Towards a meeting with the enemy

Notice taken - Dm Ian
Thursday July 15th, 2004 2:45:30 AM

The group banters in a friendly manner as the go about making camp. The jungle wildlife is still well behaved even as the sun goes down, and Jandar steps aside to call out his prayer of control weather.

As always, it takes just a moment to move energies that far away, but as Jandar feels his prayer reach out into the Wold, something massive moves all around the party.

For just a moment, near and far, the entire presence of the jungle looks at the Storms, from sky and earth. It is a sensation of awesome power roused, but as soon as it comes, it breaks with a parting image, and recedes. The group is left with the image of a familiar treant somewhere in the jungle smiling at you, and speaking to the jungle in your names.

The spell then functions as usual.

The consecrate spells are less earthshaking, cast as normal, and the night passes without attack or (apparently) anyone being turned into a frog.

In the morning the Storms pack up and move out. The jungle is still tame and well-behaved, with the distant presence perceptible to all in the party now, like a gentle breeze from time to time upon the back of your necks.

Just before noon the Storms arrive at the base of the mountains, and start northward. The animal sounds are lessened, and seemingly only emanating from the increasingly distant depths of the jungle. The paths along the edge of the abrupt mountains are mostly animal derived, but from time to time there are faded bootprints, and in one place, an old, weathered boot stuck in dried mud.

By midafternoon, the Storms arrive at the base of the pass leading up into the mountains. The trail appears to start out wide and unencumbered, rising up a gentle valley between two nearby small peaks.

(Feel free to make a survival check if you have the Tracking feat. A successful check against DC 16 will reveal the following. Highlight to display spoiler: {Humanoids roughly human sized have been through this area several times in the last several months. They have poorly made boots, and don't seem to weigh enough to be heavily armored.}

Nonam
Thursday July 15th, 2004 10:57:20 AM

Nonam thinks quietly about lichdom as the group walks. It seemed a way to power and knowledge. But, there was always a but, did the transformation make you "evil" or was it the wrong sort of men who pursued the change in the past?

Surrender - Dm Ian
Thursday July 15th, 2004 7:49:52 PM

The Storms maintain a reasonable pace as they progress up the lushly green valley-pass, passing through light copses of jungle vegetation growing thinner the further the group gets from the jungle's edge.

Looking back and eastward, Onrad can tell where the large predators might be in the jungle. They displace a large amount of vegetation, and occasionally groups of birds or small green things that might be large frogs burst out over the treetops fleeing a predator. However, none of these beasts are within an easy half mile of the path the Storms took through the jungle. It is as if something held a passage open for the group.

Kieran apparently is still asleep throughout this section of the journey. Light but everpresent snoring fills Jus' telepathic hearing the whole morning.

Nonam remembers only tidbits about the actual process of achieving lichdom off the top of his head. It has a reputation as a vile process that only those dedicated to darkness have the stomach to fulfill, but at the same time, many of the high level magics have legends and rumor associated with them. The wish spell, for instance, is feared in many places, for the power it can extend to entirely mortal and often unreasonable arcanists.

Almost halfway through the rising valley, the Storms come through a light stand of trees and into a meadow lined on both sides by trees nestling up against the rock walls. The meadow is about two hundred feet wide, and rises slowly over at least six hundred feet to a narrower, rock lined trail leading up into the pass itself.

Standing in the middle of the meadow about three hundred feet away is a single very frightened orc. He is wearing the poorly kept chainmail typical of his race and carrying longspear that you can see shaking from here. In his other hand he grasps a rolled parchement of some sort. Onrad spots that on his right leg there is a rope tied leading down into the grass. To either side of the orc Nonam can see a faint illusion magic covering a large, circular section of ground perhaps thirty feet in radius.

The orc starts frantically waving its spear when it sees the group. The movement makes a white pennant attached to the tip flare and wave in the still air.

Nonam
Friday July 16th, 2004 11:33:31 AM

Calling out in the language of orcs, "Why are you tied up there?"

[I think Nonam speaks orc, but my character sheet isn't handy.]

Jerry
Friday July 16th, 2004 5:02:50 PM

There's magic around him too. Be careful. Could be bait.

Notice also how the area here has been seemingly cleared of beasties for our passage. We are being led here....or pushed.

I hate being manipulated.

He shakes his fist at the sky and intently, but almost as a whisper demands: "Show yourself? Why do you direct us?"

Jus  d20+6=24 d20+6=18 d20+6=12
Friday July 16th, 2004 9:32:46 PM

"Strange that he is trying to get our attention," Jus adds. "And if there is magic around him as you say, Onard, his actions look more like a friend."

Jus looks and thinks for a while. "Could it be another illusion; seems like we're seeing them every day now."

Jus kneels down and checks for tracks in front of the party, looking for any Orc or other recent travels into this passage. [Track check = 24 (good for hard ground DC of 20); Not sure how to tell if I know what type of tracks I'm looking at, so: Knowledge Nature = 18; Survival = 12]

Saturday July 17th, 2004 12:34:56 AM

Jandar just watches the surrounding area, looking for any signs of a possible ambush. He knows the others are capable of figuring it out. He unhooks his warhammer from his belt and puls it out, giving it a few small swings to warm up his seldom used muscles.

A message on two legs - Dm Ian
Saturday July 17th, 2004 1:11:09 AM

In response to Nonam, the orc starts screaming in his own language, "No Kill! No kill! Bad darkness make Throg come for give paper words! No kill!"

He certainly seems genuinely frightened at this range, from his shaking posture to the hysterical tone of his voice.

Onrad's defiant gesture seems to go unanswered... for know.

Looking around, Jandar and Jus do not see anything unusual in the lower section of this valley-clearing, but Jandar catches signs of crushed plants here and there down the valley in line with the illusions pointed out to either side of the gesticulating orc.

Tericus
Saturday July 17th, 2004 9:59:36 AM

Tericus looks at Onrad and says "You get used to it." then he mutters a quick prayer and then scans the area(cast detect evil)

[ooc. Hi all. I'm thinking that I should come back full splendor to the Wold here in the next couple of days. I'm going to be out of town on Mon and Tues, and unsure whether I'll have access. But I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get back now, and bring my other characters upto speed soon! :)]

[ooc stepping back a little bit, correct me if I'm wrong]"We may want to let the WeaponsMaster know that there are some element of the Lich's in his house. It is unsure whether he would know this or not. But the phylacteries maybe a further bargaining chip with him and whoever remains of the house."

When the group approaches the orc, Addinein does his best to fade into the woodwork. (HS 17, MS 20). Fearing others that might be in the area, he does his best to look around and sense if there are others in the area. (Spot 6, Listen 9)( arrgghh!)

