OOC:I hope this helps. If not let me know and I will get someone to draw me a map or show me how to.
The courtyard you all stand in is a long rectangle with a huge double wooden gate, 40 foot tall, on the west end. The north end appears to be a solid granite wall that stretches 50 feet up with no visible hand or foot holds for climbing. The north wall from east to west runs for 100 feet where is intercepts the west wall that is also 50 feet high with no visible hand or foot holds. The west and east walls are identical with the exception of the gate on the east wall that is 10 feet shorter than the rest of the wall, both walls are 40 feet long.. On these 3 walls every 10 feet is a torch hanging on the wall. The back wall is actually 2 towers connected by a 40 feet high wall that connects them both, this wall contains a large opening with a ramp leading down,this is where Treena emerged during the fight. The wagon that most of you arrived in is 60 feet from the double gate beside it, on the left, Treesa is crouched with Birdie guarding her, during the course of the fight neither she nor Birdie have moved. 10 foot from Treesa is Mira. Mira is facing towards the gate with Dexter and the 2 body guards 10 feet in front of her and Arm is 5 feet from her on the left his arm around Treena has he prepares to decpitate her. Kadaz is directly across from the gates on the west wall with the wagon directly behind him. He is 8 feet from Mira on her right and is closed with Bodyguard1. Shakka is standing 8 feet from Kadaz on Kadaz's right with Conner standing on his right falnk they both are attacking Bodyguard2. The 2 Bodyguards are 10 feet apart with Xandar almost between the 2 as he attacks Dexter who is 5 feet from either bodyguard and 10 feet or more from party members already listed. Uriel is attacking Bodyguard2 from the flanks cutting off any possible retreat to the northwest corner. Evan is directly opposite Arm striking down on Treena. Nobody stands near or infront of the gates which currently are closed. Every corner is covered by one or more party members with the exception of the southwest corner and most of the south wall.
Mira's arcane words roll off of her tounge and a brief blueish light encompasses Treesa but nothing seems to radiate magic from the silent sister. Mira turns looking at the moon and at Treena knowing that a werebeast will very quickly appear. Arm and Evan both strike down but Treena's skin as already hardened and the blows seem to land but do no real damage as the ropes on Treena grow more and more slack the form of a fox unmistakable intertwined with hers. Uriel swings and notices that the bodyguard hesistates before attacking Dexter again, and notices the blood driping down one side. BodyGuard1 misses Dexter both times swinging and nearly dropping his dagger on his last attack. BodyGuard2 lands a solid blow on Dexter but the sand causes him to stumble slightly doing minimal damage. Conner and Shakka are both shaken by the call of werebeast the result of which is both fighter and monk miss completely as they attack. Dexter reela back again towards the gate almost as if thats where he wants to go but the cry of werebeast pulls the man up short and he smiles grimly and advances back into the fight.

Uriel finally hears that something besides the fight in front of him is going on {Spot 17}, but has his sights set on Dexter.
"Find your backbone, miscreant?" "So, much the better. By the grace of Domi, I will smite you down!" {Hit AC 25, DMG:14 using my smite evil on Dexter}.

The half-elf continues his relentless attack on Dexter, completely bent on putting the elven villian to the ground (AC=18, DMG=10). Nothing makes sense to Xandar right now, except making Dexter feel the brunt of his fury. "Arrsschggwweeaa!!!", shouts Xandar nonsensically, as if only making noise to further convey his utter rage.

Evan drops to his knees next to the creature and grabs at the ever slackening rope. He makes a couple of loops in the slack and attempts to drop them over the fox-woman's neck. If successful, he will immediately pull the rope as tight as he can, placing his knee against the creature's back for added leverage.

Mira moves to crouch beside the newcomer and helps him fasten the silk rope against the shrinking Treena (Use Rope=31*). "Normal weapons will not work against the shapechanger. Either kill her with silver or tie her up and lock her in the wagon where she can not harm us " advises the sorcerer. As an afterthought, "if we can get her to Calfinius, he, or his bretheren may be able to reverse the curse." As she works beside the quiet blonde haired man, she mutters, "careful that she does not scratch or bite you."

Conner sees Mira, Arm and the newcomer tying up Treena or whatever she has become and turns his attention to Dexter and the bodyguards. If he can easily and safely move into a flanking position on Dexter he will, otherwise he will continue to pursue his attack on Bodyguard #2. Conner follows his slashing longsword with a swift and powerful thrust of his spiked shield [Hit AC20 and 17, (22 and 19 if flanking Dexter) for 8 and 6 HP respectively].

"Finish them!" calls out the fighter as he swings.

Kadaz glances around the courtyard and decides that the greatest immediate threat comes from Dexter. He advances on Dexter and joins in with the former bodyguards in striking. However Kadaz strikes at Dexter's sword in an attempt to disarm him (to hit 21).

Evan, Arm , and Mira attempt to tie Treena with Mira's silk rope and succeed until the Werbeast not recognizable as a Werefox somehow manges to free itself<Escape Artist DC 29 Nat 20>. The fearsome beast looks first at Mira and actually seems to smile in its hybrid form before she pounces up and away landing on BodyGuard1 snarling and growling the werefox quickly buries her fangs into the guards face and her claws into his abodmen<Hit AC 22,27,24,for 12,15,9 damage> dropping the bodyguard in his steps, his sword and dagger slipping from his now dead fingers. Uriel intent on Dexter slices at the half elf just as Xandar does spoiling Xandars aim, however as Uriel uses his smite he notices that Dexter recoils from the paladins strike as though a burst of electricity went right through him. Conner realizing that he cannot flank Dexter presses his attack on the last bodyguard hitting the the man in his dagger wielding hand causing the man to flinch and drop his weapon. Kadaz attempts to disarm Dexter's weapon however something strange happens<Sense Motive check DC 18>.

