Athalorn  3d10(10+6+6)=22
Thursday May 6th, 2004 3:08:14 AM

The druid is still focused on his spell, and the divine magic that is coursing through his body. The concerns of his companions are lost on him, as he doesn't even hear them. Instead, he looks up at the gargoyles, and brings down a further bolt of lightning on one of them. (Call Lightning Damage 22 to a Gargoyle)

Glannath meanwhile, is still mid air, but low down near to the companions and battling against the rain and gravity to stay aloft. When he sees the energy field surge towards Athalorn he descends and lands on the druids shoulder - hoping to distract him from his trance.

Concerned with posting.

Not liking the spottiness.

Kent, need help DMing? I'll take the days you don't post if you want.... I simply don't want this game to die. (Not volunteering to DM on a regular basis, just for a week if need be!)

This isn't meant to be a flame, just serious concern.

Gunther (AC 23, HP 60/60 Shield of Faith)
Thursday May 6th, 2004 10:54:45 AM

The large man watches the approaching hostiles with growing anticipation... He doesn't much like the idea of entering the field, but then did they have much of a choice? "Perhaps ve can double back around dat ting and get to vere ve need to go?" he suggests.

Elese
Thursday May 6th, 2004 10:41:00 PM

I think that we need to be on the otherside of that, but I'm not at all sure that we should touch it or let it touch us. It loks like it is one of the wild magic bands that travel this area. And by the looks of things I would say it is a magic absorbing one. We might try pouring an excess of magic into it at one spot and see what happens. She almost seems like she is looking for someone to take the decision from her.

With Athalon's second lightening strike, a slender tenril from the band stretches out and touches the entranced druid, who all at once feels warm and tingly and deathly cold. Fortitude save DC25 (lose 10 hps and 2 points con). At the same time Athalorn's magic seems to begin to fade from his body (will save DC 25)

At the same time the Gargoyles dive and attack. Olana gets caught by one stoney claw. (6 points)

The second goes after Ingrge, but the mage manages to get out of the way and avoid damage.

The third dive bombs Gunther and misses badly.

After dodging Ingrge yells to Figment.

"Target the spot right there with the most potent spell you have I will do the same.
Elese you do the same."

"Bertram, see what you can do about getting our new friend over there to safety."

"Olana, Gunther do what you can to get rid of these things."

Somehow getting Lian's attention, Ingrge tries to make himunderstand that he is to help Father Bertram with Athalorn.

Having seen the druid get 'sucked' into the shroud, Lian has no problem understanding, but wonders how they are to do it.
Getting an epiphony, Lian strips off his pack and the swords he has strapped to his belt and back.
"The magic! It's attracted to the magic. The less we have, the less we attract. If you carry no valuables into town, you attract no thieves. Remain humble." He says, as if remembering something said to him in his past.
He continues to drop magic items.

(ooc: woo hoo awesome rolls!)

Athalorn is distracted from his spell by Glannath, but it is too late as the field reaches out to him. Glannath takes into the air again, and the druid focuses on his inner strength to help him fight the darkness. The power of nature comes to him and he resists the draining effect of the tendril (Fortitude save = 28) and the coursing magic that it tries to suck from his body (will save = 30)

He thinks about changing form to escape the field, but finds he has no energy and almost collapses from the effort. However he does try to force himself away from the grasp of the evil that holds him...

Several things happen almost at the same time that nearly drop Athalorn in his tracks. At eh same time as Athalorn somehow manages to fight off the effects of the scintillating magic curtain, the magicless Lian and Brother Bertram charge in and grab hold of the slender druid, pulling him out of the field of magic. Lian feels a touch of coldness but it seems no worse than a cool winter shower. Bertram on the otherhand feels the bone chilling cold Fortitude save DC25 (lose 10 hps and 2 points con), and senses something boring into his mind. Almost immediately he feels as if his magic is beginning to fade from his body (will save DC 25 or lose 1 point of wisdom)

Olana and Gunther take on a defensive stance in order to try and waylay the remaining gargoyles, but are quite ineffective with their attacks. The Gargoyles, a bit wary at first now that they have totally lost the element of suprise, don't seem terribly impressed by the two warrior's attempts at stopping them and dive bomb the dynamic duo. As they do so it seems that they were in far to much of a hurry as the first two collide with each other and crash to the ground (geesh two 1s). tThe third gargoyle manages to pull away in time to avoid the collision, but in doing so is unable to effectively attach either Gunther or Olana, missing them both by wide margins.

