Falin Thursday June 10th, 2004 2:55:30 AM
Falin takes a seat at the table with his back to the other patrons. He slides his hand into his side pouch and pulls out a mirror in order to catch glimpses of what is going on behind him.
He then flags down a serving maid and orders a glass of elven wine (or equivalent) and some bread with cheese for everyone in the group. He promises a good tip for fast service.
"Musent look suspicious by coming in here and then not eating or drinking anything. People might starting doing more than pointing and whispering about us." Falin then continues to monitor the bar through his mirror as best he can.
Lian (OOC) Thursday June 10th, 2004 7:44:43 AM
OOC: The loot will cost roughly 5000gp to ID. Lian went to the Catacombs last time and I'd like to hand this task to someone else.
IC: The monk gets a relatively large meal and a mug of light fruity drink and sits.
He's not sure if what he's hearing is a lingering yearning for his sense to return or actual sounds. (Did he get his hearing back fully?)
Athalorn Thursday June 10th, 2004 3:06:16 PM
Already finding the busy place difficult, and finding himself longing to be back at his grove, Athalorn sits himself down - feeling very conspicuous at 6'6. Still, at least they were relatively safe here. He waits silently for the food and drink, trying to cope with what he feels is a very busy environment, and allows hs companions to do all he talking.

The elf follows the others inside with a sigh, and sits down, also at the table near the back entrance.
She starts scoping the place, looking for a familiar face, or some Tine evidence, or anyone staring - that might indicate something weird.

The Talons make their way to the rear table and take their seats. Almoat immediately one of the barmaids comes over to take your orders; a few miutes later she returns with your food and beverage of choice.
Maybe you've been on the road too much recently, but it seems that you are attarcting a lot more attention in here than you ever did before in any inn you ever entered. Of course it could be that you are the only people in here wearing any weapon larger than a poiniard, you have blood stains and other goo all over yourselves and you are loaded down with what seems to be FAR more than what could even concievably be called normal gear.
everyone with the exception of Figment has an nice meal and a beverage set in front of them. The bar maid looks expectantly at the group and then adresses Olana as she seems the least likely to cut her in half.
" Gentlewoman, that comes to 52 silver 6 copper, if you please."
Brother Bertram Friday June 11th, 2004 2:34:55 PM
Between bites Bertram leans over to Ingrge, "Friend Ingre, I strongly urge you to hide that bauble and us all hurry out of this place! Too many prying eyes." Bertram stands with his hand on his axe and roars at the staring crowd, "By Domi's name is this how you welcome strangers and friends in this town now! Give us some peace or feel our wrath!" He stands, staring back at the crowd, looking about the room making eye contact with person that appears to be staring, waiting for them to drop thier eyes.
Falin Friday June 11th, 2004 7:03:12 PM
Falin hands over 10 gold pieces and asks the barmaid:
"Pardon my intrusion kind lady, but why are we being looked at with distrust by the local people? And where are all of the elves?"
Lian Saturday June 12th, 2004 2:19:46 AM
Having been through far too much to have all these gockers harrass them now, the monk shoots a fiery glance at the brood making a fuss over the Talons. The elf notices Bertram's expression, its a familiar one. He's ready to help his dwarven friend if he gets into trouble.
Athalorn Saturday June 12th, 2004 4:42:53 AM
He watches the dwarf make his comments, having not seen Bertram's temper before. The spears strapped to the druids back crackle momentarily, as the adrenaline fires up once again, but is gone almost as quickly. Too tired and too uncomfortable for any trouble, he speaks to the group, and particularly Ingrge, in hushed tones.
"Tell me, I have ventured with you since that damned cavern, on the instruction of my Hierophant. But can you tell me more of this artifact. I sense its great power, but if it is a danger to animals as you say, perhaps Glannath and I should keep our distance from you til it be gone."
Figment Saturday June 12th, 2004 5:16:44 PM
The mage decides to maintain the invisibility and pass on the food. He moves over closer to some talking in hopes of getting some ideas of the discomfort.
Olana d20=16 Monday June 14th, 2004 4:34:27 PM
Olana asks everyone to chip in for the bill - as anyone with modest sums of cash would, collects it together and hands the money over to the waitress. In an attempt to de-mystify the groups appearance, she smiles and says - "Culverwood. Sometimes the journey can get a little rough through there, wouldn't you agree?" and gives the waitress one of her winning smiles. ((Charisma DC 16))
DM Kent Tuesday June 15th, 2004 8:09:55 AM
Ingrge nods to Bertram, and then turns to Athalorn. I expect you are in no danger just in its vicinity with noone focussing it upon you. I don't believe it works that way. However none of us knows how it works and I would hate for it capture you or anything else by accident.
At Bertram's verbal grousing the patrons of the inn grumble a moment and much of the overt looks cease, though there are quite a few furtive glances sent your way. In addition several people get up and leave the inn after Bertram's outburst.
The barmaid looks a bit confused at Lian's and Olana's comments and then quickly recovers.
"Umm 'ave yeh taked uh luik at yersefs uv recent? Yer poked out wif ahl kine uv weepuns, yer cuv'rd in blud, and ye stink t' th' hi hev'ns."
As fer th'elves, dey dun 'most all muved out o' th'city fer sum reeson."
Brother Bertram Tuesday June 15th, 2004 7:05:38 PM
Hearing the waitress, Bertram looks rather sheepish. "Well I suppose those might be good reasons..."
Lian Tuesday June 15th, 2004 7:29:04 PM
(OOC: Just a note, Lian never spoke or made any comments after entering the bar.)
The monk remains silent, staring and making mental notes of the patrons that left the bar.
He looks around after things calm down and tries to pick out the races that are in the bar. (OOC: Does it seem that its just the elves, or is it the rest of the demi-races that have left too?)
Figment Tuesday June 15th, 2004 7:53:30 PM

