The group, with the exception of Milo, stands before the coccoons, weapons at ready for the charging Bounders. The bounders in the background move forward. In the pack of five, three race each other in an attempt to claim a prairie pig. The greedy middle one chomps onto it, while the other two look around for more pray. Grymash, roaring nearby, is an obvious target (for next round). The other two trudge along west, looking for targets. The first bounder scurts around the web and charges at the smallest group member close to it: Flea. Luckily, the magic of the circle protects her from its gnashing jaws (AC 16). Also, due to its charging, it's a bit off balance. (-2 to its AC) The second bounder screeches and strains at the webs, but in doing so twists himself further into a heap. He makes absolutely no progress this round. The third bounder follows after its packmate around the web to the west.
[Flea, since you had an action readied and you were attacked, you get an attack on that bounder. Anuk, although you don't get an attack (since the creature had reach due to its size) you can choose to be flanking it. (This will also affect Flea's opportunity to sneak attack) No bounders came within 5 feet of other characters this round, so no other held actions can be made.] [Other things: Since it's round 6, any spells or effects (raging, bless, protection spells)started at the beginning of combat might be ending soon... (10 rounds = 1 minute) Keep this in mind.]
It's your guy's actions.
Milo 2d4(2+1)+2=5 d4+1=5 Wednesday July 16th, 2003 10:34:37 AM
Unleashes a prepared magic missile from memory on the bounder 2nd bounder skirting the web.
(8 points of damage as 2 missiles slam into it)
*used a hero point to reroll the 1 i rolled for damage*
Anuk (AC 20, bless) Wednesday July 16th, 2003 11:30:12 AM
"Wha?...Damn!" curses Anuk when he sees the bounder enter the circle and attack Flea. Why didn't he present himself as a more obvious target?! He moves quickly to get the bounder directly between Flea and himself, and angrily bares his teeth, a twisted caricature of his usual smile.
Looking for an opportunity to attack, he shouts at the creature to get its attention away from Flea, "C'mon you sunbaked pig-eater! You think she'd make a tasty morsel? Why don't you try takin' a bite outta me?!!"
(OOC: I thought Anth said these bounders were much smaller than the ones we had encountered before. Do they still have the over-sized reach? BTW, thanks for filling in!)
Gilan[AC: 18/19 against chosen opponent, Bull's Srength+4, Bless] Wednesday July 16th, 2003 2:09:30 PM
Gilan looks to Jake and nods his head in the direction of the bounder moving west. "Lets roll our formation a little more to the west...if Gry doesn't cut him off then we can." He will watch for other potential problems as they make the shift. He will keep his actions from last round in mind for anything closing.
ADM Mikey Wednesday July 16th, 2003 4:23:49 PM
[I hope everyone got the picture. If you didn't, please email me at mikey_powell@hotmail.com . Anuk, what I meant was you don't get that held/readied attack from last turn (Round 6). You can still attack on your turn (Round 7). These are smaller than the other bounders, but they're still pretty big.]
Sterlin Wednesday July 16th, 2003 4:35:59 PM
Sterlin remains on guard. Readied to attack any approaching bounder.
Flea(19 ac)(+1 Bless, +4 Protective Ward) d20+8=14 d6+1=6 2d6(2+2)=4 Wednesday July 16th, 2003 8:50:45 PM
Flea swipes at the bounder with her short sword, as she watches Anuk move in behind the beast. She hopes to make contact with some vulnerable spot, but isn't sure of the accuracy of her blow, since she is not familiar with the anatomy of the creature.

[Have to move along to next round.] Flea's slash causes a spectacular gush of blood. Milo's missiles slam into the Bounder with concussive force. (Diagram to be mailed soon...) Bounder #1 (Which Flea and Anuk are flanking) screeches in pain from Flea's slash, and instictively tries to bite the halfling back, ignoring the large target Anuk due to self-preservation. It manages to scrape the nimble halfling with a claw. (8 damage) Bounder #2 (in the web) tears its way farther through the web. It's more than halfway through. Bounder #3 follows after its packmate (#1) around the web. Not understanding whatever threw the stinging missiles into it, it charges at the obvious target of the yelling man, Anuk. It manages to tear into him with a vicious bite with its charge. (-2 to its AC from its charge, it did 7 damage to Anuk). Two bounders charge Grymash (#4+5). Their formidable teeth bounce off his shiny new breastplate and the field of protection around them all. One of the other bounders contents itself with a prairie pig. Another one (#6) charges straight at Gilan, and chomps on him viciously. (9 damage) No other bounders are engaged with PC's, but others still move in the background. (As shown in the diagrams)
Milo 2d4(3+4)+2=9 Thursday July 17th, 2003 8:53:11 AM
casting his last prepared Magic Missile on Bounder #3.
(2 more missiles slam into it, doing 9 points of damage)
yelling from his perch Milo screams out: concentrate all attacks on one Bounder, drop em fast cuz more are coming.
Grymash (AC22, Rage, Bless, Prot. from Evil, Barkskin, Bulls Strength) d20+15=30 d20+15=24 d8+15=19 d8+7=11 Thursday July 17th, 2003 10:30:42 AM
Grymash slashes into Bounder (4) with a morbid giddiness.
(Hit AC 30 and 24 for 19 and 11 damage. That's 30 points of possible damage.)
Grymash continues to roar and prepares to strike the other bounder if this one is to fall.
Sterlin d20+5=23 d6=5 Thursday July 17th, 2003 11:20:19 AM
Sterlin steps forward towards Gilan and swings his sickle at the bounder which bit him.
(hit ac 23 for 5 points of damage)
Gilan[AC: 18/19 against chosen opponent, Bull's Srength+4, Bless] d20+10=30 d20+10=18 d6+4=5 Thursday July 17th, 2003 2:36:16 PM
Gilan glances in Jakes direction and is glad to see that his packmate is still helping him double team this bounder. He brings his scimitar slashing in and feels it bite deep. He salutes Sterlin with his now bloody scimitar. "Well struck."
[to hit: 30(18 critical); damage: 5(10 critical)]
Jake (AC 25, +4 protective ward, Bull Strength +2) d20+10=25 d10+8=13 Thursday July 17th, 2003 4:36:45 PM
Jake slides behind the Bounder facing Gilan, flanking it, and whips his sword hard into its flank. His sword cuts viciously into it. (13 damage)
Flea (AC 19, HP now 28-8=20, +1 Bless, +4 Protective Ward) d20+8=18 d6+1=3 2d6(5+2)=7 Thursday July 17th, 2003 8:59:33 PM
Flea's jubilation at inflicting damage on the bounder is tempered by the sudden shock of pain inflicted when the horrid beast rakes her with it's razor sharp teeth. The rogue sidesteps the bounder to keep herself between it and the cocoon behind her, while trapping the creature between herself and Anuk. As Milo's projectiles slam into the bounder (#3) that is menacing the ranger, Flea slices at the bounder (#1) in front of her, once again, then darts quickly out of it's way.
(Hit AC 18 for 10 points damage)
The Giant Bounder [DM Jerry] Thursday July 17th, 2003 10:35:23 PM
Suddenly from nowhere, a large bounder comes jumping up behind Milo. He opens his mouth and just as suddenly Milo is gone. Eaten.
[OOC: NO need to go after the bounder. Big Tim has resigned playing in Game 10. This is his exit. Should he ever return, well then he somehow later escaped the belly of the Bounder.
I've already replaced Tim, knowing that this was coming, with your new player John who will join you soon.
Mikey don't consider my post here the post for the day. Please go ahead and post as normal.]
Anuk (AC 20, bless) d20+8=16 d8+1=5 d20+6=9 d6+1=7 Friday July 18th, 2003 12:08:24 AM
Anuk's anger increases at the sudden flash of pain. Fighting to concentrate through it, he slashes with his longsword at the beast still standing between him and Flea.
(bounder #1: hits AC 16 (+1 bless, -2 two-weapon fighting, +2 flanking) for 5 pts (+1 favored enemy)).
Without looking to see what damage he may have caused, he turns his attention to the bounder with its teeth in him and clumsily brings the short sword in his left hand down somewhere just behind its head .
(bounder #3: hits AC 9 (no flanking bonus), for 7 pts).

