Search Party Ahoy!

Bright Starr-ADM Nellie
Thursday May 1st, 2003 11:03:16 PM

Akerin, Rigging, Bart, and Ari quickly recall that Jamie said that Starr would be available at the repository during the daylight hours. Since the sun hasn't quite risen yet, the family is able to get in a quick cat nap if desired before visiting Starr.

After breakfast, Akerin, Rigging, Bart, and Ari head out, following the crystal clear directions that were given to them by Jamie last night. Passing through the public market, the small band spots several booths sporting exotic wares. One stand specializes in exquisitely intricate jewelry, which is undeniably of Elven craftsmanship.

The Scroll Repository is a small one story building with intricate carvings of various constellations etched into the marble façade. Arriving shortly after day break, the group finds it a simple task to locate Starr, since she is currently the only occupant of the building. Several nautical maps are scattered over a small table, with a diminutive human bent over them. With black hair, brown eyes, and olive skin, Starr is rather unassuming, though elegantly dressed in a fine jade silk suit. As the party enters, Starr remains seated at the table, intently pouring over the scrolls in front of her.

Akerin
Friday May 2nd, 2003 3:37:37 PM

"Good morning," Akerin says to the woman sitting at the table. "Pardon us for disturbing your studies. We were looking for a woman by the name of Starr. We are from the Sword of the Sea. Heard about a ship gone missing." The healer regards her with a countenance reflecting concern and curiosity.

Rigging
Friday May 2nd, 2003 4:27:51 PM

Rigging nods at the scholar when she lifts her head in their direction and notices them. "Yes as my friend has mentioned, The Sword of the Seas is currently without a mission and a missing pirate ship is something that needs to be found. What can you tell us about this mission.

Ari
Friday May 2nd, 2003 7:04:22 PM

Ari decides to glance around and see what wonders there might be to see as the others talk to the human woman before them. He doesn't want to disturb anything at this point, but he feels he doesn't need to say anything more than what has already been said.

Appolo
Sunday May 4th, 2003 12:15:43 AM

Appolo had left the bar before the others and proceeded to his room at Jacks place alone. He then drank half a bottle of wine and went to sleep. Sleeping in wellinto the next afternoon not bothering with breakfast.

The Ironbank-ADM Nellie
Monday May 5th, 2003 10:57:14 AM

Starr starts slightly at the approach of Akerin and Rigging, but recovers quickly. Her warm countenance is off set by her ice cold grey eyes as she examines each of the Wildcards in turn. "Hmmm...from the Sword of the Seas you say. Yes, yes...I've heard of you. You are the Sword's Wildcard's, aren't you? You know, you've made quite a name for yourselves with that potion you found. Oh, and congratulations on your recent victory at Pete's...what a sudden turn around you accomplished there. And yes, I'm Starr, so you've come to the right place."

Starr smiles warmly at Rigging. "You must be the one they call Rigging. Congratulations on your recent marriage...though I hear that you'll have your hands full with that wife of yours." Starr winks mischievously and then motions to the charts in front of her.

"But enough chit chat...we have very serious business to discuss. Praise Alemi for sending you to me so quickly! And from what I hear, you're going to be the perfect team for this mission. The ship you are looking for is the Ironbank. She was dispatched over six months ago on an extremely important mission, and we haven't heard a whisper from her since she set sail. Now, I'm not the worrying kind, but I know a bad sign when I see one, and we'd like for you to check things out."

Starr pauses for a few moments, collecting her thoughts before she continues. "The Ironbank previously made contact with and negotiated a contract with the native aquatic elf tribe who live near Ageos, a small but very strategically-located island of the coast of Aisildur. Starr indicates the island on the sea chart before her. "In return for forged weapons, the elves agreed to observe and report the comings& goings of Aisilduran ships that are trying to trade with Izen. The Ironbank was returning to that island with The Jack's authorization to supply the goods in exchange for the information the elves will provide. There's been quite a bit of Aisildurian travel going on down there, and I don't think I need to explain the importance of finding what is going on."

Starr's cold eyes examine Rigging's form. "As I said before, it's been over six months since this occurred, and the King of Coins hasn't received any word from the Ironbank at all. Even more disturbing is that none of our spellcasters have been able to locate the ship. So that brings us back to you. Your mission is actually rather simple...you will follow the route the Ironbank took, discover the ship's fate and to complete the original mission. Your captain contacted me last night, and your ship is being outfitted as we speak." Starr reaches into a pocket and pulls out a scroll sealed with the Jack's personal insignia. "Here is a copy of the Jack's formalization of the agreement...just in case you need it. And of course, I've had the appropriate nautical charts copied and sent to the Sword." Starr hands the scroll to Rigging. "I don't want to put any pressure on you, but you must realize how important this mission is. We can't afford to let this opportunity pass us by. Can I count on you?"

Ari's examination of the room proves very interesting indeed. The building appears to hold nautical maps to almost every location of the Wold, including some that Ari has never heard of. There also appears to several volumes on the history of the Pirates of Jack, as well as what appears to be a few arcane magic scrolls.

Back at the Jack's palace, Appolo, Valanthe, Ashira and Redux find the palace the perfect place to do a little R&R as each of them entertain themselves in various manners.

Rigging
Monday May 5th, 2003 4:31:40 PM

Rigging takes the proferred scroll and smiles broadly, "Of course you can count on the Sword of the Sea and her Wildcards. I believe you were correct when you said we are perfect for this mission. My wife being a sea elf is perfect for the negotiations. We will track down the Ironband or avenge her if needed."

Rigging clasps his hands behind his back and paces a few times back and forth. "Yes, I think
this mission is important. The minions of Ga'al are trying to spread his evil throughout the wold. We must stop him."

Rigging straightens up and says to the others, "OK Gentlemen, Let's get back to the ship and find our lost comrades."

Rigging performs a quick bow to Starr and heads out the door.

Bart
Monday May 5th, 2003 5:35:33 PM

We are the right crew indeed! Besides an elf in our ranks we also have a powerfull artefact that will help us to trace this ship. Maybe we can even find it right now! Do you want to give it at try Rigging?

Akerin
Monday May 5th, 2003 5:53:19 PM

"Hold, just a moment before we leave, if you will, Rigging," Akerin interjects politely. If Rigging acknowledges the request, the healer turns to the lady.

"Thank you for supplying the nautical maps and such, Starr. It seems to me a possibility that we may need to travel underwater in fulfillment of this quest. Have you any notion how we might go about finding any devices or other means to allow us to do so?"

Valanthe
Monday May 5th, 2003 11:00:39 PM

Val takes the opportunity to lounge and enjoy the luxury that the palace has to offer. It might be another year, or more, before she is in another place like this.

Redux
Monday May 5th, 2003 11:59:11 PM

It doesn't take much for Redux to see the value in getting some rest before he goes back to the tavern. He checks with the captain as to a good time to bring the feast on board and then heads out to make arrangements. He checks with the help of the palace first, thinking they might have some experience here on this island with putting on a banquet. Following their advice, he sets out to get some meat to roast, ale to drink and fixins to fill themselves with. Depending on the cost, he tries to find some entertainment (belly dancers, magician or the type) for a show. He finds a likely candidate from among the palace or tavern workers to make the arrangements for a few tables to be brought on board and to lay the spread out on the deck.

Ari
Tuesday May 6th, 2003 8:14:00 AM

Letting the others talk, but keeping an ear to the conversation. Ari scans around the local shop to see if there is any mention of the other Gods. Being reminded about the fact that there are other nations and lands out there, reminds him that there might be other gods. Ari is interested in trying to put the world together in an order that he understands.

Preparations-ADM Nellie
Tuesday May 6th, 2003 4:49:17 PM

Starr smiles at the Wildcard's exuberance. She raises an eyebrow in disbelief when Bart mentions having an artifact capable of locating the ship instantaneously, but lets the comment slide. At Akerin's question about underwater breathing ability, she frowns slightly. "Unfortunately, we will not be able to equip you with such magical items. However, I am told that there is a portal in the business section that can lead you to a store called the Catacombs where magical items might be purchased. It's the best I can do for you."

Starr catches the sun rays as they bounce off the table in front of her, and her genial manner changes almost instantly to a very business like tone. "Gentlemen, I have other business to attend to. You are welcome to enjoy the Scroll Repository as long as you would like, but I imagine there are more tempting pleasures to be found on Ayorsa Island. Good luck on your mission." The woman bows slightly and disappears out the main doors, leaving the Wildcard ambassadors alone in the Scroll Repository.

Meanwhile, as Valanthe, Appolo, and Ashira lounge at the palace, Redux puts himself to work organizing a feast for the crew. The captain eyes the young man critically, as though wondering whether the mage is up to funny business, but then informs Redux that it will take another full day before the Sword is fully outfitted. He suggests that the feast be served at dinner time, though he points out that it needs to be well before sunset since many of the crew will wish to spend there last night before the mission enjoying themselves on the island. Despite the late notice, Redux finds the palace help more than willing to aid with the food preparations, and the workings of a full blown feast are soon in order. Some of the Sword's hands watch curiously as the tables are loaded onto the main deck, but as word of the feast spreads, the work suddenly becomes easier as many willing hands lend themselves. As the time before the meal dwindles, the deck of the Sword swells with pirates, some of whom Redux isn't sure belong on the ship!

Rigging
Tuesday May 6th, 2003 5:39:46 PM

Rigging will lead the others back to the ship if they wish to head that way. When he sees the goings on he will gladly pitch in with Redux's preparations. "Redux, this is really fine. Entertainment, muscisians and dancers, but did you think to invite some of the fairer sex to the party? I am not deprived thanks to my beautiful wife but the men might be at sea for months."
Rigging gets a serious look on his face. He raises his hand to his chin and scratches it and an evil grin crosses his face. "Bart! Ari! I am giving you an official order! As the commander of the wildcards, you duty is to get 25 women to attend the party. If you fail in this mission, a horrible, terrible retribution will befall you! Now begone. Do not fail!"

Appolo
Tuesday May 6th, 2003 5:52:52 PM

Appolo wakes in the late afternoon gets up takes abathe puts on clean clothes shaves and generally cleans himself up. He then heads out to find Valanthe.Knocking on her door"Sunshine are you there? It's me Appolo. Can I come in?"

Redux
Tuesday May 6th, 2003 10:43:58 PM

A look of concern develops on Redux' face at the mention of the extra attendees. He hadn't planned for the few extra 'pirates' currently attending, but to add 1/3 more was more than he had planned. He becomes more flustered as the math and logistics run thru his mind. Thinking on his feet, the mage decides on adding some fish to the menu and more bread. He then sees the palace help for a small cask of wine to supplement the ale. As he tries to keep the event under budget, he begins to become worried about the antics that might occur during or after that might embarrass the captain and draw the wrath of the mayor or King. He wanders thru the crowd of crew, speaking to those he knows better and asks them to help control any who might be more rambunctious. With a sigh, he sits back to enjoy the feast.

Valanthe
Tuesday May 6th, 2003 10:44:19 PM

"I guess." Val says with playful sarcasm. She uncrosses her legs and slides off the bed. Quiet time is the only time Valanthe manages to find to work on her knew gifts. Considering she's a pirate, that doesn't come around all that often.

Ari
Wednesday May 7th, 2003 1:41:38 AM

Given the chance to peruse the scroll shop a little bit more, Ari surprises his wildcard friends by staying at the shop and quickly wandering up and down the isles to see what there is. Quickly he'll catalog his discoveries for later retrieval whenever the ship might next make port.

If Ari rejoins his crew prior to them discovering he's missing. He'll hear Riggings request and roll his eyes with what he's supposed to do. Hoping that everything else is taken care of, Ari would start going to all the common areas and approaching any group of women that he finds. Quickly he'd detail what is happening on the ship. Then he would invite the women down to the ship. ("The winners to the Wildcard treasure hunt are putting on a celebration feast for their ship, and the first 25 women that show up get in for free")

Rigging
Wednesday May 7th, 2003 9:55:05 AM

Seeing Redux's concerns, Rigging will head over to him and hand him 25 gps from his personal funds. He says, "Relax my friend, this should help cover any additional costs. Just make sure there is enough food and drink for all. We better have a good time now...for tomorrow we leave on a dangerous mission from which we might not return."

Appolo
Wednesday May 7th, 2003 11:00:18 AM

A bit confused by the strange answer Appolo thinks I guess as he enters the room."Are you ok,if you want to be alone I can go somewhere else."

Valanthe
Wednesday May 7th, 2003 10:09:55 PM

"That was sarcasm. I thought all pirates were trained in it's use . What can I do for you?" Valanthe asks.

Akerin
Thursday May 8th, 2003 1:45:41 AM

Thanking Starr for her suggestion to visit the portal to the Catacombs, he lets his companions know that is where he is heading.

Nellie
Thursday May 8th, 2003 8:37:09 AM

Sorry guys, my dial up line was down last night. I'll have a post up in a couple of hours.

Filler-ADM Nellie
Thursday May 8th, 2003 8:59:31 AM

With a little more effort (and thanks to the added gold!) Redux is able to procure enough food to feed the impending crowd. Tables are quickly set, and in the palace's kitchen delicious smelling food is quickly prepared for the feast which is set to occur in only a few more hours.

Not the kind to shirk a direct order from their leader, Ari and Bart scramble to find 25 females to attend the party. Most of the higher class women politely refuse to attend a festival thrown on a pirate ship (I wonder why?!), but after almost an hour of searching, the two wildcards are able to come up with 25 humans who roughly fit the description of being female.

A few moments after Appolo joins Valanthe in her room, a loud knock shakes their door. Too loud to ignore, the couple discovers an ace of Swords to be the source of the knocking. "Sorry to bother you, but the Captain requests your presence on the Sword." The young sailor looks slightly confused. "He said you was throw'n a party, and can't have the party unless you're there!"

After hearing rumors of the feast from the kitchen staff, Ashira makes her way to the ship. Beaming, she finds Redux as he directs the crew for the last minute preparations. "Such attention to detail! There's no doubt that you're the one who set up this shin dig! Wow, tables...I'm not sure if pirates are allowed to eat on tables, but I guess there's a first time for everything!" Ashira gives Redux a hearty pat on the shoulder. "You've done a great job here!" Her smile fades to a frown as Ari and Bart lead the women onto the ship. Making her way through the crowd, Ashira approaches the two. "And who's idea was this?!"

Akerin finds that he has plenty of time to make it to the Catacombs and purchase his items before the feast begins.

As you can probably guess, this is just a filler post to allow Appolo, Valanthe, and Akerin to be on board the ship before the feast occurs. I'll make another post tonight once everyone has stated whether they are on board the ship or not.---Nellie

Bart
Thursday May 8th, 2003 3:18:05 PM

When Bart is back at the ship he is polishing his sword and armor, brusg his clothes and cleans his boots

Akerin
Thursday May 8th, 2003 5:12:53 PM

Once Akerin is done with his business in the Catacombs, he heads back to the Sword of the Sea to join his mates. On one hand he is amused at the tack that the celebration appears to be taking. On the other, he is concerned, knowing that someone is bound to engage in foolish comportment at some point...

Rigging
Thursday May 8th, 2003 9:28:43 PM

Rigging is enjoying the start of the party. When he sees the Bart and Ari bring back the women, he thinks, "This is going to be fun. Should be interesting to see the men let lose."

Rigging notices his wife come on deck and then he sees her expression when she sees the girls,
"Uh Oh....maybe I didn't think this through."

