Sly and Luke
Wednesday October 20th, 2004 9:24:50 AM

"WoW! that has taken a low out of me, But I hope I help a little bit." Sly look at Ilsidure "I have to study for new spell, renew some older one, take care of my equiptment and try to be a better wizars and fighter." Sly goes to get ready. "Come Luke!"

Luke at Sly, then tells him "Want to play with children."

Sly is suprised Luke sentances are getting longer and starting to make disisions on his own.

Firn'gaer
Wednesday October 20th, 2004 9:33:54 AM

Being the new guy, he is not sure of his place as the others prepare for the next journey. He seems to wander around without purpose both trying to stay out of the way, but waiting for someone to tell him something.

"I can identify magic. Though my component case only has enough for a few spells. This would also take a few days."

Ilsidur
Wednesday October 20th, 2004 5:13:55 PM

Ilsidur nods to Sly. "You definitely should tell this tribe about the fish traps. They may contain food fish that the tribe can use, and if they are not tended, then they just end up catching and killing fish for no reason."

Ilsidur stands from examining all of the itmes, and says to Firn'gaer, "Based on what young Sly has had to say about the power in the items, I think that it might be worthwhile for us to know about the magic contained in the rod, the ring and the white spindle. What do you think?"

Then he asks around, "Can anyone tell if these non-magical items are any more valuable than their normal counterparts? And what are gems worth, and these bone chips with the symbols?" [OOC: Al, can I assume that "finely crafted" means masterwork? Or does someone need to appraise those items, as well?]

Lastly, Ilsidur carefully looks through the fish, the casks of oil, and the coal, to make sure that some sneaky had not hid any valuables in them. Once he is finished, and cleaned up, he presents these items to the barbarians, saying, "Some of this food we will take with us when we leave for trail rations, but most of it should stay here for your use. Also, the extra coal can be used here, as well."

Life Goes On (DM/Al)
Wednesday October 20th, 2004 10:14:31 PM

The children of the village seem to feel the effects of the cold much more readily than the adults. And, as a consequence, they spend more time indoors. There seem to be no rules as to where the barbarian children are allowed to enter and where they are not.

Several different groups of children accidentally enter the group's tent. The first, seeing Ilsidur, Sly and Firn'gaer at work amidst the piles of weapons, armor, and other gear, stops stock still. Quiet and self conscious, they shuffle their way back out of the tent without a word.

The second group, are startled as well. They scream excitedly and rush back out the tent flap. This becomes a game, and they make several successive appearances, sneaking back in and then screaming in mock terror they rush back outside again.

Later, a group of older children enter. They appear quieter, more watchful, and they seem to enter with full knowledge that the Saviors occupy this tent. Unself-consciously, they take seats and watch. Two girls settle next to Luke. After a short exchange in the barbarian language, one finally reaches out to touch Luke's shoulder.

A young boy spots tiny dark eyes peering from within the folds of Firn'gaer's clothing. He motions to two of his friends and points.

The process of cataloging and identifying the items is tedious. But it progresses. The mundane objects actually seem to cause the most problem. On the surface some of them seem quite well made, masterworks made with the loving care that only hours inside and out of the cold can bring. Still, the only way one can truly be sure, is with deep and considered appraisal.

Savin
Wednesday October 20th, 2004 11:33:06 PM

Savin bows to the leader and says, "I like the sound of that name. "Wind of the Plains." Might I ask where you came up with it? Is it for the entire group or just me?" He adds with a smile,
"Does it mean I talk to much?"

Shiraz
Thursday October 21st, 2004 7:30:08 AM

Shiraz walks in and watches Ilsidur and Sly work through the huge pile of items and objects. The two friends carefully looking over each item then setting it down in its appropriate pile. "Sly?" Shiraz asks quietly so as to not disturbe either too much, "Mind if I take Luke outside, poor guy as got to be getting bored watching you two." Shiraz says the last with a smile and steps around to look at the growing stacks of mundane and magical treasure. "Wow." Shiraz mutters. "Ilsidur if you wish I can begin taking the coal, fish and oil to the lodge tent so it can be used as necessary."

Sly and Luke
Thursday October 21st, 2004 7:50:33 AM

Sly takes a parchment paper, start to make a map as to where those fishing trap are. When he is finishes he notice the older children sitting around, just watching them. Sly gets an idea, he want to make these children feel important (like the elders in his village, giving the task of hunting for the old and the wodows of the village.)

Sly takes a scroll (of preservation), unrolls the scroll, touches the map and chants "reveroF egamI". He turn to the older boys, telling them, "This is a map of a place where there are traps of fishes, I have made this map of where they are, and made the map magic so it will last forever. Here that this map to the head hunter and if you people ever run out of meat to eat. You'll all have tasty fish to eat."

Sly will watch for their reactions.

Luke is sitting next to Sly, watching all the events, when he is touch by a young girl. Luke turns asking her (in her Barnarian Language)"Want Play?"

Sly smiles telling Shiraz "I think Luke just made a friends with these two girls. He just spoke to them in their own language. We'll see what happens? maybe he'll go with you insted."

Jason of Aisildur
Thursday October 21st, 2004 8:46:40 AM

Jason follows along with the group. His mind, however, is elsewhere. Ever since the book with the names of his parents was found, he has been struggling to concentrate on anything but.

Anxious to prepare and head out to Zaran City, Jason does all that he can in the way of manual labor to expedite their leaving.

Moving to those who divy the loot, the paladin declares,

"I will take little, for Domi demands I keep little of this world. I would take my share, as deemed appropriate, of the gold and gems, so that I may donate to the glory of Domi, and the rest I will keep to save for the future." he states, then moves on to help any who need it.

Peerimus and Yorrick
Thursday October 21st, 2004 10:06:32 AM

Yorrick slumbers on, taking advantage of the lull in activity.

