are just stones. Even the spiral tattoos on the PCs' hands are faded almost to invisibility. The chapel itself is destroyed -- parts of one wall are still standing, and that's it. The terrain is wooded hills. The terrain is rough -- as if there had been a lot of digging -- but well overgrown. There are signs of a camp in a depression in the earth that might have been occupied this morning. A trail leads from the chapel west to Heranmar. The time is midday.
Please, everybody, roll a listen check, with success if you beat DC 13. If you succeed, you hear people approaching from quite far off, from the direction of the town.
Shiraz d20=20 Tuesday August 13th, 2002 9:39:48 AM
Shiraz stops in his tracks and peers in the distance (Listen Nat 20). "Someone is heading this way" the huge taur whispers sharply. The taur move out towards the noise about 10 foot so as to be between his group and the riders.
Sly Foxx and Luke d20=18 Tuesday August 13th, 2002 10:35:17 AM
"Wow! thing look strange now, Oh! did you hear that,Jurden?" Sly ask the Sorcerer Jurden.
Luke growls and bark.
Jurden(Ceil) d20=7 Tuesday August 13th, 2002 10:43:39 AM
"Why Yes! thing ahve change around here. Even our tatoos are fadding, I wonder if we are going to stay together?" wonders the Sorcerer.
Jurden then looks at Sly and ask "What noise?"
A Party Approaches (DM Cayzle) Wednesday August 14th, 2002 7:50:27 AM
More details on setting: You are in wooded hills. The Arch and ruins of the chapel are on the top of a gentle hill, in a clearing. A trail leads into the woods towards Heranmar. The ground hereabout is torn up with pits and trenches (that's new since you all were here last). But weeds, grass, and shrubs have overgrown the area. It looks like a construction site that's been abandoned for months. There are signs of a camp in a depression in the earth that might have been occupied this morning. Now it is noon.
Shiraz and Sly hear a rowdy bunch of people through the trees from the direction of town. They are moving very slowly -- probably they are on foot. You hear laughter. If Luke barks again, they will probably hear.
Shiraz positions himself. Please say if you are standing in the open, or hiding, or spying, or what. Please tell how.
Now everybody can hear the sounds of shouts and laughter. Whoever they are, they are not trying to be quiet!
Jurden(Ceil) Wednesday August 14th, 2002 2:32:36 PM
"Ahh! Yes! I can hear them now, they sound a little drunk, don't they. And it's only noon. I better hide behind that tree." Jurden tells Sly.
Sly Foxx and Luke Wednesday August 14th, 2002 2:37:41 PM
Since sly cannot stop the dog from barking, he will make a little fire so when the strangers appere, they will think that Sly is going to prepare some food. "Now Luke don't bite. Just put the fear into them." Sly will sit on ground with his weapon by his side, trying to start a fire.
Trace and Radiant d20+9=16 Wednesday August 14th, 2002 3:30:06 PM
Trace moves over to a near tree and leans against it. He dosnt draw his sword but rest his hand on the hilt as he waits for the noisy visitors to show themselvs. (spot check of 16) "Who has the deck of cards? I need to get back to hook city to get a set of armor and a shield."
Shiraz Wednesday August 14th, 2002 8:15:43 PM
"Friends " he says softly,"I will stand here in the open if they are hostile you can draw them off of me, if not they will see a friendly taur standing here" Shiraz says the last with a smile.
Ilsidur Wednesday August 14th, 2002 9:47:40 PM
Ilsidur moves over to stand by the minotaur, and nudges his new friend in the thigh. "Well, the last time we met up with a bunch of partiers like this, we ended up scrapping with some misguided priests. I sure hope that this bunch is a friendly as they appear."
Altemia d20+7=22 d20+10=23 Wednesday August 14th, 2002 10:38:26 PM
Altemia moves over next to Sly, as if to help him with the food.
"They don't sound like they are here for a fight. But, it doesn't hurt to be on our guards."
She listens closer to the sounds and looks in the direction where they are coming from. (Listen 22, Spot 23)
Sir Thomas (Aleyna) Wednesday August 14th, 2002 10:42:47 PM
Sir Thomas watches the others ready themselves.
"I agree with Altemia. We should be prepared in case they are not friendly."
He nods at Trace's position and takes up a non-threatening one near Ilsidur and Shiraz. His sword is not drawn, buy his hand rests on the hilt, just in case.
Uteva d20+2=21 Thursday August 15th, 2002 1:49:04 AM
"Can the deck take us to Hook, Trace?" Teva ambles into the depression. "I thought the only card we had for it was the courier's office, and that place collapsed on us."
She pokes around the remaining traces of the previous night's camp in idle curiosity. (Spot=21)
Zombies and Humans and Dwarfs -- oh my! (DM Cayzle) Thursday August 15th, 2002 11:56:55 AM
Those thinking about the trump cards remember that they take 1 to 3 rounds to activate and can only go a distance of five days travel by foot. You've never tried to go to a place that's destroyed, or talk to a person who is dead (at least so far as your humble DM knows).
Remember, you are in the big clearing that once housed the Chapel, now ruined. The dormant Arch is to one side. The ground is pitted and dug up, but overgrown now with grass, weeds, and shrubs. About 120 feet from the woods, Sly, Shiraz, Ilsidur, Altemia, and Thomas gather, acting nonchalantly, as if making camp.
Uteva checks out the campsite, in a depression about 60 feet from her friends. The camp is fresh, as if it had been in use this morning. A handful of people camped there last night.
Altemia, from her vantage point, can't see much, but she thinks one of the voices sounds dwarfish.
Trace, standing by a tree at the edge, sees the party approaching. He sees eight people -- but four of them are shuffling along very slowly. Those four are silent and move stiffly.
Jurgen, from his vantage point behind a tree, sees the scene best of all. He sees the rowdy group approaching. There's three humans and a dwarf, and four zombies. Because of the zombies, they are moving slowly. The zombies are heavily loaded down with sacks, a tapestry, and a chest. The four living people are laughing and joking. They have really loaded down one of the zombies and made it walk in front of them -- a half-elf zombie, Jurgen thinks. From the jokes and mockery they are heaping on the mindless zombie, it is clear that this was once one of their comrades who had the misfortune to die recently. The dwarf seems to especially enjoy making fun of the zombie, knocking it down and insulting it.
"Stupid elf!" he says, "Where's your pretty footwork now!"
The other zombies are three humans. If you saw this scene in a movie, you might laugh; but in real life, with the stench of the rotting flesh in Jergen's all-too-recently-undead nose, it is just horrible.
Then Luke's barking echoes, and a human dressed in a black robe says, "What's that!" He orders the zombies to walk near him. The dwarf and one of the other humans draw weapons.
You all have time for a one or two quick actions before this group enters the clearing.
Trace and Radiant Thursday August 15th, 2002 1:01:38 PM
Trace sees the group approaching and is unsure of the situation but realizes that the group has treasure in hand and like most anyone they will protect it without a second thought. Trace draws his sword and leans on it with the point in the ground as to show but not threating. He looks over to his friends as if to ask what now?
Sly Foxx and Luke Thursday August 15th, 2002 8:34:57 PM
Sly grabs his shord and mutters *Armor On* his armor is in place. Sly stands and tell Luke "Heel Luke and guard me." Sly is ready for any thing.
Shiraz AC 22 Hps 66 Thursday August 15th, 2002 8:40:17 PM
Shiraz starts to shout but suddenly checks himself, "We must stop these foul creatures and release the undead to Domi's grace, I say we let them get closer as Trace peppers them with his bow and then we release those undead minions from their unlife and show the bullies some manners." Shiraz draws his 2 broadswords and waits.
Jurden(Ceil) Thursday August 15th, 2002 8:42:59 PM
Jurden watches the party advance over the small rise in the road, a Dwarf, three humans and four zombies. The Zombie in frount of the party(being made fun of) seem familier to him(Jurden). "I wish I could remember where I've seen him before" he wonders.
Ilsidur Thursday August 15th, 2002 11:55:33 PM
Ilsidur whispers, "Hold on, let's not start something due to a misunderstanding. Sir Thomas, I suggest it might be worthwhile for you to detect evil on this bunch, so that we can tell their intent."
Then he readies his hold person spell, to cast on anyone that looks to start violent action. [OOC: Cayzle, if the other party starts to attack, Ilsidur will cast his spell on any spellcaster. If their are no spellcasters, he will cast the spell on the most powerful fighter.]
"Get out!" (DM Cayzle) Friday August 16th, 2002 10:23:45 AM
The four living and four dead enter the clearing. The living have weapons ready. About 120 feet from the main group, they stop. You all see them clearly:
A human wearing a black robe over chain mail. He is holding two wands, one in each hand. The four zombies are standing close around him. He is wounded, and there's something wrong with his face.
A human wearing hide armor and a shield. He is wounded, and is standing a little back.
A big human in chain mail and a shield, also wounded. He's holding a sword and looks thoughtful.
A dwarf in studded leather armor, also wounded. He's using a huge double-headed ax almost as big as he is. He grins as he tosses his massive weapon from hand to hand.
The dwarf freezes as he sees Sly, Altemia, and Trace. "DIRTY ELVES!" he shouts, and he looks ready to charge!
The human in the black robe regards the Southern Lights. To the dwarf he says, "Kopad, HOLD for now or no curing!" The human then shouts out to you, "This is our camp. Get out now before things get messy. This is your only warning!" Then he points one of his wands at his comrade -- the human with chain, shield, and sword. You see the swordsman is healed somewhat.
The human in hide armor turns away from all of you and casts a spell on himself.
The healed swordsman stands still.
What do you do?
Ilsidur Friday August 16th, 2002 12:54:49 PM
Ilsidur whispers to Sir Thomas, "We REALLY need to know if this group has evil intentions!"
[OOC: Cayzle, any chance to let us know for this post?]
[Sorry, but I have to wait for Thomas to ask before I can answer. It's not fair otherwise. Besides, the newcomers are 120 feet away, and too far away anyway, I believe. -- Cayzle]
Sly Foxx and Luke Friday August 16th, 2002 3:02:48 PM
Sly will pick up his shield and with his weapon, he will smack his shield(making a big noise) "Well I was dead before and fight the Big Fight. Now I'm not back but for less than an hour, and right away I meet someone that does not like my ears. I have just started my fire for cooking and I'll be darn if I'm going to turn it over to some half dead fighters.
Now if you ask nicely, maybe well heal your wounds. Never be said that the Childern of Chaos do not turn there back on any body that need help."
Jurden (Ceil) Friday August 16th, 2002 3:13:40 PM
Jurden put his hand on Sly's arm, "Hold it, Child, These people are hurt and maybe that why they have no manners." Then Jurden speaks to the strangers, all the time taking out a wand. "Now it is not nice for strangers likr your self to order others to get out and leave their lunch untouch. Now I wish for you to explain yourself as to why all of you are so hostil?"
Shiraz Friday August 16th, 2002 8:44:10 PM
Shiraz looks at the group and smiles, " Why you are welcome to share our campsite for as my friends have said we dont turn aid from those in need. BUT you will be respectful of my friends, or leave." Shiraz does not sheath his swords and stands ready to attack if hostile moves are made.
Trace and Radiant Monday August 19th, 2002 3:29:16 AM
At hearing the insults for his race he merely smiles since it has been some time he has heard such. He turns to the group, "Well if you dont want to be peacefull then I have all the motivation I need to defend my self and friends. A simple set of options hear. Come in peace or leave without a word and just die. It is entirly up to you all at this point but we have faced death much stronger than you this week so make up your mind." Trace begins to work his sword around in his hand rolling it over in and out of his arm with rythem as the adrinlin begins to rise in expectation of a fight.
"Die Elves Die!" (DM Cayzle) d20+2=6 Monday August 19th, 2002 11:19:37 AM
Seeing Trace's swordplay, the dwarf is unable to hold back any further. He screams, "Die Elves Die!" and runs right at Trace. His short legs are not that fast, though, and he only gets 60 feet closer -- and that's at a run.
The ground is broken and pitted, and since he is running, the dwarf has to make a dex check to avoid a fall (DC15). He misses, and falls, 60 feet from you. He lays face down cursing into the earth.
The lanky swordsman, moving more quickly but also more carefully, strides up 60 feet as well, standing next to his friend, sword drawn.
The human in the black robe, surrounded by zombies, walks forward 30 feet and points his wand at the dwarf, who is then healed. He shouts out, "Let's not be hasty! Hold your attack!"
The human in hide armor walks up 60 feet and stands on the other side of the fallen dwarf, about 10 feet away. "You idiot!" he says to the dwarf.
Shiraz Monday August 19th, 2002 12:18:27 PM
Shiraz smiles and whips his swords up into a defensive posture. " That elf will not die this day small one or tomorrow either but you will die today if you step 1 inch closer to my friend." Shiraz looks at the three, " You have a choice to make I suggest you do it quickly."
Jurgen [Jeff] Monday August 19th, 2002 3:12:36 PM
Watching these people, doesn't do much for Jurgen. He was tired, mentally. His head hurt and far too much had gone on, but he wasn't sure what. And he really wasn't in the mood for much fighting. He had just come back from death and didn't feel too good.
But looking with more care, he could see what was happening. They were using the dead as slaves. He knew what it was like to be dead, but still partially alive. This creature may not have been fully able to comprehend it's predicament, but it shouldn't have been forced to stay. No. Jurgen would not let it.
Slowly and carefully, Jurgen begins to cast a spell to give him flight. He tries to stay quiet, not wanting to give away the fact that he's safely hidden. As the spell finishes, he stays on the ground. He wasn't quiet ready to go yet.
As Jurgen's hands rush around, searching for his scroll organizer, skimming along. Finally finding one of his Hidden Body scrolls. Now he starts this next spell, making himself invisibile. He watches and waits, for what to do next.
[Casting From Scroll: Invisibility - Target: Jurgen - Duration: 60 Minutes or Until First Attack]
Sly Foxx and Luke Monday August 19th, 2002 4:59:45 PM
"Hold! Stay! Luke, wait till I move." Then look at the prone Dwarf, "Your Lucky that this Half Elf is holding this war dog back. He thinks your bony and want to bury your bones." Sly still hold his position waiting for the siltiest twitch, then he'll attack them like mosquitoes on a sweaty arm.
Trace and Radiant Tuesday August 20th, 2002 2:48:11 AM
Trace stops his sword play and his grin widens as the dwarf spills on to the ground. "Stupid dwarf, are you filled with so much hate that you cant aviod death at the site of an elf? If you must fight, I will gladly end your suffering but again and for the last time I offer a truce for this camp we can share. This is the last offer, please come join us for camp there is allways safty in numbers.
Challenge! (DM Cayzle) d20=11 Tuesday August 20th, 2002 10:53:48 AM
The dwarf picks himself up and walks -- more carefully, and slowly, 20 feet closer. His smiling swordsman friend, still silent, keeps pace. Now they are 40 feet away.
The dwarf snarls at Trace. "The only truce I'll have is when I hang your cowardly lily-white body from a flagpole," he shouts. "Come on, you sissy! I'll give you the first shot. Take a swing at me before you die!" He grips his axe -- which has ax heads on both ends -- very tightly.
The human in hide armor hangs back a bit. He's about 45 feet away. He casts a spell and a swarm of bats appears about 20 feet from him and off to one side -- NOT attacking anyone, yet. Altemia recognizes a Summon Swarm spell.
The human in the black robe walks forward 30 feet with his Zombie escort. He's 60 feet away from the main group. Roll a spot check vs. DC 15 to notice that he has ulcers on his face and hands.
Jurgen casts his spell.
[OOC: Be sure to tell me if you want to change your position (see map, last post). Otherwise I assume you are standing still.]
Shiraz d20+1=2 Tuesday August 20th, 2002 2:57:59 PM
Shiraz moves to intercept the loud mouthed dwarf, holding his swords out in a defensive pose as he moves until he is within reach of the dwarf. "Move away and live or stay and die where you stand dwarf, we did not start this battle but my friends and I shall surely end this, your allies appear to be a little more cautious as might you be." Shoraz looks up, then back down not noticing the ulcers on the mage. "The time for talk is finished...LEAVE NOW!"
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+4=18 Tuesday August 20th, 2002 3:50:55 PM
(OOC: made my spotcheck 18)
"YOU HEARD HIM, DOG MEAT!" Sly yells at the dwarf. To Luke, He orders "Don't move until I do, I want him to swing once before you jump him, Luke." (Sly is standing still, and controlling Luke. As best he can)
Clarification (DM Cayzle) Tuesday August 20th, 2002 4:35:46 PM
Here's a map from yesterday. This turn (not shown on the map) the dwarf and swordsman advanced 20 feet closer, and is now 20 feet away. The human in hide armor came 15 feet closer. The guy surrounded by zombies came 30 feet closer.
Shiraz walks up 30 feet and is now standing next to amd in front of the dwarf. Remember that as a Large Minotaur, Shiraz has a 10-foot reach. He can attack from 10 feet away. The dwarf and/or swordsman will have to take a five-foot step up to be in melee range.
Ilsidur Tuesday August 20th, 2002 9:54:36 PM
Ilsidur moves up to stand beside the minotaur, unlimbering his waraxe and shield along the way, but holding them unthreateningly at his side. He looks at the dirt-covered dwarf and says, "Hold it right there. If you want to attack anyone in our party, you will have to pass through us." He keeps his 'hold person' spell ready, to cast at any member of the other group that actually makes an offensive action (other than posturing and shouting). [OOC: Cayzle, I need you to make this call, if you think it appropriate.]
Trace and (Radiant +1 att & dmg) d20+9=20 Wednesday August 21st, 2002 3:31:52 AM
Trace only shakes his head at the offer of swinging first. He reaches up with his free hand and touches Radiant. He whisper under his breath "D'Mass" and the hardend holly leaf around his neck has a faint glow. (Radiant has had magic fang lvl 1 cast on him.) As Trace does this he looks over the group to size them up. (spot check of 20) Trace sees the marks on the face of the one surrounded by the zombies but is unsure of what to make of them.
Jurgen d20+3=22 d20+3=12 Wednesday August 21st, 2002 5:01:20 AM
Watching carefully from his tree, Jurgen begins to formulate a plan. Taking enough hemp rope to tie it around the tree, he does so, letting the rest stay around his stomach.
[Use Rope Check - Success At DC 10, With A 12]
Slowly uncoiling his rope, he begins to fly towards the undead. If he could bunch them all together, he could save him with one or two quick moves. Hopefully it would all turn out right. As he moves through the air, Jurgen attempts to be as silent as possible, he didn't want to give away his plan before he could start it.
[Move Silently Check - Listen DC: 22]
When he is close to the zombies, Jurgen goes to the far side of them, keeping the rope in his hands. Now he has constructed a crude trip wire (I believe it should still be invisible as I am touching it). Pulling out his pick, he strikes it into the ground. As he does so, he moans loudly, trying to immitate the undead. Then he loops the rope around the mining tool, twice. Then he continues to hold the rope, flying about 10 feet above the ground, over top of his trip wire. He grabs a potion bottle [Cure Light Wounds] and tosses it a few feet in front of the undead, hoping to get them to move forward.
First Blood! (DM Cayzle) Wednesday August 21st, 2002 11:15:32 AM
Shiraz strides up to within 10 feet of the Dwarf, and he is joined by Ilsidur. The dwarf cleric readies a Hold Person spell to use in the case of real aggression.
Sly, with Luke, and Trace, with Radiant, hang back -- as does Altemia. Sir Thomas steps forward ten feet and concentrates. "The man in black, with the zombies, is evil," he declares.
Uteva remains crouched down at the old campsite in a depression in the ground. So far no one has looked her way.
Jurgen, flying invisibly, sets up his rope as fast as he can. His distraction succeeds in tricking two zombies, the ones in front of the man in black robes, and they topple forward. The robed man hears Jurgen's moan, sees the tossed vial, sees the rope after the zombies get entangled, and shouts, "Invisible Attack!"
Jurgen sees that the black-robe has hideous sores and ulcers covering his body. The smell and the ooze makes him gasp. If he had to get in melee range of the fellow, he'd be afraid of losing his lunch! Note that Jurgen is still invisible.
The hostile dwarf says, "Hah! Cowardly elves! Let a dwarf and a cow protect you, then! You may be big, Mr. MooCow, but you'll go down before my ax!" The dwarf looks at the swordsman expectantly.
The human swordsman moves langorously but quickly forward, to the side of the minotaur and then behind him. He then attacks Shiraz with his sword.
Before the swordsman makes his attack, Shiraz gains an attack of opportunity, and Ilsidur casts his readied spell. The DM rules that logically Ilsidur casts his spell on the dwarf (rather than potentially waste Shiraz's AoO). The spell goes off uninterrupted, since Ilsidur is out of reach of any enemy -- the spell's DC is 16. The Dwarf rolls a 12 and fails! He is held!
Then Shiraz gains an attack of Opportunity on the swordsman.
Then the swordsman attacks. He hits AC 20 -- exactly what he needs to get past the monotaur's breastplate! The stabbing longsword pokes Shiraz for 5 hit points of damage.
Then Shiraz gains his normal action. (Wade, please post both the AoO and your normal action with your next post. The swordsman's AC is 21. Wade and Ilsidur, if you attack, you get a full-round action, with any multiple attacks to which you are normally entitled. The rest of the party gets only a single attack since they have to move into combat as well.)
The human in the black robes commands the fallen zombies to get up, and then he casts a spell -- a stinking cloud of poison vapors appears, engulfing Sly, Luke, Trace, Radiant, Thomas, Prytte, and Altemia. Everybody in the cloud, please make a Fortitude save vs. DC 14. If you make it, you can act normally, but you will have to save again if you stay in the cloud. If you fail, all you can do is one move-equivalent action.
The human in Hide armor directs the swarm of bats to engulf Ilsidur. There is no save. A creature in the swarm who takes no actions other than fighting off the creatures takes 1 point of damage on its turn. A creature in the swarm who takes any other action, including leaving the swarm, takes 1d4 points of damage +1 point per three caster levels. Spellcasting or concentrating on spells within the swarm is impossible. You can leave the swarm and then act normally, but then you take the damage.
Then the human in Hide armor casts Chill Metal on Shiraz's gear and armor! Wade, please make a Will save vs. DC 18. This round you are cold -- next round you'll start taking damage.
Here is a map of the latest action. There is both a large scale map and a blown up detail.
Shiraz d20+13=17 d20+13=26 d10+8=14 d20+12=13 d20+7=16 d20+12=17 d20+2=6 Wednesday August 21st, 2002 11:54:55 AM
Shiraz takes his AoO versus the man in Hide armor hitting AC 26<used hero Point> for 14 points of damage. Then as the man in Hide begins to cast again Shiraz attemtpts to hit him missing all three times. Shiraz cries out as he fails his save. "What in the name of Domis hammer is happening here?"
Uteva d20+9=29 d20+9=14 d8+1=5 d8+1=7 d8+1=7 Wednesday August 21st, 2002 12:00:06 PM
Cursing her hesitation, Uteva climbs out of the depression and, unlimbering her bow, moves 30' north. She keeps the large tree between herself and the fellow in the hide armor. She knocks one of her better arrows and takes aim at the black-robed man in the midst of the zombies. If he seems to be casting a spell or aiming a wand, she looses at him. (Readied shot hits automatically, crit if AC 14, 5hp [19 if crit])
Ilsidur Wednesday August 21st, 2002 12:38:16 PM
Fighting off the swarm (and taking one point of damage), Ilsidur looks around and counts up his companions. "Jurgen, you dummy!" he shouts, "Why did you have to go and start something! Get back here behind me; these guys are no more evil than we are!"
Then he turns to the human in the hide armour, and the 'thing' surrounded by the zombies, and calls out, "Let's stop this now! No one is seriously hurt, and my spell only holds the dwarf in place, not hurting him. Call off your fighters and release your spells, and we can end this before it goes any further!"

[OOC - Sly makes his Save 21, Hit twice the first 17 - the second 24, Damages for 10 and 7. Luke makes his save 17, Bites 23, damages 8]
When Sly see that they are two on the Minotaur, Sly attacks the dwarf with his windmill attack (that where Sly hit the dwarf once spins, then momentum spins him for a second attack). "Go GET Him, Luke!" They both rush the dwarf for Sly hits him twice and Luke bites the dwarf jugular, and you know Luke will not let go until Sly tells him to.

(clears check for cloud) Trace sends Radiant to attack the man surrounded by the zombies in hope to keep him distracted from making spells. (hits with claws doing total of 5 hps dmg.)
Trace steps out of the cloud and behind the swords man attacking Shiraz and swings his longsword forcefully and delibertly (hits with 20 doing 11 hps dmg no second attack due to moveing) After Trace hits he shouts to Ilsdur, "Sir Thomas says they are evil and the fact that the dwarf wont let it go is enough for me to defend my self." Trace pulls his short sword as well for the second round of attacks.

Seeing his plan worked pretty well, although it didn't get the zombies clumped together as he wanted, Jurgen's face twists into a smile. Now he had the advantage. This man, no matter how smart, couldn't see Jurgen! Wonderful!
Letting go of his rope and grabbing his backpack, Jurgen pulls out nearly a dozen flasks, each filled with a slow moving liquid. He flies over top of the black-robed human and drops it all at once.
[I made attack rolls for all 10, but I don't know if I'm even able to drop them all at once. Basically, Jurgen just dropped them, letting gravity do it's work... But I thought attack rolls might be needed.]

Quickly twisting his dagger around at it's position, on his leg, Jurgen screams and lets himself fall to the ground, trying to appear dead Halting his breathing, not moving, ect.

