Hissy Fit!!! (DM Stephen)  d100=100 d6=5 very very very good.
Tuesday December 3rd, 2002 1:09:11 AM

"Foolish foolish pride," naggs Megan. "Stop this childish bickering!! You belittle this great cause by prancing around, showing your feathers for all to see. We dont have time for all this male fluffery. So leave your egos at the door!!" In her rage, the other women winse and slightly shrink from her words. "My Gods, is THIS the best we can find, I just ...." she suddenly stops and turns around, with hand to forehead, she tries to collect her wits.

Megan turns back around the puts her hand on Lauren's shoulder. Lauren then takes the dominate position and begins to speak. "Please forgive me for my harsh words. Frustration and stress wears away the already thin vale of my sanity. Just let me remind you that we picked you for your honor and your goodness. Each of you bring something unique to this cause. Each of you is a vital person in this quest. For that reason alone, can we all, please, put what ills we have aside and work together. You will need to if you will have any chance of survival.

Back at the Catacombs, the clerk puts down his book and swallows the last of his tea. He then stands to the counter and states, now serving customer 2! As you notice, 2 is the next number on the tile dispenser. No other customer is there.

(Still searching what those items are. Will find out ASAP. Party's Initiative.)

Sir Thomas
Tuesday December 3rd, 2002 2:21:18 AM

Thomas can't help but notice the hypocracy in Megan's voice as she shows her "feathers" to be bright as any of the males involved in the bickering. He decides for the sake of diplomacy and to move on to let it go. Too bad he didn't get his two cents in while the getting was good.

"Well friends, there is more to our debate I'm sure, but the sisters are right. We have to get over it. I think it is a reasonable concern that we hold though. Without trying to bring up the debate again, I want to point out that we, the Southern Lights, definately need Alfric, but we are concerned about his reliability. I definately don't want to be counting on anyone and then find that support to not be there when I need it. I think that's our concern more than honor at this point with the challenge of Tumult looming over us.

"On the subject of planning. I am a paladin of Domi, the god of war. I am obviously a fighter, but in our dream I had some difficulty getting my sword to penetrate the dragon's scales. I will have Pryte with me. He is faithful and would be glad to lay his life down for such a cause as this ... if it calls for that of course. I have only two spells at my call, but I can adjust those into something more useful than what I've prepared for today. Once per day I can call upon the power of Domi to assist my blade in its cleaving ability, but that will not be a huge deficit to Tumult's vast strength. As far as squaring off with the gigantic beast toe to toe, I will be that diversion. I will require some anti-fire protection if that is to be the case. Pryte can get me very close to the beast in a hurry. I wander if I had a lance if it would assist me in hurting Tumult more. I can charge and that would assist in my ability to hurt him. I will not charge if Pryte does not also have fire protection though. I really feel that I have limited ability to help this cause because I don't have powerful magic, nor powerfully enchanted weapons to help me hit or penetrate the dragon's scales. I will do my best though."

Sly Foxx and Luke
Tuesday December 3rd, 2002 4:13:55 AM

Sly sits on the floor looking through the box of potions and wands. "This is a start, at least I have my magic rod and I'll use every charge in it if need be." Then looks at the Sisters, "If you have faith in me, I'll do my very best."

Shiraz
Tuesday December 3rd, 2002 7:24:10 PM

The taur looks at the sisters and laughs,"My dam used to sound much like that when my brothers and I would fight over the toys in the yard." Shiraz turns to Alfric, "Well what say you?"

Battle Plans and Butterfly Kisses!! (DM Stephen)  d20+8=22 d20+12=21 d20+9=16 d20+5=22 d20+5=15 d20+5=19 d20+5=6 d20+5=13

Lauren sighs at the words of Sly with a warm smile. The rest of the maidens, except Megan (who is still trying to calm down), reflect the same smile, "My dear Sly, we have faith in you." Each one dances over to Sly and tickles him lightly with little kisses on his cheeks.

More collected of her senses Megan turns around. She turns to Sir Thomas and walks over to the map. "Your steed may be quite useful on the trip there but as you can see on the map, the dragons lair rests deep into the side of a mountain." She points to the cave entrance. "It is a dragon lair after all, you may be forced to do some climbing. Would you be willing to lower a large warhorse down the side of a cliff or expansive drop. Of course there would be sufficient room for the Tumult's treasure but it is not known what it will take to get to that point."

Penelope and Heather (two maidens) suddenly turn their heads to the east wall, as if they heard something. Megan continues to talk. "We have talked about the Tumult's strengths ... what about his weaknesses. There must be something we can exploit!"
(Everyone in the room make a Listen check DC 15.)
------------------
Back at the Catacombs ...
"Well I assume you want these items identified. Let me take them to the back and have our mage look at them," says the clerk. And he does just that. The room is very quiet. Not much activity.

Jurgen and Vus  d20-1=6 d20+8=20
Wednesday December 4th, 2002 1:47:34 AM

Jurgen watches the crones with interest, but begins to work his mind to its fullest.

[Jurgen's Listen Check: Failure with a 6]

[Vus's Listen Check: Success with a 20]

If they didn't stop Tumalt, then the Southern Lights and the Children of Chaos would be no more. That wasn't something Jurgen was up for particuarly...

"First of all, the Dragon seems to have a large amount of trouble with Sound attacks. The crones kept screaming at him, more or less, and each time it hurt him. So we need items that are loud. Now, amazingly, Thunderstones could be made avaiable. [You can check the exact definition later, but they cost 30 gp and they create a sonic attack...] Unfortunately, they are easy to just throw off. So their right out of the door, unless we could get them right in his ears. Imagine have one of those crones scream in your ear, echoing off all the walls. That's the effect I'm hoping for. A huge problem with that is getting into the ear. What it would mean was, we need disractions. We need people who can take his attention while other people, with fly cast on them [either by Jurgen or Alfric. It seems we've both got them. Although it seems sounder that Jurgen does, as he has to cast it anyway], get into his ears. This probably wouldn't do damage, but it would make him deaf. Making it possible for some of his spells cast to fail. That's definately a bonus. [Also, a Horn of Blasting could be useful for that... I don't know. Really stretching our cash might be able to pull it...]"

He starts muttering to himself, then wipes his eyes and forehead. Tears and sweat... Would it soon be blood too? Had Jurgen ever faced something as horrid as a dragon? Had Jurgen ever known that he was probably going to die? No, on both counts... But then again, had Jurgen known the costs of becoming a brave hero? Yes... So if he had to die, then so be it... Although it really wouldn't be fun.

"Another idea, although this one seems like a sure death... I still has a few leftover Feather Tokens, of the tree variaty. Imagine a tree sprouting from inside Tummy's belly... Kind of a messy sight, but it gets the job done. So someone would have to be eaten by him. There are two ways of doing this. Either by having the strongest person in there, although that was lessen their ability in a fight to stay alive as either a distraction or an attack. The other way is to have the weakest. Which would, almost definately be me [25 hp go in and pray... Throw down four of those tree tokens and whatever else I could get in there. There is a chance that I would survive, but it seems slim... Unless I could be outfitted with some sort of protection against acid [hopefully that would lessen the damage of the digestive acids... Stephen?]. In Vus, here, was willing to Dimension Door me into Tummy's tummy then I could pull it off easier... And I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.[Quoting the great Winston Churchill... Or not so great. I'm really unsure]"

He smiles meekly, he was talking about near suicide... He might not have a single chance while inside Tumalt's stomach, but that wouldn't make him give up. Jurgen would fight and fight, until the very last bit of his life was drawn out of him. 'Anybody is able to die for a cause... But only the strongest were willing to live for it'

"Now to disable the "Fire Breath" would be an AMAZING advantage over this dragon. Unfortunately, how many ways can you stop him from doing this? Well... Water might be a way. If we could get our hands on a Decanter of Endless Water, we could find a way to get it into his mouth [use this along side of the jump into the stomach idea?]. He'd could breath fire, but he could also spray out water at 30 gallons a round. That might be a way to go about it. Honestly, though, I'm unsure if that would work. Also, it's a lot of putting all our eggs in one basket. 9,000 gold on that... Unless someones got some extra cash kicking around that they could donate... Almost everything I have is too cheap to be of use. Although, when it comes down to the wire, that bit of cash may be exactly what's needed.

And... He lives in a Volcano. Is there any way we could use that to our advantage? Pushing him in seems pointless..."

Jurgen's finger is slowly rotating around the volcano on the map, as if the battle was going on in his head and his finger was the dragon, circling prey.

"If we could find a way to bring the Dragon out of the Volcano, we wouldn't be fighting on his terms anymore. Regardless of what we do to plan, if we're in the Volcano, he's got an advantage.

Finally, I've been thinking a lot about tricking him. Dragons love treasure, right? Well, why not make him think you can get large amounts of treasure to him. One of us goes in, does this, while the rest of the group prepares to ambush him. In the end, this may be the best way to get the jump on him..."

He looks to the group, a grin on his face... Lots of plans in his head, although he didn't know if any would work...

Sly Foxx and Luke
Wednesday December 4th, 2002 10:18:31 AM

Sly face blushes over the fuss the Maidens, not moving them away either. But as best he can, he'll answers Jurden question. "The weakness of a Red Dragon depends on their age, but all the Red ones are mostly can be damage by cold, snow, ice anything that freezes. Also if someone could cast a Silent Spell on his mouth would help a lot."

Trace and Radiant
Wednesday December 4th, 2002 12:55:47 PM

While Trace waits for these items identified, Pouch, bottle, mace, dagger (all magical), he lays out the items he needs to sell, "12 Silver arrows - 3 (+2) Arrows - 1 Scroll case/a scroll of shield - 4 Moon Stones (50GP each) , 4 smokesticks, and 3 bottles of Alchemists fire from Raven's obelisk, +1 longsword with blue pommel that can hold a cure light wounds spell, +1 studded leather armor.

I need prices for potions of haste, flying, fire resistance, also a weapons list of cold damage or dragon bane. I also need a price on how much to enchant my keen sword with cold damage. Then last time I checked it was 1000gp to add an enchantment. Also do you have any rings or amulets that might benifit me or my friends in our fight against a red dragon?

Shiraz  d20=11
Wednesday December 4th, 2002 8:42:00 PM

Shiraz looks at the crones and tilts his head and shakes it. "I have 1000 gold pieces left what do we do with it is the question?"