He hurries over to Ashira and slips his arms around her waist. He will kiss the back of her neck and whisper in her ear. "Honey I didn't want the boys to pitch me into the sea in fits of jealous rage. Everyone knows that I have the most beautiful girl on the ship. They might want to eliminate the competition, so they can comfort the grieving widow. I was fearful for my life."

Rigging kisses the back of her neck again and continues, "I really thought it would lift the crews spirits. We are gonna be at sea for a while and this mission sounds like a challenge.
Thought we should celebrate our victory and blow off some steam at the same time."

He gives her another hug and says, "Should we find a seat?"

Appolo
Thursday May 8th, 2003 9:46:44 PM

Appolo looks at Valanthe then says"Well what do you want to do.I thought it would be nice to spend the night alone together."He says says this with handsome but sly smile on his face.

Valanthe
Thursday May 8th, 2003 10:43:38 PM

"We will have to make an appearence at the party. If not the captain may a little dissapointed. I doubt anybody will notice that we are gone after the party is in full swing."

Redux
Friday May 9th, 2003 1:47:41 AM

Redux refuses the extra gold from Rigging with a short word and a smile, "This comes out of the winnings anyways." He loads up a plate (wood of course, there won't be any broken china at this party!) and heads to one of the upper decks. He will watch the party and throw bits of meat in the air for Talon to catch. Seeing the 'extra' party goers, he remembers a crush he had a long time ago when he was ... about 7; her long, sweet smelling, brown hair. He wonders what may have ever happened to ... Anita. Some ruckus catches his attention and he is about to cast a web on the area when they settle back down. He muses, 'Wonderful spell, that one. The Lady V always did rebuke him about using it; but it always seemed to do its job and the faces of those captured were often hilarious.

Ari
Friday May 9th, 2003 3:19:46 AM

When Ari comes back with the women in tow, he's surprised a little bit when Ashira comes over and asks her question of him. On the verge of giving his answer, Riggings steps up and takes control of the situation. Ari relaxes and prays for the moment in which he can slip away and enjoy some more wine with the feasting that is going on.

Ashira
Friday May 9th, 2003 8:34:52 AM

Maintaining her frown as Rigging attempts to smooth things over, "And who says I would be a grieving widow?! I don't think this is a good idea. I mean, the men have all the time they want after dinner to entertain themselves however they want. But, what's done is done." Ashira relaxes, though she still doesn't looked thrilled about the women. Joining her husband, Ashira sits down at one of the tables.

Last Supper?-ADM Nellie
Friday May 9th, 2003 8:59:55 AM

Appolo and Valanthe push their way onto the packed deck of the Sword of the Seas and find a place at the head table set aside for the Wildcards. After all the Wildcards are seated, the Captain steps forward and quiets the pirates. "If ye don't know why we're hear, then ye don't belong on me ship!" Raucous laughter fills the air, though a few of the "extra's" aren't laughing as heartily as everyone else. "The Sword has plenty of reason to be proud tonight. Not only have our Wildcards one the prestigious Golden Rose trophy, but they decided to honor the hardest working pirates on the sea with this meal!" The evening air explodes with cheers. "Now mates, eat up, drink up, and enjoy yer selfs however ye want tonight. But ye better be fit for service at sunrise tomorrow or I'll keel haul you myself!" The Captain sits down, and in typical pirate style, everyone grabs for the food set in front of them, a few of the more "zealous" guests grappling with others in order to get to the choice pieces of meat.

The feast goes off without much of a hitch, though a brief brawl gives Redux time to consider casting Web. The menu is absolutely delicious, with roasted chicken, spicy potatoes, pudding, ale and all sorts of other delicacies not to be found while out at sea. The belly dancers supplied by Redux draw quiet a crowd, having a small fortune in gold piled at their feet by the end of their performance. One of the more talented members of the crew strikes up a tune with a fiddle, and several of the crew match themselves up with the women present. A rather large woman with what just might be the beginning of a beard approaches the muscular Bart. "Would you care to dance?" she asks as she makes her way over to the make shift dance floor.

Just as the party is in full swing, two towns guardsmen push their way through the crowd toward the Wildcard's table. "Which one of you is called Rigging?" a scar running down the side of his face makes the guard's scowl seem even more menacing as he waits impatiently for an answer.

Rigging
Friday May 9th, 2003 2:23:34 PM

Rigging enjoys the party. He drinks a little to much and eats way way to much. He decides to burn some of the food off by dancing. If she is willing, he will lead his beautiful wife out to the floor for a turn or two. He definitely does not look to hard at the belly dancers.

When the guardsmen show up and ask for him, he will sigh and whisper to Ashira, "Why does everyone always ask for me?" He will then stand up and bow, "I am Rigging my good men.
How can I be of service to you?"

Appolo
Friday May 9th, 2003 3:41:13 PM

After eating and drinking Appolo taps Valanthe and whispers in her ear"Come on let's quietly slip out of here.I want to be alone with you for awhile, let'a go back to our room at Jack's place,I'll grab some wine and stuff then we'll head out."

He getting ready to leave when the guards arrive and thinks great. He patiently sits and waits to see what happens.

Akerin
Friday May 9th, 2003 4:57:01 PM

Akerin enjoys the food and fun. He'll tell a story or two, and listen to others. He tries to get to know the crew better.

When the guards arrive, asking after Rigging, Akerin casually moves to a place on the deck between the docks and the town guardsmen, finishing up yet another leg of chicken. For someone so slender, he can really pack it away. He listens to their exchange with Rigging.

Bart
Saturday May 10th, 2003 7:29:57 AM

Bart also enjoys the meal the drink and last but not last the maidens. When the guardsman call for rigging he looks up to see what's goning on.

Valanthe
Sunday May 11th, 2003 10:23:08 PM

Valanthe was preparing to sneak away when the guards arrived. Just looking at them gave her a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach. She can't help but wonder if the Coppersworth wildcards set rigging up for something.

Redux  d20+4=22
Monday May 12th, 2003 12:46:18 AM

The mage is very proud of his crew for keeping their manners. The unexpected entrance of the guardsmen makes his heart sink. Was there something overlooked? Was it customary to invite the mayor or someone else to these events on this island? Why didn't anyone tell him?! What could these men want? Was there a fight he didn't know about? The mage hustles down to where they are and begins with "You fine gentlemen are of course invited to the party. Have some drink; there is food left on the table, but probably going fast," he says with a slight laugh. "What brings you to our ship?" (Diplomacy check=22)

Ari
Monday May 12th, 2003 3:56:21 AM

Intent on having his own relaxing time before the start of a new mission. Ari has found a little corner of paradise with the feast and a bottle of wine to enjoy on his own. Not really interested in the women that he brought on board, Ari wanders with his thoughts for a couple of minutes before noticing the guards.

Ashira
Monday May 12th, 2003 8:34:43 AM

The half-elf sweeps deftly across the deck as she dances with her husband. Thoughly enjoying herself, Ashira is slightly peeved when the guards show up. At Rigging's comment, she replies "Probably because you're the one who gets into the most trouble." Though outwardly calm, Ashira waits anxiously to find out what the guards want.

No Good Deed...-ADM Janell
Monday May 12th, 2003 9:01:13 AM

The guard practically snarls as Rigging identifies himself. "Oh, so you're the one that the fuss is all about. Hmmmph." The man snaps his fingers, and his partner steps forward with a small box in his hands. "Supper time and the Mayor's daughter says this package just has to be delivered to you tonight, no matter where you are. Do I look like a delivery man to you?! I swear, if I have to run one more errand for the little brat..." The guard trails on, but is interrupted by Redux. He eyes the slim mage coldly, but after the package is handed to Rigging, he makes his way to the nearest table, helping himself to a large portion of food, and a small one of ale. The guard's partner remains standing next to Rigging, waiting for something.

Unwrapping the delicate little box, Rigging finds a small note placed on top. It reads in childish script.

"Deer Mr. Rigging,
Thank you for saving my MiMi. You are my hearo. Mr. Bingle says you will like this. Daddy says your going away tomorrow. I will miss you.
Love, Rose."

Under the note, wrapped in delicate paper is a finely crafted hand sized sundial made of brass. The gnomon (the piece which juts up to cast the shadow) is shaped in the form of a rose, with the stem jutting outward, and the bud connecting it to the dial. The young guard standing by Rigging watches for his reaction, and then helps himself to some of the food before leaving with his partner.

Appolo
Monday May 12th, 2003 7:45:38 PM

Seeing things go well and that there is nothing wrong Appolo quietly takes Valanthes hand and gently pulls her away from the others"Let's go,now before anyhting else happens."

Valanthe
Monday May 12th, 2003 10:10:13 PM

Valanthe follows Appolo away from the others and the party. She couldn't resist one more night in that fabulous room.

Akerin
Monday May 12th, 2003 10:29:13 PM

"So, Rigging - what does the note say? Is that an example of craftsgnomeship?" Akerin asks the group's leader, nodding toward the sundial.

Rigging
Monday May 12th, 2003 11:24:20 PM

As the young mage turns the sundial over in his hand, a warm feeling spreads throughout his entire body and a happy smile crosses his face.
He hands the sundial to Ashira, "Look Honey, Isn't this beautiful?" He then grasps the remaining guard's hand in his two, and shakes it up and down. "Please thank young Rose. With her thoughtfulness and simple innocence, she has touched me deeply. I will treasure her gift always and have it mounted on the ship so all may enjoy it."

Rigging then wraps an arm around the young guardsmen shoulder and leads him to the table. He will personally fill a plate for him and hand him an ale. He will pick up his own mug and jump onto a chair. He shouts, "May I have everyones attention. I would like to propose a toast!" When everyone has settled down slightly and looking into his direction he will add, "Raise your mugs lads! I wish to propose a toast to the finest fighting ship in the pirates of the Jack! To the finest crew and smartest Captain! To our friend Redux, who has done such a nice job in organizing our feast! And to a little girl named Rose who courage and cuteness helped us win the scavenger hunt! Three cheers!"

Rigging takes a big gulp from his glass and jumps down from the chair. He hands the note to Akerin and says, "This is what we are fighting for." He slides an arm around Ashira's waist and pulls her in. "Isn't life grand?" he asks.

Appolo
Tuesday May 13th, 2003 1:03:36 AM

Meanwhile Appolo has quietly stolen away with Valanthe.

Ari
Tuesday May 13th, 2003 3:32:31 AM

Ari wonders about the role of the gods and how much things have changed since the family left town. Being of a contemplative mood Ari wonders about justice and how he might help bring justice to what the family does for the Pirates.

Ashira
Tuesday May 13th, 2003 8:49:27 AM

The half-elf smiles at her husband and his response to the gift. It was moments like these that made life bareable. Motioning toward the box, Ashira grins mischieviously. "Should I be concerned about this? Looks like you have a new suitor."

Sailing, Sailing-ADM Nellie
Tuesday May 13th, 2003 9:14:29 AM

Mostly half drunk, the crew of the Sword roars with approval at Rigging's words. A few of the more rowdy hands pick up Redux and start carrying him on their shoulders across the deck.

The party breaks up shortly after the guards departure, with many of the pirates deciding to spend their last few hours enjoying the various pleasures of Ayorsa island. The retreating pirates leave quite a mess behind, but the ship's mage is able to accomplish the clean up quickly with the aid of some unseen servants. Redux is able to return all of the borrowed items from the Jack's palace with plenty of time left over to enjoy himself.

The Wildcard's find various ways to spend their last night on the island, and before they know it, the sun is about to break. Everyone boards the vessel, and precisely at sunrise, the Sword of the Seas sets up on its new mission. Once free of the harbor, the captain turns to Rigging. "I suppose ye be wanting to use yer little toy to plot our course?"

Akerin
Tuesday May 13th, 2003 11:33:25 AM

Shortly after joining in the cheer with Rigging and the crew, Akerin checks on his 22-foot boat. As before, he makes arrangements with the captain to tie it with a few ropes to the stern of The Sword of the Sea. He has also refreshed the water and provisions on the small but sea-worthy boat.

He is glad to be heading back out to open waters with the small group of people whom he considers his friends. And prays for Alemi's guidance and protection.

Rigging
Tuesday May 13th, 2003 5:50:55 PM

Rigging enjoys his last night in port, but he is glad to be going back to sea. Somehow things seem simplier when he feels the saltspray on his cheeks. When questioned by his Captian, he will respond, "Captain, I am more than willing to use the artifacts I carry to help with the search." A quick, sly grin crosses Rigging's face and he continues. "Of course, if you would like to try Wayfinder for yourself, I will be glad to let you borrow it. They feeling of having your soul ripped from your body doesn't hurt to much. Knowing it might get lost, never to return, isn't much of a distraction. Of course the possibility of having your health wrecked even temporarily...I don't think it is permanant....would be no concern for a man of your bravery. So when would you like to try it?" The young man as brightly.

If the Captain refrains, Rigging will find a comfortable place and gather Ashira and Redux around him. I am going to try to use Wayfinder to help locate the missing ship. Please let know one take it from me. Rigging will then settle back and bring the telescope to his eye. "Show me the Ironbanks." Rigging will take careful note in which direction that he heads so he can inform the Captain which direction to go.

Ashira
Tuesday May 13th, 2003 11:55:06 PM

The half-elf nods at her husband's suggestion and sets herself on watch. Although she secretly distrusts the artifact, Ashira hopes that Rigging knows what he's doing.

The Captain gives Rigging an odd look. "No lad, I wouldn't want to be accused of taking yer toy away from ye. Ye do the honors."

Rigging settles in and puts Wayfinder to use. Suddenly ripped from his body, his spirit screams over the ocean waves. Though extremely nauseating and disorienting, Rigging finds that he has become a little more accustomed to this form of travel. In the blink of an eye, Rigging finds himself floating before a small island. A large ship lays on her side. Rigging's form moves closer to the ship and he notes the Ironbank's name on the side. Huge numbers of badly decaying bodies are piled up on deck. Apparently a terrible battle has taken place on the vessel. Rigging's form floats over the carnage for a few seconds before it begins its breathtaking journey back to his body. As he returns to consciousness, Rigging believes he can plot a course to the ill fated ship.

As Ashira and Redux look on, Rigging's form begins to shake and convulse. It rises in intensity and then ends abruptly. Drenched in sweat, Rigging removes Wayfinder from his eye, thoroughly exhausted from the effort.

Rigging
Wednesday May 14th, 2003 6:36:15 AM

Rigging slowly puts the telescope away and staggers over to the Captain. He gives him the direction to travel but adds, "The ship is destroyed and beached on a small island. Looks like the crew is dead. I didn't notice anyone still living but someone could be shipwrecked on the island. I suggest we start doing repel border drills. Looks like we are in for some action." Rigging's knees buckle but he catches himself. Rigging then straightens up and adds with some dignity. "By your leave Captain, I think I will take to my bunk for the rest of the morning. The young mage staggers below deck for some needed rest.

After seeing to Rigging, Ashira reluctantly heads up top to see if her services are needed.

Thursday May 15th, 2003 9:42:15 PM

Merging the information from Rigging and the nautical maps provided by Starr, the Captain estimates that it will take between a week and a half to three weeks to arrive at the island, depending on the weather. Rigging's report about the probable fate of the Ironbank's crew draws a grimace from the Captain, and he nods at the Wildcard's suggestion for repelling drills. He looks up at Rigging's weary form (Rigging, you lost 3 Con. points from use of the Wayfinder) "Ye did a good job lad, now go get ye some rest.". Looking more resolved than you've seen in a while, the Captain glares at the rest of the crew. "As for the rest of ye, get to work! We aint got no time to loose!"