Ingrge looks over and grins at Figmnet's comment and replies as he gets ready to cast. "Figment, my friend, I too hope I know what I am doing, but I guess we are about to see." (cast Ice storm)

Elese also targets the appointed spot and sends a ray of energy (disintegrate) streaking toward the magic curtain to join with the other two mages' magics.

As the three magics hit their intended target spot, two things occur. first off the magic curtain rapidly bends itself around in order to try and absorb as much of the combined energies as it can and as that happens a 6 foot archway is somehow formed at the spot of contact. Through the archway you can see what seems to be either a large river or perhaps a lake on the otherside of the arch.

Elese litteraly screams at you all. "THAT IS WHERE WE NEED TO GO! RUN, NOW! WHO KNOWS HOW LONG THE ARCHWAY WILL REMAIN OPEN."

That said she takes off for the arch and bolts through it moments later, though it does sem to have collapsed around her a tiny bit as she went through.

As you go though, if you decide to, please roll a reflex save DC 25 and a d100.)

The monk and the dwarf reach relative safety, away from the energy. He returns to his personal gear and retrieves it, as well as the booty from the dragon-construct, not hearing Elese's suggestion. Lian askes Athalorn quite loudly, "What happened? Are you okay?"
He watchs the druid's lips and gestures carefully to try to get the gist of what he says.

He then realizes what Elese has done and where she now is. "Whoa, what is she doing?"

The druid almost is fatigued by the effort, but shouts his gratitude to Lian and Bertram. He sees Bertram is pained by the field as the druid was himself, so holds onto him to offer support. As he does so he tries to mouth a phrase to Lian, hoping he will understand. "Thankyou, friend. I felt a terrible pain, an icy force that was pulling the magic from my body. I think it is doing the same to Bertram."

He follows Lian's gaze then to Elese. "I think we should follow, if our alternative is to stay here." To make sure Lian can hear, he shouts again, "FOLLOW!" indicating their companion who had vanished through the arch.

Ensuring that Bertram and Lian are heading for the arch too, the druid runs to the energy field. The visage beyond certainly looked preferable to this current place. He indicates to Glannath to follow him, and they both head for the closing archway. (Reflex save and D100 for Athalorn = 12 and 39, for Glannath 20 and 99)

"Ve should stay here and keep de monsters away so dat de oders can get through." Gunther remains on the defense, watching the gargoyles and keeping them busy while the others pass through the archway. After all of the other Talons have passed through, Gunther indicates that Olana should pass. Last of all, Gunther jumps through the magical rift himself (Ref=24, 100=39). Ingrge, Figment and Elese manage to make it through the arch way unscathed, as do Bertram and Lian who follow close behind. It is then that things start to go awry.

Any who look can see Athalorn trying to move along the edge of the arched cutain, but he seems to be moving in slow motion.

Olana ties up and Bertram grabs hold of the rope as The lithe elf heads back in after Athalorn and really has no difficulty finding him as he is in the center of the archway in which the party just traversed, with what can only be a
Glannath wrapped up in the magical curtain. With very little difficulty Olana graps hold Athalorn of and starts guiding him back out of the archway which is now starting to pulsate. Athalorn somehow manages to grasp hold of Glannath as they leave but the eagle is just barely moving beneath his hands.

Gunther indeed looks around and there must be something wrong for even though he sees what might be a humanoid shape standing near the edge of what appears to be a humungous lake, he doesn't think twice about it as he watches Athalorn's trial.

Ingrge is about to answer Gunther when Olana's dash saves him the trouble.

Thankyou, my friend. I will not forget that." He holds her gaze a moment, then smiles as he puts one hand on Olana's shoulder, trying his utmost to express his gratitude. "Thankyou."

He then turns to the barely moving and battered body of the eagle on the ground. Feeling Glannath's fatigue and pain, he kneels, trying to comfort his old friend.

Figment is the first to notice the coweled and robed figure slowly walking toward you from the lake's shore. He also sees what appears to be a boat drawn up on the bank where the figure is walking from.

Elese turns and sees the figure as well and before figment can start casting a spell, pseaks up. I believe we need to cross to the other side of the lake and I think he is our only way across and out of this place. I am told there is a price for his service, but I do not know what it is or might be.