Savin
Wednesday December 4th, 2002 10:32:58 PM

Savin is thinking and says to trace, "We need things that would definitely hit the beast. I know it is a basic spell, but how about magic missile. They won't miss and if we get some scrolls, it will give our mages something to do when their more powerful spells get used. Shouldn't cost to much and they are reliable. I also think we need to think about the dragon's allies. In our visions we saw lot of undead. We might be fighting the dragon's minions before we get to him. Most evil leaders sacrifice their shock troops, before they come out and play. We need to be prepared for this."

Sir Thomas
Wednesday December 4th, 2002 10:41:05 PM

"Wow, you have a lot of great suggestions Jurgen. I wonder about the feasability of some of them though. Being eaten will probably get that individual killed before they got to the stomach ... chewing.

"Even if we can silence the dragon, would he have the ability to cast spells without using verbal componentry?

"I'm most concerned about drawing the dragon out. If we can keep him confined I think we have the best chance. If we can find a passage in the mountain that will restrict his movement, I think we'll have the best chance against him. I understand he'll probably have multiple magical traps set up to protect his home, but we'll have to risk those anyway when we go in. I think to let him out into the open will be a mistake ... although I do like the idea of tricking him into coming to a spot designated by us. That way we can prepare for him before we see him.

"How heavy are those feather tokens? If someone got close enough to his mouth, just before the dragon tried to bite them they could throw it in. maybe ... doesn't sound like it has a high rate of survival or success though.

"I'm at a loss. I'm also concerned that our weapons are going to be like pinpricks to the beast. Can anyone cast a semi-permanent cold enchantment on my blade before or early in the fight? I wonder if I have that ability in my limited casting cache. I'll have to think ..."

Ilsidur  d20+4=22
Thursday December 5th, 2002 12:08:13 AM

[OOC: listen roll successful with 22]

Ilsidur adds a couple of points to the conversation. "It seems to me the three key things that resulted in our 'defeat' are: first, the incredibly brutal breath weapon that the dragon was able to use, and to hit all of us with consistently, at will. Second, the dragon could fly, and focus his breath weapon to catch all of us, and stay out of reach, and the only one of us who could fly was high-tailing it away from the battle. Third, we were not able to cause any significant damage to the creature, except for the cold attack that Sly was able to use. Could any of you mages identify the spell that the dragon cloaked itself in that had the flame effect?" [OOC: try your Spellcraft rolls.]

He turns to the ladies, and asks, "What was that voice attack you used on the dragon? How did it work? Is there something similar, a spell or magic item, that we could use to the same effect?"

Sounds like a deal!! (DM Stephen)  d100=8 d6=2 d20+8=20 d20+12=15 d20+9=15
Thursday December 5th, 2002 1:42:58 AM

Lauren speaks, "There are several types of energy that can be used. Fire would be entirely useless against Tumult, that is plain to see. Cold is his opposing energy type of Fire. Tumult would be very sensative to it, as Sly demonstrated." She blows Sly another kiss and a wink! "The energy we employed is the SONIC energy of sound. We can produce a scream that can pummel opponents. Sonic energy is mostly overlooked and isnt protected against. However spells like Resist Elements and Protection from Elements can also be used against Sonic attacks. It is simply a choice when the spell is cast."

(anyone who made their listen check heard a squeeking noise against the floor near the east wall. However you see nothing. Then you hear an oh so slight thud!!)

Penelope and Heather say in unison, "What was that??!!" The rest of the maidens turn their heads in the same direction.

(Everyone make a Listen check 15 again)

You can feel a sudden tension in the air. The hair on the back of your neck begins to stand on end. Your tattoos begin to tingle!!
--------------------
Back at the Catacombs::
The clerk's eyes open wide. "Ahhh a DRAGON, and a RED one at that!! That is rather fool-hardy son. Well we here at the Catacombs have just about everything that can help you with a dragon. Potions of Haste and Protection from Elements (fire) would be essential. Especially PFE (fire) potions made by powerful spellcasters. Of course, they are more pricey." (example: a Protection from Elements (fire) made by a 10th level caster will protect you from 120 hitpoints of fire damage.) "However....I can make you a deal since you are fighting a dragon. We have a druid who makes potions for us. He makes high level Protection from Elements potions, but he is known to use spell components of lesser quality. The potions are guaranteed to work ... they they are just prone to have strange side-effects. We can sell you these potent potions at half price. Think about it a little bit while I takes these items out back for indentification."

(Party's Initaitve. We need to be on our way by not later than next Monday. A dragon awaits.) :)

Luke (18)nose points east and his back hairs go strait up, as he growls.

Jurgen and Vus  d20-1=18 d20+8=28
Thursday December 5th, 2002 7:24:42 PM

Jurgen intently listens to the maidens, but Vus seems to hear something at the east wall. Jurgen stops to listen, his eyes focused to where Vus is looking.

[Jurgen Listen Check: Success with an 18]

[Vus' Listen Check: Critical Success with a 28]

Jurgen notes the thud and the squeek, pulling out his dagger. He turns to Vus, speaking to him plainly and simply... But it's a strange language, that only a master and familiar share [Speak with Master, just so I don't sound like I'm telling you what your characters can or can't understand].

"Sniff around, Vus, see if you can smell them..."

[Blink Dog's ability of Scent.]

The large dog puts his nose to the ground, making loud sniffing noises. He keeps moving his head back and forth, trying to pinpoint the exact location.

Shiraz  d20=10
Thursday December 5th, 2002 9:26:25 PM

Shiraz doesnt even hear the noise as the rest of the party turns to listen," I agree Ilsidur, with your ideas, but the question is how to implement it when the time comes. I would rather not be turned into a side of beef, well done as we battle a dragon."

Sir Thomas  d20=8
Friday December 6th, 2002 12:13:44 AM

[Rolled 8 + 2 WIS = 10 Listen check]

Thomas looks at the group with a strange look, "what are you guys talking about? Sit down and let's finish this discussion. We really need to decide on our plan of attack. I mean, we already have such a limited chance of success, if we don't go in with a plan we take that chance with us too."

Returning to the discussion, "I think our best bet is if we all have cold based attacks, although if we put all of our eggs in that basket, can't he cast a spell that negates or diminishes the effects of cold-based attacks? I also think protection from fire will keep us alive long enough to make a difference to the beast. I also think we should designate someone to try to break through Tumult's defenses and recover the amulet while the rest of us risk it all to keep him occupied. Who's the fastest? Who can detect secret doors and/or traps? They should be able to dispell magic, I think. What about scrolls for that? I mean, if we all die except he who escapes with the maidens magical ... gem or whatever it is, we still win despite loosing. It's worth my life to me to win in that way.

"Maidens, I think you should be very close at hand for the delivery of the artifact if you are not fighting with us. Will you fight with us? Are there others that might join in this fight?"

Ilsidur  d20+4=15
Friday December 6th, 2002 12:49:59 AM

[OOC: Just made the listen check with 15.]

Ilsidur grabs a nearby flask/goblet/stein of liquid, and sprays it in the direction of the noises, trying to figure out by the spray pattern if someone or something invisible is present in the room. If he figures that is the case, he will cast dispell magic to try to cover the area where the invisible thing is located.

Friday December 6th, 2002 1:35:40 AM

Vus and Luke sniff the air and begin to growl. They both hunker down and slowly start to advance on the location where the sound was heard. They snap, bark and growl.

Those who made their listen check hear a whispering hissing voice say a word in draconic..."idiot!!"

Suddenly a small reptilian figure pops into view (he was invisible). It is a Kobold!! It draws a nasty looking dagger and stabs at the air next to him. In draconic, "Take that you idiot for giving away our presenccce." Another reptilian critter appears bloody and dying next him. The one with the dagger then grabs his bloodied companion and screams (in draconic), "Here doggies ... munch on thiss!!" He throws the creature towards the dogs and it slumps lifeless to the floor in front of them. "Ok guysss, let them have ittt!!" After saying that it makes a mad dash for the door. He gets to the entrance at the end of his turn and looks to be preparing to make a run for it.

Suddenly two bolts fly at Sly out of nowhere. (Sly loses Dex bonus to AC due to attacker being invisible. Sly's new AC is 19.
Hit AC: 26 hit for 1 damage
Sneak Attack: 12 damage
Hit AC: 12 miss
------------------
total: 13 damage to Sly)

After the bolts are fired a roguish-looking kobold appears. He too makes a mad dash for the door. But he turns to face the rest of you. He prepares to cover the others escape.

Another voice starts to speak with draconic words but it sounds like a spell is being cast. Another kobold appears with its hands spread out in front of him. A spray of vivid colors shoots out from his hands and blasts into everyone. (Everyone make a Will Save DC 16 or be stunned for 1 round.) After casting the spell, the 4th kobold then runs for the door. The rogue with the crossbow prepares to load another bolt. The bloodied kobold continues to lie on the floor. He appears dead but continues to bleed.

[Stephen, I'm sending you a character sheet that is updated... Because I've fixed a problem with Will saves for both Jurgen and Vus]

Jurgen, although somewhat amazed at the fact that kobolds are abroad, isn't phased by the magic colors. They sparkle in front of his eyes, like a material rainbow. His eyes linger over it for just a moment, before he realizes he needs to stop the other kobolds.

[Jurgen's Will Save: Success with a 21[Vus gives Jurgen another +2 to Will saves, but I forgot to include that on my Saving Throw chart]

[Vus' Will Save: Success with a 20
[Vus uses his save unless mine is better. So my base save is +5, and then we add his Iron will save, another +2]]

"Make sure that the dying one stays alive! We can get information!"

He hopes one of his friends will try and help the kobold. With his dagger pointed behind him, Jurgen runs towards Vus. But the dog's eyes seem to be on the bloody kobold, transfixed by the fresh meat.

[Speak with Master]"Right outside the door. We'll block them. You can eat the kobold later!"

Jurgen's hand reachs Vus and then the same white wall that opened up on Jurgen's arrival, opens again. The boy and his dog jump through, appearing on the far side of the exit that the kobolds are going for.

[Blink Dog Ability: Dimension Door: The other side of the door where the kobold is located]

Vus begins to disappear and reappear quickly, showing how a Blink Dog doesn't get hit. The dog then waits to jump and bite whoever comes through that door. In the meantime, Jurgen stands ready to throw his dagger.