Jandar  d20+16=33
Sunday July 18th, 2004 12:29:32 AM

Jandar points out the crushed plants to the sides, then says,"I'll be right back. I'll dispel this illusion, and see what we really have going on, but I have to get into range."

He walks forward 50 feet or so, leans his warhammer up against his leg and casts 'Greater Dispel Magic' on the illusion around the orc.

Gareth
Monday July 19th, 2004 10:34:24 AM

The warrior looks at the scene a minute and offers "I'm going to have a look around...". He turns invisible and flies straight up as to get as much perspective as possible as quickly as possible. He'll look around for any kind of an ambush.

Nonam
Monday July 19th, 2004 12:53:39 PM

"Bad darkness? Do you mean a dead man who still walks?"

As he questions the orc, Nonam studies the auras of the magics around it - up until the point Jandar dispels them anyway.

Onrad
Monday July 19th, 2004 12:55:04 PM

Onrad appeases the orc. "It's ok little man. We're not here to hurt ya. So give us this message and you can go your way. If it helps us we'll even tip ya. Especially if you tell us who gave you the message?"

He begins to approach the boundary of the magic slowly waiting for Jandar's dispel to hopefully work on it. He keeps his posture peaceful.

Preparations - Dm Ian  d20+17=29
Monday July 19th, 2004 6:03:29 PM

Addenein slips back into the shadows as Nonam shouts, and Onrad and Jandar move up.

The orc nods vigorously in reply to Nonam.

"Dark walking dead man. Never see face, always see bad rotting catman with! Take paper and let go!"

With this, the orc acknowledges Onrad, drops his spear, and begins to jog forward, his scroll held before him.

At about this point Jandar finishes his prayer of greater dispel magic, and both illusions are dispelled.

To either side of the orcs original position are two gaping thirty foot holes that appear to have been cut into the ground very recently. Crouched down flat into each hole is the biggest scorpion any of your have ever seen. They are stone grey in color, and as the illusions are dispelled, they rise out of the hole and charge towards the party with astounding speed. They easily rush past the jogging orc, and are almost upon Onrad and Jandar before they can react.

The orc is still jogging down the meadow. It is centered in the meadow and about a hundred and eighty feet from Onrad and Jandar.

Rushing towards Onrad and Jandar, only thirty feet from them are two immense, thirty foot long scorpions, complete with jagged front pinchers and a rising tail dripping venom.

Onrad and Jandar are about fifty feet in front of Nonam, Addenein, Tericus, and Jus. Addenein believes himself well hidden a few feet off to the side in the nearby vegetation framing the valley.

As the scorpions charge, Kieran starts to growl in the back of Jus' mind. Its a protective, instinctual kind of gesture, but it confirms Jus' earlier guess that Kieran can sense the environment around Jus.

Jandar
Tuesday July 20th, 2004 1:17:00 AM

Jandar, not surprised when dealing with an orc, casts 'Repulsion', centered on himself, in a 20' radius.(Will save DC24 to enter area and attack) He makes sure to use his Spell Penetration Feat, in case they have spell resistance. (if they do, Ian, you can roll it, or I will tomorrow)

He stands ready with his warhammer, just in case they make it through his spell, to get an attack of opportunity.

Onrad [AC:50; see below]  d20+33=44 2d6(1+3)+14=18
Tuesday July 20th, 2004 12:22:11 PM

"Very well trained scorpions!" he says as he tumbles over in front of Jandar, attempting to shield him from attack.

He then waits for them to come, activating his Major Cloak of Protection and setting himself to fight defensively.

He does not advance, hoping the separation for the moment will allow the casters to do some damage before close melee begins.

He readies his single attack for this round (cause he moved more than 5 feet) for when they close.

[Ian, I'll roll that attack here assuming that they do close. He swings hitting AC 40 (d20+33=44-4 for defense=40] doing 18hpd (2d6(1+3)+14=18) if it hits.]

"Did they sit in the pit and wait for the illusion to be breached. Or were they trapped in there and Jandar's spell released them?"

On the surface, Onrad is full of confidence. However, underneath, he's worried. These things are tough!

Tuesday July 20th, 2004 6:38:22 PM

The orc, passed by the two gargantuan scorpions, loses his little greenskin mind. He skids to a stop, and actually falls to his knees, whimpering and blubbering, arms over his head. Its the least heroic thing any of the Storms have seen in quite a while.

The two massive scorpions, however, are level set on bloody business. They approach to within forty feet of Onrad and Jandar, and are caught by the enacted repulsion spell. Both are bounced off, and rush past the two Storms towards the others. Again, displaying blinding speed, they stop within twenty of Jus, Nonam, Tericus and Gareth. However, their movement prevents them from attacking. They look as if they might be just about within range of their mighty claws, but not their tails.

As the scorpions rush by and to the Storms, each of you detect the smell of blood coming from each, a pervasive, unholy aura. Their shells are odd, as well, the color of fire-kissed stone and marred by what looks to be some sort of corrosive. These are clearly not from any environment in this local area.

Jus pulls out his bow [Quick Draw feat] and takes a couple of steps backwards. He'll drop the bow if need be to keep the creatures away from Nonam and Tericus, but he'll be firing arrows until then.

Then again, Jus has seen Tericus beat on monsters before -- that priest may be right beside Gareth.

Jus activates his glove [standard action], preparing to send his onslaught of arrows next round.

Keiran, Jus wordlessly thinks, Care to come out and fight? One of the deadly but fun perks of being a hero is that you always have someone or something wanting to kill you.

If Keiran wishes, Jus pulls out the box and lets the dragon out [move action]. Don't be misled, Jus warns Keiran. There are people that want to use you for their own purposes, and will lie to get you to follow them.

"I doubt the Orc did this or the spells to himself," Jus tells his compatriots. "Be prepared for others hidden nearby."

Jandar barely catches the whisper on the wind and realizes that these creatures have, in fact, been summoned. He's unsure of the difficulty of the spell, but he knows that they are not normal scorpions.

He yells out,"Whoever summoned it commanded it to attack Tericus first!"

Jandar casts a Blade Barrier around both of the scorpions, if they aren't too large.(40' radius, 80' diameter). If he can see that they are too large, he'll make sure to get at least the one Gareth hasn't closed with. If they attempt to go through the wall, which he figures they will go after Tericus as commanded, they take 55 points of damage.

(If they attack through the wall, the others get a +4 to AC)

Jus steps back, arms himself, and releases Kieran. The black hatchling lurches out of the opened extradimensional cave and blinks in the sudden light. Even adjusting, Kieran splays his wings out over and behind Jus about ten feet to either side.

Gareth soars over, and spends his action searching around for a caster. He does not see anyone.

(Searching is a full round action)

Nonams hissing bolts of acid spray into both scorpions, but they press on, damaged but undeterred. Onrad manages to push himself to the scorpions new position, and reenter his defensive parrying posture.

