"I seen some guys packing up a cart with some barrels an' stuff, and a real purty lady talkin' to the driver. She had fancy robes and a necklace with big jewels on it." The urchin talks as he follows Harvest Moon towards the inn. "After she left, some other fellas got into a wagon under a tarp. They all headed off for the garrison. Watcher figger 'about that?" The lad stops and his eyes go big and round when he spots Lorth and Merryn beating on Bralin, who seems quite happy about it. He just stops and watches, eyes big as saucers and mouth hanging open.
Ashlan tries diplomacy as he persists at learning the motivations of those with whom he has cast his lot. Arm anticipates trouble, and prepares, while Villemus worries about missing the fun.
Those outside the inn feel a sudden chill as a cool breeze stirs the warm late afternoon air. Birds of the nearby trees break into cacophony of song, then silence. Everyone in the party can pick up faint strains of some ethereal music, but only those with some elven blood running in their veins can hear the words. It is time! The invitation to join the dream-song and raise the sleeping king!
Starless night will cover day, the veiling of the sun, Dark sleep broken, here comes the one!
No more will you wander, on dark journey of dreams. The woods have awoken, the power of living things!
Our love for this land is deeper than the deepest sea. The bonds are sundered, and we will have our king!
Will they join the song? Andrath Silverhand, Arminas Calaelen, Ashlan Lathanyel, Villemus Bralfah will you sing and wake the fairy king?
Harvest Friday April 22nd, 2005 8:00:16 AM
Harvest Moon frowns and looks up the road toward Stormwind Castle.
"If figure that this is not so good, Kiel. But it is possible that the town, at least, may be safe tonight. And I figure it is a pity that we never visited the jewelers while we were in town earlier."
"These are my friends, Kiel," she says standing behind the boy with both hands upon his shoulders. "This is Paladin Lorth Jeradosta, Bralin Stoneminder, Merryn Blackbridge, Arminas of Jarlswolf. You have met Andrath Silverhand. And these are Villemus Bralfah," indicating the half drow, "and Ashalan Lathanyel. We have just met them, as we have met you."
"This is Kiel," she says to her companions. "He has a keen eye. And he is hungry. Hildy, Lincoln, Kiel would like all of the pie he can eat. I will pay what is necessary." She looks around at the boy's face. "I think he may also like a job. If you have anything available for a sharp eyed boy who very much wishes to save up five gold pieces."
"And, can you tell me please Hildy, is the Jeweler a woman? Or is there a woman in town of exceeding beauty who wears expensive clothing and a necklace with large jewels?"
"Andrath Silverhand ... "
Harvest Moon tips her head to one side in a pose of listening. She strains to pick out the direction from which the voices come.
"Andrath Silverhand ... " Harvest Moon's voice now holds concern as she looks into the elf's silent face. "Andrath Silverhand?"
Lorth Friday April 22nd, 2005 9:11:49 AM
Lorth greets the boy and offers him a firm handshake. He then watches the elves very closely when they start acting peculiar.
Arminas Friday April 22nd, 2005 9:36:38 AM
Arminas watches Merryn as he looks over the leather armor, then as Merryn starts to put it on Arminas starts to say something and stops. He hears music, beautiful music.
Arminas goes into a dream trance and starts to sing.
When he sings of the woods awakening, tears roll down his face. Yet he sings, and bears no shame for the tears.
Bralin Friday April 22nd, 2005 10:57:00 AM
Bralin looks around. The elves again. Just like the fire. He thinks back on what he learned observing the elf-meet at the Giggling Ghost.
There is magic here.
"The Eyes," he states flatly. "The Convergence comes."
Do they welcome it, bring it about, or strive to prevent it? he wonders silently. One look at Arminas, and Bralin knows, and shudders at what will be.
Instinctively, the dwarf turns his face toward the sun, trying to inspect it without blinding himself.
Villemus Friday April 22nd, 2005 12:54:52 PM
Villemus stared into the flickering flames of the fireplace as he whispered softly to himself...
Why couldn't we just leave him to his rest? The sorrows to waken and see his dreams despoiled.
The half-drow wept for the sorrows of the sleeping king.
We do what we must for the love of Wold.
Villemus did not sing.
Merryn Friday April 22nd, 2005 1:29:14 PM
Merryn catches Arminas' look out of the corner of his eye as he dons the new armour. Walking over to him, he says, "I'm sorry Arminas, did you have your eye on this item as well? If so, I will gladly give it over to you. I only wish to have it if no one objects to my wearing it."
OOC: I haven't been able to keep up with the treasure list e-mails, so if Arminas laid claim to the armour there and I missed it, I'll hand it over and head back to my old armour.
Arminas' eyes seem to be looking far off into the distance. Merryn hears the sweet music, but cannot understand its lyrics. Merryn concludes, "At any rate, if you want the armour it's yours." Merryn removes the armour for now, putting back on the old and heads over to Kiel.
"Hello young man. I am Merryn Blackbridge, a recent companion of these travellers. Pleased to meet you." Merryn extends his hand for Kiel to shake, smiling and flashing his eyes green as he does so.
Ashalan Friday April 22nd, 2005 3:02:38 PM
Shaking his head to answer "No" to Bralin's question, his bright silver hair swinging from side to side Ash tries to explain his situation.
"Alas sir dwarf, I have no means to retrieve that magical power within me. At times of my deepest meditation an arcane aura can be seen and felt around me, much like fireflies dancing around my head."
Ash waves his wands about him in illustration, like swatting at flies.
"Upon discovery of this, the kind brothers at the monetary felt that if I was to find the source of this inner power, and the means to access it, I had to enter the Wold to learn from others who would teach me the ways of the arcane."
With a heavy sigh he continues.
"A portion of my spirit is sadden by this, for if I am to truly embrace the ways of the arcane I must leave the path on which my whole life has been trod, never to return ag......"
