Final gathering (DM MikeK) Friday July 30th, 2004 11:10:51 AM
The innkeeper shrugs, and leads Florin through the inn. The paladin has free reign, and the innkeeper even opens the door to the one occupied room. The couple inside aren't real happy about it, but as neither is clothed, let alone armed, there isn't much they can do about Florin's searching the room.
"They hung out with themselves," the innkeeper replies to the paladin's question.
After a fruitless search, Florin finds himself outside the Black Thorn with just under an hour left till the funeral. "I need your guidance," he whispers to Domi. Immediately the paladin recalls the monk in his dream. "Courage, Florin Jandeth," the man had said. And then he remembers Father Dremond..."Go back to the children". Florin can hear both statements in his mind as if they were being uttered for the first time.
And then Ajax is there. The horse nuzzles Florin in greeting. It is saddled, but wears no bridle. When Florin gets on, Ajax carries him to the apartments and the funeral. The horse will not be swayed from its path.
Syr takes all this in, and realizes he's late. The monk sprints up to the apartments, arriving at the same time Florin does. He races past his friends and quickly changes into something appropriate.
The others wait.
Gordo and the orphans arrive, walking up the street with Happy. All are clean, and dressed as well as they are able.
Lady Firiona's coach arrives shortly thereafter, and she emerges to silently hug Gordo, Tionel, and Syr.
And others come. Shopkeepers and families, nobles and merchants, even some members of the City Guard. In all, over 100 people gather to bid farewell. The mood is quiet and somber.
From the direction of the ramp, a drum sounds a slow cadence. BOOM . . . . . BOOM . . . . . BOOM . . . . .
The funeral procession is approaching.
Xenia Friday July 30th, 2004 8:26:59 PM
Xenia smiles up at Wynn, and gives his arm a squeeze. "You'll be wonderful," she says, and the look in her eyes means every word.
She glances up and down Rogue's Alley, a crease of worry between her copper brows. Then she spots a horse. And it is Florin. Syr runs along side. Xenia tugs Wynn's arm with joy and relief.
"I'm worried about Florin," she tells the bard. "He ... well, he seems different. I hope he didn't hit his head in that fall off the forest temple."
The children arrive with Gordo and Happy. Xenia spots little Kyria, her tousled blonde head in amongst the older children. Her face is so quiet and serious. How many years older than it need be?
Arm linked with Wynn's, Xenia waits in solemn silence as the drum beats the beginning of an end.
Angus d20+7=24 Friday July 30th, 2004 11:02:11 PM
Angus nods to Gordo as the group approaches and lends his flute to the drums (perform 24). Those around Angus see tears sliding down his face.
Angus will play for 30 seconds after the drums stop as he can not help going for alittle attention.
Florin Jadenth d20+2=3 Saturday July 31st, 2004 5:55:00 PM
Florin stays in his armor and keeps his weapons and such on as he swings out of the saddle and pats his horse on the neck, "Go back home for now Ajax but be ready for I may need you soon. Thank you for the help and guidance friend."
Florin quickly follows after Syr, trying to keep up before going to join the others. Once he cetches Syr he speaks to the man, "You might not want to hear from me Syr but I am sorry for the party idea. I was only wanting to lighten everyones mood after the funeral is over. I canceled the party though as it was poor judgement and a poor time to even bring it up on my part. I am sorry for that....I been trying to deal with all this my own way and am completely lost really...I..can't just let it go...they have to pay and I'm risking alot by letting my anger and guilt eat at me...I'm risking the life I have known...and my status as a paladin...this is all I have known since I betrayed my father's wishes and broke from my family...I in a sense have no family other then my sister who I do get along with...either way though if I wouldn't of stood up and let those two anvil hearts live then the orphanage would still probably be standing...it is my fault no matter who looks at it or who says I'm not to blame."
Florin turns and walks away from Syr slowly now, calling over his shoulder, "When I pleased to Domi for help back on the trash level earlier Ajax showedup and brought me here quickly....I think we are going about this wrong and the anvil heart will come to us, I don't think this is over for them either by a long shot and I think something might happen at the funeral. Think what you will of me my friend but be prepared for I think the anvil will show themselves soon enough. I think thats what Domi is trying to tell me."
Florin leaves Syr quickly now, still utterly lost in his confusion and his own sense of guilt over this matter. Florin stands near the back of the ceremony, lost in his thoughts while watching the crowd and feeling out of place as he feels so deeply that this is all his fault. (Nat:1 on spot) Florin is thankful that no one he knows other then the group is here and that none will ask him to speak also for he would no doubt just admit his guilt in bidding fairwell to such a noble lady and the couple kids who lost their lives.
Lang d20+6=22 Sunday August 1st, 2004 9:50:35 AM
Lang in his best woodsmen attire, with Sunshine at his side, watches the mournful approach of the of the children and listens to the drum and flute music lost in his thoughts.
Lang does keep watch on the surroundings and his new friends to see how each reacts to the situation (spot 22).
Lang has not know these people well, but he feels that their hearts are in the right place.
Lang remains quite but watchful through the ceremony.
Wynn Brightsong d20+8=21 Sunday August 1st, 2004 8:17:20 PM
Wynn watches the ceremonies, head bowed, and waits to be called upon for his part. When he hears his name called he gives Xenia's hand a gentle squeeze and moves to the stage.
"My name is Wynn" he starts, "Wynn Brightsong. I am new to this city and to the hardships of life in such a place. I was never graced to know Mama Faust or any of the children that perished, but my friends and colleagues are themselves too heartbroken to speak and have asked me to say a few words in their stead."
Wynn swallows hard as he looks over the gathered crowd and forces himself to continue. "It's a life of hard times that these young ones must endure, and those that perished will no doubt find an easier way. As difficult as it is to see any good in these events, I am reminded that the orphanage has found a new benefactor in Lady Firiona". Wynn bows in deference to the noble lady before continuing. "A new orphanage is being constructed and new doors opened for all the children. Sometimes dark times must fall before light can shine through..."
Wynn takes a single deep breath and begins to sing a folk song popular among the common folk of his home in Cinnamon Valley [Perform=21]
Let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears, While we all sup sorrow with the poor; There's a song that will linger forever in our ears; Oh Hard times come again no more.
Tis the song, the sigh of the weary, Hard Times, hard times, come again no more Many days you have lingered around my cabin door; Oh hard times come again no more.
While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay, There are frail forms fainting at the door; Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say Oh hard times come again no more.
There's a pale drooping maiden who toils her life away, With a worn heart whose better days are o'er: Though her voice would be merry, 'tis sighing all the day, Oh hard times come again no more.
Tis a sigh that is wafted across the troubled wave, Tis a wail that is heard upon the shore Tis a dirge that is murmured around the lowly grave Oh hard times come again no more.
Tis the song, the sigh of the weary, Hard Times, hard times, come again no more Many days you have lingered around my cabin door; Oh hard times come again no more.
When Wynn has finished he leaves the stage to the next presenter and resumes his place next to Xenia.
Syr Monday August 2nd, 2004 5:56:57 AM
Syr nods a short greeting to Florin when he sees him and changes clothes while the paladin speaks. He puts an arm around Florin, "No, it is you who must forgive me for my outburst, It's just so many things seemed to be coming together at once in my head and I let it all out on you."
Taking a deep breath, "As for it being your fault, I will be the first admit that I initially felt that way. However, look at the overall picture. You followed your heart and the training that was given you from Domi. That training leads you to assume the best in people. Don't get down on yourself for having the courage to do the right thing. Looking back, my bloodthirsty self is ashamed of how I reacted during that time." Pausing for a breath he looks into Florin's eyes, "You were the conscience for the whole group. Be proud of that."
With that, he also goes downstairs to join the others. As the coach arrives, returning Lady Fiorana's hug is easy compared to what is to come. Throughout it all, he stands at her side.
Stoic until Wynn takes the stage, the elf's eyes begin to glaze over and glisten with tears. As the performance concludes, tears stream down his face but no sound escapes his throat and he mouths a 'Thank you' to the man.
Opening (DM MikeK) Monday August 2nd, 2004 9:25:27 AM
The crowd falls silent at the approaching drum. The procession appears, led by a lone dwarf who methodically beats on a large drum. Both drum and dwarf are dressed in black, with the symbol of Domi painted in gold upon the drum head. Behind the drummer, a black horse leads an enameled black wagon. Six figures walk beside the wagon, three on each side, alternately wearing the symbols of Domi and Gargul. Behind the escorts walk Father Dremmond, of the Temple of Domi, and a priest of Gargul.
In silence, but for the beating of the drum, the wagon and its escorts walk slowly to the front of the mausoleum. There, the drummer bangs three beats in quick succession and everyone stops. There is a respectful pause. Only the strong, clear notes of Angus' flute pierce the silence for a few more moments, fading into quiet. Then, on some unseen cue, the six escorts turn, step to the wagon, and pull out five golden urns. Each urn is sealed, and marked with a symbol. The escorts circle back around the wagon, each falling into line behind the unencumbered leader. The line snakes between the wagon and the apartments, around the front of the horses, and then to the small alter. There they meet the two priests, who took the direct route. The five urns are placed on a shelf in front of the temple, visible to all. The escorts walk back to the wagon and wait in silence.
The priest of Gargul speaks. Raising his hands skyward, he prays, "Great Lord Gargul, we meet today to plead on behalf of these five innocents. We ask that you send your minions to guide their journey, that their spirits may swiftly cross the Realm of Shadow and find their way to the Lands of Rest. Lord Gargul, these five, a mother and her children, have lived hard lives, and died a hard death. Grant our plea, so that now their spirits may find comfort and peace in Haven Far."
Lowering his eyes and hands, the priest gazes over the gathered crowd. "We thank you for coming. It speaks well of Ms. Flaust that so many people from so many Levels would come to bid her goodbye today. Should any care to speak, now is the time."
Wynn steps up to the podium, and delivers powerfully poignant performance. Tears flow down the faces of the assembled, and soft sobbing can be heard from the crowd of children. Kyria appears next to Xenia, and silently clings to the elf's leg.
The podium is open for anyone else who wishes to speak.
Angus d20+7=25 Monday August 2nd, 2004 1:01:47 PM
As Wynn leaves the platform, Angus begins to play his silver flute again (perform 25). Angus will play the mournful tune until the next individual takes the podium.
Angus is choked with emotion and doing everything to concentrate on his playing.
Lang d20+6=20 Monday August 2nd, 2004 1:06:10 PM
Lang is touched by Wynn's words and gives Sunshine a reassuring scratch, maybe more for himslef than for Sunshine.
When Wynn draws near Lang whispers. "Well chosen words my friend, nicely done."
Lang remains ever vigilent and watchfull of the crowd (spot 20), bearing in mind that the Anvil Heart Gang can show their face in many ways.
Tionel Monday August 2nd, 2004 5:11:49 PM
The elf steps up to the dais after a few moments, looking momentarily as though he doesn't know exactly what he's going to say. But when he speaks, it comes out smooth and even. "This is a hard world for those who have no home. They wander the shadowed wildernesses and dark backstreets trying to survive. To meet their basic needs. But those basic needs aren't enough for elves, or humans, or any race of good beings. We have hungers of the flesh, but also hungers of the heart. To live, and not just survive, we must feed those as well. We must be loved. "This is not a time to think about death and dying, because Mama Flaust was not a person to do such all the time. She was a person who gave everything she had to make others survive and live, so that they could grow up into loving beings. She defended those who were defenseless, and inspired others to do the same. "What is a good person, but one who loves and cares? What is a living person, but one who gives to others? We all aspire to be heroes, but what is a hero, but one who does what others should do? "In that way, Mama Flaust was a heroine, because she loved all her children, even when the worst was happening. She was always there, always offering a home for the homeless. Home isn't a place, it's being loved, and she was a home to many people. She may be gone, but she built homes in many other people. We're all stronger for her presence on this world. "Thank you." Tionel departs the stand, feeling very clumsy due to some annoying blots of moisture that are clouding his eyes...
Florin Jadenth d20+2=20 Monday August 2nd, 2004 8:49:10 PM
Florin looks to the side after the first and even the second speach is over. He forces himself not to cry at this moment, demanding that he wait and shed tears when the time is finally here and when Mama Flaust's spirit can rest in true peace with the knowledge that her killers were brought to justice.
Florin keeps his eyes open for any anvil heart members or even any threats among the crowd. <spot:20>
Feeling guilt quickly well up in him for a moment at Tionel's comment of Mama Flaust being a home to everyone. Florin is also quite noticeably scanning the crowd for something to get his mind off of this thought....or maybe someone to ease his thoughts, a smile or friend even knows beyond the group he has few to none.
Xenia Monday August 2nd, 2004 9:34:27 PM
Xenia stands staunch and silent amongst the tears and sobbing. All the way, that is, until she feels the little arms wrap around her leg. The quake of Kyria's muffled sobs soak into her flesh. The little blonde girl's tiny wail strikes and Xenia's heart rings like a tuning fork.