Peerimus helps with 'the catch' and returns with a very large grin on his face as the idea paid off well.

At the village, he will seek to make himself as useful as possible. With a pair of Mending spells, he first heads to the damaged area of the Village from the attack several days ago.

Peerimus will occupy himself with assisting throughout the Village wherever he can. The others have things well in hand and he could be of little assistance anyway.

Firn'gaer & Rufus
Thursday October 21st, 2004 12:29:04 PM

Finally given some direction, Firn'gaer goes to work on the suggested items- rod, ring and white spindle. It will require eight hours of work on each of the items, but given the relative lack of danger in the area he goes to work.

As he works, he notices the interest in Rufus.

Come on out and let them see you.

I will not. I'm not feeling particularly friendly...I don't like the cold.

I don't either; too bad do it anyway.

Fine...Look it's Rufus the dancing monkey playing to the crowds...

Rufus comes out and sits on Firn'gaer shoulder. He sits there for a couple of minutes playing for the children before scurrying back to the warmth in Firn'gaers clothes.

Happy now. I played my part and I cold. Next time you do it.

The Evening Before (DM/Al)
Thursday October 21st, 2004 9:27:11 PM

Afternoon moves across the sky to evening. The village is abuzz with news of the sudden surplus of food, not to mention the generous donations of coal and, what the barbarians have identified as an oil taken from the fat of whales. When Shiraz brings it into the central lodge, the women there explain in halting common, that oil has myriad uses from lamps, to cooking, to tanning, to aiding in the cure of frostbite.

Savin recalls the old village headman's reply to his question of the morning, "I like the sound of that name. 'Wind of the Plains.' Might I ask where you came up with it? Is it for the entire group or just me?"

The elderly barbarian smiles at the jest and replies, "Ragnar has spoken of your speed. It is he who has said that you run like the wind across the plains."

Sly and Firn'gaer remain among the children. Sly draws a map to the fishtraps. Despite his lack of knowledge of Geography, it's not a bad map. Certainly good enough to get the barbarians into the area. He pretends to enchant the map and tells a little boy that it's now magic. The boy is so amazed at the map itself that he seems not to care. He runs out of the tent with the map in one gloved hand.

Luke pretends to speak in the barbarian tongue. He says a few words, and the two girls next to him cover their mouths and giggle.

Peerimus bustles around the village.

Firn'gaer spends the day preparing the items with the strongest items for scrutiny of a little higher level magic.

Jason, can barely contain his eagerness to move on. Somewhere in this frozen waste his adopted parents lie in possible peril. Perhaps this is the reason that he was transported to this desolate land. Perhaps not, but the answers lie elsewhere. And they were not getting there by sitting in a tent all day.

[[ OoC ]]
I don't see any pearls in your inventory, Firn'gaer. Also, casting time for Identify is only One hour in 3.5. But you can only ID one item per spell. And it takes a pearl for each spell.

Appraise can be used untrained. Aide Another effects stack.

Savin  d20+9=19
Thursday October 21st, 2004 10:41:20 PM

Savin will listen closely to the ladies as they explain the use of the oils. He will ask for some, to add to his healing kit.

He will then say to the ladies, "May I join you around the cookfires tonight to help perpare the feast? I have training in such areas and truly enjoy learning new cooking styles."

Savin will put his expertise to the meal that night hopefully improving the fair with some of his spices from his cooking kit. Rolled 19 for cooking.

Sly and Luke
Friday October 22nd, 2004 8:08:45 AM

Sly watches the male teenagers clutches the parchment like a piece of gold, then off they go. Sly turns to Firn'gaer "See how happy they are? It's worth everyting I went through just to see these children... No!not children anymore. These Almost Adult now feel that they can be usfull in this tribe.

I drew the map of what I saw and as close of what I remember. I'm not a map maker, but it will get then to the lake. If they follow along the shore, they will find those ropes that leads to the traps. And my magic was only oily wax to preserve the parchment. Oh! how I remember the first time us teen agers in my small village, when out hunting for the old and the widows. Boy did we ever feel all grown up, and we did learn a lot."

Sly snaps out of his day dream, he turns his attention to Firn'gaer, "Well my New friend, Tell me all about your self."

Luke lick the girls faces again and utters "Ahh! mon Amor!"

Night Falls on the Day Before (DM/Al)
Saturday October 23rd, 2004 10:16:14 AM

Savin leaves the Mekrenden and follows Shiraz as he moves some of the captured stores to the barbarian tents. He overhears the talk of oil and inquires as to its medicinal properties. The women exchange perplexed looks. What to do without neither the vocabulary nor the concepts of moisturizing skin? Finally, one simply rubs some oil on her bare arm and smiles at Savin, looking up into his eyes for signs of comprehension.

That evening, in the cooking tent, Savin finds that he has much more to offer the barbarians in the way of culinary diversity than they offer him. There is a dark greenish-black powder that the women seem to use on everything. It tastes heavily of salt. The women, for their part, huddle around, tasting the various dishes that the monk prepares. Some of them smile. Some grimace. All laugh with delight.

The children draw childhood memories from Sly Foxx as the sight of children is wont to do. Or perhaps the memories come because his mother and sister are so near. And yet, where they are and how they fare is still shrouded in dark mystery. So near, and yet so far. He turns to the new wizard, Firn'gaer, and attempts to engage him in conversation.

Luke, popular with the girls, grins a doggy grin.

The perpetual twilight returns, the bright starry canopy and dancing southern lights over the white landscape of Ice Vein. Tomorrow is the day proposed for the group's departure for Zaran City. Many of the items taken from the orc raiders remain a mystery. Much of the armor and weaponry is large and cumbersome. And yet, the Children still have the captured travois. What reason can there be for not taking it along?

[[ OoC ]]
This is the Friday Post.

