DM Jan Tuesday September 30th, 2003 1:28:05 AM
Vorelle crouches alongside Ba'Bac and does a pretty good job of staunching the half orc's bleeding. Olyn pulls out his bag to store anything that might be found on the enemies' persons - there was obviously two longbows, and a dagger from the bowmen, and Ba'Bac's longsword - but what else?
Just in case, Cade and Zayne take opposite sides of the street, and Devlin attempts to get back on the roof. He isn't succesful this time, but there was a body up there to be searched and taken care of.
The carriage stops in front of Theodore - about 40 yards down the gloomy street, and the driver looks down suspiciously at the mage. "Whaddya want?" he demands, and then cocks an ear at what Theo has to say. "What - think ah were born yesterday?" As the sound drifts toward him, he pauses and then steels his resolve. "Aye, an' no doubt you've already mugged that one, too. Now hop it, young 'un - and don't waste my time."
With a snap of reins - the carriage moves off, and by the time it passes the alley opening, Vauhwyt has managed to conceal everyone and their quarry behind the barrels in the alley's dark shadows. No doubt Cade and Zayne are glad there is no further combat, as they are both torn and bleeding.
Are there answers to be had here? Lets see.
Theodore d20+7=22 Tuesday September 30th, 2003 2:24:22 PM
After the carriage has passed, Theodore rushes back to the group now hidden away in an alley. Obviously concerned for his friends, he checks to make sure that everyone is alright.
After assisting in bandaging, or the easing of pain, Theodore stands off from Ba'Bac and chants to himself:
Pulse of Life, Web of Death Show to Me your Magic Breath
(Cast Detect Magic on Ba'Bac to discern any items or auras in the half-orcs possession. Spellcraft check = 22)
Vauhwyt Tuesday September 30th, 2003 4:08:04 PM
The liontaur smiles at Vorelle's bandaging job. "Good work," she says.
She looks around to see how injured Cade and Zayne are. She asks Olyn, "Good cleric, can you help our wounded friends, and then perhaps spare a little healing to bring this half-orc awake?"
Vauhwyt ties up the half orc as snugly as she can. Then she quickly pounds two pitons into one of the walls of the alley -- one piton up quite high and one at the ground. The one up high she reaches by placing her back legs firmly on the ground; she sets her forelegs up on the wall and stretches up with her arms above her head.
She ties her block and tackle to the piton up high. Then she ties the half-orc's feet to a rope that leads up to the block and tackle. His wrists she ties to the piton low down. It is clear, if she manages to set this up correctly, that she will be able to hoist the half-orc up feet first into the air. And if she keeps pulling, with his wrists tied to the ground, the most excellent Ba'Bac will end up taller than he started.
If anyone looks at her funny, Vauhwyt shrugs and says, "I'm not really going to torture him. This is just to scare him into talking. Maybe he'll tell us about the plot on Sarla's life. If he does, great. If not, too bad. Either way, after we are done, I'll kill him quickly and quietly. Which is better than he deserves."
Devlin d20-1=17 Tuesday September 30th, 2003 4:10:10 PM
Quite glad that his unsuccessful scaling of the building didn't cause any alarm or expose his companions, Devlin takes another shot at it as he tries to see to the body above and any possessions there. With more time and focus, he easily scales the walls and finds himself on the roof again. He moves over to search the bodies and gather anything of interest from them.
Zayne d20+4=24 d20+4=11 d20+4=5 Tuesday September 30th, 2003 4:26:54 PM
Walking over to the down half orc he begins to search him for any hidden weapons,(search 24 natural 20!!) As he checks the ropes(to make sure they are secure,(use rope 11)and idea strikes him.
"Maybe we should take him to the apartments we were provided, that way we can take our time with him." Eyeing Vauhwyt's invention, then taking his dagger and cutting a couple strips of cloth from the unconcious orc's clothing and stuffing one in his mouth,.and using the other to tight( rope use 5)
Olyn d20+7=23 d20+7=11 d20+7=11 d20+7=21 d20+2=20 Tuesday September 30th, 2003 4:49:05 PM
turning to Vauhwyt Olyn remarks: after you get or not get the information you need, don't kill him. I am sure a certain father we all know would love to have his mitts on him for 5 minutes. and I can't think of a more fitting death to him than at the hands of someones father.
turning back to our 2 hurt comrades, Olyn pulls out his healers kit and goes to work.
*heal check of 23* **disregard other 3, lagged a bit and hit the roll button too much**
::no hit points are recovered by doing a heal check, but your wounds are properly binded, checked for poison and disease, no infections, and should heal nicely with minimal scaring::
then, turning to both members hurt, Olyn touches their wounds and whispers a small prayer each time. both people regain 2 hp each
turning back to Vauhwyt after all is done saying: my energies from Wardd are used up. i'll need to rest and pray before I will be helpful spellwise.
then, going back to the boy in the stables, Olyn removes him from the anvil, and lays him carefully in the straw. finding a ratty horseblanket, Olyn covers the boy with it. then taking hay and sawdust, he covers the blood thickly, to clean it up.
*search check of the boy to reveal anything, dc20*
Cade d20+3=22 Tuesday September 30th, 2003 8:05:10 PM
Relieved by Olyn's prayers (now at 3 hp), Cade continues his vigil of the street (spot check of 22) and says "I agree, we may wish to bring this one somelace he can be more discreetly questioned."
Vorelle Tuesday September 30th, 2003 9:58:22 PM
As Olyn takes over the healing, Vorelle quietly puts her kit away.
DM Jan Wednesday October 1st, 2003 1:43:38 AM
It isn't long before the unconscious Ba'Bac is trussed up like a turkey. He seems to be breathing regularly thanks to Vorelle, and for the moment is blissfully unaware of Vauhwyt's plans for him.
Meanwhile, Olyn does what he can for Cade and Zayne, and then it's back on guard duty for Cade, as Zayne searches the half orc's clothing.
Devlin's second attempt at the roof is decidedly more nimble, and he moves to check on the dead archer on the rooftop (there's one down in the alley, too).
Theodore casts his spell over the unconscious Ba'Bac - and for a long moment, the half orc's longsword, a ring on his finger, and an amulet around his neck, glow with the tell tale energy of magic.
Up on the roof - Devlin finds the archer's longbow, a pair of bracers, and a narrow, elegant dagger. There's also a small pouch containing 30GP.
The fallen archer in the alley has similar bow and bracers, an identical pouch containing 30GP, but no dagger.
Zayne's search produces the aforementioned longsword, ring and amulet, a scratty looking leather pouch containing 300 GP - and - a rather odd-looking narrow scroll or letter case. The seal - intricately stamped in wax, has been eased loose.
About the time that Olyn is busy laying down Tam's body at the blacksmiths and cleaning up the blood - Ba'Bac wakes up!
His eyes move wildly back and forth, he gives a muffled growl, and a *CRUNCH* is heard coming from his mouth. The half orc's body starts bucking like a wild bull, and to those close, there's a faint smell of almonds. Then - as if all the wind is suddenly taken out of his sail, Ba'Bac lies still, collapsed - his eyes stare at nothing.
Vorelle d20+5=22 Wednesday October 1st, 2003 2:48:02 AM
Seeing that talking to Ba'Bac is going to be a waste of time, Vorelle begins looking for signs of where he may have come from. Or, failing that, where the other assailants came from.
[Track, Survival check 22]
Vauhwyt d20+5=7 Wednesday October 1st, 2003 7:07:23 AM
Vauhwyt rolls her eyes and mutters, "Well, gortacket knakrekrrt mrada dovakgt!" -- and if anyone speaks goblin, they might be shocked at the incredibly foul and disgusting suggestion that the liontaur makes to the corpse.
"At least we have this," she adds, motioning to the letter/scroll case. "A potentially very valuable clue."
"I think we must dispose of the bodies. It would be betterr, I think, if those curious about Ba'Bac, such as his employers, thought he just disappeared into thin air, rather that that he transformed into a corpse. The night is still young, so let us walk a few miles down the coast, weight the bodies down with stones, and sink them into the deep surf. That goes for the dead boy as well, alas."
"But first, let's peruse the letterr -- in case time is more precious than we know."
Vauhwyt opens the case and reads whatever is within. (Decipher Script check is only 7, so if it is not a language she knows, odds are it is indecipherable to her.)
Theodore Wednesday October 1st, 2003 1:10:09 PM
"His blade, ring, and amulet are magic," Theodore points out to Zayne. "If I had a little time and money, I could tell you if they're anything of use to us."
When Ba'Bac awakens and promptly kills himself, Theodore nearly soils himself trying to scramble away from the half-orc. Seeing that he no longer moves, the mage calms himself with a shaking hand to his chest and a deep sigh.
Olyn d20+7=24 Wednesday October 1st, 2003 4:53:23 PM
returning from the laying Tam to rest in the stables to find not only the half orc dead, but to a somewhat angry Liontaur and a skiddish mage. going to Ba'Bac's corpse, Olyn kneels over him, checking, and then turning to the group saying: yup, killed himself alright, with a most deadly poison. just be glad none of you was leaning over him when he chose to go, otherwise you'd be laying here with him.
hearing Vauhwyt's idea for body dumping Olyn frowns and pipes up: no. we don't have the time nor energies to do that V. we have 2 of our companions, even though healed a little, still needs more care. and I know one of us who would probably feel a little better away from these bodies. I say we leave them as they lay. if this half orc's employers knew of us, we'd be dead already. knowing this half orc, he probably over estimated his abilities and never bothered to tell anyone. thinking he could handle the matter on his own.
I say we take the bounty from tonight, including that scroll case to the house given to us by our thankful father. there we can decipher the letter, count our the loot, and make a decision as to our next move. and if need be, ask him for advice.
*if his idea is taken and acted upon* just as the group gets ready to go olyn says: we do not talk about anything that happened tonight on the way home. we do not give out any information to anyone, not even anyone in your family that we might happen across. AND we all stick together. I want us all within easy reach of each other in case something happens on the way back.
*if Vauhwyt's idea is acted upon* with a frown on his face, Olyn takes a position near Tam's body. pulling priestly vestments out, and rolling his silver dice in his hand, Olyn will lead the group out of the city and along the shore as would a priest leading funeral goers to the cemetary.
Zayne Wednesday October 1st, 2003 5:04:39 PM
As Ba'bac breathes his last breath Zayne spits in his face,"You got better than you deserved."
Then taikng the ring ,the amulet and the sword and giving them to Theodore,"Hold on to these for now."
Looking down at the body he grabs the corpse by the feet preparing to drag it away then, asks,"Where should we put it?"
Devlin d20-1=10 Wednesday October 1st, 2003 5:34:49 PM
Up on the roof, Devlin takes the archers longbow, his braces, the dagger and the bag of gold before looking up and down the street to make sure no one is looking and then unceremoniously dumping the body down to the street below. Half-climbing and half-stumbling down from his perch above (climb check=10), he makes his way over to the other archer and removes his possessions.
He makes it back to the others to hear the plans being discussed and shakes his head at the words of Olyn. "Pardon me if you will, I know I'm an outsider and all, but you mentioned earlier this one here," motioning to the corpse of BaBac, "was an assassin hired to kill someone of importance? Well, if that's the case then they must have a backup plan for the job or they wouldn't have rigged the poison for him. Seems to me that if he doesn't show up or whatever that the killing will still go off. Also, I would wager that it wasn't a hired job but something personal to him, otherwise I can't imagine him agreeing to die for the cause, if you will. Quite an interesting situation you've all got yourselves into."
The young man smiles as he absently rubs his chin and goatee and thinks about what all is going on. "I agree that the bodies should be dumped so that whoever recruited him doesn't immediately find out that he's been killed. But you've still got some work to do to figure out the head honcho."
Cade d20+3=16 d20+3=8 Wednesday October 1st, 2003 7:48:38 PM
"Being, well quite frankly, Above, I really don't feel we need to hide them that well, inot the shadows should be good enough. I have to agree with Olyn on this, we really need to get moving, together, and figure out what we can from what we have."
Either decision, Cade follows the group keeping an eye (spot 16) and ear (listen 8) out for trouble
DM Jan Thursday October 2nd, 2003 1:14:07 AM
While the others retrieve loot and discuss what to do about the bodies - all four of them - Vorelle takes a look around. It soon becomes pretty obvious to the ranger that tracking in these streets will be difficult if not impossible. Too much foot traffic, carriage tracks - a lot of scuffs on roof tiles, which suggest that half the population spends it's time skulking about on the roof in this town. This of course suggests that the group might expect unwelcome company, probably sooner rather than later.
There's a dull THUD, as Devlin shoves the other archer's body to join the other down below in the alley. He collects their stuff and rejoins the others.
Zayne hands the half orc's magic stuff to Theodore for safekeeping - it tingles slightly in the mage's hands. Taking the half orc's feet, Zayne realizes what a heavy brute this creature is.
As for what to do next, there's Vauhwyt's suggestion of dumping the bodies and covering their trail. Olyn is of the opinion the group should get the heck out of there and go back to base. Cade agrees with Olyn.
Factors in the decision -
The way to the water is either via the docks, or east or west through the rabbit warren of the Backstab Quarter, and although it's quiet on this particular street right now, the party would no doubt meet other citizens as they attempted to carry four bodies to their final destination.
Also, a sorry fact of the matter was that on occasion - bodies tended to turn up on the streets of Dirt City. It was the way of things. There was a good reason why folk hired bodyguards, or were well practiced in defending themselves. One had to get used to it - it was far from unexpected.
Of course Devlin's fears could also be realized, depending on what and who was behind the assassination.
So.... Risk being apprehended by the curious and/or other possible assassins as the bodies were disposed of? Or... Get the heck out of there before being discovered, return to Jeraldh's, get healed, rested, and hope the Wolves had their lady well protected in the meantime?
