Ingrge (Displaced)
Tuesday May 20th, 2003 10:13:31 PM

(OOC Greg, Ingrge only turned his back to Tremaine and then finished his casting verbal or otherwise Being displace it is going to be much harder for him to follow the spell casting and from behind me even more unlikely, even if he has suddenly become a wizard. Ingrge also turned his back on him to show that he was not overtly offering to attack him. If through all that a non wizard can tell what spell is being cast on the otherside of a displaced spellcaster then so be it) Ingrge cast the spell and issued its order.)

Ingrge continues to direct his servant with his back turned like Tremaine requested.

Who deceives who...(DM Greg)  d20+6=10 d20+8=20
Tuesday May 20th, 2003 11:52:39 PM

The Tine leader watches the odd behaviour by the wizard, as Ingrge approaches the shapeshifter, turns around and casts a spell, and then turns back to face him. "You!" Tremaine shouts, "Call off your servant! Do you take me for a fool?" [OOC: Successful spot roll to notice what the wizard is doing, and successful spellcraft roll to recognize the spell.] He calls out to one of the blue-skinned creatures, in a gutteral language. As the unseen servant removes the pail from the tap, and starts to carry it back across the clearing, the blue creature steps up beside it and easily wrests the pail from the spirit's grasp, returning and handing the pail to the shapeshifter. [OOC: Servant speed 15', Strength 2; Blue creature speed 30', Strength 19]

Tremaine smiles, but the smile doesn't reach his eyes. He nods his head at Ingrge, and says, "Thank you for your help in retrieving the pail. Now, to finish the ceremony. You all keep your eyes open for those little fey meddlers." He puts the bucket on the ground, clamping it between his feet. Then he pulls a large vial out of his belt pouch, and holds it up to the morning light. The liquid in the vial is a thick dark red, and the air immediately around the vial seems to shimmer, as if the vial is heating the surrounding air. The shifter holds the vial up higher, and speaks a number of phrases in a deep, reverant voice. The air around the vial shimmers even more violently, and the vial appears to be engulfed in bright red flames, although Tremaine appears to be unaffected by the fire.

As the shifter appears to finish his casting, a small high-pitched voice whispers beside Olana's ear, "By the Great Tree, that is red dragon's blood, and he has charged it with his spell! I think I know what he plans. You cannot allow him to empty that vial into the sap!"

Olana  d20+11=16 d20+11=28
Wednesday May 21st, 2003 1:43:42 AM

The elf has no idea where the voice came from, but she suspects it is one of the fey.

"Red dragon's blood!" she yells and takes a flying leap toward Tremaine - in a desperate attempt to grapple with the druid and stop him from completing the process.

(Grapple check DC 16 - re-rolled using hero point DC 28)

Wednesday May 21st, 2003 2:13:30 PM

Seeing Olana make her move, Bertram summons strength into his gnarled limbs as he hefts his axe, then without further warning swings the blade with all of his might burying the axe in the chest of the blue creature nearest him. He roars out a battle cry as he feels the meaty chunk of the axe sinking home. He howls gleefully as the blue creature lets out a horrific scream.

((OOC Strength Domain(+7 for one round) 30 points of damage to the blue creature. 2d6 is the added bonus from the Lawful axe versus chaotic creatures))

Seeing the moment arise, Lian tumbles across the glade to end up on the side of Tremaine opposite the rest of the party, and lashes out with practiced ease, attempting to stun the druid. (OOC: Made a Tumble check DC 25 to avoid attacks of opportunity on the way around Tremaine. Attacked with a stunning attack, hitting AC 22 for 3 hps damage. If this hits, Tremaine must succeed a Fortitude save DC 18 or be stunned.)

Stopping Tremaine (DM Greg) (round 1 party actions)  d20+6=20
Thursday May 22nd, 2003 11:11:25 PM

Olana leaps forward, and wraps her hands around the druid's holding the flaming vial. The flames engulf her hands as well, but she feels nothing other than a slight warming of her hands.

Bertram's axe bites deeply into the chest of one of the blue-skinned creature, and a thick green fluid flows from the wound, bringing a howl of pain from the monster.

Ingrge hits the bucket and contents with his ray of frost spell, and a thin layer of frost appears on the outside of the bucket. As for the effects on the sap, nothing is immediately apparent.

The black ray from Figment hits the shapeshifter squarely in the chest, and some of the spark seems to leave Tremaine's eyes as he shudders under the onslaught.

Lian connects with his stunning blow attack, but Tremaine fights through the stun attempt.

Milo connects with his sword, opening two huge gashes in the body of the shapeshifter.

Tremaine calls out in the guttural language, giving an order to one of the blue-skinned creatures. Then he shouts a single word, and immediately, his skin, muscles, and bone begin to enlarge and change shape. Olana feels herself lifted off her feet, as she continues to cling to the vial and the shifter's hands surrounding it. After a few seconds, the shifting ends, and Olana is holding onto a huge grey creature, some 9' tall, with long arms and short stubby legs. The face is most horrible, with six small yellow eyes over a huge powerful mouth, filled with sharp black teeth.

The blue-skinned creature fighting Bertram roars and swings back with the large knifelike ridges on the backs of its hands. [OOC:Hit 3 times for 35 hp total damage.] Then it snaps its huge jaws at the cleric, taking a large bite out of his shoulder. [OOC: Hit for 14 hp damage. Fortitude save vs DC17 is required.]

The second blue-skinned creature moves to attack Lian, but only able to swing with one of its bone hooks (since it travelled more than 5' to engage). The hook connects with the monk's arm, causing a significant slash to appear. [OOC: Hit for 9 hp damage.]

The third blue-skinned creature moves over and reaches between the huge grey beast's legs, and grabs the bucket, covering it with one massive hand. [OOC: Lian, you can take one attack of opportunity at this blue beast, since it is picking up an item.]

The massive tiger leaps to its feet, and pounces at Milo, clawing and biting. [OOC: Hit with both claws and bite, doing 45 hp total damage.]

Bertram cries out in pain as the creature lashes out against him with multiple strikes. Feeling himself slipping towards unconsciousness, Bertram falls back before the onslaught, crying out for healing from Domi. Bertram feels some of the pain recede but is still cautious and waits for the creatures next move.

K'Nara (stoneskin)
Friday May 23rd, 2003 7:34:44 AM

Enough was enough--K'Nara swapped out her sword for her short bow instead, then carefully selected from her hip quiver one of the magic golden arrows she still had in her arsenal.

