Speaking of which - "Lian - hang on!!"
Two more arrows fly in the direction of the dragon. Both miss. (Drat!)

(OOC. this beast was written up as just plain being immune to certain types of spells)
Lian feels a bit more protected for some reason as the dragon again chomps down on the elf while trying to dislodge the lamp, but not succeeding. Lian takes 24 points all of which is absorbed/deflected/sloughed off by the stone skin spell. Lian nw finds that he is completely inside the beasts mouth and is now trying to be swallowed.
Bertram's spell goes off nearly directly underneath the beast causing a caucophony of clanging sounds and several chunks of golden metal fly off as the beast quickly moves off of the moving blades.
Gunther makes his attack and peels a sliver of golden metal off the beast.
Athalorn saw no apparent effect on the beast but then againthere was an awful lot of icy stuff going on as well so it is hard to say. He does manage to close with the beast and is ready to pounce.
Milo too closes in and finds himself in sword range of the beastie.
Seeing that he has more foes in front of him the beast raises his two front claws and acid once again comes steaming out at Gunther and Athalorn 24 point each reflex DC for 1/2 damage.

One of olana's arrows does indeed fly truly and imbeds itself in dragony flesh.
Athalorn tiger leaps high and lands on the dragons back and literally tears into its hide leaving several claw marks of its own in the beast's scaly hide.
Bertrm moves forward looking at the beast trying to figure out how he is going to reach Lian in order to heal him.
Gunther pauses to activate his tatoo and feels himself grow extremely stronger as Figment's spell takes hold as well.
Ingrge takes out a potion and then rips a patch off of his robe as he drinks the potion. Moments later everyone feels the effervescent feeling that accompanies having drunk a healing draught. Cure serious - 26 points to all Talons
Milo steps to the side of the dragon looking for away to be effective and not get toasted or stepped upon, and currently decides that putting forth a defensive stance would be best.
The dragon strikes out with his claws at the only target close by and somehow manages to get his front claws tangled together as he strike out at Gunther (Natural 1)

Knowing his Fireballs and Lightning Bolts are useless, the mage begins to look around the treasure trove for anything he might use to attack the thing with (Spellcraft 33, Arcana 38, Spot 19). He also decides once again - seeing the dragons troubles with his claws swoops down once more and touches Gunther. He feels much more fleet of foot and just plain quick when dodging and ducking. "Strike true and hard my new friend - or we all will suffer Lian's fate." (Cat's Grace +4 Dex on Gunther). He again gets out of range of the dragon. Figment looks around and sees al sorts of things that could aid in defeating this beast. There are any number of weapons lying around and many other things that could be magical that could possibly help. The closest weapons are a nice looking sword, and an ax and a quiver of 10 arrows. The closest possible magic looking thing might be a small box lying up against the wall.
Lian somehow manages to get an arrow out of his quiver and strike it into the tender flesh of the beast's throat. Hanging on with all his might when the beast shakes his head and roars, Lian is deafend and cant hear a thing now. Make a strength roll DC 17 or lose your grip on the arrow and slide into a gullet.
Olanna pulls her sword and lets loose with a strike that chipped a scale, while Athalorn tries to hold on and claw mightily at the faltering beast.
Bertram's glowing ax flashes into being above the beast and strikes down cutting into the beast's muzzle and adds to the critter's displeasure.
Gunther charges into the fray and finally feels his weapon bite deeply into the beast.
Whether due to the pain in his throat or the pain from the other attacks, the beast opens his large mouth wide and lets out a roar so loud that you ca feel the rock below you shake. Figment from his height can see what might be Lian hanging on to an arrow about half way down the beast's throat.

With a quick frown he looks directly over at Milo, and sees that it seems to be Elese that is kneeling next to him. It appears that she is bandaging Milo's open wounds and the such.
As Lian runs over to the halfling he finds that Elese is indeed working on the halfling and quite tenderly too. As Lian tells her rather abruptly to move she shifts out of the way a bit and continues working. Lian can tell that while injured and unconcious, Milo is no current danger of dying from his wounds.
Olana, and Athalorn continue their assault on the Constragon and stagger the beast once more and even Gunther realizes that somehow two of his attacks managed to make it through the beast's wavering defenses. As he marvels at this he notices something very large coming down at him.

Lian (Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance, Stoneskin?) (54of60hps) Friday March 26th, 2004 2:58:01 AM
Lian looks at Gunther, "New friend Gunther, the item I believe we came for is in the beast's gut. Help us cut it free. It is a lantern of sorts." Lian gives a brief discription of it.
Figment (Fly)[Subbing Jay B] d20+13=17 Friday March 26th, 2004 7:01:52 AM
The mage looks at the monk and fighter and shakes his head as he starts, unceremoniously, cutting into the fleshy bits of the construct(if any).
[OOC: If there are not fleshy bits to cut into, Figment will try to locate the whereabouts of the lantern by casting Detect Magic and using Spellcraft(17) to pinpoint it in the creature.]