DM kent d100=5 d100=11 d100=74 Tuesday June 15th, 2004 11:33:15 PM
Figment doesn't hear much of great import in his meanderings although he is backed into by a chair once and is nearly stepped on another time, but his efforts are finly rewarded with two small tidbits.
One is from a medium sized group of humans that seem to be speculating where you all got all the blood and loot from and half heartedy wondering how easily you all might be separated from some of it. One person in this group also mentions something about it is obvious that they, meaning the talons, don't seem to have heard about the rumors or maybe you just think that you can take care of your own.
The second tidbit is even more vague as it issues from the mouth of one who has had perhaps a bit more to drink than he should have. He cryptically mentions to his drinking partner, who happens to be passed out that the town just isn't the same with most of em gone, and he wonnered if he was back to his old ways.....
Lian did see a very few dwarves in the city as they made their way to the inn, but no elves. And while the innkeeper/bartender is himself an elf, there are no elven patrons at this time, nor any other demihumans.
The waitress thanks you for the payment and then mentions as she leaves. "Ye Knows wees gots rumes uppers tha ye kin pay fer and git cleent up'n."
Olana Wednesday June 16th, 2004 1:00:08 AM
Olana gives a sigh and says quietly to the others - "We really do need a place of our own, where we can keep things and get a decent bath."
"Why did the elves leave town?" she asks the waitress, brightly.
Falin d20+1=6 Wednesday June 16th, 2004 1:59:44 AM

Athalorn Wednesday June 16th, 2004 3:00:44 AM
Feeling more and more uncomfortable, what with the stares and muttered conversations, Athalorn sinks into his cloak as best he can. While confident in the open air, in doors he feels helpless and awkward.
Still, the things figment hears interest him greatly. Were they talking of Parnoth himself? He sips on his drink as he listens to the otehrs continue the conversation, suddenly feeling very tired.
Figment Wednesday June 16th, 2004 6:33:09 AM
The mage hangs around the folks that said something about rumors in hopes they continue.
Lian Wednesday June 16th, 2004 6:54:07 AM
Lian isn't liking the fact that Ol' Mean Green is possibly up to his old tricks, but then again, who knows. The city council may have 'cleansed' the city for some reason. Who knows, maybe a plague wiped out the demi-humans and the humans and few dwarves were immune. "Hmph." At any rate, he keeps his speculations to a minimum and to himself as he eats.
Ingrge Wednesday June 16th, 2004 11:24:58 PM
looks up at the barmaids comments. "Yes I think a room would be good, perhaps two and baths for all of us, lots of hot water. Talons shall we get settled and figure out what we need to do next?
GM Kent Wednesday June 16th, 2004 11:29:15 PM

Olana Thursday June 17th, 2004 12:14:37 AM
Olana blows a strand of white hair out of her face in exasperation.
'Ifn ye needs anythin -' Where are the elves, you infuriating woman!!!
Bother it. She stands. "Alright, lets go and freshen up."
Athalorn Thursday June 17th, 2004 3:01:44 AM
the druid quietly follows Olana, considering whether or not to sleep outside tonight. He figures he will wait for a while, lest the party discuss any plans.
Figment (Invisible) Thursday June 17th, 2004 6:58:20 AM
Disappointed at his lack of intellingence gathering, and seeing his comrades leaving, the mage follows them to their rooms. "If you all would like I will rest and have a crack at identifying the loot. Maybe the painting guy can tell us. I expect he's seen that construct play with this stuff for a very long time...".
Lian Thursday June 17th, 2004 9:27:17 PM
As soon as 'bath' is mentioned, the elf gets a smile on his face and heads right for his room.
"I could use one." He says, picking dried, crusty goo out of his platnum braids.

