Friday September 26th, 2003 2:57:04 PM

Gilan side-steps the rapke attacks, bringing his shield around to guard himself with. He glances to Trellus and wishes that he had the time to activate his necklace, but he must think about staying alive. He brings his scimitar cutting in at the rapke with grim determination (used guidance to reroll attack, hit: 21, damage: 6).

Gilan will move backwards away from the rapke and cast guidance on himself once he has put enough distance between them. "A little assistance over here someone...maybe several people attacking the same rapke."

Saturday September 27th, 2003 5:57:46 PM

Flea moves into position to her left, some 25 feet south of Rapke #4, tumbling if necessary to avoid any attacks [tumble=16]. She reaches into her quiver and extracts a brightly fletched arrow. As she sights down it's shaft she waits until the rapke turns slightly to one side and lets loose her arrow [Hit AC 28; +2 flankiing, +1 point blank shot, +1 bless (forgot to add to roll) for 4hp dmg and 9hp sneak attack dmg]

If Rapke 4 is still standing, Flea will send a second arrow

Flea [AC 19; Haste; Bless]  d20+3=11
Saturday September 27th, 2003 6:02:03 PM

[OOC somehow submitted last post before finished - will continue here]

If Rapke #4 is still standing, Flea will send a second arrow in its direction. Otherwise she will shift her attention to Rapke #5 [Hit AC11].

Anuk (AC 18 - shaken (rd 2 of 7), seal of haste)  d20+10=13 d8+6=13 d20+10=24 d8+6=9
Monday September 29th, 2003 1:12:04 PM

(OOC: I'm assuming Jake was hurt and that Anuk is still shaken. BTW, Mikey, in your email you said the effect lasted 2d6 rds, but in your post above you say 4d6 rds. If it is 4d6, let me know and I'll re-roll for rounds).

Trying to shake his nagging fears, Anuk quickly moves forward until he's within 30 feet of his prey (rapke #3). He stops, aims, and looses his arrow. It flies wide and disappears into the thick grasses in the distance (hits AC 13 for 13 pts).

Anuk suddenly realizes that either everything else seems a bit slower than usual, or perhaps he's a bit faster. Whatever the reason, he silently thanks the gods as he reloads his bow. His bowstring snaps and this time, his arrow finds its mark, burying itself deep in the creature's hide. (hits AC 24 for 9 pts)

Twinge continues to slither at Anuk's feet, unwilling to move away from his newfound friend.

(Bonuses: +1 atk for mw arrows, +1 atk/dmg Point Blank Shot, +2 dmg for str bonus, +2 dmg Favored Enemy, +2 atk and +1 dmg bracers of archery.

Penalties, -2 to atk, AC, & saves)

Monday September 29th, 2003 3:49:04 PM

Grymash growls a little when the wild rapke tries to claw at him. Gry grabs at the rapke (Touch attack, hit ac 25) and attempts to push the rapke back off of him (Grapple check 23).

At the rapke, Grymash bellows, "I said STOP! Are you so eager to die? If you wish to meet Gargul, your turn shall come!"

Turning back to the water "bubble" Grymash continues, "Reveal yourself ... NOW!" Gry draws a dagger and holds in a throwing posture. "Or I will!"

Sterlin begins moving towrds grymash even if it means attacks and damage. Sterlin yells with an heavy amount of seriousness," Grymash, do not harm it! I will stop you if I must. "

Sterlin moves forward to block Grymash's attempt to force the bubble to pop if he does so. Grymash pushes the Rapke back, but it ignores him and steps forward again in rage.
Trellus cures Jake of some damage, [Jake, btw, is my character, and yes he was quite severely hurt, about 1/2 hp in a single attack...], Flea and Anuk pepper the Rapkes with some arrows, and Jake tries to inflict some damage on Rapke #4. His speed increase helps, as he's able to get one attackt hrough, dealing a significant wound to it.
But the Rapke refuse to be ignored. Sterlin, stepping up to stop Grymash, is startled as Rapke #2 gets out of its entanglement and claws him for 8 damage. Rapke #3, though pushed away, moves in (provoking an attack of opportunity from Grymash if he wishes) and bites at him. (Hit AC 24, did 13 damage, if it did hit Grymash).
Rapke #5 bites at Trellus (AC 17 for 10 damage), while #4 continues clawing at Jake (22 more damage to Jake.)
The bubble continues to pulse faster, but other than that gives no response. Grymash is surprised to feel that the evil feeling is fading away. He has no clue what's going on. (It would take an Int check, DC 20, to figure it out, or Knowledge: Plains DC 15)

(Mikey, the second AC number is against evil creatures [protection from evil]. If these rapke are evil, they missed me the last two turns.)
-----------------
The battle that rages around the half-orc is just a low muffled sound in his ears. Grymash's eyes dart back and forth in the peaceful silence! The "blackness" is leaving ... the haunting whispers go quiet. "So strange," he thinks! A hesitant smile forms across his face. (Int. check 18, nat. 20. He has a -2 Int. modifer!)

Suddenly a blast of sound assaults Grymash's ears. Growls and shreiks of the rapke, arrows whipping through the air, the shouts of his packmates ... the sounds of battle!

Grymash turns his head back to Sterlin and shouts, "OK ... STERLIN burst bubble then!" With a flick of his wrist, Gry tosses the dagger to the ground at Sterlin's feet.

The rapke attacks once again and anger begins to well up in Grymash's face. Veins begin to swell, muscles tense and grow. Grymash bellows, "GRY SAY STOP ....AUUGGGHHHH!! NOW MASH KILL!!"

The Eye of Gargul on Grymash's buckler begins to glow a bright hot light. An intensity matched only by Grymash's feral rage. With his double axe twirling and cutting through the grass, Gry hacks into the rapke.

Sterlin winces from the damage, but continues forward to the bubble. He places a foot upon the dagger so that it may not be picked up without a fight. He then studies the bubble before him so that he may make an educated decision.

" Gry, do not harm the bubble yet."

The gnome's short stature does not permit her a view of what is on the other side of the water blob, but the shouts from Grymash and Sterlin concern her. As she strains to see, she witnesses the Rapke attacks on Trellus and Jake. The attack on the fighter is horrific.

Nimbly Flea dodges and weaves about to avoid the wild Rapke (Tumble=18) while keeping them between herself and her fighting partner, Anuk.

She selects two more of the better quality red fletched arrows and looses them one after the other in the direction of Rapkes #4 and #5.

Trellus watches all his healing work get quickly erased as the Rapke blasts into Jake again.

At least Gry is back, he thinks with relief.

And then the other Rapke tries to rip his thread. Trellus barely gets his shield up in time to block the blow.
By Domi! Where's Gilan?

The young cleric again taps Jake,
CURE SERIOUS WOUNDS - 17 hp

Then he stows the wand and draws his mace, while keeping his shield up on the Rapke.

Meanwhile, Domi's Hammer swings at Rapke #3 again, before disappearing.

Standing firm, Anuk keeps his eye on rapke #3 and fires another arrow. The strain of the moment causes him to falter, and he misses the beast, his arrow flying high over the grasses (Hits AC 11 - natural 1. Bleah.)

Seeing Trellus' magic hammer suddenly disappear, Anuk get worried, his fear growing a bit. Light! Gotta concentrate...gotta concentrate...just concentrate..." Repeating this mantra in his mind, he focuses, shoots...and misses again. (hits AC 14)

Flea
Saturday October 4th, 2003 7:20:39 PM

Flea looks about and tries to take note of the positions of her pack-mates. She waves encouragingly at Anuk, and bears witness to Gilan and Trellus' gestures of healing towards the fighter, Jake. She can't see the other's from her vantage point. The gnome takes a deep cleansing breath and readies herself for what is to come next.

Grymash
Sunday October 5th, 2003 1:47:49 AM

With the white of his eyes set ablaze and gorged with blood, Grymash revels in the rapture of his rage. Every slash with his double axe sends sprays of blood into the air. Grymash savors the hot crimson fluid as it splatters against his flickering tongue. He spits it back at the beast in a fine mist as he prepares for another attack.

DM Kevin
Sunday October 5th, 2003 3:19:09 PM

Grymash drops a rapke to the ground after a brutal assualt.

Fleas fires two arrows which strike true and wound two Rapke.

Between Trellus and Gilan, Jake is healed a total of 21 points.

Gilan then steps up to take a chunk out of a Rapke.

Jake swings and hits two Rapke.

Suddenly the bubble bursts. A giant wyrm or snake like creature with wings flies straight up into the air. The rapke become very afraid and begin fleeing.