One thing was for sure - this was far from over - somehow the House of Wolves, an inhospitable, violent and suspicious lot at the best of times - had to be persuaded that a plot even existed in the first place.
As for the scroll case - Inside is a thick sliver of parchment. Unrolled it reads in ornately written common - Pay the bearer the sum of 2000 crowns, on proof of death of the lady Sarla of the House of Wolves
The signature is strange - a line of symbols, which anyone who dabbled in the magic arts would recognise as Old Woldian. The Seal on the case is also very peculiar. Anyone from the Keys House would be familiar with most Seal designs in Dirt City, and this certainly wasn't one of them. ((OOC - bear with me - I'll have the designs drawn up in the next day or two))
There are sounds of another carriage approaching, and it looks as though someone in a rather inebriated state is just leaving the Blue Eel.
What now?
Olyn Thursday October 2nd, 2003 9:15:11 AM
we wanted to get proof before we went to the House of Wolves? well, here it is.
do we go to the House of Seals and get them to identify the seal on the scroll case? do we inquire from a Sage about the signature on the scroll?
I say we leave right now, go straight to Jeraldh's home he gave us, rest, recuperate, settle a plan down. I have one but we must go now, before others who stalk in the night decide we are their next prey.
put the bodies in a pile at the end of the alley, move the barrels to hide them from casual view.
*Olyn waits at the end of the alley, scroll case hidden in the folds of his tunic, for the rest of the group to get a move on, like a father waiting for his slowpoke family to hurry up*
Devlin Thursday October 2nd, 2003 12:04:20 PM
Looking over the parchment they found and reading what it says, Devlin gives out a very low whistle as his eyes grow wide. As Olyn discusses proof of the hit, he looks up and says, "Or hard evidence against anyone found with this on them." He then takes a step back from the others. "You'd better guard that with your life because if anyone else finds it on you your life will be forfeit."
Devlin then goes over to work on hiding the bodies as best as he can, fully knowing that if they are found it will probably kick the backup plan of the assassins into full gear.
Theodore d20+7=19 Thursday October 2nd, 2003 12:31:15 PM
Theodore takes the three items from Zayne. He places the ring and amulet in his backpack. The longsword is another matter. Obviously at a loss as to where to place such an unwieldy, to the mage, weapon, Theodore holds it in a most unconventional manner.
Anyone looking at the young wizard, with his too-big clothes, grasping the hilt of sword in an underhanded way, would probably chuckle.
At the talk of the scroll, Theodore offers his services, "If you give me a night, I can tell you exactly what it says."
If he can borrow the scroll for a minute, Theodore performs a decipher script check = 19, to see if he can piece anything together from just glancing at it.
Zayne d20+4=18 d20+4=14 Thursday October 2nd, 2003 4:09:57 PM
Dragging the body to the nearest alley, and leaving the corpse there.
Then casting a quick glance around, and trying to hear how close the cart is,(spot 18 listen 14)"I think we need to make haste, I'll take the point." Then turns to go up the street.
Cade d20+4=22 d20+2=13 Thursday October 2nd, 2003 9:41:21 PM
Cade walks over to Theo and offers a hand to the mage, saying "I'll carry that if you like Theo, until we can figure out what to do with it." If Theo hands it over to him, Cade fastens the sword to his belt.
Cade then takes a look at the scroll and it's seal to see if he recognizes anything (Decipher Script 22, Knowledge Local 13)
"Well now that it seems that we are in agreement, let's get moving." With that Cade prepares to move with the gorup back to the Below, and it's greater safety.
Vauhwyt Thursday October 2nd, 2003 10:53:46 PM
The liontaur agrees that it would take too long and be too obvious to hide the bodies forever -- as in Davey Jones Locker. But she still thinks that hiding the bodies would be a good thing. Therefore she suggests a compromise. "Let's hide them well in the abandoned stable. Perhaps no one will find them for a few days."
"Then let us fall back to the place Jeraldh set aside for us. We can heal up and look at the scroll."
Drawing on her magic shop experience, Vauhwyt adds, "The money in the pouch should just about cover the cost of identifying the items."
Vorelle Thursday October 2nd, 2003 10:56:11 PM
Vorelle cleans off her handaxe and puts it away. "S-s-s-someone should w-w-w-warn the W-w-w-wolves," she says softly.
DM Jan Friday October 3rd, 2003 2:33:12 AM
Taking the scroll for safekeeping, Olyn urges everyone to return back to base. Zayne and Devlin do a reasonable job of hiding the bodies in the alley, which may satisfy Vauhwyt's inclination to leave as little a trail of evidence as possible. Getting the items identified is also a good idea.
Theo studies the strange signature. Yep - it definitely looks like Old Woldian. In fact his master has a book at his home that might help him identify it. Couple of hours, no more.
Cade's perusal of the Seal leads him to believe that the scroll came from outside the City. Seals were used extensively in Dirt City, and anyone who had any courier experience got to know what belonged to who pretty quickly. There was nothing on this one to even suggest which House it was.
Vorelle's comment about the Wolves highights a concern of Devlin's - after all, the man was right. That scroll was VERY controversial, and needed to be handled carefully.
By the time the next carriage has rolled past - the group is safely on their way back 'home' - Zayne on point and keeping a lookout. As it happens, the journey is uneventful, and everyone finds themselves back down below ground and into much safer territory, where weapons will have to be stowed and tied. Few folk walk the tunnels, most of them are now at home - eating supper, preparing for bed.
Ahead lies the apartment offered to the group by Jeraldh. Everyone has a mildly sooty face from being up top, dirt is beginning to work its way into unmentionable places - in fact a bath house, or some other method of cleaning up would probably feel really good about now. Cade and Zayne in particular are still wounded. The group has amassed what appears to be a reasonable cache of items:
Longsword - magic Ring - magic Amulet - magic 2 longbows - unknown 2 sets of bracers - unknown 1 dagger - unknown 3 pouches containing 360 GP in total.
And last but not least, they have a new friend - Devlin - do they invite him in?
It's late. Very late.
Olyn Friday October 3rd, 2003 10:09:47 AM
turning to Devlin: you have shed blood with us, others mainly but that's a good thing. you helped us strangers on the docks when noone else would and assisted us not knowing exactly why. with that in mind I feel that makes you one of us, and if you wish to become one of us then I welcome you, as I know everyone else will.
making a beeline, like I hope everyone else does, for the house, Olyn arrives and exhausted. placing the scroll on the table for everyone else to look over, Olyn goes and places his gear in a corner of a side room. pulling out his bedroll (cause we still dont have furniture yet) Olyn sets up a makeshift bed. then going to wherever people get water, a well or spring, with buckets in hand, Olyn retrieves some and brings it back. pouring some in a large pitcher he then produces a towel and smaller towel. using the smaller of the two, he thoroughly soaks it in water, then striiping off his clothes down to his undergarments, he gives himself a "sponge" bath and dries off. leaving the towels there for others to use. then, going back to his gear, he changes into clean clothing and returns to the room where the table is, and helps the others in going over what is at hand.
Theodore Friday October 3rd, 2003 12:46:47 PM
At Cade's request, Theodore eagerly hands him the longsword, having nothing better to do with the blade.
When the party gets back to Jeraldh's apartment, Thedore releases an audible sigh of relief. "It's good to be back."
"In the morning," he begins. "I can take that scroll to my master Geoffrey's house. I'm almost certain that he has a book that will help me identify that signature. I can also stop by the magic shop to get supplies needed to figure out what these things can do." He shows the group the ring and amulet. "Of course, I'd need a little bit of money to do that..."
Cade d20+3=5 Friday October 3rd, 2003 12:54:00 PM
With his wounds beginning to take there toll on his travelling, Cade makes his way with the rest of the party (hopefully) through the Below to the apartment offered by Jeraldh. He keps a weary eye out for those who may be following the group (spot 5).
Vorelle Friday October 3rd, 2003 4:54:57 PM
Unfortunately, Vorelle doesn't feel that her night's work is over. Once the group reaches the safety of Below, she repeats, "W-w-w-we s-should w-w-w-w-warn the W-w-w-w-wolves."
She is barely able to make eye contact, but there is a stubborn set to her jaw.
Devlin Friday October 3rd, 2003 5:24:33 PM
Devlin listens to Olyn as he makes an offer for him to join their group. He nods when Olyn mentions shedding blood and coming to their aid and he remains quiet for a moment after the offer is made. He thinks long and hard about it and the potential danger that he finds himself in. Thinking back on what is contained in the scroll they carry, he knows that it is pretty much a death sentence for them all if they are found with it.
"Ok, I'm in," he finally says with a broad grin on his face. "My career on the docks are over anyway. Just let me get my stuff and then I'll come with you."
Devlin will go to his former apartments to retrieve the rest of his stuff and come with them to the new digs. Once there, he will clean up with the others and listen to what they have to say going forward.
Vauhwyt d20+1=13 Friday October 3rd, 2003 6:23:22 PM
Before the group heads below ground, Vauhwyt retrieves her tackle and gear. She helps hide the bodies (Hide check 13 to aid other).
At the small residence they are using for a base, the liontaur turns to Devlin and says, "You've gone a far ways toward casting your lot with us. Let us have no secrets. Be welcome. And if you have any questions, ask them, and I'll answer as best I can."
[Devlin -- Vauhwyt answers any question honestly. Feel free to read back over the past turns and assume you know anything Vauhwyt does.]
Vauhwyt is just about ready to entertain thoughts of bathing, when she hears Vorelle's voice. The liontaur rogue immediately sits down and starts to think hard.
"You are right, Vorelle. We must act. But I freely admit that I fear the Wolves. I fear that they will relieve us of our winnings. I fear that they will demand we show them the body, and once above ground, kill us. Or worse, torture us to make sure we are telling all we know."
"But let's not be paralyzed by fear. We need to let them know. Let's be cautious and leave anything we value hear. But we will take the scroll after we make a copy."
Vauhwyt makes a copy of the scroll as best she can, including the Anciant Woldian symbols and the image of the seal.
Then she says, "Let's go!" And she heads out the door and into the den of the wolves.
Zayne d20+1=19 d20+1=16 Saturday October 4th, 2003 3:52:30 PM
Dropping his equipment at his feet he sits down and, takes advantage of the safety of the apartment he patches himself up as best he can.(Heal 19)(OOC that 2nd roll was an accident) Then begins to take off his armor and make himself comfortable, not overly concerned about the dirt,(it is just dirt you know)he listens as the others talk.
"Yes we should warn the wolves. How do you propose we tell them without them thinking that we are not part of the plot?" he puts in. "We don't have much time." After a few moments of thought,"We have the letter add that to what we witnessed this morning and that should be enough evidence, to convince the dwarves from the House of Knives to take action."
DM Jan Monday October 6th, 2003 1:55:48 AM
The journey back is uneventful, and Cade see's no one following the group.
Back at the Den next to Jeraldh's main residence, Devlin is accepted and offered shelter by Olyn and Vauywyt, which he accepts, and goes off to get his stuff.
Everyone tries to get cleaned up and patched up to a larger or smaller degree. Theodore lets everyone know he might be able to decipher and get some meaning out of that signature on the scroll if he can take a look at his masters books.
Vorelle repeats her assertion that the Wolves ought to be told as soon as possible. Zayne highlights an obvious danger, but yes - the scroll is good evidence.
A copy of the scroll is made.
So - is it off to the House of Wolves?
It's late at night. The group has the evidence they need. The group is still injured and low on spells. Do they keep their new found booty here, safe and locked up? or take it with them? This could be very risky, but then so could leaving the warning till the morrow. Who knows what else is afoot this eve?
The House of Wolves will be quite a walk, for it lies on the western side of the City. Quite a ways from the House of Keys which of course is on the east.
Vorelle d20+7=13 d20+7=9 d20+5=23 d20+5=11 Monday October 6th, 2003 3:11:49 AM
[Actually, Vorelle spoke her piece as soon as the group got Below. She had no intention of going back to Jeraldh's yet.]
Being an uninjured non-spellcaster, Vorelle has no specific reason to want to go back to the apartment. And she's tired of being too late.
They were too late to help Tam, too late to catch Ba'Bac in the act, and too late to realize that Ba'Bac would kill himself rather than be questioned. And if they rest up now, they could be too late to stop the assassination.
She tries to explain this, but she essentially ends up saying, "I-I-I'm g-g-g-g-going. J-j-j-join m-m-me w-when you c-c-c-can. I-i-i-if y-you c-c-c-can." And she moves off toward the House of Wolves.
She tries to stay hidden and move quietly. Because it is so late (and because she is a poor ambassador at best), she doesn't try to contact the Wolves directly. Instead, she lingers near their tower, keeping eye out for anything suspicious, hoping to somehow keep anybody from getting killed until her friends can get there.

turning to Vorelle as she turns to leave and says: since when have you decided to go from being cautious to suicidal? there are forces out there that we are unsure of and you want to go galavanting around, at night, by yourself. sounds like you have a deathwish to me. you want to help? you want to save this Lady from whatever these hooligans are planning for her? has anyone even considered the remote possibility that perhaps someone within her own house whats her removed for political reasons?
there are lots of things we have to think about before we go there, not to mention, and its my own opinion, that when we do we go enmasse, not by ourselves.
No, Vorelle, you are not to leave without us. doing so only brings disaster upon yourself and your new comrades. we have seen much death this night, I for one dont want to see one of my new friends dead as well. come in to the house. help us to reorganize and let us go over what we have found. let us make a plan as to how we are to act, and act we shall do.
and most importantly, Vorelle, let us act as a unit.