Snapping out of his daydream, Gunther finally takes note of the man in the boat. A dangerous look in his eye, Gunther moves to a forward position, blocking the rest of the party from the man, but not engaging him. Having proved her value in Gunther's eyes, Gunther gives head to Elese's words. His sword remains at the ready as he addresses the figure, though he tries to look as non threatening as possible. "Ve are told dat dere is a price for your services...ve vill gladly pay you if you vill transport us across de lake."

"Thankyou, Brother," the druid speaks to Bertram. The Talons had showed their true colours in the last few moments, or at least some had, and Athalorn was truly thankful for their help.

He watches as Glannath takes into the sky, reassured that his companion will recover. The druid almost joins him, as he longed to feel the air beneath him once more. But instead he looks at the robed figure approaching, hand reaching slowly for the spear strapped to his back.

Olana's face lights up as Athalorn says thanks.
"I'm glad you're well," she says with a beaming smile. "There was something dark and horrible lurking back there. There were a few of us about to jump in. I just got there first."

As they approach the lake, she apologises to Bertram, for absorbing some of the harm she took.
Then, silently she watches with a shiver as Gunther negotiates with the boatman. Stories of boatmen like this were told to them as children. But these figures of legend, so the story had it - were not of the land of the living, and this one made her feel cold.

DM kent
Monday May 17th, 2004 7:10:46 PM

As Gunther and the others approach the boatman, the figure stops and waits for you to approach. He is clothed in what appears to have one ben a brown or grey cowled monks robe. It is now very worn, tattered and full of holes. Also very clearly noticable is the fact that this boatman is very much skeletal, and yet their is no aura of evil about him. As the Talons gather in front of him his hissing voice can be heard easily over all the outside noises.

"If you wish to cross, a price each must pay, a kiss for tomorrow, or be lost for today. Decision be made, before knowest the cost, Answer real soon, or never shall cross."

There is no threat in his recitation. In fact it almost sounds like it is mearly a rehearsed speech being said by an automaton.

If anyone looks to Elese for an answer or help she shrugs her shoulders. "I know not what the cost is, only that this is the ONLY way out, and that the cost must be paid by each that wants to cross."

Olana brings her fingers to her lips in a blown kiss motion before Lian, followed by a baffled shrug, attempting to illustrate to her fellow elf what the ferryman said.

What she couldn't explain was her assumption that they had to say they would pay - without even knowing what the cost was.
Her tribe would be astonished and disgusted at how reckless and spontaneous she had become - almost human in her mannerisms.
Adventuring took its toll.

"I can't speak for anyone else, but I will pay the price," she tells the man who would take them to safety.

Bertram and Gunther both walk up the skeletal boatman and try to manage a peck on the cheek, but some how manage to find their lips meeting a skeletal mouth instead. After Bertram's kiss their sudennly seems to be a slight change in the creature's appearance. In fact Gunther is quite sure that the skeleton had a layer of skin over his bones and lips when he kissed him.

Olanna lines up next with Figment, Athalorn and Lian and watch as Elese steps up to submit her payment. After she is kissed by the now not so skeletal skeleton, the man now definitely has some body shape and perhaps twice as much mass as before. With a shake of his head and a quiet muttering, Ingrge steps forward. He too is soundly kissed and now the man is almost norma looking except for his palid white skin.

Turning her attention to the boatman however, she's rather glad she wasn't the first. He seemed a little pale now as opposed to.... dead earlier.
Perhaps he needed to be strong to get them across. Oh well, best do this properly, she thinks, then maybe some of the others didn't need to do it.

He moves toward the boat urging you to come forward and as you approach you see that the boat doesn't appear to be much better off than he was before your kisses.

Pointing at each of you he motions you to get in the boat and then shoves off. Almost immediately water starts flowing in through the sleletal ribs of the boat. Just as quickly the water seems to be disappearing. In addition the boat starts moving toward the opposite side of the river and the "elf" Just seems to be standing there in the stern.

Figment doesn't see any changes with the rest of the party while on shore or in the boat, but does see a change in the boatman. As the boat gets farther from shore the boatman seems to be reverting back his old skeletal self until when the opposite shore is reached where he is once again the cowled skeleton you first saw.

As Figment steps off the boat on to shore he suddenly feels ravenously hungry like he hasn't eaten for days. (Figment now needs to eat twice as much food as normal each day or will feel extremely hungry and weak) As he turns and waits for the other to disembark he gets quite a shock.

Bertram, Elese, and Olana all have alabaster white hair, while both Ingrge and Lian seem to have shrunk six inches in height.

