Sarigar's Cave

Sarigan's cave - DM Clint
Monday February 2nd, 2004 6:09:33 PM

OOC: Greetings everyone! I'll take over regular posting duties here so take it easy on me here at the first. I'll try to post Monday-Friday around 4:30 CST or a bit later but will try to stick to that schedule.

IC:
The small cave turned haven comes alive with a flurry of activity as the Hamleteers make their way into it. Sarigar quickly begins going through his strange backpack pulling out a myriad of items before finally being satisfied at pulling out the bear cloak. He is then settled under it as he watches the others. Feng, Draxx and Setanos see to the prisoners, making sure that they are properly secured as they discuss their next course of action. The prisoners are still unconscious and Feng can see the appearance of purple bruises and cuts where the fists of Sarigan pummeled her earlier. But even then, her beauty is still unmistakable.

Arien wants no part of dealing with the captured Drow and decides that rest is what he needs, quickly entering a Trance as Rond issues orders for a watch. Tratain moves about the small cave seeing to the wounds of his companions as Rond moves over to gives his thanks to the newcomer.

Outside the cave the storm still rages on, flahes of lightning lighting up the night clear as day for brief moments before dropping back into darkness. The peels of thunder and even the driving rain on the outside of the rock outcrop will make it very difficult to hear anyone coming up on the group. The good news is that no pursuit was seen from the Inn but could they have been followed through other less mundane ways? Tension is thick in the air as the group considers their next move.

OOC: A few outstanding questions - What is the order of watch? Who needs healing and how much? When will you interrogate the prisoners? Anything else you want to do?

Draax (down 30hp)
Monday February 2nd, 2004 10:28:00 PM

Without opening his eyes Draax says, "I will take the second watch." He puts his hands behind his head and gets into a more comfortable position.

Sarigar (78 of 78HP)  d20+12=32
Monday February 2nd, 2004 11:40:44 PM

At the extension of his hand, Rond first hears a low growl that clearly comes from the wolf under the bearskin blanket. He can see some shifting under the cover but can't exactly what, but the growling ceases. In the occasional bursts of light from the storm, he can barely make out the eyes of the newcomer peering out at him. Slowly a hand extends out from the skins in a mimicking fashion to Ronds own offered hand, but does not clasp in a handshake as expected.

In a hoarse voice, clearly not used to speaking the common tongue, the newcomer replies, "Sarigar, this is my brother, in your words, Black Paws."

The hand slowly retracts back into the recesses of the bearskin which then slowly begins to collapse as it becomes obvious Sarigar is laying down to sleep. Unless pressed for more information, he quickly falls asleep. Accustomed to sleeping like a wolf (more napping really), he probably won't sleep long (a few hours) and go out with Black Paws to do some hunting for breakfast. Shortly after dawn, he returns with a decent sized deer across his shoulders, which he flops down on he ground near the mouth of the cave, from the bite marks, it's obvious that Black Paws has had his share (Survival, Nat 20, 32 total, should be enough for 11 people).

Feng (Down about 23)
Tuesday February 3rd, 2004 7:12:43 AM

"Thanks Tratain. Save your wands strength. I shall heal the rest of my injuries in the morning. I shall take the first watch. My mind is busy at the moment and I will not be able to sleep." The half-orc smiles.

Setanos (AC 15 HP 54/83) [Extended Mage Armor]
Tuesday February 3rd, 2004 8:38:14 AM

When all is settled, Setanos relaxes a bit. Looking over at the newcommer wrapped in his furs. "Well Sarigar, ye be a strange one thats fer sure, but ya got a fine sense o' timing!" Seeing that he wants to sleep, Setanos leaves him be after that.

"We be needing to be wary this night." Pointing to the prisoners he continues "They are a tricky lot, and by my beard I'd not be surprised if they were awake even now ploting and scheeming. And if their friends have spells ta locate them, we might be having even more problems."

After that Setanos makes his own bed,and after cleaning and sharpening his weapons, he gets some sleep. As he drifts off, he calls out "I'll take the last watch, wake me when its time."

How do you do the html bolds and such?

Thanks!

Dawning of a new day - DM Clint
Tuesday February 3rd, 2004 6:03:00 PM

With their bonds secured, the prisoners are left to themselves for the night, secure under the double watch posted over them. A few times during the night one of them will stir and test their bonds but find themselves unable to break them or secure their freedom.

