With a dry coat Firn'gaer floats above the frozen land surveying the battle before him. With the addition of the giant and the dwarf, the battle seems to have started to turn.
The bear and rhino look like they are in greater need...so...think...AH!
Fighting against the numbering weight of his clothes, Firn'gaer calls out "Agu'mus Dremial." Focusing the spell's effect centered at A3, a drowsy haze tries to take hold.

Yorrick topples to the snow with a final cry of pain and lies motionless. Peerimus staggers under the ape's attack, his strength draining from his limbs. He steps back with a glance in Savin's and Sly direction. Perhaps he could still save Luke. The clouds darken above the ape attacking the dog and a fierey white bolt of Lightning flashes from the sky, striking with a thunderous immpact. [Defensive cast Call Lightning Storm Hero point to reroll 21 Success Reflex 19 26Dmg] With that and a satisfying snort the white Rhino sinks to the ground motionless beside the great bear.

After surveying the field of battle, Firn'gaer fires a spell toward the northern conflict. (Spell Failure 38% Success!) The spell goes off without complications. Suddenly the snow around the two apes is that much lighter, the air is warmer, the ground soft and inviting. One of them briefly fights the pull to sleep, but both soon succumb, drifting to the ground in slumber. (A3 Will Save 4, A1 Will Save 16)
The mage flies swiftly over the snow leaving Sly's chest open in the snow behind him.
BTW, Firn'gaer, you may roll your own spell failure using the d100 button.

Savin takes a few desperate moments to pull himself from the brink of death.
Peerimus makes a heroic effort to cling to focus, as blackness draws down over his sight. He sends a second jag of brilliant light, and it strikes the Ape (A2) looming over the valiant Luke. (Reflex Save 16 -Fail) The ape smokes in electric death, and drops, charred and blackened to the earth.
Then the druid lays down with his dearest friend. All things having been shared in life, the pair share as well the descent towards death.
Peerimus, please roll stabilization for you and Yorrick.
Sly veers from Savin to Peerimus. His sword is drawn and ready. As the ape (A3) drops into slumber, Sly strikes a single mighty blow. The ape's head flies spinning from it's body a sleep from which it will never awaken.
Luke, deprived of his opponent, rushes to the next nearest, the sleeping Ape! (A1) Luke savages the snoozing primate, causing it to awaken.
+++++++++
With a quick shuffling step, Ilsidur moves from one foe to another. He strikes at the Half-orc, (HO2) and the force of his axe sends it flying to the cold white ground, a position from which it will never arise. Then with a mighty swing, Ilsidur cleaves through the chest of an Orcish raider. (O13) Its chest explodes from the force of the blow, raining bits of flaming flesh and bone across the fresh carpet of snow.
Blood dripping from beneath his armor, Shiraz pours a barage of strikes into one of his attackers. (O08) The orc grunts and jerks as the blows fall. He is dead well before his body falls away.
Jason steps up his attack. Now that the insane weasel-thing is gone, he has two active opponents. He presses the attack against the orc, whittling away it's life. (O14)
++++++++++
Within the Large Tent, Niobe watches the Half-orc (HO1) as it screams in rage at the Orc raider, (O01) fallen again to the floor. It berates it's full-blood comrade in universally offensive language, then fires a series of orders. The orc replies in tones of contrition. Then the Half-orc leaves.
The raider pulls a potion from it's pouch and drinks it. Then it begins unfastening it's armor. All of this from a prone position on the floor.
++++++++++ ++++++++++
The field of battle has thinned. The remaining combatants on both sides of the conflict stand amongst the fallen. The raiders hesitate. They falter.
Then a shout comes from a place just inside the ice wall. Jason and Ilsidur understand. It is a call to battle.
With a *pop* of displaced air, the Half-orc mage (HOM) suddenly appears to the south. Again the cry is raised, but this time from outside the walls of the raiding camp. The voice rings out clear. The words roar, "Attack!"
The remaining orcs are spurred to action. They attack.
O14 attacks Jason. (To Hit AC27, AC8, Damage 19hp)
O06 attacks Shiraz. (To Hit AC18, AC7)
H04 abandon's the paladin (drawing an AoO) to attack Ilsidur. (To Hit AC16, AC10)
Suddenly, the air is filled with the sound of whip-crack and a fierce tug pulls at Ilsidur's axe. (Beat a DC37 or be Disarmed, Ilsidur) And this time, the chain wielder does not become visible.
With a powerful wrench one of the Orcish clerics escapes. (Grapple Checks OMC 32 -Escaped!, OLC 27 -Failed)
From the direction of the camp, calls arise in response to the Leaders battle cry. From the North. From the West. And From the South.
Again the tattoo on the back of Sly's hand tingles. This time, Ilsidur's does as well.

Ilsidur (101/116 hp, AC 27, true seeing - 8.1 minutes left, righteous might - 5 rds left) d20+20=38 d20+20=37 d20+17=28 Thursday September 23rd, 2004 12:01:12 AM
[OOC: Al, I assume that the orc chain fighter is not enlarged, and therefore took the -4 epnalty for the size difference, since Ilsdiur is now large-sized? Also, please note that Ilsidur still has true seeing in effect, and has had it in effect all combat. Is there any chance that he would have seen the orc leader approaching?]
Ilsidur manages to hang onto his weapon [OOC: Rolled a 38 to beat the disarm check]. Since the disarm attack from the orc failed, Ilsidur responds, and tries to disarm the orc [OOC: Orc must make a check vs DC37 or be disarmed. Remember the orc is at -4 due to size difference].
Due to his true seeing spell in place, he easily makes out the attacking orc leader, and touches Shiraz, casting dimension door on the defensive [OOC: made the concentration check with a 28 vs DC19 for the spell, so no attacks of opportunity]. He transfers the two of them north, on the west side of the downed figures of Peerimus and Yorrick (on the opposite side of Ape#1, Luke and Sly).
When he arrives beside the downed druid and his bear companion, Ilsidur calls out, "Shiraz, I have bought you a couple of rounds! Do you have any healing potions? I need to heal Peerimus and Yorrick; they are unconscious and may be very close to death! Savin, you and Sly move to help Jason! Shiraz, finish off this ape with Luke, then move south as well. Wizard, you find that chain-weilding orc, and dispell the invisibility spell on him if you can!"
Al: a medium size character doesn't take a -4 penalty in a disarm. They take zero size bonus and you, as a large size take a +4 bonus.
And, most definitely would have seen it coming. But I can't think of anything more that Ilsidur could have done about it than he already has.

Savin restores himself for the coming onslaught, then races to the rescue. He joins Sly Foxx at the fallen bodies of their druid companion and his faithful companion.
Ilsidur does more than hold to his weapon. He pulls back against the chain wielding Half-orc. (Disarm 29) The chain-like length of vertebrae falls to the snow. But the result is inconsequential, as in the next moment, the dwarven cleric draws on divine power to transport he and Shiraz to a temporary haven, gaining a moment's respite from the relentless attack.
Sly Foxx points at a seal on his leg and recommends that Ilsidur use it. He puts another fire spell into his sword, but he does not have one. The only spell he has left is one that casts a web.
You never posted that list of spells, Sly. So I'm going off of the one on your character sheet.
Luke growls as the Ape (A1) rises to it's feet. He seizes the opportunity, and lunges. And then he attacks again. (AoO To Hit AC20, Damage 9hp / To Hit AC23 (Crit at AC22), Damage 8hp, 7hp) The Ape falls back to the snow bloody and unconscious.
Sorry, I took the initiative to have Luke wake the Ape last turn by attacking him. So I thought I ought to take responsibility and follow through with things here.
Shiraz draws two potions, downing one. His wounds close, readying the minotaur for further battle.
Shiraz, juggling two weapons and two potions is a dicey proposition. Unless else someone knows of a solid ruling on this, I'll say that you either drop one weapon in the snow or only get one potion.
To appear in such a cold and far away place, only to die. Firn'gaer, soldiers on doing what he knows best. He removes a scroll and targets the area recently evacuated by the towering dwarf. The large Half-orc with the chain suddenly appears. He seems startled to suddenly become visible again.
Peerimus and Yorrick slowly continue to bleed both body and spirit into the fridged wastes of Ice Vein.

Jason stands fast as one opponent turns into three. His bastard sword sings through the snow filled air as he backs into a position of defense. His one consolation: That his foes look, if anything, worse than he feels.

Then he calls out to Savin, "Can you take that orc with the chain? His gimmick is disarm, and that won't affect you!"

Savin re-enters the fray, rushing over to support Jason. He strikes an orc raider (014) on the way. The orc wavers, unsteady on it's feet.
The presence of his Monk companion to bolster defenses, Jason spares a moment to draw the divine power of Domi into his limbs for some much needed healing.
++++++++++
The Half-orc leader (HOL) lashes out at Firn'gaer with the spiked chain. The links stop well short, clashing in mid-air against an invisible barrier. The Half-orc's mask of frustrated rage, drops far too abruptly, melting into a secret grin. It makes its way toward the group clustered over the fallen pair of bears.
Then, at 20 paces, it whirls and dashes back at the wizard. Forearms wrapped across it's face against a potential impact, it leaps high up into the air at the place it had just vacated. (Jump 25) It smashes dead on to the invisible barrier. The sound of snapping bones fills the air, and it falls back to the snow, stunned. (Treated as a fall from 20 feet.)

Sly Foxx finds a spell to put into his sword. Then he activates a Seal. An aura of healing light bathes the ground in a ten-foot circle. (Sly, Luke, and Yorrick are healed 10hp.) Luke, his mouth covered in ape's blood. Joins his master, a triumphant look on his face.
Unfortunately, two of the Apes and an Orc are also healed. They open their eyes and begin to stir. (A1, A3, O10. All are Prone. O10 is weaponless. His was sundered.)
Ilsidur pours healing energy into his fallen druid companion. Peerimus, as well as his friend Yorrick, pull back from the brink of death. (Peerimus and Yorrick are prone.) Ilsidur then moves to attend to Yorrick, who still bears grievous wounds. (No pun intended.)
Peerimus and Yorrick stir. Life and the living still call to them for service.
With two more orcs bearing down upon him, Shiraz takes on more healing. He eyes a tactical position to the Southeast with Jason and Savin, and calls for movement. Then the two orcs arrive.
++++++++++ ++++++++++
Two raiders sweep down from the North, and one of them is indeed a Hunt Leader. (O02 and OL1) They attack the largest foe in sight: Shiraz. (To Hit: AC18, AC20)
The orc (O14) strikes back against Savin. (To Hit: AC13)
The other two raiders (O06 and HO4) shift position in hopes of eventually flanking the paladin. They strike. (To Hit: AC18, AC21 / AC29, AC20, Damage 11hp)
Two more orcs run up from the South toward Savin and Jason. (O03 and O04)
The orc within the grasping dark tentacles again attempts to escape. (Grapple 31 -Escape!) And on the brink of unconsciousness, the cleric rolls free.
Sounds of footsteps can be heard further to the Northwest.
The Half-orc Mage eyes the melee building to the North. Without a care for it's fellow raiders, it casts a spell. Then, with a smirk, it retreats to the south. Dark black tentacles rise from the snow to grasp at anything within their reach.

Firn'gaer sighs with great relief as the half-orc's attack fails to penetrate the wall and then crunches off the inpenetrable wall.
Gives me time to deal with that Tentacle spell.
Firn'gaer drifts back and up from his position (5 feet) and pulls a scroll from his pack (move action) and casts the spell at the area of the black tentacles (dispel magic).