Gunther Friday March 26th, 2004 2:42:38 PM
Gunther shrugs and begins hacking at the beast's stomach with his two-bladed sword.
Athalorn Monday March 29th, 2004 1:58:11 AM
Exhausted from his attacks, and from the energy spent on casting his druidic magic, Athalorn slowly begins tearing at the beast along with the others - his sharp claws ripping the dragons flesh.
DM Kent 6d6(5+4+1+6+5+6)+6=33 d4=2 Monday March 29th, 2004 9:10:16 PM
Olana darts over toward Milo and comes face to face with Elese as she rise from where she was tending to Milo and helps him stand. "Oh, he is going to be fine now. I seem to have stopped his bleeding and bandaged the worst of his wounds."
Bertram does indeed find that Moli is basically alright though a bit injured still but Elese is correct he looks like he is going to be fine and her bandaging job looks well done.
After a brief think Figment shakes his head and decides that a detect spel on the beast would just as likely light up the entire beast instead of show them anything interesting. Ingrge concurs and settles in to help carve the beast open.
After a good bit the still bleeding and worn out Talons manage to carve a hole into the metalic side of the beast. As Gunther's blade breaks through there is a loud sucking hiss and a green viscous liquid sprays out over everyone nearby and a noxious gas pours out as well. All but Bertram, Milo, Olana, and Elese roll reflex DC 19 or take 33 points damage, 16 damage with save) and then roll a fortitude DC 19 or lose 2 points of constitution.
Figment (Fly)[Subbing Jay B] d20+6=23 d20+5=25 Tuesday March 30th, 2004 1:08:28 AM
Being the first to cut into the beast, Figment is hit with the gas as well. (Reflex 23, Fortitude 25)[-16 hps]
*Kagh, kagh, gag*
Lian (Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance, Stoneskin?) (54of60hps) Tuesday March 30th, 2004 1:19:55 AM
Lian looks in horror as the gas fills a small portion of the room with its fumes.
"Uh oh."
He looks toward Elese with some concern.
Athalorn (HP 13 of 67, AC 23 incl Barkskin +3 and Haste +1) d20+6=16 d20+9=29 Tuesday March 30th, 2004 7:00:23 AM
The tiger is gouging at the beasts flesh when the liquid escapes, and catches him completely in the face. With a growl he leaps away from the carcass, collapsing under the pain. In tiger form though, Athalorn's body is resolute, and does not yield to the draining effect of the substance.
Gunther (AC26, HP20 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2, Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, Dodge vs. Dragon) d20+8=27 d20+7=15 d20+1=6 Tuesday March 30th, 2004 2:45:37 PM
The large man dodges the flying goo effortlessly, but succumbs to the gases. He looks over any goo that falls out, trying to spot the artifact (6) but can't see anything useful.
Brother Bertram 3d8(6+6+3)+8=23 Tuesday March 30th, 2004 7:45:17 PM
Bertram was just rising from examining Milo when he heard the screams. He turned in time to see everyone around the dragon's corpse, hit by some sort of viscous liquid and gaseous concoction. He runs towards them to help how he can, being careful to avoid the gas himself if possible, waiting to see if anyone can emerge on thier own. Bertram intends to heal the first victim that crawls free of the noxious mess.
(OOC If one crawls free Bertram cures 23 points)
Olana Tuesday March 30th, 2004 7:46:11 PM
The elf nods tightly at Elese. She'd done a good job, no doubt about that. "Thank you," she says. She's just about to launch into an -"Oh Milo, I'm glad you're alright!" when she hears the sickening hiss.
Uh oh.
DM kent d20+11=19 d20+11=25 Tuesday March 30th, 2004 9:50:02 PM
Ingrge manages to dodge most of the acid as it spurts out and drops to the floor to evade the gas, but curses as some of the acid eats through his clothes and into his skin.
**** The acid does its thing and wipes off fairly easily and once emitted the gas dissipates fast enough, and is gone by the time Bertram arrives. He sees with one look that both Athalorn and Gunther are seriously injured and casts his first spell on the tiger.
Milo smiles as Olana rushes up, face filled with concern and then they are all distracted by the loud hiss followed by a number of screams and curses.
There is now a head sized hole in the side of the beast. There is also a lot of treasure lying around. There is also a light green soft glow coming from within the beast's belly that even Guther can see.
Brother Bertram 3d8(4+2+4)+8=18 Tuesday March 30th, 2004 10:12:58 PM
Seeing a quick improvement in Athalorn, Bertram moves hurriedly to Gunther, laying his hands up the worst of the warrior's wounds. He feels Domi's power release through his fingertips into Gunther's torn body. (OOC Cured 18)
Athalorn (HP 44 of 67, AC 22 incl Barkskin +3) Wednesday March 31st, 2004 2:17:11 AM
The Tiger growls softly at Brother Bertram's help, then after checking that they are in no more danger, Athalorn paws backwards. After a short moment, his body twists and warps back into that of his human form. Some of his wounds seem to heal slightly during the transformation, but he seems tired.