The baths go fairly quickly wih new water being brought up for each bather.
Falin watches and listens a while and then is rewarded by the sound of a very a soft tread coming up the stairs, but then hears nothing more and nothing is to be seen in the hall or on the stairs.
After a while longer Falin is informed by Bertram the at the last bath water is waiting for him. However as Bertram goes to the door he notices a piece of folded paper on the floor, which looks like it might have been slid underneath the door.
Lian Friday June 18th, 2004 8:26:03 PM
The monk lounges as long as possible in the tub.
After his bath, he gets out, wraps in a towel and just sits on the floor fingering his ears. The buzzing sounds are bothersome and the clicking is irritating.
Figment Friday June 18th, 2004 11:30:52 PM
The mage enjoys his bath as he always does. He changes out of his custom travel clothes and into a more comfortable mage's attire - suitable for the city.
Athalorn Saturday June 19th, 2004 6:34:24 AM
Once bathed and refreshed, the druid walks over to Ingrge and the others. "If you are all to stay here tonight, I will sleep outside. Glannath and I can keep a watch on the building from the lofty heights at which I intent to rest, and I will meet you in the morning. Is that alright, my friends?"
Brother Bertram Sunday June 20th, 2004 1:53:49 PM
Bertram looks about warily before casually palming the folded note. He closes the door and reads it quickly.
Gunther Sunday June 20th, 2004 11:30:43 PM
The large man appears very uncomfortable bathing, and though making sure he is thoroughly clean, does not spend any more time than needed in the water. Once finished, he heads back to the bar area and orders a large flagon of ale. It's been a long time since he's had the luxury of being in a decent town, and he figures that he might as well enjoy it while he can. As he drinks his ale, Gunther sits and casually engages in "people watching"...his mind wandering.
Falin Monday June 21st, 2004 12:36:32 PM
After enjoying his bath, Falin goes ahead and takes out his weapons and begins cleaning them.
Olana Monday June 21st, 2004 6:16:33 PM
Olana wallows in the tub like an aquatic creature, glad to be rid of muck and grime picked up in that horrible place of magic they'd just escaped from. She spends a long time on her hair, washing, brushing and re-braiding.
Ooooh, that was better.
Lian Monday June 21st, 2004 11:31:06 PM
The monk walks to Olana's room, after getting dressed. He knocks on the door. "Can you braid my hair? Please." This is strange for the monk to do, or ask.
When they sit down in the room, he tells her. "I think my hearing is returning. Slowly."
Olana Tuesday June 22nd, 2004 12:06:51 AM
"Certainly," says Olana, beginning to braid Lian's hair with nimble fingers, "and its good to see your hearing returning. I think Figment wants to try and identify some of the items we found, and seems to think that painting might help. You know, the one with the elf in it? It would be nice if he could."
She attempts to imitate the style she's seen him wear before.
Lian Tuesday June 22nd, 2004 4:20:55 AM
"Thanks Olana." The monk looks at his braids. "Perfect." He says, even though its not exactly the same, its an improvement over the last style. And it feels great to be clean again.
"My hearing is still far from perfect. I hear clicks and hums and thats about it. Some muffled sounds mingle in as well."
"Can you repeat that part about Figment?" He sits there on the floor, legs crossed, trying not to look at Olana's lips while they move.
(OOC: Kent, about what percent of Lian's hearing would you say has returned at this point?)
Figment Tuesday June 22nd, 2004 6:53:49 AM
After bathing - and since it's stil early in the day - the mage moves off to one of the rooms with all the unidentified magic items. "I'll be a good long timeat this... I'd like a crack at that lantern too...". He begins his work with a detect magic to determine what types of magic each is. He then begins his analysisby using his identify spell - one after another until he's got them all. He breaks to eat, sleep, take care of personal tasks, and request supplies - but other than that, you don't see much of him. (I'll roll lots of dice if you want...).
Ingrge/DM Kent Tuesday June 22nd, 2004 2:15:05 PM
Ingrge hears Figment's comment about the items and speaks up. "Figment, Before we left I had six identify scrolls made up, which I will be glad to put to use with you."
(OOC David I will post the information on each item that you gleaned from the detect magic in spoiler format. How many identify spells do you have, for the 3.5 version only works on one item. Ingrge has one memorized and 6 scrolls, so that is seven items)
Gunther heads down for a drink and finds the inn nearly empty as most folk have gone back to work after their lunch break. In fact except for one "gentleman" sitting in the rear corner, he is the only patron in the inn proper.
Ingrge answers Athalorn quickly. You may certainly sleep outside if that is your wish although since it is now just barley past midday, I would try it yet.
Olana and Lian have their small interlude where Lian figure he is now fully hearing about 1 out of every 10 words spoken to him.
Falin starts working on his weapons and realizes just how long it hs been since he has felt safe enough to do a thorough job.
Bertram surrepticiously reads the note and finds that it says, Meet at Elindor's Rooming House just before sundown. Endrin There is a stylized fork printed underneath the tine leader's name.

The monk thanks the ranger for his braids and leaves for his room and much needed meditation, but before he does that, he lets Bertram and Ingrge know what he is feeling about his hearing loss. He stops at each of their rooms and says the same thing. "My hearing is returning and I have decided to just wait it out. As for my enchanted height, I would like this damned Ferryman curse removed."
Figment Tuesday June 22nd, 2004 10:54:05 PM
The mage take Ingrge up on his offer. He only has one spell memorized but decides to use it before they depart for the meeting. He also continues to focus his detect magic to pick up multiple auras, school of magic, etc. (Figment intends to examine each item with and Idetify spell until all of them are identified - even if it take s days or weeks.) "Ingrge, I would be honored if you were to join me in this endeavor - perhaps we could make quick work of it that way...".
Athalorn Wednesday June 23rd, 2004 4:52:44 AM
Athalorn sees Bertram looking at something, but pays it no heed. Instead, he joins Gunther downstairs. Now that it was quieter he felt a great deal more comfortable in the tavern, and orders an ale from the barkeep.
Turning to the big warrior, he speaks in a friendly tone. "So, friend. We both seem to have met this group at the same time. What led your path to them?"
Falin Wednesday June 23rd, 2004 7:33:24 AM
Feeling the way that he does and not knowing when he will get another chance to work on his weapons Falin will continue to care for his weapons until all of the grime and blood of the past several months have been removed from them.