Rond makes his introduction to Sarigan and Black Paws before the strange pair settles in for the evening under their bear blanket. Tratain heals everyone of their injuries before settling in for rest himself.

The thunderstorm continues long into the night only managing to finally break up and pass over an hour or so before dawn. Much to the delight of all encamped, nothing manages to invade the groups rest. There still appears to be no sign of pursuit, or at the very least, the groups tracks were sufficiently covered by the storm.

Just before daybreak, Sarigan disappears into the night only to return after first light with a gnawed-on deer carcass. There will obviously be enough meat for everyone if someone wishes to clean and cook the creature.

As the morning activity in the cave outcrop starts up the two captives stir and begin to move around against their bonds. Both try to get themselves up to sitting positions and glare at any near them with undiluted hatred.

Sarigar  d20+12=24
Tuesday February 3rd, 2004 7:47:09 PM

If one is not started, Sarigar will gather up twigs and branches in the cave that are hopefully dry enough to start a fire with. He begins the fire the truly old fashion way, rubbing a pair of sticks together (Survival 24).

Once the first is up to a suitable level that he can leave it unattended and steps over to the deer. He hefts up his hand axe, the cutting edge holding a very bright, very sharp, silvery edge, a distinct contrast to the rest of the corroded axehead. He cuts off a chunk of meat, skewers it on a stick, driving the end of the stick in the ground near the fire and leaves it to cook the meat.

He steps over to the priestess, squats down next to her and stares at her for several minutes. The look of vengence still in his eyes, muscles tense as though he may strike at any moment, only just barely kept in check. He reaches out to her with a blood covered hand, and with two fingers, traces a line across her forehead and down her cheek. He leans in closer to her and whispers gruffly "You will be mine for killing my brothers.

If she attempts to lash out at him in any way, Sarigar will give her a solid rake across the face. Enough to leave a couple good gouges, but no real lasting damage.

He turns away, back to his cooking breakfast. Snatches up his meal and returns to his "bed". He ungraciously rips bites off the meat, juices dripping off his chin. He watches the others again, almost as if he's protecting his meal from them.

Arien
Tuesday February 3rd, 2004 8:39:44 PM

After ending trance, Arien spends the rest of the time till morning by flipping through his spell book. When the rest of the party awakens Arien brings up the subject of spells, "Well friends, just to make sure we are all on the same page here as to what I can and will cast I would like some input on spells to memorize. Because we went so long without much access to funds my spellbook is still quite thin, however I recently joined the Star Mages' guild so once we get a chance to take a break I can spend some time scribing spells into my spell book here. Anyway for now this is what I have,"

Arien recites his spell list as follows: 1st Level: Burning Hands, Enlarge, Grease, Mage Armor, Magic Missile, Protection from Evil, Shield. 2nd Level: Flaming Sphere, Melf's Acid Arrows. 3rd Level: Fireball, Greater Magic Weapon, Lightning Bolt, Slow. 4th Level: Dimension Door, Evard's Black Tentacles, Ice Storm, Improved Invisibility. 5th Level: Cone of Cold, Teleport.

"I recieved positive feedback on the Black Tentacles spell but I would appreciate any feedback on what else you would like for me to memorize. Of course I will be memorizing a few defensive spells for my person but aside from that everything else is open.

Draax
Tuesday February 3rd, 2004 10:12:45 PM

After his watch Draax will take some time to clean and oil his weapons and armor. He goes out of his way to avoid the prisoners not trusting his human side to keep his elven side under control. He is amused by the interaction between Sarigar and the priestess and wonders what exactly happened between them.

He waits for Sarigar to get his meat before cutting a nice slice for himself to put on the fire. While his meal cooks he answers Arien's question, "The only spell that I would like to see in your repertoire is a door opening spell. I think its called pound or knock or something like that."

When his meat is cooked Draax will find a spot to sit and enjoy it as he listens to the others.

Feng
Wednesday February 4th, 2004 12:21:45 AM

As Sarigar heads to his bed, Feng spins the big man around and pushes him to the wall, hard. The half-orc was incredibly strong and held his double axe in his free hand. He was clearly not happy.

"You will not touch her again or any prisoner under our care. If you do you will deal with me wild man and you will not like that. While I may be vocal, some of my friends feel as I do. This will be your only warning." Feng glares at the man before returning to the priestess.

Feng places his hand on her cheek and heals some of her wounds (ooc: 10hp).