"It's ... alright." She feels her lower lip begin to tremble "It's alright" She feels the hot pinch of tears come to her eye; the sniff of a sob. Then the dam breaks. Xenia is kneeling, holding the little girl, the world is a wavy underwater blur mixed around in her own and Kyria's heaving sobs. She hears Wynn's voice like the sound of angels calling from the clouds. She feels his presence next to her and reaches out to touch him. She hears Tionel, the solemn voice of gratitude.
And Xenia pulls back to kiss the child's golden brow.
"It's alright, Kyria. You wanna know why? Because they're not gone. You see this here?" She points to Kyria's chest. "That's where they are. 'Cause you're here. And I'm here. And all these people. 'Cause we're all here now, and we all remember them, they aren't gone. And even if we couldn't be here for them in the end, we're here for them now. And even if we couldn't prevent their deaths, even though we made our mistakes, we still love them. And we gotta know that they love us back," and Xenia's voice cracks, and Xenia's talking rather louder than she had wanted to ... but she doesn't care.
Xenia points to her heart. "Right in here. They're right in here."
Wynn Brightsong Monday August 2nd, 2004 9:57:47 PM
Wynn nods his head in acknowledgement of the words of praise from his friends and pays solemn attention during the rest of the ceremonies. Tionel's words strike a vibrant chord with the half-elf and he makes a mental note to talk at length with the elf.
Syr Tuesday August 3rd, 2004 4:44:20 AM
Silently, the elf moves to meet Tionel as he leaves the stage. Giving him a warm hug he whispers, "Well said my friend, Well said." Content to let those words be the last said he remains silent once again.
Final Words (DM MikeK) Tuesday August 3rd, 2004 9:50:31 AM
Tionel climbs up to the podium and says a few words. He finishes, and retreats back to the group, tears clouding his eyes. As he walks back, he hears the occasional "Good job" or "Well said" quietly uttered from the people he passes.
Florin and Lang scan the crowd, but see only mourners.
Syr meets Tionel with some words of praise. As he does, a pair small hands grab hold of one hand from each of them. The boy is about 8, very serious looking. Both men recognize him from their days with the orphanage. His name is Keran, and Tionel took him fishing not so long ago. Keran says nothing, he just tightly holds the hands of the two.
Kyria listens to Xenia through half-choked sobs. As the rogue finishes, the girl throws her arms around her neck and clings desperately. Her sobs are winding down, and she wipes her nose vigorously on the shoulder of Xenia's shirt. But, she doesn't let go.
Some of the orphans speak. Their words echo those of Tionel, and speak of Mama's devotion and care. Others speak of the four children -- of Mayrl and Torken, Perry and Drake, and how kind and loving and caring those kids were.
Finally, Lady Firiona stands. "I cannot add any words to describe the good deeds done on this site by these people that you have not already supplied," she tells the children. "You knew them better than we. And today you have helped us know them a little better." She smiles at the kids. "These children have endured so much, too much for such few years. And I, in truth any of us, cannot grant them the rewards and the life they so dearly deserve. But, we of the Friends of the Children can do some small things. Within the week, we will open Gordo's Orphanage on the Merchant Level to house these young ones. And on this site, we are building a theatre, to provide entertainment and happiness to the children of our city. It shall be named the Thomen Theatre, in honor of the siblings, Maryl and Torken, who died in this tragedy." She stops to the polite applause from a few of the mourners. "I only wish we could do more," she says sincerely and steps down.
Angus Tuesday August 3rd, 2004 1:17:49 PM
Angus puts his flute away and wipes away his tears. Angus then goes through the crowd of mourners talking with the children and thanking those who attended.
Angus seeks out lady Firiona "Thank you for your kind deeds for the children. You will help make all of their lives better."
Angus thinks to himself, a fitting tribute to those so innocent. Today for sorrow and rememberance and Tomorrow retribution.
Lang Tuesday August 3rd, 2004 1:24:13 PM
Lang is somewhat uncomfortable as he is not very good in crowds, preferring the solitude of the woods.
As usual, Sunshine brings him out of his shell; when the ceremony ends and people move about, so does sunshine. Lang brings sunshine to see the children so that they can pet him. It seems to make the kids feel better.
Lang is wondering to himself what course of action his new friends will take now that the children have a new home and protector. Several of his new companions are very passionate on the subject, but it has not gotten the group in much trouble to date and the Anvil Hearts seem to have it coming.....
Wynn Brightsong Tuesday August 3rd, 2004 7:22:09 PM
When the ceremony is over, Wynn picks his way through the crowd towards Florin and gently ushers him to a quiet spot.
"Florin my friend" he looks the paladin in the face, "I am concerned about the path you are taking. You are our leader, yet you venture forth alone, without our assistance." Wynn checks to make sure that Florin still listens before continuing, "You have taken the blame for the loss of the orphanage solely upon your own shoulders when it is clearly not yours to take. You followed your heart and the teachings of your god, and still the innocents were sacrificed. I am not a religious man, but surely the gods have more control of what does and does not happen than any paladin, regardless of how brave or how devout. No quarter will be given to the Anvil Hearts. Their vile deed will set even the common folks against them. They will find no refuge in Floating City."
Wynn points out each of the party members in turn to the paladin, "These people need you Florin. They need you to lead them and to set the tenor of our actions. They need Florin the Paladin of Domi, not Florin the Avenger."
Tionel d20+3=23 Tuesday August 3rd, 2004 8:58:31 PM
Tionel pats Keran on the shoulder and gives Syr a hug back. He looks his brother (not literal, but of the same race) in the eye and nods politely, then returns to his place and watches the others speak. When the Lady gives her kind donation, he cannot bring himself to burst into joy, but when she's done speaking he waits for a moment with her, then goes to one knee, taking her hand and kissing it, and looking up at her with warmth and sincerity, saying, "You are truly a great lady, my lady." Afterwards, he also goes over to Xenia and the girl Kyria still clinging to her. "How are you two doing? Oh, here, Kyria..." He absentmindedly holds out a beautiful budding rose to her, and another one out for Xenia. "Watch out for the thorns." Then, he gives each a hug, and when he slips away, Kyria discovers in her pocket a little toy eagle, whose wings flap up and down with a movement. (Pickpocket 23)
Xenia d20+15=32 Tuesday August 3rd, 2004 9:39:23 PM
Xenia sniffs and smiles at Tionel as she sees the little toy eagle go into Kyria's pocket. (Spot 32) Her mouth forms the silent words, Thank you.
"C'mon, Punkin," she says, standing and taking Kyria by the hand. "You know what's just as important as love and forgiveness? Huh? It's thanks." Xenia sniffs again and clears the remnant of tears from her eyes with her free hand. "Yup, that's right. So, you know what? I think we'd better go over and see the nice lady and thank her for doing all this stuff for you and the rest of the kids and Mama Flaust."
"Um, Ma'am? Uh, Lady Firiona? My name's Alexandria Next. You met me, but just a little over in the apartments. And this is Kyria. She used to live in the orphanage. We're both really grateful to you for your generosity. And, and, I just wanted to tell you how much, well, how much it means to me. I mean, because it's not just giving the money. And it's not just helping the kids. I mean, I love the kids, but, what I want to say, is that I've also learned something from this. I mean, it feels nice to give people stuff and spend money on them. Anybody knows that. But, what you've taught me is that it's not just money. What you're buying them is hope. And the future. You're helping them down the road to the future. And that's something so much more than the money."
"So I want to thank you, Lady Firorina." Xenia kneels behind Kyria and wraps her thin arms around her in a hug. "We want to thank you."
Florin Jadenth Wednesday August 4th, 2004 12:10:43 AM
Florin lets Wynn lead him away and he listens to what Wynn has to say. Florin afterwards looks out over the crowd and nods slightly before whispering loud enough for Wynn to hear, "I know my duties my new friend and I will hold to them as I should. I have found something today that I lost before. All thought I can't begin to truely grieve for the loss here till the anvil heart pay. I owe the noble lady and those children there that much and I will some how acomplish it. I also take risks where I think they are needed. Tell the others one by one that tonight we are not seeking the anvil heart, the rest of today is for us to think over our next actions and to remember what has happened here."
Florin gently grabs Wynn's shoulder and pulls off his visor helmet so Florin's blue eyes can meet Wynn's, "The anvil heart are not done with us and they will find us instead of us finding them. I believe this now and the others need to see it also. Life will of been made to hard here for the anvil hear as long as we and the people are here to push the guards into not letting his matter be forgotten."
Florin now moves and approaches Lady Firiona, stopping to allow Xenia and Kyria time to talk to the noble lady before Florin steps up and pats both Xenia and Kyria on the shoulder softly, "Lady Firiona, I thank you for what you have done and are doing to help the kids and our dear friend Gordo. You offer the children a dream and a ray of hope when darkness had shadowed the light they once knew. I to hope to help one of these kids by taking him or her on as my own. I plan to have my sister who is a priestess of Flower come with me to meet Gordo and adopt one of the kids. I also plan to buy a small house for the kid to call home and everything a child should have in a family. I feel I owe this to Mama Flaust and you also have given me the courage to do more then I am to help these kids. I know I'm not fully to blame for what has happened but I do give a vow here and now, infront of the very noble Mama Flaust, the kids who lost their lives, this crowd, my friends and you also Lady Firiona that the people who weilded the fire will be brought to justice."
(Jumping alittle ahead but just incase MikeK here.)
Florin will send word after the funeral to his siter who serves as one of the priestess of Flower and also he sends a letter to his teacher to become a paladin who Florin knows loves kids to please meet him at the GG. He explains in the message that he wishes to adopt a child and would like both of their support.
Florin will also see about getting a time to see someone about renting a house for now and seeing what it needs to furnish it atleast moderatly so everything will be remotely ready.
Goodbye, Hello? (DM MikeK) Wednesday August 4th, 2004 10:03:44 AM
Several of the party members take the time to seek out and thank Lady Firiona. She nods to Angus, and gives Xenia and Kyria a smile as they approach. "I remember you, dearie," she responds to the rogue, "Kaffe and tea, I believe." She cups Kyria's face in her hands and gives her a kiss on the forehead. Xenia can't help but notice the momentary wave of grief that washes across the noblewoman's face she does so.
The woman bows her head slightly in mute, and embarrassed acknowledgement of Tionel's praise. "We all help in our own way," she responds.
And she beams at Florin when he announces he is taking in one of the children. Taking Florin's hand in hers, she looks at the paladin. "Such devotion," she exclaims in near awe."
Syr and Keran hold hands, watching the ceremony.
Lang finds he and Sunshine are surrounded by a dozen or so children, each seeking to pet the German Shepherd.
While this activity goes on, Father Dremmond takes each urn from the pedestal, and places it in an alcove in the wall. The priest of Gargul follows, murmuring a prayer and then sealing the alcove with another stone.
The crowd watches in solemn silence this very final step of the journey, when the ceremony is shockingly interrupted by a loud voice calling from up the street.
Unwanted Guests (Ex-ADM / Al) Wednesday August 4th, 2004 11:03:48 AM "Well, well, well!" a voice cold with cynicism cuts through the low chatter of sobs and condolences.
"What have we here? Leftovers from the barbecue?"
Standing above the crowd on the stoop of the apartments themselves stands the short blond figure of Specialty Johnson. A sardonic smile dances upon her lips.
"Huhu-huhu-Ahu! Thas a good one, Spesh," the hulking Byton Ashtor stands at her right shoulder. Despite his braying laughter, the man's eyes are cold with malice. "Ah like them little ones best. They's crunchy."
The third figure does not even put on the pretense of a smile. His eyes search the crowd. "Where is the dwarf? The killer of my brother is cowering somewhere afraid to show his face? He is not so stupid as you, I see. Running here and there like the brainless chickens."
"Yes, they have been busy, haven't they, Emilio? And, you know, I've heard that you can get yourself into a lot of trouble when you get too busy. Especially if you aren't careful where you do your business."
Specialty saunters off the stoop and into the edge of the crowd. The two behind her move with her as one.
"People get hurt. It's not pretty. Is it, Boyo?" she says stopping to ruffle the hair of a little towheaded boy. "Some people just have no sense of responsibility. No sense of place. You know, boys, I once heard a great man say that fewer innocents in this Wold would get hurt if people only knew their place."
Specialty and her crew move to the southern end of the lot and take up a position across the street. From there, they address the crowd.
"So many nice people here today. So nice to see it. So nice to get to know all of your names. So nice to see that people still come together in the face of tragedy. It's a shame that those responsible don't have the head to own up to it, isn't it now?"
Reactions (DM Mike) Wednesday August 4th, 2004 11:40:17 AM
The adults of the crowd are too stunned at the blatant audacity of the three to do much of anything.
Kyria clamps onto Xenia.
Keran grabs Syr's leg and pulls him close.
The crowd of children about Lang and Sunshine close in tightly around the ranger.
Six teenaged orphans, all about 14 years old, surge in blind anger toward the three armed Anvil Hearts. Gordo reacts swiftly to grab two of them, but the other four pelt on in heedless anger.
Florin Jadenth Wednesday August 4th, 2004 12:22:42 PM
Florin frowns at this sudden intrusion and quickly dashes forward, calling out to the teenagers, "Stop!"