Sir Thomas - [Clay] d20=4 d20=2 d20=8 d10=6 Wednesday August 21st, 2002 11:36:42 PM
[OOC: Glad to be back. Thanks for the cover while I was away.]
Thomas holds his breath as the cloud begins to form around him and his friends, successfully saving himself against the deleterious effects. (Rolled 4 + 11 Fortitude adjustment = 14)
Pryte's instincts about the magical cloud are not as finely tuned and so he unfortunately breahts the cloud in as it forms. It does not take him long after that to move from within the confines of the cloud. Pryte moves toward the mage surrounded by zombies while drifting to the left (bottom of the screen) of Shiraz. He takes his full move if he needs it, but his only goal is to get out of the stinking cloud. Once out he starts to make is way toward a zombie . . . planning a future attack.
Thomas, being quick to avoid the cloud, charges forward. He wants to get to the mage, but won't give up an Attack of Opportunity to do so. "I said the mage surrounded by zombies is evil Trace." Thomas shouts as he charges the human in hide armor (4). "We should have no desire to harm anyone else." Once those words leave his lips it becomes obvious to any and all watching that Thomas was bluffing with his sword as he charged. He moves the weapon so that it won't contact the man. Instead Thomas delivers a solid body check to the man hoping to knock him down or out of the way so Thomas can get to the mage. (Rolled 8 + 12 + 2 charge = 22 to hit)
[*OOC: NOTE: suffer -2 to AC next round; I don't know the rules involved with attempting this action, but I really want him to fall down so I can charge the mage and zombies next round. Sorry aabout the d10 roll. I thought I'd use my sword at first, but I think it would be better if I didn't specifically try to deal damage tot he man. I'm trying to set a good example you see. ;-) )

THE SOUTHERN LIGHTS
Shiraz hits the maneuvering swordsman (guy #3), getting past his chain mail for 15 hp damage. Then the minotaur takes a five-foot step towards the human in hide armor (guy #4) and takes three long mighty swings, with a bastard sword in each hand.
[OOC: Wade, I'm confused by your rolls: d20+13=17 (okay, that's your first AoO, which missed.) d20+13=26 (that's your rerolled AoO, which hit. HOWEVER, I think you should only be a +12 to hit, not +13. see below.) d10+8=14 (that's your damage, which is short by a point. You get +6 str, +2 weapon specialization feat, and +1 because its a +1 weapon. Your total damage bonus should be +9. You did 15 hp to the swordsman, not 14.) d20+12=13 d20+7=16 d20+12=17 (okay, these are your three full round attack rolls: primary sword, secondary sword, and then second attack with primary sword. Your bonuses should be +7 base, +3 str, +1 weapon focus feat, +1 magic sword, -1 large size, -2 attacking with two weapons = +9/+9/+4. They HAVE to be in that order, from highest to lowest; it's in the rules. So your modified rolls should have been 10, 18, 9. Since the guy in Hide armor is AC 18, you exactly hit on the middle attack. I rolled your damage at 1d10+3 str +2 ws, +1 magic = 14 hp damage.) d20+2=6 (that must be your failed save vs. Chill Metal.)]
The minotaur hits with his off-hand bastard sword, doing 14 hp damage to the human in Hide (guy #4). [OOC: The human would have been out of reach of a human, but those long minotaur arms let you reach over! Also, Wade, please mark down the used hero point and send me a new PC sheet at the battle's end.]
Uteva readies an arrow, hoping to disrupt the black-robed spell-caster (guy #1).
Ilsidur tries to make peace, but given the general melee, poison gas, swarming bats, and roars of pain all about, it's hopeless!
Sly and Luke race out of the Stinking Cloud and over to the held Dwarf. Sly runs wide around the swordsman to avoid an attack of opportunity. They attack the dwarf (guy #2), each getting just one attack since they moved this round. They inflict 18 hp damage to the dwarf. Next round, Sly and/or Luke can deliver coup de grace attacks. [OOC: Ceil, if you have a whole round to spend and you attack a helpless opponent, like this dwarf who was held by Ilsidur, you get a special attack called a "coup de grace" which automatically does damage and kills the victim if they fail a save. You can try that next round if you like.]
Trace and Radiant emerge from the Stinking Cloud.
[OOC: Ted, I'm confused by your rolls too: d20+7=25 (that's your save vs stinking cloud no problem.) d20+13=20 (that looks like your attack on the swordsman, but your longsword is only +11, not +13. You get your +6 base, +3 str, +1 magic sword, and +1 weapon focus feat. So you only hit AC 18, not 20, a miss) d20+6=21 (that's Radiant's attack, but where's his save vs Stinking Cloud? I'll roll it.) d2+1=3 d2+1=2 (that's Radiant's damage, but both claws combine into one damage roll, not two. We'll talk more about Radiant's stats after the fight. For now, he gets just one damage roll.) (And you say your sword damage is 11, but where is the roll for that? Doesn't matter after all, since you missed.)]
Both bird and ranger emerge without any ill effect from the Cloud. Trace orders Radiant to attack the man in black robes (guy #1). As the hawk flies at the man, the bird smells the putrescent oozing pus leaking out of the ulcers on the man's face. The hawk is fearless, though, and unaffected by the diseased man (immune to fear effects). Radiant hits for 3 points of damage. Trace steps up to attack the swordsman (guy #3), but misses. He gets out his masterwork short sword, ready to attack with two weapons next round (Trace will get three attacks: +9 with long sword, +9 with short sword, and +4 with long sword, second attack).
Jurgen, flying invisibly overhead, drops a flask of oil on the man in black (guy #1). [OOC: I'm assuming this is Alchemist's fire.] The young sorcerer is close, about ten feet overhead, but not close enough to suffer the full effect of the man's disgusting disease. He only has time to throw one grenade-like missile, but with his height advantage and invisible attack, he manages to hit full on! The diseased man in black robes takes one point of damage, and he is on fire. He'll take another d6 next round unless he puts himself out.
Then Jurgen drops to the ground, feigning death.
Sir Thomas charges out of the poison cloud, running right at the human in hide (guy #4). The human, looking scared, and bleeding from the minotaur's sword, seems happy to let Thomas run right by. [OOC: this is an "overrun" maneuver, from the PHB] Thomas continues to charge the evil man in black, but a zombie is in his way (one of the ones Jurgen knocked down last turn). So Sir Thomas charges the zombie instead. Swinging his bastard sword with both hands, Thomas puts a huge gash into the undead thing. Pryte, overcome by the poison, walks off out of the cloud.
THE ENEMY
The Swordsman (guy #3, AC 21) grins at Trace and attacks. He holds up his shield and lashes out with his sword. He hits AC 18 and AC 11, so one blow draws blood. Trace suffers 10 hp damage. He shouts out, "Fight, Greegan! Fight, you animal!"
The human in black robes (guy #1, AC 15) orders the two fallen zombies to get up. He orders the third zombie to attack Jurgen. He orders the fourth zombie to go where he directs. He steps away from Radiant (the hawk gets an Attack of Opportunity). He points his wand at Sir Thomas (Jurgen, lying on the ground, is not in his way). Uteva's arrow hits the man (no critical) for 5 hp damage, but does not stop him from using the wand against Thomas. A thin glittering yellow beam shoots out of the wand and hits Sir Thomas. The paladin feels it draining his strength. Save vs DC 13 or suffer 10 points of strength loss.
The human in hide armor directs the bats to attack Shiraz. They swarm all over him, leaving Ilsidur. Shiraz also takes 2 hp of chill damage this round.
Then the human takes a five foot step back and changes into a cheetah.
Altemia, affected by the Stinking Cloud, remains there, coughing.
Here is a map of the latest action. There is both a large scale map and a blown up detail.
Trace and (Radiant +1 att & dmg) d8+4=10 d20+11=24 d20+6=19 d8+4=8 d20+6=24 d20+6=11 d2+1=2 Thursday August 22nd, 2002 2:05:15 PM
(my last attack did hit since I came up behind the swordsman it is flanking which gives me a +2 to attack and that is how I got my 13 instead of 11. The reason for the two rolls on Radiant because of two claws. I dont know how I got 11 before but I rerolled for my dmg and it is 10.)
Trace is hammered by the blow and instinct take over weilding his two swords as he moves in for another round, he drops his short sword and decides to attack with just the one sword. Trace moves in with his longsword hammers the man again with another sure strike (hit 24 with 8hps dmg).
Radiant continues to dive bomb the man in the black robe, (hits with 24 on Att Of Opp and misses with reg turn. doing 2 hps dmg I would also think with a large bird attacking that his spell casting would be disrupted?)
[Ted, good answer about the flanking. But please mention it in future posts so I know what you're doing. Yes, Radiant would have a chance to disrupt a spell, but the guy hasn't cast one -- just used his wand, which doesn't get disrupted by an attack. -- Cayzle]
Jurgen [OOC] Thursday August 22nd, 2002 2:53:55 PM [No, It's not Alchemist's Fire at all. It's just Oil.
[Ranged Attack - Weapon: Flasks of Oil[10 Pints] - Target: Black-Robed Human - Hits if AC is 16, 23, 18, 16, 20, 10, 26, 7, 19 or 14]
Sorry about that, I think I was being quite confusing.]
Jurgen d20+5=17 2d6(4+5)=9 Thursday August 22nd, 2002 3:28:01 PM
The fallen sorcerer pushes the flasks towards the Black-robed, disease struck man. He now only had to light it up. Where there's smoke and fire, there's usually Jurgen. He jumps up, shouting to Trace at the same moment.
"GET THE BIRD AWAY!" Then he begins to bring forth the mighty power of flame, which would just be heightened by the explosive oil. He beings to dodge and move around, to avoid getting hit while using his magic. A ball of fire, not much bigger then a dog, comes into existence.
[Concentration Check For Casting Defensively, As Not To Provoke Attacks Of Opportunity - Success Against DC 17 [15 + Spell Level 2] With A 17]
[Spell: Flaming Sphere - Target: The Black-Robed Man - Damage: 2d6 = 9 + Oil?]
Jurgen, feeling insanely brave and stupid, makes it go towards where he set the oil down and the zombie's master. He closes his eyes, trying to save himself. He whispers a prayer to one of the gods, he's not really sure which ones are what.
[Jurgen is basically standing right where he's set the fireball, unfortunately. I think the oil will effect the two closest zombies, the diseased man, Jurgen and Radiant if he didn't get away. I haven't rolled for the oil itself, because I'm really unsure.]
Sly Foss and Luke d20+11=29 d20+3=23 d8+6=10 d6+3=9 Thursday August 22nd, 2002 6:58:55 PM
Sly will try for the coup de grace on the Dwarf (#2), Hitting him only once for 10hp of damage (I hope). Luke will not let go of the Dwarf, Luke will bit into his windpipe and hold until the dwarf is dead. But Sly will turn and face the Swordsman and take his stance, lifting his bloody sword and ask him, "Want to join your little friend? Or are you having seconds though?"
If he look into Sly's eyes, he will see an old fighter in a boy's body, ready to back up his treats.
Uteva d20+12=29 d20+9=11 Thursday August 22nd, 2002 7:48:58 PM
Uteva makes her way across the rough ground and through the cluster of trees north of her. The freckled bard projects her trained voice, pitching it to carry over the shouts and under the ring of steel.
"Southern Lights, stay your hands! Who is served by slaughter over racial slurs? Will Domi smile on us? Will Flower, or Alemi?"
As she comes in sight of the full battle, she takes aim again at the sorceror. "You, black-robe! Stand off and we'll discuss this. If you attempt a spell, I'll shoot you again. (perform? diplomacy? = 29 or 30. Readied shot, 11, misses the sorceror -- possibly hits a zombie or Radiant?)
Shiraz d20+12=15 d20+12=27 d20+7=14 d10+6=10 Thursday August 22nd, 2002 9:04:08 PM
Shiraz shouts loudly as the cold and swarm start to get to him,"Blasted finger wiggling, Imod's hammer down on you!" The huge taur reaches out in frustration hitting AC 15,27,14. Hitting once for 10 points of damage.
Ilsidur d20+8=19 Thursday August 22nd, 2002 10:16:05 PM
Ilsidur sees Sly and Luke about to slaughter the helpless dwarf, and charges at the two of them, shouting, "Sly, call off your dog! Would you slaughter a helpless person? The dwarf issued an honest challenge, although maybe for the wrong reasons!" He will try to tackle both the dog and Sly, since they seem to be in line from him. As he piles in, he shouts, "Sir Thomas, help me stop this killing!"
Sir Thomas d20=11 d20=11 d20=15 d10=4 d10=9 d20=12 Friday August 23rd, 2002 12:32:55 AM
(Rolled 11 + save modifier = ? What am I saving against? Fortitude + 11 = 22; Reflex + 5 = 16; Will + 8 = 19. bottom line . . . it doesn't matter because I save against 13 no matter what.)
With his attention focused mainly on the black-robed man, Thomas sees the wand come up in his direction. He uses the zombie's position to his advantage by moving so that the zombie is between him and the black-robed man. He also raises his shield. to protect himself, but it is not needed as the beam of light passes over the zombie's shoulder and off into the distance.
Thomas prepares to strike the zombie down, but he stays his hand in its poised position. (Readied actions two attacks with Thomas' bastard sword. I will attack the zombie with both attacks. If he falls I will back away defensively. I will not attack at all if it seems that the fighting might stop. I reserve my action to the until I can make that determination, but if I think I or any of my friends are in immediate danger I will continue with my actions . . . but I'd prefer not to.)
(READIED ACTIONS: Rolled 11 + 12 = 23 to hit zombie; 4 + 4 = 8 dmg; Rolled 15 + 7 = 22 to hit either zombie or black-robed man/cheetah; 9 + 4 = 13 dmg)
"I wish none of you any ill will! Do we all understand that we are fighting over a campsite? I care not to stay here any longer, and we can all leave if no one feels immediately threatened. I will walk away if my friends can come with me . . . no questions asked. What do you say balck-robe?"
(Made a final roll for Diplomacy if it might help the situation. Rolled 12 + 10 = 22)
Pryte-Honos moves to Thomas' side, or a few feet away(30' maz), even if he has to take a long way around to avoid an AoO. Pryte does not move into a position that will threaten anyone, and also protects himself from other attacks in the process . . . hopefully.