Flea  d20+23=33
Sunday October 5th, 2003 4:44:07 PM

For a moment Flea stands in shock, her mouth open, staring in horror and in awe as the creature rises into the air. He shortbow still in her hand, she slowly backs away, hoping to gain the tall grasses and hide. As she passes by Anuk, she whispers, "lets make like the Rapke, and get outta' here!"

If Flea is successful in reaching the tall grasses at the edge of the clearing she will stand very still and attempt to blend into the shadows (Hide=33).

Trellus
Monday October 6th, 2003 11:11:21 AM

"Oh Light, not again," the blond man mumbles as the Moth takes to the air.

Despite Gry going a bit Walker there, Trellus isn't sure if the Moth is good or evil.

It is really big however, and the gnome's idea sounds pretty good.

"Right behind you Flea. Let's weave, dudes."

Trellus also scampers back to the tall grass, keeping an eye for the Moth and the Rapke.

Jake
Monday October 6th, 2003 1:29:48 PM

Jake sees the two rapke turn, running, and chuckles. Then, he turns to see what came outta the bubble. He probably does the standard blink, lean his head back up, see something really weird, and stumble backwards shocked. (heh)
Then, he turns and makes his way after the others, nearly tripping on his feet.

Gilan [AC: 18*19 dodge*] (barkskin+2)(-2 for 10 rounds)
Monday October 6th, 2003 2:44:03 PM

Gilan watches as the rapke turn tail and run. He is all too sure that it is not them that made them do that. As he looks towards the bubble and notices the moth come out he can only mouth the word....OH SHOOT.

Taking the hint from his companions he makes his way to the tall grass, watching the creature all the way as he does. He plans on not being surprised this time around.

Monday October 6th, 2003 4:15:35 PM

(part of last turn)
Grymash growls in delight as the rapke falls in blood-gushing pieces to the ground. As another rapke begins to flee, Grymash takes his opportunity to attack.

(Attack of Opportunity if allowed. Hit AC: 20 for 21 points of damage.)

(beginning new turn)
Not totally satisfied that the corpse of the rapke is "completely dead", Grymash raises his axe for another strike. Suddenly, Gry finds himself covered in shadow. Something is blocking the heat of the suns rays. He quickly glances upward to view the colossal wyrm snake its way through the sky. His eyes grow even wider. Whatever blood still left in his mouth comes spitting out from the surprise. The image of this sobering sight shocks Grymash from his rage. He stares motionless for a few seconds slack-jawed, unable to gather his thoughts.

Grymash turns to Sterlin and yells, "Gry NOT do it! Me say NOT poke bubble!! No, No!" (bluff 13 :)

Gry takes a defensive posture (full defense) and bellows, "Trellus right ... HIDE ... FAST!" Grymash backs away from the bubbles edge and toward the tall grass ... guarding everyone elses escape. (His double movement distance is 80-ft)

DM Kevin
Monday October 6th, 2003 8:58:34 PM

The moth swoops and then flies away chaseing nearby prarie sparrows. Now and then, a few of the unlucky sparrows are swallowed whole by the huge jaws of the moth.

The rapke which were not killed have run so far you do not feel threatened by them at this time.

The plainswalker appears from nowhere and approaches. He watches the moth fly into the distance for awhile and then speaks.

" This happens sometimes. A wild rapke is drowned and a new life emerges from its death. The moth, however, is a good creature. A wild and dangerous creature, but a good creature. "

Flea
Monday October 6th, 2003 10:19:46 PM

"Waaah?" The gnome is incredulous, when the walker gives his explanation. Tugging on the ranger's sleeve she looks into his open human face framed by curly hair, now slightly matted by sweat, and says, " 'Nuk, help me with this. Piggies turn into Bounders, and Bounders turn into Rapke, and Rapke turn into these flying things, called 'moths'?" The gnome stops, then starts again, "No! No! Rapke turn into Bounders. Stop! Um, Rapke make Piggies!" Flea clasps her hands to the sides of her head, and goes on "water is good, no bad, and...and...dark is shady, and light is white, which is bad...and...and..." the gnome looks at Anuk beseechingly, hping the ranger can help her understand what they have been called on to witness.

Trellus
Monday October 6th, 2003 10:28:38 PM

The cleric gives the plainswalker a sour face.
"Black, do all these lesson HAVE to involve us getting ripped by rapke? You could've just told us."

He sighs.
"Pigs make bounders make rapke make moths. OK. The Barons have, what, corrupted some bounders and rapke, making them more intelligent and more evil."

A look of concern crosses his face as he reaches an unlooked for conclusion.
"Uh, they can't corrupt moths, can they?"

Grymash  d20+8=20
Monday October 6th, 2003 11:12:12 PM

"AUUGGHHHH, STOP STOP STOP!! TOO MUCH, TOO MUCH!" yells Grymash. He throws off his helmet in frustration and starts pulling on his matted hair. Gry stomps wildly back to the rapke's body and grabs it by the leg. Then he drags it back, most of the way, before he impatiently flings the corpse haphazardly next to the party.

With one swoop of his axe, Grymash severs its head, picks it up and presents it to the pack. You tell Gry this a piggie rapke? No ... uh bouncer?!" Grymash cracks open jaw with a dagger. Bones snap and crack along with the moist sound of ripping flesh. Gry pauses to peer inside the gaping mouth. "Where the moth? Gry not see it. You say moth come from rapke."

Grymash tosses the head over his shoulder as he turns his attention to the body. With his dagger he continues to cleave through the chest and abdomen. After tearing open its hide, Gry begins to sift through its entrails. "Where moth ... Gry not see it!"

(Survival check 20, for his skillful carving of the rapke.)

Jake
Tuesday October 7th, 2003 12:27:09 AM

Jake chuckles.. "Woah, woah thare, axeman," he pats Grymash on the shoulder with the dull of his blade. "Yer not gonna find 'em inside. Takes time. Like those catapillahs, in pods? Ya see? Hey, Walker," he calls to the plains guy, "So, whatcher sayin' is, tha moth thin'...eats them Bounders, right? Like, tha lord o' tha plains?"

Anuk  d20+10=29
Tuesday October 7th, 2003 1:27:51 AM

At the sight of the moth erupting from the bubble, Anuk finally gives in to his fear, turns, and runs, Twinge keeping pace. He finally stops with the rest of the pack, gasping for breath.

Looking back at the moth disappearing into the distance, Anuk scratches his his head and starts thinking out loud. "I dunno, Flea. Piggies, bounders, rapke, and then moths. They're all related, but I'm guessin' there's more...somethin's gotta complete the circle...there must be at least one more link in the chain. I dunno...I dunno..." He sits on the ground and continues thinking, trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together. (Knowledge Plains 29)

Tiev and Zilia
Tuesday October 7th, 2003 7:27:25 PM

Two wasps land lightly on the shoulder of Gilan, the druid. The larger one buzzes in an animated fashion, and then awaits instruction from his friend. The smaller one makes a few preening gestures, and looks to the larger wasp for instruction.

Gilan [AC: 18*19 dodge*] (barkskin+2)(-2 for 9 rounds)
Tuesday October 7th, 2003 7:56:42 PM

Gilan glances to the others as they run this transformation so far. He shakes his head at the very idea and then shrugs. "Nature will find a way." He leaves it at that as he turns to the Walker. "I take it that part of the lesson here is that there is good even in that which can be perverted. That there is a cycle to all life that is followed no matter what others may want." That seems rather clear to him, nature has constantly surprised him with many things.

As his wasps land on his shoulders and Tiev buzzes in his ear he shakes his head. "Yes little one you may go and eat...take the little one with you." With another look at Tiev he smiles and lightly rests a finger on his abdomen and strokes it. "Yes I am fine and you did a good job with the young one." Turning to Zilia he strokes her as well and smiles to her. " Hope you are enjoying the excitement little one.

The Walker listens as you all comment and then responds, " You have all asked good questions and made wise observations. The wild rapke, when drowned, sometimes transform into the moth. The moth is semi-intelligent and often sad, for as a good creature, it is aware of the evil deeds it has commited. Perhaps knowledge of a darker past helps the moth in his journey into that which is good. The Baron's men make their rapke a bit less wild. The change only occurs in rapke who are still completely undomesticated. The moth feeds on the prarie sparrows. It is a very tight cycle of life we have here in the plains. I must go for awhile. You should rest, for your final event to be witnessed, for now, is a good seven days of journey by foot. I will meet up with you again. Good luck on your journey."

Wednesday October 8th, 2003 9:31:39 AM

The cleric stares at Sterlin with a stunned expression. He figured his friend would go Walker someday, but not this soon.

"Sterlin, are you really sure this is the time?" he asks. "The pack is weaving together real tight, and we need your thread."