Olana wanders downstairs, nods at the "gentleman" in the corner, and joins Gunther and Athalorn. ((Spot DC 16, Intelligence DC 21 - does she recognise the man in the corner maybe?))
She'll sip on a glass of wine and listen to what the two men have to say.
Brother Bertram Wednesday June 23rd, 2004 1:28:03 PM
Bertram pockets the note for the moment, glad for the diversion of supplied by Lian. Bertram relates the story of how Alemi and Domi became gods. Afterwards he takes Lian to Ingrge and shows the note and confers with his friends about how to proceed.
Gunther Wednesday June 23rd, 2004 5:04:46 PM
The warrior pulls up wooden stool when Athalorn arrives. He smiles warmly at the druid, feeling very comfortable around him. "Vell, dere is not much to say. I vas a hunter of sorts before I joined in on de adventure. I spent much time in de Scaab hunting exotic animals for adventurers. Perhaps trainer vould be a better term for my previous career." Gunther smiles as he flexes his massive muscles...the motion exaggerates the myriad of scars that criscross his arms. "I have trained many beast, but de kitties are my favorite. Von day I vill have von for a pet myself, but for now I tink it is best if I travel by myself. Sometimes de tigers are not vell received in de cities."
Gunther laughs loud and jovily, but his laughter is cut short by the arrival of Olana. The man runs his fingers through his now snow white hair in what is quite probably a nervous act. Could that be a faint blush as Olana approaches?? "Goot evening ma'am." Gunther manages as he clumsily pulls out another stool for the maiden. It looks as if he wishes to say more but the normally jovial hunter suddenly falls silent.
Athalorn Thursday June 24th, 2004 3:10:19 AM
Athalorn smiles as Gunther relates his tale, also feeling relaxed in the presence of the warrior. Although he disagreed with hunting wild animals, he wasn't a naive person, and was relieved that at least it wasn't blood hunting.
When Olana arrives, he smiles warmly at the Ranger, and also at Gunther's apparent nervousness. He was fairly sure that Olana, as a Ranger, wasn't used to such polite manners in the wild. Still, after bathing and resting a while she did look radiant. And it was always a warm feeling being around another who could call the Culverwood their home.
"Olana, tell me my friend. Can you tell us more of the group? Mohannin was not very forthcoming with his information. Then, I guess he never is. What aims do you pursue?"
The druid sips his ale, finding it hard to take his eyes of the elf maiden, but conscious of his manners.
Lian Thursday June 24th, 2004 3:34:31 AM
The clean monk gathers with the rest and he sees the druid, suprised, he laughs in good humor. "Wow, seems that there was skin under the layer of earth. You look well..."
His face straightens as he sees the druid 'eyeing' the female. "So, Olana, where do you think Milo went? Seems you two were getting close."
DM Kent Thursday June 24th, 2004 2:56:49 PM
Bretram brings the note to Ingrge and Ingrge shrugs. "Looks like we have a meeting to attend to this evening." I guess we are free until about 1 hour prior to the meeting where I suggest we meet back here. I would recomment that no one go anywhere alone..." Could you pass this along to the others. I will tell Figment as we work.
"So Figment, do you want to choose the first items that we fully identify. maybe some sort of prioirty system. We can each do one spell or scroll per hour so we can each do four items before we go to our meeting. Besides then we will be out of spells unitl tommorow.