{I still need to know what Athalorn is going to do and I need Gunther's d12.}

Gunther turns with distaste at the kiss of the ferryman. He watches the whole transaction with a mix of horror and amazement. "Dis place is von of many oddities." He whispers under his breath. As soon as the shoreline is reached, Gunther dismounts and takes a look around (Spot=13) as he scouts for any signs of trouble.

Holding up his breeches, Lian is not happy at this event at all. "This is JUST super!"

He goes to step off to one side stepping out of his sandals and is not remotely ammused.

"I am never listening to you again!" Referring to Olana and Figment. Then he remembers, "... Oh, that is convienient, because I am DEAF AS A STONE!" The elf just shakes his head.

The elf gives a sigh. Now 'all' of her hair was white, instead of just a pale streak at one side.
Something tells her it could have been a lot worse, and she's a bit disappointed that the boatman has gone back to his withered self.

It appeared to have affected them all in some way, but right now it was time to get out and worry about other things later.

While Figment asks the questions, Olana examines this side of the water to see if there's an obvious path - or a nice big sign....

(ooc Has anyone heard from Simon (Athalorn)?)

As Milo steps to shore he is changed too as all of his clothes seem a bit too small on him as he seems to have gained six inches.

Athalorn too seems to be taller and his robes no longer reach the ground. (grew six inches)

Gunther sees nothing of any apparent danger.

Figment's question elicits a skeletal hand raising and pointing behind the party.

Olana's search finds no path but she does see something very near to a sign.

As the party gets over their changes they see that there is an bare open 100 yard stretch of ground that ends at a 20 foot diameter upright circle made of stone. (think Star Gate)

Elese turns to you all and simply says, " That is our way home.

Athalorn has been following the actions of the others - distrustful of this entity but resigned to the path before him. As they reach the far side of the lake and approach the gate, he calls Glannath to him. The eagle soars down from his contented flight and joins the party.

The druid was beginning to feel very tall indeed. What strange magic, he thought to himself, looking at the other companions.

As you all make your way over to the stone circle, Eleses steps forward and loudly chants.
ORATHAE Z'RESS Obsul whol Ussa. Plynn Udossa RATH."

Almost immediately a swirling colorful vortex appears within the circular construct. Without hesitation Elese walks toward the swirly stuff. "The gate will remain open for 3 minutes or until 30 seconds has gone by with noone going through."

With that said, she steps into the colorful tempest and is soon no longer seen.

Figment and the rest of the group step into the swirling miasma and they suddenly feel as though they are moving through warm pudding only there is no moisture.

No one is able to see anyone else as they enter, although some sound does seem to carry as Figment thiunks he hears a response to his comments from Elese.

"I am sure our paths will cross again in the near future." Until them fair thee well and may the matron mother watch over you all."

The journey lasts for what seesm like about 7 minutes and suddenly the Talons find them selves stepping into the sunlight in the center of a glade of old very rowan and iron wood trees.

As you check each other out to make sure that all have arrived safely, you find two things.

First Elese is nowhere to be seen and there is a strange but familiar woods elf stnding with you looking very dazed. Those who recognize him remember that his name is Falin.

Lian
Tuesday May 25th, 2004 1:11:28 AM

Deaf, and now BLIND the elf is very upset.
He starts screaming at the top of his lungs.

"I am not happy. Deaf, Reduced and now blind... HELP!!! Damnedable portal! Help!"
He repeats this over and over.
It's clear that the elven monk may need professional help after this journey ends.

He stumbles about, not able to keep his sense of balance. There is no up or down in darkness when one is blind and deaf.

"Oh!" He says, coming into the daylight blinking, then stands up(holding onto the loot and his gear). He looks briefly at Falin.
It's apparent that the elf needs meditation and a vacation.

(OOC: Are they still effected by the Skeletons Kiss?)

(BTW, who's going to the Catacombs with the loot this time?)

Falin
Tuesday May 25th, 2004 2:32:09 AM

Falin looks at his surroundings as a child might look at a great wonder. A devilish grin slowly apears on his face as he realizes he is back. He chuckles quietly and the returns to his somber self.

Looking at the others and not quite knowing what is going on with them he looks to see if anyone needs attending. Most of his attention goes to the stressed out looking elf.

Athalorn

Upon arriving in the glade, Glannath immediately takes to the sky. Athalorn senses huge relief verging on excitement from the eagle. Indeed, the druid is also overcome with relief. A forest glade in the sunlight - there was no finer place in his mind. (ooc: Does Athalorn recognise this place?)