The bucket of sap had always been her ultimate target, and now she was going to see if the lightning properties of the magic arrow would be effective on the Ish'gara sap.

The gods help them all if her aim was off, or if her idea to effect the sap was wrong...

(OOC: I know that K'Nara can't swap weapons AND shoot in the same round, so I will wait until the next posting period to have her fire the arrow at the bucket. However, I'd also like to point out that I did leave instructions that K'Nara's main concern would be getting/destroying the harvested sap...I had thought that tactic would have been acted upon during my absence.)

Ingrge
Friday May 23rd, 2003 5:22:39 PM

With everyone distracted Ingrge sends a quick thought at his unseen servant and tells him to go and collect the sap bucket again. Then with a quick look at Milo being mauled Casts a spell targeting his opponent. (Phantasmal Killer will DC 18, if fail then Fort DC 18 - die or 3d6 damage)

Then aiming his staff at the Tremaine creature, Ingrge sends forth a cone of scintillating colors right at his eyes (Color Spray - Will DC 15)

But she was too close. Too close try and stop now. She pulls and pulls at those hands around the vial, in an attempt to dislodge it from the creature's grip.

"Tremaine, please!!" she implores. "You were brainwashed! Don't be their puppet!"

As Bertram backs away from the creature, to create enough room to cast his spell, he passes through the threatened area around the blue beast [OOC: 10' reach], and opens himself to an attack of opportunity. The creature connects, and slashes another wound in the cleric's side, adding insult to injury. [OOC: 6 hp damage] However, Bertram backs a good 15'-20' away, and is able to cast his spell successfully. [OOC: New hp total is 28.]

K,Nara arrives in the nick of time, and readies herself for a bowshot.

Ingrege's unseen servant moves to try to take the bucket, but as in the past round, cannot wrestle it away from the huge blue beast holding the pail firmly in its grasp. The wizard targets his first spell at the huge tiger, but the cat manages to detect the spell for the illusion that it is, and the spell has no effect. Then he targets his next spell at the shapeshifter, but the strongly-willed shifter easily ignores the effect.

[OOC: Olana's effective strength with the bull's strength is 20, giving her a strength bonus of +5, not +3.] Olana continues to grapple the huge grey creature, and tries to wrestle the magically-flaming vial from his hands.

Lian swings at the shapeshifting grey creature, but his fists bounce ineffectually off of the beast's thick hide.

Milo's strikes are not so easily ignored, and the rogue connects with both swings, causing two more huge gashes to appear in the side of the beast. Tremaine falls to the ground. [OOC: Chris, from what I can gather, Milo has +3d6 normal sneak damage for being a 6th level thief, and +1d6 SUBDUAL damage for being a second level justicar. Is this correct? If not, let me know what I have missed. If so, please keep track of the regular and subdual damage separately, when Milo dishes it out, OK?]

Orson is also a late arrival to the conflict but is able to connect with a mighty blow on the tiger's side. [OOC: No flanking this turn, but can shift to be flanking for next turn.]

The huge grey creature that is now Tremaine lies on the ground, all six eyes closed, breathing heavily. [OOC: Olana needs to make a balance check, or a Dexterity check vs DC12 to stay on her feet as Tremaine collapsed under her. If she fails, she must spend a move-equivalent action next round to stand up.]

Blue-skinned beast #1 continues to chase after Bertram, but must cover 10' of ground to reach him, and so can only attack with one of its large bone hooks. The hook attack is successful, digging into the cleric's shoulder [OOC: 7 hp damage].

Blue-skinned beast #2 flails away at Lian with its four bone hooks, hitting twice [OOC: 23 hp damage.] It also snaps at the monk with a wicked bite, but barely misses the quick elf's head, and the teeth snap only on air.

Blue-skinned creature #3 moves to attack Milo, continuing to hold the pail of sap tucked under one arm. Trying to juggle the sap, and attack, obviously distracts the creature, as the one bone hook waves harmlessly away from Milo, never having come close to the halfling.

The tiger lets out an enormous roar as Orson's blade bites deeply into it. The massive striped beast turns and devotes its entire suite of attacks at Orson, clawing and biting. [OOC: Hit with both claws, for 30 hp total damage; hit with bite for another 22 hp damage.]

[OOC: Once again, let me remind you to include in your post title: your AC, current and total hit points, and any magical effects present on your characters. I suggest you use Orson's title line as an example.]

Orson returns the tiger roar with his own, trying to ignor the immense pain with feeling of rage and adreneline. His thoughts dwell on his dead wife for a brief moment, wondering if this would be the day he joins her in the afterlife...hoping he had redeemed himself, in her eyes at least. He would never beleive himself redeemed in his own eyes, gripping his blades tighter, he whirled and slashed, hoping he would have more days to try and right the wrong he could never undo.

OOC: If he can 5' step into a flanking position, add +2 to all the attack rolls, and sneak attack damage is noted at end.

K'Nara squinted at the battlefield--the creature holding the bucket just was NOT holding still since it was intent on making sure Milo got "hooked" (literally!)--and it was very hard for her to gauge her best shot...but the blue guy was trying VERY hard not to lose or spill the sap bucket, and hesitated just long enough to boof an attempt to smack the nimble halfling rogue/cleric.

K'Nara fired her arrow, holding her breath as the gold-tipped missile arced towards the (hopefully!) vulnerable Ish'gara sap...

(OOC: the arrow hits AC29; the damage done by the arrow is considered to be 20hp worth of magic lightning damage--the target is the bucket itself, so the lightning may or may not effect the holder of the bucket as well.)

Orson shifts around the tiger, flanking the striped beast with Milo. His swords flash and slash deeply into the tiger's flanks, causing great gouts of blood to pour over the creature's hide.

Bertram's critical hit does indeed strike blue-skinned beast #1, opening another gash in its chest. He notices that the first gash is already starting to close and heal itself. [Please read the rules around critical hits: you must roll again to see if it is a critical, and then you roll each damage separately. I did it for you this turn.]

Lian tumbles back 20' from blue-skinned creature #2, deftly avoiding the sharp bone hooks, and heals himself.

Ingrge decides to attack the unconscious Tremaine-beast, successfully stabbing him in the leg and drawing more blood from the Tine leader.

