DM Kathy
Friday September 24th, 2004 2:51:37 AM

Glad to be back in Plateau City, the group relaxes a bit and thinks about the future. Wilfire the bluff dwarven cleric seems to be a permanent addition to the group and joins them at their lodgings. The young rogue, Shadow, is more of a question mark, but it seems as though he and the others may work together in future--in some capacity.

You spend a pleasant evening and night. The next morning, there is a knock at the door. You open it to find Kethlorn standing there, grinning at you. "We heard you were back in town," he says. Then, apparantly remembering the dignity of his errand, he draws himself up to his full height and holds out a bundle to Arm. "Your lute cover, sir," he says with a bow. "My father said to say he hopes it meets with your approval." Catching sight of Mira, he bows to her, as well. "My father's compliments, Miss, and would you be good enough to stop by the shop for your final fitting? At your convenience, of course."

The lute cover is beautifully-worked leather, embossed with a pattern of flowers and leaves. [Unless you asked for a different pattern; I didn't read the post that carefully. :)] The seams are waxed to make it water-resistant, and the inside is padded, and lined with soft felt.

Arm
Friday September 24th, 2004 6:01:14 AM

Refreshed from a good night's sleep, Arm smiles broadly at the youth, and after examining the case, says to him, "Your father does excellent work, Kethlorn. Kindly pass along my compliments to him.". Reaching in his belt pouch, he tosses a gold piece to him, saying, "Something for your troubles, son. Be safe, and perhaps we shall see each other again soon.".

After he leaves, Arm retires once again to his room to arrange his lute in the case, finding it a perfect fit.

Shadow
Friday September 24th, 2004 10:49:22 AM

Shadow will return to 'Samson's' and see what this group of adventurers are up to.'

After awhile of drinking, "Hey guys, I am going to leave, but would you guys like me to return tomorrow? If you guys are in need of someone with my skills I could make myself available."

Kadaz
Friday September 24th, 2004 6:14:00 PM

Kadaz settles into his room, gratefully to be back in the city with buildings all around him and good firm cobblestones underfoot. He spends several hours sharpening all of his weapons and polishing all of his armor. Once that is done he is ready for something else. He then notices Birdie and the burrs in his coat. Bath time!

"Birdie and I are off to the baths. Anyone want to come? After that, Sampson's. I'm thinking about taking along a bottle of this new wine and having a celebration."

Kadaz heads out the door with Birdie at his heals. He picks up clean clothes, as well as his light flail and kukri. Unarmored is ok, but never unarmed.

Conner
Friday September 24th, 2004 7:37:22 PM

"It's good to see you up and around lad!" the fighter exclaims at seeing Kethlorn. Upon seeing that at least some of the leatherwork has been completed Conner asks the boy about his own request, "And how has your father made out with the scabbard for my longsword. He was going to decorate it with the same markings I wear on my skull" Conner points to his right temple and the ornate crimson and black tattoo that drops down beneath his eye.

Mira  d20+3=19
Friday September 24th, 2004 9:08:55 PM

"Wait for me, Kadaz!" calls Mira. Taking up a small sack with a few toiletries, she follows the dwarf out the door and to the baths.

"Sampson's sounds like a good idea, but would you mind if we swing by the leather worker's on our way?"

As they walk through the streets Mira will look for the buildings that were damaged by the dragon attack, and gauge how the repairs are going. (Search=19)

Wilfire Ironhouse
Saturday September 25th, 2004 10:30:19 AM

Wilfire wakes up very early in the morning and makes a trip to the local temple. Once then he begins a series of prayers... first a player of thanks for protecting him and his companions in their hardships. Next a prayer of guidance and support in the trials ahead. Finally a prayer for spells of healing, to bring health back to his friends.

Feeling refreshed, Wilfire hunts done some of his injured friends and attempts to heal them as best as he can.

Uriel
Saturday September 25th, 2004 1:51:16 PM

Uriel gets up just before dawn to pray and practice in the courtyard.

After working himself to exhaustion, Uriel returns to the apartment to change. If anyone is there, he will inform them that he is going to attend to some duties of the church and will not be back til late.

A small oddity, when Uriel emerges from his room to leave he is not armored and his only weapon is his quarterstaff. He is wearing his tabard over a tunic and breeches. He bids good day to anyone present and leaves.

