The Gate
Scene 1 - Two Tiny Burglars

DM Jamie
Monday December 6th, 2004 7:53:51 PM

"One holds the key to the Gate, and at the hight (sic) shall let them through. They will walk. Martoos (sic) will rejoice."

A sentence from The Book - transcribed onto posters, which are pinned up in every tavern, in every market, on both levels.

After a few weeks of upheaval, where every reference in The Book has been followed through - this is the only puzzle left, and it has everyone baffled.

It doesn't help that the Houses, still reeling from the repercussions, refuse to put their heads together and help one another solve it, and so in desperation, the Prince has had the information posted everywhere, hoping that someone will discover something.

Rumours breed - orc hordes from the mid lands, some evil magic up near the battlefield, are among them.

Several days after the dinner table discussion, Billie and Timmi arrive at the doorstep asking for help. They are both disheveled and soiled. They are covered in a coating of grime and sweat. They look as if they have not slept for quite a while and their eyes are wide with terror. Billie is nursing his arm.

"Can we come in and get some help for this....wound?" Timmi says with some hesitation.

"We were...playing and a dog bit Billie. I don't think it is serious, but if we tell dad about it he will get mad."

ushering the boys to the table Olyn will pull out his medicine bag.

Rose, would you help Billie off with his shirt, Vorelle, please fetch me a bowl of clean water. Zayne, some towels if you will please.

before calling upon the will of Wardd to cure the young boys' arm, I will gently wash the grime and blood away from Billie's arm, revealing the nature of the wound.

*heal check of 26*

after determining if there is anything strange with the bite, like poison or some infection.

placing his right hand on Billie's arm carefully, and holding a pair of dice in his other, Olyn will call upon Wardd's will to heal the young lad and make his arm whole again.
then, tossing 2 dice on the table, they come to a stop next to Billie's arm with the #s 7 and a 6. (13hp healing)

waits to see what happens, if anything.

Vorelle
Monday December 6th, 2004 11:58:45 PM

On Olyn's instruction, Vorelle brings water, and also takes out her own healer's kit. Olyn seems to have the situation well in hand, though.

"Billy, Timmy you know better than to play with strange dogs. Why dont you see if your dad will buy you one that he knows isn't sick?

Rose brings some warm water, soap, some clean rags, and anything else needed.

Tuesday December 7th, 2004 11:08:01 AM

Vauhwyt watches the lanlord's boys. "What did you kids get into?" she asks.

Berlon  d20+6=23
Tuesday December 7th, 2004 12:35:47 PM

Berlon is intrigued by the posters being put up across town. When he has some free time this evening, he will go over some of the few Holy Texts he has at home to see if he can come up with anything on this Book thing. (Knowledge: Religion check 23)

Berlon has also been wondering about what he thinks have been strange looks when out in public. He hasn't been doing anything out of the ordinary, outside of making it a point to wear the cloak Uncle Knobby left to him. Maybe it's just his imagination...

Theodore and Macaw
Tuesday December 7th, 2004 1:27:34 PM

Theodore is glad to see the two youngsters. He hasn't heard from them in a while and is anxious to catch up with them. He is concerned with the wound but, boys will be boys. Nothing out of the ordinary to him.

Zayne
Tuesday December 7th, 2004 3:17:09 PM

(OOC: sorry about the missed post, got beat up by a nasty cold and I haven't been out of bed for the last couple days, all better now.)

Having been absent from the group's activites for the last couple days,he was following a dead end lead on Vorelle's mysterious assailant. He walks into the apartment shortly after the boys do with their injuries.

He watches as the women fuss and mother the boys,he chuckles slightly as he watches them,"You two have quite the knack of getting in over your heads don't you? What were you doing to the dog? Most dogs just don't go around biting little boys." As usual he treats his absence as if his being gone a couple days were merely a few minutes.

DM Jamie
Wednesday December 8th, 2004 12:23:59 AM

It's a nasty bite. It also has the smell of the dead about it.

Those of you that check the bite find that the bite was made by 'human' teeth marks.

"We was just playing. And...", Billie starts, but under the questions of the group he starts crying. "We just thought we would go exploring. And then this thing jumps out and bites Timmi. We just ran out of there as quick as possible."

"I almost forgot," he blurts out, "We were at Old Toomeys."

Olyn, when you place your hands upon Timmi and pray only a bit of the power you channel towards Timmi is accepted. The wound barely closes when you try to heal him.

Berlon you get a few quick glances as you walk down the street. While walking you notice two boys walking quickly across the street. They keep looking around and one of them is bleeding enough to leave blood drops on the ground.

Everyone else brings whatever is needed to help with the boys.

Dietrich  d20+4=21
Wednesday December 8th, 2004 10:00:30 AM

Dietrich finds it a little strange that the conversation about group organization suddenly finishes without a decision and wonders if this means his proposals have been accepted by the party.

When he sees the sentence from the book, he doesn't have a direct clue, but feels it is something for the group to look after and is glad they'll have a task.

Dietrich is cleaning his beloved masterwork great-sword when the boys enter the appartment and, at first, he doesn't pay very much attention to them. But when he realises that the wound was inflicted by human teeth and he feels the smell of dead, the fighter is alarmed, remembering the episodes with ghouls and the small vampires the group faced underground. He stops what he was doing and goes have a closer look at both (sense motivation 21) while his friends ask more details.

OOC. Hi Tim, Dietrich doesn't have any magic besides the RIng of Featherfall, so just wright me some ideas to my e-mail: lcpeter@ig.com.br. Cheers!

closing his eyes he begins mouthing silently. as if talking to himself.

opening his eyes he starts mouthing words of divine power. then, touching Billie, he unleashes a wave of energy upon him.

stepping back he closes his eyes again and concentrates upon the young lad.

Theodore and Macaw
Wednesday December 8th, 2004 10:50:42 AM

"Did you get a look at what bit you?" Theodore asks. "You two should know better, by now. One day your going to wind up in a predicament you can't get yourselves out of."

Vorelle  d20+7=22
Wednesday December 8th, 2004 11:16:43 AM

Vorelle is alarmed when Olyn's healing spell doesn't work. She examines the wound herself, using her own knowledge of healing to try to figure out what is wrong.

[Heal check 22, or 24 if the Healer's Kit bonus applies]

Berlon
Wednesday December 8th, 2004 12:52:46 PM

Just before Berlon races after the boys to see how badly they are hurt, he makes a mental note of where in the city they are, and where the boys might have came from. He gives the street a quick look to see how obvious the trail of blood is, in case it shows where other victims might be. He may or may not have to find someone with actual tracking skills, but that's for later.

He then chases after the boys to see if they need help. Once he seems them enter the apartment, he knocks and says "Hail Friend! My name is Berlon and I am a healer, and do those boys need assistance? Forgive my abruptness but if they are all right I will go check to see if they had any companions who might be too injured to move."

If let into the apartments, if needed I will check on the boys, including giving one or both of them a Cure Mod Wounds Potion he draws from his cloak.

If I am not let in, or if everything is under control, I say "Then I will go check to see if the trail is still there." I give the two potions to whoever answered the door ("Use them if needed")then go back to where I first saw the boys. Anyone who wants to come will be accepted without discussion.

OOC: Either way the potions are 2d8+4, caster level 4. Anything from my knowledge check yesterday, Jamie?

Zayne  d20=17
Wednesday December 8th, 2004 12:59:05 PM

Stepping across the room to where Olyn is treating the bite, still smiling,"I am going to tell you what I think happened. The two of you were curious about what happened to Old Toomey,so the two of you decided to see if you could get inside and while you were satisfying your curiosity, you were met with a nasty surprise." The smile leaves his face,"Now boys in order to make sure you are ok you have to tell us what really happened. I don't want to scare you but there are bad things out there that can bite you,and the bites can do nasty things to you. Please tell us what really happened." He keeps his voice real calm.(Diplomacy 17)

Vauhwyt and Mookie  d20+2=11 d20+3=11
Wednesday December 8th, 2004 3:49:16 PM

Vauhwyt the Liontaur answers the door and sees a new person eager to enter.

"Not so fast, Mister Gnome," she says. "What is your name and business herre?" There is a bit of an accent in her words.

When he answers, she says, "Hmm, a healer. Well, Berlon, we could use a healerr, although we have a couple of our own."

The gnome says he is worried about any other casualties, which strikes Vauhwyt as a noble sentiment.

She asks her familiar, a raven, "Mookie, what do you think of this guy?" [OOC: Mookie's aid another check to help Vauhwyt's untrained sense motive suceeds with an 11.]

"He seems honest enough, in a dumpy sort of way. Not cute like Rose," says the impudent bird.

Vauhwyt is not so sure [Sense Motive check 11], but lets Berlon in. "Well, I dunno. Myabe you know something. Come on in. the boys are over herre."

The apartment is small, and a little crowded with all the people in it. Some care has been taken with the furnishings and decor, though.

She welcomes the gnome in but watches him closely.

DM Jamie
Wednesday December 8th, 2004 11:22:56 PM

Everyone is fussing over the boys. Whether they are trying to take care of their wound or they are trying to ascertain what went on during the boys excursion.

Berlone, you are let into the apartment. It is quaint, but small for the amount of people. You are allowed to look at the boys. Careful examination reveals that there is a human bite on one of the boys' arms, it smells of death and looks like it is resisting any attempts by the rest of the healers to heal it. Also, with regards to your check into the book, you vaguely remember something about a bard and a book of great evil, but nothing more. It was something from you very early days.

Olyn, Billie is diseased and he is poisoned. It seems to be something you have never encountered before for it to resist your healing. This will take some time.

Vorelle, you are only able to ascertain what has already been revealed. That Billie was bitten by a human mouth and smells of death.

With several sets of eyes looking at the wound you all come to the conclusion it could be some type of magical disease, but none of you can pinpoint which one it is.

With all of the questions flying at them the boys almost seem revealed when Zayne puts everything together and all they have to do is nod their heads. They confirm what Zayne conveyed.

The two boys look at one another and nod. "It was some human shaped thing that jumped out at us while we were in the house. We never got a good look at it. After it bit Billie we pretty much just concentrated on getting out of the house. For the longest time we just ran. I couldn't even focus on landmarks in order to find out where we were. We always thought we could hear it behind us, gaining..."

Anyone that is watching the boys can tell they are telling the truth. You can sense it in the way they relive the story.

Thursday December 9th, 2004 12:48:34 AM

looking at Billie's wound, and the conglomeration of minds ascertaining the cause and remedy, Olyn witll gently take the boy in his arms, and head to the temple as quickly as possible.

as he leaves the apartment he will say aloud: one of you get Jeraldh and have him meet us at the temple. the rest of you, gather your gear, and mine too, and follow me to the temple.

you can hear his voice as he gets farther away: something tells me we are gonna go undead hunting today.

Rose
Thursday December 9th, 2004 12:49:11 AM

Rose looks worried when the wound doesnt heal. "I think someone had better tell your father about this boys. Do you know where he is?"

Dietrich
Thursday December 9th, 2004 8:59:01 AM

The warrior shivers and swears at the thought of undead, but get his stuff ready and follows Olyn to the temple. He touches his own amullet and makes a silent pray to Domi and Gargul.

The massive and heavy armed Dietrich takes a closer look at the Gnome who suddenly appeared at their appartement and nods friendly to the healer.

Berlon
Thursday December 9th, 2004 10:03:17 AM

"My apologies again for my abrupt intrusion. My name is Berlon Daengle, two weeks new to the city. My Great Uncle Knobby bequeathed to me his alchemy lab, and I've been running a small apothecary out of the side of my home. I have seen a few of you around town, but I haven't had the pleasure of meeting any of you."

"If you would have a relative stranger, I would be happy to accompany you to check out the source of this vileness, especially if the boys are going to be looked after at the temple. Are we sure they didn't have any friends or anyone else with them?"

"If you would have me, I would need to run home and pick up my equipment. If you're not interested in having me, I understand. I will check in on the boys in the temple if you'd rather...."

Vorelle
Thursday December 9th, 2004 12:11:04 PM

Quietly, Vorelle gathers hear healer's kit back together and tucks it into her belt pouch. She makes sure her axes are in place--although peacebonded, becuase she is Below. She puts her magic quiver containing her bow and 50 arrows on her back.

She takes her time doing all of this, keeping a watchful eye on the stranger who invited himself in. He seems harmless enough, but this is Dirt City, after all. She will not leave the apartment until he does.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Thursday December 9th, 2004 5:25:12 PM

Vauhwyt agrees with Rose. "I'm fast! I'll go talk to the boys' fatherr, Jeraldh. Then I'll meet you at the Temple."

She dashes off. "Hey Boss, slow down!" caws Mookie as he flaps after her.