Ashalan's words trail off and his eyes glaze as the beautiful music fills his ears, as if from nowhere and everywhere all at once.
Longing to find his place in the Wold, longing to reach out to his unknown elven heritage, Ash fills his lungs and sings out.
"Starless night will cover day, the veiling of the sun, Dark sleep broken, here comes the one!
No more will you wander, on dark journey of dreams. The woods have awoken, the power of living things!
Our love for this land is deeper than the deepest sea. The bonds are sundered, and we will have our king!"
What will come of this he does not know, but for now he feels a sense of family he has never known, and he feels at peace.
Awakening Saturday April 23rd, 2005 2:58:03 AM
The sky darkens prematurely, and those looking up witness a unique celestial phenomenon as the twin discs of the Wold's two moons align with each other ad slide across the sun.
The Wold stirs....
A breeze springs up, seemingly from out of nowhere. On the Sargass Plains, the unending grasses begin to move and toss, and the rapkes pace, restless and uneasy. In the Windbourne Hills, horses whinny and break into a run for no reason. In the tunnels beneath Dirt City, sewer rats begin to flee their hiding places, running into well-traveled corridors while the people wonder what it all could mean. And in the Emerald Kingdom, the anticipation is very nearly palpable as the animals awaken and the trees stir in the wind.
Something is coming.
The Wold seems to hold its collective breath as the Sleeper stretches, turns, sighs...and awakens. Eyes the color of the sea blink and focus as the Sleeper regards the Wold around him. The expanse of New Elanna, the great bulk of Shadow Mountain, the mysteries of the Southern Continent, even the wonder that is Floating City--all of these are known to the Sleeper in a heartbeat. A frown of concentration crosses his face, then a satisfied smile as he begins to know what must be done.
The Sleeper takes a breath and stretches out his hand...
The moment passes, and the moons continue their course, once again revealing the sun.
Harvest (2nd Illegal Post) Sunday April 24th, 2005 10:30:55 AM
Harvest Moon's eyes return to the room as the unnatural darkness outside the window passes, and the light of the afternoon sun is restored. Memories from the green fire of the night before play through her head as her eyes light upon the elven contingent within the room, both companion and newcomer.
What would be the consequences of the waking of this Sleeper? And would it be in time to aide them at Stormwind Castle tonight?
These thoughts she keeps to herself, saying only, "This evening may bring danger. Hopefully it will not go beyond Stormwind Castle. But it will be best to remain indoors."
Then, she need only bend a short distance from her own five feet to whisper in the small boy's ear. "Can you help us tonight, Kiel? Can you stay here? Hildy and Lincoln may need protection. And all of us must go to Stormwind Castle. Will you be their protector?"
Andrath d20+11=26 d20+11=31 Monday April 25th, 2005 7:45:12 AM
Andrath listens to the boy's explanation and peers in through a dirty window. The rogue slides his dagger beneath the window until he feels the satisfying release of it's locking mechanism. "I'll just be a minute, wait for me at the Shadfly". [Open Lock = 26, Search =31]
Andrath returns to the Shadfly just as the eclipse occurs. He does not sing, his attention focussed on the here and now, rather than with this sleeper and the past.
DM Bob & Carla Monday April 25th, 2005 7:59:17 AM
Harvest Moon introduces Kiel to the proprieters of the Shadfly. Hildy immediately begins fussing about the boy and in no time he is sitting behind a plate of pie. "Lincoln!" she calls out, "Lincoln, get the room beneath the stairs ready for him. He can help you out." Lincoln rolls his eyes and sets about readying the small cranny that serves as a bedroom beneath the stairs. He has the look of a man who knows that anything he says will fall on deaf ears, for Hildy has already made up her mind.
Andrath returns from his search of the warehouse and confirms the boy's story. At least 30 individuals had used the former warehouse to gather and organize.
The darkening sky and the elf-song cast an awkward pall upon the room. Those that sing are oblivious to those around them that do not.
As the sky lightens again, Harvest speaks the obvious, that Strongwind Castle will be their next visit.
Lorth Monday April 25th, 2005 8:18:20 AM
Lorth ignores the elf singing, as he does not understand it. He prefers to worry about helping this town and destroying the dread.
Lorth inspects his new equipment the puts the pieces in their new homes. The gauntlets on his hands, longsword at his side and shield strapped to his back. He makes note to have his new shield painted with Gargul's all seeing eye, as soon as possible.
He then walks over to Hildy and asks, "May I leave some of my equipment here, until we return? I fear I cannot carry it all and don't have enough time to dispose of it properly." If Hildy allows it, Lorth leaves his old shield, longsword +1 and pick axe.
Harvest Monday April 25th, 2005 10:21:15 AM
The little room under the stairs ... Her room.
Harvest Moon watches the boy eat.
Rooms exchange hands. How things move. Even when one is standing still.
Her eyes stray to the small angle-top door. Did she live in there? It seems so small now. It was no more than a few days ago, and yet it feels so distant. The Harvest Moon, reluctantly studying scrolls by the light of an everburning torch, seems a different person.
Seeing the others in preparation, the little brown monk moves to the array of items captured from the Crimson Fort. She reviews their properties as described by Bralin Stoneminder. The cloak and the coil of rope. The wand to Enlarge a Person could prove useful on the battlefield to a person who has mobility.
She lifts the blue stone from the table considering it's use. When placed in the air above her head, it begins to spin a glowing blue halo above her head.
That small preparation complete, she checks the straps of her haversack once more, before leaving for the Castle.

