The Big Dream [CDM Jerry] Saturday March 19th, 2005 1:44:00 PM
The two Half-Orcs shudder. Their necks pop and break. Out of their bodies come ghosts.
They shout in triumph as they are released. Then spotting the party, they approach.
As their features clear, you can see that the spirits are...ELVEN!!!
They extend their arms and the area around the party becomes white. Bright white. Cleansing white. The whiteness sears the soul and also brings it joy. The joy of freedom!
Your spirits rise out of your bodies to float together in a circle facing in.
A voice from somewhere deep within says, "Something's happening."
Some sort of collective elven effect is at work! And you are hearing it!
As you struggle to come to grips with these events, your conscious minds fade and a waking dreamlike state begins.
There is then a joining of minds. Elven minds. Minds that look at life in terms of centuries instead of years.
Nearby elves join in. Some join to a lesser extent being half-elves or other relates species.
The pool of collective thought grows until it becomes Woldwide!
The overwhelming thought becomes "Why?"
An ancient being joining the mix replies, "This has happened twice before. This is the third time."
"What has happened before? comes the overwhelming response."
"This. Prepare and listen."
A common Elven Dream begins. ---------
You are floating...in space..?
You can see The Wold turning lazily beneath you, so very far below--slow but steady, the planet rotates, basking blissfully in the light of the bright golden disk hanging above it. Sunlight dapples the large fertile brown expanses of land dotted with areas of green forest...it sparkles across the waves of the blue-green ocean.
The Wold is as it is.
Suddenly you become aware that there are three smaller discs approaching the bright one, also at a slow but steady pace...you realize that the bright disk must be the sun, and the others are the moons of The Wold.
The three new discs align to cover the sun completely, leaving it and The Wold in darkness. But there--right in the middle of the now-black sun-disk--a pair eyes blink open, as though awakened from sleep.
The almond-shaped eyes--the bright, brilliant hue of sky and sea--look down upon The Wold. They widen in surprise, as though viewing the burgeoning world for the first time in a very, very long time...then the expression in the turquoise eyes grows rather sad. A tear forms and falls from one of the eyes as it blinks.
The eyes in the black sun narrow slightly--as though the unseen person to whom they belong has suddenly begun contemplating...and then the eyes blink again, once more brightening with the enlightenment of a great idea..!
The eyes glow warmly--if there were a face to go with them, you just know that it would have a happy, friendly grin in place--and The Wold, turning in its slow, steady pace, begins to grow green. Focusing on the planet, you can see that the forests of The Wold flourish and grow lush once more, spreading their fertile growth across the faces of the both the continent of Yrth and the Fragmented Lands, as the owner of the eyes laughs delightedly.
You swoop down from your lofty perch and find yourself standing in an ancient forest, Culverwood, breathing in the good green scent of the ancient trees. There is a dark, malevolent blot at the edge of your senses whom the collective knows to be Parnoth the oppressor--then suddenly, the blot disappears from sight and you hear the great beast's agonized screams.
More screams and cries ring in your ears now--the voices of those who oppose and harm Nature, the voices of those who would hold back the elves and make them lesser beings, the voices of evil. Too long they have been allowed to run free, but now they face their just reward. Through it all, the owner of the eyes continues to laugh.
The dream ends and the personal you physically awakens with laughter still ringing in your ears.
Aiden (AC 16 HP 2/11) [round 4 response] d20=8 Saturday March 19th, 2005 2:37:23 PM
Aiden nodded as he, too, stepped forward for the one on one battle against the half orc. He readies and swings his axe, the loss of blood and the cold inspired weakness causing him to not strike true....
to hit 8 + 4 = 12 (hrrrm...don't think that quite does it)

Bohdi's arms hung loose at his side and his mouth gaped. "Wh-what-what--" he sputtered, as his vision cleared and his senses returned to the blood-filled battlefield. "What was--what was that? Did--did anyone else see ...?"
The gnome's voice trailed off as the pain of the arrow in his shoulder refocused his attention. He watched as Nauthiz'Ull launched an arrow at a new target, and his bewilderment turned to frustration.
"Nauthiz'Ull, no!" he ground his teeth. "One target at a time! One target at a--oh, never mind," he growled, and aimed a shot at the enemy archer before reloading. (Think he has 3 bolts remaining after this.)

Even as Aiden's strike may have missed the half orc warrior, Aiden spits out his oath, "Whatever foul magicks you tried to cast, you WILL fall..."

Conclusions [DM Post] Monday March 21st, 2005 6:18:44 AM
With the fall of the two half orcs and the ghosts of those very same creatures rising up to spout prophecy and vanish, the remaining orc archer is overwhelmed. "Necromancers! Soul Stealers!" he cries as he turns and flees, his bow falls uncaring from his grasp. Very quickly he is leaping the far rise and disappears. Leaving only the group, the polar bear and the goal of the flower. The Polar bear has further dragged its meal into the rocks and seems quite content.
The three branched tree loses its leaves and seems as it did before. A whithered small tree in the heart of the field of flowers and grass with snow melt breaking up the ground.
Bohdi Nackle d6=1 Monday March 21st, 2005 9:33:50 AM
The gnome's breath clouded in front of him in ragged gasps. His shoulders sagged forward. "Are they--are they all--did they--is it over?" he managed to get out at last.
He looked at the others each in turn; none of them were unscathed by the battle. The dried blood still caked on Nauthiz'Ull's furs; the enlarged Garrett, too, suffered from cuts and arrows in several places. Aiden, the rugged one, seemed the worst for wear again, although, as usual, he tried to show no signs of it on his face.
And then there was Frigg. What had happened to her? "Frigg? Frigg'Isa?" the gnome questioned from his place. "Nauthiz'Ull, what's happened to her?" Perhaps it had been the combination of the battle and the vision--perhaps blood and Woldian earth-magic was too much for the young witch's magic-attuned senses. Bohdi looked sympathetically at the shell-shocked woman, before a lance of pain from his shoulder reminded him of his own problems.
"Arrgh," he grimaced, and he pulled the barbed orc arrow from his shoulder. He looked at the cruel black arrowhead, now coated with his own blood, and winced before tossing it aside.
He looked down at the orc at his feet--the one that he had struck unconscious with his Color Spray. "This one may still be alive," he announced. In a fit of unreasoning anger, he fired a deadly bolt at the creature's head in an attempt to make certain that the foul creature had breathed its last (Coup de Grace, automatic critical, damage 3 (feh!), FORT check 13 or die). Then regret seized him.
"We should check to make sure they're all really dead. Check their bodies, too. If this--thing--" he gave the body a swift kick-- "Still lives, we might be able to question it and find out if there are other raiders nearby. Should have thought of that before you tried to kill it, fool," he added in a mutter to himself.
Finally, the gnome's thoughts turned to their surroundings. "Flower. Bear. Should get it and be careful ..." his voice started to drone and ring hollow, and Bohdi realized, dully, that he was starting to slip into shock. Loss of blood and adrenaline, he thought to himself. Now I start to collapse. Naturally.
As his consciousness started fading, he recalled the latest vision. Three visions in three days?
What did it all mean?

Garrett Monday March 21st, 2005 5:52:19 PM
"Now is not the time or the place to delay. Let's get these accursed flowers, check the bodies and get back to the cave before night falls. We need to rest and heal. Something much greater than just us is happening here, and we need to make it home and tell the village as soon as we can. But first we need rest and healing from the battle."
Garrett begins going over the bodies of the fallen tusks and collecting their possessions, especially the leader.
"Nauth, why don't you and Aiden go get the flowers, don't forget to get them all. We made a promise to the ants."
Aiden (AC 16 HP 2/11) Monday March 21st, 2005 8:24:31 PM
Aiden looked at the others, frowning. "If you are worried about them being dead...I can make sure that they never arise..." as he turned his large, blood crusted axe and looked over towards the fallen warriors.
Aiden was definitely not one for prisoners.
However, something else was bothering Aiden. Just what had happened....and who had caused the spirits to split?
"It appears that the tree bears it's own magic that is tied to life..." as he remembered the tree suddenly flowering when the conflict had gotten bloody.
OOC: I'm a little confused, do we see the red flowers now, or is it a general field of flowers that is ahead of us?
[DM Post There is the Red flower and an assorment of others about the tree]

Nauthiz'Ull d20=20 d20=10 Monday March 21st, 2005 10:48:10 PM
The battered boy spits some remaining blood as he watches the ork flee. His head pounds with a caccaphony of voices and visions and his soul is removed momentarily.
As his senses return to his control, he shoulders his bow and rubs his temples as the searing pain remains. He looks at his companions and solemnly blinks and nods as he meets eyes with his companions; a look of great appreciation and humility floods his features.
Without a word he walks over to his sister and hugs her. His right arm grabs the back of her head and pulls it to his shoulder. A tighter, more lovingly embraced has not been known in the Vein.
"Sis, you have seen too much too soon. I am sorry that you have to experience this Frigsa, but it is for the best. Our cause now has grown infinetely and we are destined to be something. You are with us again and I will never let anything happen to you."
As he finishes he whisper-like words to Frigg'Isa he closes his eyes and kisses her forehead; tears stream down his cheeks.
A moment later he lets go of the girla nd wipes his eyes haphazardly. He turns and surveys the scene again, and his gaze focuses on the polar bear. One can almost see a slight nod of acceptance as Nauth slowly walks towards the polar bear; the dark boy audibly grunts and whimpers as an attempt to calm and thank the animal for its help. ==============

Folwer Picking [DM Post] Tuesday March 22nd, 2005 6:14:36 PM
Bohdi does indeed finish off the enemy laying at his feet.
None about the group now lives and the search of the bodies begins. the quick hunt yeilds up the following: 120 gold pieces, 65 silver pieces and 40 copper Studded Leather x4 Battle axes x4 Short swords x2 Longbow
Most importantly the group now has retrieved the Red Flower of Kelda-Sigr and large groups of the others as well for the ants.
With little more to accomplish in the Alpine meadow the group begins to head back for teh cave, hoping to make it by nightfall.
Feel free to multi-post the field and anything you wish to do while still in the vicinity.
Frigg'Isa (sub-Drew) Tuesday March 22nd, 2005 6:24:07 PM
The girl stood, motionless, with eyes aglaze. Horrors filled her vision and these barbaric creatures held her in terror.
As the events unfolded, Frigsa could not help but stare and now as her brother holds her tightly she begins to return to a normal state.
A wealth of tears burst forth from the abyss of her eyes and flood her cheeks and the furs of her brother. His words calm her as usual and she squeezes his arms and sniffles.
As Nauth pulls away, Frigsa finds herself without a voice and a tiny squeak pops from her throat.
Bohdi Nackle d20+8=19 Wednesday March 23rd, 2005 1:14:23 PM
"Guess we should take what we can and go," the gnome suggested. As was his wont, Bohdi took a moment and cast a Detect Magic over the orc's gear, and then sweeping the field, to ascertain whether any magic was present, before moving on. He made sure that someone was carrying the gear, and particularly the coins, back to the cave, where they could decide better what to do with all of it. And he kept a wary eye on the polar bear, which seemed to have forgotten about the rest of them in light of its orcish snack.
As they headed back to the cave, Bohdi walked next to Frigg'Isa. "You feeling any better, love?"
As they walked, Bohdi held and studied the dagger they had found in the cave, trying to ascertain any more he could about its faint enchantment (apply detect magic at heightened scrutiny and Spellcraft, if applicable: 19).
Aiden Wednesday March 23rd, 2005 9:10:58 PM
Aiden, having wiped off his axe on the clothed remains of the Twin Tusker, quietly said a few words.
It was quite difficult for any to hear what he had said (unless someone was nosy enough). For those that were, it was in a strange language (orc).
In orc (pseudo prayer): ...you fought and died well. our battle incomplete until my death...your weapon will rust and bones fade, but your savage glory will not...
And then, getting up, he helped to harvest the flowers as best as he could, allowing the red flower to be taken by another.
Looking over towards Frigga, he fought back the thought of ~women...~. Women were not allowed on the battlefield with those from Twin Tusks, and at moments such as this, sometimes, Aiden didn't quite question the belief as much. However, Frigga had proved herself in another battle, and against the ghosts, and so, Aiden would silently reserve judgement.
Especially since his battle prowess has been far from adequate (in his own eyes).
And so the big ranger (who seemed somewhat brooding despite the puppy rampage) quietly worked, brooding inside his own soul as questions started to come to mind. Would I have been victorious if not for that dream? What is my fate if I could do little to help?

