Cautiously, your group proceeds through the twisting alleyways of the Shanty Quarter. Shadow takes the lead, with Uriel behind him. Next come Evan, Mira, and Arm, then Wilfire, then Conner. Kadaz and Birdie bring up the rear.
The conditions around you remain wretched and miserable--but, thankfully, do not seem to actually get worse. Apparantly, you have reached rock bottom.
Finding the dump itself is a bit tricky. Shadow has a hard time finding the right direction, but with some help from Uriel and Arm, he is at last able to lead the party to the scrap heap.
The stench here is unbelievable. Piles of you-don't-want-to-know-what are scattered haphazardly about a large cleared area. There is no apparant organization to the mess, and nobody in charge of what gets tossed where. Buzzing flies are everywhere, and crows wheel and caw overhead.

Shadow will see if he can locate anything out of the ordinary (yes, with a pile of "you-don't-want-to-know-what" could there really be anything out of the ordinary) (Spot=3 yes a whopping 3) as the group moves around the cleared area.
If he spies anything out of the ordinary, or if not one of the closer piles, Shadow will start a search of that pile. Looking for something specifically that would not be thrown away or discarded (which would be anything other than waste - Shanty Quarter residence would not get rid of anything other than stuff that really could not be used)(search=20).

Shadow, Arm, Uriel, and Birdie begin looking through the piles of refuse. Much of what you find can broadly be classified as "organic." Sewage is very big. There are piles of soiled straw mixed with manure, obviously stable products. There are food remnants that even the very poor cannot eat, such as eggshells and peach pits. There is nothing as precious as metal or wood, but you do see the occasional scrap of cloth or even leather. Birdie growls happily as he uncovers and animal bone.
Yeah, you're pretty sure that's an animal bone.
In short, you see nothing here that doesn't belong here. Of course, you've only looked through the piles in the immediate area; you estimate that you've looked through perhaps one-quarter of the total dump.
Mira casts Detect Magic, but detects no dweomers in the immediate area.
Conner looks about for any signs of local inhabitants. They don't linger out-of-doors, but you do glimpse a couple of people moving briskly about their business. If you are quick, you might catch up to one of them--and you did see which dwelling one of them went into.
Wilfire and Kadaz stay on the alert, but neither sees anything out of the ordinary.

If the local stops to entertain his questions he will ask if anything is known of the disappearance of any youths in the area and if there are any rumors of anything unusual related to the trash heap.

Squaring her shoulders the mage walks deeper into the refuse, poking at it with her short spear, "Guys," she calls, "I'm going to give this 20 minutes, then I'm out of here!"

Conner runs after the local denizen he saw earlier.
Arm steps back from the smelly duty of searching and scans the general area, but does not see anything unusual.
Kadaz and Wilfire remain on the alert.
Shadow and Evan push resolutely forward with their search, and Mira reluctantly joins them.
It is Evan who spots the large creature hiding in a pile of refuse, one vinelike stalk extended as if sensing the area nearby. Its coloring so exactly matches the filth and rubbish around it that it is very difficult to spot. And Shadow is about to blunder right into it.

IF he finally sees the creature, and is far enough away from it, Shadow will draw his short bow and fire an arrow at the creature. IF they are too close, he will draw his rapier and defend himself (trying to get away from it).

Astonished, Mira takes in Evan's sudden move, and then the signals to Uriel. "Evan has spotted something, see that vinelike stalk poking out of the refuse?" she calls to the others. She grips her shortspear a little tighter and creeps closer to the pile of garbage. "I wonder what it is?" she asks out loud.

Conner pursues the man to his home, trying to ask him about the disappearances. "Go 'way!" a voice calls from inside. "Don' want no trouble and don' know nuthin' nohow."
Evan is able to alert Shadow before he stumbles into the creature, and Uriel and Mira also see that something isn't right here.
Before anyone can do anything, the creature lets out a bellow of frustrated rage and begins moving out of its lair. It is a large, vaguely circular blob with rocklike skin, with three legs and three lashing, vinelike tentacles. An immense mouth with razor-sharp teeth is in the center of the mass.
One of the tentacles strikes out in Shadow's direction, striking him for 3 points damage. The tentacle latches on, clutching the young rogue and beginning to crush him.