Trace keeps fighting the swordsman, opening a shallow gash in the human's leg, for 8 hp damage. Radiant flies at the black-robe, tearing at an arm for 2 hp damage.
Jurgen gets up and casts his spell, Flaming Sphere. The bouncy ball of fire is only three feet in diameter. It only affects one person at a time [see description: "If it enters a space with a creature, it stops moving for the round and deals 2d6 points of fire damage to that creature. (The subject can negate this damage with a successful Reflex save.)"] Jurgen directs the ball at the oil-soaked man in black. The man is nimble, but not nimble enough to dodge the sphere (rolled a 15, DC is 17). He takes 7 hit points of damage (I took the 1 hp of " Alchemist's Fire" I rolled last round and applied it as bonus damage to the 2d6 damage from this round to represent extra oil damage).
Sly and Luke attack the held dwarf, trying to kill him. Sly does 10 hp of damage, and then is tackled by Ilsidur. Unfortunately, Ilsidur can't tackle both Luke and Sly in the six seconds available in a round -- the dog goes for the dwarf's jugular, killing him.
Uteva moves forward and shoots, but her arrow falls wide. Her diplomacy, however, seems to be well received, since the man in black falls back and speaks: "FALL BACK!!"
Shiraz strikes out at the cheetah who stands where the man in hide used to be. He hits the cat for 10 hp damage.
Sir Thomas also speaks out diplomatically, and holds his attack. Pryte walks up to him, but is still too affected by the poison gas to manage anything more than a slow walk.
In response to the words of Ilsidur, Thomas, and Uteva, the man in black steps back, calling his zombies to step back as well. The zombies gather around him, steering wide around the fire. Both the cheetah and the swordsman back off as well, the swordman behind a tree, and the cheetah sprinting away around Pryte and Thomas. Shiraz, if you like, you can take an Attack of Opportunity against the retreating swordsman.
The man in black shouts back to Thomas. "You say you will walk away with your friends? That's all I ever asked! Please feel free to depart, sir murderers! Just leave your victim behind to be buried by his grieving friends!"
Altemia remains in the gas cloud, overcome. The swarm bites at Shiraz, inflicting 6 hp of damage before the cheetah barks and the swarm flies away. The cold also inflicts 6 hp damage to the minotaur, and it is still very cold.
Friends, please in the future, please post your hit point status with each turn.
(I'll post a new turn as soon as everyone (except Aleyna) checks in, or Tuesday morning, whichever comes first. Thanks for your patience in my delay!)
Sir Thomas d20=1 Saturday August 24th, 2002 11:15:07 PM
Thomas sheaths his sword and gives a slight bow to the man in the black robe. He takes Pryte by the lead rope and begins to back away from the other group.
"I am truely sorry for your friend. The most unfortunate thing is that I think this was a big misunderstanding that was fueled by too many big egos. The campsite is yours, at least as far as I'm concerned."
Thomas walks over to the dead dwarf and checks him for any sign of life (Rolled a 1 for some kind of ability check). He then helps Ilsidur to his feet. "Do you have the ability to raise this man from the dead? Because if you don't we should go ahead and leave."
If Ilsidur can and will raise the dwarf Thomas stays. If Ilsidur cannot, Thomas leaves whether the rest of the group decides to continue the fight or not. Without any other words to friend or foe Thomas leaves the clearing with Pryte-Honos in tow.
Sly Foxx and Luke Sunday August 25th, 2002 11:50:10 AM
"Why did you jump me like that? Ilsidur, I was only trying to keep that HUMAN with the sword away from Shiraz. He's Bleeding you know?" Sly turn to Sir Thomas telling him, "And Sir I did not kill the Dwarf, Luke did and he was only doing his job. They did attack us first you know!"
Sly wipes his sword and sheath it, then put out the fire. As sly stumping the fire out, he mumbles (more to himself) 'I won't let my fire be used by bullies.' Sly will stand between Trace and Shiraz looking in his saddle bags for a couple of Cure wounds potions. "You know Trace, I saw my mother and father on the other side, BUT not my sister or my Sweetheart."
Trace(59) and (Radiant(12) +1 att & dmg) d10+5=15 Sunday August 25th, 2002 9:20:51 PM
Trace drinks down a cure light wounds potion healing his wounds. (15 only 10 needed) "I can't belive we are letting them off the hook! Sir Thomas said they were evil and they attacked first! I they were winning the fight we would still be fighting even if we tried to back down then." Trace points his bloody sword at the man surrounded by zombies. "Count your blessings if you have any, this could be your luckiest day ever." Trace spits on the ground and mounts onto Shadow offering his hand to Sly. "You want to ride little brother? We need to camp and talk with the others to find out what in the wold caused them to react in such a matter." Trace calls back Radiant as he lands on the Rager's shoulder. Trace turns Shadown around to face the intruders still pointing his sword at them. "May Domi show no mercy on you when you day comes! Yeaaa!" Trace spurs Shadow and gallops off in Sir Thomas's direction.
Shiraz Monday August 26th, 2002 10:29:49 AM
Shiraz brings up his swods ready to swing again, when he sees the swarm leave him and the attackers back off. "What in the name of Imod is going on here?" the taur questions. As his friends back off he will wait until all of his friends clear the camp site before backing out. "This is starting to hurt."
[OOC I have only seen 1 posting of damage taken by Shiraz Cayzle and that for 2 points of damage I need a total so I can drink a potion]
[OOC: Wade, Shiraz has taken 8 hp cold damage so far and 6 hp swarm damage. The swarm is gone, but the metal is still damagingly cold. -- Cayzle]
Ilsidur Monday August 26th, 2002 8:18:19 PM
Ilsidur accepts Sir Thomas' help getting up off the ground, and replies to him, "I am sorry, but I am not able to raise the dead, so I can't help this poor dwarf. I do feel some responsibility, since it was my spell that paralyzed him in the first place." He turns to the three remaining strangers, and says, "My intent was to stop your dwarf from goading any of our party into combat, to stop a potential clash that could result in pain and even fatalitity. Unfortunately, it had just the opposite effect. Now, please dispell that cloud of gas of yours, so that we can collect our incapacitated member." [OOC: If the wizard or whatever that threw the stinking cloud spell will not/cannot dispell it, Ilsidur will cast dispel magic, and go in and collect Altemia.]
He turns to leave, helping Altemia to get her breath back and hurries to catch up with Sly. "Sly, I thought both you and Luke were trying to kill that dwarf. Unfortunately, I tackled the wrong one; I should have knocked down Luke. In the future, please do not slaughter helpless foes, at least in front of me, unless we are certain that they are either very evil, or very dangerous (and that includes your dog). The dwarf had a huge ego, and was doing a lot of posturing, but he had yet to actually attack anyone when my spell paralyzed him. He even offered to let one of us take the first swing."
Then the dwarf walks off, shaking his head and mumbling about huge egos and lack of self-control.
Altemia (DM Cayzle) Monday August 26th, 2002 8:33:28 PM
The druid/ranger manages to stagger out of the cloud of gas on her own. She, like Pryte, is moving at half speed and not able to do much.
Sir Thomas Monday August 26th, 2002 9:22:52 PM
Hearing the continued provacation offered by his friends Thomas spins before he can manage his way out of the clearing. "Let's get two things straight! First, it was Jurgen that started the fight, so technically it was us that attacked first. Secondly, I said THE MAN IN THE BLACK ROBES is evil. Listen with your ears and process with you free mind!"
Thomas finishes by driving his final point home. "In any instance, let's all consider that we were fighting over a CAMPSITE. Domi would NOT praise nor honor us for this display. This was not justice in his eyes. So Trace, I say may Domi forgive US when we see him."
Thomas then continues to make his way out of the area.
Trace (59)and Radiant (12) Tuesday August 27th, 2002 3:33:22 AM
"All well and good but evil is evil so I dont see where the debate is on that. I was fighting to get to the man in black robes. Since when have given evil a free pass because they didnt strike the first blow, it has been my expirence the evil not taken care of while you have the chance will come back to haunt you another day! SO, use YOUR FREE MIND to ponder that situation. Case and point, Bear and Void who I may remind you are still alive even after we have kill Bear. I promise you, all of you. We have not seen the last of that man. I know it like I know nothing else. When people run with evil I consider them evil as well. That is why I didnt have a problem striking the swordsman. That and the fact that he stuck the tip of his sword into our friend Shiraz.
Our tight group of diffrent backgrounds has formed a unity. The stronger our unity that binds us, the stronger we become as a whole. That incident back there threatens our unity and in the future we need a quick vote on actions or our unity will be broken. I have my views and on more than one occasoin they have differed with some or all of the group but I will allways go with the decision of the group. In the future I would also like that if we are engaged in combat that you dont strike you own group for the simple fact that you might expose them to danger. Questions of combat should be expressed befor or after not during.
Lets get past this and find out what our direction is in life. Where do we go from here?
Jurgen [AC: 13 HP: 25] Tuesday August 27th, 2002 5:19:37 AM
"I am not fighting over a mere campsite. I am fighting for the souls of four dead who have not been given the chance to reach that barrier. You too faced a similar experience, an Undeath if you will. And now you just wish to let continue to be used as slaves? There is no greater pain in my heart then to have a friend hurt, but to let that be for naught? You are willing to let this evil walk away. Sir Thomas, you were chosen by Domi because you're strong, brave and wise. Yet now, you show none of these things. You show a willingness to walk away, when what you have devoted your life to eradicating still stands." Jurgen's eyes stare at the knight, then he turns away... Looking towards the ground.
He walks towards the Black-Robed man, walking calmly and carefully. Jurgen could not fight him now and win, perhaps he never could... Yet he had to be stopped. Maybe he would be. The disease that was plainly shown could kill him. And that, however slim the chances, would be how revenge was served.
"You will die. Not a quick death, no. I care not if it is at the hands of my magic, another's sword or the sickness that you possess. And if the will of the gods is served, you will feel the same fate as you employ on beings such as this." He waves a hand at the zombie closest him, turning around and walking towards Ilsidur. As he does so, he keeps speaking, becoming louder as he gets farther away.
"Death? Why do I speak so much of it? Imagine a world without it. Death must happen, for life to continue. It is not evil, but the perversion of the dead after so is. You grab the soul of those you murder, because you don't like their race. What do you do with this soul, as apposed to let if roam free among forever? You trap it in a body where it can do nothing, but obey. So no, I am not worried about death. I am worried about people," He scoffs as he says the word, "who are like you."
Sly Foxx and Luke Tuesday August 27th, 2002 5:29:18 AM
"Trace is right and so is Sir Thomas. If you remember I cannot Cook, that was a false campsite, I only started that fire to see who was coming in site, which turns out to be bullies and evil ones at that? The dwarf was only sizing us up, to see which one he was going to chop the legs off first. Sir Thomas did warn us that the hooded one was Evil. I heard him, now it look like I'll have to watch my back as well fight the foes." As Sly get ready to ride with Trace, he commands Luke, "Luke, Remember next time you attack evil, raise your paw First."
Luke (DM Cayzle) Tuesday August 27th, 2002 7:06:32 AM
"Ruff!" Luke says back to Sly, and Sly has no feeling that Luke understood him.
The dog licks the blood off his muzzle, so far as his tongue can reach, but he's still splashed with red.
Walking to Heranmar (DM Cayzle) Tuesday August 27th, 2002 7:17:09 AM
The Southern Lights walk out of the clearing, talking among themselves, past the man in black surrounded by zombies. He carefully watches them go without saying anything.
Everybody, please make a spot check as you go. Thomas and Trace, please make two spot checks.
You walk about an hour, and breaking out of forest, you see Heranmar in the distance. There are heavy plumes of smoke rising from the town, which you can clearly see even at this distance.
There's something going on at the small town's southern gate.
[OOC: You might want to check out the map of Heranmar on the Wold site: http://www.woldiangames.com/maps/southencontinent/heranmar.htm Note that the "Wayfarer's Abbey" is the ruined chapel and Arch, actually located further off into the woods. The "Firefly Inn" burnt down a long time ago.]
Sir Thomas d20=13 d20=17 Tuesday August 27th, 2002 10:35:58 AM
(Rolled 13 + 2 WIS = 15 and 17 + 2 WIS = 19 for spot checks)
As the group leaves the area of the fight, Thomas concludes his statements and then lets the matter drop. "I have much more to say on these points, but I will let them drop for the sake of group unity. I want you to know, Trace, that we have a difference of views on this matter."
Thomas then turns to Jurgen, "strength, courage, and wisdom are not found in swords nor magic young Jurgen. Evil or not, I don't believe that group had malicioius intent. That being the case, it is more noble and courageous for me to have stood and said my peace, standing in the face of danger, than to continue to fight blindly for what I did not believe in. Be careful, young Jurgen, what you insult about me; I hold my honor dear."
As the group approaches Heranmar and it becomes obvious that something unusual is happening at the gates, Thomas offers to scout it out. "I'm not sure what this looks like, but if you'll remember, Trace, all of the times we have been here always there has been a mob or group of townsfolk out for blood or worse. I think Trace and I should scout the situation with our horses so that if we need to get away quickly we can do so. I think the rest of you should wait a few hundered yards away from the outskirts of whatever this is that is going on."
If the group agrees to the wisdom of the fastest party members making a sort of scouting venture ahead then Thomas will spur Pryte-Honos into a canter and approach the scene ahead of the rest of the group. (Hopefully with Trace.) On the way in Thomas offers some friendly advice to Trace. "Lets just check out the situation and keep our swords in their sheaths. What do you say?"
Shiraz d20=16 Tuesday August 27th, 2002 12:52:55 PM
Shiraz waits until his companions are past all the usurpers of the campsite then backs out slowly. Making a last cursory look over before he leaves<spot 16> the taur sheathes his swords and walks away. After a few minutes more pass and Shiraz as absorbed all his companions say the huge taur finally speaks, "You are quick to spaek of your honor when it suits you, but what of our young mage here? He has honor as well and he felt so strongly of undeath tht he put his life on the line, to me that is honorable as well, do not mistake that your personal sense of honor or duty is any more important to you than mine is to me. I have never left a fight unfinished, and that is what I just did for the good of all of us I had to swallow my honor and limp away life a orc in the darkness...for you to lecture us. That was not over a campsitre or over a few words that was a bully on the play ground and we just let him slap us around like we enjoyed it." The taur looks around. "Perhaps I have said to much but that is my feelings on the issue, we may talk again and I probably will need to."
Sly Foxx and Luke d20=19 Tuesday August 27th, 2002 2:58:20 PM
(OOC: Spot Check 19+1= 20)
Sly rides on the back part of the saddled and takes a last look back. "Come! Luke!". Sly don't say much as they ride, BUT he is still steaming. Trace can hear Sly whispering under his breath 'I to have honor.'
When they can near the town of Heranmar, Sly could see the smoke rising. When Trace stop his horse, Sly slid down from the saddle and went to stand with the rest of the party.
Trace and Radiant d20+9=15 d20+9=12 Tuesday August 27th, 2002 3:44:50 PM
"Well when we are in safer quaters we will have another discussion about right and wrong but untill then lets keep our wits about us. Such talk right now seems to distract me. I agree with Sir Thomas about the scout. If trouble arises and we cannot escape, I will send Radiant back. If you see him then come calling but I doubt we will be held up on horses." Trace spurs Shadow and follows after Sir Thomas.
(spot check of 15 and 12)
As they move along Trace speaks to Sir Thomas, "We should be well recived. After all, we did bring the sun back to this town and stop the rain."
Ilsidur (68 hp) d20+4=6 Tuesday August 27th, 2002 10:12:46 PM
Walking away from the confrontation with his head down, mumbling about big egos, misplaced honour and needless killing, Ilsidur pays little attention to his surroundings. [OOC: Spot roll of 6, likely a failure.]
Ilsidur nods his head to Sir Thomas' suggestion, and steps off the road about 250 yards from the south gate. He watches the paladin and the ranger go farther towards the town, to find out what is going on.
Shiraz d20=7 d20+1=6 Wednesday August 28th, 2002 2:45:59 PM
After taking all the damage from the cold metal and swarm Shiraz limps along with the rest of the party, his stoicism showing he attempts to bind wounds on his own rather than ask for help. <Heal DC 6>
Jurgen d20-1=13 Wednesday August 28th, 2002 3:29:15 PM [Spot Check: Success if DC is 13 or Lower]
Jurgen takes a quick glance around, eyeing the area, before walking off. He smiles at Shiraz, walking towards the pained taur. At first he just walks silently, but then quietly speaks.
"I wanted to thank you, but I wasn't being honorable. I was being stupid. Trying to fight something, without having anyone to back me up... But I thank you, none-the-less."
And he just follows along, quietly, not particularly sure what's going on, but content to just let the group decide while he thinks.
Returning to Heranmar, Meeting an old Friend
Ravaged Heranmar (DM Cayzle) 2d4(1+3)=4 2d4(3+3)=6 d4=1 Wednesday August 28th, 2002 3:37:07 PM
As the Southern Lights leave the clearing,
Sly notices a whirling stone that circles the cheetah's head. The cheetah used to be the human in hide armor, but he changed shape. Sly has to yell at Luke, who snarls at the big cat.
Shiraz motices that the zombies are burdened down with valuables. He notes a fine tapestry.
Trace sees a sack and hears a heavy clinking inside.
Sir Thomas notes a fine ax stuffed in eh belt of one zombie. Thom also gets the weird feeling that he has seen that zombie's face before.
Over the course of the following rounds, as the group departs, Shiraz takes cold damage of 11 more hit points before the magic subsides. His binding fails to do anything against such fierce cold.
Thmas and Trace ride towards Heranmar. If in the past the townsfolk here have been surly or combative -- well -- all the fight has been beaten out of them, at least for the moment. This is clearly the scene of a fight of some kind. The outbuildings beyond the town wall are all destroyed. The southern gate has been broken in. wounded and dead villagers lie in the streets.
You see two curious details: scattered dead bodies of insects lay sprinkled here and there.
A few of the townsfolk see you, and you hear them say in whispers, "The Children of Chaos!" and "Destroyers" and "Saviors."
Then a dwarf pops up out of nowhere -- and you recognize him as Donk, who you last saw here long ago!
Sly Foxx and Luke Wednesday August 28th, 2002 4:29:13 PM
Sly had to yell twice at Luke, before the dog left that WereCat alone.
When Sly stop outside of town, he will bandage Shiraz's wounds and gives his his best healing potion. "Shiraz this is the best I can do for you, I don't have another clean shirt."
Sir Thomas Thursday August 29th, 2002 12:35:28 AM
As the he and Trace approach the town, Thomas tries to focus on the area through his now faded tattoo. He tries to recreate the feelings that he conjured up in the Void and Abandon while they were fighting the machine for the last time. He tries to channel his energy into seeing what happened to cause such destruction and to feel the mood of the people. He tries to use it also to relay what he sees to his friends who should be a few hundered yards away.
(OOC: I'm attempting to use any Chaos Powers that I may have. It's an exploration you see.)
Seeing Donk, Thomas looses his concentration and smiles. In a surprised yet pleased voice, Thomas welcomes the dwarf named Donk. "Donk! What a pleasant surprise. It has been a long time and it didn't appear that you would ever grace us with your presence again when last we saw you depart." THomas' tone then changes as he inquires about the mess. "How are you and what in Domi's good name happened here?"
Trace (59)and Radiant(12) d20+9=29 Thursday August 29th, 2002 2:36:13 AM
Trace sits on shadow look about as Sir Thomas catches up with Donk he surveys there surroundings for anyone that looks threating to their situation. Trace then gives his kind but short greetings as well.
(spot check 29 I see all!)
Trace thinks back to the zombies and tries to place the familiar face with some urgency.
Shiraz d20=19 Thursday August 29th, 2002 11:30:02 AM
Shiraz nods a Donk,"I dont believe we have met before I am Shiraz." The huge taur extends his hand in friendship. Shiraz tries to describe the men the group were fighting and asks if anyone here might know them.
Jurgen Thursday August 29th, 2002 2:21:35 PM
Staying with the group, the young boy begins to think about his friends. He had known them for how long? A few days, perhaps a week... But it seemed like a thousand eternities. And what had they become? Friends, a tight fighting group. Even Shiraz, who had been for less time then Jurgen, was part of them. Yet there seemed to be something missing, from the part that Jurgen played.
He didn't feel like he was helping them... Sir Thomas was often disappointed, it seemed, with Jurgen. He insulted Shiraz and Altemia, not meaning too. He even had the nerve to call Sly a boy.
There certainly was something different about Jurgen now, but, in the end, he was the same. He was an emotional, young man... His magic was fueled by his heart and soul. Not by some book, or his intelligence. And how could he work his magic, if he wasn't highly emotional? No, that was stupid reasoning. He just wanted an excuse for being annoying.
But then his mind shifted to that of the zombies, trying to imagine what he could have done... And even if he could, should he?
"Who am I to decide who lives and dies? I am no God, but the Gods don't seem to be able to control it themselves... I am no healer, choosing those that should be helped and those who shouldn't... I am no fighter, striking each blow, deciding when the kill comes... No, I am the Mage. I have to help the party, when he could, and even be brave when I have the chance. So who am I, to decide?" He doesn't even realize he's been speaking, not really caring when he does...
An Old and Inarticulate Friend (DM Cayzle) Thursday August 29th, 2002 8:07:40 PM
Sir Thomas tries to trigger the chaos power, and he feels something stir inside. But his need is not great, and it was always when you needed it the most that the power was most potent. Perhaps if you waited for a moment of desperation, when events are balanced on the knife's-edge of destiny, when the dice of fate are rolling, that invoking the power of entropy might make a difference.
Donk grins at Sir Thomas's greeting, and says, "Sometimes you come before trouble. Sometimes you come after trouble. But always trouble!"
But the friendly look in his eye contradicts his gloomy words. "Welcome trouble-friends!"
Seeing Donk brings back old memories in Trace, and he remembers who that darn zombie reminded him of. What do you know, it looked just like Crazy Bob, the shopkeeper who was Pip's boss before Pip joined the Southern Lights!
Donk points to the others holding back, and motions them to come close. "Come here, friends of friends! Bring troubles with you -- yours are small next to ours!"
You see that Donk is injured.
But his grip is strong as he reaches up to shake Shiraz's hand. "Hey! Bull-Man! Before Wold end we tell you get out town! Now, maybe not!"
Jurgen's musings are interrupted when Donk calls you all forward.
The dwarf tells Thomas, "Tell tale to all! Come all you here!"
Sir Thomas Thursday August 29th, 2002 11:12:42 PM
Thomas is encouraged by his small success at trying to voluntarily invoke the power of entropy . . . the curse and the cure. However, he puts future efforts off as other things fill his mind.
With a sort of nervouse chuckle Thomas offers a response to Donk's deeming them 'trouble-friends'. "Maybe its coincidence that we are surrounded by troubled happenings. Maybe we're just lucky. but personally, I think its the fact that we are the Children of Chaos." Thomas dismounts from his perch on Pryte's strong back. "May I be of service to you friend? I have Domi's power of healing." Thomas offers an outstretched hand, but waits for the dwarf to accept his offer before he uses his power.
"Are there other things that we might help do besides listen to this tale? We could help clean up, or rebuild walls, or try our best to heal the sick and wounded. Between the few of us we have many talents and skills. ALL of which are very important and necessary in their own unique ways."
"As before brave friend, we will follow wherever you lead and do whatever you ask." Thomas gives an encouraging wave of his hand, "after you good sir."
Ilsidur Thursday August 29th, 2002 11:49:19 PM
Ilsidur joins up with Sir Thomas and the rest, to hear the dwarf's story.
Sly Foxx and Luke Friday August 30th, 2002 10:15:26 AM
Sly follows Shiraz tucking in the bandages. Seeing Sir Thomas give the sign to follow then into town. Walks up to Dunk, shakes his hand, "Hello, my name is Sly Foxx and this is my dog Luke. Glade to meet you."
Shiraz Friday August 30th, 2002 12:33:39 PM
Shiraz mutely follows Donk into the town.
Trace and Radiant d20+9=21 Friday August 30th, 2002 1:24:43 PM
Trace moves up next to Sir Thomas, "not to open wounds or anything. But I think one of those zombies back there was Pip's fauther. We should at least demand the zombies be freeed. At least for Pip's father's sake. You must see this. It bothers me greatly knowing that we are leaving him in the controll of someone evil. I dont know why but I am feeling a great urgency in this. I also think those people are some sort of grave robbers stealing from the dead around here and the man in black is raising the dead to carry the bounty. The picking up of fortune dosnt bother me but the use of the dead does. Even more so that we know the dead. Me I would be outraged if I was used after I was supposed to be dead and gone from this wold." Trace continues to look around waiting for Sir Thomas's answer (spot 21) Trace pulls up on Shadows reins to drive home his urgency. Trace then looks to the others, "Sorry, even after preaching unity I must go back to free the zombies. I know one of them. He was a friends father I knew not long ago and I must do the right thing."
Jurgen Friday August 30th, 2002 3:42:19 PM
Jurgen, who still wasn't sure what to make of anything, goes towards this Donk fellow. He seemed decent enough and appear to know everyone, with the acceptions of Shiraz and himself. He was a... strange man. That's where he'd leave it. Strange and fun.
Then Trace talks of a Pip, someone who Jurgen had heard of before... but didn't quite remember. He seemed important to Trace, which ment that there was a job to be done. Trace could not fight them alone.
"Trace, I know not who Pip is... But I won't let them continue." He looks around for a moment, not at anything specific, but at sights to help him think. "Hah! It's my destiny to choose who dies. I am good. I have been chosen to walk a path that is both the good fight and dangerous. I may die trying, but it's my job to quench evil. I may not see some things as evil, as Sir Thomas does... but what I do see, I will fight them. This pervervision is something I wanted to stop before, but couldn't myself. Perhaps now we can."
He puts his backpack on the ground, and begins to take things out. "I've got a Potion of Haste, two Potions of Cure Light Wounds, two Potions of Cure Moderate Wounds, Scrolls of Mage Armor [4], Spider Climb [2], Sleep, Tenser's Floating Disk [2], Mirror Image, Fly Dispel Magic and Invisibility, a Wand of Silence with 3 Charges, a Wand of Light and 2 Tree Feather Tokens. And I've still got my regular arsenal of spells, so I can make you fly... And two others, if they decide to come." He smiles briefly, getting himself ready.
The Story of the Rape of Heranmar (DM Cayzle) Friday August 30th, 2002 11:20:21 PM
Donk motions you over to a crowd of wounded townsfolk. "No heal Donk!" he tells Thomas, "Heal these almost dead people."
When the townsfolk realize who you all are, some shy away -- but when they hear there may be magical healing, they crowd around, begging.
The townsfolk are eager to tell the story, and since Donk has disappeared again, you listen to their bragging chatter.
"We fought off the Dark One!" "Yeah! Right up to the end of the Wold we fought!" "Then his right hand men came back! The scoundrels!" "They plagued us with bugs! Stinging bugs!" "But we chased them off!" "But they killed lots of people! Gemmy. Samyule. Crazy Bob. James the Cooper."
You get a picture of events, gradually.
Before the endtime, the Army of Marteaus (at least, part of it) had just about advanced as far as Heranmar. Some parts of the Army did attack the outskirts of Heranmar, just before the end. Buildings outside the wall were damaged, and the southern gate was destroyed. It seems clear to you that despite the bragging of the townsfolk, they would have been crushed if the Wold hadn't ended first.
After the Wold was renewed, a gang of scoundrels looted the town -- that was just this morning. They summoned storms of insects that covered the town, and in the chaos the gang looted Heranmar. There were three humans, a dwarf, and a half-elf. The townsfolk, lead by Holly and Donk, killed the thieving half-elf, but a half-dozen people were killed, and thrice that number lie at death's door.
The black robed human gave Holly a disease, and she is one of the one's that may die.
Just then Donk returns, with an elf. They are carrying Holly, who you remember. She looks very badly injured and infected with some disease.
Sir Thomas Saturday August 31st, 2002 1:00:21 AM
At Trace's mention of Pip, Thomas is able to put the math together. "Crazy Bob! He was Pip's dad . . . and he was one of those zombies! Trace, you are right, we have no choice but to pursue that group. I will stay here and heal the sick and wounded until I no longer have Domi's grace in these matters. I think we should try to bring the evil ones back here. How will we fight the zombies who we used to call friends? Will it free them to kill them?"
Thomas has many more questions, but is interrupted by Donk's and the townsfolk's story. He listens intently. Then sees Donk bring Holly forward from somewhere deep within the crowd. He calls to Donk, "bring her here friend." While he waits he offers advice about how to approach the next few minutes. "We shouldn't allow them any further head start, but attacking them with only a few of us is out of the question too. Trace, I would suggest you go ahead with Jurgen, Shiraz, Altemia, and Uteva. Ilsidur, Sly and I will stay here to offer as much assistance as we can and then follow with all of the speed we can afford. Maybe we could borrow some horses. Leave us a trail to follow so we can find you quickly and easily. What do you all think of that plan?"
Thomas then kneels over Holly and begins to pray. His prayer is not a silent one, nor is it usual as far as prayers go. It appears as if Thomas is casting a spell. (Remove Disease 2x per week; spell-like ability on Holly.)
(OOC: I don't know if this will help speed the game along, but this is my plan for Thomas' actions in the next few rounds or minutes or hours . . . Thomas will Remove Disease on someone else as he gets time. He will also expend all of his healing powers if they are needed. He will distribute them in increments of 1 and 2 to prevent further digression and to be able to help the most people. He will then offer advice about how to treat injuries and sicknesses with natural healing. If it is absolutely necessary he will give those in dire need greater proportions of healing.)
Altemia (DM Cayzle) Saturday August 31st, 2002 6:36:33 AM
Altemia steps up and offers her help as well. Then she says to Sir Thomas, "A few minutes is all you can spare. Let me stay here to tend the wounded while you and all the others go on the chase!"
[OOC: That keeps the party together and solves my problem of what to do with Altemia while Aleyna is on walkabout.]
Preparing for a chase (DM Cayzle) Saturday August 31st, 2002 6:43:17 AM
[OOC: If you guys really are going to chase after the scoundrels right away, please post or e-mail me a complete list of spells memorized and cast, current hit points, items used, etc.]
Sly Foxxand Luke Saturday August 31st, 2002 3:44:15 PM
"Sir Thomas, Pip was a friend of mine, may I go with Trace and do what I can against the evil ones? I'll give Altima all my cure potion I have about six with me here. I also have a bed roll of Comfort that heals you one hp per night. May I go?" Sly ask with pleeding Eyes.
"Hay! Trace wait for me." Sly turn and runs after Trace, and Luke follows Sly. (the dog know there's goint to be some fun up ahead.)
Uteva (DM Cayzle) Sunday September 1st, 2002 2:21:17 AM
"Altemia, I'll join you here," the bard says.
[OOC: sad news -- Lee-Anne is joining Aleyna on walkabout. :-( ]
Jurgen Monday September 2nd, 2002 5:47:27 AM [Hey, Cayzle... I'll send you an updated character sheet A.S.A.P. I'm just away from home, right now and at a horrid computer, so I must hurry.]
Jurgen turns to Sir Thomas, nearly laughing. His eyes are wide and his mouth is open. He looks shocked, and humoured, both.
"You will help save a soul, if it was a friend. I see... That is an interesting way of fighting against unjustice and protecting the weak." He grabs his potions, handing them to Donk, making sure that they're fulling intact. "Use them well, and help those in need."
With that, Jurgen brings forth the magic that will let him soar like the birds. He could reach them faster, if he did choose as such. Yet he probably should stay back, perhaps to keep himself alive? Yes... that'd be a plan. Stick to the air, high up, and he'd be safe,
[Casting: Fly - Duration: 60 Minutes]
Ilsidur Tuesday September 3rd, 2002 12:38:46 AM
"Jurgen, before you accuse us of not protecting the weak and not fighting injustice, maybe you better sit with us and have a beer and a discussion of what has gone before. How do you know the zombies still carry the souls that originally inhabited the bodies? I have always heard zombies and skeletons referred to as the "mindless undead". Doesn't that mean they likely also don't contain souls? I agree that undead are an abomination, but I also don't agree with senseless battling and killing over what essentially are empty vessels. However, since it turns out that that party was also responsible for a number of deaths and spreading disease (regardless of whether they affected friends or not), they should be punished."
"Sir Thomas, since Uteva and Altemia will wait here with the wounded, I suggest we get after the killers. If Shiraz can climb up on your horse with you, Sly gets on with Trace, and I cast my fly spell on myself, it is likely that we can catch them before they get too far. I know that zombies can only move very slowly." He notices Jurgen hovering slightly off the ground. "I see that you can fly, too. Let's be off after them."
Almost in Pursuit (DM Cayzle) Tuesday September 3rd, 2002 10:41:35 AM
Sir Thomas prays over Holly, who immediately looks much better and falls into a healing sleep. He and others int he group help out with the injured. The townsfolk seem very grateful for this help. "Saviours," you hear a few whisper.
When it becomes clear that two are staying to help and the rest are hurrying off in pursuit of the villains right away, those whispers get louder.
Even Donk grins. "Go you friends! Bring trouble to bad guys! Come back with dead and all they stole!"
As Ilsidur looks from Pryte to Shiraz, it is clear that the minotaur, weighing 800 lbs and standing 8 feet tall, could no more ride a horse than Sly could ride Luke. It occurs to Ilsidur that he himself could clamber into the saddle and cast the spell on the minotaur, as one option [OOC: The DM is not offering hints -- just respondsing to ideas]. Also, FYI, since it took about an hour to walk here, riding and flying back would take about a half hour. Given your healing activities, talking to Donk, etc, if you race back right now, it will have been about two hours since you left the ruined chapel and the clearing in which you fought earlier today.
Trace (59) and Radiant (12) Tuesday September 3rd, 2002 12:15:47 PM
Trace and pulls Sly up onto shadow and leads the others out back the direction they came. As they make there ride Trace talks to the others, "Well should we charge in or try and sneak up. I have a feeling they will be on guard and a full out charge should do the trick to gain supprise as we run them down on our horses."
(magic fang used earlier with summon natures aly 1 left)
Sly Foxx and Luke Tuesday September 3rd, 2002 4:03:42 PM
Sly hop on the back of the horse, "Thanks, Big Brother, I think I have something that will stop those Zombies. I recently came in the possession of a Rod of Ice Storm. Do you think it will stop any of them? What else can we do?"
Seeing Jurden Flying, "Hey! Jurden do you see anything ahead?" then as an after though, "Stop mumbling to your self, your doing fine. You should have seem me when I was your age, Ask Trace! Come on Luke keep up."
Jurgen Tuesday September 3rd, 2002 8:20:12 PM
Jurgen looks at Ilsidur, wondering how that dwarf knew so much... Still, he felt strongly that the undead were not mere husks. They... pleaded with Jurgen to save them. To stop their pain and suffering. No, Ilsidur was wise. But he was wrong here, he had to be.
He keeps at the front of the group, staying within yelling distance. He wants to see them first, but not be seen.