"Do not mistake my kindness for studpidity. As long as you are civil I will have no reason to chain you to a tree and leave you with a canteen and nothing else. I am Feng, who are you?"

ooc: there could be a potential problem here. Feng cannot and would not travel with Sarigar because of the way he acts and thins he does. I am afraid Feng will have to leave.

Setanos (AC 15 HP 54/83) [Extended Mage Armor]
Wednesday February 4th, 2004 1:46:59 PM

Setanos wakes with a yawn and a stretch. He sees to his wounds, cleaning and dressing them as best he can.

After that he sees to his spells, spending some time in quiet meditation. He then casts two spells, the first a long spell that take several minutes to complete, the second a quick spell, refreshing his armor. When Arien lists the spells in his book, Setanos takes a moment to recite his.

When the interaction between the newcomer and Feng occurs, Setanos stands with Feng. "Ya may have good reason for hating em lad, tis true. But right now they be tied up and helpless. Now I'm no paladin" he says with a chuckle, then returns to a more stern voice "but I'll not let ya be beating on helpless ones, even if they the scum o the earth." Then he turns a bit, making sure the drow can hear him clearly. "Now if these two was ta get free and threaten us..I'd be taking great pleasure in cleave'n em head ta toe."

Setanos then continues with the morning routine, and waits to see what the party does with the prisoners. He also tries to get a list of the items they have aquired so far.

Tratain
Wednesday February 4th, 2004 3:19:49 PM

After Healing everyone Tratain gets his rest and then stands watch for the night. In the mourning he prays for spells.

When the Confrontation breaks out he says to the others "Easy there. This man just helped save our lives. I don't think slamming him into the wall before we've known him for more than a few hours and had a chance to hear his story is the polite or just thing for us to do. The Dark Elf is our prisoner now and I too, will not let any harm come to her, but remember he came to our aid, while she was attempting to kill us. Remember that before you get to short with him."

Tratain turns to Sarigar and says "I can see you are angry at the dark elf, but you must understand that we will not allow any harm to come to her while she is our prisoner. I can see the rage in your eye's when you look at her. Perhapse if you told us what has happened it may help us better understand you. We need the Dark Elf to give us information to help us in our quest. Many Lives are at stake."

When everything gets settled down more or less Tratain begins to inventory everything the group has found from thier latest adventure by casting detect magic and seperating the items that need to be identified by the group. If the two Dark elves have any Magical Items still on their persons Tratain points it out to the others so they can get it off of them.

Rond (down about 40)  d20+8=12 d20+6=10 d20+8=20 d20+6=20
Wednesday February 4th, 2004 5:38:24 PM

(ooc sorry for missed post. 12" of snow and unscheduled work and being tired all interfered. ;) ) (under a time constraint so my post is a little abbreviated)

Sharing in the meat the Sarigar has brought the group, Rond will offer a piece of his portion back to Sarigar and his wolf.

Rond wants to show his possible friendship to Sarigar and his friend wolf. So Rond consults his knowledge of Nature, and shows a friendly attitude to both of them. (knowledge nature=12) (handle animal 10)

When Sarigar takes his action against the priestess, Rond remembers the non-civilized like actions that Sarigar has shown before. Not happy about his actions, Rond lays down his ears at Sarigar and speaks slowly so that he can be understood. (also showing that he expects to be treated as the pack leader) (Knowledge nature, and handle animal =20)

"Though you have helped us out and we appreciate that help. But we have not turned anyone over to you for you to do with as you please. Our family would hear more of these brothers of yours, so that we can understand your pain."

Another brother to the Pack? - DM Clint
Wednesday February 4th, 2004 5:54:57 PM

As light begins to invade the small outcropping and shelter, the Hamleteers stir from their rest and look to begin the day. After a few moments of trying to light a fire, Sarigar is rewarded for his efforts as a small flame springs to life. Getting the fire good and going, the wild man then procures meat from the deer to cook and leaves it there for the time being.

With the aroma of the cooking meat spreading through the small area, Sarigar goes over to talk with the prisoners. The only reaction he gets from the priestess is a continued look of utter hatred and contempt. Anyone watching can easily see that were she not gagged, she would probably be spewing a number of vile curses at Sarigar; if not outright spitting in his face.

Arien and Draax discuss Arien's spell selection for the day and Draax prepares a bit of meat for cooking as he makes an effort to ignore what is going on with Sarigar and the prisoners. For Feng and Setanos, the actions of the newcomer are over the line. Putting the man against the cavern wall, the pair let him know that that type of activity will not be tolerated. Tratain does his best to calm his companions and ease the tension, all the while letting Sarigar know what is at stake with the prisoners.

