Endrin looks a bit askance at Lian's louder than normal outburst and gives him an almost feral smile.
"You do realize, little man, that the you people includes several of your own friends?" For several of them are longstanding members of our organizations." But then again what can you expect from commoners, naer-do-wells and orphans."
Shifting his haughty gaze to Olana for a moment, he answers her question.
"This place, as you call it, is our new headquarters. The last place became far to well known, for some reason. Most of the decorations were already here, so I decided to keep them. They have already come in handy a time or two in the weeks you were gone."
So have you the item? I... We have such plans. Parnoth must be stopped at any and all cost. He is an abomination that should be wiped from the face of the Wold. Once WE have removed him from the thrown then tuly can the vision of my Emerald Kingdom can start to come to fruition. I will lead the people of the Emerald Kingdom to their ultimate destinies.
So, tell me have you the item? What does it look like? What is it?" If you have it, you must now turn it over to me as the Leader of the Tines.
Falin d20+2=10 d20+2=20 Monday July 5th, 2004 11:09:02 PM
Hearing what is sounding more and more like a madman ranting, Falin will start to size up the room and competition. (occ: spot 10 and 20)
"Forgive me for not introducing myself. This talk of removing Parnoth is all fine and dandy, but the way you speak of YOUR Emerald Kingdom make it sound as if we would be removing one dictator only to replace it with another." Falin begins pacing and starts to raise his voice. "Tell me Endrin, what will happen to those people that don't want to follow your plan for the Emerald Kingdom? What if those commoners, naer-do-wells and orphans are the ones that decide what is best for themselves instead of following your plan?" With that Falin will stop (hopefully right in front of Endrin) and wait for a response.
Athalorn Tuesday July 6th, 2004 3:04:20 AM
Athalorn had not met this man before, and took an instant dislike to him. He seemed self contained to the point of madness, and the druid decided that although the Talon's quest had been made clear, they shouldn't aid this fellow in any circumstance.
Falin seemed to be in agreement, so the druid awaited the man's response. The room made Athalorn uneasy, and the chains on the wall turned this unease to loathing. A prison underground - the druids greatest fear...
Lian d20+9=24 Tuesday July 6th, 2004 4:08:43 AM
The monk quickly calms down and smiles back at Endrin. "Then my friends have done more than just caused my deaf, they saved me from sure death... snatched out death's jaws, literally. Where were you? ...Sitting back, waiting and plotting."
Then it all seems very clear, at least to him. He begins to laugh, rare for the monk. "Seems you have little respect for those you look to rule.
I also think you believe you can find Parnoth using the item. Parnoth is illusive.
Seeing as how I am not a member of your fine organization here, I feel no need to follow your orders." The monk walks back and waits next to Bertram.
(OOC: Sense Motive 24, what sort of 'hunch' does Lian get from Endrin?)
Figment d20+22=42 d20+9=12 Tuesday July 6th, 2004 8:06:50 AM
As the party walks throught the new place, he takes a moment and observes the glyphs and symbols on the doors and walls. He also tries to see if any of the pulse or flare when Endrin incants (Arcana DC 42!!).
As the exchange heats up the mage steps forward and clears his throat. Trying to play the peacemaker, he still keeps his eyes on Endrin, trying to understand his motives and sanity (Sense Motive DC 12). "Please friends, its been a long day for us all. No need to be combative. It sounds like the Tines' time here has been as challenging as our own... So Endrin, what has happened since we left? It appears most of the elves has fled the city - yet again. It also seems you were found out by someone you didn't want to know your whereabouts. By the way, I think Parnoth genereally knows where the Tines headquarters have been all along. At least that was my impression when he required an audience of us. As you can see, we also have some new members among the Talons. They have fought to the point of death and are a primary reason we have survived so far. Please understand that Lian's (with a glance to him) method of conversation is caused by an injury - he is mostly deaf right this moment. We were cursed in our quest.".