Sir Thomas (59hp) Tuesday September 3rd, 2002 9:52:23 PM
In response to Jurgens thoughtless words Thomas calmly replies. "You know Jurgen, I'm not going to argue over who was right or wrong eariler today because it is now obvious that you were fighting for the right cause. But I will say this, no one else was fighting for that cause. And I won't fight for egos nor for campsites.
"You will never here me claim that I know it all nor that I am always right. You have already made your point, and I have succumbed to your wisdom in the situation.
"Also, in answer to your statement, yes, I believe this is a cause to fight for if necessary, yes an acquaintance of mine is involved, and yes you identified the cause earlier but you forgot to let the rest of us in on the point. Again, I will not fight for egos." Thomas pauses for effect, "Justice is not found in proving you are strong nor in being right, it is only found in being strong enough to know when and how to overcome an obstacle. Remember, fighting is not always the best solution, only the last one.
"Finally, I want you to understand that I solute your wisdom earlier today; your goal was very noble. Hopefully we will all learn from the experience and avoid similar conclusions in future events. You are on the right track friend."
Thomas turns his attention to a sick townsperson and quickly cures them of their disease. He then mounts Pryte and reaches a hand down to Ilsidur, "may I help you up friend? Shiraz will not be able to ride, no offense intended toward him, but you are more than welcome."
He looks around and sees that Trace and Sly have already gone. "Let's get going. We'll be late if we don't, and as gentlemen, I don't think it falls within our honor code to be late." he smiles at a rarely told joke, but that disspates quickly.
He spurs Pryte gently and the horse breaks into a dead sprint trying to catch the others.
Shiraz ( ac 22 Hps 66) 2d8(3+4)+3=10 Tuesday September 3rd, 2002 10:03:38 PM
[OOC: Sorry I didnt realize we were playing through the weekend. I was working and didnt check the board.]
Shiraz nods at Jurgen , "Yes I could use your fly spell as I cannot mount a horse." When the young mage cast the spell Shiraz will fly up until he is about 20 feet in the air," BY IMODS HAMMER" the taur roars, "this would be fun under other circumstances, but now we must be off." The taur drinks the healing potion that Sly offers as he soars up catching up to the others.
Fixing the Mistake
The Hunt (DM Cayzle) Wednesday September 4th, 2002 6:09:54 PM
The Southern Lights race back to the clearing, leaving Altemia and Uteva to help care for the wounded.
[Greg, did Ilsidur cast the Fly spell, and on whom?]
At the site of the Arch, there is no one to be found. All camps are cold.
What do you do?
Sir Thomas (59hp) d20=1 Wednesday September 4th, 2002 10:36:13 PM
"Trace . . . Sly . . . can either of you discern the direction of the group? I only ask because I know you are better trackers than I am."
Thomas rides Pryte around the grassy parts looking for clues as to which direction the group might have gone. (Rolled 1 + 2 WIS = 3 Spot check.)
[OOC: As a tracker, I make about as much difference as a fart would make in a tornado. Good luck to you others.]
"I can't tell where they went."
Trace and Radiant d20+6=20 d20+9=13 d20+16=21 Thursday September 5th, 2002 1:47:06 AM
(wilderness lore 20)Trace laughs at Sir Thomas's comment, "Ha, dont worry old friend, this is why you have me around. Why I can see the way they went are clear as a road laid out for us. They have gone this way." Trace begins to move at half speed so as to not loose the track all the while keeping an eye out for them. (spot 13) Trace then dismounts and gives the reins over to Sly and moves ahead of the group quite a ways (50 yards) moving silently (move silently 21)
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+6=17 Thursday September 5th, 2002 6:17:08 AM
Flat-top slides off the saddle and takes the reins and follows Trace, "He's right! They went that way." Pointing the same way that trace is now going.
[OOC:Gregg has not posted for about three days now.]
Shiraz Thursday September 5th, 2002 3:13:21 PM
Shiraz comes into the clearing and stays out of the way of his friends," if you can find them I can hit them, but other than that I am useless here," the taur says with chagrin. Shiraz pulls his swords from their sheaths and waits to be lead to the killers.
Ilsidur (68 hp) Thursday September 5th, 2002 6:31:16 PM
Ilsidur indeed realizes that the minotaur would need an elephant as a mount, and casts the fly spell on the bull-headed giant. [OOC: It will last for 60 minutes; go get 'em!]
He accepts Sir Thomas' offered hand and scrambles up on the back of the paladin's horse, muttering, "I hate horses, I hate horses, I hate..." He holds on to the paladin's back for dear life, just knowing he is going to fall off sooner or later.
When they get to the cold campsite, he shouts up at Shiraz and Jurgen, "Trace is going to try to follow the tracks; can you two fly on ahead in the direction that they were travelling, and see if you can spot them? Try not to be seen, if you can!" [OOC: Cayzle, were they originally following any specific road or trail, or were they just heading out across country?]
Hot on the trail (DM Cayzle) Thursday September 5th, 2002 7:17:11 PM
The scoundrels came to the clearing by the track from Heranmar. But the trackers in the party see that there are at least three sets of tracks leading out of the clearing -- two people going north cross country, two going south cross country, and two following the trail west.
Ilsidur Thursday September 5th, 2002 11:37:34 PM
Ilsidur asks Trace to try to figure out how long ago the tracks were made, and asks if Shiraz or Jurgen can see anything from on high.
Sly Foxx and Luke Friday September 6th, 2002 8:53:27 AM
"They split off in three direction, They really have some thing to hide. I'll try to have Luke sniff out the zombies and I hope that will lead us to the leader of the group." Sly squats and talk to Luke, "Tell me where did the zombies go? Whitch direction did they go,Boy?"
Trace and Radiant d20+6=16 d20+9=17 d20+16=20 Friday September 6th, 2002 1:05:26 PM
Trace stays on the trail and takes the freshest trail(track 16) while he is moving along at half speed he keeps his eyes open for the hunted. (spot 17) While he moves along he tries to keep moving along quite as possible. (move silently 20). Trace draws his two swords as he moves along trying to be prepared.
Shiraz d20=6 Friday September 6th, 2002 2:55:16 PM
Shiraz nods at Ilsidur and flies up looking to see any of the group that raided the city. He doesnt make out much but the trees and his fellow travelers.
Sir Thomas Saturday September 7th, 2002 12:32:53 AM
Having no better option, Thomas and Pryte-Honos follow Trace at a short distance behind.
Tracking (DM Cayzle) d2=2 (roll for direction, S or W) Monday September 9th, 2002 9:09:35 AM
Luke barks at all three trails. He is very excited.
The fliers can't see much -- the tree cover is too dense.
Trace deems the south and west trails as most recently made, by a bit. He leads the party south (rolled randomly). The trail goes due south, straight. It passes through brambles, not around them; over logs, not next to them. Trackers, please roll a Wilderness Lore check (DC12) -- that includes Luke.
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+6=22 d20+5=21 Monday September 9th, 2002 9:42:09 AM
Sly has to hold Luke back every once in a while because Sly had a hard time going over those logs. And some times Sly had to carry Luke so those brambles would not rip the dog to pieces (thanks goodness for the magic armor that Sly has On) Luke was so excited he was just doing what comes naturally, following that scent (Blindly)
OOC: Sly roll 22 and Luke roll 21
Trace and Radiant d20+6=26 d20+16=25 d20+9=25 Monday September 9th, 2002 2:44:58 PM
(he he he...look at them rolls)
Trace easily follows the trail leading south staying ahead of the group (track nat 20=26). While he moves through the brush he does his best to move without noise to give them away. (move silently 25) While he makes his way he looks for the ones they are following and traps if any have been left for them.
More Tracking (DM Cayzle) Monday September 9th, 2002 2:57:53 PM
[OOC: Posting a second time today because I've been slow lately. Sorry.]
Luke barks and points to bits of rotting flesh clinging to the brambles. Trace realizes that you are following two zombies. Since Trace was so alert (good rolls!), it has been only ten minutes since you began following this trail.
[OOC: Ceil and Ted, feel free to post again today if you like.]
Shiraz Monday September 9th, 2002 8:29:29 PM
Shiraz flies lower to the ground so as to keep his friends in sight, easily able to carry another person if neccessary Shiraz helps any who need it over the logs and brambles.
Sly Foxx and Luke Monday September 9th, 2002 9:06:05 PM
Sly throws a pebble at trace and tells him in sign language, 'two zombies that way' pointing down the southern trail. 'Must be pock face, but none of his friends.' Then Sly and Luke will resume the chase.
Sir Thomas (59hp) Monday September 9th, 2002 11:41:07 PM
Assuming Trace shares with the group that they are following zombies, Thomas suggests going back and following a different trail. Hopefully the one that leads to the mage.
"Nice job Trace. As expected, your superior skill and knowledge has helped us again. I salute you."
Trace and Radiant d20+6=16 d20+16=24 d20+9=16 Tuesday September 10th, 2002 2:16:31 AM
Trace motions for all to follow and moves quickly back to the other trail that was the freshest. He begins to follow the new trail and and continue his silent movement while keeping his keen elven eyes peeled for the hunted.
Jurgen (DM Cayzle) Tuesday September 10th, 2002 6:26:31 AM
[OOC: Due to a family emergency, Jeff is taking a break from posting. Can I get a volunteer for his PC, Jurgen? In the meantime, I'll post for him today.]
Jurgen wants to go with Sly to help the people who used to be undead, by ending the mockery of life that is their plodding zombie existence. (sorry, I don't have Jeff's flair for philosophy!)
[OOC: Do Sly and Jurgen split off from the group? to hunt undead?]
Dead Trails (DM Cayzle) Tuesday September 10th, 2002 6:34:08 AM
Trace's expertise quickly reveals more info -- now that he knows what to look for, he sees more zombie-signs on the second fresh trail (north). Bits of rotten flesh, mindless straight-line path, etc. The ranger deduces that the freshest trails are the ones the zombies made, because the zombies are so slow.
North and South trails -- zombies. East trail -- people.
So what next? Tracking down zombies? Chasing the living? The scoundrels have, Trace figures, a two or three hour head start on you right now.
Sly Foxx and Luke Tuesday September 10th, 2002 12:18:51 PM
Sly has a handful with Luke, the dog really want to go south. But Sly wonders as to why Trace gallop off to another trail. "Slow down Luke, let's wait until Trace come back and don't eat that rotten flesh, you'll get sick."
Sly will feed Luke and wait for Trace to report.
Trace and Radiant d20+6=24 d20+16=32 d20+9=10 Tuesday September 10th, 2002 3:17:26 PM
Trace moves back to the group and motions to the last trail to follow. "Allthough they have a couple of hours lead on us I think we can catch them due to them lugging all the spoils from their looting. I say we give it a couple of days before we give up. We really dont have anything else to do as of now." Trace pickes up his pace trying to move a bit quicker while he follows the trail that has been left. Hopefully everyone is following.(track 24) Moving quickly but quietly he keeps his eyes open and trained to look for the hunted. (move silently 32 spot 10)
Sir Thomas (59 hp) Tuesday September 10th, 2002 9:10:24 PM
Thomas follows Trace, but without the knack for keeping quiet. He and Pryte simply weren't trained for sneaking around in the woods. "Sorry Trace, but I'm afraid I'm going to give you away. Anyway, they have such a large head start on us, wouldn't it be more beneficial to just get going? At least for a while . . . until we think we are getting close."
Shiraz Tuesday September 10th, 2002 9:32:40 PM
Shiraz swoops down flying low so as to be heard,"Lead on Trace I will follow but I too dont move slowly."
Ilsidur (68 hp) Thursday September 12th, 2002 12:42:35 AM
Ilsidur continues to hold onto Sir Thomas' back, and sneak quick glances down. The fact that he hasn't fallen off yet is a continued mystery to him.
"Trace, how many tracks can you detect in this set of living people? Weren't there 4 living characters in the party we are following?"
A Living Lead (DM Cayzle) Thursday September 12th, 2002 10:10:17 AM
Trace reports tracks of 2 bipeds.
The Chosen follow.
Sly and Jurgen reluctantly go along with the rest, abandoning the zombie trails.
The group makes speed, trying to follow and still gain ground.
Sly Foxx and Luke Thursday September 12th, 2002 7:57:09 PM
As soon as Trace tells them which trail to go, Sly and Luke heads down that trail along with the others, telling Trace "As long as I have known you, Big Brother. You have never steered me wrong. I'm with you." Follows behind Trace's horse.
Ilsidur (68 hp) Thursday September 12th, 2002 9:33:46 PM
Ilsidur calls up to Trace, "Trace, what can you tell by the tracks? Are they running, walking, or what? Are they carrying heavy loads? It bothers me that we are only following 2 tracks, when we know that there should be three or four. Maybe some of them are flying, like some of us?"
Then he calls up to Jurgen and Shiraz, "One or more of them may be flying, since we can't see all their tracks! Keep your eyes open in the air as well!"
Sir Thomas (59 hp) Thursday September 12th, 2002 9:57:11 PM
Thomas adds his two cents while working to keep himself behind Trace. "There should be three sets on the living trail. There was the mage and the human and the elf and the dwarf. That's four, but Luke killed the dwarf, so we're down to three. It's a distinct possibility too that the evil one . . . the mage in black is being carried by some of the zombies. However, right or wrong, we can't second guess ourselves or we won't bring ANY of these men to justice. I think we are doing right to follow this path, so in case Ilsidur has identified this correctly, let's all keep our heads up along with our guard."
Pryte is anxious, and Thomas works to calm his friend down. He speaks soothing words, but allows his tone to remain business-like. "We'll catch this plague my friend. It will be soon enough."
Jeff Thursday September 12th, 2002 10:34:36 PM I'm Sorry Everyone,
I'm going to be gone from the Southern Lights for a while. My mom had been sick for a few days and took a turn for the worst. She didn't make it.
I think that I'm ok, but I want to take a break from life for some time. I don't know how long, but until I can figure some things out, I'm going to leave my current projects.
I'm really sorry for this.

Splitting Up (DM Cayzle) Friday September 13th, 2002 7:39:44 AM
OOC: Jeff, I'm sure all our thoughts are with you and your family. Jurgen will be here waiting if and when you decide to return. Take care!
===================
Jurgen stops short and declares, "I can't let those people stay undead! I'll seek out the zombies and save the people they were. Go after the others without me!"
He flies off to take care of the zombies.
Trace looks again at the tracks. He is sure that there are just two sets of bipedal tracks. They are not deep -- the two people are not very laden down with heavy loads.
Please make another track check, you all.
Sly Foxx and Luke- d20+6=10 Friday September 13th, 2002 12:50:45 PM
Sly is trying to tell Jurden to stay with the party, But sly knows that this is the time that Jurden has to do this all by himself. So Sly will tell Jurden, "Bye Kid, do what you have to do and may the Gods go with you." Sly and Luke start to follow Trace, but tell Jurden (with a half turn) "See you soon, Friend!" Then its back to duty for Sly and Luke (silently).
Trace and Radiant d20+6=20 d20+16=27 d20+9=19 Friday September 13th, 2002 1:05:15 PM
(ooc: sorry for your loss Jeff. I will say a prayer for you and hope that you return soon.)
Moving quicker now Trace continues to stay on the trail(track 20) while moving silently(move silently 27) and keeping his eyes open.(spot 19) Trace is begining to worry that this might be a wild goose chase. He worries do not slow him and dosnt want to tell the others just yet. He decides to keep moving on and determin if the trail is getting fresher as if to say that they are gaining ground.
Shiraz d20=5 d20=7 Friday September 13th, 2002 2:23:07 PM

Shiraz looks down at Ilsidur, "I dont see anything from up here, just trees and grass."
Eyes in the woods (DM Cayzle) d20+7=25 Saturday September 14th, 2002 7:48:45 AM
As Ilsidur, Trace, Sir Thomas, Sly, and Shiraz follow the trail of the scoundrels, they feel the eyes of wild animals on them. Luke's fur bristles, and Radiant cries out.
Please roll spot checks vs. DC 25 to see the creatures of the wild.
Ilsidur d20+4=15 Saturday September 14th, 2002 11:27:33 AM
Riding along on the back of Sir Thomas' horse, Ilsidur is concentrating on not falling off and breaking something, and fails to notice anything hiding in the woods around the party.
Sir Thomas d20=12 Saturday September 14th, 2002 1:10:45 PM
Rolled 12 + 2 Wis = 14 spot
Pryte follows Trace, toting Thomas and Ilsidur as he goes. Thomas tries to stay attentive, but his concentration tends to wonder to how he and his friends will deal with this group once they are caught. He tries to think of ways to bring the men back to Heranmarr . . .
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+6=23 d20+5=24 Saturday September 14th, 2002 4:30:00 PM
Sly spot is 23, Luke has a 24 (not fair the dog get better roles than the master)
Sly follows behind Trace's horse. Following Luke really. Luke has his back fur all up along his spine, ready for a fight but sniff the trail and move with the group. "I know Luke! I can almost feel them too, We'll get them soon enough."
Trace and Radiant d20+6=16 d20+16=32 d20+9=16 Saturday September 14th, 2002 7:25:48 PM
Trace continues tracking as he hears Radiant screach out loud.(track 16) Trace looks around for a breif second but notices nothing and continues to move on. (move silently 32)(spot 16)
Shiraz d20=6 Sunday September 15th, 2002 4:32:29 PM
"Are we getting close Sly? I can see Luke's hair starting to bristle." Shiraz says as he flies forward over the party.
Surprised? (DM Cayzle) Monday September 16th, 2002 11:52:42 AM
Well, so far as the Party knows, there were wild animals about, but no one caught a glimpse. So the group continues on the trail.
At last, the encounter! Please all roll spot checks to sight the enemy! They must have been alerted, because they are expecting you. Please roll a spot check vs. DC 19 to detect the enemy before the attack (if you fail you are surprised).
Shiraz d20=10 Monday September 16th, 2002 1:23:34 PM
Shiraz blunders ahead while flying not seeing anyone or anything.
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+6=22 d20+5=21 Monday September 16th, 2002 1:39:42 PM
"That because they are right ahead of us, see Shirag" Sly point to where they are. "Look like they are waiting for us too. The wild life must have alerted then." Luke by now is growling and pulling on the rope wanting to get to them.
"Wait a minute, Luke I have an idea, just hold on for the word from me." Sly whispers to the dog. Sly will take the Ice Storm Rod and aim it at them, saying the magic words "North Wind" and giving them a very cold blast. "That should equalize the fight a bit!" Whispers Sly.
OOC:The Magic Rod (has 50 charges and does 10 hp damages) was on top of his back pack, this is what he had in mind when he first met them.
Ilsidur (68 hp) d20+4=23 d20=19 Monday September 16th, 2002 6:30:37 PM
By some miraculous fluke, Ilsidur happens to be looking in the general direction of whatever is waiting for them alongside the trail. [OOC: Made the spot with a roll of 23.] He sees Sly pull a wand out of his pack, and blast it into the bushes where the creatures(?) are hiding. "Boy, if they weren't thinking of attacking us before, they certainly will be attacking now," he thinks to himself.
Ilsidur slides off the back of the horse, and readies his waraxe and shield. [OOC: The second roll of 19 is for Ilsidur to safely slide off the back of the horse, and land on his feet. Cayzle, if the roll wasn't high enough, please let me know.]
Sir Thomas d20=14 d20=20 Monday September 16th, 2002 11:14:35 PM
Rolled Spot 14 + 2 WIS = 16 . . . almost.
Thomas does not see the hunted waiting in their ambush. He is alerted by Sly's warning and ilsidur sliding off of the back of pryte. Thomas draws his sword and puts his shield up to possibly deflect anything that may come there way. Pryte dances off of the trail a bit while the initial flails of battle go off.
When everything settles down slightly, Thomas calls to the other group, "we have news from Heranmarr. We have good cause to suspect you attacked and looted that town. That gives us reason to take you, willing or not, back to the town. Please come willingly before this gets out of hand."
(Rolled diplomacy natural 20 + 10 = 30)
Trace(59) and Radiant (12) d20+9=22 Tuesday September 17th, 2002 1:37:46 AM
Trace sees the tracks headed ahead but then catches the sight of the group watching from the brush. Trace mumbles something as he pulls his longsword and then points to the group. A badger appears next to the group and Trace commands it to attack. (badger stays 6 rounds) After the badger appears Trace draws his short sword and sizes up the situation. "Oh come on Sir Thomas, I think we are past diplomacy at this point."
Shiraz d20=16 Tuesday September 17th, 2002 5:51:43 PM
Shiraz looks again in the direction he is pointed," I still dont see anything but ok I am ready." Shiraz flies up just a bit and readies to attack the first bad guy that attacks.
Sir Thomas Wednesday September 18th, 2002 10:23:26 AM

Sly, Ilsidur, and Trace see the black-robed cleric and the swordsman hiding together in an ambush up ahead, about 30 feet from you.
Sly uses his Wand of Ice Storm, and heavy hail crashes down on the duo, inflicting 21 hp damage (no save).
Ilsidur dismounts and draws a weapon.
Trace summons a badger to attack. The animal lunges at the cleric, but it is visibly shaken at the sick stench given off by the cleric of disease. Still, the badger hits the cleric twice, with a claw and a bite, for 2 hp damage.
Shiraz and Thomas are both surprised.
The black robe ignores the badger and strides forth to engage Trace. Ted, roll an Attack of Opportunity for the Badger against the cleric. As the cleric comes close, Trace looks at his diseased face with horror -- make a Will save vs. DC 15 or become Shaken. (A shaken character suffers a -2 morale penalty on attack rolls, checks, and saving throws.) The cleric reaches out to touch Trace with a glowing hand and touches him. Make a Will save vs. DC 15 or Trace is cursed (a cursed character has a 50% chance to act normally; otherwise, he takes no action -- roll each round).
The swordsman gracefully advances through the trees and flanks Trace. He attacks the ranger, hitting him for 8 points of damage.
Then, springing from the trees, a giant cat leaps to attack Sir Thomas. The paladin is hit with a bite AND two claws, for a total of 11 hit points of damage. The cat tries to trip Sir Thomas, but fails.

Thomas, still astride Pryte-Honos (OOC:that rules out the trip . . . maybe?), feels his shoulder and leg tear as the cats claws dig deeply into them. "Stupid . . . !" Thomas exclaims in pain and in reprimand of himself. He doesn't hesitate long before returning an attack before the cat can set up a solid defense or use its agility to move. He swings down in a sort of defensive strike. (Rolled natural 20 + 12 = 32 to hit, then a 2 + 12 = 14 to see if crit . . . probably not. Rolled 1 + 4 = 5 dmg)
Pryte they raises up and tries to deliver a double hoof strike while twisting to put the cat on Thomas sword side. (Rolled - OOC:out of sequence, sorry I forgot about the crit hit roll for Thomas - 2 + 6 = 8 and 4 + 6 = 10 to hit; Rolled 1 + 4 = 5 and 4 + 4 = 8 to dmg)
When Pryte lands Thomas makes a calculated strike at the cat in response to its defensive maneuvering to dodge Pryte's efforts. (Rolled 8 + 7 = 15 to hit; rolled 4 + 4 = 8 dmg)

Sly is suprize at the power of the wand, "WOW! I think I'll ask Ilsidur about this." Sly lets Luke go and Sly will take his armor off (Armor off) droping his armor and the wand. He'll will use his magic to weaken the black hooded one. While Luke takes off going for the Cat.

Trace is starteled by the cleric moving right at him, (missed dc with 13) As the cleric touches him he dosent feeling anything (made with 16). Trace then begins swinging his swords in defense (hitting with 19 and 25 missing with 7 with total dmg of 17). The badger attacks with claws and teeth (hits with 19 and miss with 7 doning 2 hps dmg.) Radiant swoops down to defend Trace(hits with 25 doing 1 hp dmg). Trace screams at them in anger, "You will pay for what you have done!"
((ooc: my next round I take a -2 on rolls?))
DM Cayzle Thursday September 19th, 2002 12:10:10 PM
Folks, I've posted the map here:
I need more info from Wade and Ceil. Wade, tell me where Shiraz goes, and make rolls to attack. The cheetah is AC 15, or AC 17 if you are good. The swordsman is AC 21, or 23 if you are good, and the priest is AC 15, or 17 if you are good.
Ceil, what is Sly doing? casting a spell? on who?
Trace still has his -2 penalty to fight the cleric. Remember, all who come within five feet of the priest must make a Will save vs. DC 15 or become Shaken. (A shaken character suffers a -2 morale penalty on attack rolls, checks, and saving throws.) The effect lasts whenever you are within 5 feet of the priest.
Shiraz AC 22 Hps 66 d20+14=18 d20+9=29 d20+9=27 d20+12=16 d10+8=10 d10+8=9 d10+8=12 d10+5=10 Thursday September 19th, 2002 1:28:29 PM
Shiraz shakes of his surprise and steps up to the back of the human swordsman taking up a flanking move, striking 3 times hitting AC 18,29<crit>, and 18. Shiraz hits the human for 41 total points of damage. " Take that you monstrous human and challenge me for a change," the huge taur roars.
[Note to Wade -- Remember that if you move and attack, you only get one attack per round, and that's it. You only get multiple attacks if you stand still the whole round (you can take a five-foot step and that's it). This round Shiraz moved to flank and took a single swing. That swing was at +7 (base) +6 (str) +1 (magic weapon) +1 (weapon focus feat) and +2 (flank) for a total modifier of +17. You rolled a 4, so 4+17 = 21. That's not good enough to hit this guy, who is AC 23 to you because you are good. You missed this round. If he stands still, you can attack three times next round -- twice with your primary weapon and once with your secondary weapon. All attacks are at -2 for attacking with two weapons. The second attack with the primary hand is at -5 because it will be your second attack with that hand in one round. I hope this is clear! -- DM Cayzle]
Sly Foxx and Luke d4=3 d4=4 d20+3=14 d6+3=6 Thursday September 19th, 2002 7:16:37 PM
Sly sends his Magic Missiles (2) at the black Hooded smelly one for (7 hp), the he whispers 'Armor On' and his armor is on him again. Now prepares to fight hand to hand.
Luke is in the heat of battle any repeats the attack and tries to get the best of the cat. (Attack ac14, damage (I hope) is 6hp.
Sir Thomas 48 hp Thursday September 19th, 2002 10:53:58 PM
OOC: so I guess since they haven't taken their turn that we don't get to take ours just yet. If I'm wrong, THomas takes two attacks on the cheetah +12 and + 7 to hit/ and + 4 dmg and pryte strikes with both hooves. +6 to hit/ +4 dmg. If the Cheetah dies before all of these are used I'll move to attack the mage.

Shiraz Friday September 20th, 2002 12:45:02 PM
OOC: Cayzle we just had this discussion on my pluses to hit and we agreed on the +12,+7,+12 for my melee attack. Also on the map I assumed that they were 5 foot squares, if so Shiraz has reach and can move one five foot step and and still get all of his attack bonuses, I did however misread the AC on the human male I was attacking and for that I am sorry. Wade
Cayzle: No problem. I ruled that to flank you had to move 10 feet, directly opposite the guy. I rule that a reach attack doesn't let you flank unless you are adjacent to the victim. Also, you were flying, right, so I figured you had to descend, too. That's why it's more than the five foot step.
Yes, we did agree on the +12/+7/+12, but those numbers change depending on conditions. If you are making just one attack, you don't suffer the -2 penalty for attacking with two hands. Flanking gives an extra +2. Also, did we figure those numbers BEFORE you got your magic weapons? I forget.

The giant minotaur flies to the ground and flanks the swordsman, but misses.
Sly casts a magic missile and inflicts 7 hp damage to the cleric.
Luke bites the cheetah for 7 hp.
Sir Thomas, mounted on Prytte (DM Cayzle: Sorry, I forgot about that!) strikes out and hits the great cat for 5 hp. The feline dodges hooves and another swing.
Ilsidur casts magic weapon on his trusty ax.
The badger, Radiant, and Trace, shaken but not cursed, all hit the cleric, doing 20 hp damage! (Yes, Trace is shaken, and please roll the same Will save for Radiant and the Badger.)
Then the enemy responds.
The swordsman and the cleric are flanking Trace. The cleric, desperate, lashes out at Trace with a mace. Calling on the power of his dark god, he smites Trace and connects, doing 18 points of damage. Then he attacks a second time that round, and criticals! That's another 21 hp damage. The black-robe calls out, "Attack this one!"
The swordsman attacks Trace as well, hitting him twice with well placed blows for a total of 14 hp. Then the swordsman takes a five foot step, hoping to avoid being between Trace and the Minotaur. The swordsman yells, "Greegan! Your turn! Take him down!"
The cheetah takes a five foot step towards Trace and lashes out. He bites Trace for 6 more points of damage -- just enough!
Trace has taken a total of 59 hp damage this round! He now has exactly 0 hp! That means Trace is disabled ...
A character with 0 hit points, or one who has negative hit points but has stabilized and then improved, is disabled. He is conscious and able to act but horribly wounded. He can take only a partial action each round, and if he performs any strenuous action, he takes 1 point of damage after the completing the act. Strenuous actions include running, attacking, casting a spell, or using any ability that requires physical exertion or mental concentration. Unless the strenuous action increased the character's hit points, he is now dying.
The cleric in black -- who looks none too healthy himself -- calls out: "BACK OFF! TRUCE! OR YOUR FRIEND DIES!"
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+3=23 d6+3=8 Friday September 20th, 2002 4:38:04 PM
Sly want to run to Trace's side, but knows that will not do trace any good. Thinking fast Sly will not put his armor on, he will cast instead a Charm Person (instant) as he advances with in 25' of the Cleric. In a soft but steady voice "I don't know what it is about you Sir. But I want to try to HEAL you. I know what is eating away at you, It's the Black Pock Plague and it is not too late to get a cure. Now let my friend go and I'll give you the cure." Now Sly stand there (about 12 feet away from the Cleric in just a shirt, tights and boots (Sly is unarmed and AC 11).
Luke is till attacking the Cheetah doing his best to kill that enemy.
OOC:Luke attacks at 23 and damages at 8hp (NO Critical for the dog.)
Ilsidur 3d8(4+3+5)+5=17 d20+8=17 d20+8=28 Friday September 20th, 2002 6:21:08 PM
Ilsidur moves 10' south, and 10' east, to avoid an attack of opportunity from the cheetah. [OOC: I am presuming that north is to the top of the map, and that each square is 5'.] He reaches out and touches Trace, casting a cure serious wounds spell on the ranger. [OOC: If the spell works, Trace gets 17 hp back.]
Ilsidur shouts, "Avenge the people of Heranmar! No quarter!" He looks up at the swordsman, smiles and says, "Well, you piece of beetle dung, what have you got for me?"
[OOC: Cayzle, Ilsidur casts the spell on the defensive, so that the swordsman does not get an attack of opportunity against him because of spell-casting. The roll is vs DC 15 + spell level; in this case 3rd level, so DC 18. Ilsidur missed the roll with a 17, so invoked his luck domain ability and rerolled, getting a natural 20 + 8, for a 28, easily beating the check. He used his 3rd level spell, negative energy protection, to convert to the heal spell. OK?]

Seeing Ilsidur help Trace, Thomas does not stop trying to bring the group into submission. He stikes at the cat trying to kill it before it can attack Trace again. (Rolled 9 + 12 = 21 to hit; rolled 4 + 4 = 8 dmg)
Seeing the cat reel from Thomas' sword strike, Pryte delivers two quick hoof strikes to the cat. (Rolled 18 + 6 = 24 and 17 + 6 = 23 to hit; rolled 3 + 4 = 7 and 5 + 4 = 9)
Thomas sees yet another opportunity, Thomas' next effort is true to the mark. (Rolled 15 + 7 = 22 to hit; rolled 4 + 4 = 8 dmg)
(OOC: TOTAL DMG to cat = 32 hp at this point. I would like to use the Power Attack feat and subtract my to hit rolls to the necessary 17 AC and add the numbers to the attack to a max of 12. SO, Thomas first attack gives 4, his second attack gives 5. This deals an additional 9 points of damage to the cat, raising the total to 41!)
"Get behind me Trace! I have something special for the dark soul."
[OOC: If the cat dies before Thomas last attack, I'd like to move to 5 feet from the mage if that's possible.]

