Wynn Brightsong d20=19 Tuesday January 28th, 2003 9:25:56 PM
Wynn's startles and his eyes briefly enlarge in obvious surprise upon hearing the gnome speak his name. Just as quickly he withdraws back into himself and mutters "Elerinn, alas poor Elerinn". A picture of his boyhood friend dying in his arms floods his mind. Wynn shakes his head and looks to the company.
"Pardon me my friends" he speaks, "I was caught unaware by the coincidence of meeting another Elerinn, especially after my dear friend of the same name was so recently taken from this life.... but that is the past" Wynn reaches out and rests his hand on Elerinn's shoulder. "Today I have met a new company of friends who I am sure will prove every bit as true and noble".
"As for the Green Coven", Wynn looks directly at Cadmar, "I have but recently returned to these lands after a long absence and I am not immediately familiar with this name. I will think on it. (Bardic knowledge 19+3)
Wynn sits down beside Thram on the grass, his longsword rests beside him in it's scabbard of tanned and dyed lizard skin. He rubs' at his short beard, apparently deep in thought.
Andrath Tuesday January 28th, 2003 9:50:24 PM
Andrath nods to the newcomer, and says, "Greetings, Wynn. My name is Andrath Silverhand. We are all newcomers to this group, as well." He thinks to himself, "Great, another talker. Hopefully this one is a little more interested in actions, and not just words!"
"Elerinn, it was me who gave you the 120 gp to help pay for the identification of the items. If you don't need any of it, I will pass it to Garrard, who I think spent a lot out of pocket for the wands and eagle eyes." [OOC: Jasper, let me know how much of the money Elerinn takes, so I know how much to give to Garrard.]
"As to which of these notices we might want to pursue, I think that we have promised to help Cassandra and the witches find their herbs, but I don't think that they need us for a few days. Maybe we can look into another one of these notices, provided it won't take too long. It doesn't really matter to me which one, although it would be interesting to attend the GREEN DRAGON training, to see what one of these seasoned vats looks like."
Garrard Wednesday January 29th, 2003 3:57:26 AM
Garrard quietly listens to the exchanges for a while, and then looks skyward. With a smile he raises his arm, and his hawk drops from the rest to alight upon his leather-clad arm. Garrard then returns to the conversation, absent mindedly smoothing the hawks feathers with a finger, and giving the animal a small bit of fatty meat from his pouch.
Cadmar Wednesday January 29th, 2003 5:14:21 AM
Cadmar nods to Wynn. "Uh, sorry. Recently I became a little bit paranoid. Uh, that's not true, I've been paranoid all the time. Only the last few days have given me more reson."
After reading one of the notices, Cadmar jumps up. "Oh no! Some poor lass has lost her husband to goblins! That sounds like a job for... uh, what are we going to call ourselves?"
Cadmar unwraps his Catacombs parcel.
Kedarn Wednesday January 29th, 2003 5:14:46 AM
"I feel that we did promise to help Cassandra. Let us check with her to see if there is time for us to attend the Green Dragon training before starting out on the mission for her" Kedarn comments.
Kedarn moves over by Garrard and says "I would take one of the wands of curing that you purchased for the group."
After talking with Garrard, Kedarn walks over and takes a seat by Thram and Wynn. Then Kedarn starts to casually watch the people in the area.
Lorth Wednesday January 29th, 2003 7:22:49 AM
Lorth smiles at his friend Cadmar, and nods in agreement, "Friends, I would like to help this poor farming wife and her husband. We cannot leave this poor woman to wonder about the fate of her loved one, what a burden it must be. I would even go as far as to put off Casandra's job, I should think she would understand. And if the stories I hear of goblins are true, we should set off immediatley, before they get hungry." Lorth then shoulders his pack, and stowes his gear, he looks to have made up his mind.
(OOC: what did you think the paladin would pick? :) )
Priorities (DM Cayzle) Wednesday January 29th, 2003 9:38:32 AM
Although Wynn has not been in the area for a while, he has heard tell of the infamous Green Coven. When the giant ruled the valley, it was rumored that the Green Coven entered into a pact or alliance with him. It is true that Witchspawn, the town that is the Green Coven's base, was less brutalized than the rest of the valley during those dark years. So whatever the Green Coven has done, the people of Witchspawn support the coven and have been grateful for the protection thay have given -- even if the price was to ally with the evil invader.
[OOC: Bob, let me know if you prefer bardic info like this via e-mail (for you to tell the group) or do you prefer me to post it with the turn, as above? Same goes, in the future, for results oc Auguries, Divinations, Commune spells, etc. (Although it is a good bet that the DMs will have rotated at least once before you all get high enough level to do Divinations and Communes! We DMs rotate games every year or so.)]
It is quick work to discover that Cassandra doesn't want the herbs until next week, and the Green Dragons will be in town in two weeks. So there is time before that to look into something else.
If you do decide to offer help to Hmary, here's some common knowledge. Jarlwolf Minor is a farming hamlet two hours walk south of Jarlwolf. It has a number of farms and maybe three other buildings. You can tell from her name that Hmary is a Hmana.
