So are the days of our lives (DM Stephen) d100=87 d6=6 Thursday March 20th, 2003 2:30:34 AM
Time continues to go by during your time off. Items are identified and some are sold. The one Shillelagh scroll is a druid only spell, so Ilsidur realizes that it would be a suitable gift for their newest member.
Some of the party decide to join Savin for his slumber party. Although they all have a restful nights sleep, everyone (other than Savin) doesnt experience the same dream of the forest and elven maiden. Savin alone sees her and feels the affects of her songs. This latest night, the woman doesnt sing the light-hearted songs. Her voice isnt filled with joy and delight. At one moment she looks at Savin with sad eyes. A tear runs down her cheek. She asks Savin a question, "Is your heart pure, strong and true? Please tell me it is. I sense you are, but I need to know for sure." Her skin appears more pale than normal. She runs her fingers through his hair and down the back of Savin's neck. She gives him a kiss like she always does. Savin wakes up, his heart beats rapidly. You feel yourself drawn to the mask. You have a feeling of urgency from her voice. The carved darkwood face almost looks alive if it werent for the empty eye holes.
Trace takes the Gauntlets of Ogre Power and he feels stronger when he wears them.
Sly is proud of his mithral chainshirt. Sly undoubtedly knows it was made by elven hands. The styling and craftsmanship allows that conclusion to be obvious.
Ilsidur keeps most of the divine scrolls and the shield. What strange magic does this shield have ... hmmm?
Peerimus makes a delightful little grove. A wonderful place to commune with nature and meditate. You've made friends with many of the smaller animals and birds. In fact, the birds sing with delight whenever you come near and feel confident to land on your shoulder (even with the bear with you.).
Sir Thomas cant help but feel pride in himself and his friends. Fulfilling his obligations to god and country shows others in the community that they indeed deserve the respect and honor from all. In fact, you see children playing Knights n Dragons in the street. A game you played often as a small child. One kid with a metal bucket (helmet) on his head, a cooking pot lid in one hand (shield) and a stick grasped tightly in the other (sword) chases the other kid pretending to be a dragon. The "armored" child proclaims, "I, Sir Thomas shall slay you, you foul beast ..." They both suddenly spot you pass by and become slack-jawed with surprise!!
Shiraz takes the scabbard of holding and the reptilian skinned belt. When Shiraz tries on the belt a strange feeling falls over him. First off, your voice becomes high pitched. Your words sound like theyre being spoken by a yapping dog. You know the draconic language too. Your voice reminds you of a kobolds!!! You feel more alert (grants Alertness feat), almost to the point of having a nervous tick. You dont feel as strong as you once did, but you feel quicker and lighter on your feet ... errr hooves (-4 str., +4 dex.)! Your senses seem heightened (spot +2, listen +2, search +2) and the sunlight hurts your eyes, but you can still function. Its only a minor annoyance (-1 to attack rolls while in direct sunlight). There are other things you sense about the belt but your not sure about what it is. However you realize this is a Belt of Koboldian Kind. When you take it off, the effects go away and you return to normal.
Jurgen continues to think of other nasty things he could do with a ring of invisibility. The womens' side at the local bathhouse suddenly comes to mind!!!
Shiraz Thursday March 20th, 2003 8:25:32 AM
Shiraz takes off the belt and places it in his backpack as a rememberence of the battle with Tumult and places the sheath on his hip. Turning to Sir Thomas, who is fiddling with a sheet of paper and what appears to be complex equations on it, Shiraz smiles,"I am gald we have someone like you to help guide us. You help keep us honest." Shiraz agrees that Luke should get the belt and the picture of tumult should be kept by the group.
Sir Thomas Thursday March 20th, 2003 9:57:38 AM
Thomas responds to all in a very friendly and cordial manner, "Why of course Luke can have the brush. I didn't realize he wanted it." Then, "I'm sorry Ilsidur, I thought I had already given that back to you, but here it hangs at my belt .... silly me." Thomas turns a light shade of red at the embarrassment of such a blatant mistake as he hands the mace back to its owner. "Terribly sorry. That is a great idea on the money situation. I'll make that amendment and I'll sell our items and we'll get that division finalized."
Surprised by the compliment offered by Shiraz, Thomas replies in kind and again in a light shade of red, "Thank you friend ... I'm flattered. I just try to do my part. I am glad to have you with us. It looks as though someone should take this picture to the innkeeper while I visit the catacombs."
Thomas makes the few amendments that are called for by the concesus of the group and then heads off to the store. He smiles out of flattery by the kids and of course his friend's comments, but keeps his somewhat stoic demeanor.
Savin Thursday March 20th, 2003 12:14:29 PM
Savin wakes up very disturbed. He will tell his friends what happened in the dream and then say, "I think I need to try on the mask again. I don't know what will happen, but the maiden needs my help and I am going to try and give it to her.
If I start acting strange, please do what you feel is appropriate to first protect yourselves and then me."
Savin lifts the mask to his face and murmers, "Maiden I am true of heart. How can I help you? Please show me."
Sly Foxx and Luke Thursday March 20th, 2003 4:34:43 PM
Sly is suprise at Shiraz, "Alright I'll take the belt for Luke, but what would you like instead?. After all my friend you gave your all." Sly will put the Belt in the Chest.
Sly walks to the spot where Peelimus and Yurric are, "Hail friend, I love this time of the day, so I can let Luke play with Yurric. I wonder if you had a strange dream, I had a strange one, a very strange dream last night. It was about a sad Elven female. How about you?"
(DM Stephen - Only Savin had the dream of the sad elven woman, but you could have dreamed of other elven women ... keep it clean) :)
Peerimus Thursday March 20th, 2003 6:04:06 PM
Peerimus greets Sly, arms on top of one another and horizontal with the ground with a slight nod of the head. "Sly and Luke. It is good to see you today. An odd remark, how can one time of day be any better than another? I did have a similar night vision. Strange we should both have the same dream. Given what Savin has said I believe we have all received a sign and should try and help."
Ilsidur Thursday March 20th, 2003 11:34:49 PM
Ilsidur laughs with Sir Thomas at his apparent discomfort about the mace. "Don't worry, young man, obviously you only forgot. It was only a gentle reminder, nothing more." [OOC: I just didn't remember the transfer ever having taken place before, and Ilsidur is off to the catacombs for some wheelin' and dealin'.]
"Savin, it might be worthwhile to tell the lady of your dreams about the rest of us; she may need all of our help."
Ilsidur watches Shiraz don the belt, and then be replaced by...a kobold! Then just as suddenly, Shiraz is back again. "Well, if that isn't a lesson in opposites; from a minotaur to a kobold and back again. That belt will sure help you if you ever need to become smaller and less intimidating. I just bet you're glad that you could take it off again!"
While they are out at the glade, Ilsidur hands the Shillelagh scroll over to Peerimus. "I am sure that you can find a better use for this than I can. Do you have any use for the other scrolls? Just let me know. Maybe you can take the cure critical wounds scroll. I have a wand of cure wounds with a couple of charges left, and I can spontaneously cast cure spells, but it might be worthwhile for another in the party to be able to cure. If you take the scroll, that is one less cure spell that you will have to have ready."
DM Stephen: Belt of Koboldian Kind Friday March 21st, 2003 12:25:50 AM
(Just to clarify, the belt doesnt turn anyone into a kobold, it merely gives the wearer the racial abilities and minor natural traits of a kobold. When Shiraz put on the belt, he still looked like a minotaur. It does have a special glamor effect but it only affects the perceptions of certain viewers. I wonder who? This item works much like a Belt of Dwarven Kind but with a few added perks.)
The darkwood mask (DM Stephen) d100=28 d100=54 d100=86 d6=3 d6=2 d6=2 Friday March 21st, 2003 1:02:03 AM
Savin proclaims his purity and places the mask on his face. There is a sudden pause. Savin stands there quiet and still. He starts to look around the room as if viewing it for the first time. Anyone who happens to witness the scene will see an amazing thing. The darkwood mask appears to come to life. The mouth opens and eyes blink and it takes on a quality much like living flesh (but it still looks like carved darkwood).
Tears start to flow from the eyes. Savin falls, crouching to the floor and begins to whail a sorrowful moan. (Savin's consciousness is still aware but he doesnt feel to be in the driver's seat anymore. However he can still see and hear everything that is happening, he just has no control over his body.) Someone ELSE has now taken control.
"AAAIIEEEEEEE (sobbing and whailing), oh Mitirri ... my goddess, oh why have you done this to meee!!! The loneliness, the pain ... so so alone. OH WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME. AM I NOT WORTHY OF YOUR EMBRACE. OH WHY YOU ALLOW SUCH EVIL TO CREEP INTO THE MOTHER... such horrible evilll!!!"
The masked Savin continues to weep and cry on the floor. His voice is not his own ... it is soft and feminine. His body language and mannerisms has a feminine nature, nothing that remotely resembles Savins. Anyone watching this scene cant help but notice this person crawling before them is not Savin anymore. Savin crawls under the table and hugs one of the table legs. It's obvious "this person" is gripped in untold emotional pain and suffering. It's apparent she is disoriented and doesnt know where she is. Savin starts to rock back and forth while continuing to hug the table leg. Grasping it with such great force that it turns his knuckles white with tension. She starts to whisper to herself, "help help help help help meee...!!!"
(Savin make a Will Save. Savin still looks like himself except for the mask covering his face, which still looks like an elven female. Party's initiative)
Jurgen and Vus d20+10=25 d20+10=25 d20+3=17 Friday March 21st, 2003 5:35:07 AM [OOC: Hey. I apoligize for missing my posts. I've been far to busy lately and too tired to do very much. How do I manage to do that on spring break, eh? :D Anyway, I'll be posting regularly now. Thanks for your patience... Oh yeah. Does anyone have a completed total of who got what? I've been reading through the posts and am slightly confused. Anyway...]
During the weeks after their battle with the dragon, Jurgen spends a lot of time searching himself. He was sure that the Wold hadn't changed, but he didn't know how he did either. Every time he thought about it, he was filled with suspicion and worry. In fact, the only thing that kept him from completely losing it, was Domi. Sir Thomas was going to the temple and Jurgen felt the need to go himself.
His first visit was one that took away his fears, at least for the time being. And he soon felt himself drawn to the temple, every day. He would wake up and eat a rather fulfilling breakfast, then head down to this town's Shrine to Domi. He didn't find himself liking until he got into the swing of things, but found that he enjoyed the presense of courage. Each day, he looked forward to visiting the temple and visiting with everyone. It was both rewarding and enjoyable. He spent most of his time learning from the priests and hands(of Domi). After the second week, though, Jurgen had begun to find himself again. He was right. The Wold hadn't changed, instead, he had. Death was a powerful force and returning from it was equally powerful. It was something that could convert the most disbelieving or destroy the most powerful. Death was no mere physical thing. It was mental, spiritual and emotional. When he had come back, there were many reasons to be scared. But letting that fear keep him down was the part that could destroy him.
So, in a move he thought he couldn't make, Jurgen returned to himself. Although he was forever changed, he let himself return to the more carefree version of himself. Perhaps this time he would learn something from the experience...
Savin's Mask Experience:
At first, Jurgen laughes at the way Savin moves and talks, thinking it a joke. But he quickly realizes that his fellow Child of Chaos is not completely there anymore. Instead he was replaced with a new being. Two choices came to Jurgen's mind. Either try to rid Savin of this powerful magic, or help the being that was in his body. And of course, being who he was, there wasn't much of a choice.
First he tries to identify what is going on with his friend, other than possession. He drew on all his known magical experiences, to find a way to help.

"You are in the city of Heranmar, on the Southern Continent," as an afterthought he adds "during the Fifth Age of the Wold. We are the Children of Chaos, friends of life and all that is good. Are you alright? Can we help you? There is no evil here, but I can protect you from it if you wish. Both my magics and my friends are here to assist, if you need either." Slowly moving closer, he tries to put a hand on the woman's, but he doesn't move quickly at all. Slow and steady. "Come... tell us your story. If it makes you feel better, I'll give you my weapon to protect you and as a show of faith." Unsheathing his dagger, he hands to to her, sliding it along the ground. "Please. Tell us how we can help..."

Peerimus d20=18 Friday March 21st, 2003 2:29:32 PM
While at the glade, "Ilsidur, thank you.", and Peerimus puts the 2 scrolls into a side bag. "I will change my spells to include more healing. Right now I only keep one, as for the others, no thank you." Savin's Mask Experience: Peerimus steps back from the possessed man to give him room. The mask being carved from Darkwood and the elf maiden visits, perhaps a nature spirit is at work, espcially with the reference to Mother.