K'Nara targets the bucket held by the flying blue-skinned creature. The magical arrow hits, and turns into a small bolt of lightning, charring the outside of the bucket. The bolt also expends some of its energy on the flying monster, shocking the beast. However, the beast manages to keep the bucket upright, and protect the sap from spilling.

Olana picks up the vial, and notices that the magical flames are already starting to die. She stands and threatens Tremaine's life with her sword.

Figment targets a number of magic missiles into the tiger, further damaging the huge cat.

The magic number for stabilization is 7 on a d10. Try to roll it when you post; otherwise he takes another point of damage.] The beast shifts towards K'Nara, waving its huge, hook-armed hands. It shouts in its guttural language, and even though K'Nara cannot understand the words, the intent is clearly a challenge. [OOC: It needs to cover about 30' to reach K'nara at the edge of the clearing.]

Blue-skinned beast #2 ignores the retreating monk, and turns to charge at Olana. It swings once with a huge bone hook, but misses.

Blue-skinned beast #3 flies/charges at Ingrge, and swings its hook in turn. The hook connects, and creates a gash in the mage's side. [OOC: Hit for 10 hp damage.]

The tiger, clearly on its last legs, is intent on going down fighting. It attacks the figure threatening its master...Olana. Its blows easily penetrate her armour, with two claw strikes and a mighty bite all opening large wounds in the ranger. {OOC: Two claw attacks and a bite attack all hit, for 48 hp total damage.]

"Why, thank you for telling me that...now..!" K'Nara groaned, addressing the unseen pixie and biting her lip at the close call with the sap bucket. Okay--change of plans...

"Olana!!!" screamed the humanbladesinger, pulling a couple more magic arrows from her hip quiver. "Get rid of that vial! Dump the contents--keep it from being used on the sap!" K'Nara then targeted the blue-skinned monster that was trying to clobber Olana (OOC: that's B2 on the map, I do believe) with the two "regular magic" arrows (OOC: they are two of her plain old +1 flight arrows rather than the Golden arrows; first shot hits AC29 for 5hp damage; second shot hits AC22 for another 5hp damage.)

She noted to herself that--should the other beastie charge her--she'd have to recall her bladesinger training so that she could Dodge it...hopefully.

OOC: Assuming Milo drops te tiger here, it being on its 'last leg', and the lil' guy dishing out so hefty damage. If not, apply attack to the tiger, and ignore the fluff :)
------------------------------

Orson watches the tiger fall, ready for a quick breather. He notices then, though, Bertram on the ground, and the bluish creature turning its attention to K'Nara, who was supporting others with her bow. Breathing deeply, he grips his blades tight to make sure he has a good grip, then with a loud yell he races towards the beast, intent on shifting its attention away from his leader. Not very sensible, he thought, with how wounded he was. But his wife always told him he wasn't very sensible. With a slight smile and fond memories, he dives into a roll the last 10' approaching the creature, spinning all his momentum into a powerful downslash into the creature.

Tumble check: rolled a 20, to avoid AoO, JUST in case the big things have reach :)

Ingrge nearly looks like K'nara as he cavorts with his rapier quickly striking twice at the blue beast in front of him. (Hitting AC 32 and 29, for 12 and 7 points plus a loss of 4 and 2 points of constitution.)

Lian dashes across the clearing, leaping into the air, and kicking blue beast #1. The kick raises a small bruise, which quickly begins to disappate.

Brother Bertram continues to lie on the ground, his life-blood slowly oozing from his wounds. [OOC: Keep trying to roll 7 on a d10, to stabilize.]

Milo slashes at the tiger again, with two well-placed attacks. His second blow pierces through the mighty flank, and cleaves the beast's heart in two. The huge cat sighs out its last breath, and falls to the ground, clearly dead. [OOC: No problem about the subdual damage, but it can turn out to be important in some cases; thanks for keeping track.]

K'Nara shoots twice at the second blue-skinned beast. Her first shot connects, but her second shot misses, as the the beast dodges and moves in melee. [OOC: Donna, I looked at your character sheet, and I couldn't find the 'Precise Shot' feat. If you don't have this feat, you are at -4 to fire into melee.]

Orson runs across the clearing, diving and rolling under the slashing hook of the creature. [OOC: Smart move, since the creatures do in fact have a 10' reach :) ] His leaping, swinging attack opens a gash in the side of the blue-skinned creature, and the beast collapses to the ground in a heap.

[OOC: In this case, you only get an attack of opportunity if you have something that gives you a 10' reach. If the creature only moves into a threatened square, but not through the square or out of the square, there is no AoO. OK?] Ingrge's two piercing rapier attacks both hit, poking holes in the beast's torso.

Tremaine lies on the ground, but his bleeding appears to have stopped.

Blue-skinned beast #1 also lies on the ground, its glazed eyes staring up to the sky.

Blue-skinned beast #2 swings its huge hooks at Olana, hitting the elf twice, opening large wounds in her leather armour, and the flesh underneath. [OOC: 18 hp total damage; I think this drops her below zero.] It turns to face Milo, and lashes out with its one remaining hook attack, but misses the little halfling. It bites down, as well, but this attack also fails to connect.

Blue beast #3 attacks the displaced Ingrge, but holding the bucket in one hand means the creature can only attack with two of its bone hooks, and its bite. One of the bone hooks manages to connect, opening a gash in the wizard's shoulder. [OOC: hit for 10 hp damage] The creature's bite attack misses by a significant amount, as it tries to juggle the attack with protecting the bucket and sap.

Then the monk searches the dwarfs equipment for a cure potion.
"Friend Bertram, the Talons need you."

(Mark, is there a potion in Bertrams equipment?)

"Olana!!!" the scream of panic was ripped from K'Nara's throat as the hook-monster the ranger had been facing brought her down. Immediately the human bladesinger began to sprint forward, dropping her bow--her sole thought was to get to that thing before it could finish Olana off and get its hooks onto that vial.

(OOC: since they are a good 60 feet or so away, I just know that it's going to take K'Nara two rounds to reach Olana's side. Next round I anticipate the redhead will be drawing Lucia out of her scabbard. Oh, and she's opting to use her Dodge against B2, thus her AC24 for any hits from that one.)

Figment targets the blue beast that is attacking Ingrge, hitting it with his missiles.

Lian spends the full turn stabilizing Bertram, and searching through the cleric's backpack and gear, looking for a potion of healing, but has no luck.

K'Nara starts to tear across the clearing, heading for the blue beast that had just felled Olana.