Arm says to Mira, "It's up to you, my dear. I cannot fascinate her with a song with the other fighting going on nearby, so I cannot be of any further help to you regarding her. However....".

In the swirl of combat Kadaz is hard pressed to keep up with who is attacking who. And just who around here actually needs defending? Kadaz steps back, out of the fray, more than willing to let the beast attack.

Kadaz's last stroke seemed to have been sound but missed anyways. He stares at Dexter trying to determine what exactly about him is making Kadaz uneasy at the moment (other than being wounded, sudden appearance of a werebeast, bodyguards turning on their master, and fighting next to a guard barracks with no guards appearing). This is one odd evening. (sense motive 20).

Uriel's face reflects both a smirk and a grimace thinking - Dexter is much stronger then I have been led to believe. "You will yield foul elf, or you will fall." Without waiting for a reply, Uriel swings at Dexter again.

Xandar swings again at Dexter but fails to connect (TO HIT=11). His intended target is a formidable one, as he expected. Regardless, he continues on, like a rabid dog bent on inflicting pain on its prey.

Treena in hybrid werefox form is fearsome as she stands onthe corpse of the first bodyguard. The second bodyguard literaly stops in mid-swordstroke and gaps at the beast, snaps his fingers and disapears shouting, "You too Dexter will fall, I will have this guild and you will be less than a memory!" Kadaz striking out at Dexters weapon realizes that there is no weapon there that his flail should have hit but instead went through the illusion of a weapon. Shakka and Arm line up with Kadaz and prepare to assault Dexter with Uriel, and Conner flanking the half elf, however the werefox lunges towards the preparing forces causing them to take an unwilling step back, as she howls mornfully up at the moon. The werefox turns and and slaps Xandar from Dexter,<Hit AC 30 Nat 20, no Crit nat 1 damage 9> knocking the cleric to the ground and stepping over him to face Dexter. Much to the surprise of the group Treena doesn't stop but atacks te man attempting to to rake her claws across his face,<Hit AC 27, 13 Damage> and then attempting to use the elf's arm as a chew toy <Miss AC 19>, the claws causing dexter to cry out in pain unlike anything you have heard this evening. Uriel notices that unlike most attacks with the exception of his smite evil that these cause the man to stumble and nearly fall. All who make a sense motive check DC 15 or better know that without a doubt they both have been hiding something, Treena's secret is now out but Dexter's is still hidden.

OOC Conner, Mira, Evan you all can double post. I will try to post only in the morning's from here on out to give you an entire day in which to post. I live in Texas which is CST and should have a post up no later than 9 CST.

Conner steps back when the werebeast turns at them, and slowly it dawns on him that Dexter is not a simple rogue or warrior [Sense Motive=17].

"What powers has this elf to withstand the severity of his wounds...and to create illusions? Perhaps the wounds themselves are illusions...yet the bite of a werebeast and the blow from the newcomer did seem to cause pain..." the confused fighter mulls over these thoughts and his confusion grows...

"Truth be told now elf, or we leave you to this creature and your plight!" Conner shouts to Dexter.

Evan rises quickly as the fox slips away from the ropes. Before the woman next to him, the one who has been giving him advice about the creature, can slip away, Evan grips her by the forearm. He gazes into her eyes to make sure she is paying attetion to him (wonders briefly what the funny discs are for). He points at the raging creature. He holds up two fingers, tapping them together, points at the woman being guarded by the dog, waves his hand in front of his face, holds up two fingers again then points at the woman being guarded by the dog. Fervently, he hopes the pretty woman understands what he is trying to tell her.

The hair on the back of the sorcerer's neck stands on end when the werefox that was once Treena appears to smile at her, exposing it's needle-like teeth. Standing with the knotted silk rope hanging limply in her hands, she stares open-mouthed racking her brains for any knowledge that would help her find the creature's vulnerability. (Knowledge Arcana=24)

In a panic Mira screams out to her party, "Get away from her! Do not let her bite you!" in hopes that her message will get through to them in their battle crazed state.

Intent on fleeing, Mira casts about for a way out (Spot=21) when she suddenly feels someone grab her arm. Trying to suppress her panic she watches the gesticulations of the young man in front of her. "I don't know what you're trying to say!" she cries out as she starts to back away from the whole disastrous mess. Training an eye on the odd couple in a life or death grapple, she senses something is more than it seems (Sense Motive=16).

"Conner, Arm, you all, we can not win against this magic!" the sorcerer calls out.

When he comes to, Xandar finds himself on the dusty floor of the courtyard. From what he could remember, he was attacking Dexter with all that he had when something smashed into him, sending him off into the air. The aftermath of this encounter leaves Xandar grasping onto his very life.

The half-elf struggles to get unto his feet, using his warhammer as a cane in the process. After he was erect, Xandar looks around and scans the area for Treesa. "What evil looms over such an innocent girl...", he utters under his breath. Looking to the sky, Xandar calls upon Domi's benevolence and casts a spell over himself (Concentration=22, Cure Light Wounds=4). White light starts to envelope Xandar's body...

