K'Nara shrugs off her backpack and rummages around in it, pulling out a bottle that she uncorks and drinks in four swallows.

"Figment, make sure Gunther gets a stoneskin," she orders, rifling into her pack again. "We need all of us buffed to the max as much as possible...and we can't hold back, either. If we don't win this, we don't get the chance to go in the Tower--which wrecks the entire mission we were assigned." The tall redhead pulls out another potion bottle and, uncorking it, drinks that one down, too. Then she removes three round, flat discs and puts two of them in her belt pouch. The third she breaks, and the device crumbles into a cloud of silvery sparkles that poof up and then settle down over the entire party.

(OOC: K'Nara just broke a special Triple Blessing of Wardd Seal--it gives the group a special benefit for the next 10 minutes: if, at any time, any of the PCs needs to make a Save, you may add 3 to the roll...but only for the first time you need to make a Fort, Ref or Will Save.)

At Gunther's request, Ingrge casts the stoneskin scroll on him, and then looks around at the other obvious mages trying to discern hwta their strngths or specializations, if any, might be. Knowledge arcana rolls DC29,33 (natural 20) and 29

Ingrge can tell that the Wizards Deux are going to be VERY tough, VERY high-level spellcasters...and the cleric that leads the Arm of Marteaus is quite high in levels, too.

"These are the groups who are competing for the honor of entering the Necromancer's Tower...to get a chance at the fabulous riches within--but only if they survive the Arena!" Gutmasher shouts to the crowd as they clap and cheer at the appropriate bits.

"All right then, combatants--fight or die!!!"

The crowd roars its approval and anticipation, and the Wizards Deux do not wait. Spider #1 rushes at the Ga'alian superquad, generating and throwing a supernaturally-strong web at them that is about 20' around...it hits AC27. Anyone with a higher AC is considered to have been able to avoid the web and scramble out of its way. All who are trapped by the web must roll an Escape Artist check or a Strength check versus DC24 in order to escape it or break through it.

Spiders 2 and 3 are making a bee line for the Arm of Marteaus group.

Spider 4 generates a web and is heading straight for the Talons, but apparently isn't quite close enough to toss its web at them...yet.

The Wizards themselves suddenly become more numerous. A Spellcraft check versus DC14 to figure out the wizards have just cast Mirror Image on themselves.

The light shines brightly off of the highly polished armor of the warriors from Aisildur. As they enter the arena, they march with eerie precision, as if each individual knows exactly where the other is without looking at them. While most of the Aisildurian's appear to be warriors...what with the plate mail and the swords, spiked chain and orc double axe, there also appear to be other classes. No doubt the one in the blood red robes is a priest of Ga'al. The one wearing the gray robes has the look of a spellcaster, while it's not exactly clear what type of class the man wearing the hide armor belongs to. Perhaps most striking about the group is just how similar they all look...blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin and all of them roughly the exact same height, weight and build. It's almost freakish, actually. All of them except for the leader, that is... Though he marches in perfect step with the others, his physical features are markedly different. From his jet black hair, to his bulky build, to his jet black armor, it's obvious there's just something different about this guy.

As the spider charges and then throws his web, several of the Quad members are caught up in the web. The spellcaster (#3) struggles mightly to rip through the massive webs, but is stuck tight. Three of the fighter types (#5, 6 &8) likewise are pinned under the web. Looking highly peeved, the leader of the Quad strides toward the spider and takes a whack at it with his sword (AC28 for 11). "You idiots, get the others free!" he bellows at his men as he stands his ground with the creature.

Waisting no time, a warrior (#7) and the cleric (#4) begin hacking at the, making care not to hit their comrades in the process. With amazing efficiency, they shred the web quickly, freeing their comrades.

An almost sickening look of glee fills the face of the man in the hide armor (#2)as he begins to call forth nature's fury (Call Lightening Storm).

As Gutmasher announces the Arms of Marteaus, Genevieve (#1), leader of the Arms, steps foward and takes an elegant bow to the public. She enjoyes the athmosphere and stirs the crowd to cheer madly for the Arms.

Genieve turns to her group and gives a few orders. From your own position you can see some nod at her and prepare their weapons. Time to fight !

At last Gutmasher gives the long expected words ...

It appears though the Arms weren't expecting to see two of those nasty spiders charge them from the start. Witnessing the trouble the Aisildurians are in the Arm descide to make a slight detour ...

You can see two spellcasters (#4 and #6) make practically the same signal as they both appear to cast a spell upon the Arms's only Dwarf (#7) and the vicious looking female Half-Orc (#8). Immediately these vanish from sight !! Seems both spells made them invisible ... (#7 for 12 minutes, #8 for 11 minutes)

Observing the immense power of the webs Genevieve (#1) casts a spell upon herself (Freedom of Movement - 120 minutes) and moves to the NE ordering her group to spread out - to avoid being caught all together - and take a stand between her and the spiders. It's clear Genevieve is not anxious to go mano a mano with them ...

#2, a powerfull looking warrior, obeys and closes in on the spiders. Yet before moving another spell caster in the group (#3) lays his hands upon the warrior's shoulder and speaks a few words. The warrior clearly becomes even more powerfull (Bull's Strength upon #2 for 60 rounds)

#5 follows suit and joins #2 as they both close in on the spiders.

#7 and #8 also make a move and make a run for it (4x movement - due to their armor and size their base speed is reduced to 20ft). Where they went no one knows ... you might be able to hear them though ... (listen check DC17 to hear #7 ... #8 can even be heard by the crowd as well - #7 and #8 received a -20 penatly for running and +5 bonus due to the crowds noise)

Gunther grins as his muscles begin to grow. But his smile quickly fades as he sees the spider's tactics with the Quad and then the spider approaches their group. "Vell, time to spread out, I suppose..." Gunther heads out to T33 intent on heading up the spider, but hopefully out of the way enough so Figment and Ingrge can do their work. He swallows the large lump in his throat. Looks like this is going to be a little tougher than he thought.

The mage immediately casts stoneskin on K'Nara (130 HP) before doing anytihng else. He immediately prepares to cast again.

With a roar, the power of Domi is released and directed at the onrushing creature(#4). A pillar of fire falls from the sky engulfing the spider in a circle of flames. Bertram prays it will be enough to stop its assault.

((OOC Flamestrike-Saving throw only reduces damage down to 75%. Half of the Damage is divine. Bertram failed the Listen check)

K'Nara easily hears (and sees, thanks to Lucia) the approach of the two Invisible fighters, but they are slow enough, she figures, to not be that much of a threat to the group yet.

"Spread it out, people!" K'Nara roars, starting to run forward and south. "Don't be a target for mage area spells..!" As she runs, the female fighter draws her scimitar. Ending up at P37 on the map, K'Nara hurls her weapon at Spider #4.

(OOC: she not only hits AC34, but it's a Crit hit for a total of 17hpd on the monster spider.)

Ingrge, Seeing how the groups are spread out suggests that the group separate themselves just a bit so as not to all be in the area off effect for any spell.

Checking his range Ingrge grins and casts a spell. However it is apparenbtly not aimed at any of the contestants in the arena. As he finishes cast, a section of the wall above the wizards and their images from A26 - J39 (80ft) thirty feet high and one foot deep suddenly disintigrates into mud and drops down on top of them. Transmute rock to Mud; 39 points of damage, Reflex DC 22 for 20 points: also speed reduce to 5 ft -2 on attacks and -2 on AC.

As the mud settles the two mages find themselves surrounded and swamped by an area of mud 5 ft deep.

Although he hears the approach of two rather loud and slow but unseen opponents, Milo decides to back K'Nara up in her advance, hopefully to be able to get into a position to sneak attack either of the two Wizards. He ends up at U39.

"Good evening, denizens of the degenerate, this is your announcer, Gutmasher Trumtol, and my handy-dandy aerial assistant, Rankor Redcap--providing you commentary for the frightful fight this night! All set to fly in and out of the action, Rankor?"

"Ready and willing, Gut!" answers the annoying Redcap that is obviously the troll announcer's sidekick.

Bertram unleashes the holy might of Domi's Flame Strike on the spider--and the Talons gasp in amazement when the spell seems to be surprisingly effective! (DM OOC: Bert's spell does 40hpd to the spider; anyone with Spellcraft must make a check versus DC20 in order to suddenly realize two things simultaneously: first, the fire part of the spell did NO damage--second, the Divine part of the spell did DOUBLE damage.)

"We have combatants still prepping even though the fight's been on for over five seconds, and--ohhh! My! That was QUITE a spell that just fried the ichor out of one of the Wizards Deux retinue!" Gutmasher calls out to the "oohs" and "aahs" of the crowd. "Can you confirm that spell, there, Rankor?"

"Hey, stumpy--that WAS a Flame Strike, right???" the redcap commentator asks Brother Bertram, who rewards Rankor's ill-mannered question with a glare. "Ummm...I'd say it was, Gut. Good call."


K'Nara's well-aimed scimitar does more damage to the huge arachnid, and three of Olana's arrows finish off the creature, which collapses where it stands, its untossed web settling over the outsized corpse like a shroud.

Ingrge cleverly casts his Transmute Rock to Mud spell, targeting the wall above the pair of obviously evil wizards. Just as he is finished casting, however, he realizes, too late--that it won't work.

And it doesn't. (DM OOC: unfortunately for you, the first sentence of the spell description distinctly says: This spell turns natural, uncut or unworked rock of any sort into an equal volume of mud...and the description of the walls of the Arena is that they are "rough-hewn"...which means that they are crudely worked rock, and, thus, not subject to the spell.)

"Spell fizzle for the out-of-towners, Gut!!!" Rankor crows as he whizzes overhead of the Talons. "These are one set of Claws that just do NOT look too gory!"

"Check out the Wizards Deux, Rankor--they seem to be up to something..." the troll directs his sidekick, and the redcap zips off to the other side of the Arena.


The sets of the wizard images exchange glances and then begin use what looks like a palm-sized round object of some kind. Once they are done, there are two more of the giant spiders on the field...one of them next to Spider #1 and the other even closer to the Talons than the ex-Spider #4.

Spider #1 suffers 11hpd from the attack upon it by Ga'alian #1. It snaps at the warrior with ichor-dripping mandibles as well as slashing at him with two clawed legs... (bite hits AC34 for 18hpd; claws hit AC19 & 32 for 7hpd & 11hpd; if the bite hits, make a Fort Save versus DC24, or suffer initial damage of 3 Constitution points, secondary damage 9 Constitution points.

Spider #2 generates and tosses another web at the Ga'alian Superquad as it goes, hitting AC25 in the area of Ga'alians 2,3,4,5,6,and 8. (Same circumstances for this web as the one before.) Spider #2 continues to charge towards the Arm of Marteaus group, not quite able to get into melee range at this time.

Spider #3 charges at the Arm of Marteaus party, generating and tossing a 20-foot-round web that hits AC30, threatening to trap AoMs 2,3,4 & 6 under it. (The web anchors the target in place, allowing no movement. An entangled creature can escape with a DC 24 Escape Artist check or burst the web with a DC 24 Strength check. Nobody trapped in or under the web can hit it, but those outside the web can attempt to hit it--it has AC1 and 14hp from the outside.)

The new Spider #4 appears next to the Ga'alian Superquad.

The new Spider #5 appears next to the Talons.

"Whoa-ho-ho, Gut! Looks like the Wizards Deux just brought in a couple of new play-ahs!!!" chortles Rankor.

"Why, Rankor, isn't that against the rules???" Gut replies...but both commentators (as well as a large percentage of the audience) then respond:

"There are NO RULES!!!"

And the audience hoots, hollers and cheers.

The leader takes a pounding from Spider 1, but oddly, doesn't seem too badly hurt. Though it is clear that the bite was successful, the man is obviously unaffected by the poison, and he acts as if his physical wounds are only trivial. Ducking and weaving he lashes out with a powerful attack, attempting to cut the legs out from under it, and only hitting with one of his two blows (AC30/19 for 14).

