Sly Foxx and Luke
Thursday April 17th, 2003 7:30:27 AM

I agree, I never seen such darkness, reminds me of nightmares I had as a child. We could try to find an entrance to the elven road? but if I remember corectly the road was bending away from the woods, so the safty of a platform is out. Luke found and old camp site. We could stay there for the night? I have my magic book with me, maybe I could cast Protection from Evil on every one? A nice big camp fire would keep the wolves away, but would it keep what ever was chashing them? Alright any more suggestions? any one?" As Sly is talking, he'll put away his bow and arrow, put the new sword onto his belt, he'll start picking up some dead wood for a camp fire.

"Alright Jurgen, I'll put some of that Holy water on my neck." Sly and Luke try to start a fire.

Stalkers (DM Stephen)  d100=27 d6=2 (not good)
Thursday April 17th, 2003 12:04:07 PM

From multiple sources all round at varied distances are the sounds of short grunting growls, wimpers and panting. Then suddenly a great howling, "Oowwwwwwwwww ohhooooo!!"

Sounds of scurrying through bushes and soft paw steps on the ground from all around. Light from your torches give you sudden glints of reflective light in the eyes of multiple beasts in the distance. However they are quick and fleeting in the dense foilage.

You all feel surrounded. However you dont have a direct view of anything. Apparently the creatures are keeping their distance ... sizing you up!!

Thursday April 17th, 2003 2:23:29 PM

Peerimus looks about the group as the howling commences and quickly moves to put his back to about 10' from the fire and calling Yorrick his side. [Spot Check 8+4=12] He then casts Barkskin.

"We should form up circling the fire with Jurgen in the center for protection and to be able to cast his spells unharassed"

"Given all other life in these woods is gone we must assume the wolves are under anothers influence or are beyond thier normal kin."

Savin
Thursday April 17th, 2003 9:23:18 PM

Savin leaps to his feet and stares into the darkness. He asks into the air, "Sayra, Do you recognize these creatures? Are we in danger?" He then places the mask back over his face.

"Normally, I would not be afraid of a pack of wolves with the numbers we have here, but tonight, I know they are directed by the evil that haunts this place." Thomas follows jurgen's idea to put some holy water on his neck. "Good thinking friend."

THomas his sword drawn and rolls his eyes at his friends directions to muffle his armor. "It matters not my friends. It matters not. Our welcome has already been arranged. Let's assume we make it through the night unhindered. I think we should sleep during the day ... in shifts."

Thomas spends a little time rummaging through his pack to pull free a torch and some flint and steel. he spends a few moments lighting the torch. Once lit, he holds it high. This should offer more light than just Trace's sword. Once he finishes that task, Thomas concentrates on the intent of the wolves or the reflective eyes. (detect evil). Thomas also takes a moment to look up into the trees above them. "Remember, the acolyte at the temple warned us that the can use creatures as eyes and ears ... as well as being able to transform into any sort of thing. Let's all be very suspicious. And let's get moving in the direction we want to go. I see no reason to sit here and let the wolves sense our fear or lay a trap for us. Besides, if we intend to take my advice and sleep during the day it only means we'll have to move at night."

THomas spurs Pryte-Honos in the direction that the gropu was traveling before the wolves began to make their presence known. He does not travel fast, nor far, until his friends show that they will follow his lead and his advice. THomas definately does not see any reason to go out alone and therby segregate the group. "Last thing, keep those stakes handy. We'll be needing them soon enough."

Ilsidur agrees with Sir Thomas, "We need to stay awake at night, and rest during the day. Let's push ourselves to remain awake, and moving tonight. Just move very slowly, since we can't become too fatigued. Then, we can rest when the sun comes up."

Ilsidur continues to look back over his shoulder, using his darkvision, and trying to spot trouble. [OOC: Spot roll of 10.]

"Errr! One question Sir Thomas, if I may. Would it not be safer if we rest at night? If we are going after a vampire, the night belongs to HIM and his pets? Why are we not safer traveling at day light and restings at night? I'm just wondering??" Sly will follow the others is they choose to move on. Sly will still be alert and watch Luke.

Luke stop at times and sniff into the wood, but sticks near the group.

Sir Thomas
Friday April 18th, 2003 8:29:26 AM

In response to Sly's question, "Well Sly, the way I see it, I don't want to sleep while I'm being hunted. We have more sets of eyes watching for this vampire if we are all awake at night, and we are much safer during the day. If we work it right, we might even be able to run on short sleep and forced marches and still steal half of the day for travel and such."

Peerimus (Endure Elements Fire, Barkskin +4 natural armor) and Yorrick (Endure Elements Fire)
Friday April 18th, 2003 9:04:00 AM

Peerimus stares dumbfounded as the group seems intent on stumbling about the dark in what cleary is the prepatory stages of an attack in his mind. Scout, circle, panic and attack. That's how wolves do it. Looking to Yorrick "They have done this for longer though, les go then." Peerimus will move to the right flank of the group keeping watch to his front and right with Yorrick on his heels.

To Sir Thomas, "I believe this to be an error. We should create a safe camp and explore during the day and keep watches at night until we have a better idea about where to go and then make for that place. Stumbling around in the dark where the enemy has a tremendous advantage will get us slaughtered like cattle. We can see, what, 30' at best. Yes Ilsudur and Jurgen can see farther but I assure you the enemy can see further than that. If we work it right only the lead group will stumble head long into the ambush that will be set and that we will surely stumble into."

Trace and Radiant
Friday April 18th, 2003 10:38:10 AM

Trace shoves the torch into his belt and draws his short sword and prepares for the eventual battle. "If these wolves are controlled by others then it is safe to assume that the others can see us at this moment and know of our arrival? Does anyone have an impresive spell like a prismatic wall to try and scatter the wolves and make them afraid? On the off chance that the wolves are natural trace cast speak with animals spell and then tries to talk to the wolves, "Do you know what plagues these woods? We are here to help." If the wolves dont seem to want to understand but only eat then trace says, "Wait, have you seen the heard of rabbits that ran through here?"