Though the Captain remains in an ill mood the rest of the day, the conditions couldn't be more conducive to sailing. With the wind full in the sails, and the water's crystal clear, it's the kind of day that makes you glad to be alive and free. A small school of dolphins dances in the waves next to the ship, practically begging the Sword's crew to come play with them. Spot check for those of you above decks, please

Ok folks, I'll give you the next two days to post what you'd like to be doing during the journey. Wanna copy some scrolls, say so. Wanna try and create a wand, go right ahead. Rigging will go down below and rest for a few hours. He will then get something to eat and come back up on deck. He will pull out Nautacolus and activate it to help propel the ship even faster towards their goal. He will direct the winds behind the sails and say to the Captain, "I wouldn't worry about tacking for a while anyway. I think you will find the winds friendly."

Rigging will keep and eye out on the sails but pull open his spellbooks and start memorizing his more combative spell selection. Once he is finished with that he will find Redux and go over his spell selection and see what the other mage in the group is memorizing.

Akerin - Shopping / making?

[Back on shore, then, Akerin had a question for the group.]

"I may be able to put together a wand or two that could help us on our task. A wand of water breathing I'm investigating - and could possibly craft one. I would need about 3,000 more gold pieces for the ingredients. I have what is necessary, as well, for a wand of endurance." He waits to see if some members of the party think that the wand of water breathing would be something they could contribute toward.

Ari spends the next couple of days in contemplation about where the Wildcards are going. He's been thinking about how he fits in the world. Wondering what the pirates are really here to accomplish, Ari spends time trying to find out what he can about the other gods.

Hearing about Akerin's request Ari comments, "I can come up with 2000 for you. But we'd have to figure out how to get the gold from the priests, as I have not been carrying it with me."

Monday May 19th, 2003 12:01:08 PM

[OOC: Since Nellie let us know that we can assume the Catacombs portion of our shopping was done before we left shore, Ari should be able to get his funds from the priests.]

Akerin puts his arms around Ari and Appolo as they offer him the needed funds for the wand of water breathing. "You guys are the best. Thank you."

Akerin will explain to the captain his need to focus on the task of crafting the wand, with the object in mind that it may be necessary to go underwater to pursue those who downed the crew of the Ironband. "I'll be back on my own boat as I work on the wand, about eight hours a day. It'll take about 12 days, and I won't be available for other work on board. It will be a matter of eating, sleeping, and working on the wand."

He sets himself up on his 22' craft, which The Sword of the Sea tows behind her. He opens each day with prayers of worship, devotion, adoration, and intercession to Alemi. He reads from the Book of Hours, has a breakfast, then sets to work on his wand. At midday he spends about 15 minutes going through a light stretching routine in order to keep limber, enjoys a light lunch, then resumes his work on the wand.

He has a covered basin of sea water belowdecks where he keeps the wand when not actively working on it.

At the end of the day of working on the wand, he spends a little time writing notes about his work in a journal, along with other thoughts which may occur to him. He sleeps on his own craft. After a few days of this, he really begins to miss the companionship of his friends, yet knows he must stick with this task, once begun.

Redux
Monday May 19th, 2003 11:17:26 PM

(ooc Sorry for the time away; work was rough last week, with a co-worker on vacation and then i was under the weather.)

Redux remains quiet, as he often is at the beginning of a journey aboard the ship, but attends to Rigging and to his spells. It takes some time to get his sea legs back but is better and more willing to lend a hand. He isn't very good at taking care of a ship, but he lends a hand making minor repairs to the sails and other equipment with his magic (Mending). During the trip, Redux will set aside time to make 2 5th level scrolls of Fireball, one of Read Magic and one of Detect Magic.

He asks Rigging to set with him at a separate time to look into their spell lists. He explains that he has tried to keep things for the party on hand in scroll or potion form. He has the wand of Bull Strength, so there would be no need for anyone to memorize that one for quite a while. He can also make a few members invisible with potion or scroll. For battles, he likes effects that take down more than one person or thing, like Fire Ball, Web or Ghoul Touch. Then use Magic Missles or Lightning bolt for the strong ones that are making the most trouble for us. Trying to do the most damage while staying out of the fray is the hardest part, he adds with a laugh.

"My life is dangerous for the ones around me, I'm not sure I should ask and animal to join in the insanity." she thinks forlornly. Ashira watches as Redux and Rigging talk shop about magic. Finally bored with her contemplative mood, Ashira joins Bart, trying to give him the sparring match of his life.

The crew of the Sword of the Seas hops to business, moving with a speed and efficiency that many a galley would dream of. Though the Captain does not look pleased at Akerin's decision to craft a wand, he does not interfere with the monk either. The Wildcard's are left to their own devises for the time being, while the rest of the crew concentrate on using the good winds to their full advantage.

Rigging
Monday May 19th, 2003 11:38:25 PM

Rigging will ask Akerin how much he needs after the others contribute. "I have been saving for some interesting magic items, so I am being frugal with my money but having a wand of water breathing along with an aquatic elf wife is a good combination.

Rigging will then start looking at his spells again making some changes in what he has memorized. He is getting ready for combat.

Rigging will see Ari sitting by himself. He will grab a couple of apples from the galley and toss one to Ari as he walks up. He will plunk down next to him and smile, "We haven't had a chat in a while. Everything ok with you?"
Rigging sits back, stretching his arms up around his head. "I tell you, the Wayfinder really takes it out of me." He will take a bite from the fruit and chew for a minute.

"So what do you think of our next mission. Seems to me that we are getting away from our primary mission of attacking Ga'al. I think we need a good old raid on a temple and spilling some Ga'al priesthood blood. This politic stuff is wearing me down. We also have some of the cure we need to think about dispensing. So many roads ahead. Which do you think we should travel?"

Thursday May 22nd, 2003 1:49:49 PM

Those who practice the arcane and divine arts keep themselves very busy on the voyage.
Having had no problems securing the ivory wand on Ayorsa island, Akerin undertakes the task of crafting into a wand of water breathing. Although he has a few difficulties in the beginning, Akerin has more than enough time, and soon has a very impressive looking new wand. Redux likewise spends much time in contemplation and study as he copies his scrolls. And Rigging spends quite a bit of time working on the intricacies of his combat spells.

The rest of the Wildcards find that they too have little time for social interests as the Captain takes Rigging up on his advice, having endless border repelling drills and hand to hand fighting. Obviously the most skilled, the Wildcards function both as mentors and practice partners for the rest of the crew. Between all the drills and keeping the ship on course, there is barely enough time for shut eye.

The voyage takes a little longer than expected, but by the second week, the cry of "Land Ho" is heard as you approach the island. The joy of spotting your objective is quickly squelched as you see a particularly nasty looking storm rapidly approaching the Sword of the Seas. Acting quickly, the crew are able to furl the sails, stow the mast, and batten all the hatches before the storm washes over the Sword. However, all are soon subjected to the furry of nature as huge waves wash over the deck and gale force winds rip at your skin. Please state your location on the ship, as well as making a Dexterity check DC 15 to remain standing.

The situation is much different on Akerin's craft. Pounded relentlessly by the waves, the small vessel is soon torn away from the Sword. Tossed two and fro, the vessel slams into debris stirred up by the storm, and the vessel begins to pitch badly from the resulting damage.

As soon as he sees the storm arising, and as others work to prepare the Sword, Akerin, who always leaves his seaworthy 22' craft in good shape, moves to his little boat, to double check that all is battened down. With land in sight, he empties all but a few gallons of the drinking water, sealing the containers to provide some flotation should the need arise. Likewise he checks the bladders and air-filled waterskins he has tucked away in nooks and crannies about the boat.

As the wind and waves increase, he tethers himself on a line, and unships a set of oars. His main concern is to keep the bow perpendicular to the waves, and, with all that, to move his craft toward shore.

At one point, after a pair of waves conjoin, washing over the boat, he almost thinks he'll be washed from his perch, despite the toe holds. But the rope and his position keep him in place (dex check, augmented with +4 from rope use, to keep from being washed over, 21).

However, blinded by the waves, he is not able to move out of the way of some debris, which he hears bashing the side of his boat, crunching a portion.

The storm continues to ravage both the Sword and Akerin's small vessel. Due to the larger crew, the Sword of the Seas seems to be fairing the foul weather fairly well, though so far, four crew members have been washed overboard by the gigantic waves.

Akerin's vessel, however, seems to be in dire danger of sinking. As Akerin struggles to keep the boat afloat and get it to safety, he comes to the sudden realization the storm has driven him right beside the Sword! The waves swell again, and the small craft is smashed into the side of the huge Sword, and takes even more damage. Though groaning in protest at the extreme operating conditions, it would appear that Akerin's requests for divine intervention may have been granted.

Back on the Sword... While Rigging, Valanthe, Bart and Appolo seem to be fairing well, Ari, Redux and Ashira slip and slid around on the worlds most deadly water park. Redux, smart enough to head down below smashes into the bulkhead and likewise takes 2 hp of damage. Ari slams into the mast, and takes 2 hp of damage. He continues to slide across the slippery deck, and plunges into the cold ocean water. Thinking quickly, he begins to swim toward the surface (Swim check success...yay!) and breaks the water's surface (Fort. check -6 DC 15 to clamber back aboard the ship, please). Ari tries and keep pace with the fast moving Sword, while taking a look around. Though he doesn't notice Ashira and Appolo's efforts, he does spot a ship mate going under nearby him (Sorry, no climb check, nice idea though).

Valanthe finds it a little more difficult to keep her balance this round, and smashes into one of the masts, taking 4 hp of damage, though she consoles herself with the fact that she is lucky enough to stay aboard the Sword.

Having second thoughts about the wisdom of webbing himself inside the room, Redux takes another tumble, and smacks into a nearby chair, taking 2 hp of damage.

No longer tied down to his boat, Akerin finds it much more difficult to keep his footing, and slides into the railing on his ship, taking a measly 1 hp of damage. Slipping and sliding on the deck, Akerin is unable to throw the chain, but somehow manages to avoid plunging into the ocean.

As the storm rages around him, Rigging keeps his cool, and continues to guide the Sword toward the rapidly approaching island. The Captain approaches Rigging, and asks that the young man beach the ship. Due to his superior nautical skills, and with a little help from the Nauticulus, Rigging expertly rams the ship onto the sandy beach. Reflex save DC 15 for all those aboard either ship, or take d6 damage from the sudden collision with the land.

Appolo, Ashira, Ari, and the other crew members washed overboard panic as the Sword disappears from view, but are relieved when they spot land nearby. Keep those swim checks coming. :)

Sorry folks, I was ill yesterday. I'll try to catch up if we can. It would be helpful, however if you would send me updated copies of your character sheets (nellieknotts@earthlink.net). I sense more danger heading our way. ;)---Nellie

Akerin is grateful for Bart's outstretched arm as he slides along the deck. No doubt due to the fighter's assistance, Akerin only suffers one hp damage as one shoulder slams just a wee bit firmly into the shore. Getting to his feet, he begins to pull his boat closer in to shore, and a little away from the Sword, lest the larger boat crunch with the incoming waves against the smaller.

"Alemi, thank thee for thy salvation from the storm!" Yet, wanting to ensure that all are safe, he asks if any went down, or are unaccounted for. If so, he uses the wand of water breathing on himself, effecting any nearby who also would want to be able to breathe under the waves. (Can affect up to five people, including himself, with ten hours of water breathing divided among those who benefit. So, if three take it, each can breathe under water for 3 hours 20 minutes. Five, each for two hours.) He takes off what items are not essential for the task, and begins to search. [Spot 20.]

Several of the crew are tossed about as Rigging beaches the ship. Valanthe takes 3 hp of damage as she once again smashes into the mast, and a bruise begins to form on her arm.

Akerin enables several other Sword crew members to breath underwater, and a search party heads out in the waves. Due to his quick thinking, and the bravery of the crew, all of those thrown overboard are brought safely to shore, including Appolo, Ashira, and Ari.

The crew of the Sword seek out shelter on the large, immobile vessel as the storm continues to pound against the island for another couple of hours. The Captain approaches Rigging as they wait, a huge grin on his face. "Lad, that be quick thinking ye did out there. Ye're gonna make a fine Captain soon!" The large man slaps Rigging hard on the shoulder and then checks on the other crew members.

After the storm passes a search party is formed and the surrounding area is quickly combed. The island is densely vegetated, and looks like it could yield food for about half the crew for a short period. The serenity and beauty of the place is offset when the wreckage of the Ironbanks is discovered close by. The nauseating scent of rotting flesh fills the otherwise sweet scented air, and a few birds of prey appear to be munching on top of the deck.

The Captain grimaces at the sight and pulls Rigging aside. "This be worse than I expected. We need to know what happened to the 'Banks, and I only know one way of doing that. Gather ye're Wildcards and search that ship. See if ye can find something useful...maybe the logbook will tell us something. We gotta know what we're up against."

He will then borrow some of Ashira's perfume and sprinkle some on each of the rags. "Honey, I will replace it when we get back to the city." he apologizes. I think the smell might get overpowering and this might help. "Everyone get what you need to go exploring. We leave in 15 minutes."

The thought of the smell is nothing to look forward to, but he would like the opportunity to do some research (might even animate one of them-but that is too much to hope for). As he joins the others he notices Ashira in her armor. It does look good on her; he chuckles as he remembers that Val was still on the hook for what happened to it. "Ashira...about that armor." And he assures her of its new protective ability. He sends Talon aloft to keep an eye above them and takes his place to the rear of the marching order.

With a wink toward Redux, Ashira heads toward the Ironbanks with the others.

While most accept the scented scarfs, a few decide to go it on their own. The wisdom or lack there of is soon proven once the Wildcards scale up the side of the Ironbanks. The stench from endless numbers of rotting is truly gut wrenching. Those who chose to reject the scarves, please make a Fort check DC 15 to avoid spilling the contents of your stomach.

The birds of prey that were previously spotted scatter as soon as the Wildcards reach the top of the deck, apparently preferring to feast in private. It's a truly horrific scene on the deck, with scores and scores of humanoid bodies in various states of decomposition. Though one thing is perfectly clear...these Pirates did not die of natural causes. Several have bludgeoning type wounds around the head, and a few seem to have meet their ends on the end of some type of three pronged piercing weapon.

After a thorough search of the upper deck, you are unable to gather much more useful information. The hatch that leads down below practically beckons you to the dark recesses beyond.

Looking around the deck Ari wonders how the stench could be so powerful after having the storm wash away so many things.

Having no problems dealing with the stench, Ari smirks at Riggings as if to say 'see, no problem'. Ari then decides to look a little closer to see whether the Pirates had a chance to fight, or whether they were somehow caught off guard, or whether they had surrendered and had been killed anyway.

Looking at Riggings for a sec Ari comments, "Should we send a quick message back to the captain and let him know that the crew was attacked. I wouldn't want anyone to take advantage of seeing us depart the ship, and trying to come back to the ship looking like us"

There were too many vultures around for that but he is still cautious and will look around. He will then go over to the hatch and listen very closely for any movement down in the darkness.

He will call the group over and tell them to be ready. "I am going to cast a light down into the hold and see what we can see." Rigging will then cast a dancing lights spell and direct the lights down into the hold.

Underneath the scarf, Redux' nose is curled up. Hs eyes give testimony to the fact that this is truly a grisly scene; battle with such weaponry seldom is. While he is interested in treasure, he's curious if these corpses hold weapons that may be used if given a second un-life.