"Thank you, Bertram, my friend," he speaks.
Lian (Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance, Stoneskin?) (54of60hps) Wednesday March 31st, 2004 7:10:29 AM
"That must be the lantern." Says the monk pointing at the green light imminating from the beast.
The monk suddenly realized he was indeed surrounded with treasure, however, having told the beast he wasn't interested in the loot, he hesitates at grabbing a pretty thing or two. He thinks to himself, 'I told the beast I was not interested in his gold, then he nearly ate me... now the dragon is dead and has no need for the loot. I deserve some recompense for his nearly killing me.'
The monk begins looking for a thing or two that might be of some value he will be able to carry out. [What he wouldn't give for a Haversack. Wait, he'll look for a Haversack among the treasure, then fill it! ;)]
Figment (Fly)[Subbing Jay B] -16hp Wednesday March 31st, 2004 7:15:44 AM
As the mage comes out of the noctious cloud, he begins trying to assess how to grab the lantern without being wounded.
"Lian, how heavy was the lantern when you held it?" Hoping the monk has a decent answer.
(If the lantern is about 5 pounds and he can see a part of it, Figment will cast Mage Hand and remove the lantern from the carcass.)
If he can't use his spell to grab it, he may just venture in to grab it himself.
Olana d20+13=23 d20+12=19 Wednesday March 31st, 2004 6:13:27 PM
The elf watches Bertram heal those inflicted by the poison and breathes a sigh of relief. "Even in death, the thing still had teeth," she says with a sigh.
Taking care of where she steps, she takes a good look around at what's lying on the floor in the cave. What a horde this was. Was it all gold and trinkets? Or would she find something that might help her fighting skills. ((Spot DC 23, Search DC 19))
She is in a somber mood. This dragon creature was mad - an abomination, but still - it all seemed such a waste. Everything had been kill, kill, kill for far too long, and it was beginning to chip away at her normally sunny nature. There was change ahead, whether she welcomed it or not.
Athalorn provides a distraction and she grins. "How do you do that?
DM kent Wednesday March 31st, 2004 10:18:43 PM
Lian doesn't respond at all to Figment's comments, nor does he hear anything else anyone is saying as yet, in fact there is just a dull pain in his head and a soft crackling that seems to be blocking everything else. As lian speaks he also seems to be speaking quite a bit louder than normal, though he doesn't seem to realize anything about that.
Using the mage hand spell, Figment does manage to get the glowing object out of the beast and it is indeed the lantern.
Things of interest that can be seen nearby the group.
* Lots of loose gems and coins * several swords * a handful of daggers * several shields * a small plain wooden box * 2 wands * a shiny headband * some amulets * several bows * several nice quivers of arrows * a great ax * a small battered looking lamp * a small silver box * a pair of jeweled gloves * a golden rapier * a beautifully gold and jeweled inlaid jade box * what looks to be a framed painting with a cloth draped over it * several small bags that seem to be filled with something * and the lantern
Figment (Fly)[Subbing Jay B] -16hp Thursday April 1st, 2004 8:34:37 AM
"This seems to be a good enough place as any to rest to replenish our strength." The mage finds a comfy place to rest his tired and exhausted mind. "Friend Lian, you are yelling. Why? I don't normally hear you yell for no reason." Figment looks around briefly to see if anyone else is down like poor Milo.
Lian (Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance, Stoneskin?) (54of60hps) Thursday April 1st, 2004 8:37:55 AM
Lian fingers his ears. "What Figment?" He bellows.
The monk looks around and seems to begin to panic as he realizes what may have actually happened.
He looks at Ingrge with actual fear in his eyes. Then he looks at Bertram his dwarven friend. "Bertram?" He shouts, with a quiver in his voice.
Gunther (AC26, HP38 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2, Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, Dodge vs. Dragon) Thursday April 1st, 2004 8:58:30 AM
Gunther smiles broadly at Brother Bertram's healing touch. "Tank you my new friend."
Gunther looks around in awe of all the treasure surrounding him. He watches as the monk and the elven maiden begin to sort through the treasure. "I vould be careful if I ver you, I've heard dat der can be cursed items in dragons treasure. Ve should have our friend de mage take a look at dem first."
Gunther grins at Figment's creative way of recovering the lantern. "Vell, I probably vould have just dived in and pulled it out. Your vay is much...cleaner." The large fighter winks at the mage.
Taking in the carnage and treasure around him, Gunther begins to contemplate out loud. "Yes, ve should rest...ve vill need to set up a guard and vatch." He looks around to see the status of the party. "I can heal somevon vith my tattoo...who is needing more healing?" he looks pointedly at Figment.
Olana Thursday April 1st, 2004 11:35:15 PM
Olana nods at Gunther's warning. Yep, it wouldn't surprise her at all if something jumped out and bit her, and of course she'd had a run-in with cursed items before. That armour....