The orc actually collapses to a fetal position and continues sobbing. Really. Not quite the height of savagery.

Both scorpions are ready when Onrad and Gareth move in, and take attacks of opportunity as the warriors cross into their combat range (about 20 feet away). Both sling tail stabs at each approaching warrior, but Onrads dodging causes the first to miss. Gareth is, however, squarely stabbed by his.

(Critical not confirmed. Displacement not effective. Hit for 24 points of damage and a DC 24 fortitude save. The effects are not immediate.)

However, the two massive insects remain focused on Tericus, and unleash a furious barrage at the red-haired priest. Tericus is badly mauled.

Tericus is smashed end over end and crumples to the ground.

Onrad absorbs the knowledge that Tericus is badly hurt if not dead. He gulps once as tears burst in his eyes, then his combat training takes over and he pushes it to the back of his mind as best as he can. Jandar will be quicker to help than me and do a better job.

Taking a deep breath, he clears his head.

Staring at the runes, he shrugs. Then he mumbles, "Only one way to find out."

He drops his Fighting Defensively stance and tears into #1, especially directly into the runes on the chest carving into them best as he can.

The party rallies to save Tericus. Jus' arrows bring Tericus back to consciousness just before Kieran performs a rapid leap-flight combination that includes grabbing Tericus up mid-bound and hauling him bodily about thirty feet away from the fight. Then, Jandar guarantees Tericus at least a few moments to recover his bearings with the application of a suddenly appearing wall of stone.

A flight of arrows from Jus and Addenein fall on and around the scorpions, with each archer hitting each scorpion once. Nonam's leaping acid also joins the barrage, once again only partially wounding the scorpions. They must be either very tough or protected by some powerful magic. Odd, that Nonam wouldn't see that protection...

Nonam's magical missiles strike without noticeable effect.)

Seeing Tericus fall, something appearently happens within Onrad. Stepping up to, and weaving between the lethal claws of the massive beast, Onrad strikes again and again, his blade finding the perfect points of vulnerability in the insects stone-plated chitin. Indeed, as Onrads blade strikes home again and again, the shell of the beast changes color to a scorched fire-red as a stoneskin spell visibly falls away. Then, Onrad rolls aside as his final blow end the scorpions life with utterly precise vengeance.

The beast is scarsely hit the ground when it dissipates, in the manner of a summoned beast.

The second scorpion turns wildly, and a disembodied voice sounds its plated head.

"If not the priest, kill that swordman!"

The second scorpion unleashes a furious barrage upon Onrad, but a combination of speed, reflexes, and the cloak's protective magic offer Onrad complete protection.

(The remaining scorpion is AC 32, and is moderately wounded. It is SR 25.)

Onrad exults as the first one falls.

Businesslike, pushing back emotion for the moment, and not looking back at Tericus for fear of what he might see, he slices into the last one.

First attack is rather weak as he hits AC39 [d20+33=39] for a possible 20hpd.[2d6(4+2)+14=20]

Second weak attack hits AC38 [d20+28=38] for a possible 24hpd. [2d6(4+6)+14=24]

Third attack is very weak hitting AC25[d20+23=25] for a possible 24 hpd [2d6(5+5)+14=24]

Fourth attack hits AC24 for a possible 20hpd. [2d6(3+3)+14=20]

His 5th attack due to boots of speed misses as he rolls a 1. [d20+34=35]

Shouting in frustration Onrad prepares for the return onslaught.

--Major Cloak of Protection: 50% chance to miss for 15 rounds a day. (Round 4)
--Boots of Speed activated. +1 dodge bonus to AC for 10 rounds per day. (Round 3)

Thanking his friends and Alemi, Tericus feels a little weird flying, especially being held by a black dragon, but none the less he's able to focus and casts an empowered searing light at the remaining scorpion(touch attack roll hits AC 28, does 38 + 19 pts for the empowered spell for a total of 57 pts, no save)

Imagining the final scorpion is well taken care of, Nonam looks to see if he killed the orc. He then uses his arcane sight and ability to see invisible to scan the area to hunt for whatever could be controlling these creatures.

An ending, leading to a beginning - Dm Ian
Friday July 23rd, 2004 7:58:53 PM

Ever the skilled combatant, Onrad rolls once again into the perfect position and brings down his foe.
Hes not even breathing hard. All the great ones make it look this easy.

Tericus finds himself thumping to a stop with an overenthusiatic rumblepurring black dragon hatchling standing over him. It would be quite the protective gesture without the wall of stone encircling the two.

Looking around, Nonam does not see any invisible beings or even signs of magic as the second scorpion dissipates as a conjured creature might . Very odd.

The orc is very, very dead. The unrecognizeable smear on the meadow is only marked by an acid scorch on the grass, and the scroll it threw a short distance when the orc saw its mortality coming.

Then, all is silent, save for the gentle chirping of small birds far off in the trees surrouding the meadow.

(Its been fun Dming for all of you. Dm Jay has been briefed, and is picking up as a sub Monday for one month. I wish you well. - Ian)

Ian,

Good luck with everything, and take your time. When you come back, be whole and sound! :)

Jandar
Saturday July 24th, 2004 2:00:51 AM

Jandar lets the wall go away and moves to see that Tericus is okay. If he doesn't have many healing spells memorized, Jandar will heal him, else he knows Tericus is quite capable himself. He feels a bit odd, having always been the only one around to cast healing spells. He smiles and genuinely appreciates the fact that he's not the only one who can do so now.

He still isn't sure of the black dragon, and stands nearby until the dragon is back in it's box....just in case.

A few personal requests (ADM Jay B)
Saturday July 24th, 2004 7:09:57 PM

Okay all, my reign starts Monday. I most likely won't be able to post until AFTER 3pm Monday afternoon, Pacific Time. That I believe is 5pm for those great down home boys in Texas. ;)
At any rate, fo that reason, if you like, you may start posting Sunday, or even this evening if you like. I will try to post responses tomorrow evening (Sunday) after work. Let's get rolling ASAP just so there's time to iron things smooth. :)

As a formality thing and to make it easier on a new Woldian DM ;) (I've DMed before other places), would request... no, beg you... to post any strange things you have active on your characters, either in the header on your post or in the text in BOLD print.
(IE; I have my Super Lich Detecting Bifocals on or I am under the affects of exhaustion, I have on these two rings..., SR, DR, Protection from... other spells...etc)

Just a another quick request... If you think I should be aware of something, either in story I may not know, or something I may mess up on(which is likely to happen)....LET ME KNOW! I won't be insulted, hurt or angry at the correction.

Saturday July 24th, 2004 11:46:48 PM

Thanks Ian, best of luck to you!

