The Reason: Lady Watcher, and the Cycle of Many Ages

Gather the Five (DM/Al)
Wednesday May 18th, 2005 10:07:13 PM

"Chaos once again builds."

The crone continues to speak, even as the Children of Chaos vent, tend to the wounded, and clean up loose ends.

"Once again, comes the dance of Chaos and Order. Chaos brings power. Order brings purpose. And you. You have been called once again to prevent the marriage. To bring the Destroyer, the Avatar of Chaos, before his time. To scatter his gift back to the cosmos before he can bring another age of anarchy."

"The Archmage was but a sign. He was one of many that rise, will rise, have risen. All drawn by the power, a power they cannot resist. The same power that is in you."

Lady Watcher lifts a wizened hand and points a gnarled finger at the odd object, so like a brass mirror mounted upon a tripod. It rests still upon the carpet of the Archmage. Colored lights play across the face of one surface.

"Take the Vision of Nyxnox. It is one of the Five. It reads the signs of Chaos power. It will show you the way to the others. You must gather the other four if you are to succeed."

The Vision is to Find Him
Chaos Bane to Bind Him
The Circle Knows the Way, and
The Chime will call him to his Fate
Then when at last, you have him Slain
The Shroud will Offer Up his Soul

"You have the Vision now, Eternal Champions. Gather the others."

With eyes of blue so pale you'd think her blind, Lady Watcher lifts her head, and with the scarlet gem she listens. Each Child of Chaos feels the tolling of their being, rung against a cosmic sky. Then Lady Watch continues.

"My time is short. Our magic will not stand in Ice Vein for long. I bring the Chaos Bell. It will take you where you need to go. Very very far away. If you would quell the burning fire of your curiosity, you must act quickly. If you have questions, ask them now."

The white stuff of soul, the remains of Sly and Jason's parents, mother, sister, stretches, lengthens, and takes shape. Limbs form out of the formless, a trunk, a head, face, features. And finally, molded from the purest white, floats the figure of Ruby Foxx.

"S-s s-s s-s sla-slah Sly Foxx." The figure of Ruby Foxx smiles down upon her brother. "We have d-dee-de decided. To give up us for me. Guh g-g-g-g-g give up the old for the young. Good bye, Sly Foxx. Good bye, brave friends of my son. Good bye, dearest son," the different voices ring.

"Sly?" The lips of the figure do not move. The voice, though, now belongs to Ruby Foxx. "I can't stay. I can't stay, but, you must do something for me before I go. I have dreamed. Dreamed so many years of championing our people. Of taking the oath and becoming a Bladesinger."

The figure of Ruby begins to recite, her voice young and eager, "Who do you swear by, What do you swear to, and What do you hope happens if you break your oath? Those are the three parts, Sly. I've been thinking about them for a long time."

"But now ... I can't. But you, Sly, you can. Please. Please, live my dream. Become a Bladesinger for me, Sly. Will you take the oath and obey the code? Will you swear the oath to me, Sly? The Oath of the Bladesinger?"

Savin
Wednesday May 18th, 2005 11:05:25 PM

Savin will step forward and ask, "These tattoos we all share? They seem to have some power about them? Is it something we can harness while in distress?"

Savin will start looting the archmage of items as he listens to the answer. He thinks they might get whisked away soon and doesn't want to miss out on the loot.

Sly Foxx
Thursday May 19th, 2005 7:41:08 AM

Sly calm down as he see the sprits of his Mother, his sister and the parents of Paladen Jason. He advances to where all of the sprits are and listen to them.

Sly will put his sword down in frount of his mother and sister. Going down on one knee, answering his sister request. . .

"Come all my folk of ages eld,

And hear the words to whitch I'm held.

Bear witness: I to you do swear

Defending all my folk so fair

Will be the course that I Declare!

And Should I yet my folk Betray,

Them strike me down and dead, I Pray."

When Sly finishes the oats, he does not move but watches his family, that will soon disappere.