Bertram is unconscious, but stabilized.

Milo attacks the blue creature in front of him. [OOC: Sorry, Milo is the only threatening attacker, so there is no flanking damage, until someone else joins the melee with this beast. I re-rolled Milo's damage, and since he doesn't get the flanking bonus, he only got one hit in.] He swings his speedy short sword at the beast, but hits only once, for 2 hp damage.

Olana lies unconscious, bleeding, beside the still-intact vial. [OOC: You get to try two stabilizing rolls in your next post. Try to roll a 7 on a d10, or lose another hit point.]

Orson leaps to his feat beside Milo, and in front of the blue skinned creature that had just dropped Olana. His sword bites deeply into the creature's hide, drawing more of the green blood.

Ingrge's rapier punches two holes in the blue creature in front of him, and the creature crashes to the ground. The bucket also falls, and the thick sap starts to pour over the side.

The creature then turns to the halfling, and swings its other 3 hook attacks, and its bite. Through some stroke of luck, all of the attacks swish harmlessly over the rogue's head. The creature gives its head a shake, and realizes that the attacks will need to be lower, next time.

The thought was uppermost in the human bladesinger's mind as the hook-handed beastie laid Orson low and attacked the stalwart Milo.

Weaponless and running, K'Nara reached upwards and behind her right shoulder, relief flooding her body when the familiar feel of Lucia's hilt was in her hand. She withdrew the magic blade from its sheath.

"...Lucia..!" the auburn-haired warrior woman bellowed as she charged towards the creature standing over the bodies of two of her own--K'Nara's flaming sword was ready to give as good as this thing was willing to dish out. Lian rolls and tumbles next to Olana, but fails to heal her this round. Although his tumbling allowed him to get near Olana without an attack of opportunity, his action to heal her opens him to just such an attack. Fortunately, the creature swings wide.

K'Nara charges the blue-skinned creature, ready to swing next round. [OOC: Donna, I don't know why you didn't have K'Nara charge and attack last round. You only needed to cover about 35'-40', well within her charge range. Or am I missing something?]

Figment blasts the last standing blue-skinned creature with his missiles, burning the creature's hide. He doesn't notice any of the other creatures stirring, and Tremaine is still unmoving.

Olana bleeds. [OOC: She is at -6 hp at the start of party round 7. You can try to roll the 7 to stabilize again next round.]

Milo tumbles to the other side of the creature from the charging K'Nara. His two blows stagger the creature, causing more green blood to appear on the beast's hide.

Orson bleeds {OOC: Orson is at -9 hp. If you don't roll a successful 7 for the stabilization roll, or someone doesn't heal you in party turn 7, its curtains for Orson. Hint: I suggest you wait until everyone else has posted before you post tomorrow night.]

Ingrge successfully rights the bucket, catching the thick sap before it can spill on the ground. His 3 missiles strike true, dropping the beast to the ground, hide smoking.

Bertram lies on the ground, safely stabilized.

Even as K'Nara swung the fiery Lucia up to slice down on the blue-skinned monster, the intrepid Milo dispatched the creature even as he nimbly danced out of the way of K'Nara's charge.

"Lucia!" snapped the woman warrior, extinguishing the now-unneeded flame blade, which she then let fall to the ground. She lost no time in shrugging off her backpack.

"I have potions that will help heal up all who need it!" she said, tearing open her pack and rummaging around for the bottles of curative elixir. She came up with a couple of bottles marked "CMW." K'Nara bit down on the stopper of one and yanked it out of the bottle, spitting the cork to one side.

"Allow me, Lian..." the leader of the Talons said to the anxious monk, administering the potion she'd just opened up to the unconscious Orson--anxious herself to see if the man was going to survive this particular battle (OOC: the Cure Moderate Wounds potion will heal 12hpd.)

"I have six more bottles of this stuff if anyone needs it..." K'Nara announced, looking around with the second, unopened bottle in her hand.

"Give this to her it should help quite a bit. (23 points) I have a few more potions here as well for whom ever might need them." Turning toward Figment Ingrge calls out, "Hey Figment, You and Lian want to cut off a few of these blue beast's heads? I didn't like how their wounds were healing over so quickly.

Ingrge then becomes solid again to everyones eyes as he disengages his staff's spell.

Figment (Fly)
Monday June 2nd, 2003 9:18:55 PM

Seeing all foes defeated and his fallen friends being administered to, the mage swoops down to closely - but quickly - examine the blue beasties. He doesn't stop but immediately heads to Tremaine and quickly binds his hands and feet. "Sorry, my friend. This is not how I ever expected to deal with you...". He search Tremaine for the extra-dimensional bag that is the prison for the fae girl and then immediately relieves Tremaine of any other magic items he may be carrying. "If you are here, Fae, we need to keep Tremaine unconcious until we determine what the Hands of Love have done to him. He is not evil, he has been brainwashed in some way. Any ideas how we - or anyone - can help? Also, tell us about the red dragon blood and the sap. I think it is important we understand if we are to stop those that sent Tremaine.".

Lian rushes over, and heroically manages to stop the last bit of life from bleeding out of Orson's body.

K'Nara over to Orson's body, and takes out a potion, pouring it down the wounded figure's throat. [OOC: Orson does indeed get 12 hp back, giving him a total of 3 hp.]

Milo moves over to Olana's side, and casts a healing spell over her, giving her 10 hp back. She sits up and shakes the cobwebs out of her head, trying to figure out exactly what happened.

Ingrge, carrying the bucket, passes a potion to Milo, to offer it to Olana.

Figment moves to inspect the nearest blue creature (B2). While he is bending over the creature, confirming that it is in fact dead (and it is), blue creature B3 leaps to its feet, flaps its wings, and flies to the south edge of the clearing, gaining height.

The human bladesinger frowned, growling at the sight of one of the monsters attempting escape...but both Lucia and her bow were on the ground--and Brother Bertram had yet to be revived.

"Get the damn thing if you can." K'Nara ordered, taking the second CMW bottle over to the unconscious dwarf. "I'll revive our other cleric..." So saying, the leader of the Emerald Talons gave her other potion to Bertram. (OOC: this potion heals up 12hpd.)