If able Florin dashes infront of the kids and gives each one a stern look and whispers, "I understand mosto f your anger but hold yourselves. This is for us to handle and not for you, trust me in this matter and go to Gordo."
Florin turns to Specialty, "Ill time to be showing yourselves. You raise a finger of harm here and we will defend these kids and this crowd of people." Florin glances over the group and shrugs, "I gave the order to attack you in that cave after your not so nice meeting before so your brother died at my orders to the group."
Florin glances back to the people and speaks clearly, "People, I ask you to please escourt Gordo and the orphans to their new home. They should be safe in the safty of the crowd and also with Father Dremand and a priest of Gargul." Florin then glances in the general places he thinks his friends are, "My friends please step up here but I ask you to not pull your weapons inless forced."
Florin holds his gaze now on Specialty, "If we truely are to blame for everything thats happened then you should of spoke to the city guards like we have. Or have you not because you all know what you did is wrong and your not law abiding citizens. I can offer simple choices, you all can come with us to get this straightened out then. I'm sure the city guard would love to hear the whole story from you since you been hiding in little rat holes from us and them. Or do you have some other reason to show your evil hides here in broad day light? figured that the light might blind and hurt such filthy people that live in deep rat holes." Florin takes a deep breath as his free hand grips his vizor helmet, "You'll find my patience is gone at this moment as is my diplomacy. I allowed three of you to live before and you paid us back nicely for my honorable act of mercy, but what is mercy to a bunch of cut throats lead by a spinless jelly fish."
Lang d20+6=10 Wednesday August 4th, 2004 12:51:52 PM
Upon seeing the Gang member, Lang is now regretting not wearing his armor to the ceremony, put he puts that aside for a moment.
Lang quickly attempts to quite the kids around him and Sunshine and to get them behind himself. "Do like Florin asks go to Gordo or Father Dremmond." Lang quickly scans the area to see which is closer, but more importantly he is looking for other gang members (spot 10).
Once Lang takes care of sending the kind to a spervising adult he and sunshine will edge forward to back up Florin. Lang will walk with his quarter staff and feel the comforting weight of his quiver (and supplies).
Angus Wednesday August 4th, 2004 12:57:19 PM
Once Angus see the gang members and hears their rant he will blurt out "Murderers!!!" and then point at specialty Johnson.
Angus will attempt to get control of himself, but it is a clear struggle and then cast mage armor on himself.
Angus will move forward, he seems to have forgotten those around him. Angus will remain behind Florin, his brow is furrowed and their is an unhealthy glint in his eyes as he looks at the scum that recently burned and killed.
Angus thinks to himself that it is time to return the favor......
More From the Unwanted Guests (Ex-ADM / Al) Wednesday August 4th, 2004 1:29:39 PM
"Wait, wait, wait," Specialty Johnson raises her hands for a stop to all of this nonsense. "Kind ladies and kind gentlemen, did I hear this man right? Is this man here accusing us of something? If you are, Big Man, why don't you just come out straight and lay those cards on the table, huh?"
"If you're going to be slinging around words like "rat" and "spineless jellyfish" you really should have something to back it up. So tell me, big strapping Paladin all suited up in your tin can, what exactly is the beef you have with us? I know the problem we have with you. You cut down my men. You as much said so yourself just now."
"Look at this man, good ladies and gentlemen. The words he's spitting out all over your good streets. Is it no wonder we're hiding from the likes of him? Are you all sure you want someone so prone to rabid violence here in your midst?"
The Anvil Heart turns her face so that only Florin can see. She smiles and winks at the Paladin.
"As to the Watch, if you knew anything about your city, Big Boy, you'd know that no one from Trash goes to the watch. They're as flaccid as your insults."
"Oh! Oh! The skinny one's got something to say. Tell us Scarecrow, tell us who we're supposed to have murdered? OH, check the look in his eyes, Byton."
"Huhuhu," the big hulk of meat laughs again.
"What you going to do, thin man?" Specialty shoots at Angus. "Burn us like you did last time?"
Florin Jadenth Wednesday August 4th, 2004 7:52:10 PM
(OOC:Don't know if it's okay to make a second post so just delete this if I wasn't suppose to beable to.)
Florin looks to specialty and frowns deeply, "Yes, we attacked you in the cave without knowing your attentions but you make it sound like you are good, honest people worthy of a second thought that you would not attack us first. When a invisible person popped out of the water you all fired the first shot if I remember correctly."
Florin glances back to the people and then to Specialty, "Playing the crowd does little good Specialty when I showed mercy on you and your lover boy there. When we got back the orphanage was on fire and a note daggered to the door written by the anvil heart....the note simply said for us to not get in the way again. It was clear what you all did specially since Gordo and the kids are wittness to you burning the orphanage down. My orders may have been a mistake but yours was not, yours was intentional and you harmed innocents instead of those who you say deserved it."
Wynn Brightsong Wednesday August 4th, 2004 8:07:35 PM
"Hear me" Wynn shouts out to the crowd. "I am not from this city, I have no ties to bind me, no strong reason to believe or disbelieve what has been spoken, but surely the Temple of Domi can detect the truth when they hear it."
Wynn approaches Specialty Johnson and in a loud voice challenges her claim of innocence.
"If you are as innocent as you say, subject yourself to the clerics of Domi, let them be the judge of your words. If you are truly innocent of these ignoble deeds they will know!"
Xenia Wednesday August 4th, 2004 8:47:39 PM
Xenia says nothing, because what she has to say would only scare little Kyria even more. Instead, she closes her eyes and holds the girl in her arms, turning the depth of her feelings to love rather than hate.
As the others are facing down the Hearts, Xenia pulls back and places a fierce kiss against the blonde girl's forehead.
"Here, look at me. That's right look at me. There is nothing to be afraid of, Punkin. Nothing at all. If you hold on to those people that you love, if you stick to what you think is right, then you have nothing to be afraid of. Nothing at all."
"You see those three swaggering around. You hear them trying to tell everyone how bad we are? Well, they wouldn't need to if they weren't afraid themselves. If they were really brave, if they really believed what they were saying, then they'd go on with their lives. They wouldn't be here bothering someone else, because they would have more important things to do. They would be building stuff or making other people happy instead of trying to hurt other people."
"You understand? There's no reason to be afraid of them. I mean, sure, they can hurt you, and you have to watch out for that. But they aren't worth being afraid of."
Unwanted Guests Walk Away (Ex-ADM / Al) Wednesday August 4th, 2004 9:06:41 PM
"You're new," Specialty Johnson says looking the half-elven bard up and down with a calculating eye. "Yes, you must be. Because if you knew anything about us, you'd know we're a secret society. We do good works down on Trash Level, but we can't afford to have our secrets revealed. We have enemies. Like these assassins. And I'm afraid we can't let this turn into an excuse for them to dig our secrets out of us."
"Why should we submit to a liar? He says that we shot first." The blonde woman's voice rises with indignation and she thrusts a finger in Florin's direction. "Well I tell you that we did not get off a single shot! Not one. Oh, true, we might have. We had been beset by horrors from the Crying Woods all day. We were jumpy and afraid for our lives. We might have. But we didn't. We were overwhelmed before we knew it. They came out of the water so fast it was frightening!!!"
"So why would he say that we fired the first shot?" Specialty Johnson shrugs. "Maybe he remembers it wrong."
"Or maybe he's still out to get us."
"Lets go boys," she says executing a slow turn and heading back down Rogue's Alley. Their backs are turned to the crowd, but a voice drifts over their shoulders.
"No sense reasoning with cowards and liars."
[[ OoC: I dunno about DM MikeK, but I'd say go for it, Justin. It's not as though we're in combat rounds. ]]
Tionel Wednesday August 4th, 2004 10:17:04 PM
Tionel can't help but have the opposite reaction to everyone else...he laughs, and then hurries forward. Stepping after the departing gang, he says in a low, sardonic voice, "I see! The all-respected anvil heart gang. As though your low status provides you a shield, and gives you a reason to do unchecked destruction on others. As though having a bad life means you can hurt others. As though being raised up without a home means you can burn down the homes of those who most need them.
"You easily give reasons for wanting revenge, skipping ahead in the story to where it most suits you. Why were you there, wandering through the crying woods in misery? Why were you in the cavern we had come to? You refuse to say why, but I know it: You were there seeking a drug, a narcotic, a horrible substance that destroys lives. Oh, you valiant heroes of the trash level. You have allied yourselves with a most horrible figure, the Jack. You even admit that your gang leader is heartless and would do this kind of thing. I'm glad you're leaving, Specialty Johnson, but I pity you. Not because you're poor, or raised in a bad situation, or even because you've done something really stupid in coming here today. I pity you because you're loyal to a group which doesn't deserve your devotion, to a friend who would murder orphans, that even though you're very smart, you fool yourself into doing stupid things." Then, he turns back.
Wynn Brightsong Thursday August 5th, 2004 7:51:58 AM
"If you are truly innocent, let Father Dremmond be the judge." Wynn calls out at the receding trio.
Angus Thursday August 5th, 2004 8:58:54 AM
Angus looks to Florin and the to the retreating scum. "Are you going to let them go?"
Angus steps forward and calls after the gang members "You have made many grievious mistakes, Specialty Johnson. There will be retribution for you and your ilk, you can count on it. You have shown your heartless nature, by coming here and desecrating this ceremoney that you are responsible for. You burned the orphanage, you and the Anvil Heart Gang. Those who ally themselves with the Anvil Heart Gang are aiding known murderers of children!!!" Angus's voice reaches a fever pitch at the end.
"Retribution will follow you!" Angus screams and looks directly at Florin. Breathing deeply Angus adds. "What now Florin. It is time to lead."
Bad Ending (DM MikeK) Thursday August 5th, 2004 9:41:23 AM [OOC -- OK fellas, no more multiple posts. Your poor DM can't keep up with the scene]
Florin manages to cut off the teenagers. The four stare at him in baleful defiance. Fists clenched, they do not retreat. However, they don't advance either.
Florin's call for the crowd to escort the kids away doesn't have much effect. Some of the smaller children are scared, but most of the adults in the crowd are more shocked and curious then afraid of anyone's safety. After all, there are but three of the intruders. The two priests alone are likely able to handle them.
Angus and Lang move behind Florin, leveling words and glares at the Anvil Hearts, who loudly profess their innocence.
"Liar!" screams one of the teens. "Gordo says you did it! I'll kill you all myself!" Gordo holds fast to this one. "Son," he whispers fiercely, "We've no proof. Get a hold of yourself!" But Gordo's eyes flash, and leave no doubt about his thoughts on the matter. The monk restrains himself for the children, and that is the only reason he does so.
Wynn attempts to sway the crowd. They are unsure. In general they support the group, but are unwilling to push it further. No one attempts to stop the three Hearts as they walk away. They leave to the sounds of Angus' threats and Tionel's mockery.
Tionel earns a glare from the big one. Angus is ignored.
The solemn and dignified mood is thoroughly shot, and the two priests rather quickly finish the entombment and close the mausoleum. The crowd disperses in disgust. Gordo gives Florin a look, and calls the children around him. "Come on kids. We're going home." He and Lady Firiona lead them up the street toward the ramp to the upper levels.
Florin Jadenth Thursday August 5th, 2004 11:25:20 AM
Florin sighs and looks to Angus and whispers to him, "If we would of attacked them or moved to follow then we give this crowd reason to believe what the rift raft said is true. We can not afford the city people to be against us in this matter or we might as well leave town now."
Florin sighs deeply, in conflict with himself now also, he wanted so much to kill that group where they stood and with a force of iron will he kept himself from doing so. His face has went void of alot of his feeling. As he notices Gordo's look he sighs again and looks to Angus, "Gather the group back at the apartments, I wish to speak to Gordo."
Florin moves quickly to cetch up with Gordo and once there speaks in as small of a whisper as he can to keep things between them, "I seen the look my friend...I might not of been right in what I said or did but what would you of had me do? If we would of attacked or anything then we might of turned the crowd against us which we sorely don't need that. Plus they could of had friends close and I would attempt no risk to the children considering they have suffered enough already."
Florin sighs and shakes his head, visibly shaking now, "I wanted to so much too...dang it...if only she and her goons would not of shown up now and with so many people to listen to her words that could of sways them. I will speak to the group and see where we go from here Gordo my friend and I'm sorry if my course back there angered or hurt you. I've never lead a group before and this is all so new to me...later I will see you with the buisness we spoke of a few days ago, I wrote my sister and also asked father Dremond to come."
Florin is hoping the last thing he said might help lighten Gordo's mood on what has happened and Florin rushes back to the others who he figures would of met at the apartment now and comes in, "I'm sorry I only had us stand back and do nothing other then cross words with them. I didn't want to take the chances of a attack from us being taken wrong by the crowd. The anvil hearts words could of swayed some of the crowd and us attacking could of been taken as a comfirmation of our guilt or maybe us trying to silence what we didn't want known. Also we couldn't really take the chances of there being more anvil hearts near by to harm the crowd or kids while we did anything."
