DM Jamie Tuesday January 25th, 2005 5:44:16 AM
I need will save of 12 to enter the cavern. There's a sense of dread here. The walls seem to crawl with nightmares.
This looks like a natural cavern, bored out of the rock by an underground river. There's no sign of the river now, it's dried up and has been for ages.
Cavern is approximately 30ft high, and roughly circular, maybe 120 ft.
At the far end, something shimmers.
There is a pedistal or dias located to the left of the cavern opening. On the far side of the cavern you can see a pale grey humanoid with an elongated head. To his right three is a small child, no more that 8 or 9, laying on the ground. The childs clothes have ben torn and you can see a small pool of blood on the ground by the child.
"Welcome to my humble abode," chimes the humanoid. "My name is or at least Atimis long ago. Why have you come here?"
There seems to be no one else in the cavern.
I have placed a map in an online directory of mine. It can be located at http://f1.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/jamieharwick@sbcglobal.net it is located in the "Role Playing" folder.
Dietrich ac 19, 26/29 hp, shield, bless, fire res d20+2=6 Tuesday January 25th, 2005 2:18:01 PM
OOC: did our missil fire hit anything? The D was just to save some writing... Sorry for that!
Despite the blessing, Dietrich is overwhelmed by the dread and feeling of evil from the cave. (will save 7)
The warrior is ashamed, but he can't resist it and just starts praying for Domi and Gargul.
Berlon [AC 20 HP 19 - S.O Dietrich (2h 12 m), bless, fire res 2] d20+8=16 Tuesday January 25th, 2005 4:12:00 PM
His jaw dropped at the sight before him, Berlon struggles to regain composure. He mutters a slient prayer for Guidance to Alemi (+1 bonus to next save) He steps into the cavern (will save 16) and resists the urge to fire his crossbow, waiting to see what his Friends will do....
Vorelle d20+3=8 Tuesday January 25th, 2005 4:27:30 PM
Vorelle's heart sinks as she approaches the chill and forbidding room, and she can't bring herself to step across the threshold. Shame burns in her throat and chest, but no matter how she scolds herself, she cannot force her feet to move.
[Will Save 8]
Theodore and Macaw HP 13/13 AC 17 (mage armor, resistance, & bless) d20+6=18 d20+9=12 d20+11=14 Tuesday January 25th, 2005 7:23:39 PM
Theodore's jaw clenches at the sight of the helpless child. He is transported back to a few months ago when he failed to protect a different child from the sinister punishment of Ba'Bac, servant to Marteaus.
"Release the child," he yells at the monster. "And tell us why you are here." The young mage points the rod in his left hand at the creature in a menacing manner.
Theodore is not so completely taken with anger to forget the situation at hand. The magic device against the wall serves as a point of interest and he quickly gleans all he can from the distance that he is.
(Will save = 18, Knowledge arcana = 12, and Spellcraft = 14 for any info on the device)
Vauhwyt and Mookie (AC23, HP24 of 24, enlarged, bless, shield, mage armor, 2 hp fire resist) and Mookie (AC17, HP12 of 12, bless, enlarge, mage armor, 2 hp fire resist) d20+6=13 Tuesday January 25th, 2005 10:46:17 PM
[OOC: Friends, remember that the Bless spell gives a +1 on Fear saves!]
Vauhwyt steps into the cavern, and a wave of fear sweeps over her ... and after a momentary pause, she shrugs it off. [Will save 13].
Still eager to follow Dietrich's command to attack on the front line, she does not notice her friends' reaction. Instead, she moves 40 feet into the room and casts Enlarge on herself. Now she is 13 feet tall and 20 feet long. Her reach is 20 feet with her spear and 10 feet with fists and paws!
"Mookie," she whispers, "when I charge, tumble around and distract it like usual."
"Got it, Boss!"
DM Jamie d20=7 d20=7 d20=9 d20=12 Wednesday January 26th, 2005 6:12:55 AM I have updates the map with locations of players.
With Dietrich and Vorelle staying behind the rest of the group charges into the cavern. (The will save will drop by 2 points each round you try it. So the next save is 10)
(OCC: Your previous missile fire hit nothing, sorry)
Berlon enters and sets up in a position just to the left of the door and waits for the rest of the group to see what they will do. It seems odd that he would be here waiting fo everyone and not have more guards.
Theodor rushes into the room. You can seethe device from this distance. It is a black obelisk adorned with jewels with an eye of Gargul carved into the side. The eye is where the projection is emanating from. Something appears to be wrong with the eye...
As for your questioning of the creature he bellows back, "The child is an integral part of my plans and I will not just release her. I am here as a scout for my dark queen." Then his mood appears to turn angry. "Our contact here was the Baker, but somehow he was found out and executed by the prince."
Vauhwyt, you go the farthest into the room. You are completely focused on the creature. As you get closer you see that it has a mouth full of teeth. It is a smoky shade of grey that seems to continue to move even though he is standing completely still. And the most fearsome thing is his eyes. It is like looking straight into the abyss. Even from this distance when he looks at you it feels like he is trying to cut your soul from your body.
The creature merely stands and appears to wait. If it had the facial features for it you would think he is smiling at you, but all you get are a bunch of teeth.
Also, you all now notice that Zayne is no longer with you.
Olyn *ac24(dodge~beast, hp32, Bless, Detect Undead) d20+6=23 Wednesday January 26th, 2005 8:43:04 AM