To Rigging: "Right." To Talon: 'The bigger birds are gone. Come on down for a quick mouthful and then its off to the ship to give the Captain a message.'

Scrawling down a quick note to let the Captain know the results of their search so far (as well as warning him of ambush), Talon scoops down and snags a fish before he heads back to the Sword of the Seas.

Akerin's and Redux's examination of the corpses yield some interesting conclusions. Much to Redux's disappointment, all of the bodies have had their valuables removes. Interestingly enough, a few swords and such are still in the clutches of the dead sailors. Looks like someone selectively picked over the bodies. Akerin finds that there are primarily two causes of death amoung the crew. A few seem to have met their ends due to blunt force trauma to the head...doesn't look like they even saw it coming. By far the rest of the crew met their end in combat.

As most of the Wildcards descend into belly of the ship, Val and Redux decide to post guard up top.

The hallway down below is fairly large, allowing three people to walk abreast, and, heaven forbid...two people to fight side by side. As most of the Wildcards enter into the hallway, you notice several doors that would presumably lead to various crew members quarters. A large painting of a naked Elven woman seductively straddling a tiger can be seen inside the nearest room.

Down here, as up above, the stench of death is pronounce, though perhaps to a lesser degree (Fort save DC 10 for those without scarves). Even more noticeable than on the top deck is the fact that the Ironbanks is listing heavily. Though it doesn't affect your footing, the tilting floor makes the whole corridor seem to shrink in on itself.

More interesting than the decor of the ship, however is the sight of two large creatures at the far end of the ship. From their positions in the front of the group, Rigging and Ashira can see the distinct form of two sharks. Curiously enough though, the odd creatures seem to have sprouted legs!!! Even more strange is the fact that they are not underwater!!! The nasty little beasts root around in the large room, smashing into miscellaneous furniture here and there. As the party enters the main hallway, the creatures begin to sniff the air, and turn to face the party. Their mouths part to show their rows of razor sharp teeth as they begin to shuffle toward the group. A rotting leg drops from one of the creatures mouth and it snaps its jaws ominously.

He is puzzled by Rigging's notion of surrounding something that is down here, but climbing back up on deck. So, he goes with what he thinks to be Rigging's main intention - to surround them. Thus, he esconds himself to the side, going all the way back to the side of the hull, and glancing rightward, seeing if there is enough room for him to squeeze himself (forward? aft?) in that direction. On the main deck of the Ironbanks, Val keeps good watch, while Redux busies himself disarming the corpses. Several of the corpses grips are stiffened by rigor mortis, but other than that, Redux has an easy time of disarming the dead pirates. After a few minutes he spots the familiar form of Talon winging his way back to him.

As Rigging orders a retreat down below, Appolo fires of his shot, and amazingly manages to miss his partners standing in front of him. His arrow nicks the shark creature just below its eye before he joins Val and Redux up on the main deck.

Confused by Rigging's order, Akerin moves forward to try and surround the creature. He is able to close the distance with the creatures, but not quite able to scoot around them (your move rate is 50 ft... it would take approx. 75 ft. to get behind the creatures. Each square on the map is 5 ft...sorry for not explaining that before). Having positioned himself between the creatures and his team mates, Akerin casts Sanctuary on himself.

Having the advantage of being on the ceiling, Ari moves down the hall to help out Akerin, but is unable to attack the creatures this round.

Ashira makes her move and positions herself to lend assistance to Akerin.

Bart, apparently stunned by the sight, stands motionless in the hallway.

Eyes glinting dully in the soft light provided by Rigging's dancing lights, the creatures move forward and engage Akerin and Ashira. The shark creature on the left (S1)leans forward and snaps its huge jaws at Akerin's face, barely missing the monk. It would appear that the beast has shrugged off Akerin's spell. 'You got that Talon? Let us know if anything moves up here and stay away from those big birds.' Redux completes the dispersal of the swords he has and then hustles back to the hatch. (Talon listen=18, spot=14)

Akerin tumbles expertly between the legs of the first shark creature and into the room beyond. Unfortunately, his tumble draws an attack of opportunity from the freakish beast, but once again, the big lug is unable to connect with the agile monk. The large room was apparently quite lavishly decorated at one point in time...though the shark creatures have pretty much destroyed the place. A skeleton lying on a large, posh bed sports a smashed skull. Nearby the skeleton, a large leather bound book lies face down on the wooden planks.

Akerin's departure leaves plenty of room from Bart to fill in the gap. Since he has to travel such a large distance, Bart is unable to attack this round (You can use that awesome roll next round if you want. :)).

Distracted by her wound, Ashira launches a mostly ineffective attack, managing to only connect with her shortsword. Rigging does a better job with his magic missiles, though the creature shrugs off the combined damage as if it was inconsequential.

From his position above the creatures (I didn't understand your last post, so Ari is now up front with Bart and Ashira...you may move back to the port this round if you wish), Ari finds it no problem to take a couple of swathes out of the creature's head, slicing through the rubbery skin.

Redux senses the danger faced by the rest of the party, and quickly finishes up his clean up detail. As he heads back to the port, Redux hears the unmistakable sounds of fierce combat.

Beginning to drool, the shark creatures launch themselves at the Wildcards once more. The large creature in front of Bart latches onto his armor and crunches with its massive teeth. The crushing force badly dents Bart's armor, and causes 13 hp of damage as a few of the teeth cut break free from the armor and slice into Bart's side. Ashira's opponent overextends its huge torso, and crunches down on thin air.

Akerin, glancing left and right in the area of the bow, casts comprehend languages, then asks, looking at the backs of the sharkmen, "Are you the ones who killed the people on this ship? If not, do you know who did?"

He holds his hands spread out just a bit from his sides, indicating he holds nothing in his hands. He is prepared to use total defense (AC 23) should they clearly move to attack him, and will attempt to tumble past them. [Sanctuary is not in effect for the one to the left of the map, who already made his Will save vs. the spell, but the one to the right - starboard - has not yet made a save, I believe.]

Ari and Bart continue to slice away at the shark creatures as Ashira makes her retreat. As Rigging's missiles burn into S2's chest, Ari opens another nice gash in its head. Meanwhile, Bart hacks into his opponent (S1)doing some serious damage.

Redux and Appolo drop in for reinforcement as Akerin attempts to reason with the beasts.

Landshark #1, unmoved by Akerin's query, launches itself toward Bart once more. It's nasty jaws rip and slice at Bart's sword arm, ripping out a sizable chunk (16hp dam) and leaving a couple of pointy teeth in the wound. Finding itself temporarily without a meal, Landshark #2's eyes turn greedily toward the talkative Akerin. He rears back for an attack, but stops in mid air, and quickly backs away from the cleric. Looking Akerin full in the face, the creature speaks in a language that sounds a lot like grinding teeth. Oddly though, Akerin can not understand what the creature seems to be saying.

Sorry Ari, these creatures are not evil. :(

Tuesday June 17th, 2003 2:52:29 AM

"Stop attacking him!" Akerin says. He interposes himself between the sharkman and his friends. "He is trying to say something!"

To the sharkman, the healer says, "I cannot understand your tongue - but, if I can touch you, or if you will touch me, then we can speak together. If you do not harm me, I will ask my friends to back off."

As he talks, he touches his own mouth and his ear, and his hand. He steps forward, in a non-threatening manner, and holds out his left hand, indicating to the embattled creature that he himself means no harm, and, if the sharkman would touch him, perhaps they will understand each other. He lowers his sanctuary spell, so the sharkman may be free to choose. If the sharkman looks like it wants to edge away, Akerin still keeps himself between the toothy critter and his friends, but allows it to move.

With one solid blow, Bart plants his sword into the creatures chest (S1). Blood begins to bubble out of its mouth, and it slumps lifelessly to the ground. Bart moves to engage with the other landshark (S2), but must wait until next round to attack.

Seeing that Bart has downed his opponent, Ari walks along the ceiling to the second landshark (S2) and takes a slice out of crime. The creature's dark eyes widen as it locates its attacker on the ceiling.

Both Rigging and Redux find their victim is already dispatched, and so save their spells for later (can't launch them at S2 since you can't see him right now).

Meanwhile, Akerin continues to try and reason with the sole surviving beast who is surrounded by Ari and Bart. Unable to position himself between his teammates and the creature, Akerin settles for words and non threatening movements, hoping that they can do the job.

Landshark #2 shakes its head at Akerin's words, and launches himself toward the bleeding warrior with the big nasty sword (Bart). Switching tactics, the creature lunges low and rips at Bart's leg (15 hp damage).

Akerin takes the net from off his hip and casts it over the landshark (ranged touch attack AC 26). "Sit on it! Grab the rope! Hold it down! If I can talk with the creature, perhaps we will learn more than we now know." He pulls on the rope, bringing himself in close to it, slipping past Bart, the only other person on the deck [I assume Ari cannot really block Akerin's passage, since Ari is on the ceiling], and touching the beast (touch, AC 19 - natural armor does not count toward landshark's AC). "Stop, and live. Attack, and die." He hopes that Bart and perhaps others can add considerable muscle to keeping the bedentured sharkman under control. Bloodied themselves, though, he cannot determine their actions.

He realizes his friends are wounded, and expects soon to heal them. Grant wisdom, Alemi.

He is sure that there is to be some discussion in the near future. His heart aches for all those who were slain on the Ironbanks.

'Oh, Alemi, how many are fallen. And how much more blood need be shed?' he asks his god in silent prayer. 'What role would you have me play in situations similar to this one?'

Ashira
Thursday June 19th, 2003 8:53:13 AM

Ashira smiles at her husband's ability to think through his anger. She turns toward Bart as Akerin is healing him. "You know, Bart, if you had followed Rigging's directions, the battle would have been a lot easier. You don't always have to do it on your own." She looks at Akerin, and decides she can't find any civil words for the monk right now.

Ari

Having not seen these sharkmen before, Ari will poke and prod and make some quick notes. Hearing the word to go back to the ship, Ari glances around the room one last time for any other clues.

Ari assumes that the sharkmen were more of scavengers, rather than anything to really do with the attack on the ship.

"I think it understood me, but I did not yet understand what it was saying," Akerin answers Bart. "Consider - we initiated the attack on these, these sharkmen. Perhaps attacking them on sight was a good thing. Perhaps it was not. Yes, one was eating the decomposing leg of a crew member. I say we acted out of fear. Must combat be our first resort?"

He turns toward Ashira. "You were wounded, as was Bart. Others could have been. Why did I not attack, so as to reduce the risk to you and others? Ashira, you are holding back words, and I sense you are angry at me. Please, tell me what is on your mind. Do not withhold your rebuke." He listens fully and attentively to what she or others may have to say.

Valanthe
Friday June 20th, 2003 8:14:14 AM

Valanthe smiles as Appolo skips away. He knows that she has a weakness for that wine. She glances briefly at Akerin. They will have bad days where battles don't turn out right, it happens. Maybe this situation hit a little closer to home for Akerin.

Ashira
Sunday June 22nd, 2003 11:11:23 PM

Ashira takes a deep breath and turns to face Akerin. "Yes, I am very angry. What you did out there was very fool hardy, and could have gotten others hurt. I think far too often you act on your own initiate without thinking what it could do to the group. Perhaps you have been on your own too long... Charging in like you did forced Ari and Bart to stay behind to deal with the threat while you did...whatever it is that you were trying to do. Do you realize that if Alemi hadn't been watching over us, you quite possibly could have gotten Bart killed?!" Ashira takes another deep breath as she tries to compose herself. "I'm sure you had a good idea, but you have to think of the team too. That was a bad situation that we could have turned to our advantage had we just listened to Rigging's orders. Luckily for us it turned out alright, but how about next time?"

Nothing Like a Good Book-ADM Nellie
Sunday June 22nd, 2003 11:27:19 PM

Redux opens the door only to be overcome by the smell from inside the room. One quick look inside the room leads Redux to the undeniable conclusion that this was the ships head. The stench from the room makes the smell of rotting flesh from the rest of the room seem tame.

Rigging inspects the book in his hands, and believes that he has indeed found the Ironbank's logbook.

After his brief look around the room, Ari finds nothing particularly interesting. His brief investigation does indeed seem to support the conclusion that the sharkmen were mere scavengers, and probably not the source of the attack on the Ironbanks.

As various of the Wildcards discuss their feelings about the recent combat, the party rejoins with each other and heads back to the Sword. Once back on board, Rigging opens up the log, only to find that it has been badly damaged, with several missing pages, and a few dark stains that are probably blood. Toward the back of the log, Rigging finds an entry made in very different handwriting from the rest of the log. It reads as follows:

"Sea devils bested us...(big stain). Captain dead, most of crew gone. Got off a few boats...(ripped page). Will try to find shelter and await...(shark footprint)."

Rigging
Monday June 23rd, 2003 4:24:03 PM

Rigging will go report to the Captain. Explain about the legged shark creatures and have him warn the crew to be careful. He also explains about the logbook and mention that their might be surviviors in lifeboats and around the island.

Rigging will then gather his wife to him and tell her. "Have everyone stay away for a while. I am going to use Nautacolus to explore the waters around here. Might get a clue on what kind of monsters and other nasty's are in the area."

Rigging will activate the artifact and learn about the surrounding 20 miles of ocean using the island as a center point.

Ashira don't be so hard on Akerin, I think he knows his action wasn't well thougt over, he acted in an impulse. Mine was a bit late i was flabbergasted I'm to blame also. But Akerin next time left a spot for me in the front rank, so i can fight to protect you and the rest and you can help us with a spell a healing or if there is place and opportunity use your weapon. But remeber this is a guideline and a guideline only, circumstances can make that you have to do it an other way as i just said

Redux
Tuesday June 24th, 2003 1:32:24 AM

Redux follows the others back to the ship, carrying his load of weapons from the former crew of the Ironbanks (sharing the burden with anyone willing to help). When he overhears Rigging's next use for the Nautacolus he wonders if there will be any way to tell where the lifeboats might have gone with survivors. Rigging'll know best about what the signs mean.

He goes over to Bart and the other fighters to discuss tactics. "I was wondering if there was some way to signal you that I was about to try to Fire Ball the bad guys in a fight. I really don't want to burn your hair, but it is a quick way to even the odds a bit. If we had a signal, you could get defensive and withdraw while I hit them. If we catch them by surprise or in a group, I could lend more to the fight. What do you think?"

Akerin
Tuesday June 24th, 2003 3:28:19 AM

Akerin listens soberly to Ashira.

"You are right, Ashira. It is very well possible that, had I gone up on the deck rather than trying to surround the shark things, we may not have felt the need to kill them, and I may have been able to talk with them. I was unwise."

He listens to Bart's defense. "Thank you, Bart. I - I dislike killing intelligent creatures, when I can avoid doing so. And yet, I would not willingly place my friends in positions of danger, can I keep from doing so."

"Redux - a fireball on a wooden ship can turn it into cinders. I am thankful you did not attempt such a spell there."

Since Rigging will likely be occupied for a while, Akerin takes a few minutes to look at any damage done to The Sword of the Sea, as well as to his own, smaller boat. He uses a mending spell to patch up the worst of what was done, and examines the boat to see what else need be done to make it once again shipshape.

And he uses the time to think about his role within the small group now known as The Swords of Redemption.

Ari
Tuesday June 24th, 2003 7:34:28 AM

Listening to Ashira Ari adds, "Considering that these sharkmen were just doing what comes naturally to them as scavengers. We might have been able to even get them to leave the ship for a little bit as we looked around. Similar to when you scatter vultures when you come upon something newly dead.