Flea and Anuk use a bit of teamwork, the halfling slashing deeply into the bounder (#1) while Anuk hacks into it (using his earlier attack). It brays uncertainly, wounded severely (25 damage to it so far) but still standing. Anuk, then using his attack for that round (sorry about this mistake), swings but misses the bounder attacking him (#3), but Milo's missiles slam into it with great force. (17 damage to it so far)
Sterlin, Gilan, and Jake team up on one Bounder (#6), and the combination of garden utensils, curved blades, and bastard sword reduce the creature's hunger noticeably. (28 damage will do that to anything)
Grymash causes chunks of Bounder #4 to go all over the place in his massive attack. (30 damage) Four of the six bounders appear massively hurt, and it appears that none of the other bounders have taken interest in you yet. Meanwhile, behind you, the coccoons pulse and you can feel something happening...!
Monster's actions: A huge bounder eats Milo. Bounder one, still quite hungry and enraged, attempts to chomp down on some Flea and is nearly successful. (16 damage! Ouch!) Bounder #2 progresses to the edge of the webs, but is unable to move anymore. Bounder #3 claws twice at Anuk and rakes him once with its paws for 8 more damage. Bounder #4 turns tail and runs, yipping. If Grymash desires, he can have a free attack of opportunity. Bounder #5 bites into Grymash's shoulder for 12 damage. Bounder #6, though rather wounded and surrounded on three sides, attempts to go after Sterlin. It tries to claw twice. One claw batters Sterlin for 7 damage.
(It's now round 9. From an ADM standpoint, I hope I'm not being too hard. You have done lots of damage to these creatures, and many are really wounded, even as they've done some damage to you. From a player's standpoint, man, this ADM is a jerkface! j/k :) )
Trellus (ac18, blessed) 3d8(8+4+3)+5=20 Friday July 18th, 2003 12:22:56 PM

Trellus seeing Flea take a beating, he makes is way over to her and casts Cure Serious Wounds from his wand. (Cures 20 points of damage)

Grymash's roar becomes mixed with laughter when the little piggy bounder tries to flee.
(Attack of Opportunity - Hit AC 30 for 21 points of damage.)
Grymash then turns his wild gaze at his next victim. "YEAAHHH ... YOUR BEATER IS HERE YOU SUN-BAKED TREADLES!!!"
(Hit AC 22 for 20 points of damage. Second attack, hit AC 34 nat 20, 27 crit. 38 points of damage. For a possible total of 58.)
IF Grymash was an abstract expressionist, and the plains was his canvas, he just splattered red paint all across his painting.
(Ive only counted 5 rounds to this combat. Am I miss counting? 1.Gry rages and charges, 2. Gry charges back, 3. Holds attack waiting for bounders, 4. Hack at first bounder, 5. Slash at second bounder.)
Gilan[AC: 18/19 against chosen opponent, Bull's Srength+4, Bless] d20+10=18 d6+4=5 Friday July 18th, 2003 6:26:21 PM
Gilan brings his scimitar slicing in at the bounders exposed side/back as it turns on Sterlin. He feels the pulsing behind him from the cocoons, but knows that to turn around would spell certain doom.
[to hit: 18, damage: 5] [not sure but how much longer will the Bull's Strength last? i believe that there is still about 2 rounds on the bless]
Flea(19 ac)(+1 Bless, +4 Protective Ward) d20+8=13 d6+1=4 2d6(4+3)=7 Friday July 18th, 2003 9:13:51 PM
Flea stares in wonder at the horrifically carved up beast in front of her, and gapes in disbelief as it remains standing. When it turns on her, she is taken by surprise, and her eyes grow wide with the shock of the wrenching pain as the beast makes it attack on her. In a stupor, she makes a feeble move to keep the bounder (#1) between the ranger and herself while making a weak stab at the beast. Dizzy from loss of blood, she is unsure if she connects with her target.
Reeling and in shock from her injuries, Flea backs away from the bounder. Suddenly, she is infused by a feeling of hope and her vision clears. She watches in awe as her wounds seal themselves, and she feels a burst of energy soar through her small body. Looking over her shoulder, she sees the cleric, Trellus, and understands.
The rogue stands firm, her shortsword ready, should the creature attempt another attack.
Hit AC 13 for 11 points of damage
Anuk (AC 20, bless) d20+8=26 d8+1=6 d20+8=11 d6+1=7 Sunday July 20th, 2003 9:48:00 PM
As the bounder's claws tear through Anuk's armor and flesh, he feels his knees begin to buckle and warm blood running down the length of his body. Well, we are the blood pack,he thinks. I just thought it would be their blood...not ours.
Hoping to reduce the number of attackers on him, Anuk concentrates on the bounder still between him and Flea. Both swords flash briefly in the sun and come down simultaneously on the beast.
(Both attacks on bounder #1. 1st attack hits AC26 for 6 pts. 2nd attack hits AC11 for 7 pts.)
ADM Mikey Combat Round 9/ Jake (AC 25, blessed, protective ward +4 AC, Bull Strength +2) d20+7=22 d10+12=21 Sunday July 20th, 2003 11:15:32 PM
(This is the way things would go if Anthony doesn't post on Monday... A heads up for everyone. Don't respond to this right away...)
Gilan's blade sinks into the Bounder #6's side, and it drifts into unconsciousness, slumping to the ground. Flea keeps the Bounder #1 distracted while Anuk quite capably chops its back into pieces. It falls to the ground, bleeding to death. Grymash tears into the fleeing bounder #4, killing it, and then whirls onto bounder #5, slaughtering it in a brutal display of bloodlust. Jake takes a few steps and hacks into the back of the creature who bit Anuk (#3). With a grunt and a ferocious swing (power attack-5) he hacks into it, using his sword much like an axe by this point. Only two bounders remain attacking the guys. The one facing Sterlin and Jake decides now might be a time to run away, and takes off at full speed. The one who just got out of the webs starts tearing back through them to get away.
ANTHONYS ADDITION:::: It seems as if by suddenly decidin to flea, as all of them do that they gain speed and power. Turning tail and leaping off over and through the grass the wild bounders dissapear and disolve into the grass. It was clear that unlike any you have faced before these semed less inteligent less manevolent. They seemed if anything as a hungry pack of wolves. the clearing is silent as the sun prepares to slip below the horizion.
Trellus 2d8(3+1)+4=8 Monday July 21st, 2003 2:15:27 PM
As the bounders seem to be leaving, Trellus switches wands and taps Anuk. Healing flows into the ranger (Cure Moderate Wounds - 8 hp).
"Stay close to the cocoons," he calls, watching the last bounder try to get away. Then he notices the activity inside the cocoons and hastily adds, "but not too close."
"Whoever's got healing wands start weaving with 'em."
Only then does the cleric realize Milo, and the boat(OOC yes/no?), are gone. "Milo? MILO! Where are you Milo?"
"Gry," no, he's coming down from his frenzy "Uh...Jake, come help me look for Milo."
Trellus trots off to where the boat and halfling should be, frantically looking for signs of his friend.
Sterlin Monday July 21st, 2003 2:25:18 PM
Though he recieved a good injury, Sterlin remains prepared to defend the cocoons.
" It ain't over yet. Anything could be out there."
Gilan d8+4=7 d8+4=10 Monday July 21st, 2003 2:43:25 PM
Gilan looks around at the arnage around them and shakes his head. The wound he had received earlier is starting to clot over and he makes his way to Sterlin. "Here...let me help out with that." He casts cure light wounds first on Sterlin (7hp) and then on himself (10hp). He sends a silent prayer to nature for the power to aid his pack.
Turning now that most of the danger is past, he watches the cocoons with interest. "I believe that we are about to witness something that few would ever get the chance to see." With that he falls silent and watch the happenings before them. That was what Malafret had said they were to do...protect and witness the event.
Flea d20+8=16 d20+10=18 Monday July 21st, 2003 11:08:24 PM
Bloodspattered and weary, the rogue moves towards Anuk, still holding her shortsword in her hand. "You okay, ranger?" she asks the wounded man. Just then, Trellus comes by, and works his healing magic on Anuk.
As Trellus starts calling for Milo, Flea speaks up, "It's no use, cleric...Milo's gone!"
The nervous rogue listens (Listen=16)for any sound besides the drone of the pulsing cocoons, while she scans the clearing for any new enemies (Search=18). She holds her shortsword in her hand, turning it nervously until she has a comfortable grip.
(OOC: I'll be away from home the next 3 weeks, but expect to be able to post regularly. Please don't worry if I miss one or two. (But I'll try not too!))
Tiev and Zilia Monday July 21st, 2003 11:13:11 PM
Two wasps, one large and one small, hover protectively near the silent druid as he watches the cocoons.
Anuk d20+6=12 d20+1=9 Monday July 21st, 2003 11:47:36 PM
Anuk closes his eyes and breathes deeply as he feels the healing powers of the wand go to work in him. As the pain subsides, he turns to Trellus. "Thank you, my friend. I feel much better. Nature should be able to take care of the rest over the next few days."
Then he addresses Flea with a wink, "I guess the "dance" didn't work quite as well as I was expecting. Still, I think with a little practice, we can perfect it. Are you okay?"
Seeing the others look for Milo, he sheaths his swords and slowly searches the area looking for any sign of the halfling, but finds nothing conclusive.
"I can't believe it...he's just gone."
(wilderness lore (using track feat) 12, search 9)
DM Anthony Tuesday July 22nd, 2003 10:31:20 AM
The boat still casts its shadow over the battlefield but Milo is gone..... however thoughts quickly change as the coccons begin to shake and shiver. Suddenly bursting outward from the coccon comes a claw, then a shoulder, then a great head. Emerging from first one, and then the other, and finnnaly the third burst small Bounders. Falling from the shell one of them lifts its large head to the sky and howls. The howl is answered off toward where the others had runn off to. The small ones begin to try and crawl about searching for food as the sounds of the pack returning come to your ears. Best to get up on the boat or get out of here quick. The globe has begun to indicate that a new event must be travled to.
Gilan Tuesday July 22nd, 2003 5:59:08 PM
He gaps in amazement as the cocoons burst open to reveal...bounders. He glances around to the others and then shivers when he hears the first bounder howl. The answering return howl is even worse as he realizes that the ones they had just fought are coming back. "Well poeple...do we take refuge on the skiff or get the heck out of here?"
Assessing the situation he takes in the skiff and shakes his head. "We will not get too far dragging that along and we should not leave it behind." With a last minute thought he yells to each of the others. "To the skiff...we can make a stand there back to back." Glancing around again he shakes his head again. "What about the next event...what direction...maybe we should move out and take the boat...though I hate to have these bounders chasing us."
Sterlin Tuesday July 22nd, 2003 7:51:30 PM
Bounders are not at all what Sterlin expected, but it does make sense he thinks to protect all beasts of the plains.
"Thanks for the healing Gilan. We should grab the skiff and head away from this place. Lets head out opposite the direction the bounders are coming from for a bit and then we will move quickly in the direction this compass guides."
Anuk Tuesday July 22nd, 2003 9:15:00 PM
Anuk readies his bow. He looks over the scene trying to make sense of what they just witnessed and fought for. He shakes his head, hoping that understanding will eventually come. With a nod toward the oncoming bounders he says, "I'm with Sterlin...let's grab the boat and get away from them before we head to the next event."
Trellus 2d8(8+5)+3=16 Tuesday July 22nd, 2003 9:54:26 PM I can't believe Milo is gone. Just like that The fact that the Pack has no time dawns quickly on Trellus. The cleric pushes his emotions down (but they'll be back), and concentrates on the task at hand.
"Sterlin's plan sounds good. Time to speed up the loom and get out, dudes."
Trellus joins the group in grabbing the skiffs rope and heading away from the bounders. Along the way, he taps Grymash with his healing wand (Cure Moderate Wounds - 16 hp).
Once they're more or less safely out of the bounders way, he turns to Sterlin.
"Prarie pigs are Bounder babies. Well, that's quite a twist in the thread, ain't it?"
"Which way do we go now?"
Jake Wednesday July 23rd, 2003 12:09:49 AM
Jake mumbles to nobody in particularly as he hustles along with the others, easily keeping up. "No kiddin'. Never knew where them things came from...bounders, that is. Ah know them prairie pigs seem ta come from nowhere...heck, never seems to run out of 'em, some places. Ah guess that makes sense." He falls silent, thinking that he'll never taste Milo's cookies again...and...why, that wasn't shady at all. Well, that's that... "Tha way of tha plains..."
DM Anthony Wednesday July 23rd, 2003 10:10:19 AM
Getting up on the skiff sees a good idea as the party scampers up the first of the beaten bounders re-apear, they seem cautious and careful untill they see the smaller bounders. Then giving a bark of what must mean joy they leap to the small ones and take them protectively into the pack. But then why did they wish with all intent to destroy the coccons earlier? This makes no sense.
Sterlin consentrating upon the sphere can tell the next event is to the Nort East and the sun will be gone in about 10 minutes. You will all have to camp upon the plains this evening. Not a pleasant thought, however it must be done and quickly if you want enough light to make preperations.
OOC: did flea quit too? Werre down to 5 without her and thats not good. I know we have a new one comming in soon and Grys out for only a little bit but . . . . hummmmmm . . . .
One of the people who has left in the past year left because they said they were bored and frustrated. I never nknew so if anyone else feels that way please e-mail me before quiting, or if you have ANY coments about the way the game is going please.