Jurgen Sturmjager [Koboldian] [Mage Armor] [Armor On]
Friday April 18th, 2003 11:12:40 PM

Darkness slides over Jurgen's body like a wet sheet in an warm bed. It was as if the deepness of the forest covered him instantly, deciding that his vision wasn't important. Each step becomes a dangerous mode of travel, threatening death and great peril. Finally, Jurgen realizes that he has no other choice but to give up their element of suprise. But if he got out a lantern he would probably be in trouble if a fight came along. No... It was best to stick with Trace and his light.

"Don't worry about protecting me. I'm pretty safe by myself. Just you worry about not getting hurt. We need to stop any attacks and all attacks, as quickly as possible. If one of us gets bit, worry about finishing off our enemies. THEN the safety of each other. And, I'm sorry Peerimus, this forest comes second to our survival. If I have to take these trees down to help us, I will. Sacred or not, survival is what we need." He tenses up, ready to cast his spells if needed.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Saturday April 19th, 2003 7:53:53 AM

"Alright! I though I'd ask, cannot learn with out asking questions." With that said Sly statrs to put out the fire out with his feet' muttering to himself "Thank goodness for magic boots,or I'd be dancing the Hot Tootsie Dance."
After puting out the fire, Sly will be about 5 or 6 feet on Trace left side, trying to as silent as posible.

Dinner time (DM Stephen)  d100=74 d6=1 d100=33 d6=1
Monday April 21st, 2003 2:03:01 AM

The light from Trace's torch flickers in the cool wind. The branches sway back and forth oh so slightly. It creates moving shadows against the ground and the surrounding foliage. However suddenly from the shadows each of you see other movement.

You can all spy glowing eyes from the darkness getting closer. After Sly stamps out the fire, fewer eyes glow. Its apparent that the light from your flames are reflecting in their eyes and not some unholy glow. The closer they get you begin to make out their shapes ... they are definitely wolves. However now some wolves stop and show their teeth. They snap and snarl while pacing back and forth. You can make out at least a dozen in your vision but you know there are many more!!!

Your own animals friends are getting quite aggitated. The bear bellows out at the wolves and stands up as high as he can under the tree in a threatening posture. The wolves retreat a few steps but quickly regain their ground. Luke and Vus start growling and showing their teeth as well. Thomas' mount grunts and snorts but stands defiant.

The wolves are getting closer and closer. They look to be starving. Many appear to be rather scuffed up and suffering from severe mange. Their actions appear desperate and they look capable of trying anything. You all understand that it would take only one crazied wolf jumping forward to bring the entire pack upon you. Many more apear behind the first group and are becoming more brazen.

Sly should start questioning the wisdom of stamping out the fire. For now it is harder to see and you're all completely surrounded.

Savin puts on the mask and suddenly his composure looks shaken and startled. "WOLVES," she shouts, "WHY ARE YOU LETTING THEM AMASS AROUND US!!" She quickly approaches the trunk of the tree and wonderously steps into it. Savin/Sayra is gone!!

(Party's Initiative. I suggest you start posting your AC and hitpoints in your name line!!!)

Monday April 21st, 2003 3:09:17 AM

"Vus, Start Blinking. Fast!!!" He speaks to his companion in their own language, while he tries to think of a plan. "Everyone... Prepare to run. Fast and hard. Blood will distract them, maybe even make them attack each other. DON'T GO CLOSER!" Jurgen begins to pull his bloody backpack off his back and gets ready to toss it towards the wolves. Suddenly, an idea strikes his head. But how many of them were there?

"Thomas, 1. Sly, 2. Trace, 3. Savin, 4... Wait. No Savin. Peerimus, 4. Ilsidur, 5. Me, 6. Perfect! That's less then we... Damn. Luke, 7. Yorrick, 8. Pryte-Honos, 9. We couldn't get your stupid horse up anyway. Vus can escape himself, but how is that horse going to outrun wolves?!" He kicks at the ground furiously, wondering if the wolves were planning on attacking soon. He didn't have time to wonder. Not any more. They let the wolves get close enough... Time to blow this third age ball scene!

"I'm going to... Oh forget it." Instead of finishing his sentence, Jurgen stabs the bottom of it with his sharp dagger, then heaves it at the first group. Moderately thankful that the fire has been put out, Jurgen's eyes adjust a bit better. The Koboldian belt caused him to find distain in bright light.

[Ranged Attack Roll: Success if AC 27 or Less]

An arch of blood flies from the Jurgen's hand, following the bag to it's destination. He gives a quick grin at the sight. "Now it's time to run." He turns on his heel and is prepared to go in whatever direction someone else leads to.

Monday April 21st, 2003 6:59:26 AM

"OH! Boy! I hope my mistake don't kill anybody?" Sly will go under his back pack, taking a everlighting torch, light it and sticks the torch into the ground.

"Brothers! OVER HERE! I last saw Savin near this tree." Sly will try to get Luke to follow him. "Luke too many of them, run to the tree now and fight later."

Luke with fur standing upright along his back, he growls, snaps at the air and froth drip from his mouth.

Peerimus [Barkskin, Endure Elements Fire] [AC25] [HP 50] Yorrick [Endure Elements Fire] [AC17] [HP51]
Monday April 21st, 2003 1:53:12 PM

With the fire going out Peerimus finds himself really unable to see much at all, but that is easily remedied, Produce Flame illuminates 20' around the druid. Peerimus steps right next to Yorrick and locates where Sly is, "Yorrick my friend we must stay with the others. I think this time there are too many and I will not be able to reason with them either."

Peerimus will try to get Yorrick to mave with him to within 10' of Sly so the Produce Flame spell extends the overall area of light.

[OOC: Still can't get my CS to open. Stephen, would you be willing to email me a copy of the one I sent to you and Jerry?]

Faced with such an apparently massive number of wolves, Thomas halts Pryte-Honos. "I feel like Tumult. I know we can kill these wolves as if they were no more than cockroaches, but the outnumber us greatly and so pose quite a threat." Pryte begins to walk backward slowly, bring the two back into the group and tightening the formation. Unsure of Jurgen's action, Thomas disrgards it, but seeing that others in the group have light sources he tries to scatter the approaching front group of attackers.

