Fallen Friends (DM Stephen) d100=5 d6=6 Wednesday December 25th, 2002 1:16:41 AM
A bright flash of light explodes amongst the party. The light momentarily blinds you all. You slowly begin to see again and before you are 5 maidens.
The look of great sadness is expressed upon their faces. No joy, no laughter, just the tear stained cheeks and red blood-shot eyes of mornful sorrow. Two of the maidens you all dont recognize. You have never seen them before.
Penelope falls to her knees weeping!! "Sorry, please forgive us. Tumult would not listen!! He attacked us and sent his horde of kobolds upon us. He killed Megan and Sarah. Burned be be beyond repairrr .....( weeeping)!!"
One of the maidens steps forward, " I am Catherine and she is Jessica, we are replacements and we accept our duty. However, we can not risk anymore injury. There are no more of our kind. We five must survive or there is no hope. Let us prepare ... for the end is nigh!!"
(party's initiative)
Sly Foxx and Luke Wednesday December 25th, 2002 9:09:36 AM
"Well! That answers our Question." Sly turns to the party (more towards Sir Thomas)"Live or Die. WE all go together, No saperations. He knows we are here Lets go."
Sir Thomas Wednesday December 25th, 2002 2:36:23 PM
"I don't see any reason to wait any longer. Let's go speak with Tumult. Shiraz, take that potion of haste with you." Thomas kisses Pryte-Honos on the muzzle, "keep safe" Thomas wispers to his mount.
Thomas double checks his belongings, "protection from fire, mace, shield, armor, rope, cure potions, helmet ... I think that's all I need," and starts up the mountain.
Trace and Radiant Wednesday December 25th, 2002 11:37:24 PM
Trace leans down and grabs a cure moderate wounds potion, flying potion, and fire resistance potion. Trace then moves to the front of the group and draws his long sword and holds the potion of fire res. ready. He takes his place up front so that he can use his ability to see in low light and find traps. Trace looks around at the others as he steps in, "Ok friends, in to the den we go, may Domi guide us."
Ilsidur Thursday December 26th, 2002 1:19:00 AM
"Wait a minute, young man," Ilsidur says to Sir Thomas, "you can't really be thinking about going in and trying to reason with that burning bag of gas, are you? Look at the way that he treated these maidens! Do you really think Tumult will just sit down and have tea with us, by Brodak's black beard! We will really only get one good shot at that creature, and that involves us having surprise. If we walk up and try to engage it in civilized conversation, we will lose that one shot! I say we try to sneak in, and catch the creature by surprise. And I agree, Shiraz should use the potion of haste. I have my own flight spell, and I have a wand of cure serious wounds, so I won't take any potions. The problem is going to be that most of us are going to be spending time healing ourselves, and not enough time damaging the dragon. Hopefully, we can spread ourselves out enough so that the breath weapon can't get us all."
He slings his waraxe and shield over his back, and readies his crossbow for the climb up the mountain.
Savin Thursday December 26th, 2002 10:24:37 AM
Savin will grab a potion of fire resistance if one is available.
"I will take the point. No offense to anyone but I have quicker reactions than you and should be able to deal with surprise better. Maybe if one of the dogs comes with me and can alert me to things he smells, that would be helpful?
I am not a mage so I am not sure how these spells work. If you cast a mirror image on me, how long will it last? I am thinking if the dragon sees 4 of me, he might be expend his breath weapon at me instead of you. I am more likely to survive it, especially with this." He holds up the potion of fire resistance.
Savin looks a little sheepish, and adds, "I didn't mention them earlier when selling items off, because I didn't think they were worth enough to sell but I also have 2 potions of moderate healing and 2 potions of bullstrength. I am not sure how the strength potions will work with the belt. Anybody know?
Savin walks over to the minotaur and hands him one of the strength potions. "This should make you even more mighty."
Savin jogs quickly about 25 yards ahead and starts up the hill.
Shiraz Thursday December 26th, 2002 10:36:47 AM
Shiraz stands and shrugs off his backpack. Placing it beside his hobbled horse,Shiraz looks around at his friends,"If this be it, and I believe it isn't, then it has been an honor to travel with you." Shiraz bows to each of his companions and smiles. The minotaur tucks a potion of protection from fire under his belt and 3 more potions of cure moderate in a pouch at his side. Shifting his armor slightly, Shiraz bows his head a soft murmuring can be heard,"Holy Imod, gives us strength of arms and tactics today, bless our aim and our hearts, guide our swords and protect us from evil, as you have always done, if this be our day to ascend unto you then let us go with valor and honor." Shiraz straightens up,"The only other thing I might need is a way to fly if one of you can help me with that?" Shiraz sets off following his friends.
DM Stephen Thursday December 26th, 2002 12:25:54 PM
(bonuses of the same type dont stack. both the belt of giant strength and the potion of bulls strength provide an "enhancement" bonus to strength and therefore do not stack. The highest bonus will take effect.)
Jurgen and Vus Thursday December 26th, 2002 8:19:07 PM
"Anyone who can't fly, but wants to... let me know. I can help four of you and then myself. Although, the only reason I'm going to be flying is to distract him and then finally throw trees at him." He laughes outloud as he imagines that sight. Him attempting to lift trees up and them being able to toss them at a dragon. A rather foolish idea if he didn't have the help if magic, that is. "It'll last for an entire hour, so lets hope that our battle with Tumult will go on that long. I've also got a few daylight spells. I'll put it on a few of your weapons, or something. And if mine are stronger then any darkness he brings, we'll be alright. Although a dragon is probably much better then me. We can hope though, can't we?"
He gets up on his horse and trots along side, if possible, Sly. He considers starting up a conversation, but decides against it. He needed to keep himself and everyone else calm. And Jurgen didn't exactly have a habit of doing so, easily.
Sir Thomas Friday December 27th, 2002 12:11:40 AM
"I don't know that we will ever have surprise Ilsidur. Tumult already knows we are coming, and I suspect he will be sleeping when we arive.
"As to your idea of mirror image Savin, it is a very good idea, but it is imperative to us all that we remember that Tumult is not a stupid creature. He is likely much more intelligent than all of us put together.
"Domi will guide us or he will accept us into his arms. We must only do our best to do what is right. Let's just climb and see what happens." Thomas tightens the straps of his backpack, looks up at the mountain that will tire the group before they face the mightiest evil they have ever thought of encountering, and he sighs. "We will all be ok ... there is no other option."
Into the breach!! (DM Stephen) d100=28 d6=4 Friday December 27th, 2002 12:14:48 AM
The trip up the mountain is uneventful. The well beaten trail of kobold tracks led you straight to the top of the mountain. In certain places, steps were even constructed for easier travel. It is like Tumult and the kobolds are inviting travelers and adventurers to his lair. The one thing you do notice on your way up the mountain is that the temperature is getting warmer. What started out as a cold and frigid morning turns into a warm and comfortable midday. Heat from the mountain becomes more intense as you travel upward. (The volcano walls become thinner the higher you go.)
The overcast clouds still loom over you and the sun does not shine through. Shadows seem to be creeping about. Something is definitely not right.
Once you all get to the top you can see the small lake that has formed on the ancient crater of the volcano. The water is warm to the touch, almost hot. The morning chill is completely gone but it doesnt make you feel that much better as you look upon a grizzly sight. The sight of a great battle. Kobold dead lie all around. Most appear to be bleeding from the ears, nose and eyes. Some are burned to a crisp.
A splash in the water alarms the group. Some kind of beast from the murky depths is dragging kobold bodies from shore and out to the middle to consume. Looks to be a once kobold pet that now feeds on its ex-masters. It doesnt appear to paying any attention to you all. It seems content munching on kobold flesh.
Across the lake is a large opening to a cavern. The area around the entrance looks to be charred and blackened from fire, smoke and ash. There is a trail that goes around the lake and ends at the cave. Kobold bodies lying closest to the entrance still smolder and crackle with sparks and smoke. The odor is horrible. Nothing is worse than burnt kobold flesh.
Other than all the dead kobold bodies, the gorging beast in the lake and the black and scorched limestone the scene looks completely nonthreatening.

OOC: Knowledge, nature - 20 and Wilderness Lore - 20.
As the party ascends the trail up the volcano cone, looking for prints of any kind, sound of anyone hiding. When sly and Luke arrives at the apex and seeing the Lake on the crater floor and all the Kobolt bodies lying about, Sly turns to Jurden, "I don't like this! That cave over there is where the entrance is But as you can see. Puff Puff has a very hot breath, very hard to escape that breath coming down the tunnel. Also I don't think that lake is safe to drink?? Look what in the water?? I wish I could see it better. If he likes Kobolt bodies, He's going to love us. Jurden I don't think we have any choice. I think that's the only entrance. Don't sound right, there should be another one or two."
Shiraz d20+1=9 d4+1=3 Friday December 27th, 2002 3:26:55 PM
Shiraz seaches the area looking for a different entrance<Search 9>. Drinking the potion of Bull Strength<+3 str> Shiraz softly speaks,"This isn't going to be enjoyable, unless we find a better way in." Turning to the maiden if they are near,"Is there another way in?"
Sir Thomas d20=6 d20=9 d20=9 Friday December 27th, 2002 3:32:41 PM
Thomas is sweating profusely due to the heat and his armor, and of course his nerves. His gloves crakle slightly as he tightens and loosens his grip on his shield and mace. He pulls out his potion of fire resistance and holds it in his shield hand; ready for quick consumption. He wispers to the group. "Let's spread out until we are ready to enter the cave. Let's look for an alternate entrance, that would help us flank the beast." Thomas walks cautiously over to the edge of the cave and peers into it as if it were the open mouth of a sleeping dragon.
[Rolled 6 + 2 WIS for Spot check; rolled two more checks for anything else that might be of use ... listen and search?]
Savin d20+7=12 Friday December 27th, 2002 9:03:03 PM
Savin will wipe his brow with his the back of his hand and look around the mountain. He doesn't like the look of the kobold munching monster in the lake. "Gentlemen lets get around this beast while it is preoccupied with his dinner."
Savin will start moving down the pass also looking for any other entrances. He concentrates on looking for smoke or steam which might lead to another entrance.
Jurgen and Vus d20+3=19 Saturday December 28th, 2002 5:44:37 AM [Profession [Miner]: Roll of 19]
Jurgen looks around the room and tries to determine if any part of it is especially weak wall or if the roof could be forced to collapse [providing that it's not a HUGE room. from what I get it seems to have a roughly reachable roof]. He tries to gauge a distance from the where they are, to the other side of the lake.
"This is bad... Very bad." He splashes a hand in the water, wondering if it'll attract the attention of the kobold-eating-beast. He pulls out his Light wand and casts in on a couple of rocks, dropping them down. He then tries to see if it gives him an better a view of down then.
"Someone will have to disract it, while everyone gets across... Vus and I could do that for a little while." He grins and waits for the group to decide.
Trace (64/64) and Radiant (12/12) d20+10=30 Sunday December 29th, 2002 5:03:41 PM
Trace moves about the area with fire res. potion in hand looking for any traps or secret passages that can be taken instead of the main entrance. (spot check of 30 also if he passes within 5ft of any trap he will see it.) Trace turns to the others, "I think if we take some of this kobald blood and smear it on us and try and move quitely into the cave we might be able to have a suprise attack on the beast. He will hear us coming and hopefully smell the kobald blood rather than our natural scent and not be in a offensive mode when we charge in on him. Also while we move into fight there needs to be a searcher for the ball that the crones need while the rest of us attack. That way when....(trace pauses for a moment) if we die it will not all be in vain. I will drink down fire res. and flying potion and attack all around him with my short and long sword. Radiant will be perched up on high. If someone sees the prize that we need let me know and I can send him down to fetch and return it to the crones. If and when we get that far our job then is not to let the dragon escape and chase down Radaint. Once Radiant returns the prize all will be solved. We shall be saved and the Crones at that time might be able to help us dispatch the beast. If Radiant dies I will be the runner with the prize. If I can make it back to my horse Tumlet will not catch me. With a bit of luck and the grace of Domi, I turly belive this can happen.
Savin Monday December 30th, 2002 10:19:47 PM
"I think the beast is distracted. Lets try to get by him while he is munching. I will go first." The enthusastic monk starts heading for the cave entrance keeping an eye on the monster ready to dodge if necessary.
The Quest in Fire!! (DM Stephen) d100=98 d6=1 Tuesday December 31st, 2002 2:36:42 AM
The lake, by Jurgens estimation, is about a little more than a 100 yards across. The water is steamy and has a strong mineral smell. However its hard to distingish from the scent of death. The water has a white film across the top. It doesnt reveal anything of its murky depths. Some dead kobolds lie floating in the water and simmer in the boil. The lake appears to be much hotter at the middle and bubbles churn at its center. The beast that is slightly obscured by steamy mist seems to be right at home and not affected by the heat. The chomping of meat and cracking bone makes you cringe. The beast, whatever it is, seems completely uninterested in your presence.
When you try and locate another entrance, you are disappointed by little springs of mineral water. They too are hot and produce a lot of steam but are mere cracks in the side of the mountain.
Trace notices no traps up to the caves entrance. He also doesnt find any other entrances either. The blood of the fallen kobolds has become thick and black against the hot rocky floor the volcano. However there is plently of it to go around. Its just really disgusting.
The maidens speak once again. "When we first surveyed this mountain, we searched for other openings into the lair. We found several places where there WERE openings but Tumult obviously had his kobolds seal up those openings with boulders and mortar. Quite impassible ... and most certainly will draw the attention of Tumult if we try to blast our way in. If that were even possible!! The only other possible entrance may be through the lake. It's hard to tell but the water appears to run deep. Of course, if you dont scald yourself to death, you may drown or be victim to the beast."
The closer Savin gets to the entrance of the lair, he has no trouble with traps or the beast. Near the mouth of the cave, the area is dusted in a fine grayish ash. Tracks of countless kobolds run through it. It is quite apparent that this is the main, maybe only, entrance to the lair. Again, the rocks and walls within the cave are blackened and charred from flame. A sulfuric smell fills your nostrils the closer you get.