Leaving in the morning, right? Your call, though.

I'll give you one shot at the Catacombs, IC. This will be courtesy of a Dues Ex Machina. You'll know it when you see it. Only one shot. Be ready for it.

For the new people, there often is something of a lag time between modules while the group sorts out loot, has some downtime, and sorts personal rp items. Duration varies. Patience please.

Jason of Aisildur
Saturday October 23rd, 2004 2:49:13 PM

Jason spends the evening in meditation and prayer. The trials ahead, he had no doubt, would be more challenging than those he has already faced, and for this he had to prepare.

Upon ending his devotions, he begins the labourous but welcomed task of cleaning his sword and armor. It was a paladin's pride and duty to keep his things in the best shape possible, and Jason was no exception to this.

Sly and Luke
Sunday October 24th, 2004 9:05:27 AM

Sly listen to Fun'gar, while he takes care of his armor, his beloved special sword and shield. Sly ask Fun'gar, "Are you not a Wizard? I have a book of Magic, you know what ever I have pick up along the way. Want to see what you could need??"

Luke gives the girls (what looks like a smile) tell them, "Ahh! Bella! Bella!"

Firn'gaer
Sunday October 24th, 2004 9:48:18 AM

His eyebrow raises, "Book of magic, you say." He says at Sly comment. "Would you like to have some wine? Come sit and let us look at his magic book, shall we?"

He pulls out a bottle of wine and finds a quiet place for he and Sly to look over the book.

Peerimus and Yorrick
Monday October 25th, 2004 10:52:27 AM

Peerimus beds down early against the warm fur of Yorrick. The next few days would be long.

Morning finds him sitting in the newly rising rays of the sun. Crossed legged and arms folded across his chest he breathes deeply, watching Savin for a time before falling into his own meditations. Musing to himself It is strangely odd how relaxing to me Savin morning Kantas are. I wonder if he knows this. Catching Savin's eye, the druid smiles and nods and then his eyes close and he starts his own prayers.

Sly and Luke
Monday October 25th, 2004 2:00:54 PM

Sly and Fun'gar sits up most of the night, he shows his friend his magic book. In this book he has about 6 level 0 Spells (Acid Splash - Detect Magic - Read Magic - Ray of Frost - Mage Hand - Touch Fatigue), 6 level 1 Spells (Protection from Chaos/Evil - Burning Hands - Magic Missils - Shocking Grasp - Chill Touch - Feather Fall), 6 level 2 Spells (Melf Acid Arrows - Web - Flaming Sphere - Scorhing Ray - Levitate - Spider Climb), and 3 level Spells (Heroism - Fireball - Lightning Bolts). They readed way intio the night. They finally wet to bed.

In the morning Sly rises and washes his face, makes sure everything is pack and now he's ready to go.

Luke went to sleep in the Sly's bedrole. Luke drag the sleeping bag to Sly and put it down next to him. " Pack this." said Luke.

Frin'gaer
Monday October 25th, 2004 8:47:10 PM

Firn'gaer sits in his shelter taking his time to wake from the cold night. He sits up still wrapped in furs.

I hate the cold. By the gods, I hate the cold.

He sits and becomes engrossed in his thoughts drifting back to his home in South Harbor.

I wish I knew more. This..these marks...such power... He looks at his tattoo. Until I know more how can I bring such a danger home...it destroyed a dragon...what should I do?

He just sits.

*********************

Later, he will once again prepare spells for the day and cast his extended mage armor.

The Appointed Day? (DM/Al)
Monday October 25th, 2004 9:02:46 PM

The Children of Chaos wake to a new morning. Peerimus wakes to another day of cloudless clear fridge blue skies. He watches Savin perform his morning exercises, steam rolling from his mouth like smoke from a green fire.

Jason is ready. His armor polished to a shine that would rival that of his honor.

Sly Foxx, despite a late night up with Firn'gaer going over spellbooks is up for the day ahead as well.

Firn'gaer sits apart vexed by the cold. And the unknown. Can these people help him solve the riddle of the mark on the back of his hand? Can they possibly do it in this isolated barbarian village?

Ilsidur, however, is strongly silent. As is Shiraz. And Niobe, uncharacteristically unseen, as though hiding from the light of day.

Savin
Monday October 25th, 2004 10:49:20 PM

Savin will pose this question to the others, "It seems it is time to move on. Do we want to lug all of the well made weapons and armor with us? Or should we leave them behind?

Maybe we can ask the chief if we can leave them here temporarily. If we return, we pick them up, if we don't, the clan benefits. We take the magic with us as it is less cumbersome. Does everyone agree?"

Sly and Luke
Monday October 25th, 2004 11:40:18 PM

"I agree! We take the Magic with us, you can put it in my Chest if you want or see if we have a bag of holding? Except is there a belt among the armor? I would likr to take one for Luke."ask Sly.

Luke asks Sly. "Why?"

Sly answers, "I have some thing in minds for you."

Ilsidur
Tuesday October 26th, 2004 1:14:08 AM

Ilsidur answers Savin, "I think we should bring the items with us, if the tribe members don't need them. We can transport them on one of the travois tents, that we will need to bring along for cover, anyway. We are heading towards some kind of city, and it is likely that we will be able to find a place to sell the items when we get there."

Peerimus and Yorrick
Tuesday October 26th, 2004 11:34:13 AM

"Peerimus nods agreement with Ilsidur, we should bring about everything we can. As stated we will need cover during the journey to Zaran and our guides will need it on the return."

"A different note, who does not have pernament magical protection. I can extend my spells and thus counter the draining we first experienced, if you let me know."

Peerimus then shoulders his meager pack, gives Yorrick a hearty pat and troops up to meet with the guides.