The web lands solidly once again on the group's spellcaster (#3) and one of the fighters(#6). Neither of them are able to free themselves from the web. All of the other Quad members have no problem eluding it.

"Ooo...looks like the spiders' tactic of tossing these webs around are just taking the wind outta the contingent from Aisildur, Gut." Rankor comments.

"Indeed it does, Rankor--" agrees the troll, "--and did you know that the citizens of Aisildur tend to name themselves alphabetically as a sign of their status within their society..?"

"No, Gut, I did not know that." Rankor replies.


A look of concentration on his face, the cleric of Ga'al (#4) casts a spell. Then something very odd happens...slowly, but deliberately he begins to walk into the very air itself!! He climbs about 20 feet up and stands in the air above the other Quad members

Quad member #2 unleashes his first lightening bolt on the newly arrived spider number 4. There is a deafening roar and a blinding flash as the bolt strikes the creature (21 pts. Dam, Ref. DC18 for 1/2). Just like the cleric, he begins to walk into the air above the group (20 feet above the spider).

Now that they are out of the web, the Quad fighers move into action. Warrior #5 takes a 5 foot step and begins swinging at Spider 1...Wham, wham his sword nails the creature with two solid blows (AC28 for 18, AC23 for 16). Having fewer options than the others, Warrior #7 takes a 5 foot step toward the monster (#1) and launches a full attack. Adopting similar tactics to the leader, the warrior attempts to sunder the monster's legs from its body (AC23 for 16). Warrior #8 decides to move into a better (flanking) position and scoots down 20 feet toward Spider 1. Taking a single, powerful swing with her axe, she cuts deeply into the spider (AC30 for 10).

"Ooooh, ow--that's GOTTA hurt!" Rankor booms out, wincing in a dramatic fashion. "It's beginning to actually look like the Aisildurans did, indeed, send in their 'A' team for this one!"

arrgh ... a nasty web falls over the Arm of Marteaus ! Even though the Arms tried to spread a little, four of them are caught under the web.

"Uh-oh, Gut..." Rankor now zips over the struggling Arm of Marteaus party. "...can the tried-and-true web-toss tactic now spell doom for the group representing the Ruling God of the Deities of Testing???"

Rorik (#2), the groups most wicked fighter bursts the web with tremendous strength (nat 20). "For the Power of Marteaus !" he growls as he looks upon both spiders that are in front of him ... Thanks to Rorik's incredible show of force #2, #3 and #6 are liberated from their position.

"And the crowd is just EATING this up, Gut!" Rankor Redcap announces gleefully, flying back and forth. "What an incredible show of strength!!!"

Seeing his fellow fighter bursting the web makes #5 grin widely ... "Bring'm on" he shouts as he engages spider#2. He tries to slice a few pieces of the vermin and strikes three times, yet his first and second hits could not even scratch the beast. Angry that his first attempts failed, he takes an even wilder swing, and this time he's able to deliver some damage

(#5 : hits AC 23 for 7 HP (no critical) )

Suddenly Spider#3 shrieks in agony as she's hit from behind ! Where did that came from ?!?
K'Nara is able to see the Dwarf #7 and the Half-Orc #8 to sneak up behind spider #3 to strike hard. Even though the Dwarf only wields a dagger he's cunning enough to hurt the Spider at a really vital place. Doing so he deliveres A LOT more damage than a dagger is supposed to ! Still, only one sting could really hurt the spider. His second stab struck a think scale and diverted the dagger. The Half-Orc #8 lands his LongSword only to hear a metal "CLAANGGG" ... both Dwarf and Half-Orc look surprised at eachother ... These spiders are a lot tougher than they thought !!

"Spider smackdown going on here, Gut..." the flying sidekick points out, "...but a lot of the damage simply APPEARS as though out of nowhere..!"

"Heh heh...methinks I see...or, rather DON'T see...some invisibility at work, my friend..!" chuckles the troll from his skybox.

"Oooh...you could be right, Gut--good call!"


(#7 : hits AC 24 for 20 hp)

Those who can not see invisible things only see the Spider in pain, and only hear the "CLANG" from a weapon that bounces off. Much to your surprise both #7 and #8 remain invisible. That's not a simple Invisible spell they received !!

During all this Genvieve #1 overlooks the battle ground ... The Aisildurians are pretty busy with those spiders ... the spiders are nothing to worry about "Cannonfodder" she grins wickedly ... those other 8 "out of Towners" look like a bunch of rags ... nothing to waste good magic on ... yet ...

Then she raises her Staff in front of her ! As she does the crowd cheers loudly ! It seems they have seen this Staff before ... you can hear the public go berserk and chant :
Plague ... Plague ... Plague ... Plague ...

"Now this Arm of Marteaus REALLY has the crowd goin', Gut!" Rankor points out. "They want some ACTION from that God of Disease!!!"


Genevieve shouts : " PLAGUE THOU WANTS ! PLAGUE THOU RECEIVES !!!" as releases an Insect Plague for 12 minutes.
Her Plague spell might do a nice amount of damage to the Aisildurians entangled with those two spiders ... she might hurt both groups ...

Four Swarms of Locusts burts out of her Staff ... flying and crawling over the arena floor they are summoned right on top of the Aisildurians possibly hurting Quad #3, 5, 6 and 7 and Spider #4

Seeing clearly that the mages are going to be tough... He decides to hold his major spells for now, hoping some of the other mages will see them as the largest threat and attack. He decides to help out his fighters again before continuing and touches Lian with a Stoneskin and then backs away. "Should'a done this before we got in... (Lian gets 130 HPs)".

Gunther grins at Bertram. "Now dat's da vay!! Do you tink you can do dat again??" Gunther is torn as to what to do. He'd like to stay and engage the spider, but he doesn't want to tie up the mages. K'Nara's brow furrows as she sees the spider get completely consumed (okay...almost completely!) by Brother Bertram's spell. Then her training in the arcane ways of the blade singer come to the fore--it wasn't the fire that harmed the spider...it was the divine damage invoked by the powers of Good!

These aren't just giant spiders, then... the redheaded warrior thought, ...they must be demonic...or infernal...

K'Nara, however, continues with her original plan: closing the distance between herself and the images of the Female Wizard, the human blade singer draws her sword, screams "Lucia!" at the top of her lungs, and then swings at the images to her right and left.

(K'Nara now occupies I36 on the map; her two attacks smack the Female Wizards on either side of her--and they both disappear.)

Bertram manages to recognize the fact that Domi's divine wrath did more to the creature than any fire. Regretting the fact he did not have much left in that area, he quickly prays again, this time calling on a different type of power. "Domi be with me once more..." Bertram lets the power flow through him, training its effects on his comrades.

(DM OOC: I had the post practically finished but then lost it due to my own silly mistake. So I won't recap all the PC actions...I'll just state the effects they have on whatever NPC targets they were aiming for.)

Between K'Nara and Ingrge's attacks, five of the Female Wizard's images disappear.

"And it looks like the Wizards Deux are having their camouflage cut down to size, Gut!" Rankor Redcap announces gleefully from a bird's eye view above the south end of the Arena. "Don't know how those two wacky spellcasters are gonna take this one..!"

The Female Wizard's images target Gunther and K'Nara, letting loose with a Lightning Bolt. Both must make a Reflex Save versus DC21 for 19hp electricity damage.

The Male Wizard spots Ingrge's interference, however, and casts a spell. But, fortunately, Ingrge's Resistance overcomes the Wizard's Feeblemind spell! (OOC: rolled only a 9 versus that 18% Spell Resistance, dangnabbit!)

"Looks to me like someone's getting nasty, Rankor," Gutmasher calls out, "That's a classic Feeblemind spell if ever I saw it!"

"Yes, indeed, Gut--and there it goes--oh! My! Resisted at the last second! What a disappointment!" Rankor announces as the mixed reaction from the crowd includes booing, catcalls, cheering and clapping.


Spider #1 and Spider #4 face off against the Ga'alian Superquad. Spider #1 tosses a web--but it simply crumples up in mid-toss and falls in a bundle, missing everyone in the quad! Spider #4 tosses a web--and though it doesn't fold the way #1's did, it still is only good for AC16.

Spiders #2 and #3 continue their advance, each of them generating & tossing a web. Spider #2's web hits AC22, while Spider #3's web hits AC25.

Spider #5 generates and tosses a web at the Talons group. It hits AC16.

Anyone caught under a web cannot move, but can attempt to break the web with a Strength check or wiggle out from under it with an Escape Artist check versus DC24. People outside the web can attack it (it's AC1 and has 14hp from the outside).

"We've got web-toss mania, boys and girls!" Rankor booms out, "But many of the webs just aren't cutting it this time around!"

"You'd think that spiders would practice that sort of thing in their off-time, wouldn't you, Rank?" Gutmasher adds sagely.

Covered in locusts, the two Quad members stuck in the web writhe and wriggle. However, the plague does very little damage to the warriors, only managing to minimally affect warrior #7.

"That old tried-and-true web-toss is still wreaking havoc on the Quad from Aisildur." the flying powrie comments. "I don't know if they're gonna be able to recover from it, Gut..."

"It isn't a pretty picture, Rank," agrees his troll colleague, "Especially for that spellcaster--double whammy for her!"


From his eye in the sky position, Quad member #2 takes in the battlefield. He smiles as the Talon's slowly whittle down the number of female mages. Could that be a twinkle in his light blue eyes? "Enough play time" he murmurs as he begins casting a spell. A burning wall of fire erupts around the male and female spellcasters of the Duo and Gunther. (It dishes out 8HP of damage to all within 10 feet of the wall and 2HP of damage to all within 20 feet of the wall. Anyone wishing to pass through the wall take 17HP of damage.)

"My, oh my! Just LOOK at that Wall of Fire!" Rankor points out.

"It'll be a hot time in the old town tonight, won't it, Rank?" Gutmasher grins as he speaks. Both of the evil announcers laugh a little too hard.


"That should take care of the rest of the mirror images..." the man chuckles. Looking over at the cleric, he gins. "Alright, Arnor, have fun."

The cleric sports a grin matching Quad member #2's "Oh, I'm sure I will Arnest". He casts a spell with no visible effects...wait a minute, what was that?? Those with keen eyes (Spot DC20) notice the following: Highlight to display spoiler: {After the spell, several of the Quad members appear to get much stronger and the leader begins to look much healthier } Slowly, but surely he begins to walk on the air toward the spider mages.

Having a bit more luck this go round, the Quad's spellcaster finally manages to wriggle free from the webs pinning her in place (Escape=25&32). The warrior #6, however is...yep...still stuck...and now covered in crunchy, biting locusts.

"I don't believe it!" screams an enthusiastic Rankor. "I don't believe it--the Ga'alian spellcaster has managed to free herself through grit and determination!"

"Do YOU believe in miracles???" shouts Gutmasher as the crowd cheers and stomps its feet at the re-emergence of the mage from Aisildur.


Meanwhile, down on the ground, the battle with the spider intensifies...

Apparently tiring of the game with Spider #1, the Quad's leader (#1) begins to climb the air around him (drawing an AoO from spider #1) and simply steps up on top of the air above the spider's back. Staying a couple of feet in the air above the monster's body, the warrior lines up his shot...downward into the spider's head. He just barely makes the shot (AC23 for 18) Donna, not sure if the leader's positioning would deny the spider his Dex bonus...if so, then add 6 more pts. of damage

Warrior #5, bolstered by his leader's bold move takes a 5 foot step out of the locusts and lashes out once more at the spider. Once again, he connects with 2 solid blows, this time inflicting much more damage on the spider (AC29 for 19, AC 23 for 19).

Warrior #7 is basically stuck in his position of the plague swarm, and so does the best he can with what he has. He moves 15 feet within the swarm, careful not to draw an AoO from Spider #1, and then slices at Spider#4 but misses.

Warrior #8 watches the Quad leader with something nigh on lust. Snapping back to reality, she takes a 5 foot step toward Spider #4 and launches a full attack Her axe slices back and forth a full 5 times, but only one of the attacks connects (AC34/17 for 7dam.)