The mage stands casually, hoping to ease Endrin's fears.
Olana Tuesday July 6th, 2004 11:54:20 AM
Olana blinks, quite shocked at this man's audacity. It puts her mind in a bit of a muddle - after all, they were supposed to be on the good side of things, weren't they? Eww, and this just didn't seem like the good side at all. She has a hard time stopping herself from sighing and rolling her eyes. Instead she smiles sweetly.
"I'd like to know more about your vision and our ultimate destinies," she asks.
Brother Bertram Tuesday July 6th, 2004 4:08:39 PM
Bertram comes over listening to the conversation and makes a decision quickly. With a quick move he drops the axe into the center of the table, cracking it down the center. His dagger is out in a flash and aimed at Endrin. He growls at the Tine. "YOu will not sit and berate and insult us while we stand and listen. So if you even breathe a foul word from your lips again I will cut out your tongue and stuff it down your arrogant throat. If it was easy you would have already recovered what you sought. Now try some using some basic courtesy or try us orphans, commoners, and neer-do-wells and see how you like it."
Ingrge Tuesday July 6th, 2004 9:38:17 PM
The Talon's curent leader steps up and puts his hand on Bertram's shoulder and softly speaks just so everyone can hear. "Friend Bertram, put away your weapons, I believe this... person is testing us for some reason."
Turning to Endrin, he continues. "So, have we passed your test? Do we still have the fire to fight for the Emerald Kingdom? I think you probably could have been a bit more tactful than you were, but then again you are no Tremaine either. Now we can sit or stand and trade jibes and insults, or we can discuss what we are hear to discuss."

(Lian senses that a good part of his motives are of a testing nature.)
(Figment sees a little dimming of the glyphs as you enter and slight brightening of them as he closes the door behind you.)
Endrin doesnt even flinch at Bertram's actions or at any of the diatribe sent his way by Falin and the other Talons, though a smile does work across his face. As Ingrge speaks, his smile gets wider until Tremaine's name is mentioned and then his visage visibly darkens. He recovers rapidly.
"So I see that most of you still have a bit of pluck in you. I was hoping that you still had loyalty to the People of the Emerald Kingdom. Ingrge is correct I was merely testing you. We can't have any of Parnoth's lackeys infiltrating us any again. As for my vision of the Emerald Kingdom, several of you have had the same vision once or twice before.
Things have been a bit uneasy since you left. There has been unrest in and out of the city. There have been unexplained disapearances of men and elves, but mostly of elves. There haven't been any edicts as before, but many of the elves aren't taking any chances and are leaving the city anyway. Anyways, come let us all sit down and let me introduce you to the others.
Endrin indicates chairs for you and waves his people over as well.
For those who don't know me, I am Endrin the current leaderof the Tines. To my left is my older brother and second in command Lucius. The other four are my lieutenants Browal, Lerith, Jerell and Berryl.
Endrin is handsome, maybe overly so. He is now exuding confidence and relaxed comfort. He is very welled muscled and looks quite fit. There are two rapiers at his waist.
Lucius looks like he is a knowledgable mage type, and is carrying a staff in his hands.
Browel is wearing leathers and carries a rapier, but also has a lute strung to his half elven back.
Jerell looks like she might could go several round with Bertram and not look the worse for wear. She is also a half elf. Unusual, for an elf, is the battle axe she has stapped to he back.
Berryl looks very quiet and sad in her brown robes. she has a wand tucked into her sash.
Lerith is a very nondescript young lady with a brace of daggers across her front. She too looks like she can handle herself if it came to a fight.
After intros are completed, Endrin looks over at the Talons and asks, "So, how was your trip?