Wilfire's eyes go wide when he sees the strange beast. With little time to afford he scans his mind for anything he might have heard about such a beast (knowledge check 10).
Next Wilfire moves to help Shadow, but stops just out of the beasts reach. Once there he holds his flail in hand and raises it high above his head.... strange words roll off his lips as his body begins to grow.

OOC: To DM Kathy: I won a potion of cure moderate wounds from the Lotto at the LnB a couple of days ago and forgot to mention it, so I am mentioning it to you now. I will add it to my character sheet.

Wilfire moves up behind Shadow and draws his flail. [The squares are 5 feet, so moving behind Shadow is a double move. You can begin casting (or do something else) next round.]
Kadaz runs to get behind the beast [I looked at both a run and a double move, and a run can get you farther. It does have to be in a straight line, but puts you in pretty good shape for next round (see map)].
Conner curses and also heads toward the fight at a run. [A run has to be in a straight line, and can't go through limited-movement squares like the rubbish piles. I put you where I thought would be the closest, but opinions may vary. :) ]
Uriel switches weapons and approaches the creature. Since it has reach, he provokes an Attack of Opportunity as he approaches. A tentacle lashes out and hits him for 5 points damage. It tries to grab hold, but Uriel is strong enough to avoid the grapple. His sword strikes hard and appears to damage the creature.
Shadow draws his rapier [let's say the creature has him by the other arm], and tries to attack. It's an awkward stab, though, and misses.
Arm approaches the creature and strikes a major blow. [You could just barely reach it in a normal move. Ordinarily you would have provoked, but it already used its AoO this round.]
Evan throws an axe at the creature, but is trying so hard to avoid hitting his friends that his throw goes astray [-4 for throwing into melee].
Mira's Magic Missles, though, never miss--and now she has two of them!
The creature is now clearly wounded, and clearly unhappy about it. The tentacle wrapped around Shadow tightens some more, drawing him toward the mouth. Shadow takes another 5 points of crushing damage.
Meanwhile, the other two tentacles lash out at Uriel and Arm. Uriel is hit again for 2 points damage, and this time the creature succeeds in getting hold of him. The other tentacle misses Arm.
Finally, the creature tries to bite at Shadow, but misses him by a mile.

He curses to himself (losing his composure at failing so miserably) and hopes his compainions continue to do better.

Shocked at the voracity of the tentacled creature's attack, Mira sends another two missiles towards the creature, aiming, if possible, for where the tentacle holding Shadow joins the creature's 'body'. She smiles grimly as the two balls strike. (dmg=9)

Arm strikes the creature again, putting a nasty wound in its side.
Kadaz steps up and whacks it, too, injuring it badly.
[Ordinarily this would provoke, but I kind of screwed up. This critter only has two "attacking" tentacles; the other is a sensor organ. And its arms are busy now with Shadow and Uriel.]
Uriel tries to swing his sword, but doesn't have enough freedom of movement. [Per PHB rules, light weapons only when being grappled.]
Conner steps up to the creature, and Shadow tries to hit it but fails.
Then Mira unleashes two more Magic Missiles. The creature lets out a horrible scream, then the tentacles go limp and the ovoid body crashes to the ground. It is dead.

Arm smiles grimly, then looks for a place to wipe his sword off. Finding that the sword is cleaner than anything else in the immediate vicinity, he sheathes it instead, but not before entertaining briefly the thought of wiping it off on some part of Uriel. He instead moves to Shadow to see how badly he is injured.

{OOC: It might help the group if when you say the creature has a hold on you that you use game mechanics terminology. I imagine if Uriel was grappled, some other attack would have been used. Also, grapple rules requires opposed strength checks before being grappled and unless the creature has a special provokes another AoO - fyi}
Uriel whistles as he looks at the dead creature, "What in creation is that thing?" he says to no one in particular.