"These spiders are taking a terrific pounding, Gut!" Rankor says excitedly. "I've never seen anything like it! How much longer can this possibly go on???"

"Not much longer, if that first spider is anything to judge by, Rank..." Gutmasher responds, "...it's lost two legs and it's dangerously swaying..."

Rorik's display of strength could not save the Arm's from a second web attack by the spiders. This time TWO webs are thrown and threathens to entangle Genevieve (#1), #3, #4 and #6. Genevieve simply laughs at this puny attempt to trap her as she simply walks those webs (freedom of movement). The others however are now covered in thick sticky threads ... unable to move once again (only a natural 20 could have freed them).

"Oooo, no--a lot of the Arm of Marteaus group is stuck under those danged webs the spiders love to toss around--" Rankor announces loudly.

"I wonder if they all work for a pizza place between fights..?" cracks Gutmasher.

"But, oh, hey--the ever-willful Genevieve is untouched! She's walking free and proud--and none too thrilled with this turn of events."

"Ouch! A Cleric of Marteaus with a mad on! I'm glad I'm not a contestant today, Rank!"

"Ditto, Gut!"


Genevieve speaks foul curses aimed at both spiders and commands her warriors to finish them ... she on the other hand must observe the battle grounds and wreak havoc elsewhere.

#2 just barely got out of the way of the webs and instead of freeing his entangled friends he charges spider#3. He raises his GreatClub and starts bashing the vermin. With incredible force he unleashes three lethal blows doing terrible effect ! The Spider takes 27 HP from this first two hits. But then a flash of disruptive energy resonates between Spider#3 and Arms#2 doing an extra 16 HP damage to Spider#3 but it also hurts Arm's#2 himself doing 6 HP of damage !!

"Speaking of spiders, Rank," Gut says in a non-sequitir, "I had a marilith girlfriend once who was a worshipper of spiders...used to sacrifice all kinds of critters to them, if you'd believe."

"Actually, Gut, I find it VERY hard to believe."

"You find it hard to believe that she'd worship spiders?" the troll asks.

"No..." Rankor deadpans. "...I find it hard to believe she'd be your girlfriend!"


Invisible #7 notices the incredible force Arm#2 is showing and descides to sneak up on Spider#2. Again he's able to sneak in behind the vermin and stabs her painfully in the belly ... Spider#2 bleeds heavily ... black blood drips from the rogues dagger. Too bad only a few can watch this onslaught !

Invisible Arm#8 prepares to attack as well ... he clicks his heels together and continues to persue spider#3. Oddly enough he walks much faster than normal !(haste 10rounds) Then he swings his longsword once again. Two mighty swings connect effectively removing a few scales of the spider ...

As Genevieve sees multiple hits do damage to the spiders she takes a look around ... she fails to notice anything in peculiar about the Quads. "Looks like a few of those Green Claws have nasty spells on them ... time to play ..."

Genevieve waves her hands and calls upon the powers of Marteaus. A little yellow ball appears in her hand and she throws it towards the Talons ! As it comes closer to them the balls grows larger and larger ... transforming into a yellowish green fog ! 40ft radius and 40ft high !!! (Genevieve has Widen Spell feat - forgot that last turn with the plague - lucky Quad !)

"Leapin' lacedons!!!" shouts Rankor. "Looks like the little cleric is pulling out her heavy ammunition, Gut!"

"Indeed, yes, Rank--that's one nasty-lookin' Cloudkill she's got going there!"


The fumes from the fog are highly toxic and life threatening (! Cloudkill !) for Olana, Lian, Ingrge and Brother Bertram. It also intoxicates Spider#5 !

(As you are all higher than lvl 6 you do not die instantly :-) Every turn you are inside the cloud, you may make a fortitude save DC19. If you fail you take 1d4 Constitution Damage. A succesfull save halves this damage. Holding your breath doesn't work. If you are immune to poison you are unnafected by the cloud. I do not know about the spider ... )

Seeing the mages get active and that there are invisible opponents on the field AND that he is currently not in sight of any of the mages, he casts Improved Invisibility on himself and prepares to cast again. Seeing the fighters get healed (Spot DC 21) he bellows loudly "The Quad just healed themselves!" in hopes the judges hear it.

Startled, Bertram quickly steps back from the nasty cloud, fortunately at the very fringe of its effectiveness. He clears his eyes then realizes what exactly happened. He quickly grabs Ingrge pulling him back from the edge, making sure the mage is alright, shuddering to think what could have occured. Bertram looks back realizing his vision is blocked by the large thick cloud of haze. He then looks at Ingrge, with a slight grin. "Friend Ingrge they cant see us either..." He lets that comment hang for a moment to see if Ingrge has any spells to take advantage of it. While waiting if he sees any of his other companions he will grab them immediately from the fog's reach. He draws his axe and readies himself.

(OOC: Reflex Save 29 for only 19hpd from the lightning bolt; used up that Triple Blessing. K'Nara also suffers 12hp fire damage from her proximity to the Wall before and after she moves.)

The human blade singer dances out of the way of the lightning bolt, minumizing the damage it does...then feels the effects of Lian's Seal. Grinning, she flies over the Wall of Fire and sights her target: the lone Female Wizard, whose other Mirror Images have now disappeared.

However, she also sights that Gunther is close to the Female Wizard, and thus changes her mind and just dive-bombs towards the Male Wizard, landing at F30 and whacking at the man instead. (OOC: moving, attacking and hitting AC31 for 11hpd and 3hp fire damage.)

DM OOC: There is only one Female Wizard and one Male Wizard left within that Wall of Flame.

Being at the edge of the cloud seems to have helped Ingrge as he easily avoids the majority of the fumes (Fortitude 31) and is pulled to the side exiting the bit of cloud he was in. Nodding at Bertam's comment he tosses a potion to the dwarf (blur) as he lets the fly spell lift him above the cloud.

Taking careful aim Ingrge throws a spell right back at the Marteans targeting the area right behind #6 (P-6) and suddenly from out of the ground, reaching in a 20 foot radius area, are a full field of 10 ft long black tenacles that are whipping around grabbing at everything in their reach #1, #4, #3, #6, #2, spider 3 and any invisible individuals in the area. All creatues in area must make an opposed grapple check DC 34 - if grappled all take 8 points of damage this round and must make an opposed grapple check each round there after inorder to escape or continue being crushed. Evard's Black Tentacles

With the lightening bolt headed straight for his chest, it looks like Gunther is literally going to be toast when at the very last second he manages to roll out of the way of most of the damage (used hero point to reroll for 21). He grunts as the bolt singes his skin, but he continues to stalk the female wizard. And then the walls of flame rise up around them. Gunther grunts in pain (2hp taken). But his grimace turns to a ear to ear grin as he finds that he is merely 5 feet away from the mage. Taking his step, Gunther swings his sword with a vengeance (AC32 for 15, AC21 for 11, AC26 for 12, AC19 for14). He looks over at K'nara and her dive bomb tactics...Oooo she's good!!! Feeling very satisfied at his attacks, Gunther feels that perhaps just a little taunting is in order. "Not so hot vithout your little pets around, are you?!"

The appearance of the cloudkill snaps Milo out of his daze, and the halfling clicks his heels before racing across the battlefield toward K'nara and the Wall of Fire. As he moves, his holy short sword practically leaps from its scabbard to the halfling's hand, "How do we get Gunther out of there?" Milo pauses momentarily, contemplating a leap through the wall of flame to assist his friend and ally. (OOC: Milo's speed jumps to 50 feet for the round.)

"Hold the magic message ring, Gut!" Rankor Redcap chirps. "One of the Green Claws has called a foul on the Ga'alian Superquad!"

"I see that the Necromancer is checking out the spell in question, Rank." the troll replies. "I'm thinking that there's something fishy going on--the ONLY rule in this Arena is no healing, and if the Ga'alians have broken it--"

"We're gonna see guts fly, my friend!" the powrie cackles. However, the Necromancer murmurs something Gutmasher's way and the troll announces with more than a little surprise in his voice:

"Varlots and villains--it seems that the spell in question was actually 'Divine Favor'...which technically does NOT heal--it merely adds extra hit points to what is already existing. The Necromancer rules--the Ga'alians are NOT cheating!"

Boos and cheers mix as part of the crowd is for the Ga'alians and others are rooting for the other groups.


Spider #1's Attack of Opportunity on Ga'alian #1 hits AC32 for 15hpd and now G#1 must Fort Save versus DC24 or suffer initial 1 Constitution damage and then 8 secondary damage to Constitution. It is only the fact that Spiders have compound eyes and can see a lot better peripherally than humans can that saves the Spider from the extra damage that G#1's attack otherwise would inflict.

Spider #4 suffers a little bit of damage as well.

"That first spider is all but dead, Gut." the flying dark fey yells out.

"But what fighting spirit! It just won't say 'DIE'!" Gut answers enthusiastically.


Spider #2 is now severely injured but still in fighting form.

Spider #3 is injured.

Spider #5 is unharmed so far (OOC: made its Fort Save with 28.)

"It's very hard to see through that sickly vapor, Gut, but I think that spider in there is definitely still standing!" announces Rankor.

Spider #1 generates and tosses another web at the Ga'alians #4 & #8. The web hits AC17.

Spider #4 generates and tosses another web at Ga'alians 3, 5, 6 & 7. The web hits AC22.

Spiders #2 & #3 turn and face each other, then they back straight up 10 feet each. They each generate a web and toss it directly in front of them in precise unison--it's like they're telepathically linked or something!

[b]"And still more giant webs getting tossed, Gut!" booms out Rankor. "Look at the timing--the precision...it's like these spiders can read each other's minds!"


Spider2's web encompasses the area that includes A#5 & A#7 and it hits AC14. Spider3's web encompasses the area that includes A#2 and A#8 and it hits AC18.

Spider5 generates and tosses a web that encompasses Lian, Bertram and Ingrge. The web hits AC18. Spider5 makes another Fort Save at 25.

"What about the Wizards Deux, Rank? I can't see too well, thanks to that fire all around!" Gutmasher complains.

"Wish I could help ya, friend," Rankor apologizes, "But that heat is just too much for my fragile wasp wings to take. We can only guess what's going on in there..."


Meanwhile, hidden within the confines of the Wall of Fire, K'Nara and Gunther battle the Wizards Deux. K'Nara did some damage, but Gunther's blows draw a decidedly different reaction from his foe:

"He has a blessed weapon!" screeches the female wizard. "Slay him NOW!!!"

The female wizard's hand flashes out to slap Gunther in the face...but both blows don't even come close! (OOC: hits AC9 and AC6. sheesh)

The male wizard casts a spell--and another Lightning Bolt zaps at both K'Nara and Gunther! They must save versus DC21 for only 16hpd--failing means they suffer 31hpd.

"WOW!" shrieks Rankor. "One of the wizards means business--that was another Lightning Bolt, Gut!"

The poisonous clouds rolls 10ft along the ground drawing closer to the wall engulfing Brother Bertham for the second time
(ooc Inge : sorry, but you didn't specify you were going to fly like Ingrge, and a few others did - Make a Fortitude save vs DC 19 once more or you get 1 CON damage. If you succeed you get nothing.) Spider #5 not blessed with a fly spell remains helpless inside the cloud. (same saving throw)

"Well, that cloud just continues to spread the joy, Gut...I wouldn't want to be on the ground at this moment..." Rankor states the obvious.

Meanwhile on the other side of the arena, the plagues rage on ... (ooc : forgot those last round you lucky Quad).

but is no more but a nuisance to those still inside.

Both spiders continue to harass the Arms trying to trap their offenders. A#5, A#7 and A#2 are nimble enough to avoid the sticky threads, but the invisible Half-Orc#8 is less lucky ... he hangs upside down and completely invisible in a web ... he'll have to shout for his friends to come for they can't see him either :-)

To make things a little worse foul tentacles sprout from the ground endangering several of the Arms.