Florin looks to Syr and Tionel for some backing here, "I figured the welfare of the kids at this moment and the crowd was more important then vengence and the anvil heart have shown that they will continue trying to silence us since they know we will not give up. This offers us more chances at their hides and probably soon." Florin's knuckles have gone white in their clenching of his visor helmet and his hand even shakes in the strain of the grip he has on his helmet, it is clear that Florin is trying to keep a tight grip on his anger and be the leader needed at this moment, "We need to ease this mood now, if any of you have ideas on how then we shall decide on something to do from here but I will say here that I think the anvil heart will find us and once we get our hands on a actual anvil heart member then we will get the info one where they are living. I know my dicisions are disappointing to many of you and many of you are probably ready to blowup at me."
Florin turns now and goes out into the garden to let the group talk, whispering to himself as he goes, "Often the leader stands alone with his dicisions....never knew what you meant by that when you taught me that saying teacher...till lately.."
Angus Thursday August 5th, 2004 1:00:16 PM
Angus responds to Florin's words "You are worried about how the city folk feel about us? When we go after the scum, we will not find a crowd more in our favor that there is now. Look around you Florin, look at the saddness that the Anvil Hearts have caused. These people do not harbor any even neutral feelings for those scum." Angus points in the direction of the Anvil Hearts.
Angus softens his tone " I can appreciate it, it you were concerned for the saftey of those in attendance, but the Anvil Heart Gang will never be so, they will always look to use our sensibilities to their advantage."
Angus catches himself. "Specialty Johnson already knew us, but now she and her vermin know of The Lady Firiona. The orphans are still in danger as long as those scum breath."
Angus marches off not looking back "I will meet with you and the rest of the group back at the apartments, for our plan to deal with this situation."
Lang Thursday August 5th, 2004 1:06:50 PM
Lang know his is a man of few words, but he is amazed at all of the recent dialog.
Lang takes out his shorts swords and his bow from his quiver and replaces his staff. After strapping on the swords, he comments to Sunshine "That feels better."
Lang looks to Florin "I'll go after Angus, and meet you back home. None of us should be alone in the city anymore as it is too dangerous for us now. It looks like things might get a bit exciting soon."
Lang gives Sunshine a quick scratch behind the ears and says "Ready to go boy? Lets find you a treat."
Lang and Sunshine take off after Angus.
Xenia Thursday August 5th, 2004 4:28:18 PM
Xenia watches the backs of the three Anvil Hearts as they walk away down the street. She hugs Kyria all the tighter.
She takes the little girl's hand when Gordo begins rounding the kids up for the trip to Merchant Level.
"I'm gonna miss having you right next door, you know?" she says, and plants a kiss at the top of little Kyria's forehead. "But I'll come up and visit you. You bet I will. I'm gonna be with you until you grow up to be the best little lady that ... well, that you want to be."
The red-headed rogue watches as the kids troop off up the street.
"And look in your pocket to see what Uncle Tionel left you," she calls after them with a smile.
Then the dark rogue looks for their leader.
"I'm gonna gear up Florin," she says and then turns to go. She stops after only a single step.
"I thought you did good today," Xenia says without turning back. "It doesn't matter who was right and who wrong back there, you know. It doesn't. The only thing that matters is what you do from now on. I thought you did the right thing."
Pause.
"You know, Florin ... you really oughtn't go off on your own so much. People ... Well, we worry, you know."
And then she's gone.
Next she finds Wynn. Xenia smiles, puts an arm around the bard's waist and gives him a hug. "That was wonderful. Everyone loved it." She gives him a squeeze again before breaking away. "I'm gonna go upstairs and change. I think we're gonna need to be geared up and on the watch for a while."
And Xenia head upstairs to her room.
Wynn Brightsong Thursday August 5th, 2004 10:18:25 PM
Wynn smiles when Xenia hugs him and praises his efforts, but his thoughts are elsewhere. "I think we should stop and reconsider the evidence" he suggests to whoever will listen. "I have yet to hear any substantive proof that the Anvil Hearts were directly responsible for the fire at the orphanage. I do not believe them to be innocents, but they may not be resposible for this act. Is there anyone else who would benefit from the destruction?"
Tionel Friday August 6th, 2004 12:14:28 AM
Tionel waits until the funeral is over, saddened by the disruption, then goes over to his friends to discuss the changes. The elf nods at Wynn's suggestion. "Well, there is one other person...but he doesn't strike me as so vindictive. Besides, I believe he is allied with Jonas. In any case, when get Jonas, I want to charm him, to get him to tell us all he knows, before anyone does any harm to him. In fact... "Florin, I know you've probably heard this before, but I think I should say it one more time. We are on a mission not of revenge, but of justice. While personal feelings motivate us, we really can't let them drive us to do the same thing to innocents. I suggest that we always hold back our blows to knock out, rather than kill." Tionel draws the paladin further aside and speaks soothingly, "Further...let me tell you something. A paladin should not be a leader, even though he is naturally gifted for such things. Because a leader has to make hard decisions, often those that will endanger others regardless of the choices. Paladins should always offer advice and do as they think; not make choices tat will endanger their soul. Let Syr take the position, or Lang. Or even I... Though I might not be the best leader, since I always advocate the way of peace. You, my friend, should choose as your heart dictates, not as others do."
Regroup (DM MikeK) Friday August 6th, 2004 10:00:51 AM
[OOC - Anybody heard from Scott/Syr?]
Florin moves to apologize to Gordo, but the monk shakes his head with a smile. "No, that wasn't the reason," he says. "It was right not to attack them." Chuckling sourly, he adds, "Otherwise I'd have been first in line. I thought the public accusations were a bad idea, though. Never know what a riled up crowd might do."
Gordo dismisses the incident with wave. "Water under the bridge now. You keep on 'em, son. Those folks'll make a mistake soon enough. Their kind always does."
He claps Florin on the shoulder. "Looking forward to your visit. Now, take care." Gordo returns to herding kiddies.
The party regroups back in the apartments to figure out their options.
Xenia Friday August 6th, 2004 1:12:17 PM
Xenia comes back down in her dark leathers. One strap of her haversack is slung over her right shoulder. Her walk is slow, and her face is set in a thoughtful frown.
Eyes still focused on some train of thought rolling on behind her eyes, the dark rogue moves on autopilot to a seat next to Wynn.
"I think Angus is right," she says at last. "We don't know anything about them. And the more we just live the more they know about us. I mean, how did they find out the time of the funeral?!?!?" Xenia throws her arms up in frustration.
"We gotta find out more about them. Get back some kind of balance. Otherwise, it's kind of like fighting blind. And, if you're fighting blind, you either get some light, or you run away."
"Hey, Tionel, you said something about someone who might be allied with Jonas. Any way we might be able to get him to cough up information on the Hearts? I mean, squeeze him or pay him or something?"
"Otherwise, we're just kind of running around blind and exposed."
Angus Friday August 6th, 2004 4:34:51 PM
Angus agrees with Xenia "We need a plan of action or attack. If Tionel is willing we can charm some people from the trash level to get additional information. As Xenia mentioned, we need more information, recon in force may be in order or at least recon with a back up or rescue team in place. We do have some stealthy members to our group. The steathly one poke around and the less stealthy half stays within rescue range. Any comments????"
Angus takes a big breath "We can not become too beligerant or the city guard will be on our tails."
Angus taps his chin for a moment before choosing his next words "The details of the cave are known only to the groups involved. The results of the action in the cave, brought the burning of the orphanage, and based on the note left at our apartments and the circumstantial evidence and Gordo account, the evil deed was done by the Anvil Heart Gang." Angus looks to Wynn "I trust that you are not questioning our determination to bring the Anvil Heart Gang to justice for the evil they have brought on the orphanage."
Angus looks to Florin "I feel we have to bring the fight to the gang for what they have done, but we need more information what do you propose? I am concerned that we and those we know are still in danger."
Lang Friday August 6th, 2004 4:39:50 PM
Lang and Sunshine meet back in the common room after Lang puts on his armor. "Much better!" Lang seems much more confident outfitted with his short sword, bow and armor.
Lang goes over to Tionel "Thank you for the vote of confidence." and leaves it at that.
Lang tells all those assembled. "We need to start setting a watch at the apartments, and if necessary at the new orphanage. We will be spread thin if we do so and will have to be careful about our scouting trips as both areas will be undefended."
Lang seems to have said his piece and bend down to play with Sunshine, but he is watching and listening to the group carefully.
Florin Jadenth Sunday August 8th, 2004 1:46:21 PM
Florin looks to Tionel as he has been in his own little world of though and smiles to Tionel, "In the beginning I agree with you Tionel but I was elected and will do my best to live up to party leader untill it is decided to remove me from that position and put someone else in it. Your right, it's a position of hard choices and alot of wondering but in any other circumstance then this there would be no real need for thinking it over. Most of our courses of action have been clear."
Florin looks to the others when the talk now also and speaks up, "It was not as much the crowd blaming us as much as would we of wanted to start a riot of any type? Imagine the people that would of been hurt and what if Specialty had more people near just incase? maybe even a mage with the use of some spell like fireball?"
Florin shakes his head and thinks, "I agree with searching more but where should we start? we looked over the Blackthorn and beyond the one enoucnter found nothing. I even made a search of the whole place and found nothing, not a clue of the anvil heart." Florin shrugs and grins lightly at this since the group knows nothing of his search of the Blackthorn and doesn't know Syr seen him.
Florin rubs his chin in thought before sighing, "First I say we take the threat of more injury to the orphans out of this. We either hire guards or see if the temple of Domi or such would be willing to station guards for a time being. Then that simply leaves us...the anvil heart made it clear we are a threat they can't live with so I would say everyone being careful and at all possible not leaving or going someplace on your own."
Florin looks to Syr and Angus, "I'm not saying we sit back and hide though, I'm simply saying that till we find more info out we have nothing to go on. Our best bet right now would be to wait for a attack so we can capture a anvil heart and question him or her. We need a real anvil heart and not a pettie thug."
Florin sighs gently and just knows his previous comments on not probably going to go over good, "Waiting for a attack is normally a bad idea but we atleast know it's coming and we know from who. Thats better then nothing and together I think "we" can handle anything the anvil heart throw at us." Florin then looks to Syr knowing he might be the one who speaks up the worst on this, "This is only a suggestion, I might be the leader but I will not make decisions for the group that have to be followed at all cost. I simply offer the best choice in my own opinion. We all know the anvil heart will attack us and with all of our searching we found nothing of them till they attacked us earlier, why not use what we know they will do against them?"
Wynn Brightsong Sunday August 8th, 2004 5:54:15 PM
"My only point Angus, was to suggest that there is much we still do not know. Other than Gordo's account we have little in the way of evidence against the hearts. I for one want to know what they use the flowers for, where they are taken once collected, and how they are distributed if that is indeed what happens to them. Armed with such information we have a much better chance of dealing with them."
Syr Monday August 9th, 2004 1:15:51 AM
Breaking out of his quiet depression from the funeral the elf addresses Angus' last comment, "I think everyone will agree that we need information. The question is how to get it? I'm kicking myself for not asking you to use your invisible spell so we might track them." He shakes his head in disgust and continues, "Your charm idea has some merit though. That won't do any harm to the target, will it? If not, it is then a matter of picking the right target to charm. Maybe the Innkeeper, he must have overheard SOMETHING over the years? They do seem to find us at will whenever they want to mix swords or words."
When Florin speaks his normally animated face becomes guarded and lacks all expression. The elf thinks for a moment of mentioning Florin's solo visit to the Blackthorn Inn. He shakes his head muttering, "notnow, needmoreproof." As the paladin concludes he nods quickly, "On the other hand, you do have a point. What if we set up a situation so that a person is in a seemingly vulnerable position. Would that provoke an attack? This is just a proposal to ambush the ambushers. It would have to be something routine where one of us is off alone? Probably best to keep as a backup plan as it puts one of us at risk."
(OOC: Sorry guys, I was sent to San Antonio for a couple days with work. I'm back in town now and things are back to normal)
Decisions, decisions (DM MikeK) Monday August 9th, 2004 11:29:59 AM
The group, stymied by the actions of the hated Anvil Hearts, continues to discuss their options.
Angus Monday August 9th, 2004 6:41:37 PM
Angus thinks over Syr's words "An ambush may be nice, maybe we can send a pair down to the trash level looking for more information, it we find any great, but if we generate attention even better. We can have the rest of the group ready for action to save the pair that are exposed."
Angus looks around and scratches his stubble of a beard. "Time to shave again. If we maintain a presence on the trash level we could disrupt their operation or maybe set up our own down their. Mind you we would have to fumeagate an building we rent." Angus catches his breath again after talking too fast. "As Wynn mentioned, maybe we can investigate the poison flowers on the trash level and analyze them in the shop we set up. Florin, maybe you can spread some cheer and hope to the downtrodden of the trash level, show then the greatness of Domi, and the like."
To TIonel "Where did you get this information about the Jack and that the scum are working with him?"
Lang Monday August 9th, 2004 6:44:47 PM
Lang muses all of the conversations "I am not sure we can trust the guard after what Johnson said about them, the temple guard, now that is an idea."