[Blink Dog Ability: Blink: Duration - Unlimited: Free Action]

[Jurgen's Readied Action: Throw dagger at the first Kobold that comes out of that door: Hit on AC 21 - 6 damage]

[Vus' Readied Action: Bite the first Kobold that comes out of that door: Hit on AC 12 - 6 damage]

[I don't know if you roll for readied actions when you make them, or not, so I just did. If I'm not supposed you, we can void those rolls. Feel free to cut my post off wherever you want, I'm unsure if I used the whole round or not]

Nasty Kobold Spies (DM Stephen)  d20+6=13 d100=37 d6=4
Tuesday December 10th, 2002 2:39:45 AM

Sly spins around from the attack and slices into the kobold sorceror cutting it into three pieces. It splashes down into a puddle of its own blood.

Ilsildur's spell halts the kobold commander in his tracks. Strange enough, after freezing in place, he disappears!!

Luke and Sir Thomas rip the kobold rogue to shreds. It slumps lifeless. Luke contines to viciously shake the kobold like a limp rag doll.

Jurgen and Vus "dimension door" through the wall. Vus prepares to attack whatever comes out the door. Although Jurgen can not react. You feel disoriented from the trip through the shadows. (You can do nothing else until your next turn. Vus can act normally because the act of "dimension dooring" is natural to him.) However, nothing appears to exit the door.

The kobold that was stabbed continues to lie on the floor bleeding.

(party's initiative)

Sly Foxx and Luke
Tuesday December 10th, 2002 4:10:06 AM

Sly put his hand on the wound he had received and Yells at Luke, "Luke! Stop! Get my backpack, I'm hurt." Then takes a +1 dagger from his boot and turns to the badly, wounded Kobold kneel down on one knee and whispers to him 'Now my little enemy, are you going to answer our questions? Then I'll give you a potion of healing, OR are you going to keep silent? In that case I'll drink the potion myself.' And Sly gives the Kobold a big grin.

Luke not wanting to let go, but Sly ask his to stop. Luke let's go of the body and goes to the backpack and drags it to Sly. Then sits and waits for a pat on the head.

Shiraz
Tuesday December 10th, 2002 9:25:34 AM

Shiraz looks around unstunned,"I hate that." he grumbles looking around at all of the dead bodies.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday December 10th, 2002 12:08:16 PM

Still in battle mode, Thomas starts offering helpful advice that could easily be taken for commands. "Somebody look for that disappearing bard of a kobold. Sly, don't waste a potion of helaing on that vermin. I have magical healing that will return tommorrow. We really need to save what we cannot replenish." Thomas then walks over to the dying kobold and pins him to the ground with his hands behind his back. Thomas asks Domi for the power to save the kobold's life. "May Domi's grace heal your wound." (Lay on hands 5 hp)

Thomas waits for the kobold to show signs of improvement and consciousness.

[OOC: Thanks for not being generous. ;-) We're a lucky group of kids!]

Trace and Radiant
Tuesday December 10th, 2002 2:31:08 PM

Trace smiles big and sells all except for the mace of icy burst. The gold should come out to 23,990 gp. Trace then pulls out his +1 sword with keen ability and ask how much for it. If the price is at least 2400 or better then he will sell it and aquire a +1 sword with frost ability.

Now time for shopping,
(1)+1 Long sword with frost ability $8000
(4)potions -protection from elements cl10 $6000
(5)potions -flying $3750

leaves 6,240 gp
"We also need prices for scrolls for magic missel
and prices for cure wounds potions. (all levels). I will be back for the scrolls and cure wounds potions in a minute. I need to take this back to my friends. " Trace makes his way back to the inn and walks in on the disaster seeing Sir Thomas healing some creature. "See, I leave yall by yourselves for 2 minutes and you tear up the place." Trace steps over one of the bodies and heads for a table to lay down the goodies. Trace then hands the +1 mace of icy burst to Ilsidur and repeats the details fo the mace. He then shows what he has bought so far and shows off his new sword. We still have just over 6,000 gp left plus the group account and the worth of all the gems that Sir Thomas carries. I need suggestions on what to get next. I have requested prices for scrolls of magic missle and healing potions. I wanted to bring this back and get some more ideas. Sir Thomas, when you get a chance, can you tally our total gp adding this 6,240 to the total. I also have 400 gp in my pack if needed to buy something as well as there were others that said they have gold to add to the pot. Does any one need me to buy them something on the next trip. Speak up, now is the time. This is what I will use, I will have my +1 frost longsword, drink a fly potion, drink a resist elements potion, and have a cure serious wounds potion on me. As far as I see it. I am all set for the trip. Also dont forget what Sly has bought as well. Also we need to think about some sort of savings for the cost of bringing someone back alive or do you think the treasures alone will pay the bill?" Trace looks at a near by bench and strikes it casually with his new sword to see what the frost damage would do.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday December 10th, 2002 8:32:13 PM

"I'll get on that tally, but help me sort this out. You sold those magical items that we had and only spent money from that on these potions and that sword, correct? Wow, those were powerful magics. And we have all of the money that we pooled? Let me wisper what I think to you all in the corner. Anyone got rope?" Thomas uses the rope to tie the kobold up and joins his friends in the corner.

"As far as what to buy next, it seems to me that Shiraz and myself still need weapons with
cold alities if we are to have any effect on the dragon during the fight. I prefer a bastard sword, but I'll use polearms other types of swords, maces, lances, anything really. It seems to me that we have fulfilled our need for protection from the fire with these 11 potions. That's almost enough for us to each have 2. I think our mages need wands or scrolls with cold or lightning or powerful stunning abilities.

"About saving money to raise our fallen friends. I think any treasure we recover from the dragon's lair will cover that, let's spend all we have now in preparation.

Jurgen [Disoriented] and Vus
Tuesday December 10th, 2002 9:36:05 PM

Jurgen, although ready to kick some Kobold tail, feels as if the world was just pulled under him... Which, in a sort, it was. Or he was pulled over the world. Either way, he spends the next little bit shaking out his head and blinking rapidly.

Vus, on the other hand, continues to wait patiently for the kobold. He points his nose at Trace, as the man enters the room they just occupied. Jurgen curses, in a mumbling sort, about a door and invisible kobolds.

Ilsidur
Tuesday December 10th, 2002 11:38:20 PM

Ilsidur runs over to where he last saw the held kobold before it disappeared, waving his arms around to see if the body is still there, but has become invisible, or if it in fact has gone somewhere else. If he does make contact with an invisible kobold, he quickly trusses it up with some rope from his pack, and then carefully searches it. He calls out, "I think we have accounted for them all! Hopefully, the leader didn't escape, because I understand that kobolds often run errands for dragons, and if these dog-faced scum were working for the enemy, then the dragon knows more about us than we do about him (or her). Sly, why don't you have Luke sniff around a bit and see if he can tell if anything or anyone else is still hiding around. Sir Thomas, while you are trying to save that kobold, why don't you give it a good search, and see if it has anything identifying it."

When Trace arrives, he looks up at the ranger, and says, "Welcome back! I see your shopping trip went well. Sorry you missed all the fun. We've kept one for you, but unfortunately he isn't doing very well right now." He points to the kobold lying on the floor, with Sir Thomas bending over him. Once he is done with the invisible kobold (assuming it is still around), he takes the mace and waves it around a bit. "Well, I can certainly use this, but maybe when we face the dragon, one of you fighter types can put it to better use. I expect I will be spending most of my time casting spells like dispel magic, and cure burns."

The Planning (DM Stephen)  d100=31 d6=2
Wednesday December 11th, 2002 1:22:03 AM

While the party begin to plan in the corner. The stabbed kobold wakes up after he heals. He shakes with fear! Says nothing. He looks to be losing his wits!!

Ilsidur waves his hand around the area where the leader kobold froze. Amazingly, your hand hits something and you hear a thud as something hits the floor!

Luke looks around. He spins around a few times and sniffs the air. He starts to circle the room. What's he up to? He looks to be trying to find something.

Its obvious after a few seconds ... the maidens are gone!!

(party's initiative. We need to get going. Tick tock. Email each other if you have to.)

Sly Foxx and Luke
Wednesday December 11th, 2002 8:26:39 AM

Sly bandages his wound, notices Luke's actions. Goes to where Luke is spinning and sniffing, then does this all around the room. Them it dawns on Sly?? *THE MAIDENS*. Sly turns to the rest of the party, with a little panic in his voice "The Five Maidens are gone, right from under our noise." Then turn to Jurden and ask "Where's your dog?"

Shiraz
Wednesday December 11th, 2002 8:57:27 AM

Shiraz looks at Sir Thomas, "Like you I prefer my Bastard Swords but whatever is available to help is is what I will use." Shiraz looks around when the others mention the maidens,"This is getting stranger, but now we must make haste."

Savin
Wednesday December 11th, 2002 9:26:09 AM

Savin glides into the room, following Trace, his eyes wide, taking in the signs of battle and the captured foes. He mutters to himself, "Sure I barely do anything against the dragon, but here I could have been helpful and I was out shopping."

When he sees the others whispering in the corner, he will add, "I fight best with my hands. I know of no guantlet or glove that inflicts cold damage but if you could improve my strength that would help in my ability to hit and the devastation of my blows. A belt of giant strength would be best or guantlets of ogre power would be helpful. I understand if they are to expensive" Savin looks away to keep an eye on the prisoners

Like sands in the Hourglass ... (DM Stephen)  d6=5 d6=3 d100=14 d100=12 d6=4 ouch!
Thursday December 12th, 2002 2:06:47 AM

Ilsildur finds the invisible and "held" kobold leader the quickly wraps him up in a rope. The rope disappears as he ties it. Ilsildur still feels the rope, but as the rope leaves his hand it becomes apart of the kobolds spell. You can easily "pat down the body" to search for any items that the kobold may be carrying.

Savin remembers the clerk talking about a potion called Greater Magic Fang. He mentons the potion is bought and used by the famous Mordo, the minotaur monk of the Gold Dragons. He also talked about stories where Mordo picked a dragon up off the ground the threw him!!! (I know that the clerk didnt say this in a past posts, but its my way letting you know about it without taking anymore time .. tick tock!!)

Savin also remembers seeing some nice daggers, darts and sickles. (I would allow their use with your unarmed attack bonuses. Since eastern-style weapons, that a monk can use, are not allowed. The DM's are talking about substituting other tiny weapons for those that are banned.)

The maidens are no longer around. There appears to be no evidence of them being here, except for the maps being left behind. None of you saw them leave or disappear. However, a note and a hourglass now rest on the table. The sand in the hourglass falls very slowly. If you touch the hourglass, you magically know how much time is left. (5 days, 3 hours and 14 minutes GST. Game Standard Time. Not real time. We have until mid to late January to finish!! tick tock.)

