Milo Saturday February 14th, 2004 3:53:54 AM
Perplexed, Milo is surprised as Figment simply marches toward the wall with no sign of stopping. The halfling cringes slightly, waiting for the coming 'thump'.
Brother Bertram Saturday February 14th, 2004 8:07:49 AM
Bertram waits quietly, listening for any indication that the creature was again moving in the tunnel. Whatever crept there, it would not get by him.
DM Kent d20+9=11 d20+4=7 Saturday February 14th, 2004 2:43:03 PM
Figment walks toward the wall and at the very last instant puts out his hands and meets the solid wall. (Will DC 11)
Gunther gets to the bottom of the rope and realizes that the end of the rope does not allow him to touch the ground. There seems to be about a 10 foot drop below his feet. Taking a deep breath he goes for it and tries to keep his feet as he lands (Dex DC 10) (rolled a 7 total)but manages to not quite land evenly and he tumbles to the ground with a mild curse.(No Damage) Gunther feels around on the ground around him and in the extremely dim lighting realizes that all the debris around him is skeletons of all sizes and forms. After brushing himself off Gunther finds that there is a one way passage ahead of him, but it is Very dark.
Athalorn is no longer one with the wall and just as he moves out he hears a crash/thud followed by a soft curse coming from the entry hole behind him. He realizes as well that he can only see about 5 feet in front of him at best due to the lack of light. Up ahead it could be possible that he hears some muffled voices, but it is hard to be sure.
Bertram waits quietly listening and is rewarded with the sound of something heavy falling, though it is much further back than the last sounds he heard.
Elese cozies up to Lian with a quiet question.
"Do you truly think that there is a Dragon down here? I'm not sure whether to be excited or frightened."
Ingrge joins Milo, Olanna and Figment in assessing the wall.
"Milo my friend, I too think this wall is just too perfect, and though hardheaded, I am not willing to trust to that and walk into it. At the same time I do not know what might happen should I cast a Dispel Magic on the area either. If the compass is showing the correct way which I believe it is then there has to be a way through. If neither you nor Olanna can find a normal or hidden way through then it must then be magical. The two options would be a knock spell if there is a door of some sort, or the dispell magic. If neither of those works then we back up and Figment and I try to blast our way through. Either way I expect we will be anouncing our presence, so I want everyone ready for anything."
Brother Bertram Saturday February 14th, 2004 3:16:02 PM
(OOC Kent, I realize its a tunnel but maybe a map would help a bit if possible)
Gunther Saturday February 14th, 2004 5:26:09 PM Well, now everything in this tunnel will now where I am!! thinks Gunther. He picks himself up and dusts himself off. Looking at the skeletons he comes to the conclusion that something has been very busy. He drops into a crouch and begins to travel slowly down the tunnel. He briefly considers lighting a torch, but decides against it since that would further serve to loudly announce his presence. Better to go slowly and somewhat quietly...
Athalorn Sunday February 15th, 2004 3:48:41 AM
Hearing the noise behind him, the druid assumes that someone, or something, has followed him down the hole. Readying his spear, and crouching amongst the bones, he waits silently for the creature to catch him up
Olana Sunday February 15th, 2004 10:55:38 PM
"Blasting it might hurt our ears," says the elf, hoping some other means are at the group's disposal.
"Bertram, everything still okay back there?"
Lian (Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance) d20+13=24 d20+18=29 d20+13=29 Monday February 16th, 2004 3:19:14 AM
The monk answers Elese's concerns. "If it is a dragon, it is likely good. However, as the fireballs and electrical bolts are fired, I suggest that you find a hiding spot. I certainly will." He says, entirely oblivious that he sounds petrified.
He takes note of his friends and the wall dilemma. "Well friends, it could be something as simple as the perfect wall. Simple answers are often accurate. If the wall is solid we should continue on." He moves to the wall and touches it, but will not pass through if he passes his hand into it. (Will save 24, 28 if it is an Enchantment.)
The monk remains alert. (Listen 29, Spot 29) He reminds his friends that if there is a dragon, he would have likely heard the group already. "Let us be a little quieter?"
DM kent Monday February 16th, 2004 6:04:34 PM
Lian's hand too hits something solid but not before he notices it sink into the while wall first.
At Olanna's comment Ingrge shakes his head and then grins, "Yeah but it would be fun."
Staying with Lian, Elese takes a closer look at the wall as Lian touches it and then smiles.
"This is quite clever. There is an illusion of a wall set over the existing wall and I believe a door as well. I expect that dispell magic will cause no harm if cast centered on this spot."
Figment (Fly) d20+9=14 Monday February 16th, 2004 7:52:41 PM
The mage tries again with no avail to see the illusion - feeling a bit silly. "Ingrge, would you be so kind as to lend me a dispell magic scroll?". Upon getting it he casts the spell straight onto the spot the compass appears to be pointing (presuming its the same spot Milo identifies).
Brother Bertram Monday February 16th, 2004 9:28:05 PM
Bertram motions back to Olana that something is indeed approaching. He stands ready to defend.
Milo Monday February 16th, 2004 9:29:18 PM
Milo steps away from the wall while Figment is casting. Once the door is revealed he takes his time searching it for possible traps, and checks to see if it is locked. (OOC: Taking 20 to search DC 34.)

Still waiting, and holding his spear in two hands, the druid begins to back his way down the tunnel. Slowly at first, he listens carefully for more sounds in front of him and also to the murmurs coming from deeper into the cave, as he makes his way.

Since nothing has shown its presence or eaten him so far, Gunther decides to continue down the tunnel. He moves as quietly as he can (Move Silent=7), but finds it very difficult considering he can't see beyond the hand in front of his face. That, and the skeletons littering the floor doesn't help things. Crunch, crunch, crunch
As Gunther moves noisily down the tunnel, he remembers that he had previously seen another human entering this very tunnel before him. Hmmmm....maybe I should announce my presence verbally so I don't get involved in friendly fire. Gunther thinks to himself. As he travels down the tunnel, Gunther whispers in common "Hello is der somevon here? I vas told dat help vas needed here." He tries to keep his eyes and ears (Spot=21, Listen=15) open to possible sources of trouble, but given the present circumstances, he doubts he will identify anything before he's picking himself out of its teeth.
Olana d20+13=29 d20+17=18 Tuesday February 17th, 2004 12:22:03 PM
"I knew it," whispers the elf. "Milo, be careful. I'm going to go and watch our backs - something's coming."
Picking her way quickly over the bones, she returns to where Bertram is standing. "If this is the dragon creeping up on us, I hope it's in a good mood." She has bow and arrow at the ready, and peers into the gloom. ((Spot DC29 Listen DC18 )) If she hears Gunther's distant voice, she adds - "Well, that didn't sound like a dragon."
Ingrge Tuesday February 17th, 2004 2:56:56 PM
Handing a scroll to Figment, Ingrge watches as his fellow mage casts the dispel spell on the area that is pointed out.
DM kent Tuesday February 17th, 2004 3:14:18 PM
Athalorn sarts moving again and is rewarded by seeing the soft glow of some sort of light from around the corner ahead. And then he hears Gunther's voice from behind followed by more voices from ahead of him.
Gunther moves forward slowly making some progress and makes his way around the first slight bend and just maybe, though it could be a trick of the mind, can see the slightest tinge of light in the darkness.
Bert and Olanna look into the darness of the tunnel and can now just make out the vague shape of a man-sized humanoid about 40 ft away. Coming from behind him You both hear the light call of Gunther's.
Figment reads the scroll and there is a slight shimmer in the air as the exisitng magic is cancelled for the time being. Exactly where the Alabaster wall was before crossing the tunnel, Is a nearly identical Alabaster wall. Identical that is but for one small difference. In the middle of the wall is a 20 ft wide and 20 foot tall set of double doors. There is an unrecognizable coat of arms on the door and inthe center of the double doors are two identical eight inch raised circles where one might expect to find door handles.
Even to Milo's experienced eye, there is no apparent lock visible, and Milo is sure that there are no traps on the door either. After his inspection, he is fairly certain that to open the doors one must press on both circles simultaneously, and he believes then that the doors should slide open to each side after sliding inward several inches.
Brother Bertram Tuesday February 17th, 2004 9:10:51 PM
Bertram looks to Olana then looks to the others engrossed with the riddle of the door. He shrugs and steps out into center of the tunnel. "In the name of Domi and Gargul, Friend or Foe?" He stands ready to defend himself if set upon.
Milo Wednesday February 18th, 2004 1:24:31 AM
Satisfied, Milo turns around to see who approaches. He mentions to Figment quietly, "The doors should be easy enough to open. Who is at our back?" The halfling rogue draws his short sword, and rests it casually on his shoulder, while keep an eye on Olana.
Athalorn Wednesday February 18th, 2004 3:23:23 AM
Now between two unknown people, the druid decides to reveal himelf to all. Thinking that the voices from deeper in the tunnel must be those he was sent to help. "I am Athalorn, of the Culverwood." he walks more hastily now into the light. "I have been sent to help you...."