Aftermath (DM Greg)
Tuesday June 3rd, 2003 11:36:09 PM

For some reason, Ingrge aims well over the flying beast's head, and the fireball explodes harmlessly, lighting up the noon sky with a second, brief sun. [OOC: Fireball has a 20' radius, so if you target your fireball 35' above the creature, it has no effect.] However, Lian's arrow, and Figment's magical missiles combine to bring the flying creature crashing to the ground, at the south edge of the clearing.

The previously unconscious party members carefully stand and stretch, making sure all others survived the encounter. [OOC: Everyone did, but some of you were darn close!]

Looking around, Olana spots the vial containing the red dragon's blood, with a few remaining flames flickering on the surface of the glass, and quickly dying out.

Tremaine is checked out, and is found to be unconscious, but stabilized, and still in the form of a giant grey creature. There is no sign of an extra-dimensional prison, or a small female sprite. [OOC: Do you still plan to try to bind the huge creature?] The last blue creature in the clearing is dead.

As the party catches their collective breath, five small forms fly into the clearing. The sprite leader approaches, and says, "You have defeated the shifter and his minions! Wonderful! Now, please help me find my daughter!"

He then begins to look around for the daughter or dimensional signs.
"Maybe the prison is invisible and nearby. Could someone detect it? Maybe it's ethereal?!" Enquires the enthusiasic monk.

K'Nara
Wednesday June 4th, 2003 6:50:55 AM

The leader of the Emerald Talons couldn't help but grin at Brother Bertram's question.

"Aye, good cleric," she said with a nod, "We won." The situation with Tremaine made K'Nara frown again, though--Lian's observation especially.

"That was my way of thinking, too," the tall female fighter agreed with the monk, "But obviously something here is amiss--Tremaine hasn't changed back...and we have to get him back into human form so that his possessions revert back to their true states as well." K'Nara rubbed her chin thoughtfully, trying to think of some way of speeding the transformation--then she remembered something...

"Say--what did you mean before when you were telling me to keep the sap safe and pure..?" the human bladesinger asked the sprite. "You said something about the sap being able to 'help' as long as it was untainted--what can it help with..?"

Wednesday June 4th, 2003 10:40:31 PM

The elf picks up the vial for safekeeping, a bit worried that both componants for whatever Tremaine was trying to do - were still in close proximity.

"What should we do with this dragon blood?" she asks Ingrge and Figment.

The sap, the dragon's blood, and some answers (DM Greg)
Wednesday June 4th, 2003 11:47:09 PM

The sprite leader is obviously very distracted, but pauses to answer your questions. Meanwhile, the sprites that are with him scamper around the clearing, trying to find where the young fae could be hidden.

"I will try to answer your questions as best as I am able," the tiny sprite says. "Firstly, it is my understanding that the shifter will stay in this form as long as he is unconscious. Only in death will he be forced back into his original form. There may be other ways to force him to change, but I do not know of any. Of course, if he were conscious, he could choose to shift back of his own accord.

"Secondly, the sap from the Ish'gara tree is a type of distilled, altered Woldsblood. It contains tremendous power to change what is, and may be able to transform the shifter back, but it will likely require some sort of ritual to empower it for that result. I do know that in its pure form, the sap can be consumed, and will permanently affect the imbiber, for the better. It can also be poured on an item already magicked, and will alter the item to increase its magic, or perhaps add another power.

"Finally, it would be very dangerous for this sap to fall into the wrong hands. As an example, the ritual that the shifter was performing would have combined the sap with the red dragon's blood, creating an elixir, that when consumed, would have turned the shifter into a red dragon himself. There are other ancient, obscure rituals that can also be used on the sap, that could lead it to be used for equally dangerous purposes. Right now, without the dragon's blood being prepared again, it is relatively harmless.

"Your bravery, and willingness to help in defeating this foe, and to help me find my daughter (albeit some of you a little more reluctantly than others), lead me to believe that you should use the sap on yourselves. This would serve two purposes: to reward you for your efforts, and to remove the sap from "play". In the pail, there are enough doses of the sap that each of you can use one portion as you see fit: to enhance yourself, or to enhance a magic item.

"But first, please help me to recover my daughter."

Mumbling to himself about arcs, velocity, mass, tangents and something about Pi(e), Ingrge strolls over to K'nara and hands her the bucket.

Speaking more clearly to the rest, Ingrge bends down over the fallen changed Tremaine. "I don't know if this is going to work or not... Please be ready to pull me away if necessary and to keep Tremaine captured until we see if this is going to work."

Settling down to work Ingrge walks to Tremaine's head and starts casting a spell (dispel magic roll- 23)

Ingrge crouches down over the prone form of Tremaine, presently shifted into the large grey creature. He casts dispell magic, and then watches as his handiwork takes effect. "Great job, Ingrge!" K'Nara complimented the elven spellcaster, nodding with a smile. "Let's take all the stuff off him except his clothes...we have to find that imprisoned sprite..!"

The woman warrior began to do as she had ordered, searching the unconscious ex-leader of the Tines and making sure that he was left with no weapon or item that may possibly be magic.

"We should tie him up in case he still proves to be irrational." K'Nara added. (OOC: if a Search check is required, the roll I made above should total 20; if it is merely a Spot check to be sure that all Tremaine is left with are his clothes, then the total is only 19.)

The elf gives a sigh. Tremaine in that grey render form had been making her a little nervous.
The only problem was - he wasn't awake to tell them about where the fae captive was.

Maybe Lian had the right idea.

"What do you think?" she whispers to Milo. "Do you think the fae is hidden by magic means?"

K'Nara searches the unconscious Tine leader, taking everything off of him, except his undergarments. She finds a heavy cloth tunic, long cotton pants, ankle-high boots, a ring, a cloak held by a simple copper brooch, a small black pearl on a silver chain, and a belt pouch on a simple rope belt. Opening the pouch, she counts out 50 platinum pieces, 3 small gems, and a piece of folded light cloth, held by a large clasp resembling a money clip. The shapeshifter also wears a light undershirt, and standard undergarments, but for the sake of modesty, leaves these on the unconscious figure. She then proceeds to bind him.

Meanwhile, Bertam proceeds to heal the party members. [OOC: Not knowing how far everyone is down, I don't know if the cleric can heal them all up simply using spells or not. Maybe if you would post your current and total hit points in your post title (hint), then we would all know whether Bertram can heal everyone up easily, and thus not require any rolls.]

The fae leader and his aides are actively searching around the clearing, seeing if there is any sign of where the leader's daughter might be hidden.