Savin moves five feet forward, to place himself in front of Jason, and rains blows down upon the armored Half-orc. (HO4) The third blow drops the raider. It's knees buckle and it drops to the snow.
With his intended target already taken down, Jason neatly shifts to the right, switching places with Savin. His massive hand-and-a-half sword cuts the snow filled air in a diagonal arc and another orc (O14) crumples to the ground.
Firn'gaer sighs with relief as the Orc Leader fails to clear the wall with it's leap. He back up five feet and rises five feet into the air. (Which is actually more than 5 feet, but we'll let that go.) He pulls a scroll and begins to cast Dispell downward into the area of writhing tentacles. At the last second he remembers.
The Wall! The Wall of Force is ten feet high. Spells will not penetrate it, and he is surely not high enough to clear the wall.
In the first version I wrote, you cast the spell and lost the scroll. As it is, you still have it. Ain't I a softy?

Shiraz slips from the dark clutching tentacles. He strikes out at his opponents (Both OL1 and O02) with a combination of sword strikes and his own natural weaponry. Both raiders fall to the attack, slipping into the morass of writhing tentacles. (BTW, Shiraz, your To Hit base with the bastard swords on your character sheet should be +15/+14. After Power Attack +5, that would be +10/+9. Please email me privately if you have a question regarding this.)
Sly fails to break the grip of the dark tentacles. He is held fast. The valiant half-elf strives to strike at the orc nearby. He imagines all of the things that he would do could he but break the grip of these tentacles. But the ropy coils of magic will not allow him to move.
Luke fails to escape the black tentacles. They squeeze him unmercifully. (Grapple Check 8 Damage 6hp)
Ilsidur struggles, but he is unable to push away the grasping tentacles. He tries to move to heal the great bear, but the dwarf is held fast.
Peerimus and Yorrick, snatched from impending death, survey their plight. The druid in rhino form shrugs off the black tentacles, and selects aan attacker for another bolt of lightening. At the last second, his intended target is dropped by Savin. The druid redirects the bolt to the raider at the flank. (O06) With a single quavering scream, the orc drops in a cloud of steaming flesh. (Reflex Save didn't matter.)
Yorrick rises and shakes away the tentacles. He brings a mighty paw down upon one of the nearby apes. (A3) It stills it's struggles without a sound.

Niobe stands listening for any who might have heard her silent dispatch of the fallen orc. Nothing detected, her eyes scan the interior of the large tent for anything of value, informational or otherwise.

The Half-orc mage (HOM) looks at Firn'gaer with annoyance as the mage flies in the air with his scroll. The human is, no doubt, up to no good. It fires a spell into the air just above Firn'gaer's head. (Gliterdust Will Save vs DC16 or be Blinded for 10 rounds)
The Half-orc leader rises, stunned and disoriented after his headlong attempt at leaping over the barrier. It shakes it's shaggy head to clear it's eyes.
The two orc raiders left on the field of battle (O03 and O04) scream warcries. One attacks Jason (O03 To Hit: AC20) The other attacks Savin. (O04 To Hit: AC29, Damage 13hp)
The Ape and the unarmed Orc raider (A1 and O10) fight the tentacles. (Grapple Check 16, 17) They fail, and the dark writhing mass rises up to swollow them.
Five more raiders appear in to the Northwest.
Peerimus, Yorrick, Shiraz Ilsidur, Sly and Luke are still within the sea of black tentacles. (See the Grapple Checks that you must beat below.)
For the first time in their lives, Jason and Firn'gaer actually feel the tattoo on the back of their hands. The power of Entropy. Chaos. Destruction and Rebirth. It is but a fractional moment glimpsed in the mind's eye, but each of the Children now know it is there. Just within their reach.

Peerimus remains prone upon the ground. More tentacles wave before his face and wrap his rhino body. He tries to focus his will to call another bolt of lightening, but the pain and distraction is too much. No bolt answers his call.
Yorrick escapes.
Shiraz hacks at the deadly black tentacles scoring blow after blow to no effect. The magically conjured arms seem beyond damage.
Sly pulls his magic around him as he attempts to harm the black grasping arms as well. (Concentration Check 9 vs. DC21 -Fail) His concentration fails him and the spell fizzles.
Luke also struggles in vain, taking 5 more points of damage. The war dog looks as bloody and battered as the rest of the group.

Savin is a blur of punch and kick, and a another raider goes down.
Jason takes on the remaining opponent, scoring twice.
Firn'gaer shakes off the cloud of sparkling dust that settles over him. Rising higher into the air, and reads the words of magic from the scroll. A wash of arcane energy floods the area of writhing tentacles. The frenzied writhing tentacles vanish, leaving only snow. Ilsidur also feels his extra clarity of sight suddenly leave him. (Dispel 15 vs. Evard's DC15; 25 vs. True Seeing DC16; 10 vs. Righteous Might DC16)

Ilsidur, having carefully watched the entire field of battle, waits on the actions of the unknown spellcaster to the west. When the dark tentacles disappear, the wily dwarf swiftly draws a feather from his pouch and flies five feet up into the air.

Niobe takes a moment to activate the ring that Shiraz had given to her. The curvaceous rogue fades into the background and then vanishes. She pads silently to the tent exit and raises the flap. Before she leaves, however, she spies a small pile of damp and weatherworn possessions piled in an out of the way corner. Unpromising as a source of valuables, but clearly out of place within the raider tent. As Niobe steps out into the cold slow filled air, she hears movement around the leftward curve of the tent.

The Leader (HOL) surveys the field of battle. He eyes the forces that remain to him, and weighs them against the battered group of interlopers that they face.
Again his voice rings out. Jason and Ilsidur recognize the words, "Retreat." All of the raiders turn. They flee into the snow. The Mage (HOM) snarls and considers one last parting spell. And yet, there is something to be said about discretion being the better part of valor. It turns and runs off to the south.
All retreat at running speed except for O03, O04, and OLC. Orcs have barbarian speed.

Savin hates to see the enemy fleeing. The battle has lasted to long and cost to much in pain for them to escape. An unusual red comes over Savin eyes and he chases after oo3 and delivers another blow to the orc's spine dealing 24 points of damage. (Remember base 60 movement, shouldn't have to much trouble catching up. Rolled critical hit) He will have used his stunning fist feat and the orc needs a fort save of 17 if he survived or is stunned.

The paladin looks over the battlefield, then to Shiraz.
"We have victory, for now. What would you have us do now? Should we give chase to the fleeing enemy, or regroup and move on?" he asks, waiting bent over to catch his breath and strength.

Just over a minutes time. Just over a minute of blood and fireworks. Now the field is littered with the dead and dying. Only fortune knows why none of those in the cold embrace of the snow is not one of The Children.
The broken pinwheels, part of the backs of each party member's hand goes quiet. The tingle is gone.
The raiders flee in all directions. Their forms fade into the falling snow. Some within the party feel the pain of battle more acutely, their wounds turned to anger.
Savin rushes up behind a retreating orc, (O03) a bird of pray diving for the kill. The blow strikes the orc cleanly, and the snap of bone splits the air. It falls, and tumbles across the snow in a loose spray of arms and legs. When it stops it is still, nerveless and slack.
Peerimus rumbles south over the snowpack, and calls lightening down upon the distant fleeing mage. (Reflex Save 28) The dim figure shakes and trembles. And when it stops, it turns. Arms move in arcane gestures. The mage's voice rings out in anger. Above Peerimus the falling snow becomes falling ice. Enormous hailstones fall from the sky to smite the druid in rhino form. (Ice Storm: 15hp Bludgeoning 5hp Cold -to which Peerimus is immune at this time- ) Then it turns and flees another 30 more feet, until it is no more than a dark form against the gray snow filled background.

As Niobe turns to her left a figure breaks from between the tents. It is an Orc, a cleric by the looks of him. He moves past her heading West.
[[ OoC ]] Visual range in the falling snow is limited to 200 feet. The Mage HOM is at the very edge of visual range. The Cleric within the camp can be seen by no one besides Niobe. There are tents and icewalls in the way. The rest are out of sight. [[ EndOoC ]]

The mage was extremely powerful and only by his choice are any of them still standing around. It was time to find Ilsidur and hope to communicate that he was in dire need of powerful healing.
Peerimus turns and hearing Ilsidur's shout moves slowly to the main gate of the campsite. Yorrick quickly shows and the great bear tries its best to steady the rhino's weaving gait.

Jason nods to the dwarf. He then begins to grab and drag the lifeless bodies of the orcs toward the camp. He would have no part in the looting of their bodies, but he knew if he brought them to a common place, they might get a proper burning as any warrior should.
Savin 15/76 Thursday September 30th, 2004 9:57:08 PM
Savin will look down with satisfaction at his handywork. He will bend down and lift the dead orc over his shoulder and trot back with him to the main group.
Once their he will throw the body down and say, "One less to bother our barbarian friends."
After listening to Shiraz, he agrees and says, "Lets loot and heal and get back to the village. We can't stay here long. They may return with more of their kind and we are to beat up to handle a major attack."
To Take the Field (DM/Al) Thursday September 30th, 2004 10:07:30 PM
Niobe stands and watches in silence as the orc cleric runs off between the tents. Outside the walls, the last of the raiders fades off into the gray curtain of falling snowflakes.
The icy ground is soaked in blood, a red splashed charnel house littered with the dead and dying. The Children of Chaos, no less a part of the scene, too walk covered in blood. Much of it is their own. Few escape unscathed this day. Pain, and the crushing woeful pass of death, more chill than the encircling arms of Ice Vein, sober the thoughts. Only the thought that these orcs were evil, and that they were a true and imminent threat, helps to buoy the spirits and lends the strength to carry on.
Magic sputters and ends. Equipment is quickly gathered from the field. And bodies are collected. A rough mound of orc bodies is forming just outside the eastern gap. Snow continues to fall. A think layer of white has already begun to form upon the pile of dead raiders.
Niobe, within the camp, hears no movement. To her trained ear, the entire camp is empty. Some two score tents sit open and abandoned.
Sly (AC20 - 69/79) and Luke (Ac16 - 28/28) Friday October 1st, 2004 7:27:05 AM
Sly bring one of the last of the Orcs bodies to put on hte pyre. "Where's Niobe?? We need her to go through the bodies pockets, we might just find somethings of help. Then we'll warm up in the big tent. I hope they left some wood or charcoal to keep us warm!"
Sly is tired, but will help to bind the parties wounds and build a bigger fire, Then ask his famous question "Who's Going to Cook Something so we can Eat??"
Shiraz AC 26 hps 48/84 d20=13 Friday October 1st, 2004 8:15:50 AM
Shiraz looks at Ilsidur, "If the others are healed would you please help me out," Shiraz chuckles softly, grimacing for a second as he realizes how close to Imod he came. Shiraz then turns around looking for a suitable place to warm up and get out of the weather. <Spot 13>
Peerimus [Rhino AC 16 HP 0-90, [Extended Endure Elements, Greater Magic Fang]] Yorrick AC 18 HP 3-73 Friday October 1st, 2004 8:57:05 AM
Peerimus drinks the potion and bobs his head up and down several times after. The Rhino with Yorrick on his heel then makes his way to Ilsidur. He gives the dwarven cleric a small nudge, bobs his head up and down again and then takes a heavy seat in the snow.
OoC Firn'gaer-what did I just drink? on your next post if you could roll it that would be fine.
Niobe Friday October 1st, 2004 11:16:01 AM
Niobe heads back to the others after making a quick look around the rest of the camp. When she gets back to the others Niobe starts to go through the bodies looking for anything that might be of use to the group.
Firn'gaer - AC14, HP 11/45 d8+1=9 d100=70 Friday October 1st, 2004 2:45:26 PM
[OOC: potion of cure light wounds - 9 hp]
Firn'gaer stands there as the others either move off into the camp or police bodies. Cold and tired Firn'gaer and Rufus have an entirly different idea for now. He pulls a tiny wire and bell from his component case and starts a chant "Agimuus Penae'boithial..." He continues this for 10 minutes and as he finishes a structure begins to erect itself in the snow. It is no larger that a cottage, but at first glance it appears solid.