Mira  d20+6=26
Saturday September 25th, 2004 11:57:43 PM

When it comes time to retire, Mira strings her silk rope across the width of the room (Use Rope=26) and drapes it with a blanket to provide her with a little privacy, and also so that her activities don't disturb the ranger with whom she shares the room.

She casts the spell Light on her pendant, and hangs it at the head of her cot. Making herself comfortable, she re-reads her remaining scrolls. The good meal from Samspson's and the wine from Wyclea have their effect. She starts to nod off and is unaware of the expiration of the Light spell as she is soon sound asleep.

Evan
Sunday September 26th, 2004 11:06:19 AM

Despite his blushing bright red at the suggest that he and Mira share a room, he is quite enthusiastic about the idea. When it seems that Mira could keep her room, with Evan moving in with Uriel, Evan remains silent (quite easy for him to do) to see what Mira will do. It si with great joy that Evan discovers that she wishes to remain in his room.

With the help of Wilfire, who seems to have an eye for weapons, Evan will go seel what they got from the thugs, provided nobody wants any. (How many of what did we get and do we need to sell them in the catacombs or can we do it here?)

That evening, Evan watches Mira's preparations, helping when he realizes what she's doing and signing to her, In the morning, if you'd like, I can build a more permanent wall... As Evan waits for Mira's answer, he absently toys with the gold ring he still wears, a habit that is starting to develop whenever he is nervous.

Shadow
Sunday September 26th, 2004 11:50:38 AM

Shadow waits at Sampson's to see if the group shows up. He spent the night in his 'room' and will make sure his gear is secured and cleaned.

He is hopeful that this new 'group' will be in need of his services because they look to be a 'rightful' group. He could use with some permancy to his workload.

OOC: Kathy, could you determine where Shadow's experience was before he started?

Mira
Sunday September 26th, 2004 12:01:37 PM

Mira declines Evan's offer to make a more permanant barrier. "I hope my reading light didn't keep you awake," she adds as she pushes the curtain to one side of the rope.

After a moment, she reaches for his hand, and holding it in both of hers, she asks him if he would be able to craft her a set of shelves for the storage of the items she is beginning to collect.* "Something that can be affixed to the wall with pegs underneath for hanging my clothes, pack, and other items," she elaborates.

She waves to Uriel as he departs scrunching her forehead at the quarterstaff he carries. After breakfast she takes up her crossbow and case of bolts. Since Evan is pre-occupied by the items collected from the thugs, Mira stops by Arm's room, and invites the bard to join her for a training session.

*(OOC: Mira has 6 cure potions (mostly from L&B lotto wins) she plans to share with her party)

Kadaz
Sunday September 26th, 2004 6:22:12 PM

Kadaz watches the folks sort out their room assignments. It seems clear to him which way this is going to go, but since no asks his opinion Kadaz doesn't offer it.

In the morning in the common room Kadaz starts up the conversation. "Based on what just happened, we should call ourself 'The Clueless'. Or how about 'The Easily Fooled.' Any other suggestions?"

Mira
Sunday September 26th, 2004 7:22:58 PM

Mira doesn't know whether to laugh or cry when Kadaz makes his suggestions, however, it does open the venue for dialogue. Rising from her seat at the table, she starts,"I don't know about the rest of you,but I feel this last mis-adventure quite sorely." Mira flushes a little, then confesses, "I was raised in poverty, and care not for it." She looks at the visiting rogue, then the bard, the ranger, the fighters, and the cleric, finally settling her green eyes on the paladin. "Doing good works is important, and I think that should be a mandate of our group. We should never stray from the path of righteousness", Mira checks Arm, from under lowered lashes...this orc thing she thinks...before continuing, "but now is the time to seek out a little mercenary work for remuneration, even if it means something dangerous!"

Her piece said, she sits back down on the bench at the table.

Conner
Sunday September 26th, 2004 7:24:55 PM

The fighter listens to what Kadaz and Mira have to say. He pats his slim money pouch, and hopes the rent isn't due any time soon.

Uriel
Sunday September 26th, 2004 10:52:21 PM

Before Uriel leaves, he notices that the others are in the mood for a discussion. He leans against the wall and listens.

Uriel chuckles and grimaces in mock pain at Kadaz's cynical group name suggests.

He inclines his head at Mira's comments about good works. "Of course I agree with you Mira., although good works doesn't always take place in a staight line or in some tidy way."

"Perhaps each of us could ask around from our other acquaintances about potential work," Uriel suggests.