"Woo-hoo-hoo!" chortles the flying commentator. "Looks like one of the mages on the field has gone for the ol' reliable--tentacles that just don't know when to quit!"

"I doubt the Arm of Marteaus is any too happy now, Rank!" Gut replies.


Arms #3, #4 and #6 are immobilised in a web those vile spiders threw on top of them last turn and are pummeled by the tentacles. (all take 8hp).

Arms #2's luck conintues. First he avoided the web, then he also manages to dodge the tentacles. As he's on the edge of their reach he can easily step away from it, moving backwards to free his friends. Time has come to use ALL power's the Arms of Marteaus hold.

He takes a vicious grin at Spider#3 and swings his GreatClub mercilessly down on the "poor" creature !

Arms#5 turns around to free his companions. The time has come to use the Arms of Marteauses full capacity ! He sets them free by cutting away the web.

"Wow! Thanks to the efforts of their buddy, the members of the Arm of Marteaus can try to escape those pummeling tentacles!" Rank announces, with mixed reaction from the crowd.

Invisible Arms#7 sneaks up to spider#2 once again to stab it in the belly.

Genevieve laughs madly when she sees the Tentacles rise from the ground and yells out to Ingrge : " you think that can hurt ME ?!?! ... WHWUUHAAHHAHA .... See if you can still cast ! You RAT ! "

Looks like the Quad's luck is running out...

The leader, reels in pain from the spider's bite...and a very odd thing happens...it looks like Quad members #6, 7 and 8 are also weakened by the poison.

"Looks like what's good for the goose is good for the gander, Gut," Rankor booms out, "When one of the Ga'alians hurts, they ALL hurt, it seems..."

As webs fly once more, the spellcaster is yet again caught up in another pesky web. "And boy does she look ticked..!" the tiny dark fey crows from on high.

The spellcaster wriggles and she worms, but this time she just can't get out of the web. And shock, gasp looks like Warrior #6 isn't going anywhere anytime soon, considering that he is covered with three webs now.

Though the plague completely encloses several Quad members, they don't manage to bother any of them significantly.

The rest of the Quad remain unaffected by the webs.

Though clearly weakened by the spider's bite, the leader of the Quad stays resolutely on top of the spider...determined to put it to death. "By Ga'als glory, you will die!" he calls out as he slices into the beast twice, connecting once (AC29 for 12). "Take out more legs!!" he barks out to the rest of the Quad.

With a rather confident look on his face, the hide armored Quad member (#2) begins casting another spell. A huge column of fire engulfs spider #4 (Flame Strike) (25 dmg....Refl. DC17 for half). He then moves out of the area.

With a sinster, evil glint in his eyes, the Quad's cleric (#4) casts a spell and moves in closer to the edge of the Wall of Flame...apparently in anticipation of next round.

Just a reminder, Donna...Quad member #2 and 4 are still walking in the air, about 20 feet above the ground...that's an awful high toss for a web.

With a nod of his golden locks, Quad member #5 acknowledges the leader's order. With a smile, he begins hacking away at the spider's legs. (AC25 for 20, AC26 for16)

"Oh, me, oh MY! Don't look now, Gut, but it's time for Spider Sushi!!!" Rankor jokes. A lot of the audience is cheering about the violence, but some of them are groaning at the horrible humor.

Seeing nothing but spots for a few seconds after the flame strike, the Quad member recovers and quickly gets back to business. Noting the success of the rest of his party, Quad member #7 figures sundering the legs might be the way to go. He too hacks at the beastie's legs, but he doesn't seem to be quite as powerful as his other teammates. Though he manages to connect with one of his blows, it doesn't look like he'll be successful in taking off the leg (AC23 for 12).

As waves of heat from the flame strike wash over her, Quad member #8 smiles. "Time to get busy!" she calls out as she takes a 5 foot step toward Spider #4. And then, once more her double axe is twirling and slicing...and once more, it proves mostly ineffective, as out of 5 attacks, only one strikes home (AC24 for 5).

"This Superquad is determined to give it their all, Gut, and the crowd just LOVES 'em for it!" Rankor bellows enthusiastically.

Through his spell resistance and his strong will Ingrge ignores the silence spell (Will DC 29) and immediately casts a fire ball at Genevieve. 46 points, reflex DC 22 for 1/2 damage, spell resistance 30 as the fireball dissipates, genevieve sees that she is now standing in the middle of a 20 ft radius circle of glass, as the fine sand was fused together by the great heat.

{ooc Inge : what's the glass doing to genevieve ? Is it just the ground that turned to glass ? I'm knew so I have to ask you for some explanation - you can mail me or post it. I'll remove the explanation afterwards (I don't know how many of you have editing) - thanks )

Gunther sighs in relief as K'nara's attack strikes home. That coulda been nasty! Man, she sure does look good when she's sweaty... Shaking his head, Gunther tries to focus on the job at hand.

Hmmmm...probably shouldn't present such a good target... Gunther takes a five foot step out of the line of the male wizard (F33). The wizard could still get him next round, but at least that'd make him work for it. Maybe he'd be able to take out his partner first... Gunther swings his sword, dodging, weaving...looking for openings...and finding several. (AC23 for 14+6flame, AC28/19 for 14+1flame, AC12, AC24 for 17+5shock)

OOC oops forgot flame and shock rolls last round.

The mage completely shrugs off any potential effects of the silence (DC 30 - perfect 20) and doesn't let it distract him. Seeing that all of his comrades have made it out of the cloud or are getting there, he sets his eyes on their opponents, liking the fact that they are expending most of their energy against each other and not the Talons for now. He flies out to be closer to the cleric holding his spell (Quad #4) so he can get a good shot (P25, about 30' up). He blasts him with a ray of black crackling energy in hopes he loses his spell (Enervation, ranged touch attack AC 26, loses 4 levels - no save).

Marteans 3, 4, & 6 all Take an additional 9 points damage. They each need to make opposed grapple checks DC 34 in order to escape. If they get loose, they are reduced to 1/2 speed and are subject to futher tentacle attacks.

K'Nara sees the male wizard begin to cast his Lightning Bolt and whirls the fiery Lucia into an Attack of Opportunity--striking the spellcaster hard enough to make him fumble his spell!!! (OOC: hits AC35 for 16hpd plus 5hp fire damage; the male Wizard failed his concentration check with a natural 1. This means he lost the spell AND Gunther didn't suffer ANY damage from the Bolt.) The human blade singer continues her usual attacks on the spellcaster, but only one blow actually lands on the slippery fella. (OOC: hits AC32 for 14hpd and 6 fire damage.) Her presence within the Wall of Fire continues to cause her heat damage (2hp.)

Bertram again steps out of the annoying cloud, making sure to stay away from the drift...He then regretfully uses another of his precious spells granted by Domi. A strange liquid syllable leaves his lips and again flames shoot downward engulfing Genevieve. Bertram now prays it is effective.

Spider #4 failed its save and suffers full damage from the Flame Strike.

Spider #1 is nothing but scattered body parts.

"Oooo--ouch! Say sayonara to THAT spider, Gut!" Rankor announces. "First kill goes to the Ga'alian Superquad..!" The crowd cheers and stomps, although a few boos and hisses are scattered here and there.

Spider #2 generates and tosses a web in the direction of A#7; it hits AC14.

Spider #3 generates and tosses a web in an effort to engulf A#2 (and A#8, but he's already immobilized, so he automatically gets a second web on top of the first one); it hits AC27.

Spider #4 generates and tosses a web in an effort to engulf G#1, 5, 6, 7 & 8; it completely misses everybody (OOC: rolled ANOTHER natural 1!!!!)

"And another one of those webs goes horribly awry!" the redcap announcer points out as the deceptively strong web folds in mid-toss and falls to the side.

"Yeah, Rank, those things are nasty when they hit," Gutmasher agrees, "But they gotta hit first!"


Spider #5 emerges from the poisonous fog and is making for the Ga'alian Superquad.

Both the Female and the Male Wizards attempt to strike both Gunther and K'Nara, but at ACs 7 & 4 and 23 & 17, neither of them connect.

"I can't see well, but I think that the Wizards Deux have turned into face-slappin' fools." Rankor bellows. "Though what they can possibly do to other humans by slapping them is beyond me..!"

"Maybe it's some obscure human custom..?" the troll responds, shrugging. "Like...uhhh...not eating their young..?"

As the spiders have a rough time of flinging their webs, the Ga'alian mage appears to be on the upswing once more. She wiggles and she worms until she is free once more. Her hair and robes completely covered in tattered web goop, she rises to her feet.

Rankor Redcap comes whizzing up to the newly-freed mage, holding a stick-amplifier (through which his commentary had been automatically sent to Gut and the audience).

"Tell me, now that you're free--are you finally actually going to DO something to help your teammates out, are you just going to stand there like a dummy?" the insulting little fey asks.


Now covered in three full webs, Quad member #6 shouts out something, but with all that muck around him, it's completely unintelligible.

Roaring in triumph, the Quad leader hold his bloodied sword up. "For Ga'al's divine love!" Savoring his brief moment of victory, the dark warrior quickly sobers. "Cut Amor out. I've got some business to attend to..." With a look as black as his armor and hair, the warrior walks on the air and engages Spider #4. With a terrible swing of his blade, he slices into the creature, causing massive damage (AC32/20 for 37+7). Note that the leader is still about 2 feet above the top of the spider's side

Figment's ray races across the arena and slams into the cleric of Ga'al's chest (#4). His smug smile instantly changes into a look of pain and fear as his lifeforce is ripped from his body. His beautiful platinum locks lose their sheen and deep bags form under his eyes. For just a couple of seconds, it looks as if he's going to make chase...but then he turns, steps 5 up and 5 feet over the wall of fire and then walks "down" the air to stand behind the male spider mage. With a look of careful concentration, he reaches out to touch the spellcaster. It takes everything he's got, but somehow the cleric manages to grab hold of the elusive mage (Touch=20). Negative energy floods into the spellcaster's body, threatening to kill him (Fort DC18 or be struck dead. 18 hp of damage if successful...SRvs15). Figment, I looked and looked, but a held touch attack is not subject to a concentration check.

"Interesting choice of attack, Gut, what would you say it was..?" Rankor asks his colleague. The troll strokes his chin.

"Hmmm--hard to say, Rank. I've seen enough of these duels to hazard a guess, but I'm not a spellcaster--I'm just an announcer."


A look of horror floods over the hide armored warrior of Ga'al (#3) as he watches his friend being struck down by Figment's ray. His face contorts into a look of rage as he calls down a lightening bolt on the mage (SRvs16...what's Figment's SR anyway??? 15 dam. Refl. DC18 for 1/2). "You little maggot!!! You'll pay for that!" Rising another 10 feet in the air, the warrior begins to walk in Figment's general direction.

"Ooo...ooo...looks like SOMEbody's hunting for some payback!" Rankor cackles gleefully.

Being fairly close, Quad member #5 takes a five foot step forward and begins cutting warrior #6 out of the webs entagling him. He slices at the web twice, cutting two of the layers off his comrade (AC20 for 22, AC15 for 22). Warrior #7 joins in the cause, and cuts the remain webs free (AC15 for 18, AC16 for 13). Relief washes over the spiked chain warrior (#6) as he rises to her feet after what seems like an eternity of being cocooned.

With a lustful thrust of her pelvis, Quad member #8 welcomes the arrival of the Quad leader. "Come to join me in a little fun, eh Alaster?" she drips seductively. The Quad leader licks his lips, apparently enjoying the attention. Egged on by his advances, the warrioress steps closer to the spider and lashes out again...but this time with much better results, carving into the spider a couple of times (AC30 for 14, AC25 for 16).

"Hey, now--what that stuff!!!" Rankor Redcap warns G#8. "You can hack, slash and torture to your heart's content, but we run a FAMILY-ORIENTED Arena of Death here!!!"

Seeing the virtually undestructible spiders continuing their attacks the Arms warriors look to each other ... "How can we stop these monsters?" clearly appears on their faces.