Berlon [AC 20 HP 19 - S.O Dietrich (2h 12 m), bless, fire res 2] d20+4=9 Wednesday January 26th, 2005 9:01:35 AM
"Friend Theo! Can you run up Friend Vauhwyt and give her that sack I gave you? Tell her to throw it at the feet of the creature when she is within about 20 feet. That should at least bind the creature until we get the child to safety."
Berlon fires his crossbow at the creature without much success. (hits AC 9) He then moves as close as he can to the creature. (Move 15')
ooc If you guys want to try the Tanglefoot Bag, he should be able to dig it up as a move action then move as a second move action. Up to you.
Vauhwyt and Mookie (AC21, HP24 of 24, enlarged, bless, shield, charging, mage armor, 2 hp fire resist) and Mookie (AC17, HP12 of 12, bless, enlarge, mage armor, 2 hp fire resist) d20+14=21 d20+5=23 d20+12=29 d4+5=6 Wednesday January 26th, 2005 10:55:19 AM
[OOC: Since the room is 120 feet in diameter, and since Vauhwyt moved 40 last turn, another 80 (or less, with her 10 foot reach) should get her to the enemy. Right?]
Mookie flies -- and all he does is move this round -- up, over the beam, and to the far side of the enemy, being careful not to get in reach of an attak of opportunity. He ends the round on the far side of it.
Vauhwyt charges! She leaps over the beam (or at least tries her best to avoid it) -- Jump 21 to do so if needed.
As soon as she is in 10 feet of the enemy, she grabs it! She does her best to wrestle it to the ground.
[Normally initiating a grapple provokes an attack of opportunity -- but since Vauhwyt starts her attack ten feet from the opponent, I'm hoping he can't reach her to take the AoO she provokes.]
[With Mookie flanking on the far side, and with Olyn's bless, plus her +3 Str, +1 BAB, and -2 size penalty for being huge, her modifier for the touch attack to grab it and start the grapple is +5. Her touch attack hits AC23 to start the grapple!]
[Her grapple check, assuming this thing is medium in size, is BAB +1, Str +3, and size +8, for a +12 grapple modifier. Her grapple check is 29! Unless the foe can beat that with an opposed grapple check, he is grappled! If he is grappled (and I hope he is), then he takes 6 hp lethal damage (due to Improved Unarmed Strike feat plus +2 Taur charge damage bonus). Woot!]
"Squeeze him, Boss!" caws Mookie!
Dietrich, ac 19, 26/29 hp, shield, bless, fire res d20+4=22 d20+4=17 Wednesday January 26th, 2005 1:35:04 PM
Seeing his friends entering the room and advancing towards the enemy, Dietrich regains his spirits and moves after them (will 22).
He looks at the sides for other threats (spot 17) and doesn't give much importance to the monster's talk, but is surprised at Zayne disappearing.
The warrior shakes his head at VAuhwyt charging (he meant they should wait and intercept anyone getting near to the group, so that people could fire and cast magic first...), but as it is, he fastdraws his greatsword and runs as fast as he can to help her.
Vorelle [AC 17; HP 22/27] d20+3=13 Wednesday January 26th, 2005 5:28:01 PM
The distress of the child galvanizes Vorelle into action. She moves into the room [Will save 13], putting away her longbow as she goes. She moves as far as she can toward the child, confident that her companions can deal with the Big Baddie for the time being.
Theodore and Macaw HP 13/13 AC 17 (mage armor, resistance, & bless) d20+3=11 Wednesday January 26th, 2005 10:32:24 PM
Seeing Vauhwyt move into the fray, the tanglefoot bag idea quickly goes out the door. Instead, Theodore is more concerned with the magic device, thinking it to be some kind of gate.
Theodore mutters an incantation while keeping his eyes focused on the magical sphere. A globe of blackness appears around the mage, centered on the staff he holds in his right hand. Then he tosses the staff towards the magical device.
(Cast Darkness on staff and toss it to land under the "eye" hoping darkness will stop or impede the projection. Attack roll of 11 if needed.)

