DM Jan Wednesday October 29th, 2003 1:09:04 AM
The night passes uneventfully.
Two things are apparent the following morning -
1)A thumping headache and a mouth that feels like the bottom of a parrots cage, are whats left of the revelry for those who've had 'one too many'. For those who didn't - just thoughts of another day about to unfurl in Dirt City.
2) There's a dwarf hammering far too loudly on the door with a delivery - a wooden box, approximately 18" square.
Beyond the apartment, the City is getting back to normal. Jeraldh has had the items appraised and they are awaiting collection at his house next door.
There's also the possibility of that meeting at the Blue Eel at noon with Avenor, and all its implications.
If the group choose to go there, they'll find him sat at a corner table - alone.
Former Catacombs Clerk Vauhwyt d20+1=9 Wednesday October 29th, 2003 6:08:53 AM
During the night, Vauhwyt dreams that she is in a tavern, in a boxing ring, dueling someone. And both of them are wearing magic paper armor and fighting not with swords but with swordfish! "Wowsy!" she thinks to herself as she awakes.
When the dwarf arrives, Vauhwyt greets him and thanks him for the box. She tries to engage him in conversation. "Is this a delivery for us? Thank you! Who sent it to us? To whom was it directed, exactly? What is in it? What did you say your name was, my good dwarf? And here is a gold piece for your troubles!"
[OOC: Vauhwyt's very last piece of cash gold until the party treasure is divided! Also, an untrained Sense Motive check to get a feel for Mr. Delivery Dwarf = 9]
When all the items have been identified and laid out on the party's new conference table, Vauhwyt dons her old staff apron and reminds any who don't know that she used to work in the Catacombs magic shop. "Each of these items is worth about 2,000 gold pieces. Except the bracers -- each set is worth 1,000 gold. And except the dagger, worth about 8,300 gold."
She asks each person to pick out what they would like to have. There is, luckily, no conflict.
Rose wants the +2 Dagger. Olyn wants the +1 Amulet of Natural Armour. Vorelle wants one of the +1 Longbows. Devlin steps up to take the other +1 Longbow. Theodore asks for the +1 Ring of Protection. Zayne says he doesn't have a preference.
[OOC: Thanks to everyone for sending me their e-mail preferences. If we liked how this method worked out, let's use it again in the future?]
Vauhwyt herself lays claim to the +1 Longsword. "Truth is," she says, "I had my eye on the daggerr, but just to sell. Use it well, Rose!"
[OOC: Jan, is the dagger a medium (human) sized dagger or a small (halfling) sized dagger? If it is medium sized, Rose can certainly exchange it for a small sized one at the Catacombs. I don't know what, if anything, they charge for such a trade.]
To Zayne Vauhwyt awards both sets of bracers. "Both of these together are worth the same as one of these others. Please take both. You can sell or trade them at the Catacombs."
She looks around the table to see if anyone objects to that.
[OOC: Jan, I'm sorry to be a pain, but after whatever we paid for Identifies plus selling any mundane goods, how much gold do we have to split up, if any?]
Later, Vauhwyt is in favor of going to see Avenor. "I think this is a meeting we would do very well to attend."
Olyn Wednesday October 29th, 2003 11:09:51 AM
after waking up on his new, comfortable bedding, Olyn arises to a hearty breakfast and morning meditation. after such, and hearing the delivery Olyn strolls out and sits at one of the chairs at the table. when the loot is divided between the group, and noone is sore for any splits, Olyn promptly dons the amulet, letting it hang around his neck and under his shirt.
then, as the conversation proceeds Olyn pipes up: I have to agree with Vauhwyt. what better way to fortify our friendship with the Wolves than for our next adventure be at their behest.
Zayne Wednesday October 29th, 2003 11:36:36 AM
After a night where he had about five too many he lies on the floor trying to remember everything he did the previous night. There are flashes of him singing,or attempting to. There also seems to be a memory of dancing on a table with a tankard in each hand.
When to dwarf arrives he curls into a ball and wishes for the offending knockers hands to fall off.
When he realizes that he wont be getting back to sleep anytime soon he decides to get up and see check into Avenor's offer, after he gets himself something to eat.
Theodore Wednesday October 29th, 2003 3:25:29 PM
Theodore is quite happy to have the ring in his protection. He immediately slips it on the middle finger of his right hand and offers to show it off to anyone interested. "You look very dapper with your amulet on, Olyn," he compliments the priest.
He nods at Vauhwyt's suggestion to see Avenor at the Blue Eel. "That sounds good to me. I'm curious to know what they would like us to do for them."
Devlin Wednesday October 29th, 2003 4:46:57 PM
Devlin wakes on the floor much like Zayne did, wondering which was louder, the pounding on the door or that in his head. He gave a slight moan at the intrusion and then rolled to his other side, completing the wrinkling of the beautiful shirt he had bought yesterday for the wedding.
Having been one of the last to awake, Devlin joins the others after a late breakfast and gladly takes the offered longbow. He quietly pledges to put it to the best possible use in their collective defense, just not today if at all possible. He appreciates having found a friend in the group such as Zayne that shares his appetite and desires for fun, but he promises himself that they'll have to exercise more self-control next time. Haven't I already promised myself that before, he muses as they make their way to the Blue Eel Inn.
Once there, Devlin can't resist having another drink. "Hair of the dog," he says as the others look at him as he orders. He remains quiet as Avenor explains the need to meet with them.
Vorelle Wednesday October 29th, 2003 6:05:42 PM
Despite her seeming disinterest in the magic items, Vorelle is pleased with her new bow. Throughout the day she can be seen running her hands along the wood and testing the pull of the string.
She looks alarmed at the prospect of going to the Blue Eel, but dutifully gathers her things to accompany her new friends. She can't let them face this alone, after all.
rose Wednesday October 29th, 2003 6:21:33 PM
occ: i believe that jeraldh id'd the stuff for free.
Rose wakes up happy with how everything went the day before, the food was delicious and she had some varieties of tea that she usually cant afford. She sings loudly the whole morning, after waking up. She is curious about the box and checks it for traps, just to be safe.
"vauhwyt, you shouldn't give such large tips, a silver would have been more than enough. probably about a week of his pay.
She eats some of the stew she started cooking yesterday for breakfast with some bread and cheese. after breakfast she sits down with her sewing she cuts the black and white cloth into 6" squares, then cuts the green cloth into stems and leaves and the red cloth into roses and other red flowers. she sews a flower onto each square of red and black cloth, then sews the squares together to make small throw pillows...they only need to be stuffed now.