Gunther d20+1=3 Wednesday February 18th, 2004 8:58:44 AM
Hearing the challenge from the front of the tunnel, Gunther smiles a bit. Domi and Gargul....it's either a very cleaver beast or they really are friendly. he thinks.
"Friend." Gunther calls out as he continues his slow traverse through the bones....crunching the whole way.
Olana Wednesday February 18th, 2004 1:57:27 PM
Olana lowers her bow and raises an eyebrow at Bertram as the replies come back to them down the tunnel. "Step forward into the light!" she calls out. "And be mindful underfoot. We saw tripwires on our way through here!"
Milo Wednesday February 18th, 2004 9:06:32 PM
Milo's face quirks up, "Friends in this place?... I think these two give chase... Though we seek an answer for... What's behind this wretched door. If you would help us, step to the light... if you would not, you're in for a heckuva fight." The halfling chortles and guffaws at his own wit, and then cocks his head to one side, and tightens his grip on his short sword.
Figment (Fly) Wednesday February 18th, 2004 9:29:18 PM
After casting the spell the mage steps back to let Milo and the fighters lead the way. Hearing the others he turns and prepares to cast.

Athalorn and then Gunther move closer to the challenging voices, wait was one of the voices female?
Gunther remembers that the Old Druid had mentioned something about having just sent one of his own though. The name seemed to sound something like Athalorn.
As Gunther and Athalorn move forward, they see in front of them a bristling dwarf, a well armed elf lass and a grinning halfling. They also see a figure in the shadows off to one side. Behind the front line near the rear wall they see a male elf a human male and another elf lass.
Athalorn Thursday February 19th, 2004 3:27:05 AM
Although clear to Athalorn that these were the people the old druid had sent him to help, the party were clearly not expecting company at this stage. As such, he holds on to his spear, but emerges fully into the light to confront the crowd.
Athalorn is 6'0 tall and of slight build. He has pale skin and light brown hair, laced with blonde streaks, and tied with several Hawk feathers. His hair cascades down his back to a great length. He wears a tattered cloak, woven in hues of green. Tattoos and markings adorn his body, two on each arm are particularly prominent. Aside from the spear he carries, there is a second strapped to his back, and two pouches hang from a leather belt.
"I have been sent by the elders of my circle to aid you in your quest. I understand you seek a great artifact? And that you endeavour to end the reign of Parnoth?" Thinking for a moment, he speaks softly, "I think I have been followed..."
Lian Thursday February 19th, 2004 7:33:47 AM
The monk creeps out of the shadows and makes his prescence known.
Gunther Thursday February 19th, 2004 2:13:51 PM
The crunching stops as Gunther hears the word "tripwires". "Yep...time to get a torch out." he thinks. Gunther reaches in his backpack, pulls out and lights a torch before traveling any further.
As asked, Gunther walks until hey steps into the group's light. Even in the dim torch light, it is easy to see that Gunther is a man accustomed to warfare. Though standing a mere 5 feet 5 inches tall, he has a very stocky look to him. His hide armor appears to be composed of a plethora of hides from several forms of exotic animals. His forearms and neck are literally covered in a myriad of scars. The two-bladed sword strapped to his back glints in the torchlight.
"I do not seek a fight. I vas sent here to help de Talons. An old man said dey vere needing help. Is dis not true?" Gunther looks the halfing up and down in an appraising manner. "I doubt dat it vould be much of a fight between you and I...but den appearances are often deceiving no?" Gunther chuckles in a soft friendly manner.
Brother Bertram Thursday February 19th, 2004 2:36:29 PM
Bertram listens to each of the men as they come forward, still watching for any sign of betrayal. His mouth twitched behind his grizzled beard, hearing the stranger speak to Milo in such a condescending way.
Figment (Fly) Thursday February 19th, 2004 9:41:55 PM
The mage flies into the air a bit to get a clearer view. He says in a clearly exageratedl pleasant voice "Name the old man...". 3 new people in short order - not so good... He is clearly ready for battle but makes no moves.
Olana Friday February 20th, 2004 12:50:27 AM
The well armed elf lass cocks her head and stares at both of the men who come forward. One of them was a forest man - a ranger like herself, or perhaps a druid, yes - they had gatherings, circles as he spoke of. The other looked as tough as an oak and just as gnarly. Her pale blue eyes move between them, looking for trouble and seeing none - well, none immediate anyway.
To be perfectly honest she's just glad it wasn't the dragon. She knows the others are still on guard, and so she steps forward and smiles, hoping to add to Milo's ice breaker.
"Well, you've found the Talons." Her narrow face lights up into a pleasant smile. "I am Olana, this is Bertram, and Milo - oh, and here's Lian. Back there is Figment, Ingrge, and... Elese, who we rescued." Her smile wavers subconsciously at the mention of Elese.
Olana is slight, very pretty (for an elf), with long blonde hair tied in a loose braid, around 5ft tall, and dressed in close-fitting, forest-drab ranger clothes. She appears to have an extensive collection of blades besides her bow.
Milo Friday February 20th, 2004 1:39:22 AM
Milo stays where he stands next to the door, smile afixed firmly to his face, "You are correct my foreign friend, it would be not much of a fight indeed." Milo spins his short sword in a blur and it lands neatly in its sheath. "However, I don't think it is yet your time." Milo winks and cocks his head the other direction.
Milo is tall for a halfling, standing a full 4 feet 2 inches, though he is thin and athletic in build. Milo's hair is cut short and neat, though straight which is strange for halflings who tend toward curly hair, and his eyes are deep blue. He wears tan breeches, a blue tunic that matches his eyes, a strange cloak whose surface blurs and shifts to blend in with his surroundings and a pair of black slippers with runes etched on the surface. You briefly catch a glimpse of the mithril shirt he wears under his tunic.
Athalorn Friday February 20th, 2004 3:28:06 AM
The newcomer relaxes slightly at the friendly welcome by the elf maiden. He loosens hs stance and his hold on the spear he carries, which seems to crackle with energy. "You are a lady of the forest, Olana? A Ranger? He seems pleased to have met someone like minded with whom he can make this encounter more cordial, and conscious of the defensive stance the others have made he tries to ease the uncomfortable moment....
DM Kent Friday February 20th, 2004 8:17:45 AM
Ingrge steps forward as well, you see a fairly tall elf wearing robes and carrying booth staff and sword. He is not very attractive, but that may be due to the mant scars that are etched into his face. While not appearing sad, it is obvious this elf has seen some hard things and is pretty no nonsense, and echoes Figment's question.
"My name is Ingrge Nightseer. Now, if you do not mind, please answer my friend's question. Who sent you here?" Please be quick about the answer as we have things we need to accomplish and have left one of them partially undone currently. Milo, Bert, Lian, If their answer is not satisfactory, make it mercifully quick."
That said Ingrge turns his back on the group and walks back to the nolonger hidden door and then starts going through several of his pouches..
Lian (Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance) Friday February 20th, 2004 6:43:42 PM
"Whatever you say Ingrge, quick and clean." Says the monk idly and naturely.
As Athalorn greets Olana, Lian sees a his slight interest in elven ladies and can't help but to be a bit jealous of the NEW ranger in their midst. Lian 'sizes' him up and gently takes Elese's hand and whispers to her. "I don't like the looks of these two. They both showed up too quick, stay by me. The one has a strange accent."
************************************************* Lian has platnum blonde hair, short on the sides with waste length braids growing off the top. He stands 5ft 3in tall and looks to be around 100 pounds with light green eyes.
The elven monk is very graceful, slender and relaxed. Lian wears bracers, gloves, heavy cloak, travel gear and lightly packed backpack.
Milo Friday February 20th, 2004 9:12:58 PM
As Ingrge moves back, Milo moves up to stand next to Olana. The halfling's grin vanishes, and a look of seriousness.
Brother Bertram Saturday February 21st, 2004 8:31:00 AM
Bertram grins hearing Ingrge's answer. "As you wish, Friend Ingrge." He shrugs at the two newcomers. "I would answer him quickly if I were you. He is impatient for an Elf. I myself am Brother Bertram Trothgard, Cleric of Domi, and Apprentice to Gargul. If you be friend, then Welcome. If not...", Bertram trails off and waggles the axe in thier direction. Bertram is a squat dwarf, broad of shoulder and short of stature. His grizzled beard is dark with a few streaks of premature gray. His armor appears chipped and dinged, but has suffered no damage that has not been immediately repaired. The axe is obviously a rare, powerful item, its edge gleaming even in the darkness of the tunnel. Around his neck hangs the symbol of Domi, and on his hand curiously, you also see the Eye of Gargul.
Athalorn Sunday February 22nd, 2004 3:57:36 AM
Hearing the words of the tall elf, the newcomer speaks louder that he may hear, and with a hint of rising anger. "I have been sent by my hierophant, the leader of the Sacred Circle of Culverwood, to help a group of companions who seek to overthrow the rule of Parnoth. I was not told to expect such an icy reception by an elf. I know not why I was asked, but am bound to stay by my allegiance to the Circle." Again he aims his words at the elf who seems not to wish to speak directly with him, "Perhaps I could return, saying that I was not welcome, and that one of the party did not wish my help?"
Figment Sunday February 22nd, 2004 3:08:53 PM
The mage maintains his stance. "Please understand, sir. You have come up behind us as we are being accosted by numerous foes. We have had many people use intrigue as a weapon to garner our trust. Anyone can come up and say what you just said, but few could name the druid of whom you speak. I am asking for the heirophant's name not just what he is. He is wellknown to us. Name him and it will be much easier for us to accept your story.".
Brother Bertram Sunday February 22nd, 2004 5:10:27 PM
Bertram grins at the fellow's outrage at his 'reception'. "Since we didn't even know you were coming, we can hardly be blamed for being careful now can we? Mayhap if you calm down a bit and get your feathers out of a bunch, and we can get Friend Ingrge to acknowlege you are perhaps not a Demon or Dragon in disguise, we can make preparations to welcome you more fully". Bertram scratches at his beard for a moment, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
Olana Sunday February 22nd, 2004 6:35:55 PM
Olana keeps her stance unthreatening. Her smile diminishes slightly as she glances at the rest of the group. By all the trees in Culverwood they were becoming a suspicious, hardened lot - expecting treachery around every corner. She finds herself torn between trust and 'better safe than sorry'. Of course she was fairly sure that once this little name hurdle was over, then that would be that. But then she got to pondering. What about the other chap - the one who looked like he could crack a rock with a single head butt?
Olana starts to fidget.
Gunther Sunday February 22nd, 2004 10:58:56 PM
The bulky man smiles a mischievous grin. "Vell, dis is less dan a varm velcome. You vould tink I vas trying to sell holy water at an undead convention!" The man lets out a quiet chuckle at his own joke. Though his eyes retain a mirthful look, his face shows that he is all business especially when all the threats start flying about. His hands never head toward his still SHEATHED sword, but his grip does tighten on his torch. It looks as if it were to come down to a fight it probably wouldn't be as "quick and merciful" as others might think. Still, other than his white knuckle grip on the torch, his body language is altogether unthreatening. He rubs his chin at the other's questions. "I know nothing about a heirophant...I vas asked by an old man vith strange clothes... He vas a very odd man...and either he vas talking vith himself or he had an invisible friend who he kept calling Mohannin. He said that de Talons ver needing help...but as I said...he vas very odd. If you are not de Talons, or are not needing help I apologize. If I am not needed I can always return to hunting..."
Athalorn Monday February 23rd, 2004 3:09:38 AM
Listening to the replies his temper had received, the druid calms a little. "Ah, that I were a demon or a dragon. But nay, I am as you see. A traveller from the Culverwood. My Hierophant is, as this stranger mentions, Mohannin. Perhaps the elf over there will remember that Mohannin once pressed him to speak to a tree, to ask if it was being abused?"
He pauses a moment, and notices Olana's nerves. Smiling, he goes on. "The quest you undertake is a valued one, paticularly among those who live in the forest. So might I join thee, that I may help?

