Trellus gets an itch between his shoulder blades, as he watches Flea tie the ropes together.
"They've found us," he grates.

We are out of time he tells himself.

"Dudes, we're weaving to that glowing spot.
Mac, hold the rope.
Gry - go.
Flea - right behind him. Mac can hold you both.
Tishe' - cast that on me, Jake, and you. We're going down, in that order, right behind Flea without the rope.
Gilan, go down the rope when Flea gets off."

The cleric hands Mac a potion.
"Its a flying potion," he tells the taur. "Don't forget the rope."

Once Gry and Flea start down, Trellus is right behind them, clinging to the wall and holding his glowing holy symbol.

"Thanks Trellus!" he replies as he slips the potion into his pack.

With the ropes combined and ladies ready, Mac begins to steadily lower them down the hole [Strength Checks: 20,24], eventually seeing them fade into the darkness 60' down. [Spot check for trouble: 25 (Nat. 20!)]

"Gilan, while you're coverin' my back, do you think you and your gear come in at 'bout 200lb?"

"Gry and Flea goes down wit no light. Gry no need. Weez make bottom safe for pack, then yaz come down." Once the rope is ready and lowered, right before he goes down, Grymash will cast Protection from Evil on himself. He then shimmies down the rope (Climb check 18).

Grymash is in fact eager to taste some ant-piggie blood. He's always like the taste of roasted ants back in Rattledam. He wonders how these piggies will taste as well. you disgust me, grymash!

Gilan glances to Mac as he keeps an eye out for trouble. "I figure that I would weigh in at about that with all my gear." He watches as the others slip down the rope and shivers with an unbid recalled memory.

Flea has no trouble knitting the two ropes together in a sturdy knot.(Use Rope=22)

She follows after the barbarian, in the order dictated by Trellus. As they hang in the dark, carefully making their way down the hole she whispers, "I'm sorry 'bout what I said back there earlier. I know I can trust you to keep me safe, Gry."

The rogue cranes her neck to see what might be below them in the dim red light. (Spot=15, Search/Detect Traps=18)

First Grymash starts decending the rope, then Flea. Mac holds the rope with no problems, his huge muscles taking the strain easily. He isn't lowering them, so they will have to make a climb check. Grymash can see without problems but Flea finds it tougher going as she moves away from the light.

The others soon follow using magic to aid in the the climb down. Trellus does have his holy symbol that acts as a continual light. Is he holding it? Remember he needs his hands to climb.

When Trellus descends, Gilan and Mac are left in darkness.

ooc Remember, climbers move at 1/4 their normal speed and need a dc of 10 vs climb to make the climb. People with Spider climb move at a base rate of 20'

Everyone make their climb rolls and spot rolls please.

[Trellus cast Prot v Evil on Flea before her first descent. Duration 6 minutes. Should still be active]

Finding he can't climb while holding the holy symbol, Trellus tucks the small hammer in his belt. The light will be muffled somewhat, but its better than nothing.

The cleric keeps pace with Grymash and Flea, staying about 10' above the gnome. He peers down into the darkness as he climbs, looking for nasty ant treadles.

The small woman seriously looks at Jake's arm and strokes the muscles with one hand. She purses her lips, frowns, and then gives a small shake of her head.

"No, I think the spell is best if you swallow quickly", she says nodding judiciously.

And pulling a small spider from her pouch, she places a drop of bitumen on the arachnid while whispering arcane words. She then presents the wriggling spider to Jake and says "Eat up."

With the fighter swallowing the spider, the spell is complete.

The rogue clings to the rope, sliding a little and bracing her feet against the rough sides of the tunnel. She makes it about half way then completely looses her grasp of the rope. Tucking and rolling (Tumble=28) she attempts to minimize the damage of the fall.

(Listen18, Spot12. I dont know if we're doing 6 sec rounds yet. So Im doing multiple actions.)

Grymash mutters to himself, "gry hope spider give jake uh taste for ants!" He makes his way further down the rope.
(1/4 move=10ft. Climb checks: 21,20,12,20,19,19,18,13.)

When Grymash gets to the bottom, he will look around the area and listen for sound. (Spot21, Listen15, Survival13) He will test the floor with one foot while hanging on the rope to make sure its secure. Once down he will draw his weapon and wait for Flea to follow.

Gilan glances to the hole and then to Mac and swallows hard. "Hope that noone is under me when I start this." He moves towards the hole and grasps the rope in his hands before looking to the stone walls. "Wold Mother watch over me this day." He takes the time to loop his left foot into the rope hoping that it will help him make it down the rope easier, using the rope for support and all.