"The favorite sons of Izen are in a quandary, Gut!" Rankor points out.

"Well, they've been taking a pounding at the, ahhh, hands of these huge spiders, Rank," the troll responds, "And those arachnids are clearly capable of taking a licking and keepin' on kickin'...!"


For the third time sticky threads are thrown at them. Arms #2 and #8 are captured by the webs and are once again immobilised. Neither of them succeeds to burst the web and are sacrificed to the mercy of the spider.

Arms#7 will not surrender soo easily to these monsters and invisible as he is, he tries to take another swing at the spider (tries to flank her).

At last Arms #3, #4 and #6 can try to escape the grappeling tentacles. They can not do so without taking yet another pounding.

Only arms #4 manages to break loose from the tentacles grasp and can move out of their range.

Genevieve has had better days ...

First she feels engulfed in a terrible fireball doing massive damage to her ! (save failed ! 46 hp damage)
When the flames dissapear you see her standing blackened in a field of glass !! Then only seconds later a flame strike knocks her off her feet again !!! (save succeeded - 24hp damage)

She's clearly in a lot of pain ...
Yet her day isn't over yet !

She tries to move out of the field of glass, but slips !! She falls flat on her backside !
Then as she tries to get up again, her legs are soo wobbly from all that has happend in these few seconds that she falls again !! oh oh ... this goes wrong ...

"Can things possibly get any worse for that poor little cleric of Marteaus..?" Rankor booms out. "She's fallen...and she CAN'T get up!"

"Indeed, it looks like she's having a bad day, Rank." Gutmasher says. "In fact--speaking of bad days:

"Friends--are YOU having a hard time? Your boss just won't let you be the one holding that cat-o-nine tails over the slaves' heads? Your neighbor refuses to shut his hellhounds up during the day while you're trying to sleep? Your girlfriend's father sic the family wyvern on you to 'discourage' your romantic intentions?

"The answer to all of the above is a visit to Madam Gringka! Madam Gringka is an accomplished witch and able to cast any kind of curse, from subtle to fatal. When YOU have a problem--it's Madam Gringka for ALL your cursing needs..!"


Arms#5 sees another web engulf his friends, so he rushes over there to free them as quickly as possible, avoiding the grappling arms of the tentacles.

Effectively freeing his friends he smiles wickedly on the spider ... only the sight of his leader makes his face go grey.

The warrior grins wickedly at the effectiveness of his recent attacks. He laughs at the female wizard's attacks. "Is dat de best you've got?? Here, let me show you how it is done." Gunther steals a quick look in K'nara's direction and marvels at the mixture of flexibility and strength in her attacks. By the gods, she's good! Just look at those arms...that neck... Olana attempts to see through the fire then she can get at one of those mages. But then one of the horrible spiders (Spider 5?) comes crawling around, only 10ft away.
She uses her arrows on the creature instead. This was gonna get gory.

Almost feeling pity for Genevieve, but not quite Ingrge grabs his staff from his quiver of Elhonna (free action) and leveling it at the mage lets loose a charge sending three short rays at the now seated mage. Scorching ray. As Quad #3 approaches and clearly cannot see him (based on his 'sweeping' eyes - Spot 23) the mage decides to offer him a taste of his magic. Another ray of intense black crackling energy explodes into the chest of the would-be assailant (Hero point for re-roll of 1). Immediately upon casting, he changes location (V23 - increase in altitude of 10') before he closes and watches Spider #5, Olana, and of course, his new found friend (Quad #3).

OOC: I don't know if the DM's didn't want me and Figment in the same spot, P25, but Lian HAD moved there too. I actually hadn't read Fig's post before today, so I had no idea he was going there too. Besides, he's invisible, how could Lian have know? :)

Hoping to assist Gunther in end his fight as quickly as possible, Milo clicks his heels, and then with as much speed as he can muster using the boots of speed, the halfling charges through the wall of fire (to F35), and flanking the female wizard, lays into her with his own brand of fury. (OOC: Not sure how much damage I'm taking from the wall. Someone let me know. Milo hits ACs 28 and 29 for 29 hit points damage and 37 hit points damage respectively [assuming she is evil] otherwise only 24 and 25 hit points of damage. He used his extra standard action from haste to move, and then a full attack action upon arrival.)

Ingrge moves to his new location (please clarify his elevation.)

The attacks launched on Spider#4 do damage.

Figment's Enervation effects the Ga'alian cleric, but the cleric makes a successful attack anyway...K'Nara looks on in horror and amazement as--instead of harming the Male Wizard she's facing--the man instead seems to be healed! (OOC: the Male Wizard actually recovers all of his hit points lost in the combat so far!)

The male Wizard turns partially and seizes the Ga'alian cleric by the throat, laughing maniacally (OOC: natural 20.)

"Foolish man! You can be my shield now!!!" the male Wizard announces gleefully and turns back to K'Nara, who is able to strike the Wizard in an Attack of Opportunity (OOC: hits AC32 for 17hpd and 2hp fire damage.) He has the Ga'alian cleric dangling like a doll from his grip. (OOC: the cleric must Fort Save versus DC22 or become lifeless.)

"Oh, boy, Gut--we're getting down and dirty now!" the excited voice of Rankor booms out over the Arena. "Seems that the Ga'alian cleric's in a stranglehold by the male half of the Wizards Deux--and the wizard is using him as a shield against the leader of the Green Claws of Gore!"

"Hmmm...odd that a mere Wizard has that kind of strength, don't you think, Rank..?" questions the troll.

"No, what's odd is that you're able to find your way to the Arena without getting lost, Gut!" quips the powrie, launching an argument between the two announcers that makes both of them lose the next sequence of events.


K'Nara's eyes narrow in suspicion...then widen in stunned recognition.

"Liches!!!" she screams out to Gunther and any who can hear her. "The Wizards...are liches!!!" Her next couple of blows miss both the male Lich and the hostage cleric he dangles in front of him as a shield.

Milo suffers 17hpd from the flames of the Wall of Fire.

Spider #2 seems to shudder all over, turns to face A#7--in spite of the fact that he's still quite invisible to most people, and then just literally JUMPS on top of him--striking with a bite (AC32 for 20hpd plus causing A#7 to make a Fort Save vs DCDC 24, or suffer 1 point of initial CON damage, and then secondary CON damage of 7 points) and two claws (hits AC15 & 25 for 9hpd and 9hpd.)

"Looks like Shortcake's got a world of hurt put on him!" Rankor cracks wise about the invisible dwarf.

"Not that anyone without the power to See Invisible can tell without you saying, Rank." Gutmasher points out in a sour voice--apparently he'd lost the previous argument.


Spider #3 moves to the helpless A#8--he's completely ensnared in at least two webs and has no way to save himself from the horrible coup de grace the huge arachnid delivers. Ichor-drenched mandibles yawn wide over the web-wrapped head and the spider chomps down on her victim's head, instantly killing the helpless foe!

Spider #4 has fight in her yet--she turns her own full attention on G#1 and attacks him with all her energy! Her full attack upon G#1 is a bite (natural 20--the possible Crit Hit is AC27--that will be 16hpd, plus the Fort Save vs DC24 or be poisoned, suffering initial 5 point CON damage and then secondary CON damage of 2 points) and two claw attacks (hits AC24 & 25 for 9hpd and 9hpd.)

Spider #5 ignores Olana completely, despite the numerous and well-aimed arrows that pierce its hide--it's as though it's answering a silent cry for help from its fellow spider! #5 generates a web and tosses it at the insect-infested group of Ga'alians...potentially engulfing numbers 5 through 8...but it hits AC17. (It was, indeed, injured by Bertram, but it seems to be answering the call of one of its brethren.)

"Just LOOK at the determination of that spider, Gut!" Rankor bellows, pointing out the single-mindedness of the creature. "Some dead-on arrows and a very nasty cleric spell, but it STILL goes to help its...um...sister."

"Most spiders are female, yes," the troll announcer agrees, "Though not all of them...but you DO have to admire its tenacity! It just won't say die."


The male "Wizard" shoves the cleric in his grip at K'Nara, being completely defensive with the human in his clutches.

The female "Wizard" continues to try to slap Gunther, missing both times.

Though it is clear that several of the locusts manage to work their way past the Quad's defenses, the spellcaster doesn't even seem to register the attack. And even though warrior #8 does notice, the damage doesn't seem to bother her in the least.

The flung web does the spiders little good as all of the Quad members simply step out of its path.

"You know, Gut," the redcap fey jests, "I don't think I'd actually EAT at the pizza joint those spiders might work at--they can't seem to toss those webs too effectively during the crunch..!"

Her face bright with the excitement of unrestricted movement, the mage(#3) moves quickly out of the area and begins to cast a spell. Suddenly the Quad members begin to move faster.

"Why, just LOOK who decided to join the fight!" Rankor teases the spellcaster. "Is that a wand in your pocket, honey--or are you just glad to see me?"

Several stone flakes fall to the ground as the spider launches a massive attack on the black warrior(#1). The bite barely manages to connect and seems to do a minimal amount of damage. The two claws bounce harmlessly off his armor. And by the looks of it, the poison doesn't seem to affect him. He doesn't even appear to have worked up a sweat yet!! Looking down at the spider at his feet, he laughs cruelly as he swings his sword. "All will fall at Ga'al's might! None can stand before his glory!!" But as if by some divine answer to his prophesy, EVERY single one of his attacks falls short!!

"I think Ga'al's a little too busy to be bothering with these guys, Gut." Rankor comments with a harsh snicker.

Watching his lightning fizzle and not hearing the screams he was expecting, the hide armored warrior (#2)scowls, searching the air around him...when suddenly another black ray rips through the arena air...and this time slams into his own chest! He opens his mouth to scream, but the sheer force of the ray has rendered him breathless. His body slumps and he clutches his chest in agony as years of experience, practice, and life are sucked from his body. Tears of pain form in his eyes as he forces his broken body to straighten. His eyes cast about for the location of the ray throwing spellcaster, but to no avail (Geez...natural 1!!). Spotting the monk directly up above him, the enervated warrior briefly considers calling lightening down on him, but then reconsiders at the last minute. Gathering his wits about him, he activates a ring on his hand, and suddenly looks much less substantial (blink). Then he begins to walk on the air toward the elven woman on the ground (Olana).

With his newly dulled mind, the cleric (#4) clearly cannot even fathom what has just happened. His body immediately stiffens at the mere touch of the liche, and he is thrown around like a rag doll.

Seeing as all of their comrades are finally out of the entangling webs, all of the warriors move out of the plagued area. Warrior's #5 and 7 peel out to attack the newly arrived Spider #5, while 6 and 8 move in for the kill on Spider #4.

Moving with amazing speed, the duo of Warrior's 5&7 hack away at spider #5. Warrior #5 swings mightily and hacks into the spider with an amazing critical hit (AC38/37 for 27+7shock). Not to be out done, his partner swings true with his bastardsword, though not doing near the damage to the monster (AC29 for 8).

Warrior #6 takes a 5 foot step toward Spider #4, taking full advantage of his reach weapon. With magically enhanced speed, he whips his spiked chain out three times... It must be the spider's lucky day, because only his last strike connects, inflicting a minimal amount of damage (AC22 for 10). Warrior #8 laughs heartily at the redcap's rebuke and merely blows him kisses. Taking a 5 foot step toward Spider#4, she swings her double axe viciously, intending to recover for her leader. And unlike the blustering leader, she follows through, nailing Spider #4 with two critical hits and another blow (AC36/35 for 26, AC26/25 for 26 and AC30 for 16).

"I think I'm in love, Gut!" Rankor says gushingly, batting eyes at G#8.

"What? Again?"

Bad day ... real bad day ...

As Ingrge moves closer to Genevieve, she looks at him in panic ... she's helpless ! "NO ! This can not be true !! Why oh why my God have you abandoned me in this fight ... "
Then her cries are silenced as three scorching rays fall down on her ... Ingrge incinerates the once soo proud cleric of Marteaus leaving nothing but a blackened pile of bones.