Peerimus will kneel and then sit back on his feet to be as umimposing as possible while he searches his mind for possible clues that will lead to an answer.
DM Stephen: prepost post Friday March 21st, 2003 4:08:29 PM
( I forgot to mention, the female voice has a strong Sylvan accent.)
Peerimus also realizes that she mentioned Mitirri, the goddess of Nature, who is thought to have died during the Year of Ascension. A goddess worshiped by the druids. The word "Mother" was commonly used to describe the Living Wold itself or the goddess. Peerimus realizes that this could very well be a Fey's spirit and not an Elf.
Jurgen recalls many occurences of body possession. This is definitly one of those times. Jurgen knows that Savin is merely being repressed while the spirit controls. He recognizes the mask containing Enchantment and Necromantic energies, but he is not completely sure. Jurgen knows that to forcefully remove a possession could cause damage to the host.
Savin appears to take back control for a few short moments. And during those short moments you all hear his voice telling the spirit to calm down and stop cowering on the floor.
(More to come - continue posting)
Sly Foxx and Luke d20+6=21 Friday March 21st, 2003 5:19:51 PM
Sly and Luke enters the inn after a very full day of work and play. Now they'll will all dine together. Sly enter at a point where Savin is possess by the Mask. Sly silently sits and watches Savin talking in a female voice and hugging a table leg. Sly will watch as the others come into for Dinner, Sly will motion them to sit and listen.
(Sly will try to make sence of this he tries to rememberhis lesons in Knowledge in History, taugh to him by his elven Mother.(rolled a 21)
Ilsidur Friday March 21st, 2003 11:18:43 PM
"Sir Thomas, I plan to make a significant purchase at the Catacombs, so I would like my share of the money and the gems, if that is OK. I uderstand I can take one-eighth of the money; that means I can take 4250 gp, and 250 pp. Also, I propose that we divide the gems 7 ways, so I propose to take 4 gems. If we each take 4 gems, that will leave 2 gems to remain in the party treasure. Unless you or anyone else has an issue with this, I will presume it is all OK. I am heading for the Catacombs right now. Are you heading that way as well, or are you waiting for something? I figure we can take all those extra items and change them for two of the best cure serious wounds wands that we can get. I almost used up the one that I carry right now when we were fighting Tumult. If we get two wands, then Peerimus and I can both carry one."
[OOC: Ilsidur is meeting with one of the salesmen on the Catacombs board right now. If you want, Ilsidur can take the items that we have agreed to sell, and get them sold at the Catacombs, to trade for the two wands. Apparently, we can get more in trade for the items than if we just take cash.]
Peerimus Sunday March 23rd, 2003 2:15:52 PM
Peerimus will relay to the others his knowledge of her mentioning Mitirri, the goddess of Nature, who is thought to have died during the Year of Ascension. A goddess worshiped by the druids. The word "Mother" was commonly used to describe the Living Wold itself or the goddess. "If Mitirri is gone that would explain her anguish of abandonment and the spirit is probably Fey and not elven." peerimus falls silent and his brow furrows slightly as he thinks over these matters.
Sir Thomas Monday March 24th, 2003 1:13:32 AM
"Sly has the chest with the money and items, I only keep the written record, however, it is fine with me if you take your share. Afterall, it's yours. I will go with you to the catacombs, but since you are already doing business there it would be better if you went ahead and sold or traded the items. I'll help you carry stuff."
Thomas goes with Ilsidur to get all that they need from Sly and then goes with his friend to the catacombs.

Shiraz Monday March 24th, 2003 5:25:56 PM
Shiraz looks at his friends,"This belt really needs to go to someone who needs dexterity more than strength, I felt it sap mine a bit but reward me in other ways, mayhap Savin or Jurgen can use it but for me it is not much use. As for the dispute over the ring id Jurgen wants it he may have it." Shiraz stops and smiles at his friends, "I will be glad o take my share of the treasure after everything is sold and you all are taken care of, then I can go to the catacombs my self."
Ilsidur Monday March 24th, 2003 7:28:36 PM
Ilsidur arrives back from the Catacombs. [OOC: Although I haven't finalized the purchases yet, lets presume that I have. It doesn't make any difference for this part of the game.] He straps the dwarven-faced shield on his arm, and looks carefully at it, to see if he recognizes the face. He addresses the shield, "I normally don't talk to inanimate objects, but seeing that you and I will be spending some time together, I think that I will name you the Shield of Visage. And since you seem to have a visage, can you talk?" He waits for a reply from the shield-face.
Upon hearing the voice emanate from Savin, Ilsidur becomes worried. He moves over beside Savin and tries to comfort him/her. "Lady, how can we help? You have possessed my friend, and you must let him go. Please tell me what we can do to help, so that we can get our friend back."
Sly Foxx and Luke Monday March 24th, 2003 11:00:22 PM
"Sir Thomas, the little chest is for the group use. Anybody can carry it, I'll even show you how to use it, do you have things to put in it?" Sly turn his attention back to the problem at hand, waiting for the answer from the possesed Savin.
The Story - (DM Stephen) d100=67 d6=1 d100=28 d6=2 d100=79 d6=5 Tuesday March 25th, 2003 1:50:25 AM
The crying woman finally begins to gain a little composure from the introduction of Savin's iron will. She gets up and stares out among you all and begins her story of woe.
"My my my name is Sayra. Im from the forests of Dremoria. My tree and I lived near the fabled Darkwood Groves of the elves. The years of our lives were numerous and blissful. During the days of our lives many happy times were spent as we explored the natural rituals of the druids. We lived in harmony and we frequently helped the elves of Dremoria with their sacred darkwood trees.
My last moments of life were violent ones. An ancient evil stalked the land. An evil so foul ... so dreadful. It fed on the blood of the living, dranked their life essenses away. Its thirst was insatiable. It was the bane of the elves and wildlife for what seemed forever. The only refuge from its fangs was the light of the sun for he was a child of the night ... a vampire." She begins to weep once again. Amazingly tears stream from the eyes of the mask!!
"The vampire found me and ended my life. But this vampire's dark plans didnt include my spirit's rest or reincarnation. Something strange happened, something unnatural. For some reason, something still holds my spirit to the land. I can not pass on ... I can not rest. I can still feel the essense of my tree, but it is different .... dark ... EVIL."
Peerimus's realizes he is right about her being a fey ... a dryad to be more precise. Dryads are creatures with close personal relationships with nature. They live their lives symbioticly with a host tree. If one dies, then so does the other.
Sayra continues, "I dont know what happened. My spirit was whiped around, unable to enter the shadow realm and travel to the realms of rest. I found my spirit pulled into this darkwood mask. I know not why, but I can not escape. The clerics of the elves did this to me. Maybe they were trying to give me rest ... I dont know. The ways of the elves were always strange to me. However, on transporting me back to their village they were ambushed by this Red Dragon!!! (starts to weep again) Killed them all and striped them of their possessions." She catches a glance of Sly, with the mithral chainshirt, as if she recognized him, but she then turns away realizing she doesnt.
"All this time the dragon has kept me in a dark place ... unable to see. I no longer felt Mitirri soon after and was all alone.
AIIEEEEeeee (weeping), then one day light touched my face again and I felt the presence of life. I assumed you defeated the dragon ... so you all must be powerful, but I had to make sure you werent evil. So I watched the one named Savin. I searched his heart and it looked to good, honorable and true. So I asked for his help.
I still sense that there is a great evil in the forests of Dremoria. Its power grows and its evil is tainting the forest as it spreads. That same evil keeps me from my rest. As a druid and a creature of nature, to exist this way is the greatest of abominations. It torments me so. Ive learned there are far worse fates than death. I welcome death ... I welcome passing .... Im sooo tired. I dont know how long Ive been this way. PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Trace and Radiant Tuesday March 25th, 2003 3:17:58 AM
Trace speeks up to the rest before the womne arives, "I will take the bag of dust and bottle of air if noone else wants them. I am sure there has to be more than meets the eye."
Trace feels his hearts strings being pulled as he listens to the tale and can not help but be led by his feelings. Trace steps up to the women and draws both swords and lays them down crossed at his feet and kneels to the women, "I am Trace of New Ellana, If what you say still plagues this land, My swords, my Radiant, my Shadow, and my slef will reverse this evil and protect nature and elves alike while finding a way to release you to your freedom." Trace feels a bit ashamed at speaking up quickly and without council of his friends that he has come to respect and depend on but the deepness of his feelings by the story were too much for his heart that his mind was not quick enough to stop him before he acted. Trace remains with his head down.
(ooc:Can I have the stats on the gauntlets of oger power?")
Sly Foxx and Luke Tuesday March 25th, 2003 5:53:54 AM
Sly freezes, unable to move but just for a moment. He'll get up and kneel next to Trace, Looking into the maskes eyes, He tell her "I was born in the area of Dremoria, our village was south of Darkwood Grove. My name is Sly Foxx, my father was human and my mother was a wood elf. One day our village was distroyed, all the people disapered, not a trace was left. I went for help from the Five Witches for help and that how I met these men. We are now called The Children of Chaos. "I too will pledge my sword to releas your sole so you can get the rest you serch for." Turning to Trace, "Come Big Brother, We'll take the Elven Highway!"
Shiraz Tuesday March 25th, 2003 10:49:48 AM
"Where they go as do I. I pledge my life for these elves and men, so you have also my sword." Shiraz looks at the others, "how long till we needto go?"
ooc:after purchases and sales How much will Shiraz have?
Peerimus Tuesday March 25th, 2003 1:22:46 PM
The young druids fists clench beside him, knuckles whitening. Sliding forward next to Trace and Sly he draws his dagger and cuts his left hand again clenching his fist so the blood flows more rapidly. "By my life's blood I shall do all in my power to help you and to destroy this evil."
Sir Thomas Tuesday March 25th, 2003 2:55:30 PM
[OOC: We'll just assume that Thomas came back with Ilsidur. Shiraz, you have what is listed in the post. When we have finalized the sales, we'll let you know what additional amount everyone gets.]
Thomas sits and listens to the story critically and watches as his friends jump in, rapidly offering their swords for this cause that lies close to their hearts. After some thought, Thomas steps to the front of the small gathering that is his friends (and any bystanders who may be present) and offers his input. "I too will help defeat this evil, but I have questions that need answering. What is your name woman? Do you know the name of the vampire? What can you tell us about how he hunts, I mean, does he lay traps, does he isolate members of a group, or does he just attack? What about where he lives specifically? How are vampires hurt?"
Once his questions have been answered, Thomas turns to Sly, "can Pryte-Honos traverse the elven highway? Last time I remember we ended up decending a very tall tree ... I'm pretty sure I fell out of it. If Pryte-Honos cannot go, then we will have to meet you somewhere. He has hooves of speed that should aid our travel, but I'll need directions."
Ilsidur Tuesday March 25th, 2003 11:02:40 PM
[OOC: Stephen, I presume by the shield's lack of response to Ilsidur's questions, that it cannot or does not wish to talk?]
Ilsidur listens to the request from the spirit of the mask. "I too am willing to help you in solving your plight. Vampires are an abomination in the Wold, and should be removed, especially if they are spreading their powers the way that you have described."
Then he turns to the rest of the party, and says, "Each of you should claim the money that Sir Thomas has detailed: 4250 gp, 250 pp, and 4 gems worth 275 gp each. I am planning to take the non-magic items, and the unclaimed magic items that we have identified, and trade them for two cure serious wounds wands. Unless I hear differently, I will be leaving shortly."
Jurgen and Vus d20+10=30 d20+10=26 d20+1=16 Wednesday March 26th, 2003 12:10:43 AM [OOC: Jurgen with take the Belt of Koboldian Kind, probably a better idea then Sly taking it, seeing as Sly fights a tad... All Jurgen's ever done is... um... I know this! Well! It was important! ;) Also, the Ring of Invisibility... If Shiraz has a need for it, it is all his. I'm just taking treasure! It's good stuff! Really cool stuff! In fact, I'd suggest Shiraz take the ring. And if Jurgen ever needs it, he'd borrow it. But don't you dare go selling it! Why... why! I'd be appalled! Selling a ring that would allow Jurgen to spy on the women's bathhouse... :) The bottle of air should stay. You never know when you'll need air, just out of the blue. So, Jurgen will take it. Just so everyone knows, I'm not trying to be greedy. Not much anyway. Jurgen gave up all his money and magic items[except a couple of scrolls and two feather tokens] to fund the fight with Tumult. Not getting anything to help there, so I'm just claiming some stuff that isn't wanted. And another thing, can we only get one Cure Serious Wounds wand? With 50 charges, that's good enough for the next little while. I don't want to go selling everything so that we can have a lot more healing than we need. Just a request, if you think I'm being rather silly, then go right ahead. But think about it, we've got enough potions, magic and other assorted goodies to last us for healing. With a Cure Serious Wound wand, then we should be set. Two would be overkill. And if we need more, then we can buy a second one... I'm pretty sure it's not much of a problem. Those wands don't come cheap. 11,250 is the marked price and at the Catacombs its ... considerably more. And if you want it maximized, then that's a huge amount of money. I know it'll help the entire group, but I also want to have Jurgen some goodies too. Anyway, enough of my bickering.]
Jurgen listens carefully, putting a hand on Savin's shoulder to comfort the woman. There were two people here that had to be thought of. This dryad with a tale of woe and horror. And his friend, Savin, one who he fought side by side. One who he risked heart and soul with. If it came down to it and there was a choice between Savin's well-being and this... dryad's... Jurgen knew what he would do. And he may regret it, but he knew what he had to do.
Vampires... Beings brought to life through evil. Beings of pure and unbridled hatred. They drank the blood of the living to fuel their pitiful existances. They were a disease. A plague which was to be exterminated. Fowl, undead and evil. Woe to any who stepped in Jurgen's path. They were undead and had to be stopped, but they were worse then the mindlessness of a zombie or a skeleton. Instead, they savored their entire being. Tales told of vampires who saw themselves as fallen angels, torn away from the favor of the gods and placed on the Wold to wreck havoc and regain their lost name. But Jurgen didn't care why they were evil, they were evil by choice. They knew exactly what they were doing and made the decision to continue.
"I will help you, but you first must do certain tasks for me. For one, leave my friend. I know of the harm that can come to two beings inhabiting the same body. Your life, or ending there-of, is important. Yet my friends is also so. If he becomes injured due to your possessing his body, then it ends there. My friend's life is important. But I will help you." His voice isn't spiteful or angry, in fact it is more compassionate than anything. There was much pain this woman had gone through and if it was in his power to do so, Jurgen would set it straight.
He sets some details over, in his head, trying to piece together her story. Maybe he could tell her some things about what had happened since she had died. "Sayra... Much has occured since your death. The Wold is a very different place. I would say you've been gone for... at least fifty years. Maybe a century or more. You say soon after you died you lost Mitirri. Well, that would be during the Year of Ascension. Many gods were lost as Marteaus attempted to gain godhood. He did, but Domi sacrificed his life in a gathering of courage to save many others. Many gods were lost, but there is a great return. Now there is a new set of worship and Domi is among them, but... I'm sorry. Mitirri did not return." He sighes heavily and continues. "But we will travel to Dremoria. Although I have heard nothing of it, that means little. I am new to this place and generally keep my knowledge of the Wold limited, but the evil that taints your forest will be destroyed. And hopefully, we will find some way to either return you to life or assist you in death. I do not agree with your desire, but I understand why you wish it to occur."
While he speaks, Jurgen tries to think of anything that may end her life from his studies. He also tries to identify exactly how she was put into the mask and what binds it together.