He spurs Pryte-Honos unto his hind legs and a forward lunge. Pryte cries loudly and lands with a thud while Thomas holds on to the pommel of the saddle and waves the torch at the leading group of wolves. "We don't fear you! HYAH! Go back to your darkness." Once the lunge is complete, Pryte backs slowly into the group again. The feeling of safety being important after the show. "Trace, Sly ... can you start shooting your bows?"

Thomas is prepared to defend himself and his freinds if the wolves decide to become any braver.

Ilsidur is puzzled by what the lady in the mask means. He says, "Don't let them amass around us? There are more than a dozen, and they move faster than any of us except those of us that are mounted. I think we get together, back to back, and start the biggest bonfire possible, to scare them away. Peerimus, if you have any creature-affecting spells, now would be the time!"

"Jurgen, there is no way that we can outrun them. We could climb into the trees, but that would leave the horses. Some of us can fly, but that leaves the horses, and the bear. Let's be the biggest, most powerful force that we can, with the most fire!"

Ilsidur shouts a word in dwarven, and suddenly the head of his axe is covered in flame. "Surround the tree that Savin just disappeared into, and lets scare these wolves off!" He moves to the tree, and puts his back against it, readying an attack if he still has an action available. He waves his flaming axe, trying to keep the wolves at bay, but will swing if one gets too close. [OOC: Hit AC 20 for 9 hp damage, plus an extra 4 hp fire damage.]

Blood Bath (DM Stephen)  d100=36 d6=6
Tuesday April 22nd, 2003 1:33:24 AM

Jurgen lashes out with his punctured pack by throwing it into the swarm of wolves. Many catch the pack before it ever hit the ground. Close to 8 to 10 wolves rip and tear into the pack. The pack is reduced to shreds in the matter of seconds. The act only seems to whip them into a greater frenzy. Vus goes to blinking around but no one can keep track of him. (btw, ordinary torch or fire light doesnt bother you at all. You are only sensitive with daylight when wearing the belt.)

Sly and the party are already at the tree that Savin disappeared into. Sly tests the tree where Savin had entered. The tree feels solid, not like trees that enter the elven trails. However Sly prepares for attack. The blue flame of the everburning torch helps greatly to see the wolves. The blue light startles the wolves but they quickly regroup. Luke is in full gnarly growling mode.

Peerimus mutters words of power and a ball of flame erupts in his hand. He can now see better. He looks out across the forest to see a sea of hungry eyes staring back at him. Yorrick is roaring even louder now. The front wolves show a little reluctance in facing off the large bear.

Savin sense he is leaving the tree. He is up high on a branch on a tree 50 to 60 feet away from the party. He can still see through his eyes but its like he feels trapped in a room looking out a window. Savin also can hear Sayra's thoughts but its a language he is not familiar with.

Savin can see his friends in the distance swinging torches somewhat helplessly at countless wolves ... so many wolves. Suddenly Sayra says, "Forgive me Mittiri, but this must be done to save my friends and the forest." With that being said she utters strange words that seems to echo within his mind. His body tingles as some strange energy wells up and is released from his hand.

Sayra screams out at the party. "STAY WHERE YOU ARE AND FIGHT ... ITS YOUR ONLY CHANCE. THE FOREST NOW FIGHTS WITH US.

Suddenly an explosion of shrieks, yelps and shrills assaults ALL your ears. Its the outcry of dead and dying wolves from all around you. Dozens and dozens and countless dozens are being riped apart!! The strong scent of blood fills the air. You all hear the sound of flesh being riped and cleaved from bone. Those with darkvision can see the carnage 40 feet away. Its absolutely disgusting. From what you can tell, the plants have become sharp and steely. The plants grab and entangle wolves cutting into their flesh. A sea of wolves are being reduced to a sea of blood and gore. You kinda wish you didnt have darkvision.

Above the shrills Sayra yells, "DON'T LEAVE AREA SURROUNDING THE TREEE!!!" She starts to cry and covers her eyes to keep from viewing the horror she caused.

Within the ring of death are still at least 60 to 70 wolves. Sir Thomas slashes out at a wolf and hits. The wolf recoils in pain. Pryte stamps another wolf with both hooves pounding it flat into the ground. (you can use multiple attacks)

Ilsidur slashes at a wolf with his flaming blade. He hits killing the wolf. The wolf catches fire and the horrible smell of burning fur fills your nostrils.

(Remember you are all still blessed with a +2 to attack, checks and saves. Next post is wolves turn.)

The wolves attack:

Six wolves leap forward at Sir Thomas and his steed. Two latch on doing a total of 6 points of damage. They attempt to pull you off you horse by your leg. (Roll a strength check or Ride checks [whichever is higher] DC 10 to stay on your horse.)

Six wolves swarm around Trace. One wolf hits with a bite doing 2 points of damage. He latches on and tries to trip you. (Make a strength or dex check at DC 8 to keep from falling down.)

Three wolves become brave enough to attack the dwarf with the flaming weapon. All three miss.

Four wolves leap forward and attack Peerimus. All four miss. Alas poor Yorrick, I knew him ... Twelve wolves leap out at the aggitated bear. Five wolves hit with their bite doing 26 points of damage. They dont have a chance at triping the bear.

Eleven wolves strike out at Sly. They ignor Luke amazingly. Four hit Sly doing 17 points of damage. They latch on and pull at your arm and leg. (Make a Strength or Dex check of DC 15 to keep from falling down. Luke bites down on one of the wolves with an attack of opportunity. He shakes the wolf like a limp rag doll.

Jurgen, who is back up against the tree seems to have avoided any of the attacks. He remains untouched.

Savin suddenly feels the crying Sayra release control of his body. You can feel the pain she feels for all the death she has caused. You know that it took every bit of her will power to force herself to do what she just did. You find yourself 20-ft up a tree. Your party is 50-ft away. Wolves are continuing to die with tortured screams of pain below you. The trees are thick and close together. You know its not safe to move across the ground. The places not occupied with dying wolves are filled with living ones!!