Shadow lets out a long sigh of relief as the creature dies. Pulling the tentacle (or whatever) off of him in disgust, and then sheaths his rapier (since he never did make contact with the creature it is still clean, otherwise he would clean it on his pants).
"Thanks Arm, but I am alright." Shadow says. He pushes the creature's body around to see if there is anything embedded into it (other than garbage) (search=11), if he does not find anything, he will turn to Evan and ask, "Where exactly did that creature come from?"
IF Evan shows the pile that the creature came from, Shadow will approach the pile and say, "We need to search this pile to see if there is anything that would indicate the missing people were here." He will begin to search the pile a little more thoroughly than he did with the other piles before the attack. (search=12) (spot=16)

Just for good measure, Kadaz whacks the creature again. It is very dead. And Kadaz is right, it's a big mess. Not that some of you could actually get any messier at this point...
Evan and Shadow are easily able to search the garbage pile this thing was using as a lair. They find no sign of the missing people; nor do they find anything else of interest.
Mira recalls her father describing such creatures, called Otyughs. They lair amid filth and refuse, and are said to have voracious appetites. They will eat almost anything, including garbage. From what Mira has heard, she does think it's a bit unusual that the creature's lair is so empty. Normally there would be indigestible items from some of its victims, but there is nothing here.
Evan finds some unusual footprints nearby. They clearly do not belong to the Otyugh, and it is unlikely they belong to any of the missing people--the prints are small and some of the feet are unshod.

Examining the tracks, Evan is able to determine that they were made by--goblins? In Plateau City?
It seems unlikely, but the proof is right before him. Not too long ago, goblins passed through the garbage dump.
You are able to follow the tracks, which lead further into the dump.
Those at the front of the group need to make a Spot check, and everyone should make a Reflex save. Just in case. :)

Uriel sheathes his two-handed sword and pulls his longsword and shield, staying near the front with Evan.
He seems able to keep his feet {Reflex:16} but is distracted from spotting anything due to the stench {Spot:7}.

Evan follows the tracks through the garbage dump, but isn't quite quick enough to spot the fine wire cleverly strung between two refuse piles.
Everyone jumps as the trap is triggered, and what must be every pottery shard in the entire dump comes clattering to the ground from atop one of the heaps. They clank and shatter on the rocky ground.
Fortunately, the trap seemed designed only to warn, as nobody is hurt by the falling shards. The noise it made, however, was loud and unmistakable. It's likely you'll soon have company.
The goblin tracks continue around the heap and further into the dump. Do you follow, or wait to see what results the "alarm" might bring?

Conner forges ahead, but the rest of the group stops and tries to figure out what this might mean. Is it best to go forward? Circle around?
Confusion reigns for a moment, but everyone keeps eyes and ears open. So when, after a moment, the goblins do appear on the scene, nobody is really surprised. Except, perhaps, for the goblins.
[Your Spot and Listen checks were so high (on average) that I just had to give you a surprise round! Yes, I'm a pushover. :) Anyway, surprise round, which means single actions only. Goblins are between 20 and 40 feet away when you spot them. I'll do a map tomorrow.]

Kadaz was ready for the sudden appearance of the goblins and immediately charges. If Kadaz gets close enough to a goblin he will swing at it (attack 16, damage 10). "Attack" he yells and Birdie follows suit, running at the nearest goblin (attack 4) but snaps harmlessly at it.

As the goblins approach, Arm takes up a defensive stance and Wilfire begins to cast a spell. Shadow unlimbers his bow [you can't fire until next round].
Kadaz moves toward the goblins, but can't attack until next round [charge is a full-round action]. Uriel likewise moves up, and Conner stays where he is, ready in case the goblins come to him.
Mira unleashes a pair of Magic Missiles at one of the goblins and takes it out.
There are six goblins altogether. Two of them throw javelins at Evan, but miss. The one Kadaz came at swings at him, and likewise misses.
Two others approach the party with morningstars raised. One misses Evan, and the other strays too close to Conner and takes a longsword in the gut. He is wounded, but manages to stay on his feet and return the blow. He, too, misses.