Athalorn looks around the glade, admiring the trees of the forest. Then he spots the stranger amongst them. "Hail, stranger. Who are you?"

Olana
Tuesday May 25th, 2004 6:15:36 PM

Olana bids farewell to Elese with mixed feelings.
Once in the forest, she feels a little disoriented for a moment, after traveling through the gate.

"Oh! Hello," she says with a startled but cheerful smile, to Falin.
Trying to regain her wits, she stands in front of Lian and mouths the words - WE'LL GET HELP - and points to his ear.

Now where was Milo?

Gunther
Tuesday May 25th, 2004 7:05:08 PM

Completely disoriented, and more than just a little nauseous, Gunther staggers out of the gate into the forest. "Vell, dat vas...entertaining" manages the warrior through pale lips. "May I suggest dat ve not go on a trip like dat for quite some time?!" Noticing the elf with a start, Gunther approaches, hands on his weapon, legs decidedly wobbly. "Before you start messing vith my friend over dere...vould you first explain vho you are and vy you are here?" Milo and Ingrge are standing off to the side of things as the group calms Lian and "welcomes" Falin back from the void. (The last time you all saw Falin, you all were just being whisked off to the YOA battle and he did not emerge with you.)

Athalorn does indeed feel at home in this grove, but also recognizes it as a no longer inhabitated one. It does however seem to have been under someones ministrations in the last several months or so.

As the party members look around they realize that what they just went through was not a dream as they are either still white haired, shorter, or taller than they were. (You will need a high level remove curse to undo these effects otherwise they are permanent. I just can't believe that no one rolled a 12. I was so hoping for a gender change.)

It appears to be almost dusk. Figment and the others are pretty sure that you are no more than a dy or so out from the City.

The mage scans his memory banks to recall exactly where they are (Int 28). He waits for Falin to speak.

Falin
Wednesday May 26th, 2004 9:08:26 AM

Turning to the pale fighter Falin introduces himself.

"Sir, my name is Falin Darkshine and I was once with a few of these adventurers during a harrowing time. As we had stepped through a portal in order to save the world something went terribly wrong." Falins face becomes dark and sullen. "I have been...lost for some time. In a place that both did exist and didn't exist at times. I wandered for some time meeting other strangers and trying to find my way home."

He ends his little intro with a far away look in his eyes and a slight shudder. He soon snaps back to reality and again looks at the frazzled elf.

Athalorn
Wednesday May 26th, 2004 10:48:08 AM

"Then greetings, Falin, friend," speaks the druid, pleased that this was not another foe. Leaving the party to gather themself, Athalorn tries to get accustomed to his new height of 6'6. Since some of his companions appeared to have shrunk by a similar amount, it seems very high up here. he looks around the grove, muttering to himself "I'm sure I'll turn into a tree at this rate."

Glannath has disappeared into the sky, enjoying the warmth of the sun on his outstretched wings.

Gunther
Wednesday May 26th, 2004 5:02:18 PM

The swarthy man with the white hair smiles at Falin's explaination. "Sorry. Sometimes it is better to be safe dan sorry." Lowering his sword, Gunther plops down on the ground and puts his head between his legs until his stomach settles from the ride through the "gate". After regaining his equilibrium, Gunther takes a look around at his new companions and smiles. These were his kind of people...short and sweet...lived life on the edge too. Looks like he just might fit in well.

After a few moments of settling in, Gunther approaches Ingrge. "It vould appear dat ve are not far from de city. Should ve press on and try to make it der soon or rest here first? If you vish to rest, I could go out and hunt us some dinner. Shouldn't be too hard."

OOC Other than Gunther's white hair, the man is actually quite tan with lots and lots of scars covering all the visible parts of his body.

Looking around her, the elf gives a sigh.
"Well - I don't know about anyone else, but I need to wash my hair, take a bath, and I'm really hungry. Can we get toward civilization as soon as we can?"

She bites her lip glancing at Falin. Hopefully she'd remember when they'd travelled together soon enough. Right now her head was fully of monsters and skeletons in rowing boats.

Figment is pretty sure they are about 6 hours north of Saryd's Tower, which is just about an hour or so out of the city.

Ingrge suggensts that they set up camp here for the night and start out early in the morning, and that perhaps they should have a quick discussion on how they are going to proceed when they return to the Tines with the artifact.