As she looks around, Olana's fingers subconsciously wrap around a strand of hair that is pure white - not blond - white. Cursed indeed.
"You know I think we should get moving as soon as we can," she says to no one in particular. "We all know what its like here, and now that this dragon thing is dead, who knows what's going to come out of the woodwork."
She starts picking up gems, and there's a bow, and some arrows.
Athalorn Friday April 2nd, 2004 2:12:37 AM
Tired and drained of energy, and still sduffering from the wounds of the noxious liquid, Athalorn smiles at Olana's question.
"I have spent a long time living with nature as my only companion. As a Ranger I am sure you understand the power she can bestow upon those who gladly help its cause. It took me many years to learn how to grasp the power of nature that I may change my form." He smiles again, "It is good to have a fellow servant of nature to work with, Olana."
Ignoring the sparkling treasure around him, thinking it of no consequence, the druid speaks generally to the party. "Yes, let us leave this place. I feel that the walls are closing in on us, and I think we need the sky above us instead of these rocks"
Brother Bertram Friday April 2nd, 2004 6:57:04 AM
Bertram grins at Gunther when Lian cries out. Bertram looks at Lian with a growing concern in his eyes. Rushing to his friend he grasps his hands reassuring him that he was indeed, among friends. Bertram examines Lian, looking for any visible wounds.
DM kent Friday April 2nd, 2004 7:55:12 AM
Bert and Ingrge take a look at Lian but find nothing physically wrong with him that would point to his inability to hear. Shaking his head Ingrge looks the monk straight in his eyes and with exagerated movements says.
"Lian, It may only be temporary. We will have to wait and see."
"Gunther, it seesm that you, Athalorn and Olana are hurt the worst decide between you who needs it the most." Then I beliee we have a few potions we an avail ourselves of as well."
Ingrge too, eyes the arrows and makes sure that they are all picked up no matter who gets them. As to the rest....
"Why dont we take the small bags, the boxes, what useable weapons there are, as well as any miscelaneous small items we can carry, and then scoop up a bit of coin and gems?
As he is speaking he is staring intently at the hidden painting and then walks over toward it.
The over all feeling of the room now, even though physically darker, is much lighter. It is almost as if some sort of overlaying fear barrier is gone.
Gunther (AC26, HP38 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2, Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, Dodge vs. Dragon) 2d8(8+2)+3=13 Friday April 2nd, 2004 9:47:48 AM
Gunther nods at Ingrge's comment. "Right den. Ladies first." Gunther heads over to Olana and lays a massive, scarred hand lightly on her shoulder. A faint glow illuminates under his armor. Positive energy flows into Olana's body (healing 13pts). Gunther grins as the elven maiden is healed.
He shrugs at the conflicting advice of whether to stay or go. "Vell, dis place looks defensibile, but I can't say I like being here anymore dan anyvon else. Should ve head back through de tunnel? I vould be more dan villing to scout ahead or hold up de rear."
As he waits for the other's input, Gunther examines the treasure around him. He begins to gather up the weapons into a pile...trying to decide how many he could carry with him should they decide to leave.
Figment (Fly)[Subbing Jay B] -16hp Saturday April 3rd, 2004 6:05:44 PM
Figment takes a look at the wands, headband, daggers and jeweled gloves closely and packs them carefully away for future appraisal.
As for Ingrge's statement about Lian, he says to Ingrge, looking away from the monk so that he can't read lips, "It could be psychological or even some unknown effect we're not familiar with. The young elf has little experience with dragons let alone constructs. He could just be suppressing some sort of fear and that caused his deafness."
The mage bags up gems and platnum pieces. "No sense in leaving behind the obvious wealth." He focuses on rubies, emeralds, sapphires and gem encrested brooches.
He mostly bypasses gold, he figures someone else will retrieve it.
Lian (Bull's Strength, Bear's Endurance, Stoneskin?) (54of60hps) Saturday April 3rd, 2004 6:12:59 PM
The monk just stares as people try to talk to him.
"Well, it could make meditation easier." He laughs loudly, obviously trying to put a good light on his new imparement.
Lian's interest in the treasure lies mostly in the battered lamp [which he blushes off or rubs off some tarnish... yes, I had to do it ;)], jade box and the golden rapier, suprisingly. (OOC: Does the box have a latch or lock? If not, does it open easily? Lian wants Milo to look at the jade box.)
Brother Bertram Saturday April 3rd, 2004 9:06:18 PM
Bertram quickly dumps any thing with no personal value from his pack leaving it virtually empty. He scoops up all of the amulets, small boxes, etc. Basically anything that will fit in the pack filling it as much as it is able to hold. He picks up the great axe examining it with some interest, but moves on picking up as many gems as possible, quickly topping off his load. "I think we should all flee this place as quickly as possible friends. This treasure is worthless if we dont live to spend it. If we know the beast is dead, odds are that others know by now as well. Dump anything from your pack unless it is means something to you personally. Don't worry about carrying back a cheap bedroll when you could carry back gems and buy a 100 bedrolls. Anything we can carry let us do it quickly for Domi's sake!"