Evan sighs with frustration and releases the pretty woman's arm. In her panic, she could end up hurting him or herself. He drops into a crouch, fishing some coins from his pocket as he does so. With a flick of his fingers, he brings his remaining throwing dagger into his hand.

With these words echoing in his head Either kill her with silver or tie her up and lock her in the wagon where she can not harm us , Evan places a silver coin against a hard rock. With a sharp rap, Evan attempts to either bend the coin in half or cut it in half. He shrugs his crossbow off of his back and pulls a quarrel from the quiver. He jerks sharply on a thread hanging from his tunic (threads are always straying about on his tunic), pulling loose a long thread. He attmepts to fasten the silver to the tip of the quarrel, using the string to hold it in place.

(I wasn't sure what skill to use so I made an intell check- DC6 and a dex check- DC15}

Treena's full transformation, the realization that Dexter is more than he seems, and the sudden disappearance of the remaining bodyguard makes Kadaz very sure that they are in deep waters. "Dexter's not carrying a weapon, it's an illusion somehow" Kadaz shouts to the rest of the party. "What else is not what it seems?" Kadaz stands in a defensive posture, willing to let Treena and Dexter fight it out and hopefully weaken each other.

Uriel seeing the ferocity of the attack of the vulputhrope (werefox) and hearing the warning of one of other adventurers decides his course of action. He senses motive to try and understand what is going on with Dexter {Natural 20! 22 is the roll}. "Head for the gate, enemy of my enemy, we have not the requisite number of weapons to dispatch our foe today. If they move towards us, I will smite them with the force of Domi again." With that I will sheath my longsword and draw the greatsword from my back. {Bluff roll Natural 20 again - I don't deserve this! for a 22}. Uriel then waits for the group to move behind him and to the gate and will step backwards slowly assuming this is how it plays out.

Farewell, cur!". He then retreats behind Uriel and scans the area near the gate for any other "surprises". (spot=18)

"I did this for you, for us! Calm down and we can fix this together, you and I," Dexter whispers to the werefox to no avail as she snaps at him again.<AC 16 Miss> Birdie steadfastly guarding Treesa the entire time gently bites the young girls sleeve and pulls her around the wagon towards the gate and away from Dexter and her sister. As those looking scan the area they notice no other surprises, howevr hearing Kadaz's words about a possible illusion all group members take one last look at Dexter<Will DC 13> to see if anything is there to back up the bards claim. Xandar wearily stands and casts his spell feeling the healing light of Domi spread through him the cleric realizes how close he came to seeing his god, up close. Evan manages to tie the silver piece to the tip of a bolt with his piece of thread<-2 to attack with that bolt>.

Kadaz sees Birdie trying to get Treesa out of here. "Dog has more sense then the rest of us put together."

Kadaz has no great desire to face the werefox or Dexter and the rest of the party seems to be of the same opinion. "I think it's time to get out of here" Kadaz remarks to those near him. He moves delibrately towards Treesa and Birdie, facing the fighing as he does so and ready to react if anyone should threaten the girl or dog. As he does so he keeps scrutinizing the battle, trying to gain more insight into what exactly is going on. (will check 19).

After recovering a bit from his injuries, Xandar looks at the two villians who were at each others' throats (WILL=22). He still does not know where the lycanthrope grappling Dexter came from, nor does he know that it was the same beast that caused him to fly through the air.

He looks around and sees everyone backing away from the fight. He understands the strategic importance of this and decides to follow. As he approaches the group gathered near the gate, he asks, "Is anyone hurt? Does anyone need any healing? Treesa, are you alright?" His bestial rage has completely disappeared, leaving only the cultured and soft-spoken Xandar that is known by many.

Arm once again looks toward Dexter to confirm his suspicions (will=11), but apparently they will remain just that, suspicions, as he sees nothing to confirm his prior claims.

Glancing back toward the high gates, he says to the group, "I sincerely hope one of you has a rope in case these gates are locked.".

Evan levers back the cord on his crossbow and carefully loads the silver tipped quarrel. He slowly rises and silently moves towards the panicing woman, slipping between her and the battle between Dexter and the funky fox-creature. He keeps an intent eye on the fight, waiting for everyone to retreat towards the gate. As they move, so to will he, but maintaining a position between the fox-creature and the rest of the party.

The shouted words of illusions cause Evan to study more intently the two combatants to see if there is any truth in the claim. He will also take a glance at the other twin, to make sure there is no fakery.

Seeing nothing out of place, Evan slowly backs towards the gate. If the fox should move towards any member of the party, he will fire, praying silently to Domi to guide his shot.

"I have a rope" she says holding up the silk rope that previously was looped around Treena, "but first lets see if anyone here can open the gate?"

Conner stays by the young man with the crossbow as a rear guard and wonders about the illusion [Will=7]. "You and I will cover the retreat. I'm Conner." he whispers to the newcomer. Conner will fight defensively if the werebeast attacks them. [Held action, Hit AC=4, effective AC=19].

He still wonders about Dexter and his true motives. "There are better ways to die " he thinks to himself.

Uriel will continue to ward the retreat of the group. "If the gate cannor be opened, there is no need to secure another rope - we came over the wall on one, it is there along the wall." With a quick jerk of his head, Uriel points to the wall to indicate the rope. {Held Action Hit AC 23 DMG 15}. While waiting, Uriel will also take another glance for illusions or other trickery. {Will=4 uh-yeah, anyway}

Arm suddenly brightens and says to the group, "How did this escape me? If we are INSIDE, then the gates should be easy to breach, should they not?....unless, that is, they require a key that we don't possess. By the way, welcome to our new allies. My name is Armathen Ebano, but you may call me Arm. I suggest we save further introductions, stories, and explanations for a safer time, however.".

ooc Sorry I didnt copy over the last part of yesterdays post, so I will modify it and post it here.