Athalorn Wednesday July 7th, 2004 3:09:18 AM
The druid still feels uneasy, but at least it looked like there would be no fight here today. The druid stands, his new height of 6'6 towering over those gathered, his long unkempt hair and feathers therein tied giving him a wild look. He speaks to the Tines, Cautiously but politely. "Greetings, strangers, althtough a strange greeting to my eyes. I am Athalorn, of the Culverwood, sent by Mohannin to help the Talons. Mohannin's word is sound enough judgement for me to realise these people mean well. But I have not had chance to learn of your part in the travels they have faced? Tell me, what force guides your part in this tale?"
Lian Wednesday July 7th, 2004 9:26:21 AM
"Did he just ask about the 'trip'? Is that what I heard? Well, it was a tip-toe through the tulips Endrin, thanks for asking. I am sorry you missed it." The elf says, more sarcastically than he's ever sounded before.
Olana Wednesday July 7th, 2004 4:44:26 PM
Olana gives Lian a gentle nudge in the ribs, trying not to smile at the 'tiptoe through the tulips' part. As for the 'all part of a test' thing - she doesn't believe a word of it, and they could all look as tough as they liked, right now it was these Tines people who were under scrutiny, not the Talons, as far as Olana is concerned.
Nevertheless - she smiles politely at each of those introduced.
Figment Wednesday July 7th, 2004 10:46:02 PM
The mage smiles at the tine leader. "The trip was what you would expect: Extremely perilous and fraught with danger. So what else has transpired since we've been away?".
Brother Bertram Wednesday July 7th, 2004 11:50:13 PM
Bertram calms somewhat at Ingrge's words, but does not loosen his grip on his axe. He does relax somewhat but his anger is slow to fade.

The monk simply stands by, having said his peace.
Figment Thursday July 8th, 2004 11:31:25 PM
The mage glances at Ingrge, deciding to let him be the one who offers the item.
Athalorn Friday July 9th, 2004 3:02:35 AM
The druid watches the proceedings, and is unsatisifed by Endrin's response. He strongly feels that the party should not surrender such a valuable artifact so easily, but as a newcomer feels out of place. That said he moves towards Ingrge, his mind alert.
Bertram Friday July 9th, 2004 7:02:26 AM
Remaining by Ingerge's side, Bertram glares at Endrin. The only sound issuing from him being a "hhmmpphh" when Endrin asks about the artifact.
Gunther Friday July 9th, 2004 7:05:47 AM
Still having bad feelings about this whole meeting Gunther stays near Olana. She can hear him mutter under his breath.
"Zumting ees not guut here."
Ingrge Friday July 9th, 2004 7:16:27 AM
Ingrge gets the sense from his compatriots that they are not wholly happy about this situation, but Ingrge feels their hands are tied by their agreement. Thinking a momnet or so longer, he comes to a decision.
"Yes, we did find it, and though it wasn't easy we managed to bring it back. And yes we brought it with us to this meeting."
He looks around at his fellow talons and then continues.
"I have some trepidation about turning it over as I do not know what it does or how powerful it is, but we made an agreement that we would, so we will turn it over. However, as we endured so much to bring this thing back, I insist that one of our group to stay with you and help with the research and discovery. I will choose who it is to be and there will be no discussion. If you do not agree with this then I think we might keep the item ourslves."
Dm Kent Friday July 9th, 2004 10:50:48 AM
Endrin listens to Ingrge for a moment and then looks at each of the members pausing the longest on Athalorn, Figment and Ingrge.
"That's fine. We and I would welcome the assistance of one of you in helping discover what this item is and does."
Pausing a moment, he looks Ingrge in the eye.
So, can we see the item now?"
With a slight tilt of of his head, Ingrge looks over at Figment and gives him a nod.
Olana Friday July 9th, 2004 11:16:51 AM
So who was going to stay, Olana wonders, quietly watching the interchange. Would they look greedy if they said they wanted to keep it? Perhaps it was better if someone else had the artifact. Who knew? Part of her wishes they'd never gone and got the thing in the first place.