Both of my sisters have been using my comp for homework one of them was copying cd's for a friend and the other who will be moving in the fall has been doing her financial aid, scholarship applications, registration, and looking up information on living expenses where she'll be.
DM Jamie d20=5 Friday January 28th, 2005 6:29:54 AM I will have an updated map available tonite. Has everyone been able to locate and view the map?
Just to clear it up for a few of you, the creature is on the other side of the room and it is some type of statue on the dias to the left of the entrance.
Olyn, you make your way into the room. Without even having to get within the obligatory 60 foot radius you know that he is an undead.
Vauhwyt, you do not make it over the beam, but when ou are in it's light you feel different, it's odd, but you feel nothing. As soon as you are past it the feeling is gone. I need a Fortitude save DC 13 as you close with the creature as he turns to you and says, "Die". if you save then you will have him grappled.
Creatures AC is 20, 12 touch, and 18 flat footed
Dietrich, you find that their are no other creatures in the room. Although, you do see movement through the gate projection on the wall.
Vorelle, you close in on the child and will make it their in the next round. You see that it is a human female. She looks to be about 7 years old. Her clothes are tattered and torn. She has blood running down her back from whip marks. You can see her shudder from time to time.
Theodore, when the staff lands on the dias the projection on the wall disappears, but only for a moment. The darkness seems to be absorbed into the oblisk. You do notice that as the projection momentarily disappeared that the creature seemed startled.

Theodore and Macaw HP 13/13 AC 17 (mage armor, dodge) 2d4(2+4)+2=8 Saturday January 29th, 2005 1:54:45 PM
Theodore notices the surprise on the creature's face at his little trick. To those just entering the room, he says, "Destroy that item. It could be a gate preparing to bring in more enemies."
Then, Theodore points two fingers at the enemy monster and intones a magical word. Two silvery missiles speed from his fingers to strike their enemy.
Dietrich, ac 19, 26/29 hp, shield, bless, fire res d20+7=12 Sunday January 30th, 2005 9:55:16 AM
Dietrich is enraged by the sight of the child and the undead's dark magic and attacks it with his sword, but misses (hits ac 12) (assuming he is in range after running last round).
He hears Theo's call, but will keep the creature distracted while other partymembers try to destroy the artefact.
Vorelle [AC 17; HP 22/27] d20+7=11 d6+1=7 Sunday January 30th, 2005 12:18:01 PM
Seeing Olyn move to the child, and hearing Theo's call for the artifact to be destroyed, Vorelle swerves toward it, drawing her handaxes as she goes. If she still has an action left when she gets there, she swings one of her axes at it.

Mookie, when you fly over to your master he appears to be in some sort of nightmare. His brow is wrinkled and beads of sweat are forming on it as if he were in some sort of mental challenge.
Olyn, the girl is breathing shallow. You get sanctuary off without a hitch. As you complete the spell the creature looks at you and you see what little color was in his face fade away. He must have missed you while he was dealing with Vauhwyt. "Get away from her," He screams. "You will ruin everything." He runs at you to attack. Hits AC 6 so he misses.
There is a flash of light as Vorelle hits the artifact and all are drawn to looking through the gate. It is a land beyond anyones imagination. Immediately outside the gate is a flat expanse of land about 100 feet in diameter. After that it looks as if there is a great chasm. On the other side of the chasm, which looks to have only one rope bridge covering the distance, are rivers of a mercury looking substance (For those of you that know about WoldsBlood that is what this is) that cascade overhe far side of that chasm. Every once in a while a cloud of vapor can be seen billowing up from the bottom of he chasm as the liquid thunders over. Just off to the side of the portal can be seen the undead that you chased of along with some Orcs. They seem to be in battle with a humanoid wearing shining full plate armor. He looks to be winning.
Then off in the distance you can see a group of creatures coming towards the ope bridge. They seme to have about 10 minutes to go before they get there.
Theodore, the undead takes your missiles in stride.
Dietrich, you are now behind the creature as he is closed with Olyn.
Vorelle, when you close with the artifact you see that it is encrusted with jewels and other precious stones. On the face of the artifact projecting the portal there is an eye of Gargul, but it has been desicrated with blood and entrails. It has also been marred with some type of scrapings.
Cayzle, I had a crash and lost my addresses along with some other data. Can you email me and I will send you what is going on in your head? Thanks.