(Clearly, she has already forgotten her own suggestion that they travel in groups, never alone, at all times!)

Theodore and Macaw
Thursday December 9th, 2004 9:05:46 PM

Theodore nods to Olyn and collects his gear before heading off with his friend. Macaw follows close behind after a sharp peck on the head to Billie to remind him to be more sensible.

DM Jamie
Thursday December 9th, 2004 10:20:54 PM

The boys father is notified of the bite and he, along with Vauhwyt and Mookie, meet up with everyone else at the temple.

The priests lay the boy out on a table and begin to examine him. After some time they look up and say, "We need the creature that bit him in order for us to see if we can cure him. Right now there is nothing we can do."

Jeraldh, upon hearing this, breaks down into tears. "Why couldn't you have found someplace safer to break into?"

He turns to the party," Please can you help?"

Rose
Friday December 10th, 2004 2:09:21 AM

"Of course we can!" Rose impulsively exclaims. "Now boys, tell us every single thing that you did today, so we can get a good idea of what to do and where to go. Could this thing have followed you from someplace?"

Olyn
Friday December 10th, 2004 8:58:49 AM

while taking his gear from Theo, and suiting up, he turns to Jeraldh saying: I cant speak for everyone, but to me, your children are like my nephews. don't you fret, we will go and grab this creature and bring it back for the priests.

Dietrich  d20+3=7 d20+4=10
Friday December 10th, 2004 9:13:04 AM

Dietrich smiles at Berlon's exagerated politeness, though he appreciates it. The knight offers the Gnome his hand and says: "Greetings master Berlon. I'm Dietrich the Bear of the Windbourne Hills. We are glad to have your help." (diplomacy 7, sense motive 10)

Despite not liking it at all, he keeps his weapons peace-bound so long as they are Below. The first thing he does when they get Up is to unbind them and to curse the dust that gave the city its name.

At the temple, Dietrich keeps a respectful silence and is very worried the holy men can't help the boy! This seems to be very serious.

The fighter proposes to have thorough preparations before going after the undead, like buying holy water, perhaps get some info about different types of undead and their weakness and strenght.

Berlon
Friday December 10th, 2004 6:25:14 PM

"Thank you, Friend Dietrich! Your kindness is most appreciated in these trying times. I would happily join you and your companions to track down this vile..." he frowns as he looks over the boys wounds again, "...whatever it is."

"If we need, I have a selection of items at my lab, including holy water. I also already have the necessary materials to perform the Rite of Consecration, and it sounds like that may be necessary."

"If anyone would like to come to the lab to pick up some items, all are welcome. I have a few tricks up my sleeve that might be very useful in this situation." Berlon winks and gives everyone a broad smile...

Watching the gnome leave with Dietrich,he turns his attention back to the boys,"I think they have told us everything they know,I think I might be able to dig up a little more information. Which way did the creature run off to?"

Looking at Rose's familiar,"Can ask Vauhwyt to meet me in the Cloak's quarter. I have an idea and I want to run it by her first." His long nose is begining to twitch slightly.

"Someone has to have seen something besides the boys,I am going to run by the other apartmen to pick up some money,we need some answers, and I am going to find them."

He is absently tugging at his sleeves,"Rose when you get some free time can you do a little sewing for me? I think all that time in the water has made my clothes shrink or something, nothing seems to fit me anymore."

He heads out the door and runs to the otehr apartment across the way and picks up 150gp,and then heads for the Cloak's quarter.

Rose
Saturday December 11th, 2004 8:09:16 PM

"Piper please give Vauhwyt Zayne's message. Zayne of course I can do some sewing, but you'll have to help. I'll need measurments and if I cant lengthen the clothes that have shrunk then you'll have to go with me to pick out fabric." Rose says as she keeps an eye on the boys.

I just realized I had no post for Friday. I will post first thing in the morning. Sorry about the confusion.

Vorelle
Sunday December 12th, 2004 5:21:57 PM

Vorelle catches Vauhwyt's eye, then trails after Zayne. It's exciting to have a new mission, but Dirt City is still dangerous for them, and they should still avoid traveling alone.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Sunday December 12th, 2004 8:57:37 PM

Vauhwyt alerts the boys' father, then follows to the temple. She comes in as the priests are examining the boys, and she stays quiet in the back for now.

She hears Zayne mention her name to Rose, and she pipes up, "Here I am!"

"I don't like to fight undead things, but if that's what we need to save the boy, let's do it!"

She sees Vorelle, walks over, and looks at her quizzically (sp?). She whispers to Vorelle so only she can hear:

Highlight to display spoiler: {"Hey, Vorelle. What's up, sweetie?}

DM Jamie
Monday December 13th, 2004 5:30:45 AM

The seriousness of the situation is conveyed through the priests demeanor. "The creature can be either alive or dead. It will probably be better to bring it back to us dead. We are going to put the boy to sleep now to help him conserve his energy. May the gods protect you."

Everyone is at the temple right now except for Zayne, who ran off to take care of some stuff.

"We were at Old Twoomey's place. That is where the thing was," says Timmi.

The party leaves the temple. The boys and Jeraldh stay with the priests.

What is the party going to be coming up against? Is there some new evil in Dirt City? These are troubling questions going through your head. In fact the whole trip back to the apartment seems to go by in a blur. Even though it is night out up above there seems to be a different darkness about the city now. When you stop to look around you notice things. Are the crows on that rooftop staring at you? Have the buildings always seem so dirty? Have the women and children always seemed so down trodden?

When you get under the city is when you notice the most change. The lights seem dimmer than usual, like something waqs choking the brightness out of the light. People seem to be watching their surroundings more. And their is an electric feeling in the air that you can't quite place. Sometimes you think you see movement out of the corner of your eye, but you can't be certain. You have a feeling like Dirt city has changed in the last few days and it has become a little darker than it used to be.

None of you are relishing in the fact that you have to check out the bakery and go hunting for this thing.

Olyn
Monday December 13th, 2004 9:25:08 AM

before leaving the temple Olyn will purchase 5 flasks of holy water from the clergy and will inquire if they have any remove disease scrolls he could buy/have or use.

*jamie, it was my understanding that everyone brought their gear with them knowing that after dropping off Billie we would head to the bakery to kill the creature*

Dietrich
Monday December 13th, 2004 11:59:29 AM

When the group goes to BErlon's place to get some extra stuff(assuming this happens before we go after the undead, in order to keep the party together) and Olyn buys holy water Dietrich feels a little more secure. He realy dislikes the idea of undead, but there is no other way.

Dietrich feels the change that occured to the city and doesn't like Zayne going out alone, but he doesn't say anything. He's used to the ranger's sudden and mysterial disappearings and confident in his ability to keep out of trouble in his home city.

Finally, he suggests the rest of the group marches to Old Twoomey's place and wait there for Zayne and Vauhwyt.

Berlon
Monday December 13th, 2004 1:56:13 PM

When Berlon and Dietrich arrive at the lab, Berlon quickly gets his gear together. He pulls a large backpack out of a closet and quickly inspects the contents. "...silver dust... incense... acid..." Berlon mutters to himself going over the items inside.

"Don't touch that Friend Dietrich!" Berlon warns him away from his recently completed Tanglefoot Bag, still sitting on the lab's table. He gingerly picks it up and places it in the backpack. "That... would have been bad..."

He then pulls from the closet an armful of scrolls and potions, and then a crossbow and some bolts, and finally a mace and shield. Berlon seems a little embarrassed by his large amount of items. "There's an old Gnomeling expression: 'Grangle Deb' or 'Be Prepared' in the Common tongue..."

"Ah, Friend Dietrich, please take this!" He hands Dietrich a flask full of red liquid. "That will cure your wounds when I can not."

Berlon finishes loading up his backpack, asks Dietrich for some minor assistance with his half-plate, then double bands his weapons.

"We should hurry back and meet up with the others..." And with that, they leave to catch up with the rest of the group.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Monday December 13th, 2004 6:32:52 PM

The liontaur heads over to Old Twoomey's. She is careful to listen to whatever Zayne and/or Vorelle wanted to say.

She gets a funny feeling as she goes along. "Boss, this whole deal gives me the willies!" says Mookie.

For once she does not shush the bird. "Me too."

Vorelle
Monday December 13th, 2004 6:42:23 PM

Vorelle had intended to follow Zayne so he wouldn't be by himself, but for some reason finds herself trailing after the others instead. She has always found Dirt City to be an oppressive sort of place, but it seems even worse today.

She waits patiently for the others to collect any gear they might need.

Theodore and Macaw

For once, Theodore does not send Macaw ahead to scout. He keeps the raven close by as he walks silently with the rest of the group.

Rose
Tuesday December 14th, 2004 5:13:58 AM

Occ: which house was everyone at? we have two one for the guys and one for the girls.

After arranging a place to meet, Rose quickly heads home to get her things. (if she was at her house she was in to much of a hurry to gather up her things, if at the guys she didnt have them with her)

She quickly gets ready and heads out to meet the rest of the group.

DM Jamie
Tuesday December 14th, 2004 10:58:07 AM

OCC: My appologies about the house thing. I had no idea there were two houses.

Everyone gets what they need. And the Priests are more than happy to give you 7 vials of holy water, one for each person. They will give you 2 remove disease scrolls as well.

OCC: To speed this up I am going to get everyone to Old Twoomey's let me know what you did on the way there in an email if you want.

The trip to Old Twoomey's further adds to the darkness that has permeated the city. People appear to look at each other with more suspicion, you see fewer children out playing, and animals seem to cower in shadows. Sounds appear muffled by the unsettling feeling that has covered the city like a blanket. On the way there, you make several turns and find you have gone the wrong way. It is almost as if the city is trying to keep you from reaching your goal. Or it could be that you are preoccupied with the way the city has seemed to become something darker than it once was.

Everyone meets up at Old Twoomey's. It is just off the main sewer level, underground, not far from the Halfling quarter. For those of you making a spot check (DC 20) you notice that there is no activity around here. Before you turned down this branch there was activity, but now there is nothing.

As you approach the building you get a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach. The air is thick with an unsettling feeling of death. There is a foreboding feeling about this place, like there are ghosts here waiting to accomplish something long overlooked. The house itself looks like an old man at the end of his life almost as if Old Twoomey's spirit had been the only thing keeping this place going. The windows are all boarded up and the roof is sagging in places. The door is boarded up and paddle locked (Open lock DC of 25 or Strength check of 25 to open).

"Friends, before we proceed, I have a few things..." Berlon places down his backpack and takes out some items. He offers to Vorelle, Zayne, Dietrich and Olyn a plain platinum ring. "These rings are not magical, but they will allow me to aid those who might be defending or healing others." He shows that he is also wearing the same kind of ring, two on each hand.

"I only have so many fingers, so for my OTHER friends..." He pulls from his backpack two flasks filled with clear red liquid and offers one to Rose and Vauhwyt. "Not only will those potions heal you, but they also are especially declicious. That batch was a very good brew week..."

"And for Friend Theodore, something VERY special!" Berlon pulls out a scroll and hands it to Theo. "That is a fireball scroll. I can't read it myself quite yet, so feel free to use it whatever way you see fit. AND..." Berlon pulls out a small leather bag. It seems bursting at the seams, and a bright green substance seems to be trying to burst the bag. Berlon opens the bag and takes a quick sniff. He cringes and turns his nose away, closes the bag then grins wildly. "Perfect!" he says as he gives it to Theo. "I make these! If we ever need to slow something down, throw that in its general vicinity," he beams proudly. He slips his High Woldian symbol around his neck, places his flasks of holy water at the top of his backpack, and straps it back on.

He hears someone mention that there might be undead lurking about. "Not for long, heh heh heh..."

Dietrich helps the Gnome with his stuff and is quite surprised to see the strange fellow putting a half-plate armour on.
"It seems you really have some surprises in your sleaves master Berlon!"

He gladly accepts the flask and later the platinum ring.

When they come to Twoomeys place, the warrior takes particular attention to his surroundings (spot 24, natural 1) and is very tempted to unbind and ready his weapons. But he'll wait to do that when they get inside. Meanwhile goes a silent prayer for Domi and Gargul to release his nervousness a little.

Though he could try to smash the door, Dietrich would prefer to have some of his more dexterous friends taking care of the lock and he waits.

Zayme makes it to Old Twoomey's place just as the rest of the group gets there,"when asked about what his idea was he replies,"I will fill you in later."

Although he is rushing he makes it a point to be aware of his surroundings.(Listen 25 Spot 17) As he arrives he looks at the ring, raises one eyebrow and then tells the gnome,"I know you mean well, but here in Dirt City when things are close to getting hairy,we don't hand out jewelery." As he turns the ring over and over in his hands to look at it.