The Haunted Cave [DM Post] Thursday March 24th, 2005 12:11:07 PM
The things collected, the group makes tracks for the shelter of the cave for the evening.
Bohdi examines the dagger more, but it yields no secrets to the gnome. None of the Tusker equipment radiated a magical aura.
Aiden broods a little during the return, but once the unshelterred slopes of Burfell are reached for the descent, such self indulgant thoughts are dismissed. Distraction upon the slopes of such a mountain as Burfell can be a death sentence.
The others are quient and the cave is reached as the heavy twighlight blankets the area and soon the cave is plunged into darkness. However thier is still plenty of wood cached here and a warming fire is quickly constructed and fed throughout the night.
There are no stirs, but a ever present wind across the cave, the breath of Burfell. Each sleeps in thier turn, thoughts of the last few days steeled to their minds. Hopefully the elders and priests can make more of these matters. Home, however, is still a long 3 days across the windswept tundra where wolves hunt and the everpresent cold stalks the living.
Nauthiz'Ull Thursday March 24th, 2005 1:03:18 PM
Reaching the cave was a blessing to the ranger as his limbs were weary and his body still battered and bruised. An irony taste still coated his mouth and visions of his sister's pertified gaze burned in his mind.
"Tomorrow we must return to the Ants and give them their promised payment. We can ask them of the dream we had as well. It never hurts. Also, we need to figure out what they meant by calling upon them."
Nauth's choppy and disjointed thoughts are prevalent in his equaly-mannered speech.
He takes his turn at post, yet always somehow remains close to Frigga. In the morning he rises to stretch and not only feeds the wold pup, who is growing stronger each day, but plays with im and gives him a bit of exercise.
"Today friend, you make your own way through the snow. It is time you learn your ways."
As the group gets ready to leave, the dark-skinned boy stands next to Aiden.
"Wunjo, I thank you for your bravery yesterday. The spirit of Wolf was in you, and you were a part of me being here this brisk morning. Please, lead the group back down Burfell as your skills are not only usefull on the battle field."
Nauth then holds his hand out in a manner that he assumes is a sign of respect and thankfulness, and waits for Aiden to clasp it.
Frigg'Isa (sub-Drew) d20+9=12 d20+7=17 Thursday March 24th, 2005 1:12:57 PM
The night proved as difficult as the events of the day for the young girl. Huddled in a nook of the cave, Frigga was burried in not only her furs, but most of Nauth's as well. Visions of the horrors at the alpine meadow along with myriad of questions as to what the dream meant kept her awake or in light slumberr most of the night.
She starred motionless as Nauth exchanged watched with Bohdi and for that while she felt at ease. Her body relaxed and a warm sense of safety blanketed her and fell upon her eyelids.
In the morning, the blossoming young witch returned her brother's furs to him and pulled some rations form her pack. In fact, she removed everythign from her pack, refolded it and repacked it.
"I...I am sorry..." burst from Frigga almost as fast as the tears lept off of her cheeks. After a moment in the arms of Nauth and the company of her friends however, she sensed that they held naught against her.
She stays in front of her brother and takes his hand at the difficult spots of the descent, but a somberr mood stil covers her emotions. All the while, her eyes wander about as she takes in the present weather and what that could mean for the group in the days to come. ========== Survival-12 (predict the weather)
ooc: sorry I forgot to post nauth's survival (predict weather, which accounts for the second roll=17)
Bohdi Nackle (HP 5/7) Thursday March 24th, 2005 3:36:41 PM Conversation for the night: Having reached the relative safety of the cave once more, Bohdi's mood returned to its usual sour state. "Ghosts," he muttered. "Visions. Ice ants. Who bloody well needs them, is what I say."
He looked at the others, who appeared to be consumed with their own thoughts and concerns. "And why should we bloody well care, anyway? It's our necks on the line out here in the cold, ennit? I mean, really, Garrett: if these ghosts, and visions, and cryptic messages and all--if they meant something, surely Domi or someone more powerful would already be doing something about it, wouldn't they? I mean, really, wouldn't they? And this Great Harmonic Elven Convergence--" he waved his hands in sarcastic grandeur-- "I mean, bugger all to them, eh? We're not elves. We don't know any elves. I don't even particularly care for elves--like 'em even less, now, come to think of it."
"And Aiden," he said, addressing the ranger. "Those Tuskers out there. Your old pals, eh? Did they hesitate to try to kill us for some sodding flower, elf-blood or no? Eh? Right. Precisely. It's a bear-eat-elf Wold out here, and I say, bugger all to the lot of them! We get back to Ice Peak with our blasted little flower, we give Kayra what she bloody well wanted, and be done with! Right, Aiden?"
He looked for confirmation to the others. "Right? Garrett? Frigg'Isa? Nauthiz'Ull? Nauth, you really want your sister going through more of what we saw out there today? That's what visions and delusions of grandeur will get you--bloody well killed, is what. Which you nearly were, as I recall--ta very much, I'm sure. So from here on out, it's no more visions, no more ghosts, no more bleeding elf-witches-from-the-beyond nonsense--we keep our heads down, and straight back to the village, and that's that!"
"And after that ...." the gnome mused half to himself. "Then it's back to the City Center, and a nice apprentice position someplace, and no more adventures. Just ice wine, and arcane tomes, and no more excitement. Eh, Squork?" The bird cawed an ambiguous reply.
Morning: (HPs above reflect night of rest, 1 HP/level for 8 hours rest)
Bohdi studied his spellbook and picked out his spells for the day with his usual charm. "Going to prepare what we need to get us off of this miserable mountain alive. Any objections, tell me now!"
Aiden (AC 16 HP 4/11) Thursday March 24th, 2005 9:08:23 PM
Aiden continued to follow all the way back until the cave. Quietly, he had been observing the others as they all had made the trek back to the cave with the ghosts. He still could not understand how they could be so comfortable with spirits....
However, Nauthiz, the other ranger who had worked by his side offered his hand and thanks. Looking up, Aiden's voice was marked by non-chalance, "It is what is expected of band brothers. Bohdi...Garrett...your sister, we all would have done the same as it is expected."
Pushing himself off of the ground, he looked at the hand for a moment, and then firmly clasped it. "We shall return together...and become known as men to your village."
Then he heard the gnome address them, his lips breaking into a wry smile. "I did not see you try to talk to negociate with them either Bohdi...but you are correct, we must be as cold as the touch of ice when we face our enemies, just as they were."
After listening to the final piece of the gnome's exasperated response about getting an apprenticeship. "And you'd rather face book and not polar wyrms? Worry more of clutter than cubs?" as he scritched the wolf pup's head behind the ears. "If it be your wish, then the best of luck for you, but civilization holds little for me..." His eyes become a bit fiercer, "I have other things to address before I rest and take a wife and apprentice, becoming soft like the mush that is fed to babes."
Dawning Day [DM Post] Friday March 25th, 2005 1:31:32 PM
The morning breaks and the group gathers the gear together and prepares to head out into the crisp air and head towards home.
The day is again cold, though not so much as when the group journeyed to Burfell. The continued descent is successful and soon the five companions arrive where Skalti elected to stay. A decision that cost the young bard and his companion thier lives. Now half buried in fresh snow, the two are frozen in a last embrace for comfort and warmth. A grim reminder of what can happen to any who traverse the tundra without enough knowledge and or respect for where they tread.
Bohdi Nackle Friday March 25th, 2005 2:03:05 PM Bohdi cast Endure Elements on himself before setting out.
Bohdi stood next to the frozen corpses of Skalti and Yodel mutely. They were companions for only a short time, but companions nonetheless. He shook his head disconsolately. He peered up at Garrett.
"Should we say something? I mean--isn't there something that you should say, at a time like this?"
He looked back at their fallen friends. "I wish we didn't have to just leave them here like this, but I can't begin to imagine what it would take to bury them. Besides, we have to keep moving or we could end up like them. And, I hate to say it, but--" he looked at the others-- "We should take what gear they had, too, at least, that what's useful. We're going to need it back out on the ice fields."
After bowing his head in respect and placing a hand solemnly on the bodies, the gnome slowly began peeling back frozen furs and leather to search for what items were salvageable from the bodies.
Aiden d20=7 Sunday March 27th, 2005 6:35:25 PM
Aiden looked at the gnome even as Bohdi had spoken empassioned to the others.
"Nothing to say Bohdi as he knew well the dangers..." It was a rather fatalistic from the somewhat Darwinistic ranger. They had tried to help him in what ways they could, but he had come unprepared and ignorant of the frozen tundra.
Survival : 7+4 = 11...to try and figure out how long they had before things REALLY got cold.
Nauthiz'Ull d20=5 Sunday March 27th, 2005 10:20:09 PM
As the group came upon Skalti, a sadness crept upon him.
"Skalti knew the dangers all right. My sympathies would be with his family, but not with him. Poor Yodel though. Look at this animal. Rather nice specimen too, but wasted."
Nauth decides this is the time to let his pup out and run free in the snow. He watches as Bohdi rumages for "usefull" stuff and begins looking for any tracks that may be present. He also makes sure to nudge Friga so that she does not stare at Skalti for too long. ============== Survival=5+7=12 (tracks)
Frigg'Isa (sub-Drew) d20=3 Sunday March 27th, 2005 10:24:20 PM
The frozen mass of Skalti and Yodel is at first a bit frightening to the youung girl, but after a couple moments of staring, the scene becomes hauntingly beautiful. Preservation at it's most primal.
"Poor child. Poor animal."
The unproven-witch keeps most of her thoughts to herself and snaps out of the trance she is in when her older, handsome, strapping brother nudges her. She makes sure to return the nudge with a pinch on the arm.
After giving Nauth a stare that he could not mistake as a warning to try her a gan, she bundles up her furs some more and looks to the skies for information. ============ survival=12=3+9 (predcit weather)
Return to the Ants (DM Post) Monday March 28th, 2005 10:16:36 AM
When the two crossed to Garguls realm is hard to say, that they went peacefully and in each others company is assuredly so.
Frigga is unable to say what the grey clouds may yield this day, only that the cold wind of the Ice Vien is building, but all know this day and journey to be a cold one.
Garret casts Endure elements on himself and Nauth as it is apparent the cloaks and furs the group wears will not satve off the cold completely. Garret merely shakes his head at the sight of Yodel and Skalti.
The pups take a quick frolic and play with each other in the snow for a short time. Then each returns to Aiden and Nauth seeeking to warm themselves.
Bohdi is unable to seperate the clinging pair nor any possessions save the the young bards lute. One string remains frozen to his hand as the lute is pried from him, as if even in death he desires the feel of the instrument in his hand.
The group presses on towards the Ice spikes and possible shelter from the building wind 4 hours walk.
Aiden d20=17 Monday March 28th, 2005 1:35:14 PM
Aiden smiled as he saw the pups enjoy the winter. They were enjoying a fresh and happy beginning which he had lacked with the village of Twin Tusks. For those watching, they could see his demeanor sour as he did NOT have pleasant memories while growing up.
"It was a good try..." Aiden spoke to Bohdi, who was showing a definite level of survivalist mentality (stripping the dead corpse). "But we should ready ourselves now...Bohdi, I think you should cast your spell upon yourself and Frigga to protect you from the cold." Aiden's voice was calm even as he gave the suggestion to the gnome.
survival: 17 + winter gear (5) + 4 = 26
Bohdi Nackle Monday March 28th, 2005 3:22:58 PM
"My spell?" Bohdi echoed. "I think you must have a little too much fur over your ears, big fella. Either that, or you lost a little too much blood back on Burfell. Remember? I told you this morning: I only prepared one Endure Elements spell today, and I cast it on myself before we set out. Of course, Frigg over there is more than capable of casting her spell on herself, and Garrett already cast his two spells, one on himself and one on Nauthiz'Ull, and that leaves ...."
The gnome trailed off and looked back at the pale, drained form of the tall ranger. "Um, Garrett?" the gnome asked in a quieter voice. "Is there any way that Domi might see his way clear to healing up our friend Aiden a bit more before we press on? If he develops more frostbite out here, I'm afraid we're going to end up with another human popsicle on our hands."
The gnome took his usual place in the marching order as the group descended the slopes of the foothills in the direction of the ice spikes. He appeared nervous as they approached the ice ants' home. "Can't we camp someplace else?" he complained. "Do we really need to see those six-legged monstrosities again? And, besides--did anyone bring their blasted flowers, anyway? I vote to just press on. Who's with me?"
Aiden Monday March 28th, 2005 5:24:48 PM
Aiden shook his head, "I do not keep track of who casts what enchantment Bohdi..." he reached down and picked up some snow, "this I know" and then rustling the pup on the back of the head, "or this, but I don't ken whatever magicks you, Frigga, or the priest can conjure forth..."
and personally, Aiden also thought, ~or care.~
"But we are honor bound to see the ice ants as they offered us shelter from the storm" the steam from his breath arising from his mouth as he spoke further, his eyes clearly dictating his opinion, "it is proper..."