Evan steps forward towards goblin 4, his throwing axes flashing in the light as he strikes out at the goblin. His right hand ax strikes (hit ac 19, dam-9) but misses with his new masterwork axe in his left hand. If the goblin falls, Evan will shift to the right, providing an obstacle to the goblins on the right as they come around the pile of trash. If the goblin does not fall, Evan will concentrate his next attack on it again.

Conner swings again with his longsword, this time with more abandon and he feels his sword bite into goblin #3 (Hit AC=19 for 9 HP). If the creature still stands he follows up by driving his shield up and into the face of the goblin [Hit AC=18 for 9 HP]. If #3 has fallen, Conner will shifts forward 5' and bash at #4 [Hit AC=18 for 9 HP].
The tattoo that stretches across the fighter's temple and under his right eye is a vibrant crimson outlined in black. The sinews on his massive forearms are clearly visible as he swings down with his sword. "Don't let up on them lads" the fighter shouts as he surveys the situation. Conner's voice rings out crisply through the trash heaps, full of confidence and just a little bit of excitement.

Evan's axe flashes, and another goblin goes down. He steps to the right to block the other two as they advance.
Arm moves up next to Evan and takes out Goblin 1.
Kadaz swings at his goblin, but his blow doesn't quite penetrate the creature's leather armor. Birdie is more successful, wounding the goblin with his bite.
Shadow wants to shoot Goblin 1, but Arm has already taken him out, so Shadow steps forward and fires instead at Goblin 2. He scores a direct hit, and the creature clutches at his throat and falls.
Conner finishes up the goblin he wounded last round.
Wilfire, now Large sized, looks around for oppontents. The only living goblin remaining is the one Birdie is chewing on, so the massive dwarf brings his massive flail down on the hapless goblin's head. It falls over, dead.
Mira looks around, but can see no sign of any other creatures.

Evan kneels and carefully cleans the edge of his axe on one of the goblin's clothing. He then searches the body, hoping to find some sort of clan identification on it. "Ga!" Wilfire explodes as his flail bashes the goblin down to the ground... it was almost as if he enjoyed it.
But then a strange change came over Wilfire. He seemed to grow remorseful. Closing his eyes he said a short prayer, and then searched the downed goblins for any survivors.
OOC- If he finds one alive he'll make a heal check (12) followed by a level 0 cure spell if the heal check fails.

No further threats seem forthcoming as some of you maintain a vigilant stance.
Shadow is able to remove the arrow but it is ruined. You are able to salvage the arrowhead however.
Wilfire, a bit ungainly in the narrows of the trash heaps goes around with a look of concern in his eye, checking the goblins. All seem quite dead.
Evan cleans his weapons and does looks for some more tracks. Unfortunately, this area seems pretty well traveled by the goblins and there is no discernable trail (lots of milling around and tracks over tracks).
Mira suggests some baths which Uriel seconds but some of the party seem to want to stay. What will the group do?

Evan sighs in frustration at not being able to separate out the tracks to discover where the goblins came from. When Mira makes her plea to him, he nods with a smile, although the thought of Mira in the bath does bring a bit of color to his cheeks. He makes his way back to the creature they killed earlier and studies it for a moment. He cuts off something he thinks is important, something that will prove they killed the creature then signals that he is ready to go. He signs to Mira to ask Kadaz if the guard will pay a bounty on the creature. MAybe they can get a little pay for the creature. He looks back at the goblins, wondering if they should take the ears for bounty as well but doesn't know the bounty policies of this city.

The group deliberates as the bugs gather around the dead goblins. The husttle and bustle sounds from the town carry out to the Scrap Heap, but nearby all is quiet.
The group is clearly divided upon what they should do. Without a decision, wasting time is all that gets accomplished.
One interesting thing, Shadow discovers a small brand on the right breast of the goblin that he dug the arrow out of. It looks like a small circle broken down the middle by a sharp line.
Also, Evan cut off an eyestalk and part of a tenacle from the creature. The stench and disgusting slime of it is disgusting but not debilitating.

She takes a few covert glances at Evan, then finally speaks her mind. "Evan, dear, when we get back to town, please don't bring that...that...thing inside!"