The change in size does not seem to have altered weight very much at all.

Elese did not respond to any other comments other than that which she responded to.

Lian wonders why Elise isn't among them, but refrains from mentioning it.

The monk simply nods to Ingrge's suggestions, not hearing any of it, but getting the gist.

"I am afraid that I'll be no good for watches anymore." Says the monk, trying to control his volume. He sits and begins relaxing and meditating. He will also do his khata excercises after meditation.

The druid wanders among the trees on the edge of the grove, placing a hand on each as he does so, whispering to himself. He now found it more difficult to avoid hitting his head on some of the branches.

When the group settle for the night, Athalorn sits in silence for some time, recalling the spells he had expended on that last journey.

This was a good group of people. Caring they seemed. And so far, except for perhaps the mage Ingrge, he could see none that would test his admittedly short temper.

Glannath can be seen occasionally flitting across the evening sky through the trees.

The mage makes camp. "If one of you fighter types will kill some game I'll be pleased to prepare it. Otherwise, I think we'll have rations.".

After they get settled in he pulls out a flask of wine and takes a drink. "Not a bad vintage after all it's been through...". Turning to business when everyone is ready he adds "Elise said to me two things as we travelled through the void - I'm not sure anyone else hard it. First, that we would probably meet again soon. Second - and more importantly, she blessed us - I think - and wished that her Matron Mother would watch over us all. I think she was a drow - or perhaps only a followr of their god. Or maybe both... We may be encountering the drow soon. I've heard some of them have changed. But most have not... I wonder why they were down there exacly? I can't recall her justification when we questioned her. If it was for the same item then we may have visitors tonight. We should be prepared for that.".

"As far as the Tines are concerned I think we should return the artifact to them. If the green one has really changed then I'm sure the Tines will hear it from a credible source if they pose him much of a threat. It seemed to me when we interacted with him that he was fighting Marteus like the rest of us. I wonder what he will do now that his threat is gone?...". The mage trails off in drink and thought.

Gunther
Friday May 28th, 2004 9:20:12 AM

Gunther smiles brightly at Ingrge's decision. Nodding at Figment's request, Gunther removes his armor and changes into a simple tan explorers outfit. He gathers up a simple dagger and some rope and then heads out into the forest, looking very much at home. He returns a few hours later with six plumps rabbits. "I am sorry, I vould have brought more, but it vas starting to get late, and I thought dat you vould like to start cooking dem soon." He hands the fluffy little morsels over to Figment and then sets about cleaning his armor and weaponry.

Falin
Friday May 28th, 2004 10:02:27 AM

Falin begins to relax for the evening. His demeanor has become one of calm and coolness. As he is inventorying his equipment he glances around the group and looks to see who he remembers and who he doesn't.

"Looks as though I am not the only one that has a stressful time as of late." Falin says like someone who is trying to lighten the mood, but is not comfortable doing so.

He then takes to oiling down his bow and working the strings. When he works with his bow and arrows it is almost like watching some beautiful dance. His hands glide along the bow lovingly as if it was an old friend.

Along with his bow he takes out his arrows and oils each of them down, sharpens the heads, and checks the fletching.

Olana
Friday May 28th, 2004 11:30:31 AM

Olana breathes deeply of the forest air. It was good to be back home.

She helps set up camp, and builds a fire.

After listening to what Figment has to say, she says nothing about Elese. There were a lot of prejudices to overcome with regard to drow - destroyers, killers of whole villages - and yet she had led them out to safety. Hmm...

As for other matters -
"You know what I think our main problem is? We've been away from Emerald for so long, we don't really know who friend or foe is anymore."

She'll take one of the watches - the middle one if no one else wants it, but at some point she sits alongside Falin.

"I remember now," she says with a smile. "You were there when we rescued the Hierophant and that idiot Mop from those awful Marteaus clerics. Then the Gods started dying, and we lost you in the Tower. Right about the time we had to take the path that would eventually lead to us turning undead. It's good to see that you survived."

Falin
Friday May 28th, 2004 12:03:19 PM

"Yes, Olana, it is I that once lost is now found. I have been searching for a way back for some time. It was great luck that we found each other. Since we last left I have been lost in Fae Skiemir."
Falin sighs, "I have many stories of that place some good, some bad, some terrible. Perhaps one day when we are relaxed at an inn in front of a fire place I will tell you and anyone else willing to listen about them."