Knowing that this just got REAL bad, Thomas sets himself to performing the task that must be done if he and his friends are to walk away from this onslaught. Feeling much like the riders of the "Light Brigade", Thomas clings to that thought as he slashes and stabs at the wolves nearest him. He starts with those trying to pull him off Pryte ... they should be easy enough to hit since they aren't moving.

Similarly, Pryte lashes out at the wolves with crushing hoof strikes that are likely to crush skulls if they land. Sensing the need to tighten the formation further, Thomas and Pryte mentally agree to move closer to the group by backing up as they attack. (move 5' if possible)

Ilsidur attacks the wolves that are trying to bite him. [OOC: Full attack, two attacks, hit AC27 for 16 total damage (13+3 fire), hit AC18 for 16 total damage (13+3 fire). If the first attack drops one of the wolves, he shifts 5' towards the bear, and attacks another wolf.]

He calls out to the druid, "Peerimus, how can we help your bear? He is going to be swamped unless we can get him away from all those wolves! Can you get him to work his way towards us?"

Jurgen [Mage Armor] [Koboldian] [AC: 26] [HP: 30] Vus [AC: 20] [HP: 22] [Blink]  7d6(6+5+4+4+5+5+4)=33 7d6(5+6+3+6+4+2+3)+6=35 d20+6=14 d6=6

Jurgen nearly falls on his own feet trying to dodge wolves that are biting at his allies. Luckily, every time he moved to one side, a wolf bit at where he had previously been. The strange combanation of dodging and tripping must have been quite a sight, but Jurgen didn't have time to consider that thought. Yorrick was in trouble.

"Vus! Get to the horse! Keep the wolves away from it..." He points towards Sir Thomas and at the same time ducks out of a pair of sharp teeth. Before the next set comes at him and stops him from helping the bear, the words of a spell flicker from his tongue. It was untested and brand new to him, but he knew what it was supposed to do. Massive electricity would shock anyone within range. He thinks for a second and positions it directly in front of Yorrick, to get as many wolves as possible.

[Casting: Lightning Bolt - 7d6 Damage: 33 Reflex Save For Half: DC 18] Second 7d6 was an accident]

Lightning arcs from his fingers and overtop of the massive bear's head, towards his multiple attackers. Jurgen shakes with power and nearly falls to the ground. A brief breather and he's up again.

Meanwhile, Vus rushes over to the paladin's side and bares his own set of impressive teeth. Growls and barks abound, he tries to speak to these fellow canines.

[Speak with Animals of it's Type: Canines]"Not food! NOT FOOD!"

If the wolves continue assaulting, as they are assumed to, Vus springs into action against the nearest wolf.

[Vus Bite Attack - Success if AC 14 or lower - 6 Damage]

Trace kills two wolves with both his strikes. (since trace didnt roll a Str check I will do it for him. Strength check 11) Trace is barely able to keep from falling.

Sly completely slices a wolf in two. He also kills a second wolf. Luke kills another wolf. However Sly feels horror grip him as he is tripped to the ground.

Peerimus sets a wolf on fire and it runs off yelping until it slumps over 15-ft away. Wolves jump all over themselves to avoid the flame. Yorrick slaps wolves left and right. They fly off the bear with big gaping wounds. The bear crushes a third wolf in his jaws.

Shiraz unleashes his fury upon the mangy dogs!! With his longer reach he makes an attack of opportunity against a charging wolf. He misses. However he connects with two other swings and kills two wolves.

Both Sir Thomas and his steed take out 2 wolves each. Sir Thomas is able to stay mounted. (Did you know you get a +1 bonus to melee attacks when attack from above?)

Ilsidur kills two more wolves. Their bodies go up in flames.

Savin doesnt have a clear shot at the wolves near the bear. (plus you would take penalties for shooting at wolves who are locked in combat with your friends.) However there are many many many other clear shots he could take without penalty!!

Jurgen lets off a dazzling lightning bolt. It sends 25 wolves to their agonizing deaths. The smell of burnt wolf hair fills the air. The blink dog misses.

Wolves continue to yelp and scream in pain as they die amongst the deadly vegetation.

(Wolves turn)

Seven wolves attack Trace. Three hit and do 12 points of damage. (strength or dex check DC 18 to keep from triping.)

Sly is in trouble. Eight wolves remain on him and he is flat on his back. Three hit for 8 points of damage (lucky). (Strength check DC 12 to get up. You may attack if you get up. If you remain prone, you can still attack but suffer a -4 to your melee attacks.)

Luke draws three wolves. Two wolves hit for 5 points of damage. He doesnt get tripped.

Five wolves attack Peerimus. All five miss. Eight wolves remain on Yorrick. Four hit and one is a critical bite. All do 17 points of damage.

The remaining two wolves attack Sir Thomas and both miss. Three wolves attack Sir Thomas' mount. One hits for 6 points of damage. The wolf has no chance of tripping the horse.

Ilsidur has four more wolves join the fight increasing the total on him at five. One hits for 2 points of damage. (Strength or Dex check of DC 19 to avoid being tripped.)

Three wolves attack Shiraz. One hits for 3 points of damage. The wolf has no chance of matching Shiraz's strength.

The wolves stay far away from the lightning fingers (Jurgen).

Thomas strikes at the wolves with authority provided directly from Domi. He makes two well-placed attacks that kill one, if not two, of the wolves assaulting his friend. If any of them die, Thomas makes another attack on any remaining in his vicinity.

Pryte dances around trying to make the wolves put on a defensive air while Thomas cuts them down. If any wolves remain after Thomas' onslaught, Pryte will lash out with his crushing hoof attacks. The two will then evaluate the situation and move 5' toward Yorrick the bear.

Ilsidur feels an anger within himself he has never felt before. A rage builds with every attack. (You feel the shield giving you the ability to Rage once a day. Like a 1st level barbarian.)

Jurgen grabs the metal ferret. Rubs it. It begins to glow very brightly. Startled by the bright light all the wolves back up. You all hear a rumbling sound in the distance.

Thomas sees his friends moving toward the tree, and hearing their calls to band together he knows that making his way to them is the smartest move. Pryte, knowing Thomas thoughts and being quite intelligent and aware himself, moves in the direction of the tree. Thomas sits on the back of his friend and attacks any wolf that he possibly can.