Jason of Aisildur Friday October 1st, 2004 7:41:54 PM
Jason looks about the camp, and around at the blood tinged snow. The battlelust was now just calming itself. With its draining came the realization of the death and carnage.
Jason kneels on a single knee, and prays to Domi.
"Domi, Father of Courage, Lord of the Brave, here the prayer of one who serves you. Have mercy upon the souls of those who fought and died in battle. Though their hearts were evil, they displayed honor on the battlefield." The paladin then stands and turns to Shiraz. Looking up into the minotaurs face, he says to him,
"We appear to have frightened EVERYTHING from the camp. All the tents empty, it has me wondering if there was ever anything but orcs within from the start." he finishes.
Looking Around (DM/Al) Friday October 1st, 2004 9:39:49 PM
The footsteps of the orc cleric disappear to the west. Niobe makes a quick circuit of the camp not a sound comes from any of the tents. She turns back toward the eastern gap to find her companions amidst a field of blood. And for the briefest moments, they almost appear the walking dead. But they move and speak, and the sheer life in them dispels the image. They're piling dead raiders into a mound in front of the gap in the ice wall. Sly inquires as to her whereabouts, and it is only then, that she realizes that she is still invisible.
Still, without a sound, she begins going through the orcs for valuables.
Those watching closely might notice the pile of raiders move from time to time. Arms lift. Flaps of armor and clothing move aside. An orc or half-orc occasionally rolls down the pile. To the deductive mind, there is no doubt where Niobe is now.
Shiraz shades his eyes from the large falling flakes of snow, and searches for shelter. He needn't look far. Over 15 tents lie within the walls of ice. Many of them of a two man size. The largest tent in the center may hold the entire party, minotaurs, bears, rhinos and all.
A small abode begins to form upon the bloody plain of snow. The tall thin figure who stands before it is new. All that is clear is that he too fought the raiders.
Niobe's task upon the mound of dead is neither neat nor clean. Nor is it for the weak of either limb or heart. When she is through, her hands are bloody, and her arms ache with the effort. But she has a rather sizable cache of items piled in the snow.

Ilsidur makes his way back to the party, and looks around. He double-takes at the moving orc bodies, until he realizes that Niobe is likely still invisible, and searching. He addresses the rest of the group, "I still have significant healing available, if anyone needs it."
He casts cure critical wounds on both Peerimus (healing 16 hp) and Yorrick (healing 31 hp).
He casts cure serious wounds spells on both Jason (healing 12 hp) and on Savin (healing 23 hp).
"Niobe, if you don't need any healing, you take Shiraz and Sly with you and search the encampment. Maybe there is some sign of these slaves."
Then he approaches the tall thin magic-wielder, and says, "Well met. I am Ilsidur Wayfinder, and we are collectively known as the Children of Chaos. Your spells were most helpful in defeating the orcs. Can you tell us, who are you, and how did you come to be in the orc encampment?"
Peerimus [Human AC 21 HP 7-63, [Extended Endure Elements, Greater Magic Fang]] Yorrick AC 18 HP 34-73 Saturday October 2nd, 2004 10:29:57 AM
Peerimus shifts to a bear from the Rhino, an act that normally helps heal his wounds, this time however it does not appear to do anything. A few moments later and Peerimus takes on his human form. Formerally closed wounds burst suddenly, soaking more of the snow and Peerimus drops suddenly to a knee, his arms out trying to steady himself. Yorrick is at his side instantly and Peerimus uses the bears bulk to help hold himself up as he stands. Holding up a hand, "I will be alright in a few moments. Many thanks Ilsidur"
Peerimus will move with Ilsidur, albeit a bit more slowly to this newcomer, though he will keep his tongue and await answers to the dwarfs initial inquiries.
OOC Greg Saturday October 2nd, 2004 7:08:46 PM
Ilsidur healed Peerimus for 16 hp of damage. Has that been recorded in the last post?
Al: Sure. You healed him. He's healed.
Jason of Aisildur AC 23 HP 31/61 Saturday October 2nd, 2004 7:48:59 PM
Jason nods in thanks to Ilsidur. The paladin then steps up to the newcomer. He extends his hand, allowing his tattoo to show as he reaches out in welcome.
"I am Jason of Aislidur, Paladin of Domi. Welcome sir." he says to the stranger.
Peerimus [Human AC 21 HP 7-63, [Extended Endure Elements, Greater Magic Fang]] Yorrick AC 18 HP 34-73 Saturday October 2nd, 2004 9:54:19 PM
Peerimus will quickly explain that both the bear and Rhino have greater physical attributes than he. So while changing to them is highly beneficial when as wounded as I became changing back can be dangerous and even deadly.
Savin 38/76 hps Saturday October 2nd, 2004 11:56:10 PM
Savin pulls out his haversack and starts to load the potions into it carefully. He will then grab the amulets and load them in. He will then put the bows in but leaves the sharp objects for Sly's chest.
He will then start looking through the camp for more loot, coal and food.
Sly and Luke Sunday October 3rd, 2004 8:51:54 AM
Sly will go with Niobe and Shiraz to serch every inch of those tents for signs of slaves, thing of intrest, most important Food and Fuel for a Fire.
Luke is more than happy to follow and do his beat. After all any food they find, he will get a portion too.
Firn'gaer - AC 14, HP 20/45 d8+1=9 Sunday October 3rd, 2004 9:08:40 AM
After finishing his spell, he takes a small vial from his haversack and drinks it. [cure light wounds potion - 9 hp]
Firn'gaer then turns to Ilsidur, "And to you as well and think nothing of it. I had a little grudge to settle with them anyway." He reaches out with his hand towards Ilsidur. "Firn'gaer Gyddyn of South Harbor. I was on my way to Hook City when I was caught by the orcs." His face turns slightly to disgust as he speaks of his captors.
"I am looking into this," he turns up his hand to expose the tattoo on the back of his hand. "My master at the Star Mages guild didn't know what it was, so I booked passage to the City of Magic to find out more." He lowers his hand. "And here we are."
"Ilsidur, you and your companions are welcome in my magical structure if you like. I think I have some wine left and maybe a little pipe weed. It's dry, at least as dry as it can be, and secure and I think it will hold everyone though it may be tight, but I think it should work."
Niobe Sunday October 3rd, 2004 3:01:57 PM
Deactivating the ring Niobe begins to clean the blood and guts from searching the orcs off of herself. Niobe then walks over to Sly Foxx and Shiraz then heads out to scout the rest of the camp with them.
Discoveries (DM/Al) Monday October 4th, 2004 7:23:44 PM
Why does clean up afterwards always seems to take so much longer? The battle itself only lasts a split second by comparison.
Ilsidur brings his god's gift to the dire wounds of his companions.
Peerimus returns to human form, collapsing from the strain. Yorrick is there, as always, to aide his friend.
Jason and Ilsidur bid a welcome to the tall thin stranger. The stranger, in turn, gives his name, invites them into his shelter, and reveals a tattoo: The broken pinwheel of the Children of Chaos.
Firn'gaer's shelter, though secure, seems only large enough to occupy four people, or six who are very friendly.
Savin, Shiraz, Sly, Luke and Niobe move through the tents, searching for what they might find.
The smaller two man tents contain a smattering of worthless personal items. Bedrolls that smell foul with the stench of orc. Odd brushes of stiff animal bristles that look like they might be used for cleaning teeth. Packs and straps, spare boots, old underclothing, and, in and amongst all this, small bags of bone coins. Each coin carries the carving of an animal upon it's surface.
In another tent, they find a fully stocked alchemist's kit of very fine quality.
In yet another tent of only a slightly larger dimension, they find a stack of casks and a loose waterproof bag made from the intestines of a great sea mammal. In three of the casks is a fishy smelling oil. The other seven casks are packed with preserved fish. In the bag, they find coal.
The large central tent is largely empty save for the body of the dead orc that Niobe had dispatched. There is a four foot tall sculpture made from various carved bone segments fitted together to form a many-eyed thing with tentacles waving in all directions.
In the corner, however, is the small pile of worn possessions that she had noted before. A cursory glance seems to indicate that it is not of orcish make. A pack that looks like it was at one time a haversack, lies with two of its pouches blown out. Reaching inside the lone pouch nets a small bag of coins and a ring with a clear stone set in its center.
A bound book lies under the burst haversack. Both the cover and the pages are warped and discolored, as though they had been either soaked or exposed to the elements for a prolonged period of time. Opening the book, reveals it to be a journal of some kind. Most of the ink has run and is completely illegible. One of the back pages, however is only partially smeared. The page appears to contain a list of names. Sixteen names. From the reading, the appear to be of mixed races. Human, elf, halfling, dwarf. As Sly glances at the book, his eyes go wide. This is it. This was them. It had to be. For there on the page are the names of both his mother and his sister. Two other names look familar. Perhaps the names had come up in conversation or a recent tale. Who knows, yet they ring of familiarity. They are Dajibin and Nadia.
And there is a box. It lies nearby. Niobe lifts it up off of the ground, and then she goes still. The rogue thanks her training and her finely honed senses, for somewhere upon this box, she detects ... a trap.
Meanwhile, the snow continues to fall. The light above the snow filled sky is at it's peak. It is now noon.

Shiraz walks with Niobe walking carefully and carrying anything of value that she points out. Shiraz stumbles on occassion the battle and existing wounds ache, but the minotaur trudges on. "Niobe, can the box be carried back to teh cottage or the closer tents" Shiraz asks as they stop, "Perhaps you can open it easier there? Then again I am unsure of these things."
Ilsidur 2d8(8+6)+9=23 d20+9=12 Tuesday October 5th, 2004 12:15:20 AM
Ilsidur moves up beside Peerimus, and casts a cure moderate woundds spell on the druid. [OOC: Healing 23 hp damage] "Peerimus, I am just about out of spells. Is anyone else in dire need? I still have 3 second level cures, and 5 first level cures, but I am worried that we may not have seen the last of the orcs. We need to keep vigilant until we can make our way back to the barbarian camp."
"Has anyone seen any sign of a wagon or a sled? There is certainly a lot of gear here for these orcs to have carried everything on their backs, although I guess it is possible. If we can find whatever transport is available, we can load it quickly and get out of here. I am still very worred that the orcs have gone to get help, and may return at any time."
The the cleric moves to the pile of accumulated gear, and casts detect magic on the amassed items. He continues to concentrate on the spell, as he asks Niobe to bring the trapped box over so that he can scan it as well. [OOC: Al, your post refers to one or two of the pouches on the haversack blown out. Which is it?]
"Niobe, while we are looking over the items, can you carefully search that central tent, and any other location that looks interesting? Something might have been stashed out of sight."
After the magic detection is over, he takes a close look at the idol, trying to determine exactly what it represents. [OOC: Knowledge religion check of 12.]
[ Al: One compartment intact. Two blown out. ]
Positioning Update (DM/Al) Tuesday October 5th, 2004 7:26:08 AM
Peerimus, Yorrick, Jason, and Firn'gaer are outside the east gap near Firn'gaer's Secure Shelter.
Niobe, Savin, Shiraz, Sly, and Luke have searched the tents within the Raider Camp and have ended up in the large center tent. I assume that since Ilsidur has spoken to Niobe about the box that he has also come inside.
Also note that Savin has previously collected the potions, the amulets and the bows. His assumption is that the rest would go into Sly's chest. You will have to amass them again somewhere before you can cast Detect Magic on them.
Savin Tuesday October 5th, 2004 8:32:18 AM
Savin is happy to find the coal and starts to hand it out to people who are using that system to keep warm.
"I know this sounds brutal, but I think we should burn the camp and get back to the village. We are inviting counter attack by just staying here."
Savin realizes his bad manners and goes up and introduces himself to the new mage. "He takes a close look at the man's hand and then holds up his own tattoo'd hand and says, "Looks like fate has placed you with us for a while. My name is Savin. Good to have you with us. What are your talents?"
Sly and Luke Tuesday October 5th, 2004 8:45:35 AM
Sly and the rest of the searching party. Sly tells Shiraz "This big tents will hold the lot of us. Do we go back to the Barbarian encampment or do we stay here for the night? Oh! look an orcen book, I did not know they knew how to read or write?"
Sly sit down and opens the book and look through the water soak pages, when he comes to the end of the book. He look up telling every one, "Oh! By Domi wishes! There were here! My Mother was here in this encampment! Look here are the names White Ash Foxx and my Sister Ruby Foxx." Then his tone changes "There's also two other names in here that sounds familure Dajibin and Nadia?? I can not place where I have heard those names before?? Do you know of them?? They all seem to have been enslaved here."
Inside Outside (DM/Al) Tuesday October 5th, 2004 9:42:51 PM
*** Outside in the Snow and Cold ***
Ilsudur pours divine power into Peerimus and heals his wounds. The dwarf also asks if anyone has seen a wagon or sled. No one replies to the affirmative. But, then again, no one has really looked.
The cleric then goes off to find Niobe, finding her in the large central tent with a foot square wooden box. It would be prudent to scan it for magic along with the rest of the items. But the all of the items would have to be amassed in one place. That would take time.
Savin takes the coal with him and distributes it to anyone those he happens to meet who use the coal boxes under their coats. He recalls the mage that had sided with them in the battle and heads back out of the eastern gap to introduce himself.
*** In The Large Raider Tent ***
Sly Foxx kneels to one side reading from the battered journal. There sure don't seem to have been any other books in the raiding camp.
Niobe studies the box in silence while Shiraz looks on with concern. When Ilsidur enters he notes the odd scupture. It does not strike him as the figure of any god that he is aware of. More like the creation of someone's fevered imagination.
*** *** ***
Various options are mentioned. Various possible dangers brought to the fore. Should they return to the barbarian village now? Should they spend the night here? Do they burn the tents down? Or should they spend the night in them?
Shiraz AC 26 hps 48/84 Wednesday October 6th, 2004 4:56:05 AM
Shiraz looks at Ilsidur as the dwarven cleric enters the large tent, "I hurt, my friend, and I need your help." Shiraz is battered and wounded the blood has stopped running down his arms and legs but he is covered in it. "Also we need to stay here, it is getting late and better we are out of the cold, we should all congrgate in 1 tent and start a fire with the remaining timbers and such so that we can get a start back to the barbarian village tomorrow."
Sly and Luke Wednesday October 6th, 2004 10:50:55 AM
Sly wants to know "Since they did have Slaves here, Did you all find any signs of them? Did we cover all the tents? We better talk to the others."
Firn'gaer - 20/45 Wednesday October 6th, 2004 1:04:43 PM
"Never seen it before..." he says in regard to Ilsidur non-comment about his tattoo.
Since the lack of interest in staying in his magical structure, he turns and walks in. "Sorry I'm freezing to death out here."