Jay B, I do not know how to print in bold text. Please give me a quick lesson, I am a quick learner, but have never tried to find out how to do all this cool stuff I see others doing. You can email it to me, or any of you can for that matter. I'm probably the only one who doesn't know how.

Nature walk (ADM Jay B)
Sunday July 25th, 2004 11:53:16 PM

You stand in the meadow, holding a sealed scroll from the battle. The brutal battle! A simple scroll?
The messenger orc, Throg, is smeared like an herb in a stone pestal and mortor. The spear broken into shards.

The meadow ends where the jungle begins.
The jungle canopy is thick and broad, supported by tall ancient columns of timber. Flocks of small brightly colored birds clutter the branches and fly about without a care in the Wold.

A lone bird on a low branch suddenly darts and it's yanked quickly back toward the ground. Following the motion and plumes of floating feathers, you notice a large frog lapping a final feather into its mouth as it makes a tremedous leap into the jungle and is gone.

There is still the stony trail that lies a bit North directly parting the valley.
The mid-morning sun finally breaks over the mountains as colors dance happily on the peaks.

What to do?

Jandar
Monday July 26th, 2004 1:54:19 AM

After making sure Tericus is healed, Jandar looks around to see if anyone else took damage in the fight. He will heal them if they did.

While he's checking on everyone, he asks Nonam,"What's that scroll say?"

Onrad
Monday July 26th, 2004 7:35:28 AM

"Well that's a good sign. The animals are back. It may have been that mage that we thought was "monitoring" us so closely that even the nature of the area was parting allowing us safe passage."

Then he begins to reflect on the last few minutes.

"This may sound weird, but it was good to face enemies again with the Storm Dragons. There's something....pure about what we do when it comes down to the simplicity of battle.

"All these various evil groups and trying to juggle them is not my forte. You'd think it would be with my noble training, but it's not.

"I've always had allies when running the family fortune. A balance of good and evil. Here, it seems to be simply us and evil upon more evil.

"And when we find other good like the elven lady, they speak in riddles and are not true allies.

"Does that make sense?"

Onrad moves to the rear of the party as Gareth usually takes point from the air.

He takes a deep breath of the fresh air and lets himself begin to wind down from the recent 30 seconds of violence.

He deactivates his boots of speed and cloak of displacement saving the remaining rounds of usage for later in the day if needed. Cleaning and checking his sabre he sheathes it.

"Anyone have a cleaning cantrip? I'm a mess."

Addinein
Monday July 26th, 2004 11:45:34 AM

Taking advantage of his undercover work, Addinein decides to sit still for a couple of more seconds/minutes, and listen to the group, as he scans the surrounding Jungle.

If nothing else appears, Addinein will step out of Jungle, and work on retrieving his arrows.

Hearing Onrad's request Addinein responds, "I am of no help in that area."

Tericus  4d8(5+3+8+1)+20=37
Monday July 26th, 2004 12:54:02 PM

seeing the last scorpion killed before his spell goes off, Tericus quickly changes it to a healing spell and erases most of his wounds. "Can you put me down?" Tericus asks the black dragon carrying him. "And thank you for the rescue." he adds quickly

Nonam
Monday July 26th, 2004 3:33:18 PM

Glad nobody complained about him killing the hapless orc, Nonam picks up the scroll. He uses arcane sight and detect magic on it before he will open it up to read it though.

If nothing seems out of the ordinary, he'll open it and read it using comprehend languages or read magic as is necessary.

The note (ADM Jay B)
Monday July 26th, 2004 9:37:54 PM

Healing is performed on the individuals that need it.

Arcane Sight and Detect Magic only reveals very faint and fastly disapating auras of many kinds on the paper, wax and ink.

Only small birds and the occassional frog can be seen or heard. No other animals roam about, in or out of the meadow.

The letter does not explode when you read it, in fact, it's quite a plain piece of parchment sealed with simple black wax.
However, the writing isn't in ink, it seems to be some other dried substance.

The village of the dark elf exiles WILL be destroyed five days hence! There is nothing you can do to stop the future, for I am writing it NOW!

Gareth
Monday July 26th, 2004 9:44:32 PM

The warrior continues to scan for the mage - just on the off chance he might get lucky... After which he releases his invisibility and rejoins the others.

Jandar  d20=5
Tuesday July 27th, 2004 12:47:26 AM

Jandar heals Gareth to make it a moot point. As Nonam reads the contents of the scroll, Jandar shrugs his shoulders and says,"Maybe they'll at least get worn down from the fight and we will arrive in time to finish the job."

Gareth
Tuesday July 27th, 2004 6:38:12 AM

The warrior mutters a bit about how he didn't get to paste the orc - and makes sure Nonam hears him. "Bunch of rodents... vermin.".

"So much for surprising them.. I'd say now would be a good time to call the drow. We'd better see if they know anything that could help us - and vice versa.".

Tericus
Tuesday July 27th, 2004 10:14:08 AM

"Jus, can you get your dragon to put me down?" Tericus asks Jus while everyone looks at the scroll

Nonam
Tuesday July 27th, 2004 1:15:40 PM

Nonam looks at the black dragon and asks it cautiously in draconic, "So how are you today? We haven't been properly introduced. I am Nonam Firstorlast. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." The mage bows as respectfully as he can manage while standing in cream d'orc.

Jandar
Wednesday July 28th, 2004 12:52:01 AM

"Are we ready to do a 'Sending', then?"

Gareth
Wednesday July 28th, 2004 6:06:20 AM

"Unless someone has a different idea. I'm sure 'M' knows we are coming.".

Under the Rainbow (ADM Jay B)
Wednesday July 28th, 2004 7:11:44 AM

(Sorry about no Tuesday post, worked an odd shift.)

Kieran yawns and puts down the squirming Tericus.

Nonam introduces himself to the dragon, but it simply looks at Nonam, curls up at Jus' feet and falls asleep.

It nags at a few of you that this 'M' knows your coming, but strangely, it doesn't surprise you. Trouble often finds you... or visa versa.

The serine moment is broken temperarily when a burst of colorful birds errupt from the jungle as a chill wind blows toward you. The sun glints off the birds and almost reflects the colors like a prism.

Jandar suggests a 'Sending'.

Gareth's quick wit states the obvious about 'M', but no one points out the fact.

The sun rises slowly over you, soon it will be the tenth hour. It is already growing warm as the dew is evaporating, creating a light mist at your feet.

Tericus
Wednesday July 28th, 2004 9:29:54 AM

dusting himself off, Tericus says "Go ahead and send the sending."

Nonam
Wednesday July 28th, 2004 2:28:41 PM

"I suggest that we rip Morlas a new one when we find him. I'm tired of his messages and underlings. He hasn't the courage to meet us himself after our last meeting. In the meantime, yes, do the sending, and warn Faifasal that Morlas is coming. Chances are the drow already know it. We're always the last to find everything out."