Noticing Ingrge's fast fingers manuever for his pouch, the monk subtly moves, tugging Elese along, and stops beside the mage. He wants to be out of the way, just in case.
He pays close attention to the newcomers and watches them intently so he might become familiar with their body language. He hopes to spot weaknesses in their demeanor, but doesn't make it too obvious.(Sense Motive 23)
Athalorn mentions Culverwood and Lian's brain begins to turn, trying to place the man.(Int Check 21) Lian tries to remember from his wandering of the area around his monestary(he still carries the map of.)

Figment (Fly) Monday February 23rd, 2004 6:44:36 AM
The mage nods to the newcomers as they speak of things they could not have discovered without the old druid's help. "It is good to see our numbers replentished at this imperiled time. Your help is most welcome. Most welcome indeed. It is also good to hear of the Druid as we have not interacted with him since before the Wold was changed...". His face moves from pleasnt (and not strained) to a bit serious. "Time to get back to work...". He turns his attention to the door.
DM Kent Monday February 23rd, 2004 8:54:11 AM
Lian vaguely remembers some stories that told of a crazy hermit like druid that put himself to sleep. his sense motive check seems to show that these two young men are exactly what they say they are.
It seems that the mention of Mohannin's name and some of the other comments have done the trick and not only eased the tensions, but have opened the Talons to welcome their new members. As the welcomes continue and they take a few momnents to introduce themselves to each other and let each other know what and who they are, the tension in another area builds to a boiling point. As Figment turns back toward the door and Ingrge finds what it was he was looking for, the huge doors burst open with powerful force, followed immediately by an overwhelming sense of dread and fear.

A blast of powerful magic washes over Gunther as the doors open but he barely even flinches (Will=23!!). He reaches into his pack and withdraws a Shield of Faith potion and quickly gulps it down. Griping his two-handed sword in his left hand, he peers into the room beyond, knowing that it's not going to be anything nice (Spot=11).

Figment d20+9=27 Monday February 23rd, 2004 8:55:00 PM
The mage feels his dread grow as the raw power of the presence of a dragon washes over him - but thankfully it's not nearly as powerful as Parnoth's. He grits his teeth and stands firm successfully passing the first test. He hovers above the doors making sure to stay out of the direct line of fire from a breath weapon. He prays they don't have to fight as his spells are so depleted. Not much left...

"It's good to have you with us," she adds. She is just about to continue with a bit of friendly banter when the wall and door bursts open.
She can hear Milo alongside her, but its like he's down a tunnel or something, for there's something in her mind which wants to make her fall to her knees. "Oh...." she whispers, starting to back away.