(The artifact you seek is not an orb!! There are 5 artifacts you need to find. These artifacts that the maidens have described are: an eye, a nose, an ear, a tongue and a hand. They are all made of metal. The maidens have not told you what they will do other than merge with them. Without them, they can not take their place as guardians of the land. And therefore the land will fall into chaos and Kosh-Marr ... Forever!!)
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+1=20 d20+1=21 Tuesday December 31st, 2002 6:20:53 AM
With his Boots of Tracklessness Sly makes his way to the entrance. "All right Luke, you don't have to come with me. Your free to go." Luke still follows Sly. "All right then You can come with me, But you have to drink this potion first." Sly takes out two potion, in sly cup hand, he will give Luke the potion. Then he will drink the other potion. They both enter the cave slowly listening(20) and looking around hoping to spot(21) something. Not too far into the cave waiting for the others.
ooc: If somebody entered the cave before Sly. he will them for a little ways. Waiting for Sir Thomas and Trace for instruction.
Shiraz Tuesday December 31st, 2002 8:00:19 PM
Shiraz smiles softly as Sly frees Luke and chuckles as the war dog continues to follow his master. "I go as well my friend," Shiraz stops and drinks his potion of fire resistance and draws his 2 swords. "Let us start this dance, before the beast in the lake grows weary.
Savin Tuesday December 31st, 2002 10:06:30 PM
Savin will trot back to the group and say, "I believe the way is clear. It seems the kolbolds have fallen out of favor with their master or our maiden friends caused more problems then they are letting on. Shall we go beard the monster in his den?" Savin quaffs down his potion of fire resistance and head back towards the entrance pulling his light crossbow out and getting it ready,

DM Stephen: Clarifications Thursday January 2nd, 2003 12:32:57 AM
Ceil, the potion you took was a Protection from Elements (fire). I went and looked up your purchase in the Catacombs and you bought it at its base price. Therefore the potion does only the minimum amount of protection. Which is 60 points of fire damage (12points/level, 5th caster level).
Wade, if Shiraz took one of Sly's potions you get the same amount, 60 points of fire protection. Not 12 points/round.
We need to realize that Resist Elements (fire) and Protection from Elements (fire) are two different things.
Sir Thomas (AC 17, HP 59/59) d20=1 Thursday January 2nd, 2003 1:01:08 AM
Thomas whispers to someone who is close to him. "How long does this protection from fire potion last?"
Once he gets the answer, Thomas crosses the trail that circumvents the lake. He walks quickly, but cautiously and tries to keep his armor clanking to a minimum. He, like his friends, is intent on spotting the dragon at the first possible moment.
Thomas eases up to Sly's side. "You just shoot the dragon with that wand, we'll worry about it killing us or getting out of the way. It will not be your responsibility if it hits us. Just be sure that you hit the dragon if you hit nothing else." Thomas then offers a wink of confidence to the young elf.
[Rolled 1 + 2 = 3 for spot check; better now than in a few days right!]
"Well, I don't think we're going to get anywhere by watching the mountain erode. Let's go find our host." Thomas enters the cave ... cautiously and prepared for the worst.
[OOC: If the duration of the potion is longer than a few minutes or an hour Thomas will drink the potion. If it isn't, he'll wait until he thinks they are about to face the dragon.]
Into the Mouth of Fire (DM Stephen) d100=96 d6=4 Thursday January 2nd, 2003 1:37:52 AM
Instead of simply walking around the lake with the rest of his comrades, Jurgen decides to show off his new pet and teleports over to the entrance. Again, Jurgen feels disoriented and can go no further or do anything else this round.
Sly, Sir Thomas and Shiraz first enter the cave, the rest of the party are soon to follow (the tunnel is 10-ft wide and 10-ft high). A warm 80 degree breeze can be felt gently blowing by you and exiting the tunnel. The floor is soft and thickly coated with a layer of fine powder-like ash. The center of the walkway is matted down with kobold tracks. The corners of the floor and walls have drifts of ash almost a foot deep in some places. The walls and ceiling look like the inside of a chimney. Coated in thick gritty blackened soot. Its a sharp contrast to the white ash on the floor. (Everyone make a Wilderness Lore check and a Spot check)
About 20 feet inside the cave you can see a portcullis around 40 feet away. It is in the down position. Nothing can be seen beyond it other than the cave continuing into the distance as it curves to the left. The portcullis bars are wide enough for small creatures like kobolds to squeeze through. The sulfuric smell is getting stronger. At least it is masking the scent of death that lingers outside.
(Party's Initiative. The Protection from Fire potion lasts for 50 minutes.)

Thomas assesses the situation of the portullis and doesn't like the fact that they will have to open the gate to pass. He whispers to Shiraz, "Good idea friend. Do you think we could bend those bars instead of trying to open them? Savin has the girdle of giant strength, you are certainly a strong individual, and Ilsidur and I are stout for our races. I think we should try to bend them a bit so we could all squeeze through rather than open it because even if we silence it, there may be some kind of alarm on it. I think we should at least try."

Everyone eases in the cave slowly and cautiously. With every step, fine powdery ash spits little puffs of white into the air. Luke, however, is the only one who notices anything. Little pieces of hard white brittle "stuff" is mixed with the ash. Very hard to see!!! He paws at it and uncovers the remains of a bone. In fact the floor is covered with little pieces of bone!!
Sly, Sir Thomas, Savin, Shiraz and Isildur make it up to the portcullis. It is very crude in its construction. Must have been the work of the kobolds (an easy conclusion). It is so quiet ... something doesnt seem right. It is very unnerving.
Something isnt right about the portcullis either. A quick observation discovers that the porticullis isnt attached to anything from above. It isnt attached to slides and rollers on the left or right side either. Then what is holding it up?! What have these stupid kobolds done now? Dont they know how to construct a basic portcullis!!! It IS firmly mounted and holds against moderate tugging. Sly tries to squeeze through it but he is too big. Shiraz and others look for other ways to open the gate. No levers can be found. However, once Shiraz starts to kick around the ash he uncovers something strange at its base. The portcullis is hinged at the bottom!! It looks it should swing down upon them!!! Suddenly a boney humanoid hand griping the bottom of the gate can be seen!!! You all stop at for a few seconds, surprized by what you see. At that very instant, a wicked laughter fills the tunnel. A laughter that sounds very very close ... from a very large creature!!!!! Some of you quickly realize you are standing in a trap ... standing on the bodies of previous victims that have been reduced to ash. Only small fragments of bone remain. And then it hits....!!!!!
Suddenly there is the sound of a lever being pulled (Dragon "Readied an Action" to pull a lever once you all stepped into position. You are all surprized). With the sound of a loud clang, a 10-ft trap door opens up under Sly, Savin, Sir Thomas and Shiraz's feet, right in front of the portcullis. The trap door drops down and hits a 45 degree angled slope. Those who fail their save will hit the slope and slide 5-ft and then drop 5-ft straight down into a pit that is a total of 10-ft deep. (Sly and Savin make a Reflex DC 24 or fall into the pit. If you fail but roll within 5 points of DC, you grab on to the portcullis and hang from it if you wish. Sir Thomas and Shiraz make a Reflex save DC 20 or fall into the pit. Same options as the other two.)
Those who fall into the pit are cushioned by ash and bones of previous victims (so you take no damage). Ash billows up and obscures everyones vision. You all can only see for 5-ft in any direction.
At the same time the trap door opens below your feet, the portcullis falls over from above and closes the hole. Anyone fallen into the pit are caged liked animals. Anyone outside the cave see a great swell of ash billowing out of the tunnel.
(Surprise round. Dragon gets a partial action before anyone can act.)
A torrent searing cone of swirling flame comes shooting down the cave. The pit is designed and angled to accept the flame so those in the pit are not spared from its kiss.
(Those trapped in the pit have no where to run or dodge and can not save against the flame. For those unfortunate souls, they take the full 40 points of fire damage. Those outside the pit are allowed a Reflex save DC 22 for half damage. Those with Fire protection have all damage assorbed.)
Those who still stand in the tunnel can see once again. The flame had blown out most of the ash from the air. The tunnel that appeared to turn to the left up ahead was in fact just an illusionary wall. With the illusion gone, the tunnel now empties into a large chamber, just 40-ft past the portcullis. A huge red scaled beast looks back at you with firey eyes. A purely evil grin of grim satisfaction is on his face. Tumult hisses as he laughs at your predicament. He then ducks out of sight. His laughter continues to echo into the distance.

Trace turns and covers Radiant from the blast and is unable to dodge the fire. Luck would have it that the entire blast was absorbed by the potion's effects. When the dragon runs away trace cast resist elements on himself, (fire) then downs the flying potion. As trace is prepareing he calls down to the others, "Dont panic, I will fly you down some flying potions so we can go and get that wyrm." Trace's adrinlin is pumping due to his extream hatered for dragons.
(ooc: since resist fire and resist elements are diffrent spells I figured I could overlap them. Also since I could not escape the blast I put that my body shielded the blast from Radiant, if not then he is gone. if I cant drink the potion and cast the spell at the same time then the potion comes second.)
(DM Stephen - Resist Fire spell does not exist. Resist Elements (Fire) does and offers only 12 points of fire resistence each round. It doesnt stack with Protection from Elements (fire). Once Protection from Elements (fire) is depleted then Resist Elements (fire) will activate. But I advise you take another Protection from Elements (fire) potion.)

Savin decides that he is the most likely to survive against another breath attack from the dragon. He yells, "Get our friends out of the pit, I am going to go look for a lever."
Savin sprints ahead to where the dragon breathed his fire, his muscles are quivering, ready to react. He will look for a lever to release the bars once the trapped ones are out of the pit on the wrong side of the bars. He can then spring the trap again and his friends can join him.

Sly lets go of the bars and more or less slides down the open trap door and lets himself fall the rest of the 5' down at the feet of the others.
Sly was shielding Luke, now he look to see is the dog is hurt. "It's all right Luke, I don't like that Hot Head either. Is every body else all right? Now How Do We Get Out of Here?"

Thomas swings his mace at the portculis in an attempt to break a hole in it for their escape; if there is time. Jurgen [AC 18, HP 25/25 Darkvision, Mage Armor] and Vus [AC 16, HP 22/22] Friday January 3rd, 2003 7:50:02 PM
Jurgen, finally getting over the effects of Dimension Door, hears the party's frantic chatter. He feels a wave of heat, but is uninjured due to the nausea. It was both a blessing and a curse. Without him, the group would probably be stuck there. But had he gone, he would have most definately be toast.
He couldn't get them out, in fear of his own life. And even if he could, it'd be suicide. He couldn't possible take them all out... He'd be better off distracting Tumult. There weren't many ways to do that without putting himself in harms way.
"Hey Tumult. You want to know something interesting? You're one of my relatives." He looks down the tunnel and does a little bit of math in his head. He's about 70 feet away. Vus could go a maximium of 720 feet. So that's about 650 feet away from him, at the maximium. Magic missle certainly couldn't go that far... He was in definate trouble. "I know you're not above killing your own son, or grandson... But still. Makes you think, doesn't it? So, instead of having this long and pointless battle... Where some of us will die and others get injured horrible, why don't you just give us what we want? Because trust me, I don't have the nerve to die again. And even if I did, is your treasure so important that you would risk death?"
Meanwhile, to Vus, he uses their empathic relationship to give him a few commands.
'Take us over there. As far as you can away from him. Make yourself blink right now and then I want you to get away. Go help the group. Yes, I know you can't use your powers. But you can pull them out if they need it. Come on, boy, Do this for me. And if they group is quick, I won't be in any danger at all. Lets go, Boy!'
So quickly after his previous sick feeling, Jurgen begins to feel it again as he appears on the other side of Tumult. Instead of seeing his face, Jurgen can spot the dragon's tail.
Depending on where Jurgen is, if he can do anything at all, he does one of two things.
If he is on a treasure pile, around lots of it, he'll fall down and try to move it around. His goals it to make as much noise as possible with the treasure. He hopes that Tumult will come to protect his treasure as opposed to finish off the group.
If he is just in an open area, then Jurgen will start to scream and shout. Hopefully, that would distract the big dragon and give his friends enough time to escape whatever the trap was that they were in.

"Well, that hurt," he says to no one in particular.