*if she decides to leave anyways, Olyn stands there shaking his head and mumbles: foolish girl as he turns to walk back in*
*if she takes his warning and enters the house*
going up to the others around the table he says: ok, let us make sure we have copies of the complete letter. I want a copy of that seal and I want a copy of the handwriting. Let us stash the stuff here in the house for later, and in a serperate spot hide the copies we have made for later. I also think that on the way to the house of Wolves, we stop by the temple and get those who need it healed. we have 360 gold in which to do this. it should be enough.
but as before, when we do leave, we have those who did it before flank us. need a person up front and rear guard. I want it to be our modus operendi. (when he gets people looking at him funny he sighs, then says: what we do normally) I will walk with Vauhwyt as usual and the reason I do this, I have noticed that there are always 2 people you notice out in public. an unusual creature like a Liontaur and a priest. why the later I can only speculate. but it seems everyone always knows when a cleric is about and exactly who it is.
Cade d20+7=20 d20+3=17 Monday October 6th, 2003 12:07:17 PM
Resting in the apartment, Cade listens to everyone's ideas and thoughts on the matter. He is in agreement that whatever they do, they must do it together. While he is still injured, he does see the need of haste in the matter.
With a small grunt of pain he says, "Well all I know for certain is that we need to be really careful with that scroll there. While it is our evidence, it can also be a death sentence. It's going to be very interesting, to say the least, to try and get in to speak with anyone, especially her, at this time of night."
When the group moves out Cade stays behind the group, hidden (Hide 20) and watching their surroundings (Spot 17)
Theodore Monday October 6th, 2003 3:32:00 PM
"I'm going to have to agree with Olyn on this issue," Theodore says meekly. "We're tired and hurt and at a disadvantage. Ba'Bac was to do his job this night and leave tomorrow, if you'll remember. That means they won't know anything's wrong until tomorrow at the earliest. We need to make a coherent plan, and to do that we need rest and cool emotions."
Theodore blinks, obviously surprised with himself. "Just a suggestion, do we really need to present the scroll to the Wolves in person, or could we leave a copy with a note of our own. There's really no sense in showing ourselves to anyone right now. All we can do is tell them that there is a threat to one of their own. What can we tell them in person that we can't by a note supported by that scroll. Also, if you'll give me the time, I can tell you what that script at the bottom means. That could be very important."
If the party agrees, Theodore will take the scroll to Geoffrey's now rather than in the morning, to reassure those who are chomping at the bit.
Zayne Monday October 6th, 2003 5:33:07 PM
Sitting there listening to whats going on he begins to think about what he has done, and he can't help feeling that the group is missing something...something important.
Devlin Monday October 6th, 2003 5:35:41 PM
Devlin listens quietly to the interactions and planning of the others, feeling a bit on the outside still. As Theordore makes his reference to Ba'Bac and foiling their plans, he shakes his head softly before commenting. "I have to disagree with that. As I said back in the alley, I think him having that poison available to take means they had a backup plan and I don't think whoever wants the lady killed will be surprised in the morning when she isn't. I won't speculate how they have it arranged but I would definitely guarantee there is a backup assassin just waiting to make the kill. We should notify them as soon as possible."
Devlin does like Theordore's plan of leaving a copy for the wolves. "I'm new to this city so I don't really know how all these Houses work and such, but I like the idea of leaving the note for this house to find so that they can protect her while we find those responsible. We can let them know anonymously that we'll be doing that searching for them and get back to them when we know more. Any ideas on how we can leave that with them?
Vauhwyt Monday October 6th, 2003 7:42:39 PM
No matter what, Vauhwyt won't let Vorelle go to the wolves alone.
But if she is persuaded to pause even for a few hours, the liontaur would love to get the unknown symbols translated.
After a little reflection, though, Vauhwyt comes down on the side of going to the wolves sooner rather than later.
"First off, let me offer this potion to whoever needs it most -- Cade? Zayne?"
[OOC: Jan, could you pick the person who Vauhwyt thinks is most wounded, and please roll 1d8+1 hp curing for them?]
""Second, the bottom line is this: If we wait and disaster falls, how will we be able to live with ourselves, knowing we might have prevented catastrophe but were too fearful?"
"Therefore we must go soon. And since we cannot know if a message will arrive, we must go in person. We have the evidence, and if need be we can lead the wolves to the body."
"Let us be brave, like true adventurers, and conquer our fearr."
Her words are bold, but the careful observer might note that Vauhwyt is tapping her claws on the ground nervously -- and her tail is swishing the floor between her hind legs.
rose Monday October 6th, 2003 9:43:46 PM
occ: hi my computer's back up, although i can't find my word disc and don't have access to the character sheets.
rose follows the others back to the rooms. she then washes up as best as she can (do they have a bath?) and listens into the discussion of what to do. "Maybe we should vote"
DM Jan Tuesday October 7th, 2003 2:23:41 AM
((OOC - I'm going to have to make a few assumptions here folks in order to keep things moving. It might be a bit clumsy, but please bear with me. I think Zayne was hit the hardest, and so should take up the potion offer but I could be wrong. Dave? Joe? Guys and gals I need to know whether you're taking the original or the copy of the scroll with you and whether you stop off at Wardd's Temple to patch up Cade or Zayne. Is Theo with the group, or going to Gregory's? I'm going to wing it on timing - Vorelle will be at the Tower. If Vauhwyt goes early to join her, she needs to make a Spot 13, if successful can join her in the next round of posts. Everyone else the round after that.))
Unscathed compared to some of the others, Vorelle sets off toward the Wolf Tower to keep an eye on things while the others go back to stash the stuff and makes some plans.
Olyn suggests various tactics - battle order etc and healing if there's time. The general consensus seems to be to get the message to the Wolves as quickly as possible.
Vorelle approaches the Tower of the Wolves. All the lights are out, save one, and there is a tall man standing there, leaning against the wall. He's in such a place that he can see all-comers, including Vorelle and so it seems pointless hiding. Taking something from his pocket, he yells out - "You there - got a light?" Her spot check has revealed a slight movement coming from the Tower steps, but she can't make out who, other than the fact the man is not alone.
If the rest of the group takes to the streets, they will note how deserted it is. Although here and there, shadows will move - perhaps other folks out on the street on business of their own? No one bothers the group, though.
Vauhwyt d20+1=13 d20+1=14 Tuesday October 7th, 2003 9:48:42 AM
Before the liontaur heads out after Vorelle, she quickly recommends leaving the loot and a copy of the scroll behind. She hands the potion to Zayne and tells him to drink it! (Roll that d8+1 for yourself, please!) Then she rushes off after Vorelle.
Vauhwyt just manages to catch a glimpse of Vorelle in the distance (Spot 13, just what she needed). She hurries to catch up to her friend.
[Jan, are Vauhwyt and Vorelle above ground or below?] (~~Jan~~ Below)
She stands next to her friend at the Wolves' place. She looks around (Spot 14)
Vorelle Tuesday October 7th, 2003 1:12:45 PM
In response to the man's query, Vorelle fishes into her belt pouch and extracts her flint and steel. Holding them so the man can see them, she approaches slowly. She holds her other hand palm up so the man can see it is empty.
Zayne d8+1=7 d20+4=19 d20+4=22 Tuesday October 7th, 2003 2:01:03 PM
Nodding his tahnks to the wemic,he downs the potion.(7) Feeling completely refreshed,"Go on ahead,I can catch up." Going back in the apartment he puts his armor back on and picks up his weapons.
After he has fully equipped himself he heads out at a quick jog. Doing his best to keep an eye out for danger(spot 19 listen 22)
Devlin Tuesday October 7th, 2003 4:02:53 PM
Devlin follows along with what the others wish to do, not particularly feeling one way or the other. When heading out he will not walk with the others as he hopefully hasn't been connected with any of them yet.
Theodore Tuesday October 7th, 2003 4:30:44 PM
Still having doubts about going to the Wolves this early, Theodore takes out a parchment sheet and scribble the Old Woldian signature onto it before rolling the sketch up and stuffing it into his scroll case.
"I would be of no use where you go," states the mage. "I will take this to my master's place and decipher it for when you return."
That said, Theodore scoots from the apartment towards Geoffrey's. At his master's abode, he will research the signature, inform his master of what has happened up to this point and ask his advice, and also ask him if he would happen to have the components for an identify spell, or if he might have the spell itself handy. If so, Theodore will present the ring and amulet collected from Ba'Bac for his master's perusal.
Cade d20+7=26 d20+3=14 Tuesday October 7th, 2003 9:28:25 PM
Cade continues to shadow the group (Hide 26), keeping an eye out for trouble (Spot 14). He is a bit unsure that this is the best course of action with so little actual discussion on the matter, but continues to stay with the group.
DM Jan Wednesday October 8th, 2003 1:14:20 AM
Close to the Wolf Tower, the man who'd asked for a light steps close to Vorelle. As she lights the strange twist of leaves in paper for him, she catches a better glimpse of his face - both feral and elegant at once, with a high forehead and pale eyes. He's tall, too - easily over six feet. After inhaling smoke, he says - "Thanks. So, what brings you here?" His voice sounds conversational.
Vauhwyt arrives in time to see Vorelle and the man being surrounded by six others, who seem to have been mere shadows before. The man certainly doesn't look threatened.
Meanwhile, Zayne heals up, and while he, Cade (still somewhat banged up), Devlin, Rose (?) and Olyn (?) head out toward the Wolf Tower, Theo sets off the Geoffrey's to get the signature identified, and hopefully, some of the magic items too. (OOC - Shegger, I'll email you tomorrow). They move cautiously through the streets, some hanging back, or moving ahead. They'll arrive at the Wolf Tower in the next round of posts.

Olyn Wednesday October 8th, 2003 9:17:34 AM
with armor donned and morningstar resting on his shoulder Olyn walks with the rest minus Vauhwyt and Vorelle to the House of Wolf.
to those he's walking with he starts reminding:
remember where we are going. we are going on their turf, we are gonna be under their protection and eyes the whole time. do not act provoking and do not be smug or rude with anyone there. they are tough, they know this and know they are the most feared in the city. be strong and demure at the same time. dont push but dont be pushed. and at all times, mind your Ps and Qs.
and one more thing. think before you answer. these people dont give out all their secrets, we dont need to be blurting out all of ours. if you are unsure as to how to answer something, wait for me or Vauhwyt to answer. diplomacy is our thing.
Vorelle Wednesday October 8th, 2003 12:06:30 PM
Vorelle is very much in "shy" mode. She stares at the ground, and when the man asks what brings her out, she only shrugs.

Devlin d20+2=12 d20+2=17 Wednesday October 8th, 2003 6:00:28 PM
Not really wanting to be seen with the others just yet, Devlin walks behind them all as he casually makes his way to the House of Wolves. Not a native to Dirt City, he wonders about the whole idea of the Houses and the intricacies involved with working with them and talking to them. Not for the first time, he wonders if they'll all instantly have their throats slit for coming forward with that scroll. Oh well, only one way to find out. He smiled slightly to himself as he pondered his current situation and his one from a few months ago. What's the old saying, out of the frying pan and into the fire? he thought to himself.
Pulling his thoughts back to the present, he looks around and keeps a sharp ear out for any potential trouble (spot and listen checks).
Vauhwyt Wednesday October 8th, 2003 9:09:01 PM
Walking up to where Vorelle is, Vauhwyt joins the two-leggers near the House of Wolves. She doesn't say anything yet, though, hoping to stall for time. She is careful, as she approaches, to make a little noise. She does not want to startle anyone.
Cade d20+7=17 d20+3=20 Wednesday October 8th, 2003 9:39:51 PM
Cade stays shadowing the back of the group as they arrive at the House (Hide 17), again trying to keep a careful eye on his surroundings (Spot 20). Noticing the rather tall gentleman standing near Vorelle, he silently hopes those approaching this man remember that the the half-orc was seen talking to a rather tall well-cloaked man, and that they choose their words carefully.
DM Jan Thursday October 9th, 2003 1:28:40 AM
Vorelle's shrug brings a smile from the man, who takes a final drag of his cheroot, and then stubs it out on the stone tiles. "As a distraction, you're one of the better looking ones I've encountered," he says. "But we were never fooled, my dear." His eyes glance toward the six other dark shapes in the gloom. "Now perhaps you'd better -"
"Taur creature!" Hisses one of the other men, and despite Vauhwyt's cautious, non-aggressive approach, all seven guards react.
The tall man steps back, and Vorelle is suddenly looking at the sharp steel borne by two of the others. Four of the others face the oncoming Liontaur and draw their weapons.
"Speak now!" barks out the tall man. "State your business, or feel the wrath of the Wolves."
Meanwhile, Rose, Olyn, Zayne, Devlin and Cade head toward the Wolf Tower - Olyn passing on as much sound advice as he can; everyone staying to the shadows, and traveling cautiously.
Arriving at the Tower, which is cloaked in gloom - Rose, Zayne and Devlin hear the *shik, shik, shik* sounds of weapons being drawn. Devlin realises he could learn a heck of a lot about the Wolves tonight - if he lives long enough. Cade can make out Vauhwyt, and what look like the rough shapes of tower guards? Rose's local knowledge tells her these HAVE to be tower guards, and not assassins.
The scene seems to be frozen - a VERY awkward moment. What now?
In another part of town, Theo has arrived at his master's house. Geoffrey plonks a large dusty book in front of his apprentice. "If the answer is to be found anywhere - it should be in there," says the wizard, before going back to his own studies.
Olyn d20+4=22 Thursday October 9th, 2003 9:22:18 AM
handing his morningstar to Rose, then walking up next to Vauhwyt, hands shown empty, Olyn begins saying:
we dont not come with conflict or menace on our minds, we seek an audience with the master ( or mistress if it be a she ) of the house. we have some important information that needs to be passed on to him ( her ) and if needs be, allow just me to give it. if anything, it must be given now, not later. lives are on the line here.
*diplomacy check of 22*
we are friends of the House of Wolves, we do not seek bloodshed this night, we seek to save lives, not end them.