Luke
Thursday May 19th, 2005 7:46:37 AM

Luke watches his master, he goes to sit beside him. Listens to the oath, He ask Sly "Me too?"

Sly still watching the sperits, answer him, "Yes! Luke! You follow me."

Firn'gaer
Thursday May 19th, 2005 8:50:51 AM

The words of his companions calm the fury, somewhat, of Firn'gaer. He decides answers to his questions are of greater importance than revenge against Meznock.

Stepping towards the Lady Watcher, Firn'gaer bows before asking,
"My lady I do have many questions that I would request answers to.

What is the origin of the power that the tattoos represent? What is it called?

Is the power the mark? Or are we the vessels of this power?

They have such great power housed within them for what purpose was this created?

Is it within our power to control, or influence, the power of the it represents?"

Firn'gaer waits for the immortals reply. While Rufus seeing his master's anger subsiding, returns to the comfort of his pocket within Firn'gaer's robe.

Ilsidur(ceil)
Thursday May 19th, 2005 10:08:27 AM

Ilsidur heals Tokum to the point that the barbarian is almost ready to fight again. But He was listening to the witches, "We have a Mirror of Vision! And we must get fore other item??. You knew this when we first started. You never told us about this??."

Then stand silent as Sly makes his oath, but wonders if the tattoo will vanish also or never go away?? What will happen to our young guide?? How will he every get back to his village??

A thousand question goes through his mind.

Savin Illegal post
Thursday May 19th, 2005 3:10:35 PM

Savin will trot over to the mirror and look at it. He will add, "How does this thing work?"

OOC: to Savin
Thursday May 19th, 2005 3:25:05 PM

George Dear, The Mirror is 20 feet up in the air?? You walk on air??

Niobe
Thursday May 19th, 2005 3:43:52 PM

Niobe makes a mental inventory of all the things they now are supposed to find.
'So much work, so little time' is a thought that comes to mind... the other thought that immediately springs to mind is 'does all this have anything to do with that darned "Fairy King"??'

Niobe doesn't take her eyes off of the old crone as she speaks; after all it isn't every day that one gets to see an entity mentioned in the tales.

Savin Illegal post number 2

OOC Actually Savin has a fly spell on still so he could fly up and see it. Must admit I didn't realize that it was 20' up in the air.

Peerimus [AC 20 HP 40/67] and Yorrick [AC 20 HP 34/46]  3d8(4+2+3)+9=18
Thursday May 19th, 2005 5:08:52 PM

Peeimus and Yorrick gather together to be witnesses to Sly's Oath and the druid reaches out to Mother and heals both himself and Yorrick. [Cast and Share CSW 18]

Listening still further to The Lady Watcher and the grand play in which it is obvious he will be a player for some time does not quite sit right with him. But perhaps it does, he has always been prone to random luck, his encounter as a child, the wanderings that lead to Yorrick, to the Children of Chaos themselves. Yes perhaps he has always been and perhaps that is what is unsettling, it has now been deifined and bordered.

Niobe and or Firn'gaer will surely write down what she has said, so he does little to commit it to memory. His foremost thought is on the Chaos Bell. An item that will take them far from here, far from Mothers bossom, but beauty will surely be found there as well. One merely needs to know how to look. "But what of young Tokun?" the question is out almost before he realizes he uttered it aloud, but Peerimus nods as his words ring strong through the room. The Question is valid, he can not abandon this brave youth.

The Many Names of Chaos (DM/Al)
Thursday May 19th, 2005 8:01:55 PM

"The tattoos."

Lady Watcher turns her stooped shoulders to gaze across the room at Savin's tattoo as he pulls at the dead gnome's various accoutrements. Some seem to be attached to the gnome's body. Perhaps, however, not all are. (Roll Search)
"It is an Eye now. How appropriate."

"No, Champion. The tattoos are not power. They contain only enough power to find you, and to choose. They feel. They perceive. They may even speak with the voice you all share. But they have little in them of power themselves."