Figment Friday July 9th, 2004 9:29:24 PM
Seeing Ingrge's signal, the mage pulls off his pack and extracts the lantern - but makes SURE and not return the compass... :).
"This item has resisted identificaion. Stronger magic will be needed to get more information. It will take time... Use it well, my friend. It is indeed powerful. So tell me, do you have an idea about what we ought to do with it?".
Lian Saturday July 10th, 2004 1:32:20 AM
The elf isn't sure whether to be glad these Tines are 'taking care of' Parnoth, or to feel sad for the old greeny and his ending reign.
Ambivalence aside, he's sure either 'power' that holds the Kingdom will have its drawbacks.
Power corrupts, even the most noble of men and these... this Tine, Endrin, isn't an exception. Fact is, he might be more easily swayed. At least with the dragon, you had some symbolance of order... most times.
Athalorn Saturday July 10th, 2004 6:13:41 AM
Athalorn returns Endrins gaze, not breaking it. He feels a sudden sense of anxiety that this was a huge step in this changing world. A step towards ending Parnoth's hold. Was this a good thing? The druid wasn't sure, but would feel happier with the old beast in charge than this stranger.
Still, he holds his tongue - he had been sent to help these people and they seemed determined to pass the artifact to Endrin.
Gunther Monday July 12th, 2004 12:19:41 AM
Looking up suddenly as if waking up from long bad daydream, Gunther eyes the Tine's leader nervously. Deep inside he didn't like the guy. Gunther shoots a quick look at Olana...looks like she didn't care for the man either. The warrior sighs deeply as the artifact is handed over. It may not be the best decision, but like it or not, the artifact was the Tines now.
Bertram Monday July 12th, 2004 7:47:06 AM
Uneasy about all of this, Bertram follows Ingrge's lead, but doesn't relax his defensive posture.
DM Kent Monday July 12th, 2004 7:58:14 AM
Endrin smile splits wide as Figment reaches into his pack and brings forth the Lantern. For a moment there is a confused look on Endrin's face and he looks at Ingrge for confirmation. Getting the nod, he indicates that Figment should just place it on the table.
"Well. this is somewhat of a suprise. I was expecting, actually, I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't a lantern."
As to what we should do wth it or what it is or what it does? we really do not know. There are hints that it has something to do with Parnoth's control over the Kingdom, but that is what we are going to try and discover."
"So Ingrge which of you two mages is staying with us to help with this trasure?"
Ingrge looks a bit suprised at this comment and then quickly recovers.
" Actually Endrin, I never said who was going to stay with you and help and I never said it was going to be a mage that stayed. But now that you have asked, Milo will be staying with you during this time. He will return in the morning with his things and he will be sending us coded letters to us daily in order to keep us apprised on how the work is coming along."
"So for tonight we are done and we have to get some rest as we are a bit tired from our travels of late, so if you will kindly ecsort us out we will be on our way and Milo can return inthe morning."
Lian Monday July 12th, 2004 9:34:44 AM
The monk smirks at Ingrge's demands on Endrin, and nearly chuckles as he states Milo is staying put. Nothing suprises the elf anymore.
Figment Monday July 12th, 2004 9:01:56 PM
The mage places the lantern on the table. "Best of luck, it resists standard identify spells and did not yield anything with a detect magic. Good luck, sir - I believe you will need it. I would be very interested in reviewing the work of your mages - and perhps help if possible.".
Gunther Monday July 12th, 2004 11:27:31 PM
Gunther grins at Ingrge suggests rest. He eagerly anticipates the down time, seeing as he had a few practice drills he wanted to do...and of course...maybe a little socialization.
Olana Tuesday July 13th, 2004 1:53:41 AM
Olana looks a little surprised as Milo's name is mentioned, although - maybe it wasn't a bad idea. He'd certainly be able to keep his eye on things without being overtly noticed.
She gets ready to go. They did have a meeting with Mohaninn, then they had to figure out what to do with that dragon haul. Ohhhhh, if the truth were known, she just wanted to go and sit in a tree for about 12 hours.