Anuk
Wednesday October 8th, 2003 10:32:19 AM

"Leaving, eh? Already? Light, I didn't see this coming. Well, you are always Bloodpack, Sterlin." Anuk sends a heart tickle to him, then to each of the others in turn.

"We will miss you while you're gone. Can we help you prepare? May we ask where you're going?"

Flea
Wednesday October 8th, 2003 4:10:15 PM

Hanging her head to hide her emotions, Flea bites her lip and stays quiet. First Milo, now Sterlin she thinks how many of us will this place claim?

Recognizing her selfishness, Flea realizes deep down, this is the quiet druid's destiny. She drops her pack, and fumbles in a side pocket, taking out a pale blue ribbon made of finest silk. With a look at Gilan, the gnome approaches Sterlin and hands him the ribbon. "Wear this, so than when you come back, we will know you. You know,um, in case you, um, change." After handing the ribbon to Sterlin, Flea quickly turns away, and goes to stand beside Anuk. She takes some small comfort when the ranger sends out the heart tickle.

Gilan takes the orb from Sterlin with tears starting to form in his eyes. "I will guide them true." With a quirk of his head he looks to the Walker and then back to Sterlin. "Be well my friend...nature will bring us together again......I feel it." He takes Sterlin's hand and then pulls him into a hug that says more than words ever could.

He watches as Flea gives him one of the ribbons that he gave to her. He shakes his head at the gesture and smiles. "As she says...change is everywhere and works through time." He backs off to allow the others to move forward as the will. He sends out a last heart touch to one he calls brother...and friend.

The rogue does a quick survey of her equipment. Still plenty of arrows for her bow, water in her water skin, and about half the trail rations she started out with (thanks to Gry's foraging). The only void is the hole in her heart left when Sterlin made his departure.

"We can either rest up here a bit, or strike out. I'm good either way," Flea announces to the group. She frowns a little when she sees the wounded, and continues "If you all want to rest up a bit, I can cook up something, but I'll need a fire."

Jake
Thursday October 9th, 2003 12:40:56 AM

Jake shakes his head and checks to make sure his weapons are all clean off to the side. All this tear-breaking, heart-jurking stuff was never his style. Besides, he says to himself, Sterlin's breaking away from the pack, and they're all treating it like he's been accepted into the priesthood or something. More than ever, he feels alone..and all this heart touching, if anything, makes Jake feel sad. Where's a good brawl, a going away party involving pretty girls and lots of drink? That's what we should be doing, Jake thinks.

Trellus
Thursday October 9th, 2003 11:28:28 AM

Trellus gravely clasps Sterlin's forearm.
"Many shadows, Sterlin."
And watches him walk away.

Turning toward the group he sighs, and then gets back to the business of staying alive.

"Gry, could you see how much water is left on the boat?" he asks.

And then to their new guide, "Gilan, can you weave that plant tangling pick that Sterlin likes? That's a shady pick to have."

Finally, "How about we move off a bit further from that water hole, and make our bug mats and call last thread on the day?"

If all are in agreement, Trellus follows Gilan into the Grass.

Anuk  d20+12=24
Thursday October 9th, 2003 11:37:41 AM

Anuk watches the two figures disappear into the grass and then turns his attention to the pack.

"Mmmm...a little rest and food does sound shady, Flea. Can I do anything to help?" He grins at the gnome, hoping she'll say yes. Even though he's only known her a few days, he feels as though she's been a lifelong friend.(Survival=24 if Flea needs any help with additional foraging or cooking)

He takes stock of his equipment and belongings. Everything still seems intact following the fight and their stay in Black's cave the night before. Then, he remembers the ioun stone tucked away in his cloak. He brings it out.

"I think we ought to rest up here for the night and prepare to move out tomorrow morning. In the meantime, I've still got room for three more spells in the stone if anyone's interested in storing 'em."

(The stone currently holds Pass without Trace, Sheild of Faith, and Remove Fear)

Grymash
Thursday October 9th, 2003 9:44:33 PM

Grymash pushes around the grass around the water bubble with his foot. He finally spots the dagger he tossed at Sterlin's feet. Grymash slowly bends over and picks it up. After wiping the blade clean, he stares into the shiny blade. Gry can only see half of his face at a time in the blades reflective surface. One side heavily scarred with a grey dead eye (from his fall), the other with a perfect living one. Why is it he can still has sight out of both? One thing is certain, its like two different people looking back at him.

Grymash rejoins the group and helps in whatever he can to move the pack to a safer location. Along the way, Gry finally speaks, "Sterlin not leave because of Gry did he? Did Gry say bright words to Sterlin. Gry no control what me say when we get mad in battle! No remember what me say!"

Gilan [AC: 18*19 dodge*] (barkskin+2)(-2 for 7 rounds)  d20+7=10 d20+5=22 d20+13=18
Thursday October 9th, 2003 10:18:18 PM

Glancing to the others he nods his head at a few of the questions. "I believe that I can porduce us a few mats to sleep on that will keep the bugs away." He pulls out a large bundle of leaves that he had collected earlier and smiles. "I gathered these earlier and can make a bug repellent out of it...it won't smell too good but it will help."

Glancing to Anuk he smiles and then makes his way over to him. "I have one entangle spell...the one that so impressed Trellus that I can put into your stone, I can also provide a healing spell of low level if you want it as well" Motioning Jake over he adds. "I have an extra of that healing spell if you want it and we are to stay here the night...I will have new in the morning."

[weave the mats: 10, make a repellent: 22, forage for food: 18]

DM Kevin
Thursday October 9th, 2003 10:41:27 PM

Everyone takes precautions so that they can sleep somewhat comfortably.

Let me know how many watches and who will be on each watch.

Grymash
Friday October 10th, 2003 12:08:51 AM

"Ohh ... Trellus, Gry got spell to put in rock. It make Trellus run quickie fast!"

(You can have Expeditious Retreat if you want it.)

Jake
Friday October 10th, 2003 12:52:25 AM

"Sure, Gil," Jake says. "Ah'm gonna prepare some of that food, then." Jake sets down to make another hearty (and extremely spicy) meal, involving grubs and various roots with spices.

[Think we should do 6 watches, each two hours long: each person on two watches. Spellcasters should do first two and/or last two watches (or first and last). That way, everyone sleeps 8 hours. I volunteer Jake to be 3rd and 4th watch.]

Anuk
Friday October 10th, 2003 10:33:57 AM

Anuk passes the purple stone to Gilan and then Gry and watches as they cast their spells into the stone. (Adding Entangle and Expeditious Retreat to the list of spells in the stone.) Retrieving it from Gry, he says to the pack in general, "Still room for one more spell if anyone wants to."

As the afternoon wanes, Anuk helps with the tasks of preparing camp wherever he can. "I'll take the third watch tonight. I'm a pretty light sleeper anyway."

Trellus
Friday October 10th, 2003 1:32:03 PM

The blond man claps his half-orc friend on the shoulder.
"Its shady, Gry. Sterlin is weaving his own thread. It had nothing to do with the fight or your words. Oh, and Anuk's got the stone, not me."

Trellus casts Cure Light Wounds into Anuk's stone.

"Gry, how's our water?" he asks again.

The cleric proposes the following watches - Gilan and Trellus, Jake and Flea, Anuk and Grymash.

Gilan [AC: 18*19 dodge*] (barkskin+2)(-2 for 6 rounds)  d8+4=8 d8+4=12
Friday October 10th, 2003 4:11:31 PM

Gilan takes the stone and puts his entangle spell into it with more ease then he would have expected. He glances around at the rest and then makes his way over to Gry. "Don't let it bother you big guy...Sterlin needs to spend time with the Walker is all...it is his dream after all and not your fault." With a glance to Trellus he nods to his idea of watch, but Jake's idea was slightly better with only two hour watches. "Maybe we should go with Jake's idea...two hour watches would be better with how tired we are...or at least I am."

With a last glance to the rest as he makes his way to the side to work on the repellant. "Sign me up for a early watch...I don't see well in the dark." With a though he will cast his last two healing spells on Jake if he needs them or on someone else (8hp, 12hp), if someone asks.

Spells
------
0th(5): detect magic, guidance-2*both used*, light, mending
1st(4): cure light wounds-2*both used*, entangle*used*, shillelagh
2nd(3): barkskin-2*used both*, flaming sphere

Flea  d20+23=40 d20+10=14
Friday October 10th, 2003 5:30:43 PM

Flea helps Jake as he prepares the meal for the pack. She pitches in and does whatever he asks her to do. She enjoys the quiet time alone with her thoughts as she cleans up the dishes after the meal. She will accept the watches, and will take the 3rd and 4th shifts with Jake to allow those who need more sleep to get it.