Everyone in the tunnel and the trap choke from the billowly clouds of ash. The fire washes over everyone, everyone except Jurgen who is still outside the cave.
Still in shock, Sly didnt realize that he actually jumped clear of the trap in all the chaos (You did make your reflex save of 24 to avoid the trap. DM makes another save for Sly, Reflex 24). Sly and Luke were also able to avoid most of the fire damage (subtract 20 points from Fire protection) but the protective magical wards against fire seemed to assorb the remainder damage.
Savin also gracefully and with little effort sumersaulted out of the traps jaws. Amazingly, like some wild dance, he avoids all damage from the fire, but with all the acrobatics he becomes confused for a moment. However, like the sun breaking through the clouds, inspiration hits the young monk and he leaps over the portcullis and races to the entrance of the large chamber.
The chamber is completely black, Savin can not see anything!! Then suddenly from the left, red glowing eyes shine back at him. The dragon didnt leave!! It's still there!! The dragon begins to smile, a bright firey light glows from his throat and it partially illuminates the room. His body (10-ft away) is massive and almost fills the entire area. His right claw still massages a large lever mounted on the wall. You can almost read his thoughts ... fresh meat!! That is what he was waiting for!!!
(Attack of opportunity. Bite attack. Hit AC 32. Damage: 14 points. Free Action, Improved Grab. Grapple check: 52. Savin must make an opposed grapple check to break free. Roll base attack bonus + strength or dex bonus. If you beat 52 or roll a natural 20, you break free.)
Tumult grabs Savin and raises him 20 feet into the air. His laughter fills the air. Through his teeth he mumbles, "Ohhhh Ah tassta majic!! hahahahahaha!!" Savin feels a tongue licking his new belt!!
Back in the tunnel, the others struggle against the trap. Sir Thomas jumps up and strikes the portcullis with his mace. It dents a little. The area where the mace hits freezes over with ice. The hot metal of the portcullis steams and contracts from the instant cold. Then pow the pull of contracting metal snaps the latch ... the portcullis is loose!!! Shiraz can now reach up and lift the portcullis with a strength check.
Isildur downs his potion and helps Shiraz in lifting the gate. (If you assist Shiraz, you add a +2 to Shiraz's strength check, or you can attempt to lift on your own and make your own strength check.) Whatever Isildur decides to do the cold metal is very inviting at the moment.
Jurgen and Vus witness the carnage from outside the cave. With the fear of his friends parishing without him, he bravely rushes in shouting to distract the dragon. Once the large chamber is in sight, Jurgen and Vus disappear into the ether!!!
Jurgen finds himself in a hall standing in a circle with changing shapes and runes of a long forgotten language. The five maidens tower over him like giants. They chant words you can not comprehend. They're words follow no known structure, order or reason.
One maiden breaks from the chant and stares down at Jurgen. "A Dragon you once claim to be ... A fact that Tumult will not see ... Your bravery can bring you certain death ... may you face it with DRAGON BREATH!!!! With that been said, your tattoo burns a firey red. As a lone bell loudly tolls. The maidens open their mouths and beams of light shoot forth. The light twists and coils and shoots into Jurgen's mouth.
Then Jurgen finds himself engulfed in white light. When the light dies he finds himself in a empty chamber facing a dragon from behind. Tumult spins his head around with Savin in his mouth. Tumult is surprized ... he looks a little shocked!! Jurgen starts to shout what he meant to say ... but it shoots out as a SONIC BLAST!!! Every word pounds into the dragon. The blast slams the dragon into the wall. Several loose rocks from the ceiling come crashing down. The effects of the sonic attack shake the very mountain itself. Tumult appears shaken and drops Savin from his mouth. (Savin take 8 points of subdual damage). Tumult shakes his head. He lowers his head and covers his ears with his claws. "AIIIEEAAHHHH ... where you go ... where you go??!! I can't ...," he opens his eyes and looks around the chamber ... "YOU!!! You did this!!!" Tumult then lets loose a deafening ROAR of pure rage!! He then turns his back on the tunnel to face the Jurgen. "Whatever you ARE ... LET'S SEE IF YOU TASTE LIKE A DRAGON!!!" The dragon appears to be positioning himself for a massive bite attack. The light from his throat is glowing brighter!! Vus quickly disappears!! Jurgen can do nothing but look on ... the disorientation from the teleport finally kicks in.

If Thomas has action left, he will start to run down the corridor toward Tumult, brandishing his mace high above his head readied for an attack.

"Grab hold of me, and lets get away from that creature! Take another big breath, and blast him again!" If Jurgen does not want to be picked up and moved, Ilsidur will continue past him and into the room, to figure out the best course of action for next round.
Jurgen [AC 18, HP 25/25 Darkvision, Mage Armor, Disoriented] and Vus [AC 16, HP 22/22] Monday January 6th, 2003 7:37:01 AM
Jurgen, however disoriented or scared as he was, almost laughed at the effect of his speech. He had said hoped to confuse Tumult, enough so that the rest of the group could attack. Instead he got an attack of massive preportions. He had the breath of a maiden. Many might laugh at that, but he knew its true power now. Chaos flowed through his veins, a power unlike any other. It was wild, untamed and supreme. If there was one draw-back, it was recklessness. And an inability to know when to draw the line. Which Jurgen showed, stunningly. He was a show-off and that had kept him safe while his friends got hurt. So, instead of helping them out, he distracted the threat.
Looking at the pure anger and fury of a dragon, there was a brief vision of reconsidering. There was so much to live for. A thousand things Jurgen could do with his life. Wander the land, learning from everyone he met. Become a sage, albeit a strange sage. There was so much... He would be foolish to stay. He would be insane to try and face this dragon.
Yes. Perhaps he would be. But it was his calling, regardless of how much he wanted something else. Jurgen Strumjager's part in life was to fight. He was to defend the weak, protect the innocent and to save those who could not save themselves. He had not chosen this path, nor could he just walk away. There was a duty to those who needed it. His name was Jurgen Strumjager, a Child of Chaos, and he would fight!
The dwarf, Ilsidur, flying towards him wasn't an option. Unfortunately, he could not stop Tumult and get away at the same time. Jurgen gives Ilsidur a faint smile and a reassuring wave. Keeping his mouth towards Tumult, he tries to speak in a frantic voice. "Keep going..." That dwarf needed to stay alive! He would heal the rest of the group, if he wasn't too worried about Jurgen. Damn! "The other... Children!" He finally says, pointing towards his friends who were behind the dragon.
And to Tumult's last yell, the boy shouts out. "I am Jurgen Sturmjager, a Child of Chaos, and I taste like Death, Tumult. I am it's bringer. To all who oppose good and there-for, oppose me. You still have the chance to escape. To leave with your life." And then Jurgen sets himself up for the attack that will bring him great pain. He hands go into his belt pouch and he holds steady. "Ready for you, I shall be. No blade or magic, can you see. To you, I do bring painful death. From in your mouth, upon your breath."
[I'm nearly quotable... ;)]

Saliva drips from his long fangs as Tumult eyes the young sorceror. He eases closer and closer.
Savin regains his feet and strikes into the dragons leg. One hit actually connects and does damage!! "AUUGGH ... ," growls Tumult as he turns his glance to Savin. "The Itty Bitty ankle-biter has teeth," he bellows as he swipes through Savins area with his long tail. (Tail Slap. Hit AC 21 for 23 points of damge. sorry ... he almost missed!!).
Isildur takes to the air and tries to move to Jurgen while the dragon is distracted by Savin. Alas he only has enough movement to get to Jurgen and nothing more.
Tumult then turns his head back to Jurgen and Isildur. The firey glow from his throat burns brighter and brighter. WHAM!!! Tumult screams in pain as great hailstones pound into him from behind!! (Ice Storm. 3d6 impact damage, 2d6 x2 cold damage.) Tumult screams and hisses in pain. Behind Tumult standing in the tunnel entrance is Sly with a Rod of Ice Storms. A cold swirl of mist still lingers around the rod.
Tumult roars in pain from the icy attack. He then turns and moves toward a wall. He disappears through it!! (Isildur and Savin get attacks of opportunity. One melee attack.) Everyone hears Tumult's footfalls as he stomps away deeper into the lair. All goes quiet in the large chamber.
Trace, Sir Thomas, and Shiraz have time to climb out of the trap. Shiraz holds up the portcullis while the others climb to freedom. Vus pops below Shiraz in the pit and bites his ankle. They both disappear and reappear next to Jurgen. Vus is happy to see Jurgen in one piece and jumps into him with his tongue wildly licking his face.
You all have a chance to enter the chamber. The room is circular and is close to a 100-ft in diameter. The entrance to the chamber is 10-ft above its floor. There is a walkway 5-ft wide at the entrance level. The walkway follows the curve of the room. On the east side of the chamber is a ramp that allows easy passage down to the chambers floor. Those without darkvision will need to use a light source. Those who wish to look around will notice that this room looks to be grand central station for the lair. There are tracks of kobolds everywhere. Tools are left behind. Next to the tunnel entrance are rakes, shovels and buckets. They are coated in ash. In one corner are a pile of humanoid bones. There is a large (dragon-sized) lever mounted onto the wall next to the entrance, 20-ft above the chamber floor. (everyone make listen and spot checks.)

Trace flies around passing them out and keeping one for himselfwhile sheating his short sword to accomidate. Trace offers a cure light wounds potion to Savin (12th level) While trace moves about the room he keeps his eyes open for anything and also strats to look and see if there might be treasure in this room. Other than the ash covered rakes, shovels, buckets and the pile of bones at one end the room is kept relatively clear. No treasure to be seen. Its obvious that this is not the treasure room. Sir Thomas (AC 17, HP 44/59, fire 60) Tuesday January 7th, 2003 9:40:06 PM
Being covered in white ash does not show his teeth as well as if he was covered in black soot, however, it is obvious to everyone that the knight is smiling from ear to young human ear. He approaches Jurgen, grabs his face, and kisses him on the cheek. "That is by far the bravest thing I have ever witnessed ... not to mention the impressiveness of the attack. It even gave me a headache."
He then offers a hand to Savin, "I have only a little of Domi's healing left to me for today, but it is yours. I only wish I had more to give. Your acts were no less brave than Jurgen's. Thank you both. Do you need more assistance Savin? What about anyone else? Is anyone dangerously injured?" (Lay on hands 3 hp to Savin)
"Let's keep our wits about us friends. This wyrm is obviously much more cunning than we had given him credit for at first. He'll likely be recovering his strength as we are trying to do, so we'll need to hurry if we want to finish him. Stay alert my friends. Let's travel in two distinct groups, that way the next trap only has the possibility of taking half of us with it. I'll go with the first group ... this mace is itching to taste dragon flesh."
Thomas adjusts his basinet helmet as sweat begins making trails down his face and takes some of the ash with it. Thomas then checks the straps on his armor, and takes a deep breath. "... and holding the broken blade above their heads, the Children of Chaos traveled deeper into the depths, into the jaws of death ... all for the glory and the good of the Wold." Thomas walks cautiously, but quickly up to the wall that was identified as the exit of the dragon. He reaches out and feels the wall. When his hand travels through it, he follows it around until he identifies a wall that truely is solid. He then crosses through the wall, feeling his way until he can hold Trace's torch high and look down the tunnel. He reports what he sees to those behind him.

"You were right Sly, it was both dangerous and stupid. But at least everyone else is still here now. From what I get, everyone was trapped. I think Tumult could have gotten off another breath on them. They would have been injured or killed. Luckily, the Maidens gave me that scream. Even if they hadn't, I would have had to face Tumult on my own. Regardless of what you say now, having me die would have been a much better choice than having everyone die." He sighs, looking to his feet. "... I am afraid. Looking Tumult in the face, that is a greater fear then I've ever had. I acted as I knew I had to. Given a choice, I would do it again... But I'm still scared." Vus nuzzles up against Sly's leg, as if saying he's alright. Between Jurgen and the dog, there seems to be a hidden conversation going on.
Rummaging through his bag, Jurgen pulls out quite a few potions. He gives three to Savin[Cure Moderate Wounds x 1, Cure Light Wounds x 1], one to Ilsidur[Cure Moderate Wounds] and one to Sir Thomas[Cure Light Wounds]. "Curing potions. If I had more, I'd give you more, Ilsidur. Unfortunately, this is all I have. I suggest that you, my faithful friend Ilsidur, go in the rear party. That way, if the front gets injured, we're not completely messed. And thank you, for trying to get me out of there... But I would not have gone, I'd have stayed and made sure Tumult couldn't hurt the rest of the group."
"Thank you, Shiraz. Your respect means much to me. But you all would have done it, if you had the chance." He says simply, but with meaning behind his words.
"Everyone without Darkvision, drink this." He hands Trace a potion bottle that is a tad bigger than most. "It's got enough for nine more people to gain Darkvision. That means we'll all gain something from it. Drink up." Then he follows behind Sir Thomas, not saying a word for many seconds. The boy just stays close to the knight, feeling a little bit safer.
"Thank you. But had you the chance, would you have not distracted the massive beast? I believe you would, and you wouldn't have let it run away. I'm sorry..." He looks downward again, then changes subject quickly. "We should get down there fast. The longer we wait up here, the more time he has to heal himself and prepared for us, the more work we have to do."
While Sir Thomas reports to the group, Jurgen shouts down the tunnel. "I told you, Tumult. We have true power. We will not be stopped by you. You wonder what I am? I give you the chance to find out. Give up this fight, we will let you go on in peace, our duty is to saving this Southern Continent. Whether you give in, we will win."