As Draax gets his cooked meat from the fire, Rond steps up to Sarigar, Feng, Setanos and Tratain and attempts to calm things as well. He tries to speak in a manner that the wild man might be more comfortable with, but will it bear any fruit?

OOC: Ok, didn't want to take things further without allowing Sarigar a chance to respond to what has happened to him. Feel free to resolve this situation and then let me know what you wish to do next.

Also, everyone was healed the night before so you are at full strength.

Sarigar
Wednesday February 4th, 2004 11:25:22 PM

ooc: Just want to start by pointing out that the blood I was spreading on her face was the deer blood on my hands from cutting out my portion. I was only going to scratch her (and just enough to make a point, thus the "no real lasting damage") if she attempted to lash out at him. That whole bit was for intimidation purposes (maybe I should have rolled that?).

As Feng pins him against the wall, Sarigar simply allows his body to go completely limp. Physically, Feng seems to be the Alpha of this pack and Sarigar's lack of reprisal is to show his acceptance of that. He does however look deep into the half-orc's eyes showing absolutely no fear.

Sarigar's stare is only broken for two brief instances. The first is a darting gaze at the wolf that was about to bite in to Feng's leg. The wolf immediately recoils back to their spot in the cave. The second is to pass a glance at Setanos in recognition that he's talking. Whether the words get through to him is unclear though.

Once he's let down, he backs up next to his wolf and crouches down. He gives a slight smile toward Rond seeing his actions to appeal to him. The grin is almost frightening as if he knows some deep dark secret about Rond. In a husky tone he says, "I know your words. I just do not speak them a lot. You want to know of my brothers the witch killed? They were my pack. She and the other dark skinned ones killed them. It was not even a hunt. A hunt I know. They killed just to kill. They killed my brothers. I will kill them. As it should be." Throughout his story, Sarigar's eyes never leave Feng. The look is not of anger, just watchful.

The wolf sniffs at the meat Rond offers, but pushes it away with its nose. He's obviously had his fill and does not need the offering at this time. Rond knows this isn't a rejection, just an "explanation" that he's sated for now.

Feng
Thursday February 5th, 2004 12:03:29 AM

"If you even attempt to take their lives while they are in our custody, you will forever be my enemy. While I am grateful for the help you provided, I cannot allow the abuse of prisoners. It is regretable that they killed your brothers but killing them in cold blood makes you just like them. DO you really want to be on their level or do you want to be better than they are?"

Setanos (AC 19 HP 83/83) [Extended Mage Armor]
Thursday February 5th, 2004 9:07:50 AM

Setanos remains near Sarigar and Feng, overtly to show Sarigar that he generally supports Feng in this. But you also guess he might be there to protect Sarigar should Feng be a bit too zealous, or if things get out of hand.

When things cool down, Setanos brings up the prisoners. "What's ta be done with them? Take em ta the city for judgement? Or perhaps trial by combat...I'd be willing to fight one of em ta the death in a straight up fight. I just cant see slit'n their throats or letting em go."

While the dicussion continues, Setanos takes the time to cast a quick divination on the gear they found.

Tratain
Thursday February 5th, 2004 3:05:57 PM

Seeing that everything has seemed to have calmed a little Tratain helps Setanos Inventory the Items found on the recent adventure.

When completed he says "We need to bring the Dark Elf's back to the City where someone can get information out of them. Sarigar, I think you had best accompany us. The two Dark Elf's who escaped have seen you so they will be looking for you as well. We should stick together incase they attack."

Rond
Thursday February 5th, 2004 3:32:27 PM

Noting the actions that Sarigar has taken, Rond doesn't do anything to dissuade that opinion for now.

Continuing to take his time and explain things out for Sarigar, "This particular dark elf may have information that is of interest for everyone that lives in this part of the world. Though she has killed your pack, she might be involved in the death of many more than just your pack. We need her to go back to the city and see if we can try to stop what is going on out here. There is much more to tell you about what is going on. But for now time is short and we should travel. We are going to be heading towards a very densely populated city. I'm hoping you are comfortable with that and will be able to accompany us in order to tell your tale."

Talking to the others in the group Rond says, "We should head back to the city, preferably by magic. So that both the drow and the dead mage might be able to be used for information. I don't think the dead mage will be of much use to us soon, if we don't get back shortly."