Hopefully, Thomas and Pryte stand with their backs toward the tree facing the waves of wolves and darkness.

Thomas tries, needlessly by the looks of it, to inspire his friends. "Bound by a cause, even armies cannot tear us apart. May Domi's will shine in this land when the sun rises and we see the endlessness of what had to be done. May the sacrifice and the deed not be in vain."

The Winds of the Ferret (DM Stephen)  d100=90 d6=3 very good roll
Wednesday April 30th, 2003 1:27:35 AM

(excuse the quick little post. The winds are blowing another thunderstorm through area.)

Everyone backs away from the wolves and puts their backs against the tree. The wolves are somewhat shaken from the bright light. As Jurgen tosses the small figurine into the pack of wolves, the light seems to retract back into the ferret. Jurgen's body is also magically sucked into the tiny ferret as well. Jurgen looks on in horror as he can see out of the ferrets eyes. Jurgen can not move. The rumbling comes closer.

With the onslaught of a fierce wind, female ferrets start to fall out of the sky, climb out of the trees and prance across the ground. Thousands and thousands. You all see a feral glint in their eyes. They swarm around the metal ferret and hiss and snap at the wolves. The wolves feeling overwhelmed by the ferrets start to back away even further. The whole scene seems to disturb the wolves somewhat.

All of you feel the ferrets crawling over you to get to the metal ferret where Jurgen now seems to be the center of attention.

Peerimus notices the look on the others faces as Jurgen vanishes into the statue, obviously that was not suppose to happen, but what could be done? He could calm some, but not nerely enough to be noticed. Perhaps it would be a good idea to get a better view of what is going on and with that in mind Peerimus morphs into a bat and will lie on Yorricks head and look around (120' Blindsight spot DC 22)

Jurgen [Ferret-Like]
Wednesday April 30th, 2003 8:06:29 PM

Jurgen, although previously calm, is now hysterical. He was wonderful and safe a few seconds ago, destroying wolf after wolf. Or all at once, it didn't matter. He was strong and powerful. WAS... Now he was a ferret.

"Sly... If I ever get out of here, you are... OH GOD! THEY'RE COMING AFTER ME? AHHHHH! AHHHH!" He screams, either to himself or verbally, if such a thing is possible in this form.

Savin

Ilsidur

You all look on and notice the metal ferrets mischievious, almost devilish, grin across his face. The warning emblazoned on the ferrets back seems to shout back at you all with renewed seriousness. The other ferrets have arrived and more just seem to pour in. They swirl around the metal ferret. Its like a torrent sea of ferrets and Jurgen is a sinking ship. The sounds of polecat love sing into all your ears.

The wolves are definitely confused from the sudden influx of ferrets. They highstep and hop about as countless critters run by their feet. The scene is pure chaos. Some wolves decide to run and become injured by the magically spiked growth that circles the area. They climb over the bodies of the previous dead and escape.

Peerimus, in bat form, sees everything within his range. You see all the bodies of wolves ensnared and impaled on the magically enhanced local vegetation. The loss of life is great. The ferrets seem to avoid the pitfalls or unaffected by it.

Trace lets loose an Entangle spell in the area of the wolves that backed away. Grass, roots and other plants grab at the wolves. Some are able fight off the trap but are slowed by their struggle. Others become tied down and held fast to the earth.

You all realize that the only way out of this chaos is to fly ... or swing from the trees. Everyone is backed up against the tree and try and figure out there next move.

Suddenly another player enters the fray. A tall majestic stag with a full rack of antlers. It stands in the distance (some 60-ft away) and surveys the scene. What makes this animal different from the rest of the beasts is that it glows an erie green light and its body consists of some strange energy. Its legs fade to nothing before they touch the ground, so it looks to be floating in the air.

Peerimus can see the stag with his normal vision but his blindsight sees nothing of it.

The stag's green light pulses and bursts a flair into the area. All magical enchantments cease to function. Spells drop, Peerimus shapes back into his normal form. The flames of Ilsidur's weapon go out. The everburning torches expire only to flicker back on after a few seconds. The wolves calm and take the opportunity to run off.

Jurgen is cast from the ferret and is thrust back toward the party. A dozen or so ferrets continue to climb on Jurgen and lick at his hands, neck, and face.

The vast majority of the ferrets continue their love fest with the metal ferret and they too exit stage left.

The party and the stag is all that remains. As the ferrets and the wolves leave, silence returns to the scene. Bodies of wolves litter the area. The stag just stands there and looks at all the destruction.

Trace stands there for a moment with his mouth open and unsure of how to respond to the pure chaos that had happened and so dramaticly ceased. "I dont care how many times I see that curse of the ferrit, I will never get used to it. At least now we know the next time we rub the little rodent we need a dispell handy to back us out of the ordeal when ready."

(wilderness lore 18 Nature knowlage 7) Trace sees the stag in the distance and sheaths his sword to try and show no hostil intentions to it. Trace raises his hand and calls Radiant back down who seems a bit ratteled and still skiddish over the dramatic scene they all wittnessed. Trace spurs Shadow and moves up next to Sir Thomas to speak under his breath, "Hostil or friendly, I ask only casue I am so jacked up at the moment from all this around us my instinct is to just drop any and everything that stands in front of us. I dont know how to take it's dispell, it did make the wolves run but it only canceled our spells unless there was one controlling the wolves. In my mind that is an offensive move."

Trace pulls his bow out but no arrow. Only readies for a reaction if needed. He spurs his horse again and moves over in front of Jurgen and Sly to protect the finger wigglers.

Thomas makes no move toward the stag, but neither does he make a move to indicate peace. "It seems to me that he knew we were in trouble, or he would not have sent the wolves away. Friday May 2nd, 2003 2:15:56 AM

Savin can feel that Sayra has buried herself deep within his consciousness. The death of so many by her hands has hurt her in a very profound way. She was a fey... a dryad to be exact. A creature of nature and a devout druid at heart. Savin understands this now. To use the life energy of nature for destruction of so many desperate souls cuts her to the quick. The full weight of her sacrifice is now obvious to you.