Flea hunkers down at the edge of the encampment(Hide=40) scanning the plains for anyone or anything that might be out there. (Search=14) Her shortbow rests on her knees, and her quiver is within reach.

Grymash  d20+9=11
Saturday October 11th, 2003 1:03:34 AM

"Ohh piggie dumps ... Gry forgot! Me check water."

Grymash goes over to the boat and pulls it down and checks the water levels. (do we have kegs or skins or something?) If the water levels look low he will cast Create Water and fill them up as much as he can. (Gry prepared Create Water twice.)

On the way back from the boat Grymash will check for any taste morsels crawling about (Survival Check 11). Gry grunts in disgust when he finds nothing.

DM Kevin
Sunday October 12th, 2003 4:33:18 PM

There are no unusual events during the night. Everyone gets more rested than they have in a long time. It is a new day and the beginning of a long journey. The walker said it would be a week by foot to reach the next destination.

Trellus
Monday October 13th, 2003 11:27:29 AM

The next morning, Trellus looks at the remaining group.
And then there were 6, he thinks, with a touch of melancholy.

After his morning devotion, he is ready to go.

"I've got a spell to ward off the heat. Just got one though, so I'll save it in case one of us gets in trouble."
He waves grandly to Gilan.
"OK, dude. Which way?"

Trellus' spells -
0 -- Create Water, Detect Magic, Detect Poison, Guidance, Light
1- Bless, Endure Elements, Remove Fear, Shield of Faith
2- Hold Person, Sound Burst, Spiritual Weapon

Domain Spells - Enlarge Person, Bulls Strength

Jake
Monday October 13th, 2003 12:55:09 PM

The tough old boy is pretty quiet that night, during his shift or after the meal. In the morning, he quietly makes a meager meal of not spicy food, since you never eat spicy food for breakfast in Rattledam. without the spice, his food is pretty bland and tasteless.
As everyone wakes up for the morning journey, he prepares himself, buckling on his armor, sharpening his sword, and practicing a few exercises to get the blood flowing.
That done, he looks to the others, prepared to follow them wherever they wish. Seven days of walking... He's glad he doesn't carry as much. He puts on his wide-brimmed rapke-hide hat. For a few seconds, imagining stories he's heard, the half-elf wishes they had those mythical horses that people use across the world, wich are ten feet tall and could carry a man faster than the wind.. Then they'd get there in a heartbeat.

Gilan
Monday October 13th, 2003 6:08:52 PM

Gilan wakes in the morning feeling well rested but somewhat ill at ease. He was now the new holder of the orb and that brought responsibility to him that he did not want. Still he was determined to rise to the occassion and lead his pack straight and true.

Without a though he slips into his morning ritual of praying to the very powers' of the Wold itself for his spells. His communion is accompanied by the ligth humming of wasps.

With his prayers done he slips back to the rest and smiles to them, letting out the heart touch that has become a morning ritual for some. With a little digging he eats a piece of dried piggie meat and washes it down with some water.

With a glance to the others he shakes his head and takes out the orb. Slowly turning he lets his now bare hands judge the orbs coolness for their direction. He points in the direction that the orb indicates and then slips it into a pouch for awhile. "Seems we are to go this way...I will check every fifteen minutes to see if we still travel staright...if that is ok." With another smiles he holds up a bag that he had distilled some repellent into. "I have some repellent for some of us...I am not sure how much I was able to make." He will give to those that need it most, Flea as a scout I would guess, and those that would be affected most.

[DM - How much repellent was I able to make anyways.]

[Spell List to Soon be Added]

DM Kevin
Monday October 13th, 2003 8:54:09 PM

The magic compass leads to the west. You all know it gets more wild as you travel to the west. A weeks worth of travel will no doubt take you into a part of the plains rarely seen by city-born men.

I need to know how much water everyone has.
The food and water issue hasn't been pressed to hard yet, but it is time to test your ability to survive in the plains. It will be hot and rough country. You may forage for food and water, but you must remember that the roots of a certain type of grass are safe one day or one hour and poisonous the next. It takes great skill to know when and what to forage. Most of the bugs you will find will be blood-bugs and I guess you can eat them, but there are few who enjoy biting into a giant tick.

Flea  d20+10=28 d20+8=12 d20+11=18
Monday October 13th, 2003 11:24:24 PM

Flea rakes her fingers through her dry, sun bleached hair before pulling it into a short tail she fastens with her remaining pale blue silk ribbon. She checks her relection in a small steel mirror, and sighs at the new crop of freckles undeneath her wind and sun burned cheeks.

As the group packs up, Flea follows suit, taking note of her remaining trail rations and waterskin. She then volunteers to scout ahead of the pack in the direction indicated by the orb. She will keep her eyes open (Search=28) and listen intently (Listen=12), reporting back to the pack if she sees or hears anything out of the ordinary. The rogue moves as quietly as the plains permit (Move Silently=18)

Trail rations=2 days
Waterskin=1 (full)

Anuk  d20+9=22 d20+6=12 d20+10=17
Monday October 13th, 2003 11:29:41 PM

Feeling rested, Anuk gets his gear ready then spends some time in meditation until he feels able to cast another spell today. (Prepares Entangle)

Helping clean up the camp site, Anuk says, "Hey, Flea? You want to trade off taking point?" With a wink at Grymash he addresses Flea again. "After all, we need to make sure someone stays with Gry at all times...don't want any more rope climbing accidents!" Grinning, he ducks quickly to avoid whatever method he suspects Gry might use to repay him for the joke.

He takes a position up near the front of the Pack and heads in the direction Gilan indicates. As the heat presses down on the pack, he concentrates on their surroundings and hopes to spot something the pack might be able to eat or drink.

(Spot=22, Listen=12, Knowledge Plains=17)

(Anuk carries two waterskins in his pack.)

Trellus
Tuesday October 14th, 2003 9:51:18 AM

Trellus pulls a waterskin off the skiff to drink as he walks.

Walking behind Gilan, he takes note of everyone's condition through the day, encouraging frequent stops to refill from the casks on the skiff.

(OOC - I thought everyone's waterskins exploded in the lightning storm (back when we rescued Verstati and met the Walker). The water on the skiff was still safe. It contained 3 barrels full of water and 6 full waterskins. I've no idea how much a barrel of water holds.)

Anuk
Tuesday October 14th, 2003 10:01:52 AM

(OOC: I thought we were able to repair the broken skins and refill them during the stay in Black's cave. If that is incorrect, then Anuk does not have any waterskins.)

Gilan  d20+6=10 d20+6=13 d20+13=21
Tuesday October 14th, 2003 2:29:54 PM

Gilan moves along with the rest of the group, taking time every ten minutes to test the orb and keep them in the right direction. He watches the others for signs of weakening in the hot sun (spot 13) as well as listening for trouble (listen 10). He also keeps a look-out for place to gather water and possible grass foodstuffs (survival 21).

He is also keen on the idea of stopping for short breaks so that noone gets too weak from the sun. "I have two endure elements spells as well if anyone needs them." His offer is made with genuine concern for his packmates.

[I was also under the impression that we repaired our waterskins at Black's place. If not then I am also running around with no water skins.]

rations: 4days
waterskins: 2

SPELLS
0th: create water, guidance, mending-3
1st: cure light wounds-2, endure elements, entangle
2nd: barkskin-2, flaming sphere

[DM - Question about changing the 3 mendings then to something else. That was a just in case of the other waterskins being busted, could repair them. Would not have prepared those spells otherwise.]

DM Kevin
Tuesday October 14th, 2003 8:01:03 PM

You begin your travel west. For most of the day there is nothing interesting to report. It approaches dusk when you notice a skiff similar to your own to the north.

(I believe we were able to repair them, so assume your waterskins are repaired.)

Flea  d20+23=41 d20+11=13 d20+10=22 d20+8=24
Tuesday October 14th, 2003 8:25:37 PM

The rogue volunteers to scout ahead and learn what she can of the skiff and it's occupants. She virtually disapears (Hide=41)into the shadows of the tall grasses, moving the rustling husks aside as gently as possible.(Move Silently) Upon approaching the skiff she tries to learn as much as possible (Search=22, Listen=24) before reporting back to her pack.

Grymash
Tuesday October 14th, 2003 11:36:45 PM

After walking for half a day, Grymash suddenly begins to laugh. "HAHA HAA HAA HAAA HAHAHAHA ... Gry get it. Funny joke Anuk!! hee hee hee!"

He halts when the other boat is spotted. His double axe remains straped to his back. Gry holds his mighty composite bow. He pulls a masterful-looking arrow from his quiver. Whispering to everyone, "What pack do now?"