Peerimus - 30/81 Wednesday October 6th, 2004 1:07:47 PM
"Thanks, Ilsidur. I'm feeling better." he says to the cleric. Peerimus leans heavily on Yorrick as he stands and heads into the camp towards the others.
Note to self, prepare some healing spells tomorrow.
Jason of Aisildur Wednesday October 6th, 2004 2:20:46 PM
Jason, who has been with some of the others, catches word that a book with a list of names, not orcish, has been found. He quickly finds the group who look over the book. When he hears Sly mention the two names, his heart simultaneously pounds, and then nearly breaks,
"They are my parents." he says. The paladin is a turmoil of emotion. He has found his first real clue to his parents disappearance, and yet, no sign of them. His fears are for the worst, that they were killed, and hence no sign of them in the camp itself.
"I fear harm has come to them, if they are not hear and alive, but were here once?" he says. The loyal follower of Domi then turns away for a moment, kneels, and calls to Domi to give him strength in this time of personal angst.
Settling (DM/Al) Wednesday October 6th, 2004 7:22:32 PM
*** Outside the Western Gap ***
Peerimus gives his thanks to Ilsidur. Then he weakly follows with Yorrick, moving in the direction of the camp.
Firn'gaer enters his secure shelter. Savin, just outside the threshold, looks in over the wizard's shoulder. It is just as cold in here as it is outside. It is, however, shelter from the falling snow. There is also a nice fireplace that looks like it might warm the room up nicely should it be put to use. There is comfortable room for eight human sized beings. If one happened to be large, and if another large animal and one small were added, the fit might be a bit tighter. The larger beings might have to sleep on the floor, but the shelter would still house the group with a fair degree of comfort.
*** In The Large Raider Tent ***
Shiraz looks to Ilsidur for healing, and proposes leaving for Smashed Teeth village tomorrow morning.
Sly thinks back to their search of the tents. Almost all of them are of a smaller two-man style. Except this large one in which they're standing right now. It certainly doesn't look like they'd keep slaves in here. In fact, the camp does not look set up to keep slaves at all.
Jason also drifts into the tent in Ilsidur's wake. He arrives just in time to hear Sly mention the name of his parents.
Niobe continues to examine the box, motionless, as though mesmerized.

Cold and wounded, the Children of Chaos collect themselves after a devastating battle. What lies ahead? What is this mysterious water damaged book? Why are Sly's and Jason's relatives listed within?
Savin 2d8(5+6)+3=14 Wednesday October 6th, 2004 11:09:00 PM
Savin is surprised that the others want to stay here. He will say, " I am willing to stay but you have to figure the orcs are coming back. Without the supplies in this camp, can they survive out in this bitter enviroment.
I feel we should burn all but one of the tents, enough where they can crowd in if they have to and get out of here. If we destroy everything, then they will hunt us down to take what we have. If they have a chance at surviving without taking us on, they might leave us alone to get back to the village.
I am always willing to fight, but we aren't really ready for another one. They have spell users and tough folk still among their number. We should go."
If the party decides to stay, he will look for more healing expecting a battle. If he can't get any, then he will drink down another healing potion.

Ilsidur looks over the damaged party members, and casts three more healing spells, curing Shiraz [OOC: for 21 hp], curing Firn'gaer [OOC: for 18 hp], and curing Peerimus [OOC: for 18 hp].
"I agree with Savin, we need to get going." The cleric spends a few minutes searching for the method that the orcs were using to transport all of the large items. If he finds the sleds (or whatever), he will as for help loading all of the heavy gear that they have found. "Sly, why don't you put the light stuff in your chest, and we can look them over when we rest for the night. Firn'gaer, I really think that you should have saved your shelter spell until we agreed that we were staying. Usually, we discuss things like that before we make the decision, as we are doing now."
If he can't find the sleds, he suggests that the party make rough travois from the tent poles and some of the tent cloth. "I think that the barbarians can use the oil, fish, and coal, so we should bring it with us."
"Niobe, are you going to open that box, or not?"
Shiraz AC 26 hps 48/84 Thursday October 7th, 2004 8:33:19 AM
Shiraz looks at the others, "Whatever we decide to do we need to make a decision and get moving. If we dont we will be in the snow again tonight and many of us have no nonmagical means of protection." Shiraz looks at Niobe, "Can you get it open or not? IF worse comes to worse I can always carry the blasted thing." Shiraz smiles at the young thief as she ponders the box.

Sly goes into his pocket and bring out the snuff box, (Showing Ilsidur How to operate the Ivory and Gold Chest)Opens snuff box lid, takes the little gold key, inserths the key into the little key hole and twist. 'POOOF' the chest apperes at Ilsidurs feet. "There put in what ever you want, then close it and put the snuff box into your pocket! I'm going to attend Jason."
Sly will put an arm around Jason shoulders, wait untill he is done with his prayers, then tells him "You and I are both on the same quest, I am looking for My mother White Foxx and my Sister Ruby Foxx. Jason looks to Sly,
"You are kind my friend. Domi did send me, and like family, you all have quickly become." the paladin pauses for a moment, then begins to tell Sly of his parents,
"Dajabin and Nadia are my adopted parents. My real parents I know nothing of, as I was an orphan from my first memories. My leaving the clutches of the clerics in Aisildur was, I am convinced, by the hand of Domi, as was my finding the couple who I now call father and mother." he smiles, then looks to Sly,
"I ramble. I suggest we refuel our heating gear with fresh coal, and be off. Together we will conquer the cold, just as we have the orcs." he smiles again, then turns to find and gather his equipment. Before he does, he turns back to Sly once more,
"...and if they are alive, we will find your parents...and mine."
The paladin hides the fact that he is still seriously wounded, for he knows in the morning, he may call on Domi again to help his wounds.
Sly and Luke Thursday October 7th, 2004 7:27:09 PM
"All right! Let get the coals hot and reheat our out fits." smiled sly, but jason has not fool the half elf.
Sly bends down and whispers to Luke, then tell point to Ilsidur. Luke walk in a slow gate to Ilsidur and sits in frount of him, telling "Jason Hurt, Come."
And Unsettled (DM/Al) Thursday October 7th, 2004 9:28:41 PM
Savin wanders back into the camp from the new wizard's shelter. He finds his companions gathered within the large central tent. The monk makes a case for leaving soon, and putting torch to the raiding camp.
Ilsidur agrees with Savin. While he outlines plans for just such a departure, he moves about the tent tending to the grievous wounds his friends had suffered in the battle. Part of the plan involves transportation, and the cleric leaves the tent to personally search for some means by which they could haul large items through the snow. He finds nothing that would obviously serve such a function. In the course of his search, he stops by Firn'gaer's shelter to tend to the wizard's wounds.
Sly and Jason speak of their common bond. Both with relatives, ostensibly captives of slavers. Jason wishes to be off as well. Sly opens his magic snuff box to the storage of captured items.
Shiraz watches as Niobe ponders the box. At last she moves her hand. With a single deft movement of one hand she deactivates a poison needle trap embedded in the wood next to the lock. A pair of slim picks and a quick turn of the wrist and the lock snicks open. The rogue lifts the lid and begins removing more items.
Shiraz comments that whatever they do, they should do it soon. And he may be right. The sun has surely crested it's apogee and is on it's way toward the horizon. You might have a better idea of the time, except that the snow is still falling and clouds present a thick blanket through which only a vague gray light filters from above.

Savin 52/76 hps Thursday October 7th, 2004 9:56:32 PM
Savin lights a torch and starts moving from tent to tent (the ones searched already) and lights them on fire sending a greasy smoke into the air.
He will leave the one tent behind and go to the others and say, "Its time to go. We can trade stories and look at the loot later, but lets get to safety and heal our wounds in comfort. I'm sure the barbarians in the village will be pleased with our success and fix us a nice meal.
We then can enlist them in helping us find Sly's family and giving us more supplies."
Savin will start to head back to camp and do his usual circling of the party looking for trouble.
Firn'gaer - 38/45 Thursday October 7th, 2004 10:03:47 PM
"Again my thanks." He says to the cleric. "I know it's not my place to say, but even if we left to this village I heard mention. How would we fair in the biting weather of this harsh place. I'm still wet and several of your companions as well. In minutes I can't feel my fingers I can't imaging wet and out there for longer."
He returns with Ilsidur to the large tent in the hope of being able to change into dry, warm clothes.
He address the group, "I want to thank all of you for your timing. I don't think I'd have been able to escape if you hadn't come. I know it's my place as I was telling Ilsidur, but with night falling and frostbite wouldn't it be better to stay here or in the shelter outside and leave early tomorrow with first sun?"
Peerimus - 48/81 Thursday October 7th, 2004 10:09:34 PM
Peerimus listens to all that is being discussed. "I think I have protections enough to get us to the barbarian camp, it's the night that worries me; our trail's easy enough to find in the day."
Sly and Luke Friday October 8th, 2004 6:06:59 AM
Sly listens to what the party has to say in the planning of the next move. "Savin! Don't desrtoy all of the tents, we might need the some pelts and poles to drag the big stuff to Broken Tooth village."
Then to the rest of his friends, "Now that I know that my family and Jason's family were here at one time, tells me that we are on the right path. But I'm not willing to put you people in danger to save my ego. I think it is best to go back to the village. But When is the question? Do we wait the storm out or Do we go now and take our chances with the weather?"
Put to the Torch (DM/Al) Friday October 8th, 2004 11:04:48 PM
Savin begins with the smaller two man tents on the periphery of the camp. With a ruthless sense of necessity, he sets them ablaze, and then heads back in the direction of the great body of icy water.
Firn'gaer expresses doubts about their ability to manage in the freezing wastes of Ice Vein. To this, Peerimus, a druid from both the shape-changing that he exhibited in combat and the giant bear who he keeps as company, replies that he believes that he has the ability to protect them on the journey back. His fear is not the cold. It is the dark.
Sly calls to Savin as he begins the burning. Spare some of them. We may need them to construct travois for hauling the equipment. He and Ilsidur begin taking down some of the smaller tents. Very quickly they find that this is indeed how the raiders had gotten their equipment across the ice to this site. The tent poles retain a curve at one end to provide a runner at the bottom. They slide into long sleeves sewn into the hide of the tent covering. A center pole becomes a cross brace at the bottom. Two evenly spaced hooks on either end of the center pole appear to be used to hang personal items from when used in a tent. When used on the travois, they keep the two outer poles apart. At the other end, the poles tie together, and it looks like a medium-sized person fits in the apex of this A-frame construction.
The party reconstitute three of these. The rest send a dark oily plume of smoke upward into the snow filled air.