Evan pulls a spare shirt from his pack and wraps up the bounty parts, wrinkling his nose at the smell but hoping that by wrapping it, it will help cut down the smell a little. Evan resumes his hunt for the goblins tracks in an attempt to discover where they came from, all the while, keeping his eyes and ears open for any sign of ambush. Evan does notice that the primary traffic in this area all seems to be about the same size and weight which seems to correspond with the goblins size.
No one recognizes the sigil branded on the dead goblin, either in relation to local knowledge, religion or any other method.
Deciding on a circular search pattern the group finds quite a few bits here and there in the heap:
small pouch with 3 sp a few bones broken pottery wood shards shattered furniture trash juice a boot with a hole through the heel discarded chamber pots sewage 6 loose cp threadbare cord small pieces of rope coal soot
Also, you notice that some of the trash seems to be in and around collapsed hovels or small huts. Around the time of this discovery. You notice that it is getting harder to see in the gloom.

It occurs to Wilfire that since the group has been here there no one has seen any vermin and very little vermin spoor. Arm notices that there seem to be very little of the normal 'sounds of twilight' (crickets and other noisy insects).
Evan shoves and digs at the wet decaying refuse near the edge of one of a lean to just managing to keep from vacating his stomache from the stench to find only the hard scrabble earth for a floor, stained with dark spots hard to make out in the gloom. {This takes enough effort that you really can't keep your eyes alert for an attack while you are searching, just an fyi. On the bright side, I will use your spot rolls for the trash you waded through}. After stepping back and taking stock of the lean-to, Evan wonders what made the trash so nauseating. Spreading out the trash a bit more, he finds what looks to be four small thumb-sized (not thumbs) pieces of half eaten rotting flesh, one piece with a small thin bone still attached.
Arm, watching off in the scrap heap, thinks he sees something far enough off to not really be sure it was anything - a hint of movement or a shadow of a form.
{Conner - it would be pretty hard to search this trash heap with your sword and shield at the ready, you probably need to make a choice and have at least one hand free}
Conner, searching a collapsed hovel notices after digging through some trash an area where the trash is mashed down, making a small clear area.

Several things happen at once, sparked by Mira lighting her shortspear.
Before she can move to Conner, when Mira enspells light there is a rustling that causes her to look out in front of her. Three goblins are visible and all three are throwing javelins at Arm and her! Mira is struck by three javelins with the fourth bouncing off of her Mage Armor {Dmg:8}
Arm is struck twice, once very soundly {Dmg:7}.
From out of the gloom facing Uriel, come four javelins, three of which strike the paladin soundly. {Dmg:19}
While Kadaz didn't see anything at first, he does notice when two goblins step into view, launching javelins at him. {Not sure what your flat-footed AC is but I am going tp assume for now the 19 hits Dmg:11 if it doesn't then Dmg:6}.
Wilfire {FYI, your Enlarge spell should only last a maximum of 3 minutes so it should be gone} sees two goblins step into his field of view and fire arrows at him. {I have never seen you post an AC so I have NO idea what your AC is, assuming your flat footed AC isn't obscene like Conner's these probably hit Dmg:9, otherwise no damage}. More twangs can be heard from your right as well and one more arrow hits you. {Dmg:4}
Evan hears the commotion and looks back towards Mira when another twang sounds from out in the gloom. The shaft strikes hard, staggering Evan. {AC:22 Dmg:11 critical strike}
Conner and Shadow are untouched for the moment and the group realizes they are in desparate straits.

For game mechanics purposes it is twilight that is why I have only made the map dim and not dark so assume shadowy illumination.}

He swings but his foot slips on a bit of trash throwing off the arc of his war axe (attack 11, damage 4). Birdie jumps towards the same goblin but also is somewhat off (attack 13, damage 4).