Sterlin Wednesday July 23rd, 2003 3:50:43 PM
"O.K., lets find a place where the grass is good and tall so we can have a hidden camp site. I suggest no fire and no noise. I'll take either watch so does anybody prefer a specific watch? Is there anyway to bring that skiff to the ground? I don't want a flag up there letting wanderers know where we are."
Sterlin takes out the crystal dagger and looks it over again. He thinks to himself that he has more to learn about the plains than he ever imagined.
Anuk d20+1=4 d20+6=25 Wednesday July 23rd, 2003 10:22:14 PM
"Shady, Sterlin. I'll take first watch," replies Anuk. "As for getting the skiff down, I think we should unload it first, then maybe we can figure out how to tip it sideways and bring it down into the grasses. We'll need to find a low area to do that."
While the others continue the discussion, Anuk scans the horizon looking for low points in the grass where they can maneuver the boat down (search 4 - bleah). Not finding anything suitable, he tries to recall how others manage to get boats down into the grasses to remain hidden (knowledge plains 25).
Jake Thursday July 24th, 2003 6:09:03 AM
Jake doesn't say much, as the others go about starting to get to rest. All he allows is, "Ah'll take the last watch." He quietly drinks from his waterskin and stares at the stars, thinking.
(Sometimes...it just sucks playing a quiet character. :P )
Trellus d20+5=18 Thursday July 24th, 2003 8:28:46 AM
"I think Gry, Jake, and I can just pull it below the grass top," Trellus offers. "We'll just need to stake the rope somehow. Who's got a stake?"
Trellus will use his feat of strength to pull the boat down below the level of the tall Grass.(STR check 18. Grymash is helping, so 20)
Knowing he's out of his element, the cleric quietly listens as the outdoor dudes plan the camp.
"So for watches, we'll go Anuk, Flea, Gilan, me, Gry, Sterlin, and Jake. Then, we'll need some time tomorrow for spells. How's that?"
OOC - Flea is still in, Carla said she'd be out and might miss a couple posts, but she'd have access most of the time.
Flea Thursday July 24th, 2003 10:09:58 AM
Flea agrees with the order of the watches and ponders the strange ways of the plains, that bounders come from prairie pigs but also devour them. Perhaps their next mission will reveal more.
[OOC sorry for the missed post...this roaming business doesn't work as well as they advertize.]
DM Anthony Thursday July 24th, 2003 10:30:07 AM
Sterlin contemplates teh dagger and the event he just witnessed and then wonders at what the next events could possibly hold.
Anuk realizes thah the only way to get the boat down is by bruit force or by cutting the grass slowly out from under it allowing it to fall slowly. The traders boats are to big to do that with and not many skiffs stay out over night. However it may be safest to post the look outs upon the skiff high above the party. Then while you can be seen from farr off, you can also see something coming a long way.
Trellus realizes that the boat hasnt budged and hell need alot more strength to pulll it down (25). Then Hes going to have to find something major to stake it to.
Flea is forgiven her tardyness, as the DM simply missed her!! SMILE
(OOC: every one please send me an updated character sheet asap, I lost them all when my comp crashed!)
Trellus Thursday July 24th, 2003 4:43:05 PM
The cleric yanks on the boat awhile, with no real effect.
"Light!", he cries.
Turning to Anuk and Sterlin, he asks, "How about we have the guard sit up there instead?"
Trellus goes to bed.
Gilan d20+4=24 d20+4=13 d20+1=21 d20+11=28 Thursday July 24th, 2003 10:45:37 PM
Gilan glances around and nods to the skiff. "You know that would make a great lookout point. It would also make a nice place to use missile fire from."
He stands from the kneeling position that he had fallen into. "Before it gets too dark I am going to do some foraging." He slips away but does not stray that far from the group.
Anuk d20+7=10 d20+6=9 d20+1=4 d20+2=15 Friday July 25th, 2003 12:38:52 AM
"On my way." Anuk scrambles up the rope, boards the skiff, and takes first watch, keeping himself as low as possible on the raft (hide 10). He keeps his eyes and ears trained on the endless grasses, looking for anything out of the ordinary. As though anything out in this light-blasted place could be considered ordinary, he thinks to himself.