Sly and Luke Saturday October 9th, 2004 8:30:24 AM
Sly takes a good look at the comstroction of these smaller tents, "HuH! look at these tents. . . They turn into sleds. Who said that these Orcs were dumb? Oh! Yes I did."
Then Sly look to Jason asking. "I wonder if they used slave labor to move about the country side? That means they My mother and sister are around here some place? There's must be another settlement across the lake? I wonder...If We...Could save the Big Tent? I know the Barbarians would love to have a prize like that."
Luke is curled up with Yurrick.(sleeping)
Peerimus and Yorrick 3d8(8+5+6)+5=24 d20=19 d20+20=31 Saturday October 9th, 2004 4:21:12 PM
The druid goes about filling the Haversack pouches. 4 Amulets, 1 Water logged journal, 1 Ring with clear stone, 1 small sack containing 435 gp, 27 sp, A Rod, A Ring, A Dagger, A Pearly White Spindle, Bag of 25 red stones and as much of the 5000gp as fit which should be all of it. Peerimus taps Yorrick with a wand of Cure Moderate Wounds (24) and then notes the plume. [Survival 39 forgot to add my modifier on the roll] "We should move from here. I can mask our exit, but we can not drag anything with us. Take only what we can carry, we don't and either do the barbarians need everything in this camp."
Peerimus continues, "I can protect 5 from the cold for the next 12 hours and 2 of those for 24 hours. Our new freind Firn'gaer, Yorrick, Luke, Jason and one other."
Peerimus will cast Extend Endure Elements on Yorrick and Firn'gaer, Endure elements on the rest. Assuming the group is ready to head out, he casts Pass without a Trace masking all eight of his companions for the return trip.
"We should circle out leaving from a different direction as the orcs will follow our incoming path if they return to follow at all." That said he begins to lead them home. [second survival 31]
Ilsidur Saturday October 9th, 2004 8:37:08 PM
Ilsidur responds to Peerimus, "We NEED to take these tents with us. When it gets too dark to travel, we can set them up for shelter. Many of those orcs were wearing heavy armour, and it is unlikely that they will be able or willing to follow us. I think we need to leave because they may return to their camp, but I don't expect they will chase us halfway across the Ice Vein."
Then the dwarf gathers all of the gear that they have recovered, stuffs his winter gear with the coals, packages up more warm coals in the containers provided, and dons his snowshoes, grabbing one of the makeshift tent-travois. "Shiraz, you and Sly each take one of the other travois, and lets get going. Firn'gaer, you spare off Sly as needed. Savin, you lead the way. Peerimus, you and Yorrick take up the rear and do what you can to cover our tracks."
Then Ilsidur notices the smoke curling up. "Now we really need to get going. That smoke is a beacon that can attract who knows what!"

Jason of Aisilidur Sunday October 10th, 2004 6:40:50 AM
Jason listens to all the suggestions and conversations. He says little, feeling this time calls him to be more of a follower than a leader. He will carry his share of the load. He will graciously accept any healing or other benificient spells offered.
When the group moves on, Jason discusses with Sly how he came about finding his parents missing, and shares with him how he found out the same, wondering if in this there would be some clue as to why and who exactly might be responsible.
Sly and Luke Sunday October 10th, 2004 7:29:31 AM
Sly listens to Jason story Sly will tie together a small tent and put it on his back)
Sly will tell Jason as to what happen to his village, when a bunch of boys (they hunted rabbits and wart hogs) and girls (they pick berries, nuts and fruits), the party did this every mounth for the village, beside it was good prectice for hunting. One day they went on a hunt, but when they came back to the village. Every thing and every body was gone, nothing was left, almost as if they never exested.
Luke stay around Yurrick, but not too far from Sly.

Shiraz AC 26 hps 48/84 Monday October 11th, 2004 5:38:07 AM
ooc: Sorry work got very hectic this week
Shiraz assists in loading the ivory box first, Carefully placing all of the armore first and working his way to the weapons. The huge taur then looks at Peerimus, "I disagree, between us and the barbarians we do need all of this, this is a brutal climate and whatever we bring can help us all survive." Shiraz takes the time to reload his slim heating pack with fresh coal hoping that with the coals it will keep him warm. "Peerimus I need your help with a bit of warmth as well." Shiraz then steps outside to assist in loading a travois with the coal, fish and whatever else wouldnt fit in the box.
Peerimus and Yorrick Monday October 11th, 2004 9:19:13 AM
Peerimus concedes the point on bringing as much gear as the group can muster and begins assisting in its tear down and loading.
"Of Course my big friend." Peerimus places his plam on the great taurs chest, "Mother Wold hold him close in your protective arms." [Endure Elements]
Sly and Luke Monday October 11th, 2004 12:39:34 PM
Wh-wh-What? do you mean, the coal, fish and what ever's woun't fit, Look!" Sly shows Shiraz as he puts a little tent into it. 'There and there plenty of room for more! Remember it's magic, just like a bag of holding only bigger."OH! Look there's my little Lover boy. Comming back to your master do you??" Sore enough there behind the ivory and gold trunk is the golden smiling statue of a weasel.
Luke follows Yurrick.
Niobe Monday October 11th, 2004 2:52:42 PM
Niobe moves along with the others helping cover up the tracks for the group.
On the Move (DM/Al) Monday October 11th, 2004 9:11:51 PM
Packing away the findings from the camp is not too difficult. Sly's magic chest holds up to 9 cubic feet of material. That's a lot of space. Still 13 suits of leather armor and 13 bone great axes take up a lot of space. The three travois come in handy.
Peerimus eyes the loads on the travois. To his experienced eye they should cause no added strain on the group as they march through the snow. Lending the protection of his magic to three of his companions, he sets off to chart a path across the falling snow. With his keen sense of direction, the druid swiftly identifies the direction north. The lake is some distance to the west. Smashed Teeth Village is around the curve of the lake and then some distance further north from the shore.
Peerimus looks again out into the falling snow. But how far north of the lake is the village? And how far around the lake until they turn north? Even with the shoreline as a guide, finding this would be difficult. Marching out into the open plain, in the falling snow, unfamiliar with the landmarks -if there can be said to be landmarks at all- ... This would mean trying to find the village by pure dead reckoning.
Ilsidur, Sly and Shiraz each take one of the travois. Ilsidur and Sly fit themselves into the point of the apex and pull the load behind them. Shiraz is too big to fit. He grabs the point of the A-frame travois and pulls behind him, one-handed. It throws his gait off a bit, but that doesn't seem to bother him much for now.
Jason walks with Sly, speaking of family.
Niobe helps Peerimus cover their tracks as Firn'gaer, much more comfortable with the druid's spell upon him, watches this odd little group he has fallen in with.
Savin makes sentry circuits around the traveling group. With the falling snow, and the equally falling light, moving too far away could be a good recipe for finding one's way. But, he seems alright for now. Never the less, Savin sees nothing but the hypnotic curtain of falling flakes. He hears nothing but the crunch of their boots in the freshly fallen snow.
The golden weasel refuses to be left behind.
[[ OoC ]]
To give you an idea of the difficulty of finding the village by scouting out a new route. You make a dead reckoning check every half hour. The DC is 40, possible, but very difficult. If you don't make the DC you go off track by 9 * the number of points that you're off the DC. (9*40=360)
I think that simulates the situation fairly well.
Firn'gaer - 38/45 Monday October 11th, 2004 10:50:42 PM
He follows the tracks laid before him. "Can help carry anything? I'm not the strongest, but I'd at least like to help."
"How far is the camp?" He says to the whoever will answer.
He will speak to Savin at some point during their travel to the camp. "So what do you know of this tattoo? I haven't found out really anything. I was hoping to learn more at Hook City."
Sly and Luke Tuesday October 12th, 2004 12:16:53 PM

OOC DM Al - I cannot understand your famular.
Niobe Tuesday October 12th, 2004 7:31:14 PM
Niobe continues to move along covering any tracks that she can of the groups.
Peerimus and Yorrick Tuesday October 12th, 2004 8:19:17 PM
With the falling snow and the group dragging much of the orc camp behind them, Peerimus sees no reason not to directly head for home. "I shall cover our trail as best I'm able, though I think even orcs will no where we are going. We should make the fish trap we saw by night fall. That will be our best marker of progress. We encountered the lake initially some 4 hours before the fish trap. If all else fails with Niobe's assistance, Yorrick might be able to pick up our original trail to follow back home. Even with the snow fall, and i can provide aerial assistance in the coming days too."
Savin Tuesday October 12th, 2004 8:29:14 PM
Savin will look at his own tattoo and then answer the mage's question. "It seems you have been fated to join our group. Some call us cursed, while others think of it as a blessing. We are doomed to wander around and fight evil. When we accomplish something important, occassionally we lose a tattoo. We are pawns in some kind of cosmic war, but it does keep our lives exciting!"
As the snow thickens, Savin will stay closer to the group so he doesn't lose sight of them. He will still circle them but in closer. After a couple of hours marching he will say, "I think we have come far enough for now. Let's make camp and I will prepare a nice meal. We can regain our strength and get an early start in the morning."
Shiraz Tuesday October 12th, 2004 9:28:12 PM
Shiraz pulls the travois behind him fairly easy. "I just hope we don't get lost this is the wrong climate for that to happen." Shiraz says the last with a forces smile.
A New Day (DM/Al) Tuesday October 12th, 2004 9:28:15 PM
Peerimus guides the group back toward the lake.
As The Children of Chaos move across the snow filled landscape, Firn'gaer asks about the tattoos. And Savin tells him a little about what it has been like to be with the group. The meaning he has gained from his association so far.
Sly, Ilsidur, and Shiraz continue to pull their loads. Jason walks with Sly, and they talk while Luke follows behind.
Niobe continues her work at the rear of the march, obscuring the tracks and watching for pursuit.
Darkness comes early in the falling snow and it is gray dusk by the time the group hears the groans and creaks from the ice upon the great lake. Both Peerimus and Savin call for a halt. The tents are quickly pitched, the three smaller ones and Ilsidur's as well.
Night passes with the gentle almost soundless patter of snowflakes on the tent hide above, and the eerie groaning of the ice from the nearby lake.
Come morning the snow has stopped. The hides of the tent are taut and the poles bowed precariously inward. Emerging into the frigid air, you see at least a foot of snow has fallen since the tents were set up last night. The morning, however, is gloriously sunny, and the light shines bright off the white landscape around you. The lake is some 500 feet away, and again, you are struck by the awe inspiring sight of the fields of cracked ice.
It's the start of a new day, and the only signs of civilization for leagues around ... is yourselves.
[[ Regain your allotted number of hit points for a full night's rest. ]]
Ilsidur (78/98 hp) Tuesday October 12th, 2004 10:30:38 PM
Ilsidur wakes up, and wraps his cloak around himself. He spends his hour in his morning devotions, and then restocks his heating system with some of the coal that the party had found.
The dwarf cleric makes his way outdoors, and is almost blinded by the bright, sunny day. Smiling at the other members of the Chaos Children, Ilsidur says, "I have a full series of spells, and I have concentrated on cold protection spells, so let me know if anyone is feeling any ill effects from the weather. Now, does anyone have any idea how to get back to the barbarian camp from here? Peerimus, you may need to shapechange into one of your scouting birds again. That way, you can keep an eye out to our rear as well, and see if those orcs are following us. Also, if anyone needs any healing, speak up."
Then Ilsidur packs up his tent and one of the travois tents, and dons his snowshoes, ready for another day of cold travel.
Firn'gaer Tuesday October 12th, 2004 11:08:35 PM Great...stuck out here, where ever here is...and my promising career in the guild...
"Don't mean to be critical, but do we have any idea where we are?" Firn'gaer says in frustration. He is feeling somewhat taken back by his current turn of luck.