The werefox turns and snarls at the party snapping at Conner Treena misses with her bite spittle ending up on the former soldiers' chest. The werefox slaps out with her left paw attemping to knock Kadaz down the sameway that she moved Xandar but misses completely causing her to howl out in frustration. Birdie continues to pull Treesa towards the gate the young girl shellshocked by the events of tonight mutly follows the path of the dog. Treena in frustration slaps out again at Conner causing Evan to fire his jerry-rigged bolt at the werebeast causing her to roar in pain but not throwing her aim off as she catches Conner along his right arm and side the attack spinning the warrior towards the wagon<AC 17 Dmg 9> The werefox howling with joy turns on Dexter who is attempting to slid quietly away from her and attacks her bethrothed< AC 28, Dmg 10>. Those who make their will save finally notice what Dexter's secret is, underneath the filmy, now transparent image of Dexter floats a creature mostly described to you in books and stories, a floating multieyed creature who is feared by most wise enough to accept fear, a beholder stands before you and the last attack by the werebeast seems to have finally raised the ire of the creature. Conner and Uriel both strike out at the creature but neither seem to faze her in her attack on Conner.

As long as no one falls, Uriel will continue to ward against attack by Dexter or Treena, and move towards the gate. Any attacks on anyone within reach of his greatsword will cause Uriel to attack. {Held Action Hit: 17 DMG 9}
If someone falls to the ground then Uriel will sheath the sword and try to fireman's carry them out.

Before Evan can acknowledge Conner's greeting, the fox-creature strikes out at Conner, causing Evan to fire the rigged quarrel. The shot strikes true, however the quarrel just seems to enrage the creature further. Evan slings the crossbow across his back and slips his throwing axe back into his hand. He doesn't know what good the axe will do, but it makes him feel safer.

He darts forward to catch Conner as he falls away from the fox-creature. He motions Uriel back, gesturing towards the creature. The paladin will be much more capable to deal with the creature than Evan is and as Conner seems to be bleeding rather severely along the arm, Evan decides its time to get Conner to a temple. Evan props a shoulder under Conner and guides him towards the gate, hoping someone will get it open before Conner dies.

Xandar smiles at Arm, "Thank you, friend. I appreciate it." He takes a rope outside of his backpack and attaches a grappling hook onto one end of it. He lays down his rope and tosses it over his head, hoping the grappling hook will latch onto something to help them escape (DC=6). The grapplin hook misses though and falls back to the ground, almost hitting the half-elf on the head.

Xandar shakes his head slightly and quickly picks up the grappling hook for another try. His vision of Dexter's true form unnerves him, prompting him to hurry even more...if anything, for the safety of everyone in the party.

The now obvious werefox and beholder circle each other warily as the party manages to slip away to the gate unobserved. Treesa slips easily into kadaz's grasp sobing uncontrolably,"I..I..I..d..d..did..didnt..k..kno..know that .." the words taper off as Treesa cries become more severe again. Shakka begins to scamber up the rope easliy until he notices that the left gate is open slightly and may be able to be slid open. Evan pauses, supporting Conner while someone arranges for a way out of this place. He reaches up and tugs the leather thong loose from his ponytail and wraps it around Conner's upper arm above the start of the scratch. "careful that she does not scratch or bite you." echos in his mind. The pretty sorceress seemed to think that the fox-creature could harm you through just a scratch. Perhaps its claws are poisoned.

After wrapping the thong tightly around Conner's arm, Evan places the throwing axe long conner's arm as well, making sure the edge does not cut Conner. He ties the thong around the handle of the axe and begins to turn in an attempt to stop the flow of blood and hopefully to stop the spread of any type of poison through Conner's system.

As Xandar makes haste to follow the others outside the courtyard, spies several guards hanging around the courtyard (SPOT=17). To his amazement, they were the same guards that put his party under lock and key. His curiosity gets that better of him as he tries to evesdrop on their conversation (LISTEN=20, 21).

After having heard what the guards were saying to each other, the half-elf will return to his own activities and follow the rest out of the courtyard.

Xandar notices as he passes out the gate not the standing guards but rather their bodies crumpled on the ground beaten and bloody, and that the Beholder and Werefox have vanished. As the party each strain against the sounds of the cith they can hear the sounds of boots rushing up the incline to the courtyard to return to custody the escapees. Uriel and Shakka manage to slid the gate shut and lodge the shovel and staff in the handles just as Xandar hears the night watch returning to the compound by the lowness of the sound they are only blocks away to the north the very direction of Calfinius' temple.

Evan and Ariel canter up next to Arm and Mira. For some reason, the sturdy mountain horse is making less noise than one would think a horse should be making when cantering on cooble stones. A quick glance down reveals leather bags tied to each hoof.

Evan motions for Arm to catch up with the others as he and Ariel come alongside Mira. He kicks a foot free of the stirrup on the side facing Mira, causing Ariel to change her gait slightly to compensate. Evan holds down a hand to Mira.