(OOC I am not taking any of this stuff for Bertram. He is merely trying to carry as much as possible from this place. I suggest we all do the same as quickly as possible. Anyone needing healing let me know in your next post. Kent I figured Bert can dump stuff and still have up to 250 pounds he can carry at a heavy load. More I guess if he wants to crawl hehe)
Lian (Jay B) Monday April 5th, 2004 3:00:02 AM
OOC: Who is going to take the loot to have it appraised at the Catacombs?
Is Milo and Elese getting a share? I suggest that Elese not get one.
Olana Monday April 5th, 2004 11:14:51 AM
Olana nods solemnly at Athalorn. "There is more power in nature than many would care to admit, and most choose to deny it's existance. It is a tool for them, resources, nothing more."
Gunther's healing brings an added sparkle to her eye. "Ooooh, thank you!" she says. She checks on Milo, then walks amongst the treasure pile, helping pick up whatever is fairly light and portable - gems - the bows, and the arrows.. "We don't want to leave here THAT hampered that we can't move out of danger," she warns.
Cocking her head to one side as she noticed Ingrge staring at the painting. "Ooooh, whats that?"
((OOC - Olana's spaced out, and often misguided sense of fair play will have her wanting Elese to have a share of the goods, too.))
Ingrge Monday April 5th, 2004 5:26:59 PM
Puzzled at hearing his name, Ingrge shakes his head for a moment and then turns to Olana. "It looks like a covered painting and I think I would like to see what is underneath the covering."
So said, Ingrge moves to the painting and whips off the cover.
DM Kent Monday April 5th, 2004 5:59:28 PM
Gunther does his healing magic on Olana and Ingrge then hands Athalorn and Gunther each a cure serious potion (3d8+5).
"Well ladies and gents I have two more of these and 4 cure light potions. Speak now or forever bleed."
He then makes his way over to the painting and after his brief conversation with Olana whips the covering off of the painting.
Underneath is probably the most GARISHLY framed portrait that you have ever seen. The portrait itself is extremely well done. In fact none of you have ever seen anything so lifelike that wasn't actualy alive. It is of what was obviously an older elven mage standing in front of the white tower that you are currently under. As you look at it (make spot check DC16) you think you see the mage's eyes blink, and was that his chest moving as if he was breathing?
In Gunther's pile of weapons (except for the axe, bow, quivers and golden rapier; are
2 long swords 2 short swords 2 great swords 1 Ranseur 1 nunchaku 1 double orc axe 6 daggers 3 shields 1 mace 1 staff 1 pair of spiked gaunlets 1 spiked chain 1 dwarven urgrosh
Olana grabs the bow and two quivers of arrows and then turns to watch Ingrge.
Figment gathers up the two wands, the headband and 3 amulets and then concentrates on picking up and filling a bag with gems, jewelry and platinum.
Lian rubs his lamp and the part he rubs shines up almost immediately. While doing so he notices a small catch near the top that is holding the lamp's lid in place. The engraved and bejeweled jade box is very nice and does indeed have a small keyhole and latch. there is no apparent key around, but it could possibly be unlocked. The golden rapier is suprisingly light and is sheathed in a golden silk sheath.
Bertram drops his load and starts scooping things into his pack including; the wooden box the silver box and the gloves along with the miscelaneous gems and coins that he scoops up he also sees several pieces of jewelry.
Milo and Elese also work on scooping some things up mostly working on the coinage and gems as well.
Athalorn feeling a bit closed in keeps a watch on the entry while his fellow adventurers collect a bunch of loot.
Brother Bertram Monday April 5th, 2004 7:23:11 PM
Bertram loads as much as he can, leaning towards the jewelry and gems(being higher valued) than coins but will make sure to take all he can. He keeps an eye on the Urgosh and if Gunther seems inclined to leave it he will make sure to take it along. He watches Ingrge to see what strange thing is hidden within the painting.
Figment (Fly)[Subbing Jay B] -16hp Tuesday April 6th, 2004 12:55:04 AM
Figment grabs up some daggers and continues picking up gems, the staff and the mace.
Lian d20+13=25 Tuesday April 6th, 2004 12:58:50 AM
The monk thumbs his ears again to *pop* the clog.
He notices the nunchaku, spiked chain and ranseur and picks them out of the bunch.
He then hands the short swords to the halfling. He is about to say something, then thinks twice about the content of the statement and avoids the subject.
(Spot 25 for the painting)
Athalorn (HP 44 of 67) Tuesday April 6th, 2004 3:09:57 AM
Athalorn thanks Ingrge for the potion, but hands it back. "Thanks, my friend, but save it for a time when it may be of more need. I feel stronger now and would not take a valuable item from you when ohers may use it more wisely."