The crone inclines her head to Firn'gaer and his questions.
"The power has many names in the tongues of man. This is because man rarely has the vision to see beyond the smaller part that is before him to the larger whole beyond. Chaos, Entropy, Destruction, Creation, Birth, Death, Decay, Inspiration, Love, Hate. They are all manifestations. The power is the force behind all Change. It is us and we are it."

"It has always existed. And yet, as the cosmic winds sweep the voids of existence, there come times when Chaos grows together. It collects and builds. Those who would use it to their own ends feel the power, and are drawn. Those like this Mage. Chaos will gather. Then, at it's peak it will rise in the form of an Avatar, the unstoppable Destructor who will bring about an age of wild and helpless Anarchy."

"As such times rise, as they begin, there have always been the Eternal Champions. They have a special bond with Chaos. It knows them. For as they are its bane, they are its salvation as well. All peoples hold a connection to Chaos. Some more than others. The Artist. The Revolutionary. The Madman. The Murderer. Through their greater strength of will, many mold Chaos through tools of Law. The Eternal Champions come from those with the strongest of connections. It has always been so. Ever they have come together to raise the Destructor before it's time. And through their perseverance, they dispel it, sending it back to the Everall. As such, Eternal Champions, the power has always been yours to use."

"Not all have succeeded. Many ages have been Anarchy when the Eternal Champions have met defeat. Many ages too, have been reigned by ridged tyrannies of law as the Champions in their pride or zeal destroy the Avatar rather than resurrect it. For, surely, two more names for Chaos are Compassion and Freedom. Without a balance between Chaos and Law, Good and Evil become indistinguishable."

"Ilsidur Wayfinder."

The crone turns her eyes to the dwarven cleric.
"You have been long with the Champions. Even through the loss of your god, your faith has remained. In your perseverance, you have shown strength of character. Will you hold the center and provide the balance between Chaos and Law?"

As Ilsidur mulls the question, Lady Watcher looks down from above at Sly and Ruby Foxx, and the birth of a new Bladesinger. She extends her hand to the pure white girl.
"Come, Ruby Foxx. Your sister, Sly, may remain with us. Perhaps someday it may be possible to restore her to her body. In the meantime she will abide at the Gateway Downs."

On the floor below a form appears, a large brass bell. On the Plane of Souls it sounds. Once ... Twice ...
"The time has come, Eternal Champions. I cannot remain long. Quickly, Ilsidur Wayfinder, your answer."

"Champions, you must all touch the Bell. Take the Vision of Nyxnox. You will know its way. You always have."

The figure of the crone wavers and begins to fade.

Tokun starts as Peerimus calls out his name.

*I will return home, Pee-ri-mus Bear Friend.* The barbarian boy's voice too sounds in the heads of all. *This is my land. I will return home.* He waves. He turns to each one. And with an inner knowledge of what the Magic Ones must do, he waves. *I will return home. And I will sing the songs of the Magic Ones. I will teach my children. And you will not be forgotten.* He blinks, and a tear rolls down his cheek. *You will not be forgotten, Magic Ones.*

[OoC: I dropped the italics. The voice is still in your heads. But the italics made it difficult to read.]

[On a different note, Roll Search if you want a chance at some of the items on the Archmage's body. Keep in mind that I had never intended for any of it to become available. You got your loot back in the Laboratory. But, here I am, giving you a shot. Roll Search for your chance at some pretty powerful stuff.]

Savin flying  d20+2=20
Thursday May 19th, 2005 8:15:30 PM

Savin will look down at the body of the archmage and quickly scan his body looking for things that might be removed. He looks for jewelery, fine looking clothes, such as boots or a cloak. He will scan him for any pouches, that might be easily grabbed.