The note is from the maidens. It reads: We have gone ahead and will attempt to beg for our artifacts back. We hope that Tumult has a few shreds of descency. Even he should fear the Shadow Realm. We have to try, even if the chance is slight. If we can spare your lives then our attempt is not in vain. Otherwise, you will need to get on your way. The hourglass will tell you how much time we ALL have left. Good luck!

The healed kobold is still frozen in fear, but he is awake, breathing heavy and wildly looking around!!

(Party Initiative)

Savin
Thursday December 12th, 2002 8:45:27 AM

Savin relys the memory of the magic potion, "Several of these would be helpful to both myself and anyone who is going to be getting close to the beast."

Savin heads over to the kobold and asks, "Why are you here? If you talk, we won't have to kill you. If you don't, we won't have any incentive to keep you around, and I need some crossbow practice." Savin pats his crossbow. Savin feels a little strange talking to the end of a trail rope. He thinks, "I suppose this won't be the strangest thing I do with my new friends."

Sly Foxx and Luke
Thursday December 12th, 2002 9:17:37 AM

"Here let me help you with the end of that rope." Sly will get off his knees and fell around to where the rope ends and feels for an invisible body. Sly will search the body and hoping it's not female. Sly will be feeling for weapons, loose papers anything the party can use. "At least they are not kidnapers just killers. Luke sit by me."

Sir Thomas
Thursday December 12th, 2002 1:06:08 PM

[OOC: I just went back to a previous post and pulled this info out. I am not posting from home.]
"Trace, This is the total that I previously gave you regarding the party's monetary situation:

(641 gp 11sp 6cp of Thomas' personal coin)

Chits
3 Orange, 5 Red, 5 Yellow, 3 White, 2 Violet, 1 Black

Money
3887gp, 120pp, 108sp, and 5cp

Gems
3 worth 300 gp each

Additionaly, if you'll remember, I gave you these items to sell to rasie money for the group.

splint mail, a bastard sword, magical bar of soap, miniature magical chocolate moose, spike +1, Horn of fog production, and a non-magical masterwork mace.

"Additionally, I'd sell my bastard sword +1 and my splint mail +1 [OOC: I think it's splint] if we could replace them with something else useful, so consider that."

"This time is a real factor for us friends. WE should split up. Some of us should go with Trace back to the Catacombs. The others of us should interrogate these vermin. I'd really prefer to stay and ask questions myself."

Thomas goes over to the Kobold he tied up, grabs him by the collar and drags him to a chair. Thomas sits him down very roughly, but without hurting him. "We can fee you, but we won't do it if you won't help us. Do you understand me? F-R-E-E-D-O-M."

Jurgen And Vus  d20+3=15
Thursday December 12th, 2002 2:48:29 PM

The boy, although still a bit dazed from the effects of his faithful companion, walks calmly inside. He staggers for a moment, clutching his stomach. He then surveys the situation about the Crones and the Kobold. He reads the note and stamps his foot to the floor.

"I could do with a wand of Magic Missle... And I wouldn't say no, if it was Empowered and Maximized. Also, a few Feather Tokens in the form of trees, if we can afford it. As many Alchemist's Fires as possible is a hope of mine too. But spend as you must." He grins, tossing his bags of assorted coins and jems to Trace.

"We need to hurry up and go. If it is a 5 day trip, we have 3 hours before we have to be gone. Both Alfric, Myself and Vus here could fly there... And I could help you guys fly there too. If we wanted. That way we could gain a few hours." He says, to nobody in particular, but anyone who listens.

Then, to the kobold, he speaks in Draconic. "Sir Thomas there can hurt you pretty badly. Do you hear him? He's talking about giving you a fate worse then death, if you don't obey. And trust me, he can extract it. S-U-F-F-E-R."

[Bluff Check: DC of 15]

DM Stephen
Thursday December 12th, 2002 4:12:48 PM

(The hourglass isnt telling you its a 5 day journey to the dragon lair. It means you have 5 days until the land falls into the Shadow Realm and everyone DIES ... unless you can get the artifacts back to the crones!! And as you know the dragon has added them to his treasure horde. Tumult is either ignorant of the situation or is working with a higher power. No one knows for sure. The situation is very urgent!!!)

Ilsidur
Thursday December 12th, 2002 7:30:34 PM

Ilsidur looks up after binding the invisible kobold. "It sounds like we had better get going. Does anybody have an idea how far it is to the dragon's lair? I don't remeber if anyone mentioned it. I suggest Trace and Sir Thomas stay here and finish the purchases, and the rest of us get on the road. They can catch up to us on their horses. I propose we carry these two live kobolds with us, and interrogate them along the way. This one," he says, pointing to the empty space on the floor containing the kobold, "will turn visible eventually, and then we can ask him why they attacked. He seems to be the ring-leader."

He drags the invisible kobold over beside the other live kobold, and then gathers up the gear from the two dead kobolds. He then casts detect magic on all the gear, and the live and dead kobolds. "If any of this stuff turns up as magic, I suggest you take it with you when you get the last of our purchases."

Shiraz
Thursday December 12th, 2002 8:06:20 PM

"I agree Isildur, I will carry the kobolds and here Trace." Shiraz hands a small sack to the ranger,"thats 1000 gold there the rest I spent on upgrading my armor."

Kobolds (DM Stephen)  d20+6=20 d20+5=15 d20+5=10 d20+5=8
Friday December 13th, 2002 5:05:46 PM

The invisible kobold, held and tied, is slamed down in a chair. After the magic of the hold person spell wears off, you can hear the kobold squirming a little. After a few draconic curses, Sir Thomas is hit in the face with glob of spit (Hit touch attack AC 20). After that attack, the kobold and rope become visible. "I understand Common, you foolll!!"

From across the room the other kobold squirms and starts to "freak out!!" He shouts out in draconic,"Kleepeck ..HELP MEE ... THEY GOING TO EAT ME IEEEEE HELP ME!!"

(in draconic)"Shut up fool ... I hope they do," bellows the commander!!

Shivering in morbid fright the scared kobold begins to shout. "OHH MY GOD TUMULT ...HELP ME, OH GOD, HELP ME!!'

The commander calmly turns to Sir Thomas and says, "I will tell you something if you shut him up ... kill him!!"

Then the commander kobold hears Jurgen's statement (opposed Sense Motive check 15, success). "Haahahahahaaahahaha, you make me laugh... you Itty Bitty!!"

The scared one hears it too. (Sense Motive check 10, fail) "OH GOD... TUMULT OH GOD ... NO TORTURE IEEEEEEE!!" He starts crying and talking incoherently. He is truely becoming annoying.

The commander kobold becomes enraged, "SHUT UP FROZZ, SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!!!!" The commander is really beginning to struggle against the ropes (escape artist check 8, failed) but cant break its hold. However you feel he wasnt trying to flee but to kill his companion.

After searching the all and casting Detect Magic, Ilsildur sees six glowing objects. Two crossbow bolts from the dead rogue, a wand from the dead sorceror, a dagger, and a ring and glass orb from the commander.

You all start to pool together money and items together while the scared kobold continues to scream with no end in sight. As soon as he stops to take a breath, he starts screaming again. Very very annoying!!! You not sure with all the garbled screaming but you think you hear him now crying for "mommy!!"
------------------
A knock is heard at the door. A short halfling and a burley half-orc enter and stand in surprise as they see what's going on. The halfling taking a short moment to remember what he was going to say starts to talk. "Umm ... sirs, some ladies came by my shop and bought these fine horses. They had Brody here put these shiny horseshoes on them!" Brody the Half-orc holds up a set of silvery horseshoes, "Yeah, this set is meant for a paladin's mount. If one of you can show me where the horse is, I'll put these shoes on her." "Yes," says the halfling, "everything is bought and paid for. Here is the receipt."

If you look out the door or window you will see beautiful horses with saddles and everything. All ready to go. One for each of you. The halfling remembers one last thing, "Oh I almost forgot ... um Mr. Minotaur, Sir, the horse with the white saddle is yours. That horse is meant for you since your so much larger and all. Oh well!!! Look at the time. I can see," looking at the tied up kobolds, "you gentlemen are busy .... sooo I guess I'll be leaving ... good day!" The halfling nerviously dashes off leaving Brody holding the horseshoes and his equipment.

(Whoever is handling the money, give me a grand total of how much you have. I dont trust myself, Im horrible with math, ask anyone. Party's initiative)

Savin
Friday December 13th, 2002 5:45:59 PM

Savin walks over to the table and picks up a napkin or cloth, whatever is available. He strides over to the kobold who is whimpering and screaming and when he inhales to scream he deftly pops the cloth into his mouth. He will pull his fingers back quickly to avoid the teeth.

"Relax! If you answer some questions and act as a guide we will be glad to free you and give you some treasure besides. Now calm down. Now for if you bother the minotaur with your ranting and crying he might decide he doesn't need you around much."

Savin looks up and says, "I think we can have this one help us. The commander is to willful and will have to be excuted, but this one may be redeemed."

Sly Foxx and Luke
Friday December 13th, 2002 8:25:29 PM

"Yes, Savin, That prisoner is scared enough and besides I speak Draconic." Sly proceeds to tell of the Children of Chaos what was said between the two kobold. When the Halfling and the Halforc who are delivering the horses. Sly look out the window, "LOOK! a horse for all of us, That means that I don't ride in the woman's place, behind the rider. I'll be the rider."

Shiraz
Sunday December 15th, 2002 8:56:21 PM

"Thanks much for the horses. They will help us a great deal." Turning back to the others Shiraz smiles,"We wont get nything from either probably, we need to get started though."

Sir Thomas
Monday December 16th, 2002 11:55:37 AM

Thomas stands and wipes the spit from his face. "Your fate will be far worse than death. Brody, is there a temple to Domi or some other good aligned faith in town? We'd like them to hold this creature captive until we return."

He approaches Brody after the halfling leaves, "Thank you for your delivery. I am the only paladin in our group." Thomas offers a slight bow of respect. "I will show you to my horse." Thomas turns to the group. "I will be back in a few seconds to discuss money so we can leave. I think we should put that orb in a pouch and in another room. It could be a magcial thing that Tumult uses to communicate with these vermin or possibly to watch us." Thomas then leaves to show Brody to Pryte-Honos. "Brody, please come back in so we can offer you a small tip for your delivery." (Thomas will give him 2 gp from the groups money if he comes back in.)