Jake
Wednesday October 15th, 2003 12:20:40 AM

"Wait for tha lil un to come back, Gry." Jake pats the half-orc on the back.
(Jake has 4 waterskins, I assume by now he's drank one of them.)

Trellus  d20+8=10 d20+8=23
Wednesday October 15th, 2003 8:14:26 AM

"Keep walking, dudes. But slowly, and stay shuttlecocked," Trellus tells everyone as Flea scouts ahead.

"If we saw their boat, they saw ours."

The cleric leads everyone in the direction of the other skiff at a reduced pace (to give Flea some time to scout it out).

His eyes and ears are open.
"They'll likely be scouting us, too."

Spot - 10
Listen - 23

(Trellus has four waterskins. He's carrying one and has the other 3 on the skiff.)

Anuk  d20+9=24 d20+6=13
Wednesday October 15th, 2003 11:46:12 AM

Anuk keeps near the front of the pack as they slowly approach the boat ahead. "Hope Flea's okay out there," he mutters.

He anxiously keeps a lookout for her or anything else that might be coming their way.

(Spot=24, Listen=13)

Gilan
Wednesday October 15th, 2003 4:35:30 PM

Gilan looks to the skiff in the distance and then to Flea. He is happy that she is willing to check out the situation but he does not have to be happy about it. "You just be careful out there Flea." As she starts to move out he sends a heart touch to her as a please be careful touch.

Glancing to the others he checks the orb once again and shakes his head. "Seems we need to go that direction." He will take a middle position in the grouping as they move out.

rations: 4days
waterskins: 2

SPELLS
0th: create water, guidance, mending-3
1st: cure light wounds-2, endure elements, entangle
2nd: barkskin-2, flaming sphere

Flea  d20+11=21 d20+23=37 d20+8=11 d20+10=27
Wednesday October 15th, 2003 11:28:39 PM

Flea creeps soundlessly ever closer to the skiff (Move Silently=21), remaining hidden all the while (Hide=37). In her excitement all she can hear is the rush of blood in her ears (Listen=11, but her eyes remain sharpe and take in the details of the skiff and it's occupants as well as the surrounding area.

She returns a heart tickle to her pack letting them know that she is okay.

DM Kevin
Thursday October 16th, 2003 9:19:39 PM

The other skiff aproaches very slowly. Two men can be seen standing and watching.

Flea notices one man drop from the back of the skiff.

Gilan
Friday October 17th, 2003 12:57:03 AM

Gilan slowly paces the others as they make their way slowly towards the skiff. He is careful to make as little sound as possible though he knows that he is nowhere as gifted as Flea.

He loosens his weapon in it's sheath and makes sure that he shield is ready to be pulled into position.

Trellus
Friday October 17th, 2003 2:52:10 PM

"OK dudes, keep the warp down," Trellus advises quietly as he continues to approach the skiff.

"Anuk, can you climb up on the boat? Somebody up higher might be shady," he suggests.

When they get within hailing distance, and if nothing else has happened, Trellus calls out "Hail to the skiff! May we approach?"

Flea  d20+23=29 d20+11=27
Friday October 17th, 2003 5:14:02 PM

Flea gestures to the pack as they approach the skiff. She points out the two figures, one in the skiff, and the other in the boat's shadow. She then holds up an index finger to her lips as she crouches down in the grass.(Hide=29, Move Silently=27)

The rogue will let someone else do the talking. If the strangers are unfriendly, it would be good to have the element of surprise she thinks to herself as she silently draws her shortsword.

Gilan
Friday October 17th, 2003 8:18:24 PM

Gilan glances to the rest as he continues to move forward with the rest. He looks to Trellus and then to the others. "I could try and hide myself...or go on ahead with you Trellus." He would rather continue on as and let those better at hiding do so.

SPELLS
0th: create water, guidance, mending-3
1st: cure light wounds-2, endure elements, entangle
2nd: barkskin-2, flaming sphere

Jake
Saturday October 18th, 2003 2:59:26 AM

Jake hangs by Trellus and keeps his arms at ease. It would be easy to draw his sword in a heartbeat. He nudges Trellus and whispers, "Good idea with that...never know when there might be water thieves."

Anuk  d20+9=16 d20+6=13
Saturday October 18th, 2003 8:38:46 PM

"I'm on it, Trellus." Anuk scrambles up to the skiff (climb - take 10) and lies low as he peers across the grasses to get a better look at the other raft.

(spot=16, listen 13)

DM Kevin
Sunday October 19th, 2003 4:25:46 PM

You finally approach within 30' of the skiff. There are two humans on board. They look like men used to living in the wilderness. One of them waves when you hail and speaks, " A bit closer is o.k., but not too close. The plains can be dangerous and I'll ask that you forgive my suspician of all strangers this far west. What brings you here, travelers? "

Grymash
Monday October 20th, 2003 12:22:26 AM

Grymash removes the arrow from his bow and slowly puts it back in his quiver. He looks to the others to see if they are going to say anything. Gry walks closer to his pack and stands like a guardian in front of the others. He turns his head slightly to give the others in his pack a quick look and a grunt. His right hand hangs close to his double axe that hangs off his back.

Trellus
Monday October 20th, 2003 10:49:28 AM

Trellus stops as directed, and raises his right hand.

"Many shadows," he replies. "Your caution is understandable"
He grins.
"You're the first dudes we've met out here that haven't tried to kill us outright."

The cleric leaves unspoken the obvious conclusion that those people did not succeed.

"We're on a quest, seeking knowledge of the Plains. I pledge by Domi, we mean no harm. Perhaps we can share information? What lies to the west?"

Jake
Monday October 20th, 2003 2:32:42 PM

Jake doesn't trust these guys probably about as much as they don't trust him. He lets Trellus weave his words, figuring he'll do better if he just stands ready for a fight.
Then he wonders if any of them are girls...probably not, he says to himself, but if there are, I have to look good. He adjusts his cloak and brushes his face. Maybe I should have shaved...

Gilan  d20+6=8 d20+6=12 d20+4=14
Monday October 20th, 2003 2:47:45 PM

Gilan lets Trellus speak as he lets his eyes search the surorunding area (listen: 8, search: 12, spot: 14) for more trouble. With a couple of quick buzzes and flick of his fingers he sends his two wasps off to scout. He knows that they will bring back a report about any extra people around that are not of the pack.

SPELLS
0th: create water, guidance, mending-3
1st: cure light wounds-2, endure elements, entangle
2nd: barkskin-2, flaming sphere

Flea  d20+23=28 d20+10=25
Monday October 20th, 2003 6:03:29 PM

The gnome rogue remains hidden (Hide=28) and takes in as much detail as she can of the strangers and their boat (Search=25).

Anuk
Monday October 20th, 2003 6:15:49 PM

Anuk remains perched atop the skiff, watching the proceedings below. His bow and an arrow lie next to him within easy reach should the situation change.

DM Kevin
Monday October 20th, 2003 9:06:37 PM

The same man answers Trellus, " What lies west? Death. Death is all that lies in the west. I'd head for tamer lands if I were you. "

Flea still sees a figure hanging by his/her hands from the back of the other skiff.

Anuk make a spot check.

Tiev and Zilia  d20+9=22 d20+9=16
Monday October 20th, 2003 10:47:40 PM

Two wasps fly reconnaissance over the plains, examining the location of anyone or anything that might be of interest. They will report their findings to their druid friend, Gilan, in hopes that he might find their information useful.

Tiev (Spot=22)
Zilia (Spot=16)

Anuk  d20+9=20
Monday October 20th, 2003 11:17:18 PM

As Trellus and the stranger talk, Anuk casts a wary eye on the pack's surroundings. Gargul knows I've not spent any time out here, but,...light...something here feels...off.

(Spot=20)

Grymash  d20+4=5 d20+4=7
Tuesday October 21st, 2003 3:23:17 AM

Their answer perplexes Grymash. "Wha!? Land to west called Death? Oh yeah ... sun dies and falls from sky in west. That what you mean?"

(Spot 5, natural 1, Listen 7)

Grymash sees and hears nothing. The strangers words leaves Gry dazed and confused.

Flea  d20+11=19 d20+6=10 d20+23=26
Tuesday October 21st, 2003 7:46:04 AM

Sneaking over (Move Silently=19) towards the fellow hanging from the skiff, Flea tries to get a better look. (Spot=10). The tall grasses in which she hides herself (Hide=26) partially obstruct her view.

Trellus
Tuesday October 21st, 2003 9:00:07 AM

Well, thats helpful, Trellus thinks sourly to himself.