Berlon will make a move action and attempt to get into flanking position with Dietrich (first option) or Olyn, then make an attack with his mace.
He swings his heavy mace at the foul creature but misses (hits AC 13 w/o flanking bonus, AC 15 if he can flank, if I am able to flank w/ either Dietrich or Olyn they also get +2 to hit as well.)
If Berlon can't get into flanking position with a move action, he will run towards a flanking position, moving 45'.

Making up her mind, she leaves the dais and moves to stand between the projected image and where her friends are battling Big Bad. Axes at the ready, she watches the image.

As the sceen unfolds...
Dietrich, you get a good connection with the creature as you feel your blade cut into flesh. The creature seems to stagger a bit and almost go down to one knee.
Berlon makes it into position and asists Olyn and Dietrich with keeping the creature at bay.
Vorelle, as you watch you see the lone figure in shining armor battle the few orcs and ndead remaining on this side of the rope bridge. Nearing the bridgeis the new hoard of orcs and gobblins.
Theodore, this is some type of device to open gates between realms. It is very old and you can feel the power course off of it. The desecration of the eye of gargul is unfortunate, but can possibly be repaired. It looks as if this particular artifact opens a gate to the shadowlands. There loks to be some type of skull indention located on the top of the device.
Olyn, the creature swings at you. And once again misses horribly. He screams in frustration. The girls is starting to breath normally as she stabilizes and heals.
Rose you will make it there this round and get into position, but you will be unable to attack until next post.
I will hve an updated map tonite. Essentially the only two people that have moved are Vorelle and Rose. Rose is now over with Olyn getting ready to attack the creature and Vorelle is watching the gate.
OCC: Cayzle I am having such a hard time with my computer I am just going to post it here.
Vauhwyt, You pick yourself up off the ground and dust yourself off. s you look around everything seems fuzzy, like you are looking at everything after you have drank one to many green gnomishes. There are three things that are clear though. You see your body at your feet, you see the creature looking at you, and you see the gate. You also see everything else going on, but like I said it is fuzzy. You see Mookie kneeling over your body. You see the rest of the part engaged with a fuzzy version of the creature staring at you. You seem to be in some sort of battle of wills. You have the feeling that the longer you are here the harder it will be for you to win.
Then something happens. You can make out one of the party members strike the fuzzy version of the creature. At that moment the clear version seems to waver and turn his head to see what happened. You feel the hold the creature had loosen on your soul.

Feeling the attention of the odd being lapse, she tries to focus ... but to no avail (will save 9). "Huh! what kind of adventurer are you, anyway," she thinks to herself. Then she digs deep and draws on a hidden reservoir of will power. (using a hero point to reroll) She breaks free! Falling into her body, she feels confused.

Things appear to be going downhill for the creature fast. He looks a little panicey.
Olyn, with your positive energy you are able to deal the blow to drive him over the edge of insanity. He howles at the pain of the healing touch and turns to flee. He runs straight for the gate. The path he takes to get him to the gate will give everyone but theodore an attack of opportunity.
Theodore, your spel goes of as planned and the rope bridge is now covered in web. That should slow down the horde of Goblins and Orc when they get to the bridge.
Vorelle, as you are watching you see a web appear on the rope bridge. You also see the humanoid in armor strike down he last mummy. As he does he turns towards the hoard and appears to just wait. As you watch you any wounds that were covering his body heal up and disappear. As for what is going on on this side of the gate, you hear a scream and when you turn to look you see the creature that the party has been battling running away from the party towards the gate. It will take him past you.

when the creature turns to flee, Olyn throws himself full force upon the creature saying: I gave you no leave, so stay you will.