Flea d20+6=12 d20+10=22 d20+8=23 Friday July 25th, 2003 9:00:35 AM
Flea fishes around in her backpack and extracts a small pouch of trail mix made up of seeds and grains native to the Plains. She munches on a handful of the stuff "I'm sure going to miss the halfling's cooking. This will have to do for now." She passes the bag to Trellus, "Here. Have some, and pass it around."
Flea takes a little nap. When Anuk wakes her, she stands her watch. (Spot=12, Search=22, Listen=23)

Gilan d20+4=7 d20+4=24 d20+1=2 Friday July 25th, 2003 11:22:34 AM
Gilan comes back to the group with a couple of prairie pigs. "Well we can have some meat if you are interested and anyone can cook?" Otherwise he will break into his rations and nibble on some of them. "Wake me for my turn at watch." He goes to sleep shortly after, wanting to get enough sleep to be well rested for his watch.
When it is his turn to take watch he will climb up to the skiff and keep a lookout. If he spots anything that will maybe cause a problem he will give a silent alert to those below.

Trellus Friday July 25th, 2003 2:15:59 PM
The cleric removes his breastplate, rolls out his bedroll out on the ground, and gets some shuteye.
Jake d20+2=10 d20+5=11 d20+2=6 Friday July 25th, 2003 2:18:20 PM
Climbing into the skiff seems like a good idea when it's his turn for a watch. As it is, Jake sleeps relaxedly without his armor on, but his sword within arm's reach. As it is, he's a bit quiet tonight, and spends most of his time approaching sleep staring at the stars...when he does wake up for his watch, he's alert and careful, putting on his armor and such. (Spot 10, Listen 11... :P )
Sterlin d20+9=25 Friday July 25th, 2003 4:19:37 PM
Sterlin agrees with everyone and uses his knowledge of wilderness lore to build a couple of small lean-to. (wilderness lore 25)
Anuk Sunday July 27th, 2003 5:14:37 PM
When his watch ends, Anuk dips quietly beneath the surface of the grass and returns to ground level. He sees the lean-to's Sterlin built and happily slides beneath one, wraps his cloak around him, and falls asleep.
Grymash Sunday July 27th, 2003 5:26:57 PM "Ggrrnph...rrkkng...*snort*...ffnngh..." The sounds of Grymash's muffled snores drift up from beneath his blanket.
DM Anthony Monday July 28th, 2003 11:04:16 AM
Sterlin realizes as hes building his lean too that the lean to isnt as important as protecting ones self from the bugs that are going to find you and your water in the night. thinking it through he devises a sort of bubble of woven grass and a woven mat to sleep on that he hopes will work. It seem that the only way they will be able to get him now is by burrowing up through the grass matt or faling on him from directly above which his blanket will hopefully protect from.
Everyone roll a spot or listen of 15 to notice Sterlin. If you fail roll a d100 for me please.
Gilan d20+4=11 d100=14 d20+4=17 d20+1=11 Monday July 28th, 2003 1:31:14 PM
In the night Gilan glances to his friends as they sleep, but he sees nothing (spot:11, d100:14). He goes on about his watch and taking care of things till someone relieves him.
He smiles as he watches (listen:17, search:11) his wasps sleep peacefully on some of the grass around. He just hopes that no harm comes to either one in his adventures to come.
Sterlin Monday July 28th, 2003 1:31:55 PM
When Sterlin is finished building his woven bug protection, he helps anyone else who needs help building something similar.
Trellus d20+8=12 d20+8=23 Monday July 28th, 2003 2:07:57 PM
Trellus lies down, casually scanning the group as he does so. He sees Sterlin doing something, but pays him no mind and shut his eyes.
Thoughts drift idly by --- Sterlin knows the most about the Grass. We're all really tired. Sterlin could be sleeping, but instead he's weaving a mat. I wonder if that's important?
The cleric's eyes pop back open. "Uh, Sterlin? What are you weaving?"
After getting the explanation, Trellus will wake everybody up and set them to work. "Dudes, no one sleeps till the bugs can't eat."
(Spot check 12, hero pt reroll - 23)
Anuk d20+6=25 Monday July 28th, 2003 7:50:20 PM
As Anuk settles down to sleep, Sterlin's movements suddenly catch his eye (spot 25). "Bug mats, eh? Makes sense."
He goes to work, following Sterlin's instructions and weaving his own protective shell.
Grymash d20+8=16 Monday July 28th, 2003 7:56:06 PM
Grymash awakes with a snort (listen 16). "What going on? What Sterlin doing?...Oh. Me make shell, too, but me need lot more grass than that to weave it." Grymash goes off a short way to gather more grass for his extra-large 'cocoon'. After he gathers enough, he gets down to the task of weaving, humming idly as he does do.
Jake d20+2=3 d100=91 Tuesday July 29th, 2003 5:59:28 AM
Jake is absolutely oblivious. (spot = 3, d100 = 91). If anyone wishes to wake him up, they can do so, but this whole piggie incident has him a bit bewildered.
Flea d20+6=12 d100=98 d20+10=11 d20+8=11 Tuesday July 29th, 2003 8:42:34 AM
Knowing that she has the second shift, Flea tries to get in a few winks. She is protected from the environment somewhat by the new leather armour provided by the council. When she takes up her watch, she scans the grass for anything unusual, while listening to the sounds of the night.
Weary from the battle, and groggy from the short nap, she does not take in much.
Spot-12, Search-11, Listen-11
DM Anthony Tuesday July 29th, 2003 10:41:41 AM
Gilan realizes that in the short time he spent on the gound he has already attracted 4 blood ticks, luckaly none of them had time to attach or he would have had a very hard day with feaver and weakness then next day. Luckaly they seem repled by the split grass and cant seem to climb it either. Only the flying pests now bother you, and there are plenty of those. It it not a restful night as you are bitten and buzed and stug all night long. At one point it sounds as if something very large actualy . . . swam? . . . through the grass near you and then the sounds of it eating the prarie pig meat left in the circle is heard. Then finnaly it is morning.
Trellus (Endure Elements) Tuesday July 29th, 2003 11:48:46 AM
Trellus wearily rises. Grass biting bugs
Giving a bleary eyed look to Gilan and Sterlin, he asks "Dudes, either of you got a Go Away Bugs spell?" The young man forces a grin to show he's only half serious.
"Ok, I gotta pray. Milo, whats for breakfast?" Trellus freeezes as he realizes what he's said.
Milo's gone.
The cleric's shoulders slump, and he quietly shuffles off a few feet for his morning meditation.
Trellus immediately casts the Endure Elements on himself. Lets see if that handles the sunblasted heat he growls internally.
Then, he grabs some grub, and follows Sterlin on their journey to the next 'event',
Gilan [AC: 18, endure elements] d20+17=30 d20+10=25 d20+6=18 d20+1=7 d20+6=10 Tuesday July 29th, 2003 1:31:51 PM
Gilan smiles to Trellus and shakes his head. "Sorry no bug be gone spell." He slips off to do some communing with nature and other things.
When he comes back he breaks out some of his rations and eats a little, washing it down with water being careful not to spill any. "So what direction did we need to go?" He seems more awake now and ready for the trek. He takes the time to cast endure elements on himself to help with the plain's conditions. He sends Tiev and Zilia out to do some scouting and see what they can find or spot. "Anyone else want an endure elements...I have one extra learned this morning??"
As he moves out with the rest of the group he ponders over some of his nature sense and tries to remember something that will help at night with the bugs. He knows that there should be a grass that will help if he can only remember (knowledge, nature: 25). He keeps his eyes open for not only tracks but for a form of grass that will help with the bugs and the bites (survival: 30). He tries to keep his senses tuned in with were they are so that he can spot trouble too (listen: 18, search: 7, spot: 10).
Flea d20+10=28 d20+8=12 Tuesday July 29th, 2003 6:53:41 PM
Flea rubs at the bites behind her ears, and along her hairline, and when she brings her hand back realises that the nasty plains insects have drawn blood. She tries to tidy herself up a little, straightening her clothes and armour. Before heading out with the rest of the group, she gives one last search of the area (Search=28) and listens for anything that might be out there (Listen=12).
Tiev and Zilia d20+9=24 d20+9=14 Tuesday July 29th, 2003 6:57:09 PM