Shiraz takes another 5 foot step keeping the swordsman between Trace and himself and lets go with a flurry of swordstrikes hitting AC 23,27 and 26 for 10,12,11 points of damage. "Now face me filth, and let the rage of a taur supplant that of the villagers you slaughtered" Shiraz roars.
DM Cayzle Monday September 23rd, 2002 7:16:30 AM
Clay, you have to declare your use of the Power Attack (and adjust your attack bonus) BEFORE you roll your dice. Also you have to take the same penalty on all rolls.
Wade, if you look at the map http://www.geocities.com/cayzle/southern/newheroes2.gif Shiraz can take a five foot step east (right) or northeast, but in neither case will he be flanking. Sorry. You still hit twice for 23, though, so be happy!

Trace spits and spews blood after being assulted from all directions. He regains a bit of strength from Ilsdur as he slowly back away from the action. He drops his swords and drinks down a cure light wounds potion (gains 7 hp's) Still coughing bloods a bit as his wounds heal he calls for Radiant to attack the cleric. Radiant darts down hitting the cleric on his cheek (hit with 26 doing 1hp dmg) The badger continues to attack at his feet (hit with 15 doing 2 hps dmg.)
Surrender, Death, and Flight! (DM Cayzle) d20+13=25 (cleric saves vs Sly's Charm) Monday September 23rd, 2002 7:03:42 PM
Ilsidur heals Trace, bringing him to 18 hp.
Sly casts Charm Person, but the cleric saves.
Luke bites the Cheetah, inflicting 8 hp damage.
Thomas and Pryte fight the Cheetah, inflicting 32 more points!
Shiraz hits swordsman for 32 hp damage.
Trace takes a potion, bringing him to 25 hp, as the badger and Radiant fight the cleric, inflicting 3 hp damage. The cleric goes down.
The cheetah sprints away, and Radiant gets an atack of opportunity on it as it flees. But it sprints very quickly, and even with a critical, Radiant won't be able to drop the cat. By the end of the round it is out of sight in the trees.
The swordsman sees which way the tide has turned, and he sheathes his weapon, yelling, "I surrender!" He keeps his shield up to defend if attacked (Full Defense).
Sly Foxx and Luke Monday September 23rd, 2002 7:36:50 PM
"ArmorOn" Sly speaks the magic words and his armor is on his body again, "I guess I should study more of my mother's magic, it look like I'm a poor wizard with magic. I think I should stick with my sword." Sly will go over to Shi raz first, "Hey! Partner Shiraz, do need any help?"
Sly will approch the Minataur slowly and watch the swordman all th while (with sword in hand).

Sir Thomas Monday September 23rd, 2002 11:20:47 PM

"We will take you back to face those you prayed upon. You will face justice tommorrow. If you cooperate, I will speak for you when it comes time for your punishment to be handed down.
"What is your name? What is the name of your cleric friend? Where is your elven friend? Why did you send the zombies off in different directions? Where they to meet back up with you? Were they carrying anything or harboring anything you took from Heranmar? Where were you going before we caught you?"
Thomas fires questions at the man while his friends bind his hands with rope. He hopes to divulge a lot of information from the man in a short period of time to see if the group should go after the other trails and the elf or zombies.
Trace(25/59) and Radiant(12/12) d20+9=24 Tuesday September 24th, 2002 2:28:58 AM
Trace quickly ties the hands and feet of the cleric and gags and blindfolds him as well. After that is done he checks for signs of life. If the cleric is dead he will simply throw him over the back of Shadow. He then picks up his swords and sheaths them. Trace then looks around for the items that they were carrying(spot 24). He suggest that they hurry while they need to track down the zombies to complete the investigation. "What do yall t think should be our next move? Take them back to town or take them with us to hunt down the zombies?"
Tricks! (DM Cayzle) 3d8(6+3+3)+5=17 Tuesday September 24th, 2002 7:33:21 AM
Regarding running away: see the Players Hand Book, page 122. "If all you do is move (not run) during your turn, the space that you start out in is not considered threatened, and therefore enemies do not get attacks of opportunity when you move from that space." The Cheetah is a special case because it gets a special sprint ability that lets it go 100 feet away on a move. Still, it is a good lesson for you guys if you ever feel the need to back out of combat.
Shiraz and Trace take out rope, either setting down their weapons or sheathing them (you can't bind prisoners when you are holding a weapon, right?) Thomas stands guard and asks questions.
Trace sees that the cleric, though badly wounded, is not dead or even dying.
The swordsman says, "Here's why I'm surrendering -- Look!" He reaches down to his belt, grabs a horn, and blows! A white fog immediately springs up (like an Obscuring Mist spell.)
The cleric stands up again and stands next to the swordsman (five foot step). It's really hard to tell in the mist, but he looks healthier.
Shiraz and Trace, you both can draw weapons and attack. Thomas can gain a full attack. In the fog, you have a 20% miss chance even if you are standing right up next to the target.
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+6=19 d20+8=27 Tuesday September 24th, 2002 10:16:32 AM

But when the swordsmen takes to blowing the horn (that he produce out of his belt), and as the mist rises and so does that darn Cleric. Sly (roles checks for Arcana Knowledge - 19 and Spellcraft - 27) tries to make sense out of the going on. "The Horn! The Horn!" yells Sly.

[OOC Shiraz would not set down weapons until all of his demands were met, and then would have had Sly bind the swordsman. I will roll for a full attack option but leave final consideration to you.]
Shiraz is shocked by the swordmans gall and strikes quickly. Either missing twice and hitting once or not hitting at all.

If they fall down, make sure that they stay down!" [OOC: Cayzle, please let the rest of the group know right away if the dispel works, so that they can post accordingly.]
He looks around for the cheetah, calling out to the others, "Keep an eye out for that stupid cat! It probably ran away to heal itself!"

Pryte takes an opportunity to lash out with his hooves. (ROlled 1 + 6 = 7; Rolled 3 + 4 = 7 hp dmg and Rolled 16 + 6 = 22 to hit; Rolled 4 + 4 = 8 dmg)

Sly recognizes that the horn creates an effect just like an Obscuring Mist spell. He notices the cleric using a wand. The cleric looks healthier -- but still disease ridden.
That reminds me -- the cleric is still repugnant to behold! If you attack him, the ooze, pus, and stench may overwhelm you -- make a Will save vs. DC 15 or become Shaken. (A shaken character suffers a -2 morale penalty on attack rolls, checks, and saving throws.)
Shiraz attacks the swordsman, hitting him for 8 hp damage.
Ilsidur dispels the mist.
Sir Thomas hits the swordsman a sound blow (13 hp). Pryte lashes out with his hooves, but the swordsman dances out of the way.
Trace and Radiant swing, but again the swordsman prooves too agile to be hit.
The swordsman laughs as he dodges blows! "Take this!" he yells at Trace, striking at him and cutting the ranger (8 hp damage).
The cleric casts a spell on the defensive, dodging and weaving as he concentrates on the magic he is trying to bring forth. He just barely manages to get off the spell and avoid offering attacks of opportunity (rolled a 19 -- exactly what he needed). After the spell is done, he begins to rise into the air, leaving the combat! (Ilsidur recognizes this as an Air Walk spell.) Thomas and Trace can make attacks of opportunity on the cleric as he walks through the air and tries to get away.
Remember to make a repugnancy roll if you do attack the cleric (unless you already made one today).
If the cleric survives any attacks of opportunity, he will be about 15 feet overhead as this turn ends.
Shiraz's Fly spell is still going, but it is on its last legs! It could end any moment now!
The swordsman yells, "Towden, you scoundrel! Get me out of here!"
Shiraz AC 22 Hps 66 d20+12=32 d20+12=24 d20+7=18 d20+12=14 d10+8=14 d10+8=14 d10+8=10 Wednesday September 25th, 2002 8:36:56 PM
Shiraz roars in frustration at missing the swordsman and sets himself to attack again. Aiming true Shiraz hits AC 32 <nat 20> and smiles as he deftly inflicts 38 points of damage. The smile fades as he misses his next 2 attacks.

Sir Thomas (48 hp) d20+8=15 (dismount check) d20=14 d20=2 d20=5 d20=2 Thursday September 26th, 2002 1:24:48 PM
[OOC: Clay told me privately that Sir Thomas wants to try to grapple the cleric with Thomas's attack of opportunity BEFORE the cleric gets away. I edited his post and made some rolls for him to finish off the action. -- DM Cayzle]
First Thomas has to quickly dismount off Pryte. To do so he has to roll a Ride check vs. DC 20. Thomas's Ride modifier is +8. But he failed, so he is slower than he wants to be. The time in which he could have grappled is taken up by the dismount, and by the time he reaches the ground, the cleric is already walking up into the air.
[OOC: The remainder of our conversation about how to grapple is now moot, but I'll leave it in place below. HOWEVER, since that was just Sir Thomas's Attack of Opportunity, he now gets a full action for the round, with the cleric about 15 feet in air. -- DM Cayzle]
=========================================
OOC: I need some advice from the DM. Of course I don't want the cleric to get away. If I attack him outright with my sword I probably won't do enough damage to kill him or keep him here. So I think I want to drop my sword and grab him. I also think I want to throw him to the ground. I'm confused by the rules on this though.
[You CAN use your attack of opportunity to grapple the cleric. If you succeed, you will prevent him from moving away.]
It looks to me like I want to start a grapple, so the check would be my 14 roll + 12 melee + 4 STR + 0 size modifier = 30 to hit (-2 shaken?)
[To do this, you have to dive off Pryte and tackle him. Make a ride check to leap off the horse -- DC 20. If you fail, you use up your AoO in dismounting. If you succeed, you dismount as a free action]
[Then you attempt a melee touch attack, which you rolled already, to grab him. He in turn gets an attack on you, and even a single point of damage from him stops your grapple. You get NO concentration check to keep grappling, sorry.]
Then I guess he gets an attack of opportunity and if he does me even one point of damage I don't grab him? Do I get a save to stay focused on my goal to fight through that attack, especially if it is a particularly weak attack?
[See above. If he does you any damage, the grapple fails.]
[If he does not hit you, THEN you can try opposed grapple checks against him. If it succeeds, you do unarmed strike damage. Then you can move into his square, and the two of you are wrestling. He cannot fly away, and if you make a pin check in following rounds you hold him even more securely. If he wins an opposed grapple check, he can break a pin (if you have pinned him) or wriggle free, escaping the grapple and running away.]
Once I have him in my grasp, can I throw him to the ground so that if he wanted to leave he'd have to pass by us again and we'd get attacks of opportunity again?
[If you want to throw him to the ground, make a trip attack. If you want to hold on to him, use the grapple.]
Can I just perform a pin move and allow my friends attacks with + 4? What are his chances of breaking my pin, because I know I'm much stronger than he is. Can I pin him while I"m straddling Pryte?
[After he is grappled or pinned, others can join in, per the PHB rules. But you do have to get off Pryte to do any of this.]
[Feel free to post again when you know what you want to do. Hope this helps! -- Cayzle.]
Rolled 14 for attack.
Rolled 2 + 8 Will = 10 for will save
SO I'm shaken and the penalties start next round or do they apply to this round?
[Shaken starting this round.]
Does Pryte get an attack of opportunity? Does he need to make a save? I rolled both. (Well, it doesn't look like it matters. ROlled 5 + 6 = 11 and 2 + 2 = 4)