Savin knows that they have an incredibly tough times coming and the fate of the entire Wold might rest in there hands. They will need any edge possible. He feels some revulsion and shame rooting around a dead enemy like a jackel on a slain rabbit, but he pushes those emotions down understanding the importance of what is to come ahead.

Sly Foxx and Luke  d20+3=19
Friday May 20th, 2005 6:48:06 AM

Sly gives the room a quick serch, checking to see that he still had his chest. Then as an after though he thinks of Tokum.

Sly takes a silver ring off his finger(It look like silver ivy vine corcle) and give it to his barbarian friend. Then Sly pat's him on the back as a jester of good-bye.

Going to stand with the others, He think out loud "I never knew that Ruby wanted to be a Bladesinger! No wonder she alway spared with me? She would have ma a Great Fighter."

Now Sly and Luke stand with the others, Waiting for the bell to toll for them.

Firn'gaer  d20+7=27 d20+8=9
Friday May 20th, 2005 9:25:53 AM

Firn'gaer listens intently as his answers are given by the ancient ones.

"This power isn't a artifact or power created it is the power of Chaos itself. The personification of the ideal."

"I see the wisdom in the balance." The wizard says.

I wonder how the Chaos Bell works... he thinks as others talk of being transported.

Turning his attention away from the crones and their discussions with others, Firngaer looks to where Meznock first fell and to his broken body. He looks for two things first, a staff or rod and his scroll case [Search check DC27].

Next Firn'gaer will look to the mirror. (Was it on the carpet with Meznock?) The wizard's distracted by the goings on else where. [Spot check DC9].

Peerimus and Yorrick
Friday May 20th, 2005 1:15:20 PM

Peerimus clenches his fists across hs chest, elbows parrallel to the floor and bows to the fading Watcher. He then steps in and does something has never done with anyone else and firmly grips the barbarians wirst in a firm shake and says a soft prayer to Mother in the secret Druidic language. "Avmeaya, A'aout gzi A'aoeta Tokun. Be blessed and remembered always"
[Casts Extended Endure Elements]

Looking towards some of the others as he and Yorrick stand to the Bell and touch it. "Savin, Grab that carpet at the very least."

Niobe assists with the search of the archmage's corpse; and any of the other dead gnomes as well. After all they never really got a decent chance to truly search the lab - not with the where abouts of Sly's family unknown at the time...

Fading, distant, trailing on a wisp the wizened crone and the white figure of Ruby Foxx dwindle to nothing. So too does the voice in heads of the six Children of Chaos as they quickly scavenge the bodies of the three evil gnomes.
"Ilsidur Wayfinder. Think upon your choices. Chaos, Law or Balance. You need but pray, and you will be claimed."

"Ride the Winds of Fate, Eternal Champions. Beware. Another presence rises in your path. It comes from the Green. From the ...

Tokun accepts gifts from the Magic Ones. A silver ring from Dog Talking Man, a pattern of twisting plants, foreign and exotic to Ice Vein circle it's edge. The firm grip of Bear Friend's hand brings a surge of comfort and warmth.

The time rises, and fall of the mallet upon the Chaos Bell is palpable in the air. There is little time for gathering, dire though the road before them might be. Loyal steeds, the carpets will not be moved without their word of command. Many of the objects of the Archmage cling to him even in death. The Mage's spellbook must be well hidden in a different place.

Ilsidur feels is the first to feel the approach of the time. He steps forward and touches The Bell. Sly Foxx, then Firn'gaer. Savin flies up to the Archmage's carpet and takes up the Vision of Nyxnox before joining the others, the colors on it's face swirl and dance at his approach. Peerimus touches the bell. And Niobe. Yorrick, Luke, Rufus ...

The Bell tolls. It reverberates against the soul, reflecting, surrounding, growing and spreading outward. The Six travel with the sound. They and their three loyal companions race across the face of the Wold. The essence of their selves spreads across the knowable lands. Mountians and lakes tremble, deserts cry, seas go silent. All of these things call out the name of the Eternal Champions. And that name is "End."