"Our quest leads us west, so west we must go," the cleric responds.

"Its not all that tame eastward. We've seen rapke and bounders and raiders."

"What is the problem with the west?"

Jake
Tuesday October 21st, 2003 2:14:37 PM

"Ah ain't hearda nothin' that could beat the Bloodpack, West or East or nowhere." He spits to the side to add emphasis. (Valuable waste of water; very important symbolically!)

Gilan  d20+6=16 d20+6=20 d20+4=18
Tuesday October 21st, 2003 3:30:25 PM

Gilan glances around starting to feel a little strange as they stand there (listen: 20, search: 16, spot: 18). He watches the going on with some interest as he slips his hand into the pouch with the orb to see how it feels.

With a glance to the rest he shakes his shoulders lightly to loosen them, to much tension.

DM Kevin
Tuesday October 21st, 2003 9:07:20 PM

The wasps do indeed see something, but how they would communicate that, I do not know.

Anuk, Gilan, and Flea realize a female human is hanging from the back of the other skiff.

Flea can tell that she is dressed in black leather and looks very agile.

The man speaks again, " Well, there's a lot of the baron's men gathered up out west. More raiders here and there as well. Ain't nothing good about it. I hear there lies a wyrm graveyard way out west, but I haven't strayed that far myself. Anyway, we best be getting on our way, so I'll be letting you get on yours as well. "

Trellus
Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 11:38:41 AM

"Truly," Trellus agrees with the man, "Walk in the shade, friend."

The blond man turns back in their previous direction.
"Let's weave, but keep shuttlecocked," he warns the rest in a low voice.

Trellus starts walking on.

Jake
Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 1:47:55 PM

"Well, it was nice meetin' y'all. Never did catch yer names, tho. We're the Blood pack.
"If we meet again, we'll have ta have dinner together or share water." He tips his hat to them.

Grymash  d20+2=19 d20+2=12 d20+5=20
Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 3:35:03 PM

Even with all the pleasantness of their conversation, Grymash still doesn't trust these strangers. Not everyone is letting themselves be known. So Gry stares hard at the man's expressions; carefully following his eyes, the heaviness of his breath, the rigidness of his body. "Stranger hide somethin' from Gry eyes!" the half-orc thinks.

(Sense Motive 19, Spot 12, Listen 20)

Gry, very carefully, puts his right hand behind his back and takes hold of his double axe that hangs off his shoulder, but he doesnt remove it from its hook.

Gilan
Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 3:52:57 PM

Gilan watches the excited movements of the two wasps and understands that something is wrong. He now wishes that he had taken a speak with animals spells to help out. He looks to Trellus and whispers lightly to him and the rest if they can hear. "My little ones are aggitated...something is wrong here. Not good I would say."

He will move slowly with the others, but keeps his wits about him as he does.

Anuk
Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 5:01:23 PM

Anuk gathers his bow and arrow then descends from the raft. He utters a quick hiss to make sure Twinge is nearby and sees the snake slither through the nearby grass. Satisfied, he gives a friendly waves to the stranger and moves out with the pack.

As the pack leaves hearing range of the others Anuk says, "Anyone else see that girl hiding off the back of their skiff? Just hanging there for some reason. Seems a little strange to me...why would they want to keep her out of sight like that?"

Jake
Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 5:41:39 PM

"A girl?" Jake lights up. "Ah didn't see her. Ah'll go check, though..."
And with that, starts heading back towards the other skiff.

DM Kevin
Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 8:52:15 PM

The other skiff begins heading south. After a bit of distance gets between you, anyone still paying attention sees the girl climb back into the skiff.

Flea  d20+23=41 d20+8=22
Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 8:54:21 PM

Rather than follow the group, the rogue creeps a little closer to the skiff from which hangs a female figure. As Jake passes her by, she signals him with a gesture, but Flea remains hidden (Hide=41) from all others. She keeps here ears trained on what Jake and the woman might say. (Listen=22) But before the fighter gets any closer, the boat turns away.

Tiev and Zilia  d20+7=25
Wednesday October 22nd, 2003 9:01:14 PM

Tiev and Zilia circle the druid performing an odd little dance. The larger, male wasp darts off at a tangent several times. He speeds away, always in the same direction before returning to Gilan and repeating the dance. The smaller wasp buzzes excitedly.

Intuit Direction=25

Trellus
Thursday October 23rd, 2003 11:55:53 AM

Trellus is caught off guard by Jake's sudden 180.
"Jake, wait......light." He grinds his teeth in frustration.

"OK dudes," he cautions the rest. "Let's everybody warp down. We've got Flea hiding too, remember. Its the right pick out here, so no surprise they wove it too."

Trellus watches his hormonally charged friend go back to check out the girl with some bemusement.

This is really not the right time, he grouses to himself.

Gilan  d20+6=15 d20+6=24 d20+6=22
Thursday October 23rd, 2003 2:41:53 PM

He watches his wasps for a few and then nods as he thinks he understands. With a look to the group he puts out his hand to lay it on Trellus's shoulder. "My wasps have found something interesting...we may want to check it out." With that he lets the rest of the group know, then follows his wasps to see what they found.

He had spotted the girl climb back up on the skiff, but dismisses it for a later thought. Taking his time as he moves in the direction that Tiev is showing him (listen: 15, search: 24, spot: 22).

Anuk
Thursday October 23rd, 2003 3:12:04 PM

Side trek, eh? Anuk thinks to himself. Well, where here to protect the land. Guess that includes those who travel on it, too.

He repositions his bow and an arrow in his quiver so they will be easy to reach should the need arise.

"Trellus, if you want to go after Jake I'll weave my thread with Gilan here and help him look into whatever the wasps have found. If it looks like there's trouble, we'll let you know what we find."

He turns to the druid he says, "Lead the way, Gilan my friend." then follows him through the grass.

Grymash  d20+9=23
Thursday October 23rd, 2003 4:47:27 PM

Grymash gathers his things and turns to the group. "Gry don't know ... me not trust strangers. They be baron scout as far as Gry know. Piggie Dumps in the Sun! Barons could know where pack is now, and know where pack goin'!! Pack need to stay hid like Flea."

(Kev, did my skill checks from the last round notice anything. Did Gry precieve them them not being completely honest)

From his beltpouch, Grymash finds his battle paint. He takes the green and black colors and paints vertical stripes down his face. Gry also invokes the glamouring powers of his armour and makes himself appear to be wearing stealthy hunting gear with the same vertical green/black striped camo. (Survival 23)

"Here ... take Gry battle paint. Who ever need it." Grymash barks, "Gilan, no get too far ahead. You leave no tracks to follow and Gry snout can only smell you so far!" Grymash sniffs the air and turns his head back to the pack and chuckles.

Gry follows Gilan's wasps as well, as long as the entire party stays together.

Jake
Thursday October 23rd, 2003 5:06:06 PM

Jake catches sight of the girl floating away and stops, sighing. "Ah well...maybe next time." He checks out her legs, tho. (What's her charisma?)
He walks on back to the rest of the group and wonders what the big deal is. "Hey, what's weavin'? We continuin'?"

DM Kevin
Thursday October 23rd, 2003 7:33:38 PM

Gry you noticed they were hiding something, but it also felt as though they were a bit untrusting of you as well.

(out of character, the only thing the wasps noticed was the girl hanging from the skiff. I had no way of telling you this in character though.)

The other skiff continues moving away from you as you all decide what to do. It is still a good six days until you reach your destination.

Flea
Thursday October 23rd, 2003 7:49:40 PM

The pack can see a rustle in the grasses as Flea makes her way to where they are grouped. Standing in front of the barbarian, she asks, "Hey! Mountainback! Can you paint my face just like yours?" She digs out the small steel mirror, and holds it out to Gry so he can see his reflection. The mirror shakes a little as Flea giggles, but she holds her face up for the half-orc and closes her eyes.

While Gry paints her face, she asks, "Trellus, dude, do we follow the orb or the girl in the skiff?"

Trellus
Friday October 24th, 2003 9:25:14 AM

Trellus waits with a half-grin while everyone comes back.

"Warp down, Gry," he answers soothingly to the big half-orc. "They're likely just being cautious, like us. Even if they are scouts, how are they gonna tell anybody about us?"

In answer to Flea, he looks over at Jake, Anuk, and Gilan.
"If we're all done chasing girls," he drawls jestingly, "I think we should keep following the orb."

Anuk
Friday October 24th, 2003 1:58:28 PM

"Are we ever done chasing girls?" Anuk replies with a grin on his face.

He watches Flea getting her face painted by Gry's immense yet impressively dextrous hands. Still smiling, he says, "Looks good, Flea...I think I shall call you 'Mini-Gry'."