OOC Clarifications: using a rope, gives you a dc of 5. The poor lighting gives you a +2 to the skill difficulty. Example: Flea falls on a natural 1. On the rolls of 2-6 she isn't able to proceed. 7 and above she moves a 1/4 of her movement rate.

Grymash falls on a natural one as well, but can move on any other roll with his pluses.

Flea moves down the rope to about the 30' deep mark and Grymash is following her. Grymash takes the time to look around and sees movement down at the ledge where the red glow is coming from. He isn't sure but he believes it was an formian warrior due to its size.

Jake makes a face, but swallows his bug after showing off his impressive bicep. He, Trellus and Tishe follow the others down the shaft but are in real shadows and are feeling their way along.

Gilan is about to start his decent when he hears the popping sound of displaced air. He sees the large form of a Formain directly behind Mac. The formian looks to be the same one who dumped oil on the group before, as it is wearing an ornate helmet.

It whips around and sticks it stinger into Mac's back (hit ac 33) and does 7 points of damage to the minotaur. Mac needs to make a saving throw vs poison or take 2d6 dex damage. Fort save dc 20 vs con.

Mac also needs to make a will save dc 10 or let go of the rope. If he does, Grymash and Flea will fall around 120'. If Mac has failed his first save vs the poison, then the dc jumps to 15.

There is a bellow and snort from the ledge above as Mac is caught off guard by the Formain - the vile fluid from it's tail less of a distraction than it's successful strike at his shoulder. [Fort Save:28; Will Save: 13] He feels the rope straining in his hands as he spins with another roar as he tries to skewer or gouge the Formain with his horns [Hits AC:25 for 11 damage.], and if he gains good purchase with his horn(s) and the opportunity presents itself, he'll attempt to throw the Formain from his horns at a solid piece of dwarven carved wall. [I have no idea what to roll for that, it was just a spur of the moment idea.]

(Im assuming that my Climb DC is 5, since Gry has darkvision and can see. He can double speed (half movement) down the rope with an additional +5 to DC. Can we assume Gry was moving double speed in his last post since he was make climb checks of 10 and more. Otherwise, were going to be climbing down this rope for weeks.)

(Double speed at half movement=20-ft. Climb checks: 22, 19, 13. Or use my rolls from my previous post.)

Grymash wonders what is happening. He can only assume that Mac is under attack. He looks up at Flea and sees how she is doing. He also looks down quickly to see what the Formain is doing as well. What a spot he's in. Grymash looks back up and says to Flea in a low voice, "Flea, grabs on ta Gry. Weez go down tagether. Gry faster down rope." The barbarian waits for a short moment if Flea decides too and then continues down himself.

IF Flea falls he will stop and attempt to grab her as she falls by. (One-handed grapple. Touch attack. Hit TouchAC: 21. Strength check 21)

Sorry, I don't want to make that assumption at this point. The Formian Mrymarch was watching your movements and attacked when he did for a reason. Besides if you were moving double speed, you would be far ahead of Flea and she couldn't climb onto your back. You can move double speed from now on, but remember you will be carrying Flea which might give minuses and don't forget to take your armor into account. Not sure what the minuses of steelgrass armor would be, but your buckler gives -1.

Hearing the displacement of air as the creature pops back in, Gilan watches for a few seconds as the thing attacks Mac from behind. Without a minutes hesitation he moves in on the ant with his club in hand, only taking the time to tap a seal on his arm with his free hand.

"Ants never cut you a break." He brings his club in at the ants side (hit: 26, damage: 5)with as much force as he can muster. "You gonna hold out Mac?"

[free action to activate seal of sunlight - lights room, will counter most forms of darkness, lasts 1 round, 50 feet range.]

Images of Gilan impaled on sharp rocks flash through his mind. But that was another place, another time.

"Dudes, you need to get down that rope in a hurry," he says.

The cleric follows them down, trusting that Gilan and Mac can handle whatever is getting thrown at them up top.

The gnome gets kind of nervous when the rope starts to sway. When Grymash suggests she hitch a ride, Flea carefully lowers herself down the rope and clings to the barbarian's backpack with her legs, grabbing the strappings of his steelgrass breastplate with her hands. She tries to distribute her weight evenly, but brings her face to one side and whispers encouragement over his shoulder.

(OOC: Wasn't sure how to roll, but figured Climb Check=11 to climb onto Gry's back, and Climb Check=12 to Aid Another Gry adds +2 to his Climb.