Thomas returns to the common room of the inn. "I like Ilsidur's idea that Trace and I should stay, but now that we are all on even ground we won't have any added advantage over the rest of you, so it doesn't make sense to split up. I think we should designate a leader for shopping and let them make all decisions based upon the discussion we have already had. Whether we like the outcome or not, we will know that the purhcases have had the best intent for the group at heart."

"By my tally, we have the following money and items.
Group - 120pp, 3887gp, 108sp, 5 cp, 3 gems (300gp ea), Chits (3 orange, 5 red, 5 yellow, 3 white, 2 violet, 1 black), mace - splint mail -bastard sword (all non-magical), magical bar of sop, miniature magical chocolate moose, spike +1, a Horn of Fog Production, masterwork shield with spikes for bashing

Additionally, we have:
Thomas: 639 gp (includes Bordy's tip as given), 11 sp, 6cp, masterwork shield with spikes for bashing, also, a Bastard Sword +1, Half plate mail +1 (if they can be replaced with something else)

Trace 400gp

Shiraz 1000gp

Sold magic 6240 gp

Kobold magical items (unidentified) - 2 crossbow bolts, wand, dagger, ring, glass orb

TOTAL:
13378gp (gold equivalents), 1 cp, Chits (3 orange, 5 red, 5 yellow, 3 white, 2 violet, 1 black) [OOC: I don't know what we could or will get for the chits], mace - splint mail -bastard sword (all non-magical), magical bar of sop, miniature magical chocolate moose, spike +1, a Horn of Fog Production, masterwork shield with spikes for bashing, unidentified magic (2 crossbow bolts, wand, dagger, ring, glass orb) and possibly a bastard sword +1 and half plate mail +1 (if they can be replaced)

"That's a lot. Does anyone have anything else they'd like to donate to the group for sale or trade? Any money? This is your last chance to speak up. If you have tried to give before and I missed it, please correct my mistake.

"Everyone should also AT THIS MOMENT state what they feel they are missing that will help them aid the group during the fight with Tumult. There is no more time for debate. What do YOU think will help you help us?

"I think I could be of more benefit with a weapon of electricity [OOC: no need to put all of our eggs in the cold basket], or dragon bane. I don't necessarily need better armor, though it might help me live.

"Ilsidur, are you going to use that mace in the fight, or are you going to let someone else use it while you cast spells? I only ask because if you don't plan on using it then give it to the individual you think will use it to its maximal benefit so we don't have plan to buy them anything. I hope you understand why I pressure you for a decision."

Clay [OOC POST]
Monday December 16th, 2002 12:00:16 PM

Please note that I itemized the gropu pot first and then totalled it.

Also, I wonder if we sold or did anything with the magical cards we had/have. They are still on my character sheet and I'm sure we could get quite a nice price for them if we sold them.

Additionally, we could negotiate the sale of what we used to have in Hook City. We could offer it for sale based upon what we had before the cataclysm shook the city and we teleported away. We might get a few hundred gold for the possibility that it's still there. I have Chloe's keys. What do you think? It's definately something to consider.

Let's don't debate, just whoever is the "shopping leader" give it a shot.

Clay

Shiraz
Monday December 16th, 2002 2:13:45 PM

Shiraz looks at his friends,"I agree Sir Thomas, let Trace continue to buy and sell, the only thing I need is either a weapon that will allow me to hit the darn dragon, or protection while I work on hitting him, as such I would like to go with Trace and see if they have anything I can trace my current +2 armor in for and my greatswords." Shiraz looks around, "if thats ok with you all."

[Sorry. Last night I almost posted. Then the fun happened. My power went out. It appears there was a hurricane near-by and it managed to destroy most power in my area. I just went to bed, muttering about stupid ineffective power lines]

Jurgen hops up onto one of the smaller horses, being the smallest of the group. He looks down and Vus and laughes. The dog looks up at Jurgen, whining. He wanted to ride.

"Do they have riding dogs... For dogs." He chuckles a bit, then looks down at his canine companion. "You can use your Dimension Door. I can't. That is why I have a horse. Silly dog!"

Jurgen goes through his things, pulling nearly everything out. He hands it all to

"Here are the things I've got for the group. Sell anything and everything of it. Potion of Alter Self, 3 Cure Light Wounds Potions, Cure Moderate Wounds Potion, Potent Potion of Darkvision (10 uses), Potion of Haste, Silence Wand (Three Charges), Stylish Pants O' Plenty".

Then he begins to stretch his arms and legs. It was time to go... Or would be, very soon. "I'll need two sets of clothing. Red or blue, would be wonderful..." But then, as if expecting Sir Thomas to roll his eyes, he speaks up. "Anything would be good though..."

[Pants O' Plenty:
These pants appear to be well-made and unremarkable, but their magic nature is obvious when different people try them on -- a perfect fit regardless of size!

The pants can have many regular pockets, but two special pockets open into nondimensional spaces, like a bag of holding -- the inside is larger than the outside. Neither the pants themselves nor objects placed in the special pockets affect the wearer's encumbrance. Each pocket can hold up to 20 pounds in 2 cubic feet of space. While such storage is useful enough, the pants pockets have an even greater power in addition. When the wearer reaches into a pocket for a specific item, that item is always on top (as with Heward's handy haversack). Thus, no digging around and fumbling is ever necessary to find what a pocket contains. Retrieving any item from the pants is a free action. If the wearer of the pants desires to withdraw items from both pockets in the same round, the second pocket item retrieval is a move equivalent action.

If a fine or diminutive living creature is placed within a pocket, it can survive for up to 10 minutes, after which time it runs out of air.

The pants and whatever the pockets hold gain a +2 resistance bonus to all saving throws. This resistance does not extend to the wearer of the
pants.

If a person tries to place an item in a pocket which would exceed the capacity of the pocket, he will feel a resistance, a pushing back against the item. If he nevertheless forces the item in, that will cause the pocket to burst. The DM may make a saving throw for each item within to see if it is lost in another dimension (d100:1-40) or spills out upon the ground (d100:41-100). Add 5% to the roll if an item stored is magical, (such as a potion), or 5% times the plus of an item to the roll for items with magical plusses. For example, a +2 dagger would fall to the ground if the adjusted d100 roll is 31 or higher (d100+10).

Though highly resistant to puncturing or tearing, if a concerted effort is made to damage a pocket, a similar effect to that of overfilling will result.

These pants come in two variations.
1. The standard pair of pants o' plenty can be made of any number of durable fabrics. The extra-dimensional pockets are made of finely tanned leather, which is concealed by the fabric. 2. The stylish pants o' plenty are able, on a command phrase (which includes the shade desired), to change color. And with a separate command phrase, they will also change style. The wearer of the pants gains a +2 on disguise checks. This does not stack with Change Self / Polymorph / Hat of Disguise bonuses, but may stack with a disguise kit. An individual change takes a standard action, or both color and style can be changed as a full round action. At the DM's discretion, a limit of up to five color changes plus five style changes can be made per day.

Caster Level: 9th; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Leomund's secret chest. Change self also needed for color/style changing option. Market Price: 2,000 gp for pants o' plenty; 2,500 for stylish pants o' plenty.]

Savin
Monday December 16th, 2002 11:05:42 PM

Savin looks at the horses with worry. "I will be glad to try and ride one of these fine beasts. I don't know how to ride. Normally I job or walk to where ever I need to go. Any advice anybody?"

Savin shoulders his belongings and heads over to a horse. One of the smaller ones and starts strapping his gear to it.

OOC Savin has 135 gps that he would be glad to throw in. The only magic item that has any value are gloves of dexderity and a ring of protection +2. He uses both but if we need money he will throw them in as a last resort. For Savin to be more effective in a fight, a something to give him strength modifiers would be very helpful. Some magic bolts for his crossbow would also be nice. A couple speciality bolts might help swing the balance.

Sir Thomas
Monday December 16th, 2002 11:22:41 PM

"Did you get that Trace? Add Savin's 135gp and, AS A LAST RESORT ONLY, his gloves of dexterity and ring of protection +2. Also, Jurgen's list of items, though I don't think we should sell the cure potions nor the haste potion nor the wand of silence. Those I see as possibly being of use.

"I have added them all to the list of things that we are willing to sell or trade though. Be careful friend. Be sure that everyone has the ability to hurt Tumult as well as to protect themself. We are trusting your wisdom. Be sure to get sale prices as well as buying prices before you sell everything. Remember Savin's and my own requests that our items should be replaced or kept if at all possible."

Ilsidur
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 1:32:24 AM

"Sir Thomas, if you will think back to what I said earlier, [OOC: See my post Dec. 10th] you will see that I offered the mace up to anyone who plans on attacking the dragon. I hope to be able to get a few whacks in, but likely I will be spending most of my time healing and casting dispel magics. [OOC: Stephen, is the mace of icy burst a light mace or a heavy mace?] So, if you or Shiraz or Sly Foxx or Trace want to use the mace when we attack the dragon, feel free. Just be aware that I don't have another magic weapon, which may or may not be important. Let me know if someone else wants it."

"I don't expect everyone to sell everything that we own, to buy items to specifically kill the dragon. I especially don't think that dragonbane items are a good idea. Frost and icy burst weapons will harm other things, as well as fire-breathing dragons. I am certain that we will be running into more than just a dragon."

"I too have magic items, but they are all useful, like a magic breastplate and shield, and boots of running. I also have three wands, all of which will likely be useful in the coming battle. I suggest Trace purchase whatever he can without stripping us of our useful items. I suggest he purchases at least two raise dead scrolls, just in case. Also, get the items identified from the kobolds, but don't sell them if they seem useful."

Then Ilsidur walks out front, and picks out the stoutest, slowest, oldest horse of the group. He eyes the horse warily, and says, "Now, I really don't like horses, except for supper. If you behave, we will get along just fine." Then he uses his boots to jump up into the saddle, and settles in, muttering to himself about riding, and falling off.

Frazzled Clerk!! (DM Stephen)  d100=46 d6=2
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 2:45:48 AM

The clerk looks a little frazzled as he works overtime to price and identify everything.

Ok here we go.

Total Gold: 19780gp & 1cp.
This includes everything thats been pooled together. Items listed below are not added to this amount.

Sir Thomas's items:
+1 Bastard Sword - 2335gp
+1 Half Plate Armor - 1750gp

Jurgen's Items:
Alterself Potion - 300gp
Potent Potion of Darkvision - 3000gp
Stylish Pants O'Plenty - 2500gp

Savin's Items:
Gloves of Dex. +2 - 4000gp
Ring of Protection +2 - 8000gp

Shiraz's Armor: What kind is it?