Athalorn Tuesday July 13th, 2004 3:02:22 AM
Now that this business was over, the druid steps towards the exit - eager to be leaving this underground place as quickly as possible.
"Now we are done, let us return to the inn, my friends. We have business to attend to," he speaks, thinking of the meeting with Mohannin.

I know that I must have come across as a bit of a raver down there, but I have been under a bit of pressure with all that has been going on. As they set off - "I seem to remember something about ancient elves, and that Tower," says Olana. "But other than that, I don't know. I suppose we'll need to find out."
She's glad to be out of that place, too, and although she'd smiled and bid a friendly good night to the Tine leader, she was still a little unsure. And what did he need those manacles for? And that cage?
She'll set out with the others, and if its to the Tower, then so be it.
Athalorn Wednesday July 14th, 2004 3:02:16 AM

Ingrge Wednesday July 14th, 2004 7:09:04 AM
Umm guys, that tower, if you recall was litterally infected with undead of quite a few kinds. I'm not sure I want head there during the night time. I mean we have to pass it on our way to the Grove, so we can take a look but I'm not so sure we want to enter it again.
Bertram Wednesday July 14th, 2004 7:44:59 AM
Hmmm, we may need to do something about that tower at some point but for now I'm just glad to be out of Endrin's presence. For some reason he got on my nerves a little. I mean it is a nice night and the moon is full; lets go toward the grove and see what we can see.
Figment Wednesday July 14th, 2004 10:21:45 PM

The walk to the tower is actually quite a plesant one, with the full moon shinging brightly over everything. As you approach the tower you do hear a eerie soft moaning wail that seems to be eminating from the tower itself, but once again it appears like someone has been mantaining the grounds inside the wall as you have a clear view to the tower itself.
The rest of the walk to the grove is a quiet one and you make it quite quickly arriving just slightly before midnight. Mohannin is waiting for you just outside the glade with a very serious look upon his face.

The druid, and Glannath, land in nearby trees when they approach the grove. Seeing Mohannin, Athalorn jumps to the ground, then quickly reverts to human form. Man, if he could help it, he would stay as an Eagle permanently. If only they could talk !
He speaks a quick greeting in the secret language of the druids. "Greetings once again, Mohannin. I have done as you asked." The venerable druid didn't look in the mood for frivolity, so he quickly continued; "You look concerned, my old friend."
Falin Thursday July 15th, 2004 2:33:04 PM

"I still thought he got a little excited there in the begining and I don't buy the bit about a test. Nothing I can prove mind you, but just a feeling."

Mohannin looks each of you over, gives a nod to Athalorn to Lian and a sly wink to Olana and then beckoning you to follow him he turns and leads you into the grove. As the last of the talons passes underneath the trees and into the grove proper, a thousand little lights suddenly pop into existance and you suddenly realize that there are about 50 elves standing around the grove each with a glass raised to you. With one voice they all say. "Too the Talons" As the toast is concluded several younger elves rush up with glasses for each of you and trailing right behind them, coming toward you, with a smile on her face nearly as bright as her sword is K'nara.
Lian Thursday July 15th, 2004 10:42:47 PM
"Well, I'll be a beardless dwarf! K'Nara!!" The elven monk walks up to her and salutes the former leader of the Talons. "Your not teasing us? Are you returning?" Asks the monk, hopeful for the 'right' answer.
Athalorn Friday July 16th, 2004 3:11:09 AM
Athalorn smiles warmly in the grove - much more comfortable than in any town or city. He gladly accepts the glass from the elf taht hands it to him with a friendly thankyou in the elven tongue.
He looks at K'Nara, who everyone else seems to know. He smiles, and intorduces himself. "I am Athalorn, a recent companion of the Talons." He nervously runs his hand through his long hair, hoping someone might introduce them properly."