Jason wakes with a yawn, then rolls over to see others have already gotten up. he quickly exits his bedroll and dresses. Morning prayer is done quickly, and then he is next to his friends, discussing plans.

Savin the night before will make everyone a nice hot soup to. While good, Savin complains about the lack of proper spices in this god forsaken place.
Savin will then pull out his healing kit and minister to the wounded, giving them whatever aid he can and allowing them to get 2 x their level back for a nights sleep.
In the morning, Savin will perform his usual katas, though it is tougher in the snow to get his grace. He will then look to Peerimus and ask, "So can you guide us back to the village?"
Peerimus [63-63 Endure Elements Extended] and Yorrick [53-73] d20+20=28 Wednesday October 13th, 2004 12:05:59 PM
The sun greets Peerimus sitting just outside of the tent facing east, crossed legged and smiling. He nods to Savin as he exists to begin his morning katas and to Ilsidur as the dwarf steps into the bright light, magnified by the reflective snowscape. "I can my friend, worry not on that matter." he replies to Savin.
Peerimus then falls into his own prayers of thanks and guidance to Father and Mother. Level 0: Detect magic Mending x2 Create water Guidance Purify Food and Drink

Peerimus gets up and rouses Yorrick from his slumber and casts Endure Elements on his friend. "There you go."
Then sitting to breakfast..."we turn North following the shore. The fish trap should be within a half day of here and from there another half day before we turn away from the lake which should put us on track to the village." Peerimus is quite relaxed on the whole matter and his smile constant as the sun itself. Peerimus answers everyone in turn as questions are vollied towards him..."Firn, I know exactly where we are. The trick is to find where we are going." he says with a slight mirth to his voice. "The bird is me Jason and yes I will be taking wing on this glorious day to gain a better vantage. I can do so again when we stop for lunch. And if we do not find the fish trap, we know about where it was and I can always get directions later. After midday would be a good time to ask Mother."
After breakfast Peerimus shoots Niobe a wink and whispers to Yorrick. The druid then stands and leaves the tent shifting to an eagle and taking flight bearing North in their planned direction of travel. Shortly after airborne he places an Extended Endure elements on himself. [Spot 28]
Firn'gaer & Rufus Wednesday October 13th, 2004 7:56:19 PM
"That it is, Master Peerimus. That it is." He says to the druid.
As Peerimus flies away, Firn'gaer still curious about the tattoo that has fated him to current traveling companion turns and asks "I felt a great power swell from the markings. Has that ever happened before...and does it always seem to happen when you are in...dire situations?" He chooses the last phrase carefully knowing how bad the situation seemed when he felt the power of the tattoo. Not wanting to insult any of his new found allies he felt it the wise course of actions.

Back Along the Great Lake (DM/Al) Wednesday October 13th, 2004 8:27:56 PM
The Children of Chaos greet the new day, each in their own fashion. They seem generally buoyed by the sunlight after the gray and snowy weather of the day before. And truly, the world seems to have opened to them. The sky above is enormous, a palpable presence stretching from horizon to horizon. The ice and slate gray waters of the great lake lie to the east with the sun standing not a hand above the horizon.
The tents are again converted into travois, and Peerimus leads the group north along the shoreline. To the various questions, he explains how they might find their way back to Smashed Teeth Village. All very reasonable sounding stuff.
On the way, Firn'gaer asks again about the tattoos. In particular, he asks about the sensation that he felt coming from the tattoo during the battle with the orcs.
As the Children work their way northward along the shoreline, they indeed do find a line running into the water. At the end of the line is a fishtrap. Further up the shore, they find another. And then they find a third. After the third there are no more. As they continue, the shoreline curves east, just as expected.
Though the cold of Ice Vein still pinks cheek and nose, it's deadly creeping chill does not touch the Children. This, perhaps, shows something of a mastery of the environment.
As the curve of the lakeshore turns fully toward the sun, the celestial orb stands just over halfway toward it's noonday peak.
There are no orcs in sight.
Ilsidur Wednesday October 13th, 2004 11:15:01 PM
As he travels along, Ilsidur fills Firn'gaer in about the tatoos, at least as much as he knows. "Firn'gaer, the original party, before we were known as the Children of Chaos, were responsible for ringing the Chaos bell. It is odd that none of that original party are now part of the Children. Sly has been the member the longest, with myself being the next longest. The tatoos tingle with power whenever our party is in serious danger, and we called on the power once that I remember, when we fought a powerful red dragon. To be honest, I don't think any of us really understand why we bear the mark, but so far, it has only helped us."
[OOC: Hint, Al, maybe we could figure out more about the tatoo, and what it means to be marked the way that we are?]

Return (DM/Al) Thursday October 14th, 2004 9:38:07 PM
The group continues east along the shore. Niobe watches the group's collective back. While the two oldest members engage the two newest members in conversation.
Sly speaks to Jason of his family, trying to draw more details out of the staunch paladin. And Ilsidur discusses the history and lore of the Children of Chaos with the wizard Firn'gaer.
Shiraz marches along in silence pulling his travois laden with goods from the raider camp.
Savin plays the pipes as he runs, the steam from his breath escaping into the air to fall as miniature crystals of snow that sparkle in the clear sun filled air. Soon the lower end of his pipes are covered in a sheen of ice.
Come noon, the Children of Chaos break for lunch. As cheerful as the sunlight is, eating in the subzero temperatures is not an enjoyable experience. The food hardens quickly with cold, and it must be held in the mouth for a period of time to warm and soften.
After lunch Peerimus directs the group one more hour down the shore and then turns them north. High above, he searches for traces of the village, making wide sweeps to east and west in order to ensure that they not miss their mark and wander off into the trackless wastes. The sun is not far past it's noon peak when the druid sights Smashed Teeth Village to the northwest of the party's path. Truly they had overshot the mark by just a little. And yet, that might have been the difference between survival and a frozen grave.
As those on the ground march along, Ilsidur ponders the years of memories. The broken pinwheel tattoos, the Chaos Bell, the five crone sisters ... All these years. Numerous adventures. And yet, are they really any closer to finding out what it means to be marked the way that they are?
A small group of barbarians emerge from the village and trot toward The Children as they draw near their goal. Hunt Leader Ragnar is in the lead. Six barbarians come amongst the group. The piles of raider equipment are plain to the eye. The barbarians say nothing, but they are all smiles, and there is much comradely clapping on the back. Even with the new wizard unknown to them though he might be. Even with Niobe.
"You must tell us of your triumph," Ragnar says. "Tonight. We will gather what food we can, and tonight we feast."
Savin d20+10=24 Thursday October 14th, 2004 11:10:12 PM
Savin smiles and returns the slaps on the back. As the evening approaches he requests the honor of telling of the battle.
He will stand before the fire and start the story.
" My comrades and I went forth to do battle with the orc scum. We had to travel 2 days to find their foul lair battling storm and snow along the way. We aren't used to the harshness of your climate and had to use the lessons you taught us to survive. Without them we would have surely perished. We did find their fish traps and considered destroying them but decided you could use them to help feed your young and left them in peace.
We discovered their village and tried to use use stealth to approach but alas they were ready for us and turned the ambush on us. They didn't realize what they had grabbed and bit off more blubber than they could safely chew.
Working together and willing to put our lives on the line to help our friends, we were able to rout the scum after killing many of them.
Sly saved me from certain death, Shiraz strength slew many, Isidur's bravery and tactics caused woe to the enemy. Our new friend Firn'gear, who was a prisoner of the foul folk, was able to throw off his shackles and use his magic to devastating effect. Pretty Niobe was able to scout the camp and strike blows with surprise and skill. Jason's bravery and steadfastness inspired us all. I was able to take a few of the foe down as well. Modesty unables me to say more.
But the real terror was our shaman Peerimus and his companion Yorrick. Peerimus assumed the shape of the bear and struck fear into hearts of the cowardly orcs. The two of them literaly tore orcs apart and I believe it was their ferocity that scared the rest into running.
We then gathered the spoils of war, took some of the tents to make our own and burned the rest except one. The miserable survivors will have to huddle in the one tent and think upon how their attack on this village brought such woe.
Savin will bow and take his seat. Performance storytelling roll 24
At The Feast - An Extra Post (DM/Al) Friday October 15th, 2004 10:18:17 AM
The tent, though large by village standards, is crowded. Barbarians, both men woman and children crowd together on the floor. Many are literally in each other's laps. The lighting is low within the tent, but talk and laughter fill the space with light. The barbarians seem an altogether different people indoors than they do without. Plates filled with cooked fish and meats pass from hand to hand in a continuous journey around the floor. The barbarians eat with their hands. Mugs filled from a small cask of honey mead also make the circuit around the room, all sharing from what is clearly an imported item and a rare treat.
The tent quiets as Savin rises for his recitation of the tale of the raider camp. The monk begins, and several barbarians spontaneously begin a rhythmic clapping to match his cadence. And when he finishes, the room erupts in cheers.
"Village?" the aged leader asks. The room quiets. All listen as he continues in a voice made still and even by age. "Please tell us of this place. How many tents?"
[[ OoC: If you'd like to backpost preparation and such before the feast, please feel free. ]]
Peerimus and Yorrick Friday October 15th, 2004 5:23:33 PM
The druid lands soon after spotting the village, changing to human form and redirects the group, he knows that while he is thrilled to be wandering about so impressive a scape. His companions wish to be indoors as soon as possible.
With his protection still well in place, Peerimus will assist stockpiling what they brought and invite the non magically protected group members to go inside, sit, relax and warm up.
When the work load is done he finds a small out of the way location just beyond the village to sit with Yorrick. Sitting on his feet he slowly begins chanting in a strange language to any who hear, while tracing invisible script letters before him in the air. Yorrick sits nearby, ears alert and head moving about as if actively guarding his now vulnerable friend. This lasts for a full ten minutes and then Peerimus sands slowly eyes still closed and arms wide he slowly turns in a cricle. [Cast Commune with Nature learning the following 3 things to a distance of 9 miles radius, People, Animal population, and all buildings] When it is time for the feast, Peerimus will sit near Yorrick, of course, and do his best to make the barbarians proud of his feasting skills as Savin spins the tale of thier recent journey.
When Savin mentions his part, he reaches over and gives the great bear next to him an appreciative roughing of fur on his neck. as the question of the orc camp is raised he turns his eye to Savin to encourage the monk to continue taking the lead of any questions or conversation of the past few days.
Sly and Luke Saturday October 16th, 2004 7:23:13 AM
Sly sits with his new friends (The Barbarains), Feasting and trying to answer. "Yes They almost got the better of us, But as luck was with us, We killed a numbers of them, From what I figure only a Cleric, a wizard and about five or six ran ways. From the big tent there use to be some slaves there but are no longer there. We brought back a few tents and burn the rest, they were getting ready to make war on you."
Then Sly turned to Shiraz, "Our minotaur friend Shiraz, Had takes the lead, that's why they ran away." Sly points to Shiraz.
Firn'gaer Saturday October 16th, 2004 12:02:57 PM
During the festivities, Firn'gaer just sits quietly enjoying some refreshments and a bit of tobaccoo. Being physically unimposing, he feels a little intimidated by the barbarians.
Shiraz Sunday October 17th, 2004 9:19:39 AM
Shiraz acknowledges the barbarians with a raised hand and pulls his scarf back to smile at Ragnar and the others. Shiraz takes the time to clean up after the battle and hopefully take care fo his weapons and armor. Shiraz waves Niobe over to him at the begining of the party, "May I have my ring back?" Shiraz asks with a friendly grin, "Big taurs like me don't hide so well without rings like that one." Shiraz eats and drinks as the fish and mead come around and claps in time with Savins performance.
Saviors (DM/Al) Sunday October 17th, 2004 12:45:19 PM
Peerimus sits within the tight press of bodies. At first, the barbarians had left a broad no-man's-land of unoccupied ground around his ursine friend. But, with time, and the consumption of mead, the unoccupied space shrinks to nothing. Children make their way through the seated throng to touch the great bear.
The druid thinks back to the afternoon, and his communion with the land of Ice Vein. For nine miles in all directions, he had been one with the land, filled with a cold stark beauty, light shining through a chip of ice. Within him, he had felt the barbarian clan about their daily tasks. A crew of 14 at work on a single damaged shelter, digging collapsed hide and ice out from around the stored foodstuffs underneath. Outside, the village life dies away. Even the micro-life moves in a slow glacial semblance of living. And then druid's senses reach the shores of the great lake. Here life explodes. Every sort of fish and marine mammal adapted for the harsh clime of Ice Vein makes a home beneath the slate gray surface. On the shore, a small pack of wolves hunker down in the snow as a sleek flippered animal makes a cautious foray onto the snow, drawn out by the warming rays of the sun.
Yes, there is life in Ice Vein. If one knows where to look.
Mekrenden, the aged village leader, frowns as Sly Foxx describes the raider group.
"Wizard? Clerics? Big tent?" He shares a look with Ragnar, who wears a look half way between surprise and awe. "This is not a raiding party," Mekrenden says. "It is a war party."
A whispered gasp rolls across the tent like the wind across the ice. In the silence that descends, the barbarian leader looks at each of the Children of Chaos as though to capture their image in his mind. "You have ... saved Slashed Teeth village. Such a powerful force ... we have never before seen. We ... have no way to thank you."
"You speak of slaves again." And the lines in his forehead deepen once again in a frown. "The orcs do not keep slaves. Slaves are only more mouths to feed. We know of slavers who travel Ice Vein. The orcs attack them. We too attack these slavers when we can. Often, the slavers go to Zaran City. I do not know why. We can help you. Help you to Zaran City."
The hush slowly breaks, whispered conversations join whispered conversations, and, gradually, the noisy chatter returns. The feast continues, leaving the Children of Chaos to consider the many things they had come upon within the Orc camp now know to have been a War Camp. The book with the page of names and the name at the bottom "Zaran City." The items they had collected, so many of them clearly of Ice Vein make and so many not. What to think of this? Where would this lead them? And what of the tattoos? Why had they tingled in the heat of battle and what does that mean for them?