If Mira takes Evan's hand, he will lift her high enough for her to attempt to get a foot into the stirrup so that she can mount behind him. If Mira fails to get her foot into the stirrup, Evan will drape her across the saddle in front of him. Once Mira is on board, they will head for the Temple of Domi as quickly and quietly as possible, circling around through alleys to come up on the temple from a direction other than the jail. Along the way, Evan will stop long enough to remove the muffling from Ariel's hooves and reseat Mira in such a way that she can ride safely and comfortably.

If Mira does not take Evan's hand, he and Ariel will remain between her and any pursuit that may be following.

After closer examination, what Xandar thought to be two conversing guards were actually corpses sprawled out on the floor. Furthermore, the noise that he thought were whispers being exchanged among the guards were actually footsteps. Realizing this, Xandar hurries off and catches up with the rest of the party. "We must hurry, guards coming from the north are on their way here. We can't go to the Temple of Alemni unless we make a detour around the city", Xandar says in a huff.

For the first time in the night, he notices two new people in their company. He furrows his brow in confusion and as says in as polite a manner as a man in a hurry can, "By the way, I am Xandar. Pleased to meet the two of you."

He then turns to Mira and asks, "Where are we headed to?"

The sorcerer does her best to keep up with the group. When Evan offers her a ride, Mira mouths a wordless "thanks" to Arm, before reaching out to grab Evan's hand. She jumps up (Jump=5)trying to get her foot in the empty stirrup, but looses her balance. As Evan lifts her up, she scrambles (Climb=16) over and in front of him. Draped over the saddle in front of the rider, Mira fights not to fall off (Balance=14) too busy to worry about her ignoble appearance.

Mira mumbles something about "avoiding North" and "alleys" but her voice is muffled.

As the group heads away from the courtyard of Constabulary Castle<Merchant Quarter Map # 32> it become evident that the alarm as been raised and there will be no straight shot to anywhere. As you pass across Market street to gather in the shadows of the shops and buildings opposite Constabulary Castle you realize that the night watch seems to be doubling or possibly tripling the amount of men on the streets. Treesa looks around the party as they begin their quiet run, "The Cathedral of Light is west of here towards the Wealthy Quarter. There lies Alemi's Temple and Califinus," the now broken seer says with a soft whisper. "I fear that Dexter and my sister will not long let us go and the city guard thinks heaven knows what." As Treesa pause a loud voice,"Who goes there? Speak up now who goes there?"

OOC: There is no Temple of Domi in the city. Domi has shrines but no temples after the year of Accension.

"They'll stop us before we get to the cathedral, all routes are guarded. We must find alternate shelter. Anybody know of an inn near here that would allow us in? Or other sort of shelter. Again, Kadaz desprately searches his mind for anything appropriate. (knowledge check 2) but is so flustered by recent events, and being chased by his fellow guard, that his mind goes blank and he simply stares at the ground. Absent mindedly he pulls a doggie treat out of his belt pouch and gives it to Birdie.

Evan nudges Ariel over towards Uriel, nodding to everyone as he is introduced. He cliches Ariel's sides tight with his knees and drops the reins, trusting in the building repore between himself and his companion. Evan slides his arms under Mira and lifts her, rolling her up his arms so that he can swing her around so that she is seated properly in front of him. Once this is done, he recovers the reins.

Evan gives a soft whistle to get Uriel's attention. When Uriel looks up at him, Evan taps himself, then shoots his hand out towards the voices calling to them. Then Evan makes a gesture towards the rest of the party. He holds his hand out with his fingers wide spread and makes flicking motions with the tips of his fingers.

Evan waits to see if anyone understood him before implementing his plan.

Xandar racks his brain as he thinks of an alternate route toward the Temple of Alemni (CHECK=15). If he is successful, he will tell the others of this and lead the party to Calfinius. If he isn't, he will continue to follow the rest of the party to wherever they might lead him.

As he thinks, he hears a voice from the shadows. Squinting his eyes, he tries to see, through the darkness, the person who shouted to him and his party (SPOT=18). The half-elf bites his lip and hides his warhammer behind his shield.

Not seeing Evan's command he slowly approaches the shadowy figure and says in a polite manner, "We are travellers from afar and seek some shelter for the night..."

Mira is grateful for Evan's help in righting herself on the sturdy horse. She tries to keep her balance as she moves her pack from her back to her front. As she threads the loops over her shoulders she very nearly falls off the horse (Balance=9). The sorcerer quickly laces her fingers in the horses mane to keep from falling off.

While the group hastely confers about the best route of escape, she volunteers, "I know a hideout, but it is twice as far away as the temple, and in the opposite direction. Maybe it can be our safe-house, if we are still wanted after this...?" The woman lets her voice trail off as she remembers the hovel located where Nightmare Quarter meets the Rogue Quarter,... her inheritance.

Evan adjusts his grip on the reins and uses his arms to urge Mira to lean back firmly against him. If he and Ariel have to make a sudden move, he doesn't want Mira to unbalance and knock both of them off of Ariel.

Evan sees that the dark skinned guy and one of the half-elves are still bolting down the street. The other half-elf is approaching the guard. Uriel and the others are still trying to decide a course. Evan gives a sharp whistle to get everyone's attention and emphaticly points in the direction Conner seems to be leaning towards. Instead of trying to keep together as a group, why won't these people just scatter??
If they stay together, the whole group could be recaptured.

I promise to protect you. And who will think of looking for you there? At any rate, we must start moving now. Standing still is a bad plan."

Kadaz speaks up a little louder. "Everyone scatter. Meet at midmorning at Alemi's Temple." With that he motions for Treesa to follow and starts moving away from the group. He moves purposefully, with Birdie at his feet.