Ilsidur smiles at Jurgen's obvious discomfort from the compliments and admiration of the party. "Young one, you have shown yourself a true hero today. I have no need for your potion, I can cast spells on myself, and I have a wand that I can use when needed. Keep your potion for yourself, I think you will need it if you continue to throw yourself headlong into danger. Or give it to Savin; it might boost him up enough to survive being a dragon snack again."
Then Ilsidur flies along after Sir Thomas, casting a cure serious wounds spell on himself as he goes. [OOC: convert 3rd level spell Negative Energy Protection, healing 28 hp damage.] "I better keep that other young lad in sight; I'm sure he is going to need help very soon," he thinks to himself. Ilsidur follows along the route taken by Sir Thomas, through the wall.
Downward Spiral (DM Stephen) d100=6 d6=4 ouch!! Wednesday January 8th, 2003 1:48:49 AM
The group met together on the chamber floor. After some healing and celebratory pats on the back, Sir Thomas and Isildur get back to business against the west wall.
Sir Thomas finds the second illusionary wall. His hand passes right through. The paladin measures the width of the opening and gauges it to be about 30-ft wide. He isnt tall enough to know how high it goes.
One look through the illusion reveils a corridor sloping down in a circular fashion. Isildur, being a dwarf, easily determines that the downward angle of the passage is a 35 degree angle. It looks much like a spiral stairway without the steps. It also looks to have been carved out of a natural cavity. However the craftsmanship doesnt look within kobold ability. Movement will have to be slow, because one false step could send someone stumbling down the spiral hall. (movement is cut down to half speed) Makes you wonder what dark designs Tumult has up his sleeve!!
After Jurgen shouts down his challenge ... little gasps, hushed murmurs and the patter of tiny feet can be heard, but nothing can be seen. Sounds like rats inside the walls, but its easy to assume they are kobolds. Some noises sound like the muffled cries of their young!!
Further investigation of the ash and some of you realize that you are covered the ashes of previous victims!! Savin finds a human tooth caught in a fold on his clothing. Luke fills the air again with another cloud of ash as he shakes it off.

When Trace passes the bottle of darkvision to Thomas he takes a quaff and passes it to the next party member until, hopefully, it makes its way back to Jurgen. "Thanks." Thomas states. Now that he is back to the business of hunting dragons his smile and humor and demeanor have all left; replaced with the stoicness of an older paladin.
Thomas takes time to warn his friends of the grade, "be careful when you come through that wall. It gets pretty steep back here." Thomas also snuffs the light from the magical torch that Trace gave him, but he wraps a spare piece of cloth around it and keeps it in his shield hand. "Legend huh? Well Trace, I can't think of any better company to become legend with than those who are here. Is it hard to follow a dragon's foot prints?" Somehow, Thomas sticks a little dry humor into a situation where it doesn't belong.
Thomas eases his way down the spiral tunnel; his nerves as tight as an E string on a guitar.

Slip and Slide (DM Stephen) d100=88 d6=3 Thursday January 9th, 2003 2:03:04 AM
Everyone enters the spiral well. The walkway is 20-ft wide and follows the circular curve of the outer wall. Center of the spiral well is open air and you can look all the way down. The walkway has a upward lip on the open air side (does anyone need a diagram or is this self-explainitory?).
There is the faint glow of red at the bottom. It is apparent that it is a stream of lava. The further down you go, the hotter it gets!! Everyone can fly so traveling down the spiral is relatively effortless. Well, all except Luke and Vus who are still on foot. Vus though blinks in and out only having to catch himself when reentering.
Savin and Vus fly and blink off ahead. However the passage remains clear. At the bottom (which is about 200-ft down!!) the walkway ends at the lava stream. The lava stream is 20-ft down from the walkways base and is 50-ft across. On the other side of the lava stream is a solid natural rock wall. This appears to be a dead end.
Suddenly a loud cranking noise from the top of the spiral well can be heard. Right around the time the majority of the group is halfway down. Then you hear the rush of water!! You all have plenty of time to swoop down and grab Luke and Vus. (Whoever picks up the dogs wont be able to cast spells that require somatic components. Both dogs are medium-sized and require both hands to carry so therefore no melee or ranged attacks ... except for Shiraz, who can hold one with one arm!)
Water starts to rush down the spiral walkway. You all now realize that it was designed to allow water to flow down it. The water makes it down to the bottom and pours into the lava stream. The air is filled with a thick hissing steam. If not for the Fly spells, you all would certainly have rode the water down and into the lava. You all sigh with relief, but then you realize there is a secondary pitfall to this situation. Being in a hot, sticky and enclosed place, the steam begins to accumulate and you all find yourselves obscured in mist. You only have 10-ft visibility in all directions. Everything becomes wet and slick except the stone 30-ft from the lava (which evaporates instantly from the intense heat).
Trace knows the dragon came this way. The dragon's claws left slight scratches in the stone as he stomped away. Luke confirms this with his scent. However it is getting hard to concentrate from the heat. (Within 40-ft of the lava flow, you take 1d6 points of fire [heat] damage per round. Half way down the spiral you must make a Fort Save DC 15 or take 1d4 points of Fire [heat] damage. You may subtract damage from your fire protection. Everyone make 3 Fort. saves DC 15. Take 1d4 for each failure.)

Having been tricked by the dragon's illusionary walls before, Thomas formulated a plan. He found the edge of the last tunnel opening in order to wipe his hand down it as they walked (or flew) down the spiral. Therefore, if the dragon ducked behind an illusionary wall before they got to the bottom, Thomas would know.
As the water comes rushing down, Thomas already has an idea of what is going on ... or so he thinks. "Someone grab those dogs. I'm flying across that lava pit. If I smack into that wall, it's going to hurt, but if my hunch is correct, that wall isn't really there. I'll tell you what I see when I pass through."
Thomas does exactly as he says he will. He flies directly at the wall, but he flies feet first (if that's an option) so as to avoid hitting the wall with his face. He flies as fast as he can to avoid lingering in the heat of the lava pit, and he prepares for an impact that he doesn't believe will come.

Sir Thomas finds no illusionary walls on the way down the spiral. Every spot the Frost mace touched became slightly coated in ice, but quickly melts.
Sir Thomas then tries his plan to find the illusionary wall from across the lava stream. After he travels 10-ft away from the nearest party member, Sir Thomas becomes obscured by the mist.
The party doesn't witness what else happens to Sir Thomas. Although everyone keeps a open ear for trouble, its hard to listen through the hissing steam and running water. (Everyone make Listen and Spot checks and whatever you think might help!)
Sir Thomas braces himself to hit the stone wall in front of him. He decides to go in feet first. Sir Thomas holds his breath the speeds through the wave of intense hot air and steam (take 5 points fire damage). "Tumult, you want to fight us? Then fight us as if you were truely deadly. Don't hide behind smoke and mirrors. Sir Thomas is but one of many of us. He knew going into this that he may die, but his death will not be in vein. You don't seem to get it. Our magic is useful, our swords are allies, but our true power comes not from trinkets of silly men. We are strong because we will not stand for evil to win. So, you want a fight? Then you will have one. But don't fight with these," he scoffs, giving a wink to the party, "lesser beings. FIGHT ME, Tumult. I want to see if you can bring me down. I want to see if you are really that powerful. The group of us, can take you with little problem. But what if I were to assure you that they would leave out of it." He looks at his friends and shakes his head, trying to inform them of his lie. He could not take Tumult alone, he knew that.
[Intimidate Check[? I don't know. I made a charisma check, since I have no bonuses. And you know what I want to do, of course. I'd say a bluff check, but it's not quite... Hmm] - Success if DC 18 or lower]
Then he quickly changes angles. This time, directed at the followers that Jurgen hopes he heard. "If not... then think about this. All of your followers. Your kobold 'friends'. They will all be wasted in this attack. In fact, their deaths will mean nothing. Every last one of them. They may be loyal to you, but loyal up to a point. If everyone is killed by your foolish actions, why should they follow you? One of them could speak up and then they would all be against you. Prove to them why you are worthy of their worship. Or you will be forced to carry out your own menial tasks... Tumult, this battle will be the beginning in a tide against you. You cannot win because in the end, I'm stronger. WE are strong. All of us, could destroy you. And we will, if you do not give in."
While giving his speech and half-scam, Jurgen uncorks a potion and drinks up when he finishes. He would spend the the entire day just talking with Tumult, if it would keep him distracted. He feels the deep burns heal over, nearly instantly, and lets them cure over 100 fold faster then normal.

[Use another hero point . . . I have a cuss word for this situation. Rolled 7 still not likely to to be good enough to beat a DC 15.
[I think I have 4 hero points. Can I use them all if I need to? Rolled 11 + ? Will save = ? At least there's a chance for me to resist him now ... I only need a + 4 Will. I'll write it both ways and you can edit it Stephen.]
[Rolled 19 + 10 diplomacy = 29]
Once he is grasped, Thomas knows he is in a lot of trouble. Just when Thomas thinks he is going to die, the dragon starts to reason with him. Thomas quickly interjects. "We don't want your treasure and we don't want to kill you. Hear me out." Once grabbed, Thomas only resists enough to prevent being crushed, he does not try to escape the dragon's grasp ... while the dragon is being reasonable. Hopefully, the dragon will stay his course and the two will reason out the situation.
--- If the resist roll failed --- Thomas sees the dragon's glowing eyes looming in the mist, but it is hard for the young paladin to make out all of the beast's face. It is the eyes that lure him. He finds himself being drawn into them, and thinks that he and his friends have completely misjudged this situation. He hears Tumult ask him to call his friends to him so they can reason out this situation. Thomas thinks, **this is great, we don't have to fight any longer ... the dragon is willing to reason.** So he calls to his friends, "Friends, I'm here! It's safe! It's not so hot in this tunnel here."
--- IF the Will roll succeeds --- Thomas sees the dragon's glowing eyes looming in the mist, but it is hard for the young paladin to make out all of the beast's face. Thomas feels the draw of the dragon's intent and wants to reason with the beast. He wants to trust the beast and call his friends to a meeting to try to prevent any further risk of harm, but he knows the wiles of the wyrm ... he knows the danger involved in trusting something so evil. Thomas hesitates ... but only for a second. He starts with a soothing tone, but then it turns into a frantic war cry. "Friends ... SHOOT ME WITH YOUR WAND! SHOOT AT MY VOICE!!! Tumult has me in his grasp!! SHOOOOOOT MEEEEEEEEEE!" Thomas contniues to scream while Tumult holds him captive. The way Thomas figures it, he'll be mostly protected by the dragon's massive claw, and his friends will come to slay the dragon and the Wold will be saved. No matter where Tumult goes, Thomas will be a beacon for his friends to kill him.
If Tumult lets him go, Thomas will attack the beast. [Attack of Opportunity: Rolled 2 ... stupid luck!]

(sir thomas can add +2 to any roll with a hero point as well. you pass your save.)
Sly gets the idea of cooling the lava. He lets a icy blast fly. Hail stones shoot into the lava. However the hailstones are reduced to steam upon impact. The slightly cooled area on the lava stream continues to flow by and then kickly melts back to its red bubbling state. (like i said before, the Ice Storm spell only does 2d6 cold damage and 3d6 impact damage. The lava river produces far far far more heat than that. nice idea anyway.) The area feels no cooler than before. ---------------- (Back at the dragon) Sir Thomas fights off the spell and sees the Tumult for what he really is. Everyone hears Sir Thomas yelling about firing in his direction, "SHOOT ME, SHOOT ME," and the enraged roar of the monster. It comes from the rock wall directly at the end of the path, across the lava stream.
(anyone who makes a Will save DC 14 disbelieves the illusionary wall and can see through it)
Tumult looks down at Sir Thomas and growls, "FOOLLL.... YOU WORTHLESS ITTY BITTY ... You will beg to die!!! I shall decorate my lair with your innards while your heart still beats ... lets seee how red your blood runs!!!" Tumult continues to squeeze Sir Thomas. Tumult grits his teeth as he strains to increase the pressure of his vice-like grip. Sir Thomas can feel his claws digging deeper into himself. (automatic hits since you are still held. Grapple check 45. 32 points of damage. Make opposed grapple check, d20+11.)
(party's initiative. The lava stream is 50-ft across. The dragon with sir thomas is 30-ft within the hallway. Your movement/round while Flying is 90-ft. If wearing med. or heavy armor it's only 60-ft.)

At the sound on Sir Thomas and his screams, Jurgen looks towards the wall. Without batting an eye, he realizes that it is false. And before him, the wall disappears. Unfortunately, the rest of the party would have to figure that out on their own. But he could help give them a clue that reality wasn't as it seemed.
Pulling the feather tokens out of his belt pouch, Jurgen speeds forward. He goes the full 80 feet to right near Tumult. Seeing Sir Thomas being squeezed and crushed into oblivion, Jurgen does exactly what his original plan was. He flies straight towards Tumult's mouth and prays that he'll be given a chance to get in.
--- If He Successfully Navigates Into Tumult's Mouth ---
When Jurgen see's the dragon's tongue, up close and personal, he prays that he will be able to work the way he intended. With a quick flick of the wrist and a toss of the two coin like objects, Jurgen curls into a ball to protect him from anything fowl that may arise from two tree's sprouting from Tumult's throat or stomach.
[Ranged Attack Roll: From Inside The Dragon - Hit If AC is 23[and 23 for the second one too] Or Lower - Weapon: Quaal's Feather Token [Tree]]I'm unsure if the roll was needed, but I made two rolls in case they were needed. Look at that. Three 23s on d20 + 6... Insane!
--- If He Fails To Reach Tumult's Mouth ---
Cursing loudly at his failure, Jurgen instead goes right above Tumult's head and drops one of the tokens. If he couldn't get it inside the dragon, then he'd have to force it to let go of Sir Thomas some other way. Unfortunately, he'd have to use one of the last ways of damaging the dragon he had. Time seems to slow down for Jurgen and the feather token seemed to float to the ground instead of fall.
[Ranged Attack Roll - Critical Failure of 7]
If it missed, it'd be an effort wasted... Still, he had one more. And if he could get Tumult to swallow him, then the dragon would be in for a great suprise... Worthless Itty Bitty, indeed...