Jason of Aisildur
Tuesday October 26th, 2004 1:44:55 PM

Jason looks to the others, then voices,

"I think we should leave the weapons and armor with the barbarians. Even if they would not use them themselves, they might be able to trade the goods for useful items in the future."

Firn'gaer
Tuesday October 26th, 2004 2:15:48 PM

Firn'gaer listens to the debate over the captured weapons. Back and forth the conversation goes take them...leave them...take them...leave them. Finally he just shrugs his shoulders and walks away.

He walks over to Peerimus. "I have these boots but they apparently don't work here. When I purchased them the sales guy said they would keep me warm in the cold temperatures. Since they don't work I'll be needing your help to keep from freezing."

Savin
Tuesday October 26th, 2004 3:05:58 PM

Savin listens to Ilsidurs words and says, "OK just trying to get you guys to travel a little faster. You move so slow to begin with."

Savin will make his rounds to the barbarians, bestowing a few kisses and hugs to the new friends he made. He will shoulder his haversack and prepare to leave.

Shiraz
Tuesday October 26th, 2004 8:17:51 PM

Shiraz shrugs at his friends, "take what we can carry. Dont forget we have the travois we can use as well and Sly's chest holds quite a bit." Shiraz shrugs and turns to fill up his steel fanny pack with coals and prepares to go.

Sly and Luke
Tuesday October 26th, 2004 9:21:51 PM

Sly puts everything away and is ready to go. As he passes Fun'gar he tell him if you walk with me, I'll answer all the question about your tattoo!
Oh! I almost for got to tell you there's a missing member of our little family. He's an irom golem named Kulak."
Sly Smiles to himself "That should bring a few questions out of him?"

After Sly put hot coals into the Dogs cloak, He'll follows Sly.

The Darnedest Places (DM/Al)
Tuesday October 26th, 2004 9:38:30 PM

A young barbarian, almost a boy, arrives at the tent. Not as tall as the other barbarian hunters. But certainly headed in that direction. At first, he says nothing. Then he points at himself.

"Tokun," he says. Then his finger travels the arc in which stand the various members of The Children of Chaos. "Zaran City?" He nods as if requesting affirmation. "Zaran City," he repeats.

The boy places his fist against his chest. A string of barbarian words issues rapidly from his mouth. Within the string of words are both his name and, again, Zaran City. It appears that this is your guide.

Barbarians line the paths between tents as the group leaves Smashed Teeth village. Many run ahead to pull those still within outside for the departure of the Saviors. They follow until the tents give way to the open ice, and watch as the group makes their way out across the plain to the southeast. There are smiles and waving, but very little is said.

The village recedes, the crowd of well wishers dwindles, and finally, all that is left are the plains of Ice Vein.

Tokun strides along with a silent smile upon his face. His head is high, and he seems very pleased to be in charge. Without the oil and the dried fish, only two of the travois are necessary, and the group makes good time to the shores of the great lake. This time they turn to the east along the shore.

Come noon, Tokun calls a halt, holding up his hand, he mimes eating food.

And, as you are gathered around for your noon meal, the sound of grinding, louder than that of the great ice floes in the lake splits the air. It rises in pitch like the wail of tortured souls escaping hell. The backs of your hands burn momentarily. And just when the wail becomes unbearable, when it seems to reach it's peak ... all goes silent.

Tokun pulls his gloved hands from his ears, and blinks in amazement.

As though through a savage rent in the canvas backdrop of Ice Vein, a cozy interior set floats in mid air. Along one wall is a small bar which appears to be stocked with sandwich fixings at the moment. Down from the bar is a counter behind which a large bald man in a Kelly green apron stands.

"Er, Gracor, I believe we have another time-rip here," he shouts off to someone out of the picture.

Turning to face Ice Vein and The Children of Chaos, his lips widen in a professional smile, and he says, "Thelonius Johnson at your service. How can The Catacombs be of service to you today?"

[[ OoC ]]

Apologies Firn'gaer. I neglected to notice your Boots of the Winterlands. With those, the cold should have no effect upon you.

Sly and Luke
Wednesday October 27th, 2004 6:46:20 AM

Sly stands his ground, ready to throw a spell if it's needed. But when he saw that it was only a Rip in Time, Sly smiles at their guide. He then put an hand on Tokum shoulder, telling him "Magic".

"Well! people we did wish for a place to trade, around here? Did we not? Let's take full advantage of it."

Luke looks at S "let's eat."

Savin
Wednesday October 27th, 2004 9:07:17 AM

He will turn to his companions and say, "Shall we try and get the magic identified or do our mage friends want to play? We really haven't had time to try stuff out? What do you think?

Peerimus and Yorrick
Wednesday October 27th, 2004 12:19:32 PM

Peerimus bows to the guide, his arms crossed at his chest. "Peerimus." The druid fully understands the importance of this to him and the Village.

He walks with Yorrick taking in the vastness about him and the beauty of the great ice sheets and how the sun dazzles across the crystalline plain of snow. Truly magnificant and awe inspiring. This is what bards should sing about.

They eat and Peerimus shifts to a great bear as the sound increases and trie to move with Yorrick to protect thier guide. A growl escaping from each bear rises with the wail as each prepares himself and then everything goes quiet. Peerimus blinks and looks about, his head cocking in curiosity at the scene before him.

Peerimus shifts back with yet another shake of his head. He looks to Tokun and smiles warmly. Peerimus climbs into the rift and helps any who are following.

"I think we get the items identified Savin. Jason and Sly surely do not wish to spend several days when news of their loved ones may lie so close."

OOC: Sly puts a hand on his fore head and telapethecly tell Peerimus ~~ Fine with Me ~~

Luke put a paw on his head ~~ Woof Me Too ~~

Savin
Wednesday October 27th, 2004 7:18:27 PM

"Peerimus, I agree."