Elese too succumbs to the fear and bolts into the darkness along with Olanna. (DC 19)
Lian is nearly caught off guard at the suddeness of the opening and the mental onslaught but manages somehow to remain where he is and face the door. (Will DC 22)
Most of our stalwart heroes somehow manage to rebound against the wave of fear, but Olanna is overcome and almost immediately she feels he mind overwhelmed and she turns and runs the other way, back down the tunnel into the dark where all the bones are.
The other seven heroes stare in astonishment at what is in front of them. The doors have opened onto a truly humongeous oval room. 120ft wide by 210 ft long. The room apparently has no cieling and the walls and floor glow and shimmer as if the sun was being refracted and reflected thousands upon thousands of times. This might be because strew all over the floor is more wealth than any of you have see or posibly even dreamed of. There are weapons and coins and jewels and gems and anything else you can immagine 6 inches deep all over the floor, with pieces of art and weapons and shields and mirrors and the such arranged on shelves on the wall. At the far end of the room there appears to be a much deeper pile of stuff. Maybe as much as several yards deep. and sitting on the top of all this is the largest Dragon you have ever seen. It too seems to glow with a light all its own and that light is a bright and shiny gold.
In addition to the feeling of fear that while diminished, still washes over our heroes, there is another sensation that pricks at your very souls. In addition to the fear there is an overwhelming sense of wrongness in this room.
Lian d20+13=31 Tuesday February 24th, 2004 12:51:49 AM
(OOC: Did Elese Save vs the fear?)
Lian looks on, as the two distinct feelings pass over him, the slight fear and enormous 'wrongness' of the enviroment. He thinks, 'Could it be another type of Dragon in disguise? Illusion? Or something else.' (Disbelieve Will Save 31, 35 if it's Enchantment.)
"Oh?!"
Athalorn d20+11=24 Tuesday February 24th, 2004 3:07:51 AM
Athalorn makes to run after Olana, but the room catches his sight. His jaw drops at the spectacle, and he speaks quietly, to no one in particular. "I have never seen so much treasure.." he is drawn toward the room, eyes wide at the treasure, but then something tugs at his mind, bringing him back to reality. "This cannot be true." he shakes his head (disbelieve will save = 24) trying to ascertain if it can indeed be true..
Gunther (AC21, HP60 Shield of Faith +3) d20+3=17 d20+1=14 Tuesday February 24th, 2004 5:49:42 PM
The large man's jaw drops in disbelief. He's seen a lot of things in his life, but this...this was...amazing! But something about it is wrong...Gunther racks his brain to figure it out (Disbelief=17, Spot=14). He reaches in his pack and quickly pulls out a Barkskin potion and drinks it down. Gunther follows the other's example waiting to see their reaction. After all...he doesn't even really know the mission.
Olana d20+5=18 Tuesday February 24th, 2004 7:23:56 PM
The sound of her breathing, the sound of her heartbeat, the sound of bones crunching underfoot. Fear pushes her on - amplifying that which helps carry her away from the thing beyond those doors.
Stop.... Milo and the others are back there.. STOP!
Olana struggles against her fears. ((Will Save DC 18))
Brother Bertram Tuesday February 24th, 2004 9:43:16 PM
Bertram grimaces seeing the party freezing at the feelings emanating from the vast chamber. He quickly utters words to Domi, to raise the spirits of himself and his companions.

Milo Tuesday February 24th, 2004 10:17:40 PM
Moving with lightning reflexes, the halfling turns, "I'm fine, but I'm going after Olana. I can't let her stumble around in the dark alone. I'll be back as quickly as I can stop her." Milo bolts down the passageway, running as fast as his legs will carry him.
Figment (Fly) d20+22=33 d20+22=25 Tuesday February 24th, 2004 10:40:21 PM
The mage decides to not come down from over the door. But hearing the gasps of the others he ascertains that there is a big shiny pile under the dragon. He considers his arcane knowledge of history and of royalty/nobility to determine if he should know this dragon (Arcana 33, Royalty 25).
DM Kent Wednesday February 25th, 2004 8:08:15 AM
As Figment racks his brain trying to figure out what dragon this could possibly be in the Dragon Heirarchy and comes up with nothing, several other things happen in simutaneously.
Milo turns and runs back towards where Olanna and Elese were running to.
Athalorn, Ingrge, Gunther, and Lian are trying to believe that what they see is not really there. and a deep voice resonates through the room eminating from the Gold dragon. The sound, if that's what it ruly is, seems to becoming from inside of you as well as outside of you.
"WHY HAVE YOU COME TO DISTURB MY REST? BY WHAT RIGHT, DO YOU EVEN STAND BEFORE ME. KNEEL NOW AND I WILL MAKE YOUR END A SWIFT ONE. NOONE IS ALLOWED TO PASS THROUGH THESE DOORS AND THEN RETURN TO THE WORLD OUTSIDE. IF I CANNOT LEAVE THEN NOONE SHALL!"
Etched into the words there is a definite sense of insanity, as well as lonelines and despair. You can also sense that there is truth and honor, in the words, being spoken. The Dichotomies found within the room and within the speech, aid our heroes in their disbelief and suddenly there is a shimmer and things in the room change a bit, but less than you expected.
The room size and shape does not change, nor does the lighting change very much as light is still being reflected and refracted from all the treasure on the walls, floor and pile. The treasure however, while still impressive is primarily to be found in the pile/bed beneath your host. Now, there still are quite a few things on the walls and strewn about the floor. Enough in fact to make anyone with the time and inclanation to sort through and collect it, but what has changed most about the room is that where there was just treaure everywhere you looked on the floor before, there are now bones. Bones of all sizes, many of them humanoid now cover the floor to almost mid calf, and will make walking and manuevering very difficult.
Probably the most significant change however occurs with your host. Where before you were seeing a huge and magificent Gold Dragon, you now see before you a huge Golden comclomeration of Dragon and machine. Somehow, sometime, somone encase the belly and lower extremities of this gold dragon into a golden colored metallic shell with eight clawed legs and many spikes and other protusions. The upper body, neck, head, tail, and wings are still dradon but below appears to be some sort of construct.
The sight makes you feel angry, sad and disusted all at the same time, with quite a bit of pity thrown in as well.
Gunther (AC23, HP60 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2) Wednesday February 25th, 2004 9:17:47 AM
Gunther is sickened by the sight before him. How anyone could do something that horribly evil was beyond his comprehension. He looks to the other, unclear as to what to do. "Should ve put de beast out of its misery?" he whispers to Ingrge.
OOC Holding until I see what the plan of action is.
Athalorn (AC22 incl Barkskin +3, HP 67 ) Wednesday February 25th, 2004 1:42:08 PM
Athalorn is frozen in disgust at the image he sees. His mouth still agape, but in loathing not bewilderment. This was so againt the ethos he followed, against the force of nature, that he had to do something. "We must destroy this abomination, my new companions." Nodding to Gunther, "Indeed, let us end this torment."
Brother Bertram Wednesday February 25th, 2004 3:04:31 PM
Bertram sees the creature before him but barely comprehends the atrocities that have been commited against the creature. Stepping forward quickly he speaks, "Hail and Well Met Good Dragon! I am Bertram Trothgard, Son of Elias. I am honored to be in your presence but cannot help but be overcome by the blasphemy that has been perpetrated upon you. As for the right? We claim no such right Good Dragon, We were sent here to seek help against an evil creature from the Emerald Kingdom. The Orb indicated that there was something here that would help to defeat the foul beast. I know not of such things being a humble Priest of Domi, but am assured that such is the case. But come, Is there nothing we can do to ease your suffering? My heart is torn at such a sight." Bertram holds steady, his axe lowered, waiting to see if the dragon will even bother to converse in its agonized and deranged state.
(OOC Bertram is trying to treat the creature as sane in the hopes maybe it will hold it together a little longer but we shall see! :) )
Lian Wednesday February 25th, 2004 5:20:40 PM
The monk isn't sure whether to be shocked, honored, or disgusted at the sight of the former magificent Dragon.
He sees what Bertram is trying to do and attempts it too. He talks with the dragon in a non-pitying and caring way. *SPEAKING DRACONIC* "We indeed seek an evil, but I do not believe you are it. Sire Dragon, before there is to be another battle in this beautiful Lair, can I ask you your name?" If the dragon is inclined to converse, Lian will continues in Draconic. "How long has it been since you were outside? Maybe we can help, if your so inclined Sire." The monk seems entirely truthful in his statement and harbors no threat toward the Dragon-construct.
Olana d20+5=13 Wednesday February 25th, 2004 5:29:17 PM