Being held quite firmly, and in fact crushed, by the claw of the dragon, Thomas does the only two things he can in this situation. First, Thomas smiles a wide grin of triumph. Being unable to speak because of the crushing grip of Tumult, he lets his friends know that he does not regret having played this part.
Secondly, he prays while concentrating on his tattoo. It had saved him and his friends before, and it seemed to be the essence of their existence since the time they were unable to prevent the ringing of the bell. He hoped Domi would see to empowering the maidens to ring the bell for him now as they had done before.
Thomas prays silently and hurriedly while forcing a chill to run down his back despite being in such a hot environment. It is this cold feeling that he hopes Domi embraces. *Domi, Defender, Courageous. I have been faithful even until my final hour. I faced my foes with courage and diplomacy, even trying to reason with this dragon while in his fowl clutch. I have served you with the best of intent, loyalty, and understanding. Accept me into your arms. Cherish me as one of your house. Smite he who would carry oppression into the Wold upon his wings!*
Upon concluding his prayer, Thomas bites the dragon's scaled finger as he struggles to find air.

[OOC: Stephen, in my last post, I had Ilsidur flying across the steam-filled cavern chasing after Sir Thomas, so I presume at the start of this round, Ilsidur is up against the illusionary wall, somewhere in the general vicinity of where Sir Thomas passed through.]
Ilsidur concentrates hard, trying to figure out why Sir Thomas' voice is coming from behind a wall. [OOC: First roll vs illusion was an autofailure, but I used Ilsidur's domain power to reroll, succeeding with the second roll, with a 16.] He realizes that it is probably another illusionary wall, and flies right through it.
He sees Sir Thomas in the grasp of the dragon, and flies directly towards the paladin. "Hold on, young Tom!" he shouts. He flies across, pulling the wand of cure serious wounds from his belt, and touches the paladin. [OOC: Not sure if a roll is needed to make touch contact with a grappled person, but I rolled a natural 20 anyways, so I figure Ilsidur should be able to make contact.] The spell from the wand heals the paladin for 14 hp. He grins up at the dragon's face and shouts, "Here come the itty bitties, and your lifetime is now numbered in seconds!"

(ooc note: this module is extend past this week until we finish or the dragon finishes you!!) --------------------- The dragon looks down at Sir Thomas as he continues to squeeze the life out of him. Expecting cries of pain he sees nothing but the big smile of Sir Thomas. It shocks him!!! For the first time in his life he doesnt know what to think! Suddenly, his mind is back in the battle and Tumult sees Jurgen flying toward him. (Int check 22, spot check 27 nat. 20, Sense motive 26). Jurgen sees the spark of an intelligent mind staring back at him. Jurgen knows the dragon senses what he is trying to do. Tumult grits his teeth and growls. When Jurgen flies within his reach (10-ft), Tumult slaps Jurgen away with Sir Thomas. Both going flying over to the the dragon's left side. (Attack of opportunity. attack with object [thomas] at -8 penalty. Hit AC 23. Both Jurgen and Sir Thomas take 12 points of damage.) Tumult releases Sir Thomas upon slinging him into Jurgen and both are sent to the floor in each others arms.
Having delt with Jurgen and Thomas, Sly flies forward uninterrupted (no attack of opp. from dragon!!) and lets loose another blast of icy hail stones. The ice slams into Tumult and does minimal impact damage but the ice doesnt seem to harm him from this attack.
Trace also races forward and hits Tumult. You notice that the majority of the ice damage melts away harmlessly but a little bit stings Tumult and he winces in pain.
Tumult is unable to stop Savin as he charges (a charge gives you a +2 to hit. consider this a freebe.) in and connects with a powerful kick. Tumult grabs his leg ... "Owww!!"
Shiraz follows up and charges in behind Savin with his dragonbane sword drawn (Hit AC 36 for 27 damage.) The dragon roars in pain.
Isildur flies to Sir Thomas and gives him a quick heal. Still the dragon can doing nothing to stop him. (strategy hint)
Everyones tattoo begins to vibrate and burn. Suddenly the bell tolls, "DONG... DONG ... DONG... DONG!!! The sound fills the air with waves of sound that seems to distort your vision. Tumult roars with his claws to his ears ... "WHAT MATTER OF TRICKERY IS THIS," he bellows?!
Everyone begins to fell a little disoriented. Visions and sounds fill your minds and ears. Suddenly each one of you can hear the others voices in your mind. The visions you see are of you all fighting the dragon in the hallway. Except the views of the hallway are from different perspectives. Some views are to the left of the dragon looking up. Some are in front of the dragon. One is looking down at Sir Thomas. Another view is back away from the dragon near the entrance!!! What is going on!!? Slowly these visions that flash by your eyes begin to merge and become as one. Same with the voices you hear. As you try and speak, everyone begins to speak with you like a choir!!! All saying the exact same thing in perfect time!!! (Wisdom check everyone)
You feel yourself becoming more aware of your surroundings and the dragon (+4 AC to everyone).
Tumult not wasting anytime, inhales and lets loose a searing cone of flame. (Fire breath. 55 points of fire damage. Everyone Reflex save DC 24 for half.
Tumult then backs out of the walk way and disappears around the corner. (Trace, Shiraz, and Savin get an attack of opportunity. One melee attack only.) Shiraz attacks and hits Tumult again!! (Hit AC 28 for 21 damage.)

Jurgen Sturmjager [Dead, -42/25] d20-1=14 Wednesday January 15th, 2003 4:36:07 AM
When Jurgen's eyes connect with Tumult's, he knows his plan will fail. Unfortunately, there is little he can do about it. He continues on, unaware of the devious solution that the dragon unveils. Sir Thomas is thrown towards Jurgen, with no way of escaping. The two tumble and slam together, but the boy tries to remain calm. He dislodges himself from his comrade and jams his hand into Sir Thomas'. One of the two small feather tokens finds its way in there and Jurgen closes it into the knight's fist.
"Get it onto him. If I do it, he may figure it out and stop me. If we both do, then he can't capture the two of us." Jurgen sighs and pats his friend on the shoulder, before setting up to fly again. "One of us outta be able to stop him!"
Suddenly, the Chaos Bell rings out and Jurgen begins to see the entire picture before him. Tumult, the room, his friends and himself. Then, he realizes Tumult's next attack. It all was in his mind so quickly, so vividly. Every move, every step.
[Wisdom Check - 14]
He would not survive this. He could not survive this. No matter where he went, he would still be covered in the magic breath of the dragon. So with split second timing Jurgen jumps, not away from the fire, but towards it. And mainly, one of the targets, Sir Thomas. He attempts to get in the way of the firey attack and stop it from hitting his friend.
[Reflex Save - Voluntary Failure - Full Damage - Attempt To Shield Sir Thomas]
Life wasn't fair. It's just fairer than death. The old live to bury their young. There would be no weeping for Jurgen. His family was dead to him... But no. These people, the Children of Chaos, had become his family. They ment everything to him. And he hoped he ment the same to them. In life, Jurgen was a friend. And in death, he was a hero...
Just before the blast of flame and death hits him, Jurgen speaks a few words. "Good men must die, but death can not kill their names." And then the attack caught up with him. Raging fire scorched his body instantly. He felt the full impact and pain of it, for a mere second, before dropping to the ground. His clothes and gear had quickly caught on fire, burning chaoticly. He smoldered and smoked, becoming nothing more then a lifeless corpse.
[Wow... Thank you everyone! It's been an amazing ride, but unfortunately Jurgen won't be able to finish it off with you. I'm sure you'll do just fine! Just remember, even the most foolish plans will work in a crisis. The best of luck to you, I'll be cheering for you all the way through.]

That Bell of Chaos ring again, Sly's eyes cross and his head spins. "Now! What?? Else can be worst than this??" The Dragon Cone of Fire hits Sly in midflight, thank goodness Sly was hugging the Rod of Ice Storm (Made Reflex check for half damage (27) the rod absorbs (20) of that thats leaves him with 53hp and 20 Fire). Sly look around and sees the Dragon disappearing around the corner.

Sly flies to Jurgen's body lies, "I knew that you had some thing in mind, You know of course you'll always be twice the man than I ever hope to be."
"Sir Thomas, That Wrym has gone around the corner."

Thomas feels the cold hand of death begin to grip his body, but fights its soothing embrace. His lungs burning from a lack of oxygen and his body going numb from the crushing grip of Tumult, Thomas feels an amazing amount of relief when the crushing stops. Before he can relish in taking even a single breath, Thomas impacts Jurgen and the impact is too much for even the strong willed paladin. Thomas falls to the ground unconscious.
He wakes up to the sight of Ilsidur standing over him, looking at the dragon with a wand in his hand, but he can't see the dragon because Jurgen is standing between him with a very protective appearance about him. Before Thomas can fully assimilate back into the moment, all he knows and all he sees is washed in searing flames. He didn't even see it coming.
[Rolled 9 + 5 Reflex = 14 to save]
When the flames pass, Thomas surveys the area around him only to find the charred corpse that he knew as Jurgen only moments before. "Thank you friend." Thomas wispers more to himself than anyone else ... he knows he will share the same fate before the dragon joins them.
Enraged and near death, Thomas forces a smile upon his face again. As he stands, Thomas screams after the dragon, "WE'LL HAVE YOUR HEAD YET FOUL WRETCH!"
Thomas chases after the dragon as fast as his failing legs will carry him. He doesn't want the dragon to have another opportunity to set a trap.

A look of iron resolve crosses the cleric's face as he heads down the hallway after the dragon.
He turns the corner, and if he can see the dragon, Ilsidur casts dispel magic on the reptile. [OOC: The intent is to dispel any spells that the dragon has operating on himself, and to dispel any illusions directly affecting the dragon. This is meant to be the targeted dispell. Dispell roll of 16, not likely high enough, so use a hero point and new dispell roll of 22.]
If Ilsidur cannot see the dragon, he moves as fast as possible in the most likely direction. If there are any obvious walls in the way, Ilsidur will attempt to disbelieve them. If he sees the dragon and still has the ability to cast the dispell, he will do so.

Shiraz smiles with every slice that cuts into the Dragon. Tumult's screams sounded like the sweetest music to his ears.
When the fire hits, the protection spell takes as much as it can until it ends. Shiraz finds himself patting the fire out of his smoldering fur. Without have to look in Jurgen's direction, he can see his charred remains.
Sir Thomas and Isildur race on ahead. Shiraz can see what they see. Then Shriaz speaks as he too races forward. "How is everyone, I have cure potions?"
Shiraz flies after the dragon around the corner.

All that Glitters is not Gold! (DM Stephen) d100=99 d6=1 Thursday January 16th, 2003 2:31:22 AM
Everyone who was within range and allowed a single melee attack of opportunity hit the dragon and he again shrieks in pain as he retreats.
The charred remains of Jurgen lie motionless on the stone floor. His pack and belongs appear unharmed. (lucky)
Sir Thomas flies up and around the corner and the dragon isnt there. The others see what you see. You see them chasing after you. Isildur, Trace, Shriaz and Savin make there way to your side.
Sly notices the sight of a short creature in his mind. Sly realizes that Luke is beneath him.
Then as Trace says, "Run you wyrm, the warriors of chaos are coming for you." it is amplified with everyone's voice, for you all say it in unison. When Shiraz asks about how everyone was doing, you all say that too!!! The realization hits that the Children of Chaos are working as one mind. Just the presence of Jurgen is gone.
Each of you know how hurt the other is. You all see what the other sees, hear what the other hears, think what the other thinks. (This awareness now allows you an additional +4 to AC. For a grand total of +12 bonus to AC. You still only get a +10 to Spot, Listen, Search checks.)
You all dont see the dragon!! What you do see is a marvel to behold!! You all see a massive chamber. At least a 150 to 200-ft wide circular chamber. The ceiling is a natural stone dome covered with stalactites. It looms overhead almost 100-ft high (in some places). On one end is a large pool of bubbling mineral water. The pool is 60-ft wide and looks to go underneath the wall. A rock border keeps the water from overflowing in the chamber.
The thing that dazzles your eyes is the largest collection of treasure you all have ever seen. Huge piles of gold and platinum lay about. Chests are stacked in a orderly fashion against one wall. Some piles go as high as 20-ft!!! There is a ship ... A SHIP leaning up against the wall next to the pool!!! The bow is broken off the you see its hull completely filled with gems of every color and size!! There is a horse drawn carriage (sans the horses) next to the ship. It is a luxuriously constructed masterwork carriage. The kind a king or queen would use. It too is filled with treasure of all types. By the entrance are rows and columns of statues. Looks like one huge chess board. On the opposite side of the chamber is a huge pile of gold, platinum, mithral and gems. It is matted down. Looks like something of a great weight has been laying on it. Is it the bed of Tumult?
A globe of magical light hovers in the center of the room. It illuminates the entire area. The light reflects off the gold and creates a warm glow and countless little glittery specks of light dancing all over the walls and ceiling.

Thomas looks at the piles of gold in the room as if they were piles of waste under an outhouse. He responds to Sly's thought with a rage that drips from his mouth like saliva from Tumult's evil visage. "I am incapable of greed ... I only know rage" and his friends must feel the depth of the emotion through the link.
Thomas turns to Shiraz as his friend comes up behind him in the great cavern of the dragon. "I'll not survive long even with magical help. Strike swift and true ... and strong." Thomas then casts cure light wounds on Shiraz [Rolled 2, used hero point to reroll 1, - I figure I'm going to die anyway - used hero point to reroll 8 + 5 = 13 hp returned to Shiraz. Maximized the spell ... this is the thing of legend ... only 1 hero point left!]
Thomas then flies high into the air to get an aerial view of the cave. [Rolled 11 + 2 WIS + 10 = 23 Spot; Rolled 8 + 1 WIS + 10 = 19 Search; Rolled 8 + 2 WIS + 10 = 20 Listen]
Thomas starts by looking for signs of the dragon in the room, he too tries to disbelieve that there are no illusionary walls in the room [Spot Check and Rolled 14 + ? = ? to disbelieve illusions] Thomas uses his and the group's heightened abilities to try to hear the dragon breathing or softly casting a spell or walking on treasure or the rock floor [Listen Check]. Lastly, Thomas surveys the room and the treasure to try to help identify the most likely place that Tumult would stash a metal ear, hand, eye, etc ...
Thomas' grip tightens around the handle of the mace. It has yet to taste dragon flesh, and Thomas has a prayer to Domi perched upon his lips.
[I doubt that I have any actions left, but I'd hate to miss an opportunity.] After he surveys the room, Thomas begins to concentrate to detect evil. He will hold the concentration until Tumult reveals himself or Thomas discovers him. He then quickly surveys the room to begin to discern the direction of the origin of the evil.