Shopping the Rift (DM/Al)
Wednesday October 27th, 2004 9:02:57 PM

Tokun tries his best to be as nonchalant as possible around the time/space rift. Everyone else seems to think nothing of it, why should he? He takes a casual walk around it, and sure enough, there is nothing on the other side. The unbroken horizon of Ice Vein stands before him with these crazy Saviors looking and talking up into the air.

Walk back around, and there is a room. Will they believe this story when he returns!?!?

Meanwhile, the magic savvy group of adventurers begin loading the bulkier non-magic items across into the Catacombs through the rift. Peerimus climbs in followed by Yorrick. As the large bulk of the bear passes through to the store beyond, a hum like an angry bee throbs in the air on both sides of the rift, and the edges flicker briefly with ethereal fire. Then the rift is still once more.

"Perhaps we'd best take care," Thelonius in his green apron cautions, "these things aren't tremendously ... reliable. I've seen them once or twice. And one is never certain how long they last. I've never seen a person caught in one as it closes. But ... one can imagine that it would not be a pretty sight."

Despite the bald clerk's misgivings, however, the equipment makes it's way through the rift without a repeat of the earlier sign of instability.

The transactions get underway.

Shiraz
Wednesday October 27th, 2004 9:08:04 PM

Shiraz is quietly chewing on his food when the very air ripes open, "By Imods hammer!!" the taur shouts drawing both swords and standing ready to attack. After his friends calm him down and Shiraz reaches out to verify that this is no illusion Shiraz nods, "I think we should sell all we can, and split the money so that we can all get what we need." Shiraz looks at the young barbarian, "How far till we are out of the Ice Vein?"

Ilsidur
Wednesday October 27th, 2004 9:12:47 PM

Ilsidur wraps his Cloak of Comfort around himself, and keeps up with the young barbarian because of his magical boots and snowshoes. When they halt for lunch, Ilsidur shares his with the party, and then slings one of the travois over his shoulder to take his turn. "Savin, are we keeping up," he asks with a smile on his face.

When the rent in space happens, Ilsidur drops the travois and readies a spell. But once he sees it is the Catacombs, he opens the travois and starts to pull out the items:

Here is the list of all the items that we want to deal with at the Catacombs:

"I suggest we sell all the items, without bothering to identify them, except for the items that have moderate magic, which we should get identified.

"We will almost certainly sell them anyway, and why spend the 110 gp per item to get them identified? Even if one of the low-level items turns out to be an item that we would have kept, we only lose 10% of the value as a result of selling it, and then buying a similar item later. And, it is very unlikely that any of us would keep an item with only a faint magic aura. So, let's sell all the non-magical things, and the faint magical items, and get the 5 items with moderate enchantment identified."

OOC Sticking his nose up in the air and adjusting his glasses, he says in his most nasal and snotty voice, "As a catacomb's staffer, I happen to know that they won't buy unidentified items. They will have to identify them, charge the identify price and then take 10%.

We might as well have them identified and then decide if we want anything. Faint magic can be cool too.

OoC would also like to mention our dear new wizard should be able to ID the potions in 17 minutes. Spellcraft of 25 does so. I'm guessing he's got a +19 or 20. so why the spend the 1700 there.
that leaves 12 items only 1200 a dn the sale so far came to 42372 so we are in good shape. So I ll have Peerimus generate another ticket for the magic and ID it.

Sly and Luke
Thursday October 28th, 2004 6:41:43 AM

Sly remembers some thing, So he tells their newest member of the party Fun'gar, "Hey! New Bee Fun'gar, Don't sell any of the stuff I lent you when we first met. The Clothes I lent you was for my mother, once we free the slaves. And that's include the Boots of Comfort on your feet, my Mother's feet gets cold in the winter."

Luke sits by his friend Yurrick, "Ho Hum! Humans".

Savin
Thursday October 28th, 2004 8:36:06 AM

Savin will move over to the young barbarian and clap him on the shoulder. He says, "Yeah, strange stuff always seems to happen around us. When I was back at the monastary, if a cricket jumped on you, it was considered an exciting day. Now if a dragon doesn't jump on you, things are a little slow."

Peerimus and Yorrick
Thursday October 28th, 2004 10:17:19 AM

Peerimus squats down and calls back through the rift "The items have been Identified.
4 Greataxes +1
4 Amulets of Natural Armor +1
1 Immovable Rod
1 Ring of X-Ray Vision
1 Dagger of Wounding
1 Ioun Stone (Pearly White Spindle/Regeneration 1 hp/hr)

I believe the axes should be sold, but what of the rest? I would like an amulet for myself and Yorrick. the 8 shares of money come to 5131gp and 5sp after the cost of the identifies."

Firn'gaer
Thursday October 28th, 2004 1:35:29 PM

"I'd like a chance for some of that." He says after hearing the list of magic. "I don't have a need for weapons save that dagger. An amulet would be nice, but frankly I'd rather not be in a situation where it would be needed. The ring I would be am very interested in, though." He says interjecting his oppinion into the conversation.

Sly and Luke
Thursday October 28th, 2004 3:06:19 PM

"If you get an Amulet for Yurrick, that means That Luke can where one?? If nobody want the last one I'll take it for my Luke" said Sly.

Shopping Online (DM/Al)
Thursday October 28th, 2004 9:38:50 PM

The trading is fast and furious. The two travois are quickly unburdened and Sly's magic chest emptied. Piles of armor, weapons, and unusual art are passed through the rift to be sold.

The magic items are then swiftly dealt with. Once identified, they pique the interest of the new wizard. Many, even some of the simplest, seem to have practical application.

Tokun, still somewhat agog, finally realizes that the intimidating minotaur is speaking to him. He frowns as he ponders the words of common, then he points to his feet. "Ice Vein." He points to the north. "Ice Vein." He points to the lake. "Ice Vein." He points away from the lake. "Ice Vein." He points in many different directions. "Ice Vein. Ice Vein. Ice Vein. Ice Vein. Ice Vein." He smiles at Shiraz and nods his head as though the question needs affirmation.