Later she gets ready to go to the tavern with the others.
DM Jan Thursday October 30th, 2003 1:28:29 AM
The dwarf - who's name turns out to be Burt, tosses the gold piece up in the air, catches it deftly, chuckles and places it in his top pocket, then off he goes.
The box is from the Wolves, has a sturdy latch, but no traps or anything else to surprise the unwary. Inside, are 8 signet rings - flat-topped, good quality silver, and engraved with the face of a wolf, with two tiny, light amber chips set in the eyes. The design is fairly masculine. Their value? Between 5 and 10 GP.
In Dirt City - signet rings had many uses, depending on their design. Some carried seals to authenticate documents, some indicated rank by their design and metal, and - as in this particular case, were sometimes worn to indicate an allegience - show that you were member of a certain 'club'. They could get you out of trouble, or in it - in equal measure, depending upon the situation. They were worn on fingers, hidden in pockets, worn on chains around the neck, again - depending upon the situation.
Up on the 'outside' level of the City, there's no wind to whip up the dust, and the fog has all but burned off. In the Backstab Quarter - the Blue Eel is doing average business, and its fairly quiet. The board outside advertises spicy turkey stew (made from leftovers from yesterdays revelry), and apple dumplings for lunch.
Avenor sits at a corner table, his back to the wall so he can see the door.
((OOC - the dagger is 'medium' sized, as it was carried by the elven bowman. lets ask at the Catacombs. As for the cash, Cayze I have no idea lol))
Dietrich the Bear d20+4=23 d20+4=22 d20+2=18 Thursday October 30th, 2003 5:05:08 AM
Dietrich wakes up early, makes some exercises, takes a cold bath and finanly eats calmly a huge portion of everything he can get. "So sorry I had to work yesterday, the party was fine. Well, duty is duty." He carefully prepares his armour, cleans and sharpens his sword and lets the knapsack in his room. Soon before noon he makes his way to the Blue Eel Inn. Observing his surroundings through the small sight openings in his closed steel helmet (spot 23) Dietrich marches fastly, hands on the broadswordīs haft. "Bloody dust! This city deserves its name!" He enters the inn, takes off the helmet and gives a grim look to everybody in the room. When he sees Avenor, he goes straight towards him, manly greeting in his dark guttural voice, "Greetings master Avenor.", than he orders a glass of ale and the spicy turkey and finalt sits down on Avenorīs side, instinctively attentive on his environment.

Olyn Thursday October 30th, 2003 10:48:32 AM
taking the proffered ring, Olyn slips it on the leather cord holding his new amulet and resplips it back under his shirt.
when all are ready to go, Olyn again leaves without his equipment, not expecting a major confrontation.
motioning for Theodore to walk with him and Vauhwyt he again makes small talk with the young mage, involving the Liontauress in the conversation.
upon arriving at the Blue Eel he turns to the mage and says: you stick close to me, if a fight breaks out we'll cover each others behinds.
when the group enters the tavern, Olyn stands there a second, waiting for his eyes to adjust to the lower level of light. upon seeing Avenor, Olyn nods and walks up to the table and, if offered, takes a seat opposite of the Avenor and the man seated next to him.
politely refusing food, Olyn orders a mulled wine.
Vauhwyt Thursday October 30th, 2003 11:04:37 AM
Since she gave her last gold to Burt, Vauhwyt digs up the cash they took from Ba'bac and his archers, and then she divides it up. "There are 360 gold pieces herre," she says, "24 of that we used for the conference table, bedding, decorations, and furnishings. So each of us gets 48 coins, and we are squarre."
Looking over the Wolf Rings, Vahwyt counts them a couple times. "Eight rings, but there are only seven of us. Is one intended for Cade, who is off on his errand? I guess we will have to ask Avenorr."
She takes a ring for herself and also carries the extra, if no one minds. She puts hers on, holding it up to admire it. "I think I'll wear mine to the meeting," she says.
Then she goes out -- shopping -- and will meet the group at the inn. [OOC -- going to the Catacombs.]
At the appointed time, Vauhwyt arrives at the tavern, sees Avenor sitting with an armored person. She walks up. "Hello, Master Avenorr," she says, the liontaur accent burring in her throat. "Well met," she adds as she joins him.
Zayne Thursday October 30th, 2003 11:25:52 AM
Having eaten some of Rose's stew which might actually have tasted great,if the inside of his mouth didn't taste like the bottom of an ale barrel. He thanks her.
After the late breakfast and the distribution of booty, and on the way to meet with Avenor he asks Devlin if he wants to go to the merchan't quarter later to pick up some furniture for the apartment.
By the time they get to the Eel he is feeling slightly better, and he accepts Avenor's offer of food, and also orders a "hair of the dog",you know to take the bite off.
rose Thursday October 30th, 2003 1:09:23 PM "wait for me vauhwy, I'll go to the catacombs to." after going to the catacombs with vauhwyt rose goes to her parents house and leaves some extra money with her parents. then heads for the inn with the others.
occ: jan is there a bank in dirt city, if so could you send me some info on it.
Devlin Thursday October 30th, 2003 4:57:55 PM
Taking the Wolf ring from Vaughwyt, Devlin gives it a hard stare and untrusting gaze. He liked having the Wolves owe him but he didn't terribly like the idea of being beholden to them. And now, to wear their ring around town for all to see. Not bloody likely, he thought as he slipped the ring into his pocket.
In preparation for their meeting with Avenor, Devlin makes sure that he is armed before heading out with the others. The glare of the sun causes more problems with his hangover as they reach the surface. When Zayne mentions the merchant quarter, he nods his head in agreement. Sleeping on the floor last night was causing a terrible ache to his back as it was. He also makes a mental note to purchase a necklace to put the wolf signet ring on.
At the Blue Eel, Devlin ignores the individual sitting with Avenor and instead plops down next to Avenor with a deep sigh. He eats the offered food ravenously, as if he hadn't eaten in days, hoping that the food will help to settle his stomach.
Vorelle d20+5=22 Thursday October 30th, 2003 6:40:05 PM
Vorelle is no elf, but the rings seem to be sized for male fingers. She can sort of persuade hers to stay on one of her middle fingers, but it threatens to slip off with a careless gesture. She pockets it carefully.
She unstrings her old bow, wraps it in a scrap of cloth, and carefully stows it away with her other belongings. She gladly accepts her share of the gold from Vauhwyt, but doesn't seem to be in a big hurry to spend it.