As usual, things are going weird...and Jake doesn't know what to do, since everyone else in the way. But the best thing to do, is not to rush forward and try to fight, he tells himself. But he stands impatiently, and keeps a good listen at the top for anything coming from around or behind them. (listen 12)

The tunnel chamber flares with light as Gilan activates his seal. Gilan rushes forward and bounces his club off the Formian's ecoskeleton. It seems very tough.

Mac also attacks and tries to gore the creature but finds he can't penetrate the tough hide.

Flea climbs onto Grymash's back comsuming both of their rounds as Grymash has to wait in place for her to do it. (Sorry I an not allowing the give aid in this circumstance. If Flea was helping to support Grymash, or giving him an actual hand, I would allow it. Like the idea though.)

Jake, who is spider climbing down the wall, doesn't move this round.

Trellus continues down the tunnel. Will he pass Grymash and Flea as Flea scampers on Grymash's back?

Trishe climbs back up the tunnel and as she is pulling herself up and over the ledge, she sees the formian myrmarch attack Gilan.

The Myrmarch tries to both bite and sting Gilan.
He succeeds with both with ease. He does 25 points of damage and Gilan must make a consitution based fortitude save of 20 or take 2d6 of dex damage.

Grymash looks down to see a formain warrior cutting the rope beneath them. It will still reach the ledge with the red glow at 80' but no farther.

Gilan feels the bite of pain as the big ant turns on him and leaves Mac alone. He feels a biting cold start to penetrate his bones and then it is gone just as fast. He glances around for some signs of help and bites his lip as he gives in to the inevitable. "Mac...how close are the others to the bottom?" He knows that he will not hold out much longer against this ant, but maybe he can buy some time. He reaches over and taps another seal on his arm and shakes his head.

Drawing his shield he falls back five feet from the ant. "Ram en naur." He falls into The Wolds magics and brings forth a flame that engulfs his club hand. His bees angrily buzzing around him he falls into a defensive position. "Come ant...get your fill."

[free action to activate Seal of Haste - when activated this gives an extra attack to all party members within 50 feet for 2 rounds]

"Not close enou'!"

He looks at the formain - unscathed as yet. "I have something that'll break through y' shell..." he thinks to himself, "If only I didn't have to keep a hand on this rope!

I potentially tragic light dawns in the primeval forest...

Mac wedges the rope in his mouth like a bit, clamping down hard. Then he draws his axe from behind (not confusing it for the 10' pole that appeared next to it!). If Gilan's Haste effect is in place then Mac takes a tentative swing at the Formain [Weapon: Large, Adamantine[+1] Greataxe[+1], Hit AC:29 for 22 damage].

"Ay ah oo ah-ar!"

Leaving only one leg over the ledge and the other braced with a 'spider climed' foot on the wall, the mage grabs the rope with one hand and strikes herself with a wand.

Tishe' momentarily glows... and then grows!

"Get the bug, Mac! I'll help with the rope!" The now Large Tishe' braces herself and grabs the rope with both hands.

As the rope bounces and sways, Flea clings fearfully to Grymash's back. Using all of her skills, she distributes her weight evenly so that she has little impact on the half-orc's movement. (Balance=27)

"Straight down, Gry!" the rogue whispers into the barbarian's ear. "Even if we have to jump or tumble the last bit to reach the ledge, and end up falling, we have to relieve our friend of his burden!"

Flea gulps then adds, "our friends will be down after us." The gnome silently adds I hope...

Once again, the pack has split up. And once again, they're getting creamed.

I am SUCH a treadle, Trellus grates to himself.

For now, the cleric can do nothing but keep pace with Gry and Flea. He keeps himself about 5' above the two during the descent.

Grymash feels a rush of magic flow into him. His actions become quick. "Flea, weez be swingin' down on dat treadle. Put Gry's dagger in me teeths! Soft, leathery tasty part!" (He has one on both backpack straps just behind the tops of his shoulders. Not to mention two on this belt and one in each boot. If she is assisting she can do that with relative ease)

(Climb 14. Double speed. Half movement is 35 feet down. 30ft + 35ft = 65ft down. That should put us 15-ft above the ledge, if it were 80-ft down, Im guessing. How much of a ledge is there? I dont know how much damage one takes for 5-ft of falling, because you dont take damage for the 10-ft of a fall.)

(If there is a ledge) Grymash gives the rope a swing back and uses the forward momentum to drop himself and Flea down on the ledge or on the formain or whatever (Dex check 20, Strength check 22). Mac should feel the rope going slack. He's free to do his worst.