This is the Friday Post.
This is also essentially the end of the module. I have the next module scripted out, but I have not yet gotten it into a form that I can submit for approval. I intend to spend the greater part of today doing just that.
One warning, I tend to dislike hitting you over the head with clues. So, please don't take details for granted. ^_^
Jason of Aisildur Sunday October 17th, 2004 3:43:58 PM
As everyone chatted, Jason talked with Sly.
"It is a story that is hard to discuss, for it brings out in me that which I should not feel...anger. It is a powerful emotion that could easily lead me down an unholy path." the paladin then turns directly to him,
"I came home, home as I knew it, to Windhorn Hamlet. When I arrived, something was dreadfully wrong. Both my adopted parents, Dajabin, a half-elf, and Nadia, my human mother, were missing. Noone in the town knew what had happened to them. After several weeks of searching, I came to a temple of Domi. One of the Sages there told me the two had been taken in the night, sometime earlier." Jason tries to keep his emotions in check.
"...he said they had been taken south, further south than most had ever travelled." Jason looks off into space for a moment, then continues,
"I spent months trying to find a ship to take me to this 'Southern Land', but few had heard of the place, and even less would venture into the south via sea." Jason sips some drink,
"Eventually, I wandered into the woods near Windhorn, and came upon a hermit, who called himself Unos. Unos told me that he had once heard of a man named Nebin who went into the forest and never returned. Rumor had had it that the man was transported to a foreign and exotic land to the south. It was the only hope I had. Unos told me where Nebin had been last seen, so I went there. After many days and nights of searching I came upon a cave, and within it a strange statue. I touched it, and well...here I am."
Jason waited for Sly's reaction, knowing it might be the typical skeptical and bewildered face of the those few whom the paladin had told the story to.
Savin Sunday October 17th, 2004 7:24:22 PM
Savin bows to the leader of the barbarian clan and says, "No thanks are necessary. Didn't you open your hearts and home to us when we were freezing upon the plains? Didn't you teach us how to survive in this harsh enviroment?
We were only to glad to find and destroy this war party. We were repaying a debt to you. Now we have repaid it and we can exist as true friends without anything owed between us. This is good no?
If you could show us how to get to this Zaran City and anything else you know about it, we will be on our way soon. My friends Sly and Jason are still trying to track down missing family and we found some clues in the war camp."
After the party slows down, Savin will pull out his haversack and start pulling out some of the loot that he stashed there. "Can one of you wizard types, tell if any of this is magical? We should check all of it together."
Peerimus and Yorrick d20+17=25 Monday October 18th, 2004 10:09:51 AM
Peerimus quickly begins to feel at home as the crowd increases about him, thankful these naturally curious people can so readily overcome any trepidation of Yorrick. He keeps a calming hand on the bear as the children approach to touch the 'exotic' animal [Handle 25].
Zaran City hmmm. Good, perhaps we can finally develop a warm trail on Sly's and now Jason's family. Peerimus idly rubs the back of his hand. and you my little mystery, why was the mark burning so. The Orc leader, shaman and wizard were heavily in the fight when it started. They are connected to Zaran City and perhaps that is the connection, or perhaps a call that we finish what is now started. The leader said they could never defeat a force as we routed, but the leadership of that force all escaped.
Peerimus returns his thoughts to the moment deciding to ponder more on this later, for now it was a time to celebrate and relax.
Sly and Luke Monday October 18th, 2004 12:51:09 PM
Sly listen to every word that Jason is telling him. The more detail he gives Sly, the better the mental picture get clearer, When Jason finishes his rendation of the happenings. Sly Smiles "By the Beard of Domi, I think I'm beginning to put the peaces together??
You see Jason, my village are mostly elves or half elves. Don't you see! They kidnap Elven blooded people! Why I don't know, But I do know that our parents are not dead! Elves are magical creatures. They can suvive this cold.
I'm glad you told me about your parents, Now our next step is that we must go to Zaran. Jason, We're getting closer! Now enjoy your self, anger will only weight your mind down.
Besides Look what you did back there! You help save all the people of Slashed Teeth Village. They were going to war with these people, just because Orcs and Ogers are canibals."
Life Goes On (DM/Al) Monday October 18th, 2004 9:28:26 PM
The feast winds down. Villagers head off to their own respective tents in twos, threes and fours. The Children of Chaos have their own tent. The same one they were assigned upon their earlier arrival at Smashed Teeth village. Outside, the night air is crisp and glows with the light of a million and one stars. To the south, the storm no longer rages. The colored lights, however still remain, a rippling ribbon over the distant mountains.
Jason and Sly continue to compare notes. Jason's tale of magic does not cause the fighter-mage an eye bat. Rather, he tosses out theories, speculating as to why their relatives of all the people in the world, might have ended up in this desolate corner of the Wold, apparently kidnapped by the same group.
Peerimus, also ponders the riddle. He places the pieces of the puzzle on his mental map, comparing the fit as he places different parts next to each other. Sly and Jason's families, the orcs, Zaran City, the broken pinwheel tattoos on the backs of their own hands.
Savin takes the practical approach, asking for directions, and, late into the night, attending to the disposition of the things taken from the raider camp.
Morning comes, as another always must. The new day brings another cycle in the work day of the barbarians of Smashed Teeth village. There is hunting, the repair of the food cache tent, the rearing of children, the preparation of food, and the never ending maintenance of tools, clothing, and shelter.
The Children are welcomed with smiles and rare spoken greetings. And, yet, the barbarians are too busy to spare them much time. They are welcome in Smashed Teeth village for as long as they wish to stay. The offer of a way to Zaran City also stands.
Ilsidur Tuesday October 19th, 2004 12:12:56 AM
[OOC: Everyone can be healed by Ilsidur before last night's celebration.]
Ilsidur wakes up after the feasting and celebration, and makes his way over to Savin. "Thank you for your eloquent words. You have a flair with language, better than many of the rest of us." Then the cleric moves outside to greet the morning, and say his devotions in the cold morning air. Maybe he is becoming more used to the climate? Not likely; instead, he just needs to burn a few calories from last night's feasting.
Upon re-entering the party's tent, he looks around and says, "Before we make our way to this Zaran City, lets relieve ourselves of the items that we have collected from the orc raiders. Can any of you appraise these items? I will check for magical auras." he and Sly work together to lay out all of the collected items, and he casts detect magic on the large pile, concentrating on each item in turn.
"Savin, can you and Jason ask around the barbarian camp for any information that they have about Zaran City? And please be sure to thank them for last night's hospitality. We can donate the food items, and much of the coal to the camp, don't you think?"
Shiraz Tuesday October 19th, 2004 8:18:49 AM
Shiraz shakes his head at the name Zaran City, not recognizing it at all. Feeling fresh and relaxed after a day and a half of inactivity the taur pulls out each of his swords and carefully cleans and sharpens each of them. Shiraz then spends a equal ammount of time on his armor and shield. Taking the time to get properly and fully dressed Shiraz rejoins his friends as they discuss the next leg of the journey. "I agree we should donate all we can to this village and hopefully along the way we can fins a city or town with access to the catacombs for restocking on our journey."
Savin Tuesday October 19th, 2004 8:48:39 AM
Savin will nod at Ilsidur's suggestion and pick up one of the 13 finely crafted bone greataxes and wave it around a few times. He says to anyone willing to listen, "This seems like a nice weapon but it is so heavy. Once you get inside, the wielder is helpless. Course getting inside can be a challenge somethimes. Still it makes life interesting."
He trots off to find Mekrenden and asks for an audience politely with the barbarian leader. He will present the axe and say, "The Children of Choas want to thank you and your people for your hospitality last night and during our entire stay here.
We could not think of a better tribute than a well crafted weapon taken from the dead hand of the enemies of your tribe. Please except this small gift from us and place it on the walls of your lodge so you might remember us fondly."
Savin will hand the axe over and then continue, We would like to stay one more day and then move on to Zaran City. You offered aid in finding the city. We would like to accept your kind offer. Can you provide us a guide to the city?"
Sly and Luke Tuesday October 19th, 2004 12:37:17 PM
Sly help Ilsidur with items to be identafied,he watches Ilsidure cast his spells, "You know i've been watching you caseting your spell. I remember my mother doing the almost the same thing, when we boys found some odd trinkets. I bet if I llook into my book I'll be able to help you?"
As an after though he also tell Ilsidure that maybe we should tell the hunting party as to where those fish traps are. What do you think? If they cannot find meat, they can have fish."
Sly is very found of Ilsidure, the dwarf is more like a big brother that he never had. Sly's though goes back to his mother and sister.
Luke seem to sence Sly's daydream and stick his cold nose in his face.
Peerimus and Yorrick Tuesday October 19th, 2004 2:05:04 PM
Yorrick remains in the tent and sleeping as Peerimus exits to a frosty greeting of morning air. He inhales deeply feeling the frigid air assault his lungs and breaks into a fit of coughs. Recovering he waves Savin off, "I am alright my friend."
He moves off a bit, placing an Extended Endure Elements Cold on himself and goes into his dawn prayers, facing the rising sun. A thought fom the feast of last night and the abundant life of the sea nearby and the druid asks Mother Wold to supply him with the ability to repay the outlay of food [3 Snare spells at 3rd, 3 snare spells Ht to 4]
As the activity of the village comes to life, Yorrick sleeps and Peerimus goes to find Ragnar to explain his plan. Peerimus would like 6 coils of rope 50-100' in length, and 2 of the Villagers with spikes and hammers to come with him to the lake shore. Once there, one end of each rope is secured on land and Peerimus shifts to an eagle to carry the other as far out as possible, Cast Snare and drop it to the water below. The villagers could then return and Peerimus will stay with the snare until they are tripped. If the creature is beyond his strength as a Rhino he will revert to eagle to sail back for help.
Peerimus will again cast Commune with Nature a few hours after midday at the lakeshore, if nothing else than to feel the comforting arms of Mother Wold about him.
Work Day (DM/Al) d100=82 d100=59 d100=99 d100=58 d100=8 d100=37 Tuesday October 19th, 2004 10:12:05 PM
The Children of Chaos prepare their gear for the trek to Zaran City.
There is much talk of donations to the village. Savin takes the lead in this and offers one of the finely crafted bone great axes to the old village headman, Mekrenden. The aged barbarian takes the weapon from Savin with both hands. He runs a weather worn finger over the finely worked bone.
"You may stay for as long as you wish, Wind from the Plains. Also, as you wish, we will give you one of our young ones as a guide." The old man hesitates.
"The young ... must someday go. And, if he returns, he will be that much more a man."
"I will also draw you a map. I, of few in this village, have learned the magic of writing. I will provide this for you. Thank you, Wind from the Plains. For the gift."
Meanwhile, Peerimus, proposes an unusual foray to the hunt leader, Ragnar. The is silent, but clearly dubious. Still, he nods is ascent. He, and six others, make the one hour journey to the shores of the great lake. The barbarians remain to watch as the ropes are set in the water. They exchange looks among themselves. Their eyes alone are enough to communicate their doubt to each other. Catch the flashing seal with only a rope in the water?
The first rope jerks, and hunt leader Ragnar leaps to his feet as the line plays swiftly into the water.
Within two hours, a large tusked walrus, two seals, a small fish, a large fish, and a medium sized orca are pulled ashore.
Tired, but happy, the small hunting party sends back to the village for a larger party, to handle the equally difficult work of processing the kills into food and hides.
Ilsidur, spends the morning with the captured items. He easily separates the magic items from the more mundane. Yet, he lacks the craft of magic to identify the auras each magic item possess. Sly Fox, on the other hand, though he lacks the concentration to study to maintain the spell for a prolonged period of time, once the number of items is reduced in size, he is able to determine the schools of magic from which the items were born.