As she accompanies the others to the Blue Eel, she keeps a watchful eye on their surroundings, looking for anyone showing too much interest. Ba'Bac may be gone, but they have to assume some of the conspirators are still breathing.
[Spot 22]
Theodore Thursday October 30th, 2003 8:30:17 PM
Theodore sees the intelligence in not wearing the ring around town, but slips it on before they enter the Blue Eel so as not to offend Avenor.
The mage sits down at the table and folds his arms, then rests his head on his right hand, then his left, then slides down in his chair, then scoots himself back up. Eventually, he finds a position he's comfortable with and waits for Avenor to begin.
DM Jan Friday October 31st, 2003 9:35:08 AM
Avenor greets everyone with a nod, his eyes resting briefly on the rings of Theo and Vauhwyt. "Good," he says. "I'm glad you decided to meet up here. This is Dietrich," he adds. "I asked him to join us because I think it may be advantageous. The more the merrier." The head of Wolf security's face twitches in a momentary grin. "We'll eat, drink first - then talk."
Vorelle and Dietrich will note the occasional glance from other patrons, and maybe the servers as they flit by with trays of drinks and food, signifying that the gossip machine will have taken note -
Avenor talking to a group - a mixture of wolves and non-wolves by the looks of some of the rings worn, what was that all about? Can't be too important, not if they're in the Inn for all to see, and then again...
"I have a job for you," Avenor says eventually, adding a little nonchalance with a shrug. "It's just a bit of 'sightseeing', out of town for a few days. It will pay well, of course. If you're amenable - meet me in a few hours at this location, and we'll go over the details.
He pushes a note across the table.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I have business to attend to."
He rises, gives a stiff bow, and leaves via the front door.
The note is in common, a VERY neat script, and it reads -
"Meet NOW - stairs around the back of Eel - Door 12. Subtlety will help."
((OOC - Folks, I'm out of town until late Sunday night. Have a good weekend :) ))
Dietrich d20+4=17 d20+2=20 Friday October 31st, 2003 11:28:51 AM
While eating his turkey, Dietrich wonders about the people coming to meet Avenor. He musters one after the other and trys to hide his amazement with the liontaur. The sight of the predatorlike woman rises his attention and his muscles get tense. 'A formidable adversary, thatīs for sure.'is his first tought. Than he notes that the individuals composing the group are quite different from average and he also perceives the rare quality of their weapons. 'Really an extraordinary tactical unit!'
Not hiding the scar in his face, he greets the group, "Salutations noble companions." offering a strong handshake, but taking care not to hurt the small hobbit. "Iīm swordmaster Dietrich of the Windbourne Hills. It seems we are going to do some work together."
Dietrich also notes the people in the Inn commenting the event. 'Whatever'
He finishes his ale, orders a "hair of the dog" too, and after some 5 minutes he pays for the food and walks out alone or in a smaller group to the appointed gathering. He tries to be as subtle as he can, though itīs not easy with his huge body, clirring armour and equipment.
He continues observing the surroundings (spot 17, listening 20)and his new comrades.
Zayne d20+4=21 Friday October 31st, 2003 12:22:03 PM
Waiting until the attention has shifted from the table,(spot 21)he cassually gets up and leaves a few small coins on the table and leaves the tavern.
Once outside he heads up the street then walks around the block so that he can go to the back of the Eel from the oppsite direction.
Theodore d20+2=18 Friday October 31st, 2003 12:28:16 PM
"Guess I'll go home then," says Theodore slyly. He gives Olyn a wink before pushing himself to his feet, sinking back into his chair as Avenor bumps him accidentally, and rising again with a blush.
He clears his throat and adjusts his tunic before leaving the tavern. Outside, he glances about to make sure he is being paid no undue attention (spot check 18), then quickly slips around behind the pub to the meeting place.
Devlin Friday October 31st, 2003 3:52:35 PM
As the others start to get up individually to leave he gives a deep sigh and shakes his head slowly. We seven came in together, he thinks to himself, if we leave individually we just look like we're trying to be inconspicuous. The young fighter shakes his head in consternation as he gets up with Olyn and motions for the others to join him.
"No point in staying any longer," he says as he rises.
rose Friday October 31st, 2003 6:01:56 PM
Rose quietly whispers to the ones leaving "we shouldn't all leave at once, I'll be along in a few minutes She then orders some tea, cookies, bread, cheese and a slice of roast. She quickly eates the meat and some of the bread, puts the remaining cookies, bread, and cheese away for later and finishes the tea before paying and leaving.
Vorelle Friday October 31st, 2003 9:07:17 PM
Vorelle lingers with Rose and Vauhwyt (just girlfriends gabbing; nothing to see here), and tries to arrange it so the three of them leave together.
Olyn d20+6=17 d20+5=7 d20+5=6 Saturday November 1st, 2003 4:35:00 PM
being the last to leave, to assest the other people in the taverns reaction to the quick meeting, Olyn takes the passed note, and eats it. walking up to the female barwench he hands her 3 silvers saying: thanks for the quick hospitality.
then, bowing slightly he saunders out the front door and down the street heading away from the Inn. a few buildings down the street he stops to "window shop" and then ducks into the alley way between the 2 buildings.
attempting to hide in shadows(dc17) Olyn makes his way back to the meeting spot. ducking from shadow to shadow until he arrives back. then, before heading to the room he stops and looks and listens before doing so(listen:dc7, spot:dc6)
then knocking and letting himself be known, he enters through door #12, shutting the door quickly and quietly.
Vauhwyt d20+1=8 d20+7=12 Saturday November 1st, 2003 5:29:29 PM
Travelling with Rose and Vorelle, Vauhwyt tries to be unobstrusive (hide check 8) and to direct the eyes of others away from herself (bluff check 12).
She makes her way to door number 12.
DM Jan Monday November 3rd, 2003 12:33:58 PM
The group begins to split up and drift out of the tavern.
Zayne can't see any obvious interest - any body language that might alert him to any extra attention within the crowd of patrons. After supplementing his lunch (mmmmmm, paper!) Olyn can't see anyone following the others, either.
Outside, the street is fairly busy. Around the back is another story. No one, except - Both Dietrich and Theo spot a human girl - teenager by the looks of it, rummaging through trash in a small side alley that adjoins the main back alley. Could be nothing, of course...
On the back wall of the Blue Eeel - At the top of some rickety stairs is a back door which opens easily onto a long corridor that runs the whole width of the upper tavern by the looks of it. There are 6 doors, all numbered even - 2, 4, etc. Muffled voices can be heard coming from behind #6.