Moving on to the the matters at hand,"I think with a little help opening a lock or two Vorelle and I should be able to slip in virtually unnoticed." Looking at Vorelle, and nodding to her.

As he casually thinks to himself,"I should buy her a gift for her being crazy or brave enough to always be willing to go along with my hairbrained schemes." He smiles and his fellow ranger and laughs a little,"When we get inside you cove rthe left half or the room and I'll take the right."

Vorelle frowns, trying to approach this thing logically. Billy and Timmi got in, and obviously didn't unlock the gate and then lock it up behind them. They must have found another way in--and any space they could wiggle through, Rose could get through, too. It would just be a matter of finding it.

She takes her time looking over the front of the building, trying to see another way in. [Take 10 on a Search for a net result of 17.]

When Berlon hands her a ring, she looks at is as if she expects it to bite her. It fits rather better than her Wolf ring, but she's not about to give some strange wizard power over her. She slips the ring into her pouch, next to the Wolf ring.

Theodore and Macaw  d20+2=7
Tuesday December 14th, 2004 8:18:06 PM

"Oh boy!!" Theodore exclaims. "Thanks, Berlon!" He sounds just like a kid in a candy store as his eyes grow in his head, eyebrows disappearing into the mop on his head.

He stashes the scroll and tanglefoot bag in his backpack as the others begin to search about the house. He even adds his insignificant abilities to the search for another way in. Unfortunately, his mind keeps wandering back to the gifts that he received and he isn't able to focus on the task at hand.

After looking around the building you find that everything is boarded up tight. You can't figure out how those kids got in.

You note nothing else of interest on the outside of the house. The front of the house looks as if to beckon. Asking you to open it up and discover its hidden secrets.

Berlon gives out all of his party gifts and suits up. As does everyone else in preparation for waht? You do not know, but from the feeling you are getting it can not be good.

Vauhwyt is happy to go with Zayne on his errand.

At the building, Vauhwyt says, "Well, we need to get in. If there is a lock, let's try to pick it. If not, let's break in."

Mookie says, "Good idea, Boos! Just knock on the door."

Dietrich waits for the 'burglar' friends to open the lock.

## If they don't manage it, he will try to break the door with brute force (strength test 17) and perhaps some help from Vauhwyt. If this isn't enough, Dietrich asks somebody to lend him a massive weapon, like a morningstar, and he'll try to destroy the lock (hits ac 23, damage 11)

In any case, he unbinds his weapons and get them ready for combat.

Finaly, proudly assuming his new role as combat leader, he suggests the following basic procedure for the case they meet opposition:

1.Rose and Theo keeps in the centre, using magic, dards etc.
2.Second circle with ballistic weapons: Archers Vorelle, Zayne, Dietrich; Crossbows Olyn, Berlon; Vauhwyt (waits for hth)
3.When the enemy comes closer, Vorelle, Zayne, Dietrich and Vauhwyt make combined assaults (covering each other and possibly flanking the enemies) or keep close defensive formation, while Olyn and Berlon keep using magic, protecting the fragile centre and healing people in the front line. If necessary the clerics come to close combat too.

4.Nobody leaves formation and/or charges before the enemy received some volleys of missile fire and before the command "Charge" is issued.

5. If the group comes under heavy fire (fire balls, superior missile fire etc.) everybody goes for cover! If there is no cover, the heavy armoured Olyn, Berlon and Dietrich provide some.

OCC: I would like to apologize for the lack of consistent posting on my part this week. A lot of stuff on my plate. I am going to try to get into the habit of posting at 0400 my time once again starting next week.

Rose, you are able to open the lock and door with no problem. The lock actually sprung much easier than its appearance would have suggested. After the lock is removed and your hand touches the doorknob you notice a puff of dust from the bottom of the door and then, as quickly as it happened, it is sucked back under the door.

Vorelle, you think you hear something emanate from the house, but you aren't quite sure if it is something in the house or the house itself. It sounded like a sigh of relief. As if something that has been waiting to happen is about to.

At the same moment that Rose sees the dust the rest of you hear a sound riding on a breeze that is as faint as a baby's breath. On that breeze you think you hear the tortured cries of a child...

As the door opens there is no sound and the darkness seems to close in on the party and dim the torches. It is as if time has stopped for a moment to allow all to be taken in. The silence is interrupted for only a second as the door reaches the end of its swing and lightly taps the wall.

The flickering of the torches causes shadows to dance and play through the room in front of you. The room is chaotic with furniture overturned and broken glass on the floor. The room your torchlight is spilling into is roughly 20 ft x 20 ft. There are three doors in the back wall each equidistant from one another.

Vauhwyt sees that it is dim. "Mookie, take out your flame ring," she says.

"Oh, yeah, Boss," says Mookie. "I forgot I had it."

The bird removes a small ceramic ring from a cunning little pouch secured to his breast. It has Continual Flame cast on it.

Vauhwyt thinks out loud, "When it is time to go deeperr, I think I'll cast a Bloodlight to fly ahead of us and light the way." (Bloodlight is what Vauhwyt calls her Dancing Lights cantrip).

The liontaur asks Rose, "Rose, do you want to look for traps before we cross the portal? And you might check the doors, too?"

She will enter after Rose gives the all-clear.

It seems that time stands still while Rose does her checks. You feel so exposed just standing in front of the building. That coupled with the fact that you have drawn weapons in an area that is supposed to be double bound. But, the risk is worth it.... Or is it?

Everyone notices a smell of wet dirt and decay waft from the house.

Rose, as you enter the room it takes you a minute to let your eyes adjust. The room is even more ransacked than you had originally seem from outside. The floor is even torn up in places. Furniture has been gutted, books have been shredded. Whoever came in here was seriously looking for something and they didn't care what condition they left the place.

You try to not disturb anything on your way through the front room, but with all of the debris scattered across the room it is difficult to remain quiet. You do not find anything in the front room that looks like a trap.

DM Jamie  d20=9 d12=11 d10=8
Tuesday December 21st, 2004 6:11:48 AM

You have entered a 20 x 20 foot room. There is an old musty smell in here that you would attribute to being closed up, but there is something else... Something vaguely familiar underneath it. It is the smell of something long dead.

The torchlight plays along the walls while you search the room. It makes it difficult to dicern what is there and what is merely a shadow from the torchlight. There are some display cases full of now old pastries and breads. There is broken glass everywhere and all of the furniture that once used to sit, welcoming visitors in, has been smashed.

You feel a faint breeze come from the back of the bakery. There are three doorways on the back wall. The doorway (door #1) to the left has no door on it, from the torchlight it looks as if the floor changes to a type of tile, but that is all you can make out. The doorway in the middle (door #2)has a door and it is slightly ajar. And the door on the right (door #3) is closed.

Since he's so new to the city, Berlon wasn't quite sure what to expect after his new Friends let him accompany them to deal with whatever abomination caused this problem.

"That's it, I've seen enough. Please hold one moment, my friends."

Berlon takes whatever help he can get getting off his backpack then digs out two items: a clear flask and a large satchel. He opens the satchel and starts to spread the entire contents out. Soon, a large portion of the room has been dusted with silver. He then pours out the vial while chanting the words to cast Consecrate.

One to the left, one in the middle, and one to the right. The doorway to the left is open. The doorway in the middle is ajar and the door on the right is closed. You all feel a calming effect as Berlon casts his spell.

Vorelle begins to inch towards door number 1. As you get closer you see that the room continues back 10 feet and to the left about 20 feet. There are counter tops and pots and pans, looks like it was the kitchen. There are dishes, utensils, and dry goods strewn about the floor.

You can hear something shuffling through the room although it is out of your line of sight. As you turn to notify the party of what you have heard something leaps from the shadows of the kitchen. Vorelle I need a reflex save DC 15 to spring out of the way Otherwise the creature will collide with you and knock you back towards the group for 1 point of damage.

Everyone else sees something horrible jump from the kitchen. This foul creature appears more or less humanoid, but has mottled, decaying flesh drawn tight across clearly visible bones. It is mostly hairless and has a carnivore's sharp teeth. It's eyes burn like hot coals in their sunken sockets. A spot check DC 16 means you notice there is a ring on its finger

I need a fortitude save DC 15 against the stench coming off of the creature. If you fail you will be sickened. A sickened character takes a -2 penalty on all attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks.

Vauhwyt is not detered by the stench (save 21), but Mookie is! (save 13) "Bleh! Bleh!" he caws.

But not deterred, both of them put their newly improved Tumble skills to good work. Mookie enters the undead's square (he is tiny so he has zero reach), making his Tumble check (16) so that he does not provoke an attack of opportunity. Then he tries to distract it so that his master can strike hard. (hits AC14 to Aid Another, even with the -2 penalty)

Vauhwyt tumbles around the monster so that she is on the other side from Vorelle. She does this out of reflex, not remembering that Undead are immune to sneak attacks. Still, the +2 flanking bonus is nice. Add that to the +2 Aid Another bonus from Mookie, and Vauhwyt's masterwork spear is at +7 to hit. But that does not matter! Her natural 1 fails badly!

"Boss!" Mookie caws, as she stumbles over her own weapon.

"Yeah, I know!" Vauhwyt replies. "D'oh!" She is too befuddled by her own mishaps to note the ring (Spot 11).

Vorelle hits the creature as it runs past her back into the kitchen (AC 17).

As everyone charges after the undead with Vauhwyt and Mookie in the lead torchlight spills into the kitchen (door 1). There is alot of flour in the air from all of the movement. The creature is cowering in the back corner of the kitchen.

Vauhwyt attempts to pierce the side of the creature and instead hits the wall. Mookie has no problem tumbling into a good position on the other side of the creature.

The room goes back about 12 feet and to the left about 20 feet. There are three stoves/ovens across the back wall. The wall you just came through has countertop space running the length.

Okay, for those of you directly attacking the creature. You are located at the back of the room. As far as I know this includes Vauhwyt and Mookie and Theodor and Macaw. I know that Deitrich, Olyn, Berlon, and Vorelle are located at various positions throughout the room. Since Rose and Zayne have not posted I am placing them just outside of the kitchen still in the main room.

This is what happens. Everyone has moved ino position and all is looking good. Theodore cast burning hands through the wand at the creature and then all hell breaks loose.

I need everyone in the room to make a reflex save DC 18 for half damage from a fireball. If you fail you take 12 points of damage.

After the smoke clears and everyone picks themselves up off the floor you see the smoldering remain of the creature laying on the ground in front of you. All around you there is scorcing along the walls. The one window in the kitchen has been blown out (window and boards). There are some small fires, but nothing you can not walk up and stamp out with your foot.

As the smoke and the dust settles everyone pulls themselves up off of the floor. After a few minutes to get your bearings the dizziness is gone. Left , though, are the questions as to what happened.

The creature has crumpled in the corner of the room and is no longer undead. He is now fully dead. His charred reamins still give off a atench, but it is not bad enough for you to become sick over.

There is a cool breeze blowing through the room now becasue of the missing window. Soon the charred smells of the kitchen are gone.

A close inspection of the creature tells you that this is not the same creatuire that left the bite marks on poor Billie. Your thoughts return to him sitting in that temple with his skin slightly grey from infection. Shivering from night sweats while his father stands vigil over him trying to keep the terrible thoughts running through his mind at bay.

The ring you pull off of the monster appears to be made of white gold and exquisitely beautiful in its simplicity. There are some markings on the inside of the band.

After everyone is healed up you leave the kitchen and walk back into the main room. You still have two doors to check along the north wall. Both of the doors along the north door are now closed. There are some remains of the explosion in this room. There are cracks running down the walls and anything that would have been hanging on the walls has fallen down. I want a spot check for anyone looking at the main room again

Olyn, after concentrating you find that all of the actual undead auras are gone within your range. You do, however, detect a strong lingering aura in the next room over from the kitchen (door #2).

Vauhwyt, you can barely make out the child screaming and then it goes silent. You think it came from one of the doors, but you can't be sure.

Dietrich, don't hear anything, but it smells like damp soil under the door and there is a faint breeze coming from under the door.

Dietrich is worried that the undead behind door #2 seems to have disappered. This must mean there is an escape.

Nevertheless, Dietrich suggests to proceed with caution and he wants to know more about the ring. The warrior suspects it has something to do with the group being blasted by the fireball and Dietrich really wants to avoid something similar.

Also, as the undead seemed to have perceived Vorelle in some unnatural way, the fighter suggests not to have the scouts reconoitre the area before the group moves, but to keep everybody together.