Everyone concentrates on the room and surrounding treasure. If you reach out and touch any of it, you will realize that it is, in fact, real. No force of will seems to reveil any untruths. The place is immaculately clean (except for the fresh blood). The stone walls and floor have been polished to a lustery shine. Every coin glimmers and remains untarnished.
Trace notices the blood smeared tracks on the floor leading into the large chamber. (Well, you all notice them now!) Once inside the chamber you find no other tracks. However you do see a splatter of blood on the floor. It is undisturbed and you notice no other. Trace also casts Detect Animals and Plants. He detects a strong auras around Luke and a few small rodents. Among the treasure is the presence of rare spices, but their aura is faint. Trace realizes that a dragon is not an animal!
While Sir Thomas downs the two potions (2d8+5 each, reroll ones), everyone suddenly hears a sweeping and clanging metal noise. Then a bucket and a small mop comes floating out of a small hole in the wall. They float over to the spot of blood. A broom also comes flying out and starts sweeping the floor behind you. The white ash that's still caked to your bodies is leaving a mess in your path. The mop dips itself into the bucket of water. The soapy water swirls in the bucket knocking about what sounds to be pieces of gravel. Then the mop starts to clean the blood.
Otherwise for the invisible maids, the bubbling water and the sound of all your screaming thoughts, you hear nothing!! The dragon still remains to be unseen. Sir Thomas realizes that from a high distance he wont be able to notice any small artifacts amongst all treasure. There is just too much stuff, plus the dancing reflective lights doesn't help in your search.

If he spots something that he thinks is likely the dragon, he will cast dispel magic on the dragon. If he doesn't find anything on the first cursory pass, he will spend more time taking a detailed inventory of whatever shows up as magical. He will first start with checking the walls, floor and ceiling, looking for secret ways in and out of the room that are magically hidden. Then he will carefully check the room contents by scanning (not by actually picking the items up), specifically looking for the items that the five maidens need. He will keep up a running commentary in his mind to the rest of the party while he is carrying out his search.

Atop the matted down pile of gold everyone notices (due to the everyones hieghtened awareness ) red scales. It looks like a place where Tumult lounges and sleeps.
Ilsildur casts his detect magic spell. Everyone sees glowing auras all over the room. There is magic items mixed in with all the treasure. Magic swords, bows, helmets, shields, suits of armor, wonderous items, wands, potions, rings, mirrors, statues. The glowing magical light gives off its magical aura. A large area on the ceiling, mixed in with the stalactites, glows with an aura. The unseen servants that clean the floor glow. The bucket shines with a faint light. The statues are "dressed" with magical items, like dolls!!! (everyone sees this because you are looking through Isildur's eyes too)
Some auras are stronger than others. However its hard to determine a clear source with all the multicolored lights swirling around the room. (It resembles a disco!) However some of you realize that some stronger glows come from the area around the statues. There are almost a hundred statues, large and small.
The unseen servants continue to clean. Some of you notice that splatter of blood is taking the invisible servant longer than it should to clean.

Thomas keeps his eyes open for the dragon, but doesn't specifically search for the dragon any longer. He is convinced that someone would have seen something if the dragon was that lazy or had made a mistake in concealing himself.
Thomas sees Sly go to search the ceiling, Trace and Shiraz focus on the blood spill (good thought guys), and Ilsidur diverts his attention to the bed. Thomas feels that the bed is probably Tumult's favorite possession. He goes and starts sifting through the bed disrupting it and throwing pieces of gold across the room. He kicks and attcks it with his mace and throws it all around the room. [OOC: If I'm lucky, some of it will go through an illusionary wall or hit the invisible enemy.]
At any rate, Thomas tries to provoke the dragon because he is in his home and tearing stuff up. "Do you like how your house guests are treating your stuff Tumult? Ilsidur manages to avoid the worst of the falling rocks, although a few small stones bounce off his breastplate and shield. He laughs at the dragon's challenge. "We will do more than touch your treasure, you scaly piece of otyugh dung! We will flay the hide from you, and use your skin for our armour! We will take your teeth and use them to make handles for our swords! We will take your skull, and use it as a giant soup-bowl! In short, your end is here!"
He flies to a different section of the room from the rest of the party, and shouts, "Everyone spread out!" Then he casts dispel magic targeted at the dragon (finally!). [OOC: The first dispel roll was a 17, which may not be high enough, so I used a hero point for a second roll of 25. I am not sure if I get to see the effect of the first roll, to see if the second is needed, or if the hero point roll causes the first roll to be cancelled. Of course, my choice would be to use the first roll if it is high enough to be effective. If it is not effective, or I have no way of knowing, use the roll of 25, and I will deduct the hero point.]

[OOC: We have + 12 to AC right? Fate has it in for Thomas! GRRR! I didn't know how far Thomas was from Tumult when he landed, so I rolled two attacks.]
Thomas, hopefully being separated from the rest of the group, throws the handful of gold bedding he has in his hand at the dragon. "And so it ends!" Thomas flies up and at the dragon, attacking from above the great wyrm. Thomas tries to get at an extremely vulnerable site to really hurt Tumult. Maybe a rib to make it difficult to breath or one of his wing joints to make it hard for him to fly, etc.
Thomas attacks with all of the anger and rage and life that he has remaining in his body. [Rolled 3 + 12 = 15 to hit and Rolled 7 + 7 = 14 to hit. Neither are likely good enough, and hero points are no good to me if I'm dead. Reroll first attack - it can't get much worse - and then I had one. GRRRR!!! Rolled 8 + 12 = 20 to hit; Rolled 4 + 5 cold + 1 cold + 1 + 4 STR = 15 dmg for an unlikely hit.]
Upon missing, he starts the process of separating his emotions from the battle. A truely superior representative of Domi would not have let his emotions cloud his mind. Thomas takes deep breath and prepares for the backlash of the dragon.

Trace slams the dragon with a vicious attack however the frost damage doesnt seem to affect the Tumult.
A wing of the dragon causes Savin to flip wildly in his flight to the fight. His attack misses.
Sly lets loose another Ice Storm. The hailstones slam into the dragon, but again, the frost damage is absorbed by magic. There is a loud growl from behind the dragon. Its Luke!!! He wasn't in the falling rock and he comes racing toward the dragon with a mouth full of slobbery sharp teeth. (Bite attack. Hit AC 23 ... CRITICAL THREAT!! Hit AC 8, no crit. 5 points of damage) Luke actually connects with the tail and latches on!! He shakes his head back and forth grinding his teeth deeper into the dragon's tail.
Ilsidur casts Dispel Magic on the dragon. The dragon's body begins to shimmer from the divine assault. Then the shimmer dies ... Tumult looks shocked, "NOOOOO," he shouts!! It is apparent that whatever spell(s) he had cast upon himself are no longer functioning.
Sir Thomas comes swinging in a blinding rage. All attempts fell short of connecting with the dragon.
Shiraz, with the blessed dragonbane weapon slices into the dragon once again. Each cut slicing deeper than the one before. After these strikes Tumult shutters in pain. He roars in an agonizing rage.
Tumult, who is visible shaken and sobered of his rage from the last attack answers with a series of attacks of his own. His eyes focus on Shiraz. He knows that he would surely fall if he took anymore attacks like that from the minotaur. Tumult lashes back at Shiraz with both tooth and claw. (Bite. Hit AC 31 for 23 points of damage. Two Claws. Hit AC 21 miss, Hit AC 31 for 13 points of damage. Tail Slap. Hit AC 39 crit threat, Hit AC 28 no crit. 21 points of damage. Total: 57 points of damage)
The attacks rip into the minotaur almost leveling him. Luke continues to hold on to the tail as he is swung around.
Tumult still has one last trick. He starts to cast a quickened spell like ability. His eyes begin to glow and you all hear him say the word (in draconic) "LOOK AT MEEE AND SLEEEEPP!!!" He focuses his glowing eyes directly down at Shiraz (Will save DC 13 or fall asleep for a long time!!)

Thomas sees the fury with which the dragon lashes out at his friend and he feels rage and pain like nothing he thought possible as it adds to that he feels from the loss of Jurgen. He hovers over the dragons back (as previously stated; away from his eyes) and tries to cripple the wyrm. Raising the mace of icy burst above his head Thomas comments, "Domi's justice is upon you! You should have been more reasonable!" Then bringing the weapon down upon the dragon's back, between his shoulder blades (where Thomas is hovering; no called shot), Thomas invokes the power of Domi. [Smite Evil power; Rolled 15 + 12 melee = 27 to hit; Rolled 5 + 6 + 3 + 1 magic weapon + 4 STR + 4 CHR Mod (smite evil addition) + 7 (Smite evil modifier = Thomas level) = 30 hp dmg]
As the mace connects with the dragon's scales, Thomas feels a surge of energy equal to his rage flow from his body into and through the mace.
Being an astute warrior, Thomas does not let the opportunity to strike again fade from his grasp. He raises the weapon again while the dragon shirks from the pain of his first attack, and then brings the weapon down again in the same place. [Rolled 16 + 7 = 23 to hit; Rolled 4 + 4 + 6 + 1 magic weapon + 4 STR = 19 dmg]
A battle cry like that heard from a ruthless barbarian elicites forth from Thomas' soul and escapes through his mouth. The dragon would pay for his confidence and his actions of evil.
[Total dmg if both attacks make = 49 hp dmg. Luck smiles on Thomas tonight. Luck be a lady you know!]

Savin connects with an unarmed strike. He can feel a bone crack but it doesnt the amount of damage that he would have hoped.
Sly lets loose another Ice Storm across the side of Tumult's head. Ice cakes across his face and neck as hail stones pound into him. Tumult grunts in agony. Luke hangs on and does automatic damage. (Sly can only use the rod once a round)
Ilsidur sees Shiraz fight off the gaze attack and he finds himself fight it off as well. You all realize it is a continuous Sleep gaze attack. If any of you look at the dragons eyes will need to make a will save DC 13 or fall asleep. Ilsidur turns to cast a healing spell on Shiraz and draws an attack of opportunity from Tumult. (Bite. Hit AC 25, natural 1, miss. lucky. no damage) Tumult bites into the floor and comes up with a mouth full of rocks. Ilsidur successfully heals Shiraz.
Shiraz strikes twice with his bane sword. Tumult shrills in pain!!
Sir Thomas summons the holy power of his God, Domi, and transforms it into a devestating clap of divine energy as it strikes the dragon. The cold damage from the weapon was the "frosting" on the cake!! His second strike misses however. The dragon begins to sway back and forth! "Momma ... HELP ME, MOMMA ... IT HURTS!!!," shouts Tumult!!
Trace also manages to slice into Tumult. The dragon doesnt seem to know what to do. His mind is completely frazzled. --------------------- (Tumult's turn) Tumult looks around wildly. He stares into space as if he is looking for someone or something. "Momma .... Momma, what do I dooo!! Yes Momma .. yes!! With a frantic expression still frozen on his partially frosted face, Tumult inhales and breathes directly down onto the floor. Hot searing flame rolls out and up engulfing the dragon and everyone closed with him. (Sly is only one not needed to be closed with the dragon to attack.)
(Fire breath. 52 points of fire damage. Reflex DC 24 for half. If you fail save and take 50+ points of damage, then you must make a Fort. Save DC 15 or die instantly from massive damage.)

[Thomas is unconscious, but rather than automatically dying, I rolled a fortitude save 13 + 11 Fortitude = 24 SUCCESS I'm hanging on but dying fast!]
Thomas has -3 hp. He falls from the air where he was hovering above Tumult's back and lands first on the dragon's back itself, and then slides off and onto the ground beside the gargantuan beast.
[OOC: I have a question. Thomas was hovering directly above the dragon. Tumult spewed his fire down, at the ground. That means Thomas would have been protected from most of the effects of the blast because he would be shielded by the dragon. Do I get any large bonuses to my reflex save for being so hidden from the blast? Think of it like drafting in a car race or a cycling race or any race where two competitors can travel very closely to one another and the second competitor has to produce much less energy (force, wattage, etc) to travel at the same speed as the first competitor. Do you see what I'm asking or trying to point out? If you grant me some extra bonuses ... which, I know I'm biased, but I think I deserve, I'll use a hero point to reroll that dismal 2 and try to save my life. If I successfully save, then I'll attack Tumult again with the mace ... twice.]
[Rerolled Reflex save 9 + 5 + any bonuses for being shielded that I am granted for being hidden from the blast = ????]
[Provisionary attack rolls. I didn't get a stellar save, but you never know. I missed both attacks anyway. Rolled 5 + 12 = 17 and 16 + 7 = 23]
Good luck Southern Lights!