Garrett Monday March 28th, 2005 8:27:46 PM
(OOC. sorry all, been unusually busy lately.)
After sadly shaking his head at the frozen forms of skalti and his mule, Garrett continues on with the group.
"The best I can do for you Aiden is a couple of cure minors. The endure elements wiped out my available CLW."
Garrett converts his 3 o level spells into cure minors, healing Aiden of 3 HP
Nauthiz'Ull Monday March 28th, 2005 10:25:05 PM
As the group presses on, Nauth smiles at Bohdi's complaints. He has come to unerstand that when the gnome is complaining, then they are making progress.
"Now now wunjo. As Aiden said, we are honor-bound and we must respect that. Nature helps those whom she chooses as worthy of her aid, but she also expects those to help her when she asks. The great Ull'Heimdall taught me that."
The skinny boy watches as the huge-pawed pup runs up to him for warmth and shakes his head.
"Sorry little one, you are on your own for a bit longer. You need to strengthen your legs a bit."
Nauth pets the wolf and wipes off any ice/snow from its furs. After looking into the furball's eyes, he frowns and scratches it.
"We realy should get to the shelter though. Youu never know when another storm is going ot try and break out."
Frigg'isa Monday March 28th, 2005 10:30:32 PM
The young girl looks upon the group with neutral eyes. She chants a few words that are no more than whispers of the wind and a warming sensation crosses over her body.
"I agree, we have a bit of a hike ahead of us, and we could use the shelter."
After speaking, the caramel skinned girl walks past Bohdi and ruffles his hair.
"You would make great strides in life if you spent more time being productive than complaining about the works that makes one productive wunjo."
Frigg'Isa ooc Monday March 28th, 2005 10:31:21 PM
Sorry, I (Drew) am still subbing and Friga cast endure elements upon herself.
Sheltered Night [DM Post] Tuesday March 29th, 2005 1:17:38 PM
The group makes way to the ice spikes and the journey proves to be a quick one. Soon enough the spikes are reached. As you approach a single ant emerges and climbs down the crystalline cone, stopping at the bottom.
A wind stirs some loose snow about the ground before suddenly whisking it away in a gust. The ant makes no further moves nor is there any communication as last time.
The day is only halfway through and it may be possible to make the wolf den by night fall.
Bohdi Nackle Tuesday March 29th, 2005 2:32:07 PM
Bohdi was suddenly reminded that no one had ever seen an ice ant attack a humanoid ... and lived to tell about it. That quiet thumping noise from the middle of the group was the sound of two gnomish knees knocking. Squork, too, didn't look too pleased at the sight of another outsize arthropod.
"Can we just dump those blasted flowers and get out of here?" he asked quietly, but he made no sudden moves--apart from his knees buckling, of course.
Nauthiz'Ull Tuesday March 29th, 2005 4:41:11 PM
Looking with his wunjos, the ranger keeps a trained eye on the emerging ant.
"Well, only one of us needs to drop the flowers off. I will do it if no one else wishes to do it. It matters naught to me as Mother Nature will keep me safe."
The dark-skinned boy will grab whatever flowers they have and make a steady, cautious attempt at walking a straight and humble line towards the lone ant.
As he approaches the ant, he tries to establish communication with the ants again.
DM Highlight to display spoiler: {[i]Dear friends of the earth. We have returned with what we have promised you. The flowers from Burfell, save the one that we must bring back to our home. Weird things have happened during out travels and we thank you for giving us shelter during what surely would have been a fatal storm for us. May I ask as to the meaning of what youu said to us during our former visit?}
Frigg'Isa (sub-Drew) Tuesday March 29th, 2005 4:45:29 PM
With eyes trained on the packed snow and ice underfoot, it takes a minute for the young girl to notice the ant standing at the base of the spike.
When her big, older, handsome and fearlessly brave brother offers to take the flowers she reaches for his arm on instinct.
"Nauth, youu be carefull. I know Ull'heimdall's words echo in your heart, but you are not him...not yet. Your training is great but caution must be took brother."
The apprentice witch gathers what flowers taht she may have form the alpine meadow and hands htem to Nauth.
That's a bit thick drew don't ya think DM comment
Garrett Tuesday March 29th, 2005 8:01:45 PM
"I shall go with you Nauth."
Garrett moves forward with Nauth, Shield out, but sword sheathed.
Aiden Tuesday March 29th, 2005 10:21:24 PM
Aiden stepped up to Nauth and looked directly at him.
"You stay..." as his eyes moved back towards Frigga to emphasize why Aiden believed that Nauthiz should remain behind.
(NOW for some conditionals: He'll take the flowers, if Nauthiz defers, and move towards the spikes.
If Garrett follows him, Aiden turns and suggests, "Two against a hive...the thought is solid, but the numbers would overwhelm. It is better for you to stay behind and complete the task if I do not return..."
Nauthiz'Ull (2nd post...ohh I'm telling!) Wednesday March 30th, 2005 11:16:05 AM
As the brother ranger interjects on Nauth's plan, the dark-skinned boy catches the glance at Friga and understands Aiden's meaning.
"Aiden, do not let yourself be fooled. You are a kind person with a big heart. You are quite unlike the people you have come from, and I for one am glad that you are with us."
The lanky boy hands over the flowers to Aiden and returns to his sisters side. As he stands shoulder to shoulder with Friga, he leans his head over and rests it on the top of hers.
Press to the Cave [DM Post] Wednesday March 30th, 2005 1:13:35 PM
The flowers are dropped near the ant, it makes no move until Aiden backs off. The ant, then moves quickly in and collects them, scurrying up the spike and into a hole. No communication is ever given.
Lacking much else to do, the group presses towards the old wolf den. The temperatures drop through the day, but none seem overly worse for wear. The den is a welcomed respit as teh group approaches. The snow shows no sign of tracks and the group carefully approaches to find it still uninhabited.
This is the last shelter for the next couple days until Ice Peak is reached. Long barren tundra is all that seperates the group from home, but that tundra is a challenge in of itself and from the look of the day as it waned to twighlight, promises to be bitterly cold.
Garrett Wednesday March 30th, 2005 1:56:35 PM
Garrett continues on through the cold, until the den is reached. A smile crosses his face as it becomes apparent it is uninhabited.
"Well, a good nights rest before the open journey home. I'll get some fuel for a fire."
Garrett moves out and begins to try and collect what kindling/fuel he can find in order to have a fire for a bit. Assuming we didn't collect it all last time we were here.
In the morning Garrett will pray for the following spells:
Bohdi Nackle (HP 6/7) Wednesday March 30th, 2005 2:58:51 PM
"Good night's -- hmmph!" the gnome muttered to himself. "Sleeping in a hole in the ground in the middle of the wilderness, as warm as a meat locker, and we're supposed to get a 'good night's rest'? Where did these people grow up, anyway--some barbaric igloo?"
Squork cawed and nodded. "Hush, you," the gnome scolded.
Bohdi pulled out the nearly empty bottle of ice wine and hoisted it to the group. "To Skalti," he announced. "His song will forever be in our hearts." The gnome brought the bottle to his lips and paused a moment, his eyes growing distant, before swallowing the last of the icy vintage.
He regarded the bottle for another moment, before rummaging in his pack. Emerging a moment later with a sheet of parchment, a quill, and a ink vial, the gnome dipped and wrote in neat, clear letters on the page:
Placed here in memory of Skalti and Yodel Brave companions They fought with wolves and dreamt with ants Before the Vein claimed them May their embrace last for eternity In Memoriam, Garrett, Aiden, Nauthiz'Ull, Frigg'Isa, Bohdi and Squork
He offered the quill to his companions to sign below their names before blowing on the parchment to dry the ink. Then, carefully rolling the page, he inserted it into the empty bottle, replaced the cork, and leaned the bottle against the side of the den. Bohdi rummaged through his pack again for a moment before emerging with Skalti's broken lute, which he placed at the base of the bottle.
Without another word, Bohdi took his watch before curling up in his blankets for the night.
In the morning, Bohdi prepared his spells. "No one's going to be a martyr this time," he announced, his eyes fixed on Aiden. "Garrett's getting his spells for the elements ready, and so am I--and we're all getting one."
Proposed Spell list: Level 0: Detect Magic, Light, Acid Splash Gnome abilities: Ghost Sound, Dancing Lights, Prestidigitation, Speak with Burrowing Mammals Level 1: Color Spray, Endure Elements (2x)
Aiden Wednesday March 30th, 2005 9:56:34 PM
Aiden had thought nothing of what Nauthiz' thanks. Other, than giving a slight nod of the head as acknowledgement, he did little else. There wasn't anything he could say.
It was, quite simply, logic. Or at least that was how Aiden was explaining to himself why he volunteered to drop off the flowers to the ants.
The day's travel wasn't as harsh as it had been the first time. Aiden continued his silent lead on the path back towards Ice Peaks. This was more his home, the wilderness, than Twin Tusks, or Ice Peak. Nonetheless he had a task that he HAD to accomplish. Failure to do so, to become an adult, would be unforgivable. He would rather kill himself than to return to the camp unsuccessful.
During the trek, he continued to help let the wolf pup move and act on his/her own. The endurance and natural instincts needed to be encouraged. Perhaps he could speak with an elder about how to help the pup...and then mentally frowned on that idea. Nauthiz' probably thought of such things, and it would be better for him to approach an elder, than the relative stranger that Aiden considered himself.
(OOC: did we ever determine the gender of the wolf? If not, could I request female?)
When they had reached the wolf's den, Aiden made sure to silently scout it out, to make sure nothing else had decided to lair within it while they were away.
Quietly, he went about his business to help prepare for the evening. He did eye the gnome's strange scribbles that he wrote down on the parchment.
(OOC: is this a literate society? I wasn't sure if I should assume that Aiden can read and write.)
He seemed to be quite hesitant when Bohdi came up to him with the strange feather that he had been using to make his words.
(OOC: going to hold off until I find out a bit more about literacy in this society...and Twin Tusks)
Aiden (completing post) Thursday March 31st, 2005 1:40:27 PM
Aiden then took the quill, his hands seemingly quite clumsy with it, and puts it down onto the parchment. His writing is quite sloppy even though he took great care (and time) in writing his name.
"there...."
Return across the Tundra [DM Post] Thursday March 31st, 2005 3:23:10 PM
The den is warmed by fire, remeberances are had and the temperature outside plunges through the twighlight darkening. The four friends are secure and safe from this however and the darkening twighlight eventually ebbs to the brightening day.
The Cold on this day steals your breath and tears at any exposed skin. The spells of protection seem to take an eternity to cast. Prepared for the journey and protected from the cold the last stretch towards home begins.
The sky is clear like an endless carpet of blue it loms above you. The air is astonishing as it enters lungs and if it were not for the protection of the Enduring spell, one could almost believe your lungs would freeze from the drawing of breath. The two wolf pups crawl deep into the fur and even still a shake can be felt now and again.
The wind is mercifully absent this day and good tracks are made towards Ice Peak. after several hours the group rests and while not on teh exact smame path line they departed teh Village from, Aiden and Nauth know they are headed in teh right direction. If the good weather continues to hold they may even make the village by this time tomorrow.
The all too short break is over and the group pushes on. Soon, they come across another grissly reminder of life and death on the tundra of Ice Vein. The wind and storms of a few days ago has uncovered a trio of travelers still half buried. The extreme cold has preserved the bodies and it is impossible to determine how long ago they may have fallen, but there are no signs of external injury.
The three are dressed for the weather and are also armed and apparently armored.
Bohdi Nackle Thursday March 31st, 2005 4:36:01 PM
"... Dressed for the weather, but apparently not prepared for it," the gnome said, completing the thought that was on all of his companions' minds. Bohdi's breath clouded in front of him and he hugged his sides for warmth; even through the endure elements spell that he had cast on himself (sibling to the one he had cast on Aiden, under the ranger's vehement protest), the cold still bit and gnawed at his skin. He was protected from the cold, but no one had said anything about being comfortable in it.
"Brrrr," the gnome shivered. "Poor bastards. Well, shall we take a quick look and see who they were, and if they had anything worth, y'know, preserving? Most likely frozen stiff like Skalti was, anyway." Bohdi conducted a search of the bodies, taking as much time as the searing cold would permit (take 20). Out of extra caution, his now-familiar rune burst into evidence before his eyes as he scanned for the presence of magic (cast: detect magic).
Spell list: Level 0: Detect Magic (cast), Light, Acid Splash Gnome abilities: Ghost Sound, Dancing Lights, Prestidigitation, Speak with Burrowing Mammals Level 1: Color Spray, Endure Elements (2x) (cast one on self, one on Aiden)
Aiden Thursday March 31st, 2005 10:07:14 PM
Aiden eyed the trio that were partially buried in the snow. He tried to see whether they had been outside during the thunder-rocks (from which the group had taken shelter with the ants), or if it was from the cold, that had caused the deaths.
Again, he waited for Bohdi to view the corpses. True, as a ranger, he had learned some time ago, that to survive one has to use whatever was available.
He just didn't feel comfortable taking from beings that he hadn't killed, ie the hunter taking only that which he hunted (or gathered).