Olana still continues her struggle with the fear that urges her down the tunnel. By all the trees in Culverwood, it was horrible.
Milo Wednesday February 25th, 2004 9:15:24 PM
Milo pushes himself, sprinting for all he is worth after Olana. "Olana, please stop... its okay... just a dumb ol' dragon."
Figment (Fly) Thursday February 26th, 2004 6:53:54 AM
The mage decides to wait where he is out of blast range. If Bertram couldn't bend it's ear he sure couldn't - and there was no reason to invite getting blasted...
DM Kent d20-3=-1 Thursday February 26th, 2004 7:47:35 AM
The beast seems to be trying to listen to Bertram and Lian, but it is obvious that it is getting more and more agitated and when Lian asks about the outside and helping the beast seems to just about lose it.
The group is nearly blasted backwards by the power and sound of his voice.
"HELP! HELP! IT WAS YOUR KIND WHO DID THIS TO ME AND SET ME HERE NEARLY 700 YEARS AGO! HOW DARE YOU HAVE THE TEMERITY TO ASK IF YOU CNA HELP ME? AS FOR YOU, YOU FUZZY PUPPET, WHAT DOES YOUR KIND EVEN KNOW ABOUT EASING SUFFERING? IS THE DARK LORD PULLING YOUR STRINGS TOO? "
With that last word the beast, apparently more nimble that it appears, leaps of this bed and lands, with a loud clank, in the middle of the room, facing the two speakers, 100 ft away.
Brother Bertram Thursday February 26th, 2004 7:39:57 PM
Bertram gives Lian a warning look noting the dragon's growing rage at the mention of help. Looking up and meeting the creature' gaze, Bertram speaks; "Good Dragon we would not deem to think ourselves better than you at anything we attempt. Your kind was old when my kind first started roaming the earth. As to help, it appears we came seeking yours, Creature of Good. For the Orb leads here. Bertram looks up at the enraged Dragon with a a look of resolve. As to your claims we are creatures of the Dark Lord, this I must protest Lord Dragon. I am a servant of Domi and apprentice to Gargul. I have no set with the Dark Lord and his ilk. If you can see through your pain you will realize I speak the truth. There is no evil here, Lord Dragon, just mortal folks with all of thier shortcomings. Forgive my clumsy words and look at our hearts and judge for yourself. Bertram bows politely and waits for a response.
(OOC hopefully a GOOD response lol)
Olana d20+5=6 Thursday February 26th, 2004 9:11:10 PM
(Rats! A six :( )
Olana's breath is becoming ragged. She can hear Milo behind her, and she is becoming confused. Running... but why?
Figment (Fly) d20+22=38 d20+22=30 Thursday February 26th, 2004 9:53:11 PM
The mage maneuvers so he can get a look in the room but still avoid the breath weapon. He looks around at the area to see if he can determine if it was a spell or breath weapon that caused the piles of bones and in either case, what kind (38 Arcana, 30 Spellcraft).
Milo Thursday February 26th, 2004 10:39:45 PM
"OLANA!?! please stop! Its okay... I'm here to help." Determined, Milo pushes on, hoping that his voice might bring Olana to her senses.
Gunther (AC23, HP60 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2) Thursday February 26th, 2004 11:30:40 PM
Remembering back to the last time Gunther tried out diplomacy, Gunther idly scratches his neck. Funny how he could still feel the ants crawling all over his body. Who would have know that they would have buried him up to his neck in a "fire ant" hill???? Trolls, bah!! No sense of humor! No...better leave the talking to those to whom it was better suited.
Gunther keeps a tight grip on his two-bladed sword and tries to manuever out of the way of the dragons head. He maintains a strictly defensive stance...crouched down low with his weapon close to the ground...just as Grell taught him. If the talking didn't work out there would be plenty of time for action.
Athalorn Friday February 27th, 2004 3:06:42 AM
The druid seems reluctant to let the others talk their way out of this situation. Pity and anger had overwhelmed him at the site of this - creation, and an urge to end the suffering of the beast.
Athalorn was't naive, however, and had faced a dragon before. A young one at that. And he was quite sure that this creature, even with it's evil torment, would be a dangerous foe. And so he holds his stance, still clutching the spear that crackles with energy, and following Gunther's lead allows the diplomats among his new companions to try their talk...
Lian Friday February 27th, 2004 7:04:00 AM
The monk gapes, realizing he screwed up and suddenly back-peddles his statement. *Still Speaking Draconic* "Indeed My Lord, I meant no disrespect! I am sorry." He bows low. "I seek only wisdom and knowledge from all wise creatures. I have no malice in my heart. Look inside me, you will see." The elf kneels on one knee to the the dragon he is indeed no 'Dark Lord Puppet'.
DM Kent d20=5 d20+7=18 Friday February 27th, 2004 11:12:01 AM
Milo catches up to Olanna and Elese just as they are about to start climbing the ropes back above ground. Almost as if his presence was all that was needed, Elese stops and shakes her head for a moment, and then seeing Milo nearby, she rushes over to him and throwing her arms around him plants one right on his lips. "Oh I just new that you would be the one to come and save us. You are so brave and heroic. We were both soo scared, I think perhaps it was more than Olanna can take. I do hope she will be alright. Shall WE see what we can to to bring her back to us? What do you suppose that was? Was it truly a Dragon? What kind is it? Milo will save DC17Olanna wil Dc 10 to come back aware
Figment scans the room for signs and definitely sees signs of charing and of what might be acid, but he also see quite a few that are just plain crunched upon.
Gunther and Athalorn, torn with the desire to fight and the desire to live, hold off on attacking until negotiations break down. They do however work their way into the room a bit more spreading out to each side.
Ingrge moves up and to the side of the entry opposite Figment and continues to listen.
Lian does his best to overcome his previous gaff and ends up kneeling on the florr infront of the huge beast.
Bertram eases back into his sleazy used flying carpet merchant role and seems to be having the dragon at least partially listening....