So here goes the proposed formation:

Berlon tries to read the writing on the back of the picture (he knows Common, Gnomish and Elven.) In the unlikely event someone put magical writing on the back of the picture (ooc: seriously, who throws a shoe? btw, Anything on my listen check Jamie?) he has Read Magic prepared, and if he has to cast it, it lasts 30 minutes. He'll only cast it if no one can read the writing.

"Hmmm..." muses Theodore over the ring. "It appears to be a ring of healing, of some sorts. Of course, I won't know for sure until I can test it further. And there is no sense in fooling with something you are unsure of." He gives a meaningful glance in Vauhwyt's direction, the scroll debacle at Blackbird lake coming to mind. He slips the ring into his belt pouch.

"I also have access to the spell, Berlon," says the mage in response to his gnome friend. "The component to such a spell is costly. Do you have access to that?"

If Berlon has trouble with the message on the back of the painting, Theodore asks if he could take a glance, and studies the writing with shrewd eyes.

Rose, when you searched the main room earlier you found a hollow statuary that had been knocked over. Inside of the statuary you found a ruby in the shape of a skull about the size of a half-orcs fist.

Vorelle, you hear breaking glass coming from the kitchen area. Upon closer inspection and the fact that you all now have an exterior spie you know that the explosion earlier has attracted some investigators. Mostly just normal folk, but there are a few guards from a few of the houses present.

I want an arcane knowledge check DC 17 to know what the language is on the back of the painting.

Vauhwyt, when you enter the bathroom the temperature drops. It feels a full 10 degrees colder in here compared to the main room. The smell of moist soil fills your senses. It is as if the smell has permeated the very being of the room. There is a washtub against the back wall and a bookshelf lining the wall to the left. Some of the titles include: Recepies of the Giggleing Ghost, Cooking with Gargul, and Things to do in Dirt City when your dead.Along the right wall is a linen closet.

During your search you find that there is a hollow spot under the floor, but you don't see any way to find out what is under the floor.

When she returns the question about the fireball, the warrior looks in expectation to his arcane friends, as his speculation about the ring was wrong.

Then he says:

"Friends, if there is another exit in this freezing and stinking bathroom, WAIT. Let's first clear door #3 in order to avoid any surprises in our back."

and gets ready to investigate the next door.

He doen't like that they have called the attention of outsiders, but just hopes their good conections with the Prince will keep them out of trouble.

Theodore, as you look at the painting you see that the script is High Woldian. You can make out the symbol for Gargul, but the others are alien to you. Not many people have ever seen this language.

When Vauhwyt removes the books from the shelf a panel in the floor drops and slides out of the way. The smell of death and decay rushes up through the floor in a gust of wind.

Most of the spectators leave the area once they see that there are some of the city's elite inside.

No other attempts at reading the writing are sucessful.

Olyn, as you walk up to the hole you see it is about a 20 foot drop through a hole no bigger than the shoulder-width of a human. You throw your torch down and see that the hole opens up into a larger room, but that is all you see.

Rose does not find anything more than was previously listed in the thrid room which turned out to be a bedroom/living room.

Everyone congregates in the bathroom around the hole. The hole looks to go about 30 feet down and upon closer inspection you can see the hole widens up after about 5 feet. The torch Olyn threw is sitting at the bottom in what appears to be a larger room, but from this distance you can not tell how big it is.

If you make a spot check DC 20 you can tell that something moves away from the torch light.

As Olyn lowers himself down the rope their is an overwhelming sense of dread bearing down upon the group. What will the future bring us? Where does this hole lead? Is their some underground temple waiting for us?

Olyn, as you approach the bottom you can tell that the temperature drops. It is not unpleasent yet, but it is definitely about 10 degrees lower than above. You went down roughly 30 feet and the bottom of the hole opens into a room about 30 foot in diameter. You have to swing to the side a bit to miss your torch, but you are successful.

The room appears to have been hewn out of the rock. As your eyes adjust to their new setting you can see a glow emanating from the walls.

If everyone comes down after the all clear from Olyn you have no problem climbing down the rope.

Everyone makes it down the rope without incident. It is cold down here. Not enough to be uncomfortable, but there is definetely a chill in the air and their is a breeze coming from the opening in the south.

The walls all have a glow to them and upon futher inspection you find that it is a plant growing on the walls that provides the light. It is bright enough for the humans to see, but only at half their normal vision if they choose to go without torches

And for those of you that might have missed it before... You all hear the torchered screams of a child. Then you hear something like the crack of a whip... You no longer hear the child, but you can hear a shuffling from down the passage.

As Berlon holds his holy symbol high and casts out the undead a wave of holy goodness extends out from him. The wave fills the tunnel and radiates out as if it were a fireplace heating a cold house in the morning. Everyone can tell that, for the time being, all of the jittery feelings that had gotten comming down into this hole have been dispelled.

The undead only look up for a moment before turning to flee from the party. They were about 20 - 30 feet away when Berlon turned.

Dietrich's arrow has no problem finding it's mark (AC of the undead is 11) in the back of the creatures neck.

Vorelle strikes the same one and there is another arrow sticking out of it's back.

With the arrival of a challenge that the party can seem to overcome all thoughts of the dread that has fallen upon the city and, to some extent, the group are forgotten.

The tunnel is starting to widen up and you can see that there is a glow comming from farther down the tunnel past the undead.

Berlon makes a silent, satisfied smile after turning the undead. Berlon will take a shot at the injured one with his crossbow. After that he will drop the crossbow at his feet, draw his mace and shield for the following rounds.

Berlon fires his crossbow (range 120') and hits AC 11 for 9 damage.

Dietrich
Thursday January 20th, 2005 2:18:02 PM

Dietrich is almost disappointed as all four undead turn to flee, though he grunts satisfied at the sight of holy power and his own shot.

Nodding in approvement to Olyn's and Vorelle's fire action, the warrior keeps his greatsword ready to intercept any burning monsters possibly running at the party.

"Continue fire! Hold your places and don't waste magic or holy water yet."

OOC: Hi Berlon, I counted the ac bonus, but good to remember the save bonus. Also forgot to add the bless bonus...

Vorelle looks from her arrow to the torch in helpless confusion. The steel arrowhead won't burn, and if she lights the wooden shaft, she will burn her hands and possibly her bow. She opens her mouth to tell Olyn that flaming arrows need some advance preparation time, then decides she'll never get the words out in time.

Instead, she simply sights and fires again. It's a terrible shot that flies wide of its target.

Olyn and Berlon each find marks with their missile weapons. Berlon attacks the one that has been hit already and it drops t the ground. Olyn hits one of the undead at the front and soaks it with oil. There is some splatter onto the other two remaining undead.

Rose, as you follow the undead (ahead of the rest of the group), you begin to see that the tunnel is widening out into a room up ahead. The room looks imense. From the bend in the tunnelapproaching the room you can't make out a whole lot, but you know that you can see shadows moving. The shadow are being created by a light coming from the other side of the room (where you can not see). You also feel great evel coming from the room. You may not be learned in the holy ways of a cleric, but you know evil...

As you are sitting there listening you hear some people talking about their dark queen. You also hear a child crying softly.

pointing at the one soaked, he says: can you put this arrow into that creature?

Dietrich
Friday January 21st, 2005 3:06:03 PM

Dietrich sheaths his sword and takes the longbow again. It's a pity some of the undead could flee and he shares Theo's worry about the lost of any surprise element, but then it probably was lost with the fireball before and anyway if the monsters get away.

The warrior sighs when Rose follows the undead on her own, worrying about her safety, and suggests the group moves after her, keeping some distance in order not to call attention to her.

He also begs Vorelle to follow the Halfling and protect her if necessary.

"By DOmi, let's finish this business!"

As Rose continues to sneak, inching ever closer to the room, the rest of the group catches up to her.

Everyone is now creeping toward the entrance to the room. Everyone can hear talk of a dark queen and sacrifice. From time to time you can hear the sobs of a child.

You hear a voice yell, "What are you three back for?" "Intruders?" "The rest of you go... I will deal with the girl and with our visitors."

There is some shuffleing comming from the room and then a great burst of cold air comes from the room through the door. This air chills you to your very core. It is not a natural cold, but in a way it beckons to you to curl up and just enter a sleep that you would never wake up from. It is almost, for lack of a better word, seductive.

You can tell their is undead and great evil right around the corner. You can feel it without even having to cast any spells.

Vauhwyt listens carefully to Dietrich, but she is a little confused when he refers to himself as "D."

"Is he talking about himself?" she whispers to Mookie.

"Got me, Boss," the raven answers, "but don't worry about it! Attack!"

"Right!"

Vauhwyt moves forward, looking for an enemy. If she can get to one in 40 feet, she will move and attack. If she has a straight line within 40 to 80 feet, she will charge.

If she cannot engage an enemy, then she moves up to 40 feet and sets her spear for an attack.

In any event, with her reach weapon, she does not get closer than ten feet from the enemy. That way she gets an AoO as the enemy closes, maybe.

If possible, Mookie uses an Aid Another action to help distract the enemy and help Vauhwyt hit.

Mookie's Aid Another roll: 17.

Vauhwyt's attack: hits AC17 (AC15 without the Aid Another, optional +2 if charging? might hit AC19)

Scene 5 - The Cavern

DM Jamie
Tuesday January 25th, 2005 5:44:16 AM

I need will save of 12 to enter the cavern. There's a sense of dread here. The walls seem to crawl with nightmares.

This looks like a natural cavern, bored out of the rock by an underground river. There's no sign of the river now, it's dried up and has been for ages.

Cavern is approximately 30ft high, and roughly circular, maybe 120 ft.

At the far end, something shimmers.

There is a pedistal or dias located to the left of the cavern opening. On the far side of the cavern you can see a pale grey humanoid with an elongated head. To his right three is a small child, no more that 8 or 9, laying on the ground. The childs clothes have ben torn and you can see a small pool of blood on the ground by the child.

"Welcome to my humble abode," chimes the humanoid. "My name is or at least Atimis long ago. Why have you come here?"

There seems to be no one else in the cavern.

I have placed a map in an online directory of mine. It can be located at http://f1.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/jamieharwick@sbcglobal.net it is located in the "Role Playing" folder.

"Release the child," he yells at the monster. "And tell us why you are here." The young mage points the rod in his left hand at the creature in a menacing manner.

Theodore is not so completely taken with anger to forget the situation at hand. The magic device against the wall serves as a point of interest and he quickly gleans all he can from the distance that he is.

I have updates the map with locations of players.

With Dietrich and Vorelle staying behind the rest of the group charges into the cavern. (The will save will drop by 2 points each round you try it. So the next save is 10)

(OCC: Your previous missile fire hit nothing, sorry)

Berlon enters and sets up in a position just to the left of the door and waits for the rest of the group to see what they will do. It seems odd that he would be here waiting fo everyone and not have more guards.

Theodor rushes into the room. You can seethe device from this distance. It is a black obelisk adorned with jewels with an eye of Gargul carved into the side. The eye is where the projection is emanating from. Something appears to be wrong with the eye...

As for your questioning of the creature he bellows back, "The child is an integral part of my plans and I will not just release her. I am here as a scout for my dark queen." Then his mood appears to turn angry. "Our contact here was the Baker, but somehow he was found out and executed by the prince."

Vauhwyt, you go the farthest into the room. You are completely focused on the creature. As you get closer you see that it has a mouth full of teeth. It is a smoky shade of grey that seems to continue to move even though he is standing completely still. And the most fearsome thing is his eyes. It is like looking straight into the abyss. Even from this distance when he looks at you it feels like he is trying to cut your soul from your body.

The creature merely stands and appears to wait. If it had the facial features for it you would think he is smiling at you, but all you get are a bunch of teeth.

Also, you all now notice that Zayne is no longer with you.

[OOC: Since the room is 120 feet in diameter, and since Vauhwyt moved 40 last turn, another 80 (or less, with her 10 foot reach) should get her to the enemy. Right?]

Mookie flies -- and all he does is move this round -- up, over the beam, and to the far side of the enemy, being careful not to get in reach of an attak of opportunity. He ends the round on the far side of it.

Vauhwyt charges! She leaps over the beam (or at least tries her best to avoid it) -- Jump 21 to do so if needed.

As soon as she is in 10 feet of the enemy, she grabs it! She does her best to wrestle it to the ground.

[Normally initiating a grapple provokes an attack of opportunity -- but since Vauhwyt starts her attack ten feet from the opponent, I'm hoping he can't reach her to take the AoO she provokes.]

[With Mookie flanking on the far side, and with Olyn's bless, plus her +3 Str, +1 BAB, and -2 size penalty for being huge, her modifier for the touch attack to grab it and start the grapple is +5. Her touch attack hits AC23 to start the grapple!]

