Jus (AC 39 Front, 35 other; HP 125)

Jus evaluates the situation, then turns off his boots for the moment. Unfortunately, he doesn't have as fine control with his glove, which will run out the remainder of its charge.

"Does that item from the temple help locate the phylacteries?" Jus asks.

Jus drops his pack and retrieves the arrows he has bundled inside. He then casts Greater Magic Weapon upon them and his remaining Cure arrows, then puts them all in his Quiver of Ehlonna.

While at it, he holds out a Potion of Enlarge Person, offering it to Gareth if he'd like to use it in the future.

With the immediate situation in hand, Nonam heeds Gareth's warning and casts a prismatic wall along the edge of the throne wall.

Symon sees no one hiding anywhere in the room and there was too little time to see what the baddies were carrying from inside the cage and addressing Gareth and then vanishing into thin air.

Onrad turns to attack his disappearing foe only to realize there is nothing to attack. (Use of a supernatural ability does not allow an attack of opportunity.)

Tericus releases his elemental and Nonam throws up his prismatic wall.

The group is now faced with a choice. There are four corridor openings and the secret door you all came out of. But Max mentioned something about the other baddies being kind of behind the wall, where no door is apparent.

Gareth starts looking at the wall directly behind the thrones and spots absolutely nothing, except that Nonam's prismatic wall is very pretty.

"Nonam, we need to get to the wall you just covered. It's where the baddies are. And yes, I think we are going to meet some more of them in the very near future. If we are not ready we must leave this place right now and do this all over again. I'd say our chances are best just to keep going. At least they are hurt pretty bad.".

"I can cast teleport, but seeing how we have no idea what is on the other side of the wall, that's probably a bad idea."

Jus checks bodies of those just killed, seeing if any type of regeneration is occurring. He also cuts off rings with his Holy short sword and also uses it to remove any necklaces. Jus tries to be careful not to touch any of these items, as they are probably imbued deeply with evil.

Then, as repulsive as it seems, Jus looks around at the other dead and rotting corpses for anything that might be useful.

While contemplating whether he wants to look in a particularly repulsive glob of remains, Jus asks the newcomer if he'd mind explaining who he is and why he is here.

The human in padded armor seems excited by the course of events. "Where did they go? Where did they go? We need answers, and that's what I'm good at! Answers!"

He thinks for a second. "I could scry them, but that takes an hour to cast. So no."

"I could search with an Arcane Eye, but that takes ten minutes to cast. So no."

"I could search all the corridors at once with Prying Eyes. That takes a minute to cast. Hmm. Do we have a minute? And then the time for the eyes to search and report back?"

"I can cast Locate Object, but I have to know an object to focus on. Did anyone see any object that one of them carried? A weapon? An article of clothing? An unholy symbol?"

"I could cast the Prying Eyes and the Locate Object."

"While the Eyes are Prying," Symon says, brandishing a magnifying glass, "I could give this room a good searching. Searching!"

He looks to the others for direction, and pursues any course of action that the group seems to like.

[OOC: Casting Prying Eyes and Locate Object, then searching, seems the best choice so far. If that's the plan, the orders for the Prying Eyes are: "Spread out and search the entire dungeon, looking for the enemy. Return to report if you sight the enemy or after 90 minutes." Cast Locate Object up to three times at different places if I think that will help. Search Checks to look over the room for traps, secret doors, etc etc.: 48, 59, 53, 56, 52.]

The human seems much more engaged with the puzzle of finding the enemy than talking about anything else! He quickly brushes off Jus's question. "The Oracle, the Oracle! Okay? But we have to find those monsters first! That's the key! What about them? What about my plan?" He starts looking around at things through his glass.

"I've got plenty of Teleports once we find them! But we have to find them first! First!"

Tericus casts detect magic to help Jus search the fallen dead, then he will reactivate his detect evil spell and scan any items that come up magical. Then he will help scan the walls with his detect evil spell if the searching doesn't find them.

The warrior scowls at the mage. "We have given them too much time to recover! Chat later about who is who. Nonam, drop the wall so we can figure out how to get behind it. If we don't get to them right now they will have time to be completely ready for us. I think we will not survive that." He confers with Max again about what he perceived, asking for more details.

Symon casts the Prying Eyes. He can't cast the Locate Object since he has nothing to fix on. He searches the area around the thrones/dais/whatever that is (search checks from last post).

He calms down a bit and says, "I'm Symon Dracozyl, an Investigator. The Oracle sent me to help fight evil. Since the other fellows were obviously evil, I take it to mean I'm supposed to help you, good sirs."

The peering down the halls by Onrad and the eyes do nothing and show nothing of any real help except more hallways and dead bodies. As you are wandering through the room I need all to roll spot checks DC 20.

Fai'fasal seesm to have a more than slightly glazed look on his face and is pacing along the front end of the dias, sword humming and swinging slightly from side to side.