After hearing out any others thoughts on the matter, Uriel departs.

[OOC: Conner, I thought it was a quiver? Whatever it is, it'll be ready tomorrow. :) ]

[OOC: Shadow and Wilfire started with 1,000 XP]

The group discusses a future direction, possible group names, and the need for finances. Rent won't be due for a while yet, but it does begin to look important that your next job pays something.

[Those of you looking for jobs, feel free to roll Diplomacy and/or Gather Information checks.]

Mira  d20+3=21 d20+2=13 d20+4=24
Monday September 27th, 2004 1:08:05 AM

Mira takes Uriel up on his suggestion. Changing into the plain peasant's garb she wore on their last adventure (Disguise=21) she heads for her home turf along the border of the Outcast Quarter and Rogue Quarter. Her last stop is The Watering Hole, the place that used to be the regular hangout of her old teacher the veteran combat sorcerer, Terin Saybik. Mira keeps a tight lip, and open ears (Listen=13) as the locals gossip and exchange news. She reads the notice boards in the taverns for opportunities. (Gather Info=24, nat. 20!)

Arm  d20+2=19 d20+8=11
Monday September 27th, 2004 6:00:48 AM

Arm accompanies his friends to the bath house, then to Samson's. While there, he eagerly looks around for the red-haired beauty that he briefly met before their last mission (spot=19).

Back at their flat, he listen to the idle talk, snorting once at Uriel's comments, but keeping further response to himself, "If I'm to gain ANY satisfaction, it'll have to be while this self-righteous fool isn't looking", he thinks.

After a bit, he excuses himself and takes a walk around the town strumming his lute absently, keeping his eyes and ears open for possible money-making opportunities (gather info=11).

Kadaz  d20-3=0
Monday September 27th, 2004 6:12:09 AM

Kadaz makes the rounds of those he knows in the guards, asking if anyone has heard of any job opportunities. But as usual Kadaz does a poor job on his own of convincing others to part with information. (gather information 0)

Evan
Monday September 27th, 2004 6:38:37 AM

Evan gladly builds the requested shelves and clothing pegs. He quickly reassures Mira that her reading light did not bother him at all but keeps the fact that her presence, so close by, actually helped him sleep better.

Evan joins the others as they discuss the need for work. Sitting next to Mira, Evan hopes that his hand resting on her shoulder when she sits back down will assure the others that Mira speaks for him as well.

Once the others split up and move about their chores for the day, and after Evan has finished building Mira's shelves, Evan heads back down to the stables to take Ariel out for a ride. In the funny sort of whistling language that Evan has, he tells Ariel all about their lastest adventure, particularly his joy in participating in the mock marriage with Mira.

Shadow  d20+2=21
Monday September 27th, 2004 10:34:29 AM

Shadow listens to the group, he gets a little annoyed at how the one called 'Kadaz' quips about a name for the group that is not very flattering. He will keep his opinions to himself. Once the party starts to split up to see about work Shadow will say, "I will check my sources out, but usually clients come to me." With that said, Shadow will depart back to 'The Guild' and see what news there is.

He will report in to Bloderask 'the daywatchman' and give up his agreed upon 'contribution' from his last assignment. He will then see if there is any news about current 'jobs'. (Gather Info=21)

Conner  d20-2=7 d20-2=6
Monday September 27th, 2004 7:56:15 PM

Conner listens to the rogue and shakes his head, a flash of white teeth under a dark mustache leading to chops. Sources indeed! he thinks to himself.

"I'll call on the leather-worker to see what progress he has made."

The fighter will first stop at Baldis' place. After a few words he'll take a walk across the bridge to the Outcast Quarter and visit the Flying Pigs Inn where he'll hoist a few with the locals. (Diplomacy=7) Finding the place a little on the seedy side, he'll cross back over the bridge and spend the afteroon at Sampson's nursing an ale, making small talk with the regulars (Gather Info=6) and contemplating the comely Amy as she goes about serving customers.

Uriel  d20+3=18
Monday September 27th, 2004 10:00:40 PM

Uriel goes to talk to the priests of Domi. He discusses the rites that he must attend to now to make good his newest gifts from Domi.

Afterwards, he talks with the lay persons of the church about any rumours and the like (Diplomacy:18).

Just before dusk, he will head by Baldis' shop to see how they are faring. He wishes them good tidings afterwards and goes back to the apartment.