Anuk d20+6=19 d20+6=21 d20+2=20 d20+1=2 Wednesday July 30th, 2003 2:29:46 AM
Anuk awakes, bleary-eyed, his brown curls matted and looking more than a little goofy.
"Morning, all," he says as he begins to gather his things. He thinks about the sounds he heard in the night--particularly the "swimming"--and wonders what kind of creature could have made them (knowledge plains 19). He stares off in the distance, imagining all manner of beasts as a smile crosses his face.
When his possesions are packed, he spends some time thinking over the spell memorization process he recently learned. With some effort, he manages to prepare a spell he hopes will be helpful to the pack today (Pass Without Trace).
"Ummm...if anyone is interested, I've still got an empty spell stone here. If anyone wants to store anything, we can do it. Maybe tonight, if anyone's got any 'unused' magic left."
Finally, he also takes a last look around before they head to their next destination (spot=21, listen=20).
Suddenly, he discovers tracks -- human tracks -- circling the encampment. "Everyone! Someone was here last night!!" he yells excitedly. "From the looks of it, they made a pretty thorough inspection of the camp. See they were here by our sleeping area...and again, by the raft...and here by the...ummm...oh. Uh...never mind...those are my tracks." (search=2 another natural 1 - bleah.)
Grymash Wednesday July 30th, 2003 2:47:44 AM
Grymash gets up, grumpy. He sulks as he prepares for the day, stowing his equipment in his pack. "Me miss Milo...miss cookies, too."
Finally, he decides to go off for some meditation, hoping it will improve his mood. (prepares Create Water, Cure Minor Wounds, Read Magic, Cure Light Wounds, and Expeditious Retreat).
Jake Wednesday July 30th, 2003 3:55:39 AM
Jake wakes up and gets up slowly, taking his sweet time. He looks around the plains, feeling somewhat strange at waking up not in the town. It's so alien and yet...he looks around, seeing his pack brothers and smiles slightly. At least they're here, too...
DM Anthony Wednesday July 30th, 2003 5:20:06 PM
Trellus wishing Milo was still there only reminds him that this is a deadly deadly place and that they need to asct together as a team of one mind or they could all wind up like that. However he is begning to find that it is alos a magical wonderful place as well.
Gilan rembers that there is supposed to be a very small red grass, it grows no more than 5 feet tall that if you shave off the outer skin of is supposed to repel incects, but it also dyes your skin redish gold until you can wash.
There is also a green spiky grass that will help with bug bites to relieve the itching and draw the posion up, if beatnen to a pulp and alyed as a poltice. Both species of grass are found during the days hike.
Flea finds nothing of any intrest in her serches before leaving.
Grymash prepares for the day...
It strikes both Jake and Anuk how little they know about the plains, on fact after having been raised inside the confined city in which no one is allowed to talk about whats outside, its amazing you know anything. Anuk heard a wispered conversation once about something that could swim through the grass but the sailors had called it a shark and were escorted out of town before they could say more. There is sooo much you all dont know, perhaps thats why you were sent, to realize how sheltered and protected you all have been until now.
You spend half a day travaling until you hear something from up ahead, it sounds like screaming and coughing. As if someoine were in trouble and were too week to fight off what ever it is.
Flea d20+23=28 d20+10=11 Wednesday July 30th, 2003 8:56:28 PM
Pulling out her shortsword, the rogue slides past her comrades towards the sounds of someone or something in obvious distress. She is carefull to stay hidden (Hide=28) while scanning her surroundings (Search=11) for anything that might pose a danger.
Trellus Wednesday July 30th, 2003 9:12:00 PM
As Flea slides past, Trellus quietly invokes Domi's Protective Ward on her.
(Domain skill. +4 on next save, lasts one hour or until used)
Then, he quietly points to Grymash, Gilan, and Jake. "Three columns" he whispers, and steps in behind the druid.
Sterlin Wednesday July 30th, 2003 9:41:42 PM
Sterlin casts barkskin upon himself and moves ahead cautiously with the rest. He checks his compass to see that they are still following the correct direction.
Grymash Wednesday July 30th, 2003 9:53:52 PM
Grymash's mood improves as the day wears on. When they hear the screaming, he nods at Trellus and moves to the head of a column, anxious to find out what the pack is facing next. "What making all that noise? Sound painful. Or maybe fun! *hee hee hee*" He chuckles at his own joke as he grips his double axe with both hands.
"If trouble begin, Grymash need help from someone. Maybe cast barkskin, or something else to help protect Gry."
Anuk d20+6=9 d20+2=16 Wednesday July 30th, 2003 10:02:16 PM
At the sound of the screams, Anuk's bow is instantly in his hands. He falls in line behind Jake and peers ahead, wondering what strange sight is in store for them.
"Whaddya think Jake," he whispers. "Think maybe the bounders turn into somethin' else after they're done being bounders?"
As the pack steals cautiously forward he keeps an eye and ear out for trouble.
(spot 9, listen 16)
Jake Thursday July 31st, 2003 1:57:09 AM
Jake blinks at Anuk's suggestion. "Well, ah...ah...come ta think of it, ah ain't never seen no baby bounders. Tho ah have seen some small'r uns." Jake draws his sword and shield, just in case it's something...
DM Anthony Thursday July 31st, 2003 10:43:27 AM
as you all creep foreward you finnaly come to a small man made clearing. Inside the claeing a small yourng halfling is tied and gaged. he is having a strange red smoke bloown into his face as 5 men laugh at him and continue to ask him where something is. 6 large burlap sacks are scatterd throughout the site.
Trellus Thursday July 31st, 2003 12:00:37 PM
Trellus barely manages to stop himself from just walking on out there and stomping all five of those whitehanded treadles himself.
Instead, he taps Grymash and Sterlin and indicates circling to the right. Then he taps Anuk and Flea and indicates circling to the left.
Then he counts to 60, and steps boldly into the clearing, and calls out sternly, "Dudes, THAT is a totally bright-faced game you're playing, and I think you should stop. Now."
Gilan [AC: 18, endure elements] Thursday July 31st, 2003 2:05:32 PM
Gilan takes some time to gather some of both plants and store them in two different specialty pouches for this purpose. He would work on them later for everyone.
When they hear the screams in the distance he takes one of the column heads as Trellus comments about three columns. He takes the time to cast barkskin on Grymash and then will cast one on himself. Nodding to Trellus he steps out the same time and plants his scimitar's point easily into the ground. "What did the halfling do that deserves this treatment?"
Sterlin (barkskin ac: 19 ) d20+4=18 Thursday July 31st, 2003 8:21:09 PM
Sterlin makes his way around to the right, attempting to move silently. (silent roll 18)
Anuk d20+7=27 Thursday July 31st, 2003 9:08:48 PM
Anuk edges toward the clearing until he knows he has a clean shot at the men in the clearing. He stops, blending perfectly with his surroundings (hide 27 - nat 20!), arrow nocked and ready.
Grymash (barkskin, AC: 22) Thursday July 31st, 2003 9:21:55 PM
Grymash steps out of the grass and into the clearing, towering over the others. The sight of the halfling bound and in pain makes his heart beat faster and his blood begin to surge.
Planting both feet firmly on the ground and brandishing his axe, he addresses the man nearest the little victim. "Me only ask one time...what little friend do to you!?"
Jake d20+2=9 d20+2=18 Thursday July 31st, 2003 10:20:24 PM
Jake hangs out by Trellus and watches the others all be intimidating. Heck, nothing he can add here. He shrugs and keeps his weapons ready, though he holds back, and keeps watch of the back, listening for anything weird. (Spot 9, Listen 18)
Vestrati Thursday July 31st, 2003 10:57:08 PM
Vestrati shakes his head back and forth trying to evade the tendrils of smoke but to little avail. The gag and the smoke have combined forces in an attempt to weaken his resolve. As the smoke continues to assault his nose Vestrati begins to feel woozy, but realizing he can't give in to anything his assailants do to him he shrugs it off and his features turn to steel, a wall of resolve is etched on his features, he won't let himself cave.
Flea (Protective Ward +4) d20+11=18 d20+23=32 Friday August 1st, 2003 7:33:00 AM
As Flea passes by Trellus she experinces a familiar sensation. Her anxiety lifts, and she experiences a sense of confidence. The gnome nods in silent acknowledgement at the gift the cleric has bestowed on her. She creeps along the perimeter of the encampment on quiet feet (Move Silently=18) as she stows her short sword, and takes up her short bow. The rogue remains invisible(Hide=32)in the grasses as she takes a place to one side of the camoflaged ranger, further extending the circle around the bullies' encampment.