"Well, I think Trellus is right...that group back there doesn't want trouble and we don't want to cause any. Which way does the orb say, Gilan?"

Gilan
Friday October 24th, 2003 3:30:45 PM

Gilan looks to the little wasps and buzzes to them a couple of time. It is a buzz of pleasure and apporval of what they did. Looking back to the rest he laughs lightly. "Seems my little scouts saw the girl and that is what they were on about." He looks to Gry as he starts to paint up Flea and laughs again.

With a glance to Anuk he shakes his head. "You are right." He pulls out the orb and slowly turns to get a bearing from it. With another slow turn he shakes his head and points in the direction that it indicates. "The orb says this way." Looking to Gry again he smiles. "I will try to not stray too far ahead...or I could find some of that stink grass." He smiles lightly as he remembers the time that Gry had used some to wipe himself clean.

Jake
Friday October 24th, 2003 4:32:57 PM

"Uhh...ah'd be careful 'bout usin' that to paintcher face, Flea. Y'all realize there ain't no way ta clean it off, we're not goin' ta use up valuable water ta do that. And, um, Gry, no offense buddy, but that stuff ain't exactly tha most washable stuff, if ah remember when you was young. You had it on for what, three weeks? Couldn't scrub it off at all."
He chuckles. "Well, ain't every day ya see a new pretty girl. Ah know all tha ones at Rattledam, y'see."

Grymash
Saturday October 25th, 2003 2:58:26 PM

"Gry learn to scrub paint off with dirt and sand. There lots of dat. Flea an Gry made in shade. But Gry be serious now, if me only learn one thing from orc raiders (character history: Grymash was abducted and enslaved by Orc Raiders a few years back.)Gry learn that we need ta stay hid. Orcs only let you see them when orcs want ta be seen. An pack no need to tell strangers where pack go. This brutial land an take brutial people to live here. Pack need to be more Plains-wise. Gry think pack may be stalked as Gry talk now!"

Flea  d20+23=36 d20+11=27 d20+10=27
Sunday October 26th, 2003 10:56:38 PM

Flea checks out her painted face in the little mirror, then smiles up at the big half-orc. Her light blue eyes and white teeth striking in a face striped with black and green.

When Grymash suggests that someone or something might be trailing the pack, Flea vanishes (Hide=36) into the grasses and quietly (Move Silently=27) circles around the area looking for anything that might confirm the half-orc's suspicions.(Search=27) Returning to the pack she reports what she finds, and prepares to head out in the direction indicated by Gilan and the wooden orb.

Gilan
Monday October 27th, 2003 10:28:20 PM

Gilan leads the others along, hopefully with someone by his side. He keeps up with the orb to check and see if it says to change direction.

He continues to keep his eyes open for anything out of the ordinary. He lets the others deal with the stuff that they are best at while he concentrates on getting them to their next destination.

DM Kevin
Tuesday October 28th, 2003 11:19:27 AM

No one notices being followed. It seems the other skiff may have been just passing through.
You all discuss concerns about traveling in the plains as you follow the dirsction of the strange compass. It leads you head on into the west. You've traveled for days with no encounters. That in itself seems strange. Five days into the west and all seems very quiet. The only movement is an occasional breeze through the tall grass. Ahead of you is an open area where the grass does not grow. It is a perfect circle about 20' in diameter. It is a very hot day, as they all have been, and darkness is only a few hours away.

Grymash  d20+4=12 d20+7=23 d20+9=13 d20+3=17
Tuesday October 28th, 2003 2:40:12 PM

Grymash looks at the round clear area with caution. "Da orcs have saying ... Stay in grass, save your behind! In Orc talk, that rhyme."

Gry remains knelt within the tall grass, at the edge of the grassline. He surveys the area. (Spot 12, Listen 23, Survival 13, Hide 17 add a modifier for being camo'ed)

Gilan  d20+1=12 d20+10=23 d20+10=17 d20+6=22 d20+6=13 d20+13=24
Tuesday October 28th, 2003 3:04:45 PM

Gilan stops as they reach a clearing in the grass. He looks it over with care and interest (spot 22). With a moments thought he is listening to all the sounds in the area trying to pick out anything that maybe out of the ordinary (listen 13). "I have never heard of clearings like these being made naturally...I don't think. (knowledge, nature 23)".

Kneeling by the edge of the clearing he scans over it before he looses the light (survival 24). He looks for tracks or anything that would give him a clue about the area. Is it a natural event or man made?

Trellus  d20+7=20
Tuesday October 28th, 2003 4:13:29 PM

Trellus nods at Grymash's words.
"Truly," he agrees. "Let's stay out of that."

The cleric tries to recall if the Walker, Black, mentioned anything about this kind of thing.

Flea  d20+8=28 d20+10=25
Tuesday October 28th, 2003 7:00:28 PM

The gnome yawns, then rubs behind her ears. Suddenly she remembers something from the pack's earlier experiences. "Um, maybe this is one of the safe clearings?" she says to the assembled group, "like when there was an electrical storm?" The rogue listens for the tell-tale crackle and pop or any other noise on the all too quiet land. (Listen=28, nat. 20!)

Flea then advances very cautionsly checking for any traps. (Search=25*)

Anuk  d20+10=20 d20+9=15 d20+6=23
Tuesday October 28th, 2003 9:21:32 PM

Anuk looks at the clearing without entering, trying to recall anything that might lead to some understanding of what they're seeing.

(knowledge (plains)=20)

"Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm hungry. If we can determine that this place is safe, I think we should set up camp somewhere 'round here." That said, he begins looking and listening around the area for anything that appears threatening.

(spot=15, listen=23)

Jake
Wednesday October 29th, 2003 12:22:07 AM

During the journey, Jake does his best. His culinary skills do not approve, and most of his meals continue to taste like either gruel or are way too incredibly spicy. He generally keeps watch well and says very little.

As they stop at the clearing, he checks on their water supply and the skiff to make sure everything's okay. Then he draws his sword and shield. If this is the next event, it'll be good to have things ready.

DM Kevin
Wednesday October 29th, 2003 9:21:28 AM

None of you can recall anything about a clearing like this one. There are no signs of a coming storm or traps. No one else is spotted in the area. It is strangely silent. It is impossible to tell why the area would be clear of grass the way it is.

Trellus
Wednesday October 29th, 2003 2:08:32 PM

Hearing Anuk and looking to the sky, Trellus does notice its getting about time to bed down.

Still, every time they've found something different in the Grass, its been very dangerous.

"How 'bout we keep going another 100 yards or so before bedding down?" he asks. "That way we're close enough to explore, and far enough to get a good running start." The last part is said with a slight grin.

Gilan
Wednesday October 29th, 2003 3:55:16 PM

Gilan shrugs as he looks over the area. He can remember nothing in any of the lessons about anything like this. He also finds nothing that would give him a clue. "How about we skirt around this area...I don't relish the idea of going straight across." Glancing back to the clearing he gets the idea that something is not right...but it may not even be the clearing.

With another thought he looks to the others. "Do you think maybe this has something to do with the next event that we are to see?" He slips his hand into his pouch and pulls out the orb to see what it will tell him. Maybe he can determine how close they are and if this is it.

Grymash  d20+9=25 d20+2=10 d20+7=22
Wednesday October 29th, 2003 5:20:34 PM

Grymash looks at the bare soil of the circle. "Is it loose or packed firm," Grymash thinks? (Survival check 25)"Circle maybe trap ... or nest ... or both!"

Grymash may not be smart, but he is plains-wise. He understands that the majority of life in the plains are vermin and they seek shelter by burrowing into the earth. Most burrow for escape from the hot sun and protection from other predators. Others, however, burrow to hide and wait for unsuspecting creatures to come along. This could be one of those times.

Grymash cuts a tall stalk of grass at its base and holds it out across the bare ground from the circles edge. Gry stretches the grass as far out as it will go and begins to "tickle" the ground with its tip.

(If anything from beneath the soil reaches up and tries to grab the grass, Gry will let go.)

(Spot 10, Listen 22)

Flea  d20+10=14
Wednesday October 29th, 2003 8:27:33 PM

Having found no traps, the rogue continues to advance across the circle of bare ground. After another big yawn, she wriggles around under her pack to make it more comfortable. "This looks like a perfect place to make camp, guys. I'm so tired of walking in the tall grass. Can't we stop here?" Flea scans the rather small clearing once more (Search=14), and looks up hopefully at Trellus, Grymash, and the rest of the Bloodpack.

DM Kevin
Wednesday October 29th, 2003 9:53:17 PM

The compass continues leading west. It does not behave any differently around the circle on the ground. Gry notices that the ground is packed tight, but in a typical way. It does not look as if it was intentionaly packed tight. There is no indication of any vermin at all in the ground.