The missing Fae...or not? (DM Greg)
Monday June 9th, 2003 11:38:12 PM

Ingrge casts detect magic, and determines that, of the items on Tremaine, the ring, the cloak, the pearl on the chain, and the folded cloth all detect as magical. Each item only shows one aura. [OOC: If you continue to concentrate on your spell, you can detect the schools of magic on the items, next round.]

Olana looks around the clearing, and sees nothing out of the ordinary. She notices the apparatus attached to the tree has ceased its glowing. It appears to be made of a number of rods, gears, and linkages, magically held together somehow, with most of the items made from precious stones and metal. The apparatus looks like it is worth a significant amount of money.

Figment takes the clasp off the folded cloth, and proceeds to unfold it on the ground. It unfolds to a circle of cloth about 6' in diameter. As he opens the last fold, a hole appears to open in the middle of the fabric, and a huge 4-armed gorilla climbs out of the hole, screaming a challenge and pounding its chest with all four arms.

He watches carefully, still weary of possible dangers in the area, bt sits to catch his breath, not having much insight to add in the search for the fae.

Seeing the creature spring forth from the strange cloth, Orson rises, picking up his blades from where they lay beside him, whince as his standing stretches his unhealed wounds.

Turning to face the 4 armed beast, he prepares to move in, but the severity of his wounds cause him to move slowly, delaying his charge as others spring to attack.

Finally...the fey daughter (DM Greg)
Tuesday June 10th, 2003 11:52:51 PM

As Lian and Milo jump to attack the huge four-armed ape, the fey leader shouts, "Stop!" He waves his hand, and the ape suddenly disappears. Then he calls out a single word in Sylvan, and a small hovering figure appears over the hole created in the cloth. The small figure spins around, trying to figure what is going on. She spots the fey leader, and shoots through the air, directly into his arms. There is a tearful moment, as the two fey re-uinte. While they are hugging and crying, the party can recognize the newcomer as another sprite, this time a young female.

Then the now-smiling fey leader moves over to the party, who are gathered around the unconscious, bound Tremaine, and says, in a rapid voice, "Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you all so much! It is your efforts that have returned my daughter to me safe and sound, and defeated her captors! Please, accept the sap as my thanks to you all. Remember, there is one dose for each of you. If you do not use the sap, I will be forced to destroy it, lest it be found and put to misuse." [OOC: If you plan to use the sap, please describe how each of you plan to use it: on yourself or on a magic item.]

"Also, I need to find a way to hide the Ish'Gara tree from the world. I realize now that it is too dangerous for this great and fantastic tree to be out in the open, and so easily found. I need you to disconnect the apparatus, and take it with you, away from the forest and this tree. I also need your ideas as to how the tree can best be hidden."

Meanwhile, Ingrge manages to maintain his concentration on the detect magic spell, and finds out the following: the ring detects as Abjuration, the pearl detects as Divination, and the cloak detects as Abjuration. Each item only shows the presence of a single aura.

K'Nara
Wednesday June 11th, 2003 8:21:30 AM

Finally done with binding Tremaine, K'Nara goes over to Orson, smiling as she produces three of her remaining bottles of her healing potions.

"Even after sustaining heavy damage after taking down other foes, you just had to go charging up to another one of them beasties, eh, warrior..?" she said, half-admonishing and half-humorous. "Here, drink at least one of these...the other two are for your use...I always make sure that official members of the Talons have at least two curing potions." The proud smile on her fair face was clearly reflected in the depths of her hazel eyes.

(OOC: these are three bottles of Cure Moderate Wounds potion; each bottle will heal 2d8+2hp of damage. And, yes...K'Nara now definitely considers Orson a "tried & true Talon"...officially.)

The tall redhead eyed the tree and the apparatus attached to it.

"I'll let the brains of this outfit figure out how to detach that thing..." K'Nara said, nodding at the machine, "...'tis obvious that we should be able to dismantle it and/or melt it down a bit and sell it for its precious metal & gem value. As for how to hide the tree..." The human bladesinger pondered this for a moment. "...I think that perhaps the best way to do this is in plain sight--maybe a permanent illusion to make the tree appear to be either a different tree, or a completely different plant--some tall grass, maybe. What do YOU think..?" Now K'Nara turned and looked at the rest of her party, obviously inviting other people's ideas and suggestions.

K'Nara planned to use her portion of the sap on Lucia, the flaming sword that had been given to her by the famous Gold Dragons.

Milo (endurance; hp 36)

Stumbling back from the ape with a bewildered look on his face, Milo sits on the ground, shocked. Milo looks to the fey for answers.

Olana breathes a sigh of relief, after all - Tremaine on that wild state could have done anything to that little fey.
She is glad to see it on one piece.

While pondering the best way to dismantle "the contraption" from the tree ((DISABLE DEVICE DC14 - sheesh)), she offers the following -

"That's a good idea, K'Nara - or perhaps yet another illusion that takes your path always 'past' the tree, and never 'to' it."

"If the sap is good magic - then I shall drink it," she adds.

Brother Bertram

The mage decides to watch the effects of the sap on the others and also on Lucia. He also looks at the contraption connected to the tree to see if sap is still being produced. If so he makes sure it is collected until they decide how to dismantle it. Turning to the Fey he decides to ask some questions. "I have two questions for you. First, what would be the effect of drinking two draughts of the sap - or on on item? Second, do you have any mans to keep our captive here sedated for a time? We need to keep him down until we are able to get him home.".

To drink or not to drink... (DM Greg)
Wednesday June 11th, 2003 11:33:23 PM

[OOC: Jay, neither the belt nor the brooch detected as magic to Ingrge.]

The fey leader continues to explain, "The ape-creature that you saw was an illusion created by my daughter when the 'space' she was trapped in was opened. I recognized it, since I trained her in creating this illusion as a defense mechanism. And since I recognized it, I was able to dispell it. That is when she flew out of the space, and back safely into my arms."

"In answer to your questions of the sap: In its raw form, such as it is now, I have only known it to have had beneficial effects on anyone either drinking it or using it on an existing magic item. As I understand it makes either the imbiber or the item more powerful. I, myself, have never drunk any, and I don't know of anyone who has, since it hasn't been used in many years. I only know what I know from our lore. I do know that it quickly loses potency once it is tapped from the tree, so you may not have much time to decide. There is enough for one dose for each of you, as I said before. I do not know what effect taking more than one dose would have, but it is very powerful magic in its raw form."