Gilan [AC: 20/21 (endure elements, barkskin+2, dodge+1)] Friday August 1st, 2003 1:35:53 PM
Gilan shakes his head with the answer that he is given and pulls back up his scimitar. "why is it that they all must make this so hard." He keeps close to Trellus as four of the thugs get up. "Trellus...want to work together like Jake and I did earlier?" He figures that the two of them working together will make things go quicker.
He sends his wasps off to scout out the area and see if there are anymore of these thugs around or anything else that they may need to know about.

To confuse the enemy, Flea quietly moves from her spot (Move Silently=20)seeking an opportunity to flank one of the ruffians, with Anuk as her partner, or whomever from the Blood Pack is in the best position to do so.
She wonders to herself at the uncouth behaviour of these humans who would stoop so low as to skin fellow beings, let alone individuals they perceive to be children. This is evil of the worst kind and unpardonable. She makes a silent vow to show no mercy towards these men.

Vestrati is no longer tied and is keeping that fact hidden from the thugs, he hopse.
Trellus spell seems to take no effect what so ever as the man shakes it off as if it werent there (23 nat 20)
The Entangle spell goes off catching 3 of the men but not the other two as there is no living vegitation in their area due to the cookfire and stomping about. Vestrati however is not entangled it will however slow him greatly should he choose to move.
Jake turning his back on the mess of combat dosent see anything but can still hear it to his left, or maybe right??
Gry charges foreward but then suddenly is stopped short by the entangle spell. (1)
Anuk fires at the entangled man hoping it will be easier to hit him than any so he shoots #3 striking true and angering the man further ad the arrow protrudes from his ches and he bleeds. (OOC please use a number from the map if you wish to hit someone specific or I have to guess.)

Trellus (AC 18, endure elements, Seal +1 to hit, feat of strength) d20+10=18 d8+4=8 Wednesday August 6th, 2003 8:09:08 AM
Trellus mentally activates a Seal, giving everyone a +1 to hit bonus this round.
Should've kept us together he muses.
Praying to Domi for additional strength, the cleric steps beside Gilan, and slams #5 with his heavy mace.
"Let's drop this guy fast, Gilan"
(Feat of Strength +4 Str Hit AC 18 for 8 hp damage)
DM Anthony : PC Reactions : Round 2 Wednesday August 6th, 2003 10:58:23 AM
Jake charges and scores a good hit as he feels his blade sink into this man, the way they are behaving and the way they are dressed seem to make you all rember something..... Raiders, these must be raiders....
Vestrati targets 1 and 2 seeing that there is no way he can get all three in and make sure he got them. However as the spell goes off he is quickly sadened by not taking that chance as 1 and 2 quickly shake off the spell as they are to old for it to work on them. (both over 4 hd)
Anuk again tags the helpless man in the entangle spell. with the first arrow striking true due to the mans entangled state. (no worries im sorry I missed it, tring to keep up with combat on line is a bear)
Grymash esaly steps back out of the plants and frees himself.
Trellus feels his mace ring off the mans armor doing no damage but clearly making him angry.
(OOC: if you missed posting cause i posted earlier today then ill make it up to you I promise!!!)

Man #2 repeats the action this time aimed at Terellus
Man #3 struggles and bleeds
Man #4 turns to attack Jake missing with the first hit but almost cutting very deep with the second. (missed Crit for 5 dam)
Man #5 attacks Gilan his blade does bite deep hawever, cutting into the bone, the second attack glances off. (15 dam)
Then disaster almost hits as a man #6 suddenly appears behind Trellus. The mans quick blade slides in between ribs and all coming inches away from his heart. (missed critical backstab 14 dam)
Then Sterlin, Anuk, and flea fel and see something about the grass change, the wind has been blowing all day however this is new, there is a strange cracckle about it and it seems to be sticking together like magic or something.... (Those three please make a Knowldge Plains check if you have it!)
Trellus (AC 18, endure elements, casting defensively) d20+8=12 d20+8=24 d20+11=24 d8=8 Wednesday August 6th, 2003 12:38:56 PM
Trellus is surprised his attack fails.
And then the spell cast by #2 closes in on him, but he manages to fight it off. (Will save 12, hero point to re-roll, save 24)
But, then he feels the blade in his back. LIGHT! his mind screams out in pain.
Gilan's hurt, and we're all split up, and these guys are too strong, and we're in a lot of trouble.
Whirling around to get his shield up on #6, Trellus throws a spell between #1 and #2.
(Sound Burst cast defensively Concentration check 24 vs DC 17 to avoid AAO) If can't catch both in the 10' radius, will try for just #2. 8 hp damage and Will Save 16 or stunned one round.)
"Jake! A little help here!"
Sterlin d20+3=18 Wednesday August 6th, 2003 1:25:47 PM
Sterlin runs through his knowledge of the plains to see if he realizes what is happening.
(knowledge plains check: 18)
Gilan [AC: 20/21 (endure elements, barkskin+2, dodge+1)] d20+8=20 d6+2=5 d20+8=19 d6+2=5 Wednesday August 6th, 2003 5:11:21 PM
Gilan lets out a scream as the blade bits into bone. He falls back a little and then hears Trellus's scream beside him. His mind flashes through a bunch of different events as he wonders how they are to make it out of this.
He brings his own scimitar cutting in at the man trying to buy some time for the group. They need to organize quickly if they hope to win.
Vestrati Wednesday August 6th, 2003 6:43:03 PM
Stuck in the midst of the entagled area and unarmed Vestrati has few options available. Under the circumstances he makes his choice. Weaving his hands in more arcane gestures he targets the man by the fire (#2) and a globe of light shoots from his hands towards the target.
(OOC: Magic Missile at #2)
Anuk (AC 20) d20+10=23 d8+3=8 d8+6=10 d20+6=13 Wednesday August 6th, 2003 9:13:04 PM
A third arrow sings as Anuk fires again at the entangled man (Man #3 - hits AC 23 for 8 pts). Sensing the sudden change in the grasses around him, Anuk says, "Flea, I think maybe we oughta get outta here before we're baked!" With that, he runs quickly forward to the edge of the clearing.
Anuk (edit) Wednesday August 6th, 2003 9:17:51 PM
(OOC: rolled Knowledge Plains 13 above. Man, I gotta read my posts more closely before I hit submit.)
Grymash (barkskin, AC 22) d20+4=7 Wednesday August 6th, 2003 9:34:49 PM
A grim smile breaks across Gry's face as he tears himself free from the vegetation. He turns in time to see Trellus and Gilan attacked and bloodied. As his anger rises, he prepares to charge the attackers with his axe when he...can't. (will save 7) He stands perfectly still, unable to do anything but watch as the fight continues.
Flea (Protective Ward +4, Seal +1) d20+10=22 d6+1=6 Wednesday August 6th, 2003 11:51:29 PM
Flea looses another deadly arrow at man #3, or the most logical enemy raider if Anuk's attack has ended the man's life. She knows little of the ways of the plains, but when the ranger steps from the grasses and calls to her, the gnome follows suit.
Hit AC 22 for 6 points of damage (+8 regular arrows, +1 Trellus' Seal *one round only*, +1point blank shot to attack and damage, precise shot if in melee)