Evan nods sharply in agreement. He pulls sharply on the reins and with a stiff nudge to the ribs, sends Ariel bolting off at angles to the dwarf and the half-elf approaching the guards. He holds Mira protectively in the circle of his arms as he guides Ariel in a zig zag pattern through the alleys until he has put considerable distance between himself and any possible pursuit.

Once Evan feels comfortable with the distance they have traveled, he stops Ariel and dismounts. He takes a quick look around to make certain they are not being pursued. When MIra starts to move, Evan motions for her to remain still, placing his hand upon her leg to hold her in place. He listens carefully to the sounds of the city but hears nothing to cause him any alarm. He gives Ariel a quick going over, holding Mira still with a glance.

After he is satisfied with Ariel's condition, Evan reaches up and grasps Mira around the waist to help her dismount. He sets her down and begins gesturing. He points at Mira, then puts his hands together and lays his head against them as if in sleep. He raises his head and points in several directions. He then raises an eyebrow inquisitively.

The sorcerer doesn't like the idea of the group separating. Who knows if we will ever truly join up again? she thinks. The dwarf was quite clear in his instructions however, the Temple of Alemi by mid-morning. At least those who evade capture could make the rendez-vous. Those who are less successful, well, we will have to search them out, and the gods willing, rescue them.

Before the ranger goads his horse to action, Mira calls out, "In groups of two! At least stay in groups of two!"

When Evan suggests they find a place to sleep, the sorcerer says, "I know a taven called the Giggling Ghost. I think I need a nightcap!"

The guard are now methodically searching the street and are ten buildings up the street closing towards you.

Kadaz supports Treesa in surprisingly tender arms. "Hush lass, you spoke in a voice not your own and said to stick together." Treesa reminds him more and more of a small puppy, unable to defend itself against larger siblings, and bewildered at the harsh treatment.

"I think we should follow this advice and stay together this night. But to stay here is to be found. Shall we keep moving away from those searchers?" Kadaz asks while nodding towards the oncoming guards. "I cannot in good conscience fight those doing their lawful job."

"I shall go with the both of you," Xandar says to both Kadaz and Treesa. "I need to make sure that Treesa is safe. She is my responsibility until I get her back to Calfinius safely..." Xandar pauses and looks over the dwarf and the young seer.

Xandar shakes his head slightly, and realizes how much Kadaz has grown attached to Treesa and smiles to himself. "Master dwarf, I would be honored if you would let me join you in your endeavor to protect our young charge. Can I go with the two of you?"

When she hears the strange voice emanating from the young seer, Mira tries to jump off Evan's horse, only to fall flat on the cobblestones and get the breath knocked out of her. Then addressing the group that is starting to re-form, "I do not fancy going back inside either, but it may be our only way."

The strange voice coming from the twin sister of the fox-creature startles Evan but not nearly as much as the Sorceress' inelegant dismount. Evan drops to the ground next to Mira and helps her to her feet, ignoring any embarrassment she may display. He carefully checks over her hands, the weapons of a spell slinger, for injury and brushes away the tiny embedded stones in the palms of her hands. He cannot help but marvel at the slenderness and beauty of Mira's hands.

Evan offers Mira a smile when she attempts to apologize to him, a smile that turns to a frown at her next words. If the others are correct, the last place Evan wants to return to is the jail. He has no desire to confront the Beholder creature again. But he will go where the others go if for no other reason than they could certainly use another strong arm.

The party stands bewildered for a moment at the young seer, the realizes that th ewatch being methodical as most are have started at the far end of the street and have left the back end towards Riverside road open and possible the back side of the castle Merchant Square as well. The officer in charge seems to have been distracted for a moment by a vagrant sleeping in a doorway. At the moment both avenues are open, but time is fleeting and the watch proceds ever closer they are now eight buildings away, if they proceed closer than 5 buildings away you all need to roll a Hide check DC 15.

Xandar tries one last time to remember an alternative route toward the Temple of Alemni, but without success (DC=5). He hits his head in frustration and decides to follow Kadaz and Treesa to wherever they might go.

Unfortunately, as he walked, his armor clanked, giving away his position under the darkened sky (DC=9). He stops instantly after realizing what has happened and whispers, "Go on now. Protect Treesa, Kadaz. Protect her until your last breathe"

Xandar gets to the back of the group and raises his weapon in the air, ready to draw the guards to him if they even heard his noisy armor, and serve as a decoy for the others. If no guards noticed, he will take a second or two to make sure and then travel behind everyone in the party.

Conner is initially startled by the voice from within Treesa, but quickly regains his composure, for it is surely less startling than the multi-eyed creature they had already encountered that night.

The group, including Xandar, silently move away from the approaching guard the noises of clinking armor, sergeants issuing orders, and the normal city sounds manage to mask the sounds of the party moving away from the searching guard and towards Sword Street. As the group approaches the dim torchlit intersection,<Listen DC 15 to hear approaching footsteps, Spot DC 18 to notice guard uniforms heading up from Riverside Road towards Merchant Square along Sword Street> you hear the sergeant back up the street order the vagrant to be take to the Cathederal of Light and the search resumed.

After neither seeing nor hearing anything, he looks to Arm and whispers, "We have the best eyes and ears in the party, can you see or hear anything that can help us get out of this rut?"