DM Kathy  d20=1
Tuesday September 28th, 2004 1:20:54 AM

Evan is able to sell the gear taken from Avandri's thugs for a total of 150 gold (no need to visit the Catacombs for that).

Mira travels to the Outcast and Rogue quarters, where most of the talk still centers on the recent Dragon attacks and what city officials are going to do about it. "What's the point of living in a city with 100 adventuring companies," one man grumbles, "when we have dragons attacking us any time they please?"

Mira does hear a few interesting rumors in the Rogue Quarter about a possible new group of thieves operating in the Shanty Quarter. The people Mira overhears seem to agree that the thieves are "bad for business," although precisely which business they don't say. They also seem to feel that since it's "only the Shanty Quarter," it probably isn't worth worrying about too much.

Kadaz makes the rounds of various guards, who are too busy to talk to him.

Conner's luck is little better, although Amy seems willing to console him.

Shadow visits his contacts, and, giving the correct passwords, is able to get a bit more information than Mira has. The number of petty thefts in the Shanty Quarter has increased dramatically, and the activity is unauthorized. "Of course, it's only the Shanty Quarter," Shadows contact informs him, "so it's not a high priority. Still, if your lot wanted to investigate there'd be something in it for you."

Uriel asks at the church, who are also quite concerned over the implications of the dragon attack. They also mention that there have been an unusual number of disappearances from the Shanty Quarter. "Of course, those poor souls do vanish now and then," the priestess tells him. "They hear a rumor of a fortune to be made and set off in pursuit, or they run afoul of ruffians, or--well, the gods alone know what. Still, there have been unusual numbers of late." She sighs. "It's such a poor neighborhood, you see. It isn't that the guard--and the Church, for that matter--don't care, it's just that--" she sighs. "Well, it really doesn't compare with dragons, does it? I fear there is little help to be had for the Shanty Quarter."

Arm spends a pleasant few hours at Sampson's, and does see the beautiful redhead there. She performs, but her performance seems a bit off. She looks troubled.

Arm
Tuesday September 28th, 2004 5:55:48 AM

Seeing her distress, Arm approaches the vixen after her performance, saying, "Well met again, my dear. I couldn't help but notice that something is troubling you. If you'd care to talk about it, perhaps my companions and I can provide you with some assistance?".

Evan  d20-1=11
Tuesday September 28th, 2004 6:09:00 AM

Evan returns to the flat after he has sold the weapons, turning the 150 gp over to Mira for distribution as he is fairly certain that she will have a better idea of how it should be divided. Afterwards, he makes his way over to Sampson's for a couple of ales and a few tales and rumors. (gather info- 11)

Kadaz
Tuesday September 28th, 2004 8:12:55 AM

Kadaz and Birdie return to their rooms, tired and with nothing useful to relate. The dwarf listens to the others report on their findings. "Shanty Quarter has always had a bad time of it. With little gold to spend they are overlooked. And sadly the guard usually sees them as a source of trouble, rather than in need of protection."

Shadow
Tuesday September 28th, 2004 10:56:05 AM

Shadow is a little surprised that 'The Guild' has not already taken steps about this 'unauthorized jobs'.

Shadow will return to the 'flat' (is this where the group meets or is it Sampson's) and says, "The only information, other than the dragon attacks, is about the strange happenings in the Shanty Quarter." (Although he was going to use a different name for the Shanty Quarter - he catches himself and uses the common name.)

"If you guys are thinking about investigating this, I would like to join in with you, as I have an interest in finding more information around this." (He is really motivated by the fact that this could really boost his standing in 'The Guild' - while helping out those people in need in the Shanty Quarter, also.)

Mira
Tuesday September 28th, 2004 5:54:04 PM

When Evan shows Mira the coins he got for the equipment he collected from the bad guys, she gives him a hug. Well done, sweetheart! she signs adding, "normally I would suggest we divide any treasure by the number in the group, +1 for a group kitty, however since the amount is not great, my suggestion is to distribute it evenly between Uriel, Kadaz, Arm, Wilfire, and we two. The rogue seems to have been well rewarded by his patron, and did not participate in the defense of Wyclea."

Mira finds the newcomer, "Shadow, this flat is our home. You are welcome to take a room with us, if you do not mind sharing." Waving her arm around the very plain common room, "it isn't much, but it is safe...and cheap." Mira catches Conner's eye, and then Arm's, "Sampson's is the neighborhood bar and a good place for a cheap meal and a decent pint, but the 'boys' can tell you more about it's delights."