He gives the same smile and nod to Savin when the monk puts an arm over his shoulder and begins chattering away.

Suddenly, the air around the rift bows. warps and then rebounds, as though the visual landscape were suddenly struck an elastic blow. The resultant ululating moan seems to resonate on the inside of the head, on just the wrong side of the ears. The rift crackles with arc-bright energy before calming once again.

Savin
Thursday October 28th, 2004 10:35:22 PM

OOC OK guys, not to sound like Scrooge here, but my understanding is if a character wants to outfit his pet/character/familiar it is his choice but with his/her portion of the loot. Should Yorrick and Luke be getting shares?

Savin will pipe up, "I think we should sell everything unless someone would have wanted to buy one of the particular items? It is going to be tough to split the loot up fairly.

If we don't want to go that way, then I guess I would like the ioun stone.

OOC If we sell everything the total should come out to around another 8469 gps each, combined with the 5000+ we are already getting everyone could really get something they want and can use.

Al: George/Savin is correct in regard to the animals. They do not get a "share" of the loot, as it were. If they get something it must come out of the PC's share.

Shiraz
Thursday October 28th, 2004 10:54:43 PM

Shiraz shrugs at the young barbarian and looks around at his friends, "I am unsure of what I need at this monment," Shiraz says with a smile. "Let me think on it for a few minutes."

Sly and Luke
Friday October 29th, 2004 2:46:16 AM

OOC: It seem that I cannot get (Kim) to take care of me at the Catacombs. So I take the amulet here and you take the golds out of my share, just as if I was buying for my self. (That my Sons, are the rules.)

Al: That is correct as well. And will save you the 10% that the Catacombs will take on their selling price. Though it does challenge the old math abilities a bit when PC want a split loot/gold share. At least it strains mine.

Peerimus and Yorrick
Friday October 29th, 2004 12:12:26 PM

Pereimus nods with Savin, "I apologize, I did not mean to suggest Yorrick and other companions or familiars get a share of the treasure. I agree it is up to myself and the others to take care of such matters. I will add 1800gp or 257gp and 143cp to everyone elses share, which would be the sell price of one amulet. Sly will do the same."

"I think we should keep the ring and rod though as group items in the magic chest. They could be useful some day, and no one would ever actually buy such items."

The rift wavers slightly....

"I think our time is running our, if no one says so I'm selling the following:
4 Greataxes +1
2 Amulets of Natural Armor +1
1 Dagger of Wounding
1 Ioun Stone (Pearly White Spindle/Regeneration 1 hp/hr)"

[OOC: Al, I am in Austin, Texas, at my sister's wedding, and I don't have access to the rule books, so I won't be able to purchase anything this trip to the Catacombs. Is this the only chance before the next module is over?}

The Store Will Be Closing in 15 Minutes (DM/Al)
Friday October 29th, 2004 9:11:03 PM

Numbers and desires. Much talk is exchanged, both through and around the rift.

The air thrums once again. This time it is accompanied by a swift shot of burning pain. It climbs the arm from the broken pinwheel tattoo on the backs of everyone's hand. Blue fire crackles around the edges of the rift. The rippling energy lights the tear in space, and then bonding with it.

At the edges the wound in time and space begins to heal. The rift is closing.

Savin
Saturday October 30th, 2004 12:03:12 AM

Ilsidur takes his money, and asks Sly, "Young Sly, can you put my share in the chest for me? I will get it in a little while, when I have the chance to get to the Catacombs." Once the rift is closed, Ilsidur slings one of the travois over his shoulder, and makes his way behind their young guide.

Jason of Aisildur
Monday November 1st, 2004 8:31:23 PM

Jason looks at the money, then frowns.

"Any chance I can get this converted to gems and jewels, so that I might cary it a little easier?" he asks, then waits, hoping he can, so that he can bring the wealth to a temple in Zaran city for donation.

Off the Beaten Track (DM/Al)
Monday November 1st, 2004 9:09:11 PM

Peerimus and Yorrick leap through the Rift, and, with a high ear grinding sound of teeth on slate, the time/space rip falls in upon itself. *pop* It is gone.

The sun shines down upon the brilliant white landscape. The soft sound of water lapping, the creak of ice against ice come from the nearby lake floating on the fridge air. Was the Rift really ever even there?

Tokun looks left and then right. He whirls to look behind him. He takes a moment to convince himself that it is really gone. Then, with a wary look, he points to the southeast, a direction away from the great lake.

"Chapad nok Zaran," he says.

The party moves once again. This time out across the white open plain. In the distance, a the ground swells till the plains are a tumble of low hills and jagged outcroppings of ice and earth. Come mid afternoon, it becomes clear that this way lies your destination.

Savin
Monday November 1st, 2004 11:10:29 PM

Savin circles the group in endless circles. He fantasies about how to spend his money. "Maybe boots of skipping for the entire group, or polymorph wands to turn them into a four-legged creature, or cold resistance mounts. ANYTHING TO SPEED THESE SLOWPOKES UP!" He thinks to himself.

He will trot over to Ilsidur and ask, "So do dwarves jog often? Maybe we should practice. It is very good for your legs and heart. We want to keep you around for a few more years."

Sly and Luke
Tuesday November 2nd, 2004 6:47:38 AM

Sly tells Luke "Go ahead! run with Yurrick!".

To Savin smiling, "Yes! We cannot do with out Ilsidur. He's a big man in my heart." To Ilsidur, I guess we could always drag you on a sled??". Then he watches the dwarf mutter and spit a couple of times.

Luke takes off to run with Yurrick "Tally Ho!"