If possible, Jake will scoot around people and walk along the walls until he gets within sword's reach of this thing. If it takes his full movement to do so, he does that. If it only takes some move, he will take a swing.

Gilan activates his magics and starts to fight defensively.

Mac puts his friends lives in his teeth, (wow glad we aren't close friends) and the weight of the rope pulls his head and body forward. (Giving you a -5 to hit because of this) and Mack misses but is ready to tear into the Formain next time.

Grymash screams down the rope but finds the ledge faster than he thought he would and lands on it easily. (Remember you had travelled 30' down before anything had started to happen. You only had to travel around 50 more feet.)

An enlarged Tishe grabs the rope, only to feel it go slack. She finds that she can stand in the hallway but has to stoop a little and feels hampered in her movements.

Trellus and Jake move quickly down to above the ledge but can't quite get there yet. Gave you 40' movement which puts you around 15'-20 above the ledge.

Gilan is attacked again by the myrmarch amd his desperate defensive manuvers keep the pincers away but not the stinger. He takes another 9 points of damage and must make a saving throw consitution based fort save dc 20 or take 2d6 dex damage.

Grymash with Flea lands on a narrow ledge and looks into a red glowing tunnel that after about 10' opens into a large cavern. Lichen on the walls are glowing red, giving the place an eerie feel. Rows and rows of gigantic mushrooms are growing in very percise lines.

Both character also notice 3 formain warriors in the tunnel entrance. There is only enough space for 2 to attack at a time and they do with a frenzy of attacks. Each get 1 stinger, 2 claws and 1 bite each. Grymash is taken aback with the fury of their attacks but not impressed with the effectiveness. One bite attack hits for 2 measly points of damage.

"We're down!" Trellus yells up the shaft. "Get out of there!"

The cleric climbs down the remaining 20', and looks to see if there is anyplace for him on the ledge behind Gry. If so, he drops down and pulls a wand from his pack.
[Otherwise, he holds his action until Gry moves forward, then does the same thing.]

If Grymash can he will close with both ant whelps while drawing his double axe. With a roar the barbarian slashes into his foes. His axe swings swiftly from the magic of the druid's seal.

(Powerattack+5, two-handed+10. HitAC: 19,18. Damage: 26,24. If the first warrior drops then Cleave attack: HitAC: 19. Damage: 28.)

Stephen, Making sure I understand what you are doing here. You are pulling out your weapon and taking 2 normal swings while hasted? You are taking a +5 on your power attack so get -5 to hit. Looking at your character sheet, I see you get +13 normally minus 5 is +8. I believe you missed with the second swing unless I missed something. Let me know.

Leaping down from Grymash's back, Flea uses the momentum to tumble through the formian blocking the entrance to the new cave[Tumble=26]. From behind the monsters she draws her short sword and slashes valiantly at the back of the one being attacked by the half-orc.[Hit AC=23; 2 dmg + 15 sneak attack].

Gilan fends off the pinchers as they come in at his body, catching them on his shield. To his misfortune this puts his shield out of line to help with the stinger. He once again feels the cold of the poison as it seeps into his body, he once again fights it off as he looks around to Mac. He reaches to his arm and hits another of the seals located there.

He reaches out and strikes his hand, with the club in it, at the ant's body. His hope is to get through it's defenses and touch it with his produce flame encircled hand (touch attack - hit: 21, damage: 11 fire damage). He then steps back and slips a potion out of his belt, sucking it down (16 HP of healing). This ant must drop before they can make a move or someone is going to be in trouble.

Jake moves to the edge of the ledge and looks for anything coming out... (still not quite sure if there's a Formian there). If he can move onward, and around to more Formians, he will do so, rushing to use his magic while he can. (Use above swing I suppose)

Seeing Tishe' (gee, she's big!) has the rope in hand, Mac spits out the rope.
Seeing Gilan step back and drain a potion, Mac gives up the idea of flanking the Formain warrior.

Mac goes to town: Full attack, Taur Multi-Attack, Extra attack from Haste. It's only a shame he's too close to charge!

Horn: hits AC11, i.e. nothing but air

Sweating heavily after the swing, lunge and swing, Mac pauses to see what he's done.

Feeling the slackness in the rope and hearing Trellus' shouts, the plain-faced woman knows the others are down.

As large as she is, Tishe' elects to just sit there near the hole. If anything is left of the formian after Mac's attack, it is the mage's turn.

Sharp passes and an incantation produce three glowing bolts that unerringly strike the monster. [Magic Missle 7 damage]

If the bug is dead, Tishe' dismisses the Enlargement, and moves swiftly down the hole, winding the rope as she goes.