Behind #12 - is Avenor. This looks definitely like some kind of meeting room. A large table, several chairs of different design that look to have seen better days. There is nothing adorning the walls - it's quite bare, no windows and there is another door (closed) at one corner of the wall that faces the outer corridor wall. Light comes from a squat lantern on the table, and another hanging from a hook in one corner that exhudes the smell of oil.
Once everyone is inside, the Wolf Clan head of security gets down to business.
'This should be a spy mission, nothing more. We sanctioned a dig, up north in the hills. The team of dwarves - the miners, were certain they were onto a 'very' lucrative seam of mithril. We recieved regular reports - and then nothing. 'For the last three weeks everything has gone silent. Your objective, of course would be to discover what - if anything, has happened. 'Questions?'
((OOC - sorry this is late, folks. Got back at 10pm last night, and I was too shattered to post :( ))
Olyn Monday November 3rd, 2003 1:00:28 PM
so let me get this straight. you want us to go to this "dig" and find out what has happened to the miners there? we are not required to save them if they are being held captive or kill the opposing source of their capture or death? we are just to go and investigate then report back to you where??
*sensing something amiss*
we all know that a simple anything is never that simple. 99 times out of 95 there is always something else, so please, tell us what that is before we agree to anything. and after that, what is our payment if we choose to accept this mission?
Zayne Monday November 3rd, 2003 1:50:36 PM
Nodding his head in agreement to Olyn's statement. He sits and listens carefully, gently stroking his nose with his left forefinger.
Devlin Monday November 3rd, 2003 3:47:32 PM
Before entering the room, Devlin takes forth the signet ring given to them by the Wolves and slips it on his left hand. He had meant to do that earlier but had forgotten. He didn't want to offend Avenor a second time. Taking a seat and making himself comfortable, he listens to the job offer put forth by Avenor as well as the questions from his companions. In all honesty, the only question that had any real bearing for him was how much they would be paid. He settles back in his chair to wait for Avenor to state the price before bargaining began.
Dietrich d20+2=5 Monday November 3rd, 2003 4:43:34 PM
Dietrich trys to identify if the poor girl is observing the group and he trys to memorize her face. She reminds him the many children victims of war he has seen and the memories sadden him. Anyway, itīs better to stay alert. It could be nothing, but it could be something too. In room 12, he sits down and watch the others talking, without any expression on his own position. He deduces that the priest is the leader and accepts it. Dietrichīs main thinking is about the money, though he is also interested in as many details of the operation as he can get and in a clear determination of the contract. He continues attentive, listening to the environment (listen 5).
Vauhwyt Monday November 3rd, 2003 5:14:09 PM
The liontaur listens very carefully. She has a few questions. "Could we have a map to the site? What threats are in the arrea? Did their last reports offer any hint of anything going wrong? Do you think it would profit us to look at the reports? How many dwarves were therre? Any other people who were at the site?"
Vorelle Monday November 3rd, 2003 5:56:48 PM
As is her wont, Vorelle keeps to the back, keeps her head down, and listens attentively.
A chance to get outside the city would be lovely, she thinks idly.
rose d20=5 d20+4=9 d20+5=15 Monday November 3rd, 2003 11:45:54 PM
Rose listens to the others, and nods her agreement when they speak. She is watching Avenor and trying to tell if he's telling the truth. The job sounds interesting, but she wants more information, and is a little scared about leaving the city which is something she's never done.

DM Jan Tuesday November 4th, 2003 2:11:37 AM
Avenor gives a humourless smile at Olyn's questions.
"Well, here's the problem. We 'think' there's a possibility of another House's involvement. Someone else has found out what's going on, and so they've moved in and taken over. We don't suspect any demi-human interference. Orcs and their like are few and far between after the Gold Dragons took most of them out. "Still... you never know. I'd like to know what we're up against first, wouldn't you? No point in charging in, if you're going to be outclassed, and if it 'is' another House, then things could get somewhat political."
The slight draught coming from under the door causes everyone's shadow to dance slighty along the wall as they listen to Avenor's answers. Dietrich commits to memory the pale, too-thin face of the girl rummaging in the garbage ealier.
As for Vauhwyt's questions -
"We can give you a map, yes. The only threats we know of, are a few wandering bands of evil-kind in the hills. Care has to be taken because of the nature of the territory - lots of hillocks that give plenty of cover. There were - " he pauses for a moment - " 12 dwarves in the team, no one else. This was a fairly secret operation. As for the reports - they were/are confidential of course, but I can tell you there was nothing in there to warn us. "The reward - 500 GP each."
Rose finds it difficult to read Avenor's face. He's obviously a pro at hiding the truth if need be, although she does catch his eyes checking out Vorelle at one time when he thinks the ranger isnt looking.
Dietrich d20-1=5 Tuesday November 4th, 2003 8:00:29 AM
Dietrich can barely hide his excitement(bluff 5)with the new task. He almost feels the adrenalin rising in his blood. 'Some exercise will be good and 500 gp is a considerable account of money, just for taking a look. Besides, everything is political and you canīt stay neutral forever.' Dietrich asks how payment will be done, if 50% now and the rest later (as this would allow better preparations) and when they shall start. In any case:"Iīm in."
Vauhwyt d20+7=13 Tuesday November 4th, 2003 10:33:30 AM
Vauhwyt's natural paranoia kicks in and she looks at Dietrich to see if he wears a wolf ring. When the "swordmaster" (since that's what he called himself) announces that he is joining the group, she is not surprised.
"Naturally he is coming along," she thinks privately to herself. "The Wolves do not trust us yet and are sending a spy to report on our actions."
Out loud, she tries to conceal her suspicions (Bluff check 13) and only says, "Well, good Dietrich, since you are joining us, it is only right that we know each otherr." A slight trace of a wemic accent slips into her words. "I am Vauhwyt, and these are Olyn, Rose, Devlin, and Zayne. The quiet ones are Theodore and Vorelle."
Then she smiles broadly. "Now we number eight -- a number of good omen, since many bands of famed adventurers have indeed come in eights!"
She bows to Avenor. "I for one will accept this job. As soon as we have the map we can be off."
"But one final question. If I am not mistaken, since we will be well beyond Dirt City, there is no prohibition on violence, is therre?"
Olyn d20+6=12 d20+6=12 d20+6=10 Tuesday November 4th, 2003 12:32:26 PM
sitting back, knowing the answers the man would be giving would be cryptic at most. and knowing the answers he did give still leave more questions than answers.
oh the many questions running rampant in Olynīs brain right now but also knowing none can be answered to his satisfaction.
so like the others, Olyn nods his agreement to go on one condition: the job is to find out what happened to the dwarves. that was your original offer. if we go above that job and either rescue them or destroy those who sought them ill will, and if we do find out the house, if there be one, that is involved, that we should be compensated for the extra information.