[OOC: In your next post, if you decide to use the sap, please state: 'So-and-so drinks their dose of the sap', or 'so-and-so pours their dose on magic item X'. Either way, if you drink the sap, or pour it on a magic item, you need to roll a d12 and a d100 in your next post.]

"As for the shifter, I have no means to keep him sedated. Is there a healer in your party? And has that healer determined exactly how badly hurt the shifter is, and when he might be expected to regain consciousness?"

Meanwhile, Olana starts to disassemble the apparatus attached to the tree. It is remarkably simple to remove and pull apart, since she is not worried about keeping its integrity as a functioning machine, but rather trying to protect the valuable components from damage. She notices that most of the components are made from semi-precious stones, and precious stones and metals. However, in the center of the apparatus there is a plain wooden staff, that looks out of place against the rest of the valuable parts.

"Perhaps the staff is magic..." K'Nara said out loud as Olana revealed the inner workings of the dazzling apparatus. Her voice was a bit preoccupied because the human bladesinger was taking sap from the bucket and spreading it on her sword. "...if so, it would be the only item I would feel comfortable in keeping from Tremaine--all the other items are definitely his own personal belongings, and should be placed in storage until...until we can be sure that he is himself once more." So saying, K'Nara held Lucia at arm's length, turning the blade this way and that to gauge the effectiveness of the sap on the weapon.

"You know, I will cheerfully skin you, fey, if this ruins my sword..!" the tall redhead said in a mock-growl. It was obvious that, while she WAS anxious about the possible damaging of the weapon, K'Nara really didn't mean a word of what she'd just said.

Passing on the information about the magical ring, cloak and pearl that he has scanned and with a slight grin mentions that the black cloth, that the ape/fey just sprang out of, is in all likelihood magical too.

Then Ingrge waits until each has used their portion of the sap and then takes it and spreads it over his staff that was given to him by the Gold Dragons.

Turning to Olanna he watches the proceedings and then quickly asks, "Olanna, what did you do with the vial of red dragon's blood? Four members of the Talons risk drinking the sap, while the other 3 pour it on their various magic items.

Olana collects the various valuable parts of the apparatus. She calls the party's attention to the staff, holding it up for everyone to see.

Having no items he wishes to enhance, the mage drinks down the potion. He grimaces as Olana dismantles the aparatus. "Please wait, Olana. I do not doubt your ability but I think it best I examine the appartus before it gets too dismantled - if will let me...". If so allowed the mage examines the apparatus carefully, taking special care to determine how it was connected to the tree. He also examines the staff. He quickly assesses how the contraption is assembled and notes all its working pieces. He also notes the composition of the peices (Arcana 32, Spellcraft 40, Engineering 31).

After helping dismantle the thing - and storing it in the portable hole - he turns to the fey. "So would you object to someone who cares to imbibe a drought of sap in the future? Is it forbidden in some way or is available under certain conditions? I ask more as a curiousity as I do not know the lore of the tree. Will you share some about it to us? All we really know are inaccurate legends and old wives tales.".

"Can't the tree be made more difficult to reach but still part of the Wold, by shifting it a bit, perhaps into another plane of existance?"

He finishes his question aat the same time as he finishes painting his staff. As he holds the staff up to make sure he covered it all his staff starts transforming, watching in silent horror as the staff bends, curves and warps in to unnatural shapes, and then after a few minutes the staff finally resumes its natural shape and Ingrge lets out a sigh of relief.

"That had me worried there for a moment."

Ingrge then takes a few moments to check out the staff to make sure there is nothing wrong with it and to see if he can divine what changes have occured. When finished He nods and states, "Well everything sems to be alright here."

After having consumed the sap, Milo drops to his knees, and finally keels over, laying on the ground in a fetal position. A moan escapes his lips as he begins to twitch, and then shake violently. Those watching notice the halfling's shoulders broaden slightly, and what was left of his 'halfling baby fat' is consumed. At first he simply appears thin, and then the muscles in his chest, arms, legs, indeed his entire body, enlarge visibly. Milo grits his teeth through the transformation, though he lets out a gasp of pain as his diminutive body goes through the quickest growth spurt that it has ever experienced. Then just as suddenly as it started, it stops, and Milo lay on the ground exhausted. Looking up feebly, he stares around the grove, "I'm hungry." Milo passes out.

Moments after drinking the potion, the elf's eyes widen.

"Oooooooh...." she exclaims, pausing for a moment as her body tingles all over. "Oh my...." she adds, suddenly feeling rejuvenated, not stronger particularly, but more.... healthy, perhaps.
For a moment it makes her giggle.

Sobering up, she stands alongside Figment watching him take a look at the contraption - he is obviously more capable with machinery, going off how he seemed to be examining it. Pushing a few blonde locks back into her braid, she says -
"Er... well I tried not to break anyth -"

She stops mid-sentence as Milo falls down, and her face turns fearful.

K'Nara
Friday June 13th, 2003 3:07:32 PM

After having poured the thick sap along the length of the blade and the haft of the sword, K'Nara stood with it in hand for a few seconds. Then--suddenly--the sword bucked and shook in her hand, bursting into flame, and then just as quickly, extinguishes.

K'Nara's face paled and her hazel eyes widened in shock as she eyed her trusty blade with an expression of pure shock. Once again Lucia burst into flame, then went out again.

"I...I am K'Nara Illutu, daughter of Lowell and Jocelyn..." the leader of the Talons said in a voice that was clearly addressing--the sword in her hand..!

Could whatever madness that may have claimed Tremaine now transplanted itself into K'Nara..?

Bertram sways as the thick sap goes down, his balance lost in the rush of power that goes through his body. As the vertigo subsides he somehow feels more powerful, as if his body was stronger. He flexes his hands feeling strength course through them. Bertram bows his head for a moment, thanking both Domi and Gargul for this gift.

Discussing the tree and the sap, and asking a favour (DM Greg)
Monday June 16th, 2003 9:20:03 PM

Figment moves over to Olana as she finishes dismantling the apparatus, and takes a close look at the pieces that she has dismantled. As he handles the various pieces, he can feel the last of the power draining from them. He figures that he might be able to put it together again, given his level of arcane knowledge, but he is not 100% certain. He understands that its primary purpose was to draw the magical sap from the Ish'gara tree, while still maintaining the sap's properties, and even refining it. Just tapping the tree, without this special apparatus, will net tree sap, but it would be much less powerful. The staff itself is magical.