We have to remember to consider our actions and what they might lead to. Just because we call ourselves pirates doesn't give us the right to go around killing everyting that doesn't agree with our plans."

Ashira
Tuesday June 24th, 2003 10:43:05 AM

Ashira calms at Akerin's appology. "It's ok Akerin. I probably was out of line too. You are a worthy ally, and have some unusual tactics. I'm not used to them, that's all. It's just communication. We need to know what each other are doing in order to be the most useful in battle. Let's just not make the same mistake next time." The half-elf smiles warmly at the monk and pats him on the shoulder.

The Hunt Begins-ADM Nellie
Tuesday June 24th, 2003 10:46:10 AM

The Captain listens to Rigging's brief description, and then calls several crew members to him. "Alright lads, we got survivors out there, and we're gonna find them." Pointing to the bruised and bloodied Wildcards, the Captain continues. "Our Cards here tell us that some of the men got off in boats, so they're probably somewhere on the island. There were also some strange creatures, so ye need to be careful. Arm yourselves and start tracking!" The men scramble and in a few minutes head out to begin the search. The Captain looks at Rigging as he pulls out the Nautacolus. "Ye look like ye took a beating out there. Rest up and do whatever it is that you do with that thing. Let me know if you gather any further information."

Rigging focuses on the sea around him, and all suddenly becomes clear. He becomes instantly aware of all the depths of the surrounding waters, the location of several schools of fish, a dolphin swimming nearby the Sword...all he could ever hope to know about the surrounding aquatic areas. He also notices a couple of small blind spots on the other side of the island.

Akerin's inspection of the vessels reveals that while the Sword has taken only minimal damage, his own boat will need extensive repairs to be sea worthy again. He estimates that it will take approximately 13 days to get it back up to snuff. His spell mends several large holes in the boat, but there is much more work to be done.

Several hours pass as the Wildcards rest from their last battle. As the sun begins to set, the Captain approaches Rigging. "Our teams aren't back yet, and that's not a good sign. Gather your team and go looking for them. But be careful...I suspect foul play is a foot."

When Appolo gets back to the ship he heads striaght to his stash of elven wine.He breaks out abottle pours some into and empty waterskin, then heads to the galley grabbing some bread cheese and jerked beef,he then heads up top and finds Valanthe"Join me for lunch in the crows nest.I have some of your favorite beverage."He says with wicked smile and a wink before heading up the mast.If anyone is up there he tell's them that he is taking over the watch and that they are relieved. He the settles down for lunch.

When they are called to duty he shows up quite happy and content. He walks over to Akerin"excuse me y friend, but is you want to stay out of trouble around, may I suggest you let me be the one that gets into it first. Your a priest of Alemi your supposed to keep us out of trouble, not the other way around.

Appolo is clearly refering to the incident on the Ironbanks,as well as future encounters. He then stands ready.

Valanthe joins Appolo for lunch but declines on the wine. It was hard to do but drinking would be innapropriate and potentially deadly to others. He describes the surrounding sea life as normal but goes on to tell them about some of the blind spots on the other side of the island. "Redux, How do you feel about Talon doing a quick ariel recon while we start heading in that direction? Something is picking off our crewmembers and we need information. I want everyone ready to go in 5 minutes. Gather whatever supplies you will need to spend the night away from the ship."

Rigging turns to Bart and says, "Are you entirely healed? I am sure we are going to need your strong arm before this is all over."

Rigging grabs Apollo before he descends down the hatch. "Grab your night recon kit. I have a feeling you are going to be doing some sneaking around before this night is done."

She may not be the stealthiest, but she can see a whole lot farther in the dark than a human...no offense." Ashira's hands tense on her sword grips, curious about what the future holds for the group.

Talon takes to the air and wings his way northward, and begins his report to Redux. Strange, no animals anywhere...this doesn't seem right. Talon thinks to his master.

Gathering their equipment quickly, the Cards assemble and decide that the island is small enough that they should be able to travel by foot. The thick vegetation, and the dim light does slow things down a bit, though, and they watch as Talon soars by quickly over head. Moving rapidly, it takes Redux's winged companion only a few minutes to make it to other end of the island. Nothing here but a couple of small human nests (buildings). I don't see anything living....wait... Ewww....there are two two-leggeds with sharp teeth and scales. They smell like rotten fish. They're in front of the nests. Talon relays to Redux.

Valanthe and Appolo find it no problem to hide in the lengthening shadows as they scout ahead. It doesn't take them too long into the journey to ascertain that Talon's initial conclusion is valid...it would appear that there is no wildlife on the island.

Redux relays Rigging's query to Talon, and receives a mental message back quickly. Looks like they're just standing around. Do I have to stay here, because these things smell REALLY bad!

As Val and Appolo push forward in the darkness, they become aware of a stench before they ever spot anything. It does indeed smell like rotting fish...or maybe worse. Her keen Elven eyesight allows Valanthe to spot the two Sahuagin standing guard in front of the buildings. They are speaking in low tones in a language similar to the one Val has heard Ashira speak in a few times. Appolo too picks up on the whispered conversation between the guards, though he has not spotted them yet.

As Val and Appolo sneak forward, the guards suddenly become tense and move their tridents into combat ready positions. They scan the darkness around them, and one of the guards begins pointing toward Val and Appolo are hiding in the undergrowth.

The battle between the sahuagin and Val and Appolo continues to rage as the rest of the party nears the combat. Val takes a nasty slice out of her foe, who isn't looking so good. The sahuagin dishes out another nasty blow with its trident, slicing raggedly through Val's shoulder (9hp damage).

Hearing the noises in front of them, and expecting reinforcements, Appolo moves to prevent anyone from flanking Valanthe. Smiling wickedly, his opponent follows him, and spears him triumphantly with his trident (10hp damage). Talon wings his way back to his master and alights on a nearby tree with a distinctly unpleasant look on his owlish face. Ari considers his options as the invisible Redux casts invisibility on him.

Val continues to slice and dice at her opponent as Appolo and Ashira gang up on the remaining sea devil. Meanwhile, Rigging, Redux, and Ari, seemingly of one mind decide to examine the occupants of the buildings.

Valanthe's last swing causes the sahuagin to wobble slightly, but it does not drop. It seems determined to dish out as much damage as it can before it goes. Timing its blows carefully, the sea devil lunges its trident deep into Val's stomach, and follows up with a nasty bite to the shoulder (11hp damage).

Appolo's opponent turns to face Ashira as the two Wildcards exchange their banter. It snarls and starts to say something in an odd language of shrill squeals, but is unable to finish as it coughs up bloody foam. It looks down to find Ashira's shortsword buried in its lung. It drops on the sandy soil, blood streaming from its lifeless body.

The invisible form of Redux sneaks around the battle, but is unable to make it to any window. Rigging manages to make it to the side of the right building, and peers in the nearby window. The grimace on his face changes to a smile as he spots the corpses of the sahuagin, realizing that he has been freed from his tormentors. Spotting Rigging and the other Wildcards, the look on his face becomes more urgent. "They've got the rest of your mates at the temple. She has been around much longer than he has and this is bound to happen now and then. Still he doesn't like it but understands it is a honest mistake.

He will hold out his hand to Coral and say, "My name is Arrack Von Palin. I see you have already met my WIFE Ashira. I am a Seven with the Sword of Redemption and leader of there Wildcards. We are looking for some lost comrades from another ship. Sounds like you know where they are. Where is this temple? Is it underwater? Can you lead us there. Rigging will turn to his shipmates they rescued and say, "Gentlemen please inform the Captain that the Wildcards are going to raid another temple. Tell him some of the crew of the missing ship are there and we are going to try to free them and find out what happened. Now hurry back to the ship but stay together. I don't want to have to rescue you again."

Akerin gives a discerning look at Appolo as he walks away. He nods in his direction and speaks softly to Val, "That boy has a lot of zeal, if he'd only learn to channel it. If you pray, think of him." Looking up, Akerin hears his name being called more urgently than before. With a look of confidence and control he makes his way over to the hut. "Your cries have been heard by the great Alemi. None were in immediate peril of death and there is healing for all." He looks over the new ally as he moves his hands carefully and gently over his wounds. He pulls out his wand, still warm from being used over his own crew and, with a gentle smile, begins to pray and tap lightly on the elf's chest, administering the healing power of his god. Once, and the elf stands up straighter; twice and his color returns; three times and any onlookers can tell he wants to speak but restrains himself as the treatment continues. After 5 touches, the healer knows that the added 25 points is most of what he will need to be at full health.

If only someone could see the invisible Redux, they would see his mouth hanging open in disbelief. Calling to Talon, then to the men now free he exclaims, "Talon will lead you the fastest way to the ship and notify us should you run into trouble." He moves over to the fallen sea devils and retrieves their weapons (and armor and knives or anything else that might be of use) (search=15). He takes them to where Coral and the others are at and deposits them on the ground. "If you are to come with us, prepare yourself with what is at hand. This is probably going to get serious before we are through."

Coral looks stunned as Ashira pushes him away and then Rigging makes introductions. "Yes, I can see that much has changed." he says to Ashira Turning his attention to Rigging, the sea elf manages a weak smile. "Congratulations Arrack Von Palin...you have chosen the most beautiful woman for a wife!" He quickly adopts a business like tone as he continues speaking with the leader of the Swords. "Yes, I know where the sea devil's temple is. Ever since the devils came through and almost destroyed our community I have been trailing them. And if what Ashira says is true, then yes, the humans they have captured must have come from the Ironbanks. I am not sure why, but the devils have chosen to erect their temple above the waves on another nearby island. Perhaps it is because they are using human sacrifices and do not wish them to be harmed before they are offered... Yes, time is very short, but I can easily lead you to the temple."

Coral smiles as the saguahin's weapons drop at his feet, picking up one of the tridents and giving it a couple of tosses back and forth between his hands to find the balance point. "Thanks to your friend, (he motions to Akerin) I can lend my services as a warrior also if you wish."

Ari (invisible) and Appolo continue to scan the surrounding area for signs of a sneak attack but find none...perhaps Waard is with you on this mission?

The crew members of the Sword quickly gather as Rigging gives the order to head back to the Sword. They chuckle at the mention of another rescue, and are sure to spread out before returning to the ship. Salty turns as Talon takes to the air and smiles at Rigging. "Good luck to ye, and give those devils a good old fashioned Pirate welcome, will ya?!" Talon begins leading the way back to the Sword, and the crew members follow the form of the white owl through the darkness.

Make any preparations you you want now as we will be entering combat in the next day or two.--Nellie

Ashira
Tuesday July 8th, 2003 9:20:10 AM

Still blushing and staring at her feet most of the time, Ashira asks the Wildcards to gather around her. "Alright, we know what we're going against, so we might as well try to make the best of the situation. As Val and Appolo have already demonstrated, the sea devils are very susceptible to the traditional form of combat." Ashira manages a weak smile at Valanthe. "However, they do have a couple of other weaknesses. The first, obviously is fire. Most below the wave dwellers are afraid of fire. I suggest that the fighters hold back some so that Redux can get in a fire ball or two if possible. Also, the sahuagin are very susceptible to direct sunlight...I am confused as to why they were able to attack our crew during the day, since they are stunned by direct sunlight. Be aware that though they will probably engage us with weapons, they also have the ability to throw themselves into a rage, biting and clawing until they are killed. And we should encounter them under the waves, they have the ability to call sharks to their aid."

After her speech, Ashira tries to pull Rigging aside for a private word. If she is able to, she whispers to her husband in Common "I'm sorry about not telling you about Coral before, but I honestly thought it would never come up. It is a long story, and takes place in a time in my history that I don't particularly care to think about, but I will tell you when you are ready. But know that I will always love you and that nothing or no-one can interfere with our love and my devotion to you."

It doesn't make sense for them to build their Temple on land and I don't like the fact that they were bold enough to attack in broad daylight.I think they are recieving support from someone." he then waits for a reply.

Along the way, he will ask Coral, "How many of these nasties will we encounter at the temple?
What is the layout of the temple? Any information you can give us to prepare for the battle will be very helpful. We have some mighty fighters, including Ashira of course, but with some planning maybe we could kill all of them without losing any of us. Always a primary goal."

The young mage gives his beautiful wife a quick glance and tries to surpress a grin. He adds, "Besides, I never told you about my other fiance. You know I was noble born. My marriage was arranged at an early age. I first met my bride to be when I was eleven. She was a fiesty fifteen year old. She was concerned that I might not be mature enough for her, so she decided to give me some lessons. Yes I really enjoyed those lessons that day. Study study study and study some more. That was my motto." Rigging glances at his wife and breaks out laughing at her shocked expression. "Honey I was just kidding! Get your hand off your sword please! You know I only care for you. I think I better go talk to Redux. Gotta discuss spell selection." Rigging makes a quick getaway.

Rigging's inspection of the sahuagin show no signs of heartseeding.

The Wildcards find it no problem to overtake the other crew members, even in the darkness. Salty looks surprised as the Wildcards approach, and whispers to Rigging "I thought ye was gonna go save the captives." He shrugs as they plod on toward the Sword.

Coral listens attentively to Rigging's questions. "I really don't have any idea how many of the devils are at the temple, but I would wager that we will run into significant resistance. Likewise, I don't know the layout of the temple...I've only been tailing the sahuagin since they attacked our pod. But, I know that they have a back door where they led the captives too. I can take you through that if you'd like. Also, they have a mutant among their ranks. The foul beast has four arms, and seems to be one of the highest of their ranks. If we take him out, some of the other resistance might fade."

It is even more difficult to travel through the dense undergrowth in the night, and the time seems to fly by as the moon slowly begins to rise above the horizon. By the time the party is able to return to Sword of the Seas, the moon has risen almost to its height. You estimate that there is only an hour at the most before the sacrifices are scheduled to begin.

Rigging
Wednesday July 9th, 2003 10:18:53 PM

Rigging runs aboard the ship yelling, "Everyone to your stations! Prepare to get underway! Raise the anchor!" When Rigging sees the Captain he will run over and say, "Captain, I apologize for ordering the ship underway. We only have about an hour to get to the a temple where a group of Sanguin are preparing to sacrifice the remaining crew member of the Ironbanks. Time is of the essense. I want to introduce you to Coral, an old friend of Ashira's who knows where the island and the temple is. If you can get some directions from him, I would like to use the time to organize the Wildcards for a raid. I will come help with the Nautocolus to speed the ship along. Might I recommend that we get the sharks to pull the ship for maximum effort."

Rigging will gather the Wildcards around him and take a quick look at everyone. "Is everyone healed up? Now is the time. Redux, I want you to take the first crack at this mutant that Coral mentioned. Do you have a lightning bolt memorized? Does anyone have any ideas on how to assault the temple. I think we need to use our invisibility rings to maximum advantage. We need a group dedicated to try to free the prisoners. I think we should carry some extra weapons and as many healing potions as possible to help cure and arm some of the Ironbank's crewmembers." The young mage takes a big breath and blows it out. Suddenly a grin crosses his face. "Feels good getting to raid an evil temple huh? Brings back memories...scary memories, but gets the blood up."