Monday May 31st, 2004 6:10:24 PM

The party sets up a nice and fairly comfortable camp along with a fire and enjoy the rabbits caught by Gunther and cooked by Figment. It seems like forever since you have had anything to eat other than trail rations, let alone time to actually sit down and enjoy eating it. A lot has happened in a short time and the talons have grown in more than one way, but other than a generic sense of the Emerald Kingdom being their home, they really don't have a place of their own so to speak. So while they are happy to be back there is a small sense of melancholy.

As they eat Ingrge brings up what may be a touchy subject, after first getting Lian's attention.

"As we have no idea how long Lian's hearing will be lost, or even if it will ever return, we NEED to figure out some way of communicating with each other so that we and Lian can continue to function in a manner that will ensure all of our safeties and allow us to keep doing what we do best."

(ooc The ban on single posts is temporarily lifted so that conversation can actually happen.)

Falin
Monday May 31st, 2004 6:34:52 PM

"I would recommend some type of signals. Either hand or otherwise. The only drawback is that one has to have his attention before communicating." Suggests Falin, "Or we could try to use some type of mind reading device, but that would be costly."

Figment
Monday May 31st, 2004 8:55:21 PM

"If we're going to spend money we need to get the curses lifted. I expect the Tines should help us with that seeing how we just did their mission and all. In the meantime I expect Lian will have to help by watching us as necessary.". As Falin finishes his stories he offers "I would be very interested to hear your stories, Falin. It's good to see you back with us again. I will also attempt to identify our magics when we return.".

Lian
Tuesday June 1st, 2004 1:12:02 AM

Lian tries his best to understand the others, but has a hard time. "Signals? What kind of signals?"

The monk thinks momentarily. "What about spells? Is there a spell that allows for some sort of mental link? Some sort of message sending spell or something?" He looks to Figment and Ingrge.
He then touches on another potential problem. "What if I am unable to see any of you? Like in a darkness spell. Or just simply out of sight."

Athalorn
Tuesday June 1st, 2004 10:31:34 AM

Once settled with the others, the druid listens to the conversation. "If it will help, Glannath can accompany Lian - and act as a go between that I may send and receive messages when needed. Oherwise I think hand signals would be our only option."

When he gets chance, the druid sits near Falin and Olanna. The ranger intrigued him - it had been a long time since he had spoken with one of natures protectors. "Olanna, tell me of yourself. Where are you from? And what brings you down this path that we now share?"

Gunther
Tuesday June 1st, 2004 4:18:34 PM

The large man looks confused by all the planning concerning Lian. "Surely a healer of Alemi can restore his hearing? After all...dey can raise de dead! De hand signals vould be goot, but de monk brings up a goot point...vat if it is dark. Vait...Athalorn has a goot idea. I could capture an animal and train it for him...it could alert him to danger." Gunther's face beams with excitement at the prospect and then falls in disappointment. "But it could be rather loud...not goot in our line of vork."

Olana
Tuesday June 1st, 2004 8:13:48 PM

"I think we should go somewhere for help in these matters first thing tomorrow. Lian's in danger right now - especially, as Gunther puts it - regarding our line of work."

She thanks Figment and Gunther for the meal. It had indeed been rather tasty.

When asked by Athalorn about herself, she gives a wry grin.
"I grew up in Culverwood, to the near north west of Emerald City. My tribe just kept getting smaller and smaller as Parnoth commandeered our services for this and that. He doesn't like elves, you know - had most of us all enslaved at one point.
"Anyway, when I got the call, I thought I'd be out on the main road into Emerald, cutting grass and pruning trees like everyone else. But instead I was called to the Green Meanie's lair - along with some of the others here.
"That's how we started out."
Her smile brightens.
"Somehow I think we became something Parnoth never expected.
"So, how about you? Are you Culverwood born, too?"

Lian
Tuesday June 1st, 2004 9:01:59 PM

The monk is rather pleased with Figments dinner, being as they haven't had a good meal in weeks.

Lian thinks he understands Gunther, but it seems the man has an accent. His tongue moves strangely.
"Raising dead animals? To what end my friend?" The elf looks appauled and confused.

Seems to Lian the conversation often splits its topic, first his hearing dilemma, then a biography of those talking.
At this point, the monk just lays back and closes his eyes, taking in the oddly peace of silence.

Athalorn continues his conversation with Olanna in between the other comments made by the party. He laughs out loud at the thought of Parnoth being responsible for the party, and the path they were now following.