[OOC: I am at the public library in Wawa, and can post tonight. Thanks for your post, Cayzle, but I would rather have Ilsidur do something else. OK?]
Ilsidur moves to catch everyone inside the area of effect for a bless spell, and casts the spell. [OOC: You are all +1 to hit, and +1 to save vs. fear effects. Ilsidur especially wants to catch Shiraz in the area of effect, if he can't affect everyone.] He shouts up to Shiraz, "Shiraz, you are strong enough! Grab that pice of worm-bait and bring him down! We can chop him to pieces once he is on the ground! If the fly spell ends, he will hold you up!"
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+9=26 d4+2=6 Thursday September 26th, 2002 8:24:47 PM
Sly was on one knee and was going for the rope. He had pick up his sword, when things started to happen. Sly stick his sword into the ground, and will grab his bow, knoch an arrow and shot for the Cleric. (Hopefully, if the DM will let me.)
"Luke, Fetch the Horn and bring it here!"
OOC:If I can do all this in one round the stats are, bow hits AC 26 and the Damages are 6 HP (if this is a critical my file says times 3. It's too close to call. So I'll leave it up to you, DM Cayzle).
[Ceil, shooting the bow is fine. But you only rolled a 17, so no critical. -- DM Cayzle]
Shiraz AC 22 Hps 66 Blessed d20=15 d20+14=26 Thursday September 26th, 2002 9:14:51 PM
Shiraz nods quickly and flies straight at the cleric attempting to knock the disease ridden cleric to the ground, hitting AC 26 Shiraz slams into the cleric. "I've got him now what?"
[OOC: Sorry, Wade, you seem to be one turn ahead! THIS round you killed the swordsman -- from the turn you posted (early) yesterday. You're ahead because I missed a day waiting for everybody to get their post in. -- Cayzle]
DM Cayzle Friday September 27th, 2002 9:48:52 AM
::currently waiting for Thomas's action, and for Trace's attack of opportunity on the cleric and then his regular action::
Sir Thomas (48hp) d20=11 d4=1 Friday September 27th, 2002 10:39:26 AM
[OOC: Can I not jump at him from the back of Pryte? I was close enough to provoke an attack of opportunity, so is it possible that he was close enough that I could just grab his robe or arm or jump on him and start grappling as we fall to the ground?]
[OOC: Sorry, but getting off a horse is a move-equivalent action unless you make a jast dismount roll. You had to get your feet out of the stirrups, drop the reins, and not fall on your face. That took the time you would have used for the attack of opportunity (since you missed the fast dismount roll). -- DM Cayzle]
VERY frustrated that he unknowingly had to waste an attack to jump off his horse, Thomas does not let bad judgement prevent him from his course of action. While curseing that we would have rather used his sword, Thomas pulls his only dagger from its sheath at his belt. "May Domi help me strike you down and may he judge you for your evil actions!" Thomas hurls his dagger at the rising cleric. It appears to develop into a small bird as it flies toward the evil cleric, but that image is fleeting.
Thomas bends over and retrieves his sword, then climbs onto Pryte's back again and the two become the cleric's shadow. They follow the cleric's every move, following him knowing that what goes up must come down unless the cleric is prepared with something to keep him up there for days or make himself disappear. "Domiites are persistent evil one!" Thomas calls to the cleric's rising image.
[OOC: Well, throwing the dagger, picking up your sword, mounting, and moving are all too much for one round. You can mount, but you'll have to chase him next round -- he's only 15 feet ahead. -- DM Cayzle]
Trace takes a quick swing at the fleeing cleric and strikes a solid blow (hits 26 doing 12 hps dmg). Radiant darts at the cleric but misses just the same. "This is your last day in the wold." Trace draws his short sword and now holds both swords ready for another attack.
The End! (DM Cayzle) Friday September 27th, 2002 2:20:37 PM
As the cleric starts to flee, Sir Thomas dismounts and Trace wings him.
Then Shiraz hacks down the swordsman, leaving no doubt as to his state of being -- stone dead!
Ilsidur blesses the group.
Sly shoots the air-walking cleric with an arrow.
Trace gets ready to attack, but he does not need to -- Thomas hurls a dagger backed by the power of Pure Good, and it brings down the cleric, who it turns out is also dead.
At last! you have defeated the scoundrels!
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+3=16 (Sly's search roll for the wand) d4=4 (Roll to see what Luke fetches) Friday September 27th, 2002 7:58:45 PM
After sending Luke for the Horn, Sly gets to his feet. "Tell me if I'm wrong BUT when we first met these Evil Doers, was there not Four of them?" asking Sir Thomas. All the time looking for that wand the Hooded Cleric was hiding.
OOC: 16 is for Searching rolled d20+3 for int. Right??
[OOC: Sorry Ceil! I forgot about Luke! The dog runs over, grabs the horn from the ground, and goes back to Sly, still carrying the horn in his mouth. By the way, your Search roll is fine. -- DM Cayzle]
Ilsidur (68 hp, magic weapon on waraxe) Friday September 27th, 2002 11:33:57 PM
Ilsidur says, "I suggest the rest of you keep your eyes open for that cat, while I check out these two."
Ilsidur checks to make sure the two are indeed dead, and then begins to strip them down to their underwear. (If they aren't dead, he will bind them after stripping them.) Once the bodies are stripped, he carefully lays out whatever gear was recovered from the two, and casts detect magic on all the stuff. Just to be sure he didn't miss anything, he also uses his detect magic spell to scan the two bodies.
"Sly, you are right. There did used to be 4 of them. One changed into the cheetah and took off, and the dwarf was killed by your dog. I figure we head back to town and keep our eyes open for whatever happened to the dwarf's body. Also, what do we do with these two bodies? We can burn them here, or take them back to the city and have the city deal with them. Either way, do we want to go after the zombies, and recover them for the city? What do you all think?"
Trace(31) and Radiant (12) d8+5=6 Saturday September 28th, 2002 4:04:07 AM
Trace shakes his head, "Man Ilsdur, you sure are makeing sure every stone is turned." Trace then gather his items and straightens himself while he takes another potion of cure light wounds. "Well I think we need to take these bodies back to the city. I think we can throw the two bodies over Shadow my horse and someone ride with Sir Thomas quickly back to the city. Meanwhile the rest of us with move back to the other more clearly marked trails and begin tracking them down. I think we can catch up to them at the most one day and maybe two days to cover both trails. Since they are slow and leave easy marks to follow, I should have no problem tracking them down so that we can recover the items taken."
Sir Thomas Sunday September 29th, 2002 10:43:48 AM
"Thank you for your assistance Domi." Thomas says while holding his holy symbol with his eyes closed in reverence. He then goes and retrieves his dagger.
While waiting for Ilsidur to strip the bodies and perform his detection magic on them, Thomas tends to the wound the cheetah left during the attack. He cleans it and bandages it with strips of cloth from one of his shirts.
Once Ilsidur has performed all of his magic and searched the bodies as much as he would like, Thomas binds the hands and feet of the two dead men. He looks around at his friends, sure that they will think him crazy for tying up two dead men. "We've had some problems with dead enemies coming back to life" Thomas says in a somewhat embarrassed tone. He throws the bodies on the back of Pryte.
"Trace, I think you are right to want to chase the zombies, but I think we should split up as little as possible. I'll take the bodies back myself. You guys should chase the zombies. Be sure to leave a trail that I, a non-tracker, can follow because I will hurry to Heranmar and back. If you don't leave me a sufficient trail I'll never be able to find you. Which way will you go first?"
Shiraz Monday September 30th, 2002 8:58:22 AM
Shiraz carefully wipes the blood from his swords with a rag and looks over the fallen," heh.. I agree with Thomas we should split up as little as possible." The huge taur then helps Thomas load the dead and when Isildur directs helps pck up whatever items he deems.
News of Victory for Heranmar
Loot 'n' Bodies! (DM Cayzle) Wednesday October 2nd, 2002 9:23:54 AM
After making sure that the swordsman and the diseased priest are dead, the group finds the following noteworthy items:
On the Cleric -- a smoth silver wand and a gnarled black wand. A high quality non-magical mace. Magic chain mail.
On the Swordsman -- A magic shield, magic studded leather armor, a magic longsword, the Foghorn that Luke fetched, and a magic Orcish two-headed axe.
Collectively, there are about 20 pounds of jewelry, silver candlesticks, silverware, coins, and gems.
What does the group do with the bodies?
Headed back, at the clearing, you find what can only be Jurgen's handiwork: The zombies are lying, destroyed, next to the Arch within the circle of watchstones. One of them, Trace and Thomas, is Bob the Shopkeeper, who you knew before.
What do you do with these bodies?
Do you want to do anything else before heading back to Heranmar?
[OOC: I apologize for missing the last two days. I'm on vacation in Idaho, and I had planned to post every day, but with packing, the flight, and ten zillion other things, I just couldn't! I'm sorry! -- DM Cayzle]
Sly Foxx and Luke Wednesday October 2nd, 2002 11:35:07 AM
"Good Boy! Luke, here have a snack." Sly feed Luke after he has given the horn to Ilsidur. Help pack the bodies and the ill-gotten treasure of theirs.
But when they came to the clearing and fond the zombies parts. Sly stands and look around, "When I first met you as a group, there was a monastery around here. In the monastery was a chapel and a stair case leading down, where you found the Bell. But there must have been a mausoleum down there where they buried those dead monk. How about we find the stair case again among what left of the building and bury these poor zombies there? At lest they would be in sacred grounds." Sly ask the rest of the group (with moister in his eyes).
Shiraz Wednesday October 2nd, 2002 8:37:54 PM
"I suggest that we take only the heads from the despoilers of the town and burn the bodies, as for those unfortunates," Shiraz turns and bows his head a burial sounds most appropiate."
Sir THomas d20=15 Wednesday October 2nd, 2002 11:31:00 PM
"Sounds like a good plan." Thomas starts searching for the staircase that Sly remembers. (ROlled 15 + 3 WIS Spot = 17)
[OOC: I have already put the obtained items on my CS as group property. I don't know who gets first choice of items this time, nor whether we want to try to return this stuff to the inhabitants at Heranmar, but it's on my CS as group loot.]
Ilsidur Thursday October 3rd, 2002 12:23:39 AM
"Shiraz, I suggest we bring all the bodies back to Heranmar, and let the city deal with them. I agree, that the two despoilers should be burned, but it is really the Heranmarites' choice. Now, has anyone seen the body of the dwarf that Sly's dog killed? I seem to remember that the dwarf was armed with an axe, and I would be interested in finding that axe.[OOC: Cayzle, have we seen the dwarf's body or any other sign? Also, was the dwarf's axe the orc double axe that the swordsman was carrying?]
If the group agrees, Ilslidur helps to rig some travois to drag behind the horses, to carry as many of the bodies as possible.
The Disturbed Earth (DM Cayzle) Thursday October 3rd, 2002 9:30:58 AM
After looking for the entrance to the crypt of the ruined Chapel, the one in which you once found the actual Chaos Bell, you discover that the underparts of the structure have all been collapsed. It would take a team of dwarves and gnomes days to dig it out.
However, the Southern Lights have found something! There are signs of very recent digging at the base of the one standing ruined wall. In a shallow, hasty grave, you find the body of the dwarf Luke killed (the one to whom the double ax belonged). Also buried with him is more loot! A lot more! If you had not had the horses, you just could not have carried it all. There are chests and coins and more. Ilsidur, with his dwarfish eye, guesstimates that there are thousands of gold pieces worth of stuff, in non-magical loot, that is. Probably not more than 10,000 gp. And who knows how much all the magic items are worth!?
The loot looks like goods from a mercantile or trading post. There sure is a lot of it. But with the horses to load stuff on, you'll be okay.
Well, maybe not. You won't be able to take all the loot and all the bodies back to Heranmar. At least not in one trip. You could tax the horses and do it in two trips, or three trips would be no problem.
What's next?
[OOC: Note, my friends, that if you are looking for people or living things, or noting movement, you use your Spot check. If you are looking for inanimate things, concealed objects, or tiny stuff on a complex background, that's a Search check. Just FYI. -- DM Cayzle]
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+5=9 d20+5=17 d20+5=8 d20+5=21 Thursday October 3rd, 2002 11:16:55 AM
"Well, Look Who we have here and his goodies. No wonder they didn't want us any where around here." Sly will look around and Luke is off on his own, scratching and sniffing.
You know there is only one thing that's bothering me. There is too much stuff for one trip. They must have really REALLY done big time Bullying".
Sir Thomas d20=15 Thursday October 3rd, 2002 12:23:55 PM
"I think we should split into two groups. Trace and I, with our horses, should take the first load of these stolen money and goods back to Heranmar. The rest of you should stay here to keep an eye on what is left behind and the bodies. Trace and I will explain to the townspeople that we have caught and were forced to kill the raiders. That way they won't mob us for the bodies that we have. We'll then return with more horses and possibly a few townspeople to come back and claim the rest of the items. That way we will all be around to hand the bodies over to the townspeople so they can do as they see fit. What do you guys think?
"Here's another thought. I know it would take us a long time, but I wonder if the Chaos Bell is in that collapsed structure. It might prove fruitless to spend a week or two digging to see ... but it might not. Let's ponder that thought while we finish this task at hand."
(Rolled 15 for a memory check regarding Thomas recollection of the events just AFTER the ringing of the bell and what happened to the bell at that time.)
[Sorry! Here on vacation there is no way for me to look that up! Peruse the archives, or wait for next week (Tues?) when I will have a chance to do research. -- DM Cayzle]
Trace (41)and Radiant(12) d8+5=10 d20+9=29 Thursday October 3rd, 2002 3:33:58 PM
"I know it sounds bad but we need to ask for a percentage of what we have recovered, I and I mean we have been working to keep this land safe and have, I feel done great deeds. What I am trying to say is, I am not a servant of the people and anytime I can make an earning while doing good then I want to take advantage of it. I am allmost out of the means of living and thus this bounty serves to replinish what I have used up and hopefully gain some ground along with maybe getting some new equipment. I know this may sound bad but I think we at least need to discuss weather we have earned such a reward." Trace readies Shadow to haul what he can back to the city. Trace then drinks down a potion (10 hps gained.) Trace keeps a wary eye about his surroundings for the cat that ran away (spot check 29 Trace sees all).
Shiraz Thursday October 3rd, 2002 8:40:29 PM
Shiraz takes a few minutes and goes to each zombie, then to each former townsmen and composes their bodies, taking the blankets from his pack and wrapping the bodies reverently so as to keep them as undisturbed as possible. "Holy Imod take once again the souls of these people and let them ascend unto you and let the families be at rest that they are with you," the taur says with bowed head and crossed hands. The taur turns and looks at the others and "I will stay or go whatever you decide but decide quickly."
Ilsidur Thursday October 3rd, 2002 10:07:02 PM
"I suggest we take the bodies, the magic items, and the lightest, most valuable items from this pile of loot. We can load ourselves and the horses down with sacks and gear as much as possible, and re-bury the bigger, less valuable items. Then, we all travel as a group back to Heranmar, get more horses, and come back for the rest. I am really worried about the missing cheetah/warrior, and he/it may be going for help. So, I think it VERY important that we stay together. The rest of this stuff is just money, and if it was hidden OK up until now, it probably will stay hidden until we can get back."
"Sly, do you or Sir Thomas have a detect magic available, that you can use on this pile of loot, and the dwarf's body? If anything shows up as magic, we want to be sure to bring it along."
"What do you think?"
Quickly Planning (DM Cayzle) Friday October 4th, 2002 9:14:02 AM
The Southern Lights talk over what to do next.
[OOC: You folks decide and come up with a plan. I'm hearing two: split up or not? Post as much as you need to in order to get a consensus. -- DM Cayzle]
Sly Foxx and Luke Friday October 4th, 2002 11:43:08 AM
"Well, if you ask me, I'm with Ilsidur. We take the bodies back to town and as much of their belonging as posable. Then Sir Thomas, we come back with the towns people (with wagons) so we can end this quest. I'm also with Trace, I feel that my equipment is braking down and need fixing or replacing, we could hold out our helm and the people could drop some alms in then." Sly kicks one of the dead bodies, "I know, I know I'm being very funny, but we should ask for some kind of reward."
Sly plays with Luke, he throws a stick for the dog to fetch. He turn to face Trace, "Gee! I miss my little gypsy girl. I wonder if she remembers me?"
Trace(54) and Radiant(12) d20+9=17 d8+5=13 Friday October 4th, 2002 3:11:10 PM
Ok......carry as much of the most valueable and burry the rest....return to town to get help and then quickly, and I mean quickly come back. When we bury what we leave lets put a large stone over it so that it becomes a chore to retrive it so that if someone does come back to get the riches it will take them some time and hopefully it will take long enough that we catch them on the way back. (spot check 17) Trace then drinks down another clw potion(13 hps gained).
Shiraz Friday October 4th, 2002 8:20:15 PM
Shiraz sighs softly and mutters in tauric. "My friends I will carry the bodies my self if thats what it takes for me to get us going, let us be off and return the dead to Heranmar."
Ilsidur Saturday October 5th, 2002 12:17:57 AM
"So, Sly, do you have a detect magic you can use on this new stuff?"
Sir Thomas Saturday October 5th, 2002 12:24:06 AM
"Together we go then. I don't have a detect magic spell ready."
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+6=16 Saturday October 5th, 2002 2:27:58 PM
"I don't remember if I used it we last time were fighting thembut I'll try. Then we leave? Right?" Sly will try to see if he still has the spell left. (Rolled a 16)
There, Back Again, and Then There Again (DM Cayzle) Sunday October 6th, 2002 10:35:00 AM
The group decides on Ilsidur's plan. Sly finds no more items of magic. The Southern Lights, led by Trace, hide the majority of the loot -- then taking the bodies, the magic items, and the most valuable goods they can carry, they return to Heranmar. The guards set at the gate -- townsfolk in improvised armor -- let them in right away. The party checks in with Altemia and Uteva, drops off bodies, gets a few volunteers with horses, and is back on the road in ten minutes. Then back to the Chapel, gather the rest of the loot, and then back to Heranmar without incident.
This time the town's aelderman is at the gate as well. You have not met him, since he is new in his office -- the old aelderman died in the Year of Ascencion.
As he welcomes the party, he declares, "Enter our town, bringers of change! Tell us what changes you have now wrought! What can you tell us of recent events?"
You are inside the gates now, and the townsfolk are smiling -- a very rare thing in gloomy Heranmar!
Sir Thomas Sunday October 6th, 2002 9:22:09 PM
Thomas bows slightly out of politeness to the aelderman. "We are the Southern Lights. We can tell you that since the end of the War of the Gods (a few days ago?) we have been off in the woods chasing down the raiders of Heranmar. What news have you acquired good sir?
"Can you point us in the direction of Holly and Donk? They are old friends and I'd like to have a friendly chat with them. Also, do you have any more healing needs in town? We have used most of our healing magic I"m sure, but if there is help we can extend, we'd be pleased to do so."
Sly Foxx and Luke Monday October 7th, 2002 5:30:53 AM
Standing behind Sir Thomas, for once in his life listens to the New Aelderman conversation. To Sir Thomas, he tells "How do you do Sir, Sir Thomas I'll help the towns people to sort thing out, then I will be with Altemia and Utevia." Sly is about to leave when he had an after though "Where do you want the bodies?"
"Come Luke. Sit here." And the dog sits besides his master.
Shiraz Monday October 7th, 2002 3:32:11 PM
Shiraz bows slightly at the old mans introduction and awaits as Sir Thomas delivers his story.,
Ilsidur Monday October 7th, 2002 10:01:42 PM
Ilsidur asks, "Yes, please tell us what went on. Where did those people come from? One of them seemed to turn into a cheetah, and then ran off, leaving his friends to die. Do you know where we can find him, or who he was?"
Trace and Radiant Tuesday October 8th, 2002 1:25:56 AM
Trace wiats to see what is instore for the rest of the day. He begins to inspect his equipement for damage while he waits.
The Aelderman (DM Cayzle) Tuesday October 8th, 2002 7:57:02 AM
A crowd of townsfolk have gathered around, and all listen eagerly.
The town leader laughs at Sir Thomas's understated story. "Ha ha! 'chased' the raiders you say? By the evidence of the bodies you brounght back, I would say that your chase was a success! You are modest, Children of Chaos! Come, there must have been battle! The people of this town suffered grievously at the hands of these scoundrels. But since you ask, I will tell you our end of this tale."
"After the godwar ended, the forces of darkness scattered to the winds, and in the nick of time! Such few that were left we handily beat away. But the next day a plague of horrible insects came. And through the plague, untouched by the stinging ones, walked these four scoundrels, now dead (the crowd cheers), and one other, the shape-shifter."
"They struck down our folk, and they looted our stores. Holly rallied us and we killed one. But them Holly fell, and the evil priest raised up corpses to help carry the loot."
"Thank goodness Donk came then and drove them off, but they took great wealth with them. We are glad you hve brought it back to us!"
He eyes the loot the Southern Lights have brought back.
"But tell us of battle! We want to hear how you struck them down!" The crowd roars in its lust to hear the gory details.
"And then we can return what you have recovered to its rightful owners."
Shiraz Tuesday October 8th, 2002 11:28:47 AM
"Good sir we can retell our story in a bit, but of primary importance is burying the dead and returning what belongs to the good people of this town. After that we can retell our story." Shiraz smiles at the man then turns and begins sorting the items brought back into some semblence of order.
Sly foxx and Luke Tuesday October 8th, 2002 2:32:18 PM
"I think Shiraz is right. That a lot of stuff to sort, I'll help you with that job." Sly help Shiriz with the large job. Sly look up and sees trace with the girls, "Hey! Trace! bring Uteva over here and help us sort these things."
Sir Thomas Tuesday October 8th, 2002 3:42:15 PM
Thomas does not like the lust for death that the people of Heranmar now show. He expresses his distaste tactfully ... he hopes, "It matters not how we brought these" Thomas pauses in quick thought and points at the men, "men ... to justice. We would have walked them back to answer to you directly if they had not forced this end. Life is too short and too fragile to be caught up in hate and vengence. Now, as Shiraz says, the important thing is to bury the dead and return the stolen property to those who are the rightful owners." Thomas dismounts Pryte-Honos and helps Shiraz begin to sort things out.
Ilsidur Tuesday October 8th, 2002 8:55:38 PM
Ilsidur agrees with the young paladin. "What is your problem, people? The thieves are dead, and we chopped them up; that is all you we need to discuss. We need to focus on the future, like the pile of wood we plan to burn these piles of otyugh dung on." He points at the dead foes, then moves to gather fuel together to burn the bodies. "If you folks want, after we are done with these scum, we can help you bury the good people of this city that so sadly lost their lives. Meanwhile, while we take care of this task, why don't you sort out these things that you say belong to you. They do all belong to you, don't they?"
Unless someone stops him, he gathers wood together and torches the diseased cleric, the swordsman, and the dwarf.
Pile of Burning Wood; Pile of Loot (DM Cayzle) Wednesday October 9th, 2002 7:20:40 AM
"Yes, you are right," the Aelderman cries. "These scum deservve nothing but the torch!"
He leads others of the crowd in making a bonfire. He tosses on also the body of the half-elf, the scoundrel that was killed in Heranmar and then raised as a zombie and later put down again, by Jurgen before the boy flew off who-knows-where.
Some of the crowd gathers around the bonfire on which the bodies are burning and sing victory songs.
Other people come forward to claim their stolen property, and aided by Thomas and Shiraz, mostly everything gets sorted out. The mere presence of the bulky minotaur seems to discourage any bickering.
A little later, Utevea arrives, helping a still-gravely injured Holly and a few other people. They came to claim the bodies of their loved ones. Holly also seeks to reclaim some items stolen from her, but she cannot find them. She asks gently about the last scoundrel, the shape-shifter. Did he get away? Was he carrying loot? Most of all, does he pose a danger to the town? After listening to answers, Holly is tired and goes to lie down.
Later, after victimized folk make their claims, some treasure remains unclaimed: from the Cleric -- a smooth silver wand and a gnarled black wand; a high quality non-magical mace; magic chain mail. from the Swordsman -- A magic shield, magic studded leather armor, the Foghorn that Luke fetched, and a magic Orcish two-headed axe.
There's also about 500 gp in coin unclaimed.
A magic longsword carried by the swordsman used to belong to Bob the shopkeeper, but he's dead now and no one is left to claim it. And his shop was damaged as well.
The Aelderman steps up. "In order to pay for the damages wrought by these scoundrels, I claim the remainder of these unclaimed stolen goods for the Town of Heranmar. You heroes can each take one item from this pile as a reward well earned. The rest goes to me. That is, on behalf of the town."
Ilsidur Wednesday October 9th, 2002 7:47:15 AM
Ilsidur gathers the group around, and quietly says, "The loot that was owned by the thieves rightfully belongs to us, so I don't agree that the town has any reasonable claim to everything else but one item for each of us. I suggest we give them the 500 gp loot remaining, and they can keep the sword that belonged to Bob. The rest belongs to us by right. However, if the majority of the group wants to allow the town to claim these items, I will relent. Remember, they will also have the loot from the half-elf that they killed. What do you think?"
"Also, do we need to chase down the shape-shifter? In cheetah form, he can definitely travel faster than any of us, except when we are flying. Trace might be able to track him, but it would be very difficult."
Sly Foxx and Luke Wednesday October 9th, 2002 10:28:47 AM
"I'm all for that idean Ilsidur, there is nine item left, and I wanted that magic sword and Luke want to play with that horn. Alright we'll claim all the magic items (even one item for Luke) and give the people the money that's what they want anyway. YES! I like the idea." said Sly with a weird smile on his face.
Trace and Radiant d20+9=23 Wednesday October 9th, 2002 2:32:12 PM
"I am interested in the leather armor but only the 500 gold should go to the town not just Aelderman. It should be used to rebuild the town and provide a decent defense. The rest is our right for defeating the threat. After that I think we should at least make an attempt to track down the shapshifter." Trace stands by with his hand on the hilt of his sword keeping an eye wary of his surroundings. He hates having to be in the city. (spot 23)
Ilsidur Wednesday October 9th, 2002 7:42:18 PM
"Sly and Trace, we will give Bob's sword back to the town to sell and raise money for the repairs, right?"
Shiraz Wednesday October 9th, 2002 8:51:40 PM
The huge taur sadly shakes his head at the discussion of what money should go where and to whom how much. "Gentle man and comrades let us not argue at what should go where but rather what is needed by whom. Surely good alderman the money is more than enough to help this town rebuild, and comrades can we not spare an item or two if they need a bit more? Surely we dont just help because we get paid?"
Ilsidur Wednesday October 9th, 2002 11:10:41 PM
"Well, Shiraz, I would be a little more willing to donate to a town of folk grieving for their lost loved ones, than a mob bloodthirstily screaming for us to give each grisly detail of how we killed the thieves. I realize that some of us may know, and maybe even care for some of these citizens, but overall, they have not impressed me with their demeanour. First, a bloodthirsty mob, then a town leader claiming items that may or may not belong to them. No, this does not impress me at all."
Ilsidur frowns, and looks around at what he can see of the town, to try to get an idea of the amount of damage that was actually done to the town. He is trying to figure how much money the town would need to repair itself, and if the alderman and the town needs the money, or is just being greedy.
Sly Foxx and Luke Wednesday October 9th, 2002 11:58:03 PM
"Ilsidur, you were not with us when I first met you people and led all of you to this town to meet the three Witches. These town people were ready to kill all of us. Me because I was a halfelf and Trace because he was a full elf. Pip because he didn't fit in, it was Bob who ask us to take care of Pip. That's why I want the sword. There's nothing else that interest me in these Magic item here." Sly stands and will retrieve his Magic bedroll, his parting words are, "Do what you wish." Then walks to where the girls are followed closely by Luke.
Sir Thomas Thursday October 10th, 2002 12:13:31 AM
"I agree with Shiraz. Whether they impress us with their actions is irrelevant. Fairness is the issue here. I understand we put our lives at risk, but we did that because we wanted to stand up for what was right. I say we walk away with just the one item each. There is no need for us to be greedy, even if we are the rightful owners. Give and you shall receive one-hundred fold."
Rewards Divided (DM Cayzle) Thursday October 10th, 2002 7:47:32 AM
Ilsidur looks around to estimate the damage done to the town. Buildings outside the wall have been damaged, and the southern gate was destroyed. A few buildings inside the town seem to have been burned -- there is still smoke in the air.
By now, it is getting towards sunset.
The Aelderman, who by the way is named Gymti, laughs as he listens to the debate. "You folks are hard bargainers! But of course the money will go a long way to help us rebuild. And rest assurred that none of it will end up in my pocket! I am not a crook!"
"But come, let us not squabble. Please take these wands, which no one here can use." He gives them to Ilsidur.
He hands the studded leather armor to Trace, saying, "If you want this, it is yours! And take this sword for your young friend -- Bob would want him to have it."
Sizing up Shiraz, the town leader says, "you're a big strapping fellow! Here, this ax is your size!"
He gives two items to Sir Thomas -- the masterwork mace and the horn. "I don't know if you want these items, good sir, but I know I can trust you to use them to help others some how."
"As for the town, I will take this money for repairing damage. And this chain mail and shield will be used in the town's defense if any more scoundrels come to attack us!"
"And please, my friends, be happy in Heranmar! Stay at any inn you like -- the town will pay your tab."
"Are we content, then?" he asks.
Sir Thomas Thursday October 10th, 2002 8:45:13 AM
To Gymti Thomas replies, "I will gladly let you keep the mace and the horn if you think it will be more beneficial to the town. I care less for these material things than for the well-being of the multitude. If you would have them I will leave them in your care." Thomas offers the two items back to the town Aelderman.
"Also, good sir, we seem to be short on money, but we will be glad to pay what we can of our own expenses. Thank you for your generous offer."
DM Cayzle: The Group Pot Thursday October 10th, 2002 10:42:48 AM
Friends, here's an extra post, since we are on the topic of treasure. Remember what you have in the group pot (see below). I wonder if the pot is such a good idea -- you guys seem to tend to forget it is there. If it were divided up, you might get more use out of it. Food for thought -- it's your choice!
The Group Pot (carried by Thomas and Pryte unless noted)
· Milky potion that stirs itself clockwise - gaseous form
· 5 cut emeralds of roughly the same size
· deck of Magic Trump cards - Ilsidur is carrying them
· Chloe's 2 magical gem-keys: warehouse & shop
· Bracers of Armor +1
· Brooch of shielding 30 charges
· Full potion of moderate healing 2d8+3
· 452 magical badges
· unidentified magical Wand of Isabel's (Threshold House of Mirth) - Ilsidur is carrying
· Small masterwork spiked metal shield - Oblong shaped, and the spikes so well crafted and integrated that they act as a masterwork weapon for bashing.
PLUS the treasure stored in the warehouse (in Hook City, I think?)
Sly Foxx and Luke Thursday October 10th, 2002 1:44:56 PM
Sly Come back from the girls and hears the ending of the conversation. Sly receives the Sword and his hands caresses the sword, then turns and stands between Sir Thomas and Aelderman Gymti. "Sir! If I hear your right, You people will take the Chain mail and the Shield to be used in defense of the Town. The I will give Bob's top grade Sword, I know that's the way Bob would want me to do this one thing for him.
Sly turns and tell the rest of the party, "Come on guys. I want to try a real drink and a strong one at that."
Shiraz Thursday October 10th, 2002 8:25:53 PM
"Good sir, I thank you for this gift it is truely generous." Shiraz turns to the others and smiles. "We should rest Sly and a drink could go a long way."
Trace and Radiant Thursday October 10th, 2002 9:50:42 PM
Trace cracks a smile and turns to his friend Sir Thomas, "Finnaly a suggestion we dont have to debate on. Lets go and crack open a bottle of wine. I am far passed my want of wine for this month." Trace ask the others if any of them can identyfy his new armor for him.
Sir Thomas Thursday October 10th, 2002 10:15:00 PM
Thomas smiles and goes with his friends. "Let's go enjoy ourselves. Life has been far too serious lately."
An evening of relaxation and praise! (DM Cayzle) Friday October 11th, 2002 4:42:51 PM
At last! A chance to unwind! The Southern Lights spend the evening relaxing, eating, drinking, and enjoying. Many townsfolk come up and offer their thanks. You hear yourselves called "Saviours" from the corners.
Altemia and Uteva join you for the celebration, but they have both decided that after being undead and seeing the end of the Wold, it is time to take a break from the adventuring life.
Holly also drops by, and her thanks are the most heartfelt. "Because of your kind deeds, not only are these scoundrels no longer able to hurt anyone else, but the wealth they stole has been returned and more! You are true heros!"
A bard (who is really quite good) has set up in a corner and is singing a new ballad that features your deeds. He doesn't know much, so he is improvising -- quite in your favor! He seems to be a religious bard -- and emphasizes the good deeds you've done and the lack of greed you've have demonstrated.
You seem to be the toast of the town!
Sly Foxx and Luke Saturday October 12th, 2002 5:09:43 PM
Sly sit down next to Holly, "Hello, your holly aren't you, I came into this bunch of men just when you disappeared. They tough for a while that I had something to do with disappearance. Do you see the Elfin Elders much? They did promise to help me find my mother and sister? If you should see them anytime soon, would you ask them if they found out any kind of clue as to where they could be. I know they are not dead, they were not in the Land of the Dead. If you'll excuse me I want another drink, these drink are not making me forget My gypsy girl. Nice to meet you." Sly orders another ale and goes to sit in front of the bard, and scratches Luke's ear.
Ilsidur Sunday October 13th, 2002 4:34:12 PM
Ilsidur joins the group in a few ales and a good meal. He smiles as he listens to the bard overdo their exploits. He shouts, "Hey, don't forget about the dog! His name is Luke, and he single-handedly, or single-pawedly, took care of the dwarf!"
He wonders about all of the unknown wands he is carrying, and approaches the head aelderman of the town. "Good sir, I seem to have come into possession of a small quiver-full of wands, none of which I know anything about. Is there someone in town who might be able to help me find out what they can do?"
At times, his mind wanders to the cheetah-man, wondering if they will ever run into him/it again.
Trace and Radaint Sunday October 13th, 2002 10:03:23 PM
Trace and Radiant escape to a quite table in the far corner with some cheese, bread and a bottle of wine. He feeds Radiant and streatches out while he cuts the cheese ( :P )and bread and enjoys his meal. Afterwards he lites a bit of insence while he enjoys the buzz of the wine and the flow of the music. His eyes wonders over the people in the group wondering if the shape shifter is in attendance.
Shiraz Sunday October 13th, 2002 11:40:46 PM
The minotaur stoops to enter the inn then orders a pot of tea, explaining "I had great opportunity to drink and carouse whan I was younger, but now as I get a bit older I find a pot of tea is all I need to relax."
Night and Day (DM Cayzle) Monday October 14th, 2002 11:16:04 AM
During the R&R, Holly tells Sly that she seldom leaves the Heranmar area. "There is so much work to do here," she tell him. In fact, she never sees an elf, and the few half-elves that pass through try to hide their elf blood.
"Although I have tried to inspire more tolerance, the sad truth is that the people of this place can be disapproving, even mean-spirited, to strangers, and especially to those who look strange."
But Holly holds out a ray of hope. "There is an elf-blood trader who comes through every now and then. When he comes in next, you can ask him for news. I think he hears things, and maybe he knows about your family."
----
The Aelderman has good advice for Ilsidur, although he is very circumspect about it.
"Now, don't let on I told you, because the folk here-abouts do not take well to such doings. But there is an unmarked door in an unmarked building on an alley with no name, and if you go through that door, you will find yourself in an incredible magic shop! I'll tell my boy Nad to lead you there if you like."
[OOC: Here, as in all notable towns, there is an entrance to the Catacombs, our Woldian magic store. Please feel free to go there to get identifies or to buy scrolls or whatever. -- DM Cayzle]
----
Shiraz and Trace enjoy themselves, although Shiraz sees that most people gawk at him from time to time.
----
The Southern Lights enjoy the evening with refreshing food, drink, and company. The night passes calmly, and in the morning, breakfast is good and plentiful. But it is interrupted with a faint sound of shouts and yells -- growing louder and nearer.
"Get out, Shorty! We don't need help from the likes of you!"
"Stinky midgets! Go away!"
"Go back in your holes!"
You hear a thump like a mallet hitting a side of beef.
Shiraz Monday October 14th, 2002 11:23:47 AM
Shiraz rolls up off of the floor, drawing both swords with practiced ease as he heads out the door. "By the great Imod's hammer, what goes on here?" the taur thunders.
Sly Foxx and Luke Monday October 14th, 2002 2:39:12 PM
Sly wakes to the noise of the mob, It brings back memories of the last time he was in this town. He hop out of the magic sleeping bag, "I do love this bag, save me from hang overs," he slips into his armor, "armor on" then follows Shiraz and peep out from Sharaz's underarm, "Yes! what ever he said." Luke is on the other side of Shiraz.
Ilsidur Monday October 14th, 2002 11:44:38 PM
Coming to realize just how xenophobic the town of Heranmar really is, Ilsidur fears the worst when he hears the commotion from outside. He hustles outside with the rest of the group, shouting to Shiraz and Sly, "Don't start swinging until we know what is going on!"
Trace and Radaint Tuesday October 15th, 2002 2:05:36 AM
Trace sees the group rush to help the needy, "If you need my sword I will be there. Otherwise I will finish this bottle off." Trace sits drinking and eating while playing with a dagger while he awaits to see if his help is needed.
Unwelcome Gnomes! (DM Cayzle) Tuesday October 15th, 2002 1:10:28 PM
Rushing from the tavern, Shiraz and Sly see a mob bearing down on a pair of gnomes and a human, not more than 50 feet away. The gnomes are dressed in white clerical robes (make a Knowledge of Religion check to sense that they are devoted to Alemi). The human is dressed in peasant garb, and he carries a crossbow.
The crowd is hurling taunts, insults, and even a rock, which evidently has struck the older of the gnomes.
Shiraz Tuesday October 15th, 2002 1:57:44 PM
Shiraz sprints from the door steping between the mob and the gnomes, the huge taur stands up to his full height and extends his arms out to his sides. "STOP... STOP..I AM SHIRAZ THE MONOTAUR AND I AM NOT ONE OF YOU BUT I FIGHT FOR YOU AND ALL THAT IS RIGHT. YOU WILL CEASE THIS NONSENSE NOW!!" The huge minotaur will not move when or if the mob attempts to go by but will sheath his swords and grab the first two who reach him and continue to chunk rocks.
Sly Foxx and Luke Tuesday October 15th, 2002 3:53:22 PM
Sly rushes over and helps the clerics with the human "Come hurry! The big Minotaur will hold them back. Here come into this inn. Sly tries to make a mad dash into the inn. This is not easy with two small cleric, a hurt human and an unruly snarling dog (Who is trying to help the minotaur).
Sir Thomas Tuesday October 15th, 2002 9:43:41 PM
Slow to react, Thomas follows his friends outside after they have already intercepted the mob. Mostly to himself, Thomas observes, "these people refuse to learn. They treated us the same way the first time we came to this place. It's a never ending job."
Thomas rushes to Shiraz's side to enlarge barrier between the mob and the three being accosted. "Have you no tolerance? Be ashamed at your actions! Domi does not permit this course of action, and neither will I. Stay your hands."
Thomas taps Shiraz on the butt with an open palm. "Nice work friend."
Savin Tuesday October 15th, 2002 10:41:35 PM
The young man with the gnomes steps in front of the 2 gnomes, shielding them with his body and says, "Hold people, these are good folks. What cause have you to harm them. They and myself are only here to help you. Why do you attack. Calm yourselves."
To the minotaur, "Thank you for your help. Not many in this wold will put themselves in front of a mob to protect those they don't know. You are most couragous."
As Savin converses with the migthy bullman, he will keep a watchful eye on the mob ready to defend himself and the gnomes.
Ilsidur Tuesday October 15th, 2002 11:22:56 PM
"Good idea, Sly. Let's get them into the inn." Then, Ilsidur steps up beside the other warriors blocking the mob, aand adds his voice to the rest of the party. "What is wrong with you people! Why do you hate strangers so? Have we not shown you with our actions that strangers can be good and helpful! Maybe if you stopped acting so ridiculously frightened of anyone different, other people might be willing to help your town rebuild!"
Trace and Radiant Wednesday October 16th, 2002 2:56:05 AM
Trace looks up from his wine to see them enter the inn, "yall got that handeled out there?"
Sly Foxx and Luke Wednesday October 16th, 2002 11:43:11 AM
Sly yells back to Trace, "Yes! Big Brother, we seem to have every thing in hand." To Luke "Come back Luke and watch."
Shiraz Wednesday October 16th, 2002 12:10:29 PM
Shiraz smiles at Sir Thomas,"Thanks for the vote of confidence." Shiraz turns keeping his body between that of Savin and the gnomes and the mob. To Savin the taur nods his head,"The goodness of a person is determined by his actions my sire used to say, Well met I am Shiraz of course and these are my friends if you enter the inn we can converse a bit easier."
Cowing the Mob (DM Cayzle) d20+2=18 Wednesday October 16th, 2002 12:23:04 PM
The mob collectively gasps and steps back when Shiraz roars. Then, the words fo Thomas, Ilsidur, and Savin sink in, and the crowd disperses. There are even a few mutters of "Sorry" and "We were jerks" to be heard. Maybe Holly and Donk have had an effect on this place -- maybe things have changed a little. Thomas and Trace do not think the crowd would have dispersed as easily when they first came to this town so long ago.
So it is easy to get the gnomes and human into the Inn, where Trace calls out a greeting.
The wounded gnome bows to all the taller folk around him and says, "Thank you for your kindness to strangers! May Alemi bless you and keep you! I am Gwinchin the Fixer, and with me is my assistant, Geichet." at this, Geichet, who you see is a female, also bows.
"You have aided us in our holy mission, and you have our thanks!"
Savin d20+9=16 Wednesday October 16th, 2002 4:21:03 PM
Savin grabs the wounded gnome by the arm and leads him to a chair. "Gwinchen, please sit here." Savin then pulls a box out of his backpack and pulls a clean cloth out of that. "This doesn't look to bad. You are going to have a bump and a bruise but the skin wasn't broken." Savin dabs at the lump cleaning it.
Savin looks at the others and says, "Thank you again for your assistance." He puts the cloth down and straightens up. "My name is Savin. Is this Heaven? I was dead yesterday and today I find myself here, so is this the afterlife?"
Sly Foxx and Luke Wednesday October 16th, 2002 4:24:45 PM
After they get the monks into the Inn. "I'm Sly Foxx and this war dog is Luke. I'm going for breakfast what would you like, fruit and cheese?" The half elf ask. Sly goes to Trace asking for a little bit of his wine to clear his head. Then he off to the kitchen to get breakfast for Luke. Luke knows he's going to have something to eat, so the dog is closely behind Sly.
Sir Thomas Wednesday October 16th, 2002 10:06:55 PM
Thomas goes with the group inside. "Thanks for your help Trace. I hope you get a wart on your but from sitting too much." Thomas smiles slightly at the thought, but his dry humor and stoic nature prevent him from being too playful.
He sits with his friends and orders a bit of food to be shared around. "No Savin, this is not heaven. Somehow you made it back to the land of the living. You seem to be quite lucky, as many of us are who travel for our living. I am Sir Thomas Hurley. I was once a paladin of Alemi, but he gave Domi the charge of creating an environment of justice in the Wold and so now I serve Domi. I am sorry for the welcome you received, this town seems to like to mob visitors. I think they treat it like a well-deserved treat that they have earned for waiting for the next traveler without fighting each other."
Ilsidur Thursday October 17th, 2002 12:28:20 AM
Ilsidur finishes his breakfast, which has grown cold. Around mouthfuls of food, he says, "Well met, Savin. My name is Ilsidur Wayfinder, recently an initiate of Marmathon Dur, but even more recently in a state of flux. How did you come to be with these gnomes?"
Then he turns to the gnomes and says, "I am glad we were able to help. What is this holy mission that you speak of?"
Trace and Radaint d20+9=23 Thursday October 17th, 2002 2:08:18 AM
Trace smile back at Sir Thomas, "Well if I get one I will eagerly show it to you. Besides then next disturbance comes along I'll take care of it and you can grow warts. Of course I handle things in a bit less courgal way then you do." Trace finishs up his meal and relaxes a bit while he enjoys his wine. He sits with his back in the corner overlooking the inn and the door. (spot check 23)
The Fixer's Tale (DM Cayzle) Thursday October 17th, 2002 1:58:10 PM
The gnome, resisting Savin's grab, continue's standing. "That's no lump!" he tells the human. "That's my nose!"
Gwinchin laughs as he shows the place where the rock hit -- there is a thin trickle of blood. But with a short prayer, he cures himself.
[OOC: George, no problem, but please remember to give orders only for your own PC -- don't describe things in the DM's realm, like the wound on an NPC! -- Cayzle]
"But thank you for your help," Gwinchin tells Savin.
"Fruit and cheese sound great," he says to Sly, and Geichet also nods and says in a soft voice, "Thank you kindly."
The innkeeper is happy to give Sly a big platter of fruit and cheese, with some meats as well. Then the innkeeper brings out water, juice, and milk.
Thomas and Savin talk about dying. Thomas and the other Southern Lights recall that over the last day, they have heard stories that everybody who died in the Year of Ascension has been brought back to life again.
Gwinchin hears that Sir Thomas honored Alemi and now honors Domi. He smiles and says that he is pleased to meet folk who are also devoted to the side of health and goodness.
Trace keeps a keen eye open, but sees nothing threatening.
Ilsidur asks the gnome about his mission, and he tells you his story:
"You all know that the Dark One sought to rule the entire Wold," Gwinchin says, "and in his seeking he raised armies and killed, burned, and destroyed. Even in defeat, he is now the head of a dark cult of gods, coeval with Alemi, though I hate to utter the words."
"Through the grace of the powers that be, all those killed have been restored. But the damage inflicted on the Wold in that war remains! We are of the sect of Alemi's Fixers, devoted to healing the harms done to the Wold."
"We were drawn here because we felt that this place needed our help. But with this mob, I am not so sure! Are you folks native to this place? Or are you also passers-through, as I suspect."
"Frankly, we only work where we are welcome. If I can find three natives to welcome us, we will stay. Otherwise I see no reason to spend our energy in such an unwelcoming place."
Ilsidur Thursday October 17th, 2002 7:13:26 PM
Ilsidur smiles at the two gnomes, and says, "Alemi's Fixers? That sounds just like what this town needs right now. If the people here weren't so afraid of strangers, maybe they would realize just how you could help them out. We can try to plead your cause, and see if the town will accept you and your help."
Ilsidur approaches the innkeeper, and says, "Could you call the Aelderman here to the inn? These two gnomes are part of a group of worshippers of Alemi, that specialize in fixing damage, especially damage to structures. If you and the Aelderman can get the people of this town to recognize their potential worth, they will likely aid you all in rebuilding the damage that was done by the raiders."
Sir Thomas Thursday October 17th, 2002 7:23:06 PM
"I doubt we'll have to plead their case. Holly and Donk are native and they were two of the very few who welcomed us when we first passed through here. They'd welcome your presence Gwinchin. By Domi's grace and Alemi's glory, they're hard workers. I'm sure they'd be good friends to you, and they'll be good foremen on a crew set to rebuilding this town. I'll try to find them so you can meet them."
Thomas gets up from the table and leaves in search of Holly, Donk, or both. He will ask around if necessary to find them, or he'll go to where he knows they are most likely to be.
Savin Thursday October 17th, 2002 10:28:39 PM
Savin settles down and starts to eat some breakfast. He is a little put out with the gnome. He was only trying to help after all. He watches the group bustle around doing things and searching out people trying to help the fixers.
He leans over to the young man named Trace and asks, "Your friends seem brave and more than willing to help strangers. It sounds like you and your friends aren't from around here. What is it you do? With a paladin in the group, I can assume you aren't evil. Truth be told, I am not even sure where I am. I realize that this sounds odd, but it seems that I have been sent here by the Gods for some purpose."
Savin hold up his arm to show his new tattoo. "I never had this before. It just appeared. I wonder what it means? It was throbbing yesterday but doesn't hurt to bad today. See the pretty spiral."
Shiraz Thursday October 17th, 2002 10:38:39 PM
"I also am fairly new here Savin I arrived just before the venture into the lands of the dead." Shiraz holds out his hand,"I also have a similair tattoo."
Sly Foxx and Luke Friday October 18th, 2002 2:08:12 AM
Sly exits the kitchen with a large platter full of eggs, sweet meats, portage, flat cakes, cheese and fruits. "The Inn Keeper will be here with the rest. Now I'll get Luke's meal." It's back into the Kitchen, then Sly is back with a bowl of scraps for the dog and a large plate of food for him self.
Sly will sit next to Trace and starts to eat (and eat). "I'm not too hungry today, So you better get your own breakfast, Big Brother." But as Savin shows his tattoo off, Sly stop eating, takes off his gloves and show Savin the very same tattoo on the back of Sly's hand. "Well, it looks like you belong with us, Domi and Alemi still have some work for us to do?". Sly finishes his breakfast.
Trace and Radiant d20+9=20 Friday October 18th, 2002 1:34:43 PM
"Yes Savin, Me and Sir Thomas are from a place called New Ellana. The others except for Shiraz are from this land. Most of us will bend over backwards for strangers for the name of Alemi and Domi. Me I am a little hesitant to jump right in. At times I am a bit self rightous so it does me good to keep these fine people near me." Trace laughs a bit, "My Uncle used to call people like us bleeding hearts. I am glad to have you with us, We need all the help we can get in order to make this land safer." (spot check 20)
Savin Friday October 18th, 2002 3:27:41 PM
Savin looks at the tatoos of the others. "I guess I am meant to travel with you for a while. I am a monk trained in the arts of hand to hand combat. I was also trained at the monastary in healing and herbalism. I have been known to play some flute and I really cook a mean omelette when pressed." Savin looks at his new found friends. "What are your skills and talents. I was told by my master it is better to know your companions talents and skills so you can better work as a team."
Shiraz Friday October 18th, 2002 9:23:55 PM
"My talents, well you saw the first oneoutside I am well a bit large. And the other is these 2 swords I swing around every now and then, happens to make some tend to back off a bit when they were in a hurry." Shiraz chuckles softly.
Sly Foxx and Luke Friday October 18th, 2002 10:38:07 PM
"My talents, I don't know? I'm half elf and my age is about 17 or 18 in human years. My quest is finding my mother, my sister and my little gypsy girl. I fight a little and I can use magic a little." Sly said with a far away look in his eyes. "Did you say you can COOK? Monk Savin You are most welcome."
Then as an after though, Sly points at the war dog, "My friend here is Luke, He's a war dog, he decided to follow me one day and we have been companion ever since. Don't worry if your with our party, he'll fight for you too."
Ilsidur Saturday October 19th, 2002 10:37:44 AM
"Well, Savin, since it seems you are marked to travel with us, it makes sense for you to understand each of us. I am the 'old man' of the group, tyring to keep these young ones in line. Generally, they aren't too much trouble, occasionally a little head-strong. But the always have the best interests at heart. I am obviously a cleric, with all the positives and negatives that come with it."
Needles in a Haystack (DM Cayzle) Sunday October 20th, 2002 3:32:39 PM
Aelderman Gymti comes to the inn in answer to Ilsidur's request, and Sir Thomas finds Holly without a problem. Donk is nowhere to be found, but that is not unusual -- the dwarf seems to come and go as he wants.
While Holly and Gymti are arriving, the Southern Lights welcome the new member in their midst.
Gwinchin turns an angry eye on Holly and the Aelderman when they arrive. "What kind of a town is this?" he demands. He tells them that his holy mission is to repair the damage of the recently concluded godwar, but the welcome shown him and his aide have not convinced him that this is a place that deserves assistance.
The aelderman asks how much the gnomes would charge to fix things. He seems concerned about the price. At this, Holly rolls her eyes and Gwinchin gets even angrier.
Holly steps in. "I am not a native of this place, but I have lived here for a while, trying to make a difference. Yes, the people here are venal and weak, and they are terrified of strangers and new things. But there are new things in the Wold, whether we fear them or not, and some of those new things, like you dedicated folk, are wonders, not terrors."
"The mood of the town can get ugly," she continues, "but I think the folk here respect me enough that if I talk to the right people, I can calm them down. Please, be at home here, and let us have lunch in a few hours. At lunch you will see that not all Heranmites are closed and rude."
Gwinchin agrees, and Holly invites the Southern Lights and the Aelderman to come outside.
The mob is still there, but it is quieter.
Holly talls the Aelderman, "Gymti, I charge you to stay here and make sure there is no trouble. I have to go among the mob and the town and calm them."
"And you, my friends old and new," she says to the party, now including Savin, "I need you to go among the townsfolk to find any who seem friendly and reasonable. Bring them back for lunch. Your reputations and the holy tatoos you bear will protect you -- perhaps you should go out singly or in pairs."
"I will try to bring back folk of good will also, but I may be too busy calming the rowdy and ill-spirited. So I am counting on you to find good-natured folk. Thank you for your help yet again! Good luck!"