Olyn then gets up, moves to the door, and puts his ear against it to see if anyone outside the door is eavesdropping. (Listen of 12, disregard the other 2, was lagged momentarily and hit the enter button 2 extra times)
Zayne Tuesday November 4th, 2003 12:46:37 PM
Thinking htat it would be fun to be on the road again,he accepts the job.
Thinking that 500gp per person sounds too good to be true,he is cautious. With the announcement that Dietrich is going to join them makes him even more wary.
After the meeting is finished he goes over to Devlin and asks,"Are you ready to go get some furniture?" Then to Olyn,"Would you like to join us?"
Theodore Tuesday November 4th, 2003 12:54:23 PM
"Oh, wow!" exclaims Theodore. "We're going outside of the city? That's great! Of course we'll do it. You don't even have to give us money for it. The sheer adventure would be enough!"
The exuberant mage stops abruptly, feeling he might have overstepped his bounds. "Of course, we will take the offered money," he begins. "It's only right after all, putting us into danger and such." He nods sagely.
Devlin Tuesday November 4th, 2003 4:43:22 PM
Devlin cautiously takes the whole thing in to process and smiles as his newfound companions take the offered job. Looking over the assembled group, he quickly realizes that he has at least five years in age over the next closest, with the exception of Vauhwyt who's age he can't determine and the newcomer Dietrich. He figures he'll have to take on more of a leadership role for them if they are to live through this and that causes him to frown ever so slightly. His mood brightens as Dietrich talks about pre-payment for the job. That's a pretty good sign that he's not a Wolf spy as it would be hard to imagine them wanting to give half the money up front. The man probably had a good head on his shoulders. Hopefully, he'd be able to keep it!
"Yes, half will need to be upfront, we'll have expenses to take care of first and preparations to make."
After leaving and Zayne asks him about getting furniture, he gives his friend a nod. "Sure. My head is finally feeling better, I think I could handle a bit of shopping."
rose Tuesday November 4th, 2003 5:32:22 PM
after everybody is done talking but before they leave rose says "I think we should leave in the morning, that will give us time to prepare and it's a bit late to leave now."
She then tags along with the guys "What are we going to buy?"
Vorelle Tuesday November 4th, 2003 8:36:41 PM
Vorelle listens and says nothing. Five hundred gold is an almost unimaginably sum to her--which means that what they're going to do must be incredibly dangerous.
DM Jan Wednesday November 5th, 2003 1:06:17 AM
Avenor shrugs, and is partially amenable to the negotiations. "I can give you 150 GP each right now. 'Right now' its all I can get my hands on at short notice. As for extra, you get paid for what you've been sanctioned to do. If you do anything over and above, thats at your own discretion and your own cost. "I'll have the cash delivered to you later this afternoon via the usual courier - along with a map." "Once you're outside city boundaries," he says to Vauhwyt, "you are no longer bound by their laws. Just be careful. It isn't a park for children to play in. Mount Bone once held sway over these lands, and rumour has it, the Gold Dragons weren't as strong as we were led to believe they were." He ends with a sigh - "Darkness lingers in that mountain. I feel it on the wind. But your journey will end far short of that evil place."
The liontaur introduces the rest of the group to the newcomer, Dietrich. Olyn listens at the door and can hear the distant chatter of the tavern beyond, but nothing else to alert any suspicion.
The Wolf Clan member stands. "If that is all, I'd best be on my way. You have plans to make, I'm sure. If all goes well, you'll be back within the week, and you can ask for me at the Wolf Tower."
Current Dirt City time - early to mid-afternoon.
Dietrich d20-1=19 d20+2=6 d20-1=6 d20-1=8 Wednesday November 5th, 2003 8:06:52 AM
OOC: Sorry for always posting first. Itīs the time zone and my eagerness to play. :)
Dietrich listens carefully to all talking and greets everybody as they are introduced by Vauhwyt. He realizes that there are some in the group that never went out of the city and is surprised and amazed. Seeing Theodoreīs clothing and behaviour he controls a smile (acting 19), though he sayīs to himself: 'Attention with your prejudice and donīt judge things by their appearence. This weird wizard folk has very excentric ways' 'Also, I guess itīs exactly to protect the civilians in the group that Iīm here.'
He is satisfied with the 150 gp. Itīs still lotīs of money. Talking to the group he says: "I think we should plan our job together. If you donīt mind, Iīd like to accompany you to meet that courier, as Iīll need the money soon."
Once the group starts planning, he makes the following suggestions: "Iīd like to suggest that we travell by horse and that we buy a common wagon with horse to carry supplys for us and the horses, as well as possible booty. If terrain is against the usage of a wagon, Iīd like to suggest us to buy common mules for that purpose. Iīd also like to know who is the commander of the team. If there is none, I would suggest that we chose a tactical leader for emergengy combat situations, where decisions have to be taken quikly, and a spokesman to talk for the group as a unit. Outside this specifical situations everybody would remain independent and decisions would be taken by the team as a whole."
"Finaly, Iīd like to propose the following march order (If he getīs the memberīs apparent functions by their clothes and equipment): Ranger 1 front-left, Ranger 2 front-right, both far enough to perceive possible threats early but near enough to get help if necessary; or both together some hours ahead as Scouts; train, Olyn (reserve and healing), Theodore and Rose in the midle; Vauhwyt behind, like the rangers, covering our back; Fighter 1 and 2 direct front of the train."
Military knowledge (6) for analyzis of flaws in the formation.
After planning, he goes shopping. If the group decides for horses, heīll buy a light warhorse with the 150 gp. If the group is going to walk, he will try to buy a plate mail with the money and the difference of his chainmail.(diplomacy 6)If the group decides to buy a wagon or mules, he beg them to lend him his part on the common costs, as he is really short of money.(diplomacy 8)
Devlin Wednesday November 5th, 2003 11:51:31 AM
Devlin accepts the 150gp up front, not exactly the amount he wanted but he could accept that might be the best Avenor could do. It would be enough to help them outfit themselves.
As Dietrich starts to discuss the plans, he chimes in when talk goes to the horses and mules and such. "I think we should just get what we can carry and not worry about anything else. We are heading to a mountain that for all we know is deserted. We are to head into this mountain though to investigate so what do we do with the horses or mules then? Leave them outside the entrance? I'm not sure that makes good use of the coin we have."