Zayne Thursday October 9th, 2003 2:11:27 PM
Hearing the weapons being drawn, makes his blood turn cold. Slowing his pace,to a brisk walk, and when the others come into view, he keeps his hands in plain sight and his movements are made slowly and carefully,as not to add more fuel to the fire.
Thinking to himself,"This has to be the worst day ever,it can't possibly get any worse."
Listening to Olyn speak,he is glad someone is keeping their head in what could turn into a genuine living nightmare.

Vorelle Thursday October 9th, 2003 2:33:16 PM
Completely tongue-tied, Vorelle can only make a few incoherent noises. She flinches away from the drawn weapons.
Devlin Thursday October 9th, 2003 3:53:13 PM
An uncomfortable grin breaks out across Devlin's face as he hears the weapons being drawn and then the guards coming to circle the others. He watches as Olyn approaches to seek admittance and he wonders whether he'll be successful in getting in only to never leave again. He cross his arms over his chest as he looks on, hoping to give an apparent air of nonchalance and unconcern over their danger.
Theodore Thursday October 9th, 2003 7:55:11 PM
Theodore spends a while searching through the great dusty tome trying to decipher the symbols before him.
"Hmmm...this one appears to mean...Servant." A while later, "And this last symbol is Dominate. But this middle one is hard to find."
The young mage searches a while longer, drawing his finger through lines of ancient literature until it stops on a specific line. "Here it is!" he says excitedly. Theodore references the specific symbol with it's translated word and his face drains completely of color.
"Oh, my..." He places a shivering hand to his mouth. "Oh, this is not good. This is not good at all. This symbol is...Marteaus..." He says this last name in a barely audible whisper.
The apprentice wizard stands and paces the room with his hands folded behind his back, lost in thought. "What could this mean? Servant...Marteaus...Dominate. What does it mean?"
Eventually, Theodore calms himself and decides to speak with Geoffrey. "Master, I believe that I have deciphered the symbols." Theodore shows the wizard his findings. "I'm not sure what this means to our cause, but it can't be good." He asks for his mentor's take on the matter.
Afterwards, Theodore leads the conversation towards the magical items discovered on Ba'Bac and produces the ring and amulet in his possession for Geoffrey's perusal. "I don't have the components to discover their use. I wanted to ask if you had any spare materials for me to have, or even if you had the power to discern their properties yourself."
Cade d20+7=18 d20+3=22 d20+3=5 Thursday October 9th, 2003 9:50:46 PM
Hearing the sounds of weapons being drawn, Cade tries to remain cloaked in the shadows (Hide 18). Thinking he is well hidden, he continues to sneak closer slowly so that he can assist the group if needs be, but leaves himself far enough back so that he is not directly involved in this confrontation as more people showing up might threaten the guards in some way.
Positioning himself, he leaves his hand on the hilt of his rapier, but does not draw it, and continues to watch (Spot 22, Listen 5). It seems that his position has given him a favorable view of the surroundings, but left him in a place where it is difficult to hear anything well.
Vauhwyt d20+3=16 Thursday October 9th, 2003 11:29:29 PM
The liontaur stands still and calm, holding her hands open and palm up. She speaks clearly without raising her voice. "We came one at a time to show that we are not a threat. We seek to prevent harm from befalling this house. Please hear us out, and listen to this good cleric."
(Aid Another roll to boost Olyn's Diplomacy -- a 16 should add +2 to his roll.)

DM Jan Friday October 10th, 2003 2:06:36 AM
The tall man, obviously in charge, listens to what Olyn has to say, while his men keep their eyes on the group as they emerge from the underground street beyond. Only Cade and Rose remain hidden at this point.
Olyn's words appear to gain an added stature with the liontaur at his side. The other guards fan out a little, weapons still drawn - not something seen too often on the underground levels of Dirt City. Still, this WAS the Wolf Tower after all, and it WAS late. Their eyes meet those of the potential new threat, namely Zayne, and Devlin - eyes that carry a steely resolve.
Then, the tall one gives a small signal, a slight snap of his fingers, and the tension seems to lessen.
"If this is as serious as you say, then we should hear more," he says. "You will peace tie your weapons and enter the enclave of the Wolves. Your conduct will be watched. Declare yourselves - if some of your 'pack' roam the rooftops, they must show themselves in good faith. If you all speak the truth, then you have nothing to fear. What say you?"
He stands waiting, his eyes shifting to those of the group he can see.
Meanwhile, Theo successfully deciphers the signature - no mean feat for an apprentice. His Master Geoffrey scratches his head. "Just what are you getting yourself into, lad?" he shakes his head and sighs. "From what I know of High Woldian, that isn't the most eloquent mark I've come across. Seems a little clumsy, a little crude, but if the writer is a representative of Marteaus... a troubled God, that one..."
As for the weapons - "I can probably figure out what these things are capable of, Maybe you can leave them with me. Come back tomorrow. If I were you I'd warn your friends as soon as possible."
Olyn Friday October 10th, 2003 7:11:41 AM
hopefully loud enough for all to hear Olyn says: everyone show yourself, if we wish to show ourselves as honest folk we need all of you out so these people can see you. remember what I said.
not really sure as to how to peacebond his morningstar, Olyn shrugs and places it, spiked head first in his backpack, then ties the flap closed around the hilt.
then looking at the man obviously in charge he remarks: and to speak untruthfully is not in my nature.
Vorelle Friday October 10th, 2003 12:35:04 PM
Moving slowly, Vorelle opens her cloak enough to show the Wolves her handaxe, already peacebonded since they are Below. Her bow, on her back, is still strung, but readying and using it would be so awkward in her present situation that she's not worried they'll take it as a threat.
Theodore Friday October 10th, 2003 1:44:41 PM
Theodore hands the ring and amulet to Geoffrey, obviously wanting the more experienced mage to try his luck at discovering their powers.
As he rolls his document up and stuffs it back into his scroll case, he thanks his master for all of his help and hustles from the wizard's abode.
Just as soon as he steps from his master's stoop, he catches his right foot in the cuff of his over-long pants and falls square on his face. He quickly hops back up, checks his nose to make sure it's not broken, wipes some excess water from his cheek, and takes off at a run. This time with his right hand hitching up his pants.
His destination, the Tower of the Wolves so that he might find his friends and warn them of this newest danger.
Zayne d20+4=10 Friday October 10th, 2003 3:24:39 PM
Glad to see that the immediate danger is passed, he shows that his weapons are already tied. Then looking around to make sure that none of the others are on the rooftops,(spot 10) he takes a position near Devlin.
Devlin Friday October 10th, 2003 5:29:37 PM
A slight frown breaks out across Devlin's face as the tension eases among them all. Turning his cloak to the side to show his rapier already bonded, he adds, "A strange custom this is..."
"Where shall we be off to now," he says as he looks at the tall man that appears to lead.
OOC: Hilarious post award from Theodore, thank you much for that!
Cade Friday October 10th, 2003 10:39:23 PM
Hearing the request for all to make themselves known and visible, Cade steps out of the shadows and begins visibly resecuring the bindings on his weapons that he is so used to in the Below.
When he is done peace binding his weapons, he makes them visible to the guards and then walks over to join up with the rest of the group.
rose Saturday October 11th, 2003 12:58:39 AM
rose quickly binds her weapons (although if possible she will make sure that the bindings on a few of the will easily come undone) then steps out and stands beside vorelle and vaunwyt. "hello"
Vauhwyt Sunday October 12th, 2003 8:56:40 AM
Since Vauhwyt has no weapons (aside from claws and fists), she justs shows her empty hands. She looks around and does not see Theo. Suspecting his fears kept him back at the apartment, far from the Wolves, she says, "We come in peace, but one of our pack has stayed at home. He knows all that we know, including the location of the evidence, and he is now the guest of an official of another House. Otherwise all of our pack is herre."
DM Jan Monday October 13th, 2003 12:26:27 AM
Olyn asks the remainder of the group to show themselves, while making a point of securing his morningstar from immediate reach. Vorelle, Zayne, Devlin and Vauhwyt also make a show of their peace-tied weapons, or in Vauhwyt's case - paws with no extended claws!
Cade and Rose step out of the shadows, weapons stowed, and join their companions stood before the guards of the Wolf Tower.
The six guards take a look toward their leader, and after a confirming nod, put their own blades away.
The tall man nods to himself and then addresses the group. "Good. Now convention is restored. Walk with me. my name is Avenor. I will take you to someone of authority, and you will be heard."
Avenor sets off, deeper into Wolf territory. The occasional torch highlights shadowy murals that appear to depict trees and forests. Well drawn images of real wolves occasionally peer out, so real it appears as though their eyes move. Above, the ceiling arcs above alleys filled with doors of all shapes and sizes. Two-storey dwellings meet the ceiling, one storey buildings have flat roofs, some of which are adorned with large vases of tumbling floral vines - how the flowers grew underground, was a mystery to a non-local.
The group get the feeling they are being watched, every step of the way, even though the streets seem devoid of people.
Eventually, a large set of double doors is reached. Avenor stops before them and raps hard. "I hope you have a good story to tell," he says plainly, without jest or sarcasm.
The heavy doors swing wide open, and he beckons the group inside.
Meanwhile, Theo runs across town. He'll arrive at the Tower in the next-but-one round of posting. Had the guards remembered Vauhwyt telling them there was another? Maybe they had, maybe they hadn't..
**Local knowledge**
Plants displayed underground were taken up above ground on rotation, so they spent one day above, in the light, and one day below. A group of halflings had come up with a rather ingenious mechanical invention that made a flat-bed trolley filled with plant pots able to climb the Tower stairs.
None of the locals in the group have ever been this far into Wolf territory. Ever. Why? Because it was dangerous. The Wolves were known for being inhospitable and suspicious, unless - so it was rumoured - you were a serious gambler with a lot of money to spend, or had business of the more unsavoury kind - and in a City of rogues, that had to be unsavoury indeed.
Vorelle d20+5=8 Monday October 13th, 2003 12:41:33 PM
Vorelle has slipped back into her "among strangers" posture. Her shoulders are hunched, her arms and hands drawn in, her head is down. She walks meekly at Avenor's side.
She tries to look around for signs of trouble, but she is hampered by her own hood and the bodies around her (Spot 8).
Zayne Monday October 13th, 2003 1:57:28 PM
Feeling nervous about being this deep into Wolf territory,Zayne falls back to the rear of the procession, looking at his surroundings.
Theodore Monday October 13th, 2003 4:09:14 PM
Theodore continues on towards the Wolf Tower, his run steadily declining in pace to a fast walk as his energy deteriorates.
"This is hard," he complains. "I'm tired and my muscles are sore."
After a short distance, the young mage feels well enough to start into a light jog. "I hope you don't get your throat slit from all of this, Theodore."
rose Monday October 13th, 2003 4:48:01 PM
rose is a bit frightened of what may happen, but she doesn't like the way vorelle is acting why's vorelle walking like that? it looks like she thinks someone's going to hit her rose walks up to vorelle and holds her hand as they walk.
rose, continued Monday October 13th, 2003 5:17:48 PM
as rose takes vorelle's hand she whispers [b]don't worry i wont let anyone hurt you.
Devlin Monday October 13th, 2003 5:55:08 PM
Devlin is intrigued by the whole scenario and how it appears to be playing out. He smiles as they walk along, each of them feeling the precariousness of their situation. He shivers as a chill runs up the back of his spine. It's been a while since I've felt this good, he thinks to himself as he follows along.
Vauhwyt d20+7=21 Monday October 13th, 2003 7:04:57 PM
Sensing that the group is ill at ease, Vauhwyt seeks to keep the eyes of the guards mostly on her. She figures that won't be hard since she is big and different looking. But she also does not want to reveal her own fear.
So without making any hostile action, she stands very tall, but at the same time she strides forward sinuously, getting every inch out of her feline heritage. It's not exactly a strut, but her demeanor is almost the exact opposite of Vorelle's. She tries to seem at ease, confident, and powerful.
Her forehips move one way, her hindhips move the other, and her tail provides a counterpoint as it sways back and forth. Her chin is up and her shoulders are back. She sways her empty hands to and fro.
[OOC: Bluff check 21]
At the door, Vauhwyt smiles and answers Avenor. "Yes, our mission is both urgent and vital. Thank you for hoping us well."
As the liontaur leads the way into the next room, she whispers to Olyn, "Would you be our speaker and tell our story? I think you're more diplomatic than I am."
DM Jan Tuesday October 14th, 2003 1:17:13 AM
The group enters the room, and the walls appear to close in. A further slam of the door behind them merely adds to the claustrophobia.
Avenor remains, stood to one side. Ahead is a table - wide enough to stretch almost across the room. Behind it, sit four men of varying ages, their faces mask-like, betraying nothing.
One of them leans forward. His thumb and index finger delicately balance a strip of rolled up leaves, and smoke curls up from it lazily.
"Explain yourselves," says the man, his voice gruff. "Tell us why you have called us away from pack business."
Meanwhile......
Theo approaches the Wolf Tower. The guards are waiting.
Theodore Tuesday October 14th, 2003 12:57:49 PM
Theodore finally reaches the Tower, huffing and puffing as he pulls to a stop in front of the guards. "I...I need...to speak to..." he takes a deep breath to steady himself. "I need to speak to my friends. They should have come by here a little while ago."
Slowly, but surely, it dawns on the frantic wizard that he's not in a position of distinct advantage. He draws himself up to seem more confident, though his man-sized clothes adorning his young frame severely hamper the effort. "I seek admittance to join with my group that should have been here only a short while ago. Please direct me to them."
He might have come off a little haughty, but he is in practice to become a great wizard.