Garrett Friday April 1st, 2005 12:03:38 PM
"It appears the tundra takes it's toll on many travelers. Anyone recognize any of them?"
Garrett takes a look at the faces trying to see if he recognizes anyone from our village, while Bohdi searches the bodies.
Garrett says a pray for their passing as Bohdi concludes his search
Hidden Cache [DM Post] Friday April 1st, 2005 5:39:41 PM
The group spends a moment in silence, and then the practical nature of all who live in the Vien asserts itself upon thier wills.
At first there seems to be little remarkable about the three frozen men, but the more careful scrunity reveals much more. Not only more information on how they may have died but why they were in the tundra to begin with.
Like a delicate sculpture in the sun, layer upon layer of hoar and snow is peeled back upon the three. They were young, almost as young as the group that now stands before them. Closer inspection shows that what appeared as appropriate atire for the Ice Vein was inadaquate. All wear heavy fur cloaks over thier armor and travelling gear, but none wear the many layers that is required. These men never stood a chance and were definately strangers to the land.
Several bear strange marks upon thier face, as if painted in some strange language. the symbols are duplicated in a few pieces of art and on the inside of a small shield. And this seems to have been carved after the shield was crafted.
Bohdi continues using a practiced still hand and his magic as Aiden and Garret look on. Nauth and Frigg keep watch outwards, more than 1 beast that prowls the tundra, lies close in wait to what might draw prey of curiosity.
Under the wrapped furs one has a weapon, a beautiful curved blade, still in hand and caked in ice and apparent blood. His studded leather armor, hardned by cold but still apparently intact. As he is fully uncovered, it appears he was on watch and succumbed and fell where he stood that night.
Another lies curled in the last throes of death unpleasant, not the calm that the cold often brings. As the ice is cracked and shattered about his form, that death becomes more apparent. His midsection has a fist sized exit hole near his navel, as if something chewed its way out. Clutched in his hand may have been his last desperate thought, a small wax stoppoered terra cota flask. A light glow emmenates from this strange container to the sight of Bohdi.
The third man wears a steel breastplate under his cloak with has been all but rendered useless from the elements of time long forgotten, but several other possessions seem to have been preserved well. Namely a dual quarrel case of crossbow bolts and 2 more strange terra cotta containers. Both of which radiate magic to Bohdi. This man seems to have succumbed to a possible previous encounter. Small but deep claw marks are evident on his face and his left arm if whithered beyond what the cold of Ice Vein would inflict upon a man.
In all it takes several hours to extract the following items: MW Scimitar MW Studded Leather Armour steel mirror Terra Cotta container Faint Conjuration Terra Cotta container Faint Transmutation 50 masterwork crossbow bolts Terra Cotta container Faint Conjuration (in the one man's grasp)
DM Note If these items seem familiar it's cause they are lotto winnings of Bohdi and Nauth. Bohdi's are the last two. yes there has been more won than this and we will be intro'ing those items. If anyone hates this idea to hand them out or if no one wants this message to help suspend belief in the finding of some treasures please let Justin and I know. There will be a saturday post.
Nauthiz'Ull Friday April 1st, 2005 6:22:02 PM
The ranger has maintained a silence since the last meeting of the ants. His demeanor seems more introverted and deep in pondernment.
Upon reaching the corpses, Nauth watches the nimble-fingered gnome work his magic and strip away what is valuable. There are a couple of things that instantly catch the young one's eye.
He picks up the beautiful curved blade and a tear breaks from his eye, only to be frozen on his cheek.
"My father...our father, Ull'Heimdall carried a blade shaped like this. This is not his, I know, but I remember staring at that blade as if it were made on a different plane. The shape is unique, and deadly efficient."
Nauth looks at his sister with eyes that seem to show both a sense of want and a burning need to have a blade like this. The others, too, pick up on the look.
"This armour here, with the metal studs. Who will it fit? That, which it fits, should be the person who owns it."
Frigg'Isa (sub-Drew) d20=10 d20=20 Friday April 1st, 2005 6:26:46 PM
The girl walks step-to-step with her long-legged brother and the cold teeths on her bones. Slight blue lips show that if her magic had not been sent upon her, her skin wouuld be black with frostbite.
As the group reaches the corpses, Friga hangs her head at the sight of the dead bodies.
"What could have happened to them. Look at the marks and the wound in this one's body. The cold was not the only thing that got to these kids." =============== Survival-19-predict weather for tomorrow Know:Ice Vein-25(?) NAT 20! Regardless ( i do not have the CS' in front of me atm...sorry) to see if she can recallw hat may be in these aprts that would have caused these wounds)
Garrett Saturday April 2nd, 2005 1:15:31 PM
"I have no use for that blade, or the armor. As far as I am concerned, the blade is yours Nauth, and the armor belongs to whoever it fits, that wants it. Either way, we should pack it all up and get moving again. We have used much of our daylight here. We can sort out these things with the others that we have found once the darkness has fallen and we can travel no more."
Aiden Sunday April 3rd, 2005 3:14:46 PM
Aiden kept quiet as the spoils were divided amongst the group. He did eye the studded leather, but was not completely sure that it would fit his long frame.
The jars looked awkward, and he awaited the others to remark upon them, and whatever was not taken by the others, he would carry.
"I agree with Garrett...we should move soon..." and then he finished with, "You did well Bohdi..."

Ice Peak Village [DM Post] Monday April 4th, 2005 12:24:10 PM
The group takes the items they can, the armor may be able to be modified to fit Aiden, but daylight is being burned fast and it is decided to discuss further these things as the 5 companions camp.
A few more miles are made towards home when a path crossing perpendicular to your route is found. A fairly fresh trail blazed in the light snow. It extends horizon to horizon and is about 15' wide.
Survival DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {Wolf tracks heading East maybe two days ago. At least 20 strong. Highly irregular but not unheard of} Survival DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: {10 Winiter wolves leading at least 40 regular wolves. completely beyond history. Never do so many wolves travel together}
Camp is made a few miles past the track and it is estimated that by noon tomorrow the group will be home. The night is clear, clearer than it should be for this time of year and temperatures drop even more, to virtually unfathomable levels. The Spell is on the verge of breaking under the onslaught. Numbness to limbs and face begins to creep through its protection. The normal rolling cloud of an exhale, practically falls as crystal as it leaves you. Aiden and Nauth will get no sleep this Twighlight, as they employ every trick they know keep the others warm, the casters must be allowed to sleep or the morning will find them as the three from earlier that day.
Snow cracks like shattering glass under thier feet and the Twighlight deepens. Relentless, the Cold still comes and the temperature falls. Is it truly darkening, or has the cold stareted to effect judgement and skill to the two desperate boys. Can either be sure of thier actions now? There is no choice, they push themselves and each other, to sit or take a break now could easily spell death.
But, then the Twighight begins to brighten. The air warms as the sun climbs steadily higher, a new day, another chance and the gates of home would be thiers soon.
Bohdi Nackle Monday April 4th, 2005 1:52:44 PM

Nauthiz'Ull d20+7=27 d20+7=19 Monday April 4th, 2005 10:19:06 PM
The young boy knows that home is soon upon them, and at the same time he looks upon and stops at a massive line of tracks. Kneeling down, the young ranger's eye proves incredibly attuned to the tracks in the snow.
"This is wrong. All wrong. Aiden, have you ever seen this before? Why would so many wolves be together like this?"
The young boy with darkened, almost frostbitten skin looks upon the others for anything that may help with his questions.
"When are we supposed to be back to the village? This might prove to be an occurence of the first time in history."
The boy stares westward witht he tracks, a sense of longing deeply seeded in his eyes. =============== Survival-27 NAT 20! Survival-19 still damn good!
Frigg'Isa d20+9=23 Tuesday April 5th, 2005 1:54:07 AM
Frigg'Isa kneels down next to her brother to examine the tracks.
"Nauth, that is a lot of wolves. Look there, see the Winter Wolf tracks. There has to be around 10 just of them, plus a lot of other wolves, too."
She stands up and brushes the snow and ice from her knees.
"I think we need to hurry back to the village as quickly as we can and tell them about this. This is just unheard of!"