Items found on Kobolds:
Bolt of Human Slaying - 2282gp
Bolt of Dwarf Slaying - 2282gp
Wand of Magic Missiles (9th caster level, 32 charges) - 4750gp
+2 Dagger - 8320gp
Ring of Protection +2 - 8000gp

After identifying the orb, the clerk nerviously drops it and he quickly claws for it and covers it with his hat. "Oh my word ... goodness gracious... you brought something like this here!!!!" The clerk shuffles through a pile of magical bags and finally finds a particular one. He then quickly puts the orb, including his hat, into the bag.

"Gentlemen, do you know what you brought in here, into my catacombs!!!! AN EYE OF SPYING!! One of a pair!! Im sure the other is in the claws of a dragon. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHOWING THAT MONSTER ALL THE MAGIC MY SHOP HAS!!! No no... you did not know. I dont think he saw anything important." The clerk calms down and regains his composure. "I put the orb in a Bag of Silence. He wont be able to see or hear anything if it stays in that. Its worthless without the other orb. If you can find the other I'll give you 12,000gp for them both."

"Oh by the way, Chits are pretty much worthless anywhere but Sky Hook! Sorry!"
----------------
Brody the half-orc says, " Yes, there is a temple of Domi here. I can show you after I shoe your horse." He then follow Sir Thomas to the stable where his mount awaits.

Savin successfully gaggs the screaming kobold. He continues to make mumbling noises but at least its not like his high piercing shrills were before.
-----------------------

(Great Play everyone ... You're really beginning to take command of the situation. :) I award everyone 200 exp for these posts. Good show. Party's Initiative.)

Trace and Radiant
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 3:19:11 AM

Ok, I am feeling very overwhelmed and nervous that I will make a wrong choice. Please send e-mails to me and cc the entire group. I think two days more of e-mails will be needed. If I try and solve it with the info now I am sure that I will leave someone out or upset the group. E-mails and then Thursday afternoon I will post the final purchase and sell. If someone thinks they can get this done quicker please help. I will not be offended at all. I for one have what I think I need. And dont forget once the last post we need to do a grand tally and then split it up. :::brain hurts thinking aobut that task:::::::

Sly Foxx and Luke
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 10:15:54 AM

Sly is excited and look over all the horses, But there is one that catches his eye. It's a beautiful mare with a dark tan coat, with a main, tail and four stoking in black. Sly move to her, touching her and look into her brown eyes, asking her "Do you want to come with me? Do you want me for a master?" Then watches her react, "She remind me of my beloved Gypsy girl. If you want that's what I'll call you Gypsy."
Luke sniffs the horse and does not know what to do or act with it.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 12:11:35 PM

[OOC: I didn't have armor from Shiraz, so I have no input on that. Stephen, I know you're working hard, but don't forget the other items listed (i.e. horn of fog, deck of cards, and spike +1, etc.]

"Ok Ilsidur, I thought you had mentioned loaning the mace to one of us. If you have enough magic and wands then, if no one else minds, I'll use the mace. That way I can keep my armor and shield.

"Here's how I see the breakdown. Trace is ready to fight with a sword of frost or cold or something. Ilsidur is ready with is magic. Jurgen is ready with magic. Sly will use the wand of cold. I am ready with the mace of icy burst. That leaves weaons for Shiraz and Savin only. Not too much to shop for.

"Ilsidur has a strong point. We'll likely face other enemies on our way to the dragon, so everyone be sure you have other forms of attack and defense.

"Everyone speak up if you have different opinions. If we sell everything we picked up from the kobold's, that's 20884gp. Add that to the 19780gp we already have and we have 40,664gp. That's before we sell any of our items. I think that's enough to buy the two items we need, though I don't know what a girdle costs. [OOC: see below] Then if we need more we can sell the items that we think will help us the least, like the horn of fog magical soap magical moose, spike +1, and lastly, any potions Jurgen thinks will help the least or the pants. and lets not forget that deck of cards."

"Buy a girdle of giant strength for Savin, and a sword +1 of icy burst or shocking burst for Shiraz. I vote shocking. I mean, we don't want to get caught in a position where the dragon casts a spell of cold protection and then our main form of damage will be taken away.

"If anyone thinks I have it wrong, please speak up. It's just one solution to the puzzle. We can debate it further in email if you guys don't want to clutter up the board.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 12:13:59 PM

"Additionally, I say we leave these kobold's in the hands of folks with good intentions who will teach them daily about what it means to be a kind a caring individual. I'm sure they'd LOVE that as preferred to death." Thomas winks at his friends figuring, if they expect death then make them live and it'll be more torture than the fate they expected.

Shiraz
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 1:36:35 PM

Shiraz looks at his friends and gets a frazzled look on his face,"I uh.. I , ok whatever we have to do this is getting to the point where it hurts to think anymore, if we trade in greatsword and get another gretsword to replace it, that would be excellent. If we cant I will work with what I have."

ooc Stephen Did you not get my last catacombs transaction I upgraded my armor from +1 to +2 I will send you another character sheet today or tomorrow.

Savin
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 2:38:01 PM

Savin is stroking his horses face trying to get friendly with the animal. He will dart back into the kitchen for an apple or carrots. He is a firm believer in bribing his animals. As he feeds the horse he will say, "We have over 40,000 gps. Wow. That is a lot of money. If we could get a girdle for me, I would be estatic and might be able to do some more consistant damage in the battle.
I am definitely concerned about the battles prior to the showdown with the wurm. We should load up on healing potions, drafts to protect against poison, and the like. We now know that the dragon has allies/slaves to do his bidding. These lowly kobolds were very well equipped. Image what the more serious guards will have."
I was also thinking that we are going to a mountain. Is everyone here able to climb in rough terrain. I know we have gotten some fly spells, but we might want our mages to load up on some spiderclimbs, and featherfall scrolls. Might be useful. Maybe a rope of climbing if we have enough cash. Just a thought."
Savin climbs up on the horse and tries to steer it around, getting used to the reins."

DM Stephen
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 3:00:27 PM

(The horn of fog and +1 spike is included in the grand gold total that I listed. I missed the deck of cards.)

Clay OOC
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 3:51:26 PM

Just trying to keep my notes straight. If I am reading this correctly, all of the items we sold were valued at 6402gp. Does this include the shield that I decided to keep in my last post? If so, is it too late to take that shield back?

Does it include Savin's 135 gp?

Thanks Stephen.

DM Stephen
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 4:25:06 PM

(Keep your shield and I included Savin's gold. I'll deduct the price of the shield. It wasnt much if memory serves me.)

Clerk (DM Stephen)  d100=73 d6=4
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 4:38:17 PM

"Do you have a cleric, or anyone else who practices the divine arts? If so, I have something your divine spellcaster may want. Since you're fighting a dragon, you may want to bring with you the might of your god or the forces of nature. With this special incense, your cleric or druid will weild untold power. Only 8000gp!! It is a one-time use and takes a little time to prepare. Can you spare 8 hours?"

(The cleric only needs to burn this block of incense, breathe its fragrances and pray for 8 hours. After the 8 hours, the cleric can cast his spells as if they were maximized spells, but at their regular spell level (As if using the metamagic feat, Maximize Spell). The effect last for 24 hours. For example, all healing spells do max healing without having to roll, every time!! Along with all the rest of the clerics spells.)

Sir Thomas
Tuesday December 17th, 2002 11:20:52 PM

"OOOOOOO, tough question. Ilsidur, I think this one is for you. Let's all keep in mind that we have two group members who need equipment despite this wonderful offering. That's all the input I have." Thomas offers a whimsical wink.

The Clerk continues to Werk (DM Stephen)  d100=55 d6=3
Wednesday December 18th, 2002 12:33:09 AM

Ohhh ... you say a monk needs more strength, well I have a Belt of Giant Strength.

I have it in two strengths:
Belt of Giant Strength +4 - 16,000gp
Belt of Giant Strength +6 - 36,000gp

I also have many bastard swords for you Minotaur warrior:
+2 Dragonbane Bastard Sword - 32350gp
Against a dragon this sword will be a +4 weapon. It will do 1d10+2d6+4 damage. In the hands of your minotaur friend it should be quite potent.

In Shiraz's hands:
attack bonus: +18/+13
damage: 1d10+2d6+15 (2 handed), 1d10+2d6+12 (1 handed).

"Both items are within your budget!!"

(Wade, I looked at your character sheet and noticed that you use the bastard sword. If you want a Great Sword, which your post suggests, the price will be basically the same.)

Jurgen and Vus
Wednesday December 18th, 2002 1:57:36 AM

[I see now that we won't be able to afford that Maximized and Empowered wand, if we hook Shiraz and Savin up... Which I think we should do. I don't know though, because I still want a wand[magic missle] for him. Otherwise Jurgen has little use in this battle, other then an insane distraction. Maybe we could get a Belt of Giant's Strength +4 instead of +6? That way, Jurgen could get his wand and everyone[I think] would have a way of hitting Tummy]

Jurgen sits patiently on his horse, petting it and making sure it's happy. He mentions to the group his desire for a wand, then tries to get the horse to run up and down the street.

"Ride like the wind, Tumalt! Run like the wind!" He shouts loudly, wondering why he named a horse after an evil dragon... It mattered not, other then for interest. And whatever interested Jurgen, usually kept him busy.

[Sorry for the bad post. I'm still not sure about the net, so I'm making them short and sweet. My cable provider should be here... eventually to assure me that nothing is wrong and then leave with it in worse condition then started. Thanks for the patience.]

Trace and Radiant

69,389 gps
-8,835 gps sir thomas items and magic missle wand he is keeping
-48,350gps dragon bane sword and giant str. belt
------
12,204 gps left.
whew!

Trace's hands are stained with ink as he continues to add and subtract prices on items bought and sold. With the clerk on one side and Trace on the other, parchment and spread out everywhere covering the items on the list. "Ok, now I need prices for
spider climb
feather fall
resurection
antidote for poison
feather tokens for tress?
scroll of holding

Trace gives another nervous smile, "This really should be our last purches for a while. Oh and the seeing sphere that you put in the bag. You said that he can see in it to us, does it work both ways, or is there just a sender and reciver?" Trace sets down the quill to take a brake from the adding and subtracting and spends some long overdue time with Radiant. He feeds him bits of meat saved and pets his soft feathers. Trace thinks aloud, "I wonder if there is something I could get Radaint here to help against the dragon?" He moves Radiant back to his sholder and begins to try and mind a tear in the leg of his britches.