The grimacing shield (DM Stephen) Wednesday March 26th, 2003 1:16:20 AM
(sorry I forgot to comment on the shield.)
The dwarven face stares back at Ilsidur with steely eyes. Its expression does not change. It doesnt say a word. However, Ilsidur senses the presence of intelligence. An image plays in his mind. A searing blistering fire burns within a forge and its hot red light is all that illuminates the room. A human smithy with big tongs pulls a large piece of red hot metal from the forge. He places it over an anvil and grabs a hammer. He raises the hammer and shouts out a piercing yell as if enraged. The hammer falls and strikes the metal. Sparks fly and obscures your sight. When they clear an elf has taken the place of the human. He too yells and strikes the metal. Again after the sparks fall, you now see a half-orc. Then a half-elf, a minotaur, and all the noble races. Eventually Ilsidur sees a fellow dwarf and he too yells and strikes the shield. All their hammers strike the metal in time. The scene suddenly changes with a burst of flame. The finished shield floats within the flames. The faces of the smithys morph and twist and contort between one another in the face of the shield. You can hear them all yell. Then it is all over. You feel inspired to yell yourself (Will save DC 5). You dont feel evil or goodness from the shield. Instead you feel the presence of chaos. Also for some reason, you feel it already has a name, but you dont know what. It may take a little longer to get to realize its full potential.
Saving Sayra (DM Stephen) d100=15 d6=6 d100=41 d6=6 d100=86 d6=3 Wednesday March 26th, 2003 1:56:21 AM
(continuing to weep)
"Oh thank ... thank you, you for taking up this cause. You all are truely honorable, brave and true. Dont be mistaken though. The evil I sense is far more than the vampire that slayed me ... much more. It grows a little with every passing day. Ever since I was able to sense it. All the long years I was held captive within the dark place (the chest where the dragon put the mask), I was somewhere too far away to feel the evil. Now that Im out I can feel its roots spread. Yes ... I mean roots literally. I fear it has something to do with my tree. It still exists but it should not be. I died, therefore it must have died too, .... but it ... didnt!!"
She pauses to wipe her eyes and she looks at Sir Thomas. "I dont know the name of the vampire that slew me, he was known by many names by the elves. He may have unknowingly sowed the seed that this evil has sprang from. However, I dont believe he designed to cause this ... I was merely his meal. I feel this new evil probably could make a meal out of him!!!!
Many blessings to you all for your valor. A greenish glow pulses from Savin's (Sayra's) hand. You all feel good and revigorated. The scent of pine and fresh morning air fills the room." (+2 morale bonus to attacks and saves until I say otherwise!!) Peerimus is not familiar with this spell!!
"Now, I can feel that Savin would like to have control over his body again. If you dont have anymore questions I will give him back his control."
If no one objects, she will reach up and remove the mask from Savin's face and he will retake control of his body.
Jurgen understands with close examination that the magic used in creating the mask was divine in nature. It feels very foreign to him. However, he understands it must have been very powerful.
(party's initiative. The gauntlets of ogre power gives a +2 enhancement bonus to strength.)
Shiraz Wednesday March 26th, 2003 7:14:36 AM
Shiraz takes the proffered ring from Jurgen,"Thank you Jurgen." Shiraz turns and finishes listening to the girls story. "Well when Ilsidur returns from the catacombs, then we should be off. I think we are needing to be in a hurry."
ooc My wife is expecting at any time I will need someone to play Shiraz for a week or so. Let me know and I will send you the character sheet or Stephen can.
Sly Foxx and Luke Wednesday March 26th, 2003 7:59:15 AM
"Friend, are you alright? Did you hear what the Fay said? And Yes I aggree with you. We should start as soon as posible. I'll go get my things." Sly turns to go up the stairs, but stops in frount of Sir Thomas to answer his question, "If I remember correctly, Sir. That part of the highway was made for trade, So the big tree has a magic lift from entrance to exit. we are going the oppersit way then when we last use it, we are going to the edge of the Forest." Sly goes to his room and pick up his backpack and weapons.
Savin Wednesday March 26th, 2003 8:43:12 AM
Savin feels control of his body return to him. He looks down and sees the mask in his hand and breaths a sigh of relief. He looks up at his friends and says, "I guess we have a new mission." Savin chuckles and adds, "The first big treasure hoard I find and what happens, I get a horny ferret in my pocket and my body taken over by a tree spirit."
Savin stretches out his arms and legs and throws a couple of kicks in the air. "Sounds like we are going up against the undead. Does it make sense to try to arm ourselves against them. Maybe we should all get some holy water and such before we leave."
Savin looks at the remaining unclaimed magic items and then down at the mask in his hands and says, "I will take this bag of dust. Why didn't we have it identified?" He also takes his share of the money and gems. We need to find a trustworthy soul to safeguard this for us. This much treasure on the road will only slow us down." He brightens and adds, "I guess we could keep it in the magic chest."
Sir Thomas (+2 morale bonus to AT and saves) Wednesday March 26th, 2003 9:21:00 AM
[OOC: NOTE, the each party member is only entitled to 2 gems worth 275 gp each.]
"What about silver weapons? Would it benefit us to invest in some of this if we are going to fight a vampire? Also, the mask's inhabitant spoke of a greater evil; let's not overlook that fact. Certainly let's be prepared for anything. We may want to get some axes because she spoke as if we would be fighting an evil tree of sorts ... axes are more sturdy for cutting than swords."
Thomas goes and prepares himself and Pryte-Honos to leave.
[OOC: Stephen, can we purchase non-magical items like holy water, axes, and silver weapons on this page rather than going to the catacombs?]
DM Stephen (purchasing non-magical items) Wednesday March 26th, 2003 10:12:38 AM
(Not to waste any time, just list out what you are buying and deduct the amount from your gold. Items like these are common in a large town like this and shouldnt be hard to find. Prices are listed in the Players Handbook. Simply dedicate a paragraph or two to purchasing supplies. Makes this as simple as possible. Hint, you might be able to find a Grim, Undead Hunter, or someone similar at the temple of Gargul for advice about handling the undead and vampires.)
Peerimus (Endure Elements Fire, +2 Morale Bonus Saves and ATT) d20=18 Wednesday March 26th, 2003 1:13:12 PM
Peerimus has heard of such things as evil trees, corrupted from thier natural beauty by fowl creatures and even evil Druids. Perhaps this is one such as those, a Black Willow or mayhaps even a Treant. Peerimus sinks into his mind to try and recall information they may be useful to him and his friends.
[Nature Knowledge Check -8+9 ranks+1 int - Success if DC 18 or less]
Getting to his feet, Peerimus says to those present, "I am ready to be on this journey as soon as needed. I am going to stay outside with Yorrick and will join you as you depart."
Peerimus will then clasp his arms give a short nod and head to the gates and the wood beyond to be with Yorrick til the group also exists.
Jurgen [+2 Bonus to Saves and Attack Rolls, Koboldian] Thursday March 27th, 2003 12:20:33 AM
"Yes... Let Savin return to us and we will rescue you. Be at peace, for now. Your saviors are here." As the mask is removed, Jurgen gives Savin a few moments to breath and stretch while he turns to the group and speaks quietly to them. "We'll need a constant eye on him. Don't let him take watch, if we need to. I trust him, but I don't trust this Sayra character. It's the magic in the mask. Too powerful. If Sayra has no lasting affect on him, then nothing bad will come of this, but if she does, then we were safe. We must think about Savin AND ourselves."
He inspects the mask for a moment, as if debating to place it on his own face. He then decides against it. Although it might provide an amazing insight into their fight, but it may also injure him in the same way it could have Savin. No... There were other tasks to accomplish anyway.
"Perhaps one of Gargul's followers would be able to assist us on this task. Or at least tell us of what we must do. That is, if we still think of undead. And if our foes are trees, I shall burn them to the ground. Simple as that..." He smiles and begins to walk to a temple of Gargul, one that he may have seen during his three weeks of exploration. During his walk, he adorns his new belt, toying with it extensively.
Dreaming of Dremoria (DM Stephen) d100=52 d6=4 d100=5 d6=1 d100=65 d6=2 Thursday March 27th, 2003 1:25:05 AM
Every eagerly prepares for departure. Seems weeks of being cooped up in town has made a few adventurers sick with cabin fever.
Sly goes to his room and gathers his things.
Sir Thomas heads out to ready his mount and purchase some necessary supplies.
Peerimus head back out to his grove in the woods and waits for the others to leave the city.
Shiraz takes the Invisibility Ring on and off, testing its effects.
Jurgen takes off to the temple of Gargul with his new belt. The belt fits perfectly. He comes to a building with a great eye over the front double doors of its facade. The interior is dark. Only the light of a few candles light the main worship hall. Thin vales of smoke from burned incense flow through the air. It gives the appearance of ghost like figures and shapes in the darkness. You hear a musical chant being sung in low deep harmonious voices. The singing has a dirge-like quality. Priests walk around an alter in long black robes. A few people in robes kneel down in front of a statue of Gargul. Over on the side, a dark figure sits at a scriptorium style desk writing text in a large book with a big black feather quill. He works by a single candle. It reflects little flickers of light in his eyes when he raises his head to stare at you. The whole scene is rather creepy.
Savin starts to gather his things together.
Ilsidur finishes up his purchases at the Catacombs.
Trace is speechless.
(Party's Initiative. Just an idea to keep the Name line as clear as possible. You dont need to put the morale bonus in it. I'll keep track of that spell. However if you still wish to put there you may. :)
Sir Thomas (+2 morale bonus to AT and saves) Thursday March 27th, 2003 10:02:18 AM
Once the soul of the mask releases their friend, Thomas moves to make sure his friend is ok. "Savin, are you ok?" Once getting the confirmation, Thomas decides to test the mask as it apparently tested Savin.
"May I see the mask?" Once Thomas has it in his hands, he performs a detect evil spell-like ability on it. He concentrates on the aura that all evil emminates, then reports his findings to the group.
Assuming that the mask is not evil, Thomas then excuses himself to go. "I must make a few minor preparations. I think I will be ready to go in a few hours. I would like to stop by the Temple of Gargul and then the local weapons shop, and then I must, of course, gather Pryte-Honos."
Thomas then leaves to go to the temple. Once there, he expeditiously, but politely, asks questions of the clerics. [OOC: Questions include the following] "What is the best weapon to use against a vampire or an evil that is undead and emminates very strong power? Would it behoove me to carry silver weapons or holy water? Will a sword with minor magical abilties suffice in the place of silver weapons? Will a minor magical enchantment like bless weapon have the same effect? What are the signs of a vampire's presence? How would you go about hunting a vampire? Are they afraid of garlic or mirrors or crosses or holy symbols, or wooden stakes, etc? Where do vampires usually reside? Do vampires radiate evil to those who know how to look for it? Do you have any advice regarding tracking and fighting vampires or greater, undead evils? Thank you very much for your time good sir. Here is a donation for your troubles." Thomas leaves 50 gp with the cleric for his help.
Once finished at the temple, Thomas goes to the weapons shop to collect any items that the cleric suggested as "beneficial" in the fight against vampires or greater undead evils. [OOC: we'll have to see what those suggests include.]
Trace and Radiant Thursday March 27th, 2003 11:27:49 AM
Trace goes to the stable and retives Shadow and loads up supplies and rigs the saddle and bags for silent travel. Trace talks to the others, "Do we have any spells for elevating? Sly has brought up a good idea to use the Elven highway but we need to have floating or flying spells to safely get the horses up there. I would rather not leave them behing and I know Sir Thomas will not and I dont want to split from him so that he tries and takes another route."
Sly Foxx and Luke Thursday March 27th, 2003 12:14:53 PM
Sly pack by throwing things from across the room. Making sure that he has every thing, then check his pokects to make sure that he has the little Ivory Box. Then he down the stairs and to the Innkeeper for the bill, pays him and enters the tavern part of the house (were almost everybody else are. "Alright I'll meet you at the forest edge, HEY! Where's Shiraz? I though he was here with all of you. I'm off to meet Peerimus and Yorric." Sly is off to meet up with the Druid.
Luke Thursday March 27th, 2003 12:24:01 PM
The dog see all the action that his master is doing, that means only one thing. We're on the move. Luke follows Sly's every step.
Peerimus (Endure Elements Fire) Thursday March 27th, 2003 1:57:35 PM
Upon seeing Sly and Luke coming into the protected glade Peerimus walks over smiling, leaving Yorrick to continue his nap beneath a large tree.
"Sly, Luke. Good to see you. I assume the others will join us when preparations are complete tomorrow morning." Then in a more serious tone.
"You know him better than I, but was Jurgen seriously thinking of slinging magical fire about an ancient elven forest? I find that thought almost as distasteful as the evil we are heading to destroy."
Ilsidur Thursday March 27th, 2003 7:23:58 PM
"Jurgen, don't worry, I don't plan on selling any of the useful, or even fun items. I only want to get rid of the non-magical items that no-one has claimed, and sell the magical short sword and the huge giant-sword. I realize that two wands of cure serious wounds would be expensive, but apparently you can get wands with less charges more cheaply. The reason that I was proposing that we get 2 wands with 10-20 charges each is so that we have 2 characters in the party that can be running around and healing the warriors that always seem to be developing those huge bleeding gashes. What do you think?"
"Sir Thomas, why are we only able to take 2 gems each? There were 30 gems in the dragon's treasure for us all to share. If each of the seven of us take 4, that leaves 2 gems left over for the party treasury."
As Savin is restored to the party, Ilsidur also welcomes him back. "Do you feel any lasting effects of the posession? Do you know where this 'tree' is located, or how we can find it?"
Jurgen [Koboldian] Friday March 28th, 2003 12:08:56 AM
Jurgen walks forward to the dark figure writing in the rather large book with the rather large quill. His eyes seemed to pierce the young man's mind and he turns away for a few moments, as if protecint himgself. But now was no time to be weak. Courage. Honor. Strength. Domi asked for all these things and thus, he would walk towards the man and ask his questions.
"Hello, I am Jurgen Sturmjager. I am on a quest to defeat some undead. Do you know where I could get information on them, vampires and other strong forms of the reanimated. I'd like to know about defeating them and their tricks, and such. If you could help me out, that is."
Clay OOC Friday March 28th, 2003 9:04:01 AM
In Stephen's post from Salimar the gnome, he noted that 16 gems were worth 275gp each and from Tumult's lair. 14 seemed to be unaccounted for. We jokingly said that Sly conjured them up, but in all seriousness, I have discounted their existence in the dividing process and left those 14 all in the group pot until they can be accounted for. If Stephen says that they are ours, then you are correct, each group member would get another 2 gems worth ?gp each.
DM Stephen Friday March 28th, 2003 9:10:50 AM
Sorry I didnt post last night, strong winds knocked out my power (which happens often out in the boondocks) and so I went to bed.
I have to check my notes but I think I awarded the group 30 assorted gems worth 275gp each.
I dont recall Salimar the Gnome. I dont think he was created by me. Of course, my memory is not what it used to be and Im to lazy to look back in the archives.
Greg OOC Friday March 28th, 2003 12:37:29 PM
Clay et al, Stephen gave us 30 gems in the little treasure box, separate from the 14 gems that Sly picked up at the end of the dragon fight (for a total of 44 gems). The 30 gems were worth 275 gp each. We should each take 4 of these gems, and leave 2 behind for the party treasury. I have no idea how much the 14 other gems were worth. I think that Sly is dealing with that at the Catacombs right now. Or do I remember Ceil posting that she was donating those gems to the church? See Ceil's post of March 18th, when she had Sly Foxx donate the 14 gems and some gold to the church through Sir Thomas.
Stephen, Salimar was the name of the gnome that I was using to ID the items while I was DMing. Also, somehow a package of dust has shown up in the treasure list, but it is not in the original list that you emailed to me to help with the IDing. Does anyone know where this dust came from?
Trace and Radiant Friday March 28th, 2003 3:50:26 PM
(ooc: Finnaly!!! Someone has the guts to admit the obvious feelings of having to look things up in the archives. I am right there with ya Stephen!)
Clay OOC Saturday March 29th, 2003 12:27:31 AM
I stand corrected about the gems. Sorry. And I think I recall Sly donating those gems to Domi's cause ... but I stand with Stephen and Ted on the archives issue.