Mira will then confirm what the rogue says, indicating that she had learned as much during her outing.

Conner
Tuesday September 28th, 2004 6:04:08 PM

Removing the spikes from his shield, Conner carefully cleans and examines each one to make sure they are in good repair. When he is satisfied, he will straddle a bench, and using a whetstone methodically sharpen each point, as he listens to what the others say.

The fighter shakes his head at the information that the guard are 'too busy with other things' to care about troubles in the Shanty Quarter.

Uriel
Wednesday September 29th, 2004 12:17:32 AM

Uriel returns, with a frown on his face. He lets the others know of his inquiries at the church. He is a bit alarmed that others have also discovered the same thing.

"It may be that this is being very UNDER
estimated by everyone hearing of it. It is like a larger puzzle and no one has all the pieces..." Uriel's voice trails off.

DM Kathy
Wednesday September 29th, 2004 2:21:13 AM

Some in the party begin discussing a possible next assignment. It seems there may be something going on in the Shanty Quarter. Should they begin looking into it at once, or is there still business that some group members need to do?

[Just to clarify, Mira and Shadow heard about an increase in thefts; Uriel heard about people disappearing.]

The red-haired woman smiles at Arm. "Well," she says, "I met this charming and interesting man, and I had feared for some days he was killed during a dragon attack. It seems my fears were groundless, though." She smiles. "It's good to see you again, Armathen."

Evan
Wednesday September 29th, 2004 6:02:14 AM

Evan nods in agreement with Mira's decision for the distribution of the money, only he's not sure how to divide 150 gold 6 ways. But more importantly, she called him sweetheart, causing all thought of money to flee his head.

Evan joins the others, sitting at Mira's side as he listens to the conversation. It looks like another low paying job if they investigate what is occuring in the Shanty Quarter. Evan grins wryly as he realizes he may end up being the scrounge for the group, just to keep food on their table.

Arm  d20=15
Wednesday September 29th, 2004 6:04:55 AM

Doing his best to hide his feelings on hearing that she has an interest in someone else (bluff (?)=15), he says, "Well, that's certainly good news for you then. Good luck with your relationship, and we'll talk soon.". Saying thus, he prepares to leave for the flat. If she doesn't attempt to stop him, he will exit the pub, then decide to walk around town for a bit, coming across a stand that is selling books on magic.

Uriel
Wednesday September 29th, 2004 6:36:45 AM

[OOC: Thanks Kathy - I just meant the old 'There's something rotten in Denmark'... in my post}

Shadow
Wednesday September 29th, 2004 9:59:48 AM

"Thank you again for the offer of staying with you, but I already have some place to stay ..." He trails off as if he were going to say more, but decided not to.

"If you are going to investigate what is going on in the Shanty Quarter than I will be happy to join you. If you are going to do something else let me know." Shadow will wait to see the response from the group.

Mira
Wednesday September 29th, 2004 9:32:00 PM

Since Evan has entrusted her with the pouch of gold, Mira divides it into 7 even stacks. She then moves about the room distributing the tidy piles (21 GP 43 SP) keeping one (21 GP 42 SP) for herself.

"Better make it last, boys, it might be all we see for a while." With a sigh, the sorcerer adds, "Lets go see what we can find out about these Shanty Quarter mysteries."

The woman rubs her nose, deep in thought, then asks, "I'm of a mind to call on Hrithgren, Baldis' neighbor, when next I call on the leather-worker about my belt. Remember, his son went missing also? The two might not be connected, but it is a start. Would anyone like to accompany me?"

Conner
Wednesday September 29th, 2004 10:24:09 PM

Conner pockets the coins and nods in agreement with Mira. "Not exactly a fortune is it?" he chuckles. "Never mind, we'll do better next time." He agrees to go with Mira to see Hrithgren and then on to the Shanty Quarter.

Uriel
Wednesday September 29th, 2004 11:03:05 PM

Uriel says, "Shadow, we are going to check out the Shanty Quarter." To Mira, "Thank you, Mira. I will go with you also."

DM Kathy
Thursday September 30th, 2004 2:53:14 AM

Mira, who needs to go to Baldis's shop anyway, decides to stop by and see Hrithgen while she's in the neighborhood, and Conner and Uriel decide to accompany her.