Leading Ariel queitly through the streets, Evan follows those who know the city better. He keeps a hand on Ariel's nose to keep her from whinnying greetings to any horses the party may pass. He holds the flank closest to Mira secure, ready to run interference should any guards stumble upon them.

At the intersection, Evan listens and searches for any trouble. Upon hearing the heavy tread of many feet coming down the road, Evan places a hand lightly on Mira's arm to gain her attention. He stands up very straight and makes an exaggerated marching movement then points in the direction he heard the noise come from.

The way across the intersection is clear at least for now and the way towards Merchant Square also appears to be clear. One thing is certain you have to keep moving which way do you go?

Evan follows Mira, pausing when she stumbles on the bottles. He moves up next to her and intercepts her hand before she can make anymore noise. He places her hand in the crook of his arm and holds it there for a minute. Then he points to himself, points to his eyes, motions to the area around them. Then he points at Mira, points at her eyes then points at her feet.

Evan guides Mira and Ariel forward, moving silently as possible. He continues to scan the area around him, seeking a bolthole or escape path. He also listens carefully for any sign of pursuit.

The party leaps into action heading for the nearest alley. Treesa is begining to be less comatose but her additional weight is evident in slowing Kadaz down. It appears you have bought yourselves a few moments respite as none of the guard spotted nor heard you.

With each sound emitted by the party he wonders how much longer they will escape the notice of the city guard. Surely they heard that! he thinks and pauses to listen for the sound of an alarm being raised or the footsteps of an inquisitive guard[Listen=20].

"We shouldn't use light just yet. Let's get a few more streets between us and the guards," Xandar softly says to Mira. The half-elf scans the area to make sure that they are not being followed (SPOT=21, LISTEN=22). After having done so, he raises his right arm and wipes away sweat that has started to trickle down on his forehead.

He notices that Treesa is now being carried by both Kadaz and the new person he has come to know as Uriel. He smiles to himself, and continues on toward the Temple of Light.

Xandar will continue to travel with the group.

The group moves with its usual grace through the night the tightness of the alley causing additional shadows to fall and conceal you all. The alley ends abrubtly as you stand in a dim torchlit intersection with Market Street again on your left and the street running to Riverside Road going to your right. Kadaz takes the reins and looks up at the horse with a quizzical look. OK, just treat this thing like a big dog. I can do that, he thinks to himself. But should he try to boost Treesa up onto this horse? He looks at Treesa and thinks that she'll just have a further distance to fall from on top the horse.

Kadaz looks around quckly and recongizes the back of Constabulary Castle. He thinks longingly of his armor and axe, hung beside his bunk there.

Kadaz turns town the alley and heads towards Riverside Road with Treesa on one arm, and leading the horse with the other (handle animal 12).

Uriel, Xandar and Conner all hearing the continuing advancement of the guard behind them urge their comrades on. Tressa begining to realize that she had a vision is starting to moce easier on her own and the weight is lessened on Kadaz. The party continues down the alley the torchlight allowing for fairly fast and quiet passage as they proceed down towards Riverside Road. Just as they pass by a rather unassuming shop the door flies open and a frazzled young gnome appears at the opening,"Here in here quick!" the male voice gasps out, "Now hurry! HURRY!" The gnome looks quickly right and left and disappears into the darkness of the building.

Kadaz enters the darkened building first, his eyes and ears prying against the darkness until a sliver of light extends to him. "You all must come quic.." the words cut off, "OH bother!" the gnome mutters as he swiftly stalks past Kadaz to the alley,"In now you have, a horse? a horse? A horse of all things?!" The gnome pulls a well worn leather strap from his pocket and attaches it to the bridle of Evans horse, lays his hand upon it and then mutters quietly to himself, "You, boy! Take this quickly," The gnome hands Evan a 2 inch leather strip and folds Evans hand around it,"Don't lose it. I will explain later." As Evan accepts the strip his horse shimmers, almost like the light fold around his body and becomes strangly quiet, no longer seen, smelled nor heard. The party follows the tiney gnome into the building and not a minute too soon as the sounds of approaching feet signal the arrival of the searching guard. "Shhhh," the gname whispers as he leads the group to a very dimly lit room,"Catch your breath, those mindless golems won't bother you for a few more minutes."
There are no traps eveident. Conner gets the feeling that the gnome is genuine in his desire to help however his help is not for altruistic means.

Evan stands for a moment, staring at the spot where his horse was. His hand grips the leather strip tightly so as to not lose it. The sound of the approaching guard catches Evan's attention and he quickly follows the others into the gnome's house.

Evan finds a nice empty corner to settle down in. He kneels down and quietly studies the leather strip to see if there is any evident magic about the strip. He listens for the approaching guard and keeps a hand on his sword hilt, just in case.

"Its not important who I am or what I am doing," the ill tempered gnome snarls in a whispered tone,"I am my own gnome and what I do and why are no concern of yours. However since you press the issue this is my way of returning a favor." The gnome turns away from the group and faces the door,"Now shush or I will let them get you." With that the gnome outstrecehes his hand and the wall with the door seems to shimmer and be covered with a bluish light. Much to your surprise you see the alley you just left swarming with members of the guard as they poke through trash bins, turn over boxes and bales. The guard methodically search every inch of the alley except as Evan particularly notices the spot where his horse is, or was standing. Every time a member of he guard walks near that spot they seem to find a reason to look elsewhere. Xandar taking in the room notices that it is sparsely furnished, dust coves every inch of the floor and the one or two items of furniture that are still standing. "Be still," the gnome hisses as he watches the guard move on past the building front,"One more minute and you may leave." Kadaz finds Treesa standing behind him and Birdie faithfully guarding her.