Mira's bolts disappear into the goblin and cause it to slump over, motionless.
Arm rushes forward in a valiant act of bravery to protect Mira and slices down one of the goblins.
Conner charges forward at the goblin to the north who trembles at his approach but doesn't break. The result for the goblin costs him his life.
Shadow looks for a clean shot to the north but doesn't see one. Hearing the sound of Wilfire being struck causes Shadow to turn and see two goblins within your lowlight vision. Your shaft flies true, burying itself in the neck of the goblin, dropping it.
Kadaz rushes forward and sees out of the corner of his eye two more goblins rushing in from the left towards him and Birdie. The unconscious stutter in your step adds to the awkward swing which the goblin avoids. The goblin stumbles back from Birdie's bite as well.
Uriel succeeds in illuminating the area in front of him and prepares to fight.
Evan drops down amongst the trash and downs a potion. The warmth of healing diffuses most of the pain of the shaft.
Wilfire stunned by the violence of the attack remains motionless, swaying from his wounds.

Conner's charge slaughters the goblin in front of him, unfortunately he passed a concealed goblin that swings at him twice. The first strike of the morningstar is true mostly from your surprise at the goblin. {Dmg:6} The second swing bounces off your shield, almost striking your shoulder. From behind you to your left you hear Arm in hand to hand.{I need your flat-footed AC please in your next post.}
After Arm strikes down one goblin, the one next to it swings its morningstar at Arm, striking Arm hard in the left shoulder. {Dmg:5}
The goblin on the far left of Mira throws a second javelin. It grazes down Mira's leg. {Dmg:3} A second javelin from the gloom behind that goblin also strikes Mira. {Dmg:2}
The only goblin still visible to Wilfire shoots an arrow at Evan who it sees clearly from its position, hitting him. {Dmg:4} Evan's makeshift cover keeps the arrow of his original attacker from striking.
Kadaz's situation looks bad, he has goblins closing in from his behind his left shoulder and he can see four goblins in front of him. The two goblins engaging Kadaz in melee both are unable to penetrate the dwarf's defense. One arrow from behind him bounces harmlessly off of Kadaz's armor but the second shaft does damage. {Dmg:2} A third arrow from the unengaged goblin in your front arm off to your right is fired at Birdie. It strikes the dog hard. {Dmg:5}
Javelins rain down around the paladin, all but one bounce off his shield and armor.{Dmg:2}

Evan moves forward to engage the two goblins on Birdie's left, hoping that Wilfire will deal with the goblin on Evan's left so it doesn't get a flanking attack on Evan. The axes flash as he strikes out at the goblins.

Kadaz gets Birdie to move back. Kadaz moves back as well but he can't quite make it backpedaling to the shack. His swing just goes wide of one of the goblins in front of him.
Conner nearly looses his sword in the body of the goblin his blade bites so deep but manages to keep a hold of it.
Mira's spell proves deadly again, killing another goblin.
Uriel looks much more prepared to fight the goblins after healing from the wand.
Evan closes with the goblins in front of him and strikes down one with a vicious blow of his hand axe.
Arm, weak from his wounds manages to swipe and kill the last visible goblin.
Shadow just misses one of the goblins closing with Uriel.
Wilfire regains his senses and charges the goblin directly in front of him. His flail caves in the skull of the goblin, dropping it in one blow.

Several of the goblins let out some complex series of whistles to one another and continue to attack.
One more javelin is thrown at Mira from her left, she can just see the shadowy figure of a goblin at the edge of her vision. {Dmg:6}
The second goblin fighting Evan swings hard and connects with a punishing blow from his morningstar {Possible Crit confirmed. Dmg:11}.
Kadaz again is sorely pressed fighting two goblins at the same time. The first goblin manages to strike Kadaz hard enough to injure him, but the second goblin misses wide. {Dmg:6} One goblin archer fires at Kadaz from his left side again striking him in the left side. {Dmg:5}
Uriel gets rushed by two of the goblins. One attempts to flank him and provokes an AoO. Uriel hits him and kills him. The other goblin is more careful and connects. {Dmg:6} Two more javelins fly in at the Paladin, one striking him. {Dmg:8} One arrow from over his right shoulder also connects staggering Uriel. {Dmg:5}
The twilight has almost completely transitioned to night, those of you without light sources will begin to have problems soon...

Kadaz is very wounded with several arrows sticking out of him, and very frustrated because there are no dead goblins on the ground to show for it. Birdie, sensing something is wrong with his master, growls and tenses himself, ready to respond if ordered.