[Her grapple check, assuming this thing is medium in size, is BAB +1, Str +3, and size +8, for a +12 grapple modifier. Her grapple check is 29! Unless the foe can beat that with an opposed grapple check, he is grappled! If he is grappled (and I hope he is), then he takes 6 hp lethal damage (due to Improved Unarmed Strike feat plus +2 Taur charge damage bonus). Woot!]

I will have an updated map available tonite. Has everyone been able to locate and view the map?

Just to clear it up for a few of you, the creature is on the other side of the room and it is some type of statue on the dias to the left of the entrance.

Olyn, you make your way into the room. Without even having to get within the obligatory 60 foot radius you know that he is an undead.

Vauhwyt, you do not make it over the beam, but when ou are in it's light you feel different, it's odd, but you feel nothing. As soon as you are past it the feeling is gone. I need a Fortitude save DC 13 as you close with the creature as he turns to you and says, "Die". if you save then you will have him grappled.

Creatures AC is 20, 12 touch, and 18 flat footed

Dietrich, you find that their are no other creatures in the room. Although, you do see movement through the gate projection on the wall.

Vorelle, you close in on the child and will make it their in the next round. You see that it is a human female. She looks to be about 7 years old. Her clothes are tattered and torn. She has blood running down her back from whip marks. You can see her shudder from time to time.

Theodore, when the staff lands on the dias the projection on the wall disappears, but only for a moment. The darkness seems to be absorbed into the oblisk. You do notice that as the projection momentarily disappeared that the creature seemed startled.

Olyn, the girl is breathing shallow. You get sanctuary off without a hitch. As you complete the spell the creature looks at you and you see what little color was in his face fade away. He must have missed you while he was dealing with Vauhwyt. "Get away from her," He screams. "You will ruin everything." He runs at you to attack. Hits AC 6 so he misses.

There is a flash of light as Vorelle hits the artifact and all are drawn to looking through the gate. It is a land beyond anyones imagination. Immediately outside the gate is a flat expanse of land about 100 feet in diameter. After that it looks as if there is a great chasm. On the other side of the chasm, which looks to have only one rope bridge covering the distance, are rivers of a mercury looking substance (For those of you that know about WoldsBlood that is what this is) that cascade overhe far side of that chasm. Every once in a while a cloud of vapor can be seen billowing up from the bottom of he chasm as the liquid thunders over. Just off to the side of the portal can be seen the undead that you chased of along with some Orcs. They seem to be in battle with a humanoid wearing shining full plate armor. He looks to be winning.

Then off in the distance you can see a group of creatures coming towards the ope bridge. They seme to have about 10 minutes to go before they get there.

Theodore, the undead takes your missiles in stride.

Dietrich, you are now behind the creature as he is closed with Olyn.

Vorelle, when you close with the artifact you see that it is encrusted with jewels and other precious stones. On the face of the artifact projecting the portal there is an eye of Gargul, but it has been desicrated with blood and entrails. It has also been marred with some type of scrapings.

Cayzle, I had a crash and lost my addresses along with some other data. Can you email me and I will send you what is going on in your head? Thanks.

Berlon will make a move action and attempt to get into flanking position with Dietrich (first option) or Olyn, then make an attack with his mace.

He swings his heavy mace at the foul creature but misses (hits AC 13 w/o flanking bonus, AC 15 if he can flank, if I am able to flank w/ either Dietrich or Olyn they also get +2 to hit as well.)

If Berlon can't get into flanking position with a move action, he will run towards a flanking position, moving 45'.

As the sceen unfolds...

Dietrich, you get a good connection with the creature as you feel your blade cut into flesh. The creature seems to stagger a bit and almost go down to one knee.

Berlon makes it into position and asists Olyn and Dietrich with keeping the creature at bay.

Vorelle, as you watch you see the lone figure in shining armor battle the few orcs and ndead remaining on this side of the rope bridge. Nearing the bridgeis the new hoard of orcs and gobblins.

Theodore, this is some type of device to open gates between realms. It is very old and you can feel the power course off of it. The desecration of the eye of gargul is unfortunate, but can possibly be repaired. It looks as if this particular artifact opens a gate to the shadowlands. There loks to be some type of skull indention located on the top of the device.

Olyn, the creature swings at you. And once again misses horribly. He screams in frustration. The girls is starting to breath normally as she stabilizes and heals.

Rose you will make it there this round and get into position, but you will be unable to attack until next post.

I will hve an updated map tonite. Essentially the only two people that have moved are Vorelle and Rose. Rose is now over with Olyn getting ready to attack the creature and Vorelle is watching the gate.

OCC: Cayzle I am having such a hard time with my computer I am just going to post it here.

Vauhwyt, You pick yourself up off the ground and dust yourself off. s you look around everything seems fuzzy, like you are looking at everything after you have drank one to many green gnomishes. There are three things that are clear though. You see your body at your feet, you see the creature looking at you, and you see the gate. You also see everything else going on, but like I said it is fuzzy. You see Mookie kneeling over your body. You see the rest of the part engaged with a fuzzy version of the creature staring at you. You seem to be in some sort of battle of wills. You have the feeling that the longer you are here the harder it will be for you to win.

Then something happens. You can make out one of the party members strike the fuzzy version of the creature. At that moment the clear version seems to waver and turn his head to see what happened. You feel the hold the creature had loosen on your soul.

Will save DC 11 to break free of the hold and return to your body

Things appear to be going downhill for the creature fast. He looks a little panicey.

Olyn, with your positive energy you are able to deal the blow to drive him over the edge of insanity. He howles at the pain of the healing touch and turns to flee. He runs straight for the gate. The path he takes to get him to the gate will give everyone but theodore an attack of opportunity.

Theodore, your spel goes of as planned and the rope bridge is now covered in web. That should slow down the horde of Goblins and Orc when they get to the bridge.

Vorelle, as you are watching you see a web appear on the rope bridge. You also see the humanoid in armor strike down he last mummy. As he does he turns towards the hoard and appears to just wait. As you watch you any wounds that were covering his body heal up and disappear. As for what is going on on this side of the gate, you hear a scream and when you turn to look you see the creature that the party has been battling running away from the party towards the gate. It will take him past you.

If the creature is tripped or grappled or otherwise not running away, Berlon will pull a scroll of Cure Moderate Wounds from his cloak (move action) and use it on the creature (standard action).

For those of you tending to the girl, her wounds are all healed, but she is still unconscious. She does have significant scarring across her back and around her wrists and ankles. Her hair is matted with dried blood and dirt. Her skin is very pale from a combination of malnourishment and lack of sun. She looks to be maybe 6 or 7.

Dietrich, you have no problem lopping off the head. When you do, however, the body starts to dissolve into an icky black mass.

Berlon, when you begin to clear off the artifact you can feel the power emanating off of it. It looks as if at one point in time this might have been a holy place, but not anymore. The artifact has been damaged extensively upon close inspection. It will only be a matter of time until it no longer functions properly, but then you ask yourself what is proper function for an artifact?

Rose, upon close inspection of the device you see that it is old and powerful. It is difficult to make out any of the writing anymore. Someone went through a lot of trouble to make sure no one would know anything about this device. Everything but the eye of Gargul, which is projecting the gate, has been scratched out somehow. You also notice that there is a hole located on the artifact that looks like the outline of a small skull.

Those of you standing at the gate. The scene unfolds... As the pack of goblins and orcs gets to the bridge they are unable to cross because of the web that has been cast there. They begin to line their edge of the crevasse. It looks like there are about 20 of them.

When Vauhwyt yells the warrior turns, a bit startled, and looks at the group. Vauhwyt, his is what you hear, {Highlight to display spoiler: { "I was once a great paladin of Alemi from the Wold. I became trapped in a pocket realm when I gave my life to save my friends from death. When that pocket real collapsed I was thrust into the shadow lands. I am never able to return to the Wold because of the changes I experienced in the pocket realm. So I vowed to protect the Wold from attacks by other pocket realms that still exist. A new threat has emerged, Marteus has created a new pocket realm and they have now found a way to bridge the gap to the Wold. That is where these creatures are from. You have to destroy the artifact in order to close the gate. I know it won't stop the creature, but it will prolong their crossing and hopefully give the Wold time to prepare. Goodbye noble warrior. I will hold them long enough for you to destroy the gate." You can feel a great sorrow in his heart when he speaks of the Wold, but as he turns from you to face the oncoming hoard you can fee his spirits soar in anticipation of the battle. }} This happen in a flash.

Everyone else sees the warrior turn, look through the portal, and then turn back. The hoard, in the meantime, has pulled out bows and knocked arrows. One of the humanoids, a half-orc from the looks of him, draws his sword and raises it. Then drops it. At that signal all of the other release their arrows and send a volley across the crevasse towards the warrior. They then reload and fire again.

The warrior pulls a large shield from across his back and crouches behind it. As the arrows begin to strike he tilts it slightly upwards and begins to inch towards the bridge. Most of the arrows glance off, but a few of them pierce the shield and it looks as if a few of those pierce his shield bearing arm.

As he approaches the bridge the web begins to dissolve and about half of the hoard drops their bows, draw their swords and makes for the bridge. The remaining continues to fire arrows at the warrior.

As you hack at the artifact yuo can see that you are slowly destroying it. As pieces fly off, sometimes you see the image waver a bit. But it looks as if you still have a ways to go.

And the scene in the gate unfolds...

As the warrior crosses the bridge he is pelted with arrows from the half of the hoard that stayed on the other side of the crevasse. After their second volley he meets with the first of the half that crossed the bridge.

You can almost feel the power of the blows through the portal. You can see the determination in the warriors actions. He will not allow any to cross.

Several of the hoard on the bridge fall back to the ledge and pull their bows in order to help weaken the warrior down.

Then the unthinkable happens, the warrior staggers on the bridge. He has been taking alot of arrows and it looks to be wearing on him. The orc he is directly battling seems to smile as he strikes. His blade diggs deep into the warrior's left shoulder and you can hear the bone crunch.

The warrior is thrown backwards about 10 feet from the orc. He stands and does something unexpected. He throws his sword at the first orc and it pierces him in the chest, sinking all the way to the hilt. He then closes and begins to attack with his hands to keep them from advancing across the bridge.

"Friend Rose is already... attending to the device, and I am virtually out of spells. And if Friend Theodore uses any magic, make sure everyone gets clear first..."

Vorelle is startled when Olyn calls to her. Surely there is somebody else better suited to calling a message across dimensions? Gamely, though, she opens her mouth to try--and can manage nothing but the tiniest squeak that doesn't even carry to her own party members.

Frustrated, she swings her axes at the artifact.

Under the constant barage of attacks the artifact is begining to crack and the gate is flickering more often.

Between flicks you can see the battle taking place on the bridge. The Orcs have begun to swarm over the warrior, but he has not let any of them cross the bridge yet. He gets in a blow here and there and they are always well placed. Then it happens, one of the Orcs picks up a goblin and flings him at the warrior. He was not expecting that and crashes over the edge of the rope bridge. He catches the rope railing on his way over and is now hanging off the side of the bridge while the Orcs begine to cross.

The warrior looks at the gate and you all hear in your minds "You are all braver than you know, smarter than you think, and stronger than you feel. Someday ytou will be great warriors." As he says this he swings his sword across the bridge, cutting it. As the bridge begins to plummet one of the Orcs leaps for the edge of the crevasse and makes it.

As he pulls himself up he looks at the gate and smiles. He begins to walk towards it. Then the gate fizzles out. The artifact has takren as much damage as it can and it collapses into a pile of rock and jewels.

Olyn
Wednesday February 9th, 2005 9:30:56 AM

dropping to his knees, and bowing his head, Olyn begins praying for the fallen warrior.

after a few minutes of this, he gets up, returns to Berlon and takes the child back in his arms like a loving father would his own child saying: let's go, Now!

Theodore and Macaw
Wednesday February 9th, 2005 9:48:06 AM

Theodore puts a shaking hand to the cold wall where the gate had stood. His head droops. "Another one..." he says softly.

Silently agreeing with Olyn's urging to withdraw, the young wizard clenches his fist and pushes the pain away. Turning to face the group, he concentrates on Macaw, still at the entrance to the house, to make sure everything is clear and there are no surprises.

Dietrich
Wednesday February 9th, 2005 9:52:27 AM

Dietrich accompanies Olyn's pray for the fallen hero and wonders what has actually happened here.

Before the group returns to the temple though, he suggests to have a good search of the room and to make sure nothing dangerous is left behind.

Than the warrior cleans his blade of the foul blood and flesh and sheaths it again, taking the longbow.

"Friends, once this is behind us and the child is safe, I need to seek out a Fixer of Alemi..."