Ashira
Thursday July 10th, 2003 10:14:21 AM

The half-elf readies herself for the impending raid, tightening her armor and readjusting all her weaponry. When Rigging mentions how nice it is to be raiding an evil temple again, Ashira pales slightly, and prays to Alemi that there will be no casualties on this mission. She joins in on the prep talk. "Redux, do you have the ability to become invisible again? If so, then I suggest that Rigging, and Appolo use the rings in order to get off a few unexpected attacks. Val, Bart Coral and I don't really need to be invisible...unless you can make us all invisible? Since Ari has exhausted most of his offensive spells, then he's probably best sticking with the fighters. Akerin, I believe it would be most useful if you hang back and provide healing as needed. You are truly useful in battle, but I fear that we will need healing more than another hand. So, if Val, Bart, Coral, Ari and I remain visible, we can provide a distraction by being the first ones in. That way we can also judge the toughness of the opponents. Redux, Rigging and Appolo, you stay invisible and try and find that mutant. It's a temple, so there will probably be a priest too...so you'll want to keep and eye out for that too. Wait until your in the best position, and then strike. How's that sound?"

Bart (George)
Thursday July 10th, 2003 10:47:43 PM

Bart listens to the different plans and adds, "I think we should try to power up as much as possible before we go in. I really liked the bullstrength spell. I can really put down creatures fast. I am sure Ashira, Val and Coral could all benefit from them."

Bart starts pulling out his weapons and checks them over. He will sharpen his sword and generally prepare himself for battle

Akerin
Thursday July 10th, 2003 11:12:29 PM

Akerin listens from the background at the plans being made. At the comment of his healing ability, he becomes saddened. He knows that this is not gratuitous violence but a genuinely dangerous mission. "Let us get as close as we are able. I will give us all Alemi's blessing to improve our advantage in the fight. It will only last 6 minutes but that should be more than enough time to do what we are there to do. After that, should we need cover for the tactical retreat, I will cast a thick fog to hide our path to safety. Let none of you find yourselves alone in a fight or they will overtake us."

Redux
Thursday July 10th, 2003 11:13:12 PM

Redux sits on the deck flipping thru his scroll organizer. A pained look crosses his face at the question of his stock of invisibility. "No, no more scrolls of invisibility. But," he adds with a smile, "I do have the spell memorized as well as a potion of invisibility. I also have the wand of bull strength that would be good, especially for the fighters, before we begin. Regarding tactics, it might be good to use our bows first, this time and from at least 2 angles, if possible; anyone have some flaming arrows?" He looks up as Talon comes down for some attention. He stops talking and simply strokes his feathers as he continues to listen.

Rigging
Friday July 11th, 2003 7:59:30 AM

Rigging will start pacing the deck his mind in an obvious whirl. "There are several things we need to think about. How to cordinate the attack? How to get some beat up prisoners back to the ship if we are pursued? How we keep the Sword from being seen by guards and the temple alerted to our presence? Val, I agree that we need to know the layout of the temple and what we are facing but we are really limited on time here. We can send Talon ahead to do a quick survey but that will only be of the outside of the temple unless..." Rigging turns to Redux and says, "Could you cast your invisibility on Talon? Then he could fly right into the temple and give us an idea on what we are facing."

Rigging pulls out the magical sextant and continues, "I am going to leave the planning of this assault in your capable hands family. I think Ashira was right though. Apollo and I should try to go ahead and station ourselves where we can do some serious surprise damage taking advantage of our rings. The rest of you, including Coral can make up the main body of our attack. Think hit and run. Remember we will need to have some kind of guard on the longboats if we are to get the injured back to the Sword. Maybe we can recruit some of the crew for this duty and they can help man the oars. Gotta go help speed the boat along."

Rigging leaves the group and heads over to the Captain activating the sextant and using its abilities to get to "Temple Island" faster.

Escape to Temple Island-ADM Nellie
Friday July 11th, 2003 12:37:45 PM

Coral joins up with Rigging as he prepares the Nautocolus to speed the ship along. Amazed at the wonder of the devise, Coral gives Rigging rough directions to the island, indicating that it is on the other side of the island the Sword is currently beached upon, a few miles away. He also warns Rigging that there is a large coral reef that surrounds the island, so the Sword will have to be left several yards from the island's shore.

There is a flurry of activity on the deck of the Sword as the Captain prepares the crew for the rescue mission. The ships mage is called forward, and once again performs the strange ceremony with the shark jaws. Pulling with all their gigantic shark might and aided by the favorable winds provided by Rigging, the ship shudders and groans, but once more finds its home in the sea. Meanwhile, teams are formed to dispatch and guard the longboats that will be dedicated for the rescue of the Ironbanks crew. It is no surprise that the Captain decides that the Wildcards should be dispatched first as a raiding party before the other members of the crew join in on the effort.

Arming themselves and preparing the longboats, the crew of the Sword of the Seas appear anxious but jittery as the large ship slips quietly through the night waters toward the mysterious island. Time passes as quickly as the waves that lap against the vessel. As Rigging approaches the launch spot indicated by Coral, you are horrified to see that the moon is VERY close to being full. This one's going to be close. Up ahead, where the island is supposed to be located, a dense fog looms in the darkness.

The longboat for the Wildcard's is readied and lowered into the waters. With a small splash, it hits the waters, and Bart begins to row steadily toward the fog and away from the Sword...

Bart and Akerin continue to row steadily, and soon enter the fog bank. Strangely, even though the moon is mostly full, it is almost impossible to see. You find that you can only see about 5 feet around you. Continuing to row into the mist, you hear the faint sounds of chanting close by, and then the soft crunch as the boat hits the sandy shore.

As soon as the boat settles against the island, the invisible forms of Rigging and Appolo begin to head out into the mist. Limited to about 5 feet of visibility, Rigging and Appolo stumble about on the sandy beach (crunch, crunch, crunch), but eventually manage to find what must be the main entry way to the temple. Scouting around to what you think is the west, you come upon a small door. All of the doors encountered so far have been closed, and you can see light shining from underneath both of them.

The rest of the party waits in the darkness of the fog, silently counting off the seconds. Talon circles above the boat, and reports that he doesn't smell anything yet. Then, suddenly there are a couple of small splashes, followed quickly by that ever so familiar stench of rotting fish. Ashira and Bart feel cold scaly arms reach out of the surrounding water. Rigging and Appolo continue to skirt around the temple, but find no other entrances. They do note that the temple appears to be under construction, as though it is currently serviceable, but there are plans for future expansion.

Meanwhile, back at the longboat, Val and Akerin rush to Bart's aid. As Val pulls Bart back into the boat, Akerins smacks the foul beast on the noggin producing a sound much like a coconut would make. Meanwhile, Ari makes sure that the ship remains balanced as the combat rages. With Val's help, Bart easily brushes off his opponent (Yep, a 21 is a +5 bonus). Spinning around, Bart's sword slashes into the scaly creature of the deep, almost decapitating it. The combined attack proves too much for the creature, and it bobs helplessly on the waves, apparently unconscious.

All those above the waves hear the chanting stop abruptly. It is quickly replaced by the loud swearing in Common.

Meanwhile, beneath the waters, Coral and Ashira find and swim toward the sahuagin that attacked Ashira previously. Finding itself surrounded, the sea devil drops its trident and whips itself into a rage. Turning on Coral, it manages to connect with a few of its attacks, inflicting minimal damage on the elf.

Wednesday July 16th, 2003 9:34:50 AM

Rigging and Appolo scoot around the perimeter of the temple and make it back to the main doors with no problem. Once at the doors, Rigging leans in take a listen behind the temple doors. He hears the sounds of a scuffle, and someone screaming "Ye nasty barnacle luvin freaks, I'll not go down without a fight!" along with a second voice that lets out a stream of profanities that even the most hardened Pirate would blush at. Then a strong voice, that is obviously unaccustomed to Common yells "Oh great Ga'al, we present these, your most hated enemies as a sacrifice to you. May their blood and screams be pleasing in your sight!"

Knowing there is no time to lose, Rigging reaches forward and yanks open the left main door (which opens outward). He is greeted by a volley of crossbow bolts which bounce off the open door and out into the night fog (I am assuming that you stood behind the door when you opened it).

Though very dimly lit, the light inside the temple is almost blinding compared to the inky darkness of the fog, and it takes Rigging and Appolo's eyes a few minutes to adjust. When their eyes do clear, it's hard to believe the sight in front of them. The interior of the temple is decorated in a blood red with several frescos depicting a definite Ga'alian theme...though more shark like in form. Four sahuagin armed with repeating crossbows stand in front of the doors looking vainly for the person who opened the door. Toward the back are two blood stained altars. A sahuagin dressed in the traditional robes of a priest of Ga'al (including the blood red handkerchief) stands between the two alters as four other sahuagin struggle to place two humans on the altars.

Meanwhile, back on the beach, the remaining Wildcards watch and wait for the return of Ashira and Coral. A large pool of blood forms on the waters surface, and then a few seconds later, Ashira and Coral emerge dripping wet from the ocean. No signs of the second sahuagin can be found.

As had been previously discussed in their planning sessions, the Wildcards hold off until they hear Redux finish up his spell. Sidestepping west, Redux carefully calculates where to place his fireball so that it will be most effective. The fog in front of Redux burns away as the small burning sphere hurtles through the darkness and into the temple. It continues to grow in size and intensity until it reaches the middle of the temple and then explodes in a burst of blinding light and searing heat. The flames rip through the sahuagin ranks all but killing several of them. Curiously though, the priest remains untouched by the blazing flames, without so much as a spot of soot on his robes!

As the flames die down and the lighting returns to its former dim state, the Wildcards rush in and begin their assault. Due to the distance, Bart, Ashira, Coral, Ari, and Akerin are forced to make double moves to close the ranges with the crossbowmen. Val, on the other hand is able to engage and attack S12 (since Ari already closed with S11). The crackling scythe arc through the air and beheads the sea devil with one blow. The head flies through the air, biting and snarling until it smacks against the left wall. Meanwhile, the invisible Appolo sneaks past the combat and hides in the shadows with no problem, scoping out the temple (Spot check please). The invisible Rigging tries his hand at deceit as he rounds the corner and casts his spell.

As Val predicted, the sea devils do not fall for Rigging's ruse, standing their ground. Dropping their ineffective crossbows, the devils fall back on their natural weapons, having no time to retrieve their tridents. Fighting for it's life, S9 claws and bites frantically at Bart and manages to connect, but inflicts minimal damage (6hp). Likewise, Ashira and Ari's opponents also scratch the Wildcards to little effect (4 hp to Ashira, 3hp to Ari).

The sounds of battle ring through the temple, and apparently attract attention. The door toward the back of the temple bursts open and two saguahin rush in. Seeing their brothers engaged, they move forward and take careful aim at Bart with their crossbows. One bolt whizzes past Bart and Akerin while the second one lodges into his left arm (4hp damage).

The four sea devils by the altars quickly finish securing the captives to the altar, and rush toward the open door at the back of the temple. Looking triumphant, the priest moves over to stand by the altar containing captive #1. Raising his arms to the sky, he plunges them savagely into the mans chest and rips open his rib cage. Blood spurts upward as the dying captives screams fill the air. Reaching around, and apparently taking great delight in the torture, the priest finally removes his arms. A triumphant smile on his face, he holds out the man's still beating heart. "So is the fate of all who do not fall to their knees and worship almighty Ga'al!"

Once again, seeming of the same mind, Appolo and Rigging both pick the priest as target of their attacks. Appolo sneaks around the edges of the temple, stealthly slinking toward the priest, but suddenly runs into something very solid. Looking up, Appolo finds himself face to face with the ugliest creature he's ever seen! Dressed in leather armor with four arms and a very raged scare across the side of its face. No doubt, this must be the mutant that Coral was talking about! It's hard to believe that you didn't spot that monstrosity before, but with the dim lighting, it seems to melt into the shadows. The beast snarls at his invisible opponent, but can't seem to locate the sneaky thief as it flails two tridents in front of him.

Rigging enters the temple and skirts around the battle line and heads toward the priest. Even making a double move Rigging is still unable to close ranks with the blood thirsty priest.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Wildcards form a deadly reception line as they literally chop the competition into pieces. Bart's blows leave his opponent in a pile of pieces before his feet, and Ari's holy strike likewise dices the sahuagin in front of him. Not wanting to be found shirking, Ashira's blows prove well placed and the last remaining frontline sea devil drops in a quivering pile of flesh.

Seeing that the front line has failed, the remaining sahuagin regroup. The two newcomers move into a position in between the altars and fire their crossbows hitting Ari (5hp) and Coral (8hp). The two of the sea devils guarding the captives move to block the left flank and remove their tridents hanging from their backs. The remaining two sahuagin seem to be struggling with something in the rear of the temple.

Pocketing the former Pirates heart in his robes, the priest of Ga'al grabs the corpse and rips it out of the restraints, throwing it carelessly in the corner. Redux's bolts slam into his body, but he barely seems to notice. Taking up a position by the other captive, he snarls at the Wildcards. "Weak Alemi is nothing compared to the dominion of Ga'al! Soon all will bow their knees to his rule and you Pirates will be crushed under his feet. War is coming, and you will soon meet the fates you deserve!" The priest raises his arms above the captive as the man struggles frantically against the restraints holding him to the altar, blood streaming down his arms.

The battle continues to rage between good and evil as the Wildcards appear to be getting the upper hand.

Slipping past the two sahuagin guarding the middle of the altar, Appolo makes an amazing leap and pounces on the unsuspecting cleric, smashing him into the ground and driving the dagger into his shoulder. Reeling from the pain of the blow and surprise, the priest snarls at the young man with murderous rage. Grabbing the rogue by the shoulders, the priest lifts Appolo from on top of him and in an amazing feat of strength (priest strength=21, Appolo=18), throws Appolo into the altar (Appolo takes 4 points of damage). Then, the priest begins casting a spell and then reaches out and touches Appolo on the leg. Appolo's body shudders as evil energy flows over him, and he immediately feels as if he is not as lucky as he used to be.

Bart, Ashira and Coral all pick out their intended victims and rush them. Bart's blow slices deeply into the sea devil's leg, badly wounding it. The devil and its partner drops their crossbows and draw their tridents.

Ashira likewise manages to spear her victim, catching him in the pelvis region with her longsword. The blood streaming from the wound proves to be extremely distracting, and the sahuagin is unable to connect with its ill aimed blow at Ashira.

With an amazing rush, Coral slams into his opponent, his trident traveling completely through the devil's body. It slumps lifelessly forward and Coral's trident is ripped out of its body as it falls to the ground.

Using his invisibility wisely, Rigging launches an amazing attack against the mutant, cutting a deep wound in its stomach, and then following with a well places blow with his rapier. The PHB states that "Should the rogue score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied." So, Rigging inflicts a total of 24 hp damage. Not bad! Spotting the chance to help out Rigging, Ari moves forward to help Rigging with the mutant. His scimitar slashes across one of the mutants arm, leaving a deep gash The mutant cannot currently be flanked by Ari. Ari took more than a 5 foot step, so therefore he cannot wage a full attack.Looking unfazed at the dual attack, the mutant smiles and wages a full attack against Rigging. In and amazing flurry of blows, the devil lunges one trident into Rigging's shoulder (9hp), another into his stomach (21 hp-a critical :( ) and then plunges a shortsword into his leg (4hp) and then the other shortsword into his side (3hp). Blood pours from Rigging's wounds (he takes 37 dam. total). Laughing wickedly, the mutant takes a step backward, forcing his opponents to come to him one at a time.

Valanthe rushes forward and hops on top of the altar. She notices that the priest is prone and she is unable to attack him this round. Taking advantage of her position, Val slices into Bart's opponent (S8) and almost brings it to its knees.

As Akerin struggles with the leather straps holding the captive in place on the altar, Redux decides to lend a helping hand.

Quickly dropping his first opponent, Bart steps forward and slashes at the remaining sea devil in his path, but to no avail. Noting the opening, the sea devil lunges his trident toward Bart, but smashes it into the side of the altar.