Gargul Temple (DM Stephen) d100=62 d6=6 Monday March 31st, 2003 2:33:23 AM
Sir Thomas detects no evil coming from the mask. -------------------- Sir Thomas and Jurgen find that the only cleric that pays them any attention is the one over next to the wall scribing his a large tome. In a low voice the cleric tells you this:
"A vampire you say .... I dont advise going up against one. If you are not successful, you will fueling his blood lust and maybe become one of his spawn!! That means more work for our Grim, Undead Hunters and Soul Searchers. However, I can not stop you from whatever you choose to do."
"We, the Church of Gargul, hate undead and all its various shapes. Vampire are some of the most vile and dangerous. Not everything is known of their kind. Not many survive an encounter with one. I will, however, will help you with my knowledge; which maybe somewhat limited."
"Vampires hunger blood more than anything else. They prefer the blood of the noble races, but will make a meal out of any warm-blooded life: animals, and other beasts. They enjoy the blood from the young most of all. They are burned from direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure will destroy them. Vampire can be killed with a wooden stake to the heart and you must decapitate them too once stabbed. Some will also burn the body and douse it with holy water. Vampire hate holy symbols. They will recoil from they are forcefully used. We believe that the positive healing energies from certain herbs also drives them away. The more pungent herbs like garlic, ginger root, wild onion are mostly used."
"Take no comfort in these weaknesses, vampire have many great powers. They have been known to dominate the minds of their victims. Make them do things they wouldnt normally do. They can change shape much like the druids. Many take the form of bats, wolves and rats. Their mere touch will sap away your life energy. Most who survive an encounter are never the same afterwards. Many survivors experience mental deficiencies. Their souls are forever scarred. Some even commit suicide."
"They feed on sucking your blood. Vampire may choose to make you one of them. We do not know how they do this. We have never witnessed the process or would allow it to happen. However, from examining the bodies of dead vampires, one thing is certain. They bare the scars of fang marks from when they were slain. So spawning involves their bite."
"Silver weapons arent know to have any special effect creatures such as this. I dont know, Ive never heard of such a thing. I hope this helps you in your hunt. I must get back to scribing. I hope you good fortune and may Gargul bless you in your endeavors."
(party's initiative)
Sly Foxx and Luke Monday March 31st, 2003 6:34:08 AM
As Sly meets Peerimus, greet him "Hail! Peerimus, where's Yorrick? Oh! there he is sleeping, Luke don't wake him, he might get mad." Sly turns his attention back to the druid, "Ah! Yes! Jurgen, no I don't think so, but it would not hurt to remind him not to. You was not with us at the time, when we killed the Young Red Dragon. We saw the Mother Dragon comming through a portal, I'm affraid we are going to meet Mother dragon again. When the rest of the party meets here. I'll show you the entrance to the Elven Road. It's not too far from here."
Luke looks at Sly and Peerimus, then Looks at sleeping Yorrick (under the tree). Wanders over to the bear, sniff at him and curls up beside him falling to sleep.
Sir Thomas Monday March 31st, 2003 11:18:27 AM
Thomas replies to the cleric, "thank you for the help you have offered. I believe it will help us greatly. We also appreciate your warning that vampires are not to be triffled with, but we really have little choice in this matter. It is an evil that exists that has been drawn to our attention. However, since you are so against them, maybe you will send one of your undead hunters after us incase we fail. We have been told that the vampire lives in the forest of Dreamoria. We are going to take the elven highway. WE have also been told that the vampire is accompanied by a much greater evil. We believe this evil is the symbiotic tree of a fey that is trapped in a magical elven mask that we possess. At least I have now armed you with the knowledge to decide if you will pursue this evil since you and your clergy have special skills for this task. We will leave you to your scribing. Thank you for your time.
"Oh, one last question ... have vampires ever been known live symbiotically with other creatures of evil or undead nature? Thanks again for your time."
Thomas heads to the local merchant shop. He purchases a non-magical two-handed battle axe, a great deal of garlic, ginger root, and wild onion, a set of wooden stakes, and 10 vials of holy water. He does this with a smile.
He then goes and collects Pryte and heads to meet the group. "And we're off!"
Peerimus (Endure Elements Fire) and Yorrick (Endure Elements Fire, Greater Magic Fang +2) Monday March 31st, 2003 5:39:51 PM
Peerimus nods at what Sly has to say. 'I shall remind him then. Well the rest may be some time gathering informmation and supplies for themselves. I plan to lay in the grass and enjoy the sun and fresh air. You are most welcome to join my friend.'
With that Peerimus stretches out in the middle of the glade, his head propped on his pack.
Yorrick opens an eye to Luke, lifts his great head and gives a sniff of recognition. The great bear then shifts his large paws to allow luke a comfortable place against his side.