"And the crowd goes wild!" Rankor Redcap orbits the smoking heap that used to be Genevieve.

"Looks like yet another God of Testing put his cleric on 'hold', Rank..." Gutmasher adds somberly.


But this bad day isn't over yet. Not only did the Arms of Marteaus just loose their leader, Spider#3 just had Arms#8 for lunch ... as he sees the spiders jaws approaching he cries out in terror : "AAARGRGHRHH !!!!". When the jaws start to bite of his head, all you hear are cries of agonising pain. Then ... nothing. Only a chunk of devoured flesh remains hanging in the web.

"Looks like another Arm of Marteaus just lost their head, Gut!"

"Literally!" the troll agrees with his diminuitive sidekick.


Arms#3 and #6 are getting a real headache from the tentacles as they are feeling like punchingbags. Both try to escape again but the grappling tentacles are way too strong ...

As Arms#4 escapes from the tantacles they make one last attempt to pull him back in but he skillfully escapes once again. He's FREE !!!

Next Arms#4 activates his Ring of Blinking (blinking for 12 rounds - all physical attacks have a 50% chance to miss). He back away from the tentacles a little and tries to affect Spider#2 's mind by placing a Suggestion in its mind.

"The Arms of Marteaus are not a good snack ... Try the Green Claws instead !"
(Spider#2 makes a DC18 will save or is affected by the Suggestion spell)

Arms#5 saw the immense danger the spiders really hold and runs to set the last warrior remaining the web free. He skillfully removes the sticky threads.

The invisible dwarf looks around to see if others can see him also ... "I am invisible ! How can this infernal creature see me !!". He winces in pain as the Spider literally jumps on top of him doing quite an amount of damage. But on top of that he feels black poison flowing through his veins. He feels worse than ever (Save failed). But there's more in this little Dwarf than you may think. He tries to find back his wits and attacks the vile creature.

"TAKE THIS YOU MONSTER !! My Mother used to say : FIGHT POISON WITH POISON !" he shouts as he tries to stab it once again ... (activated the Dagger of Venom)

"Someone else has ISSUES, Gut!" Rankor reports on the invisible dwarf.

"Not that you can blame 'im, Rank!" the troll replies. "That's GOTTA hurt!"

Feeling his first stab penetrating the black scales, the dwarf gives his dagger a little twist. Black venom seeps into the arachnids belly. (Spider#2 must make DC16 fort save or suffer 9 CON damage + again 9 after 10 minutes ... by then the battle will probably be over)

Only 6 of the Arms of Marteasu remaining. 2 of them are grappled by the Black Tentacles. All webs are removed ... for now :-)

At K'Nara's revelation, the mage yells to the others "Ingrge, Bertram, better focus on the liches. Looks like we have a real fight on our hands...". Since the liches are closed with his comrades and his area spells are useless on them for now, the mage casts "See Invisible" to make sure he can identify all the opponents on the field. He opts not to attack the other groups as they are all still doing damage to each other and not the Talons. As he looks the battleground over he flies up over the liches (J33) to get a better look. He takes care to get high enough to not take fire damage.

Olana can't believe her luck as the huge spider toddles off to attack something else. She blows it a kiss. Go on, my arachnid friend, go and lessen the odds.
K'Nara's yell about liches makes her heart sink. As if things were not bad enough already.
And dang it all one of those Aisildurians was floating toward her now.

She re-loads her bow, coughing slightly with all the fire and poison in the air nibbling at her injured lungs.
Pivoting upward, avoiding the incoming Lian (boy, was she pleased to see him!) she lets go with everything she's got at the hide-covered, now you see him, now you don't warrior#2.

The warrior groans loudly at K'nara's revelation. Liches!! Nasty, nasty things those...known to kidnapping whole groupings of orc children for cannon fodder. His look of dismay quickly changes to one of triumph. No wonder she didn't like his blessed weapon! "Vell now, dearie, vat brings you to dis neck of de voods?? A long vay from home, I vould suppose." With a confident smile on his face, he lashes out with his sword, praying to the gods that he will be successful once more (AC 35/29 for 12, AC29 for 14, AC26 for 15).

Spider #4 shrieks and collapses heavily to the ground, gore and ichor dripping with cruel finality to the sand of the Arena floor.

Gunther's attacks all hit the female Lich, and she looks especially horrible after suffering all that damage.

K'Nara makes very effective attacks on the male Lich in spite of his human shield.

Spider #2 orients once more on A#7, launching a full attack. (OOC: Bite hits AC31 for 21hp plus make a Fort Save vs. DC24 or suffer 6pt Con damage intially and then 6pt Con damage secondary; claws hit AC20 and AC18 for 7hpd and 7hpd.)

Spider #3 repositions itself by taking a step back and a step to its left, generating and then tossing a web over A#2 and A#5--the web hits AC25.

Spider #5 generates and tosses a web in the area of G#1, #5, #7 and #8. (OOC: obviously only those on the ground would possibly be engulfed--the web hits AC29.)

The male Lich facing K'Nara suddenly reels in horror, dropping the unmoving Ga'alian cleric to the ground and retreating to B22 as the power of Domi forces him away.

The female Lich claws at Gunther, but between her condition and the male fighter's Animated Shield, she doesn't even come close.

The spider's web meets with much better results this go round, trapping Quad member's #5 and 8 in it's sticky strands.

From waaay across the arena, the Quad leader (#1) spots the fleeing of the male spellcaster, and shoots a curious look over at Brother Bertram. He walks toward the standing Spider #5 and takes a whack at it. And what a whack it turns out to be...slamming his blade down hard, he cuts into the beast savagely, rending and severing with lethal efficiency. (AC36/27 for 22+4shock+3sonic)

Seeing the gigantic monk move in behind him, Quad member #2 has no problem evading his attack (His AC is 27). Olana finds that her attacks pass right through the fighter as he has just blinked out of the physical realm. Smiling weakly, the once fair looking warrior casts a spell, but winks into the Ethereal Plane as he does so, and losses his spell. Not liking his current placement, #2 moves 15 feet over the top of Olana and out of Lian's reach.

Surveying the battlefield with an expert eye, the spellcaster (#3) reaches into her pack and withdraws a gem, which she then throws to the ground. A large earth elemental suddenly appears and begins to amble slowly in the direction of Spider #5.

With a dull thud, the seemingly lifeless body of the cleric of Ga'al (#4) hits the ground face first.

With an amazing feat of strength, Warrior #5 rips the net in two (Str.=nat. 20!!) freeing himself and Warrior #8.

Moving with magically enhanced speed, Warrior #6 moves in toward Spider #5 and strikes out with her spiked chain once more. He fumbles badly and the chain almost flies out of his hands (Nat. 1!!)

With an evil grin that looks out of place on his fair face, Warrior #7 steps toward Spider #5 and begins hammering away. He is well rewarded for his efforts as his bastard sword carves pieces out of the spider (AC27 for 11, AC29 for 10, AC 29 for 10).

Short sword a blur, Milo appears undaunted at the undead nature of his opponent as he clicks his heels to activate his boots and strikes at the creature. (OOC: Milo should be in square F35 on the map, flanking the female lich opposite Gunther, after last round's movement. Milo hits ACs 37, 40, and 24 for 8, 11, and 10 hit points of damage respectively. This damage is for the holy short sword, and not sneak attack, esp. that I realize that isn't possible with this opponent.)

stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp

Those tentacles just won't give up ! Arms#3 and #6 are covered in bruises by now.
Yet both still have strength in them and try to work there way out of the tentacles.

(grapple check #3 : 16 and 27 NAT 20 !! SUCCES)

Only Arms#3 is able to free himself from the hideous tentacles and struggles his way out of their range. Poor arm#6 looks at him ... "Don't leave me hanging here !"

Arms#7, the invisible dwarf, takes an incredible beating from spider#2 and sinks to his knees ... this time his weakened body is unable to defend against the cruel poison that seeps through his vines. (loosing 6 CON points, means loosing 11 x 2 hp = 22 hp).
The world starts to spin around him ... then he falls to the ground his last vision of this cruel Wold is nothing else but an indestructible spider ...

Arms#2 and #5 feel awfull when yet ANOTHER blasted web covers them in sticky threads. Both are hanging helplessly ... and that spider sure aint far away ... "help" one of them yellps.

Arms#4 makes an offencive against the spider that threatens Arms#2 and #5 and casts Shadow Evocation. Suddenly an Ice Storm covers Spider#2 ! (Ive storm : 13HP normal damage, 9HP cold damage - if the spider succeeds saving throw damage is reduced to 20% : 2HP normal +1HP cold damage)

Chortling to himself as he looks down from his 60 ft height, Ingrge sees what a mistake Gaalians have made and drops a bomb on them. Centering a fireball on G22 that covers a circular area of 50 ft diameter, that catches the male Lich mage, Gaalian #1, 5, 6, 7, & 8, the earth elemental, the front half of spider number 5, and a good portion of the locust swarm as well.

The mage observes Ingrge's spell and decides to follow it up with another - fearing the lich is the most powerful force on the field. He centers a freezing sphere of cold power right on him in hopes it finishes him off - at least here (Freezing Sphere, 56 DMG - SR 34). He holds no hope that his phylactory is in the arena.

K'Nara loses her opponent thanks to the compelling will of Domi as wielded by Brother Bertram.

Thinking for a moment, the clever woman comes up with an idea and flies up and out of the Arena, to map coordinate A30, where she hovers at 30 feet. Then she digs out one of her Cure Moderate Wounds potions.

"Say...you can't drink that--that's not allowed!" Rankor Redcap flies up to her and huffs chidingly. The blade singer smiles sweetly at him.

"The rules say NO HEALING IN THE ARENA, right?" K'Nara responds.

"Yes! Strictly enforced!" Rankor agrees.

"Are we IN the Arena?" K'Nara asks. The powrie announcer opens his mouth, closes it, opens it again...then turns in the direction of his colleague.

"Gut? Is this legit???" he demands. The troll relays the event to the Necromancer, who looks across the Arena to where K'Nara hovers just outside its perimeter. Then the hooded head bobs at the announcer with a few spoken words.

"Seems we've found yet another loophole, Rankor." Gutmasher says, shrugging. "As the lovely leader of the Green Claws is NOT inside the Arena...she can get healed up all she wants while she's out there."

K'Nara bites the cork off the bottle, spits it out and drinks her potion (OOC: heals up 13hp.)

"Thanks!" she says, handing the fluttering redcap the empty bottle and then scrutinizing the battlefield to see where she can most effectively attack...

Spider #5 becomes extremely injured at the concentrated efforts of the Ga'alian Quad...but still very much alive.

The female Lich screams in fury and pain under Milo's and Bertram's concentrated assault, wailing in a high-pieced shriek as she falls to the ground. She stares lifelessly up at the night sky. ***Confirming that Milo is at F35 and that Bertram is at G34 (as the female Lich is in square F34). Both are standing on the ground.***

"Oh...OW!" moans Rankor in mock empathy. "She is DOWN for the count, Gut!"

"Stick a fork in her, Rank, she's done!" the troll agrees.


Spider #3 rolls for Spell Resistance, but the number is 64, which means the spider must roll the saving throw. The Will Save is 21. I'm assuming that this is high enough to beat the Spell's DC as you didn't post what that was, ADM Inge.

Inge : Sorry. The DC was 20 so indeed the spider succeeded her saving trow

The male Lich seems unaffected by Ingrge's Fireball spell. ***Confirming Ingrge is at M26 about 60ft in the air.***

K'Nara gets a loophole for the good guys. She IS at A30, about 30ft in the air.

Olana attacks again. ***Confirming that Olana is at N29 on the ground.***

Spider #2 shakes itself all over, turns around in place--and its bulging compound eyes fall upon G#3. Feeling the pain and telepathic cries for help from #5, Spider #2 charges the spellcaster, leaping at her in a vicious attack! (OOC: bite hits AC33 for 14hpd plus G#3 must make a Fort save vs. DC24 or suffer 4pt of CON damage initially and then 2pt CON damage secondarily.)