Before he prays for spells in the morning, Garrett converts his 0 level spells to cure minor, healing 3 hp upon himself.
After praying for new spells, Garrett will offer minor healing to anyone still injured.
"Anyone still injured? I can assist a little"
Aiden d20=5 d20=8 Tuesday April 5th, 2005 12:25:57 PM
Aiden gave a small nod of acknowledgement to Garrett, not only in thanks for the thanks for covering during the evening, but also that he was still hurt. The bandages were crusted with dried/frozen blood from the wounds he had the prior day. But from the circles underneathe his eyes as well as the wounds he had carried still, it was going to be a difficult journey.
But he refused to utter a complaint...
(OOC: figure staying up all night as well as being at 4 out of 11 hp's (basically he's at a third of his normal hp) would basically show on Aiden physically the next day).
Wiping his dry eyes, Aiden tried to examine the tracks, but found that the knowledge was not forthcoming. Perhaps it was due to weariness/exhaustion or inexperience.
Survival roll on tracks: 9
Even as the others spoke to him about the wolf tracks, he tried to refocus and study them again. His fingers touching the edges of the tracks, slowly examining the area.
(some sort of concentration to focus in on the tracks and 'see' what the others are seeing): 8 + 2 (high stat I believe, though I don't have the skill (if memory serves correctly)).
Ice Peak Village Tuesday April 5th, 2005 2:53:25 PM
Wearey, cold and with more tales and puzzles than any so young should have the five companions trudge towards home. The mystery of the wolves and why so many were joining together and moving east must be shared with the elders and Karya.
The sun shines brighlty this day, and the dwellers of the frigid ice lands know instictively to pull thier headwraps lower and drop thier gaze from the horizon. Instict to move in a straight line is now thier compass. To gaze into the blinding reflection of snow and ice on such a day could cause permanent damage.
The suns devastating unfiltered power tears into the snow and ice all about the land and just as quickly the omnipresent cold freezes the melt into a polished reflecting surface. Adding the more unusual problem of feeling to hot, though the prodigy of this land know this to be mere illusion and deception. Today is clear, the season early and like the night before cold. The removal of pelt layers is practical suicide, in the later long summers yes, the suns warm shows true, but not now. The cold would have fingers and limbs in seconds and by the time one acknowlegded their mistake their limbs would be worthless to don the furs again. All have heard many tales and know that one of the most dangerous times of the year is early Kelda.
Soon the gates of Ice Peak are reached. As they are approached the gates are thrown open wide and the drums of celebration can be heard Boom, thoom, boom b-bboom
The group enters and people begin emerging from their blubber, hide and fur lined houses. A chant and cries rising from thier throats, arms thrusting into the air Sigr! Sigr!
The smell of cooking meat whaffs through on a rare breeze this day. and you hear a call for the feast to begin and for Kayra to come forth from her fast and watch.
Garrett Tuesday April 5th, 2005 3:38:16 PM
(Garrett healed Aiden of 3 hp that morning. Aidens total should be higher because of natural healing, and that I had already healed him for 3 after the battle (march 28th post))
Garrett joins in the celebration and is most pleased to be back home. His concerns over what they had seen and been a part of in the waking dream would wait. A better time would soon be here to discuss all.
"Frigg, don't forget the delivery to the girls mom. That should not wait." Garrett moves next to Frigg'Isa "I'll go with you."
Bohdi Nackle Tuesday April 5th, 2005 4:23:00 PM
Bohdi marched with grim determination into the heart of the village along with the others. "Oh, those bloody drums again," he muttered. But at the corners of his mouth, a pleased smile began to creep upward at the sight of the villagers with their upraised arms, and he began, in spite of himself, to acknowledge their chants and cheers with waves and nods of his head.
He gripped his stomach and his mouth watered involuntarily at the smells of food cooking to prepare for a feast. "They bloody well better have ice wine to go with that food. I should check with the cooks--they'll be wanting a bit of magic to spice that awful meat of theirs, no doubt."
He turned to the others with a smile. "Well done, lads and lass. I'll be dropping this gear off at my tent first. What say we meet back at the village center in a bit?"
Nauthiz'Ull Tuesday April 5th, 2005 9:54:35 PM As they are approached the gates are thrown open wide and the drums of celebration can be heard Boom, thoom, boom b-bboom
A feeling of pride begins to gnaw at the young ranger's soul. As the group enters through the gate, Nauth puffs up his chest as much as his exhausted body will allow, and keep his head held high.
Ull'Heimdall, you have guided my journeys successfuly. I thank you great father, for your eyes, your actions and your spirit. I thank you great father for you protection of my sister, your daughter, Frigg'Isa as well.
As Garrett approaches Friga, Nauth watches intently and then pulls him aside before the two leave.
"Garrett, look out for Da'Gral will you? He is not to talk to my sister. If he has something to say, he can come talk to me...tomorrow."
Aiden d20=15 d20=4 d20=7 Tuesday April 5th, 2005 10:33:25 PM
(OOC: actually I would think the natural healing is if Aiden rested. He was on guard/survival duty the prior night, so I figured he got nothing there. Though I wouldn't mind being overruled there by a gm)
Aiden's stomache growled, hungering for the fine victory feast. Ironic how the two villages, so different in outlook, celebrated with loud drums and feasts.
~perhaps there may be some wenching...~ Aiden thought to himself, a small smile creeping on his face. ~no...probably they do not...~ as a small part of him was slightly disappointed at that.
Looking towards the others, Aiden's face showed a strong seriousness. "I will rejoin you later...there is a task that I must complete" His voice was clear and direct, and was ABSOLUTELY not up for argument.
As he let the others enter for their just rewards, Aiden quietly does not enter the 'town'. Instead, he stealthily begins to move to the side, to a remote (and very quiet) area where there was a small sappling.
The wolf pup seemed quite excited by this, ~I must make something for her to chew on to make her teeth stronger...I will from the spoils our first hunt together..."
Kneeling down, he brushes off the snow from a small mound that was there, revealing some stones that had been laid there.
Quietly, he spoke, "Master...I have done it..." as he thinks back to the old man who had defeated him in battle sometime ago, and helped him become a man.
A small packet was taken from his pocket, one which he had hidden from the others as he had been gathering the flowers. Carefully he dug away at the dirt and earth, a difficult task considering the frozen aspect of the ground. Slowly, he pulled away the damp (sweat covered)cloth and put down the seeds as well as a plant that he had taken from his journey.
"As I promised Master..." he said with pride, "something from my first journey. I hope to fill your rest with more..." as he worked to transfer the plant.
Knowledge (nature): 7 + 3 = 10 to help out in the transplant including some partial cover to prevent the wind or the snow from hurting the plant as it starts its growth.
Rolled an 18 for a move silent, and a 7 for a hide.
Frigg'Isa Wednesday April 6th, 2005 1:00:55 PM
The tall girl nods at Garrett's words.
"We'll talk to Kayra as soon as we can and find out who she is. I want to present the old flower along with our own."
Frigg'Isa moves through the village, her head held just a bit higher than she normally would. Something about this homecoming rings throughout her. She keeps her eyes peeled for Mjolka'Frodr hoping to see her before the ceremony.
Justin Webber (Co-DM) Celebration Wednesday April 6th, 2005 11:06:43 PM
(OOC:Dum-duh-dum-dum-dum! I'm back everyone, fresh from my DM vacation and ready to get back into the grove of things again.)
Most of everyone moves to do the seperate things when they first enter the village. The drums beating a beat that makes each of your hearts beam with happiness and pride at coming back alive. Even the wind has settled as if it is saluting you also.
Before any of you can get to far away though Karya approaches you and speaks gently to each of you and even gives each returning man and woman since you are now all adults a warm and firm hug, "Welcome back from the grip of the frozen Celsiun. You are all adults now in everyones eyes. Now is not the time for the real welcome, you must all go and prepare for the celebration and take the few moments to bury your childhoods and prepare to take your first steps as adults. We can talk later in private."
Karya's hard and yet soft eyes look over each of you with pride as she holds up her arms to the sky and calls out to everyone, "Our youth return as adults this day, they have seen the frozen realm they live in, they have come back with the scars and memories that we adults all share. The ice, winds and storms have hardened their muscles and bodies and they have shown they are strong enough and one with the land or they would not of survived. The land and we all see them as adults from this day forward."
Karya allows you all to go about preparing and tells you all to meet at the feast tent for the true celebration and the very final adult test of sorts.
Back at his tent and among his own things for the first time in days, Bohdi sighed with relief. He unshouldered his pack, put down his weapons, and collapsed onto the cot. "Never thought I'd be happy to see this hut again," he murmured.
Bohdi lit a fire to warm the hut, then settled in with the things that he had found on the bodies on the last march. He set the crossbow bolts aside--he knew what those were. But what about that container that emanated magic? Bohdi took a closer look, casting spells as needed.
ooc: Bunch o' rolls (all trained) depending on what applies: Appraise 19, Know arcana 24, Craft Alchemy 13, Spellcraft 20. Bohdi can cast Detect Magic and/or Read Magic, as necessary.
Afterward, Bohdi poked his head in on the cooking tents to see if his culinary assistance was required, before returning to the village center, ready for the ceremony.
Spell list: Level 0: Detect Magic (x2), Read Magic Gnome abilities: Ghost Sound, Dancing Lights, Prestidigitation, Speak with Burrowing Mammals Level 1: Color Spray, Endure Elements (2x) (cast one on self, one on Aiden)
DM POST. Identify a potion is Spellcraft DC 25. Bohdi is unable to Identify the potions
Aiden Thursday April 7th, 2005 11:59:50 PM
Aiden nodded, even as a part of him STILL felt uncomfortable deferring to a female elder. Too many years at Twin Tusks enforced a form of male supremacy, though his time at Ice Peaks had lessened it....
"Yes elder..." he responded, as he had already made some mental plans as to what tasks had yet to be completed (such as visiting his master's final resting site and what to say to his spirit).
<ooc: I wasn't sure if his visit to the gravesite would occur now, after the instructions had been given..>
Nauthiz'Ull Friday April 8th, 2005 8:56:36 AM ooc: Welcome back Justin!
The past few days have worn the young man thin. His visit to the brink of death certainly humbled him and put a few things in perspective.
He places the wolf pup on the ground and lets him stretch his legs.
"Ahh little one, may this be your new home? You will take your name soon enough, for now, Little One."
Nauth decides to head to the tent which he and Frigg'Isa share so that he may unshoulder his pack and stretch out some knots in his back.
On the way there, the dark-skinned young man stops several times to coax the pup to follow him, as he finds everything else more interesting and must smell it all.
The aromas that whaft through the air send Nauth's tastebuds into a frenzy and immediately his stomach knots and groans. It is funny how quickly one remembers what real food is like, and how horrible food on the trails can be.
After unpacking his pack, he decides to walk the village again, but before he leaves, he wraps a few items in an old cloth of his and sets it on his bed.
"We can get those later boy, and close our past."
Interlude... [DM Post] Friday April 8th, 2005 9:44:51 AM
The group disengages each other to seek a little well welcomed rest.
Bohdi has just started the warming fire and sits back with a long exhale. Never thought this mangy place would feel so welcomed. The Inner flaps balst open and the ox-like barkeep Gra'ul enters, a massive grin upon his face and a pair of ice wine bottles. "You did it my boy, I am proud this day. Tonight we start the celebration early and I will be the first to hear your tales...
Garret and Frigg'Isa move quickly through the milling villagers, there is still much to be done. Hands clap their shoulders as they pass and nothing but warm smiles are upon the faces. Finally the old woman is spotted, her weathered and shaking hands carry a tray of hot breads to a cooling rack just outside her enclosure...
Nauthiz'Ull moves at a enjoyable pace, taking in the sights, sounds and smells of home. The wolf pup needs no coaxing to remain close at hand, but seems to be highly enjoying the short run. Unpacked, but not ready to settle in, the excited lad steps back out to aquaint the wolf pup with its new home...
Aiden moves off to the site where his master and adoptive father rests and kneels for a 'private talk'. The pup plays nearby as he does so. Head bowed, Aiden replants a few things, says some last words and stands. Turning he runs straight into Fuller'Heimdall, a tower of a man in his late 60's. The everpresent massive Greataxe rests on his shoulder. "My wunjo," he begins gesturing with one hand to the grave. "My wunjo would be most proud of you this day. You were his son in deed if not name. He would be honored if you took his name tomorrow. I would be honored to call you that name tomorrow." With that, he turns and walks away. Aiden can no help but notice that even as massive as the man is, his foot falls are silent and his tracks virtually undeterminable...
Bohdi Nackle Friday April 8th, 2005 2:05:59 PM
"Boy are you a sight for sore eyes!" Bohdi exclaimed as he looked longingly at the two bottles. He looked up at Gra'ul. "It's nice to see you, too."
Bohdi pulled out a pair of stools and two wooden cups. He sniffed at the cups' stale alchemical contents, shrugged, then dumped the liquids on the floor. He handed one cup to Gra'ul while keeping the other for himself. Looking back at the bottles, Bohdi grinned wickedly. "But, now, what are you going to drink?"
Justin Webber (DM) Feast and More Saturday April 9th, 2005 12:06:19 AM
Everyone goes about doing their own thing when they first get inside the place they call home. A few have some visitors and Garret and Frig see the lady who they are suppose to return the amulet too (I will handle this on my next post if you have posted.)
After a short time a member of the village comes to get each person of the group and leads them to the feast lodge where as soon as they enter the fresh and warm food smell assaults your noses and stomach with vengence.
As you all go about getting food the people of the village raise their glasses of ice wine and it isn't long before a glass of ice wine is shoved into each of your hands. Even the young kids who's coming of age test will be in the years to come hold up glasses full of juice. Karya steps forward with her own well made bone glass raised, "To our new adults. May they serve our village and make us all proud in the years to come."
Right after the toast to the group eating begins in ernest and the group finds little time to be alone as they are assaulted by questions and alot of tell us your story comments.
The storys and talks pass for quite some time and the group may notice Karya watching and listening intently, a gleam in her eyes can easily tell the group that anything important should be saved for her ears first. Karya waits for awhile and before long a couple of the males get up to take their coming on night time watch. At this point Karya stands and makes a few gestures which quiets everyone, "The new adults must come with me, the last part of their trial is now."
Karya moves to the feast lodge's door cover and moves it and walks outside, leading the group slowly through the village to a large tent which smokes slightly at the top. This tent you all know so very little about but you all know it is something like a sweat lodge, "Enter please."
Once each member enters Karya follows and sits down on a log that is within the tent. She looks to each person before speaking and holding up a large gourd with special carvings on it and designs, "You all have become a adult today and to finish this passing of time in your life you all must take a sip from this gourd. The liquid will taste strange but you must swallow it....afterwards you must sit and wait, clear your thoughts of everything and just think of the future."
Karya smiles and to start this off and prove it is okay, she takes a drink from the gourd and passes it to Aiden first.
Aiden Saturday April 9th, 2005 9:34:20 PM
Aiden watched as the huge man moved away from him. An eyebrow raised, he silently appraised that Fuller'Heimdall could have fought his way to become the leader of Twin Tusks. But the man didn't seek that, and showed many traits that those from Twin Tusks would consider weak, and feminine.
He could only shake his head at such thoughts. Perhaps one day he shall revisit Twin Tusks, and educate them. Aiden shifted slightly as the double headed ork axe seemed to almost remind him what 'tools' would be required for such an education.
Having finished the planting, he slowly straightened himself, rising onto his feet from the kneeling position. He quietly rejoined the others within the town, and steeled himself for the next task.
He follows Karya's summons, ducking down and stepping into the feast lodge. Sinking to his knees again, Aiden leaned back, his buttucks resting on his feet.
When offered the flask (and after the explanation was given), Aiden put the flask to his lips, and with his mind wandering to other thoughts, and not even breathing through his nose, he took a strong (and quick) gulp and swallowed it.
Bohdi Nackle Sunday April 10th, 2005 11:49:40 AM
"Wayyy 'headuv ya, Kayrrra ol'gal," Bohdi slurred as he stumbled into the sweat lodge. He gulped the liquid from the gourd, wiped his lips with a sleeve, and stumbled and missed sitting down on the log, landing unceremoniously in a heap on the floor. "Sorry," he muttered, his eyes glazed.
Garrett Sunday April 10th, 2005 4:54:47 PM
Garrett takes his place and drinks as the gourd is offered.
Nauthiz'Ull Monday April 11th, 2005 12:34:34 AM
The ceremonies of the day have begun to make Nauth's head spin, but the ice wine was most likely a major contributor. Nauth waits his turn to partake in the drink from the gourd and after gulps, he looks upon his sister first and then to Kayrra as he waits for the upcoming effects.
Justin Webber (DM) Visions Monday April 11th, 2005 9:36:13 PM
(OOC:Was giving some time for Frig to post but here we go.)