Zayne d20+4=11 Tuesday October 14th, 2003 1:40:05 PM
Stepping to the front of the group near Vauhwyt and Olyn,Zayne stands there doing his best to look confident but not threatening. He lloks at the room carefully(spot 11)looking for anything unusual.
Olyn Tuesday October 14th, 2003 2:54:48 PM
nodding to Vauhwyt Olyn hands her the scroll.
then steps back to add support when needed.
(ooc im sorry im not taking a direct participation in this scene, I just moved and it will be another week before my phone line is up, and im having to use the library and there is someone standing over my shoulder telling me its time to get off even though i have only been here 10 minutes. I will try and get on when its not so crowded tomorrow. here you can only use it once a day and i dont feel like driving 40 miles to use another computer)
Devlin d20+2=3 Tuesday October 14th, 2003 4:46:00 PM
Standing to the rear of his companions, Devlin looks around with an air of amusement at the entire episode. He keeps quiet to let the others explain their situation since he really knows little to nothing anyway. His eyes however, look around the room and attempt to take in everything they come across (spot check=3).
Vauhwyt Wednesday October 15th, 2003 12:15:41 AM
The liontaur takes the scroll from Olyn and smiles. She draws herself up and addresses the Wolf leaders.
"I apologise for disturbing you, sirs, but our news is urgent for your House and for all of Dirt City."
"Some children overheard plotters who wished your House ill. The plotters sought to kill the lady Sarla. The plotters caught the children and tied them at water level -- so that they would drown with the tide."
"We rescued the children and found out about the plot. We found one of the plotters, a half-orc, above ground, and we killed him. He had this scroll on his person, which proves his culpability. We found that the assassin's name was Ba'Bac, and we left his body hidden above ground."
Vauhwyt offers the scroll.
"As further evidence, I would also be willing to swear an oath to the truth of this, or to submit to magical inspection, if you want to confirm my words."
"After we found the scroll, we came here to warn you of the plot."
Vauhwyt steps back and shuts up.
DM Jan Wednesday October 15th, 2003 12:30:48 AM
Olyn passes the scroll to Vauhwyt, as Vorelle, Devlin, Rose, Zayne and Cade look on, or quietly check out their surroundings. It's pretty shadowy at the back which successfuly hides Devlin's air of amusement from the interviewers, but also means he can't see a whole lot. Zayne's checking out of the surroundings yields a little more fruit. The side walls of the room are lined with dark curtains, and he spots an ever so slight movement of fabric to the left of him.
"Well?" asks the man at the table. One of his companions begins to rap his fingers on the table - rrrrap... rrrap... rrrrap...
Then - Vauhwyt gives them the details.
For a moment, there is silence. The first man leans back, drawing heavily on what he was smoking, then exhales a long stream of carcinogens. The 'rapper' stands abruptly, and walks around to the groups side of the table. "What rubbish!" he announces, and snatches the scroll. He reads it with a snort, and then something on the parchment catches his attention. "Well, well, well..." With a raised eyebrow, he hands the scroll to the smoker.
Those to the rear of the party will notice that Avenor's hand is resting on the hilt of a long dagger.
Another of the men at the table speaks. His voice is smooth, without emotion. "Those children, who do they belong to - can they corroborate your story? You DO realise the seriousness of this, I presume?"
Back at the Tower, four guards surround Theodore. Their faces suggest they're in no mood for a laugh and a joke. "Seek admittance, eh?" mimic's one of them. "Start talking. If you don't describe them correctly, you'll get to know why no one messes with the Wolves."
Zayne d20+4=6 Wednesday October 15th, 2003 1:24:07 PM
Turning to Cade he motions to the moving curtain and mouthing "Watch that curtain."
Then he takes a breath,"Yes we do understand the severtiy of whats involved. If this plot is successful we will be right back where we were, violence will prevail and we will be under mob rule. To your second question, yes the children can verify our story, but as to their house,is information that WE ARE NOT A LIBERTY TO DISCUSS."emaphasing those words more for the benefit of the party.
"I wouldn't want any unfriendly ears to get wind that anyone is onto their scheme. I too will subject myself to an oath or more if need be." Stepping back slightly he looks around the room again(spot 6)but sees nothing nothing has changed.
Theodore Wednesday October 15th, 2003 1:46:37 PM
Theodore's assumed arrogance vanishes instantly when he is suddenly surrounded by four menacing guards.
"What they look l-like?" repeats Theodore. "Um- well there's Vauhwyt. S-she's kind of a lion, but a person at the same time. And Rose is a girl halfling with long hair. Cade's a cool-as-you-please kind of guy. He's my best friend, too!" he chirps this last part. But his face quickly reddens when he realizes he's still in danger.
"And..and there's Vorelle. She's fairly quiet, but I think she's pretty. Olyn and Zayne are both nice people, but I wouldn't want to get on their bad side. And Devlin's the new guy, so I haven't really had the chance to get to know him yet. But he's pretty good with a sword."
Olyn Wednesday October 15th, 2003 2:58:43 PM
stepping up.
as my friend says, these children can back up our story but for their safety I think it is best we leave them out of this for now. Ba´Bac did murder a child that he employed to follow us. we noticed and confronted this child, paying him to leave this alone but in the end got himself killed at the hands of the half orc. this half orc we cornered and fought, was downed by us but he took his own life in the end by ingesting poison, cyanide to be exact, hidden in a molar.
we mean you no difficulty in this matter. we have put our lives on the line tracking things down. we have put our lives on the line coming here to warn you and show you that scroll and tell you our tale.
we know not who this lady is, or what her affiliation is within this house. nor do we wish to know. we only wished to show you what we found, to warn you, and to hopefully stop this plot to terminate the supposed peace within this city.
steps back.
Devlin Wednesday October 15th, 2003 3:58:23 PM
Once again, Devlin remains quiet as the others adequately cover their situation and their role in all the events. Having nothing to add, he simply remains where he is and tries better to remain focused on all around him.
Vorelle Wednesday October 15th, 2003 5:12:47 PM
Vorelle nods emphatically, when Olyn has finished speaking, as if to signify that he spoke for her as well. She still hasn't met anyone's eye.
rose Wednesday October 15th, 2003 6:46:08 PM
Rose listens to the conversation but when the group is asked for the children's names she gets upset "We're not telling you their name, because we don't want them to be hurt. Somebody already tried to kill them once."
Vauhwyt Wednesday October 15th, 2003 9:18:53 PM
Vauhwyt smiles as Zayne, Olyn, and Rose deny the Wolves what they want -- like the smile of a Chancer who has just been dared to tweak the nose of a dragon.
With her soprano voice bright, she picks up right where Rose ends, before the Wolves have a chance to respond.
"My friends, good sirs, are unusually brave and quick to defend others. This identical tendency led them here to warn you, where most people would turn away in fear or indifference. So, please, do not be angry at their wish to protect children, since it is the same desire that inspired them to come here and foil the assassination of an innocent."
"Here is more proof: The body of the half-orc assassin, this Ba'Bac, is hidden in an alley near the Blue Eel Inn." She gives full directions to the place they hid the corpse. "The body is still warm."
DM Jan Thursday October 16th, 2003 12:26:48 AM
Mr Smoker, Mr Rapper and Mr Smooth listen to what the party has to say, while Mr Silent appears to be studying the scroll closely.
Avenor gives Cade a look that appears to say 'Don't even try it,' as Zayne tells the rogue about the curtain.
Then, Mr Rapper gives a shrug and returns to his seat at the table. There follows another awkward silence. Then -
"Your attempts to protect the innocent are commendable to be sure," says Mr Smoker. "The Wolves have a certain... reputation, but we are not without sympathy or respect for the lives of children. We have families of our own, after all. "However," he stubs out his cheroot in a small pot on the table. "We think it is only fair, especially because of the subject of the assassination attempt, that we satisfy ourselves that you speak the truth. "Therefore - we would like one of you to accompany Avenor to the body in the place the Taur lady has just described. They will not be harmed."
At this point, Mr Rapper snaps his fingers, and points at Cade. Avenor moves quickly, has Cade by the arm and out of the door at lightning speed.
Outside - Theodore appears to have satisfied the guards questions and is being escorted to the Meeting Hall. On arrival - he see's Cade leave the Hall with a tall, broad-shouldered man in the direction of the Tower. Cade gives Theo a thumbs up, but looks nervous. They disappear into the gloom.
Theodore is then unceremoniously pushed inside the Hall, and finds himself amongst his friends once more.
Mr Smoker is at this point whispering a question at Mr Silent - who nods and hands him the scroll.
"Can you tell us any more about this?" asks Mr Smoker, addressing the group as a whole. He hesitates, gets a nod from Mr Smooth and then goes on to say -
"This signature has been seen before - once carved on two bodies - what was left of a clean ops team, slaughtered to the north of the City about 6 months ago. "The second time - we 'believe' if rumours are true, it was carved on the broken mast of a Teeth ship scuttled off the Wharf a few weeks ago. "No one seems to know what it means. The Seal is also of non - city origin."
((OOC - I'm sending everyone else a .jpg for the signature. You've all seen the scroll, after all.))
Vauhwyt d20+7=23 Thursday October 16th, 2003 7:41:16 AM
Vauhwyt answers, "One of us, who just joined us, in fact," -- and she motions to Theodore -- "is a scholar. He recognized the sigils as an ancient script."
Vauhwyt says a few words about Theodore's acumen and insight. She is trying to pass a secret message to Theodore. (Bluff check to do so -- 23 -- should work.) Vauhwyt's message: "Be calm and brave, just tell them what you know."
Then she invites Theodore to speak up. "Come, tell us what you can about this signaturre." There is a faint but clear touch of an accent in her words, perhaps pointing to the liontaur's underlying nervousness.
Theodore Thursday October 16th, 2003 12:48:55 PM
Theodore clears his throat as Vauhwyt shuffles him to the front. "The signature is in Old Woldian," he begins. "The three symbols stand for Servant, Marteaus, and Dominate, respectively."
The young wizard is obviously quite nervous to be the center of attention as he fiddles with the hem of his tunic.
Olyn Thursday October 16th, 2003 12:51:29 PM
stands back, letting Theo take the floor.
Devlin Thursday October 16th, 2003 3:26:45 PM
Keeping to the back and watching the proceedings unfold before him, Devlin gains a manner of respect for these Wolves and the way they've run things so far. A bit too over the top for him and his experiences but thorough nonetheless. He wonders how they'd stack up against some of the more shrewd merchants of Plateau City. His thoughts are interrupted momentarily when there is mention of the skuttled ship from a few weeks ago. This tickles a part of his memory as he struggles to remember why. Either way, he decides to hold off on saying anything until he can talk to the others.
Zayne Thursday October 16th, 2003 5:51:05 PM
After Theo speaks his peace,"Well I've heard about the killings but I only know that they happened and, that it doesn't match any of the known house's normal methods. Then after a moment"My companioins and I are cooperating with you and answeing your questions, isn't it only fair that we can have a few of our questions answered?."
Vorelle Friday October 17th, 2003 12:53:47 AM
Vorelle stands unmoving, head down, doing her best to be invisible.
DM Jan Friday October 17th, 2003 1:58:21 AM
Servant - Marteaus - Domination....
"Old Woldian? never heard of it," snorts Mr Rapper. "I have," says Mr Smooth. "It's eons old, a wizard language." "I don't like the Marteaus part. What have we done to him?" offers Mr Smoker.
All four look to Zayne, and then the entire group. "Well, what questions do you have?"
Theodore Friday October 17th, 2003 12:33:00 PM
Theodore steps back to his friends after providing his translation.
When offered the chance for questions, Theodore whispers to Zayne. "Ask them if they've experienced any strange illnesses within the Wolves, or had any interactions with persons who might have been currently suffering from a disease or had been scarred by disease."
Obviously, Theodore is too nervous to ask his own questions.
Devlin Friday October 17th, 2003 3:52:18 PM
Not wanting to break rank or step out to the fore now, Devlin sits back to let the others bring forth their questions to the four. He waits to see what might be asked and what type of response the group will get before making his own inquiries.
Vorelle Friday October 17th, 2003 4:22:23 PM
It would be unbecoming a Stalwart Adventurer to ask, "Please, please, please, can I go home now, please?", but Vorelle can't think of another one. She stays where she is.
rose d20+7=16 d20+6=19 d20+5=12 Friday October 17th, 2003 11:17:18 PM

Zayne Saturday October 18th, 2003 1:11:13 PM
Lightly tugging on his nose, and looking at each of the questioners,"First is who has the most to gain from this act?"
Obviously he has more questions to ask but is unsure whether to ask them.
Looking to Vauhwyt,"I'm sure that my companions has questions of their own."
Vauhwyt d20+1=18 Sunday October 19th, 2003 5:39:28 PM
The liontaur's ears pick up Theo's whispered comment to Zayne (listen check 18), and she decides to ask them herself.
"Second, has anyone of the House experienced any strange illnesses, or had any interactions with persons who might have been currently suffering from a disease or had been scarred by disease. That would be a possible corraboration of all this."
"But third, and maybe it should have been first, what about us? I am no friend to the god of disease, and I am especially no friend to those who harm children and innocents. I think my comrades feel the same."
""We are simple passers-by who stumbled into a foul-smelling plot. Maybe to prove that we want nothing, and are not trying a con, we should best take our leave, now that we have delivered our warning. On the other hand, as our questions show, we have an interest now, and if our hands can help resolve this situation, I think we would offer them as best we can. In short, can we help?"
DM Jan Monday October 20th, 2003 1:00:29 AM
There is a sharp strike, the flash of a spark in the gloom, and another cheroot is lit. It's tip glows red as Mr Smoker draws on the packed and curled leaf, and after a moment - one, two, three smoke rings drift toward the party, breaking and drifting as they are pulled apart by currents of air.