DM Anthony : PC Reactions : Round 3 d20+3=22 d20+3=10 d4=4 Thursday August 7th, 2003 11:39:55 AM
Trellus realizes all his thoughts are right, the tatic was smart to try and encircle them but they were clearly ready for that to happen and now . . . well now they could be in big trouble. Man #1 and #2 are both shocked and take damage but only #2 fails his save and is stunned.
Sterlin remebers something about the grass rubbing the right way in the right wind and building up electrical charges,, lighting storms in the grass, but that cant be right can it... in response to his question the sound grows and he sees a spark pop in front of his eyes. Everyone in the grass feels the small hairs on their neck stand up just a tiny bit.
Gilan's second attack misses however his first one strikes home, they are going to need to work together to finish this.
Vestrati fires a magic missile off and strikes Man #2
Anuk slays Man #3 but cant rember anything about the grass or the plains thatseems relavant, how ever there is a strange poping noise coming from the grass every once and a while.
Flea moves her attack to an #6 as both Terellus and Gilan look bad.

Vestrati d100=66 d20=10 Thursday August 7th, 2003 7:31:44 PM
Stuck in the mass of grass Vestrati tries to make his way to the nearest sac to see if any of his gear is inside that might prove useful considering he is unarmed.
(OOC: If there are any sacs within 15' vestrati will go toward them, jumping if possible (Jump 12). He will not go to a bag if it gets him within range of any of the men's melee attacks. If the sacs are not close enough he will try to walk out of the entangled area and into the thick grass)
Flea (AC 28, Protective Ward +4) d20+9=19 d20+9=17 d6+1=3 Thursday August 7th, 2003 10:30:09 PM
From the edge of the clearing Flea spies her arrow hit it's mark. Regardless, the man continues his assault on the young cleric of Domi. The gnome struggles to calm her emotions with a deep breath as she draws back the string of her bow. Before loosing the arrow at the man(#6), she mutters under her breath "Domi guide this arrow, for Trellus' sake."
Hit AC 19 for 3 points damage.
(OOC: Ignore second d20 roll, sensitive keyboard on the laptop.)
Gilan [AC: 20/21 (endure elements, barkskin+2, dodge+1)] d20+9=19 d6+2=3 Thursday August 7th, 2003 10:46:46 PM
Gilan keeps his eyes on the man in front of him hoping that Trellus can hold out. He hears Trellus begin casting and once again hopes that he has good luck. "Guys...the one on one situation over here is not good...a little help please."
Swinging his own scimitar at the man in front of him he tries to hold him off till help can arrive. His mind reels with the fact that his attack had just been side-stepped and he missed. This does not bode well for him, but it will bide time.

Jake (Charging, Whooping Ceil, AC 21 [19 while charging]) d20+8=25 d20+8=19 d10+4=12 d10+4=12 Friday August 8th, 2003 1:33:22 AM
Jake sees the guy attacking the helpless Grymash and sighs. Even though he's having a terrific fight with this #4 guy right now, he can't just let a friend get killed while helpless under some stupid magic...Even if it means leaving a fight, looking like a coward, to one of these stupid raider guys...
Jake turns away from combat with the nightsoil dude, (exposing himself to a free attack of opportunity) and charges straight at the #1 guy about to hack into Grimmy, putting all of his strength behind a single attack. (Power attack -5, activating Ceil's Whooping Seal for a +1 to hit/+4 to critical modifier...)
(I'm sorry, I currently am cut off from the internet, and using a different computer. I know my rewritten character (now a fighter level four) has a +10 to hit (+4 from his strength, +4 from level, +1 from focus, +1 from masterwork sword), and he has an AC of 21 when using the shield. I'll try to send you my character sheet when I get my computer back.)
[This message had to be reprinted twice, due to stupid computer.]
(I used a hero point btw. Hit AC 25, within critical threat with the Ceil's whooping thing, AC 19 for the critical. I did 1d10+4 +5 (power attack) +2 (specialization) or 19 damage on the regular hit, 31 damage on the critical. And the blood goes flying. Oh, and if he tries to coop de gras Grymash [A full round action], then I get an attack of opportunity on him!)
Grymash (barkskin, AC 20, rage) d20+10=26 d20+10=18 d8+10=16 d8+5=10 d20+9=25 Friday August 8th, 2003 1:50:33 AM
Grymash stands there frozen like a statue, awaiting the death blow. He sees the raider get closer and closer. Everything is moving in slow motion. The sounds of battle and the screams of his pack sounds soft and muffled. All he can hear is his heart beat. Louder and louder it pounds in his chest. Grymash strains against his own stillness. His muscles tense and gorged with his blood become hard and taut.
Suddenly he begins to shake, his eyes widen with feral maddness. As the raider approaches Grymash the unexpected happens. The eye of Gargul, on his buckler, begins to radiate a brilliant light. A sight known by all in the pack as a beaming omen to Grymash's rage.
(used a hero point to re-roll the savethrow in a private post. successful)
"AAUUUGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!," roars Grymash as he comes back to life in front of the surprised raider. "GRY SAY IT WRITTEN WHEN MY EYE LOOK UPON WICKED MEN," Grymash steps forward to meet the raider, his axe whistles as it cuts through the air, "SHALL I STRIKE HE DOWN WITH MOST BLOODY VENGENCE AND SERVE AS MEAT FOR LORD GARGUL'S TABLE...AUGHHHH AND... UHH... GRY SAY IT DINNER TIIMMEEE!!!!... AAUUGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!"
Grymash swings into the raider with his double axe. (Hit AC 26 and 18. Damage: 16 and 10 for a total of 26 points)
With a booming grisly voice, Grymash bellows, "WHO NEXT ... GARGUL WAITS FOR YOOOOOU!!!!"
Gry tries to show off his strength to the other raiders, with the example he made with his current combatant, in order to intimidate them. (Intimidation check 25.)
DM Anthony : PC Reactions : Round 4 d20+3=6 d2=1 d2=1 Friday August 8th, 2003 11:41:22 AM
Trellus in a panic and fear tries to seperate the combatants fighting he and his friends, casting his spell and directing the thug to run he feels the magic takehold and turn the mans heart to ice as he turns wide eyed and runs into the grass, however once the spell wears off he will be back...
Sterlin feels the hairs on the back of his neck clearly standing up now and can see the grass rubbing together building up charge. He casts his spell and centers it on Man#1 and suddenly a swarm of flying biting incests swarm about the man biting and clawing. However Graymash may be in part of the swarm too.
Vestrati leans down to pick up the nearest bag to open it and notices that he to has become entangled in the mass of writhing grasses, unable to move any farther he is stuck with this bag, it holds weapons and armor, any that he had is within the bag.
Flea missis with her arrow but it seems that Domi was watching out for his Cleric as the spell the young man cast was effective and the ma has fled into the grass, temporairly. However Gilan faces a similat foe and is in similar straights.
Gilan too misses his attack, becoming desprate he seems to let focus drift, he knows he is barely missing but cant seem to place the strike right where he needs it.
Anuk's arrow flies true, striking the Wasp eswarmed man in the arm holding the knife.
Jake while missing the critical hit does massive damage, then in the same instant Gry comes alive and seems to help Jake split the man in two killing the thug, as his torso falls over dead he seems to cures at you all in some unknown language. Luckly both Gry and Jake keep out of the swarm.