Rising to his feet, Appolo activates his ring once again, and disappears from view. He notes the battle between Rigging and the mutant, but is unable to help right now. Note that rising from prone is a movement action, and activating a ring is a standard action, so Appolo has used up all his movements for this round. The two sahuagin surrounding him look puzzled as the young man disappears in front of their very eyes, and lunge their tridents toward where they last saw Appolo. Amazingly (they had a 50% chance to fail, but they both made their roles!), they are both able to locate Appolo, but their two attacks only manage to nick him (6 hp total). One of the sea devil takes up a position to bar Bart's path to the priest (S6), while his partner (S5) moves to be able to engage Ashira next round.

Ashira manages to badly wound the sea devil in front of him, but cannot take him down. Coral tries to help, but fails, and heads over to engage the mutant. The sea devil takes advantage of the one-on-one combat and spears Ashira with its trident, ripping a small cut in her shoulder (4 hp dam).

Having met his match, Rigging retreats (a 5 foot step) and launches his missiles. The glowing bolts smash into the mutants chest causing him to grunt. Rigging reaches into his pack and pulls out his potion.

Meanwhile, Val barely manages a standing jump over the two sea devils in the center (needed 10 feet, got 10 feet). She draws and attack of opportunity from S7 who is so distracted by the move that he doesn't even come close to the leaping barbarian! Moving to the edge of the altar, Val slices into the side of the mutant, causing blood to freely flow from one of its upper arms. The freak of nature is definitely begins to look worse for the wear, but it apparently has some fight left to it. It turns and engages Val and connects with its bottom set of hands (20hp dam), but missing with the top trident, shortsword combination.

Not wanting a clash with those fearsome weapons, Ari uses his spider climb slippers and skitters behind Val and then over the altar. He takes up a position toward the rear of the altar, and hacks at the side of the mutant, but his blow with the scimitar only bounces of the creature's leather armor (you can keep that hero point since you could only wage one attack this round. :).

Redux's ghostly hand floats over to his intended victim, but can't quite manage to touch him.

Akerin manages to free one of the captives arms and places the weapon in his hand as he turns to help out Rigging.

Needing to finish what he started, the priest rises to his feet and stands above the captive, raising his hands once more. Terror in his eyes, the captive swings the Siangham that Akerin gave him, but is still bound sufficiently that his attack proves futile. The priest plunges his hands down and once more performs the grizzly sacrifice, though this time he is unable to torture the victim as extensively as the previous sacrifice, and he quickly pockets the man's beating heart.

At the back of the temple, unnoticed by most of the combatants, one of the captives, now free from his guards, opens the side temple door and flees into the darkness beyond. For any watching, they spot other captives following the first's flight to freedom.

Wednesday July 23rd, 2003 10:04:38 AM

The battle continues as the Wildcards steadily thin the ranks of the sahuagin.

Ari, Coral, and Val decide to gang up on the mutant. Unfortunately, neither Ari nor Coral's attacks manage to inflict any damage on the mutant, and even Appolo's invisible sneak attack doesn't touch him. Val appears to be waiting for just the right moment to strike, as she bobs and weaves past its faints. Spotting Coral's arrival, the monstrous mutant laughs mirthfully. "Tell me, little fish man...if the humans can not kill me, what makes you think you can?" Shifting his weight, the huge sea devil turns to attack Coral. Every single one of the blows connects with the unarmored sea elf, and he slides off the edge of the mutant's tridents, collapsing in a large pool of his own blood.

Feeling much better, Rigging makes his way over toward the priest and finds that Ashira and a sea devil (S5) are blocking his way to the cleric. Meanwhile, taking the loss of the captive personally, Akerin flings his net over the altar and snatches the unholy priest. He tugs at the rope holding the net, but the sea devil has better leverage, and yanks the rope out of Akerin's hands (Priest Strength=17, Akerin=10). The ensuing slack gives the priest just enough room to begin casting a spell (Conc check=20). A black trident floats in the air in front of Ashira and lunges toward her, catching on her armor, and causing no damage. He ignores the stench from the neighboring sahuagin.

Ashira is able to take down the sahuagin in front of her, but doesn't touch S5. Then, a odd looking hand floats over and taps the sea devil on the shoulder. An odd look fixes on its face, and freezes in place. He begins to exude a gut wrenching stench. All within 10 feet of S5 must make a Fort save DC 15 or take a -2 penalty to attack, damage, saves, skill checks, and ability checks.

In between the altars, Bart find that it takes both of his attacks to down the sea devil in front of him (S6). Having made a full attack on the devil, Bart is only able to make a 5 foot step toward the mutant. The remaining sea devil (S7) tries to spear Bart as he leaves, but its trident bounces off Bart's armor to no effect.

Stepping thru the doorway and towards the priest, he lines up a 5' path where his friends aren't (so that there is a straight line between him and the priest). Thoroughly distracted by Coral's fall, Ari is unable to connect with any of his blows. The visible (became visible after your attack) Appolo also is unable to touch the big fella. Val, however, not only manages to slice into the beast, but slices through its neck, piercing the jugular artery. A massive fountain of blood spurts forth obscuring all near combatants eye sight. Clearing the blood from their eyes, Appolo, Ari, and Val watch as the large form of the grotesque sea devil smashes into the ground, stone cold dead.

Bart slices into the closest sea devil and in two amazing blows sends the creature to a long belated meeting with Gargul.

Frustration framing his features, Redux lets loose with a mighty lightening bolt that rips through the temple, momentarily blinding those nearby. The priest eyes widen in terror, and then screams of pain are heard, followed quickly by a deep low rumbling. As the ringing in your ears subside and your eyesight returns to normal, you notice that the now freed priests body is smoking, and there are two huge holes in the back walls of the temple. Rigging jumps up on the altar to lend a hand in the effort, but misses with his blows. The now all so familiar sounds of spellcasting fill the air, but stop abruptly as Rigging's faints seem to distract the priest.

Now that the battle has been won by the good guys, the party notices that the fog that had crippled their vision is breaking up...soon the last wisps of the stuff are gone and the night doesn't seem quite so dark anymore--though it is, indeed, still nighttime.

The water laps at the not-too-distant shore. The Wold turns. The DM notices that nobody has followed up on Bart's suggestion...

Ari
Wednesday July 30th, 2003 9:11:14 AM

Currently waiting on the next round of posts, Ari was unable to post about Barts suggestion! :)

While Rigging continues questioning the ex-prisoner and figuring out what to do next. Ari will help Bart assemble any useful items from the fight.

"If we are going to burn the temple " Ari turns to look at Riggin and see if he agrees or not," then we should make sure the bodies burn. This" pointing to the mutant, " should definitely not have any chance to return."

Looking over the Sword of Alemi, Ari wonders to himself if there is any way to cleanse the temple of Ga'al's reek.

Appolo
Wednesday July 30th, 2003 5:30:58 PM

When Akerin comes over and Valanthe refuses the
potion Appolo says"Akerin your right,we would gladly accept the healing from your wound.Better give her two shots though, she's being stubborn agian, refusing to believe she's hurt."

Ashira
Wednesday July 30th, 2003 9:19:48 PM

Having wrapped up her business with Coral, Ashira heads back into the temple and rejoins Rigging. She looks inquisitively at Walker, but doesn't ask any questions yet, feeling that the man has probably gone through enough already. With a heavy heart, Ashira gathers up the former captives bodies and transports them to the longboat.

Coral-NPC ADM Nellie
Wednesday July 30th, 2003 9:23:28 PM

Coral waits a few minutes until after Ashira enters the temple, and then enters himself. He keeps his distance from the half-elf and approaches Akerin instead. "Sir, you saved my life today, and I hesitate to ask any further assistance from you. But, my people were badly injured when the sea devils raided the pod, and a man of your greatness would be a blessing to us. We would love to honor our agreement with the worthy Pirates of Jack, but it will be difficult until we are full strength."

Rigging
Wednesday July 30th, 2003 10:25:05 PM

Rigging shakes his wand of detect magic. "I guess this thing isn't working. I better be sure, and activates the wand again on the items, weapons, that they pulled off the dead."

Rigging calls to Appolo, "Appolo, see if you can find any gold or other loot. After that, lets see if we can bring this temple down." Rigging will also look around for some treasure.

He will then help carry anything they found plus the bodies of the slain Ironbanks pirates out to the rowboat.

Valanthe
Wednesday July 30th, 2003 11:01:23 PM

Val helps carry the slain pirates down to the beach so they can be properly buried. She also keeps busy gathering any stray equipment.

Akerin (Kim, back for a few days to play the healer of Alemi, if I may)
Thursday July 31st, 2003 3:05:04 AM

Akerin smiles at Appolo and Valanthe. "I will heal her if she wishes, but will not force my will nor use the wand unless if she refuse."

A moment or two later, when Ashira's old friend speaks to him, he replies, "Glad am I that your life was spared this day, Coral. Would that ... Why must those who worship the ..." Akerin bows his head for a moment, then looks Coral in the eye. "And Rigging not oppose it - and I see no reason why he would - yes, I will do what is granted me to help you and your people. Alemi the Compassionate moves us to make whole whom we might. Grant me leave to speak with Rigging a moment."

Akerin approaches the group's leader. "Rigging, I am asked to help Coral's people. It may take some time. Am I free to do what I can?"

If answered in the affirmative, the healer of Alemi goes to heal and comfort the now freed prisoners, using what means he has, whether natural or supernatural, to restore as many as possible. When morning comes, he does what more he can do.

Wand...What Wand...? (DM Donna)
Thursday July 31st, 2003 1:27:40 PM

Rigging once more tries to activate his wand--and nothing seems to happen. Then, suddenly--

POOF!

A tiny, sparkly little winged fairy appears in a cloud of glitter. Drawing in a very deep breath, the sprite suddenly starts coughing and hacking violently for a moment or two.

"Oh, geez! ::cough, hack:: I keep TELLIN' 'em down in ::cough, cough:: Procurement that this ::hack, wheeze!:: fairydust crap just DON'T ::coughcoughcough:: WORK!!!" the little being yells. However, by the end of her tirade, the fairy is apparently able to articulate once more:

"Ahem...sorry. You, sir, have tried to activate a wand Guaranteed by the Fey Foundation of The Wold...but it hasn't worked. As per Warranty Addendum 713.9, I am here to replace the Defective Product in question with one that IS supposed to work..." From thin air, the teeny-weeny winged wonder produces a fairy-sized wand and taps Rigging's non-working item with it.

POOF! (It's another cloud of glitter again.)

This time the fairy is coughing and hacking so hard that all of you can barely make out something to the effect that the Warranty states the wand be replaced with a replica of the original which has been tested and proven to be operable and if she EVER gets her hands on the danged fairy who thought up this glitter crap then she was going to pull that little so-and-so's wings off!

The glittery stuff coats everything in the area, then slowly dissolves away--except that it leaves behind a glowing residue on four of the things taken from the defeated sahuagin: a suit of Leather Armor, a potion bottle, a wand that looks like it's carved from bone, and a ring that appears to be made of twisted barbed wire, but upon closer inspection, the interior barbs are missing, making it safe for the wearer. Oddly enough, one more thing is glowing softly as well: the bag that Walker is holding onto.

Rigging now holds in his hands a Wand of Magic Detection with the same amount of charges that it had before he tried to activate it (since the DM didn't notice his attempt to use it earlier, this Detect Magic is on her!)

Rigging
Thursday July 31st, 2003 5:19:17 PM

Rigging coughs and waves his hand if front of his face as the dust settles around him. He looks at the fairy in amazement and gives his thanks.

He will then collect the smaller magic items and store them away for safe keeping. "Bart could you get that leather armor off. Its magic and is valuable." Rigging will point out the proper sahuagin.

When Akerin poses his question to Rigging, the young leader will say, "Of course you can use your skills to help out Coral and his tribe? Are you planning to be gone for long? I am sure politically speaking, having you with the sea elves will be beneficial to both the elves and the pirates. Help cement the bonds of friendship and mutal defense. Of course having you as a member of the Wildcards has been very helpful. I guess you will have to follow your heart's desire and pray to your god. I will support whatever decision you make." Rigging looks quizically at the healer for a minute. "How long can you hold your breath for? You might want to reconsecrate this temple and use it as a base of operations. Use if for good instead of evil. Of course you would be setting yourself up as a target to the
sahuagin but you could become an outpost for the pirates. Something to think about...but think fast. I think Appolo is getting torches ready."

Akerin
Friday August 1st, 2003 3:03:24 AM

"I will go now to help those in greatest need this evening. Appolo, my impetuous friend, who would cleanse the Wold of evil scourges one way or another - fire does indeed cleanse. But there are other ways, as well. Evil needs purging, indeed. But, pray grant me leave to work with the sea elves, and see what they would do. Mayhaps Rigging's suggestion may interest their ears. Salt can purify, as can water. Even more the good will and good deeds of men and women of the noble races, who seek wise ways in which to walk, and who speak truth in love. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people." He considers another moment. "But as for the bodies of the wicked priests, they may be consigned to the flames, as far as I am concerned. They gave their hearts to Ga'al. Let him enjoy their bitter ashes, if enjoyment is something he understands."

"Hold my breath?" Akerin laughs at Rigging's question. "Well, I suppose I shall see, soon. Before we speak of my taking leave of you, my friends, let me speak with our allies here. Hmmm - an outpost? My boat will take some time in repair.

"Shall we speak at breakfast?"

He does heal whom he can. He talks with Coral and the others, to see what more he can learn of their ordeal - at least with those of them he perceives not reluctant to speak of such matters. More, he wants to learn of their lives before the recent events, and to see if any have ideas of what they might do now. He silently prays to Alemi, asking for guidance concerning what next he will do. Remain with the Wild Cards - the Swords of Redemption? Or, for now, join with the sea elves, to help them rebuild their lives? Which direction will he go, after breakfast? Is the tongue of the sea elves hard to learn?

Ari
Friday August 1st, 2003 6:22:13 AM

"Should we then do our best to clean out this temple and see if there's anything else that is useful? Maybe send Talon back to the ship and tell them to send out a search party and what has happened here."

Walker (1 hit point, exhusted)
Friday August 1st, 2003 8:21:19 AM

"Please.....someone help me....up.....and.....out of here."
clutching bag to himself, "please....I....neeeeed out of here"

Whoever is near can see that just making this plea has left him sweating and looking ready to pass out.

Ask and Ye Shall Receive...This Time! (DM Donna)
Friday August 1st, 2003 9:15:06 AM

As though some kind of strange yet beneficial magic has been cast, the sound of another rowboat approaches--the party can tell from the voices that it is fellow sailors from the Sword. The longboat hoves to and one of the crew jumps out, saluting Rigging smartly.

"Hey! Great to see you're alive!" the crewman--who has but two sword tattoos on his arm--says by way of greeting. "Cap'n sent us to back ya up, but I knew you'da kicked fish butt by the time we got here. The Cap'n also sends his compliments--we checked out the entire compound and found a couple hidey-holes that had more prisoners in 'em...there's a total of about a dozen hands the survived the capture of the Ironbank--there's seven other waterbreathers we literally dug up that were near death. Flamin' sea devils!" Here the junior crewman spits (and so do all the others in the longboat.) "They all wanna see ya when ya get back to the ship...which, by the way, is gonna need a heckuva LOT more repairs before it can do more than island-hop, if ya know what I mean..."

So now the PCs have several more pairs of hands to judiciously stack up bodies for a pyre, as well as help transport the extremely weak and barely-alive Walker, cleric of Gargul.