"Hello My Merry Friends!" Savin says in a loud voice. "Be of good cheer. I know that things have seem horrible lately. Be at ease. You have new and powerful friends here to help you. Even now they are plannig on how to help rebuild your town."
Savin deftly stops juggling and will hand out the fruit to some children if any are in the audience. If not he will look for the elderly. He will present the food with a bow and then pull out a flute out of his pack. He will play and enchantingly beautiful song. If he still has the crowds attention, he will call out. Sir Thomas d20=13 d20=17 Monday October 21st, 2002 12:25:35 AM
Once he returns and hears of the conversations that transpired, Thomas finishes his introductions with Savin, "Welcome to the group Savin. Indeed you were meant to walk with us, the Children of Chaos. We call ourselves the Southern Lights though. I myself am a very skilled rider and handler of animals. I know a fair amount about healing, and I am an excellent public speaker and diplomat ... when my friends afford me the opportunity. Some of them tend to like to fight first and see what happens. I'd rather leave fighting as a last resort. If you'll excuse me, I'd like to say something to this crowd."
He steps out onto the porch (if it exists) and calms the crowd so they will listen to him. [Rolled 13 + 10 = 23 Diplomacy] "Heranmarites! Good people! Please, quiet yourselves. I have a request for you. As most of you know, I am Sir Thomas Hurley, devout follower of Domi, former messenger of Alemi's justice. I am a Child of Chaos and a member of the Southern Lights. I understand you fears and concerns about the Wold and the inhabitants of your lands; especially since the Godwar. But, this is not a constructive solution to any problem that faces you, nor has it ever been a constructive solution. I would ask you to reconsider these actions of banding together in a violent manner every time someone unfamiliar to you enters town. I want to reiderate that I understand your concerns, especially after the recent events, but this new group of individuals has shown no sign of violence to you. Not even when presented with violence by you first. Please, it really would benefit you to open your minds to the possibility that they, like the Southern Lights, have something to offer you. If you will open your minds to this possibility, I think you'll find a much more civil solution to their presence. Your town leader, Gymti and Holly, and we, the Southern Lights, would ask you to disperse to your homes for the afternoon while this is sorted out. I will be here, on this porch, all afternoon. If you would like to ask me questions or voice concerns regarding the matter of the new-comers I would be glad to hear them. I would ask that you only voice constructive thoughts. Please, help speed the process and the level of stress provided to all and go home. I'm sure there are chores waiting for you. I will pass any thoughts or opinions on to your town leaders at a time that is more approptiate. Thank you for listening to me."
Thomas keeps a concerned and disarming tone while speaking to the crowd. He scans the crowd for faces that seem to be more accepting of his attempt to disarm the community and tries to remember their faces if they come to speak to him. [Rolled 17 + 2 WIS = 19 Spot]
Shiraz d20-2=4 Monday October 21st, 2002 4:15:08 PM

Unfriendly Heranmar (DM Cayzle) (I made rolls for success, and I used them for the turn, but the Web ate them. before I could click the submit button. Sorry!) Monday October 21st, 2002 5:41:36 PM
Sly approaches person after person, but the four people he talks to are not very friendly. The third person he talks to is actually nasty, and says, "Get out of here, you damn dirty elf!" Luke growls and the man walks off. Does Sly keep looking at random? Or does he search with some strategy or purpose? How many more people will he try?
Shiraz has even less luck than Sly! Children run at the sight of him, doors slam shut, dogs bark, and there is not a single friendly face to be seen!
Trace sees a couple faces that look familiar. What does he do when he sees someone he recognizes? Also, who is he looking for? Who are some of the people he remembers best? Does he ask around for anyone in particular? Who? [OOC: Yes, Ted, I'm asking you to bend your memory or go look in the archives! LOL!]
Savin, perhaps because he is human, or perhaps because he is entertaining, quickly draws a crowd. Now that he has a few listeners, and even some who clap along, what does he do to find folk who would be receptive to the gnomes (people to invite to lunch)?
With Thomas's peaceful diplomacy and Holly's discussion with individuals in the crowd, the crowd disperses, and Thomas notes that a few hang their heads or seem a little ashamed of themselves. Most of the others are attraced by the entertaining Savin up the block!
Holly herself escorts the most ugly-looking knot of townsfolk away.
Finally, two people are left -- a young woman and a strong middle-aged man. The man, clad in a heavy leather apron, strong pants, and a dirty shirt, approaches Sir Thomas. He speaks, a little angrily, saying, "What do those midgets have to offer? Huh? I've heard that the little ones are tricky. I saw the tools at their belts! I bet they came looking for jobs! Well why should they take work out of my hands? How will I feed my kids if they take the work here in town?"
Ilsidur Monday October 21st, 2002 11:29:47 PM
Ilsidur moves up beside Sir Thomas, and addresses the man in the leather apron. "Sir, first of all, these two are gnomes, not midgets. Or am I too a midget?" He draws himself up to his full 3' 11".
"As for what they have to offer, they can offer you help in rebuilding your fair town. Look around you, man! There is plenty of work for anyone with your obvious skills! Don't you think the people of the city have been hurt enough, with the changes in the gods, and then the damage wrought by the the raiders that we recently defeated. I would think that the focus of the good people of this city should be to rebuild, and erase those awful memories. These gnomes can help with that, if you will only let them. They are worshippers of gentle Alemi, focussing on healing the damage wrought during the Year of Ascension, which is how they glorify his name. Let them help you now. And do not paint all gnomes with the same brush. Are you not as human as some of those raiders were? Does that make you like them?"
After hearing the man's reponse, he addresses the young lady. "Young lady, I am Ilsidur Wayfinder, of the Southern Lights. And who might you be?"
Sir Thomas d20=6 Tuesday October 22nd, 2002 12:16:13 AM
[Rolled 6 + 10 = 16 Diplomacy]
Not wanting to irritate Ilsidur nor make it seem that any of his strong points lack in thought, but wanting everyone to save face and disarm a confrontation (verbal though it may be), Thomas interjects after Ilsidur's last two questions to the man. "Ilsidur, you have valid points, but I think you might agree that feeding one's family might be a cause for concern for this man." Thomas guides Ilsidur toward the woman while he converses with the man who appears to be a smith of some kind. "Good sir, I understand you concern and can empathize with you, however, all we're asking at this point is for a little civility. There are much better ways to solve disagreements and to discern information than to fight and call folks names. To answer your question, these two gnomes seem to be fixers. I'm not EXACTLY sure what that means, but it seems that they follow Alemi's cause and want to help rebuild the Wold. They have not voiced a desire to lay roots in Heranmar; their only wish seems to be to help you rebuild your town and then to move on to help others who are in need of their services.
Also, I would suggest that you consider Ilsidur's points while you ponder this last one of mine. You appear to be a smith of some kind. I am a skilled blacksmith and weaponsmith as I grew up a squire and had to know how to take care of and repair my knight's weapons and armor and other items of metal make. Do you feel threatened by my presence here? I could eassily compete with you for business, but that is not my calling. I, like the gnomes, wish only to help you and then to move on to help the next person who is in need of help. However, I will warn you that I, like them, am in no hurry to help those who would reject me, attack me, or prove to be made of a fiber that is the antithesis of what I am. Those of us born of goodness should not be inherently violent despite the course of events that have shaped our lives.
"I hope that I have answered your questions and more. I also hope you see the wisdom of my words. Do you have any further inquiries?"
Savin d20+5=16 Tuesday October 22nd, 2002 8:34:00 AM
Savin stops playing for a minute and says, "Sorry folks. I only have time for one more song for now. I have to help prepare lunch. I will being playing later during the lunch that is honoring the Fixers. They are the ones who have been blessed by Alemi and are here to help you rebuild your town. Anyone who has experienced damage to their home or place of business should stop by. It isn't often that you get free help in rebuilding. I know I would take it up if I was in your shoes."
Savin brings the flute to his lips again and finishes with another very upbeat song. When he finishes he will ask, "Please give me a show of hands on who will be at the lunch? I need to know how much to prepare. If you think I play well, you should taste one of my meals"

Looking for Lunch Guests (DM Cayzle) d20=11 (Sly's Chr Roll) Tuesday October 22nd, 2002 8:09:46 PM
The artisan listens to Ilsidur and Sir Thomas, at first angrily, and then more calmly. He turns without a word, although he touches his hand to his forehead in respect to Sir Thomas, and walks away peacefully.
The two friends also talk with the young woman. She smiles at Ilsidur and holds her hand out in greeting. "Hi! I'm Wendie! You're cute!" she says with a giggle. "Can I meet those darling little people? They're so cute! Gerald should not have thrown that rock!"
At Savin's request for lunch volunteers, a few hands shoot up -- a couple young people, probably apprentices. A skinny woman shouts out, "Is it a free lunch?"
The man Sly approaches denies meeting Sly before. "You must mean my brother! I'm Thert, a farmer. My brother works on the docks. He told me about you Chaos Children. Are you still asking me to come to lunch? Why? What's the catch?
Shiraz gets back to the inn first of all the Southern Lights. Geichet, the younger fixer, asks him, "Did you folks find nice people in this town? Or are they all unfriendly?"
Sir Thomas Tuesday October 22nd, 2002 8:26:58 PM
Thomas approaches Wendie and stands next to Ilsidur. "Hello Wendie. I overheard your conversation with Ilsidur while I was finishing with that man. You seem very nice. Do you have questions regarding the new-comer gnomes? Would you like to meet them. They really are very nice and would prove helpful to your town."
Ilsidur Tuesday October 22nd, 2002 10:29:08 PM
Ilsidur leaves the young lady to Sir Thomas' ministrations and calls out to the apronned man before he can move away, "Sir, please understand I meant you no offence, and I am sorry if I have caused any. We are having a meeting over lunch here at the inn. Would you be willing to come to lunch, and discuss the needed repairs with the gnomes, and the other townspeople, over lunch? If so, do you think you could ask some of your fellow builders to join us? We really need as many of you there as possible, to organize the rebuilding of the city. I think that you understand the importance of burying our differences to focus on what is most important. Do you think that you can help us?"
Sly Foxx and Luke Tuesday October 22nd, 2002 11:56:18 PM
"A farmer, that is very good. With all the repairs and rebuilding around here. This town will need the help of farmers. It would do you good to meet the town people and these little monks and just talk and have a free lunch." Sly rubs his tummy and look at Luke "You know I'm getting hungry, Let's us all go to the inn and have some lunch?" Sly waits for an answer as his stomac rumbles.
Savin Wednesday October 23rd, 2002 12:23:07 AM
Savin calls out, "Yes I will provide the lunch as long as you provide the appetites. If you come though, you will have to listen to the plans of the fixers with an open mind and heart. They are only here to help you help yourselves. Now who is coming?" Savin quickly counts hands and says, "If there is going to be a lunch ready, I must get busy. I am looking forward to seeing you all there."
Savin hurries back to the nn and finds the inn keeper. He tells them how many to expect from his party and adds another 20 to the list. He figures that this will include the Fixers, The Southern Lights, and any other guests that they might be bringing. "Might I suggest a good stew with freshly baked bread. It is hearty and easy to make for large numbers of people. Let me give you a deposit on the lunch so you don't have to worry about getting stuck for the food." Savin hands over 5 gold pieces. "I will be glad to help out in the kitchen. I haven't been able to cook for large numbers in a long time but I have the skill. I will be right back to help. I just need to see the Fixers for a minute." Savin bounds out to the common room, hoping the gnomes are still there. If they are he will say, "My friends. You said if 3 people were willing to accept you, you would be willing to stay. Prepare your plans because I have found more than three and they are coming to lunch to hear your plans for fixing and improving the town. Please compose your thoughts and be ready to discuss the subject."
Savin bounds back to the kitchen and starts chopping onions if the cook doesn't mind some extra help.

Trace makes his way back to the docks to where he met a farmer that was somewhat friendly to him and the rest that was with him when he first arrived to this town. When Trace finds him. Trace walks up to the farmer hoping he rembers who he is and even rembers there first visit. "Hello sir, it is nice to see you again. I dont know if you rember me but you were kind to me and my friends when we first arrived. The reason I have sought you out is that there are some more new arrivals that have come here to help rebuild your fair town. We would like you to come and listen what they can do to help and hope to have your support and to show that you will welcome them. You must see that some strangers are good for this town like me and my friends have been. It is good to see you agian and I hope to see you give your support at the tavern tonight." Before leaving he ask if he knows that anyone else would have an open mind about meeting the fixers. Trace shakes his hand and waves bye to him. (diplomacy 8)

OOC: I'm sorry I didn't post yesterday, my friends -- I was under the weather, so I went home from work early and went to bed.]
Wendie is very enthusiastic. "Thank you, good knight," she says smiling widely. "You are the cutest knight I have ever seen! I would love to have lunch with you and those cute little people!"
Ilsidur has worse luck. The artisan stares at him for a moment and them walks away.
Sly's farmer agrees to come to lunch, although he mutters something about "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch!"
Four people take Savin up on his offer -- the two apprentices, the skinny woman, and a boy she has with her. The rest are too suspicious.
Trace is not warmly welcomed at the docks. Even the guy he recognized is not receptive. He returns to the Inn with no company, although one dockworker agrees to stop by tonite after work.
Savin's attention helps assure him that at least the serving of the meal will go well.
Shiraz notices the gnomes talking to the innkeeper and making some preparations of their own.
All in all, when lunch time comes around, the Southern Lights have brought back Wendie, Sly's farmer, and Savin's two apprentices and the mom and kid. As the guests enter the inn, the farmer and the mom look shocked at the gnomes. They abruptly turn around and walk away.
At the lunch: the party, Holly, Aelderman Gymti, Gwinchin and Geichet, Wendie, and the apprentices, Malfred ("Call me Fred for short") and Polson ("Call me Pol").
Before lunch, Gwinchin says grace, and asks Alemi's blessings on the town and on those who have suffered in the war.
Lunch goes well, and afterward, the gnomes show the gathering what they can do. Looking at the Aelderman, GWinchin emphasizes that his holy mission requires no payment, but that donations are welcome. With spells, they mend several broken pots and tack that the innkeeper had ready. The apprentices are very excited about that, and want to learn how. They seem to think thir work would be much easier if they could just fix things with a few waves of the hand. Wendie hangs on every word that the gnomes say. Holly seems the most serious, and is the first to thank the gnomes for their help.
Gwinchin asks if there is a greater task for which he and Geichet can offer Alemi's healing touch.
Sly Foxx and Luke Thursday October 24th, 2002 11:19:21 AM
Sly walk into the Inn, "Now look Farmer, LOOK at that food." Silence!! Sly turn around and the farmer is walking away. Turning again to the table full of food, "Look Luke, at all that Lunch... What's that? Sir Thomas?? Arriving here with a pretty girl on his arm??? Luke, partner, I have to pay more attention to that Knight in Shining Armor!"
Sir Thomas Thursday October 24th, 2002 11:26:53 AM
Thomas simply thanks Wendie for her complement, then escorts her into the inn. He sits quielty during dinner to allow those who should speak an opportunity and his full attention. He nods and is as involved as he needs to be so they know he understands what they are saying. Thomas eats his fill of dinner, but it comes in nibbles since he is paying so close attention to the speakers. After they finish Thomas adds, "thank you for you presentation. I hope it is as well accepted later as it is now, otherwise I have a feeling that we'll all be leaving together."
Shiraz Thursday October 24th, 2002 1:43:54 PM
"Tis truley the blessings of Alemi that allow you to do such feats? Can all things be fixed as you have shown us?" Shiraz seems truley interested in the gnomes.
Trace and Radiant Thursday October 24th, 2002 1:58:09 PM
Trace returns to the inn a bit frustrated at his luck with the dock. He cant understand how he has done so much for this land and still be greeted in such a way. He orders some wine and sits back in his corner while watching the very handy gnome do their work.
Savin Thursday October 24th, 2002 4:57:53 PM
Savin walks around making sure that everyone's bowl is full thinking to himself. "I hope these Southern Lights like left overs. My pot is still 3/4's full."
After the meal and the gnomes speech, Savin will pull Shiraz aside and delicately ask, "Who is the leader of this "Southern Lights"? What are you goals long term and short? Do you report to anyone? Or do you just follow your own will and look for wrongs to right? Where do we go from here? This mysterious tattoo seems to bind me to you and your friends for a while but I would like to know your goals"

Ilsidur Friday October 25th, 2002 12:23:45 AM
Ilsidur moves over to stand beside the minotaur. "Well, my big new friend, it seems like you and I have wasted our time and effort here, trying to talk the people of this 'fair" city into accepting help. Apparently, it doesn't matter about the content, or how compelling your message is. The only thing to matter is that it is delivered by a pretty face or a flashy delivery." He glances over at Sir Thomas and Savin, and smiles. "Next time, I don't think I will waste my time trying to use my rather significant intellect to try to win people over, since they can't seem to see past my unseemly physical appearance. That reminds me of a story about a man with a big nose trying to woo a fair maiden, and having his dumb but attractive friend delivery his messages of affection for him. Except in that story, the young lady comes to realize who really is the attractive one, and sees past the physical deformity. I honestly don't see the people of this town being quite so insightful."
"Frankly, I am losing interest in trying to help a town full of such shallow, self-centered people that would cut off their noses to spite their faces (no pun intended)."
Shiraz Friday October 25th, 2002 12:11:32 PM
"I havent been here as long as the rest of you but I tend to agree with you on this, why continue to workout of this city when they are not willing to accept people espically you and the others who have been here helping." The taur turns to Savin,"Leader? We follow our hearts and sometimes our whims, we report to no one that I have been told about nor swear allegiance to anything other than goodness and we try to do what is right. As for goals, I am not sure what our current goals are exploration I am sure but also we need to re-equip, I have head Trace and Sly both say that."
The Real Miracle to Come (DM Cayzle) Friday October 25th, 2002 7:16:25 PM
After enjoying the lunch and the rapt attention of the folks at the table, Gwinchin seems to be in a better mood. He chuckles, and dismisses the things he and Geichet have done so far as "trifles."
"The real demonstration of Alemi's blessing comes when we draw forth the Holy Woldsblood!" he declares. "With that fair substance we will fix many things in the Wold!"
He invites you all to come, now that lunch is over, and join the gnomes in a more dramatic work -- beginning to repair the town gates.
"That will be our test, and you may be glad to see Alemi's miracles at work. And I will admit to selfishness -- I would love to have you all near us in case the other townsfolk are not welcoming!"
Will you join the gnomes and go to the Town Gate now?