Ilsidur says to Sir Thomas and Jurgen as they leave for the temple, "I think Sly has gone out to meet Peerimus at the glade. I think I'll join them. Why don't you come out and meet us when you get finished with the clerics?"
Then Ilsidur walks out of the city, and finds his friends at the glade. He pulls up a tuft of grass and sits down. He flips an apple over to the continuously-hungry Sly, and says, "I imagine Thomas and Jurgen should be here soon. I wonder where Shiraz, Trace and Savin have gone to?"
Savin Monday March 31st, 2003 10:08:52 PM
Savin thanks Ilsidur for his concern and adds, "No I don't think I have any long lasting effects from the possession. That being said, I don't think I will be putting on the mask real soon again. I will take the sweet dreams but having a hysterical women in your head is no fun."
Savin finishes collecting his few things and adds, "So what is this elven highway you guys were talking about?"
Jurgen Sturmjager [Koboldian] and Vus Monday March 31st, 2003 11:34:17 PM
"I assure you, none of us will become a spawn of this vampire we choose to hunt. He is one evil that we must stop, of many. If I die by the teeth of these creatures and am returned, I will have already saved you from the fiend's power to control me. Even if I must stay trapped in the limbo life known as vampirism forever, I will not let undead spawn that could not be killed by me hurt others."
Just as he leaves, Jurgen gives a brief thanks to the priest of Gargul. "May Domi bless and protect you..."
As him and the paladin walk, Jurgen speaks thoughtfully to his friend. There was much to be said but the words may not have been as easy to get out. "Sir Thomas. Domi spoke to me. Or maybe he did not, maybe I heard myself speaking. But I heard a voice, when I died, that is. It was telling me that I had a role in life to play, but being a foolish child would accomplish nothing. Power means nothing, if I did have the courage to use it properly. I am not the same, friend. I... I am no longer the weak boy I was. Could you see in my head? Oh, to show you like that. You would see magic, tactics, and genius unlike any other that I have known! It is as if, in death, I have been brought to life. I do not want to waste that. But I would rather waste it, than face the thought of hurting any of you. If I die by a vampire, do not even consider trying to raise me. One of you could be killed by my magic or by my hand, if I couldn't control myself. I want you to destroy my body. Remove my head and cover me in garlic, or whatever you must do. I have died once already. I have seen the Land of Shadow from both the undead form and the living. It is... it is a beautiful place. But Gargul would punish me for becoming undead and I will face a hell stronger and more evil than any on the Wold could imagine. I want you to promise that to me."
Trace and Radiant Tuesday April 1st, 2003 2:30:26 AM
Trace goes to a local shop and buys a silver holy symbol(25 gp), three wooden stakes(? gp), and a single clove of garlic(? gp). He then takes a bit of string and with some effort will make a necklace for Radiant. Radiant moves his head side to side not sure if he wants the smelly plant around his neck but trust his friend and finnaly allows him to do so. Trace then walks to a house of worship and purchase waterskin(1gp) filled with holy water(? gp). He also buys a signal whistle (1 gp). After his shoping is done he loads up Shadow with Radiant flapping his wings to stay balanced on Trace's sholder he rides for the forest edge to meet with the others.
Leaving Town (DM Stephen) d100=97 d6=3 d100=100 d6=5 Tuesday April 1st, 2003 10:13:03 AM
The cleric ponders Sir Thomas' question. "Sorry I know nothing of symboitic vampiric relationships with others. They may live together with other vampires they have spawned or some may keep pets such as creatures of the night: wolves, rats, bats and the like. Some even have humanoid familiars that are the eyes and ears of the vampires during the day. These humanoid familiars are a miserable folk. Often deranged from the domination the vampire has over them. We also call them Bug Eaters, because they have a taste for vermin. I hope this anwsers your questions."
As you leave the Temple and gather last minute supplies, you all prepare to leave for the Elven Trails.
Sly Foxx and Luke Tuesday April 1st, 2003 5:42:56 PM
OH! Look, Peerimus(Sly points to the bear and Luke sleeping together) if only everybody could get along like those two." When Ilsidur, Savin, Shiraz and finnaly Trace come into View. "When they get here we will talk about the Elven Road, I know you never heard of them, neither did Trace and he's an full elf. Sir Thomas knows about them too, but I think he forgot how to look for them. All the Elven Roads eventuly lead to the Capitol of the Elven Counsule." "Over Here, Brothers! Over Here." yelled Sly. Luke sleeps on.
Ilsidur Tuesday April 1st, 2003 11:55:16 PM
Ilsidur waits with the members of the group in the clearing, waiting for the others to show up, and head out on the elven road again.

On the Elven road again. (DM Stephen) d100=55 d6=5 Wednesday April 2nd, 2003 12:38:59 AM
So begins the lesson, after the group finally gathers together. Sly directs them to the Elven Trails. He explains how they are used and where to find them. Some of you have been on them before but you allow Sly his spotlight. (Or do you?!)
Savin senses a feeling of relief, hope, fear and anticipation come from the mask.
Sir Thomas and Jurgen feel fortified with the knowledge they obtained from the cleric of Gargul.
(Continue, your initiative. Hero points soon.)
Sly Foxx and Luke Wednesday April 2nd, 2003 5:11:41 AM
The party all assembled, Sly heads North out of the town to a cross road. He turns east East, passing the place where the five pillars are and the now crumbled old Monestary, down the road for about eight hours. There you all come accross another Road (going North and south), you all cross this road and into a forest (still going east). It's not a thick forest, horses and wagons can easerly get through, you can see it had been traveled before (but not too heaverly). After walking for about half an hour,Sly leads you into a part of the forest where the trees look funny. The are bigger than the rest of the forest and if you look up at the canapy the leaves are almost transparent, the sun can almost get through them and you feel at peace. The birds are singing and theres an abondent game. "Here we'll find the entrance" Sly tell them. Sly goes from tree to tree, going around it al the time touching it, then off to the next one. Then comming to the biggest tree in there, Sly walk almost all the way around it when he stops "Here It Is!" he tells them, then the halfelf and Luke walks into the Big Tree?? He just disappers into the tree?? Sly pops half his body out of the tree "Sir Thomas, there's no stairs in here, But it has a magic lift, You and your horse, even a wagon will be magicly lifted to the top of the tree. Must have been used by merchants Elves." Sly body dissapers into the tree again...
Savin Wednesday April 2nd, 2003 8:03:09 AM
Savin watching Sly walk into a tree, just points and sputters. "What the...How did he...Wow."
He moves towards the tree and tentatively moves his hand to the base feeling to see if it is really there.
Sir Thomas Wednesday April 2nd, 2003 11:50:42 AM
On the way to the merchant shop, Thomas listens intently to Jurgen. When prompted to speak, Thomas offers Jurgen some comfort. "I have never doubted the fact that you have a purpose on this land. I knew such was the case when you appeared with your tatoo. I know you have such power and tactical genius in you too because of how you fought against Tumult. It was spectacular; a real sight of awe-inspirationg. I have watched you grow from the time you came to be with us. It was not long ago that I went through the same process, and in fact am likely still going through some of that. None of us ever stop growing. You are a valued friend Jurgen. We will not do anything foolish, nor will we jump to any conclusions about the need to kill you. However, if there is no hope for you, I will do as you have asked. I am now bound by Domi and my code of honor to perform that which I have promised, so just don't get bit." Thomas lets his tone lighten at the end to signify a little light-heartedness in his message despite the seriousness of the statement. He then winks and his friend.
Once finished at the merchant shop, the two hurry to the glade to meet their anxious friends.
Thomas allow Sly his moment of importance; really, Sly is the only one qualified to speak of the highway. Thomas travels in silence, but upon arrival at the tree he is anxious to be well on their way. "It's perfectly safe Savin ... go on in. We have been this way before." Thomas allows Savin a moment to enter the tree while he dismounts Pryte-Honos. He then follows his friends into the tree.
Peerimus (Endure Elements Fire) and Yorrick (Endure Elements Fire) Wednesday April 2nd, 2003 1:31:01 PM
Peerimus walks with his head constanlty looking about him at the great forest. "Truly beautiful" he says more to Yorrick then anyone. During the lengthy walk Peerimus will inquire to Sir Thomas about what was learned from the Gargul Temple.
Once at the tree and seeing Sly step through, another smile spreads across his tan face. "Truly magnificent" Peerimus moves through the tree with Yorrick just behind.
Trace and Radiant d20+10=26 Wednesday April 2nd, 2003 2:00:48 PM
Trace smile as little brother explains the ability of elven travel and simply follows. Before moving onto the road Trace takes a good look around to make sure that no one is following or spying on them. (spot check 26)
Ilsidur Wednesday April 2nd, 2003 7:03:05 PM
Ilsidur follows along after the party, making sure he doesn't step in any of the little 'surprises' left by the horses up ahead. When they reach the elven road, he smiles a bit at the memories. It was in an elven village along this road that Ilsidur first met the adventurers that would become his friends.
He calls ahead to Sly, in jest, "Sly, why is it that the elven road always involves us jumping from tree to tree? Next time, we'll take the dwarven roads, which lead underground. That way, you will always have your feet firmly planted on the ground."
When they arrive at the massive tree, Ilsidur waits his turn, and then enters and rises up to the start of the road.
Jurgen Sturmjager [Koboldian] Thursday April 3rd, 2003 2:13:18 AM
While still in town, Jurgen picks up a few items while Sir Thomas does the same. While Sir Thomas visits a a smith, Jurgen finds a butcher and a tailor, to which he asks. "Can you make me a Robe? I'll give you double what you want, if it can be done within the hour.
Taking the butchered pig and placing it into it's own backpack, then putting that into his Bag of Holding, Jurgen attempts to rid himself of the smell of blood. He places his garlic on assorted places on his clothes., in pockets and smearing it along it's arms and neck. Reeking horribly of garlic was much better than becoming that which he hated. Finding a bathhouse, he makes a quick change and switches his garlic smeared clothes for his dispel magic wand in his Glove of Storing. He places his new robe on, testing it out. New looks for a new man... And his old clothes were getting a bit bloody, after three or four battles.
Finally, he returns to the party, with a slight grin on his face. "Let us ride forward until we can go no farther, for only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go."
A sigh emits from Jurgen upon reaching the magical portals of the Elven Highway. It was an interesting magic, but he wouldn't have time to examine it. Or toy with it. In fact, he didn't feel much of a desire to do mess with it. Youthful adventure wasn't big on his list of things to do at the moment. Who knew if the magic would even accept him. Oh well. He would take the first step in faith. He didn't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.
Sir Thomas Thursday April 3rd, 2003 10:13:40 AM
Thomas spends some travel time filling in Peerimus and the rest of the group regarding his knew knowledge of vampires. He then tucks one stake safely in his belt and hands out the rest to his friends. "It seems that we'll be needing these. Keep them handy."
In response to Jurgen's statement, Thomas smiles. "In New Elennaian society, we quote Dr. Robert H. Schuller. 'For what great thing would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?' Though sometimes we simply use the old tongue to describe the goals for the day, 'Cetius, Altius, Fortius ... Carpe Diem.'"
Peerimus (Endure Elements Fire) and Yorrick (Endure Elements Fire) Thursday April 3rd, 2003 7:38:14 PM
Peerimus listens carefully to Sir Thomas and tucks the stake given into his pack. "Does anyone know who constructed or how long ago the this was constructed?" the wide eyed and still smiling young druid asks.
Savin Thursday April 3rd, 2003 11:48:52 PM
Savin just follows along marvelling at the magic. "Those elves sure have some skills." he thinks to himself.
Elven Trails (DM Stephen) d100=78 d6=1 d100=98 d6=2 Friday April 4th, 2003 2:30:44 AM
Everyone feels themselves slide up through the tree (like an elevator). As you approach the top, Sly helps each of you out of the tree. You all find yourselves on a platform high above the ground. There is a nice canopy covering the platform. Hand rails also surround the platform for your protection. Everything is beautifully carved in the elven style. Funny, you never noticed this while on the ground.
There is an opening in the railing facing outward toward the forests. You all see no trail, just open air and a long drop to the ground. Some of you are shocked to see Sly just step out onto the emptiness. Amazingly, he doesnt fall!!! He appears to be walking on air. As each of you stand out from the platform you see a truely wonderous sight. Suddenly everyone sees a long trail sparkling through the air and around the trees. It looks like billions and billions of tiny sparklets of light merging together to form a solid foundation to walk on.
Its absolutely amazing ... breath-taking sight of magic mixed with majestic forests as far as the eye can see. Travel across the trail is effortless. Sometimes the trails loops upward, around and upsidedown. Gravity seems not to have any pull on you as you look up at the ground!!!!
However most of the trail, thankfully, remains right-side up for the majority of the time. The distance you cover is mind boggling. Sir Thomas' steed couldnt have traveled this distance on the ground in the same amount of time. Even with his magic horseshoes.
Suddenly up ahead, you all can't help but hear singing. However, it doesnt sound pleasureable. It is somber, much like a funeral dirge. In the distance looks to be dozens of humanoids wearing glimmering armor and colorful robes. They march slowly and in perfect step. Some hold banners, others carry candles from long metalic candelabras. Two humanoid figures sit in a double chair that is held up and carried on poles across the shoulders of a dozen other humanoids.