Aware that Gunther seems a bit nervous, but not exactly sure why, Olana does her best to put the warrior at ease. "Please continue," she says with her usual bright smile. "Did you say something about tigers? I've never seen one of those."
At one point Athalorn asks about the group, and she lowers her voice a little, so that only those at the table can hear. "Our aim is to protect the Emerald Kingdom and its people. We didn't start out that way. It was Parnoth who brought us together, for some problem he wanted handling, but the more things went on, the more we felt like we should stand for those who live here, that they might have happier lives. "Sometimes, that means going up against... the green one. Up until lately he's been an utter tyrant, especially with the elven population, but now... we're not too sure. He was kidnapped, and they cut his hand, or claw off. The Gold Dragons had to rescue him. We heard word he'd changed after that, but who knows. "Right now I'm just wondering where we stand with the -" whispered " - Tines. It was they - a secret organisation, some of us are members, who originally set us on this noble path, but they seem to have changed, too." She ends with a shrug. "I think we'll need to watch our backs for a little while."
Her welcoming smile for Lian fails fast as the elven monk mentions Milo. How in all of Culverwood was she supposed to answer that???
Up to now she has managed to put to the back of her mind, a gnawing disquiet about her dear halfling friend. A friend who had gone VERY quiet after the dragon fight, and who seemed to prefer the drow's company. Well maybe that wasn't quite right, but he had been very quiet. Some of the time it was as though he wasn't there at all, just disappeared from view. It was all very odd. Her answer to Lian is a long sigh, followed by - "I think that dragon fight shook him up a little, so I've left him to rest."
Figment Thursday June 24th, 2004 10:03:42 PM
The mage sets the jeweled gloves, golden rapier and crystal telesope aside for now as they are non-magical. He does look through the telescope to ascertain its proprties. Looking at Ingrge he says "Let's focus on the Lantern. It has the strongest aura. These items (picks out those with the strongest aura's) are the most powrful. I'd say we'd do well to understand these first - but especially the lantern...". He picks out the wand staff and candles to work on first, leaving one spell for the lantern after Ingrge has his crack at it.
Ingrge Friday June 25th, 2004 8:33:26 AM
Nodding at Figment's choices, Ingrge moves among the items pulling a few out of the array. "Ok then I guess I will start with the lantern then. nt then I will lok at this beaten up lamp, the headband and the chainmail."
Gunther Friday June 25th, 2004 9:32:39 AM
Gunther recovers a little at the mention of his favorite subject. "Really? Dat is a shame. De kitties are probably von of de most majestic beasts dere are. Strong, powerful...dey can make very loyal and devoted pets. But of course, dey take lots of training. Dey can be stubborn sometimes..." Gunther rubs the scars on his chest. "But dey time spent is vell vorth all the pain." Gunther gauges Olana's response before continuing...finally a topic he could spend hours one.
Lian Saturday June 26th, 2004 6:20:47 PM
"I am retiring for the rest of the day. I need rest and excerise. I have missed training for days."
The monk disappears upstairs to his room where he preforms his Khata stretches and forms. Then meditates for however long is required.
Athalorn Monday June 28th, 2004 3:00:20 AM
Athalorn laughs at Lian's words. "Aye, it has been a while since I had a civilised bath, that is true." As he speaks, he runs a hand through his long, feathered hair.
He listens to Olana's whispered words with interest, agreeing with the apparent change in Parnoth. "You have seen a tiger, my friend. The beast i turned into on the constructs back - that was a tiger. As Gunther says, they are a powerful creature, one of nature's most terrifying predators. As for the quest, I think you are right - we should trust no one implicitly, save those who have shown their trust."
Lian Monday June 28th, 2004 3:17:07 AM
Before heading upstairs, the monk turns to the druid.
"Tigers are very powerful. There are exercises and stances I do that are named after them. Powerful hunters. All I have ever seen are the paintings hanging in the training room at the monestary near home."
Olana Tuesday June 29th, 2004 2:43:10 AM
"Oh!" exclaims the elf, as Athalorn explains the creature he'd turned into during the big fight. " So that's a tiger!"
She looks at Gunther, her eyes following his hand as he rubs at the scars on his chest. "I'm not sure I could handle such a creature. It seems very powerful, and might play a little too hard for me." Her laugh comes as a surprise to her. It has been a while.
She waves at Lian as he disappears up to his room. "You know we really do need a place of our own. You know that tower we passed on our way into town? I wonder..."
Lian Tuesday June 29th, 2004 4:42:14 AM
Lian glances at Olana, only having pieced a couple of words from her sentence. '...place... tower... town...' He scratches his head, but continues upstairs.

Bertram and the others pas the mesage about the meeting to the other Talons and all agree to meet in the common room 30 minutes before the meeting time with the Endrin.
While Falin and Lian rest and Ingrge and Figment cast spells the others drink and chat quietly getting to know each other a bit better. As they chat the inn door opens and a heavily robed abd coweld individual enters, looks around for a moment and walks over to Olana. Stopping in front of her, Olana can tell that the figure is another female elf, slightly built with the palest eyes she may have ever seen. Without saying a word she hands a folded and sealed piece of paper to her turns around and exits the inn. Opening the paper Olana sees six words written on the parchment.
Talons, Meet at Glade, midnight. Mohannin
Meanwhile up in the room Ingrge and Figment are having a doozy of a time.
Ingrge has no luck whatsoever with the artifact, infact as the spell is cast there is a bright flare of light and then nothing occurs. with a muttered curse and a glance at Figment he puts it asside and starts on the other pieces.
Artifact - NO INFO Lamp - Efreti Lamp Headband - Intellect +2 Chainmail - +2 Fire resistance spell resistance 15
Figment starts in on the items he has chosen and finds out some interesting things.

(ooc: Let me know if you want to try the Lantern as well.)
When they have finished they safeguard their things, collect Lian and Falin and head downstairs to meet the others.

(OOC: You mean the Artifact and Lantern aren't one in the same? ...oh well)
Lian, while understanding about the meeting, isn't happy his rest is disturbed, but quickly smiles and shrugs it off as 'Just another one of those things!'
He mutters to the group as the head out, "You realize, this could be another one of those famous amushes we often get into?!"
"Who delivered the note again?"
He thinks about all the loot left back at the rooms and how much the townees seemed interested in it. 'We went through so much for it!' He thinks.
Brother Bertram Tuesday June 29th, 2004 6:18:07 PM
As they leave Bertram turns the bartender and says loudly. "Sir I have marked each of our doors with a powerful curse sigul from Domi Himself. Please make sure that no one goes near them. I would not want to be responsible for the damage."

Athalorn Wednesday June 30th, 2004 9:16:05 AM
the druid sits with Olana and Gunther until the Talons group again in the bar. "All this secrecy," he exclaims, "Isn't good for my health." That siad, he was actually looking forward to meeting Mohannin again - hopefully his old master might be more forthcoming with information this time.
But first, there was another secret meeting to attend, one in which Athalorn had somewhat less confidence.
Falin Wednesday June 30th, 2004 1:18:36 PM
Still feeling a little paranoid from his ordeals, Falin loads back up will all of his weapons and belongings before heading downstairs.
He feels out of sorts just sitting around and is glad to hear that they are on the move again to a meeting.
Olana Wednesday June 30th, 2004 3:06:23 PM
Olana nods a silent farewell to the elf messenger and then passes the message on to the others.
"Moh-a-nnin," she mouths quietly to Lian, when she's sure no one in the tavern is looking.
Bertram's request to the bartender makes her smile.