Addinein
Wednesday July 28th, 2004 7:02:35 PM

"Be sure to let Faifasal know that his house has been infiltrated by those faithful to M. We're not sure who, but we do know that there are a couple, directing the house."

Coming out of the underbrush Addinein adds, "Did no one recognize anything more about the summoning? There are those from the Underdark that would be capable. But I'm not sure they would want to travel along."

Continuing to be caution, Addinein does his best to look for any tell-tale signs in the area that the party now occupies.

Jandar
Thursday July 29th, 2004 1:07:46 AM

Jandar moves off a bit to an area where he can concentrate, mumbling about never having cast this particular spell, but that Domi had given it to him this day, so it would work. He prepares himself mentally, then begins his prayer for the spell.

After he's ready, he speaks his spell to Fai'fasal, picturing the drow in his mind, remembering the scene played out to the group back in the temple of the silver dragon," Received word that Morlas is to attack your people within five days. Storm Dragons making our way to help you. We'll be there soon. Jandar."

After completing the spell, Jandar goes back to the party and says,"It is done. Does anyone remember or can anyone tell, how far we have to go and how many days it will take? I would suggest we hurry, as we will probably have some more delays, and time is not something we have a lot of, nor do the drow."

Gareth
Thursday July 29th, 2004 6:57:33 AM

The warrior eyes the dragon until it falls asleep at Jus' feet. "Time to go gents...". The warrior leads out when everyone is ready.

Message sent? (ADM Jay B)
Friday July 30th, 2004 12:55:26 AM

Recalling previous knowledge, travel time from here to where the drow village is would be 3 and a half days as the crow flies, perhaps 4 and a half by foot.
It is now about 10:15 in the morning, the mist burns off slowly and the birds grow in number.

Jandar sends his message. As the message is sent, the cleric feels a resistance just before it reaches the drow side, but is able to push through. Whether the full message got through intact is another issue. When he hit the resistance on the other side, it felt as if the message had been ripped apart.

The dragon dozes off. [Leave him or help him into the 'cave'?]

You begin your journey.
Upon reaching the mouth of the pass, you feel good that you will make it in time to help the drow encampment.

What lies ahead for the Storms? An easy road? More lackies of Morlas? Unhappy drow?
We will see.

[Tell a marching order please. Make Spot, Listen and Survival rolls.]
Terrain is getting progressively rocky and hazardous. The cliffs lining the ravine seem unstable. Loose stones clatter to the ground without warning. The canopy closes in over the chasm. Trees meet in the middle with a tangled hand-shake.
The cliffs range from 30 feet in height to 100 feet, and close to 15 feet at the narrowest points. Light streams through the branches above like confetti.

Jandar  d20+17=28 d20=12 d20=18 d20+17=30
Friday July 30th, 2004 1:18:19 AM

Brother Jandar takes in all that he can(Spot28,Listen12, Survival 18) without losing his concentration on the rough terrain. He's not real happy that his message may not have taken, but merely shrugs his shoulders, as it's all he can do. He contemplates a bit on how it could have been disrupted, as their is no Spell Resistance nor save against such a spell.

He will march in front of Onrad, who said he'd take up the rear, but makes sure there is some distance between himself and Tericus, just in case the lich tries to take them both out with a landslide or some other way.

When that thought crosses his mind, he looks up and quickly scans the area above and ahead of the party for any movement or any thing that might be out of place(second spot 30 for area above the party).

(Just a bit of a rewording. When I said your 'Sending' had been ripped apart, perhaps I should have used the word 'garbled'.)

Gareth
Friday July 30th, 2004 6:24:18 AM

As the going gets more difficult the warrior takes to the air. No need to make it harder than it has to be... He tries to stay down in the trees and such so as to not be as easy a target for snipers. He darts up from time to time to see what's ciming up.

"If you feel we need to rush, then by all means lets get there as fast as possible. Otherwise lets continue to map out the surrounding area for future use. As slow as walking is, it's the only way to be sure."

Inwardly Addinein frets about a house that may or may not be under control of the matriarchs. Having not said anything to the others Addinein asks, " Has there been any real sign of a Matriarch with this house? From what we've been told about the house being infiltrated,Faifasal may be misguided.

Trailblazing (ADM Jay B)
Monday August 2nd, 2004 6:00:23 PM

Jandar notices the increasing incline to the path, as well as peering eyes from the canopy above.

Healing is performed on the necessary folks.

Teleportation is discussed, as are several other forms of transport. Addinein points out that if they were to map the area for future reference, transport by magical means would not yield accurate mapping results.

Curiousity about an exterior influence within a Drow House weighs on Addinein's mind.

You continue down the stoney trail for hours, unless you make any detours (the trail winds through the ravine with no branches), you will reach a large broad shelf in the ravine wall that might make a good cover for camp at about 7pm.
(Make Spellcraft a check)
Evening approaches and light in the ravine has already left. It grows quite dark, even now.
[Barring any spell casting or teleporting, you arrive at a good camp sight. Set watches please.]

Jus lets Keiran out of his cave when they stop. Given the chance, Jus scratches him behind his already massive ears and privately thanks him for protecting Tericus. That was massively impressive, Keiran.

"What about teleporting to Faifasal to let them know? Although I expect the attack is from the inside as one of you mentioned earlier," Jus tells the others.

"Oh, I can teleport, I just can't take everyone," Jus adds.

Wondering if Keiran will take the opportunity to wander, Jus volunteers to stay up during first watch.

Knowing there was a voice in that last battle, one that wasn't seen, Jus begins searching the area for noises and tracks other than the party's.

Will we end up ten feet under ground, or hit it just right. Oh and there's someone or something watching us over the canopy...just don't everyone turn and look."

If the group doesn't teleport, Jandar says he'll take last watch, if there aren't any objections.

Addinein will volunteer to take any of the darkest watches in order to use his eyesight to an advantage. While on watch, Addinein will cotninue to let his brain idle on the idea of the other house. He will also find a cozy place to watch camp, that is in shadows. (HS=29 (crit) MS 27)

Signs of Life (ADM Jay B)  d4=1
Wednesday August 4th, 2004 6:28:32 AM

(OOC: Sorry for not posting Tuesday, I was waiting for others to post before doing so.)

As the spell casters examine the rock and overhang they've set camp under(or near), they realize it has been 'morphed' with earth shaping magics and by someone with engineering knowledge (likely dwarven in nature, perhaps drow). The stone awning is sloped to allow the water to run off and projects almost 15 feet out from the wall. Smoke has stained the ceiling and a firepit is also formed with the same sort of magics. (Make Search and Spot checks and tell me what languages you can read, please.)