The Dragon appears to have settled down a bit as Bertram and then Lian speak again. He particualrly settles down a bit after Lian kneels.
"Now, that is the proper respect one should show to me." You don't toatally reek of the Dark Lord, but there is something...." As for the nature of evil... that is another thing. I sense no ture evil, but it is here none the less." "WHAT DO YOU KNOW OF PAIN!" "YOU encase yourselves in metal of your own free will. THINK YOU THAT I WANTED THIS, LET ALONE DO IT TO MYSELF." No, it was YOUR kind along with others, who did this to me and set me here. I am soo tired and weary."
He goes silent for a moment and then his head snaps up and a black gleam is in his eyes as he looks and sees that Gunther and Athalorn have moved into the room slightly to each side.
"WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DEALING WITH? DO YOU THINK I WILL LET YOU FLANK ME? JUST BECAUSE I HAVE NOT BEEN IN THE OUTSIDE WORLD IN A LONG TIME, DOESN'T MEAN I AM STUPID IN THE WAYS OF WAR!
As he finishes yelling two of his metalic clawed legs come up off the ground and point toward Athalorn and Gunther and two streams of viscous yellow liquid shoot forth in a narrow stream. 26 points of acid damage (Relex Save DC21 for half damage)
Brother Bertram Friday February 27th, 2004 1:14:17 PM
Bertram holds his ground, as the others are attacked. "Forgive my companions, Good Dragon. They mean no disrespect and will not repeat those actions. Let your warning serve to keep them at bay. As to your assertion that it was my kind, Good Dragon I apologize for any such evil they commited against you. But even you must know how unseemly it is to blame a race, for the evil of a few. Whether it be dwarves...or dragons. And as to proper respect, if kneeling is more appropriate then I am not unwilling. But tell me this please, Is there no solution to the problem we have Good Dragon?" Even as he asked, Bertram looks to the others, then kneels.
Milo d20+8=16 d20+16=32 Saturday February 28th, 2004 3:41:58 AM
Milo pushes Elese away violently, his short sword springing to his hand in a blur, "Lady, I don't know who, in the name of Pantheon, you think you are, but if you ever touch me again, much less kiss me, I'll gut you like a fish. That..." and Milo gestures toward Olana, "Is th woman I love, and I won't have you defile my person, in or out of her presence." (OOC: Made will save DC 16... then spent 1 hero point for a reroll and 4 to add +8 additional... to get a DC 32.)
Athalorn (HP: 41 OF 67) d20+6=16 Saturday February 28th, 2004 4:19:41 AM
Athalorn is knocked backwards almost to the cavern wall by the jet of acid, and collapses to the ground with the force of the liquid. Focusing as best he can to endure the agony, he rises to his knees, and finds he can rise no further. He is angered at the dragons move, but now conscious that this was a formidable foe. From the corner of his eye he sees Bertram kneel. Although not on his knees out of respect, he remains in that position, lest he meet with an unfortunate end so soon...
Gunther (AC23, HP47 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2) d20+6=21 Sunday February 29th, 2004 10:25:46 PM
His senses honed from his years in the wild, Gunther hears the acid jet before it is released and rolls out of the direct path (Ref.=21) of the vicious liquid. It splatters across his arms and Gunther lets out a primative growl at the pain. He temporarily considers launching himself at the beast and hacking into it, but knows it would be sheer folly. Hoping that the dwarf knows what he is doing, Gunther forces himself to his knees.
Olana d20+5=19 Monday March 1st, 2004 1:44:15 AM
((19! Huzzah!))
Turning around toward the sound of Milo's voice, everything suddenly becomes clear. Why she should find her resolve now, is perhaps open to question. Maybe it was the distance she'd gained from the horror of the dragon, or maybe something passing to her from Milo - his declaration, love, determination - whatever it is, shatters her fears into a million fragments.
For a moment she stands looking at Milo and Elese, and then here eyes move beyond, toward the bend in the tunnel. She flings her arms around Milo in a tight hug. "I'm sorry," she whispers, "I didn't want to run away."
Stepping back, she adds - "We need to get back - to the others."
Something is bothering her about Elese. Something had passed between the other elf and Milo, but Olana is unable to focus on that. She wasn't sure what she'd heard, and they had to get back.
Lian Monday March 1st, 2004 4:31:16 AM
Standing firm, the monk grits his teeth, expecting the acid next.
*Speaking Draconic* Still kneeling, "Sire Dragon, I am sorry, I can not say honestly, that I know how it is to be 'encased' in steel. I have freedom of movement out of steel and understand your longing for release. Do you... can you believe that?"
"Do you have a name Sire? Can I be bold and ask that?"
DM kent d20+5=7 d20+16=35 d8+18=19 Monday March 1st, 2004 7:12:07 PM
Elese opens her eyes widely as Milo pushes her away, causing her to fall solidly upon her rear (dex roll 7). With tears in her eyes she looks up at the enraged halfling. "I...was...just.... showing... my ap...pre....cia.. tion and th ... th...anks.
About this time is when Olana comes around and runs up to and wraps her arms around Milo. Elese while still weeping is absolutely white and quiet.
The dragon seeing that the two have stopped moving and are on their knees, turns back to Bertram and Lian with a quizical tilt to his head?
"Not fair to judge all by a few?" Tell me Dwarf, and be honest if you can or dare. Do you not covet the wealth you see before you? Can you truly declare that if I were not here, or I were dead, that you would not avail yourself to some, if not all, of what you see here? If so, then I prove my case. If not then why are you here?"
As Lian speaks the dragon tilts his head towards him. "NAME? I No longer have a need for a name. I .... have.... been... trapped ...here... encased... in metal... for more.... years ....than ...all ...of you... have... been ...alive ...in total... and not only do you continually remind me of that fact, but then you want me to remember what it was like BEFORE...... Just as suddenly as he arrived in front of them he leaps up and turns flicking his tail at Lian as he goes {AC 35, 19 Damage}, and lands on top of his shiny bed.
Brother Bertram Monday March 1st, 2004 8:05:42 PM
Bertram lets a glint of anger appear in his eye but keeps his tongue in check. He rises slowly back to his feet keeping the blade on the ground so his motives cannot be misinterpreted. "Good Dragon I beg of you to desist killing my companions. I think even you would agree it that it makes a discussion virtually impossible. Come, surely one of your power can ignore a few comments or gestures made in ignorance?" Bertram grins good-naturedly, "As to your treasure, Good Dragon. I would indeed be lying if I said it was not an impressive hoard. Dwarves do indeed covet gold and things of beauty. The only other race that comes close or perhaps surpasses us is, well excuse me, Dragons. Bertram grows serious. However Good Dragon, I can indeed dare to speak to you as to my intentions. I was sent here seeking something to help my kingdom. We did not expect someone to possess the device, especially not one of a good and noble race. This changes my position greatly. I no longer am here to plunder but to seek your wisdom in this matter. If you refuse my companions and myself will leave at once, your treasure, and your secret safe. If you agree we would be in your debt. Bertram speaks quietly, almost soothingly. "You are the greatest symbol of good and purity in our land, Good Dragon. I know you can read my thoughts and they are open to you as pages of a book. Read my thoughts, read my intentions and decide. I will say it one last time. We are not thieves and brigands sent here to rob you, just mortals sent here to try and make the world a better place. With your help Good Dragon, and the grace of Domi, it is possible." Bertram bows his head politely indicating he is done speaking.
Milo Monday March 1st, 2004 8:59:06 PM
Milo smiles at Olana, "You weren't yourself, that's for sure." Turning to Elese, Milo's stare becomes cold, "If you even look at me funny, I'm leavin' you strung out for the crows." Turning on his heel, Milo runs with Olana back down the passage.
Olana Tuesday March 2nd, 2004 12:49:02 AM
She could hear voices up ahead, some she recognised, one she didn't. Having scarpered before laying her eyes on the creature, she feels apprehensive on her approach.
And then there was Elese. Why did she feel something wrong, every time the female elf came near? It was more than the other's attitude, but she couldn't quite lay her finger on it, and she didn't really have the time to ask Milo about it. He obviously felt the emnity, too.
However - what lay in front was immeasurably more dangerous, and it was time to stick together, so at some point she will turn and make sure Elese is alright. This was no place to be alone.
Athalorn Tuesday March 2nd, 2004 3:04:42 AM
Athalorn remains on his knees, trying to listen to the conversation but also enduring the pain that still wracks his body, his skin burning from the acid. Finding something to focus on, he grasps the culverclove leaf in his pouch, and lets his thoughts drift to the forest that is his home...
Gunther (AC23, HP47 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2) Tuesday March 2nd, 2004 5:19:29 PM
Gunther's growl gets a little louder as the dragon swats Lian. His patience with diplomacy was starting to thin, but for the moment the man remains on his knees.... He will wait and see and then he will act if he needs to. Doesn't pay to be hasty when dealing with creatures of this magnitude.
Ingrge Tuesday March 2nd, 2004 6:01:32 PM
Stepping inside of the cavernous space, Ingrge looks around. Enough of this. Bertram, I think our frien is merely trying to weaken us one at a time so that we will be less of a problem."
Turning to each of the other three, in turn Ingrge tosses each a Cure moderate wounds potion. "Lian, Athalorn, Gunther, Drink!"
As Olana and Milo rejoin the group Ingrge turns and facesthe group, and quietly speaks.