Ashalan Monday April 25th, 2005 10:54:45 AM
Shaking off the effects of the awakening, not really sure whether it was dreamed or real, Ash makes sure his own meager belongings are packed away.
As the group prepares for travel Ashalan addresses them,
"I cannot speak for my traveling companion Villemus, however if you would have me, I would very much like to join you in your journey to Stormwind Castle."
"These are dark days and evil is afoot. I feel there are far too few individuals who are willing to risk their lives in standing up for what is right and good. I sense that courage in this group, and I would be honored to travel with you."
Having made his request Ash sits to wait for departure. Knowing that a rough night may be in store and wanting to take every opportunity to rest and clear his mind. .
Arminas Monday April 25th, 2005 10:55:54 AM
Arminas comes out of his dream song. His cheeks are streaked with tears, yet he does not seem to notice.
"It is done. He has awoken."
Looking at the expressions of the others, especially Bralin, Arminas adds:
"Do not fear the Fairy King. The Wold will be made whole, and all who love it will prosper."
Arminas goes over to where Harvest is looking through the items from the Crimson Fort.
"The elven cloak fits you well, both physically and in a deep sense that cannot be fit into words. I will keep the other. May the magic of the makers keep you safe."
"Merryn, here you take this leather armor. It's magics will protect you as you protect the Wold. I will take these bracers, they will provide some protection as well. This sword and these potions may also be useful."
Arminas then stows the potions in his belt pouch for quick access. The sword he puts in his scabard. The bastard sword he places into his quiver where it seems to magically disappear.
"Let us go. The Fairy King cannot do this alone. It will take many brave hearts and the blood of many to defeat the Dread."
Villemus Monday April 25th, 2005 12:59:44 PM
Villemus woke from his trance, and when he realised that the sleeper had awaken, he shrugged and remarked, "What is mortal life but by mortal means?"
Turning towards the members of the Swords of Light, the half-drow queried, "I would like to fight against the Dreads. May I stand with you?"
And seeing that some of the members equipping themselves for battle, he asked, "Erm, I thought we are going to Stormwind Castle for the celebration?"