"I've got no problem carrying a pack on my back that will secure all I should need. I assume the rest of you can as well?"
Vauhwyt Wednesday November 5th, 2003 11:57:56 AM
Dietrich's points about leadership and marching order reinforce Vauhwyt's suspicion that the wolves have planted him in the group in order to make sure things go as they plan. Her fundamental resistance to authority kicks in, but she mostly holds her tongue, until after Avenor leaves.
Then she says, "We don't have a leader, and I personally see no need for one. Let each act as he or she deems best. I myself welcome suggestions, ideas, and advice, but now that I have won my freedom, I do not intend to follow anyone's orders ever again!"
The liontaur looks around. "Anyway, we are here gathered in a private place. Let's just make our plans right now. Then we can go shopping and meet again in the morning before we depart."
"I think a mule is a great idea, just to carry a week or two worth of food and water. I think a wagon is too limiting, since we may have to go off road. A sure-footed mule can do that, but not a wagon."
"But we need the mule. I would have to carry 40 pounds of food for ten days; each of you would have to carry ten, except for Rose, who would only need two or three. That's not too bad, but we also each need a gallon of water a day (four for me) -- that's eight pounds of water a day each (32 pounds a day for me). So the mule makes sense in the Badlands, I think." [OOC: these facts based on the PHB (Create Water spell) and DMG (rules for thirst and starvation)]
"I think we need to keep in mind that this is an information-gathering job. We need to be stealthy. I intend to trade in my studded armor for something lighter. I also intend to buy two magic elixers -- of sneaking and hiding."
"I think we should keep a low profile and walk cross-country to the site. We have rangers who can lead us. By keeping off the roads, we can escape attention, maybe."
"When we are close, we need to sneak in, get as much information as we can, and then sneak out. Those who are not stealthy might well wish to consider magical aid. An elixer of hiding costs 250 gold. An elixer of sneaking costs the same. Each lasts an hourr. In that hour we can get in and out. If anyone who wants to buy an elixer cannot afford it, I would be willing to make a loan, but I would have to be repaid as soon as possible."
"What does everybody else think?"
Zayne Wednesday November 5th, 2003 1:26:14 PM
Having his own suspicions about Dietrich he tries to step in before something bad happens,"What my friend here is trying to say,is that we are all equal here and if one of us has more expierience or knowlege about a situation, then he or she shares that with the group."
Looking around at everyone here, then noticing Vorelle,"And we don't force anyone do anything that they can't." He says the last with satisfaction. "Now lets hurry up and get ourselves a couple beds so I can spend the rest of today in mine. I have a headache in the back of my eyes that is making me irritable. "
Dietrich Wednesday November 5th, 2003 1:51:24 PM
Noting the adverse reactions to his suggestions, Dietrich trys to explain himself better. "Excuse me my friends, my proposals about organizing the group werenīt in any way aimed to initiate anykind of dictatorship and neither was I suggesting that I should be the 'leader'. It was only to have some pragmatical organization for situations that demands quick decisions." "I also understood that this mountain is some days away, so Iīd still suggest to have the horses to get there and, principaly, away fast. But if weīre going by feet itīs allright for me, though Iīll take at least a mule."
He waits for the decisions of the group and then goes shopping and back to his room.
Theodore Wednesday November 5th, 2003 2:08:04 PM
"A hundred and fifty gold pieces!" Theodore's eyes begin to grow at Avenor's offer. "That's a lot of money! I don't know what I could do with all that. Actually, there was that one thing I was saving up for..."
"But that can wait," he says to the group, expecting them to know what he was talking about. "We should all return to our apartments and prepare for our journey." That said, Theodore shuffles to the door and hikes up his pants before leaving room #12 and making his way home.
Olyn Wednesday November 5th, 2003 4:48:08 PM
thinks aloud but speaking to himself: gotta see what the weather has been like outside of the town for the last couple weeks, and buy equipment appropriate. need to get us 2 mules, both stocked with supplies and extra equipment like climbing gear in case it is required, plus a second mule in case one of us falls due to combat or illness. being over prepared is better than being under. a few healing draughts extra would be helpful to backup my healing spells, if it is required.
to those still present: let us retire to our domicile, where we know who is next door and who may be listening where as now we may not.
and with that said, he gets up and waits for the rest and leaves with them.
Vorelle Wednesday November 5th, 2003 6:18:57 PM
Vorelle listens in silence, as is her wont. She is in agreement about getting one or more mules and will help procure them if necessary.
When mounts for the party are discussed, she simply says, "I d-d-d-on't r-r-ride."
rose Wednesday November 5th, 2003 9:35:52 PM
Rose listens to the discussions then chimes in "I know we need a few mules to carry supplies, but both vorelle and vauhwyt can't ride so anybody who has riding animals will be moving faster than the others and have to take food and water for the animal. And anybody buying heavy armor needs to remember that either the mule or he will be carrying it, I know i wouldnt want to walk in that stuff. I say we go back to the apartment and each of us make a list of what we have and what we need, then we know how much to spend. I may be able to loan people money also, it depends on what we need." Rose sits back and thinks of what she does and does not need to take.
Ooc: Jan what time of year is it and what type of weather can we expect?
DM Jan Thursday November 6th, 2003 1:23:27 AM
As the group starts to organise, several things can be noted -
Mules can be bought locally for 8GP, as can bedding and non-magic clothing.
Armour, weaponry, potions, scrolls etc, will need to be purchased at the mysterious Catacombs, a place that exists between worlds. Portals to this place are found throughout the City.
Burt the dwarf arrives after an hour or so with the promised GPs, along with a map of the area. There isn't much detail, but he has some advice.
"It's rough, hilly country, and when the wind's up it can get very cold, so keep that in mind. The distant Mount Bone is a good point of reference, but don't go too close to that place. The camp is a good two days walk, and I have to say that I would be interested to know whats going on up there. I have a cousin up there, and we're all starting to get worried. I'm presuming they're mining, but no one's really said for sure." He taps his nose. "Sometimes its better not to ask. Still, my family would appreciate news."
The afternoon rolls into evening.
((OOC - folks, I'll trust you to organise your cash, and just deduct for things you can buy locally. Any Catacombs purchase - we should follow the normal procedure. I know things take time in there, so to keep the game rolling, I'll presume whatever you bought, happened during this 'afternoon' in the game. Just remember to keep me informed, and don't forget to keep the character sheets up to date.))