"Disease..." the man answers. "No manifestations of that as far as we know. Not amongst the pack." A nod from Mr Silent confirms his statement. "As to who has the most to gain - it could be anyone. I presume you know of the marriage to take place between our lady in question - the daughter of our Alpha, and a high-ranking member of the Teeth. This happens the day after tomorrow. Perhaps some of you know of the legend, and what happened the last time a marriage between our two Houses took place. Tragedy and bitter lessons for us all. "Instability and war can bring a lot of money into the coffers for some." He shrugs and takes another puff. "Then again, internal rivalries could be at the back of it. A bond between Wolf and Teeth - heh, maybe the Cloaks, the Keys, or the damnable Knives think it will upset the balance of power between us. A foolish notion of course - when we Wolves are already the foremost power in this City." Mr Smoker's last statement is delivered matter-of-fact and without irony.
Mr Smooth leans forward. "This looks like an outside job," he purrs. "There are rumours - north of the City, bands of the most unholy creatures you have ever seen wander that wasteland. Marteaus ruled the great mountain once, but disappeared after the final battle in the year of Ascension. His spawn scattered, and were a real threat until the Gold Dragons all but wiped them out not too long ago in a spectacular fight. "But a great magic was let loose that day, and some say those it did not kill - it changed." The man leans back, and becomes partially concealed by his colleague's smoke.
"You must give your word - say nothing of this!" interjects Mr Rapper, edgy and abrupt. "As for help?" He turns and looks at the other three in turn. "What could they possibly do?"
Mr Smoker coughs. "They could do quite a bit if they had a mind to. Keep their ears to the ground for one thing. This City does it's business in all kinds of places - the taverns, the quayside, even the streets. Not everything goes on behind closed doors."
At that point, Mr Silent leans across and hands a note to Mr Smoker. The silent one's eyes appraise the group, and for a moment seem almost yellow in the smoke-filled light. Mr Smoker takes a look at the note, screws it up, tosses it on the floor where it bounces and rolls, and he nods firmly. He stands. "I - we - wish to thank you. What you have done this night has quite possibly prevented a dreadful catastrophe. It is late, and you should go to your beds. But know this - "You hold the Wolves in debt."
All four of the men stand - the stocky Mr Smoker, the rapier thin Mr Rapper, the effete Mr Smooth, and the tall, commanding shadow of Mr Silent.
Body language would indicate that this meeting is possibly at an end.
**Local Knowledge** The phrase - 'You hold the Wolves in Debt' - may come as a bit of a shock to those who are City borne and bred, for it is not said lightly by a House such as the Wolves. It is a promise, an allegiance - immensely valuable, and it is permanent. It offers protection, favourable trading, a blind eye - and for better or for worse - it works both ways. Is is also known, that if Avenor and Cade are unable to corroborate the story, and Avenor deems it to be a lie - then the group are likely to be 'taken out' with extreme prejudice.
Vauhwyt d20+7=9 Monday October 20th, 2003 10:25:08 AM
Though not born in Dirt City, Vauhwyt has lived long enough here to know a good thing when she hears one. Inside, she is very happy indeed -- "They are not going to kill us!" On the outside, much of that relief shows through (Bluff Check 9 to be a cool cucumber is pretty much a failure).
Grinning despite herself, the liontaur bows very deeply. "Thank you, sirs, thank you."
And she turns to go, leading the way for her friends.
After the group leaves the Wolves, Vauhwyt assumes the Wolves are following the group secretly, and so she whispers to each person in turn. "We do not want to reveal the identity of the other House who has offered us shelterr. But we may be trailed back. So let us try to lose any pursuers."
Theodore Monday October 20th, 2003 1:13:45 PM
Theodore shivers with pleasure when the four heads stand and file out. The threat has passed, and now he just might be able to get some sleep.
He follows Vauhwyt out and sticks close to the group as they journey home.
Zayne Monday October 20th, 2003 3:32:58 PM
Caught slightly off guard by the abrupt dismissal and even more so by the Wolves promise of friendship,he nods his goodbye and proceeds to leave.
Devlin Monday October 20th, 2003 4:34:24 PM
For the first time since they appeared in front of the House of Wolves, the ever present smile on Devlin's face has left him. Moving through the corridors of their compound, he thinks over the words of Mr. Smoker about their indebtedness. He didn't know enough about the workings of the Houses in Dirt City yet, but he figured it meant much the same as the merchants in Plateau City; that they owed him a debt but that he did as well! He certainly didn't like the idea of owing anyone, anything.
He follows the others wherever they wish to go, but he suggests they go to a tavern or two first to talk and attempt to drop any tales they pick up.
Olyn Monday October 20th, 2003 5:08:32 PM
upon hearing the words " you hold the Wolves in Debt " Olyn takes a double take. knowing exactly the ramifications of those words.
he is completely and utterly silent upon leaving the house, and the turf of the Wolves.
when Vauhwyt suggests the group backtracks repeatedly, in an attempt to throw off anyone trailing them he breaks his silence saying: Cade has already led them to the young children, as for me, if they choose to they will follow me to the temple for I must go meditate on everything that has happened and give penance.
looking at everyone he says: I bid you all of you a good night, rest well, think about everything that has happened and I will meet all of you for breakfast.
with that said Olyn heads off to the temple of Wardd.
rose Monday October 20th, 2003 11:57:03 PM
rose is shocked when she hears the man say that we hold the wolves in debt. but she agrees not to lead them back to the children. "I'll go to the temple with you" she says to olyn.
DM Jan Tuesday October 21st, 2003 2:20:15 AM
Back out in the main sewer passages, where the lights are dimmed, and hardly anyone walks the streets; where the stores and taverns are closed - 'home' probably looks good right now. It's VERY late - midnight has come and gone.
At some point, as the group make their way through the streets and as Olyn and Rose decide to go to the Temple of Wardd - a lone figure approaches. He is young, he wears a fairly short cloak. "Don't kill me, I bear a message from a friend," he says and thrusts a scroll into Vauhwyt's hand, then he turns on his heel and makes to leave.
The scroll is your typical roll of parchment, often carried by House of Cloaks couriers. There is no seal. It reads -
Get to the temple of Wardd - very urgent. Cade
Olyn Tuesday October 21st, 2003 8:15:01 AM
where as Olyn was going to stroll to the temple, now he breaks out in a run.
Vauhwyt Tuesday October 21st, 2003 10:38:11 AM
"Well, that decides that!" And Vauhwyt shepherds the group in the direction Olyn took.
Theodore Tuesday October 21st, 2003 1:29:12 PM
"Aww! But I'm tired!" argues Theodore. The young mage looks about to throw a temper tantrum. Instead, he sheepishly follows in the direction Vauhwyt herds him.
Zayne d20+4=8 Tuesday October 21st, 2003 3:20:04 PM
As Olyn and Rose head off to the temple,he decides to take a side trip to the Cloaks.
This all changes after the mysterious message. Looking to Theo, with a chuckle,"I thought everyone knew,a hero's work is never done." Slapping him on the shoulder,"Now lets get over to the temple and see if we can rescue someone else today.",and off again he begins to scan the dark streets for signs of danger(spot 8)thinking to himself that this day will never be forgotten.
Devlin d20+2=3 Tuesday October 21st, 2003 4:02:52 PM
Devlin suppresses a yawn as the others make haste to the Temple. He watches the lad that delivered the message until he can no longer see him, trying to gauge if he meets up with anyone else immediately or not (spot = 3). The young lad is quickly swallowed up by the darkness and he can no longer see him so he offers a smile of his own as his blood starts pumping and he follows after the others.
Vorelle Tuesday October 21st, 2003 5:00:05 PM
"Now what?" Vorelle wonders silently. With a little sigh, she shifts her quiver a little and sets out for the temple. She only hopes that their new lodgings are quiet in the mornings so she can sleep in.....
rose Tuesday October 21st, 2003 10:40:02 PM
rose is about to head for the temple when a note is received telling the group to go to the temple. I wonder what could be the matter. Suddenly every one starts running towards the temple leaving rose far behind "Hey wait for me" Rose runs along behind the others I wish that they would remember that some people have short legs and cant run as fast! Rose thinks as she huffs along.
DM Jan Tuesday October 21st, 2003 11:52:37 PM
Devlin's eyes lose the messenger around a twist in the sewer corridor.
Olyn sets a fast pace, and the rest of the group - some of them dog-tired after a truly eventful day - follow as best they can. What now? What could be so urgent? Vauhwyt finds she has to watch out for Rose as the diminutive halfling does her best to keep up with the pace.
The only things Zayne see on the way - are two dwarven lamp-lighters, who scowl as the group go flying past. "Where are they off too, then, eh?" "Don't know, but I bet they're up to no good." Any further conversation is lost in the distance.
At the Temple of Wardd -
Cade and Avenor are both there. Both are shirtless and look to have been scrubbed to within an inch of their lives. Cade explains that when he and the Wolf guard came across the body of Ba'Bac - the dead half orc was almost half dissolved into a green mush. Fearing poison of some kind, both of them had run to the temple. On the way, Cade had called in a favour from someone he knew who passed the message on to the group. They had both been scrubbed clean of city dirt, and as it happened - had been found to be clear of any poisonous taint. He figured though it would have been best if everyone else got checked too - just in case.
The male cleric stood with them, and who says his name is Clu'eth, grins. "The dice have rolled favourably for these two it seems." He offers to check out the male members of the party, get them cleaned up and test them for poison. Clu'eth has one hand that is much shorter than the other, the fingers are withered and useless. "You all look filthy anyway," he adds, and with a glance at his own deformity, "and the dirt alone takes it's own toll in the end."
Rose's aunt is there too - also a cleric of Wardd. She offers to check the ladies for poison and to lead them to the baths so they can clean up, too. "And what are you doing here at this hour, dear?" she says sternly to Rose. "You all look so tired! You can rest here also if you wish."
Avenor pulls on his shirt and tunic. "I'm going back to report," he says solumnly. "What you say appears to check out. I'd like to talk to you all at some point - maybe the day after the Wedding. Blue Eel - noon. I have a job if you're interested."
And with that, he's off through the front door of the Temple, and presumably to report to the Pack.
rose Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 12:15:08 AM
[b]"Hi Aunty Dar, I was out with my friends delivering a message. I was coming here to see you and then back to bed. I promise."
rose tries to look innocent of any mischief. and after she's been checked and knows she won't hurt her aunt gives her a big hug.
Olyn Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 7:12:46 AM
placing a hand on Clu'eths shoulder, Olyn, meaningfully says: it is good to see you again brother. then dusting off his shirt says again: yes, dirt city is upon us this night and I definately want to clean it off me.
bowing to the halfling priestess, Olyn heads off to the baths, then gets checked for poison, then goes to his room for a change of clothes, some much needed meditation and sleep.
Theodore Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 12:05:06 PM
"Poison?!" the young man's eyes go wide at the thought of melting into a glop of jelly on the floor. "Oh, this is terrible!"
Theodore goes quickly to the baths to scrub himself clean and then reports back to Clu'eth for a poison check.
Zayne Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 4:14:53 PM
Weary he begins to unbuckle and unstrap so he can be checked for poison. Then to nobody in particular,"Now this is what you call a full day."
While he is being checked over he has an idea,"I wonder what the cloaks know about the runes.?" When Clu'eth finishes his examination,he puts on a fresh cahnge of clothes and asks,"Is there anything to eat,I'm pretty hungry afer today."
Devlin Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 5:20:06 PM
Deeply fearing poison and not worried at all about modesty, Devlin immediately starts shucking his clothes as fast as possible and looking around for any clean scrub brushes. "I'll have no part of poison," he says to no one in particular.
Once completed, he will look to eat and get some rest as well. He'll stay where the others desire to stay, whether here in the Wardd or back at their other apartments, he doesn't care. He'll make a note to meet Avenor after the wedding though.
Vauhwyt Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 7:32:47 PM
The liontaur follows Rose's aunt to the baths. "I do not think we are poisoned, but I for one would be very happy to have a bath."
Secretly, she wonders. The note from Cade seemed more urgent that this turned out to be. Vauhwyt keeps her eyes open and looks for plots within things that seem ordinary.
Vorelle Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 9:19:53 PM
Vorelle's normal sense of modesty could be described as "excessive," even when it's just among other women. Tonight, however, she is too tired to put up much of a protest. She bathes with Rose and Vauhwyt and allows herself to be checked for poisons. When the long evening is finally over, she gratefully accepts the offer of a bed for what's left of the night.
DM Jan Thursday October 23rd, 2003 2:46:20 AM
Oooohhhhhhhh........ the utter bliss of being clean again. The clerics also have good news - everyone seems healthy enough - no poison, no disease. What happened to Ba'Bac's corpse, it remains a mystery. Cade tells everyone that Avenor set fire to it before they left for the Temple, just to make sure. He also tells them that he has to leave the group for a while. Something about an errand he has to run that'll take him out of the City, but that he'll return when he can. He shakes hands, gives Theo one of those back-thumping hugs, and he's gone. This probably won't do a thing to settle Vauhwyt's misgivings, but then this was Dirt City after all, where allegiences stacked like a deck of cards - some being occasionally shuffled to the top of the pile, leaving others temporarily buried.
Rose isn't sure her explanation to her aunt has worked or not, but right now she doesn't seem to be in any trouble. Olyn finds quiet and solace, deeper within the Temple, and Zayne will be pleased to note that the kitchen is still open. It's nothing fancy - vegetable stew, bread and sweet cakes, but it tastes good and there's more than enough to go around.
The beds are a little hard, but the sheets are clean and to Vorelle, Theodore, Devlin and anyone else who really need sleep right now - its heaven.
The night passes quietly, and daylight arrives with morning prayer. The group will be aware of the following - Tomorrow - is the wedding. There are things to do, and people to see, treasure to evaluate and distribute amongst themselves. There is a new residence to settle into. And the day after the wedding - another adventure?