With watches set, everyone in turn beds down.

Sometime in the middle of first watch those peering eyes the group noticed earlier seem to disappear. The sounds of night go silent and there is an eerie, uneasy feeling in the air.

A sudden wind kicks up down the ravine, dust, loose branches from the canopy and debris are strewn about. The canopy creaks and moans as the trees are battered. Apparently the wind is greater above the trees.
(Anyone asleep on first watch, make a Fort save DC 18 to remain asleep [as there wasn't a full watch detailed, I'll take your word ;)]. Anything unattended such as scrolls, tarps or blankets maybe blown away, Dex check DC 18. If there is a fire set, it goes out.)

The winds die after a very long minute and the sounds of night slowly return. The loud croking of perhaps those large frogs can be heard in the distance.
The 'eyes' above you do not return.

The night is otherwise uneventful.

[OOC: Please detail your Teleporting if that is what you decide. Also post active spells and effects you may have as well.]

Once everyone is ready, he stands in the shadow of the overhang and casts shadow walk.

[shadow walk sets the pace at 50 miles per hour, and will safely get us near our destination]

Wednesday August 4th, 2004 7:19:13 PM

Jandar snores through the wind as if he's been knocked out by a storm giant. Luckily, he is able to take his watch and keep all of his posessions intact. He re-lights the fire after the wind dies down and makes sure breakfast is ready when the others wake.

He reaches in to touch Nonam when he makes his announcement, rather excited about travelling like this. Even with Joe Hand, he'd never seen this particular spell.

Jus  d20+6=7 d20+12=29 d20+12=20 d20+12=28
Wednesday August 4th, 2004 7:51:02 PM

"Fine place to stop," Jus says examining the rocks [Search = nat1 (again!); Spot=29; Languages: Common, Eleven]. "It looks like this was made just for this purpose. Reminds me of rest camps for long mountain travels."

Jus, one of those on first watch, is able to withstand the winds. Impressively powerful, whatever caused those, but it didn't seem to affect much. Jus looks in the direction of the wind source, looking for channels or anything that may be focusing the winds in this direction. [Spot=20; Listen=28]

"Shadow walking?" Jus starts. "If we see something interesting, can we stop? Hang on a quill!"

Jus quickly asks Keiran if he wants in or out of his portable home while they travel -- the experience of Shadow Walk may be fun for him (Just make sure you don't wander away from us; it's easy to get lost.). When Keiran is where he wishes to be, Jus tells the others he is ready.

Morning dawns (ADM Jay B)
Thursday August 5th, 2004 4:19:14 AM

Morning comes on quickly as several wake up with a thin layer of dust and a dune of debris beside you. The dust seems to have gotten everywhere. Twigs in your hair. But otherwise seemingly none the worse off.
Colorful birds dodge in and out of the branches. Tiny primates with large eyes climb about to find holes to sleep.

Your experience actually tells you this was likely nothing more than a storm blowing in above the trees gathering speed as it approached the mountains. Being in the ravine likely prevented damage.
No items are missing, that you notice.

In the soot on the stone awning wall, several who understand old undercommon in a drow elf dialect read a few simple words, whether they mean anything, is another story.
It reads as follows...

The storm is coming.
Grax was here!

This could mean much, or absolutely nothing. Simple graffiti? It's rather old and extremely faded.

Nonam casts shadow walk. (Assuming the drow encampment is the 'target destination'? Shadow Walking isn't an exact science realize! ;))

Jus removes the black hatchling from its cave. He unfolds his wings and stretchs. Are we going to play now!?

The morning moves on, as it reaches 930, breastfast or rations are finished and camp is packed. Dust is flipped off the blankets and brush out of cracks and travel commenses.

Gareth hears his sword, Max, complain briefly. 'Seems there is a bit of dust in the sheathe here. You suppose you could clean this grit off me Gareth?'

Shadow Walking begins. [Next post will detail your travels. Role play if you like.
Jus, please state 'exactly' what Keiran does as he travels. Oh, btw, is he Willingly traveling with you in this manner? If not, please make a Will save vs Nonam's DC's.]

Gareth
Thursday August 5th, 2004 6:02:52 AM

At Max's behest he unsheaths his ally and cleans him and his scabbard. "It is my pleasure to keep you in fine condition, my friend. Thanks for reminding me.". Once complete he dusts off everthing else and gets ready for Nonam's trip plans.

Tericus
Thursday August 5th, 2004 9:35:41 AM

"Lets go." Tericus says to Nonan as he stands with the others.

Nonam
Thursday August 5th, 2004 12:22:21 PM

Before casting, Nonam warns Jus, "Don't wander off again." Then he looks to everyone else, "At the very least, this should put us within a mile or two of our destination. Quite possibly closer. Ready?"

When everyone is gathered around, he casts.

Addinein
Thursday August 5th, 2004 12:30:30 PM

Eyeing the dragon, Addinein wonders if he'll accopany the group, or become a problem. Keeping his tongue to himself, Addinein adjust his gear for traveling.

Jus
Thursday August 5th, 2004 9:43:48 PM

Jus goes with the others if Keiran is willing. Otherwise, he'll figure out another way to get there. But he'll try and convince Keiran to go, and will try his best not to blink on the trip so he can see anything interesting on the Shadow Walk.

Jandar
Friday August 6th, 2004 2:04:47 AM

Jandar watches with eyes wide open, so he doesn't miss a thing in this new experience.

ADM Jay B
Friday August 6th, 2004 6:08:15 AM

OOC: There will be a delay in Fridays post. I have a long day and won't be back until later in the evening. So the post will be up early Saturday morning. I've already posted for my other games and will be spending a good length on the Dragons this weekend. ;)

Feel free to post role play and I will move along the module as quick as I can this weekend.

Let me know if you have any concerns so far. Thanks.

Two days to go (ADM Jay B)
Saturday August 7th, 2004 7:23:59 AM

Gareth unsheathes his sword and brushes off Max until there's not a speck on him. "Friend Gareth, I thank you most kindly."

Some intimidating glances are traded among the party, but not much is said.

A moment later the group is on their way.
Shadow curls and waves over you all almost like a linen sheet hanging on a line as you pass into the boundary.
The scenes outside the shadow are impossible to make out, therefore contributing to the dullness of the trip and Keiran's boredom.
The journey lasts a mere 6 and a half or 7 hours, it's not easy to know exactly how long you were in the Shadow Realm because sometime during your travels, the sun broke its xenith and passed over the ravine. (This makes it between 4 and 5pm, roughly.)