Conner starts to move towards the last goblin near Mira, Arm and him but he sees Wilfire charging it and also realizes it is too far to charge with too many obstructions in between. He follows Mira towards Evan and Kadaz, hearing a satisfying crunch that sounded like a flail striking a goblin.
Arm, wearily moves after the Conner and Mira after downing a healing potion.
Mira moves closer to the combat in the south and sees an eligible target just inside Uriel's torchlight firing arrows at the back of the Paladin. She drops the goblin, that lets out a small yipe as it collapses.
Wilfire crunches the last goblin visible in his immediate area.
Shadow stikes the goblin in melee with Uriel with a well-placed shot but fails to take him down.
Uriel finishes him off though with a swing of his longsword.
Kadaz takes out one of his attacks with a meaty swack of his waraxe.

The goblin engaged in melee with Kadaz seems determined to continue fighting but with some whistles the others fade out back into the gloom and heaps of trash. The goblins using missle weapons fire them once more.
On Kadaz, the goblin in melee just misses with a skilled swing of its morningstar. The last goblin near the motionless Evan, steps back and shoots an arrow at Kadaz - it wedges in his armor but fails to pierce the dwarf. The final goblin behind and to the left of Kadaz fires a last arrow as he is fleeing as well. The arrow hits Kadaz in his lower back. {Possible Crit confirmed Dmg:12} When Kadaz falls, the goblin in melee with Kadaz also begins to fade off into the gloom.
The two goblins throwing javelins at Uriel try once more to take down the paladin. One clatters off Uriel's shield and the other falls short.
The last sounds of the battle fade away in the growing darkness of the evening. The dead and the dying litter the impromptu battlefield...

If he notices either Evan or Kadaz lying on the ground he will move to them and take up a defensive posture before calling out for assistance.

Wilfire does a quick scan of the area (spot 20) while listening for anything unusual (listen 13). Using his darkvision, he attempts to locate a Goblin within 50 feet. If he spots one he will move in its direction (move action 20 feet), raise his arm in its direction and utter the words "Approach".
OOC- Command- (Approach) DC14, Range 30 feet
OOC- Failing the actions above he will move towards the person that appears to be most wounded, and cast cure light wounds (burning command)

Kadaz lies unconscious on the filthy garbage, his blood seeping out of a half-dozen wounds. Birdie runs up and licks Kadaz's face, trying to wake him up.

His wits more about him now, Arm heads south after Conner and Mira. Figuring that she will head to Evan first, he removes his last healing potion from his pocket to use on Kadaz, assuming it's not already too late. While proceeding, he keeps an eye and ear open for the rest of the goblin band, his elven sight serving him better than his hearing at the moment (listen=11, spot=20).

Shadow will maintain his vigilance with listening and watching around, while he heads with the rest of the group towards the unconcious commrades. (Listen=17 and Spot=2) He will keep his bow out. "I do have a potion that might make them feel much better if we need it." Shadow offers as the group gets to the injured members.

Uriel lights another torch to have in hand and then stores his shield, keeping his sword in hand. He looks out into the gloom and shadows, for another rush of goblins.{spot:12} {Listen:21}

Mira moves over to the motionless, pale form of Evan and the bleeding slumping form of Kadaz.
Conner moves over next to the body of the dwarf looking out for any threats. He thinks he might have seen the hint of motion out away from Kadaz but the motion seemed to be moving out not towards.
Arm follows Mira to find Evan and Kadaz down, he looks out and listens for any more signs but hears none.
Wilfire sees no more targets and so follows the torchlight of the mage southeast. He notices each party member is wounded.
Shadow says nothing but moves towards the southwest a ways looking and listening. He hears from behind him, the muffled cry of a person from far off.
Uriel succeeds in lighting a torch. Over his ragged breathing he to hears a muffled cry.