Lang adds "About setting up a shop, I do not have a great deal of funds, but I can watch people from afar for those who go looking for information." Lang strums his bow string to solidify the point.
Lang then takes Sunshine to the gardens for his business.
Tionel Monday August 9th, 2004 7:58:20 PM
Tionel spreads his hands outwards in an expression of everything. "Where did I get this information? Logic, experience... It might be all tied together, it might not. It's difficult to tell. I'd like to think that everything is tied together, that all this is a straight line of events, but it could just be random mishaps. "This Jack guy, we've encountered before. He's stolen things that we've guarded, for seemingly no purpose we could fathom. Then we go into the woods and find these witches who have kidnapped several beings...ghosts, an orphan from the trash level, and other girls. Then experimenting with a certain addictive and sickening flower on said beings. This was really how we got into all this trash level mess in the first place. In rescuing them, we apparently offended the trash level king, since his turtle never came back...which is strange, because the two orphans who brought us to the forest should have returned. I still haven't any clue what happened to them; and really, it's an avenue we could explore. If we had returned the damned sea turtle to Jonas, we wouldn't have had to do a favor for the druids, which involved more of those flowers from the trash level. "Anyways...if it *did* all add up, then this guy Jack could be Jonas himself...or more likely a really rich noble who has connections with the underworld. Because I don't think Jonas' personality is really as playful as Jack seemed the one time we encountered him. He might have had Jonas go after these flowers, because he needs them for whatever this drug he makes does. Which is how we encountered the trash level thugs down at the druid cove. And Jack, if he was malevolent enough, could have had the orphanage burned because we messed with his plans...but again, I don't think he would do something evil like that unless out of necessity. It just seems more Jonas style. "Anyways...all of that is just a hypothesis. It could be that this guy Jack has lost his interest in this flower, and Jonas is the one who is pushing for more of it because it seems like a drug. In which case, Jack has nothing to do with this. "But in any case...let's go take another crack at the Anvil Hearts. This time, we go into the trash level, and perhaps even the sewers itself, till we find one member of the gang. Just one at all...then, I charm him, and we have them lead us to their hideouts. I suggest we go right now, but if you wish to take the rest of the day off to honor Mama Flaust I understand." Tionel nods respectfully to Florin.
Florin Jadenth Monday August 9th, 2004 8:23:06 PM
Florin looks to everyone and listens to what is said as he thinks over everything. Florin nods finally after thinking, "I will act as the bait if we decide to use one of us to draw out a attack. I'm the leader for now and should take the most risk among you."
Florin looks to Syr and the others, "I know we all want to cetch the anvil heart now but I would like to ask the group to hold off till tomorrow, get a fresh start on things in the morning and also so we can let Mama Flaust have a whole day for herself. This day means alot to most everyone in this group. Specially Syr and the others who Mama Flaust was a true mom too."
Florin looks to Syr and speaks to him gently, "I called off the party I spoke of but I would like for us all to go and eat some place. We respected Mama Flaust at the funeral but I think we should honor her by giving her this whole day to her. An Syr, I wish to tell you that the party I wanted to plan was meant to be a celebration of how Mama Flaust lived and to help cheerup the orphans. I'm not good at words at funerals and such so only wished to do something I knew I could do. An in my training I have been told that the way someone lives is truely something to be celebrated, specially when the person has done so many noble and helpful things for others."
Florin look down and speaks slowly, he feels alittle embarassed about this since he figures someone could laugh at him going to try and be a dad, "I also am suppose ot meet with Gordo, my sister and father Dremond later to see about adopting one of the orphans. An I also got to checkup on renting a house on this level or the next to give the kid a nice place to live." Florin looks to Syr, figuring that he might be alittle more leanient since Florin needing to delay this is over him wanting to give a better life to one of the orphans. Florin speaks gently, "I thought I could give a orphan a better life and also I think it is something that may make Mama Flaust happy also since I do feel responsible for what has happened. Mostly though it helps a kid who needs a good family and a house and I think I can offer that."
Xenia Monday August 9th, 2004 8:50:39 PM
Xenia makes a kind of exasperated little sound and steps in front of Florin. "Why don't you just move in to the apartment?" she asks matter of fact like. "I don't speak for all of us, but, well, there's still room even after Lang and Wynn showed up." She looks at Syr, and Tionel, and some of the others who have been around longer. "Florin should move in with us, right?" she asks, looking for acknowledgement.
(OOC: Carla posting for a vacationing Al)
Woo! Good post, Carla. (Al, from a weird little internet cafe in Ikeda.)
Wynn Brightsong Tuesday August 10th, 2004 12:01:42 AM
Wynn listens to each of the party expound on what they know about Jonas, the Anvil Hearts, and how everything is connected to everything, unless of course it isn't. The bard puts his hand to his throbbing temple as he tries to absorb the complexity and the ambiguity of events. The only thing that seems clear is that further exploration is required below.
"I will accompany whoever goes to the trash level. I should be able to go unnoticed and can disguise one other if necessary."
Syr Tuesday August 10th, 2004 3:37:28 AM
Syr looks pensive, "I'm not sure Jack is behind the Hearts. I've met him a few other times in the past and this really doesn't seem his style. He always struck me as rather bumbling. If I remember right, he was always trying to be one of the Lords of the Diamond."
Peering out from underneath lashes at the paladin, Syr mumbles, "I can certainly see you meant well. I'm sorry for coming off so harsh. I was a bit rattled by everything." Smiling at Wynn, "Although today's memorial helped to ease some of that pain."
Looking at Florin, "Adoption? That's a lot of responsiblity you want to take. Are you sure you want to take on that risk? Given the ...trouble that we seem to seek out and the amount of time we'll be away, Are you sure adoption is the right thing? Don't let your guilt force you into something you don't really want to do."
"Standing and looking at the others, "Dinner sounds like a plan though. Lead on Sir Paladin."
A message (DM MikeK) Tuesday August 10th, 2004 11:39:20 AM
As the discussions continue, there is a timid knocking on the door.
On the other side is what looks like a waiter. Its a half-elf male, wearing dark pants, and a white shirt stained with gravy.
"Um, Happy said I was to give you a message," he stammers to the first person to open the door. "Well, to Florin, actually." "Happy says a 'mutual friend' just left him a message an he, that is, Happy, wants to talk to ya." Having delivered his message, the man stands there, plainly wishing someone would tell him to leave.
Tionel Tuesday August 10th, 2004 8:57:27 PM
"Oh. Thanks," Tionel tips the guy a silver, letting him go, and looks over to the rest. "Sounds like our plans are diverted for now. Let's go take a looksie?"
Lang Tuesday August 10th, 2004 10:29:45 PM
Lang hears the message from the visitor at the door and wonders who the message is from.
He looks at Florin and awaits his response.
Xenia Tuesday August 10th, 2004 11:08:00 PM
Gloved fist on hip and weight on one foot, the rogue looks at Florin. Her green eyes then light on Syr, Angus, and Tionel each in turn, before returning to Florin. "Well?"
Florin Jadenth Wednesday August 11th, 2004 1:03:54 AM
Florin hears the knock and sees others get to the door before he does. He is shocked at the comment of the messenger and nods to the others, "A previous engagement might of been setup but in all thats happened I do not remember what. I guess the only way to find out is for me to head to the GG and check it out. Will you all join me too. No for protection of course but since we planned to eat together then why not Happy's place and with a charming ghost waitress."
Florin lets everyone head out and follows Syr, clapping the man on the shoulder, "I know a kid is alot of responsability but I do wish to honestly try. I do not want to move in to the apartments with everyone, specially with a kid also since that seems rather rude of me. I may need to borrow alittle money depending from someone in the group but I do wish to do this and my sister is a cleric of Flower and of a fairly high class I believe with the temple. I also plan to higher a bodyguard or so considering the problem. Of course any kid I would have will learn to defend himself anyway inless he/she doesn't wish to."
Syr Wednesday August 11th, 2004 3:32:43 AM
Giving Xenia a wry grin, "Well at least one of us loves speaking with Daphne. Let's go. Does this mean Florin is taking care of the bill?"
The elf flinches slightly as Florin grabs his shoulder and hesitantly replies, "Well... umm... if it's money you need, I have always done well at saving mine? You may want to make it a bodyguard/babysitter?" He eyes the armored human warily, awaiting a response.
Wynn Brightsong Wednesday August 11th, 2004 7:49:16 AM
Wynn follows Xenia and Lang out the door. "A good meal and a drink seems to be in order" he says to no one in particular.
Angus Wednesday August 11th, 2004 7:50:07 AM
Angus Exclaims "Well, off to the Giggiling Ghost for dinner! Let us go see what is happening with Happy. Maybe he has news we can use. I hope for no ill tidings."
Angus looks at Sunshine " I am sure Happy will let you come too. we can get you a big bone."
At the Giggling Ghost (Dm MikeK) Wednesday August 11th, 2004 9:21:56 AM
With their curiousity sufficiently aroused, our heroes make the short trek down to the Giggling Ghost.
The are met in customary style by Daphne, who happily attempts to kiss each of her 'rescuers'. This excludes Wynn and Lang, who weren't there, and Xenia, because Daphne is not that kind of spirit.
It being late afternoon, the tavern floor is beginning to fill up with folks looking for a bite. Happy is working the clientelle, mingling and troubleshooting. Spotting the party, he waves them over to a semi-private booth. Waiters meet them there to take their orders, and quickly disappear.
Happy shows up a couple minutes later, doing his best 'conspirator' imitation. After carefully looking around for imagined listeners, he leans close to Florin and whispers confidentially, "A weasley fellow calling himself Fargas came by. He was one of them Hearts. He said his boss, Jonas, was tired of you both 'getting in each other's way' and wanted to meet you here to 'work out an understanding'."
Happy looks at Florin. "Fargas said he'd come back tonight and I could tell him what you said. So, what do I tell him?"
Angus Wednesday August 11th, 2004 7:51:05 PM
Angus glows under the attentions of Daphne. "Thank you Daphne, just remember that it was no trouble at all."
Once seated at the table Angus orders wine and almost chokes on it when Happy describes the potential meeting with Fargus. "Do we know Fargus? What is worse is that Jonas wants to call a truce after we have just laid to rest six innocents."
Angus gains his composure "I still say we see what this Fargus has to say and then I say we march down to the trash level and put up wanted posters for Jonas and Specialty Johnson. I will put up my money for the bounty. That may rouse them out of their holes, if thier neighbors are looking for them."
Angus take a calming sip of wine "What say you all do we make a deal with the murderer of innocents." Angus leans back in the booth and waits for responses.
Florin Jadenth Wednesday August 11th, 2004 8:50:01 PM
Florin looks to Syr and smiles, patting the man's shoulder gently before moving his hand back, "Yeah, I will consider that before hiring anyone. I hope this night becomes more pleasant then the funeral ended up being and I thank you for the support in all this Syr. Your a good friend."
Florin sips the light wine he has ordered and is about to get a bite of the food he ordered when Happy comes and speaks of a meeting with Jonas. Florin almost drops his fork when he hears this and looks to the others before looking to Happy, "May I give you a reply after bit Happy. I wish to speak to my friends before deciding on the matter."
Florin looks to the others and sighs gently, "I know we want revenge Angus but just because we meet does not mean we will agree to their terms or it is even a trap of some type. I plan to agree to the meeting but wish to ask my friends here for a couple favors." Florin glances to Syr, "Syr, I would like you to be at the meeting with me. The others I would like to be here at the GG, surely there is someplace you all can be hidden. This is with the exception of Wynn." Florin looks to Wynn and smiles, "You have been really handy with your disguises. Can you take the form of a guard? I was thinking that after the the anvil heart showup that you might beable to change to look like a guard of the Floating City and come into the GG. This should make the anvil heart second guess a attack here atleast alittle."
Florin looks to Syr and the others, meeting each persons gaze and holding it a moment, "This might be our one chance of getting Jonas in the open and in our grasp without being in a thieves nest. I don't want to start a fight in the GG but if left to it there will be no choice and I figure even Happy is aware of that." Florin now sips his wine lightly and awaits replies from the others and also thinking of when he was to meet his sister, father Dremond and meet up with Gordo.
Lang Wednesday August 11th, 2004 9:53:49 PM
Sounds like a plan. Maybe Sunshine and I can take a position outside near the front door and run down anyone who tries to escape.
Wynn Brightsong d20+16=24 d20+6=17 Wednesday August 11th, 2004 10:30:55 PM
Wynn nods at Florin's suggestion "I shall remain incognito outside the Giggling Ghost, and when the Anvil Hearts show themselves I shall enter disguised as an officer of the guard as you ask. Can you describe this Jonas for me? The only members of the Anvil Hearts I have seen are those that intruded at the funeral."
Wynn sips on a beer as the conversation and planning continue.
The bard will slip out of the inn when it is time and take up station where he can observe the entrance to the Giggling Ghost[Spot=17]. He will be disguised as one of the many vagrants that panhandle for spare change on the street. [Disguise = 24].