Sly and Luke Wednesday October 20th, 2004 9:24:50 AM
"WoW! that has taken a low out of me, But I hope I help a little bit." Sly look at Ilsidure "I have to study for new spell, renew some older one, take care of my equiptment and try to be a better wizars and fighter." Sly goes to get ready. "Come Luke!"
Luke at Sly, then tells him "Want to play with children."
Sly is suprised Luke sentances are getting longer and starting to make disisions on his own.
Firn'gaer Wednesday October 20th, 2004 9:33:54 AM
Being the new guy, he is not sure of his place as the others prepare for the next journey. He seems to wander around without purpose both trying to stay out of the way, but waiting for someone to tell him something.
"I can identify magic. Though my component case only has enough for a few spells. This would also take a few days."
Ilsidur Wednesday October 20th, 2004 5:13:55 PM
Ilsidur nods to Sly. "You definitely should tell this tribe about the fish traps. They may contain food fish that the tribe can use, and if they are not tended, then they just end up catching and killing fish for no reason."
Ilsidur stands from examining all of the itmes, and says to Firn'gaer, "Based on what young Sly has had to say about the power in the items, I think that it might be worthwhile for us to know about the magic contained in the rod, the ring and the white spindle. What do you think?"
Then he asks around, "Can anyone tell if these non-magical items are any more valuable than their normal counterparts? And what are gems worth, and these bone chips with the symbols?" [OOC: Al, can I assume that "finely crafted" means masterwork? Or does someone need to appraise those items, as well?]
Lastly, Ilsidur carefully looks through the fish, the casks of oil, and the coal, to make sure that some sneaky had not hid any valuables in them. Once he is finished, and cleaned up, he presents these items to the barbarians, saying, "Some of this food we will take with us when we leave for trail rations, but most of it should stay here for your use. Also, the extra coal can be used here, as well."
Life Goes On (DM/Al) Wednesday October 20th, 2004 10:14:31 PM
The children of the village seem to feel the effects of the cold much more readily than the adults. And, as a consequence, they spend more time indoors. There seem to be no rules as to where the barbarian children are allowed to enter and where they are not.
Several different groups of children accidentally enter the group's tent. The first, seeing Ilsidur, Sly and Firn'gaer at work amidst the piles of weapons, armor, and other gear, stops stock still. Quiet and self conscious, they shuffle their way back out of the tent without a word.
The second group, are startled as well. They scream excitedly and rush back out the tent flap. This becomes a game, and they make several successive appearances, sneaking back in and then screaming in mock terror they rush back outside again.
Later, a group of older children enter. They appear quieter, more watchful, and they seem to enter with full knowledge that the Saviors occupy this tent. Unself-consciously, they take seats and watch. Two girls settle next to Luke. After a short exchange in the barbarian language, one finally reaches out to touch Luke's shoulder.
A young boy spots tiny dark eyes peering from within the folds of Firn'gaer's clothing. He motions to two of his friends and points.
The process of cataloging and identifying the items is tedious. But it progresses. The mundane objects actually seem to cause the most problem. On the surface some of them seem quite well made, masterworks made with the loving care that only hours inside and out of the cold can bring. Still, the only way one can truly be sure, is with deep and considered appraisal.
Savin Wednesday October 20th, 2004 11:33:06 PM
Savin bows to the leader and says, "I like the sound of that name. "Wind of the Plains." Might I ask where you came up with it? Is it for the entire group or just me?" He adds with a smile, "Does it mean I talk to much?"
Shiraz Thursday October 21st, 2004 7:30:08 AM
Shiraz walks in and watches Ilsidur and Sly work through the huge pile of items and objects. The two friends carefully looking over each item then setting it down in its appropriate pile. "Sly?" Shiraz asks quietly so as to not disturbe either too much, "Mind if I take Luke outside, poor guy as got to be getting bored watching you two." Shiraz says the last with a smile and steps around to look at the growing stacks of mundane and magical treasure. "Wow." Shiraz mutters. "Ilsidur if you wish I can begin taking the coal, fish and oil to the lodge tent so it can be used as necessary."
Sly and Luke Thursday October 21st, 2004 7:50:33 AM
Sly takes a parchment paper, start to make a map as to where those fishing trap are. When he is finishes he notice the older children sitting around, just watching them. Sly gets an idea, he want to make these children feel important (like the elders in his village, giving the task of hunting for the old and the wodows of the village.)
Sly takes a scroll (of preservation), unrolls the scroll, touches the map and chants "reveroF egamI". He turn to the older boys, telling them, "This is a map of a place where there are traps of fishes, I have made this map of where they are, and made the map magic so it will last forever. Here that this map to the head hunter and if you people ever run out of meat to eat. You'll all have tasty fish to eat."
Sly will watch for their reactions.
Luke is sitting next to Sly, watching all the events, when he is touch by a young girl. Luke turns asking her (in her Barnarian Language)"Want Play?"
Sly smiles telling Shiraz "I think Luke just made a friends with these two girls. He just spoke to them in their own language. We'll see what happens? maybe he'll go with you insted."
Jason of Aisildur Thursday October 21st, 2004 8:46:40 AM
Jason follows along with the group. His mind, however, is elsewhere. Ever since the book with the names of his parents was found, he has been struggling to concentrate on anything but.
Anxious to prepare and head out to Zaran City, Jason does all that he can in the way of manual labor to expedite their leaving.
Moving to those who divy the loot, the paladin declares,
"I will take little, for Domi demands I keep little of this world. I would take my share, as deemed appropriate, of the gold and gems, so that I may donate to the glory of Domi, and the rest I will keep to save for the future." he states, then moves on to help any who need it.
Peerimus and Yorrick Thursday October 21st, 2004 10:06:32 AM
Yorrick slumbers on, taking advantage of the lull in activity.
Peerimus helps with 'the catch' and returns with a very large grin on his face as the idea paid off well.
At the village, he will seek to make himself as useful as possible. With a pair of Mending spells, he first heads to the damaged area of the Village from the attack several days ago.
Peerimus will occupy himself with assisting throughout the Village wherever he can. The others have things well in hand and he could be of little assistance anyway.
Firn'gaer & Rufus Thursday October 21st, 2004 12:29:04 PM
Finally given some direction, Firn'gaer goes to work on the suggested items- rod, ring and white spindle. It will require eight hours of work on each of the items, but given the relative lack of danger in the area he goes to work.
As he works, he notices the interest in Rufus.
Come on out and let them see you.
I will not. I'm not feeling particularly friendly...I don't like the cold.
I don't either; too bad do it anyway.
Fine...Look it's Rufus the dancing monkey playing to the crowds...
Rufus comes out and sits on Firn'gaer shoulder. He sits there for a couple of minutes playing for the children before scurrying back to the warmth in Firn'gaers clothes.
Happy now. I played my part and I cold. Next time you do it.
The Evening Before (DM/Al) Thursday October 21st, 2004 9:27:11 PM
Afternoon moves across the sky to evening. The village is abuzz with news of the sudden surplus of food, not to mention the generous donations of coal and, what the barbarians have identified as an oil taken from the fat of whales. When Shiraz brings it into the central lodge, the women there explain in halting common, that oil has myriad uses from lamps, to cooking, to tanning, to aiding in the cure of frostbite.
Savin recalls the old village headman's reply to his question of the morning, "I like the sound of that name. 'Wind of the Plains.' Might I ask where you came up with it? Is it for the entire group or just me?"
The elderly barbarian smiles at the jest and replies, "Ragnar has spoken of your speed. It is he who has said that you run like the wind across the plains."
Sly and Firn'gaer remain among the children. Sly draws a map to the fishtraps. Despite his lack of knowledge of Geography, it's not a bad map. Certainly good enough to get the barbarians into the area. He pretends to enchant the map and tells a little boy that it's now magic. The boy is so amazed at the map itself that he seems not to care. He runs out of the tent with the map in one gloved hand.
Luke pretends to speak in the barbarian tongue. He says a few words, and the two girls next to him cover their mouths and giggle.
Peerimus bustles around the village.
Firn'gaer spends the day preparing the items with the strongest items for scrutiny of a little higher level magic.
Jason, can barely contain his eagerness to move on. Somewhere in this frozen waste his adopted parents lie in possible peril. Perhaps this is the reason that he was transported to this desolate land. Perhaps not, but the answers lie elsewhere. And they were not getting there by sitting in a tent all day.
[[ OoC ]] I don't see any pearls in your inventory, Firn'gaer. Also, casting time for Identify is only One hour in 3.5. But you can only ID one item per spell. And it takes a pearl for each spell.
Appraise can be used untrained. Aide Another effects stack.

Savin will listen closely to the ladies as they explain the use of the oils. He will ask for some, to add to his healing kit.
He will then say to the ladies, "May I join you around the cookfires tonight to help perpare the feast? I have training in such areas and truly enjoy learning new cooking styles."
Savin will put his expertise to the meal that night hopefully improving the fair with some of his spices from his cooking kit. Rolled 19 for cooking.