Draax
Thursday February 5th, 2004 6:28:13 PM

Draax remains silent as he watches everything. He does not fault the wild man for his actions, but he also realizes how valuable the information the drows might have could be to their cause.

He gathers his gear and waits for the party to leave.

Tensions eased and plans discussed - DM Clint
Friday February 6th, 2004 9:42:37 AM

As Sarigar backs down from the handling of Feng, the tension in the air is lessened a bit as all seem to understand one another. Setanos, Tratain and Rond discuss the options for the prisoners and the need to make haste back to the city. With bellies full from the deer Sarigar killed or rations, everything is ready for the group's next course of action.

OOC: Sorry I didn't post yesterday, I had problems getting to the site and wasn't able to post before leaving.

Please let me know exactly what you wish to do going forward, where will you go, how will you get there, etc?

I'll have to get back with you regarding the results of the detect magic spell on the items, but I haven't forgotten it.

Sarigar
Friday February 6th, 2004 10:56:17 AM

As Setanos' gaze passes by Sarigar, just about every visible item on the wild man lights up under his detect magic spell. Curious, how did someone so out of touch with civilization come to have such an abundant amount of magic items (Armor, both Rings, Amulet, Boots, Backpack and the leather thong strapped loosely around his wrist). If he takes the time, he would note that none of the items are exceptionally powerful.

Sarigar cringes slightly at the though of going to a city, particularly a densely populated city. He glances down at Black Paws as if concerned that his brother may not be able to come. Seeing the others beginning to pack up, Sarigar follows suit, stuffing the bearskin (blanket) back into his pack. He lops off a few small hunks off the deer carcass and shoves those (raw) into the pack as well. He looks toward Feng, as if waiting for him to lead the way.

Tratain
Friday February 6th, 2004 2:45:13 PM

Tratain says "Lets head back to the War cathedral. I suggest that we try to avoid the the coast and the roads until we are closer to the City. They will be looking for us, we need to move quickly before they can locate us with Magic and bring thier forces to bear on us."

Travel preparations - Dm Ian filling in
Friday February 6th, 2004 7:03:26 PM

The group packs up, and gets ready to head out, picking up the bound and angry captive dark elves. In the midst of the discussion about plans to travel, Arien feels an unfriendly sorcerous effect impact, and a rough, angry male human voice sounds only in his ear.

"Have your leader. Machine gets moved in few days. Have courage to face us like honest men? Otherwise, Sons of Dread free to revenge. L."

The detect magic reveals the following:

From Mage:
Scroll Tube; Haversack; Dagger; Robe; 40 gold - all non-magical
From Mages Henchment:
3x Field Plate; 3x Large Shield; 3x MW - all non-magical
Longsword; 3x Dagger; 3x Longbow; 40 Arrows x3 - all non-magical
From Giant:
Belt - moderate transmutation magic
From Skeletal Gladiator:
Adamantite Spiked Chain - faint enchantment magic
From Dark Elves:
Flanged Mace (Priesstess) - faint enchantment magic
Mithril Chain Shirt (Priesstess) - non-magical
Dagger - Blackish Metal (other elf) - moderate necromantic magic
Dagger - Adamantite (other elf) - faint enchantment magic
Buckler (other Elf) - faint enchantment magic
2 belt pouches with 9 vials - 9 doses of sticky black venom

Arien (extended Mage Armor AC 21)
Saturday February 7th, 2004 7:09:25 PM

Already thinking the idea to get to civilization was unwise Arien agrees with the voice in a way. As the party is packing up Arien says, "Perhaps going back to the city is not the best plan of action at the moment. Those two drow got away and are likely telling their superiors how they failed, meaning that if we leave the area most likely they would as well. With them gone we would lose our only link to the soul forge and the Son's of Dread would be free to retalite and there would be nothing we could do about it. Besides that going back to the city now feels too much like running away with our tails tucked firmly between our legs. They know we are here, we know they are here." Arien surveys the group a moment to see how his words are affecting them before continuing, "If you also feel that condeming Renik to death is a reasonable action then by all means flee, but I will not leave him to die by the hands of these fools. I have also recieved a challenge by another arcane caster and I will not back down, I will fight, I will rescue Renik and I will destroy the Soul Forge!" Done with words Arien shoulders his haversack and leaves the cave, heading back to the inn.