Xenia d20+11=15 d20+12=26 d20+15=32 d20+11=18 Wednesday August 11th, 2004 11:25:32 PM
Xenia has a funny feeling. It's kind of like second guessing herself. Still, she's got this nagging question about the Anvil Hearts so she decides to talk to Tionel. "Um, Tionel, I've got this funny feeling. Um, this question that's kind of bothering me. What if it's not really the Anvil Hearts that set the fire? What if they are just riding on someone else's coat tails? You know, taking credit for something they didn't do?" Xenia fiddles with the end of her pony tail, before making eye contact with the thin elf. "I just don't see Jonas trying to make peace if his gang really did do the murders, and much as I'd like to wump the Hearts, it would kill me to let the real culprits go."
Before Fargas arrives, the half-elf adjusts her nifty new lenses, and disappears into the shadows the better to sneak and peek. She has a worried little look when Wynn leaves, but then gets down to the task at hand.

Tionel Wednesday August 11th, 2004 11:38:33 PM
"I know, I know, Xenia, you might be right. And we can never be sure...but nonetheless, he did threaten, and there is evidence against him, and until he answers the charges, at least, or he stops trying to kill us, we must pursue him." (Sorry, can't post much today.
Syr Thursday August 12th, 2004 4:23:00 AM
Syr looks at Florin surprised, "Me? You want me to sit in? Is it my good looks or sparkling personality that you think would help?" Giving the paladin a sardonic smile he nods, "Of course, I don't plan on saying much as I get a bit too hot tempered at times though."
"Umm guys, I know this is sudden but I REALLY want to find out more about the hearts and we will miss the great opportunity if all we do is talk to them."
Looking at the others, he peers around them suspiciously for eavedroppers before continuing. In a murmur so that all have to lean in to hear, "Okay, how about this strategy. Let me know if it's too over the top."
Looking at Wynn, "Go with the disguise, I like that. In addition, can you fix up Xenia as the old matron once again? I'll elaborate on that in a bit."
Shifting his gaze to Angus, "I know it's a shame to hide her beauty but can you cast an invisible spell on Xenia just prior to the meeting. How long is it good for?"
Next in the tight circle is Tionel, "Your charm thingie, can you cast it without the target being aware it was cast?"
Scratching Sunshine on the head, "You and this one will be the fake tail to through Fargus off."
Peering around at the the group, "Okay, let's see if I can get this straight so that everyone understands where I am going..." Taking a deep breath he quickly spits out a plan, "Wynn and Xenia are disguised, Xenia is invisible to boot. Wynn is a guardsman sitting near the door. Florin and I meet with this Fargus scum and talk. If Florin gives Tionel a signal such as a yawn then Tionel attempts to charm him and we get information that way. No matter what happens at the meeting, Xenia followed by Lang and Sunshine trail him. Lang, I'm sure he knows that we might follow him. I want you to get caught following him and then lose him. That will give him a sense of security so that our real tail, Xenia, can follow him with ease. Viola, we find Jonas!"
Looking over at Xenia, "Milady, the risk is yours so we all understand if you are hesitant?"
His speach stumbles to a halt, lookingly slightly embarrassed, "What do ya'll think? Is it too much?"
Wynn Brightsong d20+8=21 Thursday August 12th, 2004 8:52:25 AM
"Syr, my friend" the bard replies, "you have this delightful sneaky streak in you." Wynn give Syr'r arm a gentle cuff. "I would be happy to make over Xenia again. Florin, is there any magic at your disposal that will allow us to keep track of Xenia?"
Wynn will re-arrange Xenia's hair and add some powder to change it's color. "A bit of stuffing here...and a bit of padding there.. and..oops, sorry about that Xenia." In no time the elderly and plumper Alexandria is ready to go. [Disguise =21]
Xenia Thursday August 12th, 2004 9:01:50 AM
As she prepares to blend into the shadows, Xenia listens to Syr's plan. Eyes sparkling in excitement, she halts her preparations. "You bet!" she agrees.
The half elf enjoys the attention from Wynn, but she gives him a cuff when his hands wander where they shouldn't.
Hold on a second (DM MikeK) Thursday August 12th, 2004 9:12:12 AM
Happy takes in the various conversations with a worried look. Finally, he breaks in.
"My friends, I've played middleman in talks before, and I may have left out some things I assumed you knew. This Fargas wants me to talk to you and see if you agree to a meeting with Jonas. He's coming to talk to me to see what you said - if you agreed and where and when you wanted to meet.
I don't think Fargas wants to see you, and I don't know what he'll do if he does. I'm not saying don't follow him, but if Florin and Syr are sitting right here when he comes in, he might run off without talking."
Florin Jadenth Thursday August 12th, 2004 10:08:05 AM
Florin looks to everyone once Happy speaks and chuckles, "Thank you Happy and sorry I didn't think of that. Looks like this is lead bird stands alone."
Florin taps his fork on his plate, leaving his food alone as he thinks and does end up draining all his wine, "We need info and we can't pass up this chance." Florin looks to Happy and nods to the man, "I do not want to run the chance of your place damaged Happy. You can tell Fargas that I will meet with him or whoever and I will meet him in the flood lock area in the trash level...tomorrow just before dark on the trash level. Alone of course and I better not even feel like someone is watching."
Florin pushes his full plate back and looks to Happy, "Bring me some juice please Happy." Florin offers his glass to Happy inless Happy uses a new glass. Florin leans back in his seat now and closes his eyes in thought, "I'll meet alone....everyone else will need some way of being close and out of sight. The flood lock has one entrance and one exit. I hate to admit it but you all need to figure out how you plan to be close since I will have alot to handle I got a feeling."
Florin slips out of the booth for a moment and heads up to the room he uses in the GG and grabs his holy symbol which is on his necklace and comes back down. He moves back to the booth and sits down, running a finger over the holy symbol before taking a drink of the juice, "Let us hope that is Fargas or Jonas either one is the one to meet up that neither is over skilled if a fight breaks out. Never really thought me jumping over my head before till now."
Florin waits awhile and then tries to get Syr off to the side and hands the holy symbol and necklace it's attached to to his friend, "Syr, I know it's only a holy symbol to you but this is something special to me. It is a link of sorts to Domi and a leaning post for me at times. I want you to hang onto this just incase tomorrow something bad happens. Bralin was one of my closes friends in the group and since he has left I have looked to you for help and guidance. I know you'll take care of this if anything happens." Florin gives his friend a smile and a pat on the shoulder, clearly alittle worried but yet also curious about tomorrow.
After all this Florin spends time with the group, just normal chit chat and trying to have alittle fun.
Angus Thursday August 12th, 2004 7:02:25 PM
Angus waits for Happy to leave the table before continuing the discussion. In low tones he adds "We can not let Happy know too much about our plans as it may endanger him. Also that charm spell works two ways."
Angus turns to Syr "Seems like plans have changed, but for future information I can make someone invisible for 5 minutes."
Angus looks Florin up and down "I know you are tough Florin, but you can not go down to the trash level for a meeting all by yourself. It is way too dangerous. We have to be in the area."
Angus says to the group as a whole "It is apparent that some of our group can disguise themselves well and also hide in the surroundings." Angus points to Wynn, Xenia, and Syr. "Others of us may be better off hidden from view in other ways, rooftops, maybe, especially those of us with ranged weapons." Angus points to Lang and himself. "Angus looks to Tionel and say " I am unsure how well a druid can hide in a city or if you have other suggestions or skills we may not know of. Also what is the range of your charm spell?"
Angus looks each person at the table in the eye. "This will get very interesting for all of us on the trash level tomorrow, any other thoughts or stratagies?"
OOC: How much space is there between levels in the floating city? What is the average distance between rooftops and the bottom of the next level?
Syr Friday August 13th, 2004 4:13:28 AM
As Happy speaks, he looks crestfallen. He slumps his shoulders, "Well, let's toss that plan out the window."
A frown crosses the elf's face as he receives the holy symbol from Florin, "Are you sure? I mean, why not wear it anyway?"
Peering at Angus and Tionel, "What do you mean by 'two ways'?"
Planning Continues (Dm MikeK) Friday August 13th, 2004 1:30:42 PM
"Sunset tomorrow in the flooding lock. OK, I'll tell him," Happy responds.
Taking the glass, he gives the group an understanding look. He's been a bartender far too long not to realize when someone is trying to get rid of him.
"You folks be careful," he says, and he launches himself toward another table of customers.
This leaves the group free to talk amongst themselves. It also gives them a good day and a half before the meeting time.
Tionel Saturday August 14th, 2004 4:13:13 PM
Tionel sits back, shrugging slightly. "You know, this is all so important, yet at the same time I miss going off on a real adventure. That's what first happened for this group...going to unknown places, doing cool things... I sorta yearn for running out and doing some really weird task, without worrying about the consequences. Know what I mean? It reminds me of a poem... "But we still have to finish this whole problem before we can continue on, I fear."
Xenia Sunday August 15th, 2004 9:23:36 AM
The rogue reclaims her seat at the table and undoes the 'do started by Wynn. She listens as the other's suggest strategies. Looking at Syr and Florin out of the corner of her eyes, Xenia answers Tionel in a low voice, "um, I hear you, there." She adds, just a little louder "this meeting with Jonas should go ahead. Even if we don't like the idea of a truce, agreeing to it might keep the peace for a while, you know ensure the safety of the orphans, while we continue our enquiries?"
Florin Jadenth Sunday August 15th, 2004 2:37:49 PM
Florin looks to Syr and smiles as he speaks to him, "That might be true Syr my friend but if anything happens I would prefer such a item does not fall into the hands of those rogues. The temple, the faith, all of it is some special to me and I hate to know that something special falls into the hands of someone like Jonas. Also I know you and the others would give the holy symbol to the temple if anything happened." Florin smiles and winks, "Not saying anything will happen now, but better careful then sorry on this matter."
Florin looks to the others now and nods, "I will meet with them alone and you all will have to stay out of sight and hidden. If anything happens then I'm sure you all will know about it. If nothing else I can see about getting a thunderstone to signal all of you if needed. The blast of it inside the lock should cause some problems for the anvil heart and me of course but you all will be there to help shortly after that."
Florin smiles to everyone and nods now, "I guess our plans are as well laid out as we can get them for now. We all should get about any preperation, etc that we need to do." Florin smiles as he thinks, "An I need to see someone about renting a house yet. Anyone wish to come with me?"
(OOC:MikeK, just a small few things here to try and help you out abit. If Florin can gather the people he will see Gordo about adopting a kid and have Florin's sister and also would like his teacher who trained him to be a paladin of Domi with him. Florin first will be looking into renting a house. Lastly and if there is enough time and he is able Florin will speak to his teacher about possible recommendations for a teacher/bodyguard to train the kid Florin plans to adopt. Hope this helps and sorry for the work load. :).)
Sunshine (Justin Webber) Sunday August 15th, 2004 2:39:15 PM
Sunshine has been lazy and lays near Lang if possible. He is enjoying this down time but will probably be showing how antsy he is to get out and get to action again.
Wynn Brightsong Sunday August 15th, 2004 5:16:04 PM
"The thunderstone is a wise idea. It may be difficult to hide nearby and a loud signal will be important. In the future we should set up any meetings like this in as public a place as possible. It will be easier to hide among a crowd, and any potential assailant will think twice in a crowd of people."
"Is there any chance that this meeting is just a ruse to lure us away? Perhaps we should warn Gordo to be on his guard" the bard muses.
Angus Sunday August 15th, 2004 6:00:20 PM
Angus is aghast at Tionel's suggestion of leaving to go adventuring. "Tionel, I am shocked at the suggestion. All of us are attempting to take care of the orphans be riding the world of the gang scum and you want to go adventuring!! Gordo has taken on the orphans full time, Florin will be adopting one. And I want them wiped off the face of the wold for what they have done to the orphans, Mamma, and the orphanage."
ANgus is quite and sulking for several minutes. " I agree with Wynn, we must choose our meeting points better in the future. In this case at least some can be disguised, hidden or on rooptops nearby. The thunderstone is a wonderful idea."
Lang Sunday August 15th, 2004 8:40:04 PM
"Florin, we will be close. No one will escape this time unless we want them too. Sunshine and my bow will make sure of that."
"What do we want to do tomorrow as we are not meeting the anvil hearts until sunset?"
Syr Monday August 16th, 2004 1:46:14 AM
Syr does a double take when Tionel talks about adventuring, "You? I thought you of all people loved the city and talking to the people? Now you say you miss the wilds?"
Giving Florin a solid punch to the shoulder, "You talk like you are going to die. Geez, think more positive. Let's assume the meeting goes off with no problems, do we still want to trail these guys? Should we plan for that?"
Nodding at the the big paladin, "I'll join you, let's take care of these errands and pick up a Thunderstone?"
House Hunters (DM MikeK) Monday August 16th, 2004 9:52:56 AM
The meeting more or less breaks up and everyone takes off for the afternoon.
Florin and Syr head up to the Gold Level and stop in at the Trade House. Standing next to the Temple of Ffloy, the Trade House is a large, three story building. Signs inside helpfully point out where to go to purchase particular categories of items such as 'foodstuffs', 'precious metals', 'jewelry', and 'real estate'. The two head up to the second floor and find a jovial halfling who is more than happy to help the paladin find an apartment at a reasonable price.