(ooc: Jay the Artifact is part of the lantern, BUT is not the same as the battered Lamp. The lantern is very expensively and ornately decorated.)
Figment has a go at the artifact and cmes up with the same results; a big flare of energy and then nothing.
The Party meets in the common room and the innkeeper looks a bit askance and the unnerved by Bertram's announcement and stammers a quick, "I w..will m..make sure no one goes near your room."
The Talons leave the inn and with no problem arrives at the boarding house where they are supposed to meet Endrin. They are just a few minutes early but the place looks extremely dark and empty.
Lian d20+13=24 d20+4=13 Wednesday June 30th, 2004 7:21:10 PM
The monk looks around. (Spot 24, Search 13) Lian then gets a look of utter panic and realization in his eyes. "Decoys! We have likely been lead here so that the party in question can go to the inn unharrassed and retrieve the Artifact." He's sure this is whats happened, but stays with the Talons. It sounds paranoid, but considering all thats happened, he has every right to be a little on edge. Dragon-construct, finding artifact, almost eaten by a dragon, going deaf, then shrinking, drow girl friend and chased by a meriad of beasts, both flying and hopping.... Is it little wonder why he's twitchy?
Athalorn d20+18=23 d20+18=22 Thursday July 1st, 2004 3:09:49 AM
Before they leave, Athalorn calls Glannath down from the rooftops, whispering a command word to his friend to watch the window of the room in which the artifact and items are kept. "Guard, my friend," he speaks. Hopefully, Glannath should come and issue a warning to the druid if anyone enters the room.
The druid follows the party, uncomfortable in the dark urban streets, but not unfamiliar. When they arrive at the house, he looks around for signs of life (Spot 23, Listen 22)
Figment Thursday July 1st, 2004 6:10:28 AM
The mage sighs at his lack of results. "I'd say we should take the wands and small stuff with us...". He retrieves the more powerful items - to include the lantern - and brings it to the meeting.