Bralin Monday April 25th, 2005 3:52:46 PM
Bralin also replaces gear. He removes his old banded mail, replacing it with the magical breastplate. He takes one of the cloaks, and sets the dusty rose stone spinning around his head.
As Villemus speaks, he shakes his head. "The Dread attack yon castle tonight," he informs the drow. "Prepare for battle."
The dwarf shoves two scrolls and the leather bound spellbook at the mage. [Scroll -- Confusion, Flaming Sphere Scroll -- Haste, Fireball Spellbook contains 21 unidentified spells]
Having prepared as best he may, Bralin awaits Andrath's order to move.
Merryn Monday April 25th, 2005 6:00:05 PM
Merryn graciously accepts the armour from Arminas. "Thank you Arminas. May those bracers better protect you from harm as well." Merryn shimmies out of his old armour and into the new, flexing at the joints to accomodate it to himself. Merryn feels safer at once in this new skin and remembers to thank the animals who offered up their hides for it.
Merryn then packs up his things and prepares to head for Stormwind, spear in hand.
Andrath Tuesday April 26th, 2005 1:22:14 AM
The elf watches as the treasure is "shared", thinking to himself, "I could have used the bracers, or the gauntlets, or one of the magic gems, or one of the cloaks, or ... "
Then he reaches down and picks up one of the silver pieces, and says, "So, I guess that this piece of silver will be my portion of the treasure that we all fought so hard for in the Fort."
[OOC: I was away Sunday and Monday, and I didn't realize that we were all grabbing the treasure for the trip up to the castle. I still thought that we were discussing what to do with the items. As I have emailed, I pretty much want to sell the items, except for Lorth's sword, and use the money to purchase items from the Catacombs. However, it seems that will not come to pass. Andrath will try to find a good use for his silver piece. :)]
"It seems that everyone has made their way up to the castle. So, if you are all finished outfitting yourselves from our gains, let's head up that way ourselves."
"Kiel, if you would come with us up to the castle, and maybe point out the lady that you saw at the warehouse if she is there, I would pay you the very handsome sum of 25 gold pieces. What do you say?"
Regardless of the boy's reply, Andrath will head out of the inn, leaving a couple of gold pieces on the table for the once-again great service, and make his way up to the castle, hopefully with the urchin in tow.
DM Bob and Carla Tuesday April 26th, 2005 7:37:26 AM
Anticipating conflict and with little time to spare, the Swords of Light equip themselves, upgrading their older equipment with gear retrieved from their foray into the Crimson Fort. Hildy nods solemnly at Lorth's request, and Lincoln and his new helper carry away the paladin's old gear. The halfling and the boy collect any other gear along with the mysterious locked chest and store it along with Lorth's gear. "It will be here for you when you come back," Lincoln solemnly promises, "and the boy will stay here, with us as well."
Ashalan and Villemus ask to join the party in their quest. Having carefully selected that which will help them best play their role in the coming events, Harvest Moon, Bralin, and Arminus prepare themselves. The mind of the hitherto silent rogue turns to thoughts of what he might select with his share of the party loot. In the interim Andrath leaves the salvaged items untouched, save for a good luck coin. There will be time to upgrade later, when they come back...if they come back!
++++++
The group make their way quickly along the road, but not so quickly that they outpace the night. It is dark when the party approaches the garrison. From a distance of a quarter mile they witness the first spectacular explosion of celebratory fireworks.
Lorth Tuesday April 26th, 2005 8:11:19 AM
Responding to Andrath's sarcasm, Lorth replies, "Andrath, I mistakenly thought that you didn't care for any of the items and were going to take whatever was left over and sell it to the catacombs. If this is not the case I will certainly give you any of the items I took. You are welcome to them. Also you may certainly have my old weapon to sell at the catacombs, it is a +1 longsword." If Andrath asks for anything Lorth hands it over, if not he just follows along the road.
Arminas Tuesday April 26th, 2005 10:23:13 AM
Arminas looks toward Andrath as he grabs the silver piece.
"Take two, you earned them." Arminas then grins and lets out a small laugh.
"Andrath my friend, we can indeed sell all to the catacombs. It is just that I choose to purchase these same items, so I take a portion of my treasure now. As you can see, I have taken less than a sixth of the value, less than my share. I expect we will account for the difference later."
Then looking at the street urchin that Harvest befreinded, he adds: "I think you may place too much value on coin and goods. Really, 25 gold pieces for the life of a child seems low."
Along the road Arminas takes the lead, his bow at the ready. When the fireworks are set off, Arminas looks up with concern. "Most nights this would gladden my heart. Tonight I fear that they will use the distraction of the fireworks to start the attack. We are too late. Yet all may not be lost, lets hurry to the fort."
Harvest (AC22, HP 28/28) d20+9=19 d20+9=27 Tuesday April 26th, 2005 10:52:26 AM
Harvest Moon says nothing. Without a word, she removes the magic coil of rope from her Haversack and presents it to Andrath.
Outside the castle, her eyes follows the shooting flare of the firework to the burst at its apogee. All things are both beginning and end.
She quickly casts two spells upon herself, before proceeding with the rest, eyes and ears alert for danger.
OoC As far as I'm concerned, all of the items go back into the pot after Stormwind Castle is secured. But, it seems foolish to go into a possible battle with these items available and not take advantage of them. For me, the current loot distribution is temporary.