He stands at the entrance to the cavern, watching for any signs of life. He can almost feel the coolness of the outside air on his face - or was he imagining it. He begins to get panicky, thinking of Glannath outside, and starts anxiously pacing around the entrance, looking back at the other companions from time to time to see if they are nearly finished what they are doing.
Olana d20+16=31 Tuesday April 6th, 2004 7:04:35 PM
((Spot DC 31))
Olana's expression is one of delight as Ingrge pulls off the cover of the painting. "Oooh, look its an elf!" she announces brightly, momentarily distracted by it. "Hey, did you...?"
She looks puzzled for a moment, and then waves at the image in the painting.
Gunther (AC26, HP38 Shield of Faith +3, Barkskin +2, Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace) Wednesday April 7th, 2004 1:20:08 AM
Gunther smiles at his companions and distributes the weapons to the others who express interest in them. He wouldn't dream of holding back the urgosh from the dwarf who helped save his life, nor would he keep the nunchaku, spiked chain and ranseur from the monk whose bravery and luck lead to the success of the mission.
Gunther pockets the potion given to him by Ingre. "I vill vat to see if ve run into more trouble today. If not, then I vill heal myself vith my tattoo tomorrow. No since in vasting such a handy item." he winks at the dour elf.
Thinking that Brother Bertram's advice is to be well headed, he dump out all of the less useful items in his pack and begins stuffing it with gems. He also checks to see how many of the weapons he can possibly pack out, though he pays particular attention to the spiked gauntlets, greatswords, and double orc axe.
DM Kent Wednesday April 7th, 2004 9:00:54 PM
As those watching the painting continue to watch it, it definitely moves again as it waves back at Olana. It stops waving a moment and then speaks.
"So young elfling, do you and your grandfather (looking directly at Ingrge) always stare and then wave at perfect strangers? I mean, not that I mind, mind you. After all, It has been a long time since I have had the chance to partake of pleasant conversation with anyone sane. You are sane aren't you? Speaking of sanity, where's ol' Brassbelly? Ah, he seems to have had a bad day. Of course, killing him might have been the kindest thing anyone ever did for him. Now, I don't mean to be nosey, but didn't I hear you tell his nibs that you weren't interested in his treasure? Of course now that he's dead, I guess it doesn't really matter any more. Oh my, I am so sorry. I seem to have forgotten my manners. Allow me to introduce myself. I am no other than Valor Jlacathra, the premier scepter of the ruling circle of the city. Or, I guess you could say was, as I have been dead nearly 800 years give or take a century. I mean, it is quite difficult to keep track of time, when one can't see the outside and is deceased. Of course, I suppose it could be worse......"
Ingrge looks around at the others, shakes his head and then shrugs. "Ok all, do we stay here over night to recover some spells, or do we venture forth virtually spell less?"
Brother Bertram Wednesday April 7th, 2004 10:30:35 PM
Bertram nods gratefully to Gunther, then turns about in shock hearing the painting 'speak' He listens as he idly reaches about gathering what he can. He looks up at Ingrge's question and considers it. "Friend Ingrge, I am concerned about what may be out there waiting on us. My fear is that they will try to assault us in here." Bertram sighs, "But perhaps defending this burrow is much safer than trying to survive out there in the open."
Figment (Fly)[Subbing Jay B] -16hp Thursday April 8th, 2004 12:10:04 AM
The mage is intrigued by the talking painting. "Must be a combination of Magic Mouth, Permanent Illusion and the ability create magic items."
"Hello, elf friend. You say you've been 'dead' for about 800 years? Are you a ghost sir?"
"I think Ingrge is right, maybe we should stay here and replenish our arsenal."
"We might be able to find a way to restore young Lian's hearing too."
Lian Thursday April 8th, 2004 12:21:42 AM
The monk struggles to hear even ONE word said.
He looks at the painting, "Is that painting talking?" He yells. "What did it say? Who is he?"
Lian will continue to collect items, coins, gems and anything left of apparent value. The monk does fill his back pack to capacity, however, he doesn't empty the old contents(Not having much in it to begin with).
Athalorn Thursday April 8th, 2004 3:00:36 AM
The druid walks back to the crowd when he sees the vested interest in the painting. He smiles when he sees it, thinking that magic users never cease to amaze him.
However, when the party talk of staying in this cavern, he interjects. "I will not stay in this tomb while we rest, but I see your logic Ingrge. Let me leave for the fresh air above, and I will scout the path ahead. If clear, I will come back and tell you in the morning."
Olana Thursday April 8th, 2004 10:41:22 AM
"Hey, Mr Jlacathra, would you like to come with us?" asks Olana, flashing one of her bright smiles. "We're trying to find the best way out of here before we all get killed."