Falin Friday July 2nd, 2004 12:23:47 AM
Falin follows quietly and with caution.
(occ: I will be on the road all day Friday and will not be posting. I am going to be on vacation for 2 weeks, but will have access to a computer. Until Monday everyone have a great weekend.)
DM Kent d20+16=19 d20+16=26 d20+16=22 Friday July 2nd, 2004 12:03:35 PM
As Olana is scouting around the building she comes across nothing unusual until she gets back with her friends and then almost as if from nowhere six individuals are there beside you. Endrin along with five others walk to the door and open it signaling for you to follow.
The room is dark inside and while you can see it is straining the humans a bit. Endrin and his times lead you without saying a word up some stairs down a hallway around a corner and down a another hallway. At the end of that hall is a black door which he opens and leads you through. Almost immediately you start to descend along a sloping passage. At the end of the passage there is another door. This one is wood and has several glyphs and other arcane writings upon it. Taking a few moment to softly murmur something that you cant hear, he opens this door as well and leads you in to a large cavernous room. Bertram could probably tell you that you all are now about 35 feet under ground. In the middle of the room are several tables and chairs and a circular fireplace. Along one side are a small barred cage, and several sets of manacles set in to the walls. There are three other doors visible in the room and one set of stairs going up and down.
As the last of the Talons enters the room, Endrin closes the door and once again mumbles something. He then walks over to the largest table, sits in the chair set at the head of the table, which also seems to be at a slightly higher elevation than the others and indicates that the rest of you Tines and Talons should take seats.
"So, you are back. I do hope this means you managed to complete your task. I would hate to think that you have returned without it."
Lian Friday July 2nd, 2004 3:36:24 PM
Not entirely happy about this whole situation, Lian makes his opinion quite clear, uncharacteristic of the monk.
"I am deaf because of you people. Why is it you could not take your stealthy fellows on your own mission?!" Lian's body language is very apparent, he doesn't want to be there at all, repeatedly looking at the door.
Olana Friday July 2nd, 2004 5:35:13 PM
"What is this place?" asks Olana quietly while Lian gives Endrin what for. She wrinkles her nose at the cage and the manacles.
Athalorn Monday July 5th, 2004 6:21:51 AM
the druid once again feels stifled being underground and feels imprisoned by the darkness and the ceiling. He begins to sweat slightly, and nervously clasps and unclasps his hands.
He sits when the others do, but says nothing, feeling that, perhaps, he should have stayed outside. After all, these Tines didn't know him.
Brother Bertram Monday July 5th, 2004 2:07:45 PM
Bertram stands against one wall, for some reason uneasy with the feelings he gets surrounded by this bunch. He holds his axe in his hand, not in a threatening way but merely at the ready.
DM kent Monday July 5th, 2004 10:03:50 PM
Endrin looks a bit askance at Lian's louder than normal outburst and gives him an almost feral smile.
"You do realize, little man, that the you people includes several of your own friends?" For several of them are longstanding members of our organizations." But then again what can you expect from commoners, naer-do-wells and orphans."
Shifting his haughty gaze to Olana for a moment, he answers her question.
"This place, as you call it, is our new headquarters. The last place became far to well known, for some reason. Most of the decorations were already here, so I decided to keep them. They have already come in handy a time or two in the weeks you were gone."
So have you the item? I... We have such plans. Parnoth must be stopped at any and all cost. He is an abomination that should be wiped from the face of the Wold. Once WE have removed him from the thrown then tuly can the vision of my Emerald Kingdom can start to come to fruition. I will lead the people of the Emerald Kingdom to their ultimate destinies.
So, tell me have you the item? What does it look like? What is it?" If you have it, you must now turn it over to me as the Leader of the Tines.
Falin d20+2=10 d20+2=20 Monday July 5th, 2004 11:09:02 PM
Hearing what is sounding more and more like a madman ranting, Falin will start to size up the room and competition. (occ: spot 10 and 20)
"Forgive me for not introducing myself. This talk of removing Parnoth is all fine and dandy, but the way you speak of YOUR Emerald Kingdom make it sound as if we would be removing one dictator only to replace it with another." Falin begins pacing and starts to raise his voice. "Tell me Endrin, what will happen to those people that don't want to follow your plan for the Emerald Kingdom? What if those commoners, naer-do-wells and orphans are the ones that decide what is best for themselves instead of following your plan?" With that Falin will stop (hopefully right in front of Endrin) and wait for a response.
Athalorn Tuesday July 6th, 2004 3:04:20 AM
Athalorn had not met this man before, and took an instant dislike to him. He seemed self contained to the point of madness, and the druid decided that although the Talon's quest had been made clear, they shouldn't aid this fellow in any circumstance.
Falin seemed to be in agreement, so the druid awaited the man's response. The room made Athalorn uneasy, and the chains on the wall turned this unease to loathing. A prison underground - the druids greatest fear...
Lian d20+9=24 Tuesday July 6th, 2004 4:08:43 AM
The monk quickly calms down and smiles back at Endrin. "Then my friends have done more than just caused my deaf, they saved me from sure death... snatched out death's jaws, literally. Where were you? ...Sitting back, waiting and plotting."
Then it all seems very clear, at least to him. He begins to laugh, rare for the monk. "Seems you have little respect for those you look to rule.
I also think you believe you can find Parnoth using the item. Parnoth is illusive.
Seeing as how I am not a member of your fine organization here, I feel no need to follow your orders." The monk walks back and waits next to Bertram.
(OOC: Sense Motive 24, what sort of 'hunch' does Lian get from Endrin?)
Figment d20+22=42 d20+9=12 Tuesday July 6th, 2004 8:06:50 AM
As the party walks throught the new place, he takes a moment and observes the glyphs and symbols on the doors and walls. He also tries to see if any of the pulse or flare when Endrin incants (Arcana DC 42!!).
As the exchange heats up the mage steps forward and clears his throat. Trying to play the peacemaker, he still keeps his eyes on Endrin, trying to understand his motives and sanity (Sense Motive DC 12). "Please friends, its been a long day for us all. No need to be combative. It sounds like the Tines' time here has been as challenging as our own... So Endrin, what has happened since we left? It appears most of the elves has fled the city - yet again. It also seems you were found out by someone you didn't want to know your whereabouts. By the way, I think Parnoth genereally knows where the Tines headquarters have been all along. At least that was my impression when he required an audience of us. As you can see, we also have some new members among the Talons. They have fought to the point of death and are a primary reason we have survived so far. Please understand that Lian's (with a glance to him) method of conversation is caused by an injury - he is mostly deaf right this moment. We were cursed in our quest.".
The mage stands casually, hoping to ease Endrin's fears.
Olana Tuesday July 6th, 2004 11:54:20 AM
Olana blinks, quite shocked at this man's audacity. It puts her mind in a bit of a muddle - after all, they were supposed to be on the good side of things, weren't they? Eww, and this just didn't seem like the good side at all. She has a hard time stopping herself from sighing and rolling her eyes. Instead she smiles sweetly.
"I'd like to know more about your vision and our ultimate destinies," she asks.
Brother Bertram Tuesday July 6th, 2004 4:08:39 PM
Bertram comes over listening to the conversation and makes a decision quickly. With a quick move he drops the axe into the center of the table, cracking it down the center. His dagger is out in a flash and aimed at Endrin. He growls at the Tine. "YOu will not sit and berate and insult us while we stand and listen. So if you even breathe a foul word from your lips again I will cut out your tongue and stuff it down your arrogant throat. If it was easy you would have already recovered what you sought. Now try some using some basic courtesy or try us orphans, commoners, and neer-do-wells and see how you like it."
Ingrge Tuesday July 6th, 2004 9:38:17 PM
The Talon's curent leader steps up and puts his hand on Bertram's shoulder and softly speaks just so everyone can hear. "Friend Bertram, put away your weapons, I believe this... person is testing us for some reason."
Turning to Endrin, he continues. "So, have we passed your test? Do we still have the fire to fight for the Emerald Kingdom? I think you probably could have been a bit more tactful than you were, but then again you are no Tremaine either. Now we can sit or stand and trade jibes and insults, or we can discuss what we are hear to discuss."