At times it is easy to see the destructive nature of wealth.
Taking the groups non-response to his request as acceptance, Ash joins the party on their journey to Stormwind.
His jaw dropping at the sight of the here-to-for unknown fireworks, Bralin's words of caution come to mind.

"Thanks Bralin. The book might come in useful.", the necromancer shoved the spellbook into his pouch before glancing at the seals on the scrolls. Villemus frowned slightly, and remarked "I am afraid I can't use most of these scrolls. I believe in the freedom of will, and will not use enchantment spell. As for evocations, well, I never did manage to master them."
Shrugging helplessly he asked, "Anyone one else able to use these scrolls? The only spell I can use here is Haste."
If no one else is able to use the scrolls, Villemus stuff the scrolls into his pouch for the moment.
He chuckled at Arminas's wit, and held up two silver pieces, "Here's mine lucky coins. All the coins I have in the world at the moment."

The group make their way quickly along the road, but not so quickly that they outpace the night. It is dark when the party approaches the garrison. From a distance of a quarter mile they witness the first spectacular explosion of celebratory fireworks.
"Wow! That is fantastic!", Villemus mused. But the cheer soon left him as he remembered about the impending attack. "Aren't we gonna warn the garrison? Spies or no spies, we need to warn the innocents."
"I hope I am ready for this. Bone doesn't like bloodsheds."
The necromancer focused on a piece of leather as his casted his protective magic upon himself. After completing his first spell, Villemus continued onto his second, tracing glowing sigils onto his tattooed body. The sigils faded from sight as soon as he whispered the last verse.

Andrath's sarcasm is completely lost on Bralin. If the elf doesn't desire anything, so be it.
To Villemus, the dwarf simply indicates the pile of unclaimed treasure.
Bralin follows the group, in his accustomed role as rear-guard.
The fireworks are helpful. The light may reveal the foe. The noise may muffle his own footsteps.