Draax
Sunday February 8th, 2004 10:00:26 PM

Draax sits quickly while he listens to Arien's emotional speech. He smiles as he watches the mage leave the cave. "Arien is right, if leaving means that we condemn Renik to death then it is obvious that we cannot leave now. But the most important thing is that I do not think that we are leaving here magically without Arien." His smile widens as he says that statement.

"But! If we all stay, something will have to be done with the prisoners. Unless our new friend and his wolf have some information we can use, the inn is our only clue and we still do not have an idea of where we are going or where they have taken Renik. The bad guys know we are coming and we will be out numbered with no idea of how many we will be facing. But, besides those minor setbacks we have nothing to worry about."

Instead of continuing to avoid the prisoners, Draax goes over to them and takes a few minutes to study them. When he is satisfied that he can copy their look he grabs his gear, moves to the entrance of the cave and waits to see what the others will do.

Rond
Monday February 9th, 2004 3:22:33 AM

Continuing on from where Arien left off, "Which is why I wanted us to use spells to get back to the city. So that we could get there and get back and not lose so much time. But since we are all bent on not leaving Renik behind, and not using what we have. Then let's make sure this Drow is tied up and leave her here for us or someone to discover afterwards. The mage does us no good, except maybe to stink up the place for the Drow.

By all means, let's go save Renik, and throw caution to the wind." With that Rond grabs his things and follows Arien out the door.

Setanos (AC 19 HP 83/83) [Extended Mage Armor]
Monday February 9th, 2004 8:21:32 AM

"Arien, wait. While I'm all fer charging in, we got two prisoners ta deal with. Bringing em back with us is foolish, we canna just kill em...so what da ya propose we do with em?" Setanos calls out as Arien walks out the door. "We ain't even knowing if Renik's alive mate."

Walking over to Rond, he says simply "We just gonna leave em here tied up? Thats na good mate. Either they'll be loose the bonds and at our backs in a few minutes, or they'll be stuck here helpless ta die."

The debate continues - Dm Ian filling in
Monday February 9th, 2004 7:01:47 PM

As the party debates back and forth, the prisoners watch impassively, bound and gagged. As Arien leaves, the male dark elf begins laughing, the coarse sound muffled by his gags. The priestess glances over at her male counterpart, but otherwise does not act.

Leaving the cave, the storm seems to have broken in the late night, but the ground is muddy and the winds are still gusting strongly off the nearby sea. The salt air is invigorating, if cold, and the cries of bird high above are somewhat audible.

Sarigar shoots a glare at the amused Dark Elf. If looks could kill, the Dark elf would find himself eviscerated most horribly by the gaze (Intimidate 18 no skill). When he sees that the Dark Elf has seen his reaction, he returns his eyes to Feng, waiting, his arm draped across Black Paws back.

Seing that the woman is in charge, Feng heads over and temporarily ungags the woman. He doesn't have to speak up on the matter about saving Renik. His friends know he will not let him die. Feng turns to the woman and says, "Do you have anything to say on your behalf? I expect a few insults and nothing of any real value but I thought I would give you the chance."

Tratain says "I think the only course of action open to us is to knock them out and hope that they are still here when we come back. I don't believe theres a danger they will Starve or die of Thirst. Whatever happens between us and the Sons of Dread will be over fairly quickly I'm certain. Nothing that will last days. And If we knock them out we'll give ourselves a few hours head start over them instead of chanceing that they will break out a few minutes after we leave and reach the inn at a similar time that we do and sound a warning."

Draax
Tuesday February 10th, 2004 4:31:07 PM

Draax continues to wait at the cave entrance for the others. He keeps his ideas about the prisoners to himself. The only suggestion that he could come up with is to slit their throats. The half-elf does not know why he hate these beings some much, he just knows that hates them with every fiber of his being. He has never hated anyone without a reason before and he always thought of himself as being above hating someone because of their race. Unable to come up with any reason to justify his feelings Draax shrug his shoulders and accepts the fact that he has a prejudice bone in his body. He briefly wonders how this new realization will affect the person he will become in the future.

As the last of the supplies are gathered up, and most of the group forms at the cave entrace, Feng slips the gag of the dark elven priestess.

She looks up cooly at Feng, and states, "You didn't know we dark elves were there... tell me who you did come for, and perhaps we have the basis for some negotiation."

At this, the males' eyes get large for just a moment, and then a calculating expression comes over his face.

Feng
Tuesday February 10th, 2004 11:34:53 PM

"Considering the position you are in, it is in your best interest to tell us everything. You know that certain people in this cave want you dead. I doubt you could say anything that will make me trust you. How long do you think you would survive up here if you weren't unconscious in this cave with no supplies. Like I said, it is in your best interest to talk and talk fast."