(Lian senses that a good part of his motives are of a testing nature.)
(Figment sees a little dimming of the glyphs as you enter and slight brightening of them as he closes the door behind you.)
Endrin doesnt even flinch at Bertram's actions or at any of the diatribe sent his way by Falin and the other Talons, though a smile does work across his face. As Ingrge speaks, his smile gets wider until Tremaine's name is mentioned and then his visage visibly darkens. He recovers rapidly.
"So I see that most of you still have a bit of pluck in you. I was hoping that you still had loyalty to the People of the Emerald Kingdom. Ingrge is correct I was merely testing you. We can't have any of Parnoth's lackeys infiltrating us any again. As for my vision of the Emerald Kingdom, several of you have had the same vision once or twice before.
Things have been a bit uneasy since you left. There has been unrest in and out of the city. There have been unexplained disapearances of men and elves, but mostly of elves. There haven't been any edicts as before, but many of the elves aren't taking any chances and are leaving the city anyway. Anyways, come let us all sit down and let me introduce you to the others.
Endrin indicates chairs for you and waves his people over as well.
For those who don't know me, I am Endrin the current leaderof the Tines. To my left is my older brother and second in command Lucius. The other four are my lieutenants Browal, Lerith, Jerell and Berryl.
Endrin is handsome, maybe overly so. He is now exuding confidence and relaxed comfort. He is very welled muscled and looks quite fit. There are two rapiers at his waist.
Lucius looks like he is a knowledgable mage type, and is carrying a staff in his hands.
Browel is wearing leathers and carries a rapier, but also has a lute strung to his half elven back.
Jerell looks like she might could go several round with Bertram and not look the worse for wear. She is also a half elf. Unusual, for an elf, is the battle axe she has stapped to he back.
Berryl looks very quiet and sad in her brown robes. she has a wand tucked into her sash.
Lerith is a very nondescript young lady with a brace of daggers across her front. She too looks like she can handle herself if it came to a fight.
After intros are completed, Endrin looks over at the Talons and asks, "So, how was your trip?
Athalorn Wednesday July 7th, 2004 3:09:18 AM
The druid still feels uneasy, but at least it looked like there would be no fight here today. The druid stands, his new height of 6'6 towering over those gathered, his long unkempt hair and feathers therein tied giving him a wild look. He speaks to the Tines, Cautiously but politely. "Greetings, strangers, althtough a strange greeting to my eyes. I am Athalorn, of the Culverwood, sent by Mohannin to help the Talons. Mohannin's word is sound enough judgement for me to realise these people mean well. But I have not had chance to learn of your part in the travels they have faced? Tell me, what force guides your part in this tale?"
Lian Wednesday July 7th, 2004 9:26:21 AM
"Did he just ask about the 'trip'? Is that what I heard? Well, it was a tip-toe through the tulips Endrin, thanks for asking. I am sorry you missed it." The elf says, more sarcastically than he's ever sounded before.
Olana Wednesday July 7th, 2004 4:44:26 PM
Olana gives Lian a gentle nudge in the ribs, trying not to smile at the 'tiptoe through the tulips' part. As for the 'all part of a test' thing - she doesn't believe a word of it, and they could all look as tough as they liked, right now it was these Tines people who were under scrutiny, not the Talons, as far as Olana is concerned.
Nevertheless - she smiles politely at each of those introduced.
Figment Wednesday July 7th, 2004 10:46:02 PM

Athalorn Friday July 9th, 2004 3:02:35 AM
The druid watches the proceedings, and is unsatisifed by Endrin's response. He strongly feels that the party should not surrender such a valuable artifact so easily, but as a newcomer feels out of place. That said he moves towards Ingrge, his mind alert.

Still having bad feelings about this whole meeting Gunther stays near Olana. She can hear him mutter under his breath.

Ingrge Friday July 9th, 2004 7:16:27 AM
Ingrge gets the sense from his compatriots that they are not wholly happy about this situation, but Ingrge feels their hands are tied by their agreement. Thinking a momnet or so longer, he comes to a decision.
"Yes, we did find it, and though it wasn't easy we managed to bring it back. And yes we brought it with us to this meeting."
He looks around at his fellow talons and then continues.
"I have some trepidation about turning it over as I do not know what it does or how powerful it is, but we made an agreement that we would, so we will turn it over. However, as we endured so much to bring this thing back, I insist that one of our group to stay with you and help with the research and discovery. I will choose who it is to be and there will be no discussion. If you do not agree with this then I think we might keep the item ourslves."
Dm Kent Friday July 9th, 2004 10:50:48 AM
Endrin listens to Ingrge for a moment and then looks at each of the members pausing the longest on Athalorn, Figment and Ingrge.
"That's fine. We and I would welcome the assistance of one of you in helping discover what this item is and does."
Pausing a moment, he looks Ingrge in the eye.
So, can we see the item now?"
With a slight tilt of of his head, Ingrge looks over at Figment and gives him a nod.
Olana Friday July 9th, 2004 11:16:51 AM
So who was going to stay, Olana wonders, quietly watching the interchange. Would they look greedy if they said they wanted to keep it? Perhaps it was better if someone else had the artifact. Who knew? Part of her wishes they'd never gone and got the thing in the first place.
Figment Friday July 9th, 2004 9:29:24 PM