"Indeed I am. The Culverwood was always my home, as it was my father's and my father's father before. My ancestry knows little else but the protection of this great forest."

As if to emphasise his point, he looks around the grove, at the towering trees. Then turns back to the elf. "What of your tribe, Olanna? What is the name of your kind?"

The druid feels tired, but content. A full belly, this woodland surround, and a warming fire were all that was needed.

The conversation rolls onward with no true decision being made about anything except getting to the tine early the next day. Eventually a watch schedule is come up with the night passes quietly and almost too soon it seems the sun is rising and the new day has arrived.

First thing Lian noticies is that there seems to be a bee buzzing softly in his left ear.

Ingrge looks around at the others as he breaks camp nodding his head as if to aknowledge the good that he sees.

Milo still seems a bit distracted and not fully interactive for some reason. It is almost as if he is walking around in a fog.

Both Olana and Athalorn wake to the sounds of the wild and feel that all is well.

Gunther wakes more refreshed than he has been in a long time.

Falin too feels relaxed and safe in a manner that he has not known for quite some time.

Bertram wakes feeling quite undwarf like and chipper.

Figment wakes ready to go and is nearly chomping at the bit to get moving.

The day is tarting out clear and patches of sunlight are already making their way through the trees.

Figment and Olana confer and after everyone is ready the party heads out heading slightly southeast. After about an hour walk they come across the main road that leads southward past the Tower of Saryd and into Emerald City. Another hour of walking and passing the Tower, the Talons find themselves at closed gates of the city.

Seeing the closed gates, Gunther decides to take a look around (Spot=21!!!) to see if he can spot the reason why the gates are closed at such an early hour. "Dis is very peculiar, is it not?" he mummers to Brother Bertram.

Lian starts from his meditation, with the soft wings of the bee tickling him (does he 'hear' it? or just feel it?).

The monk packs up his belongings, then notices the dwarf and the halfling not acting normally to say the least, but passes it off as 'happy to be home'. He was also delieghted to be back, everything considered.

The mage looks around and decides a bit of stealth might be the best choice. "I'll be back...". He casts invisibility and fly on himself and goes for a look.

Bertram scratches his head. I am not sure Friend Gunther. I do not know much about this place myself.

"d'Kallya is the name," Olana tells Athalorn, "and to be honest, I don't know where... maybe the forest has them in safekeeping somewhere."

It feels strange, to talk about this she realises. As though home and her tribe were not connected to her anymore. It makes her realise she could probably never go back - not to what she knew. They had probably changed. She certainly had.

Noting Milo's behaviour, she walks over and gives him a hug, and asks him if he's alright.

As they pass the Tower, she remembers.
"This was filled with ghosts. I wonder if it's quiet now."
She wants to explore, but follows the others to the City.

"Bertram," she asks quietly as Figment disappears. "Do you think you could put in a good word at the local Domi temple for them to take a look at our various 'ailments'?

Athalorn slept well - for the first time in many months, content to be home.

As they begin their journey, and longing for the air beneath him, Athalorn changes himself (wildshape - Golden Eagle). Joining Glannath in the sky, the two birds, soar above the party, following their trail.

As they approach the city and the closed gates, they both hover for a moment to ensure the party was alright, before heading over the walls to see if all was well. (ooc Spot = 35)

He is trying to keep the feeling of safety with him as long as possible. It has been a terribly long time since he felt that way. He is enjoying the walk. He stoops to pick up a twig and works it for a while until he has a bracelet. When he is done he places it in his bag and does it again.

(OCC: not looking for anything good he is just passing the time in a laxidasical way until we get to the city.)

Figment and Athalorn fly over the walls, one invisible and one in bird form, but both see the same thing; nothing unusual. The gate keepers are lounging around beside the inside of the gates throwing bones and chatting and passing around a skin of some sort of liquid. In the near distance there are all kinds of folk going about starting their days. It is now roughly 7:30 AM.

He notices after waking from the meditation, that the druid and bird are gone, but he isn't surprised remotely, with all the strange things going on... it must be that Lantern in Figments possession, it all started then! He thinks.

The monk wait patiently for Ingrge to give the go ahead to move on.

(ooc: Lian at first you weren't sure but the buzzing has not gone away as you walked and yes you are "hearing it.")

Olana tries the bold approach -

"Hello!! Hello!!?"

She rattles the gate.

The druid and Glannath both land atop the city walls, watching the activity below them. As the party moves, they follow them, flying from building to building.