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Wednesday February 9th, 2005 3:27:38 PM

The destruction of the machine and the final thoughts of the brave warrior echo in Vauhwyt's head, and she pauses in silent reflection.

Mookie, on the other hand, has a raven's eyes for the glitter of jewels among the ruins of the device. "Boss! Boss! Lookee here! In fact, look at this place!"

Vauhwyt does just that, looking at the ruins of the device, and then at the vast underground chamber.

She turns to all her friends, and calls for a pow-wow.

"Everybody, can we just talk for a little while? We have to think this all through."

"Recently we've been falling into advantures, and then we blab about them all over town, or at least to the Prince and the Church and the WLA. We're starting to get a reputation, and I'm not sure that's such a good idea."

"Plus look at this place! The space here is incredible. Someone went to a lot of effort to carve this chamber out of rock. maybe we don't want that someone to know it was us that foiled his plans."

"Here is my suggestion. Bring the head of this undead thing to the church so they can cure the boy. Talk with the child herre, gently, to find out what we can. Keep this place a secret. Lock it up, and find out who owns it. Buy the shop above it, maybe, to keep other people out. Place a watch over it to see who tries to enterr."

"This is not the end -- the Paladin of Alemi made that clearr. We can't afford to expose our hand now. We need to act quietly and get more info. We have to find out who in Dirt City is behind this plot. We can't do that if everyone in town knows it was us who interfered in the first place."

"Come on, friends! This is Dirt City! We have to stop stumbling around like babes and act with our heads for a change. We need every edge we can get so that the Paladin's sacrifice will mean something."

"First thing, somebody, maybe Olyn and Vorelle, please tend to the child and talk with her. Rose, maybe you could keep look-out for anyone entering the room above? And the rest of us -- detect magic and search this entire place. Let's take a half hour and really make sure we're not missing anything. How does that sound?"

Vorelle sighs. She wishes people wouldn't keep telling her to talk. She goes willingly over to Olyn and the little girl, though, and takes out her healer's kit. She stands ready to assist Olyn with whatever he may need to do.

The Race to the Temple

DM Jamie
Thursday February 10th, 2005 9:15:06 AM

Olyn, the child looks to be in a deep sleep now. Although she is still not waking she looks much better.

Theodore, as you concentrate on Macaw you see one of the emple priests outside of the house. He is yelling into the house for you to hurry. The child has taken a turn for the worse suddenly. When you place your hand on the wall it is not cold.

Rose you pick up 8 assorted jewels. While you are picking them up you notice there seem to be some drag marks on the floor that someone tried to cover hastily. They head in the direction of where the gate used to be projected.

Vorelle, you come to the same conclusion as Olyn. That the girl is in a depe sleep.

Theodore and Macaw
Thursday February 10th, 2005 9:18:25 AM

Theodore turns abruptly to the rest of the group. "The child has taken a turn for the worse," he says loudly. "We must leave now, and return if necessary. The way ahead is clear."

Theodore begins to hustle back to the point where his group descended into the cave.

Dietrich
Thursday February 10th, 2005 10:38:19 AM

Dietrich listens to Vauhwyt and agrees with some points, but there is the urge to get to the temple.

He suggests to split the group and keep some people as guards in the cave till all can come back (as there doesn't seem to be any great danger in splitting the group now). Olyn, the child, Theo, Vorelle could go, while the rest search the place thoroughly. By the way, Zayne suddenly disappeared, which is not very normal either.

But there is also another problem. The party has been seen entering the house by a lot of people and won't be able to keep many secrets from the temple anyway. Dietrich also believes that the Prince will ask them pretty soon about this adventure and he doesn't think it a good idea to try keeping secrets from the Prince too.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Thursday February 10th, 2005 12:31:14 PM

Vauhwyt agrees with Dietrich. Split the party, send the undead head and the girl with Olyn, Vorelle, and Theo to the temple.

The rest can search and guard the place. Olyn, Vorelle, and Theo can return as soon as possible.

"Yes, alas, the cat is way way out of the bag," says Vauhwyt. "But the kitten is still in the bag, and we can keep it therre."

"We have to say that we were herre. We have to say that we killed this undead thing. But we do not have to talk about this machine, or the Paladin, or the Gate. Not just yet. We should keep those cards close to our chest. That way we can investigate furtherr. Okay?"

"Olyn, Theo, and Vorelle, please don't tell the temple about the machine. We came doen here, killed some undead, and here is the boss undead's head to heal the boy. That's it."

"Theo, why don't we trade familairs? You take mine and I'll take yours. So if there is trouble in either group, the other group can have a warning."

Olyn

Berlon [S.O Dietrich (1h 35 m), Detect Magic (3m) fire res 2]
Thursday February 10th, 2005 5:15:41 PM

Berlon still seems a little frazzled over the recent events, but tries to remain focused. He closes his eyes and clasps his hands together, casting Detect Magic (duration 3 minutes) trying to see if there's anything else magical in the area.

If time allows, he'll help do a last, thorough check of the room, taking a 20 on a Search check if time allows.

"Friends, we should make sure to do a final check of the bakery as well..."

DM Jamie
Friday February 11th, 2005 9:43:57 AM

sorry for the late post today

Olyn, Theo, and Vorelle as you emerge from the hole into the bakery everything seems just as you left it. There are a few looky-loos loitering outside of the bakery, but other than that there is nothing. You make it to the temple with little notice. As you step into the temple the girl snaps straight out of her slumber, looks around, and in a meek voice says, "Am I going to get beat today?" As she finishes she trembles a bit and a single tear rolls down her cheek.

The rest of you do a very complete search of the cave, tunnel, and bakery. You find that at one point in time something else was positioned on top of the dias, but has since been removed and dragged towards where the portal was. The drag marks stop there. On the verticle face of the dias there was once writing, but someone or something has gone and removed alot of it.

When detect magic is cast you find that there is a spot on the dias that faintly glows. In the center of it there is a rectangle shape roughly 3 foot wide and 6 foot long. It is residual magic from whatever used to sit upon it. You also have a faint glow on the wall where the gate used to be projected. You can not make out the type of magic.

Dietrich
Friday February 11th, 2005 10:05:38 AM

Dietrich agrees with VAuhwyt's allegorie of cats and kittens and helps in the search.

The warrior can't make very much of the findings though and will wait for his religious and arcane friends to share their wisdom.

He hopes both children can be cured and frowns at the evil they have been fighting.
Not only were there a connection between Marteus and Gaal, now there is also a distorted Undead cult in it. The group definitely needs to discuss what to do.

Berlon  d20+12=17
Friday February 11th, 2005 12:44:13 PM

Once it seems everything has been resolved, Berlon uses up the last of his spells for the day, spontaneously casting Cure Minor Wounds in place of Read Magic, healing 1 hp on Dietrich.

"If anyone else needs healing, I will be more than happy to do so tomorrow. All Friends are always welcome at my lab. Also, can someone remind Friend Theo that I can Identify that ring for him without any of those expensive spell components."

Once he gets back to his lab, Berlon will get some last work in before some well earned sleep. First, he will use up 3 gp and 33 cp worth of ingredients to whip up an easy and quick (for him, anyway) flask of acid. (Carft Alchemy check 17 vs DC 15, progress = 255 out of 100 sp, item complete)

He will also take one of the bags of powdered silver he keeps at the lab and put it in his backpack.

sitting down on a pew, with her on his lap, he wipes the tear from her cheek and says: you are safe little one. the bad bad person who hurt you has been punished and I promise that no more hurt will come to you.

this nice girl is going to take you to the healer, and make the sting on your back go away, she is also going to bathe you and get you some nice clean clothes and something to eat. maybe some sweetcakes too.

if she goes with the acolyte, Olyn will wave at her til she is out of sight, then head to the young boy to see how the other healers cure him, taking mental notes of the process.

if she is reluctant to go with the acolyte, Olyn will then excuse the acolyte and take her himself to do what was stated above.

Theodore and Macaw
Friday February 11th, 2005 1:46:42 PM

"Okay," says Theodore to Vauhwyt's proposal to switch familiars for a bit.

When Olyn tells the soft-hearted wizard to pick up the undead head, Theodore shudders visibly, but moves towards the hideous thing. With a bunched nose, squinted eyes, and a grimace, he slowly grabs the head from either side and lifts it. He quickly drops the head and runs about making horrid gurgling noises in the back of his throat and vigorously scrubbing his hands together to get any head residue off.

After calming himself, taking a few deep breaths and such, Theodore approaches the head once more, this time with two daggers drawn. He proceeds to pierce each temple of the head with a dagger. The whole thing looks like some horrible cob of corn on large corn stickers. The fickle mage holds grips the handle of each dagger, holding the head well away from his body, and trounces through the bakery and outside.

He sends Macaw into the house to stay with Vauhwyt and then proceeds to race through the tunnels of Dirt City with the undead head stretched before him, the whole time emitting a pathetic, high-pitched wail as he moves towards the temple.

Once inside, he quickly dumps the head, daggers and all, on the temple floor and goes to stand very far away from it until Vorelle and Olyn arrive.

Mookie
Friday February 11th, 2005 3:27:03 PM

Mookie flies just ahead of Theo, cawing, "Make way for the Head! Make way for the Head!"

Vorelle
Friday February 11th, 2005 6:51:36 PM

A slight frown creases Vorelle's forehead as she watches Olyn with the little girl. Odd that he should assume that only the undead creature had ever beaten the child. When Vorelle herself was small, she'd been beaten by both parents, her elder brother, neighborhood kids, and the occasional random adult. This was Dirt City, after all, and beating seemed to be a primary method of communication.

In that light, she's not sure it's wise to promise the child that she'll never be beaten again. She opens her mouth to speak, then decides that it's a topic best raised later on, in private.

Instead she turns to offer belated help to Theo, carrying the head in.

Vauhwyt (and Macaw)
Saturday February 12th, 2005 2:07:30 PM

Vauhwyt makes sure she picks up every piece of the broken machine. "Help me look for bits, Macaw, please."

She stows them all away.

She also looks around for any hidden exits. How high is the ceiling? She'll poke around up there with her longspear.

After the main room is finished, she goes upstairs and searches up there.

The continued search of the cavern, tunnel, and bakery produces no other information or clues.

Olyn, she agrees to go with the acolyte as long as she can come back to you when she is finished.

The priest comes rushing out when informed that you have entered the temple. He takes one look at the head and then one look at the group. "You are most blessed for being able to defeat this creature. If it is what I think it is you are blessed indeeed."

He picks up the head and takes it into the room with the Timmi. "We will see what we can do." He is gone for some time before the door opens again. He walks back out and their is sweat running down his forehead. He looks like he has bee weakened considerably.

"He will live. Although because of the taint he came in contact with he will always carry the spiritual scar with him. That is the way of the bodak. Those slain by a creature of such evil always rise the next night as a bodak. In this case we were able to bring him back to the land of the living, but it will always be a part of him."

During this lapse in time the rest of the group finishes with their search and found nothing more.

Olyn, the little girl is returned to you, minus all of the dirt and grime of course. She is a little human girl. Her blond hair has been pulled back into a long pony tail that runs to the middle of her back. She has eyes the color of the deep ocean. She has been drressed in a simple white gown of the acolytes.

He has to smile at Theo bringing the head away and Mookie as his herald, though he doesn't like it to call people's attention.

Finally, before the group definetely leaves the cave, Dietrich inspects it and the remainings of the artifact with his stonemason craftmanship.

"Here is your package." He says in a very meek and wheezy voice. "I need to work on the smoke. I'm an asthmatic you know." And with that he poofs off.

The next morning Berlon performs his devotions, including prayers to Alemi for guidance and prayer memorization. Once he is done with his spells, he will use up the last of his powdered silver to cast Bless Water.

He takes the newly made holy water, along with the flask of acid he mixed together the previous day, and gently places them in his backpack.

He then starts the preparations for another Tanglefoot Bag. He frowns a little as he is running out of ingredients. He'll have to do some restocking soon, but he uses up 17 gp and 7 sp worth on the new project.

Unfortunately, it doesn't start very well and the bag leaks (Craft Alchemy check 17). He'll have to start again, another 8 and a half gp down the drain tomorrow...

He cleans up the mess and tends to anyone who comes by the lab, then slaps the side of his head. "Friend Theo! I've got to get to him before he spends his money on a lobster claw or eye of newt or whatever it is he uses..."

With that, he closes up the lab and tries to find Theodore. If he does, and if Theo hasn't already had the spell cast, he will touch his holy symbol to the ring the group found and cast Identify.