Rose Thursday November 6th, 2003 2:03:53 AM
Rose gets some ink and paper and starts to make a list of what she needs to take, she talks to herself as she writes everything down (some suggestions from others would be nice)
[i]"Bedroll Winter blankets Winter clothes Cooking pot Food "what do you guys like to eat, who should do the cooking, we should start a general fund for things like food that everyone will use. Weapons Whet stone Tent Lantern and oil Pack Extra socks Hmm, should I take ink and paper, might as well it may be useful Ropes Soap Mirror Hair brush Ribbons More arrows Flint and steel Do any of you think we might need some tinder twigs, or should the flint work well enough? Mule Packsaddle Feed
"It's two days there and two back, lets say it takes 3 days to find out what the problem is. We'll need supplies for us and the mules for one week, maybe more."
After everyone is done answering her questions and offering suggestions rose quickly writes down a list of things to buy and goes shopping.
Vauhwyt Thursday November 6th, 2003 7:05:27 AM
Vauhwyt listens to Dietrich and nods. "I'm imagining that when we find the dig, we will back off and hide the mules maybe five minutes walk away. We might wait there until dark begins to fall. Then we'll sneak closer -- crawling at dusk, maybe. A few hundred feet from the dig, we will hide the noisy members of the party. Then the stealthy among us will advance and spy. We will return without going inside any buildings to report and plan."
"What do you guys think of this suggestion?"
When Vorelle says that she doesn't ride, Vauhwyt smiles and says, "Me neither. So I don't see much use for horses. And if someone with short legs (she smiles at Rose) has trouble keeping up, I would be happy to offer a ride."
When Theodore says there is something he is saving up for, Vauhwyt smiles and says, "Me too. But I think what you are saving up for is more wriggly." She laughs.
Hearing Rose's long list of possible purchases, Vauhwyt grins. "Just like a hobbit! Bringing all the comforts of home! As for me, food, water, and lots of blankets are all I recommend." The liontaur kicks in 8 gold pieces.
Vauhwyt sympathizes with Burt the dwarf. "I'll keep my eyes open for your cousin. What's his name? What's he look like? Look us up when we return, and I'll tell you what we find. By the way, how do we get in touch with Avenor when we get back?"
Finally, the liontaur heads over to the Catacombs, makes some purchases, and gets to bed. In the morning, she is up at daybreak to get the expedition moving.
Oh! And before they head out, she goes to Jeraldh. "How are those boys of yours doing?" After a little chit-chat, she lets him know that they are going out of town for a week or two but will return.
Dietrich Thursday November 6th, 2003 10:21:28 AM
Dietrich is satisfied with the results of the planning. After all things are being organized and 8 heads think better than one. Two days marching is really a promanade and as some canīt ride he accepts going by feet with no problem. Looking to Vauhwyt and then to the rest of the group: "I absolutely agree with your plan. After we get there, the sneaky people take a look, while I, Theodore and perhaps Devlin (I donīt know how sneaky you are :)) stay in reserve in the case there is a fight." "But Iīd still like to suggest that while we march to the dig, a group of scouts advances ahead the maingroup to prevent possible traps. Avenor said this hills are dangerous and perfect for traps" Listening to Rose, Dietrich is amazed with the detailed list and enphasis on food! He is very pleased with that! Eventually he asks: "Now that everthing is arranged, what exact time will we part and where shall we met? Perhaps we could leave the city in separate groups and join some 10 minutes ahead, to avoid too much gossip." Then he goes shopping. After that he searches a shrire to Domi and Gargul and make a pray and sacrifice (1 gp to each).Finaly he returns to his room and goes to bed. OOC: Dietrich has no wolfring yet.
Olyn Thursday November 6th, 2003 10:37:54 AM
Olyn heads to the general store to purchase cold weather and climbing gear and a mule, including a pack harness and some extra supplies for the group. (will send an email, Jan, letting you know exactly what was purchased) asking that the mule and supplies be delivered to the temple in care of Olyn. (paid extra for this service) then, Olyn heads to the catacombes.
after returning to the temple after his catacombes venture, and retrieving the mule and supplies, Olyn heads back to the apartment, puts the mule up for the night and readies the supplies, he goes to sleep, wakes up, prays for spells, loads the mule, and afer eating a hearty breakfast waits for the others to go.
Devlin Thursday November 6th, 2003 10:48:44 AM
Devlin has all he needs for the trip after making his way from Plateau City to Dirt City. His plan for the afternoon is to purchase his bedding for their apartment and then thoroughly test it out by getting some rest and clearing his head of its hangover. He will also procure another 7 days of rations, giving him two weeks worth today. Everything else he can carry in his backpack for the trip.
Zayne Thursday November 6th, 2003 12:47:41 PM
Zayne listens carefully then,"Rose I know you are trying to make sure we are all comfortable but,if things go wrong we might be too encumbered to get away. I know that area well I used to camp there every summer, for weeks at a time. There is game and plenty that can be foraged. Whats really important is that we are going to be two or three days away from any kind of help. I think buying one horse wouldn't hurt. A fast rider can cover that distance in a day or two at the most. We have to be careful and thats hard to do when you have a train of pack mules."
Looking araound at the party,"I don't care what Avenor says about just wanting us to find out what's out there. 4000 gold is a lot of money. There is something dangerous out there, and like my dad always said,"If it sounds too good to be true it is." I just think safety should be our primary concern." Thne realizing that he is angry,"I'm sorry, the hangover and everything thats been happening the last couple days has my nerves on edge thats all." Reaching into his belt ppouch he hands Rose 5gp here get what you think we need, I trust your judgement."
Turning to Devlin ,"Let's go get those beds now. Plus I think I might need another tankard or two,to help me think of anything else we might need."
Vorelle Thursday November 6th, 2003 8:39:49 PM
Vorelle hads Rose 5 gold for the party's expenses.
Then she goes to the market and replenishes her quiver and her healer's kit, and buys a nice warm winter blanket.
DM Jan Friday November 7th, 2003 1:33:20 AM
Burt tells Vauhwyt that just asking for Avenor at the Tower and showing a wolf ring, should do the trick. Preparation and shopping for various living and expedition items take up the rest of the day. Mules, provisions, clothing, a tent, food, and beds are bought. A little trading is done in the way of weaponry and magic.
Jeraldh, the group's landlord grins at mention of his boys. "They're champing at the bit. I haven't allowed them beyond the Keys Tower for the last week. Don't worry about anything you leave here. It will be safe. I won't ask where you're going - it's not the right etiquette, but be careful, wherever you're going."