Gunther Friday April 9th, 2004 1:40:52 AM
Gunther continues gathering loot while listening with interest as the painting chats with various group members. He perks up at Ingrge's mention of staying the night, then frowns at Athalorn's declination. "It is not vise to split up. It seems to me dat dis is a dangerous place. Vatever ve do, ve should stay togeder. Friend Adalorn I understand your aversion to dis place. It is abhorent. But do not throw avay such an easily defendible area so quickly. De bones demselves vill alert us to vons trying to sneak up. At least consider staying de night."
DM Kent Friday April 9th, 2004 8:34:23 AM
The Talons finish gathering what they think they can leave with. (I need a list of weapons and such that you are taking. I also need you to tell me what it is that you have used to collect/store/hold any coinage/ gems or jewelry in. If a list is not sent from each player, I will assume that player picked up nothing. I will take care of Milo, Ingrge, and Elese).
The painting continues to speak. I believe you should be fairly safe down here for the night It should take longer than a few hours for the worst of the problems to get here. As for going with you, why that would be great.
Lian (at least moderately encumbered) Saturday April 10th, 2004 5:28:57 PM
Lian's carrying these from the Talon treasure...
the battered lamp (backpack) the jade box (backpack, wants Milo to look at it) the golden rapier (straps to his hip) the nunchaku (tucked into his breeches) the spiked chain (draped over his shoulders) the ranseur (carrying) both(2) short swords (if Milo didn't take them, which he'll strap to his backpack) two daggers (strapped to belt)
...and coins, mostly gold and platnum top off Lians backpack, pockets(if he has any) and any jeweled necklaces around his neck (not amulets or magical pendants :))
The monk looks awfully funny and weighed down with the loot. He sits down in front of his backpack, slides both arms into the straps and the stands up using his legs, avoiding any injury.
Figment (Fly)[Subbing Jay B] -16hp (medium encumbered) Saturday April 10th, 2004 6:04:21 PM
He continues to focus on rubies, emeralds, sapphires and gem encrested brooches and varies other straggler gems, diamonds, pearls and rare stones. "Friends, there is still a shield or two here. And long swords too."
both (2) wands (where would a mage or DEH carry them???) the head band (hip pouch) the (3) amulets (hip pouch) the remaining (4) daggers (tucked into varies places, boots, robes, belt) all the gems and jewelry he can carry (large leather sack) platnum (pouch, large sack) the staff (carrying) the mace (hanging on his belt) a shield (strapped to his back, over the lantern) and THE LANTERN (which he covers, wraps, and ties into his cloak over his shoulder [like a make-shift child carrier])
Then the mage ponders a bit and covers the painting back up. "How should we carry him out?" Pointing to the painting. As soon as Figment has organized the treasure he is carrying, he sits down, leaning against a pile of coin. "I, for one, wouldn't mind staying here the night to study and examine the booty more thoroughly. It also might give our young elven friend time to recoup his hearing, maybe."
Olana Saturday April 10th, 2004 11:53:33 PM
Olana makes a small - "Tsk," sound, and when Figment turns away, she'll uncover the painting again. "He's a human," she whispers conspiratorily to the elf in the portrait. "Of course we might need to cover you up when we're traveling. Which would you prefer?"
Olana has picked up - the bow the 2 quivers of arrows Rummaging in her backpack, there isn't much in it, and she doesn't want to throw her potions, so she concentrates on gems and jewelry (she likes sparkly things) where she can find it, and pushes them in here and there until her backpack is at a point where she could still move without 'too' much encumberance.
Figment did have a point though, and she squints at the painting wondering how heavy and ungainly it would be to carry. She even lifts one corner, to check.
Gunther Monday April 12th, 2004 3:44:01 PM
Finding it very difficult to decide amoung all the weapons, Gunther settles on the two Greatsword, straping them to his back...the double orc axe...lashing it to his backpack...the gauntlets...tucking them into the backpack. He checks to see if he can lash the shields anywhere without being too encumbered. If he can't, he'll leave them behind. He smiles Ingrge. "Vell, if ve are going to stay here tonight, do you tink you can identify some of des tings? Might make it easier to tell vat ve really vant. But den again, you might vant to memorize spells to help us get out."
DEH Tuesday April 13th, 2004 7:28:12 AM
OOC: I'm back but it may take a day or 2 to catch up on the reading. I'll post for Figment today or tomorrow. Thx...
Figment Tuesday April 13th, 2004 7:56:00 AM
The mage brings up another subject. "Speaking of leaving... we need to revisit our instructions for getting out of this place...". The mage recalls the Talons conversations and instructions they recieved before starting this whole thing.
Athalorn Tuesday April 13th, 2004 10:40:52 AM
Watching the others, yet still unmoved by the treasures on the floor, the druid speaks up. "I will carry things for you if you would like." He hovers for a moment, and if asked will carry items for the companions, though not for himself.
"Are we decided on staying?" He speaks a bit more forcefully, "If so it is against my wishes, and would still like to offer to travel ahead to the surface. But if you would have us stay together we should rest now and leave at first light." He seems to be speaking generally, with a slant perhaps towards Ingrge.