Merryn d20+6=18 Tuesday April 26th, 2005 10:52:36 PM
Having taken less than his share in putting on the new armour, Merryn doesn't bat an eyelash at Andrath's comments. Instead he walks comfortably in his new skin towards Stormwind Castle. The fireworks above dazzle his eyes and delight him, but he soon remembers the group's purpose for attending. He scans the horizon for the Dread (Spot: 18).
Andrath Wednesday April 27th, 2005 1:19:34 AM
Andrath continues to approach the castle, keeping his eyes open for "a real purty lady talkin' to the driver. She had fancy robes and a necklace with big jewels on it".
DM Bob and Carla Wednesday April 27th, 2005 9:14:16 AM
The gates of the garrison are thrown wide back. The two sentries seem more interested in the blue chrysanthemum of stars that has just exploded overhead, and ignore the adventurers as they pass by and join the throng in the main yard. It seems as if most of the countryside and the inhabitants of the nearby town are in the courtyard. Most have heads tilted back, eyes fixed on the display in the dark sky above. Merryn and Andrath don't see what they are looking for, but they do spot Caerthon in the crowd at the entryway, watching those who enter. He nods in recognition of the party and then his eyes flick to a spot on the other side of the gate, where Hugo and Langdon scan the crowd.

Edging closer to Arminas, Ash whispers,
"Arminas, What are we supposed to be looking for?"
Waiting for his instructions, Ash makes a mental note of the location of all visible entrances into the courtyard. Not wanting to get caught unawares by any gate crashers.

Just inside the gate, Harvet Moon ignores the people and looks for wagons.
A cart with barrels ...
A wagon with a tarp, under which may be concealed armed fighters. Surely that would be easier to identify in this crowd. Unless it were hidden outside ...
"Bralin Stoneminder," she says, remaining by the dwarf's side, "do you require assistance in closing the gate?"

DM Bob & Carla Thursday April 28th, 2005 12:33:16 AM
The party decides to split up and reconnoitre the garrison, with plans to rendezvous in 10 minutes to report their findings.
Bralin and Lorth take up posts near the gate where they are joined by Caerthon. The older paladin approaches Lorth, and says in a serious voice. "Come. It is time to lay your father to rest. The catacombs underneath the castle will be quiet with everyone in the yard for the festivities." Caerthon will make his way to a low building with a roof, but open to the air at the sides. With a snort and a shake of his head, Tangiers will acknowledge his master as the elder paladin carefully removes the bundle that is the remains of the paladin Kalith Jeradosta.
Arminus explains to Ashalan how Hugo and Langdon told the party about a Dread Lord wanting something inside the castle. How not all the people in the village and environs are as they seem, but may be spies shielded from detection by some kind of magic ring. How while imprisoned, the two paladins overheard talk of an attack on Strongwind Castle during the annual celebration of the victory over the dread. While the monk of Alemi remains below, Arminus climbs to the top of the wall. The elven ranger is not alone, for a few other young males have had the same plan for improving their view. Arminas blends right in and raises no alarms.
Villemus makes his way over to the area where soldiers bearing the insignia of the garrison are setting off the fireworks. The area is roped off and no one appears likely to trespass. As he makes his way through the crowd he passes an interesting family comprised of an elderly human male with a female companion. The elven woman has silvery hair, and wears small, round spectacles. Two young adult half-elves, one slight the other heavier of build accompany them. As they pass Villemus, the female looks up at him with eyes of a most startling blue.
Inside the yard, but away from the crowd, Harvest Moon finds a dozen wagons and twice as many carts of various sizes lined up in neat rows along the wall that encircles the castle. Andrath and Merryn move slowly through the crowd. The rogue sees a few familiar faces. Just folks from Magpie Crossing that he had crossed in the street, or patrons of the Shadfly.
Those with keen ears catch bits of conversation, "completely blocked the sun. Never seen anything like it"..."wasn't it beautiful, all of us singing together. Did you feel the connection?"..."the Reeve had fireworks brought in special for the occasion. Nice of her, eh?"..."better stay away from Brock's Best! You know what happens when you drink halfling brew"..."they say the elves did it."
(OOC: Careful! Everyone is split up, so you don't necessarily share what another character is experiencing.)
Lorth Thursday April 28th, 2005 7:42:57 AM
Lorth signals to Bralin that he is following Caerthon. He then trails Caerthon a few steps behind him, eager to lay his father to rest. When they come to the building Lorth asks if he may carry his father to his final resting place. He then follows Caerthon to wherever he indicates the body should be placed.
Lorth has never done a burial cememony before but does his best unless Caerthon has something in mind. He lays his father out in whatever way he beleives the other heros are resting. He then says some prayers to Gargul to speed along his fathers journey to the lands of rest.
Lorth will try to be quick as he doesn't want to jepordize any of his friends by not being ready for the attack, when it comes.