Rond
Wednesday February 11th, 2004 1:23:33 AM

"Our group is a seemingly blood thirsty group that tends to act with no planning. I would definitely give up something, because about 1/2 our group is ready to jump down your throat."

With that Rond will step outside of the cave to wait for the group, and to keep an eye on things. Rond goes far enough away from the cave in order to not hear anything that is being said.

Wednesday February 11th, 2004 10:53:25 AM

Noting the tone in Feng's and Rond's voices and hearing their words as they talk to the priestess, Sarigar begins emitting a low growl. It is loud enough that it can be heard, but not enough to drown out even the slightest whispers from the Dark elf. The sound of it is almost a mixture of helping Feng intimidate her (15, no ranks) into talking and anticipation that he may be let loose on her by the half-orc.

Black Paws, not caring for the interactions in the cave, follows Rond out of the cave, leaving quite a bit of space between the two. Black Paws has obviously not accepted him completely, but still seems a bit suspicious.

Draax
Wednesday February 11th, 2004 6:14:55 PM

Draax moves his hair away from his eyes so that his elven heritage is clearly visible. He goes over to the dark elf priestess and squat in front of her so that they are eye to eye. He begins to talk in a very calm but menacing voice.

"OK, we need to know about the Son of Dread and their machine, where it and they are, how to get there and what awaits us when you do get there. Either you know these things or you don't. Do not try to lie to us or stretch the trust, we know enough about who and what we seek to know if you are lying. Now you only get one chance at this. If you have no information, than I will let my friends deal with you as they seem fit. If I found falsehood in the information you try to feed us, I will personally give you a very wide grin underneath your chin, if you get my meaning. And if you think that any of my over protective friends will be able to stop me before I cut you from ear to ear think again."

When he is finished speaking Draax stands up and takes a step away from the priestess, but never takes his eyes away from her.

A response - Dm Ian filling in
Thursday February 12th, 2004 6:31:47 AM

The priestess meets Fengs gaze and then Draax's in turn, seemingly untouched by the open threat of violence. She speaks with a kind of half-smirk, as if daring to call your bluff.

"The pathetic sorceror and his machine are nothing to me... so what you intend with his machine is also nothing."

"You throw around the name of their organization so casually,... have you ever thought what it meant? The demi-lich, Dread, is ancient and mighty, a testament to a will turned to real destruction."

"You've already seen the pathetic experiments that Lemmran has been able to try based on the metal soaked in the energies of his machine. Tell, did you like the effect it had on the mummies, or the skeletal warrior?"

With this, she smiles coldly, waiting for a response of some sort.

In the morning light pouring into the stone cave shelter, as she smirks, and the shift of her tunic reveals some sort of burned scarring on her right shoulder. The scar formes the raised outline of a scorpion.

Draax is a little disappointed at the Priestess's cooperation; he would have liked to have known if he could have carry out his own threat. He dismisses the thought from his mind and listens to the priestess as she talks. He waits until she answers Feng's question and if the answers he seeks are not found in her explanation to Feng. Draax will ask a few questions.

"I cannot honestly say that I liked the effects, but I have to say that I am impressed. Do you have any idea where this Lemmran got the machine and most important where we can find him and his machine?"

Everyone in the cave considering the symbol of the scorpion remembers that it is the holy sign of Jancassis, and is only worn by her devoted, or her clergy.

Replying to Draax, she says, "You know as well as I that he is within that dungeon he calls a mage school. He built the machine from the plans the Sons found in that library, the library they say they took from right under your noses some time ago."

She smiles for a moment, a chilling display of confidence and filed teeth.

"I offer a trade. You will let my servant and I go, and in return, I will tell you of Lemmrans plan for the infused metal, and the two defenses to his workroom. Otherwise, you will kill me, and I will be avenged."

The information she possesses could be too valuable to not take it, but should they release them to do more evil. Although it should be a group decision, Draax looks over at Feng. He looks over at Sarigar to see how well he is handling her proposal.

"Well?", she queries imperiously.

The group will either have to let them go or keep them tied up and let them escape eventually. He is eager to hear the information that she can give them, but would have felt better if they could have taken her back with them and let the experts bleed the information out of her. He looks over at Sarigar and realizes even if they let her go this is not over.

Draax gets in a comfortable position and waits for the deal to be struck.