Sly Foxx and Luke d20+3=18 Friday April 4th, 2003 3:41:26 AM
As the party assembles on the platform, Sly is looking at the beautiful scene in frount of him, "Brothers! it always amazes me on the beauty up here. (Sly points south)That the way to Hook City, (then he points North) thats the way to my village." Sly turn to face the group, "Now we can stay here for the night or take the leap of faith." with this said Sly goes to the edge of the platform and jumps off. Luke follows Sly. Sly and Luke does not fall, but takes a few steps ahead (about 200ft.)waiting there for the rest of the people. Sly want to see their expression on their faces, when they get on the road for the first time. When all together, Sly smiles to himself like he had pulled off a privet joke. Walking along, what seem like minutes, suddenly up head was some thing or some persons coming at them, "Hmmm! I wonder??" Sly ask Trace and Jurgen.
Trace and Radiant d20+1=19 d20+10=26 Friday April 4th, 2003 4:08:08 AM
Trace moves on the the road behind Sly and continues to walk looking around and taking in the scenery. Trace then turns to Sly, "I wonder if these roads leads back to my land. A place called New Ellana. I come from a wood elf tribe north of that town. It is ....was a great village in the trees." Thinking of his lost family puts Trace in a solom mood. As he continues to look around. He sees a band of people up ahead in some sort of ritual garb. He is sure he knows this somehow. Trace confirms his thoughts with Sly on what he thinks is happening up ahead. Trace also at that moment takes time to keep an eye out in there surroundings for anything following them or watching them (26 for spot check). Trace waits for the others as he pets Radiant and feeds him a bit of food.
Ilsidur d20+1=8 Friday April 4th, 2003 12:43:10 PM
Ilsidur follows along in the party, still struggling with the magical route that party is taking. "I still say that we should stay on good solid ground. This walking on fairy dust is hard to get used to, almost as bad as riding horses."
As the party comes across the group of humanoids, Ilsidur tries to figure exactly what is going on, but he has never seen a sight such as this one before. [OOC: Int roll of 8, a fail.]
Peerimus (Endure Elements Fire) and Yorrick (Endure Elements Fire) d20=1 Friday April 4th, 2003 5:38:05 PM
Peerimus continues to enjoy walking, now literally among the trees with Yorrick by his side and his right hand on the back of the bears furry neck.
As the other group comes into view, Peerimus just blissfully stares about and looks on at the apparent procession heading towards the group. [OCC: int roll of 1+1=2, least it's out of the way]
"Wonder who they are, either a funeral or some rather important travellers"

"I guess we shouldn't trip... Long way down." He runs a hand along the bridge below him, trying to see if he can touch it. "Now that's strange if you ask me..." He keeps touching it for a little while and eventually starts to consider it's magic. Sure, it was strong and powerful. It was useful, but if they got ambushed, a good way to escape may be to remove the bridge from the equation.
[Spellcraft Check - Success if DC 17 - 10 + 1 intelligence + 9 ranks]
He can't help but enjoy the beauty around him. Each tree held it's own power and worthiness. Each tree spoke to him. As if they were there for him to enjoy and him alone. He felt much like an ant who had spent it's whole life trapped under a mug and then one day, the glass was just taken away. It was both amazing and scary. Jurgen liked being closed in. He had spent his younger life in mines and now he was surrounded by open air and the calmness of nature. Towards the ground he points, mostly for himself, at a serenely cascading waterfall. "Amazing..."
[Intelligence Check - DC 18 - Success at 19 + 1 Intelligence 20]
In the distance, Jurgen catches the mournful hymms and looks up. He tries to make out what the banners are for, but quickly realizes that he would know nothing of it. Even if he could tell what they were it couldn't tell what they ment. In fact, they could have been hostile and Jurgen may very well take them as welcoming. Time to get ready for a battle, then. "Armor On." From his backpack, his newly acquired chainmail covers his body and protects him. He may not have been trained in it's use, but it would definately protect him much more and make him appear stronger than he was. Then again, his new robe did happen to cover it up. Still... "Veneficus loricatus." As he speaks, his spell unravels from his mind and takes form in an invisible protection.

Welcome wagon (DM Stephen) d100=7 d4=2 (not good) Monday April 7th, 2003 2:05:00 AM
Several of you understand full well what is going on. Both Sly and Trace understand this is a type of elven funeral. Jurgen understands that too, the songs he hears speak of passing into the afterlife. Trace and Sly know the type of funeral this is, but why is there so many armed elves accompaning them.
(Thus beginneth the lesson) Elves have incredibly long lives ... in fact they have been known to be immortal. But there comes a time in all elves lives where the feel the pull to enter their afterlife. During this time an elf can willingly enter the plane of shadow and travel to the realms of rest. This traveling to the Lands of Rest is usually a trek they do by themselves, however loved ones my decide to go with them. No one can remember a time where so many accompanied an elder to the afterlife! (Endeth the lesson)
After the large procession comes within 50-ft of the Children of Chaos they halt. They all stand in full attention. They are all decked out in masterwork-looking armor, swords and bucklers. Quivers are worn but you dont see any bows. There are others with robes on and they hold the candles and banners. There appears to be a elven man and woman sitting in the chair that is carried by a dozen or so elves by poles. The two elders sitting in the chair dont appear to be paying attention. They merely hold hands and stare into each others eyes.
One stoic elf (who looks to be an officer) steps forward and gives a hand signal. A group of eight soldiers then step forward with the him and walk toward the party. The officer and his troop stop just 10-ft away from you. The officer looks at every single one of you. A fleeting expression of wonderment comes across his face as he looks at the minotaur. However his emotionless composure returns but there is a hint of disgust. He looks hard at Sly and then turns to Trace. The officer speaks to Trace with a harsh tone. "What gave you the authority to bring outsiders here!!" Turning to Sly ... "Don't you know these trails are sacred to the elves and are meant for only ELVES!!!"
You can tell he is restraining a great deal of anger. His eyes keep tracing back to the elders. It is obvious that if it wasnt for the presence of the elders the officer, more than likely, wouldnt be soo restrained.
"What excuse do you have to allow outsiders to travel on our secret trails? You (Trace) and the half breed (Sly) are the only ones who should be here." The officer sighs and steps off the trail. A new trail branches off to a tree nearby. It looks to be an exit tree to Sly and Trace. "I demand you and your ... friends ... get off the trail ... now!!" He forcefully points to the tree.
Sir Thomas d20=3 Monday April 7th, 2003 11:24:08 AM
Thomas walks with the group leading Pryte, and, like his dwarven friend Ilsidur, is oblivious to what is going on. [Rolled 3 + 2 INT = 5 knowledge check] He doesn't see the need to prepare for battle, but the preparation of his friends makes him uneasy. "Wouldn't it be nice if everyone didn't automatically jump to the conclusion that people were out to hurt them?" Thomas lets out an audible sigh.
Thomas begins to question his first instinct when the elven warrior takes such a harsh tone. Thomas need not understand elven to know the jist of what is occuring; body language is a universal language. Working under the assumption that the elves truely don't mean the group harm because they seem to be allowing for an exit, and not wanting to cause further anger to the elves by being an unworthy contributor, Thomas whispers to his friends, "let's not cause trouble you guys. Tell us to do whatever they ask."
Sly foxx and Luke Monday April 7th, 2003 11:50:37 AM
Sly seeing what Sir Thomas is doing, whispers to Trace 'Big Brother, I think you'll have to take over the comversation, these Elves will only speak to you only because your a full elf. They woun't listen to me or Jurgen never mind a Human(Sir Thomas) even if he is a Paladin.' Sly sits on his honches and pets Luke.
Ilsidur Monday April 7th, 2003 12:46:59 PM
[OOC: Stephen, it is unclear in your post whether or not the elves spoke in elven, so, like Clay, I will assume that they did. Either way, my post would be very similar.]
Not understanding elven, Ilsidur turns to Sir Thomas, and with a puzzled look, asks, "What are they saying? They surely seem upset about something. What have we done to upset them?"
Peerimus (Endure Elements Fire) and Yorrick (Endure Elements Fire) Monday April 7th, 2003 1:04:20 PM
Peerimus watches the rather agitated elf and the looks of his companions, at least he's not the only human who does not understand the actual conversation. To whoever is standing near him and looking at the new 'Branch' of the road that has just appeared, "Such closemindedness. It seems we are to leave this wondrous magical road."
Trace and Radiant Monday April 7th, 2003 1:18:57 PM
Trace steps forward to speak with the officer. "I am Trace and these are my friends. We are known in some areas as the children of chaos. We have been bound together by a strange but powerfull fate to battle evil that pleagues this land. We just destroyed an evil red dragon called Tumlet wich reigned over several towns near Hernamar. Before you say the concern of humans in no matter to us elves brother, we discovered a deeper line of evil within the caves of Tumlet wich lead through your land in the dark wood. We have reason to beleave that there is a vampire and possibly something more dangerous than that focused aroud a tree in the dark wood. To let our group pass would only benifit our kind and thus expedite our task at hand. Please understand we only travel this route to save the lives of elves. We mean no disrespect to your clan and only offer our given skills to rid the evil in the land. That is our destiny." With that last bit Trace gives a slight bow but makes sure that he talks clear enough and maybe loud enough that the others in the procession might hear the conversation.
DM Stephen ooc. Monday April 7th, 2003 2:52:28 PM
(Sometimes late at night when I post, I accidentally leave out important info [especially when sleepy]. You are correct, the officer is speaking elven. I may have included that originally, but I obsessively edit my posts and sometimes things get deleted by mistake.)
Jurgen Sturmjager [Koboldian] [Mage Armor] [Armor On] [Comprehend Languages] d20+3=22 Monday April 7th, 2003 9:03:24 PM
When the elf begins to talk and Jurgen understands nothing, he quickly brings up one of his more useful spells. Soon, he'd understand every word that was spoken. He wouldn't be able to speak it, but Trace could do that for him.
The passing of an elf to the realm of shadow was an event to be considered holy. With their extended lives, they deserved at least respect at their time of leaving. Death was a difficult subject, but probably much more difficult for the elves. It would take enormous energy and will-power to make that movement, which Jurgen was to respect. He gets down, onto one knee, and lowers his head to the officer.
He then begins to recall the hymn of passing, sung by the elves ahead of him. He would give his respect in the best manner that he could, even if he didn't know it perfectly. His youthful voice soon begins to bring forth a mourning chant, to whoever was going to the shadow realm.
[Perform Check - 19 + 3 Charisma - Success of DC 22 or lower]
As his hymn comes to an end, he hopes he had not offended anyone. The voice of Jurgen may not have had the beauty of an elf, but it had the beauty of a child... "Trace, ask him if we can give our respects and continue on the road. Although we are humans, among other beings, we are on a mission of great importance. Evil has struck the elven forests and we must purge them, countless others will be injured if we do not act quickly." He keeps his head down, respecting the officer.
Savin Monday April 7th, 2003 10:46:34 PM
Savin relaxes as the visitors seem intent on speech instead of action. He to can read body language and realizes that they must have broken some taboo. He pulls out the elven mask and holds it up and says in common. "I have sworn a vow to help one of the fey creatures whose spirit has been enslaved in this mask. We need to cross your lands to achieve this mission and humbly ask your permission to proceed. We mean no harm and might bring aid top your forest and homes as an evil blight is starting to spread across these lands. Please let us continue in peace. I believe speed is esentential to the success of our vow."
Shock and Awe (DM Stephen) d100=76 d6=5 Tuesday April 8th, 2003 1:40:12 AM
The stoic officer of the elves seems unwilling to listen to any reasons or excuses. When Jurgen bows and shows reverance to the event taking place, his expression turns to curious and almost amazement. Not from the fact that Jurgen's voice sounds like a kobold but that he seems aware enough to understand the gravity of the situation and the grace and manner he exhibited in expressing it.
When Savin holds up the mask and says his words, a priestly elf, near the elders, drops her candle in shock! The elders take notice and signal for there chair to be lowered. The male elder stands and walks toward the party. The soldiers quickly part with their heads bowed. The officer instantly kneels down to one knee. In the Common language the elder speaks, "By the gods, do you not know what you hold there, son. That is a Death Mask. How did you come to possess such a holy artifact." Everyone in the elders party, upon hearing the words Death Mask, drop to their knees and start to pray.