Before leaving the side of Bralin Stoneminder, Harvest draws a wand, speaks a key word and then points at the dwarf.
"I go in search of wagons," she whispers quietly, with the confidence that Bralin hears her and will continue to do so to a goodly distance despite the softness of her voice.
So many wagons and carts. No time.
Harvest Moon extends her stride, and moves at a speed surprising for a person as short as she. She darts from first one wagon to the next. Vaulting to the back of each wagon, the little monk scrambles across the canvas and leaps off the other side. Over each, she listens for the sound that her feet make over the contents.

Knowing that he will be unlikely to notice anything out of place in the crowd having no prior knowledge of these people, and seeing that little Harvest has the search of wagons well in hand, Ash trails Villemus toward the source of the nights entertainment. Thinking hard to thwart the plans of the would-be raiders.
If there is to be a large scale attack, a signal that can be seen by all must be given... The fireworks!
Ashalan, his darkwood staff held tight in his hand, quickens his pace towards the roped-off area, searching desperately for anyone who looks out of place. Perhaps the guards are wearing matching rings, or are planning something. (Spot: 19+3= 22, Listen: 13)

Bralin's chin drops slightly at Lorth's signal, and again at Harvest's words. The dwarf moves around a bit, making sure he knows where the mechanism to close the gate is located. Once he's satisfied, he takes position in the spot formerly held by Caerthon, and he waits.
The foe must bring reinforcements through the gate. If they are stopped here, the defenders will prevail by sheer numbers.
DM Bob and Carla Friday April 29th, 2005 1:39:06 AM
Lorth cradles his precious bundle as a father would a child while Caerthon leads the way into the castle. At one end of a long hall they find a small room with a high ceiling. A tall window opposite the entry way reflects the light from a trio of candles. Below it, a double set of doors is set into the floor at a slight angle. The elder paladin pulls back the doors, and descends the wide but steep stairs after grabbing a candle and lighting the torches in the stairway as he descends.
After several long and quiet minutes, the two paladins arrive at a subterranean gallery. Opposite the stair is a large stone shield set into the wall. The flickering light of the torches reveals lettering, a rhyme or verse of some sort. Narrow passageways lead right and left. They are riddled with recesses for the tombs of the dead from the wars that have ravaged the area. The bones are stacked in alcoves along the narrow passageways. Caerthon leads Lorth to an alcove where there are several tightly swaddled human shaped bundles. He points to a deep empty shelf, "a worthy place, amongst the honorable dead. When my time comes, this is where I would be laid for my eternal sleep." When Lorth completes his prayers, Caerthon adds,
The things that never can come back are several, Childhood--some forms of Hope--the Dead Though Joys--like Men--may sometimes make a Journey--and still abide-- We do not mourn for the Traveler--his route to the right hand of the Grey Eye is fair
Ashalan trails Villemus, and is but one step behind the half drow when he murmurs his admiration to the elven female. Villemus senses that the lady's husband isn't too pleased. The elderly human male places his hand upon the elf woman's shoulder, and steers her away from the two. A heavy gold ring adorns the ring finger of his left hand. His wife reaches her hand to cover her husband's, and the newest members of the Swords of Light notice she too possesses a heavy gold ring. The two disappear into the crowd followed by their sons. (Listen DC 12 to hear one of the sons mutter Highlight to display spoiler: { "Filthy Drow! What dark hell-hole did you sneak out of?"} Distracted, Merryn moves through the crowd and nearly bumps into Villemus.
Scanning the crowd as he moves along the wall, Arminus trips over a bottle. "Hey! Watch where you're going" calls a young half-elf with a small downy beard as he deftly catches up the bottle. Squinting up at the elven ranger, the youth holds up the bottle, "care for a swig? It's the good stuff."
Harvest leaps from wagon to wagon, using her sense of touch to learn what might be under the mysterious tarps that cover the wagons. Many a wagon provides a soft landing and the sweet smell of crushed hay greets the small monk's nose. Scrambling over the last wagon, she feels a jumble of soft flesh, and then there is a squeal. A young male throws back the tarp, a startled look on his face. "Is it pa?" asks the plump curly haired blonde peering from behind his shoulder, her hands crossed over her naked bosom.
Meanwhile, at the gate, Bralin waits.
Lorth Friday April 29th, 2005 7:30:34 AM