Spider #3 (largely ignoring the piddly-poo Shadow Evocation effects) steps up to Lunch #2...er, ah...I mean--to A#2 and adminsters a painful but final coup-de-grace to the helpless follower of Marteaus.

"It's lunch for the spider again, Gut!" yells out the flying powrie. Many of the audience members are actively laughing and jeering the poor victim.

"Speaking of which, Rank--" the troll commentator gears up for another pitch, "--I'd like to take the time to thank 'Nuttin' But Brains', that special dinner pub to take YOUR mate to! Remember, if you're in the mood for a meal that's unforgetable--it's...'Nuttin' But Brains'..."


Gravely injured, Spider #5 launches itself at G#1 in a full attack. (OOC: ouch! Bite is a Crit Hit that does 34hpd and now #1 must make that Fort Save versus DC24 or suffer initial 4pt CON damage and then secondary 1pt CON damage; first claw attack is another Crit Hit for 17hpd; second claw attack hits AC27 for 10hpd.)

The male Lich continues to run, ending up at E16.

Seeing that his work on the female lich is complete, Milo clicks his heels, and makes a beeline back through the wall of fire, gritting his teeth with the pain of the heat as he moves to flank Olana's opponent. Once there, he allows his shortsword to do the talking. (OOC: Moved 50 feet to N31 as the extra standard action from boots of speed, and then attacked twice, hitting once with a natural 20, though not sure if AC 23 confirms. And hit AC 21. First hit does 34 hit points of damage [40 if a crit] and second hit does 28 points of damage if it hits.)

Ingrge's fireball explodes among the Quad with a loud roar. He is quite pleased to see that all of the Quad members targeted, with the exception of the lusty female with the nasty axe (#8) are far too clumsy to dodge out of the fireball's path. Despite the direct hit, none of the Quad members appear to be damaged badly. A few minor burns appear on their skin, and the female's skin appears untouched.

"Hot patooties, Gut!" cries Rankor as the audience "oohs" and "ahhs" over Ingrge's spectacular Fireball. "THAT ought to give the nearly-full moons a run for their money!"

"You said it, Rank!"


Taken aback by Spider #2's attack, the Aisildurian spellcaster (#3) shrieks in pain!! Though the bite itself does very little damage, the poison is another story. With a decided trembling of her hands, the spellcaster gathers her strength and climbs up into the air out of the reach of the massive spider (drawing AoO). She then casts a spell. Ingrge feels the all too familiar tug of magic attempting to invade his body. (Will save (with a -4 penalty) DC 24 or SR27 negates...otherwise your Int. and Char. Fall to 1)

Lian finds it incredibly difficult to land an attack on Quad member #2 who keeps blinking in and out of the Material plane. His second attack does connect. With a solid thud, Lian's fist slam's into the man's chest...but it feels like he just punched a brick wall! Strangely, the hide armored man seems to take little damage from Lian's blow.... Perhaps even stranger is the fact that he slumps unconscious, floating 20 feet in the air above the battle. Olana's arrows whip through the air...the first one finding it's mark, but bouncing off the warrior's unconscious body, the other zipping through the insubstantial body as it blinks. Milo finds it an incredibly easy task attacking the unconscious warrior, but quite another to actually inflict damage. Both of his attacks would have connected IF the Aisildurian hadn't been blinking.

"Ahhhh...the old 'Now-You-Can-Hit-Him, Now-You-Can't' magic of a Blink spell!" the flying powrie chortles as the battle against G#2 continues.

"Must be frustrating the boogers out of those Green Claws, Rank." Gutmasher comments.

"You said it, Gut!"


Free from the web and sensing victory at hand, Warrior #5 takes a 5 foot step toward Spider #5 and launches a full attack on it. He connects all three times, doing massive damage to the spider (AC26 for 21, AC28 for22, AC31 for 18).

"Don't know how much more that spider can take, Gut." points out Rankor.

"Too bad they don't have nine lives, like cats." the troll jokes.


Figuring Spider #5 for a goner, Warrior #6 takes a 5 foot step toward Spider #2 and strikes out with her spiked chain again. Two of his blows connect, and he inflicts minimal damage on the spider's legs (AC26 for 10, AC22 for 9).

Realizing that his comrade will need help with the newly arrived spider (#2), Quad member #7 sprints over. Swinging his massive sword, he scores what looks to be a solid hit. (AC26 for 23).

The nympho warrioress (#8) moves in to help out her teammates..surrounding Spider #2. She takes a slice with her axe and connects (AC37/20 for 12).

The crowd is cheering (and some booing) as the Ga'alians begin to concentrate on Spider#2.

"It's dogpile on the spider, Gut!" bellows Rankor gleefully.


Though they are powerful indeed, the Quad leader takes Spider#5's attacks in stride. Several more flakes of stone fall from his body, and he easily shrugs off the poison. He smiles as his team members bring down the monster. Unexpectedly, as if he has just thought of something very important, the Quad leader (#1) mumbles a few unintelligible words. His eyes squinting in concentration, the leader watches the actions of the "Green Claws" carefully...paying particular attention to Ingrge, Olana, Lian and Milo. His eyes wide with surprise, the dark warrior recovers from his shock and begins to laugh loudly at some private joke. His blade still moist with spider blood, the Quad leader climbs 50 feet further in the air, equaling the elevation of Ingrge.

The last Marteaus warrior entangled in the tentacles takes yet another pounding and tries to escape ... already knowing his attempt will probably be in vein he gives it another try - only to fail ... A look of despair appears on his face. How much longer can he hold on ?!?

Suddenly a load scream can be heard all over the battlefield. A cry of immense pain that cuts right through your bones. Only echos linger on as Spider#2 eats Arms#2's head. Arms#5 wriggles in panic ... "She's coming ! She's coming !! HELP me !!! DO SOMETHING !"

"Oooooo...looks like SOMEbody's in a panic, Gut!" Rankor chuckles cruelly at A#5's understandable fear.

"I know I'D be standing in a puddle if I saw THEM mandibles coming at me!" Gut says emphatically. The crowd, however, claps and cheers on the violence.


Arms#3 is fed up with these pesky spiders and having seen the terrible effects of Flame Strikes, he launches one to incinerate Spider#2. (added it to the map in yellow to make sure Arms#5 isn't affected by the flames)

(Flame Strike : damage 43HP / half divine damage / Ref save DC19 for 32HP damage)

The Flame Strike also destroyes the web that holds Arms#5

"Free at last! Free at last!" crows the powrie announcer. "Thank G--"

"Don't go there, Rank." Gut warns in a deadly voice.

"Oops. Sorry."


Arms#4 doesn't want to lose the Arms's second in command and casts a Magic Circle against Chaos upon Arms#3

Shrugginoff the magical invasion of his body, Ingrge grins malevolently at the quads spell caster. is that really the best you can do? That is the second time you all have tried that feeble mind spell (knowledge arcana 27).

Here, as I guess it is my turn, why don't you try this on for size. Quickly casting The quad's mage needs to make a fortitude save DC 24, and will dc 24, or spell resistance 32 or be turned into a normal legless rat. (baneful polymorph)

The mage yells to Bertram "Look for her phylactory or she'll come right back!". Seeing the lich near the Gaalians, he flies over and lines up the Quad (U17) and blasts them good with a cone of cold (55 DMG). He begins the blast so he catches Spider #5, and Quad 3, 4, 5, &6.

Gunther smiles as Bertram and Milo finish off liche for him. "Tanks guys!!" he shouts out. What's a phylactory??? he thinks as he flys out of the wall of fire (30 feet up) and then, following K'nara's genius tactics...out of the arena (I33). "Heilen" he calls out as he activates his tattoo, sending healing energy into his body (12 hp healed).

Bertram glances over at the head roasting in the wall of fire. "I imagine we have a moment or two", he comments wryly. But he does as Figment asks and quickly looks for the item. He will search unless it becomes apparent his friends are in trouble, in which case he will move to thier aid. As he searches he prays over the remains, knowing the creature was evil, but still sending out a wish for its soul just the same.

Milo suffers another 17hpd from the Wall of Fire.

Spider #2 snaps its poisonous mandibles at the fleeing G#3 in an Attack of Opportunity, hitting AC38 with 18hpd and another dose of poison that requires the Fort Save vs. DC24 or suffer initial 2pt CON damage and then secondary 6hp CON damage.

Warrior G#5 slices Spider #5 into little itty bitty pieces, killing it.

Spider #3 becomes damaged--but it isn't by the Fire portion of the Flame Strike, oddly enough.

Brother Bertram follows up on the death of the female Lich. ***Confirming that Bertram is at G34 on solid ground.***

Lian makes his attempt at a flying tackle of G#5, prompting an Attack of Opportunity from the Ga'alian. After that is resolved, Lian's grapple hits AC35. ***Confirming that Lian is now at K26 on or relatively near ground level--even though Lian's player posted no coordinate or elevation.***

Ingrge casts his spell, and G#3 must make a Fort Save versus DC24, and a Will Save versus DC24, (or spell resistance of 32) or be turned into a normal legless rat. ***Confirming Ingrge at M26.***

Figment must post his DC for the Cone of Cold. ***Confirming that Figment is at J33 about 40ft in the air, even though he didn't post his location and elevation.***

Gunther moves to A33, which is outside the boundaries of the Arena, and uses his Tattoo to heal up 12hp for himself.

Bertram searches for something resembling a phylactery, but finds nothing.

K'Nara sees the good cleric looking and thinks VERY hard (OOC: makes an Intelligence check versus DC15--result 17.) "The spiders!" she yells. "They gave their phylacteries to their spiders!!! The first two they had time to give extra protection spells to!!!" So saying, K'Nara flies down and lands near the remains of Spider #1. She is now at C24, on the ground and desperately poking through spider parts...

Spider #2, though obviously badly hurt, nonetheless turns to G#8 and launches a full attack on the axe-wielding witch! (OOC: bite hits AC31 for 17hpd, plus make a Fort Save vs. DC24 or suffer intial CON damage of 4pts, then secondary CON damage of 1pt; two claws hit AC20 and AC34 [ouch--second claw IS a Crit Hit] for 7hpd and then 17hpd for the Crit Hit one.)

Spider #3 pounces on A#5 in a full attack as well. The bite hits AC20 for 17hpd and that infamous Fort Save vs. DC24 or suffer initial 4pt CON damage and then 1pt secondary CON damage. The two claw attacks hit AC20 and AC19 for 10hpd and 10hpd, respectively.

The male Lich is still terrified and continues to flee the length of the Arena to location F10 (on the side of the spider AWAY from the people with weapons.) He is not flying, but running on the ground.

Olana winces as Milo comes hurtling through the fire, bur she's glad he's all right. She's also a bit baffled as to why the #2 Aisuldurian isn't putting up any more fight. Maybe they killed him, who knew? She couldn't tell on the ground.

Milo clicks his heels, and quickly tumbles to continue flanking his opponent, and brings his blade up to strike at him quickly. (OOC: Milo made his tumble check DC 38 to avoid the attack of opportunity as he tumbled to O31. Oops... I attacked once too many times. So taking the 1st and 3rd attacks for the appropriate to hit numbers, Milo hits AC 31 and 30 for 24 hit points and 32 hit points of damage respectively.)

As she retreats, the Quad's spellcaster is very effectively munched on by Spider#2. She howls in pain...but her howls quickly turn to squeaks as she shrinks down to her new form. And then the squeaks merge into one very long howl as the legless rat falls 40 feet to the ground and lands with a large Splat!! And then something truly strange happens...when the spellcaster dies, Quad members 1-5 suddenly begin to move a lot slower and their skin glows for a few brief moments.

The lusty wench's (#8) smile is wiped effectively off her face as the spider rips into her. Her body shudders as the poison courses through her veins, though she still looks to be in fighting order.