Jake
Thursday October 30th, 2003 1:04:22 PM

"We hadta wait an hour at th'other place, y'know," Jake says. "Very well...ah'll go ahead, an' you guys cover me."
Jake waits a second to see if anyone disagrees with him. If nobody does he walks to the center of the clearing with his sword ready and confident.

Trellus
Thursday October 30th, 2003 3:00:29 PM

Trellus watches Jake with uncertainty.

"Not sure if this is a real shady idea, dude" he says, scanning the area for something bad to happen.

If nothing does happen, the cleric suggests just moving around and setting up camp beyond the circle.

Gilan
Thursday October 30th, 2003 3:49:52 PM

He watches Jake as he moves into the circle and waits to see what happens. He does not like the idea of Jake doing this but knows that sometimes risks are called for.

Looking to the others he will second Trellus's idea of camping on the other side of the clearing.

Anuk
Thursday October 30th, 2003 3:57:42 PM

As always, Anuk is unsure exactly what to expect out here on the plains. As he watches Jake and Flea cross out onto the bare ground, he draws his bow and nocks an arrow, just in case.

"I'm with Trellus...after we finish inspecting this place, let's camp a bit further on. We may not find anything now, but who knows what might show up here after dark? Could be something that just doesn't like the sun."

DM Kevin
Thursday October 30th, 2003 7:32:48 PM

During the time you debate and examine the area, you still find nothing. All around you is completely silent.

If you choose to camp, I need to know where and if there are watches.

Flea
Thursday October 30th, 2003 10:18:18 PM

Looking at the rest of the group in exasperation, from her place in the middle of the barren circle, Flea starts jumping up and down. She then drops her pack, and runs around the perimeter of the circle with her arms outstretched "Look! I'm a Moth!"

Stopping in front of Jake, she says "I'll help you cook up some grub. This is as good a place as any to camp. Besides, starting up a fire in those tall grasses is just asking for trouble."

As has become her habit since Milo's disappearance, the gnome will help Jake as best she can, and will assume full responsibility for scrubbing the pots and dishes using handfuls of plains grasses that she discards afterwards in the fire. She will take whatever watch is assigned after informing the group that she sees quite well in low light, and doesn't need much sleep.

Trellus
Friday October 31st, 2003 10:46:55 AM

The cleric rubs his hand through his short, blond hair, as he watches Flea try to embarrass them into setting up camp in the circle.

He looks at Anuk, Gilan, and Gry.
I don't think so

He points to a spot beyond the circle.
"We're sleeping over there," he tells Flea and Jake flatly, with just a hint of steel in his voice.
"Uncomfortable beats dead."

Trellus leads whoever is coming over to an area 50 yards or so from the circle, and 100 yards if they all come.

"Me and Gry, Flea and Jake, Anuk and Gilan," he suggests as watches.

Jake
Friday October 31st, 2003 2:47:56 PM

Jake chuckles at Flea's act and is tempted to play a trick on her...but he doesn't, knowing that the others are a bit trigger happy at the moment. Instead, he quietly does as Trellus says, setting camp and preparing the mediocre food, experimenting with different flavors and wondering how Milo always got to be so good with food.

Anuk  d20+12=19
Friday October 31st, 2003 8:26:10 PM

Anuk shrugs and smiles apologetically at Flea. "Sorry...I just think it'll be safer."

When the pack locates a suitable campsite, Anuk helps with the foraging for food, looking for whatever tasty--or at least edible--morsels are available. (survival=19)

Gilan
Friday October 31st, 2003 11:21:13 PM

Gilan smiles at Flea's antics and then shakes his head. "It is more a matter of survival Flea...other things may have this area staked out for use." Glancing to Trellus he nods and follows him to a better spot.

He sets up his own grass mat to protect himself from burrowers. Looking to the others he decides to make a suggestion. "I have some spells left over if there is any room in the stone?" It is a minor point as he is sure that they used no spells from it so far. "For anyone that needs something that sees better in the night I can summon up friends?"

When the idea of watch is proposed he listens to the suggestions and then nods. "I can take a later watch...but will need to use one of my spells for myself...I don't see that well in the dark." He gets himself a little of what Jake makes to eat and then leans back to chew on some licorice grass.

[It would be advisable to keep the grass mats that are made and use them over again. Depending on the weaving they should hold up for quite awhile. What say you DM??]

Flea  d20+23=39 d20+10=27 d20+8=13
Saturday November 1st, 2003 11:00:51 AM

Happy to at least be taking a break from the seemingly enless walk across the plains, Flea makes camp with the group. The gnome curls up in a tight ball inside her bedroll, laid on one of the grass mats. Her pack is at her feet and her short sword is at her side within easy reach. She dreams about the big golden door the pack had discovered earlier in their adventures and her fingers twitch in her sleep.

When it is her turn to take up the second watch with Jake, she finds a spot in which to hide (Hide=39) that also provides a good vantage point. She keeps her eyes and ears open for things that go bump in the night. (Search=27, Listen=13).

DM Kevin
Sunday November 2nd, 2003 5:18:36 PM

The night actually goes by without any problems. Only one day of travel left and there have been no real conflicts in the journey. We will see if this holds out for the remaining day.

Grymash
Sunday November 2nd, 2003 6:28:02 PM

Grymash wakes from his sleep as soon as the sun rises.

"Me no like, pack should see others by now. Gry say pack make like uh Druid Tree and get goin' ... uhhhh, tree ... goin'!? Dat not right!"

Grymash looks around with a confused expression on his face. "Wait! where da magic-weaver go? Da wizard, with da spooky voice?"

Trellus
Monday November 3rd, 2003 3:35:33 PM

"The little guy disappeared right after we met the Walker," Trellus answers Gry.

"OK, dudes!" he calls energetically. "Let's go find this event. "

Grymash
Monday November 3rd, 2003 3:59:27 PM

Grymash turns to Trellus. "No, not dat one ... da one last night!" Gry continues to look perplexed. He scratches his head.

Gilan
Monday November 3rd, 2003 4:20:16 PM

Gilan wakes with the dawn and sets in a bit of an open space and watches the morning rise of the sun. Closing his eyes he falls into communion with the Plains themselves. It is with a smiles that he returns to camp and breaks into his water and breakfast.

He looks to Gry with a confused face and then to the others. "What odd voiced wizard was this Gry....anyone else hear anything." He takes another drink of water to wash down his bread and watches the surrounding area.

Once they have figured out the little mystery or just feel like leaving he will fish out the orb to see if it still says to travel in the same direction. Having found the correct direction he will lead them out as best he can.

SPELL LIST *to come*

Anuk
Monday November 3rd, 2003 6:31:01 PM

As Anuk packs his equipment and prepares for the day's trek, he spends some time in contemplation and meditation until he feels he is prepared to cast another spell when and if necessary (prepares entangle.)

Coming out of his reverie, he looks up and watches Twinge gliding silently toward him. "Hope you found something to eat, little fella," he says to the viper. A quick hiss lets him know the snake seems to be doing just fine.

After a brief breakfast he joins the others and hears Grymash speaking about the voice in the night. "Hmm...I didn't hear anything either, Gry." He knows the half-orc well enough to know he needs to trust him. "What did the uh...wizard?...say?"

Anuk

Monday November 3rd, 2003 8:59:36 PM

After breakfast, the rogue crouches in the grass (Hide=26) and spies on the druid. She is curious about what he gains from his commune with nature, power or solace? Silently (Move Silently=24) she sneaks back to the centre of camp, so as not to interrupt Gilan's reverie.

Flea neatly packs up her bag, carefully rolling up the grass mat along with her bedroll. She drinks sparingly from her canteen.

Jake
Monday November 3rd, 2003 11:41:18 PM

The stalwart half-elf takes no notice of Gry's confused ramblings. He's had one or two dreams about beautiful maidens in distress that they come across...does he mention them? Nope. Sigh.
He packs up everything and gets ready, and sharpens his sword with a few schlicks of the whetstone.

Grymash  d20+9=15

Grymash responds to Anuk's question. "Gry not remember what wizard say .. huh .. me wuz layin' right here when wizard spoke to Gry. Then me wake up an ... OHHH!! Gry was sleepin' ... da spell flinger nothin' but dream, HA HA HA HAA HAA!" Grymash slaps his forehead while he laughs.

"Dream wuz so real-like. Gry thought da wizard joined pack. Nothin but stupid dream .. hee hee hee hee!!"

Grymash decides to spend some time searching for food (Survival check 15) before preparing for the days travel.