As Gareth addresses Nonan, he feels a very familiar tickle in his brain. Umm, Boss? Things are about to get nasty with Liseth for some reason. I think she is about to try and take Fai'fasl's mind over.

Jus finds quite a few rings and a few other pieces of jewelry and several nice weapons, though any time he tries to touch any of the weapons he doesn't feel quite right.

In the midst of his cursary search he feels a deep sensation of suprise and happiness wash over him that almost as suddenly turs to dread and deep fear. At the same time he hears/senses one word spoken, once with the suprised happiness and once again with the fear. That word is Father?

In the midst of his searching (DC 19) the warrior looks up at the drow. "Fai' Fasal, you must resist her. You are in control. Liseth, please wait until we kill the liches. You will be able to get more of them that way...". Looking to the others he says "The sword is about to try and take over his mind.". He gets really frustrated as they have lost contact witht their enemy and have no way to get to them - or get away.

Note: Gareth had a Natural 20 spot before the prismatic wall went up.

Symon puzzles over the stunning lack of results he has achieved so far. "Well, one door shuts and another one opens!" he says.

"Opens!"

"But it is getting stuffy in here," he says, so he activates his Endure Elements tattoo.

"I would use my Speak with Dead, but these undead corpses are useless."

"Well let's try this." He casts True Seeing and Extended Arcane Sight. The latter fails due to armor check (rolled 1 on a d100), so he casts it again. Then he activates his ring of x-ray vision. He spends up to two minutes using the ring to look over the throne area, the wall behind, and the rest of the room.

Of course, his Robe of Eyes always gives him 120 feet of darkvision, detect invis, and detect ethereal, plus can see in all directions.

More search checks: 54, 50, 54

Hoping his words will shock Fai'fasal back into himself, Addinein ponders what next to do.

"What are the things we know for certain, and has Max pointed out anything more about what's behind these walls?"

Walking slowly Jandar walks up to Nonam's prismatic wall and hesitates before walking into it knowing what might happen.

Eventually, through the use of various spells, abilities, instruments, and hard effort seven possible secret doors have been located (see map). While three are definitely not in the direction in which Max suggests, the other three are nearly side by side in the rear wall right of the dais. The last seems to be under the central throne.

First Symon takes a round to look THROUGH each door (X-Ray vision).

Assuming no enemy or danger is revealed, Symon does his best to open all the secret doors. [Disable Device checks: 31, 34, 41. Untrained Open Lock checks: 8, 25, 14]

Then he casts anther Prying Eyes and has the eyes search down all the openings, two per door. One per door is to come back after one minute and report. The other eye per door is to come back after seeing the enemy. [Armor Spell Fail Check 54]

Jus drops a ring as it gives him a strange negative buzz. "This appears to be useless," Jus says with a strange amusement.

"Well, how about we...," Jus catches himself as a voice runs though his head. With a mix of happiness and resignation, Jus concentrates hard and thinks deeply to the dragon he had hoped would -- despite all odds -- be his friend.

Congrads, Keiran, Jus thinks. He then adds the afterthought, Be careful.

Not quite in the moment, distracted by this unpleasant reunion, Jus stands silently and watches the others attempt to open the doors.

When Addinein sees Symon stepping up to the door, Addinein will get our of his way.

He then readies his bow, should defense be needed.

When Addinein hears Onrad's comments about evil, Addinein wonders what evil feels like. He's getting an idea of it, but it's still hard to try to describe to his family back with the matron.

Ok we are in round 18 so make any adjustments to spell effects and make sure you know what spell slots and spell you have remaining. You have used up a lot as have the bad guys, so...

Symon sees nothing at all looking through/under the throne except dakness below, other than it just seems to be a tunnel located at the bottom of eight steps.

The three southern ddors all lead into darkened passaages.

The northern three side by side doors resist all attempts to see through them.

The throne doesn't appear to be latched in any way and it seems as though it just may tilt backwards for access.

The middle of the southern doors seems to be locked and have some sort of device on it.

All three of the northern doors appear to have some sort of magical protection on them.

The throne tilts easily and the prying eyes doesn't make it back to report anything.

The southern doors open easily enough and the middle door apparently had a gas trap on it that was disarmed the eyes all report small rooms all apparently empty.

At the three doors in the back wall Symon goes to work on the devices on doors one and two only to hear what seem to be enormously loud clicks.

Just after the first click a large cloud of purplish smoke fills the area from the doors to the throne ALL fortitude DC 23 or lose 4 points of constitution.

At the secon click Symon feels something seep into his mind. will save DC 20 or lose all intelligence except 1 point Feeblemind. -4 on save for sorcerers/wizards or arcane spell casters. Spell resistance 27. make save or spell resistance negates effects.

The warrior chokes a bit on the noxious fumes but fights off any ill effects (DC 32). He decides to go ahead and lift the throne thinking it can't be too hard as drow who are much weaker than he can do it. "Symon, send some of your eyes down there...".