[Anybody else? And is anybody going to tell Arm where you went?]

You walk the familiar route to Baldis Quality Leathers, and open the door to find both Baldis and Kethlorn there. Baldis greets you with a smile. "Miss Mira! I was hoping you'd stop by so I could finish your belt. I think you'll be pleased. And Mister Conner, sir! Kethlorn, fetch Mister Conner's quiver. I put the finishing touches on it this morning," he adds as Kethlorn brings the quiver out from the work area.

The quiver is made of black leather, embossed with a pattern similar to the one in Conner's tattoo. The stitching around the top and bottom edge has been done with dark-red sinew to create a decorative contrast. Similar stitching decorates the carry strap, and the entire thing has been waxed to repel water. "There you are," Baldis says, "I hope it meets with your approval."

"I waxed it myself," Kethlorn adds. "With the best beeswax we have."

"Sir Uriel," Baldis says, "when might we have the pleasure of crafting your item?"

At Sampson's, the redhead laughs as Arm turns to leave. "It's not nice to tease a person," she says, "so don't pretend you don't know who I'm talking about. Sit back down, you goose, and tell me where you've been keeping yourself. I was afraid the dragon got you!"

Arm
Thursday September 30th, 2004 6:07:58 AM

Suddenly it dawns on Arm whom this ravishing beauty is speaking of. His broad grin gives way to a hearty laugh as he seats himself at a table, pulling out a chair for Anya first.

Arm then proceeds to order a round of drinks for them both, and then he tells her of their most recent assignment, all the while keeping his eyes locked on hers, mesmerized by her beauty. When he finishes, he waits to hear what things will spill from her sensuous mouth.

Uriel
Thursday September 30th, 2004 7:49:06 AM

Uriel smiles at the fine work of the quiver. When Baldis addresses him, Uriel responds,
"Baldis, I am thinking of a saddle, but for the dimensions of the beast I do not know yet. You may or may not know that Paladin's are gifted by their Deity with a unique steed, when I am considered worthy enough for that gift, I will come see you for the saddle. I have seen no finer leather work done in this city"

Shadow
Thursday September 30th, 2004 10:00:56 AM

"I am glad that you are going to investigate the problems occuring in Shanty Quarter, and I would be happy to accompany those of you that are going." With that said he will follow along to the leather shop.

At the leather shop he will remain in the back, but listen closely to anything the the two men have to say that might give any indication of what might be happening in Shanty Quarter. (OOC: if the man's missing son has anything to do with Shanty Quarter that is.)

Kadaz
Thursday September 30th, 2004 11:31:49 AM

"I'll meet you in Shanty Town. First though, I'll stop by and tell Arm our plans. Since you're stopping at the leatherworkers I'll probably arrive the same time you do."

Conner
Thursday September 30th, 2004 5:46:25 PM

The fighter beams widely as the quiver is presented to him. He runs his thick fingers across the embossed pattern that runs down it's side and admires the obviously superior work. He remains quiet as he performs his examination, but it is obvious to all that he is truly taken with Baldis' work.

"It is truly grand" he finally manages to say, and he gently squeezes Kethlorn's shoulder in appreciation. "Thank you both, I will carry this with pride". Conner transfers his arrows to the new quiver and straps it across his back.

Evan
Thursday September 30th, 2004 6:16:40 PM

Evan also accompanies Mira. He has funally decided what he would like to have crafted for him and with Mira at his side, he hopes he can explain what he wants.

First, he takes out one of his nice throwing axes and shows it to Baldis, making sure to show him just how sharp the masterwork axe is. He then shows Baldis his pouch he uses to hold the axes. The end has been ripped open by the sharpness of the axe that hangs in it. Evan signs to Mira, to explain to Baldis. I would a stiff U-shaped beltpouch with a slot in the side so that I can flick the axe into my hand. I would also like the front end open so that the axe can slide into my hand when I draw it. And finally, a strap that can be fasten in such a way as to be considered peace-tied to hold the axes in. Evan watches Baldis as Mira explains to see if Baldis understands.

Mira  d20+3=19 d20+5=24
Thursday September 30th, 2004 11:45:44 PM

Before the party splits up, Mira suggests that they all meet up no later than noon since their destination is quite far. She suggests The Adventurer's Repose a tavern in the Hindquarter. "It's not far from the Shanty Quarter."