Each person takes a long swallow of the funny tasting liquid and sit waiting for something to happen. The heat begins to slowly feel untolerable but Karya gives a shakes of her head "no" before you can leave. Soon you feel the world begin to wave and get shaky, the alcohol has been nullifed by the drink and then sudden each of you feel to be floating in darkness. Visions flash in your minds, visions of a ancient temple which lies off in the distance, of people from a diferent area which you all will all feel a deep need to summon to you. As the visions begin to come to a end a large dark hand appears around the temple and snaps shut around it, making it disappear from your sight.
The vision had ended just as quick and Karya herself has seen something in her vision also but not the samething clearly for she doesn't have the same look as all you have on yours.
(OOC:Daniel, if you would like to add to the vision then please do. I can't find my saved document on it.)
Bohdi Nackle Tuesday April 12th, 2005 1:09:10 PM
Bohdi looked around at the others. "What the--what was--" he looked down. "What am I doing on the bloody floor?"
He looked around some more and pouted. "And what happened to that ice wine buzz I was working on?" He narrowed his eyes suspiciously at Kayra, but said nothing, then at last, shrugged.
"Well, look, lads and lasses, it's been lovely and all, but I plan to be on the first dog-sled out of this place, thank you very much. Civilization 10, barbaric villages 0, know what I mean? And now I've done my bit, I've survived your bloody little test--lovely, really, can't say enough about it--but my bargain with the elders of Zarnan was exactly one manhood test--check!--and off you go. All these visions, and dreams, and visitations and such that you all have out here--it's all very spiritual, I'm sure, but not quite my cup, if you follow me. So, if you'll excuse me, I have some packing to attend to ...."
He stood and prepared to leave.
Kup (ooc) Tuesday April 12th, 2005 3:11:26 PM
I'm indulging in an out of character post to alert everyone here to read Jerry's message on the LnB, and which is apparently being distributed by e-mail. It seems that Lynn was killed last week in a car accident.
I am sure we all here share in the tremendous feeling of loss at this news.
Drew (ooc) Tuesday April 12th, 2005 3:53:06 PM
Justin and Dan, can we take a day of silence and have no postings on Wed? It seems a bit more appropriate for this board. .....
daniel K Tuesday April 12th, 2005 4:11:35 PM
I definately agree. No posts on this board tomorrow please.
Lynn's last post, in a way, seems very appropriate to me right now Frigg'Isa moves through the village, her head held just a bit higher than she normally would. Something about this homecoming rings throughout her.
garrett Tuesday April 12th, 2005 4:36:13 PM
OOC: words do not seem appropriate for such tragedies. My condolences to the family.
Justin Webber (Co-DM) Tuesday April 12th, 2005 4:47:00 PM
Yes, a day of silence tomorrow on this board. No one post please at all starting tomorrow morning.
I'm sorry for the games loss also of Frig and I have no words to really describe the feelings on this. As I said on the L&B, death is something I have trouble dealing with in words. However Lynn was a member of the Woldian family and a member of this family here in Ice Vein. She brought alot to the game and made posting fun for all of us I believe. I was really looking forward to seeing her character grow along with the rest of all of you guy's. An to be honest I feel abit worse do to my DM post and the ooc comment.
Aiden (and ooc) Tuesday April 12th, 2005 10:21:44 PM
ooc: my condolences to the family. I know this isn't the appropriate board, but perhaps a once a year award (best roleplayer, female barbarian...what have you) could be named in honor? Just a wierd thought...
Aiden quietly sat there, trying to determine whose hand it was that moved to impede their vision, and what temple it was that was central to the vision.
A Day of Silence - DM Donna Wednesday April 13th, 2005 1:16:05 PM
This board will now observe a day of silence in honor of Lynn Beck (and her husband Dave) who was taken away from The Wold before her time...
Justin Webber (DM) Vision Thursday April 14th, 2005 2:10:12 AM
(OOC:I thank everyone for respecting the day of silence. I figure everyone will understand this comment but it is hard to make this DM post and move on the game now. I know it should get better but for now it is terribly hard. I think Lynn is smiling right now at how much she was liked and cared for in the Wold and probably sad to at how everyone is being effected since she wasn't the type to want to make people sad. I got the idea she was a fun loving person.)
The vision has ended and everyone is either trying to place the temple, the people you felt and still feel you need to summon and also trying to leave. Everyone did get a strong sense of evil or something like it atleast from the temple.
The only one who doesn't move at this time and had received a slightly different vision, different only alittle was Frig'isa
At Bohdi's comment Karya looks to him alittle funny like and speaks up, "Why are you wanting to leave the village you have became a member of? Leaving without clan permission you do know results in a ceremony of it's own."
Karya speaks up to all now, "Please tell me everything that happened now also. This place is very seldom busy or listened in on by anyone."
Bohdi Nackle d20+8=18 Thursday April 14th, 2005 9:18:23 AM
Bohdi sputtered. "But--but--but I was told--I thought that--you wouldn't--I mean, seriously, you wouldn't ... would you?" He looked at Kayra appraisingly. "Bloody hell, she probably would, the silly bint," he muttered to himself, and promptly sat back down on the log with his arms crossed defiantly across his chest. He grumbled something about visions, spirits, ants and elf-dreams, and the assorted damnations each could take itself to, before falling broodingly silent once more.
Of course, that didn't stop Bohdi's mind from cycling, either. A trained arcanist like himself couldn't help but think about this latest vision, and compare it to what he had previously known. (Knowledge: arcana = 18)
Spell list: Level 0: Detect Magic (x2), Read Magic Gnome abilities: Ghost Sound, Dancing Lights, Prestidigitation, Speak with Burrowing Mammals Level 1: Color Spray, Endure Elements (2x) (cast one on self, one on Aiden)
Nauthiz'Ull Thursday April 14th, 2005 5:14:05 PM
The vision forced Nauth to grit his teeth. As it ended he came back to the present and looked around. As Bohdi blathered about leaving, again Nauth shook his head with a smile.
"Kayra, let me begin the tale. Wunjos, fill in where I have forgotten if you will. We set off with little trouble and the first couple of nights were pretty take, with the exception of being attacked by a couple of wolves. After robbing the wolves of their lives we slept in their den for warmth and protection. Aiden and I found the little runts that you see running around in the den and have taken them to our side. We pushed on, only to be caught up with by Skalti, rest his soul. Then we reached the Ice Spikes, but a deadly storm was upon us so we climbed down into the tunnels of the ice ants. Light kept us safe, but when it went out they started to talk to us in our heads. They told us to bring them whatever other red flowers we find and that a time will come when we will call upon them for aid. Then we climbed Burfell and spent a night in a cave on its face. We were visited by the little girl's ghost and found some things of use to us. Skalti stayed behind with Yodel and they froze to death. Then when we reached the alpine meadow, we were attacked by Tuskers. I died and my wunjos here brought me back. They died and we cam home. On the way home we dropped off the flowers to the ants, and found some corpses a couple of miles outside of town. There was also a massive ammount of wolf tracks heading west and there were some rather large timberwolves leading the pack. How did I do?"
Aiden Thursday April 14th, 2005 11:24:04 PM
Aiden listened quietly as the story was retold. "I do not believe we died...what happened to us, I do not know ...but we saw many strange things before returning to battle."
Justin Webber (Co-DM) Interesting Friday April 15th, 2005 3:38:40 AM
Karya first looks to Bohdi when he speaks and grins, a grin that tells him that she does truely enjoy how he squirms but also that she means what she says, "Ohhh dear Bohdi. You see, you become a member of our village now and have a purpose here also. To leave though you merely have to go through our gauntlet....that being just a simple walk to the exit of the village, without anything you obtained here and also between each member of the village who will have the job of hitting you with a stick as you pass." Karya just to see Bohdi squirm more grins to him, "Shall I inform everyone you wish to leave so they can get their sticks?" (OOC:Sorry Kup, couldn't resist and I know you can roll with this without taking it bad as everyone can here I believe.)
Karya sits and lists to what is said carefully as she rubs her chin in thought. Once everything is told she still sits there for abit, her face showing she is in deep thought. Finally after many moments she speaks, "I see, the spiders do not choose to do stuff easily. Something must of caused them to...a need maybe or a feeling...I highly doubt forced by anything else. Strange however that they spoke in your minds, your the first to experience this and it will need to be noted."
Karya thinks of the dream comment and leans her head to the side thinking before speaking, "This dream, what was it like? what did you see? and what did you see in your vision here? I feel that these both may be linked."
Bohdi Nackle d20+8=20 Friday April 15th, 2005 1:42:08 PM ooc: No worries, Justin. Bohdi deserves a little kicking. ; ) And Drew, and everyone else--take this post, as usual, as the PC's voice, not mine! : )
"No, no, Nauthiz'Ull, you've got the visions all wrong," Bohdi complained. His companions recognized--and perhaps dreaded?--the professorial tone that appeared in the gnome's voice. "Four bloody visions, that's what we've had--ants, ghosts, elf spirits, and now your bloody gourd. It's like we're the spirit world's bloody zoo-keeper. Here's what they were ...."
Bohdi spoke, rambling and at length, describing each vision in exacting detail. (Knowledge: Arcana to recall the visions, if it helps, is 20; Bohdi's not much by way of personality, but he does heft an INT of 18 around!) The drone of the gnome's nasal voice could drive even a stone gargoyle to distraction, but he kept plodding until each and every detail was rehearsed.
For ease of reference, I repeat here the four "visions" that the party has encountered in the past week of game-time:
Ants: "Sacrifice we see, Black snow, Red ice, Summon the Pack. We will be there when it is time. To this destiny all points are fixed. Rest well children of the end dream. You must return to us and deliver the other flowers you find."
Ghost: "a war will be brewing soon....you all will be the beginning, you'll see. It has began already with the theft, the true war will erupt with cold furry...burning spring, the grass afire, seek you the Wall. Bring the pack, Burfell awaits. You'll see... frozen death, the heart of iron."
Elf-dream: "Suddenly you become aware that there are three smaller discs approaching the bright one, also at a slow but steady pace...you realize that the bright disk must be the sun, and the others are the moons of The Wold. The three new discs align to cover the sun completely, leaving it and The Wold in darkness. But there--right in the middle of the now-black sun-disk--a pair eyes blink open, as though awakened from sleep. .... The Wold, turning in its slow, steady pace, begins to grow green. The dream ends and the personal you physically awakens with laughter still ringing in your ears."
Sweat-lodge: "Visions flash in your minds, visions of a ancient temple which lies off in the distance, of people from a diferent area which you all will all feel a deep need to summon to you. As the visions begin to come to a end a large dark hand appears around the temple and snaps shut around it, making it disappear from your sight."
Garrett Friday April 15th, 2005 8:18:57 PM
Garrett's mouth hangs open as he stares at Bohdi's recollection of the dreams. "My word, your memory is most impressive. I think you have about covered it all."
Turning to Karya, "I think that about covers it, the only thing that I would care to add is that I got the impression that the ants were expecting us. Whether or not specifically us, and whether it was now or not, I felt that they expected someone sooner or later, as if our coming was some sort of prophecy waiting to transpire."
"And you both forgot that as the vision on Burfell began, we were close to all dying. But while we were "elevated" to this dream with others, our opponents were destroyed. Their bodies literally ripped apart as what seemed to be the spirits of elves ripped out of them and upward into the vision with us."
"That is about all I have to add, except that it was an honor and pleasure to take the test of adulthood with companions such as yourselves. And with our strength and courage, and the blessing of Domi, it will be something that we will always remember, my friends."
Aiden Friday April 15th, 2005 10:41:41 PM
Aiden, too, was impressed by Bohdi's recounting of what had occurred, including the different messages they had received.
His eyebrow rose when he heard of the test one would have to take in order to leave the town. It seemed quite interesting...even intrigued him enough to give it thought. But he then decided against it, for now, since it had been a difficult passage to adulthood, and to simply cast it aside for the sake of a 'challenge' would disgrace his master's memory.
HOWEVER....Twin Tusks was quite different. Already ideas were beginning to form about perhaps doing a few raids against some lone Tusk patrols.
Then he reined in his thoughts (and urges) once again, "We should give the message to the ghost's mother..." in a firm voice.
"it is only proper..."
ooc: last I remembered, we didn't have a chance to do so. I figured it'd be some good closure on what Frigga had been working upon.
Nauthiz'Ull Sunday April 17th, 2005 2:05:24 PM
A smirk crawls across Nauth's face as he notices Bohdi's delight to show-off proper. As the gnome finishes his retelling, nauth slowly leans over to him and pushes him suddenly.
"Good boy there wunjo, good boy. You see Kayra, Bohdi here suprises even us on occassion. I had one more thing to add as well. When the Tuskers attacked, there was a polar bear hidiing in the shadows and it lunged out and ripped apart one of them and then went back to where is was sitting moments before. It sat there and watched us. Aiden will most likely agree with me that this is not a normal animal behavior."
Nauth scratches his jawline, and an attentive eye will notice that he is looking around the room to see if anyone notices him. The presence of pride and maybe some ego swim in his eyes.
"Now that We are all adults, may I have permission to follow those wolf tracks with whomever wants to join? Those tracks are almost as strange as the visions we had."
Aiden Monday April 18th, 2005 10:14:34 PM
"You should not go alone..." Aiden brought up, "especially with the numbers..."
He hadn't thought of what he was going to do next, but the mystery of the wolves was intriguing...what lead so many wolves astray (well...other than the winter wolves)?
He left his comment open to see how Nauthiz would react.
Justin Webber (CO-DM) Interesting Tales Monday April 18th, 2005 11:25:01 PM
Karya sitsand listens of what Bohdi says and grins as she listens, quite odviously glad that the little man has some very useful traits to him also.
Karya rubs her chin and nods, "You should find the ghost's mother and do as she has asked considering it was a wish of a spirit and here in Celsiun's realm, anything a spirit tells you or asks if a serious thing....I also am intriqued about her comment also, as all of you might of known we once had a small statue made of pure ice that was granted to us by Domi. The ice of the statue never melts and as long as it was here our village prospered. However the statue was stolen from us by the Twin Tusks and for sometime we have planned to obtain it back. The village and our livelyhood comes first however."
Karya thinks more on the details given her and nods finally, "I believe alot of the visions you are having are linked. However I am not sure. The temple...the darkness in each...an summoning for help." Karya grins as a thought comes to mind, "Yes, the wolf tracks will be looked into by us but your first jobs as adults are to find out more about your dreams...I suggest first if you are to summon help from outisde that you seek the ice ants that you have found yourselves allied with....The ice ants are a ancient race of life here and know this land better then any creature that we know of."
Karya thinks some more while standing and smiles, "I too had a vision from drinking from the gourd. You all should speak to the shaman here for info on the temple. I feel her knowledge is what will help guide you to it."
Bohdi Nackle Tuesday April 19th, 2005 11:40:17 AM
"Back to the ice ants?" Bohdi repeated incredulously. "Lady, begging your pardon ... but are you sure that gourd didn't go to your head? Didn't you hear what we were saying? There's wolves out there. And it's wicked nasty cold. And there's raiders, too, and probably lots worse."
The gnome sat defiantly, arms crossed. "Nuh-uh. We're not going anywhere. We're staying right here where it's warm, and it's safe, and everyone has a maximum of four appendages. Right, gang?" Belatedly, the gnome looked about at his companions, seeking support. "Gang?"
Garrett Tuesday April 19th, 2005 2:51:13 PM
Garrett turns to look at Bohdi, with a bit of a gleam in his eye, and a half smile he's trying to hide. "I don't know Bohdi, seems like when you are given a dream, ignoring it isn't the best course of action. I for one plan on following up on my vision. Domi would not have sent me one if I were to spend the rest of my days sitting on my rump drinking ice wine."
"As Karya says, the wisest course of action is to learn more of this temple that we were ALL meant to seek. So I feel we should go speak to the shaman immediately after fulfilling the ghosts request."
"But when that has been completed, I would not be against looking into these wolves. Or, even a little more tempting than that, retrieving the stolen statue."
Aiden Tuesday April 19th, 2005 7:52:06 PM
Aiden listened as the village elder gave her wisdom to the newly initiated adults. As a hunter, he found it odd for so many wolves to be moving in terms of territory, something that belies a danger to the village.
To learn more about that seemed to interest him much more than to simply investigate some strange building. However, he also recognized the importance of following the dictates of the village elder, something that was beaten into anyone from Twin Tusks from the moment that he (or she) was born. Even a year away, under the more liberal Ice Peaks, could not undo so many years of training.
"Yes village elder..." he said respectfully, agreeing, "I shall go to the Ice Ants" and then turning to Nauthiz, "and help investigate the wolves afterwards..."