The howl and screams of pain and rage echo throughout the cavern. The crackling hiss of fire and ice. The bellows of pain ... the hacking sloshy sound of steel into hide ... the gush and spray of blood .... the sizzle and sickening smell of searing hair and flesh ... the battle blazes on to its epic conclusion.
The brave Shiraz meets his forefathers and is greeted into the afterlife as a hero among heroes. He died well ... this was a good honorable death. As he passes over to the other side, he didnt forget his friends. For even in death, his arm reaches out with his weapon offering it to whomever will take it.
You all feel his vision leave your minds and your awareness seems to be failing. (-2 AC).
Sir Thomas falls to the flame. (Sorry, I understand what you mean but couldn't think of a situation that would justify a +10 to your roll. Tumult lowered his head to the floor to breath his fire so that it would disperse around him at a greater speed. Let's just let it ride for now :) Thankfully, as Sir Thomas fell the body of the dragon took the brunt of his fall to the floor and he takes no extra damage. Everyone lose more awareness (-2 AC) but you all continue to see through the eyes of Sir Thomas. Sir Thomas sees a light in the distance and feels wrapped up in warmth and love of his god and family.
Savin bludgeons the dragon with another solid strike. This time you hear a bone crack and break into. Tumult grunts with a sharp pain as his leg goes limp.
Sly pounds the dragon again with the rod of Ice Storms. The dragon screams in pain. Luke hangs on and contines to reduce the beasts tail into a chew toy.
Trace grits his teeth and slices into the dragon. Cold damage seems to make the dragon's flesh brittle and it begins to crack and break off. Dragon blood pours and sprays from frost burns and gaping wounds. Those surrounding the dragon fail not to be covered in it.
(Trace's Resist Elements (Fire) spell kicks in. Ilsidur failed his save against the fire. You can only reroll a bad roll with a hero point once. Or you can use a hero point to raise a roll by +2, which you can use as many hero points that you have. You're down to 10 hp and your fire protection is spent.)
Tumult stumbles to the floor. His eyes roll in their sockets. In one last act of defiance, he roars and shows his teeth at the dwarf. Ilsidur grabs Shiraz's sword, swirls it around and stabs it soundly into Tumult (Critical hit). Tumult screams in pain. A shrill so sharp and loud that it hurts your ears.
Tumult, grunting and choking on his own blood, tries to crawl toward the pool of water. His claws slip and slide through the crimson wash all over the floors. He tries to roar again but it becomes garbled with fluid. His wings flop around as it he is trying to take to the air. However there isn't enough strength left. He only accomplishes the slinging of more blood around the area. He reaches the water's edge and collapses. Tumult is motionless and the fiery glow from his eyes and mouth fade to nothing.

Ted, congrats to you and your wife on your new arrival! Glad to hear everything went well. I guess we can forgive your absence for a little while, but hurry back, I have a feeling we will need your eyes and swords very shortly!
Awakenings, part 2 (DM Stephen) d100=94 d6=3 another great roll Wednesday January 29th, 2003 12:43:44 AM
Ilsidur casts Locate Object and he uses the memory of the kiss to focus on the artifacts. (YES ... you remembered!! yeah!! :) Almost instantly, your forced to turn around and face the area with the statues. The spell focuses your sight and you see a red and white marble statue. Mounted on the statue is a metalic tongue, nose, eye, ear and hand. You then remember the marble hand, nose and ear from the wash bucket. You realize that Tumult must have replaced the statues parts with the artifacts. The unseen servants must have picked up the marble statue parts thinking they were garbage. (that was my little hint of their location from before)
A translucent image of the maidens appear in the cavern floating above the floor. They all speak in unison. "Yes... those are our artifacts ... hurry retrieve them, we sense a great and evil power approaching."
Suddenly a dark deep echoed growl fills the cavern. A sound that, even in this heat, sends a cold chill down your backs. The sound of an ancient and powerful evil. The sound did NOT come from the body of Tumult!!
(party's initiative)
Sir Thomas (AC 25(17 usually), HP 5/59, Darkvision, Fly) Wednesday January 29th, 2003 1:50:29 AM
After Tumult's flames engulfed him and his screams were raised to the heavens, Thomas feels no pain. He stands in an endless hall divided by nothing. On one end is a white, comforting light. On the other is the pain and torment of life ... wonderful glorious life. Thomas tries to fight his way back to his body and the pain with which it is wracked. With Sly's help, Thomas is successful!
His eyes flutter open and he weakly thanks his friend with a smile. He moves to stand, and does so with a great deal of pain and effort. Seeing Tumult dead, Thomas sees no need for his will power to supercede his strength and he sinks back down to the floor. Just before he mentions to look on the statues for the artifacts, Ilsidur finishes his spell and locates them. [OOC: I got your reference before Stephen ... I just couldn't do anything about it. It was a nice touch.]
Thomas states weakly, "let's get out of here. Trace, can Radiant get those artifacts back to ..." and then he exclaims, "the maidens?" as they appear to offer their warning.
His heart sinking in his chest, Thomas listens to the growling of something more fowl and evil than Tumult. "Nothing can just be good in the Wold, can it?!?" Thomas forces his willpower to take back over as a sense of fear creeps into his being. "We must hurry to complete this task." Thomas stands almost as if he had the strength of the mighty Shiraz.
He hurries over to the charred remains of his friend and picks up what he finds. "We'll burry you properly friend." Thomas makes for the door and if he has the hands and the ability, grabs Jurgen's charred remains also. "All fallen heroes will be raised to the heavens and properly buried."
"I hope we can get past that lava river without too much trouble. I may not have the strength to pass by it again."
[OOC: I don't really care to meet Tumult's "mommy", let's go folks!]
Savin hps 47 ac 29 flying, dark vision fire resistance 1 Wednesday January 29th, 2003 9:24:28 AM
Savin will go and grab whatever artifact is available or more if his friends don't. On his way past Sir Thomas he will hand him a potion of moderate healing. "Looks like you could use this more than me. We all need to be up to full strength to escape or fight the horror coming our way."
Savin looks at all the treasure while moving around and sighs, "This could really help feed some starving children." If Savin sees any promising items he will grab them if they are convient to get.
Ilsidur [AC20, HP 10/69, fly, locate object] Wednesday January 29th, 2003 1:01:49 PM
Ilsidur will shout out to Savin, "Do you need help collecting the artifacts?" If Savin needs help to collect all five, Ilsidur will fly over and help him. Otherwise, he flies down and quicky gathers whatever items were Shiraz's, and places them on the minotaur's body. Then he helps Sir Thomas carry minotaur out of the cavern, hopefully to safety. He calls out to Savin, "I suggest you leave the treasure. It seems to be disappearing, and probably should be left alone!"
On the way out, he calls to Sly and Trace, "Can you pick up Jurgen's body? We have his backpack already."
Sly and Luke (by DM Stephen) Wednesday January 29th, 2003 1:21:28 PM
Sly continues to shovel hand fulls of gems and gold into his pack and pockets. Loyal Luke looks on in bewilderment as normal. Sly comes across a tiny ivory chest that is small enough to fit in his pocket. Sly quickly stuffs it away without paying too much attention to it.
Luke's attention is drawn away from Sly as the pool of Tumult's blood continues to flow and spread outward into one big oval. He starts to bark at it.
"Trace can you get Jurgen's body, my hands will be full with Luke."
Trace ac 17 hp 53/64 resist elemen Fire Protection 12/3 Flying Dark Vision Species enemy +1 and dmg - Radiant 12/12 2d8(6+3)+7=16 Thursday January 30th, 2003 12:45:39 AM
Trace drinks down a potion of cure moderate wounds potion and then calls for Radiant who should still be withing listening Range. (gains 16hps.)
Trace looks around for anything valueable that he can quickly stick in his belt then waits for Radiant to arrive. Once Radiant comes into the room he will heal any heat damage his friend has taken and then put in his claws the bucket of metal human parts, "Radiant, take this back to the sisters at the inn."
"I hate the fact that we are being rushed away from our bounty. Heck why dont we attempt a stand for a bit and if it gets too hard then we can flee."
Endgame (DM Stephen) d100=53 d6=3 Thursday January 30th, 2003 3:39:39 AM
(The bucket contained marble pieces from the statue. The actual statue has the artifacts attached to it.)
Suddenly the water from the pool begins to quickly drain away. As the water sinks below the water line of the chamber wall, you all realize that the lake was an underwater entrance into the lair. You hear the roar of the water draining deep down into the volcano and the mountain begins to slightly shake and rattle.
Radiant has no chance of hear Trace in all the chaos. (you dont have a magical bond do you?) Trace notices that the body parts in the bucket are just marble chunks from the statue. At the statue, Savin has little trouble breaking the artifacts off the marble. He has more time to collect a few other things in the area.
Sly continues to stuff everything he can grab. Luke barks at the pool of blood that now has expanded to a oval with a 60-ft diameter.
Those still in the air notice an image appear in the blood. Looking into the blood is like gazing through a crimson stained-glass window. Flames and steamy mist can be seen through the portal. Suddenly the head of a colossal beast appears and it stares back at you. The translucent head of the beast passes through the portal and into the chamber. The ancient beast remains incorporeal as it passes through, not yet solid within this location. It stares at the body of Tumult and roars a deafening cry. A sound that shakes the mountain even more. Tumult was a HUGE dragon. However, the head of this beast is almost as big as Tumult's body. Luke stops barking with a yelp!! He retreats to Sly wimpering.
With the entrance of daylight through the drained pool of water, the maidens appear in the new opening and shout a word of power focused on the great beast .... "DICTUM!!!" The word seems to burst all around you like a sonic attack. It knocks everyone to the ground (except the maidens) and forcefully pushes the beast back through the blood portal. The beasts rages with a hellish fury and rams the closed portal with its claws and head. The mountain begins to shake more violently.
The maidens continue to shout, "Everyone, gather your dead ... QUICKLY ... our magic wont hold the beast for long." One maiden opens a bag and a whirl wind comes shooting forth. Wherever the whirl wind hits it gathers what treasure is left and scoops back into the bag. Hundreds of thousands of gold coin fly into the bag.
Rocks are now begining to fall from the ceiling. The mountain shakes even more violently as the beast pounds on the blood portal. The floor is becoming very warm to almost hot. Whaa ... is the mountain beginning to erupt!!!! Steam comes pouring in from both entrances now. The maidens snap their fingers and cast Mass Teleport.
In a streak of blinding light you all find yourselves in a meadow facing the quaking mountain lair of Tumult, in the distance.
Radiant is perched on a tree and he flies to Trace. Vus lays down next the body of Jurgen. You all watch several explosions billow out of several places on and around the mountain.
(You're all at a safe distance. Party's initiative)
Savin Thursday January 30th, 2003 9:17:29 AM
Savin looks at the erupting volcano with wonder in his eyes. As smoke and ash shoot up into the sky he wonders to himself what in the name of all that is holy was that big monster.
He shakes himself out of his wonderings and heads over to the maidens. "Ladies, I believe these belong to you. Use them well and keep our world safe with them." He hands out the artifacts to them. "I want to thank you for your magical help in fighting Tumult and aiding in our escape."
Sly Foxx and Luke Thursday January 30th, 2003 12:46:13 PM