The halfling, named Cleemalus Bottomburr, has several apartment properties on the Barracks Level ranging in rental fees from 300 to 500 gp per month. Properties on the Merchant Level run about 100gp more.
The paladin is also set up to meet with Gordo tomorrow morning, with his sister and mentor, to discuss adopting a 'child' (as Gordo puts it). The monk seems a bit put off by Florin's 'kid' reference.
Later, in the early evening, a messenger from Happy stops by the apartments to relay that Jonas agrees to the meeting time and place.
OOC - Florin must go to the catacombs to purchase the Thunderstone. It's a bit backed up over there, so even if you don't get it in real time, I will assume he bought it prior to the meeting. But you still gotta go get in line.
Angus Monday August 16th, 2004 1:09:19 PM
Angus goes back to the apartments an lounges around. With Syr and Florin out house shopping together, Angus talks with those still at the apartments about the coming meeting. "We can not let Florin go down to meet that scum Jonas alone. We have to give him support and backup. I am thinking that I can survey the scene from a nearby rooftop. I believe that others can remain hidden or disguised in other ways. Any one want to join me on a nearby rooftop? Does anyone have any other ideas for cover? Do we have acess to a hay wagon in which to hide some of our more obvious friends?"
Wynn Brightsong Monday August 16th, 2004 8:17:00 PM
The bard thinks matters through in response to Angus' remarks about backing up Florin. "If we get there early I can scale get up on a roof and hide. If Florin gets in trouble I will simply jump down and assist him. The boots of feather fall will slow my descent. I just hope I don't end up seeing my meal for a second time in one day!"
Xenia d20+15=28 Monday August 16th, 2004 10:02:43 PM
Xenia trails behind the group keeping a look-out for any nosey types who might be paying the group too much attention (Search=28).
Back at the apartment, she keeps her own counsel as she listens to the others while brewing up a pot of kaffee. After pouring a cup for herself, she locates the one with the dancing halflings on it. The one she picked out for Wynn. Grimacing at the grey-green ring formed on the bottom, she gives it a scrub, then fills it with the aromatic brew.
Offering the cup to the bard, she perches on the arm of his chair and listens to the others plan a course of action.
Florin Jadenth Monday August 16th, 2004 10:50:43 PM
Florin listens to what is said about the rental places in each area and thinks a moment before speaking, "I'm wondering good sir, what type of furnishings do the places come with? I'm just trying to figure out how much more money I might need to put in to furnish the place nicely. Also Can you give me a idea on how big either place would be please." Florin smiles and shrugs, "Hope I'm not asking for to much, just want to know what I will be buying before deciding to quickly."
Florin looks to Syr and shrugs, "Thanks for coming also Syr, I figured someone from the group maybe of some help in this matter."
Florin listens now to whatever the halfling has to say before making his final decision.
(OOC:I'm cashing in my voucher and buying the thunderstone also in the catacombs. I plan to have Florin rent one of the more expenive houses on the merchant level. I figure the mre expenive are bigger, etc but will know more on your replies. Also I was wondering if you might beable to give me a aprox price on a bodyguard/teacher or if need be seperate hiring prices.)
Lang Monday August 16th, 2004 11:13:44 PM
Lang goes back to the apartment with Sunshine. He goes to his room and drops his belongings on his side of the room. Lang will then let Sunshine out into the garden and return to the common room and listen in on the conversation.
"I agree Angus, we can not let Florin meet Jonas alone. We all need to be close to protect each other. We do not want another meeting like the last one. Sunshine and I will be able to hide once shadows start forming from sunset."
"What do you think is meant of Jonas getting tired of us both getting in each other's way?"
Syr Tuesday August 17th, 2004 4:35:53 AM
Not knowing much about real estate the elf tries not to blanch when the halfling quotes 500gp. Whispering to the paladin while Cleemalus' back is turned, "I'm just along for moral support. Florin, you'll need at least 3 bedrooms right?"
Tionel Tuesday August 17th, 2004 5:26:36 AM
Tionel shrugs. "I guess you're right... Maybe I'm saying, I yearn for the carelessness of an adventure, not the actual stomping through a swamp or nature. I want people to be happy again, to smile and not be angry or sad. Anyways, I'll keep away from it. I'm too recognizable, and I'll just keep watch like a house or so away, just in case more ruffians come."
Plans (DM MikeK) Tuesday August 17th, 2004 10:03:27 AM [Florin - I'm going to finish the house and trainer bartering via email]
Florin and Syr satisfactorily finish up at the Trade House, with Florin getting a good sized apartment on the Merchant Level, along with a tutor/bodyguard to go with the place. He happily agrees to a price that makes Syr's mouth fall open in astonishment.
The two head back to the apartments after stopping by Gordo's Orphanage. That place is hotel like in appearance with a large common room. The entrance is manned by two armed guards sporting gold and blue livery. Syr notes the crest on their surcoats matches that of Lady Firiona.
Gordo and Florin agree to a mid morning meeting the next day.
Back at the apartments, the group discusses, among other things, strategy for guarding Florin's back. Everyone is familiar with the layout of the flood lock and its surroundings. There is a one hundred foot square, mostly empty courtyard before the flood lock door. It is unlit, and quite dark. Small piles of debris are strewn about the courtyard. A stone wall (from floor to ceiling) surrounds the courtyard, with three 10' wide arches providing access from the north, west, and south sides. The flood lock door is in the east. The group has always entered the courtyard from the south, via a small alley. No one has looked at the other two archways. However, the alley does continue west and then bends northward, following the courtyard wall, so it is reasonable to assume the west side arch empties into the same alley. Buildings sit on the other side of the poorly lit alley. All have doors leading into the alley. The party is aware of a least two doors, one directly across from the south arch, and one a little further west of it.
Angus Tuesday August 17th, 2004 1:55:53 PM
Angus thinks to himself, we are going into enemy territory and they know the ground much better than us....
Angus speaks up to those at the apartments. "How about we go and check out Florin's meeting site for possible places to hide and for potential ambush spots, for us and them. Who is with me? I will not go down to the trash level by myself at least not now adays."
Angus stands and heads for the door, but turns to see who is following "We will just make a quick run down and report back to Florin and Syr when they return from house shopping."
Florin Jadenth Tuesday August 17th, 2004 8:11:55 PM
Florin walks back to the apartment with Syr and smiles as he does, "Thanks for coming with me Syr."
At the apartment Florin looks to the others and listens to what is said and nods, "We all probably should go down and take a look around before tomorrow night."
Sunshine (Justin Webber) Tuesday August 17th, 2004 8:12:57 PM
Sunshine relaxes at Lang's feet. He does on the way back to the apartment take a small detour in the sense of finding a nice spot to go to the bathroom.
Lang Tuesday August 17th, 2004 10:00:38 PM
"Sunshine and I will help scout out the meeting place with whoever goes."
"Maybe I can find a comfy spot to hole up with my bow and also be able to keep a good eye on the surrounding area."
Wynn Brightsong Tuesday August 17th, 2004 10:55:48 PM
"I'll come with you Angus", the bard replies. "There is comfort to be found on familiar ground". Wynn downs the last of Xenia's brew and straps his longsword to his waist. "Are you joining us Xenia?"
Xenia Tuesday August 17th, 2004 11:27:16 PM
From under lowered lashes, the rogue watches the bard prepare. She adjusts her own snug fitting leather garments, fastening and unfastening various buckles and inspecting seals. A small frown flickers across her face, as she wipes at the lenses of her goggles.
Hope he isn't getting all protective like, expecting me to stay back at the apartment? she wonders.
"I'll go a little ahead and recon the area" Xenia answers Wynn, "just try and keep up!"
Syr Wednesday August 18th, 2004 4:03:54 AM
The elf pats Florin on the back, "Let me know if you need some cash?"
Entering the apartment, Syr grins at Xenia's comment pleased to see her spirit back. "Well, no one is leaving me behind."
Scouting (DM MikeK) Wednesday August 18th, 2004 9:13:04 AM
Having proposed a meeting in the flood lock, our heroes decide to head on down to the Trash Level and determine just what it is they've gotten themselves into.
As usual, the Trash Level is a dim, dank, gloomy, depressing, smelly place. The group stays together and on the main roads, and nobody bothers them.
Those trying to observe such things (Spot 12), will note the absence of those little white flowers that got them sent off for the cave last week.
Entering a small alley off of Dead Man's Road, the group weaves around the buildings until they get into the alley facing the southern entrance of courtyard. A quick trip around the alley confirms it leads to all the archways. Various doors from the buildings on the other side of the alley open onto it. All the buildings have barred windows on the second floor. The wall of the courtyard extends all the way to the ceiling, and therefore its interior cannot be observed by the buildings. The alley is dimly lit, the courtyard is not lit at all. No other streets intersect with the alleyway.
Map is coming
Angus Wednesday August 18th, 2004 10:07:58 AM
Angus feels a little better about having some knowledge of the ground on which they may be fighting, but not much.
"The area is very constrained for escape or for supporting Florin." Angus tells the group and sounds very concerned.
"We may have to wait a distance away and come running at the sound of the thunderstone? It looks very easy to block our support route for Florin also. I think it is a very good idea to have our stealthy members find nice spots in the shadows and the rest of us wait farther away on the main road. What does everyone think?" Angus waits for an answer from the group.
Florin Jadenth d20+2=21 Wednesday August 18th, 2004 11:14:07 AM
Florin looks around the area, evidently he is more curious of the area now and looks over the deatils carefully as he does.
Hear Angus's comment Florin thinks and finally comments, "Anybody hiding can't be to close since the anvil heart leader will break and run if your spotted at all." Florin thinks a moment and chews his lip, "Your invisiblity spell might work but if the anvil heart has a means of seeing invisible objects that will be a problem also, plus we can't have the spell where off half way into the talks."
Florin looks to everyone and nods, "I thank all of you for your concern but since I agreed and I also picked a rather hard place for you all to help out then you all will have to be listening for the thunderstone incase of troubles and I will just have to hold my own till you guys can help." Florin pats Angus's shoulder, "I will not fall so easily and some of the anvil heart will go with me in any case if any fight starts."
Tionel Thursday August 19th, 2004 12:07:11 AM
"I'll be around...trust me, you won't see me." The elf nods to the others, and heads back the way they came, turning an alley quickly.
Xenia d20+11=15 d20+15=26 d20+15=22 d20+11=25 Thursday August 19th, 2004 1:26:40 AM
The rogue sighs wearily at Florin's comments, wondering if the paladin has a death wish.
Lightly placing a gloved hand on the young man's arm, Xenia whisper, "Flo, don't be a martyr. After all you're adopting a kid, and all that." Raising her voice a little, she continues, "you don't have to do this alone. We're here for you!"
As the half-elf finds a spot from which to observe, unobserved, she sighs again wondering at what was happening to her friend.

Syr Thursday August 19th, 2004 2:39:40 AM
Sizing up the situation he comments, "I'll stay far out of the way on the ground level. If I hear the Thunderstone, I'll come running. Should we invite the guard?"
The elf quickly follows after Tionel. Assuming he catches up, he looks around the area for any eavesdroppers before hurridly whispering, "If you will be around then be careful, we need to keep a watch on Florin. The day of mother's funeral, I saw him enter the Black Thorn Inn and stay inside for a while. Something just doesn't sit right with that." Saying no more he pauses before rejoining the rest of the group.
Wynn Brightsong d20+3=19 Thursday August 19th, 2004 7:36:45 AM
Wynn scours the area for a place to hide[19]. If possible he will select a space above the street level from which to scan the surroundings and if neccessary jump down in a hurry. Once he has a site selected he will join the others and let them know where he will be situated.
More planning (DM MikeK) Thursday August 19th, 2004 9:32:25 AM
Most of the group sets about searching the are for good places to hide.
Xenia notes scattered piles of refuse and decaying furniture lying about the alleyway and the courtyard itself. Combined with the darkness, they would likely provide pretty decent concealment. It is also possible to burrow under the trash in some places, if the stench doesn't become overwhelming.
Syr realizes that the main street is an awful long way from the other side of the flooding lock, and at least four walls are between as well. Odds are, no one on the street would hear even a thunderstone set off in the flooding lock. Seeing Tionel take off, the monk pursues, but is unable to locate his fellow elf. The druid seems to have disappeared into thin air.
Wynn moves to investigate the upper floors of Building #3, only to find the lower floors are occupied. No sooner does he step through the doorway than he is confronted by a broom wielding human woman. The sinewy, bony matron, who in Wynn's estimation is pushing sixty or seventy years of age, screeches at the bard while waving her broom menacingly "Whachu doin' in MY house? Git! Giton wicha! Don want no nasty biznes in here!"
Please note the planned meet is not scheduled to occur for another 28 hours or so.
Angus Thursday August 19th, 2004 1:19:09 PM
Angus looks around " This will be hard to support Florin. I say we head back and get prepared. We all just may want to attend the meeting with Florin and give up any pretence of hiding."