Now then I think it is time we take matters into our hands. Spread way out, o that no more than one or two of us at a time cn be attacked by his breath weapon. If there is a way to not kill him and get what we need fine, but don't let that hold you back. missile weapons and magic first and then we move in. Any questions?"
Lian (hurt) 2d8(2+1)+3=6 Tuesday March 2nd, 2004 7:15:33 PM
Stunned by the 'swat', Lian finds himself on his butt, trying to move. "Ug." He catchs the potion for Ingrge and swallows it. (2d8+3, right? Healed 6.)
The monk is rather TO'd at these turn of events, diplomacy isn't working, reasoning isn't working and this 'beast' is talking us to death. Time for negotiation was over, even Ingrge thought so. He stands up. Whispering to Ingrge, "Need a distraction, Ingrge? To get those spells ready, or to wait for the others..."
Milo d20+15=17 d4+1=5 d6=3 Tuesday March 2nd, 2004 8:53:54 PM
Realizing that he has the shortest legs to stand on in this proposition, Milo stands right where he is as his friends fan out. Drawing his bow, he pulls and fires a silver fletched arrow at the dragon. As the arrow speeds toward its target, it becomes a bolt of icy death. (OOC: Drat... hit AC 17 for 5 hps regular and 3 hps cold. Though it likely doesn't matter with this attack... if it does matter later, assuming Milo hits, I'd like to point out that he has the scarab of golembane)
DM Kent Tuesday March 2nd, 2004 10:57:04 PM
Milo realizing that he is nearly 200 ft away from the beast knows he is likely to miss, holds his fire and advances slowly with the others.
Figment mooves into the room alonf the side thatAthalorn is on while Ingrge goes to the other. Milo, Olanna, Lian and Bertram take the middle area and spread across the room. Bertram seems a bit torn and reluctant but moves with the group in the end.
The dragon seems to be doing some sort of something at the far end of the chamber as you hear snorts and roars and lots of jangling almost as if he is psyching himslef up for the kill.
Athalorn 2d8(1+4)=5 Wednesday March 3rd, 2004 3:09:40 AM
On his knees still, the druid catches the potion thrown to him by the mage and thirstily gulps it down (2d8 = healed 5, is that right?)
Hearing the words of the magic user, and seeing the number of his new companions circling the beast, he finds faith and confidence. Still kneeling, he stands and starts to whisper a prayer again, of thanks, and moves slowly nearer the beast...
Lian Wednesday March 3rd, 2004 6:20:22 AM
Lian would hope that enhancement spells would be cast at this point, however, there's a MUCH larger issue clammering directly infront of the group.
He readies for any orders from Ingrge. He looks to the older elf hopefully. Then glances about for Elese.
Gunther (AC23, HP60 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2) d8+3=10 d8=5 Wednesday March 3rd, 2004 9:04:15 AM
Catching the potion, Gunther gladly gulps it down and rises to his feet. "Drat! We're going to have to cover this entire killing field before we get a chance at it." he thinks to himself. Shrugging his shoulders he begins to move toward the beast at the fastest rate possible.
OOC I don't think Gunther is allowed to actually move this round, what with the drinking of the potion and the rising to his feet and all. ;)
Olana ( HP 64, AC 16) Wednesday March 3rd, 2004 2:18:52 PM
Running along, Olana breaks left, and attempts to get into a position where she can start firing arrows.
Culverwood's oak trees, what kind of a beast WAS that? No wonder her subconscious had her running off up the tunnel. They were supposed to fight this thing?
Milo Wednesday March 3rd, 2004 9:02:35 PM
Milo continues charging straight at the dragon, covering the distance between them as quickly as possible. (OOC: Well... if I did nothing but move last round, and then this round... that should put Milo 120 feet away from the dragon)
Brother Bertram Wednesday March 3rd, 2004 9:16:18 PM
Bertram moves to cover his companions with true regret. The creature was obviously mad, not evil. He murmurs a prayer to Domi for protection.
(OOC Protection from Elements)
DM kent Wednesday March 3rd, 2004 10:33:35 PM
(OOC Healing potions should have healed 2d6+5 sorry I forgot to mention that.)
(OOC2 Any one who had spells cast upon them before descending should have around 8 rounds more remaining from each spell.)
As the heroes move forward silence suddenly occurs front the other end of the room. Moments later you hear a deafening roar and the beast starts chrging toward you.
Athalorn (HP 54 of 67, AC 22 incl Barkskin +3) 2d6(2+6)+5=13 3d6(3+5+4)=12 Thursday March 4th, 2004 3:10:00 AM
Now on his feet, and still whispering a prayer, the druid grasps the culverclove leaf with his left hand, and with his right that caries the spear he stretches his hand out, urging nature to unleash her power. Once the dragon is within range of the druid (180') he unleashes the spell toward the monstrosity, focusing on the energy within him as the bolt of lightning powers down towards the creature. (ooc: cast Call Lightning - Damage 12, DC 18)
He reamins focused on the force, concentrating that he may call forth another bolt ...
Lian (Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance) Thursday March 4th, 2004 5:04:00 AM
OOC: Geez, I'm glad they changed Call Lightning in 3.5!!!
IC: The monk doesn't wait another moment, he speeds away from the dragons landing zone. He looks for an opportunity to strike, but not before the group is surrounding the beast.
(Dodge vs the MechDragon and taking a Total Defensive Standard Action for +6 dodge to AC, Lian's AC vs dragon is 31 for this round.)
Gunther (AC24, HP60 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2, Dodge vs. Dragon) Thursday March 4th, 2004 9:26:37 AM
A sad look on his face, Gunther runs as fast as he can towards the dragon. Doubtful that he will clear the killing zone before the beast can make an attack, Gunther mentally prepares himself for the agonizing burn of the acid that he is doubtless to feel again very soon.
Olana ( HP 64, AC 16+2, Bulls Strength, Cats Grace) d20+12=20 d20+12=18 d8+5=7 d8+5=13 d20+13=22 Thursday March 4th, 2004 11:52:06 PM
Gritting her teeth as the monster charges, Olana lets off two arrows from her bow. She then looks for a place where she might have a bit more cover. (Spot DC 22)
Hits AC20, Ac18 for 7 and 13 Dam (+1 Dam if the creatures is a 'magical beast').
(Higher Cats Grace Dex bonus and Rapid Shot penalty cancel one another)
Milo Friday March 5th, 2004 12:01:16 AM
Milo continues moving toward the dragon, a look of pure determination on his face. His bow is in hand, and a silver fletched arrow is nocked. (OOC: Milo should be 80 feet from the dragon, not counting the dragon's movement.)
DM Kent Friday March 5th, 2004 6:47:18 AM
Milokeeps moving and hasto turn suddenly as the dragon passes overhead and lands some 50 feet behind him.
Olanna lets fly with a couple of arrows which clank off the dragons metallic bottom half.
Nearly simultaneously Ingrge, Figment and Athalorn send up and bring down bolts of lightening on to the grand beast and stand shocked as they watch the beast apparently absorb them without problem and without any mark.
Bertram is possibly the most surprised as when the dragon lands, it lands with its gaping mouth just about 2 feet behind him.
Like Athalorn, Gunther too finds himself closer but not quite close enough for anything but spells and missile fire. (both about 90 ft)
....
(The Dragon's AC is 25)
DM Kent (continued) 8d10(1+3+7+10+2+4+10+2)=40 Friday March 5th, 2004 6:53:04 AM
With a mighty roar the dragon lands and then with Bertram and Olana in front of him he lets lose with a belch of flame that surround the two stalwart heroes. Both Olana and Bertram take 40 points damage (Reflex save DC 23 for half damage)
Gunther (AC24, HP60 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2, Dodge vs. Dragon) Friday March 5th, 2004 9:01:06 AM
It doesn't take a genius to realize the dragon's tactics...attack and then fly away. Gunther realizes that if something isn't done quickly, the dragon would slowly beat, burn and fry them to death. While he would like to hold off and let the spellcasters do their magic, Gunther feels that it is more important to try and act now. Throwing caution to the wind, Gunther runs head long toward the beast, hoping to cover the ground and perhaps be able to attack next round.
Athalorn (HP 54 of 67, AC 22 incl Barkskin +3) Friday March 5th, 2004 1:32:27 PM
Somewhat disheartened when his magic has no effect, Athalorn finds it difficult to remain focused on his spell. But the energy is still within him, and almost as soon as the last bolt of lightning has vanished, he calls forth another, directing it to the centre of the beast
Athalorn 3d6(2+1+3)=6 Friday March 5th, 2004 1:36:02 PM
(ooc: apologies - damage from lightning is a pitiful 6, DC 18)
Milo d20+15=35 d20+15=21 d20+10=12 d4+1=4 d6=1 Friday March 5th, 2004 8:49:54 PM
Milo stops in his tracks, turns, and lets two silver fletched arrows take flight toward the dragon. (OOC: First attack was a crit threat with a natural 20, though I doubt that AC 21 confirms. 2nd attack misses on AC 12. The one frost arrow does 4 hps regular damage and 1 hp frost damage).
Lian (Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance) Saturday March 6th, 2004 12:55:58 AM
Lian knows that he's not going to be much good against a construct, or even a dragon. So the monk dashs toward the pile of loot to see what the beast was playing with a second ago, maybe it would of some interest.
Depending on the height of the pile of loot, Lian should be able to be on the other side by the end of the round.
Olana ( HP 64, AC 16+2, Bulls Strength, Cats Grace) d20+9=21 d20+9=25 d20+12=25 d20+12=24 d8+5=8 d20+13=28 Sunday March 7th, 2004 11:24:03 PM
(Re-rolled using hero point for successful save. No damage due to Evasion.)
It was a shock to see the dragon so close, and it took something extra - some kind of deep, self preservation to get clear of the immediate danger.
She fires again, this time looking for something that might weaken the beast. (1 hit by my reckoning for 8DAM) (Spot DC 28) (Any sigh of an on/off switch, Kent? ;) )
Brother Bertram d20+5=16 d20+5=20 d20+8=20 4d8(1+4+8+1)+8=22 Monday March 8th, 2004 4:38:43 AM
Bertram tried to move out of the path of the oncoming wall of flame but failed to dodge the blast. The prayer to Domi had protected him some, but not against all of the creatures attack. Bertram quickly prays to Domi as the pain envelopes his battered body.