Conner kneels beside the unconcious dwarf and gently pours a potion of cure light wounds into the fighter's mouth. [CLW=6hp] Too pre-occupied with the health of Kadaz, Conner hears and sees little else [Spot=6, listen=4]

Wilfire runs over to the fallen body of Kadaz, while doing his best not to frighten Birdie.
"Easy there" he says to Birdie. "Don't be bitin when I'm healin"
Dropping to his knees while laying his hands on the chest of Kadaz. "Curatio Vigoratus" he utters as a dull white light falls over Kadaz's skin and the wounds begin to heal (cure light wounds= 8)
"Keep your eyes peeled", Wilfire warns as he runs over to Evan, and performs the same healing spell. "Curatio Vigoratus" he utters again. (8 healed)
OOC- Burning a protection from evil and command spell.

If it weren't for the blood leaking from the perforations in Evan's stomnach, it would almost look as if he were sleeping.

The sudden influx of healing spell and potion, causes Kadaz's wounds to knit over and stpops the bleeding. Even before his eyes open the dwarf is instinctually reaching for his axe. The sight of Wilfire and Conner leaning over him, however, quickly penetrates into his head. "How's Birdie?" he asks, showing where his first loyalty lies.

Seeing that Evan and Kadaz are being tended to, Arm pockets the potion for the time being, and resorts to approaching and guarding the group until such time as they are feeling up to moving on (spot=16, listen=15).

Shadow hears the muffled cry, but knows the group is not in any condition to move after it. "I suggest that we move away from here immediatley, but in the morning if able would like to check out this area again. I think something rather large is happening here."

Mira staggers towards Evan, but Wilf beats her to the ranger. The sorcerer makes a hard decision and quaffs the potion (CMW) herself. Physically she feels a little better (9 pts. restored)and able to draw on her magical resources once again. She stands on guard over the recovering ranger and readies to cast another spell should the need arise.

Uriel takes stock of his friends condition and his own. He looks back towards where he heard the scream. "Someone else fell prey to the goblins out there tonight... but we would be the ones needing saving if we run into another group of goblins like that, we need to get back within Plateau City," Uriel says.
He goes and picks up the second torch to hand to someone if they want to carry it.

The group begins to gather and heal some of the grievous wounds inflcted by the goblins' attack. While the party heals the dusk deepens into true night.
No one sees anything else or hears any signs of the goblins for now or any other signs for that matter.
What will the group do?

Arm mutters under his breath at Uriel's comment, "I'm surprised he's not trying to heal the goblins.".
Sighing, He does a cursory look around (spot=11, listen=9), and says to the group, "I think NOW would be a good time for us to head back...I, for one, could do with a thorough scrubbing.".

Uriel, listening for more signs of goblins, hears Arm's comment.
He drags himself over to Arm, still dripping from gashes and wounds, splattered with his own blood and the blood of dead goblins.
"I've had it with you Arm! This is a group of adults, not children. You have been sulking around since I wouldn't let you kill an unarmed prisoner. We all almost died here. If you are so Domi damned bloodthirsty, take my life, here!" Uriel drops his shield with an echoing clatter and pulls out a dagger. He grabs Arm's free hand and wraps it around the dagger putting it up to his neck. He holds still and says, "Let's see it Arm. Show me how the orcs kill innocents!"

Conner offers his hand to the dwarf and helps him to his feet. "Yer dog's fine guardsman, he's been protecting you."
"I don't feel good about leaving captives with those creatures" the fighter peers into the darkness from where the muffled cry was heard, "but I don't think we can do much good 'til morning." he continues in resignation.
[Spot=22, Listen=10].
Before he leaves, Conner spends a few moments re-arranging some of the larger pieces of garbage to mark their current location and the direction from which the cries were heard.

Kadaz takes Conner's helping hand and stands up, swaying slightly as he regains his footing. "Did I hear someone say we should head back? I'm for that." Kadaz then pulls a rag out of his pack and bends to wrap it around Birdie's wounds. "We both need rest."

Mira catches the drama between Arm and Uriel out of the corner of her eye. Noting that Evan is now safe she moves over to the fighting men. She touches the blade of the dagger and it starts to glow with a bright light in a 20 ft. radius.
"No weapons!" she says sternly, "I don't care if you guys want to beat each other silly later, but for now we need all our resources to get out of here alive. All of us, together."
"Arm, this dagger will shed magical light for 10 minutes, and not a minute longer. Uriel, lead us out of here. We must make haste."