Dietrich sees the creature trying to escape and attacks it with all his strenght from behind and a second time when the monster trys to pass through him. (first powerattack hits ac 15, second ac 13 *&^*^)
As he misses, the warrior swears, yelling: "By the Gods, DIEEE *^(*&*(!!"

OOC: If Olyn or Dietrich trips it, it gets -4 AC for being prone, not -2 (phb 151)
Berlon swings his mace and grunts in anger as his attack misses the creature again, (AoO hits AC 13) probably because he can't stop glancing at the gate.
If the creature isn't subdued and runs, Berlon will attend to the child to get a better idea of what condition she's in.
If the creature is tripped or grappled or otherwise not running away, Berlon will pull a scroll of Cure Moderate Wounds from his cloak (move action) and use it on the creature (standard action).
Melee Touch Attack hits AC 18 (his should be 8 if he's prone for a touch attack I believe) and sears the creature for 17 points of damage.
Vorelle d20+7=19 d6+1=7 Thursday February 3rd, 2005 3:17:30 PM
If the creature moves past her, Vorelle strikes at it.

Otherwise, she keeps an eye on the projected image.
Theodore and Macaw HP 13/13 AC 17 (mage armor & dodge) d20+3=18 Thursday February 3rd, 2005 3:21:06 PM
Theodore's attention is drawn back to the fleeing creature as it heads towards the gate. Acting on instinct, the young mage drops his quarterstaff and reaches into his backpack, retrieving the bag that Berlon had given him only a short while ago. "Let's hope this thing does what it's supposed to..."
He grunts as he chucks the bag at the retreating undead. The bag flies true and explodes upon impact, covering the monster in a sticky substance.
(Throws tanglefoot bag, hits with a ranged touch attack of 18. Item description on p 128 PHB.)

As the creature tries to flee, Olyn's attempt to trip is successful. And the creature goes down hard as his face smashes into the floor.
Berlon gets off his Cure Moderate Wounds on the creature causing it even more pain.
Rose gets in her attacks as well. On her second attack the creature screams in pain and utters these words. "I beat death once for a trivial matter. I swear my Martues that I will return to kill all of you." With that the creature stops moving.

feeling the creatures body go limp, Olyn jumps up. retrieving a vial of holy water from his belt he unstoppers it, pours the entire contents upon the body, and says a prayer to Wardd asking that this creatures trapped soul be allowed to pass beyond Gargul's gates and into the resting place it deems fit to go.
then he rushes to the child, checks her for more wounds. (heal of 13) will tend to those wounds, giving the child reassurances of safety, and even offers her a ride on Vauhwyt to help cheer her up.

Dietrich is relieved with the monster dying. He prays for Gargul when Olyn uses the holy water and trys to get some drops at his sword too.
Then he cuts the head of the creature off. "You can never know... Also, we need an identification for the temple."
As the child seems to be ok and is being tendered by the clerics, Dietrich moves besides Vorelle and keeps ready to attack anything coming through the portal.

Vauhwyt goes over to the Gate or Image or whatever it is.
She wonders if this is where she would have gone if she had not been able to return to her body.
Vauhwyt looks at the Holy Warrior and shouts out to him. "HEY!? MISTERR! YOU WANT WE SHOULD KEEP THIS DOOR OPEN OR SHUT?"
Mookie is not sure this is a good idea. "Boss, that guy's killing mummies and stuff. Maybe you should just leave him alone."

Berlon's hands tremble slightly, although he doesn't seem to be afraid. "The woldsblood, this is a sign..." With an almost blank face he walks over to the where the projection is coming from, cleaning it and casting Mending to try to remove whatever desecration he can.
"Unless I am mistaken, this place is a gate to the Reamls of Shadow and Beyond. I... I think we need to assist that warrior as soon as possible..."
Berlon then relates any information a Knowledge: Religion check of 14 yields.
(ooc Dunno if you want to throw a +2 circumstance bonus for the K:R check due to the whole Alemi/Gargul/woldsblood/Fixer thing, or if a 16 instead of a 14 matters. Cast Mending, scroll removed from CS)
Theodore and Macaw Friday February 4th, 2005 6:08:52 PM
Theodore turns away to keep from seeing Dietrich lop the monster's head off. He quickly restashes the tanglefoot bag in his satchel.
He focuses intently on Berlon's administrations over the artifact. "What are you trying to accomplish?" he asks the gnome, as one colleague might to another.