Peerimus also puts his share of the money in Sly's Chest and puts the amulet around Yorrick's neck. Noting Luke's playful nature, he looks at Yorrick and nods, Yes he and Luke have bonded well

Peerimus keeps Yorrick still for a moment with a touch as he crouches in front of him. "Hold your horses." with a wink. "We are still in Ice Vein and away from me, it is still extremely cold and dangerous. But we can remove one of those threats, can't we friend."

With a second gentle touch, Peerimus places an Extend Endure Elements on Yorrick and watches with a smile as the bear moves off to play with Luke.

Canyons of Ice (DM/Al)
Tuesday November 2nd, 2004 9:27:14 PM

Ice cliffs grow in height as you approach across the plains. In the light of the sinking sun, a fringe of enormous icicles hang like ghoul's teeth from the cliff's edge as it snakes across the edge of the plain. Tokun leads the group to the cliff face. He follows the cliff face north for a while. A child of the plains, he eyes the towering heights with suspicion and a seemingly unfounded dread.

A large outcropping, where the cliff has made a millennium long foray into the plains juts out across your path. A patient walk through the frozen air brings the group around the outcropping. And there, a path lies cut through the cliff. A canyon with walls rising high on either side, it's depths dark and shadowy in slant of the late afternoon sun.

Tokun points toward the canyon.

"Chapad nok Zaran," he says.

Firn'gaer
Tuesday November 2nd, 2004 9:48:43 PM

Firn'gaer walks quietly through the Ice Veins. He keeps his head undercover, the glare off the ice bothers his eyes, and follows the tracks in front of him.

The guide points to the canyon ahead and Firn'gaer has a bad feeling. "Seems a little close in there." He says quickly covering his eyes to avoid the glare. "Does the guide know if we'll meet anything in there. I mean anything he knows of that makes its home in there?"

Enter The Canyon (DM/Al)
Wednesday November 3rd, 2004 9:32:46 PM

The young barbarian walks softly with his head slumped down between his shoulders. His eyes are on the move. Constantly. Whatever it is about this place that triggers wary instincts in some of the Children of Chaos, it seems to affect Tokun in the same way.

And the canyon in and of itself is intimidating. High walls of ice look down upon the group from both sides. In the shadow of the cliff walls the temperature drops markedly. All sound seems magnified ten fold to the point that the soft crunch of the party's collective boots in the snow seems loud enough to project their presence deep up the narrow canyon.

Luke runs ahead with Savin, and Yorrick, at the urging of his friend, follows the fighting dog as guard and companion. At first, the only scent is the clean cold nip of the snow on the land. But then, the slight whiff of something else. Something else as of yet unidentifiable, perhaps due to distance, perhaps due to ... something else.

Savin a bit ahead of Luke, sees nothing. Yorrick hears nothing. Simply traveling along upon this 20 foot wide path between towering ice cliffs is an impressive enough sight. But aside from that, there is nothing. No news is good news.

Firn'gaer's eyes relax as the cliffs plunge the group into welcome shade. He asks a question, hearing his own voice in the still air of the canyon.

Firn'gaer continues to walk, eyes following the tracks in front of him.

How much farther in this village...

Again his mind drifts off to civilization, South Harbor, and his home. He pictures himself sitting at a large table cover with all the food and beverages he can imagine. Fine wine, roasted fowl, rice pudding...a fine pipe weed and a bit of brandy to wash it all down...

Oh...to be home again...why did I ever come to this place...why was I given this curse...why did it have to be in the coldest region known to man or beast...

These thoughts drift in and out of his consciousness as he follows the tracks in front of him.

Savin continues on inspired by the beautiful ice cliffs but wary at the same time. He knows that this is a perfect place for an ambush or worse an avalance and keeps his wits about his job.

He will dart ahead of the group trying to inspect any possible ambush sites. He would rather spring the trap on himself then get the whole group trapped in something bad.

Ilsidur
Thursday November 4th, 2004 12:24:35 AM

In response to Savin's jibe about slow movement, Ilsidur continues to plod along, dragging the travois. He says, "I once heard that slow and steady wins the race. So, you keep racing around, and using up energy, and I will continue to move slowly and straight ahead, conserving my energy for when I need to use it. Besides, one day you and I will arm wrestle; that's more my style for a contest."

As they enter the canyon, Ilsidur is as concerned as the rest about ambushes, but he also adds, in a quiet voice, "We need to be as quiet as possible in here. Those walls may be prime for an avalanche, as well." He tippy-toes in his boots, dragging the travois as quietly as possible.

Blood in the Evening (DM/Al)
Thursday November 4th, 2004 9:07:06 PM

The party proceeds through along the canyon bed. A narrow crack opens in the right wall, dropping down a short climb to a dark path that curves beyond vision. Tokun walks past, ignoring it completely.

Other turns and short climbs present themselves. Some the young barbarian takes. Some he does not. At times, the travois must be lifted up sections of cliff.

The sun sinks, evening sets in. The shadows of the canyon dim from light gray to jet black.

The canyon branches yet again, one path running upward and under a low bridge of stone. Jagged icicles hang like demon teeth from above. Luke whines. The smell that has tickled his nose ever since the party's entry into the canyon now descends on him like a mist. The smell wafts down from this path. Now he can identify it. Now he knows what it is.

"Blood," he says to Yorrick.

"Blood! Blood!" Luke calls back to the party behind.

Luke, you go with them and keep that nose of yours working. The rest of us will follow on your heals, after giving you a 30 second head start. If you need us to freeze (no pun intended), hold your fist over your head."

Sorry, neglected to make clear that the smell of blood is only apparent if you have some aptitude with scent. Just a little note for ambiance.

A particularly high Survival roll might get you something.

Sly watches as Luke runs ahead of him, the dog runs with his friend Yurrick, Niobe and Peerimus. But when Luke stop, turned to talk to Yurrick, Sly knew what the smell was.