Mira is very taken with the leather items crafted by Baldis and his son. As the others make their requests, she tours about the shop, looking at the items, and to see if there is anything new. (Search=19)

When there is a lull in the conversation, she translates Evan's request for him, and helps out if any further clarifications are required.

"By the way, Baldis, has Hrithgren's son returned. Evered, I think his name was?" she asks in a gentle questioning voice. (Diplomacy=24)

DM Kathy
Friday October 1st, 2004 2:35:35 AM

Baldis beams at Conner's praise. "I'm glad you like it, sir," he says.

He listens intently as Mira relays Evan's request, and frowns for a moment in concentration. "Doable, I think," he says at last. "Though I may have to tinker a bit with the design." He takes very careful measurements, not only of the axe, but also of Evan's hand and forearm. "It needs to sit at just the right height for your reach," he explains. He writes the measurements down and gives them to Kethlorn to put in the desk. "I'll spend some time on the design, then get started on it," Baldis promises.

He also listens to Uriel's plans. "Alas, Sir Uriel," he says, "I am no saddler. That is Hrithgen's trade." He bites his lip for a moment, then adds, "But, if a saddle is what you want, then a saddle you shall have. One of Hrithgen's finest. I'll work out a trade with him."

He smiles at Mira. "Now, then Miss Mira, if you'd care to step back here," he steps aside to let Mira move into the work area. He takes a mostly-finished belt from the workbench and holds it up around her.

The wide belt is embossed with fanciful twining dragons. The top and bottom edges have been worked with a flame motif. It will eventually lace up in the front and back, but just now there are no holes for the laces. "I want to be sure to get these just right," he explains, and calls out a series of numbers to Kethlorn, who notes them down. "There," he says, carrying the belt back to the workbench. "It should be finished tomorrow."

His cheery smile fades when Mira mentions Evered. "No," Baldis replies, moving to give his own son an awkward hug. "Evered hasn't returned; there's been no word."

Kethlorn, too, looks unhappy. "I feel so bad about it," he tells you. "Maybe if I'd stayed friends with him---"

"You did stay friends with him," his father reminds him. "Longer than he deserved, I daresay."

Shadow doesn't hear anything specifically about the Shanty Quarter, but there is some interesting stuff here that he files away. Evidently, this group has some history with this Baldis person. Looking around the shop, Shadow can also see that the leatherworker does good work.

At Sampson's, the redhead (whose name is Anya, although she hadn't had a chance to introduce herself yet), listens intently to Arm's tale. "It sounds like a difficult assignment," she says when he finishes. She smiles, "the kind of thing they don't tell you about in the sagas of Great Adventurers. Are you going to write a song about it," she continues teasingly, "or just pretend it never happened?"

When Kadaz gets to Sampson's, he finds Arm deep in conversation with a beautiful red-haired human woman.

Shadow
Friday October 1st, 2004 10:26:31 AM

Shadow will remain watching the group as they discuss different things with the leatherworker. He does take a closer look at the various pieces of the man's trade. He admires those that take pride in their work.

He will follow the group either to Sampson's or to Shanty Quarter.

Arm
Friday October 1st, 2004 10:50:56 AM

Arm smiles grimly at her comment, saying, "Aye, I think it best if that escapade never makes it to song...not many would be interested in hearing it, anyway. What I am interested in, however, is YOU...I don't believe I ever got your name, for starters. Someone as ravishing as you MUST have a name sent straight from the Gods.".

Wilfire Ironhouse
Saturday October 2nd, 2004 9:38:59 AM

With little money to spend Wilfire spends most of his time praying and preparing for the adventures ahead.

"Once your business is taken care of, please summon me and we can learn what trouble brews in the shanty."

Conner
Sunday October 3rd, 2004 9:37:39 AM

The burly fighter watches as Baldis practices his trade on Mira's girdle. The man is obviously a skilled craftsman, careful with his work, concerned about the detail. Conner's satisfaction with the quiver he has just recieved swells.

Mira
Sunday October 3rd, 2004 3:37:25 PM

It is hard for the sorcerer to keep the wide grin off her face when she tries on the belt. "Baldis! You were most lavish with the details. It is lovely work," says Mira effusively.

When she sees the long faces on Kethlorn and his father after her enquiry about the run-away, Mira apologises, "I am sorry. I did not want to bring up any bad memories." She then adds, "we have heard reports of disappearances and such in the Shanty Quarter and are off to investigate with our new associate." The sorcerer gestures to Shadow, "Shadow, this is Baldis and his son Kethlorn. We have had the happy circumstance of rendering Baldis a small service, and in return he has gifted us with the best of his craft!"