None of you have any idea what kind of creature this is in front of you. However Sly recalls stories told to him as a child about spirits that roam the forests, but those were childish pixie tales.

The stag surveys the area for a few short moments. It doesnt seem to respond to any of your words or gestures. It turns and begins to walk away. However, after a few steps the stag disappears.

Its late, your all very tired of the journey and the combat. Shiraz notices a path to the east of the tree. It was very hard to spot. It could lead to a better place to rest for the night. Anywhere away from the stench of all the blood in this area.

Oh ... why is Jurgen continuing to allow the dozen or so ferrets lick and rub up against him!? The sounds of pole cats purring is all you hear.

Jurgen, at the chance of being freed from his captivity as a ferret, starts screaming and kicking away at those around him. He makes sure to be as violent and vengeful as possible. They were a menace. They were a pain and they would not be tolerated. Why in the name of of the Wold, all this pure, good and right had this happened to him.

Faintly, out of the corner of his eye, Jurgen spots the stag and it's magical glow. Then he sees it disappear, just as quickly. Had he been calm, he would have had two questions in his mind. The first would be "Who is that?", The second would be "What is that?". Instead, only anger and fury was in him. Out of the back of his brain was the constant search for knowledge. For facts and pleasures... That delayed him long enough to consider their "savior".

[Arcane Knowledge Check - Success if DC 27 or Lower]

[Spellcraft Check - Success if DC 21 or Lower]

[Intelligence Check - Success if DC 17 or lower]

But then he let himself explode with violence. His wrath would be pointless. It would do nothing. It would solve nothing. Yet he stilled grabbed his dagger and aimed for the spot where the mysterious stag had stood. A creeping few seconds was allowed, while he pulled it behind his head. And then he let it fly. Instead of towards the stag, it quickly changed directions to the ground in front of him.

[Ranged Attack - Success if AC 17 or lower - Target: The ground...]

Jurgen couldn't tell if it was a wolf or a patch of unmarked ground, lucky if he could tell the difference in this light. He may have been like a Kobold, but he couldn't see in their manner. Maybe with time... The belt had hidden properties. Things he didn't know. Things he could't grasp yet... But he would...

"Bugger off Sly! Bugger you. Bugger your damn statue too!" Walking towards it, he kicks it in Sly's general direction. Serious animosity issues towards the elven warrior mage. Sly was lucky to still be in one piece, at the mood Jurgen was in. He could have finished off the rest of the ferrets with ease. Lightning was a powerful tool. It was the fury that nature put forth against those who displeased it. Druids knew nature's wrath. But obviously, Sly did not. Otherwise he would have let Jurgen continue on and finish the battle. But no, instead, he told the great and powerful Magus, Jurgen Sturmjager, to rub a ferret. His amazing strength was a supernatural power that flowed through his veins like blood, but stronger times ten thousand.

"DO NOT MEDDLE IN THE AFFAIRS OF MAGES FOR THEY ARE SUBTLE AND QUICK TO ANGER! THE POWER OF THOUGHT CAN EASILY BECOME THE POWER OF MAGIC AND THAT IS DEADLY TO ALL WHO... who..." Jurgen inhales deeply, realizing his last few words became shouts and those shouts became threats... Yes. He may be angry, but furiousness wasn't an ordinary trait in him. Then again these were extraordinary times. And thus, there would be nothing normal.

As he walks by it, Jurgen grabs his dagger and jams it into it's small sheath. "It is time to be weary... Evil is near. Although whether it be evil or merely my own mind stalking another part of itself, I know not." He looks towards Shiraz's path and begins to walk along it. He was weary.

[My apoligies everyone. This post is a collection of all my thoughts right now and some of it is a bit crazy. I can't help myself. I'm giddy and exausted. I write the final for the Provincal Math Competition tomorrow... Yay!]

As Jurgen start to walk pass Sly on his way to the path. Sly put an hand on his arm and stop him for a moment, "Your Right! Little Brother, it is time to be weary and I agree with you , you'll one day be a great Mage. Once you learn on how to use your power properly. You didn't see me use my wizard power here, that's because I had more respect for this forest. You see by using your Lighting on the wolves, you also damaged alot of the Forest, you could have started a fire.
That's why the Goldem Stag the Sprit that roams this forest visited us, and you Little Brother threw a dagger in his direction, I alway though that HE was a childish pixie Tale, but HE does exist and I have a feeling as we pust the evil back, we'll see more of that beautiful Golden Stag.
As for the statue (Sly goes and pichs up the Golden statue and puts it back into the Ivory Chest, locks it and puts it back into his pocket)It was the only way to rid of the wolves safely,it worked. Quickly moving to get in front of Jurgen; Shiraz stops, turns, and blocks the path, stopping the magus, as he called himself,"Boy, I had thought you wiser after the battle with the dragon. Your gift of life for the rest of us was honorable and yet now you dishonor all we have done together by your irreverent tone and disrespect for your elders. Did Josephine teach you that?" Shiraz's face twitches, the need to use such an unfair weapon against a friend weighs heavily against him,"Rage undirected is much like a river, over time it wears against the very earth moving it and shapint it, but rage directed is like water from behind the floodgates of a dam, it rushes out, powerful able to move earth, stone the very wold itself, you are like a river raging against everything, be selective young magus, you cannot stand alone anymore than the rest of us." Shiraz turns and looks behind him then back behind Jurgen, "The others come, heed my words friend and calm yourself." Shiraz turns and strides down the path a bit. Leaning against a tree as Sir Thomas and the others walk by that Shiraz is deep in thought, his brow furrowed and his hands dance against the hilts of his swords. After a nice dinner, cooked by Savin (50exp), everyone has no trouble falling asleep. Sly and Savin are early to rise to a cool morning. The winds bring the stench of the dead from your last campsite. You all can hear vermin being drawn to the area. Mesquitos, flies buzz all around. It is not pleasant.

The sun peaks over the tree line. Savin can feel a stiring within. You dont feel any draw to put the mask on, but you sense she has planted some of her knowledge into you. Everytime you merge you feel a little bit of her is left behind. Oddly, Savin, you feel the trail, which is easier to see in the daylight, is the way to go. Like in a dream, you have traveled it many times. In fact, the tree at the bend several 100 feet down the trail also seems familar to you.