A pause for effect - Dm Ian filling in

The priestess waits, a grim smile on her face as she apparently refuses to communicate further until her question is answered.

Arien walks for about fifteen minutes, and arrives back at the inn. The building is quiet in the early morning light, save for the creak of the sign out front. The sounds of the sea nearby pounds mercilessly away, and the scent of smoke emanates tepidly from somewhere inside.

The stables are empty, and while the ground is muddy, there are many boot and footprints. Its hard for Arien to make much sense out of them without extended study.

What happens while I am gone is beyond my control. Though I suspect the wild man over there wishes to send you to meet your god."

Feng would hold true to his beliefs but he would not anybody take advantage of those beliefs. He would give this priestess an opportunity to talk and cooperate. If she did that then he would let her live. If she wanted to be stubborn then she was beyond his help. Despite his orc blood, he was not stupid.

An agreement - Dm Ian
Wednesday February 18th, 2004 1:43:29 AM

The priestess meets Fengs gaze with a steely glare, and intones flatly, "Then the bargain is agreed upon, and vengeance be upon the one who breaks it. Myself and my war mage will return to our civilised lands in the UnderWold, and not return to the mage school, or take action against your party, for a period of a month."

Then, addressing Tratain, Draax, and Setanos in turn, she says, "The corrupted Fixer who was formerly called Brother Lemmran had been assigned to gather information about the soul machines of the Sons of Dread, to allow the devastation caused in the Year of Ascension to be understood and repaired. The information changed the enchanter, bringing him face to face with oblivion."

"Brother L, as he calls himself now, has been experimenting in his inner sanctum with the creation of the right metals, but has not succeeded yet. He has gathered allies from the derro, sahuagin, and koalinth peoples. The dark elves in my command were an embassy to him. You saw all our number. However, he cannot command himself, so he relies on this three lieutenants. The primary among them is the Hidden Master, a dragon turtle of great intelligence who defends the front door to the Brothers workshop with a symbol of sleep, a permanent illusion, and a crystal ball."

"I believe that satisfies our bargain. You may cut my bonds now, and leave", she says with an imperious tone.

Arien continues to look over the inn, not seeing or hearing any movement. A faint smell of rotting matter can be detected from within the inn, but Arien would have to venture closer to tell more.

Overland, and arrival - Dm Ian
Wednesday February 18th, 2004 7:46:07 PM

Tratain cuts the dark elves bonds, and leaves to the sight of the priestess grinning, and the male dark elf sitting sullen, as if expecting a blow.

The party moves quickly overland with Sarigar's guidance, and Black Paw scouting ahead. The group makes better time, and arrives just as Arien is scouting out the entrance to the inn.

Looking within, Arien sees that the common room is empty, save for the rotting remains of the mummies killed by the party. There is no sign of the blackish metal, and the tables have all been pulled aside, and piled behind the bar to cover the doorway into the kitchen.

The staircase stands across the room, open and taunting.

Draax
Wednesday February 18th, 2004 7:49:13 PM

Draax nods his head in agreement, satisfied that the information gained was worth the price of setting the dark elves free. He takes one last look at the drow before exiting the cave. Seeing the others outside he notices the absence of Arien. After telling Rond about what transpired in the cave he asks the obvious question. "Where did Arien go?

Since the common room is apparently clear Arien continues inside. Arien examines the remains of the mummies, but remembering the fact that they carry diseases, does not touch the remains. After a few moments of examination, Arien shifts his attention to the make shift fortifications that blocked off the kitchen. Remembering that the surviving drow, besides the ones the party had taken captive, had fled in there Arien looks for a way to reinforce the barrier from this side hopefully to keep the drow out of the fight should they decide to leave their defenses.

Clearing the way - Dm Ian
Friday February 20th, 2004 8:08:04 PM

Clearing the last of the heavy tables out of the way, Tratain, Feng, and Rond can easily see into the kitchen area. It is messy, with pots and pans tossed every which way, as if someone has recently done a fast search for something in the area. Tratain points out the place in the center of the floor where the trapdoor was seen open. As every cranes their head to see over a table to that section of floor, they notice that the trapdoor is closed, with a rug stretched over it.

Yes, its the same rug that was on the base of the stairs during your initial flight.

Sarigar rummages around on the staircase while standing guard, finding nothing other than mud on the upper steps of the stairs. However, there are vague thumping sounds behind the wall.

(Listen check please. Survival roll also, please, for tracking info.)