Theodore and Macaw
Monday February 14th, 2005 7:10:17 PM

Theodore is much obliged to be rid of the head, retrieving his dagger and placing them gingerly in a pouch for a thorough scrubbing later on. The good health of Timmi and the little girl is also a relief to Theodore, and it seems as if a weight has been lifted from his shoulders. He stands a little straighter, a little taller.

When Olyn and Vorelle decide to move out, Theodore follows them, eager to get back to the others and see if they've found anything of interest. He also happily hands over the ring to Berlon for the gnome to examine, on the condition that he allows the mage to observe his magic in action. Any use of the Art, be it arcane or divine, is quite intriguing to the inspired pupil.

Vorelle
Monday February 14th, 2005 11:04:04 PM

Vorelle listens solemnly as the priest tells them of Timmi's condition. She lingers with the boy a little, thinking he might be glad of a friendly face.

Rose

Rose waits to speak to the others and the priests when none of the children are around.

"That thing said it would come back, do you know a way we can prevent it?

What do you mean Timmi will bear the mark of what happened his whole life? How will that affect him?"

Rose seems unusually quiet and somber as you return to the houses. That night Vauhwyt and Vorelle are woken by Rose screaming during a nightmare.

Olyn, meekly the girls tells you that her name is runt. She doesn't remember her mother or her father. She thinks she remembers the orcs saying something about her being from the north. "Olyn," she says. "I don't like it here very much. Everyone keeps staring at me. Can we go. I want to see where you live."

Deitrich, upon close examination you really can only tell that the artifacts and the dias were made about the same time. And that was a great many centuries ago. The way they were all formed looks as if they meerly were. The craftsmanship even rivals that of the dwarfs.

Vauhwyt, you find nothing more on your way out to the surface.

Berlon, you discover it is a ring of regeneration.

Vorelle, you do not see his father. When you walk into Timmi's room you see the father still sitting next to him. He is clasping his hand and his head is laying on the bed.

Rose, the old priest turns to you. "He is a little closer now, to the shadowlands. What exactly that means, I can not say. He will have a dark power now and as he grows it will determine his destiny. He could use it to become a bastion of the undead and wreck havok upon the land of the living. Or he could use it for the forces of good and help drive the undead back to the shadowlands. It all depends on how strong his willpower is."

Dietrich
Tuesday February 15th, 2005 7:17:50 AM

Despite the circumstances, Dietrich has to admire the craftmanship. He passes any insights on to his friends and hopes someone skilled in lores can make something of it.

When his friends come back he asks:
"So, is Timmi alright? What kind of *&£$~# monster was it?"

He is quite worried about what he hears regarding Timmis future and surely recomends to keep an eye on him.

When the party goes home, Dietrich remembers Zayne's strange disappering (ooc I know, but the character finds it really strange, after all, the party lives partially in Zayne's appartment). He opens a small barrel of ale to commemorate their success and suggests the group discuss and plan their next move.

"We have to wait for everyone to get back herre," Vauhwyt replies. "And we can't just leave this place unattended. Either we take responsibility for it and lock it up, or we get someone in authority to take overr."

"But for now I think we should get back to the bakery and make sure everything is all right."

One last thought in the Bakery -- how about those books that werre on the shelf that triggered the secret door? Are those real books? If so, Vauhwyt will read them.

I am running full speed today. Had alot come up today so if I miss something please let me know and I will rectify the situation. I am sending out an email to address xp and other items.

Olyn, your friend would like to be called Elanna. She doesn't know why, but it just sounds right. You also make it back to the apartment.

You are able to reboard the window and lock the door before leaving. It might not keep everyone out forever, but it will give you enough time to figure out what you are going to do next.

Vauhwyt, on the way out you grab the books.

Everyone else eventually makes it back to the apartment. Olyn is there with the girl and they are playing games.

Theodore and Macaw
Wednesday February 16th, 2005 6:06:21 PM

Theodore is glad to be heading home. Once there, he places the newly acquired ring upon the table for a group discussion as to who the new owner should be. He also asks for the picture with the writing on the back to be produced, (believe Berlon picked it up) so that he might have a closer look at it.

Things to do today:

1) Scribe a Bull's Strength Scroll (6 xp 75 gp removed from cs, scroll added.) Check.

2) Meet up with Friends at the apartments. Check.

3) Remember to remind Friends to get those artifact gems checked and appraised. ("Friends! We need to remember to get those artifact gems checked and appraised!) Check.

4) Remember to talk about the ring, if asked. ("Well, Friends, under most circumstances I think Friend Olyn and I can provide a good amount of healing, and the ring would probably fetch a pretty penny on the open market...") Check.

5) Check to see if any Friends need healing. ("Friends, do any of you still require healing after your night's rest?") Check.

6) Once back at the lab, check on the Tanglefoot Bag started the previous day. ("Ack! out of ingredients! Hmm...) Skip for now.

7) Check to see if there are any monies in the bag Berlon puts the pocket change he gets from selling his miscellaneous alchemical creations. ("Yes, this gets out blood. Why do you ask?") Craft: Alchemy check for week = 22 = 11 gp. Check.

8) Trudge back out and buy materials for another stab at the Tanglefoot Bag. ("Forget that, I'm beat. I'll do it tomorrow.")

Vorelle
Thursday February 17th, 2005 12:41:08 AM

Berlon has proved his worth--but he's still a comparative stranger and Vorelle is still leery of strangers. So it is Olyn to whom she sidles up and requests some additional healing.

[After a night's sleep she'll be down by 4, I believe.]

As usual, Vorelle displays little interest in the treasure.

Rose
Thursday February 17th, 2005 7:34:23 AM

As the night gets later and everyone starts getting tired Rose says "Olyn, Elanna needs to come with Vauhwyt, Vorelle, and me tonight. She cant stay in a house full of guys.

As she takes Elanna back to the girls apartment Rose will buy some clothes for Elanna, visit the bath house, and buy dinner including some bread for breakfast.

Back at the girls apartment Rose will make up a bed for Elanna either in Rose and Vorelle's room or in Vauhwyt's room, which ever Elanna prefers.

if Elanna protests going with Rose and the other girls, he calmly says to her: it's ok my dear, its good for you to go with them, besides, they have better tastes in the shopping department than me.

as the girls leaves, he walks up behind Vorelle, places his hands on her shoulders, and heals her for 10 points, more than enough to heal her up.

the next day, leaving Elanna in the hands of the other ladies, he excuses himself citing some personal business, and heads out. first stopping off at the temple for prayers and tithing (50gp), then he heads to the House of the Wolves (Jamie, i really think we should do my roleplaying there in emails)

Dietrich
Thursday February 17th, 2005 10:17:10 AM

Dietrich is glad that everything went smoothly and prepares for the group parley at home. Though he is relieved to see Elana well, the warrior isn't exactly happy with small girls around (others from Rose, of course) in the house and is quite satisfied with Rose's suggestion...

He offers some of the ale to everybody and takes his gear off, admiring the rune encraved breast plate, before turning to his friends.

Concerning the ring, Dietrich thinks it best to stick to the agreed procedure, that is, the partymembers that didn't get any magic the last time should dispute it.

He feels comfortable to have the funny Gnome in the discussion, as he's proved reliable and, after all, is a sacred man of Alemi. But Dietrich is still worried with Zayne's disappearance.

Before people start dissipating, he says:

"Well friends, what now? First of all, I'd say we have to act as a group and discuss our actions before exectuting them.
I'd also suggest that we have a research about this weird undead cult and possible connections with other enemies. Don't forget that the bakery was marked in the book we brought with us from the cursed MArteus servants.
Also, what kind of political consequences do you think this might have? The CIty has been a very dangerous place for the last weeks."

If you prefer to take some of the roleplaying into email no prob. Just shoot me the email, although I may not do alot of roleplaying in the email to ensure I quick turnaround.

Elanna goes with the girls, but she turns at the last minute and runs back to Olyn. She makes a flying leap that knocks him over and gives him a big hug and kiss. "Thanks. I will see you in the morning." She says as she looks at the ground turning a shade of pink.

Rose, even though Elanna was seen by the best healers the temple had to offer you see the brunt of the torture Elanna received at the hands of her captors. Her back is littered with scars from whippings. It looks like they used some type of jagged metal at one point. Her toes look as if the toe nails have been torn out and at times, parts of the ends of her toes.

She tries to hide most of her body with a towel while she is in the water. She is obviously shy about her appearence.

As bedtime closes, before you have a chance to make her a bed she walks over to one of the corners of the room and lays down. She then looks up expectantly and says meekly, "I am ready for the chains now." She extends her wrists and you can see where something has, over time, dug scars into the calloused skin around her wrists.

The rest of the night wear on uneventfully for the rest of the group.

Vauhwyt and Mookie  d20+7=10 d20+7=19
Thursday February 17th, 2005 8:22:30 PM

Vauhwyt smiles at the girl, and says, "There's plenty of room in my big bed. Come sleep with me if you like!"

When she sees the child's wounds, Vauhwyt gets really angry. She has a hard time hiding her emotion (Bluff check 10). Mookie says, "Calm down, Boss. Don't frighten the kid."

Vauhwyt nods and tries even harder. She smiles at Elanna and tells her, "I'm not mad at you, sweetie. I'm mad at people who would hurt you like this. Those are bad people. Don't worry. We're going to do our best to make sure no one hurts you again."

When the child volunteers to be chained, Vauhwyt has a much better time hiding the depth of her feeling (Bluff 19). "No, dear one. We don't chain our guests when they go to bed. You are free to come and go as you like."

IF Vauhwyt gets a chance to be alone with the child, maybe because she sleeps with her, then she will talk to Elanna privately.

Highlight to display spoiler: {Vauhwyt takes the opportunity to whisper to Elanna, "When I was a little girl, bad people took me away too. They hurt me like they hurt you. See this." The liontaur holds back her hair on the side she always keeps covering her face. Where her ear used to be is only a ripped mass of scars. "See what they did. But now I am safe and free. Just like you! So sleep well, sweet one, and have happy dreams."}

Berlon
Thursday February 17th, 2005 11:00:34 PM

After the quick discussion, Berlon is the first to leave. "Uh... forgive me... er... I, uh, left a Tanglefoot Bag cooking." With that, he hastily takes his leave.

When he gets back home, he puts away his equipment and sits on the edge of his cot. A faint outline of light can be seen through the edges of the shutters of the lab. He sighs and lays down, but sleep does not come to him.

The lab will not be opening tomorrow.

Theodore and Macaw
Thursday February 17th, 2005 11:25:27 PM

"The ring is a very powerful item," Theodore suggests to the others. "But I have no desire to keep it for myself. If no one else would like the ring, I think we should sell it and split the hefty price that comes from the sale."

Macaw, nestled in the wizard's hair, nods his head vigorously.

Vauhwyt
Thursday February 17th, 2005 11:52:43 PM

Quick extra post.

In the morning, Vauhwyt asks if it might help the girl to give her the ring to wear for a while.

Rose
Friday February 18th, 2005 12:52:16 AM

Unlike Vauhwyt Rose doesnt even think about hiding her reactions when she sees the scars all over Elanna. You can clearly tell from her face first shock then rage and finally sorrow and confusion. Even with all that has happened in the last few months sheltered little Rose still cant comprehend why anybody would do something like that, thievery is common in dirt city and although it can be violent Rose has never really been exposed to much more than bar fights and such. Killing does happen, but usually in fights. Torture, especially on a child, is incomprehensible to Rose. She has been told that it happens, but this is her first experience with it first hand. She shoos away any gawkers in the bath house and helps Elanna wash her hair. She starts to cry when Elanna asks for the chains and as Vauhwyt comforts the girl goes to the kitchen and cries for a bit before bringing Elanna some milk and a sweet for a snack.

Rose has trouble sleeping that night waking up crying in tears, or shivering and scared depending on wether or not she was dreaming of what must have happened to Elanna or the Undead creature that they killed.

Dietrich
Friday February 18th, 2005 9:17:02 AM

Dietrich isn't present at the bath, so can't see what happens there, but what he's seen so far is enough to know that the little girl went through hard time. As so often, she remembers him of the many inocent victims of war and oppression who he's seen during the campaings in the Windbourne Hills, and it fills him with sadness.

Nevertheless, the warrior is a little annoyed that nobody answered or reacted to his suggestions of further movements. He reminds his friends to have a research about that fallen paladin too, as it is certainly very important.

The ex-soldier drinks a little more as usual this night to help him forget all the suffering and have a good sleep.

DM Jamie
Friday February 18th, 2005 12:04:07 PM

Elanna asks to sleep with Vauhwyt for the night. Early in the morning those staying in the ladies quarters hear movement in the dark.

Upon inspection Elanna is up and in the kitchen preparing breakfast. If asked she says matter of factly, "I get up and make breakfast or I get beaten."