Everyone, except Savin and Sly, are still sleeping. Must have been a rough night. The ferrets continue to purr.

Savin feels joy at Sayra's knowledge in his head. Even if she is to pass on, he realizes some of her will always be in him. This way she will never truely die. He stretches and performs some quick punches and kicks to loosen up his muscles.

To Shiraz he replies, "No thanks are necessary. I take real pleasure in the art of cooking. It is nice to perform some simple tasks and do them well. To bring pleasue to others. It reminds me that I am human and keeps me humble.

Now on to busines... "Wake up friends! The sun is shinning and I think I know the way. Let us start this day early for I feel that darkness will descend all to soon. Let's use the light while we have it."

Savin heads over to Ilsidur and hold out his hand to help him up. "Come on priest. There is evil to defeat and you lay around drooling in your bedroll. Get up!" Savin tempers his teasing with a smile.

When everyone is up and ready, Savin will lead his the way down the path. "Come our way is down this path."

Jurgen [Koboldian] Vus [Blink]
Tuesday May 6th, 2003 10:00:38 PM

Jurgen rises from his hastily made bed and packs up slowly. Instead of taking his time and getting comfortable, he just threw himself into his sleeping bag and passed out on the grass. He was tired. He was exausted. Among other things, he needed to cool off. He was too hot! They hadn't made him mad. Day or night, these were his friends. They would stand by him. A magically cursed ferret could not stand between that. Only he could.

Moving the ferrets away from him, Jurgen pockets the cursed figurine. He gathers up the berries and eats them for his breakfast, as well as Savin's well-prepared ration meal.

He does his best to avoid speaking with Shiraz, but finally he must. It was building up inside of him and he had a tear dwelling his eye. "Shiraz... I respect you as a friend and as an ally. But do not mention Josephine to me. Regardless of what I say or do, she is mine. You never met her. You never knew her. I would think twice before saying something about her. She is mine." He rubs his eyes heavily, as if trying to get something out of it but instead just trying to appear stronger. A thought surfaced on his brain. Anger is a signal, and one worth listening to. Ahh. Yes. Power. Power was seeping through him. His magic was always run through his emotions. Through his feelings. And so, it made sense he should have been angry. Well. Maybe not angry, but very emotional. "And I am sorry friend. Friends, I should say. I have hurt all of you. It seems that I am having trouble controlling myself. It's funny. All the great mages of the world never seem to have had trouble controlling themselves. Maybe I'm too young. Too brash. But it is my gift, and I suppose my burden. One day, there will be a choice. Power or self. Who knows..."

He raises his eyebrows a couple of times, to assure that he is doing alright. "Let us walk the path we have chosen. We are men of action. Sitting. Doing nothing does not become us."

The not so pleasantness of the morning just became a little more unpleasant. With the almost child-like wicked laughter ringing in Trace's ears, he can feel a tingling in his gloves. What he thought to be Gauntlets of Ogre Power turn out to be something other than what they previously claimed to be. Something unpleasant. After the splash of blood from combat the night before, the gloves true nature become manifested. They once had the aura of being Gauntlets of Ogre Power. Any attempt at magical identification would reinforce the lie. Now, all of a sudden, Traces feels to have lost some of the spring in his step (-2 Dex). He no longer has greater strength when wearing them (no strength bonus). His hands fumble about as he tries to grasp things. He seems to have butter fingers (50% chance to drop what you're holding each round. One check for each hand). And worse ... they wont come off!!!! (Gauntlets of Fumbling, full description in the Dungeon Master Guide)

Fortunately, as Shiraz stretches off his sleep, he notices something snagged on a branch, high in the tree. Its a worn and tattered backpack. How did that get there. Looking inside, he finds some potions ... and each one is clearly marked: Protection from Elements (fire), Levitate, Hiding and Nondetection. (I rolled a 100 on the DM board and won the party some nice prizes, enjoy. :)

Peerimus awakens and finds a pleasant place in the grass and streches himself out and stares up at the clouds. When food is announced Peerimus and Yorrick are both quick to respond and eagerly sit.
"Savin, this is excellent. You are a wonder at the fire."
After breakfast, Peerimus helps clean up and then running his hands through the fire ash, he coats his arms and neck with it, he also takes a two finger wide swathe of mud and slides it across each cheek. The young man then sits crossed legged on a patch of bare dirt, leans close to the earth and starts to mutter to it.

Hearing Trace's cry of alarm, Peerimus moves quickly to see what is going on. Seeing things well in hand he moves back to his meditations.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Wednesday May 7th, 2003 12:48:59 PM

Sly feed Luke, then he washes his mug and pack up so he can follow the trail. Untill Trace calls for help! Sly ask "What's the mater Big Brother!" running over to the elf.

Sly has never seen Trace so weak and helpless. Sly takes a good look at the Gauntlet, pulling on the glove (no go), he takes his dagger out of his boot and cut at the thing (nothing gives). "OH! NO!" Sly look into Traces eyes and tell him, "I'm sorry Trace, I cannot remove it, I don't have a spell that will take off the cursed."
Sly calls "Ilsidur! Jurgen! Do either of you have a Remove Curse Spell or a Wish Spell? I don't have one."

Savin
Wednesday May 7th, 2003 5:08:33 PM

Savin turns and walks over to Trace. He will try to pull the gauntlets off and when he doesn't succeed, he will say, "Seems like a lot of the magic we got from Tulmult has some bad side effects. The wedding dress was interesting but a little embarrassing. The ferret is more than embarrassing. Those rose tinted glasses. I guess they were ok if it was 2 am and you were in a bar. The death mask is obviously a powerful item but hasn't been really beneficial and has put certain obligations on all of us. The kobold belt has has some great abilities but it has its drawbacks and now these guantlets seem to be cursed. It makes me doubt all of the items we received." He pulls out the dust he took as part of his treasure but never had identified. "This will probably open the earth up and swallow us all." He will put the pouch away and what and see if anyone can help Trace.