((Folks, I'll send email tomorrow with your XPs and I'll also remind you of the treasure list. Lets take a day or two of posting to get the above squared away, then we can begin the next adventure.))
rose Thursday October 23rd, 2003 2:52:01 AM
rose wakes up bright and early to attend morning service with her aunt. when in private she tells her aunt about what has been happening and how she is moving out on her own.
Vauhwyt Thursday October 23rd, 2003 7:40:58 AM
In the morning, Vauhwyt awakes refreshed and clean. Grateful for the care and attention, she makes a donation to the Church (amount to come later when I can look at my PC sheet).
Regrouping with all her new friends over breakfast, the liontaur grins, feeling a measure of relief at last.
"Well, even though we all met only yesterday," she says to those she did not know before, "I feel like I've known you for months!"
"I think our first priority is to return to the apartment, figure out what we have gained, and let that dad know what we discovered."
[OOC: I forget the guy's name -- something with a J? -- but Vauhwyt remembers.]
Olyn Thursday October 23rd, 2003 8:41:10 AM
waking up, then meditating for spells, then going in to the sactuary and praying, then eating, Olyn then meets up with the group and agrees with Vauhwyt upon talking with Jeraldh.
let us go confer with him, then go to the apartment and settle our affairs with what we got. perhaps even spend some gold on furnishings so it isnt so bare. do whatever shopping each of us needs to do to prepare ourselves for whatever comes next, and dont forget to get yourself a nice outfit, I for one plan on attending the wedding of our new friends.
Olyn this time, on the walk to Jeraldhs' will walk beside Theodore, making small talk about what Theo wants out of life, his dreams and goals. Olyn tries getting the reluctant Mage to pipe up and talk some.
Zayne Thursday October 23rd, 2003 11:28:20 AM
Waking up and feeling better after a full nights sleep, the young ranger is once again hungry. Being that age where he is almost constantly hungry and all.
So after breakfast he decides that maybe he can dig up some information on the runes and check with the cloaks to see if they can shed some light on the runes. Turning to Olyn and Vauhwyt,"How important is my presence, I have a little buisness to attend to,this morning. Would you mind if I caught up a little later? It shouldn't take more than a couple hours."Then as an afterthought,"Does anyone want to come with me,even with the promise from the wolves, I don't think it's a good idea for any of us to be running around alone."
Vorelle Thursday October 23rd, 2003 2:48:03 PM
Vorelle sleeps as long as she can, then gets her things together and prepares to go back to Jeraldh's.
When Zayne asks for someone to go with him, she says, "I c-c-c-can g-g-g-o, but d-don't m-m-m-m-make me t-t-talk."
Devlin Thursday October 23rd, 2003 5:28:12 PM
Devlin thoroughly enjoys the bath, the food, and the full night of rest. He rises the next morning and goes to services, even though he isn't an overly religious type but he feels that he owes it to the House in thanks.
Following breakfast, he says to the others, "I'll need suitable clothing for the wedding and I think it would be best if most, if not all, of us attended. Who else would like to do some early morning shopping? After that, I plan on meeting with Avenor tomorrow at the Blue Eel at noon. Anyone else is welcome as well."
OOC: Devlin will be looking to buy suitable clothes for a wedding of this import.
Theodore Thursday October 23rd, 2003 6:16:27 PM
Theodore awakens from his cot with a stretch and a yawn. After rifling through his pack for a few moments, he produces his spellbook and opens the large tome. He sighs as he flips through the mostly blank pages. "One day, Theodore. One day."
As his master taught him, he very studiously read the contents of certain spells he thought he might need for today.
Afterwards, he eats a hearty breakfast before heading out with the others. Obviously upset at Cade's departure from the group, his sadness is lessened by Olyn's company.
Theodore finds the priest comforting enough to carry on a conversation with. "Well, I would like to travel, I think," he replies to Olyn's questions about what he wants to do with his life. "I would like to see interesting things, and learn all I can about as much as I can."
He ducks his head slightly as a touch of melancholy creeps into his voice, "I suppose I would like to meet my parents, too. I was orphaned at an early age and never knew them. I guess the big question is, who am I?"
He laughs suddenly. "I don't even know what my real name is. My master named me Theodore. He could have picked a better name, I suppose. But it stuck and I guess that I don't mind too much."
When they all reach the apartments, Theodore asks to be allowed to visit his master to gather the rest of his possessions and see if Geoffrey has discerned anything about the two items given him last night.
DM Jan Friday October 24th, 2003 1:44:26 AM
On this day - the day before the wedding -
During breakfast (fluffy, scrambled eggs, fruit, fresh bread and preserves), and as they decide on the best course of action, the group will notice a lot of hustle and bustle as clerics and their attendants start to get ready for the wedding, which is due to be blessed at the Temple on the upper level tomorrow morning.
Rose has a quiet talk with her aunt, who seems most concerned that a young member of the family has become embroiled in what sounds like some really nasty politics.
Vauhwyt's donation will be very welcome (folks let me know how much at some stage) and it seems that the group has a few destinations to go to.
Jeraldh will be at home in the Keys district. He looks tired, as though he hasn't slept. The two little boys are playing out front, seemingly no worse for their ordeal. The apartment is as the group left it.
Geoffrey is also at home. It looks like he's been up all night, too - investigating Theo's items.
The Cloaks are all abuzz about rumours of an attempted assassination plot, but until Zayne and Vorelle turn up, they don't appear to know the whole story.
As for shopping - the Halfling Quarter seems to be the best place to go for tailoring. Small, nimble fingers have worked wonders on fine cotton shirts, sweeping cloaks and dandy waistcoats.
Vauhwyt Friday October 24th, 2003 6:02:55 AM
At a point when all seven of us are gathered together -- to go over the division of loot, most likely -- Vauhwyt offers two ideas for the division of treasure.
"First, we could sell the mundane goods and split the proceeds. Three of the seven of us would get the three magic items. Remember that I once worked in the Catacombs. My guess is that the sword is worth about 2,300 gold, and the ring and amulet, 2,000 each! In the futurre, the remaining four who get no item would be 'due' an equivalent item -- the ones who get nothing now would have first claim on items we find in the futurre."
"This is the best option if we intend to keep and use these items."
"Second, we can exchange the magic items at the Catacombs and receive seven vouchers, each worth one-seventh the value of the total worth of the three items. These vouchers would be useful for individuals to buy items there -- or to save for the future. The disadvantage is that we take a 10 percent hit on the transaction -- and more if you decide to exchange your voucher for cash."
"This is the best option if we end up selling or trading the items anyway."
"I personally prefer option two, but I'll be happy to go along with the consensus."
Olyn Friday October 24th, 2003 8:27:18 AM
before we decide on the division, lets find out exactly what those items are. if they can be used to our benefit, i'd rather go with option #1. why lose money on the deal if we have a usable item.
about mid afternoon, Olyn will excuse himself from the group, and heads back to the temple to help in his duties and preparations.
he is a priest of Wardd, and he should be helping his temple out.
Zayne d20+4=6 Friday October 24th, 2003 12:35:42 PM
Agreeing with Olyn about the division of the items, but not really overly concerned,as he is ready to be off and see what the cloaks know.
Slightly pleased with himself for knowing more than they do about the assassination,he shows asks about any history of bad blood between the wolves the priests of Marteaus,or if anyone in the city might know anything about the mutilated bodies that were found.
After his meeting he looks to Vorelle, then his nose begins to twitch with excitment. The fact that he is involved in what he has heard called "what is really going on",makes him feel as if he is doing something more than just getting by,then to Vorelle,"We should hurry up. It wouldn't be smart to offend the wolves by not showing up." remembering her reluctance to speak,he suddenly feels foolish. Not sure what to do or say he pretends to be busy scannig the streets(spot 6)
Devlin Friday October 24th, 2003 2:34:07 PM
While discussing the distribution: Devlin listens in to the discussion about distributing their booty from BaBac with mild interest before replying, "I hope you all know that I lay no claim to the items in question. I really wouldn't feel right having just met you all. You are the ones who did all the original legwork."
Once complete: "Who's off to the Halfling district with me? I think a new shirt, pants and coat are in order for myself. Anyone else is welcome to come with me."
Vorelle Friday October 24th, 2003 2:42:01 PM
Vorelle nods vigorously in response to Zayne's statement. Unless he has other ideas, she leads them back to the apartment to share what they've found out.
When the talk turns to the distribution of the spoils, Vorelle seems profoundly uninterested, responding only with a shrug and a headshake if her opinion is asked. She seems much more interested in avoiding anything to do with the wedding.
Theodore d20+7=10 Friday October 24th, 2003 4:13:02 PM
At Geoffrey's, Theodore collects up the identified items and thanks his master for all of his help. He explains to the older wizard that he will be moving in with his friends to further help them with their upcoming adventure.
As he steps from his master's abode, he slips on both the amulet and the ring. Feeling very secure and important, what with all the fancy jewelry, his chest swells and his chin floats a little higher. His attempt at a swagger looks suspiciously like he's trying out for a marching band as he steps down the tunnels of Dirt City in his too-large tunic and pants.
When he reaches the apartments, he lays the items out on the floor, seeing as they have no table yet, for all to see. "Both the ring and the amulet are devices of a protective nature. The wearer would gain a very small amount of protection, though it's better than nothing. Each item is equal in power, so one doesn't grant more protection than the other."
The young mage pauses for a moment to allow the others to look on their new treasures before speaking up again. "I don't mean to be selfish, but I would like to borrow one of these items, either would be fine. I think that, with a little more security, I might feel less nervous in...certain situations." Theodore's obviously trying to avoid mentioning his cowardly absence during their fight with Ba'Bac.
(One quick thing. Theodore gave the sword to Cade to carry and I never saw anything about him giving it anyone. What did we want to do with this? Assume he gave it to Theodore for identification purposes?)
After the disbursement of treasures, Theodore offers to cast a detect magic on the remaining goods collected from the two archers. He'll lay the goods out in a circle about him, and cast the spell, simply turning from item to item until he detects a magical aura at which time he'll focus the spell for the other two minutes to determine the aura's strength and school of magic it belongs to (spellcraft check = 10).
Vauhwyt (second post today) Friday October 24th, 2003 9:12:16 PM
"Well, it seems the sensible thing is to keep these items. Anyone, of course, can use the ring and amulet. Who can even use a sword?"
"Devlin," she adds, "Perhaps you do not realize it, but we had met for the first time as a group only an hour or two before you joined us! You shared in all the dangers without hesitation. You should have an equal share of treasurre."
"Those who can use the sword should roll a die -- winner gets the sword. Those who do not roll for the sword should roll for the ring and amulet."
The liontaur suggests that those who do not get a magic item should split the mundane treasure -- and she volunteers to sell the mundane stuff at the Catacombs.
Vauhwyt is very curious about whether anything else will turn up magical.
=============
The liontaur donates five gold pieces to the church and uses her very last five to buy a white long sleeved shirt embroidered with colored threads in geometric designs.
DM Jan Saturday October 25th, 2003 2:17:47 AM
Curiously enough... the other items light up like candles once the spell is applied...
Vauhwyt (Saturday Post) Saturday October 25th, 2003 7:46:03 AM
"Wowsy!" Vauhwyt exclaims delightedly when she finds out that more items are magical.
"But more serously, remember that it costs 100 to 110 gold pieces to identify items. We've already spent at least 300 for the first three. Do we have the cash to identify more?"
[OOC: Jan, sorry I'm losing track of party treasure. Do we have enough cash to identify everything?]
"Oh, I just remembered something," the liontaur adds. "Didn't Jeraldh say something about a reward? That could be a help if we are short of cash right now."
rose Saturday October 25th, 2003 2:51:58 PM
Rose has been listening to the discussion and finally speaks up "Why dont we wait to decide what to do about the items until we know what they are. Let's see if Jeraldh can identify them or will pay for identification. Before we go shopping lets figure out how to furnish this apartment. I would like to buy a Halfling style bunk bed, they are 6' tall, 4' long and 3' 6" wide. You can get them with anywhere from 1 to 3 bunks, they have two drawers at the bottom and for the 1 bunk shelves above the bed, there's a ladder going up each side of the bed. I figure that each of us girls can use a shelf for our belongings. you can get curtains or doors for the shelves and bed, I think curtains would keep things out of sight and easier to get into than doors."
Rose sits back and waits for more ideas on furnishing the apartment.
Vauhwyt Saturday October 25th, 2003 3:44:56 PM
Vauhwyt smiles at Rose's ideas. "A simple matress in a corner will do fine for me," she says. "We need a big table and some chairs in the main room."
Zayne Saturday October 25th, 2003 5:32:10 PM
Listening to the group his mind begins to wander. What if something happens during the wedding, who is behind all this madness?
After a few moments his mind wanders back to the apartment. Listening to Rose he figures the women already have it decorated so why bother.
rose Saturday October 25th, 2003 6:08:19 PM
rose is thinking on how to decorate the girls room "vorelle, vauhwyt what are your favorite colors?
rose Saturday October 25th, 2003 10:14:25 PM
rose is now ready to go "I'll go to Jerald and tell him what's happened and also see if he can identify the items"
she picks up the items and heads next door.
Vorelle Sunday October 26th, 2003 10:20:23 AM
By the time Vorelle is able to say, "G-g-g-green," Rose has already left.
rose Sunday October 26th, 2003 3:07:53 PM "I heard that, green is one of my favorites also" rose yells back
DM Jan Sunday October 26th, 2003 5:29:35 PM
Rose has some luck when she goes next door. Jeraldh is VERY interested to hear what went on. The part about Marteaus seems to have him particularly worried.