Merryn d20+6=10 Friday April 29th, 2005 9:23:21 AM
Merryn finishes his circuit back towards the meeting place. He hasn't noticed anything out of the ordinary. However, rather than putting him at ease, this makes him even more anxious for what is to come. He takes one final scan of the crowd, hoping to notice something out of place before all hell breaks loose (Spot: 10). The fireworks prove too much of a cover for what goes on below yet again. Turning to Andrath, Merryn asks, "Have you noticed anything out of sorts? These damned fireworks keep dazzling my vision, beautiful though they are."
Harvest d20+5=19 Friday April 29th, 2005 11:28:10 AM "Shhhhhh ... "
Harvest Moon whirls with a finger to her lips as the young man rises up from under the tarp.
"Remain hidden. In the wagon," the little monk cautions the young man and the woman further within. "There is danger here. Do not emerge without a weapon."
She turns to leave, and then stops.
"Do you know of a woman who often dresses in expensive clothing, wearing a necklace and many jewels? Would you know if her wagon were here and which it might be? If she has a cart here and which it might be as well?"
As she waits for an answer, Harvest takes hold of the knotty wooden eye at her side and speaks words of discovery. Both hands cradling the Eye, she scans the four quardrants around her to sixty feet out. With the revelation of magic, she pauses to assess the strenght and location of the magic before moving on. She plays her magic over the carts, even though, in truth, she expects to find nothing. (Cast Detect Magic)

"I'm sorry. The fireworks distracted me. Nice spot you have here. So you broke out the good stuff for tonight. Sure, I'll have a swig."
Arminas then tilts the bottle to his mouth and appears to take a swig. In reality, he only allows a small taste into his mouth.
"That is good, thanks friend. So, are you from around here?"

"I'm looking for some friends who were going to attend the festival tonight. They brought lots of ale and food in large wagons for a party. If I can find them I'll treat you to the best food and drink you've ever had. You haven't seen strangers with loaded wagons have you?"

Harvest Moon's warning to the two lovers is greeted with a blank stare. Don't know if any of them have wagons..." The monks subsequent scan of the wagon's for magical auras reveals nothing. She does hear the muffled giggles of the two lovers as they continue their fun.
Villemus and Ashalan monitor the progress of the obnoxious elven lady and her family. Vilemus detects an aura of abjuration about each of them.
Arminus and Merryn take in the fireworks, and Arminus gets a share of one of the wineskins being passed from hand to hand along the battlements.
Andrath helps Harvest examine the carts and wagons against the castle wall, but also fins nothing of interest.
Bralin stays his position by the gate when a large cart pulled by two oxen trundles up to the portcullis. The driver is a portly man with a ruddy face. The cart bears a large brightly painted sign Bighollow Brewery.
"Where do you want these gov'ner?" the man directs his question to the surprised guard abd waves his hand over the back of the cart and what looks to be nearly 20 large casks.

" ... The Reeve had fireworks brought in special for the occasion ... "
Hildy's words echo through the little brown monk's head.
"The Reeve," Harvest whispers, "The Reeve, Bralin Stoneminder." And, through the magic of her spell, Harvest's voice carries to the ear of the dwarf.
"The woman that Hugo and Langdon saw may have been The Reeve. I have been told that only three women wear jewelry of the type that was described by the boy Kiel. The Reeve is one. The former owner of Brightsong Trading is another, but she is gone. And the current owner of the Dragonfly Inn is the last."
"The Reeve, however, among the three has the best position to arrange the happenings in both Stormwind Castle and the town. And it is she who arranged the fireworks. The fireworks may be a signal."
Harvest feels a cold knot of anxiety within her belly. How to stop this? What if she is incorrect? Then, and idea comes to her. She draws a scroll from her haversack.