The sprite answers Figment's question about someone else imbibing the sap. "That apparatus, and the rituals that the shifter performed on it, powered the sap to an incredible level. In the past, any friend of the forest that has imbibed the raw sap has been healed of injury, and possibly had their disease healed. But I have heard of others in the past that have taken the sap without the forest's permission, so to speak, and have been transformed into harmless creatures. It is almost as if this tree embodies a part of the forest, and can 'select' how the sap reacts in the drinker. A large role of that apparatus was to overcome the natural 'defenses' of the tree, and to make the sap drinkable by the shifter. I have also heard of the sap being used by keepers of the forest to regenerate parts of the woods that were damaged by unnatural means. But the most basic magical power of the sap is to transform."

The sprite responds to Ingrge's suggestion, "It may be possible to shift the tree to another plane, but I doubt it. The tree is tremendously tied to the Wold on this plane of existence, and to this forest. I believe it would be possible for my tribe and I to create enough illusions to cover the tree up, but anyone powerful enough to seek out the tree would likely be able to see through the illusions."

Lastly, he addresses K'Nara, as she looks up from talking to her sword. He smiles and says "I am sure that you are not mad. I, too can sense the sentience in your sword. Now, before you leave, I would ask all of you for a great favour. You have proven yourselves to be a very powerful and able group, and I would ask your help in protecting the tree over the long term. I would like you to carry this." He hands a small brooch to K'Nara. The brooch is a small, platinum replica of the Ish'gara tree. "This brooch would allow me to contact you if the tree was ever in serious danger, and if you so will it, you and any 10 others touching you will be teleported to this clearing. Believe me, I would only use it if the need was great. Will you carry this for me, the Ish'gara tree, and the forest?"

Milo's eyes snap open, and the halfling rolls off his back into a hand spring, and then stands up straight. Though on many other folks it wouldn't be noticeable, on Milo it is quite apparent that the halfling has grown a full two inches. He also looks stronger and leaner than before, his shoulders an inch or so broader and the muscles on his diminutive frame are like cord as they ripple beneath his skin. He smiles, "Wow... that hurt... I don't think I've experienced growing pains like that since I was very young." The halfling chuckles.

The mage packs the contraption away for future study as he has time. "I'd say that the tree protects itself from most of those who would attempt to defile it. Any who could overcome your illusions would most likely be able to overcome whatever protections you put in place and the tree itself as well. So I take it Tremaine was going t combine the red dragon blood with the sap and drink it. What would have happened to him? Any idea?".

"What if we transplanted the tree to another part of the Wold, it WILL remain safe?"

"Figment, maybe Tremaine was planning to be a red dragon forever."

K'Nara
Tuesday June 17th, 2003 6:45:48 AM

For a moment, the tall woman's hazel eyes shift from the sword in hand to the smiling fey and back again. Then, with her trademark flourishing spin--and (this time) a quickly whispered "excuse me" to the blade--K'Nara slid Lucia back into its customary sheath on her back.

"Almost two years ago I made a vow to my elven master that I would protect all the beings who wished to live in peace and harmony in the Emerald Kingdom." she said to the sprite. "Certainly that would include such a tree as this! But, even if it did not, I would be honored to take on such a responsibility." K'Nara stretched forth her hand and accepted the brooch from Fils, pinning it onto her cloak.

"By the way, Milo...Bertram..." the human bladesinger added, "...if you're both all done becoming 'new and improved'...poor Orson has waited long enough for some major healing."

(OOC: I'm assuming that Orson didn't receive any cure spells from either cleric and didn't get healed when/if he chose to drink his portion of the sap.)

Brother Bertram
Tuesday June 17th, 2003 1:42:07 PM

Bertram listens to the Fey and K'nara speak with interest. His eyes grow cold hearing K'nara's harsh words to himself and Milo. Speaking slowly, holding his anger in, Bertram replies, "Begging your pardon, I did not realize that suddenly Milo and myself were on your payroll. Perhaps if you had not been so caught up in making your own weapon all 'new and improved' you would have realized we have already tended to the wounded." Bertram hoists in pack, grips his axe and walks stiffly back the way they came into the woods, waiting for his blood to cool.

((OOC First act Bertram performed was to use all his spells available to get everyone healed.))

((OOC Hmmmm...I DID post that I was assuming that Orson's posts indicating that he had NOT been healed were correct. If Orson was, indeed, healed, then it would have shown and K'Nara would not have made the statement. -- Donna))

Olana
Tuesday June 17th, 2003 3:59:55 PM

Olana's blue eyes open wide for a moment as she sees the result of Milo's transformation.
"Wow..." she says, softly.

Mention of the dragon's blood makes her ask the question of her friends -
"What are we going to do with the stuff? I bet it's dangerous."

((OOC - I think Bertie did mention healing at least twice by my reckoning))

Orson (11/57 HP)
Tuesday June 17th, 2003 5:05:01 PM

<Backpost>

As Bertram made his rounds checking for wounded, Orson waves him off claiming he was fine, wishing to see others healed before himself. He had drank the one healing potion, so much of the bloodloss had stopped, and his grievous wounds were beneath his armor and clothing, so he merely downplayed the severity.

<Current>

Orson rubs his sap onto his blade shortly after K'Nara does to hers. Staring curiously as the bladesinger begins talking to her weapon, he misses the initial effeft on the blade, but feels the eletricity surging through the weapon. Jolts of energy shoot across the blade, Orson tensing against the slight discomfort caused as the blade situates its new power. He smirks, having just traded in a shocking blade just before this mission, but this one seemed much more powerful than the old blade.

Orson groans quietly as he stands, shifting and streching his still present wounds. He wipes his blades clean on his tunic, which was already soaked in his enemies blood, and his own. Sheathing his blades, he watches K'Nara's and Betram's exchange about his wounds. Orson merely turns and walks slowly away from the others, not being able to say either failed at their statements, Bertram had indeed offered healing, but K'Nara rightly noticed the big man still greviously wounded.

OOC: I guess I missed your healing post as well. I was posting Orson still at 3hp, so is my fault, not Donna's :) So, for clarity, Orson mearly waved off Bertrams offered healing before (he would want to see Olana and others healed before himself anyway).

((OOC Bertram informed Greg he would use all his spells, trading up for healing if need be until everyone was healed. At this level, unless he rolled straight 1's everyone should be fine.))