As for the items, he says he can have them looked at, and they'll be ready the day after tomorrow.
rose Sunday October 26th, 2003 5:56:35 PM
rose leaves the items with Jerald and goes back to the apartment. "The items will be appraised by tomorrow. Vauhnwyt I need to know your favorite color. Any ideas on how to furnish this place?"
DM Jan Sunday October 26th, 2003 8:13:11 PM
The day progresses - the group come and go as they attend to their various tasks.
Rose's brothers arrive with a hand pulled cart which has various pieces of a bed in it, plus some bed linen. The apartment soon becomes full of the sound of hammers as they start to put the bed together. Olyn heads off to the Temple and finds himself laying out ceremonial garments for the wedding tomorrow. Zayne and Vorelle get their brains picked for exactly 'what went on' the night before. Zayne gets the feeling it might help him rise in the Cloak ranks at some point, if he had any ambitions in that direction. Geoffrey tells Theodore to visit often and keep up with his spell study.
It's fairly easy to get "very" basic bedding over in the market for next to nothing. As for table and chairs - two dwarf furniture makers are having an argument about a large conference table and 6 chairs they've acquired - do they sell it on, as it is, or do they use it and saw the legs off to get it to the right hieght? They paid 5GP for them.
Both Devlin and Vauhwyt are able to buy what they need in terms of extra clothing for around 4GP.
City folk everywhere seem to be busy, for the wedding tomorrow will be a city-wide affair, with most folks crowding the upper level area around the Temple, and huge, boisterous street and sewer tunnel parties are planned afterwards.
Finally - night falls, and a few hours later, dawn starts to break above, and the tunnels start to get busy below.
It is the day of the wedding.
Vauhwyt Sunday October 26th, 2003 8:35:35 PM
The liontaur thinks before answering Rose. "I never really thought about it before. I love white, because it is so clean. But I also like red and black. But I am very flexible. You all can have any color you want."
"And let's buy the conference table from the dwarves! That's exactly what we need, and the price is good!"
Vauhwyt gathers the non-magical goods and takes them to market or to the Catacombs to sell -- if no one objects.
If she can afford it, Vauhwyt will buy a big ten-foot diameter featherbed to put in a corner -- or if that is too pricey, then something like it stuffed in hay or cotton. And a few sheets and a blanket in her size. White, please.
[OOC: Jan, do you want me to visit the Catacombs for the transaction? Or can we just assume it happens easily and you tell us the proceeds. Or rather, after paying for all the identifies and selling stuff, how much cash do we have? Thanks!]
Vorelle Monday October 27th, 2003 11:36:20 AM
Vorelle cheerfully pitches in to help furnish/decorate the new apartment, although her suggestions for "decor" tend to run to stout locks for the front door.
She flinches every time the wedding is mentioned in her presence, and it seems to be more than just her usual reluctance to go where there are lots of people. She cannot be persuaded to attend.
Olyn Monday October 27th, 2003 12:27:04 PM
after getting everything ready. Olyn excuses himself for a couple of hours to check in with the group. entering the apartment he lets out a soft whistle saying as he looks around: I like it. looks homier. and I can use the table as a desk when its not being used for meals so no extra furnishings for me is needed.
eyeing the pile of items gathered from the fight, and hearing their properties, Olyn points at the amulet and a ring saying: If I was to chosse for something, those 2 items would be it. the amulet first then the ring. but if someone else could use the item more, then ill just take a division of the treasure thats left over and save for something else. (disregard my email stating my #1 #2 #3 wants)
after talking with everyone and getting there sense of goings, Olyn looks at the time and realizes he has stayed longer than he anticipated. excusing himself saying: Im needed back at the temple. there is still alot to do and im required to do some of it. make sure all of you stand together at the wedding, ill try to be near you. so we can be there as a group, and not as individuals. let us show them that it is Our support they get. and with that said he leaves, returning to the temple and reassumes his duties.
Zayne Monday October 27th, 2003 12:35:03 PM
Zayne doesn't really care tha much about the decorations of the apartment, although he does agree with Vorelle's suggestion about heavy locks.
When he can find the time he,cleans and checks his equipment.
The day of the wedding he is not overly thrilled but doesn't want to offend the wolves by not showing up. A point he brings up when Vorelle announces her refusal to go. Also bringing up the fact that there will be a feast that comes around once in a lifetime.
Vauhwyt Monday October 27th, 2003 12:55:26 PM
The liontaur suggests to Vorelle that if she doesn't want to go, no problem. But if she wants to stand in the back with Vauhwyt, odds are anyone looking will stare at a liontaur and not even notice someone standing slightly off to the side.
Vauhwyt Monday October 27th, 2003 2:23:46 PM
The liontaur looks dismayed when she realizes that, aside from Rose's visit, the group has not met with Jeraldh. She rushes off to meet with the guy, letting him know that his kids are okay.
After that she has a few errands of her own, but she will return in time to go to the Wedding.
[OOC: I'm e-mailing you, Jan.]
Theodore Monday October 27th, 2003 2:41:35 PM
Having completely forgotten about the upcoming event, Theodore becomes quite frantic about not having anything to wear. "I can't be dressed like this!" He wags his drooping sleeves at Vauhwyt. "I'll be right back!"
He dashes from the apartment into the hustle of the other hundreds of citizens with the same disease as himself: procrastination. Quite possibly the worst illness ever inflicted by Marteaus.
He squirms and winds his way through the crowd, getting more than a few curses and dirty looks. But valiantly he fights against the flow of this human sea and eventually makes his way to a clothier. He requests a simple robe of pure white color with a silver sash for his garb.
If such an outfit is not available, Theodore tries to choose a set of clothes that properly fits him and appeals somewhat to the eye better than his current costume.
Devlin Monday October 27th, 2003 5:05:49 PM
Devlin returns from his clothing expedition to find the women discussing color patterns and the outfitting of the room. He wrinkles his nose at that and after dropping off his clothing, he makes his exit, letting them know that whatever they decide he is fine with. He then goes to the nearest tavern to spend his time there while waiting for the time when he'll have to return to the apartments to change clothes for the wedding. He definitely wants to go with his new friends and looks forward to the ceremony and party afterwards to get to know them better.
Rose Monday October 27th, 2003 7:34:18 PM
Rose is in the middle of thinking of how to decorate a room in green, white, red and black and make it look nice when there is a knock at the door. she runs to the door "Who is it" Upon finding out that it's her brothers (they used a secret pass word from when we were kids :) she opens the door and gives them big hugs. "Junior, Rin I would like you to meet my friends; Vorelle, Vauhwyt, Olyn, Zane, Devlin, and Theodore. Guys these are my brothers Ianven Jr, and Petorin." Turning back to her brothers "So what did you bring me? I knew that Mom and Dad would send you over with some things soon. Oooh, a bed and bedding. A feather mattress, ooh.
Everybody notices that the bed and mattress are in good condition but not new, the bedding how ever is new, white sheets, green blanket, white comforter with green vines and red roses.
Rose helps her brothers (or gets in the way depending on how you look at it) when the bed is set up and made she puts some items on the bottom shelf "Vorelle, Vauhwyt you two can choose which of the higher shelves you want. I think we should put anything we're worried about being stolen in the drawers and buy locks for them
Rose then heads off to the shopping disrict to buy some more things :)
She goes to her sister's store "Hi Wanda. Have you heard I've moved? Do you have any nice clothes for the wedding?
rose Monday October 27th, 2003 8:00:00 PM
Just as Wanda's about to answer some more customers come in so Rose starts browsing about the store. She heads first to the clothing area looking for something nice for the wedding she doesn't see anything and when the customers leave she asks Wanda if she knows where Rose can get a dress. Wanda says she has one Rose can borrow. Rose goes back to shopping getting a covered basket and filling it with sewing supplies: needles, scissors, pins, thimble, a few patterns for human and halfling clothes, assorted colors of sewing thread, assorted colors of embrordiery thread. She heads to the fabric counter and buys 1/2 yard each of (sq yard is 3' by 3', 1/2 of that is 3' by 1.5') of black, white, green and red cotton. She starts getting worried about the time and rushes over to the food area where she buys 2 lb tea, 1 gal honey, 1/2 lb each salt, cinnamon, pepper, and ginger, 10 lb flour, 2 lb cheese, 5 lb each onions, potatoes, and carrots, 1 bunch celery, 2 cans tomatoes, 4 loaves bread, 2 lb cheese and 5 lb stew meat including bone.
After paying for the items and giving wanda a goodbye hug Rose heads for takes the dress she borrowed and heads back to the apartment. (note if rose didn't have enough money she went to parents to get some of the money she left there, went back to store to pay and get items then back to apartment)
at the apartment rose puts the dress on her bed, the sewing kit and cloth on her shelf, and starts a stew at the fire place (the meat, tomatoes, some of the other stuff) takes a bath and gets ready for the wedding.

The Wedding - For those attending, there's a huge crowd stood in front of Upper level of the Temple of Wardd. Of course this IS Dirt City, and with all the accomplished thieves in the crowd, it's fair to say that purse lifters may be at work, so while everyone's attention is MOSTLY on the wedding - half an eye is kept on the lady or fellow stood nearby. Just in case.
Funny how the bride's father is the spitting image of Mr Silent.
The groom looks as pleased as Punch, as soon as the wedding vows are exchanged - like he's just landed a very lucrative contract. The bride looks beautiful, but has a predatory look in her eyes whenever she looks at her new husband. This will be an interesting and in all probability - a lively marriage.
Some of the group will spot Olyn on the steps with other clerics of his order.
It's all over very quickly, and the parties get in full swing. At this point the group can wander where they wish - congratulate the bride and groom, talk to anyone in the crowd. Avenor looks busy, keeping his eyes on security for the newly-weds. Bull - the minotaur cleric of Domi, who fought with the Gold Dragons is there. The Prince of Thieves is there, but is surrounded by an array of guards and folk in important -looking robes. Gregory the wizard, all of Rose's family, the sailors - everyone.
Parties begin to blossom down below in the main sewer tunnels - near each Tower, in the markets, in the halfling quarter, and for a few hours Dirt City is a place of gaiety.
In contrast, the Temple of Wardd is a haven of rest, full of relieved clerics, putting their feet up after an important occasion.
People wander around the sewer corridors, offering food from trays, and anything from plain old ale, to weird-looking, brightly coloured drinks that give one heck of a kick.
As the day begins to draw to a close, folk begin to wander back to their Houses, or gather on the corridors - talking quietly - business, always business.
rose d20+5=22 Tuesday October 28th, 2003 2:27:55 AM
rose paid 10g for her items.
at the wedding rose keeps an eye out so that her things wont be stolen (spot 22) she doesnt drink any alcohol and stays with some of her friends. as she runs into family members she introduces everybody.
Olyn Tuesday October 28th, 2003 11:03:39 AM
after the wedding is over, Olyn excuses himself from his fellow clergymen and approaches the group. making small talk and really not talking about anything in particular he makes revel with them.
standing in the line the congratulate the new couple, he approaches the 2 and says: it gladdens my heart to see this union. may your bond bring together the city and the peace it rightly deserves. then taking their hands in his, he touches the back of their hands to his forehead at the same time, looks up and smiles, and then removes himself back to the conclave of priests.
when all is quiet, and everyone is gone, Olyn busy's himself in taking down the decorations, and making the sanctuary once again the look he has grown accustomed to.
and then, later in the night, as the city starts going to sleep, Olyn makes his way back to the apartment, and to his new comrades.
Devlin Tuesday October 28th, 2003 11:37:19 AM
Devlin fights through extreme boredom as he sits through the wedding. There is actually a part of him that is disappointed nothing unusual or exciting happened during the ceremony. It is with these thoughts in his mind that he looks forward to the revelry after the ceremony, hoping that he can find more enjoyment out in the city. He celebrates with his friends but will stay out late carousing well into the night.
Zayne Tuesday October 28th, 2003 11:38:33 AM
Sitting through the ceremony,he is excited about the feast afterwards and immediatly looks for Devlin.
Spotting him in the crowd he walks over to him and says,"How about you and I put all this free ale to good use?" His long nose twitching excitedly."They did go to a lot of trouble of setting it out, don't you think it would be a shame if it went to waste?" Grinning mischevioulsy, giving him a striking resemblence to a ferret.
Theodore Tuesday October 28th, 2003 1:27:24 PM
Theodore thoroughly enjoys the revelry after the wedding. A tankard of ale finds its way into his hand and, a few minutes later, his cheeks have taken on a reddish tone. As the eager mage reaches for another mug, it explodes in a spray of alcohol and pottery. Several folks glance about as to the cause of the small explosion, but find no clues. Theodore notices his master, Geoffrey, standing nearby, talking amiably amongst some peers, supposedly not having noticed his shocked pupil little more than a few yards away.
Having learned his lesson, Theodore drifts back to where his friends are and comments on the amount of fun he's having.
As the afternoon wears on, Theodore remembers that he still hasn't purchased himself a bed to sleep on for the night. Hoping to find a store that's open, he departs from the merry making in search of a small bed. Afterwards, he makes his way back to the apartment, quite exhausted from the day's events and eager to find out what tomorrow will bring.
Vorelle Tuesday October 28th, 2003 5:21:54 PM
Vorelle skips the wedding, instead taking the opportunity to head outside the walls for some target practice. Glad though she is of the fresh air and freedom outside the city, she is careful not to stray too far from its protective walls.
She returns in the late afternoon, gets cleaned up, and allows herself a little time to marvel over the newly-decorated apartment. The sound furniture and cheerful decor are a far cry from the grimy rooming house where she'd been living, and the squalid Grubber shanty where she grew up.
Vauhwyt Tuesday October 28th, 2003 10:25:00 PM
The liontaur enjoys the wedding and festivities, but she tries to stay in the back and out of sight. She feels a little uncomfortable -- although Rose's family is very nice -- so she mostly sits with her new comrades.