If no one can, he will head down the trail saying, "Trace, I know this is unforunate timing for you but we must finish this evil off before we can get your curse lifted. I will do my best to try to help you and keep your safe."

(Im posting for Greg while he is away. I hope I do his character justice.)

Ilsidur continues to kneel and pray to the gods of Wold. As he concentrates in his morning routine he cant help but hear the commotion created by the problems that has come to light. He doesnt like what he hears and he prays for the strength and the insight to deal with their trials. However he grows tired of the complaining and outbursts. With the utterance of "Amen" does he raise an eyebrow and react to the situation.

"Please ... everyone, do not forget who we are and what we are doing. It really rubs my hide raw to hear you all complaining over a few hardships. We are the Children of Chaos ... slayer of Red Dragons, Protectors of the Land, the last hopes of tens of thousands. It gives me great pride to know that WE extinguished the flames of a great evil and now we quest to right the wrongs commited by that infernal dragon, Tumult. Our quest is HOLY, our quest is just. We continue the work of those great clerics who hoped to free this poor soul from this living world so she might find her rest. May their lives and efforts not be in vain!! No sir!"

Looking at Savin, "You, least of all, would I ever expect to be so concerned over worldly goods. So, many of the items didnt live up to our expectations. The wedding dress will unite countless couples in holy matrimony, bring happiness to thousands. The googles could teach young ones the side effects of gluttony from adult beverages." Ilsidur turns to face Jurgen, "The ferret has certainly been interesting, and that belt ... you have never sounded better," the dwarven cleric says with a bit of a chuckle! "This shield protects me well and allows me the fury of barbarians. Ive have never heard of such an item. Not to mention the countless potions, scrolls and other trinkets we havent even figured out yet."

The cleric turns to Trace. "The great hunter and tracker finds himself in a nasty quagmire. Do not lose faith in yourself, ... your friends .." Ilsidur firmly grabs both of Trace's hands, "or your god!" The dwarf begins to chant holy words of power. Trace can feel his body filled with a surge of positive energy. With the completion of his spell Ilsidur forcefully pulls the gloves off of Trace's hands (Remove Curse spell). "Never lose your faith, my friend!" With those words he tosses the gloves to the ground.

Turning to Shiraz, "Look, we continue to be blessed. Look upon the potions Shiraz has found. And thank the gods that ... that stag came when it did. Without its intervention last night we may not be here now. It is quite evident that we are not alone. We may be being watched as we camp here. So stand up straight and show them we are strong, we are proud and we are a force to be reckoned with. We are the Children of Chaos!!" Ilsidur steps away from his party and faces the forest. He shouts into the air, "GOOD GOD ... WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF CHAOS .. AND MAY ALL EVIL FEAR OUR WRATH!!"

The voice of the dwarf echos across the forest. After a short pause, he returns to the camp and starts to gather his things. "Hmmm, what a brisk morning ... are we ready to go? Any of you still hurt from last night?"

Savin
Thursday May 8th, 2003 9:07:48 AM

"Hey Ilsidur, I don't really care about the magic. You are right. The training of the body and developing your inner power will more than make up for any temporary crutch that magic might bring." Savin quickly looks at Jurgen, gulps and hastly adds, "No offense intended. I am just bringing the point up that we need to be careful with these items. Who knows..Tulmult might have put a curse on all of them so whoever defeated him in fair and honest combat would only find grief."

Savin still heads down the path, heading for the tree he recognized.

Trace kicks dirt on the gloves and then spits on them. Trace tilts his head somewhat and speaks to no one in particular, "So much for killing a dragon. I guess my search for treasure goes on. I am ready!" Trace grabs the reins for Shadow and swings his leg over the horse in one swift motion and then spurs his horse in the direction that he is told the new path. Looking side to side for any occupants of the forest and stoping every so often to check the ground for new travelers Trace makes his way in front of the group 75 yards or so. Sly Foxx and Luke
Thursday May 8th, 2003 11:36:04 AM

Sly watches his friend drop the cured glove and kicks at it. The he watches Trace ride away, "Oh! how I wish I could have help him." sly tells himself. Then turns to Jurgen, "You know Little Brother, you change a lot since you put on that belt we found!"

Sly Puts the Glove in to the magic chest, lock it and puts it away in his pocket. "Come along Luke, We march into the horizon." Off man and dog follows the others. (with back pack on.)

Peerimus and Yorrick  d20=4 d20=20 d20=6
Thursday May 8th, 2003 1:55:00 PM

Peerimus finishes his morning meditations and does not cast any this morning, as he feels they may be needed in the overnight hours.
(OOC changed some spells)

To Ilsidur, "My thanks for your concern, but the rest seems to have sufficed for Yorrick and I was uninjured by the wolves."

Peerimus will move up to catch Trace to lend his knowledge of the wood and Yorricks nose.
(Knowledge Nature 4+10=14, Wilderness Lore 20+14=34 and Spot 6+4=10)
After moving along side Trace, "Ilsidur is right you know. It is a brisk morning."

Jurgen [Koboldian] and Vus [Blink]
Thursday May 8th, 2003 8:44:36 PM

"I have changed a lot since life, not my first, but my second. How many ever are given a second chance. That is why my life is even more precious now then it was before because of what thousands of others cannot have. If I just let that go, for nothing, I am disgracing all who live, have lived and will die." After that, Jurgen says no more. He lets his silence become become him.

At Savin's comments that magic is a crutch, he scoffs slightly. A crutch?!? Magic was being. Using ones weak body as a weapon was a crutch if anything. You can break a body easily... To break a mind death must occur. But as things were, he'd have to deal with it the way it is happened. Alone, at least right now, he was weak.

When Trace drops his gloves to the ground, Jurgen lets him go on and then snatches them up. He quickly stuffs them into his bag of holding. They may not have been useful right now, but later they definately would be. Imagine giving them to some enemy who had captured them... Or something along those lines, anyway. He follows behind Savin and Trace, trying to keep as little distance between them without running.

I'm sorry for missing my recent posts. It's unfair to the group and I shouldn't be doing it. Right now is just a bit hectic for me, helping with my local school play and all. I'll try to keep up!