Having a general idea in location and 'jumping off point', Nonam feels it may be time to jaunt out and stop the trip. The ride was smooth, but the stop isn't.
You all are shunted from a dark stone hollow [Those with darkvision see a lava bubble like structure with no exit] and then are bounced into what looks to be the same ravine, however, the canopy (same types of trees) is thinner.
[None of you take any sort of real damage, just get tussled about slightly.]

The ravine breaks just up ahead about 300 yards into a large box canyon at the base of the range of mountains you saw yesterday. It is obvious that your higher in elevation now. The temperature has dropped about 20 degrees cooler, but its still a comfortable 50 with no real breeze.

The Shadow Walk was, more or less, a success, though Nonam may feel it could have gone much smoother. It cut off two days on foot at least.
You may indeed be a mile from the encampment as predicted. The thin line of white smoke rising in the distance might be an indicator.

Keiran stays on Jus' heals doesn't stray.

"Gareth, what has just happened? Did I just past through stone. That was very unpleasant." States the sword. This might well be the feeling of most of the party.

Exiting the ravine, everyone notices that Onrad isn't directly behind them.
He's actually seen exiting a cave off to the right. Apparently he was shunted slightly the opposite direction.
(Jerry, for future reference, this cave is no more than a narrow and shallow abandoned quarry, nothing more.)

[Your play. Feel free to post this weekend, we'll keep this moving. :)]

Gareth
Saturday August 7th, 2004 8:45:19 AM

The warrior consoles Max a bit and turns his attention to making sure everyone made it in one piece. Once confirmed - and they collect Onrad - he decides it's time to leave. "I'd say we need to make their camp by nightfall..."

Tericus
Sunday August 8th, 2004 2:37:34 PM

"Well, lets go then." Tericus says to Gareth as he casts a quick spell(detect evil)

Addinein
Sunday August 8th, 2004 5:46:17 PM

Having not travelled in this form. Addinein is a little put out by the roughness in which the party is treated. He notes mentally that he should ask whether that happens normally, or not.

"Are we going to approach unannounced?"

Jandar
Monday August 9th, 2004 1:00:08 AM

Jandar shakes his head to clear the cobwebs, brushes himself off and says,"Well, it was neat for a few minutes. Not as much aof a view as I would have thought. But, it got us here, and that's the goal I suppose.

I would imagine that they will know we're coming long before we get there. In fact, we've probably already been seen, if I know drow correctly. They probably have eyes everywhere here. Of course, the liches probably have scouted this area well and will know we're here very shortly, if not already. They do seem to know where we are all the time.

So, do we go in, or do we wait?"

Nonam
Monday August 9th, 2004 12:53:35 PM

Nonam looks about upon landing and frowns. "That should have taken us much farther than this. As long as that spell lasts, we could have rested up in the shadow plane and moved on." He shakes his head, "It's never worked that poorly before. The jungle must be effecting my spells again. 2 hours of the shadow walk spell should have taken us this far, much less 6 or 7. I'll teleport us in the morning. I am NOT walking again."

He eats a cracker or two and goes to sleep and lets other people worry about the watch. He mumbles something about taking the last watch if someone wakes him up.

[No hard feelings, but... Average character marching speed (30 ft base) is 3 miles per hour, or 24 miles in a normal 8 hours. Shadow Walk confers a 50 mile per hour movement rate, or 400 miles in 8 hours.
4 days of normal marching should get you just under 100 miles. That's 2 hours of a shadow walk spell, much less a full day of it. That's quite a bit more effective than simply moving you at double a normal walk rate. :) ]

No hard feelings taken. :) However, the 'shunting effect' shunted you (which I didn't roll for. d10+1000ft) about a mile off course. As for your travel time, how do you tell time in the shadow? There is no sun.
Plus, you've never been there, so it's nearly impossible to judge distance accurately.
Even experienced characters make mistakes (call this role play effect).
No problem, you have made it with two days to spare, plus a few hours.

Nonam
Monday August 9th, 2004 1:01:54 PM

After a short huff, Nonam gets back up and studies the device that he and Gareth took off the drow in the treant clearing. Perhaps it would help teleport the group there. His first study of the device caused him to think it was a teleportation device to the Drow lair, but whether it would teleport the whole group was another matter. At least it would send him, he could scout the location and come back for the rest of the group.

Making sure his teleportation ring is on his finger, Nonam traces the sigil on the rod.

Jus
Monday August 9th, 2004 6:58:49 PM

"Well we certainly can't stop now. We need to keep pushing since we know the drow will be attacked soon," Jus presses the others.

"I'll go ahead, and take Keiran if he's willing. I can cast a few Teleports and get us there, but I have little doubt that they won't work. So I'm going by Phantom Steed myself unless you others have any better suggestion."

Jus waits a moment for replies, looking around at the area he is now in, memorizing the details. If he hears no better ideas, Jus then casts Phantom Steed and takes off at 240'/round.

[Jus leaves Keiran's portable home behind if Keiran doesn't want to go with Jus.]

Onrad
Monday August 9th, 2004 9:07:07 PM

"This is your decision Nonam. We'll travel as you think best. You're the master of this domain....you and Jus."

Onrad uses the moment to take a good look around.

"However, I do say push on. My opinion."

"....And why is it I always get the nasty exit after travelling magically? Ever since that non-grand entrance where I fell down the rickety stairs after teleporting using my birthday party wish to find myself sprawled at Nonam's feet."

::Onrad fake shivers::

"Still have nightmares of looking up and seeing Nonam for the first time."

He deadpans it totally and does not crack a smile.

Smoke and mirrors (ADM Jay B)
Tuesday August 10th, 2004 5:05:28 AM

The party is a simple mile away from the encampment. Brush and patches of trees scattered about. Sun beeming over the peeks.

The the party is suddenly surrounded with thick smoke, haze and sparkles. There are close to 40 drow males surrounding the Storms, bows out and knocked. Several hover above the party. Several stand behind the archers, with no apparent weapons.
(Nonam, these drow weren't invisible, they were hidden or under some other effect. FYI. :))

"Who be you in our valley. Speak now or die sooner!" The tongue is Common, the speaker unknown and foreign to the language.

Gareth hears a muffled voice. "Oh dear. Rare accent! Ancient elven... with a touch of undercommon... if I'm not mistaken." Max assumes, outloud.

One drow steps forward. "Who speaks?!"

Gareth
Tuesday August 10th, 2004 5:48:25 AM

The warrior steps up to the guard and makes sure his blue knife is prominately displayed. We are the Storm Dragons, Blue Knives and friends of the drow. We have come to see Fais'fal. We have news. Please inform him we are here.".

Tericus
Tuesday August 10th, 2004 9:49:53 AM

OOC, would my detect evil spell detected the drow?

Just in case the drow cannot understand what Gareth say, Tericus repeats what he said in the drow language, then again in underdark common.