Ilsidur [AC20, HP 10/69, fly] Thursday January 30th, 2003 6:51:29 PM
Ilsidur watches Savin present the metallic body parts to the five crones. He wonders to himself, "I sure hope the reward was worth the cost," looking at the two dead comrades. Then he moves over to Shiraz and Jurgen, and arranges their bodies into restful positions.
He looks around at the rest of the group, and says, "As a cleric, I know that it is possible for some characters to return from the dead, but I am not powerful enough to carry this out. But I STRONGLY suggest we try this for Jurgen and Shiraz." Then he watches the crones, to see what happens next.
Sir Thomas (AC 25(17 usually), HP 5/59, Darkvision, Fly) Friday January 31st, 2003 12:22:59 AM
Thomas killed the cure moderate wounds potion that Savin gave him quickly while all of the confusion took place. [OOC: I don't know the rolls for that.]
He prapares to fly Shiraz's and Jurgen's remains (if someone else doesn't grab the young mage's body) out of the cave when the maidens arrive and save the group.
Upon finding himself in a flowery field, covered in blood, soot, tears, pain, and only a few know what other manner of dirt and grime, Thomas places a hand on Shiraz' huge chest and kneels before the body. He watches the mountain quake and shake and cry in the rage of it's eruption. He then looks to Jurgen and knows of the multiple acts of heroism that the man endured before his death. Thomas considers the same for Shiraz. "You will not sit in the halls of heroes for long. We still require your services my friends. You are both heroes of MINE. ...... Domi, give them back." Thomas commands the god as if requesting a possession to be returned froma dear friend.
He does his part to help arrange the two bodies into restful positions and the approaches the madiens, "we are eternally grateful for your help and for the help of our endowment. I think Savin said it well, use those items wisely dear maidens. We are going to go find someone who can return our friends to us."
Thomas then gives a VERY respectful bow to the maidens and goes about 30 yards off into the field to pray to Domi. Once alone, the paladin begins to cry for his friends and the experience that he and the other Southern Lights just lived through. It will mark his manhood for the rest of his living days.
Once finished with his prayer of thanks and honor toward Domi, Thomas returns to the group and gives each individual a hug while taking the opportunity to speak soft words of endearment into each of their ears.
"I love you" are the words spoken by the young human. "Thank you for your friendship and support my brother."
Trace and Radiant Friday January 31st, 2003 12:40:37 AM
Trace moves Radiant over to his sholder and stabs his sword into the ground as he slumps against a tree while he watches the fireworks in the distance from there victory.
We need to make our way back and find a preist and see if they can bring our friends back. I would truly want you to do that for me. We might also have to be prepaired for who ever that was trying to come through the spilt blood of Tumlet. We have this hard of a time with him I think we need to be more ready for any other situations that arise. My sword here was servicable but not good enough to keep us from loosing friends and allmost my life as well.
Awakenings, part 3 (DM Stephen) d100=99 d6=1 Friday January 31st, 2003 1:30:38 AM
The volcano continues to violently shake. Then with one massive explosion, the top of the volcano explodes. A mushroom cloud of fire, smoke, and ash billows up into the air. The sound of the explosion washes over you like a wave. You feel the heat from the blast, even from this distance (no damage).
Like a infernal devil from the deepest pits of the planes of torment, a massive beast comes flying out of the fiery plume. A collossal red dragon of epic porportions hangs suspended above the volcano. It flaps its wings and roars into the sky. Its shrill echoes across the Grey Tooth Mountain range. Suddenly it takes the sky and begins to fly away. Its hard to tell, but you can see the limp body of Tumult clutched in its claws. As it flies away it vanishes from sight and then there is no more. It makes you wonder where this beast came from. Were you all merely pons on a massive chess board that it played from some other dimension or plane of existence? Why in the Wold did it want to come here?
Whatever happened you can rest assured you are true heroes. You fought the good fight against unlikely odds and saved the land and everyone within it from a fate worse than death itself.
The maidens hear the words of Ilsidur and Sir Thomas. One maiden says, "You wouldnt think we would allow your two friends here miss this wonderful occasion. They are true heroes and deserve to bask in their glory. Its time we wake them up, if the gods will allow."
Two maidens pull out scrolls and begin to chant. One maiden takes out a flask of fragrant oil and starts applying it the bodies. The other two fish through the magical bag and locate a small pouch of diamond powder. They sprinkle the bodies with the powder. Shiraz and Jurgen glisten in the sunlight. Then all five chant like a choir. After a few minutes, the bodies begin to float up off the ground. The winds pick up and blow around the group. The blustery currents blow against the maidens and they start screaming the words to their chant in order to be heard over the wind. The clouds above swirl in a circular path. The eye of the rotation opens up and a shaft of light shoots down upon your fallen friends. Before your eyes, the bodies begin to glow. You see their charred bodies slowly heal. Gapping wounds close, new skin and hair grows where it had been burned away. The maidens are showing a great deal of stress. You dont know if they can take much more.
Suddenly, the winds die and the shaft of light fades to nothing. The maidens collapse to the ground. Their fair skin drips with perspiraton and breathing is labored. Finally one maiden stands up and says, "Uh Ari..Arise my champions ... Shriaz and Jurgen!!" First there is nothing, then you see your friend's eyes twitch. Suddenly they gasp for breath, their lungs begin to accept air. Then their eyes open. Shiraz and Jurgen look to have merely awaken from a deep sleep. The crones did it, Shiraz and Jurgen have returned to the living Wold.
(True Resurrection ... no level loss. You're as good as new. Congrats. :)
The lead maiden walks over to greet the reborn heroes. "Get your rest gentlemen, you've traveled a long way. Tonight we may need your help again to finish this. Tonight we perform the Joining Ceremony with the artifacts. We may not be strong enough to do this by ourselves. To become a Crone, you usually have a life time to prepare for the task. We didnt have that luxury. We may need your precision and skill with a blade. We'll explain later but for now we need our rest. I advise you do the same."
(party's initiative. Shiraz and Jurgen may start anytime.)
And more (DM Stephen) This message will self destruct. Friday January 31st, 2003 1:54:03 AM
Some of you feel weighed down with treasure. Especially Sly. -------------------------- (Great Job everyone. Will have treasure amounts, experience and hero points figured out soon. Start thinking about hero point nominations. Expect a new player as well (looks like it might be a druid, great timing for next module). Greg, Im going to email you soon. I may be scheduled for a DM vacation this next month. Ceil, I want to run by a few ideas about Luke.
Sly Foxx and Luke Friday January 31st, 2003 5:43:22 AM
After the explosion from the volcano and that huge beast flying off in to the distance. Sly hugs Luke, but fell something hard in his clothing but thinks nothing of it.
When Sir Thomas comes back from his prayers, Sly will accept a hug and again the slight pain from one of his pocket, this time does not over look it. He retrieve the small Ivory Chest, looking to Sir Thomas, he ask "I wonder where this comes from?"
As Luke and master watches the Resurrection of Jurden and Shiraz, all he could do is tells them "Welcome Back, Let's get some rest."
Ilsidur [AC20, HP 10/69] Friday January 31st, 2003 11:20:14 PM
Ilsidur stands in awe at the power that the crones are able to summon. It is the most powerful divine spell that he has ever seen, and he knows it will be a very long time, if ever, before he can even hope to command such awesome power.
When he sees the results of the spell, he snaps out of his trance of wonderment. "Jurgen, Shiraz! Welcome back to the world of the living! You briefly left this world, but the crones were able to summon you back. We managed to slay Tumult, thanks to both of your help. However, he apparently was only a young dragon, and his mother lived deeper in that volcano you see erupting. She is truly colossal, and makes Tumult look as small and harmless as a field mouse. She took off that way." He points in the direction the massive dragon flew.
"I realize that we are all hurting, but the ladies have said that they need our help tonight in protecting them when they carry out the Joining Ceremony. Since I will not have access to my spells until the dawn, I plan to keep them in my memory. I do have a cure moderate wounds scroll, and two cure light wounds potions that we can share. I personally am in some serious pain, but I can function, if someone else needs help worse than I do. Let me know what you think."
Savin d20+5=16 Friday January 31st, 2003 11:26:35 PM
Savin bows to the maidens after they perform their miracle. "Thank you for your gift. The gift of life is the most precious of all.
Savin will accept Sir Thomas's hug and congradulations awkwardly. It will almost seem like he hasn't been hugged very often and doesn't know what to do. He will murmer back, "Your welcome Thomas."
Savin will then pull out his flute and start to play a merry tune. He wonders what his part will be in the joining ceremony.
Trace and Radiant Friday January 31st, 2003 11:29:22 PM
Trace moves over to Shiraz and Jurgen and hugs them tighly each. "Thank the gods you have made it back. We have won! Your brave actions kept the beast from me and Sly to keep pecking away to finnaly outlast the beast. I belive we were all on our last leg when the wyrm fell. Thank you two very much for your unselfish actions.
We need to get back to town to rest and celebrate! Oh and we have a wonderfull bonus, besides saving the land and the people, returning the metal parts to the maidens, we have escaped with a dragons horde so we might be set for the rest of our lives. Hopefully we can use this bounty to better equip ourselves for future task. Tonight we celebrate life. I belive we have earned that.
Trace moves around to each of his friends giving hugs and laughing with relief.
OOC: Clay Saturday February 1st, 2003 10:48:49 AM
I'm sorry I missed the last post ... I would have liked to greet our fallen heroes who have returned. I would have liked to "emotionally" express my appreciation toward Jurgen for all of his heroic actions.
I believe I have turned in my background with it added to my CS. I did it on the 15th or maybe 16th of January. I did not receive any signs (i.e. emails) that it was received. However, I did have to send it in four parts. Please have Carl email me if he did not get it and I will resend it from a different computer as an attachment.
Thanks
Greg - with apologies Saturday February 1st, 2003 6:15:40 PM
OK - I admit - it was me. I was late in getting my info for Ilsidur to Carl for the Adventurer's Repose. Everyone else's character in the group seems to be up and running at the Repose. I sent my info to Carl and Stephen tonight, so we should be good to go in a day or so. Again, my apologies.

[OOC:READY! SET! GO!!!]
Thomas feels a great sense of relief and assurance in the return of his friends. "Thank you Domi" Thomas says with relief. When his friends have revived and seem to be realize the safety of their surroundings, Thomas approaches both and gives each a big hug. Thomas says to each, "your bravery more than matches that which is talked about in legend. I am proud to call you friend."
To Jurgen Thomas adds, "I know you stepped in front of that fireball for me. I probably owe you my life. I am eternally grateful to you friend. I hope to repay the favor some day."
Thomas then waits patiently while the others welcome back their friends and then walks with them toward the nearest town. He knows the must rest, and he remembers talk of a town at the base of the mountain. As he walks, he anxiously searches the horizon for Pryte-Honos who should be on his way to meet the group. Thomas occasionally tries to estabilsh a mental link with his steed to expedite their reunion.
Cuts to the Bone (DM Stephen) d100=13 d6=1 Monday February 3rd, 2003 12:11:53 AM
To the south everyone hears a galloping sound. Sir Thomas turns to see his steed, Pryte-Honos, running in full sprint toward the group. The magical horseshoes make the horse more swift than the wind itself. Thomas empathically gets the feeling that Pryte was trying to herd back the other horses. They were frightened off by the explosions. Apparently, he wasnt successful. With the magical horseshoes, they scattered and covered too much distance. --------------- As time passes, everyone feels the exhaustion overtake them. Fighting and killing dragons and coming back from the dead can take a lot out of a person. By the time night falls, all of you are either asleep or resting heavily. Suddenly everyone is woke from their slumber from the cries and shills of pain. The maidens have built a fire not too far away. They've drawn symbols with colored sand on the ground and hung banners with bizarre symbols from poles. Each one his holding serrated knives, gouges and hack saws. One maiden has her arm pressed firmly down on a large stone. Several other maidens hold her down while another cuts on her wrist.
(parties initiative. we will have treasure amounts and experience very soon. Continue and think of hero point nomintations.)

Thomas awakens from his sleep, but doesn't feel rested. He had been sleeping in his armor with his back against a small rock because he knew the maidens would call for them soon. However, he didn't expect to be startled from his slumber, and as such is on edge. Having previously returned the mace of icy burst to Ilsidur, Thomas draws his bastard sword +1 in preparation for a fight he is not rested enough to finish. He quickly surveys the surroundings to be sure it is only the group [Rolled 1 + 2 WIS = 13 spot check], and being satisfied approaches the maidens [OOC: or not being satisfied, investigates the source of his suspicions].
Thomas asks the maidens to explain their actions in a very odd way, "I guess this is part of the ceremony during which we are supposed to protect you? In the future you might try being sure we are prepared before you start attacking each other."
Thomas believes this to be "normal" for the maidens based upon his experience with them in the past .... crazy young crones!
[OOC: They aren't pretty by chance are they? Maybe one would like to accompany Thomas to a local tavern for a friendly drink ...! Maybe I should just stay on task.]
Sly Foxx and Luke Monday February 3rd, 2003 5:28:38 AM

It takes a few minutes just to see strait, he looks around and there in the sleeping bag is Luke now taking up the bag making himself very much at ease. "What's going on?"
OOC: Cure potion are usually d8+1 for cure light wounds, and then they go up like Cure moderate wounds d8+2 and so on. I think Sir Thomas.
DM Stephen ooc. Monday February 3rd, 2003 9:18:44 AM
(Ceil, Im affraid you are incorrect. In the local game we have always treated cure light wounds potions as a 1d8+3 because you have to be at least 3rd level to brew a potion. We treat Cure Moderate Wounds potions as 2d8+5. Wands are much higher because it takes a high level person to make a wand.)
Savin Monday February 3rd, 2003 9:47:43 AM
Savin hears the noise and puts his hands above his head, pushes up and springs to his feet. He sees the maidens cutting on each other and is horrified. He hurries over and asks, "Ladies, I am sure you are doing this to attach the artifacts. I have some training in the healing arts. Can I be of assistance?"

Trace and Radiant Monday February 3rd, 2003 1:49:55 PM
Trace makes his way over to Sir Thomas as they watch the crones and ask if there is anything they can do or what they should do to protect them.
Trace then turns to Sir Thomas and hands him a cure light wounds potion (1d8 + players level). "Here ya go Sir Thomas, drink this cause you look like youve been on the grill too long. Or maybe just hell warmed over. Anyway drink in good health."
Trace cracks a smile as he returns his attention to the crones and there task at hand.
A slight observation (DM Stephen) Monday February 3rd, 2003 2:32:24 PM
"Wait a sec ... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6!! There are now six maidens!! What the!! Where did the 6th one come from?"
Sly Foxx Monday February 3rd, 2003 5:37:43 PM
Sly looks over to the Maidens, "Boy What a reward! We did such a good job with the dragon. That we got an extra Maiden." Sly takes his hat off and bows to the maidens, "How Do You Do?"
Ilsidur [AC20, HP 22/69] 2d8(4+2)+6=12 Monday February 3rd, 2003 10:34:28 PM
No matter how much Ilsidur tries to remain awake, the actions of the past how many hours haave caught up with him. He sits down, leaning against the rock, casts a healing spell on himself [OOC: Convert find traps spell to cure moderate wounds spell, healing 12 hp], and falls asleep.
He awakens, not very well rested, to the screaming coming from the 5...no 6 crones. 6 crones? He scrambles to his feet and hurries over to where the crones are carrying out their questionable rites. He carefully peers at each of the crones, looking for the one that is out of place. [OOC: Having had them kiss him and such, he should be able to recognize the ones that they have been working for.] If he discovers which one is the new one, he confronts her, and says, "Who are you? You aren't one of the ladies that asked us to help them? Prove yourself to us!"
Shiraz Monday February 3rd, 2003 10:38:37 PM
"I uhh... ohhh...my head..." the huge taur sits up and looks at his friends. "We did it? Thank Domi, little one" Shiraz looks over at Jurgen, "How are you? I see Domi blessed your return to us as well." "Is everyone ok? The maidens have recieved their artifacts? What do you mean they are cutting themselves? Is this normal?" Shiraz grabs his swords and relizes that he isn't wearing his armor, "Ladies!!!" he bellows "What is the meaning of this?"