Sunday October 3rd, 2004 5:37:52 PM

Kadaz enters the bar and sees Arm deep in conversation with a beautiful woman. He comes up to them and interrupts. "Arm, we're off to investigate some trouble. Can you tear yourself away?" (diplomacy roll 11)

Uriel
Sunday October 3rd, 2004 7:16:31 PM

Uriel seems a bit off, although it is hard to figure exactly what it is.

He says to Mira and the others, "Shall we go? We have others to question."

He bids good day to Baldis and Kethlorn and goes to wait for the others outside.

Mira glances at the paladin when he abruptly suggests the party get moving. She senses something is up with him (Sense Motive=18) but she can't quite put her finger on it. She will keep her eye on Uriel to make sure he hasn't taken ill.

The group in the leatherworking shop take their leave of Baldis and go next door to question Hrithgen. They find the taciturn saddler at his work. "Oh, it's you," he says, apparing unconcerned. With feigned casualness, he adds, "Any word?"

In Sampson's, the red-haired woman smiles at Arm. "My name is Anya," she says, then pouts a little. "And I am quite devastated that you have never heard of me. Some people think I'm quite talented." Looking up, she adds, "I believe your companion wishes to speak with you."

Indeed, Kadaz approaches to tell Arm that the group will soon be leaving for the Shanty Quarter.

[OOC: I'd really like to have updated character sheets before we start the next module for real. Hint, hint.]

Arm
Monday October 4th, 2004 6:09:36 AM

Looking up, or rather AT Kadaz ( :-) ) with a look of irritation, he sighs and turns to Anya, saying, "My apologies, my dear...I have just recently taken up residence in this town, so you'll kindly excuse me if I have not heard of you. I must apologize again to you, but it seems,"again a sidelong glance Kadaz, "that duty once again calls to me. It was a pleasure as always to spend time with you, and my solitary wish is that someday soon we'll get to spend MUCH uninterrupted time together. I will think of you often while I am gone, and I hope to see you soon.". Saying so, he attempts to take her hand and kiss it, if she lets him, then rises to follow Kadaz out the door, muttering to him, "You couldn't have picked a worse time, could you?".

Kadaz
Monday October 4th, 2004 6:38:36 AM

Kadaz smiles at Arm. "Don't worry. She'll be here when you come back. Just bring a present for her and all will be forgiven."

Kadaz then heads off for the Shanty Quarter to look for the others.

Shadow
Monday October 4th, 2004 3:05:50 PM

"Well met, and I might have need of some leatherwork in the future." Shadow will be as cordial as master leatherworker is (not sure if he wants to shake hands or not).

He will wait for the group to finish and then jion them when they move on to the Shanty Quarter.

Evan
Monday October 4th, 2004 6:29:09 PM

Evan returns to the flat with the others and begins preparing for the trip into the Shanty Quarter. While the long sword is a more powerful weapon, it can get tangled in a long cloak. Evan carefully wraps his long sword and leaves it under his bed. He places his two masterwork axes, tucked through his belt one on each hip, while his normal throwing axes go into his pouch for throwing. While he doesn't plan on looking for a fight, he has noticed that fights seem to find him, so there is no sense in not being prepared. The flask of holywater and the magic oil go into a pouch and the 4 potions of healing are gathered up and taken to the table in the common room. Evan adds his potions to Mira's so that they can be spread out amongst the group. Evan grabs his backpack from the room and waits at the common table for the others to get ready.

"We have heard reports of disappearances and such in the Shanty Quarter and are off to investigate," explains the sorcerer by way of response to Hrithgrin's casual acknowledgement. "Did your son associate with anyone from that quarter? If you could name any of his friends, it would give us a starting point?" (Diplomacy=16)

Conner
Monday October 4th, 2004 10:38:47 PM

Conner waits inside the door of Hrithgrin's shop while others pursue their line of questioning.

Uriel
Monday October 4th, 2004 10:54:20 PM

Mira gets the sense that it has something to do with Baldis and his son but there is no clue as to exactly what it is.

After everyone gathers outside, Uriel suggests "Should we go by the flat to pick up the others waiting there? Or should we send a messenger to tell our friends to meet us at some other landmark close to the Shanty Quarter to save time?"