Ari
Friday August 1st, 2003 9:31:10 AM

Ari wonders if and when Akerin might use the wand on Walker.

Hearing the longboat pull up and the report on the condition of the sword. Ari starts to size up whether there are enough supplies to build a forge and whether his blacksmiting abilities is what the Sword is going to need in order to get back out to sea.

Ashira
Friday August 1st, 2003 9:56:36 AM

Smiling at the arrival of the "backup", Ashira accompanies Rigging to the longboat after helping Appolo and the others dispose of the sea devil's bodies.

After the long night, she feels the need for some alone time with her husband. Funny how battle made one evening feel like weeks. She briefly wonders how the Ebbtide pod will get along if Akerin decides to stay with them, but quickly shift her mind to other thoughts. Best to keep her mind far from Coral for now. Considering all the treasure that they have just found, she figures that she'll probably have to go and have it identified. Should be interesting to see what new toys they just acquired.

Walker (1 hit point, exhusted)
Friday August 1st, 2003 2:26:27 PM

Walker sits, struggling to remain upright and, as he watches the others haul out dead bodies and loot wonders what kind of ship they are off of that would leave the wounded laying neglected.

Rigging  2d8(7+8)+3=18
Friday August 1st, 2003 5:08:42 PM

Rigging listens to the report of the duece and then notices Walker. He is shocked that Akerin hasn't healed him up yet. He will stride quickly over to him and grab him by an Walker but the arm trying to lend some support. "Akerin! What are you thinking?!"

Rigging will quickly hold a potion of moderate healing to the cleric's lips and help him drink it down. "Here this will make you feel better. I am so sorry for the delay. Please forgive my crew. We get a little one tracked minded at times."

Once Walker is looking more fit, Rigging will order everyone into the boats. "No I am sorry Appolo, You can't burn down the temple yet. Akerin might be using it as a base.... Appolo put that torch down!.....Yes yes I promise if Akerin doesn't want it we can burn it down later...Apollo just get into the boat. I want to get this mutant blood off my shirt."

Appolo
Friday August 1st, 2003 8:19:50 PM

Appolo puts his torch away with loook of disappointment, then helps gather the bodies of the enemy and arrange them on a funerul pyre. He then burns the bodies. He then gathers up the rest of the loot and puts it in the longboat. He just ignores the reinforcements.

Walker
Friday August 1st, 2003 8:19:54 PM

Thank you......Rig......Rigging is it not?
I feel some what better now....at least well enough to move under my own power.
Still very tired...but nothing prayer, sleep and a few meals will not fix, again my thanks.

Akerin  d8+1=7 d8+1=3 d8+1=3
Friday August 1st, 2003 11:27:04 PM

[Ahem. Akerin was healing all who needed it. However, to formally ratify this...]

Akerin approaches Walker. "Sorry, brother. I am Akerin, and I do believe you have seen better days. Let's make this one a bit brighter for you." Using the wand, he cures Walker of 13 hp damage. "Please forgive the delay. I should have recognized the extent of your injuries. You serve Gargul, I take it? Myself - I'm a healer of Alemi. Well met. Or, perhaps not entirely well, but ... my, my mouth is just running like a fountain. If you are a cleric, perhaps on the morrow you and I can do what we might for others injured."

"Yes, now, let us go and tend to the others. Near death, you say? Let us row quickly!"

Bart
Saturday August 2nd, 2003 6:36:19 AM

Bart helps Walker into a boat and loads it with the magic items they found. AFter that he rows out to sea and starts talking to Walker. Hi my name is Bart I heard you are a priest are you a crewmember on the Ironbanks too?

Walker (32 hit points, still exhusted)
Saturday August 2nd, 2003 8:00:23 AM

[ooc to Akerin: I personally thought you were healing others but Walker could not see this from were he was, he was in bad shape, and I did need to know how many points he would get out of this, thanks :-) ]

To Akerin: "Thank you for you care, I will gladly provide what help for the others that I can tommorrow."

To Bart: "My name is Walker, sad cercumstances to meet you under Bart. Yes I am a follower of Gargul and was the Ironbank's healer.

While his wounds do look better, anyone can see
he is still almost swooning from exhustion.

Row, Row, Row Your Boat(s)... (DM Donna)
Sunday August 3rd, 2003 8:14:19 AM

The stench of burning dead sahaugin is horrible, but infinitely sweeter than that of the foul odor of living ones, that's for sure. The extra hands make quick work of aiding the Wildcards in getting into their own boat with Walker. The new arrivals carefully transport the other, late crewmembers of the Ironbank in their own craft.

Upon arrival back at the Sword of the Sea, the party is welcomed aboard by a rather drawn Captain Hawley. Even though he is a grizzled half-elf, the events of the last 24 hours have actually seemed to have put a few more wrinkles and a gray hair or three on him.

"Aye, welcome, Wildcards," he greets you, "I hear tell ya gutted yerself a fine kettle of nasty fish! Good fer ya...we seen what they done to the waterbreathers an' the few who survived the ambush of the 'Banks...no plane of damnation can be nasty enough for the likes o' them!" Hawley's voice is sharp enough to split fairy hair, and his expression is a mix of outrage...and weariness. A very disturbing combination on the face of a man who is supposed to age very slowly thanks to his elven blood.

"Whistler be wantin' to see ya," the captain continues, "He's recuperatin' in the sick bay area...port forward." He hooks a thumb in the general direction the group needs to go. "Now I'm off to oversee repairs...flamin' sea devils...hope they all rot in h..." Hawley mutters as he moves out of earshot.

Valanthe
Sunday August 3rd, 2003 10:22:06 PM

Valanthe helps the wounded sailer she was helping to the sick bay. She notices some blood spots on her nice robe and wonders why she wore it into battle in the first place. When the first possible moment arrived, she would clean the robe and put it away for special occasions.

Rigging
Sunday August 3rd, 2003 10:37:26 PM

Rigging will help some of the wounded aboard, listen to the Captain's tirade and then go see Whistler.

Ari
Monday August 4th, 2003 8:49:26 AM

Ari does his best to help with the wounded, and anything else that will help out. He gives a comforting word here, a helping hand there.

Wondering what Whistler has for the group, Ari follows when the go to see Whistler.

Ari waits with anticipation to get back on the forge and help out with the ships repairs.

Ashira
Monday August 4th, 2003 10:21:37 PM

Wiping the sahuagin blood from her weapons on the trip back to the Hammerhead, Ashira is unusually quiet. She sits close to Rigging, but does not speak with him.

After arriving on the Hammerhead, Ashira listens to the Captain with noted distraction. She sticks close by Rigging as he heads toward were Whistler is recovering. She also cautiously eyes the newcomer Walker, but only for a while, figuring that if the sahuagin wanted to kill him, he must be ok.

Redux
Monday August 4th, 2003 10:27:11 PM

Redux does what he can to help out. After some stumbling, he gets his gear in order back on the ship. He then joins the others with Whistler, to hear the story the missed and the reason for the rescue.

Akerin
Tuesday August 5th, 2003 2:44:45 AM

Akerin listens to the captain's words, then heads for the sick bay. Quickly he eyes those there, and judges who is in greatest need of immediate care, including Whistler. He uses his knowledge of anatomy, the art of healing, and a few twinks here and there of the wand of cure light wounds - although he tries to conserve some charges.

"What did you have in mind, Whistler?"

Whistler Speaks (DM Donna)
Tuesday August 5th, 2003 6:38:28 AM

"There be two things that we all wanted ye t'know..." Whistler tells the party, "...first was that these devils lived up to their name--they made some kind of pact with Ga'al...they seemed to be convinced that Ga'al is the newest incarnation of their accursed shark god!" Here the tough sailor spits (as do several others) to show his derision of that notion. "But that don't matter none--the sea devils are linin' up all over their territories in order to...to get heartseeded! Stubby--before she died, that is--could tell what they was sayin'...she said they was all excited a'cuz there was a ship that were a'posed to be comin' here with their heartseeds. Some ship called the Pride o' Ga'al or some such. Ship's long overdue, and them devils were starting to get antsy about it."

Many disgusted and angry mutters come from those survivors who can focus on the conversation. Whistler waves them quiet and then goes on:

"Second thing is...well...the mates here an' I...we wanna stay here with the Ebbtides. We damn near got kilt here, but we ain't gonna let them sea devils get their nasty claws into this area--b'sides...Em over there's been after my salty tail for the last five years--"

"--THREE years, you spalleen!" snaps the seasoned female crewmember whose arm is set in a splint.

"--an' it's time I settle down...so we may as well do it in a place that needs our help if The Jack is gonna have the advantage of it at all." Whistler finishes his sentence with as much dignity as his fellow 'Banks survivors will let him have with all their ribbing and catcalling.

"We just would like a cleric or th' like to stay with us, seein' as how poor Walker was the first one they drug off to sacrifice..." Whistler says, looking a bit sad at the remembrance.

Rigging
Tuesday August 5th, 2003 9:17:52 AM

Rigging gently claps Whistler on the shoulder. "Whistler, you should know a couple of things. The first is we were able to rescue Walker. He is alive but has gone through a terrible time. I am not sure if he is going to want to stay, but one of ours, my friend Akerin," Rigging quickly points to the priest, "is thinking about staying. I am sure that he would love having you and some of your crewmates stay with him.

The second thing is The Sword of the Seas lived up to her name and intercepted The Pride of Ga'al," Rigging will pause as he waits for the spitting to stop, "and put her on the bottom."
Rigging will pause again waiting for the cheers to die down. "The one thing that we discovered, was Ga'al has branched out and is taking non-humans as worshippers these days. Not only inherently evil creatures like the sahaugin, but goodly folk as well. We have seen halflings and elves in his malicious sway. You will need to check all recruits carefully.

We also saved a sea elf named Coral. He would be a good go between for you between your colony and the sea elves. Rest now. Sleep knowing that you are safe and in Alemi's hands"

Rigging looks down at his bloody shirt and gives a start. "I need to get freshened up and changed. I will gladly share a mug of ale with you and all your brave comrades later."

Rigging starts to leave and grabs Ashira's hand as he turns to go. "I will wash your back if you wash mine?" he smiles at her.

Ashira
Tuesday August 5th, 2003 12:16:33 PM

The half-elf smiles with intense relief at Rigging's comment. "Business first, husband. We should tell the Captain what we've learned about the devils. Then, let's get that foul blood off of you and me. Unless you're into sponge baths, might I recommend a nice swim? I'm sure I can find us a nice secluded spot nearby...that is unless we are needed on the Hammerhead." Ashira heads back to the Captain and gives a brief report and then requests a few hours of rest for the Wildcards to recover from the recent battle. Then she goes to check on Walker, making sure that the new cleric has found suitable accommodations and is resting.

DM Prerogative (DM Donna)
Tuesday August 5th, 2003 1:00:42 PM

This is a general OOC note to the players: The game is lagging a bit from its schedule, so tomorrow's post will jump to the point where the Sword is about to leave the island. The total amount of time spent at the island was 16 days. In that time, everyone has helped fix the ship, Walker has had a reunion with his Ironbank crewmates (who all agree that Walker should simply switch places with Akerin, as the poor cleric of Gargul needs to be away from the place of his imprisonment), Coral and all of the surviving aquatic elves (save one) have left to go back to their underwater territory to find and group together what may be left of the Ebbtide tribe, and everyone left at the island has been able to relax between repair shifts, enjoying the island scenery and delighting in the flocks of seabirds, cavorting of dolphins, and collecting of seashells.

Remember, players--EVERYONE must have their updated CSes in to me before I post tomorrow (that is usually at 6am Eastern time) if they want to be sure that their character can engage in any possible combat that might occur. Walker's sheet is in the 3.5 edition rules already, so he is exempt. If you don't have 3.5 yet, get it to me in 3e--but get it to me BEFORE TOMORROW'S POST!

Thanks! 8)

Appolo
Tuesday August 5th, 2003 5:26:47 PM

Appolo spends as much time relaxing as possible, while the ship is repaired and made ready. When it is time to leave,he says good bye to Akerin and hands him a Dagger with {TO Akerin,From Appolo} ingraved on it.He wishes the healer luck.

Ashira
Wednesday August 6th, 2003 8:08:17 AM

After gathering up all the magical items from their recent battle, Ashira heads off to have them identified. She spends the rest of her time alternating between sparring practice with Val and Bart and having plenty of uninterupted "quiet time" with her husband.

The 4-Armed Mutant REANIMATES!!! (DM Donna)  d20+10=23 d20+10=20 d20+10=16 d20+10=24
Wednesday August 6th, 2003 8:40:39 AM

Suddenly the four-armed mutant who'd been SUCH a bear in the last fight the Wildcards engaged in reappears, wielding a giant +4 Feather of Tickling in each of its four arms!

"You were warned, puny airbreathers!" growls the hulking menace as he advances on the group. "I have been granted Divine Permission to seek revenge on you for having bested me in combat! I will have that revenge--NOW!!"

Walker, Rigging and Ashira manage to easily dodge the mutant and escape the area entirely.

Appolo and Valanthe are nimble enough to stay just beyond the range of the Feathers.

However, Redux, Arislan and Bart aren't so lucky--the mutant is able to make Tickling Attacks on each of them...two on Bart!

His attack on Redux hits AC23; Redux (according to his OLD character sheet) only has AC15, so he is hit with the Feather, and must now make a Fortitude save with a -4 penalty or double over helplessly with laughter. (Total Fort Save for Redux is only +1 because that equals the 5 from his OLD sheet minus the 4 penalty.)

Another feather connects with Ari, easily overcoming his OLD armor class of 16 and forcing Ari to make a Fort Save with a total OLD bonus of only +4.

Two feathers wiggle Bart's way, one misses but the other connects with a hit of 24 versus Bart's OLD AC of 22. Bart's Fort Save is +1 because his OLD sheet has +5 for the Fortitude Saving Throw.

None of the characters here can fight back, because the DM has not received any CS updates as she has been repeatedly asking for!

All three offenders must save versus DC21 or become helpless with laughter...and laughing like this will indefinitely hold up the game for everyone else!

SEND IN YOUR CHARACTER SHEETS TODAY!!!!

(Appolo and Valanthe should send the Dungeonmaster their CS and an update on their conversion to 3.5 respectively.)

Walker  d20+8=26
Wednesday August 6th, 2003 12:53:32 PM

Walker easily recognizes the horrible mutant as some sort of chastizment from the Gods, Knowing it will cause no real harm he ignores it. Will 26

Ashira
Wednesday August 6th, 2003 10:46:49 PM

The half-elf watches with a mixture of amazement and preturbment as the reanimated mutant attacks the members of her family. "For the love of Alemi...is there nothing we can do to stop this abomination? How many times must you die?" Knowing that the nasty has been sent by the gods on a divine mission she does not attempt to intervene.

Ari
Wednesday August 6th, 2003 11:10:10 PM

"Belief in the higher powers that be usually works for me." As Ari wipes a hand across his face and no longer sees the mutant. Stepping back a little bit, he watches in wonder as the other two get continued tickling.

Redux  d20+1=8
Wednesday August 6th, 2003 11:10:52 PM

As Redux doubles over on the ground laughing, he looks up at the sky and tries to form the words "...but I did what you asked...just like (::or rather WITH::) Ashira."

Thursday August 7th, 2003 7:31:50 AM

Just as suddenly as the four-armed horror appeared, it disappears. Apparently the gods are satisfied that order has been restored to The Wold...for now.