Local knowledge will tell some of the group that if what they're about to do is REALLY important, then a politician like Jeraldh is already likely to have a least a little info on their task.
As the night draws in, maybe there is cause for the party to wonder. Has Avenor told them everything? Was this going to be a straight forward trip, or was Zayne right? There was certainly the potential for adventure, that was for sure. Sleep will come easily for some, but may flit like a bat, in and out of consciousness for others.
Morning arrives at the underground level of Dirt City, brought in with the lighting of the lamps and the sound of growing sewer corridor traffic.
Up top - it's so foggy, you can hardly see your hand in front of your face. But fog or no - its time to be going...
Dietrich d20+5=18 d20+4=7 d20+2=6 Friday November 7th, 2003 5:33:51 AM
After his daily routine (exercises, cold bath, food and maintenance of weapons, breakfast) Dietrich takes his equipment, quit the inn he has been sleeping, takes his own mule, put his backpack on it and goes to the meeting point. 'The new breast plate feels really good. It will be a pleasure to march with it.' he says to himself satisfied. (Fortitude test 18 for resistence for marching, cold etc.) Though he shares Zayneīs comments about danger (4000 gp is a real fortune) and heīd prefered to have more flexibility and speed too (therefore the horses) Dietrich is not very much concerned about the future. The group is tough, the mules are flexible and move as fast as a man and Domi and Wardd are with them! He strongly believes that there will be fights and almost expect an attack while marching. 'If the venture involves politics, whoever oposes the wolves in the dwarven enterprise will try to stop us.' Although he rationally conceives the danger, deep inside he welcomes a good fight.
When he meets the team: "Good morning everybody. What a wonderful foggy day to start an adventure!' He also gives 5 gp to Rose for the expenses. When the group begins marching he proposes again to have a group of scouts ahead the maingroup, in order to prevent traps. Finally, he tries to stay close to Devlin and start some conversation about their past and Devlinīs ideas for combat situations. He tries to observe the surroundings (spot 7, listen 6).
Devlin Friday November 7th, 2003 10:59:24 AM
Although feeling much better than he did yesterday after having slept off his hangover, the fog appears to have put a severe damper upon Devlin's mood this morning. He constantly fidgets with the comfort of his backpack as they set out and appears to be in no mood for conversation. He is lost deep within his own thoughts as they make their way out of Dirt City.
Olyn Friday November 7th, 2003 1:00:16 PM
upon reaching aboveground, Olyn holds on to the pack harness on the mule for support as he takes in the surroundings. realizing the fog is actually helping with his fear he straightens a little more.
brushing himself off in the hopes noone noticed his shaky legs, Olyn checks and rechecks the mule, to make sure everything is secured. once everyone is present he goes to each, handing them a potion saying: to all; each of you have in your possesion a cure light wounds potions, should you need it before i can get to you, by all means use it. but remember, only if i am unable to get to you. kinda like a last ditch effort. i purchased a couple extra potions and some healing scrolls as well and will use them when and if we need them. like my pappy used to say: better to burp and taste it than to toot and waste it.....oops, thats not the right saying. *thinking to himself for a second* then smiling, it's better to have too many peanuts cuz you can always make peanut butter.....that one aint it either. *thinking again* it's better to have too much help than be in a jam and not have enough. *big smile comes across his face as he seems pleased with that saying*
and then he turns, looks at the map, and starts heading towards the road that leads the group to their destination.
Theodore Friday November 7th, 2003 2:32:23 PM
Theodore rolls out of bed, giving his male friends a glimpse of just how skinny he is. His girth was comparable to the lighting poles the Knives used to keep the lanterns burning.
He dressed in his usual garb, crossed his legs, and spent the next hour pouring through his spellbook. Finally, he rose, ate some of the food he had bought, slung his gear on, and leaned on his new walking staff. For some reason, it made him look better. It suited him and he felt proper.
He smiled as he waited for the others to move out.
Zayne Friday November 7th, 2003 5:04:00 PM
Feeling much better today than yesterday he wakes up eager to be out on the road but wary about what the future holds in store for him and his friends.
After getting dressed and making sure his equipment is in good condition he heads for the kitchens,to grab a quik bite for the road.
After his breakfast he meets with the group and goes over supplies with Rose.
Rose Friday November 7th, 2003 5:13:56 PM
Rose gets up early in the morning and packs her stuff away in packsaddles. You get bread and cheese for breakfast because the pot is packed up :)
When the packsaddle is arranged on her mule you notice that there seems to be a flat area at the top with a piece of leather tied to it.
Rose hands the cure potion bact to olyn "Thank you Olyn, but I already have two of them." She then walks along holding the reins of the mule, after an hour or two you notice that she is falling behind her short little legs just cant seem to keep up.
Rose stops for a minute and then plays with the pack saddle, she unties the straps holding down the leather and then looks around and ask who ever is tallest to give her a hand up.
She is sitting with her back against a pack, and covered with the leather. The mule and packs are to big to get her legs around so she is sitting there with her legs out in front of her. She ties the leather back in place so she wont fall or get wet the starts the mule again.
Vauhwyt Saturday November 8th, 2003 8:16:09 AM
The liontaur sleeps well and in the morning is rested and ready to go. She slips off her wolf ring and pockets it. "I don't think we're likely to meet any friends of wolves on this trip," she says.
Highlight to display spoiler: {Vauhwyt spends a good half hour in the privvy before hitting the road. "HEY!" she shouts, "Can't a person have some privacy in herre!"}
Outside in the fog, Vauhwyt hands Vorelle the map. "You're better at this outdoor stuff than I am," she says. She takes Olyn's offered potion with a smile. "You are generous, my friend. If we end up using any of these, I think we should reimburse you out of our reward."
Since she is faster than most of the people in the group, Vauhwyt tends to range in front of and behind the group, scouting as Dietrich suggests.
Vorelle d20+5=12 d20+5=25 Saturday November 8th, 2003 12:19:28 PM
Outside the city walls, Vorelle is almost a different person. Her head is up, her face is actually visible, her shoulders are relaxed, and she moves with an easy, graceful stride. She still doesn't talk much, but she is visibly more at ease.
She keeps a sharp eye out for trouble, or for interesting tracks.
Spot 12, Survival 25 (natural 20)
rose Sunday November 9th, 2003 12:47:26 PM
after an hour or so of riding rose pulls her donkey up beside one of the others and does something, you dont really see what. a bit later you realize that she fastened the reins to the other's saddle and rose is now laying asleep on her donkey with the straps keeping her from falling off :)