For those of you tending to the girl, her wounds are all healed, but she is still unconscious. She does have significant scarring across her back and around her wrists and ankles. Her hair is matted with dried blood and dirt. Her skin is very pale from a combination of malnourishment and lack of sun. She looks to be maybe 6 or 7.
Dietrich, you have no problem lopping off the head. When you do, however, the body starts to dissolve into an icky black mass.
Berlon, when you begin to clear off the artifact you can feel the power emanating off of it. It looks as if at one point in time this might have been a holy place, but not anymore. The artifact has been damaged extensively upon close inspection. It will only be a matter of time until it no longer functions properly, but then you ask yourself what is proper function for an artifact?
Rose, upon close inspection of the device you see that it is old and powerful. It is difficult to make out any of the writing anymore. Someone went through a lot of trouble to make sure no one would know anything about this device. Everything but the eye of Gargul, which is projecting the gate, has been scratched out somehow. You also notice that there is a hole located on the artifact that looks like the outline of a small skull.
Those of you standing at the gate. The scene unfolds... As the pack of goblins and orcs gets to the bridge they are unable to cross because of the web that has been cast there. They begin to line their edge of the crevasse. It looks like there are about 20 of them.
When Vauhwyt yells the warrior turns, a bit startled, and looks at the group. Vauhwyt, his is what you hear, {Highlight to display spoiler: { "I was once a great paladin of Alemi from the Wold. I became trapped in a pocket realm when I gave my life to save my friends from death. When that pocket real collapsed I was thrust into the shadow lands. I am never able to return to the Wold because of the changes I experienced in the pocket realm. So I vowed to protect the Wold from attacks by other pocket realms that still exist. A new threat has emerged, Marteus has created a new pocket realm and they have now found a way to bridge the gap to the Wold. That is where these creatures are from. You have to destroy the artifact in order to close the gate. I know it won't stop the creature, but it will prolong their crossing and hopefully give the Wold time to prepare. Goodbye noble warrior. I will hold them long enough for you to destroy the gate." You can feel a great sorrow in his heart when he speaks of the Wold, but as he turns from you to face the oncoming hoard you can fee his spirits soar in anticipation of the battle. }} This happen in a flash.
Everyone else sees the warrior turn, look through the portal, and then turn back. The hoard, in the meantime, has pulled out bows and knocked arrows. One of the humanoids, a half-orc from the looks of him, draws his sword and raises it. Then drops it. At that signal all of the other release their arrows and send a volley across the crevasse towards the warrior. They then reload and fire again.
The warrior pulls a large shield from across his back and crouches behind it. As the arrows begin to strike he tilts it slightly upwards and begins to inch towards the bridge. Most of the arrows glance off, but a few of them pierce the shield and it looks as if a few of those pierce his shield bearing arm.
As he approaches the bridge the web begins to dissolve and about half of the hoard drops their bows, draw their swords and makes for the bridge. The remaining continues to fire arrows at the warrior.

As you hack at the artifact yuo can see that you are slowly destroying it. As pieces fly off, sometimes you see the image waver a bit. But it looks as if you still have a ways to go.
And the scene in the gate unfolds...
As the warrior crosses the bridge he is pelted with arrows from the half of the hoard that stayed on the other side of the crevasse. After their second volley he meets with the first of the half that crossed the bridge.
You can almost feel the power of the blows through the portal. You can see the determination in the warriors actions. He will not allow any to cross.
Several of the hoard on the bridge fall back to the ledge and pull their bows in order to help weaken the warrior down.
Then the unthinkable happens, the warrior staggers on the bridge. He has been taking alot of arrows and it looks to be wearing on him. The orc he is directly battling seems to smile as he strikes. His blade diggs deep into the warrior's left shoulder and you can hear the bone crunch.
The warrior is thrown backwards about 10 feet from the orc. He stands and does something unexpected. He throws his sword at the first orc and it pierces him in the chest, sinking all the way to the hilt. He then closes and begins to attack with his hands to keep them from advancing across the bridge.