Uncertain as to whether he heard Ilsidur correctly and whether or not Ilsidur holds a grudge against him, Thoma keeps his mouth shut and accompanies the group to the town gates. Before arriving there he collects all of his gear and Pryte-Honos. Once all have accumulated at the gate, Thomas speaks for the whole group ... he thinks. "After this test, I believe we will re-equip ourselves for travel and be going. It seems to be the best thing considering ..." Thomas leaves the sentence hanging before looking at his friends, "Do you guys agree or have I spoken prematurely?"
Trace and Radiant Sunday October 27th, 2002 10:43:33 PM
Trace readies his gear and saddels up on Shadow then rides up next to Sir Thomas. "I agree with you, this town gives me itchy feet. Lets see this mircle and make plans to head out. Maybe see if there is another large city in this land besides Hook."
The Blood of the Wold! (DM Cayzle) Monday October 28th, 2002 1:33:08 PM
The two fixer gnomes lead the lunch party out of the inn and down to the south gates. The wall around the town is made of rock pillars and stout logs. The gates were made of oak and iron. But now the gates are in ruins. The gnomes talk together about what to do -- but most of the conversation is in gnomish. They begin to sort out the task, but it takes a good half hour before they finish the evaluation and present a list to the Aelderman.
Gwinchin tells him, "Here are the things we will need. It will take us about two weeks to finish the job. But your gates will be better than ever. But first I need your solemn word that nothing we repair will be used to aid the dark one who loves disease and damage more than life itself. Will you so promise?"
The Aelderman stammers a bit, until Holly pokes him in the side. "Oh, uh, of course, I promise," he gasps.
"Very good," Gwinchin says. Then he begins to unpack his back pack, removing a mess of clamps and hammers. "Stay back, everybody," he says.
Then the gnomes begin casting spells -- Ilsidur recognizes tham as Endurance and Guidance. Then Geichet stands still and murmurs. She closes her eyes and reaches out her hands. She kneels and motions as if to dip her hands into something that is not there. She lifts her hands up, and you can see first one, and then two, drops of blood in her hand!
But these drops are unlike blood you have seen in battle many times before. The drops of blood are glowing, and Geichets hands also glow with a dark red light. The smell -- a rich earthy loamy fertile smell -- is overwhelming. You feel compelled to step closer, because the drops are calling to you!
"Behold the Blood of the Wold!" Geichet cries, snapping you out of it. The person closest to her -- Wendie -- looks dazed. "Praise to Alemi, who blesses us with the sacred Woldsblood," Geichet prays.
She holds her hands out to Gwinchen and drops the woldsblood into his hands. You still feel a strange pull from the drops. Gwinchin prays and rubs the drops over the tools he unpacked. After a moment, the tools stir! They are all connected into one thing -- a sort of tripod with clamps and hammers at the head of it! The device stands still, about as tall as Gwinchin.
The two gnomes and the animated device begin to take the pieces of the gates apart and organize them, laying them down in the dirt to one side. They wrestle one large old piece of wood, about 100 pounds worth.
Meanwhile, the crowd watching has grown. The two apprentices from lunch ran off and spread the word, it would seem. There are murmurs and anxious sounds of fear at the sight of the animated tool device. You hear people talk about how the gnomes' hands are stained with blood -- and their hands ARE both stained red and glowing from handling woldsblood.
The Gwinchin casts another guidance and begins to concentrate. He cups his hands, as Geichet did before. He draws two drops of woldsblood into his hands, which are still glowing red.
Again, the raw woldsblood exerts a pull on you, and on all the people, as well. Many people fall to their knees and begin to pray. Some, with looks of disgust on their faces, turn away.
One man pulls out a shortsword and charges the gnomes! What do you do?
Sly Foxx and Luke Monday October 28th, 2002 3:31:26 PM
Sly stands there watching the Gnomes doing their magic. "wow what lucky people you all are to have these monks fixing this town. Look that gate and wall will be better than ever." Remarks Sly, then out of the corner of his eye, was the movement of the man starting his charge. "Luke! STOP him, don't hurt him just stop him." Sly points at the man, then he unsheath his sword. Luke run to and stops in front of the gnomes, and growls at the advancing man.

Shiraz reaches out with his hands and grabs the man with the sword.<Hit AC 25 preparing second attack for another attempting to harm the clerics> "No, I think not." Shiraz atempts to lift the man and fails, then feeling the pull of the woldsblood makes a will save<DC 20 woo hoo>.
Sir Thomas d20=11 d10=3 d20=19 d10=7 Tuesday October 29th, 2002 12:23:04 AM
Doing his best not to interrupt the gnomes, but knowing the urgency to stop any mob or riot, Thomas and Pryte move quickly to take a positoin between the townspeople and the gnomes. He does not yell, but he states loudly enough that many near him can here his words, "you people deserve NOT the help of these good folk. You deserve to be left to suffer the damage of your own ignorance and blind hatred. Feel lucky that they have giving hearts, but I swear that any of you who attack these gnomes will find themselves dying in the dirt before Alemi's Fixers."
Thomas will strike at the weapon of anyone coming for the gnomes is brandishing (Readied Attack: rolled 11 + 12 = 23 to disarm? or possibly cause damage to the weapon only; rolled 3 + 4 = 9 dmg) If his words and his attempt to difuse the situation without harm to anyone does not cause at least compliance by the townspeople, Thomas will attack those who continue to advance on the GOOD gnomes of Alemi. (Rolled Readied Attack 19 + 6 = 25 to hit; Rolled 7 + 4 = 11) If it comes to that, which I'll emphasize is ABSOLUTELY a last resort to prevent the harm of the gnomes, Thomas will speak again, "I warned you, please stop before more are harmed."
Savin Tuesday October 29th, 2002 12:41:07 AM
Savin is engrossed with the spell work of the gnomes and doesn't notice the charging man until some of his new friends interpose themselves. Feeling chagrinned at not being aware, he will ready himself for combat in support of the Southern Lights if needed.
Trace and Radiant d20+1=11 Tuesday October 29th, 2002 2:42:52 AM
Trace watches intently as the gnomes work. As he is awakened by Shiraz and Sir Thomas he draws his swords and takes up a postion between the gnomes and the crowed. Trace begins to twist and twirl his swords in an attempt to discourage any other attempts to stop the gnomes. (11 intemidate)
The Fix is In (DM Cayzle) Tuesday October 29th, 2002 7:18:53 AM
The Southern Lights quickly act to disarm and grab the raving human. Perhaps the woldsblood affected him -- or maybe he just hates gnomes! Either way, the party quickly squelches him.
The Fixers continue, uninterrupted. Each gnome takes a drop of Woldsblood and -- with glowing red hands -- rubs it into the broken piece of the gate. Before your eyes, splinters meld together, and what was broken and warped becomes straight and sound!
Leaving Geichet and the animated bundle of clamps and hammers to keep working, Gwinchin comes over to you. His hands still glow, and he reeks with the earthy pungent smell of the holy blood.
About a quarter of the crowd has left, but the remaining majority clap and cry out their thanks! Holly says, "Well done!" and the Aelderman comments "How efficient!" Wendie just gapes!
Some of the townsfolk are cowed by the Southern Lights -- others just look on in wonder.
Gwinchin says a prayer of thanks to Alemi before the people.
Then he turns to the Southern Lights. "My friends, although most of the folk here are grateful for Alemi's gifts, some are not. Thank you for your timely aid. If you have anything that is broken or needs fixing, you know that you should come to me!"
"Although our welcome was harsh, most people here are good of heart. I wish to stay and offer my aid. But I would be grateful to have you stay here with me as Geichet and I work. We will be done in a couple weeks. Would you mind if I ask your help for that time?"
[OOC: Friends, I figured this would be a good time to get xp, update PC sheets, shop at the Catacombs, identify items, role play, etc. Maybe we can meet new players, if Stephen is ready to have them start posting. At least Jeff (Jurgen) can rejoin us. How does that sound? I'll be sending out e-mail with xp and stuff later today. -- DM Cayzle]
Sly Foxx and Luke Tuesday October 29th, 2002 11:53:25 AM
"Monk Gwinchin, I have a broken Heart, Just before the gods war, my beautiful gypsy girl was taken from me, by that evil ONE. Whe I went to fight in that gods war as an undead, she was not in the land of the dead. What can I do? Can you mend my broken heart?" ask Sly as he pets Luke.
Shiraz Tuesday October 29th, 2002 12:38:23 PM
As the gnomes finish up Shiraz lets teh man with the sword loose, "You might want to be a bit more careful with that sword mister, some might take offense." Shiraz turns and bows to the gnomes "Masterful miracle there, havent seen anything like that in.. oh forever, I guess." Shiraz looks up and ponders the sky for a moment "I would prefer to leave tomorrow but if you need us to stay so yo might work than I will stay, give me a chance to talk to Savin and see what he is about, let em talk to my friends and see what they say."
Sir Thomas Tuesday October 29th, 2002 9:15:03 PM
Thomas too is amazed by the mending of the gate. "I'm sorry I didn't get to witness the mending, but that really is quite a feet. Alemi truely does walk among us." In response to the request of the gnomish fixer, Thomas replies, "well, I have already spoken for the group once today; I'll not do so again. I, however, will stay because of my respect and admiration for Alemi ... and because one of his fingers has asked for my help. I am at your service for two weeks dear Gwinchin. Direct me to any of your most noble of ends." Thomas salutes and then sheaths his sword, dismounts Pryte, and kneels before the short but loud voice of Alemi.
Savin Tuesday October 29th, 2002 10:15:01 PM
Savin sighs and says, "OK I am willing to stay. Where are we staying?" Savin asks the gnomes, "Where are you staying?" To the Southern Lights he adds, "Maybe we should make up a schedule on having some of us stay with the monks at all times."
Trace and Radiant Wednesday October 30th, 2002 4:09:00 AM
"Ok, staying to hlep the gnomes sounds fine to me. I agree with savin about the schedule. I am open to anytime." Trace stands to listen to the others.
Shiraz Wednesday October 30th, 2002 9:55:39 AM
Shiraz smiles at Savin,"I hate schedules," the minotaur laughs out loud, "my mother couldn't even get me up for school and chores without a bugle and a bucket of cold water." Shiraz looks thoughful,"I will take the sleeping hours while we are here."
A Peaceful Time (DM Cayzle) Wednesday October 30th, 2002 10:24:12 AM
The Aelderman takes command of the beserk townsman, who looks very dazed by events. Gwinchin urges amnesty, because sometimes the woldsblood affects those who are sensitive.
After hearing that you will stay a couple weeks, the gnomes are very grateful for your help.
"I'm sorry, friend Sly," Gwinchin says, "but we repair only objects, not hearts! But I suspect that the best way to fix your heart is to find your loved ones!"
He nods to Shiraz, and seems a little embarrassed by Sir Thomas. "Do not kneel, good knight. All are equal in the service of Alemi and Domi."
The Aelderman, hearing Shiraz's question, offers to put everyone up at the inn, as its only sleeping guests.
The gnomes say they do not need round-the-clock guards -- they just want a few people nearby when they are using the sacred Blood of the Wold, since that is the time of greatest danger.
All agree.
========== ========== ==========
Over the next two weeks, the gnomes work hard to fix the gates and other damage done to the town. Seeing their diligence, the residents of Heranmar begin to come around, and by the end of the two weeks, the main job of the Southern Lights is to keep admirers and gawkers at a safe distance. There are a few folk who seem put out, but they tend to keep to themselves and mutter in allies and in private.
It is during this time that an old friend returns -- Jurgen, a young mage.
Please feel free to post any plans or activities you wish to pursue during this time. All deliveries from the Catacombs also arrive now. Have you folks considered the Catacombs offer of a discount made on group or party items bought at this time?
I will be mailing out xp today. If you want to nominate anyone for roleplay awards or hero points, please e-mail me right away.
Message for Ted (DM Cayzle) Wednesday October 30th, 2002 4:15:14 PM
Ted, I sent you some e-mail, but your mailbox is full, and it bounced back. I wanted to give you xp and ask you for an updated PC sheet. Your xp total is now 21,650 xp. Trace has gone up a level. Please write me at cayzle@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Sly work hard doing the lifting, logging and digging. In the day time when the sun is shining Sly takes his shirt off (showing his muscles to the maidens in the village). But every four hours Sly takes a lunch brake, if you listen very carefully YOU can hear Sly's stomach rumble.
A few days later there's a stranger traveling this way. He does look familiar. Wonder who it is???

Equipment (DM Cayzle) Thursday October 31st, 2002 9:09:48 AM
During these two weeks at Heranmar, there is time to think about all the treasure the party has gained.
=========================
OOC: You guys might want to think about dividing things up. Some things were recently gained -- put them on your PC sheet now or forever lose them!
Shiraz and Ilsidur will be back soon from the Catacombs with the results of their identifies. And for the record, the current Group Pot, carried mostly by Thomas, is:
· Milky potion that stirs itself clockwise - gaseous form
· 5 cut emeralds of roughly the same size
· deck of Trump Cards, mostly blank, magical - Ilsidur
· Chloe's 2 magical gem-keys: warehouse & shop - Sir Thomas
· Bracers of Armor +1
· Brooch of shielding 30 charges
· Full potion of moderate healing +3
· unidentified magical Wand of Isabel's (Threshold House of Mirth) - Ilsidur just identified it.
· Small masterwork spiked metal shield - Oblong shaped, and the spikes so well crafted and integrated that they act as a masterwork weapon for bashing.
· Items stored in a warehouse in Hook City -- are they still there now? Unknown.
ALSO note that the Catacombs is offering a discount if you want to buy a group items or a set of identical items, one per PC. If nobody wants the items in the group pot, maybe you can trade them in at the Catacombs. Just a thought.
Savin Thursday October 31st, 2002 10:19:17 AM
Savin can be seen every morning and again at evenings performing some dance like moves involving many kicks, punches and blocks. He will also be seen running very quickly from here to there and back again.
He will follow the gnomes around and assure that they can work in peace and is very pleased as they are more and more accepted by the community.
In various conversations with him during meals, The Southern Lights will learn that he was either abandoned or orphaned when he was only an infant. He was given into the care of the Bali Order. This sect of monks is devoted to works of good and healing. Though they possess no magical abilities, they have learned to defend themselves and others through the development of there inner power. Savin was released as a journeyman monk and told to go help others, fight evil, and develop his inner chi. He has been doing so for several years, until he died and was reborn and summoned here.
Sir Thomas Thursday October 31st, 2002 11:57:02 AM
Thomas spends his time gurading the gnomes on his "shift" and helping them during the time when he is not on his "shift". He takes some time also to check his backpack, belts, clothes, boots, weapons, armor, and any other items he possesses for wear. He takes time to replace the items that are worn or fix the items that can be fixed. He also takes some time to talk to his friends and be friendly and have conversations.
Shiraz Thursday October 31st, 2002 5:46:34 PM
Shiraz takes the time to learn about Savin, and often in the mornings can be seen watching the young man practice his skills. Shiraz then spends opposite evening doing the same. Checking over his goods Shiraz reports back to the group what he found about the Orcish axe<both heads are +1>, and asks if anyone minds if he uses it to upgrade some of his items.
Sir Thomas Friday November 1st, 2002 10:56:19 AM
"Use the axe big guy. I would like to use the masterwork shield with spikes for bashing. I think someone should take the potions, bracers and brooch. There's no need to let them sit idle. Whoever takes them will hear no argument from me. I think Ilsidur should use the wand and the deck since they are already in his possession and he identified the wand. So, somebody take some stuff off of the group's hands. It'll just benefit us anyway."
Bad Dreams (DM Cayzle) Friday November 1st, 2002 11:17:19 AM
As the two weeks draw to a close, the Southern Lights do not sleep well. They begin to have bad dreams.
In nightmares, the Southern Continent idisappearing into the Shadow lands, the lands of the Void. You see images of the five old Crones and then images of new, younger Crones with instruments of self mutilation.
In the latest of dreams, all goes up in flames while a winged reptilian shape intermingles with the fire. Then laughter!!
You compare notes and wonder what it means.
====================
[Folks, this is, alas, my last post as DM. You've been great. Stephen will be starting a new module on Monday. I hope to finalize all PC sheets this weekend -- PLEASE e-mail me if you take possession of an item. Thanks for a fun time -- and say hi to Zeoll when you bump into him in the Wold. -- DM Cayzle.]
Sly Foxx and Luke Friday November 1st, 2002 2:30:32 PM
"Yes, Sir. I agree with you all those items are too much for Ilsidur. I will take The potions (Healing+3 and Milky potion [Gaseous Form], the Bracers of Armor+1, and the Brooch of Shield (30 charges). That should help the little fella."
"I've been working very hard these past two week, because I have been having some bad dreams and they are all about the same thing. Tell me have you been having bad dreams too?" wonders Sky as he feed Luke.
Savin Friday November 1st, 2002 3:44:19 PM
Savin is also having bad dreams and when he hears the others discussing them, he will add, "I too have been sharing these disturbing dreams. I found it strange to be having them. I wonder if someone is trying to tell us something. Do these tatoos bring bad dreams or allow us to see some part of the future? My dreams were never disturbed before."
Ilsidur Friday November 1st, 2002 11:12:29 PM
Ilsidur frowns at Sly. "Well, that is fairly selfish of you, Sly. You have claimed all of the magic items. Do you really think that is fair? The three wands that I identified were a wand of hold person, a wand of ray of enfeeblement, and a wand of cure serious wounds. Do you want to claim those as well, Sly? I assure you that I can carry the potions, the bracers, and the brooch just as well as you can. Can I suggest that at least Trace and Sir Thomas should probably have a claim for some of these items as well. Perhaps our unarmoured friend here (pointing at Savin) could make better use of the bracers?"
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+1=20 Saturday November 2nd, 2002 8:17:41 AM
Now Sly feel guilty, so Sly will sit down in front of Ilsidur so he can see him eye to eye. "Ilsidur, my friend, pleased don't be mad. I'll tell you what I'll take what ever you think is fair, because you know I'm a brat, I jump before I think, I have many bad habits, BUT selfish is not one of then. Now friend Ilsedur what do you think I can carry for you."
OOC: Sly rolling for Charisma
Sir Thomas Saturday November 2nd, 2002 11:08:07 PM
Thomas rolls his eyes. "Ok, Sly, you can't have everything," then looking to Ilsidur, "but I don't know that we need to fight. I don't stake a claim in any of those items. I probably won't use them since I have healing provided by Domi, I have armor (+1), and I have no desire to become gaseous form. Therefore, the rest of you can divide those items but I'm taking them off of my inventory list. I am also removing all of the items that we removed from the dead mage and his friends (since they were taken by the town and redistributed to us by the aelderman), save the mace and the foghorn that were given me by the Aelderman." Thomas takes out a ratty piece of parchment from his backpack and uses his finger to create more wear. He pokes holes to remove the parts of the list he just named from his 'inventory list'. He then browses through it and remarks. "Let's also keep in mind that we have a pouch, a mace, a dagger, and a bottle from Raven's obelisk that are magical. We have yet to determine the magic they possess. We also possess a lot of chits, almost 4,000gp, 5 cut emeralds of undetermined worth, and 3 gems worth 300gp each. Do we want to identify these four items or possibly take advantage of the 10% discount in the catacombs? We are almost out of time to do that, and it seems silly to pass on such a great opportunity. Would anyone be opposed to me removing this masterwork shield with spikes for bashing from the list? I'd like to use it. Lastly, we still have these magical badges of Voids and Bears, the 452 badges, from Hook City. I say we donate them to Heranmar. Maybe they can distribute them to the local guard to help in the defense of the town."
Clay Saturday November 2nd, 2002 11:11:09 PM
[OOC: The changes in the inventory list have been made, so write down what you have, and somebody please claim one or two of the four items up for grabs. Shiraz and Savin should jump on this too for all I care. They're as much a part of the group as Sly, Trace, Ilsidur, and I. I think someone should go to the Catacombs, but it can't be me because I simply don't have the extra time for that right now. I've listed what we have for money, so I vote that someone at least go see what's in there.]
Sly Foxx and Luke Sunday November 3rd, 2002 2:13:23 PM
"But Sir Thomas, I was not fighting with Ilsidur, But give me the list and I'll go to have them identified. I'll sell what we don't want. And if Ilsidur wants to he can come with me. So I won't get cheated. Is there anything we can donate to the Monks?"
Trace and Radiant Sunday November 3rd, 2002 10:42:41 PM
Trace walks up to Sly, "Here Little brother, would you mind identyfing this studed leather I recived. If no one claims the bracers I will take them but only after everyone else has denied them. As far as the money goes? I am not sure what we can buy other than healing. See how much potions of flying cost since that allways seems to come in hand. Also see if we can buy some sort of potion that resist fire, I have been having horrible dreams with fire.
Jurgen and Vus Monday November 4th, 2002 12:48:46 AM
In time with the nightmares of fire covered reptilian beasts, Jurgen reaches Heranmar. He has had a small adventure, or two, bringing with him a new companion with which to fight. After asking a few people, Jurgen seeks out where the Southern Lights adventurers are staying.
He finds them conversing of items they have found, perhaps not so much conversing. Bickering sounded like the right word. Then again, Jurgen couldn't judge. He was quite the annoyance at times...
Jurgen walks in, a dog following right behind. It has a thick coat of yellow fur and patches of brown. More like a wolf, then a dog, but the way it held itself set it apart. The curious sniffing, the joy-happy tail and the strange grin... All signs of a dog.
At the sight of the group, Jurgen runs towards them with Vus, his "Blinkin' Hound" following closely. The boy smiles and looks over the group. It had been but a week or so, but it felt like an eternity. Oh how good it was to be back.
"Hiya everyone! I'm back. I got rid of... Well, I'm back anyway." He isn't quite the same Jurgen as he left off as. His face is more chiseled, the innocence that may have been there before, gone. His hair cut, not even enough to have a small version of his previous pony-tail. His clothes are clean, washed, and cut at the arms to show his muscles. He tries to flex them, but isn't extremely impressive.
He grabs a chair and sits down, Vus curling around and plopping down at his feet. He disappears and reappears, continually, then closes his eyes and shows up.
"Guys! This is Vus! He's my familiar! He's so awesome! He can flicker and unflicker and take me places!" His eyes light up as he speaks, and then he stops... seeing the group talking about magic items.
Ilsidur (Cayzle subbing) Monday November 4th, 2002 8:06:11 AM
Ilsidur agrees with Trace. "I too have had dreams of fire. Some fire resistance items for the group would be a good way to take advantage of the sale at the Catacombs."
"Shiraz or Sly, why don't one of you take the unclaimed treasure that Thomas listed -- 4,000 gp, 5 cut emeralds of undetermined worth, and 3 gems worth 300 gp each -- and go shopping for the group. Maybe get the same thing for everybody, like potions, or maybe a wand of fire resistance? Remember to ask for the discount!"
[OOC: Hi friends! While Greg is away on vacation this week, I volunteered to sub for him. Hah! You have not seen the last of Cayzle yet!]
Shiraz Monday November 4th, 2002 8:36:25 PM
Shiraz looks at his friends and smiles, "I wouldnt even know where to begin to shop for us all I am going to however try and upgrade my armor a bit, these dreams have me worried and I want to be as protected as I can."
Savin Monday November 4th, 2002 10:38:11 PM
Savin is quiet as the group discusses the magic treasure. He will introduce himself to the mage and greet him warmly.
Sir Thomas Monday November 4th, 2002 11:37:22 PM
"Actually, monetary amount of our holdsing is 120pp, 3887gp, 108sp, and 5cp. Welcome back Jurgen. And welcome to the roup Vus. you look good with your new style"