Angus heads back to the apartments.
Lang Thursday August 19th, 2004 9:24:16 PM
"With all the debris in the courtyard, Sunshine and I should be able to hide fairly easily. All of the courtyard is within short range of my bow from any position I take."
"Does anyone have idea on how early are we going to go back and get setup? I would imagine that the Anvil Hearts will have some preparation also. The courtyard is not that big or populated that we will not bump into them if they plan the same thing. What do we do if that happens?"
"Florin do we attack at first sight or wait until they make the first strike?"
"Angus, we could all go with Florin to the courtyard and then let him proceed alone into the lock. Our presence will be known and Florin will be alone for the meeting."
Florin Jadenth Thursday August 19th, 2004 10:04:37 PM
Florin smiles at the concern Xenia shows and winks to her, "No worries Xenia. I can hold my own long enough and I lay faith in all my friends here."
Florin looks to Angus and shakes his head, "We can't afford Jonas seeing more then me and running. If we truely want the information that he might give up then we will have to take the risk. I was elected leader and simply ask we all lay faith in each other and we all know the others abilties, even Lang and Wynn have a idea on how well we can handle ourselves."
Florin looks to everyone and begins to walk with the group back to the apartments, "I can fall back to the flood lock entrance, surely the sewer pipe will give them less room to get to me and it will be easier to defend." Florin grins and winks, "Anyway, if all else fails I can break through their ranks with Ajax if I need. He will come if I need him."
Florin clearly is worried about this meeting but yet has everything set clear in his mind and looks to the road ahead as he speaks again, "I rented a house near the wall of the city and will be going to look it over today and also see how the furniture has come along on being delivered. I will also need to see if the bodyguard/teacher is waiting there and so since he will be a live in person."
(MikeK: My email messedup so just to let you know Florin will pay the price for the teacher/bodyguard you mentioned in email and also pay the 75gps for the furnishings.)
Sunshine (Justin Webber) Thursday August 19th, 2004 10:07:14 PM
Sunshine is happy to be out and about and is very energetic as he feels that soon some excitement will be coming up. Sunshine shows that he is excited by running around the courtyard area and sniffs things. He once again finds a cat and takes off after it, chasing it out of the courtyard area before returning to Lang, looking all proud of his acomplishment as he does.
Xenia d20+15=17 Thursday August 19th, 2004 10:27:22 PM
Despite his show of bravado, Xenia is still worried about the paladin. As the party makes it's way back towards the apartments, she pokes at the rubbish piles with her short sword, keeping an eye open for any trinkets that might have been swept up with the trash. (Search=17)
Wynn Brightsong Thursday August 19th, 2004 11:48:22 PM
Undeterred by his encounter with the gaunt broom-wielding woman, Wynn continues his attempts to find access to the upper floors of one of the surrounding buildings. If he does, he will mark the entrance with a small treble clef in chalk before returning to the apartment with the rest of the party.
Tionel Friday August 20th, 2004 2:33:27 AM
Unseen by the others, Tionel makes a quick tour of the area, then, realizing there's much time to be had before the meeting, returns to a pub nearby. (We have 28 hours? Well, can we all agree to skip to the next day?)
Fast Forward (Dm MikeK) Friday August 20th, 2004 10:01:25 AM
Wynn finds Building #6 is unoccupied, and he can get to a window in the northwest corner. This will provide a decent view of the south and west arches into the courtyard. He will not be able to see into the courtyard itself, and there is no place in the courtyard to get above ground level.
Having sufficiently checked the place out, the party returns to their apartments.
Anticipation makes the night and following day pass swiftly. Florin leaves and just as quickly returns from his meeting with Gordo. More email
All too soon, it is late afternoon of the next day, mere hours until the proposed meeting with Jonas.
Angus Saturday August 21st, 2004 6:47:30 AM
Back at the apartments later that night, Angus discusses the situation with the group. "If Florin has his heart set on meeting the gang alone and wants to keep the rest of us at a safe distance, I will not go against his wishes. I do think that he is taking a great risk." Angus lets out an exasperated sigh, but continues.
"I think our best course of action then is to support him from the shadows and fron the building that Wynn found. Land and I have distance capabilities from the second story window, but I think it best it trouble happens that anyone in the abandoned structure come to Florin's aid. Those that can find hidding spots should, but maybe not directly in the courtyard as it may be searched."
Angus looks to Tionel "It might be helpful to know what you plan for your saftey and all of ours. How far away will you be and what capabilities you are brining to the table? Your last comments before disappearing were very cryptic on how you were going to support Florin."
Angus now address Wynn "excellent job on finding the structure. How long do you think it will take to get from the building to the courtyard if the meeting goes badly?"
Florin Jadenth Saturday August 21st, 2004 7:58:36 PM
Florin comes back from the meeting with Gordo and also his mentor and sister. He is happy about the meeting though and greets everyone as he ponders over the next meeting he will be having soon.
Florin looks to everyone and smiles, "Everyone knows what they have to do and everything so lets go everyone." Florin looks to Syr and nods to him, "Let us hope this meeting goes well and possibly we can end this without a fight for the moment anyway. I know we all have a deep hate for the anvil heart and what they did but if we can make peace with them for atleast the moment it will give us time to gather more info and maybe they will drop their guard enough for us to find out where they are hiding."
Florin looks to everyone now and makes one more comment before heading out, "If a fight breaks out we need atleast one anvil heart alive and able to talk so we can find the rats nest. No matter what happens at this meeting you all must remember we need one alive if a fight breaks out." Florin nods to everyone and now heads out.
(OOC:Keeping my post short and sweet here. I'm just a quessing the info on the adoption was good, no email yet.)
Wynn Brightsong d20+16=25 d20+6=10 Sunday August 22nd, 2004 11:28:50 AM
"The problem with this building or any of the buildings is that we still cannot see inside the courtyard" the bard scratched his head as he thinks, "the upper windows are barred so unless we can loosen them in advance we will have to use the stairs to get down. I figure it will take at least 12 seconds to get down the stairs and another 12 seconds to get out the door and into the courtyard. That assumes that nothing gets in our way. I don't think we should all be in the same building where we might be trapped. If we can pry the bars loose, I can jump down to the street and be that much quicker to support Florin. The rest of you can stay downstairs by the door and ready to charge. I also think we should spread out so that we can cover all three of the archways to the courtyard."
Once Florin gives the word, Wynn puts on his Hat of disguise and assumes the guise of one of the old women that can be found picking through the trash piles below [ Disguise=25]. "There is no point to being discovered before we even get there." he announces. The half-elf will move 50-100 feet in front of the group keeping his eyes open for anything suspicious[Spot=10].
Xenia d20+11=20 Sunday August 22nd, 2004 7:31:17 PM
Since Florin seems dead set on going to the rendez-vous alone, Xenia gives up trying to convince him otherwise. Instead, she steals herself for what she knows must surely come...hidding out in one of the trash heaps.
A little reluctantly she closes in on Wynn and asks, if he'll make her over. "Like a woman down and out on her luck, kinda' like you did to yourself before the last fight, you know, like a wino?" she says.
If Wynn doesn't have the time, she'll take her luck in a trash heap.

Lang Sunday August 22nd, 2004 9:56:13 PM
Lang and Sunshine will head out with Angus. "Angus, I do not think the building is a good place for us. We will do better closer to the lock. We should try to get close enough to where we think we can hear the thundertone. If we do not hear it then we should enter the courtyard after a reasonable amount of time."
Syr Monday August 23rd, 2004 3:45:43 AM
Sighing he follows Angus, "I wish that I had more time to scout this place out. As it is, whatever you think is best, I'll be willing to go with."
The elf gives Florin a nod of farewell and pats him on the back once.
Tionel d20+7=16 Monday August 23rd, 2004 5:03:11 AM
(Some problems with the roller and then my clicker resetting?) "Oh, I just have some connections with animal friends. Sunshine? Here boy..." Tionel calls the dog over and proceeds to totally spoil it as only a druid or ranger can. First he lets him get used to the thin elf, talking in a soothing voice and letting it smell his hand. Then, he proceeds to give him a good scratching and petting, and follows it up with a bit of playing. He even gives a few yips and friendly little barks while doing so...acting the part of a big friendly puppy. After familiarizing himself with the dog, he then takes him off to the garden to show him some of his friends by himself. That way, when the time is coming, there's a black crow on the building overlooking the intersection, pecking and cleaning her feathers from time to time. Meanwhile, a gray squirrel is on the roof overlooking the alley behind the building, protectively curled up around and occasionally munching on some nuts he was given for this job. And sitting boredly near Florin himself is an extremely well-groomed pure-white cat with aristocratic pretensions. Whenever Sunshine attempts to chase the cat, it displays the most utterly sincere disdain.
Time to go (DM MikeK) Monday August 23rd, 2004 10:54:09 AM
Having made their plans and preparations, the party heads down to the Trash Level for their meeing.
OK, I need a very clear picture of where people are, when they got there, and what they're doing - especially if its something weird involving cats, squirrels, and ravens.
The meeting is set for dusk. Please give me a timeline (ie - so many minutes before dusk) for what you're doing. Also - the odds of a squirrel or raven showing up on the Trash Level is pretty low. Rats, cats, and wild dogs would be good.
Also, it might be an extremely good idea for everyone to keep up with their posts over the next couple of weeks.....
Florin Jadenth d20+2=17 Monday August 23rd, 2004 9:04:43 PM
Florin plans to show up for the meeting about 20 mins early to make sure that there is no movements or traps being made for the meeting bu the anvil heart.
He keeps his eyes open as he looks around the courtyard and awaits to see what happens. He also tightens the buckles on his armor and tests his sword to make sure it will pull easily. Lastly he leaves his helmet vizor up so he can see okay for the moment. (Spot:17)
Sunshine (Justin Webber) Monday August 23rd, 2004 9:05:54 PM
Sunshine enjoys the attention from Tionel and follows him out to the garden as he looks back to Lang of course, seeking permission since Lang is Sunshine's master.
Wynn Brightsong d20+3=14 d20+3=20 d20+6=10 Monday August 23rd, 2004 9:50:07 PM
Wynn hurredly helps Xenia, change her appearance [Disguise=10] before setting out for the trash level himself. In disguise as a charwoman [disguise =25 from previous post], he makes his way to the trash level approximately 1 hour before the agreed upon time. The bard keeps an open eye for anything or anyone suspicious [Spot=10 from last post].
Once he arrives at the unnoccupied building [#6] he carefully searches it for any signs of the Anvil Hearts and examines the upper floor windows to see if they are barred, and if any bars can be removed [Search=14].
If the upper floor provides a reasonable escape route, Wynn will station himself in the shadows behind the window and keep an eye on the archways. Otherwise he will stay on the main floor and position himself behind the door, ready to spring out if needed. [Hide = 20]
Either way, the bard will jam a stone between the door and the frame to stop it from being pulled closed all the way.
Xenia d20+1=15 d20+15=23 d20+11=23 Monday August 23rd, 2004 10:37:23 PM
"I like your idea," Xenia says, bumping the bard with her shoulder and a smile. "Cover all the arches. I'll take the southern one."
"And maybe one of us should cover the door to the Lock itself. I mean, you know, go in and wait.
She stands still as Wynn quickly makes her over. Then, before he leaves, she gives him a quick peck on the cheek. "Good hunting," she whispers with a wink.
Older and overweight, with the haversack under her clothing looking like a hump, Xenia catches Florin before he leaves as well. The rogue worries her dark lower lip with white teeth. "Florin," the half-elven girl starts, "don't ... don't get yourself ... too killed or anything. 'k? Watch out. We care for you. Um, I care for you." And she reaches up on tip-toes and places a kiss on the Paladin's cheek as well.
Following at about 500 feet behind Florin, Xenia hobbles along in the shadows. Occasionally, she pokes around in piles of garbage, picking up bits and pieces and sniffing at them. The dark rogue uses these moments to surreptitiously scan the area for suspicious characters both on the street and lurking in windows.
Entering the alley from the south, (Next to Building 7) the rogue retains her pose as an old homeless woman. She continues up the alley way, keeping to the darkness of the wall as closely as possible. She turns the corner, and moves past the southern arch using a sway of her bowed head to get a look inside. Then Xenia finally squats in the corner with a view to both the north and the east. Taking what cover she can from the trash strewn alley, the disguised rogue pulls part of a ration from under her baggy clothing, and, despite her lack of appetite, begins to eat.

Syr Tuesday August 24th, 2004 3:44:34 AM
Syr follows along behind Angus and enters building #6. If the window isn't open, he quietly opens it slowly. Explaining to the sorceror, "If Florin gets in trouble, I can jump out and fall fairly slowly to the ground."
Tionel Tuesday August 24th, 2004 8:07:34 AM
A crow should not be too uncommon...well, perhaps in the Floating City in general it might, but surely it or pidgeons would be very easy to find. So, he sets his crow on top of the building but to the rear, just in case. The cat comes slightly dirtier and somewhat affronted at this upset to its dignity, but now looking like potentially a stray cat, or at least a house cat.