The smoke overcomes Tericus for a moment, but he's able to fight off its effects (rolled 17, hero pt reroll of 30). Once the smoke clears, he asks, "Which way are we going?"

[OOC: Kent, the Prying Eyes takes a minute to cast. If I did get to cast two of them, then that's 20 rounds, not 2, that they took to cast. Or maybe Symon didn't get to cast them?]

Symon shrugs off the purplish smoke (Fort Save 26) and hardly notices the Feeblemind (Will Save 35, a natural 20).

He tells Gareth, "Two eyes went into the passage under the throne and did not come back."

Symon continues to look for traps and disable them. He'll also unlock locks. Search checks 65, 60, 53. Disable Device checks 27, 34, 42. Open Lock checks 12, 12, 26.

Onrad once again, barely prevents the draining. He mumbles to no one in particular, "I can only keep this up for so long. One of these is gonna get me."

"The doors with the traps is probably the way to go."

He goes total defense and prepares for a door to open.

Fai'fasal manages to choke of the smoke but does seem a bit green around the gills, so to speak. There is a stair well leading down from under the throne and three side by side 4ft wide corridors leading back towards where Max informed Gareth. Then from out of nowhere you hear a female's voice rip out of Fai'fasal's mouth.

"Kill them all they are back there I must Kill them all!!!"

Jandar breaks from his fever against the liches when he hears the voice, and he sprints to where he hears it, preparing to cast a healing spell. He turns his head slightly to frown at Gareth when the warrior asks a question but makes no move to try to help the person.

Symon moves over to the Voice that asks for death. He activates his Detect Evil Tattoo. If he does not detect evil, he says, "Hello? Who is over there? Can you tell us where those liches went?" If it is evil, he offers it a quick death if it will tell where the liches went.

When he hears the male elf speak in a female voice, he murmurs "How curious!" but so long as the drow is not evil, Symon seems glad to follow his (her?) lead.

"This is my specialty!" declares Symon. He steps down into the hole. He casts Extended Alter Self (Halfling), Darkness and True Seeing.

[OOC: Note that *anyone* can see in this "Darkness." In 3.5, magical "Darkness" is not dark at all! It is more like illuminated dimness, like torchlight, from 20 ft to 40 ft away from the torch. It does provide concealment and the opportunity to hide. True Seeing negates the concealment.]

Symon begins moving down the corridor, using his Robe of Eyes, Arcane Sight, and True Seeing to sense and perceive his surroundings. He is moving slowly as he hides in shadows and searches as he goes. He is peering through his lens of searching as he looks.

Jandar does not see anyone where the voice came from.

Symon takes about four stairs down when he feels something soft and wispy brush his cheek and hand. When he reaches for it nothing is there, nor does he hear anything. The steps are 3 ft wide, very steep and have rises that are nearly 12 inches and very difficult for him to maneuver in his halfling form Dex roll DC 22.

Symon nimbly hops down, step by step. (Dex check 23! Woo hoo! Boy, am I lucky!) So intent is he on moving silently, hiding, and searching all at the same time as hopping down staurs, that he doesn't even notice the spiderwebs, brushing them away without even looking. (see prev post for checks) If things get tough, he'll climb (checks 23, 18, 23).

He keeps looking for clues, tricks, traps, and secrets!

Symon keeps making his way down and gets to the 7th step which he realizes is pressure plate step. (to avoid this step will entail swinging out 12 inches and dropping 24 to the 8th step.) Beyond he can see that there are roughly 30 more steps which end in a roughly hewn pit-like area. the part of the pit are that he can see is empty and clear, however there is a sickly green luminescence coming from somewhere out of his sight range. he also notices that while not thick there are definitely a few more web stands here than were at the top, where he started.

He's only six steps down, so Symon pokes his head up and casts an extended Message spell so that he can explore and whisper reports without coming back.

Still hiding (Hide check 56), Symon reaches down and disables the trap (Disable Device check 36). He continues to climb carefully down the stairs (Climb 39), searching as he goes (Search check 56), and looking for creatures, especially in the webs (Spot check 35).

He whispers everything he sees.

Catching the gist of what Onrad is saying, Symon grins and whispers a message back to him: "Ha! At the first sign of trouble, I'm teleporting out of here! If you're in reach, I'll grab ya ... if not, well, it's your skin, friend!"

"Now stop with the distractions, already! I have some puzzles to solve here!"

Symon continues downward and eventually makes it to the bootom of the stair and to the floor of the pit. It is very dark down here and is barely lit with periodic greem luminescent mos or lichen. There is quite a bit of litter on the floor of the pit although it is spread out and not all in one place. Ocassionally a small pile is able to be seen. The outside limits of the pit are unable to be seen as the pit extends for more than eighty feet.

Onrad starts down the stairs easily managing the 12 inch rises. Onrad make spot check DC22.