Sir Thomas
Wednesday December 18th, 2002 8:30:01 AM

Thomas looks around at his friends who are all dressed up with no where to go until Trace returns. "Let's don't forget these." Thomas walks over to the table and grabs the sands of time and the map, along with any other papers that rest patiently on the table. "Somebody watch these imps for a second." Thomas goes and ties the sands to the pommel of this horse, Pryte-Honos, and puts the map in Sly's hand. [OOC:I'll get Pryte from the stable if that is necessary] "You're our guide friend."

Then to the group as a whole, "I'm going to run an errand. I'll be back before Trace ... I hope. If not, come find me at the temple of Domi. I"m going to deliver our captives." Thomas goes and collects the kobolds and moves them forcefully down the street toward the temple of Domi. Pryte-Honos walks faithfully behind the paladin without a word from the young man to do so.
----
At the temple, Thomas explains the situation to one of the priests and asks if they can keep the kobolds at least a few weeks until the group returns. He asks them to make their lives difficult by preaching to them about Domi and how to be a good and decent being. Thomas laughs, "that should really get under their skin ... a fate much worse than death."

If they say no, he'll ask them to deliver the kobolds to the local magistrate and charge them with attacking the group. He'll ask that they be held for at least two weeks so that they cannot cause trouble for the group by alerting the dragon.

Thomas thanks the priest and leaves with a bow. He then returns to his friends.

Trace and Radiant
Wednesday December 18th, 2002 12:04:15 PM

Trace scratches his head and then talks again as he stands up, "I tell you what, I have spent way too much time here I have an overwhelming desire to just start running for I feel that I am very late. We are going to keep the ring of protection and the gloves of dex. That means you owe us 204 and I will be out of your hair for a while." Trace collects the gold and items loads them on to shadow. After he rigs his horse for silent travel, he pulls himself up and swings his leg over the saddel just like hundreds of times before but he feels a dread come over him and an itch on the back of his hand. Death is coming, Trace thinks to himself and hopes that it is coming for Tumlet. Trace clucks out the side of his mouth and Shadow moves back to the inn where the others are waiting. After Trace gives out the last items he says, "Well, I'm ready to go wyrm hunting!"

Jurgen and Vus
Wednesday December 18th, 2002 2:41:04 PM

"It's about time! We've been waiting on you... Oh, wait. Where is Sir Thomas? Oh... There. Right. We've got everyone? Lets hope so. Yes. Everyone. Sounds good. Well, Dragons await. Or one dragon. Or one dragon with lots of friends. Or one dragon with enemies who band together to defeat a common enemy. Us. Funny. Us being an enemy. We're the good guys. But the bad guys could consider us enemies. Strange..." Jurgen speaks really quickly and doesn't stop for a single breath. He looks around with a hint of fear in his eyes. He'd never faced anything emmensely powerful, like a dragon. But he was with some of the strongest people he knew.

Sir Thomas was the bravest man he had ever met. He would fight death itself, if it would save a single living being. He fought for good and right. He cared little for money, nor possessions. Selfless, strong and good...

Shiraz is a Taur, scary at first. He was intimidating, massive and had a heart of gold. If at first you were fearful of him, then once you got to know him you would know he was kind beyond words. But get between him and his friends, or his cause and you may very well be dead in a matter of seconds.

Trace... A mysterious, yet strong figure. His movements showed a calm and relective nature, but with such speed and grace that it seemed unnatural. In battle, he would stand tall and attack with the fury of the world. A mix of subterfuge, skill and bravery has made him a vital member of the Southern Lights.

Sly Foxx is closest to Jurgen, in both age and maturity. Although this may sound like an insult, it is how he identifies with the group. Sly shows an ability in magic that Jurgen, although doesn't envy, respects. The subtle traces of wizardry are rarely seen by an enemy, so when he goes into battle he'll pull out suprises that will win the day.

Savin is the newest member to the group, unless you count Jurgen's leave of absence. Even though the boundry of time has seperated, Jurgen can see that he is a powerful asset. One who can strike with the force of a warrior, without weapons, could be great. His focused mind is just the opposite of Jurgen, but he could learn much from knowing Savin.

Finally, there was Ilsidur. A dwarf who often got irritated at Jurgen. Or at least Jurgen saw it that way. Even so, there is much to respect about him. He was chosen by the gods to wield his divine magic. And he is a sight to see. The dwarf, although short, is sturdy and strong. Peace, War, Struggle, Safety... The dwarf was able in any of this situations.

"Tumalt. While I am with these friends, you can do your worse. For I shall do mine." And with that, he starts to ride onward to Tumalt's lair.

[Ok. So that quote was stolen from The Count of Monte Cristo. So what :) Good movie, great book]

Shiraz
Wednesday December 18th, 2002 4:41:33 PM

Shiraz bounces out of Trace's way as the ranger passes him the new bastard sword,"Thanks Trace, I'll be just a moment," Shiraz walks up to the clerk, "Pardon me I seem to have an extra bastard sword, and I was wondering if I trade in both of my +1 bastard swords what kind of deal can you make me on a bastard sword to replace them?" If none then Shiraz understand and will bid farwell.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Wednesday December 18th, 2002 6:24:23 PM

Sly takes his bedroll and ties it long ways on Gypsy to make sure if Luke chooses to ride on the horse, but the dog show no signs to get on the horse. When Sir Thomas hand him (Sly) the map. Sly's jaw drop. "MMMMe? ttrack and. . . Lead the group? Are you shore?". Sly goes over to Trace and ask him "Big Brother, look what Sir Thomas gave me, The Map! Can I turn to you for advice on the trail?? Please and Thank-you." Then Turns to Alfric, "Hey Wizard, Almost time to go, time to ride." The Sly whispers to Jurgen "I hope he's ready, he does not have confidence in himself. I hope he does well under fire."

Savin
Wednesday December 18th, 2002 9:00:37 PM

Savin watches his new companions prepare and gravelly accepts the belt and straps it on. "Thank-you. I will try to honor and live up to the trust you are giving me." He pulls himself up onto his horse and says, "I hope I don't fall of this beast."

OOC which belt was bought +4 or +6

Wednesday December 18th, 2002 9:10:34 PM

[Hey Alfric. I didn't mean to leave you out of my last post. Sorry about that. A lack of sleep and too much caffine is really getting to me. Don't worry, I'll get you in there soon nough]

(DM Stephen - Alfric is no longer with the game. He bowed out. Exit wizard stage right!)

Clerk (DM Stephen)  d100=67 d6=4
Friday December 20th, 2002 5:12:22 PM

The clerk looks at Shiraz and starts to mumble to himself. "Hmmm ... what can I do. You need a more power weapon to compliment the dragonbane sword. Both of your +1 bastard swords will bring no more than 4600gp combined!!! A +2 bastard sword is almost twice that amount!!" The clerk rubs his chin and thinks a little more. An idea comes to his head. "Im not supposed to do this, but I can bind the sword to myself. Its a minor curse, but sometimes curses can be benefical. If at any point this sword leaves your possession for longer than a minute, it will teleport back to me. You can hold it or have it sheathed on your belt and it will stay with you. But let it go, it will return to me. I'll take you two +1 bastard swords as a down payment. You will then have 1 week before the weapon will return to me. Before that time, you can come back and pay for the rest. Then I would remove the curse." The clerk begins to smile, "I like to invest in my adventurers ... I know you might come back with a dragon's horde. Very profitable for everyone!!" The clerk smiles even wider and extends his hand. "Do you agree on these terms?"

"If not, I have a sale item that I cant seem to get rid of. Its a +2 Dagger of Gnome Slaying. Dreadful little dagger. Dont know what I was thinking when bought it off that goblin!! I will let you have that as an even trade!!"

Shiraz sighs and shakes his head, "I would love to try this, however I know not how long it will take us to travel there and back, not to mention do battle with the dragon. I must decline your offer, with regret. Tahnks friend." Shiraz salutes the clerik and joins his friends outside.

"Dagger of Gnome Slaying... Why would you want to kill a gnome?! They're wonderful little creatures. Crazy and inventive! You'd never want to hurt a gnome. Oh! You mean a bad gnome. Sheesh! Why didn't you say so?" He looks around at the group and smiles.

"Let's ride like the wind!"

Saturday December 21st, 2002 10:12:30 PM

Savin sits on his horse waiting for his comrades. He thinks to himself, "These new friends sure are unorganized. If I was this slow at the temple, the master would have beaten me with his cane. The master also told me to have patience. I wonder if this is one of his tests? No it couldn't be. Not even his arm is this long."

"Alright! You Children of Chaos, Let's ride." Sly jumps on his horse, opens and looks at the map, Check the wind and point to a trail to the left of the Ever Green Trees and rides. Luke follows Sly and the horse.

Horsemen of Chaos (DM Stephen)  d100=75 d6=5
Monday December 23rd, 2002 12:47:58 AM

Once the group mount the horses the air seems to be filled with excitement. By this time, word has gotten out that a small band of adventurers are going off to fight a mighty red dragon. Some people stop to watch the excitement. Nothing can be kept from the public ear when bards get involved. They have that uncanny ability to be in the know, even when lip-tight secrecy is practiced.

The horses grunt and whip around a bit with the lesser experienced riders. Once Sir Thomas takes the lead and takes off down the road, the rest follow and you're off like the wind. As the dust settles, a lonely bard sits under a tree and begins to tune his instrument.

The hooves pound on the road and the wind stings your face. The thundering sounds produced by the horses run is deafening. You are going so fast ... sooo fast. Those horseshoes must have been magical because you are going faster than you have ever gone before. (You're approaching speeds around 60 - 70 mphs.) Billowing dust and debris is being thrown into the air and creates a ominous cloud behind you as you ride.
---------------------------
(further down the road, we have an approaching kobold war party)

A war party of about 30 kobolds has been sent by Tumult to meet with the oncoming adventurers. As they march, Klepex (a kobold spearman) strikes up a conversation. "Muto, how much longer do we have to go?" Muto hisses, "As far as Tumult tells us ... any more stupid questions?" Klepex sulks, "I was only wanting to know ... all we do is walk and walk." Muto shouts, "DONT LET TUMULT HEAR YOU COMPLAIN OR YOU'LL BE THE NEXT SACRIFICE!!" "Oh shut up," and sighs are moaned from the others. Apparently everyone is tired of the constant bickering. They have already had to break up several fights this day alone. One argument ended in someone becoming last nights dinner.