"Friend Rose is already... attending to the device, and I am virtually out of spells. And if Friend Theodore uses any magic, make sure everyone gets clear first..."
Berlon tries to make a quick Search of the room, but there is an awful lot going on. (Search roll 8)

Under the constant barage of attacks the artifact is begining to crack and the gate is flickering more often.
Between flicks you can see the battle taking place on the bridge. The Orcs have begun to swarm over the warrior, but he has not let any of them cross the bridge yet. He gets in a blow here and there and they are always well placed. Then it happens, one of the Orcs picks up a goblin and flings him at the warrior. He was not expecting that and crashes over the edge of the rope bridge. He catches the rope railing on his way over and is now hanging off the side of the bridge while the Orcs begine to cross.
The warrior looks at the gate and you all hear in your minds "You are all braver than you know, smarter than you think, and stronger than you feel. Someday ytou will be great warriors." As he says this he swings his sword across the bridge, cutting it. As the bridge begins to plummet one of the Orcs leaps for the edge of the crevasse and makes it.
As he pulls himself up he looks at the gate and smiles. He begins to walk towards it. Then the gate fizzles out. The artifact has takren as much damage as it can and it collapses into a pile of rock and jewels.
Olyn Wednesday February 9th, 2005 9:30:56 AM
dropping to his knees, and bowing his head, Olyn begins praying for the fallen warrior.
after a few minutes of this, he gets up, returns to Berlon and takes the child back in his arms like a loving father would his own child saying: let's go, Now!
Theodore and Macaw Wednesday February 9th, 2005 9:48:06 AM
Theodore puts a shaking hand to the cold wall where the gate had stood. His head droops. "Another one..." he says softly.
Silently agreeing with Olyn's urging to withdraw, the young wizard clenches his fist and pushes the pain away. Turning to face the group, he concentrates on Macaw, still at the entrance to the house, to make sure everything is clear and there are no surprises.
Dietrich Wednesday February 9th, 2005 9:52:27 AM
Dietrich accompanies Olyn's pray for the fallen hero and wonders what has actually happened here.
Before the group returns to the temple though, he suggests to have a good search of the room and to make sure nothing dangerous is left behind.

"It's a sign, the Shadow Realms, the Woldsblood, it's a sign..."
He steadies himself and addresses the group.
"Friends, once this is behind us and the child is safe, I need to seek out a Fixer of Alemi..."
Vauhwyt and Mookie Wednesday February 9th, 2005 3:27:38 PM
The destruction of the machine and the final thoughts of the brave warrior echo in Vauhwyt's head, and she pauses in silent reflection.
Mookie, on the other hand, has a raven's eyes for the glitter of jewels among the ruins of the device. "Boss! Boss! Lookee here! In fact, look at this place!"
Vauhwyt does just that, looking at the ruins of the device, and then at the vast underground chamber.
She turns to all her friends, and calls for a pow-wow.
"Everybody, can we just talk for a little while? We have to think this all through."
"Recently we've been falling into advantures, and then we blab about them all over town, or at least to the Prince and the Church and the WLA. We're starting to get a reputation, and I'm not sure that's such a good idea."
"Plus look at this place! The space here is incredible. Someone went to a lot of effort to carve this chamber out of rock. maybe we don't want that someone to know it was us that foiled his plans."
"Here is my suggestion. Bring the head of this undead thing to the church so they can cure the boy. Talk with the child herre, gently, to find out what we can. Keep this place a secret. Lock it up, and find out who owns it. Buy the shop above it, maybe, to keep other people out. Place a watch over it to see who tries to enterr."
"This is not the end -- the Paladin of Alemi made that clearr. We can't afford to expose our hand now. We need to act quietly and get more info. We have to find out who in Dirt City is behind this plot. We can't do that if everyone in town knows it was us who interfered in the first place."
"Come on, friends! This is Dirt City! We have to stop stumbling around like babes and act with our heads for a change. We need every edge we can get so that the Paladin's sacrifice will mean something."
"First thing, somebody, maybe Olyn and Vorelle, please tend to the child and talk with her. Rose, maybe you could keep look-out for anyone entering the room above? And the rest of us -- detect magic and search this entire place. Let's take a half hour and really make sure we're not missing anything. How does that sound?"
Vorelle d20+9=20 Thursday February 10th, 2005 2:01:44 AM