Ingrge HPs72/AC23 (stone skin, cat's grace) 3d6(3+6+2)=11 Monday March 8th, 2004 7:48:47 PM
Stunned that his bolt had no effect Ingrge immediately casts another spell. Phantasmal Killer. (Will DC 19. If fail, then Fort save DC 19 or die. If save with Fort, then takes 11 points)
DM kent d100=68 Monday March 8th, 2004 7:59:04 PM
Athalorn is once again shocked as his bolt of lightenng is apparently simply absorbed with no damage.
Gunther makes his run and is breathing hard but is within striking distnce of the beast.
Figment's spell goes off and even manages not to catch any allies in it and suddenly the room is filled with the sound of hail stones striking metal.
Olana doges in and out of the flames and then sends her arrows arcing towrds the beast and watches as one glances off of the gold metal and one somehow seems to strike home.
She does not however see anything that even remotely looks anything like a on/off switch.
Milo too watches as one of his arrows finds a home in the beast.
Bertram keeps the home fires burning a bit and then casts a spell upon himself.
Ingrge casts his spell and awaits the results.
Lian makes a dash onto the pile of treasure where the beast once was and starts searching for something. he finds the area where the beast was, and finds that figuring out what might be here of interest might take a few minutes unless luck is with him.

The beast recoils a bit from the onslaught of the ice storm, arrows, and Ingrge's spell seems to have it bewildered for a moment, but that passes all to soom. and momnets later the beast's frenzied attack begins in earnest. Two claws dart out kind of awkwardly at Bertram and scrape across his front without damage, but those are followed up with a not at all awkward lunging of the jaws which snaps onto his body fiercely. (18 points)
Ingrge also feels his the wrath of the beast as its tail comes whipping around sending the poor mage flying across the room.26 points
Milo d20+16=34 d4+2=6 Monday March 8th, 2004 8:41:25 PM

Bertram groans at the pain as the dragon slowly closes its jaws. As Bertram struggles he begins to grow angry. His peace request rebuffed, his beard singed and now this creature biting on him like a cheap sweetmeat, Bertram retaliates. As his anger increases he feels the power of Domi infuse his body. With a roar he sends the axe further into the creature's tender throat muscles, driving the point deep into the dragon's flesh before turning the blade deftly, gouging furrows into the fatty muscle. Bertram recalled that he had had some experience doing just this before but that foul beast was nothing besides this monstrosity... (OOC Divine Feat of Strength Damage 28 (if Chaotic 46))
Gunther (AC24, HP60 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2, Dodge vs. Dragon) d20+13=31 d20+8=24 d20+13=17 d20+5=20 d8+8=9 d8+8=14 Monday March 8th, 2004 11:03:41 PM
Panting, Gunther smiles in grim resolution...the beast must meet its end. He wages a full attack on the back of the beast, hoping to make a dent in the creature's defenses. His first attack (AC31 for 9dam...what a jip!!!!) proves well aimed, while all of his other attacks glance harmlessly against the metal shell, striking up sparks.
OOC Would Gunther be considered in a flanking position with Bertram? If so, then Gunther's second attack also connects (14dam).
Lian (Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance) (47of60hps) Tuesday March 9th, 2004 12:39:28 AM
OOC: F. Seal of Luck: this seal, when broken, ensures that its owner will enjoy a single stroke of unusual luck in the following day. The choice of the exact effect is left to the DM.
IC: Lian removes a disc from his pack and breaks the seal and hopes it helps. He continues to look for the mystery item(s).

The druid eases on his concentration, allowing the rest of the call lightning spell to pass, as it is clearly having no effect on the dragon. He breathes heavily, then seeing the monster may be vulnerbale to other elements quickly comes to a decision. Tapping his heels together (ooc: Boots of Speed = Free action Haste) he drops his spear to the ground, and with his free hand holds the culverclove leaf firmly in his grasp. He rushes to a space where there are no allies in his path (ooc: toward the entrance slightly? Pointing once more to the beast, and whispering to himself, he calls forth the power of nature again and unleashes another spell, hoping not to injure any of his companions.
(OOC: Cast Ice Storm at Dragons flank - 6 Bludgeoning Damage and 9 Hail damage - No save)

Seeing magic being hurled forth by Figment and Athalorn, Olana stays back and keeps firing.
One arrow goes wide, the other sticks into the dragon's hide. (Yeeesh - a lousy 6 points!)
Biting her lip, she hopes the beast doesn't swallow Bertram whole.
Ingrge Tuesday March 9th, 2004 6:15:29 PM
Brushing himself off as he slowly gets up off the floor Ingrge steadies himself and wonder silently to himself What have we gotten ourselves into? Shaking his head as if to clear the cobwebs, he ponders a moment and then once again starts to cast. Web spell aimed at the legs.
DM Kent d100=100 Tuesday March 9th, 2004 10:07:19 PM
Milo and Olana send their arrows arching in to the beast and are rewarded with solid strikes, or at least as solid a strike as an arrow can be against a beast of this magnitude. Milo INT roll DC 15
Figment and Athalorn are again rewarded by the definitive reactions of their areas spells that are cast at the beast and maybe just maybe it is slowong down a smidgen.
While being chomped upon Bertram somehow manages to wield his ax and with the good grace of Domi the smiting is mighty. Bertram now feels a bit slippery as the amount of blood surrounding him increases threefold.
Ingrge casts his spell and the Webbing spreads out along the beast's side and legs trying to entangle them.
Guther's charge into the fray, while valiant, is not as well rewarded as he was hoping, as his sword catches the beast with a glancing blow.
Lian looks around and in desparation rips off a seal and looks too Waard for help with his search. Un believably, as luck would have it Lian trips over some loose metalic balls and falls face first into the great pile of treasure. As he catches himself, his hands close upon a fairly large object below the surface of the pile. I can't believe I rolled a 100 When he sits up there is an extremely ornate 18 inch tall 10 inch square lantern in his hands. There is a slight green glow issuing from the lantern's light holes.

Whether due to the bad taste of cleric, or the fact that the beast doesn't like the feel of ax in his mouth, Bertram finds himself spat out onto the floor.
What happens next happens so rapidly as to almost baffle even the quickest witted and fleetest of foot.
Within the bat of an eye the beast whips around on Gunther and grabs him within his jaws 20 pointsand drops him as its tail nearly takes Bertram's head off 26 points as it leaves the ground and heads back to its bed with a shriek.

Milo d20+1=16 Wednesday March 10th, 2004 2:00:29 AM
As Milo moves toward the dragon, he sheaths his bow, and draws his short sword. He gives the heavily enchanted blade a quick test whirl as he looks for the best place to stick it in the dragon. (OOC: Made Int check DC 16)
Lian (Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance) (47of60hps) d20+8=16 d20+4=20 Wednesday March 10th, 2004 2:50:09 AM
Things become clear to Lian as he picks up the lantern out of the pile. He looks at it for a second to figure out how the lantern works or what it does. (Knowledge Arcana 16, Search 20) He glances at the balls he tripped on for a moment, then dismisses them. He quickly realizes that the dragon is returning to his 'bed'. The monk moves to the back wall behind the pile and raises it to smash it against the wall, but pauses, looking intently at the dragon bearing down on him. "Is this pretty thingimportant?"
Athalorn (HP 54 of 67, AC 23 incl Barkskin +3 and Haste +1) Wednesday March 10th, 2004 3:08:47 AM
Hearing the shput of Figment, Athalorn thinks momentarily if there was any more magic within him that could damage this creature. Suddenly, looking up, he murmurs another prayer to himself, focusing on the beast once it has moved. He runs towards it (ooc: under haste spell - needs to be within 45') and once he is close enough, but still near the cavern wall, he calls forth an icy vapour around the metallic parts of the beast. (ooc: Chill metal at metallic parts of the dragon - if it is magical metal dragon gets will save vs dc 17 - sorry thats the only cold spell I have left)
Gunther (AC24, HP40 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2, Dodge vs. Dragon) Wednesday March 10th, 2004 2:50:37 PM
Being very accustomed to wild animals, Gunther isn't surprised by the dragon's attack...any cornered and wounded animal would react that way. Blood flows freely from his shoulder as he once again sprints toward the fleeing dragon. Perhaps luck will be kinder to him when he catches the beast this time.

Brother Bertram Thursday March 11th, 2004 7:47:27 PM
Even as Bertram takes advantage of the dragon's movement, the dragon retaliates. Bertram is lifted and slammed to the ground by the creature's tail. Struggling to his knees, he once again calls on the power of Domi and focuses the energy on the distracted creature. Bertram quietly speaks one word directed at the mad dragon. (OOC Power Word Blind)

Lian has a pretty good idea that the item he is holding is that which the talons were looking for, but other than that has no real knowledge or comprhension about what it does.
Olana checks on Bertram as she runs by and for someone who hsa been swatted and bitten he looks pretty good.
Arrows fly and spells zip toward the beast but all know that for the next few moments it is the Beast's and Lian's show.
The beast drops down on to the pile of treasure and lashes out at Lian taking care to not hit the object he is holding. Two pointed claws dart out and strike at the little elf. the first mises as Lian swings the object around him but the second snakes through and catches him in the side 14 point