He's been a hunter and a fighter long enough not to reconise the smell of blood! Sly whispers just loud enough for those around him to head, "Oh! No! it's blood..."

The druid moves up to see what Luke is talking about and that both animals are smelling. [survival 30] And also to see if there are any signs of tracks.

Jason of Aisildur
Friday November 5th, 2004 2:33:58 PM

Jason reflexively reaches for his blade when he hears of "Blood" being detected. He immediately sweeps his vision and senses in an arc around his entire surroundings, trying to determine if anything foul or evil lurks about.

((OOC: DM Al I have not been able to get hold og Niobe's CS yet, if you have a copy then could you please roll her Move Silently, Hide, Search, Spot, Listen and Survival. I would appreciate it greatly.))

Niobe nods at Ilsidur's suggestion to scout ahead. She does her best to quietly and precisely scout out the area. Like Savin she stays in the shadows as she moves forward. Niobe will naturally move along the opposite side from Savin.

The great bear senses Luke's nervousness. Rising up on his hind legs he tests the wind for scents. Yorrick's head snaps up and downward, repeatedly, confirming what Luke detected.

As Peerimus moves closer, Yorrick moves along side his long time companion. Yorrick maintains a vigil as his master searches the ground around them.

Uncomfortable and out of his element, Firn'gaer reaches into the folds of his clothes and retrieves a wand. He nervously plays with it in his hand as he waits for a determination of the danger.

"What is it?" He says to the front of the column. "Is something to worry about?" Again he calls watching the area with much more scrutiny.

Plateau of Blood (DM/Al)
Friday November 5th, 2004 9:29:59 PM

At Luke's warning, the Children of Chaos come alert.

Sly and Peerimus scent it on the air. The flat spoiled meat smell with a tang of iron in the over tone.

Jason draws his large hand-and-a-half sword and sweeps the darkening gloom at the bottom of the canyon for auras of evil. Nothing reveals itself.

At Ilsidur's orders, Savin, Niobe, and Luke head quietly up the icy slope and under the bridge fanged with icicles.

Peerimus scours the ground for signs of tracks. Yorrick rises on his hind legs tasting the air, watching, protecting as his friend inspects the ground. Peerimus finds is layers upon layers of snow. The heavy fall of three days ago has covered everything. There may have been tracks at one time. But there is nothing coherent now. The only trail left to follow, floats on the air.

Firn'gaer speaks, and his all too human voice sounds invasive, alien in this stark, cold landscape.

Thirty seconds passes, and the main body of the party heads up the embankment in the footsteps of the scouts. The icicles, though high above, seem to reach from them as they pass below. Tokun follows. His eyes are wide and they shift from shadow to shadow as the party moves along. The path climbs. It cuts east, then south, west, then south again. At times the cliff walls narrow to but five feet wide. Still the path climbs.

Finally, the path lightens and opens out onto a small plateau. Luke, Niobe and Savin stand in the flickering twilight. The snow is pristine, a carpet of white.

"Here. Strong. Smell strong," Luke says. Sly, Peerimus, and Yorrick know this to be true.

[[ OoC: BTW, do you folks have a marching order? ]]

Sly and Luke
Saturday November 6th, 2004 9:40:47 AM

As for a marching order, this is how I see it.

Niobe, Luke and savin Running around.

Ilsidur close behind the leaders.

Peerimus, Yurrick and Sly Behind our cleris, looking for the sorce of the smell of blood.

Jason, Fun'gar and Shiraz are covering our rear.

As for our Barbarian Guide Token(npc), should be in the mix some where.

OOC: Did Sly received Luke Leather Armor, Yet??

He climbs the path until it reaches the platue. Firn'gaer's eyes dart back and forth looking for signs of danger. This increases as more blood in confirmed by others in the group.

Maybe it's paranoia or just his inexperience in these situations, but Firn'gaer decides to cast a spell. His eyes glow with a deep intense amber color before fading back to normal. Now he glances the surrounding area looking for the some out of the ordinary.

Peerimus  d20+12=17 d20+5=8 d20+20=40

Keeping Yorrick close, the druid moves out onto the plataeu, just behind Niobe and Savin. He keeps a hand on the great bear, knowing any shift in the scent will alert the bear and thus him through the contact, but his eyes moves about in the bright reflecting landscape searching fo something. What is is he is not sure, only that his sense of the natrual order of things has been tipped, as an animal entering the predators lair.

Peerimus scans for caves or nearby airial perches at first, barring any of these he will move further out onto the plataeu.

Ilsidur  d20+9=28
Sunday November 7th, 2004 5:44:53 PM

Ilsidur follows the leaders up and out onto the plateau. "Peerimus, we need a set of eyes in the sky. Could you take bird-form, and have a look around? Luke, you lead the rest of us to the source of that smell. The rest of us will stay together, and keep our eyes and ears open." As they move, Ilsidur keeps looks for any recent sign of passage. [OOC: Survival roll of 28.]

Niobe
Sunday November 7th, 2004 6:29:30 PM

Niobe scans the plateau ahead of the group before continuing to move on. She is looking for anything that might come across as anomalies. If she sees anything 'odd' she will immediately, quietly tell the others; and especially if she sees any movement.

Jason of Aisildur
Sunday November 7th, 2004 9:24:57 PM

Jason continues to scan the entire area as they enter it, and behind him, as they pass through. Despite the lack of evil sensed by the paladin, he couldn't help but feel uneasy. He could feel his companions moving in the same cautious manner, and knew they too must be feeling a little unnerved.

(OOC: Continued to "detect Evil")

Savin
Sunday November 7th, 2004 10:55:08 PM

Savin will look at Peerimus and ask, "Your a druid. What kind of natural predator would be around in these parts? Yeti maybe?

Maybe we should push on for another mile or so? This area is to creepy."