As the village elder speaks, Nauth shuffles a bit in his seat. His frustrations of having to put a hold on the wolf matter apparently does not sit right with him.
The dark-hair sister of the ranger lays a hand on his back and rubs momentarily. "We all know that the visions are powerful experiences. We cannot deny them. If we do, then we will eventualy regret it. Other matters will fall into place." Frigga then resummed her actions of starring at the rest of the group and playing with some of the fur on her cloak.
"Well, um, well right sis. These dreams will lead us to the wolves right? The ants prophesized something and they said they will help when the time comes. Everyone should knwo that the ants prey on the wolves and if we meet up with the ants then maybe they can lead us to the wolves as well."
The lanky young man stands and begins pacing in the tent, looking as if deep in thought, but mostly confussed.
Frigga watches her brother pace, a smirk on her face as she knows what is in her brother's head.

Karya looks to Bohdi and grins some as she thinks and then speaks, "Oh well then dear Bohdi, they say those who ignore spirits wishes and such are visited by banshees sent to them by Celsiun."
Karya after giving Bodhi that little nudge allows you all to go now and meet with the ghost's mother.
The tent for the ghost's mother isn't to hard to find either. Near the back of the village, actually not to far from the shaman's tent is the ghost's mother's tent. The tent is really plain even compared to the other tents and when you knock on the flap you here a older voice call out to you, "Who is it? Come on in where it's warmer, my old bones can not take the cold like they use too."
When you enter you see a little past her middle ages woman setting by a small fire in the center of her tent. She stirs a small pot thats on the fire and as she looks up her eyes almost glaze over for a moment, "I see...why do the young adults come to see this old lady hmm?" The lady's eyes tell most of her story but most of you who grewup in the village know that this lady was a good hunter in the village but when her daughter never came back from her spirit just seemed to be broken. (OOC:I Hate to push you all along so fast but me and Daniel are falling abit behind on our schedule of movements.) No matter what the group says or does after telling the old woman of her daughter and giving her the thing from her daughter she just seems to clam up more then anything and after many long moments looks to each of you, "I thank you for returning with all this...it sets my daughter to rest I am sure and I am thankful....I'm sorry but I need some time to myself though, this has came as a blessing but yet hard since in some way deep in me I had hoped she might still be alive."
(OOC:I figure your next stop will be the shaman's place. I'm hoping to get Daniel to post that part tomorrow and you all will be leaving the village soon so you all know. Once again we're sorry for pushing you all along so fast at this point.)