Sifting through the sack at his feat Vestrati draws forth his light crossbow from the bag and loads a bolt into it, readying himself to fire at the men around him.
As Vestrati loads the bolt into the crossbow he begins to hear a strange sound borne aloft by the wind and becomes unnerved, something is about to happen, with Vestrati's luck something bad (Listen 19).
Sterlin (barkskin ac 19) d20+3=6 d20+3=5 Friday August 8th, 2003 8:45:12 PM
Sterlin does not hear the crackle and pop, however he can feel his hair standing up as the charge in the grass around him builds up. He fears that some type of electric storm may be developing and begins thinking again about anything he may know about such storms and how t survive them. ( 6 on listen, 5 on knowledge sargrass plains. sterlin had a moment of ignorance)

Returning from their reconnaissance of the grasses, the two wasps make for the druid. Smelling Gilan's blood, the insects react instinctively, diving at the raider(#5) who wounded their friend. The attack of the larger wasp is followed in quick succession by that of it's smaller mate.
Tiev-Hit AC 20 for 7 points of damage, plus poison Zilia-Hit AC 18 for 8 points of damage, plus poison
Gilan [AC: 18/19 (endure elements, barkskin+2, dodge+1, -2AC entangled)] d20+3=12 Friday August 8th, 2003 11:04:03 PM
Gilan struggles against the grass as it winds itself around him. He felt like he might have it made until the arrow slams into his chest. He grunts under the impact and feels his life slowly flooding out of his body.
He watches as Tiev and Zilia fly to his defense and he smiles. He hopes that they can find a happy life. The beginings of blackness start to clutch at his soul and he fights wanely to keep on his feet.

The gnome manages to evade the ensnaring vegetation (Reflex Save=20) and is acutely aware that something is not right in the tall grasses surrounding the combatants (Listen=26.) Moving a little further into the clearing, Flea once again prepares her bow. This time she selects an arrow fletched with red, and her target is the brute (#5) attacking Gilan. As the arrow flies true, the rogue mutters under her breath, "Take that you white handed treadle."
Seeing Anuk nearby, she calls out, "Sorry, but I've been a bit of a wallflower this dance!" Then with a wink, "Maybe the next one?"

Sterlin (barkskin ac 19) d20+8=27 Sunday August 10th, 2003 2:20:01 PM
Sterlin rethink his knowledge of the plains.

Anuk (AC 20) d20+2=19 d20+5=16 d20+10=12 d8+3=6 Monday August 11th, 2003 12:12:49 AM
Anuk breathes a sigh of relief at the sight of Grymash moving. He cocks an ear and realizes that the strange crackling noise he hears is coming from the grasses (listen 19).
While his attention is turned, the grass at his feet springs upward again, the result of the entanglement spell. Anuk moves deftly, avoiding the tendrils trying to grasp him (reflex 16). He looks up in time to see Gilan fall to the ground. Bow still in hand, he fires at the attacker, but the constant movement he makes to avoid being trapped cause him to miss (hits AC 12 for 6 pts).
Trellus (AC 18, endure elements, unconstricting movement) d20+1=20 d20+7=9 2d8(4+8)+4=16 Monday August 11th, 2003 8:54:09 AM
The normally slow cleric manages to spring free of the entangling vines. (Reflex 20!)
Seeing the arrow slam into Gilan, Trellus ignores everything but getting to his friend. (Listen check failed, 9).
An unasked for thought floats freely through his mind This is getting to be a habit
Trellus can only grin at his own silent remark as he activates his Seal of Unconstricting Movement, closes in on Gilan, and revives the man with Domi's healing hand.
(Spontaneously casting Cure Moderate Wounds over Aid. Healed 16 hp)
(Unconstricting Movement Seal - The seal, once broken, enables the user to move and attack normally for 5 minutes, even under the influence of magic that usually impedes movement, such as hold person, paralysis, solid fog, slow and web spells.)
Grymash (Rage, AC 20, Barkskin, Freedom of Movement) d20+4=11 d20+7=21 d20+4=13 Monday August 11th, 2003 10:03:18 AM
Grymash roars in the face of Jake in celebration. All of a sudden the grasses begin to tangle around his legs and hold him in place. (Reflex save 11 fail)
Grymash then begins to rip and tear at the blades of grassing holding him (Strength check 21). In his rage, (not needing concentration) he shouts, "LET GRY GO, ME SAY IN GARGUL'S NAME!!!" (Travel domain granted power - Freedom of Movement, 1 round only)
If the grasses let go from the FOM or his strength rips him from the grasses hold he will join Jake off to the side to face the other raider.
(Listen check 13 failed)
ADM Mikey - Pause Tuesday August 12th, 2003 3:00:19 AM
(Pause on this combat round... Just a heads up. Anthony'll be back soon enough. :) )
Flea d20+6=19 Tuesday August 12th, 2003 12:43:55 PM
When there is a pause in the action, Flea uses the opportunity to look at the stranger who was being held by the raiders. He doesn't look like an evil bad guy...she thinks to herself. She can make out that he is small, like herself, but not a dwarf or a gnome. Maybe a halfling? And what was he doing waving his arms around in the air? Was he casting spells? She squints in the bright sunlight (Spot=19) burning down from above, "Milo?" she calls tentatively, hoping it is the lost companion.
DM Anthony Tuesday August 12th, 2003 2:30:45 PM
Suddenly the air if full of birds, hundres upon thousands of birds all fleeing before the wind. A black powder or dust from the birds seems to float down over the party as they look up watching the screeching cacophany of sound wheel off to the north, then the giant flock of birds seems to wheel in the air and twist, performing amazing ariel acrobatics fleeing from . . . the sound of heavy large wings is heard and suddenly into the limited sky above you see what looks like a HUGE worm or snake, but with wings, its mouth open wide swallowing the birds in giant glups and crunches, the teeth of the beast larger than Flea. However the men seeing the giant creature cry out a name and flee in to the grass screaming to the south. The Wyrm sees you and wheels to come in and scoop you all up into its mouth as well, hunger driving this giant beast of the plains. When at the last minute as you all see death in its huge mouth it suddenly turns its black eyes to the south and then whips around in a tight spiral and turns back to the north. it is now that all can hear the cracckle and pop of what sounds like electric discharges. The Sterlin suddenly remebers a story from a sailor in his youth he happened to overhear. This must be an electric storm, a rare one of the plains made from static built up in the grasses and the wind. Suddenly he knows that if the stories are trye that anyone touching any grass in the next five minutes will be fried alive. Luckly this clearing is here, unluckaly it is till alive with grass cut short and entangling people.
Combat is over.
Trellus ( AC 18, endure elements, unconstricting movement) 2d8(2+8)+3=13 Tuesday August 12th, 2003 5:13:06 PM
Trellus stands with mouth agape as the monstrous...whatever...bears down on them and then suddenly veers off.
"Anuk?" he says quietly into the resulting silence. "I think you got to see your Moth."
"And Domi help us if we see it again."
After taking a moment or two to get all his organs functioning properly again, Trellus gets out a healing wand and taps himself with it. (Cure Moderate Wounds - heal 13 hp)
"Gilan, are you OK?"
Vestrati Tuesday August 12th, 2003 6:01:25 PM
Vestrati stands with his crossbow in hand looking around at those around him in the clearing. "I thank you for your help friends, but its hardly the time for introductions, we'd best get out of here and fast."
Vestrati quickly gathers up his equipment, tying his armor to his backpack, there's no time to don it now. "Anyone have any ideas? I wonder if the sacks might help guard us?"
OOC: I am driving cross country from thursday to the 20th, will anyone be able to post for me during this time? (Email jmoyer@usc.edu please)
Anuk d20+6=21 Tuesday August 12th, 2003 6:42:13 PM
Dumbstruck, Anuk stares up into the sky until the flying giant is gone from view. Then he stares some more. "Light," he mutters feebly. "I had no idea." This is a memory that will stay with him for a long, long time.
The crackle of electricity in the grass brings him back to the present. His brow furrows as he thinks, hoping for some inspiration on protecting everyone (Knowledge Plains 21). "Can we get the boat down here in the clearing and get everyone on it til the storm passes? That may offer some protection since we'll be off the grass."

Flea d20+10=23 d20+1=16 Tuesday August 12th, 2003 9:33:01 PM
Flea gapes as first the flock of birds, and then the great worm momentarily darken the sky. As soon as the raiders flee, she takes the opportunity to search the bodies of the ones killed in combat for any swag (Search 23).
She looks askance at the halfling stranger, as he dons his gear, ready to depart the clearing. "I'd stay out of the tall grass if I were you. It's safer here in the clearing." When Anuk suggests using the skiff the gnome answers, "That sounds like a good idea, ranger! And, maybe Sterlin's shady compass will show the direction to take?" On her way to the boat, Flea offers her assitance to any of the Blood Pack still entangled in the grass.
[OOC: Flea will aid another=16, provides +2 bonus to anyone trying to escape the grass affected by the raider's entangle spell.]