(ooc: what time of day is it exactly?)
Ingrge Tuesday April 13th, 2004 5:51:00 PM
Ingrge is lost in thought, trying to decide the Talon's best course of action. Finally he turns to the others. "We may very well be attacked before morning friends, but if we leave now and are attacked I am afraid we are doomed. We need our strength, we are not out of this nightmare yet. We will stay."
Brother Bertram Tuesday April 13th, 2004 5:54:29 PM
Bertram listens to Ingrge's words with care and nods his agreement to the Talon's new leader. Bertram uses what healing power he has left to heal any Talons that are still wounded before resting.
(OOC Consider all remaining wounds healed.)
DM Mark( Kent is on assignment in Hawaii) Tuesday April 13th, 2004 5:59:04 PM
As you all settle in for the night, sleep comes slowly despite your exhaustion. The only disturbance during the night, was the sound of bones clattering together in the tunnel you came in.
(Please make sure you have sent Kent you treasure list you are carrying! I am having quite a few internet access problems so please be patient! Thanks!)
Lian Tuesday April 13th, 2004 8:35:15 PM
The monk figures with his hearing loss, he'll be virtually useless on watch now, so he sleeps well, not hearing the tunnels sounds. He occassionally rolls over and opens his eyes briefly, then falls back off to sleep.
[OOC:We need to email Kent our treasure carry list?]
Figment Wednesday April 14th, 2004 6:33:29 AM
As Ingrge makes the call he prepares to camp and sleep. As the new druid speaks of leaving he offers a thought. "We are not underground, my new druidic friend. We are in a very different place...I wonder if I could teleport out of here? If so I could carry some things and make several trips so could maximize our take from all of this. Of course, I've heard stories about this place. I doubt I can...".

Olana Wednesday April 14th, 2004 11:01:54 AM
Olana offers to take a watch, just in case something weird and horrible comes creeping along the tunnel. It's hard to rest in this place, she thinks - keeping an eye on that Elese and Milo.
During the period of rest, she takes a moment to quietly study their new companions. Gunther had a good sword hand, and seemed nice enough in a gruff sort of way, and Athalorn she was intrigued about. Perhaps there was much to be learned from him. All Olana's judgements tended to be based on gut feeling and instinct, and she hadn't sensed any alarm bells about either of them.
She nods to herself, as she continues her musings.
When its time to go, she's ready. If she is able to lift the painting, she'll carry it.
Ingrge Wednesday April 14th, 2004 9:37:59 PM
Ingrge grimaces at Figment's words and hesitates for a moment before deciding. "We best wait and see if that is possible if we have to Figment. I fear this place would lead our best efforts astray. Let us see if we can avoid using that option as long as possible."
Brother Bertram Wednesday April 14th, 2004 9:43:33 PM
Bertram follows the others trying to look for signs of attack.
DM Mark (Kent currently undercover in Hawaii) d20=10 Wednesday April 14th, 2004 9:45:03 PM
Olana moves the painting and discovers it is quite light but will she need some assistance due to the size and awkwardness of the item. Two people could carry it without much trouble under normal walking conditions. As you prepare to leave you notice Elese and Milo ready to go as well, and about to move towards the exit. You are loaded down with all that each of you choose to carry and are proud of accomplishing your mission as well as enjoying your rewards. But even as you emerge into the falling rain of the surface world you begin to wonder if you will survive to enjoy the fruits of your labor. You are no more than up when you hear a chilling scream and see a party of 4 of the mantis creatures moving towards you rapidly. Elese yells out quickly, "We must get through the city to escape back to your world! Do we flee or fight?"
Gunther (AC 20, HP 60/60) d20+1=4 Wednesday April 14th, 2004 11:14:42 PM
Hearing the scream, Gunther spins around, whiping out his two bladed sword and crouching low. Spotting the mantis creatures, the large man tries to size up the competition...looking for obvious weak spots (Spot=4) but finding none. He moves to a forward position, hoping to make it possible for his friends to either fight or flee...though he stops short of engaging the enemy. A wicked grin on his face, he speaks over his shoulder to Ingrge. "I for von am up to a goot fight, but if ve are going to flee ve had better do so quickly...dey are gaining on us quickly." With his free hand, Gunther reaches into his pack and pulls out his shield of faith potion...ready to down it should the decision to fight be made.
Lian d20+5=20 Thursday April 15th, 2004 2:27:14 AM
Lian will help Olana with the painting.
As the party approaches the surface, Lian spots the creatures, but hears nothing. (It's an odd sight to the monk, not having sound to accompany the visual.) He looks to Ingrge for guidance, seeing the concern on Elese's face and seeing her lips move, Lian tries to focus. The monk is confused by Gunthers offensive stance. (Sense Motive on the party to see what they intend to do, 20).
The monk does as the party does. However, it is clear to anyone who knows Lian well, that the monk is anxious to leave.