Nauth shifts his weight from side to side as he is quite uncomfortable with the present situation. The memories of his father, Ull'Heimdall project his thoughts completely out of the Vein. He does his manly best to fight back the tears for the moment.
Frigg'Isa, however, has naught the manly ideas of tears showing weakness and lets loose a shower of tears. Each one appears determined to leap from her eyes, down her cheeks and plummet to the earth. She reaches for Nauth's arm and grips it painfully tight when she finds it.
"I am sorry mother, I...I...know what it is like...ohh I am sorry."
Nauth stares at Frigga in bewilderment and when he sees her break down completely he is shattered and a few tears streaks their way down his face.
"Mother, we are sorry beyond belief. Your thoughts will tear you in two over the news. I took the same news of our father, Ull'Heimdall and have struggled with making peace with it ever since. Time heals all, mother."
The young man speaks of wisdom beyond his years as he has endured the pain of someone thrice his age. He holds Frigga's arm and slowly walks he out of the tent, towards the shaman's.
Ull'Heimdall, that woman was your hunting companion. Your duty is to protect her daughter until she ascends and reunites with her.

The gnome scowled at Kayra's words but said nothing. He followed the others to the old woman's tent and listened, silently, as the mummified flower was delivered.
Life is cruel, brutal, and unfair, he thought, and: These people send their children into the wild unprotected? Why should they be surprised when they die? And: Bugger all to them, anyway. Flowers, and ants, and raiders, and blood on the snow--why should I care, eh? What good does it do me, eh? Would they shed a tear if some wolf gobbled up this miserable little gnome? I should think not.
It must have been the wind, then, that caused Bohdi's eyes to tear as he left the woman's tent, and a fleck of ice that caught there and caused him to turn away from the group and wipe his eyes. It must have been the sun that lowered his vision, and kept him from looking at the others. That must have been the reason.
"Bugger all," Bohdi muttered at last. "Silly ants and their prophecies. And you're all crazy enough to go charging back out into the snow to meet them, eh? Blast it all." But the gnome gave every impression that he was coming, too--he was just going to complain the whole way.
ooc: I guess, if we're leaving right away, Bohdi will replenish his trail rations from what the village has, he'll take the masterwork crossbow bolts (just assume he has 50 bolts total, for simplicity's sake), and he'll leave alchemical tools behind this time. He'll leave any other "loot" that was obtained on the last trip, including the unidentified potion. He'll also leave his mundane dagger, favoring the enchanted one instead. All else, I think, remains the same (he no longer has a bottle of ice wine).
Let me know if they leave immediately or in the morning, and Bohdi will prepare spells accordingly.

"My sincere condolences Ma'am. And while it may not be easy for you, hopefully you can rest better knowing that her spirit is at peace, and that she obviously loved you. We will leave you to your thoughts and prayers"
Garrett waits for everyone and heads off to see the shaman. Almost at a rush. :)

in the interest of moving along. Aiden I know you're Time frame is off, pleases feel free to double and cover back time.
Frigg'Isa may not be struck hardest by the old womans face to face confrontation with the truth and the destruction of any hope she had clung to all these years, but she is the mst obviously touched. Other blame snow, wind and ice, or at least they tell themselves as much.
The group makes the short walk to the High Priestess Svanhvít's home. Thick columns of ice create a porch-like entrance offering overhead shelter before the triple thick and large winter wolf pelts hang as the outer covering to her home. Standing to either side under the porch is the priestsess' personal bodyguards, sworn unto their own deaths to protect her. Each wears a deadly Falx plainly at their side, the wicked reverse curved scimitar of the fighting masters of teh village. Outside of the high preist and Kayra only one other in the village carries such a weapon, the weapon master himself Ull'As Bjord.
The two sweep back the pelts to the new adults of the village, before teh return and great feast, never would any have been allowed to see Svanhvít in her home, even if they were dying.
Like most homes, there are two sets of entrances, the double layering of walls act to further insulate the inner rooms. Unlike most, the air inside is sweet, perfumed and carries a fragrance none has smelled before. The inner chambers are exceptionally warm and keener ears Listen DC15 detect a low droning buzzing. Thick skins of animals both familiar and foreign lay upon the floor, are decoratively laid on furniture and hang from the ceiling.
Svanhvít herself sists upon her knees and feet facing you with closed eyes. A gold colored, but not gold, Brazier burns an indigo flame before her. Directly behind her is a large fur mound, possibly a bed and just beyond that another set of hanging furs seems to suggest another room beyond this.
After a short moment her eyes flick open and the high priest seems almost to look through to each soul that stands before her. Another moment passes in sweet perfumed silence, then she speaks with a gesturing hand for you to be seated.
"You have come about the Dream and prophesy of old." she begins in an almost methodical practiced tone. "Black snow, Red Ice the children of the End Dream come." Involuntarily, hairs stand on teh backs of your necks and a cold shiver descends your spine. Heedles of your existance it seems she continues, her voice growing colder, uncaring, "Burning spring, the grass afire, seek you the Wall. The Wold Shakes this night the end of dreaming and the beginning of a new dawn. The Hand moves and the Wold is refreshed."
She finishes and with a slight shake of her head blinks several times at you. Her voice more soothing and compassionate now, "It is obvious that you are indeed the Children of the SoulWalk, our Ungmenni'Sal hvarfa. The ancient texts tell of a place, in the southern mountains near Dyngjufjöll, The Ice Mountain. It is here th Woldian Heiroglyps of the ancients are written. You may tell no one where you go and what you find there, not even Kayra knows of this place."
Standing she moves across teh room to a shelf and retrieves a tome of moderate size and distinguished marks. "Take with you this. It will aid you in reading the wall. You must find the passage that speaks of you. The Children of the SoulWalk, the Ungmenni'Sal hvarfa and do as it says."
"Leave in the morning before first true light, while the twighlight is still upon the Village. Travel safe and travel well."
Aiden Wednesday April 20th, 2005 11:23:32 PM
Aiden had quietly followed along with the others, until they entered the old woman's house. He, too, knew well that right now, it was time to replenish the supplies, and store any of his trophies to the side.
It was also time needed with the pup. (OOC: figure this covers the time away without messing things up continuity wise. He will try to use his natural ranger empathy to learn more about the pup/etc)
Sometime later, he returns, with the pup padding quietly by his side. The time had been well served.
The hackles on the back of his neck raised slightly when they entered the tent of the dream seer. He never cared for prophesies and dreams, preferring to keep to the 'real', and that man can help guide his own destiny.
Listening to the sage, Aiden found it tough not to fidget. He didn't care for being inside, and, he also never cared for riddles. However, with all gibberish to the side, he did understand that it was in the villages (and henceforth, his) good interest to travel to the temple.
Quietly, he looked towards the others to see and listen to their own reactions.

Garrett restocks his rations and tries to get some sleep before heading out early.
Bohdi Nackle d20=10 d20=15 d20+8=27 d20+8=14 Thursday April 21st, 2005 11:07:01 PM Miserable little village, Bohdi thought darkly. Miserable little people. Miserable little huts. Miser-- "Eh?" Bohdi looked up, suddenly all ears. "What's this about a tome?"
A canary-stuffed cat's grin spread across the gnome's face. "Why, you lovely old dear, why didn't you say so in the first place? A tome, of ancient knowledge? Why, of course we'll take care of that, now, won't we, everyone? Right? Gang?" Bohdi elbowed his way forward sharply and seized the book forefully--if lovingly--from the old woman's grasp.
He leaned in conspiratorially to the shaman. "Now, don't you worry your pretty little prophesying head about your book while we're away, dear," he told the shaman sweetly. "Ol' Bohdi here will take good care of it, don't you worry." He patted the book--which was now firmly tucked under one arm--reassuringly. "Children of the SoulWalk, Ungmenni'Sal hvarfa, got it. We'll take care of it. Right, uh, Children?" He waved to indicate the others in a way that he hoped seemed meaningful. (Diplomacy, Bluff, both untrained, 10 and 15.)
"Yes, well, right! Children of the EndWalk ... I mean, the SoulDream ... I mean, yes! Children! We must go now, children! Go! Prepare! Walk! Dream! Yes!" He brushed his hands at the others in shooing gestures in the direction of the tent flap before exiting himself. "Yes, cheerio, dearie! Gotta dash, Ungmenni'Sal hvarfa, and all! Ta ta!"
He slipped out of the tent flap and looked at the others, then burst out laughing. "Ho ho! How rich!" he crowed. "That old crow thinks we're all this ... this ... Unga-boonga hvar...whatever. Ha HA!" He held the book aloft triumphantly. "Who knew this village even had books! I thought you barbarians just ate them ... uh, no offense, Aiden ...." The gnome sidled sideways away from the former Tusken raider. Then, his attention drawn back to the book, Bohdi caressed its cover adoringly and sighed. "Ah, a book ... a book ... and from the looks of it, an arcane book at that! Oh, how long I've yearned to see a good book!" He smiled at the others contentedly. "You can all lead us out to whatever private hells await us on the ice now, wunjos. I--have--my--book."
Blissfully unaware of the others' reactions, Bohdi marched off into the snow back to his tent to prepare for the morning's departure. But a good portion of the evening was spent studying the book and its markings. (Knowledge:Arcana 27, Spellcraft 14. Bohdi will cast Detect Magic on the book, followed by Read Magic, if applicable.)