Lorth Wednesday January 29th, 2003 10:08:32 AM
Lorth looks at his friends expectantly, almost hopefully, waiting for them to speak or indicate that they will come along with him.
Kedarn Wednesday January 29th, 2003 10:47:05 AM
"Count me in Lorth, I will stand by you and Cadmar in helping the lady" replies Kedarn. "We should have enough time to help her before helping Cassandra" adds Kedarn as he finishes getting his gear sorted and packed.
Elerinn Wednesday January 29th, 2003 11:45:28 AM
Elerinn whispers to Wynn, as he lays his hand on the gnome's shoulder: "I'm sorry for your friend, Wynn. I know what it's like to lose someone close..."
Elerinn is quiet for a moment, but when Lorth speaks about the lost husband, Elerinn agrees with him, that this should be more important then their other possible missions right now. He follows Lorth, and looks at the others with hopefull eyes.
"Oh yeah, before I forget it. I've just identified the items. I had enough gold pieces to do it, and still have enough, so no one needs to pay me something. The three potions are all indeed cure light wounds potions, and the ring is a ring of protection +1. Since I cannot wear any armor, I could really use this little ring, but I guess all of us wants it..."
Thram Wednesday January 29th, 2003 11:47:30 AM
"Helping Hmary seems like the thing to do to me." Thram hops to his feet and looks around at everyone else, "Well, are we ready to go?"
Garrard Wednesday January 29th, 2003 3:05:34 PM
Shifting the hawk to his shoulder, Garrard hands one sheathed wand to Kedarn (27 charges of cure light wounds, I assume at level 5, as the craft wand feat has a minimum of level 5). He then offers the other to Lorth, and if refused, will strap it to his own belt.
"Anyone mind the Eyes going to Andrath? I have no claim on the ring. Whomever can use it is fine with me."
"I don't mind helping find this woman's husband, but I would like to stay within the time required to also complete the search for the herb. If the goblins have taken the man, they may have gone a considerable distance in a moon. So, I will go with the group to attempt this thing, but would like to be careful of time."
Brontinas Wednesday January 29th, 2003 3:15:31 PM
Still talking with Wynn in Elven at first he says, "The loss of a friend is a sad thing, cousin, I hope he has found peace."
In the more common language he looks around at Cadmar, "Considerations for names are unimportant. If the people of the lands feel the need to name us, then let them name us so, but to take on a name ourselves is arrogant and presumptious.
"Let us let that matter rest, I have a burning desire in my heart now to help this woman Hmary. I say we make our way at once!"
Wynn Brightsong Wednesday January 29th, 2003 6:29:13 PM
Wynn jumps to his feet and shoulders his pack. He is surprisingly agile for his 5'7" frame. A glint of gold flashes from beneath his shoulder length hair to reveal a single earring in the shape of a musical clef.
"This is truly a great day!" he exclaims. "We will no doubt make short work of rescuing this poor man from the goblins". Wynn beams in obvious anticipation of setting out.
"As for a name" he scans the company "Brontinas is correct, after we rescue this poor man the people of Jarlwolf will quickly provide us with one that we will all be proud to call our own".
He leans down and whispers to Elerinn "and if they don't I'm sure you and I can think up with something appropriate".
Andrath Wednesday January 29th, 2003 6:37:43 PM
Reading the notices at the board, Andrath feels the Catacombs parcel start to vibrate, and watches as the string magically unties. He opens the box to reveal a composite longbow, and an extra bowstring. He strings the bow, and tries a couple of test pulls. Then he smiles as if satisfied, unstrings the bow, and slings it over his shoulder along with the quiver of arrows.
He moves over beside Garrard, and says, "I used some of the money that we were given to purchase this longbow, but I have 120 gp left over. Let me give it to you to contribute to the items that you purchased for the party. Those healing wands were a great idea, especially getting two of them. As for those eagle eyes, my eyes are plenty sharp. I'll take them if you all insist, but I suggest someone else use them, since it might be worthwhile to have a couple of keen-eyed individuals in the group. And as for my opinion, Elerinn can keep the protection ring if he wants it."
Then he approaches Elerinn. "I'll take one or two of those healing potions, if that's OK. Just let me know how many you want me to carry."
"As to where to head off to this afternoon, I am all for some goblin-hunting. I never did like those smelly little scum, especially since the city guard and I had to clean a nest of them out of the basement of the Fish Oil Inn outside of Magpie Crossing. Lead on, Cadmar and Lorth, or should I say, follow me, if you can!"
Cadmar d20+3=22 Thursday January 30th, 2003 8:10:10 AM
"I lay no claim to the ring, Elerinn. May it serve you well. As far as the names are concerned" - Cadmar grins - "What do you think about <The Magnificient Nine>? No? Heh. You people know how to deny yourselves simple pleasures of life. Just kidding!"
"I assume we are going to talk to the lady first? Well then, let's be on our way."
Cadmar puts on a chain shirt and slings a brand new bow over his shoulder. "Now that I am wearing armor all the time I start to feel like an adventurer."
On his way to the hamlet Cadmar tries to recall all he might know about the goblin activity in the Valley: any known bands, approximate locations of hideouts, etc. [Knowledge:local, untrained: 22]