Arm grimaces at the gnome's abrasive response, and rests his hand on the pommel of his sword, ready to draw it at a moment's notice. Once again, he scans the room for trouble (spot=4, listen=19).

The impressive display of magic awes Kadaz into silence. It also makes him wonder just how much else is kept hidden from the city guard in this fashion. Something to keep in mind in the future.

Xandar tightens his right cheek to his jaw, as if he were trying to suck the flesh out of it. He understands the necessity for secrecy of the gnome, but would really like to know why he aided the group. In any case, everyone is safe now. This, above all else, is a priority in light of their current situation.

Evan relaxes a little, deciding that if the gnome wanted to turn them in, he could have done so already. Evan takes a moment to check out his companions.

Evan met Uriel a couple of days ago. It seems they were looking for the same man, Dexter. Although Evan did not know why Uriel was hunting Dexter.

The others were new to him. Just how they tie in with the beholder and fox-creature, Evan did not know. In fact, if it weren't for the paladin's trust of the group, Evan might have traveled his own path this eve.

The pretty green-eyed Sorceress disturbs Evan as well. He is pretty sure he would remember if he had ever met her, yet he feels as if he knows her somehow. For instance, how does he know she has green eyes? While they have stood close a couple of times, its been dark and he certainly had other things on his mind besides gazing into someone's eyes. Why does she seem so familiar?

After another minute or two of forced silence as you all and the gnome watch the guard move on the gnome waves his hand in dismissal and the wall returns to normal. "Come quickly, I have other things to tend to and you are slowing me down," the gnome states abrasivly. The little gnome stomps over to the front door and carelessly throws it open. "You horse boy, give me that strip of leather." When Evan hands it over the little gnome rubs it vigorously with his fingers and outstretches his hands. With a quiet ninny from the horse and an almost audible pop you can see her again. When the last person has exited the building the gnome looks back over his shoulder,"They won't stop until they find you." and walks back into his building.

Evan moves to Ariel's side, running a soft hand along her flanks, making certain no harm came to her. Once Evan is satisfied with the safe condition of his friend, he looks to the others as he has very little knowledge of any cities, much less one the size of Plateau City. Once a plan of action is decided upon, Evan will move to a scouting position. Evan will check carefully for any sign of any returning guards.

The tatooed fighter steps through the doorway his senses alert to anything amiss (Listen=12, Spot=9). He moves quietly (Move Silently=12) and slips into the shadows (Hide=15).

Conner will wait with his back against the wall of the building while the adventurers regroup and head off in the chosen direction. He will take up a rear guard, his longsword in hand.

"I agree with him" says Kadaz, point to Uriel. "Once it's missed you you don't head back towards the search line, instead walk away from it."

Kadaz looks around carefully at this alley and the door they just came out of so that he can find this door in the future.

"Alright, let's all go then." With this, Xandar steps out of the gnome's shop and begins to walk up to Riverside Road. "Let us be quick about this. They might still find us amidst all this luck that we just experienced."

None of you hear anything out of the ordinary as you begin to quietly move down the alley. Moving in the alley has become more diffacult as the guard seems to have spent all their effort dumping every trash bin, box and bucket over the alley is strewn with bottles, food, waste, discarded clothing, you name it and it can be found here including rats who have quickly arrived to take part in this feast. As you move closer to Riverside Road you notice that they don't even move as you come close, their beady eyes defying you. The group rounds an oddly shaped triangular building and sees their destination Riverside Road. The street is well lit and remarkably clean. Shadows align themselves with the building side of the street making movement there slightly more appealing. A squad of soldiers appear to be standing at the bridge up the street, guarding or merely waiting though is unknown. Listen Checks DC 20.

Reaching Riverside Road, Arm listens to see if they are being pursued down the alley. Hearing nothing, he eyes the guards and mutters, "amazing....one step forward, two steps back...".

OOC: to Wade....according to the map, there seems to be 2 bridges near the area that we are at...which one are the guards by, the northernmost or southernmost?

Xandar notices a squad of rather unoccupied guards near the bridge and says, "Shhhh..." He closes his eyes, trying to glean some information from their conversations, but to no avail (LISTEN=8). The squeeks and munching of the feasting rats make it difficult for the half-elf to focus on the words of those guarding the bridge.

He smiles, opens his eyes, and softly says, "I can't hear what them. Can anyone hear what they are talking about?"

Evan presses Ariel up against the wall of the building and places a hand over her nose. He holds a finger to his lips in a hushing motion. He releases Ariel's nose, then taps her on the nose to make sure she's paying attention. He holds his hand out flat in front of Ariel. He waves his hand back and forth then points straight to the ground, his signal to Ariel that she is to stay where she is.

Evan listens for a moment (listen-17) and takes a quick look around. (spot-14) Moving silently, (move silent-24) Evan creeps along the side of the building, staying in the shadows as much as possible, to a point where he can hide and observe the guards better.

As Evan crouches in the shadow of the building, he considers the situation. What in the Wold have these people done to merit such an intense manhunt? And what of the twin to the fox-creature?

Conner tries to maintain a watchful position at the rear of the group [spot=5, listen=10], but the rats and refuse in the alley require his full attention if he is to negotiate them safely.

On hearing of yet more guards he leans over to Mira..."Perhaps you could simply put them to sleep and we could sneak by unnoticed?"