Suddenly the pointman halts and everyone stops to listen. First it was just a low rumble heard on the wind. Then the sound gets louder and louder!!! Its a low rumble, like the sound of an approaching thunderstorm. The winds start to pick up and over the hill can be seen a dark brown dust cloud. The thunder roars louder and louder. The ground begins to shake. Klepex notices the peebles begining to rattle and quake.

BANG!!! The storm hits and a collection blurry nightmarish figures of beasts and horned devils with long fangs and claws trample over the war party (kobold perspective). Screams of pain are drowned out by their thunder. The storm rolls over the kobold party and continues down the road. Klepex can see nothing anymore. Too much dust, gravel and wind. Once it clears, he sees a morbid scene of his fellow kobolds trampled and mashed into bloody pulp. He then looks down the road to watch storm cloud make its way toward Tumults lair. "IEEEEEEEEEE." screams Klepex!! He rushes to the leaders lifeless body and takes an orb from his belt pouch. "TUMULTT... TUMULT!!! THEY'RE COMING ... THEY'RE COMING!!! THEY ARE FIRE BREATHING DEVILS AND THEY RIDE A STORM CLOUD AND COMMAND THE THUNDER.... IEEEEEEEE!!! THEY KILL EVERYONE BUT MEEEE," shouts a frantic kobold!!!
--------------------
(Back at Tumult's Lair)
"You failed me Klepex, I command you to either kill yourself or the Itty Bitties!! So get running or start cutting!!" Tumult deactivates the orb and pauses to think. "Ahhh ... they come ... good!! Im ready from them. They should be coming with some nice toys to add to my treasure!! Haahahahahahahahaha!!"
--------------------------
Back at the scene of the "hit and run" a shocked Klepex stares blankly at a darkened orb. He shakes it a little. Then without question, he puts it into his pouch, grabs a few more weapons and starts running back toward Tumult's lair. He realizes it will take several days to run back and he "borrows" an extra pair of boots, food and water from his fallen comrads. Then he starts his way back.
------------------------------
You all cover 3.5 days travel in a single day. At the end of the day you are at the base of the mountain that Tumult's lair is supposed to be. You easily spot a small trail leading up the mountain. It is fresh with kobold tracks. You now have a chance to rest and prepare before you make it up the mountain. With these horses, you should make it up the mountain in a few hours (not a full speed of course!!). There is no sign of kobolds except for their tracks. The clouds are thicker and overcast the sky. The temperature is much cooler here. The frosty kiss of Fall can be felt on your cheeks. Steamy mists float off the top of the mountain. Apparently there is still a little fire left in this dorment volcano.

(The dogs will not be able to match the horses speed. You find ways to put on the horse with you. Its possible, I grew up on a farm/ranch, Ive seen it done with dogs and even small calves. ) :)

Sir Thomas
Monday December 23rd, 2002 3:54:33 PM

"I think we should rest here and prepare ourselves for battle. I think everyone should get one of those protection from fire potions and that Vus should be fitted wiht the rest so he can teleport next to whomever needs it most and they can grab it while he teleports back away. Ilsidur, may I have the mace now?"

Thomas will trade his sword +1 for the mace if Ilsidur thinks that would benefit him. Thomas makes sure he is prepared to cast sure light wounds and bless weapon. THomas looked into other spells with effects that might be more effective, but he does not have the ability to dramatically affect any potential situation that comes to his mind. He prays to Domi for glory and honor in battle and checks his gear; taking a short practice session with the mace to familiarize himself with the weapon. It has been a long time since he praciticed weilding a mace. He checks his armor and polishes it and his shield. He checks Pryte-Honos' gear and spends time in conversation with his friend who cannot speak. He spends the entire night unable to sleep, talking to his friends.

"I think we should try to reason with him first. I'd be willing to step into his lair first to negotiate the release of the item in trade for something else. IF nothing else, it would allow the rest of you an opportunity to prepare yourselves more effectively. What do you think?"

[OOC: I realized that I forgot my CS at home when I left for Christmas. Stephen, if I need before Jan 1, will you send me a copy from the ones that you have, please?]

Sly Foxx and Luke
Monday December 23rd, 2002 3:54:34 PM

Sly halt's his horse, then taking Luke down to the ground, "There good chance I slowed down and pick you up onto the horse. Go get a drink of water and I'll get you some food." Sly lead the horse to water for her drink, then let's her graze.
Sly walk to the rest of the group. "Well, as you can see there some steam coming out of that cave way up there, That red devil should have another exit too." Sly points up in that direction. "Look! Fresh track too!"

Savin
Monday December 23rd, 2002 10:28:58 PM

Savin gratefully slides off the horse and immediately starts to walk around bowlegged. "I thought I was in good shape but OUCH!" The monk starts stretching and throwing kicks and punchs to loosen up his muscles.

Shiraz  d20+2=22
Tuesday December 24th, 2002 12:07:50 AM

Shiraz nimbly dismounts from his horse and pats the mare fondly, "Nice ride.. uh," Shiraz ponders for a moment,"Stormwind." Shiraz finishes up,'Thanks." Shiraz looks at Sir Thomas, I dont feel that negotiation is going to work here and you goin gup without us will hurt us worse than help. By the way here to those of us who cant cure ourselves I have potions of cure moderate wounds," Shiraz pulls out 15 potions and sets 10 on the ground,"I will keep 5 for now if thats ok?"

Ilsidur
Tuesday December 24th, 2002 12:40:37 AM

Ilsidur lets go of the saddlehorn that he had been holding onto for dear life, and ungracefully climbs down from the saddle. He stomps his feet a few times, then looks up at Savin and says, "You think riding is hard on you, you should try it with legs half the length of yours."

"I agree that we should pass out the magic that we purchased right now. Sir Thomas, here is the mace. [OOC: Stephen, is it a light mace or a heavy mace? I don't think that was ever made clear.] Hang onto your sword, I'll use my trusty waraxe if I need to swing a weapon. Something tells me I'm going to be kind of busy patching up you fighter-types. Now, where are those potions of dragon repellent, or fire immunity?"

Jurgen and Vus
Tuesday December 24th, 2002 2:25:00 AM

[Note about Vus: the blink dog familiar grants the ability of the master to dimension door along with the dog if touching it, and if the master and his equipment weigh 400 pounds or less. This can be done a number of times per day equal to one-half the level of the master. The dog actually controls the spell effect (although generally obedient to the will of the master), thus there is no possibility of the two ending up inside a solid object.]

As his horse comes to a stop, Jurgen melts to the ground. He tries to walk around, but ends up face first in the dirt. He lifts himself up, but finds the ground much more appealing and just lays there for a little while. Finally he decides to get up and wipes all the dirt off of himself.

He stands up and stretches his entire body. He makes especially sure that he can still move his arms and hangs. His legs, sure they were important, but they couldn't cast spells... Or could they? He'd have to ask Tumult. If, that was, Tumult turned out to be nice.

"Hey Sir Thomas. Unless you guys are really light, with all your gear, then I don't think Vus will be a big help. Unfortunately. Sorry! And maybe I should go talk with Tumult. Many reasons, actually. First of all. He's a dragon. Your a paladin. He is very evil. You are ultimate good. Even a kobold could do that math. I'm good. But I'm not 'good' good." He smiled, patting a hand on the knight's shoulder. "Also. I can take Vus with me and at the first sign of danger, Dimension Door away. That way, we should keep everyone alive until we HAVE to fight him. And, I'm part dragon. Way, way, way, way, way, back one of my ancestors was a dragon. At least that's how the story goes. It's why I'm a sorcerer. Josephine says... said so."

He then begins unpacking his bag. Within a matter of minutes, dozens of items all scattered all over the ground. From daggers to soap. All of it seems normal enough. Off to the side, he has a group of potions, scrolls and even a couple of wands.

"Ok. Here's what I've got. Take what you want. I won't be using it anyway... If Tumult hits me, I'm a crispy chew toy for him. I'd suggest that you take the wand of silence, because I'd never be able to use it. I was kind of hoping I could use it. But someone in the Wold," he raises his fist in the air, "doesn't want me to shush people up. Maybe it's a clue? Naw..."

-Cure Light Wounds Potion [2]
-Cure Moderate Wounds Potion [2]
-Potent Potion of Darkvision [10 uses]
-Potion of Haste
-Mage Armor [4]
-Spider Climb [2]
-Sleep
-Tenser's Floating Disk [2]
-Mirror Image
-Fly
-Dispel Magic
-Invisibility
-Light Wand (Fifty Charges)
-Silence Wand (Three Charges)

With that, he begins packing things up again, leaving the magic items on the ground. He ties his horse to a tree, or a big rock, or anything that he can other then the other horses or the group members. Then, finding a comfy piece of ground, he rests his eyes.

Will post in the morning. Spent too much time with sending out emails.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Tuesday December 24th, 2002 6:02:39 AM

Sly smiles at Ilsidor as he puts nine potion of Protection from Fire and One wand of Fire Resistance on a blanket. "Ahh! My once very close friend, Remember how close we were? We even died together! Someone has taken one of the wands and I have taken two of the potions. Next time we ride, Ilsidor, Let me help you off your horse. he he he" Sly fast moves beside Trace before Ilsidor can kick him.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday December 24th, 2002 3:12:07 PM

As Thomas takes one of the potions of protection from fire and one of the potions of cure moderate wounds he looks at Shiraz. "Shiraz, I think you should take that potion of haste. With that sword and your strength I think it would benefit us the most." He then backs off and sits comfortably drinking some water. "Jurgen, I understand you position about the negotiation, and you have two strong points, but I am quite a diplomat. I have been versed in the rules of such conversation [OOC: diplomacy +10], and though Tumult and I will never be friends, maybe we can agree to some terms that will benefit us both without us having to risk life through battle. Additionally, I don't propose to go up there alone, I think that would be suicide. I only propose to ENTER the cave before any of the rest of you so see if Tumult has any reasoning ability within him. That's all I'm saying." Thomas then breaks out some trail mix and begins to munch upon it. He offers some to his friends too.

Jurgen and Vus
Tuesday December 24th, 2002 7:29:55 PM

"Hmmm... That's a good idea. How much do you weigh? If your under about 200 pounds, I should come along. I promise not to be too annoying or anything. In fact, I'd be a good asset. Vus and I could take you away quicker than he could hurt you." He pets his faithful companion and then looks up to Sir Thomas. "And. While your talking with him, I can get a quick layout of his lair. I'll be able to get a plan going. Why not give him two targets, instead of just one? That way, he can't focus all his energy on you. Just a thought..."