Sly Foxx and Luke Tuesday April 8th, 2003 7:49:40 AM
Sly notices the reaction from the funeral procession, will now put one knee down on the road. As Sly parts a little bit (to let Savin through), he whispers to the monk "You have their full attention now, I'll bet that all can understand common, You tell them and let them have a very good look at the Mask. I don't want to put pressure on you, But that Armor and Weapons are all made of Mitharel!" Sly holds on to Luke collar, because the dog is getting skiddish and knows that something is going on. "Easy Luke, nothing is going to happen."
Savin Tuesday April 8th, 2003 9:43:18 AM
Savin watches the elder approach and realizes that he is seeing a leader of people who commands respect from commoner and warrior alike. The elf who has been most likely alive and leading his people before Savin's great great great great grandfather. This elf deserves his respect. The monk bows deeply to the elder while holding the mask to his chest.
"Your honor, thank you for your courtesy. My name is Savin. I am a member of this group who are called the Children of Chaos. We have been brought together by fate, or the gods to battle evil where we find it. We are marked for this distinction by these tatoos which magically formed on our wrists and arms." Savin will hold up his tatoo.
"On our last adventure, we were part of some cosmic game where evil and good pitted were against each other. The Children of Chaos with the help of the Three Crones had to battle an evil Red Dragon named Tulmut. We were able to defeat the horrible wurm, though it was a very close thing. Upon his death we found many interesting and varied magic. The mask was part of the treasure.
I choose the mask, or it may have chosen me. I am not sure. At first it gave me wonderful dreams. I have never sleep so well or felt so rested in my short life. Finally I tried the mask on when attempts at identifiying its magic went for nought. I was possessed by a tree spirit. A dryad named Sayra. She explained that her spirit was forced into the mask by a vampire. She also stressed that the vampire was just the lacky for an even stronger evil that is somehow dominating her tree. Sayra warned that this evil is spreading a little more each and every day.
I have vowed to try and free Sayra from her inprisonment. My friends have also pledged there support. We were traveling along your beautiful roads in the trees to try to speed our journey to accomplish our goal.
I apologize for any taboo we may have broken. I ask for your wisdom and understanding. If you have any knowledge of what we are going to face, I ask you to share it with us. We are going to battle with the purest of hearts but with little knowledge on what we might face."
After Savin finishes he will again bow and wait for a response.
Sir Thomas Tuesday April 8th, 2003 12:38:32 PM
Thomas responds to Ilsidur with as much ignorance as the dwarf has shown and in a low voice to avoid interrupting. He also remains conscious not to point or gesture in the direction of the elves and to look at the ground while he whispers in an effort to avoid eye contact with the angry party. "I don't know friend, but it seems to me that they are upset and want us to leave. See? He points to that exit that has appeared. I think we should leave and avoid the conflict. The only information I have that may help is that when we first used this road, I remember Sly telling us that these roads are only for elves to travel. However, the last time we used this road, we arrived at an elven city and they welcomed us with full knowledge that we had used the road. I don't think the rules of its use are well established among the entire population. I think that might be the point of this."
Thomas stands quitely as the events play out. He bows when the elder elf moves forward, but returns to his full height and stature once the act of respect is concluded. He strokes Pryte's muzzle to sooth his friend and himself. He allows his friends to handle this situation and trusts that the beginnings of a peacful encounter have already been established.
Peerimus (Endure Elements Fire) and Yorrick (Endure Elements Fire) Tuesday April 8th, 2003 12:39:28 PM
Peerimus clasps his hands across his chest, arms parallel to the ground and and bows his head. Feeling very much out of place, the young Druid takes a few steps back to stand behind Yorrick. AS he does so, he places a reassuring hand on the great bear and tries to force his nervousness to reside.
Ilsidur Wednesday April 9th, 2003 12:09:21 AM
Ilsidur also bows out of respect for the elven elder and the funeral party. He is very impressed by the eloquence of the speakers [OOC: Good job, guys.] He waits with Sir Thomas to see how the encounter unfolds. He thinks to himself, "Next time, we definitely take the dwarven ways!"
Jurgen Sturmjager [Koboldian] [Mage Armor] [Armor On] [Comprehend Languages] Wednesday April 9th, 2003 12:16:08 AM
Jurgen keeps his head down for a moment and then rises slowly, showing that he holds no weapons or the like, opening his palms. He places his tattoo arm up, so that it can be seen by the elder. Letting Savin share his knowledge of the mask, Jurgen stands respectfully without fidgiting or moving.
"I am Jurgen Sturmjager. A knight in the crusade of good, friend of light and a mage who is coming to power. I stand by Savin's words. We do not wish to harm this passage among the beautiful landscape. All we desire is to free Sayra and bring the elven forst back to it's previous undefiled beauty." He says very little, but just reaffirms that their intentions are honorable and just.
He gives a small smile at the officer. "I may not know your language, but I have certain talents that make up for it. Adventure with me and you may see them." He gives a wink and turns back to the elder.
Honorable Mention (DM Stephen) d100=87 d6=5 (good) Thursday April 10th, 2003 12:58:02 AM
Again, Jurgen speaks with noble words but his voice sounds like he had sucked on a helium balloon (like a kobold). However, the elder's eyes do not stray from the mask.
"So beautiful... so tragic. Yes yes, the Death Mask. Some times spirits are unable to cross the path into the Lands of Rest. Their escences blow around in the wind for they are still tethered to this realm. Aimlessly they thrash about unable to find their way. Our Soulseekers, on these rare occasions, are able to anchor the spirit into a vessel, like the Death Mask, in order to stablize them while they learn of a way to release them from whatever binds them to the Living Wold. Sayra isnt enslaved, child ... she is being protected. Somehow the mask became separated from the Soulseeker. It must have been the dragon, because a Seeker would defend such an artifact with their life. Alas ... the Soulseeker lost. Such a double tragedy. You say this Sayra has spoke to you ... she has bound herself to you now ... such a great responsibility you have! I can tell she chose you well." The elder gives Savin a slight bow.
He steps back from the party. "My name is King Farnolis, my time in this world is short but I still have a few last responsibilities as a King. Here ..." His cupped hands begin to glow. He lifts his top hand to reveil several decorative pins in the shape of golden pieces of holly. "Wear these pins and all will know you are welcome in the lands of Dremoria." (there is one for each of you, except the animals. Of course, animals are always welcome anyway. :)
"You all have a grand mission and I rest assured that Sayra will soon join me in the afterlife. I cant wait to speak with her and hear her stories of your valor. I wish you all the best of fortunes. The things we do in life follow you us into the next. May your spirits light the path for the future to follow. I bid you all farewell."
The king returns to his chair where his queen waits with a smile. The officer stands back up to his feet. The path to the exit tree disappears. He walks up to Sir Thomas and extends his hand in friendship. He looks upon you now with profound honor and respect. He will offer his hand to each of you if you're willing to take it.
The king takes his place in the chair and he whispers something to one of the other soldiers. The soldier blows on a flute... a short quick tune. The mass of soldiers, priests and choir split down the middle making path for the party to walk down; allowing you to continue down the elven trail. They all stand in attention.
Sir Thomas Thursday April 10th, 2003 1:42:31 AM
Thomas takes the hand of the elven soldier as it is extended to him. "My deepest and most sincere respect and gratitude, sir." Thomas bows and accepts the holly pin. He holds it while the two groups work their way past one another. On his way by the elven king, Thomas looks up and bows, "Sir" Thomas states with deep reverence. "May your way be all that you hope it to be. May your destination be more than you could have imagined."
Once past the procession, Thomas places the holy pin in one of his belt pouches, in fact pinning it to the pouch itself. It would not show from beneath his armor if he pinned it to his shirt, and it would likely poke him uncomfortably. Thomas walks slowly at first, but as his friends all pass beyond the elven party, Thomas walks at normal speed ... eager to be on his way; glad for the short, peacful intercession.
Trace and Radiant d20+10=14 Thursday April 10th, 2003 3:03:14 AM
Trace rises and shakes the hand of the officer and takes the pin and attaches it to his person. He then makes his way behind Sir Thomas and bows to the King and Queen as he passes.
Trace moves up next to Sir Thomas, "Well, I have only heard of stories of people dealing with vampires before. Mostly died and if did not they were terribly weakend by the creature and most never regain their strength. I must admit I feel a great fear in dealing with this type of evil. Even more so than a dragon if you can belive that. None the less, do you have any idea what the greater evil could be? I have a feeling that it is a demon of some sort. To consort with vampires and able to posses a tree tells me it might be a demon or demon like thing." Trace realizes that he is starting to ramble on a bit and laughs it off as he continues to look around for any possible danger. (spot check 14)
Sly Foxx and Luke Thursday April 10th, 2003 7:35:10 AM
Sly also rises to his feet, shakes the hand of the Elven Officer, take the Pin and attaches it to his fighting arm sleeve for all to see. He'll will follow both Sir Thomas and Trace on his way to bow to the King and Queen "I hope my Farther Greets you on the other side, for he died in Dremora, fighting off an invation of Orcs. A peacefull passing."
Then follows the fighters ahead of him, "I've been told that if a Vampier like your soul, he bites you three times, then you become his slave forever. Brrr!" Sly feels a chill go down his spine. "Come Luke!" the dog follows his master.
Sir Thomas Thursday April 10th, 2003 12:31:27 PM
"Trace, I understand your concern. I have many that are similar. However, I feel that if we are cautious in the days to come and we stick together like we have in the past ... all will be ok. The Gods of Good walk with us.
"I had not heard that Sly. ... We'll not discount that input, but let's try to prevent being bitten even once." Thomas winks at his friends hoping he eased their nerves.
Peerimus (Endure Elements Fire) and Yorrick (Endure Elements Fire) Thursday April 10th, 2003 12:38:15 PM
Peerimus takes the officers hand and firmly shakes it, then steps back a pace clasps his hands across his chest and parrellel with the ground and gives a deep nod. The golden holly shaped pin, he places on the upper left collar of his cloak. Being wholey unfamiliar with etiquette and such, Peerimus will emulate Sir Thomas. Bowing to the king and queen "May she light your way and continue to bless and keep those you hold dear"
Cacthing the others with Yorrick right beside him, "Sly, be easy, a vampire may be a dangerous opponent, but we are on the side of righteousness and good and are in Her favor on this journey. Take comfort in this thought as well, could Ilsidur's healing magics not be used as a powerful weapon against such a dark creature and my own as well? All will be well my friend."
Savin Thursday April 10th, 2003 11:46:48 PM
Savin takes one of the pins and places it on his tunic. He bows and says, "Your majesty is to kind. I beg you to answer one more question before you go to your much deserved rest. If I am able to free Sayra to the afterlife, what should I do with the mask and does the mask have any other properties that I should know about? Obviously this is a holy object to the elven people. I wouldn't want to unwittenly offend such a noble people."
Savin will listen to the answer if one is forthcoming and then gladly shake the officer's hand.
Ilsidur Friday April 11th, 2003 12:58:15 AM
Ilsidur takes the pin from the senior elf and says, "I thank you for your favour, and will wear it proudly. Rarely do elves and dwarves see eye to eye, but that does not mean that we can't hold each other in the highest respect."
Ilsidur also shakes the warrior elf's proferred hand. "Maybe we will meet again, on these roads or perhaps another?"
He moves with the party down the path left by the elven procession. As he makes his way between the elves, he pins the brooch onto his cloak, in plain view.
So long, Farewell (DM Stephen) d100=60 d6=6 Friday April 11th, 2003 1:48:46 AM
The elven king turns to answer Savins question before he retires to his chair. "I sorry, the ways of the Soulseekers are strange. Maybe soon, their secrets will be revealed to me. Im confident the answers will come to you. Find out what keeps this spirit tied to this realm and do what you can to eliminate it. Sever the tether, whatever that may be."
With those last words, he gives you all a final bow and returns to his seat. As you all pass by, they both give you a farewell wave.
Travel continues down the trail quite easily. You all feel you have traveled a 100 miles in a single day!! Suddenly Savin feels the mask is urging him to exit the trail.
(Party's initiative)
Sly Foxx and Luke Friday April 11th, 2003 5:33:15 AM
Sly is walking between Trace and Sir Thomas, "Look what I perchased at the Catacums, I traded my Ice Rod for this Sword, I think the Clerk told me that it was a Sword of Spell Storing, Now I can be use my magic and fight." as he is talking Sly will take the sword out if it's scabard, and show them his new toy. Sly looks towards Savin, "What is the matter Savin? You look funny?"
Sir Thomas Friday April 11th, 2003 8:50:53 AM
Thomas travels jovially with his friends. He will follow any instructions offered by Savin regarding the mask and their exit from the road.
[This would be your standard OOC post: "100 miles! I bet it was more like 1,000 miles! Or a million-bajillion miles! As a matter of fact I think I can see New Elenna!"]
Ilsidur Sunday April 13th, 2003 7:29:35 PM
Ilsidur looks over the edge, to see where they are descending. "Does anyone recognize where we are? What does the forest look like, if indeed we are in a forest? Savin, does the mask give you any other indications, or just that we are supposed to exit this crazy route right now?"
Jurgen Sturmjager [Koboldian] [Mage Armor] [Armor On] Sunday April 13th, 2003 7:34:24 PM [OOC: Sorry about missing my post. I'm getting really caught up in this DM Try-outs thing. I'll make sure it doesn't happen again!]
Jurgen shakes the elder's hand with a smile on his mouth and a twinkle in his eye. Eventually, everyone ended up liking them. That was definately a benefit of being a hero. "Thank you, King Farnolis. The chance to walk among the lands of Dremoria freely is a wonderful gift and I thank you for it." He takes the golden pendant and places it proudly, upon his robe, over his heart. "To visit your great kingdom is an honour I will protect with my life."
When the King begins to wave, Jurgen returns the favour while speaking softly to his friends. "I hope his Land of Eternal Sunset is all that he hopes. The Wold is a vast and wonderous place, but I suppose that life is only the first great adventure of living." He waits until the King has passed them before continuing on with the group.
"Sever the tie... That may mean destroying the mask after we destroy the vampire. Or it may mean a whole new quest on it's own. I know not. But, I do hope that we can take up his offer on exploring Dremoria. If for no reason other than to learn more. Not another vacation, I'd rather not have a chance for many sleepless nights. I'm sure we can find something to do. Destroy an ancient evil. Protect a dying people. All in a days work... Eventually, we outta find Tumult's mother and get rid of her. Blasted dragons."
While Sly takes out his sword, Jurgen rumages through his bag of holding and pulls out a small darkwood disc. First glance, it may appear shield like. Then, an illusion is shown hovering above. It is a three-dimensional image of the Living Wold, the lands of Rest, and the Realm of Shadows between it. The scene is in motion -- the oceans move and the sun revolves around the Wold, the Shadows shift and flow in their Realm, and the River of Blood flows around the Lands of Rest. Inscribed on the disc is "Jurgen Sturmjager Domi's Loudest"
"I won that, in a theological debate. All about the gods. I, of course, spoke for Domi. Sly was there." He puts his hand through the image, toying with it. It was something to be proud of. Some of the other people had spoke rather well, but the votes went towards him. Meanwhile, he continues to walk along the path, following whoever decides to lead.
Peerimus (Endure Elements Fire) and Yorrick (Endure Elements Fire) Monday April 14th, 2003 1:48:02 PM
"Jurgen, that is amazing." Peerimus says looking at the Illusional image of the Wold. "Domi's Loudest? It sounds as if it were an interesting debate." Peerimus looks about as the group moves to the exit tree to get a bearing on the sun and to take advantage of the groups height to survey the surrounding terrain. "does anyone know how close to our destination we may be? It would be unwise at best to step off this road and onto the vampires doorstep as evening falls. Ilsidur, can you detect the creature at distance?"
Trace and Radiant Monday April 14th, 2003 2:15:52 PM
Trace looks around to the others while they talk about an exit off the road and with a bit of a smile, "Hey, I thought the wold was flat?"
Ilsidur Monday April 14th, 2003 5:08:07 PM
Ilsidur responds to Peerimus, "I can locate an object, as long as it is within about 500' or so, but I can't locate a creature. Maybe I could try to locate the nearest vampire tooth? But I still need to be close enough to expect the vampire to be in the vicinity. There is a 'detect undead' spell, but it only works on a 60' radius. And if the vampire is within 60' of us, I'm sure we will all know it!"
Savin Monday April 14th, 2003 9:44:36 PM
Savin wanders somewhat in a daze trying to listen to the deathmask. When he gets the impression the the mask wants to exit the elven highway. He says, "I am going to try on the mask again and see if we can get any instruction from Sayra." Savin looks around and then tries on the mask. He thinks, "Sayra, Do you have any advice for us before we leave the elven highway?"
Over the River and through the Woods (DM Stephen) d100=55 d6=1 Tuesday April 15th, 2003 12:48:50 AM
(Im glad you like my artwork. I did Woldian Cosmology map. :) ------------------------------ Jurgen pulls out his debating prize and shows all the awe inspiring beauty and artistic skill in which the map was rendered.
Savin puts on the mask and Sayra seems to take control once again. Savin's movements become somewhat feminine. Sayra reaches out at the illusion of the map. Her hand pass through it. "Is that what has been denied to me ... Rivers of Blood through a realm of shadowy mist. It's sounds scary but I desire it more than anything."
Sayra then looks out over the horizon. "So beautiful ... its been so long since Ive looked over Dremoria with living eyes. The path is swerving away from the direction we need to go. The elven trails do that whenever it needs to to protect the travelers from possible danger. There is a disturbance in the woods in the direction of my grove. It is spreading even out to this point. I fear that the situation may be worse than I suspected. I have been stored away for way to long." Sayra turns back to face the group. "We need to exit the trail here and continue on the ground from here. The elven trails arent going to take us any closer." She points out toward the horizon. "We need to be careful from here on out. Keep a close guard. An unbalance of negative energy on a forest will have unpredictible results. It infects everything, from the plants and animals to the weather. So keep your senses keen and try not to draw too much attention to yourselves."
She steps off the trail and a path materializes to an exit tree. Its kinda frustrating about how the elves and Sayra can spot these exits and entrances. Everyone else doesnt seem to have the ability to spot them (not without magical help). Control suddenly returns to Savin.
(Everyone make a Wilderness Lore check. If you can. Peerimus and Trace may make Knowledge Nature checks if you wish. Or anyone who has ranks in Know. nature.)