Vorelle

In the evening, before they all go to sleep, Vorelle shows Elenna the lock on the door and how strong it is. "N-n-nobody can g-get in to h-h-hurt you," she assures the girl.

The next morning, she gets up to find the child making breakfast. "We d-d-don't b-beat our g-guests," she explains matter-of-factly, "and R-R-Rose usually m-makes b-b-breakfast. Would you l-l-like to h-help?"

Berlon

Berlon does not open his lab come morning. The few questioning knocks go unanswered.

Theodore and Macaw
Friday February 18th, 2005 7:21:52 PM

"Unfortunately, the ring will only heal damage sustained while wearing it," Theodore sadly informs Vauhwyt the next morning when he comes to check on them.

Once again, the mage places the ring upon the table for all to see. "Unless someone claims the ring, now, I will take it to be sold. Speak up." If no one steps forward, Theodore will take up the ring and head towards the magic store.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Friday February 18th, 2005 7:23:37 PM

Vauhwyt sends Mookie around with a message. "Let's talk. Meet at the girls' place.

Vauhwyt tells Mookie to watch out for and play with the child. That way the party can talk.

She tells Dietrich, "I think you had some good ideas. Could you recap them for us?"

Dietrich
Sunday February 20th, 2005 7:21:57 AM

When everybody recovers from the last adventure, Dietrich is eager to have a general meeting with all group members at the girls's place.

He doesn't agree with Theodore selling the ring for the party, as he still thinks the partymembers who didn't get magic items at the Blackbird Forest should dispute the ring. But he would like to know about other stuff found in the bakery, like jewels or so.

Finally, the warrior recapitulate his suggestions:
1) Act as group: collectively decide first what to do (it seems some party members are going around on their own...

2) Have a sound research about the undead they have destroyed and the artifact, possibly strange cults etc.

3) Research about links of the undeads and Marteus/Gaal (the bakery was in the Book we brought from the forest)

4) Possible political consequences of the bakery incident (remembering the dangerous atmosphere of the City in the last weeks)

5) Research about he Paladin hero we saw through the portal: who could he have been, what has he done etc. Links to cults.

6) What happened to Zayne (he's a friend, we live in his place etc.)

Rose
Monday February 21st, 2005 12:11:57 AM

Rose's eyes tear up "You dont have to cook if you dont want to." Rose will make sure that Elanna gets lots of honey on her porridge and toast, lots of milk, and other good things.

At the meeting Rose says "I found several jewels in the house and tunnel, they need to be checked for magic though."

Rose continued
Monday February 21st, 2005 12:34:59 AM

Rose pulls several jewels out of her pouch, one of which is a ruby in the shape of a skull as large as a half orc's fist, and lays them on the table in front of her. She will then casts detect magic on the jewels.

ooc: jaimie Rose picked up all the jewels when the artifact was destroyed, but you never said how many that was or what types.

DM Jamie
Monday February 21st, 2005 7:36:27 AM

And the city sleeps...

In the past 24 hours you have noticed that the city has lost some of the edge it had only a few short days ago. It still has a new air of mystery about it, but the dangerous side seems to have taken a nap.

Everybody makes it to the girls house to discuss. Everyone is suprised when the doorknob turns and Zayne walks into the room.

Along with the questioning of Zayne, which will no doubt happen right away, the discussion covers several things and lasts most of the morning. Sometime you can hear the delighted squeels and giggling of a little girl. Every once in a while you hear Mookie scream out and then an erruption of giggles from both of them.

Rose, there were twelve jewels strewn about the floor. They are various sizes, shapes, and types. You have 1 small diamond, 5 medium emerals, 3 of what you think are amathyst, and then there are 3 saphires. And you also have the ruby shaped like a human skull.

2nd Level: Bull's Strength, Shield Other/Identify

Berlon will try to remember if he knows of any Fixers of Alemi that might be close to Dirt City. He constantly heard stories of them as a gnomeling (more than one of his ancestors had been Fixers or Healers) but that was a long time ago.

Once that is complete, he will make another check, with a second Guidance cast, to see if he can turn up any information on the Paladin of Alemi that they encountered earlier.

Olyn
Monday February 21st, 2005 11:35:28 AM

walking in about an hour before noon and seeing Zayne there he waves saying: good to see you back, where you been?

after an answer he turns to hear Elanna laughing in the background with, with the sound of it, one of the birds, he smiles.

sitting at the table he gets caught up to whats been and being said.

when eyes sort of shift towards him he says: had a talk with a member of the wolves, someone with a bit of authority mind you. and they said for the bakery, like its ours to give, <shrug> but for the bakery, they will find out where Elanna is from, if her parents are alive, and any known relatives for her. when this was proposed to me, I excused myself, inquired at the temple about this warrior in the other realm, then came here, and while I was coming here I thought to myself, if the Wolves want this Bakery, then there is more to it than we found and so I say we go back, henceforth, and really scrutinize that place. leave nothing left unturned, no floorboard unchecked, or wall for that matter, give it a complete look over even if it takes a few days. but do it thoroughly.

Dietrich
Monday February 21st, 2005 11:53:01 AM

Dietrich is glad to see Zayne and Olyn back and listens to his friends's explanations. He is suspicious at what might be the connections between the bakery and the wolves and he agrees to have a new search there, but after they got some information about the paladin and the kult. He also suggests to get some info about people possibly linked to the traitor baker and the place.

The warrior smiles at Elanna's good time and remembers Mookie's funny ways.

He is very satisfied with the treasure and wonders how much it will be in gold.

Zayne
Monday February 21st, 2005 12:17:21 PM

As Zayne slinks into teh room he has a bewildered look on his face. He sits down and sits there patiently. When Oly walks in and wave he nodds back and responds by saying,"I'll tell you later. So can anyone fill me in on what's going on and who is that giggling with Mookie?"

Theodore and Macaw
Monday February 21st, 2005 5:47:56 PM

Theodore humphs to himself and spins the ring about on the table. "Then, if there are no objections, I will take the ring for myself."

"I can look into the artifact that was down there," he suggests. "And I might be able to find something on the bodak. I won't be much use discussing politics, though."

Theodore also offers to appraise the jewels that Rose collected, if she wants him to.

Rose
Monday February 21st, 2005 10:59:05 PM

Rose continues to concentrate on the jewels with her detect magic spell for as long as she is able. After she is done she will ask Theo to appraise the jewels first and then she'll use Barnum's Appraisal to do a second appraisal for comparison.

Vorelle
Monday February 21st, 2005 11:35:04 PM

"W-w-we r-r-rescued her," Vorelle explains to Zayne, glad to have her fellow Ranger back in the group again.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Tuesday February 22nd, 2005 5:48:55 AM

Vauhwyt nods at Dietrich's sensible words.

She thinks over the treasure she has received in the past -- a magic weapon, a magic ring -- and she thinks that she has had a fair share of magic stuff. Let someone else have a turn. "Theo," Vauhwyt says, "what was the last magic treasure you gained? If you are due, that sounds good to me. Who else has not had much lately? I had that ring from Blackbird Lake, so I'm okay."

Mookie says, "Hey! I never got any magic item!"

Vauhwyt says, "Oh, yeah! Mookie! I just bought some things for you! Herre, this magic bag and these scrolls. I'll show you how to use them!"

"Wow! Boss! For me?" -- the bird seems surprised.

As for the gems, part of Vauhwyt thinks we should sell them and split the proceeds. Part of her wonders if they should keep them since they came from the machine. That skull sure looks interesting.

And then Zayne returns! As soon as she sees him, Vauhwyt leaps up and gives him a hug! "Hey, you dummy! We missed you! How are you doing!"

As you sit there and discuss there is a knock at the door. When you look out the window you see, waiting for someone to answer, is one of the Princes bodyguards. From the looks of things he is nervous. He keeps looking over his shoulder and he is tapping his foot on the front step as if in a hurry.

I believe Brent will be taking over as of tommorow.

Dietrich agrees with Theo having the ring and is fully concentrated at the discussion when there is the sudden knock at the door.

As he sees the Prince's uniform, the warrior sighs silently. It was really expected. But perhaps we can even get more information...

As Olyn speaks to the man, Dietrich starts getting ready to departure again, giving Zayne a look not to create any problems for now.

Brent never got back with me so I am still here... bwahahahahaha

As the door opens you almost see a sigh of relief pour over the mans face. As if you being home meant his life.

"Ah, mam,...." the young man stutters. "I see that you are home. The prince has asked to see you and yours on a matter of great urgency. I have been informed to secure your visit by any means necessary."

As he says that last statement he motions behind him to the squad of 6 men waiting.

Mookie, as you are playing in the back with Elanna, suddenly the room grows cold. Cold enough that you can see your own breath. Elanna looks up and with cold milky eyes she begins to speak to you. Her voice sounds as if it has a longing for something it can no longer have.

"Feathered one," she begins, "I don't have much time." Her speech is labored and slow. "There is a storm approaching. Focus on your task at hand, it will help you weather the storm. Remember you are all braver than you know, smarter than you think, and stronger than you feel. Someday you will be great warriors."

With that Elanna drops to the floor and the room warms once again.

Dietrich
Thursday February 24th, 2005 6:54:30 AM

Oblivious to what is going on between Elanna and Mookie, Dietrich musters the Prince's "envoy" and the guards. He doesn't like their tone at all and is a little surprised by the implicit threat, though he doesn't think the 6 guys would be a match to the party anyway. He thinks to himself: "Why this now? We usually have quite good relations with the bigwigs."

The warrior shrugs and waits for Olyn or Vauhwyt to do the speaking. He will accompany the guards without comments, but with his full equipment.

Olyn

looking at the guard at the door saying: you needed threaten us with those guards to summon us, all you have to do is command us, being we are here for the Prince to command.

turning to the others: the Prince needs our help yet again, some grave matter came up and only we can dela with it. so, gather your things, your packs and lets go.

we'll leave Elanna with the priests, I know she'll be safe there while we are gone. and with that said he goes into the backroom to get Elanna. upon arrival he sees her slumped onto the floor and thinking she is sleeping he goes to her, gently stroking her back like a loving parent would to awaken a sleeping child. saying: Elanna dear, time to wake up, we must go see someone and I need you to be a big girl and stay with my friends at the temple for a bit.

*if she wakes up he picks her up and carries her to the men's quarters, sitting her on top of the table while he goes and retrieves his gear*

*if she doesnt wake up he'll begin checking her like a healer would a fallen friend, gently, but with determination, and in doing so will yell out for his friends to come help*

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Thursday February 24th, 2005 9:34:44 AM

Vauhwyt feesl the sharp spike of fear that jabs through the link between her and her familiar. "Mookie!" she shouts as she stands. She follows Olyn to the inner room, where Mookie is jabbering.

"I didn't do it! It wasn't me! I didn't touch her! Honest, Boss! I had nothing to do with it! It was her own fault! She was --"

"Shut up!" Vauhwyt tells the raven, more sharply than usual. "We'll talk about this laterr."

She goes to Olyn. "Is the girl okay?"

Seeing that she is in good hands, the liontaur stuffs the bird into her pouch and turns to the guards.

"Of course we will be right with you. We're getting our things right now. We'll be dropping this girl off at the Temple of Wardd on our way."

Theodore and Macaw

Vorelle hangs back, thinking frantically. She has a bad feeling about this meeting, and doesn't want to go. At the very least, she wants to tell someone where they're going so they'll know where to start looking for the bodies. But there doesn't seem to be time.

The comotion in the back room rouses everybody as Olyn starts to yell Ellana's name. He yells for the rest of the group and there is an edge of fear in his voice.

The body guard and the 6 others outside perk up to the yells and start to enter the room to investigate.

Olyn, Elanna is not waking up and she is cold to the touch, but breathing is regular. Her pulse is good and she does not appear to be suffering from any type of wounds that you can see.

Theodore, the ring fills you with a warmth when you slip it on. Much like a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter night when you sit down in front of the fire place to enjoy a good book.

Rose, you are able to squirel away a few things into your bag of holding (OCC: if you put in anything strange just let me know what it is)

looking up with confusion as everyone comes rushing in, and with tears welling up in his eyes, he picks up Elanna saying out loud, we must make haste to the Temple, she lives but has the feel of death on her.

and with that, he rushes as fast as he can, carying her safely, to the Temple.

Theodore uses his staff to push aside the guardmen, gently but firmly, to let Olyn through. "We go to the Temple first. Once the girl has been seen to, we will come with you."

Dietrich

Dietrich doesn't understand what is happening, but is worried. He uses his massive body to shield Olyn and the girl from the guards and accompanies the cleric to the Temple.

When Theo speaks, Dietrich looks at the guards, reinforcing the mage's speech.