"Let's go before more white hands arrive!"

Mac becomes a blur of action and formian gore flies everywhere. It is amazing but the Myrmarch is still up and kicking or should I say stinging.

Gilan is successful with his touch attack but the Myrmarch doesn't seem to affected but it. He almost seems resistant to fire. Gilan starts to suck down his potion drawing an AoO from the formain leader. Gilan is stung and takes 9 points of damage. Gilan needs to make that poison save again dc 20 or take 2d6 dex damage.

Tishe is surprised to see the formian still alive but adds her missile attack to the mounting damage but the formian is still up and kicking.

After the assualt,the formian disappears with a pop.

Trellus drops to the ledge but isn't happy with his position because if he steps back, he could fall.

Jake stays on the wall and looks into the cavern, but there really isn't anyplace for him to go unless he climbs above the combatants and drops down behind them

Grymash pulls out his weapon and hits with the first hit putting the first warrior down.

Flea tumbles forward and attacks the other warrior who attacked Grymash so badly last round. She hits it wounding it badly. Unfortunately she puts herself in line the 3rd formian warrior to get a flank attack on her.

The wounded warrior attacks Grymash with a full assault but only hits once with a bite doing 3 points of damage.

Flea is less lucky as the other warrior attacks her with a full attack. He hits with a sting and claw taking 14 point of damage and must make a dc 14 save consitution based fort save or take 1d6 str damage

Gilan once again feels the bite of the creatures stinger and fate is on his side as the biting cold once again fades just as quick. With the audible pop of the ant retreating he steps over and leans against the cool wall for a minute. He gives Mac a half smile and a nod in thanks. "Glad to see you could make it." He laughs lightly as he looks at the mess they are in.

He slips out another potion (7 HP of healing) and downs it as he looks to the hole with some concern. "You got an easy way down?" He asks Mac as he moves that way. "I have a clw potion...need one?"

Grymash puts down the first formian with his first blow and follows up with his next swing and damages the second. Flea then tumbles in and kills the formian warrior with her back stab.

Flea is still attacked by the third and must make a saving throw vs poison.

The rogue knew it was risky, to attempt a move that would put her into the midst of the three ant-monsters, thus it was no surprise when one of the beasts rakes her with his claw. The sting of it's poison is another thing, and for a moment Flea's eyes cloud with pain.

Domi must be protecting her though, because she is able to throw of the effects of the poison. She makes a weak swipe with her short sword, staggering past the beast. (Miss with an 8).

Grymash charges forward and swings into the other treadle. His axe is soaked in a clear fluid. Must be what these ant treadles pass for blood. "Guutte," growls the half-orc with grim satisfaction.

He follows Gry's advance. If he is able, he will tap Flea with his Wand of Neutralize Poison.

She begins climbing rapidly down. "Let's go before more white hands arrive!" Clinging to the walls like, well, a spider, the mage lets Mac pick up Gilan to get the rest down the hole.

Gilan will let Mac pick him up and descend down the hole if that is his intent. "You want to carry me down that hole?" Otherwise he will have only two choices to get down the hole.

Grymash smashes down on the formian warrior and staggers him, but doesn't but him down.

Flea doesn't connect and no one else is in position to help.

Flea is attacked by the warrior and hit with a critical claw hit for 12 points of damage. All the other strikes miss.

Trellus taps Grymash with the neutralize poison wand.

Jake spiderclimbs on the ceiling and can drop and attack next round if he wants.

Mac carries Gilan down to the second level. Tishe is working her way down.

Grymash pauses as he sees the formain stagger. He stares hard into its eyes and curses his unfortunate foe. "Gry knows yooz all can see an hears Gry. Be scared dis day ... all yooz death be comin'!" Then the barbarian delivers the death blow.

Gilan slips out another and almost his last potion from his hidden pouch. He downs it (8 HP healed) and feels even better than he had been earlier.

As he gets down to the second level he slips out of Mac's hands. "Thanks for the assist Mac." He hopes that one day he will be able to return the favor in kind. His flaming hand produces light for all to see by and he holds his hand up, with his club still in it, to get a better view.

Gry has probably dropped this next one, and the cleric looks for an opening. Crawling up the wall if need be, he drops down over the rogue, and taps her with his Wand of Neutralize Poison.

Flea brings her arm up to cover the bloody wound in her shoulder and turns her head to one side and averts her gaze as Grymash hacks into the formian. She looks for a safe haven amidst the bloodshed and moves towards it, careful to avoid the attacks of any formians.