Thomas exhales heavily, almost as if snorting, when Sayra tells the group not to draw attention to themselves. A disbelieving smirk sits upon his face. He then looks down at his armor and then at his very large steed. "We may as well get ready for all this forest can throw at us." Thomas' statement is mixed with humor and acceptance.
In contrast to Trace, Thomas mounts his steed before exiting the road. Once off, Thomas draws his sword looks around. He waits for Trace, Sly, or Savin to tell him what they are doing and which direction they are traveling.

"You are correct Sir Thomas, there is certainly evil at work in my Mothers garden." Then in a low voice to the great bear, "Be alert my friend." Yorrick stands to his full height and deeply sniffs the air for paossible nearby threats and Peerimus prepares his shield and club and then continues to look about for signs that the wood has been contaminated and which way would seem to lead to the heart of it.

Ilsidur follows along down the exit trail, looking around as he descends. [OOC: Wilderness Lore roll of 26]. He unslings his new waraxe, and readies the Shield of Visage. He looks at the front of the shield, and asks, "Well, shield, what do you see? Can your eyes see more than mine can?"

He says, "I am willing to lead the way. I am not especially good in the woods but my training allows me to get out of the way of most things. I have a working knowledge of most plants...at least the ones with healing or harmful benefits."
Savin looks around and then heads off in the direction that he sensed from Sayra is the correct course. He is trying to step cautiously and not make to much noise.

"Rivers of blood, rivers of life. It matters not. Eventually, everything gets boring. Why not make the most of what you have, while you have it. To quote a great Wizard, of long passed... Many who deserve death go on living, and some who deserve life, die. If you desire the end of your life, so-be-it, but you still have some time before we best this vampire and it's controller. If you choose to live, we will find a way to make it so... I do not wish for the end to come by your own choice." Almost reaching out to touch Sayra's face, Jurgen holds back. This was Savin... It would have just been creepy.
A brief glimpse of humour shines through his face as he considers the how strange it would look if he tried to... Yeah. It would be.
"These damned pathes... Why can only your kind see them? Oh... For the ability to see what others cannot. To delve deep into mysteries both arcane and divine." He follows Savin, debating jumping off and testing out his newly aquired ring.
Entering the forest (DM Stephen) Wednesday April 16th, 2003 2:06:20 AM
(sorry short post. electricity going on and off due to strong winds and bad weather)
Making your way to the ground is easy and takes no time at all. Some of you (Ilsidur, Sly and especially Peerimus) notice something that makes you feel somewhat uneasy. The sounds of nature arent there. No birds chirping, no crickets, no scurring animals. The shadows within the forests seem to be a little darker than normal. Its also near sunset and the party may need to find a good place to camp down for the night, if you so choose.

But if you ever have to travel the Elven Path again, You'll always be welcome, because you bear the Golden Holly." Smiles at Jurdon. Sly covers Trace's back, all the time listening for any sound looking for any movement and watching Luke for his reactions. "I don't like this, it's much too quiet." Luke listens, sniffs and trots ahead of Trace and Sly.

Darkness falls (DM Stephen) d100=13 d6=2 (not a good roll at all) d100=38 d6=1 d100=58 d6=4 Thursday April 17th, 2003 12:48:30 AM
As the sun continues to go down below the tree line, light seems to retreat at a faster pace. Almost like the darkness is chasing it away. It is silent ... no sounds of man or beast other than the souls in your party. Each of you can hear each other breaths, you can hear your own heart beat.
The majestic trees of the forest take on a more ominous appearance. Shadows distort their shapes and plays trick with your eyes. It keeps getting darker and darker.
Savin can feel that this is the right direction. Even with the mask off, Savin is able to pick up on trace surface emotions from Sayra. Her thoughts are filled with wonder mixed with fear.
Sly realizes that he hasnt experienced anything like this before. None of this seems right. The scene ownly stirs up memories of nightmares you had as a child.
Peerimus also knows this isnt right. In fact, Peerimus can feel the cold breath of evil upon him raising goose bumps up and down his arms. His bear is visable nervous and he makes short low grunts. He decides to walk closer to Peerimus.
Every little clanging sound of Sir Thomas' armor makes you want to wince. In normal surroundings, you wouldnt pay the slightest attention to it. But now, you feel you're making enough noise to drown out the bells of the cathedral.
Trace stops suddenly and spots a set of tracks... canine tracks. They look large enough to be wolf. Continuing to search, Trace finds multiple sets of tracks. They are spaced out far enough to tell you that the wolves were running. By this time, its getting hard to see and those without darkvision will need a light source.
Luke gets a wiff of something and darts off over to a large tree where the branches hang low making a nice dome around its trunk. If any of you follow you will find what looks to be an old camp site. There are some rocks gathered and placed in a circle for a fire. White ash is within the circle of stone along with some burnt pieces of charred wood. Its been weeks since this fire was lit.
Jurgen follows behind Trace. You wonder which is worse; the anticipation of impending doom or staring a red dragon in the teeth!!
Ilsidur takes up the rear of the party. Every tree looks to be the right species for the area, as far as you can tell. Thankfully you have darkvision. Then again ... are you sure you want to be able to see what MIGHT be coming. This all seems to be a very very very bad omen.
You all hear nothing, your begining to see nothing unless you light a torch. You all cant help but feel like you're being watched.
(Be careful, players. Keep one eye open!!! Party's Initiative :)
Trace and Radiant Thursday April 17th, 2003 2:42:59 AM
Trace tries and see the direction the wolf tracks but the light is going down. He has no choice now but to return his bow and draw his sword and torch with continual light cast upon it. Trace turns to the others as he draws out his light and sword. Talking in just above a whisper , "Well, I can no longer see. So much for trying to stay hidden. I have a pack of wolves over here. They look to have been in a hurry. I would say they were chasing food but I dont see any sign of the tracks the pray made. I suggest we make camp, I am tired and dont like the idea of tramping around in a strange wood with the hint of evil about. We set up camp and try to fortify our postion. I have a spell that will ward our area and it will alert us if something comes. Other than that I dont have a suggestion." Trace moves to the others in an attempt to close ranks agian.
(ooc: when I posted the entire house was pitch black and the wind outside was begining to stir. As I thougth through my post and typed I let my mind get away a bit and got a bit uneasy. I felt a bit foolish but then enjoyed the fact that this games provides a bit of escape. sorry to use board space for this but had to share.)