Nonam
Tuesday August 10th, 2004 11:55:54 AM

Since he spoke up first, Nonam lets Gareth do the talking while he examines house insignias to see if this is indeed Faifasals' clan.

Addinein
Tuesday August 10th, 2004 4:09:03 PM

Since all the languages have been covered by other party members. Addinein holds his tongue and waits to see how the other drow conduct themselves.

Onrad
Tuesday August 10th, 2004 5:58:38 PM

Onrad, gladly seeing that Gareth is taking the lead, simply smiles and bows in a friendly fashion.

"Bow Nonam," Onrad whispers. "It's polite and friendly."

Onrad bows again, his grin growing.

He thinks to himself, ::All males....interesting::

Jandar  d20+17=26
Tuesday August 10th, 2004 6:58:08 PM

Jandar remains silent, simply raising an eyebrow at the drawn weapons. He figured they'd been detected, so he's not surprised.

While the others are talking, he looks at the figures behind the males and tries to discern the females he saw hidden in their first encounter with these, when they first met Fais'fal.(spot 26)

Jus  d20=9
Tuesday August 10th, 2004 8:29:10 PM

Needless to say, Jus doesn't cast his spells since the Drow have come to them. Hopefully, it is soon enough, but Jus has a very funny feeling about this...

Not too wise in such things, Jus chimes in with a happy "Hello, everyone!" [wisdom roll failed]

Wondering what's become of Keiran, Jus hopes the Drow don't try and make him tonight's dinner.

Onrad
Wednesday August 11th, 2004 8:18:51 AM

Onrad wonders where Kieran might have gotten himself to. He hopes the drow find him and eats him for supper.

Smoke and Mirrors, Part 2
Wednesday August 11th, 2004 11:37:39 PM

[OOC: Please indicate which spells are active. I forget easily.]

There is a hush, as several drow lean in and start muttering among themselves. They seem to be looking at Gareth intently.
'Gareth, what's happening out there?' Asks Max.

One drow seems specifically intent on the dragon the party is traveling with.

Keiran thinks to Jus, 'Can I eat them now?' As the dragon licks his lips.

Jus' chipper greeting draws the attention of a half dozen of the archers, who put a bead on Jus' head. One archer is quite close.

Jandar notices no females and several Fai'fasal insignias. There is an insignia on some on the archers.

Tericus' detect evil is indeed working, however, there is something strange about all the drow. You sense no evil intent or alignments near you. (What is your range on your detect?)

Nonam realizes there are indications that the number of drow surrounding them is significantly lower than first estimated. In fact, it seems that at least half the drow are being generated by some illusionary means. The illusions are being generated by the unarmed drow. About 25 of the bowmen are hollow (meaning illusion) and one archer seem to be generating a mirror image.
There are no invisible drow about (see invisible). Arcane sight indicates highest the level spell is 'major image'.
Fai'fasal's insignia can be seen on the unarmed drow.

There are the five unarmed drow (casters) and 5 archers, one archer has 5 images surrounding him.
Ten drow total.

[Your play.]

Tericus(detect evil)
Thursday August 12th, 2004 7:13:56 AM

"Something isnt right here." Tericus mutters to himself as he concentrates on his spell(range of 60 ft)

Nonam (arcane sight, comprehend languages, see invisible, dark vision, evasion, SR19...)
Thursday August 12th, 2004 11:43:56 AM

Seeing that Gareth's answers didn't provoke any sort of reaction one way or the other, Nonam says in undercommon, "We came to help destroy that lich Morlas, you know, but if you don't want the help, we'd be happy to leave."

He notices the drow looking at Keiran and adds, "The dragon is Lathiese's son. Fai'fasal said he was an ally of yours, yes? Now either shoot us or take us to where we can be of some use."

Jandar  d20+17=37
Thursday August 12th, 2004 2:18:42 PM

Jandar stays quite, with a spell ready, in case arrows fly. Otherwise, he simply continues to look around.(spot nat 20, total 37)

Addinein
Thursday August 12th, 2004 6:23:49 PM

Not sure what maybe happening here, Addinein decides to keep to himself. He'll spend the time observing as best he can.

Noticing the lack of femails, Addinein worrys a little about what motivates this bunch of males.

Jus
Thursday August 12th, 2004 8:28:07 PM

Not yet, Keiran, Jus thinks to the dragon. These are likely allies, but they need to make sure we don't come to kill them instead.

Jus gives a peculiar look to the archer close by pointing an arrow towards his head. Something that silently says "Are you stupid, or what?" Arrows are great, but at point-blank range, the archer is way too easy to hit.

Think carefully about everything you hear from this point onward, Keiran, Jus warns the dragon. Many in the drow will lie to you and say whatever is needed, if it would convince you to do their will. Most would care little if any of us died, including you, as long as they get what they want.

Gareth
Thursday August 12th, 2004 10:04:49 PM

The warrior waits for the drow to reply. "As our mage stated, Fai'fasal will be interested to see us. Please inform him.".

Descriptions escape me... (ADM Jay B)
Friday August 13th, 2004 12:47:09 AM

[OOC: I just realized I don't have Onrad's PC sheet. Jerry, please re-send it.]

The drow stand down, several drow disappear (including the drow aiming at Jus' head), and the illusions fade quickly.

One of the casters in the rear row steps forward and signals for the group to follow. Silently they move toward camp, traveling in and out of the shadows of the mountains, squinting in the light.

There are no signs of evil that Tericus can feel, though, such signs can be covered up.

The makeshift village rises on the horizon. It's profile leans against the stone surface of the box-canyon. As you approach, drow can be seen peering out from patches of trees and 40 foot tall posts with single planks as perchs. Scouts shift in and out of the shadows like some sort of awkward drow dance.
None of the structures are defined as larger or more important. None are astentatious or ornate on the outside.
You cross what seems to be a barrier of sorts, and the group of drow breaks up, except the one leading you.
You weave in and out of the buildings and stop.

The drow leading, directs you to a rather plain mud and cloth structure that resembles a bee hive. He points to the cloth covering the entrance, bows, and leaves.

(OOC: Excuse the village appearance, I wasn't clear on its appearance. So, if you know of certain things I may miss, let me know please!! Yes, I went through the archives.)

Nonam
Friday August 13th, 2004 7:15:21 PM

Nonam looks around and is a bit unimpressed, "I was unaware that Morlas had already forced you out of your subterranean homes. How long has he been down there?"

[We've never been to this particular drow family's village/city/homes/etc, so whatever you have to say is fine. We're here to help them reclaim their underground city, but beyond that we've never discussed their living arrangments.]

Gareth
Friday August 13th, 2004 9:14:21 PM

The warrior calms down Max and steps in behind the drow. He doesn't respond to the living arrangements but stoicly waits for the drow warrior they are here to meet.