Quad member #5 spins as Lian attacks, and lashes out with his sword, but to no avail. The lean mean fighting monk is too elusive, and he grabs a hold of the warrior. The warrior struggles violently and manages to fight off the monk.

Figment's cone of cold rips through the Quad's ranks. The cleric of Ga'al (#4) who is face down on the ground has no chance to avoid it and soon does a great impression of a popsicle. Warrior's #5 and 6 can't dodge the frozen death headed their way, but once again, they seem to take much less damage from the attack than Figment would have anticipated.

Olana's first two arrows find their home in Quad member #5's back, and though he grunts a little, he doesn't seem too bothered by the attack.

Having successfully flanked his unconscious victim (#2), Milo has absolutely no problem stabbing the poor fellow. It would appear that Warrd is with him, as THIS time, the fellow remains in the Material plane. His blood gushes down from where he floats above the ground, and he appears to be very close to death. Blinking his eyes rapidly, the chosen of Ga'al attempts to rise to his feet, drawing an AoO from Milo, who once again connects with the fellow, and this time finishes him off for good. His dead body slams to the ground, splattering blood everywhere. Once again something strange happens to the Quad...there is a faint glow surrounding members #1, 4 and 5 and they appear to react to things even more slowly than they did previously as well as looking a little weaker than a few moments ago.

The Quad leader looks over at Ingrge and smiles...not a joyful look, but more a mocking, cold glare. "Well, well, well...what do we have here? A little do gooder, huh?" As the warrior approaches, Ingrge begins to feel very uncomfortable (-2 to all saves). "Well, we don't really appreciate GOOD folk around these parts, in case you didn't notice..." With a look of hatred, the Quad leader brings his sword down on Ingrge, slicing into the mage with terrible force. His eyes narrow as most of the damage he just dealt out is absorbed by Ingrge's stoneskin. (AC31 for 19**before stoneskin reduction).

More than a little peeved at Lian's antic's, warrior #5 walks up into the air to engage the huge monk (Since Lian didn't post elevation, I am assuming all he has to do is take a 5 foot step). With a grim looking smirk, the fighter swings his sword twice and rips into Lian with a critical hit and then another nasty blow (AC36/32 for 40, AC32/18 for 19**before stoneskin reduction).

Just barely managing to keep his feet under him on the glass ground, Quad member #6 takes a 5 foot step toward Spider #2 and does what he does best...swing that chain. Two of his three attacks get through, and he does a little more damage to the monster (AC23 for 8, AC26 for 8).

Oblivious to the danger presented by the Green Claws, Quad member #7 and 8 continue to focus on Spider #2. Warrior #7 wails on the creature, connecting with all of his attacks (AC31 for 9, AC23 for 10, AC34/26 for 23). Warrior #8 somehow manages to focus after the devastating last attack, and continues to carve the spider into more bite size pieces. (AC23 for 15, AC31/27 for 21, AC33 for 9, AC22 for 13).

Lian has 10 foot reach and can grapple from 10 feet up. He also rolled a AC 35, and #5 only rolled a 31 to oppose Lian? Shouldn't Lian have won the roll?

Happy to be released from the wicked spiders webs, Arms#5 now takes a beating from the vermins claws and bite. He takes the damage without too much trouble and is able to ward off the poison that was injected in his veins.

A wicked grin appears on his face as once again he can weild his weapon trying to destroy the spider.

He swings his light pick 3 times. Engulfed by his succesfull first hit he lands his light pick a second time. This one surely got the rigth angle, the ideal speed, and ... damn that has to hurt. (total damage 34HP)

Arms#3 descides to call upon his God ! "Show me RIGHTEOUS MIGHT !!"

The spellcasters height immediately doubles, his weight increases by factor eight ! He CLEARLY became a lot more powerfull ! He comes a bit closer to the Spider, ready to deliver a fatal blow next round.

Arms#4 sees the oncomming Wizard, and descides to dazzle him ... out of the blue 6 identical figures pop up. "Peak a boo !" he grins ...

After nailing the Quad with a Cone, he turns to the other group (one fartherst north) and blasts them with another Cone (54 DMG). He makes sure and catches every one of them - including all #4's. He the changes location yet again to aid Ingrge and Lian as they are now engaged in direct combat.

Started at U17 and was 20' up.

Now at R25 about 20' up.

As the Gaalian leader moves into attack Ingrge lashes out with his staff and with his voice. "Now I wouldn't necessarly call me "Good" though I might be just a bit better than you. Then again, you might get the chance be the next legless rat in the arena." Intimidate (nat 20 DC28)

Spider #2 is finally killed by the Ga'alian Quad.

"And another one finally bites the dust, Gut!" Rankor Redcap pronounces the demise.

"You gotta admit, Rank, those are some tough spiders!" the troll says enthusiastically.

"They're nothing I wanna find in my basement, that's for sure!"


Spider #3 suffers a lot of damage from the determined A#5, but is still alive.

Figment moves. ***Confirming that Figment is at R25 about 20ft in the air.***

Ingrge attempts to Intimidate his opponent. ***Confirming that Ingrge is at M26 about 60 feet in the air.***

Gunther moves. ***Confirming that Gunther is at F26, 20ft in the air.***

K'Nara searches what's left of Spider #1--then shouts, triumphantly holding aloft an elaborate wrought phylactery.

"I've FOUND it!" she yells, then strains to remember how to destroy it. (OOC: Her Search check was 20, and her Knowledge [arcana] check is 15+9=24.) She ponders for a moment, realizing that she'd need to be able to strike a blow that does more than 20hpd at a time...or magic. Magic...

"Magic..." K'Nara murmurs, then turns her head to look at the magic Wall of Fire. She smiles and lobs the phylactery into the fire. (OOC: rolled a 32 to get the phylactery to land IN the fire.) ***K'Nara is still on the ground at C24.***

"A phylactery!" the powrie recognizes the item and is amazed. "Why, Gut, that would mean that there are undead in this contest..!"

"But--isn't that against the rules???" Gutmashers replies on cue, then both of the announcers yell (along with most of the crowd):

"There ARE no rules!!!"


Spider #3 continues its attack on A#5, hitting AC31 with its bite, doing 22hpd and forcing another Fort Save versus DC24 or suffer initial 6pt CON damage and then secondary 5pt CON damage; hitting AC32 and AC16 with its two claw attacks, doing 9hpd and 7hpd respectively.

As soon as Spider #2 dies, the male Lich/Wizard halts his flight, turns around and snarls at the Ga'alians responsible for hacking the creature to pieces. He casts a spell...and the Ga'alians suddenly find themselves engulfed in a Fireball. The Ga'alians must roll a Reflex Save for half damage versus DC22 or suffer the Maximized spell effect of 60hp of magic fire damage.

"Why, lookee here, Gut!" Rankor says gleefully. "It looks like our runaway wizard finally grew a spine!"

"He DOES seem to be dishing it out this time instead of taking it, Rank!" agrees the troll.

After Ingrge's previous display of force, his attempt to Intimidate the Quad leader proves very successful and he is shaken this round. Much to his surprise, Ingrge finds that all three of his attacks hammer home on the dark warrior.

"Ooooo! We have macho posturing in the air!" the redcap points out gleefully, whizzing around the duelling elf and Ga'alian.

"Don't get in the line of fire, Rankor!" Gut warns him kiddingly. "Your medical doesn't cover it!"


The lich's fireball lights up the arena...and all three of the Quad members (#6-8) in its path are helpless to get out of the way. The flames lick their body, but once again, the damage does not appear to be as extensive as it should have been. Still, several of the Quad members are beginning to look worse for the wear. And to top it all off, while Quad member #6 is able to keep her footing, #7 and #8 fall flat on their butts!

The only one left of his feet, Quad member #6 looks around and spots the lich that just threw the fireball at them. And, quite understandably, he doesn't look too anxious to engage him...but then, he really doesn't have too many other options. With the look of a man marching off to his certain death, the Quad member charges in and engages the lich. Keeping his distance from the caster and lining up his shot, he activates one of his rings. A large ram materializes in front of him and slams into the lich (Ranged attack AC31...nat. 20 doing 10hp damage). The lich must make a opposed Str. check DC22 or be pushed back 5 feet (at least!)...into the range of Arm#4.

The crowd roars in delight at the spectacle of the fireball lighting up the night sky. Damage is done and blood is spilled and they are all quite satisfied.

Quad member's #7 and 8 have little choice, and crawl out of the glass area...leaving themselves in a nice prone position.

With a very smug look on his face, Quad member #5 watches as Lian attempts to retreat. Swinging his sword, he reaches out to strike the monk and just barely misses him. Still, there's that mage to deal with... Quad member #5 moves 5 feet toward Ingrge and climbs 55 feet to engage him. A look of concentration on his face, he takes a swipe at Ingrge but can't connect with him either.

Seeing that K'nara has found the the phylactery and destroyed it, Bertram heads for where he feels he is needed most. Rising above the flames he head straight for the male lich. Seeing the Fireball engulfing the Ga'alians he hurries in that direction. As he moves he murmurs yet another prayer for protection.

Ingrge speaks to his opponent and then chuckles at the Quad leader's misfortune. "Now that was pretty weak RAT. Are you sure you want to fight with me RAT?"

Following his words, Ingrge quickly casts a spell and reaches out toward the quad leader (ranged touch AC 27) and a ray shoots from Ingrge's hand engulfing the Gaalian.

As the ray strikes him, the fighter feels his muscles slackening and begin to go weak.

Watching the aerial battle above him, Gunther frets. They're too high up...there's no way he can reach them this round. Still better late than never... Gunther climbs 40 feet up and then scoots 20 feet over to end up near the Quad members.

(ooc: TERRIBLY sorry for this extremely late post and for not having a map for you all yet. I had customers visiting our company all day and just got back from diner with them. I should have warned Donna about this ... but I never thought they would stay this long. Completely my fault. It won't happen again)

Arms#6 is still struggling to get loose from the tentacles. He REALLY feels ridiculous !! He entered this arena to fight a bloody battle, but right from the start he has either been covered in sticky goo or been battered by tentacles ... Definetely not his lucky day.

(Tentacle damage not rolled so I took the liberty to roll for you ... shouldn't have done this for damage is 10HP)

By now he starts to feel pretty bruised ... he can' ttake this much longer !

"You can see it all in this guy's face, Gut!" Rankor points out the futility of A#6's position.

After the really impressive blow delivered to the Spider#3 she keeps coming ! This is infernal !! But this time Arms#5 is not able to resist to the poison any longer ! He takes 6 CON damage.

G#6 tries to ram the male Wizard (the lich), who gets knocked back 5 feet. He appears otherwise unharmed.

G#7 and G#8 are prone.

G#1 and G#5 both miss on their attacks.

Brother Bertram makes a beeline for the remaining Lich. ***Confirming that Bertram is at G22 about 40ft in the air.***

Ingrge begins to cast and Quad member's #1 and #5 both launch their attacks of opportunity against him...and both fail miserably!! The ray rips into the Quad leader's body sucking the strength from his arms and legs. Shaking terribly, a very normal looking man is now standing where the once proud and terrible warrior was but seconds ago. Still, he stands in amazing defiance before Ingrge and his lethal magics. "We're not done yet! I may be a rat, but I'll see you struck down yet...WORM!!" His sword arcs down toward Ingrge three times in rapid succession. It would, however, appear that both Warrd and Ga'al have forsaken him, for his blows are no more powerful than a child's, and Ingrge has no problem deflecting them.

Beginning to look like a pin cushion from all of Olana's arrows sticking in his legs, Quad member #5 spots the incoming Gunther and Milo. Gonna get hot soon. With a look of dogged determination, he takes a 5 foot step back toward Ingrge and launches a attack against him. But like his leader, he is unable to lay a finger, let alone a sword on the enemy mage.

Quad member #6 looks thrilled at the effectiveness of his attack. Phew!!! At least that horrible mage was out of the way! He chuckles lightly at the Arm of Marteus attacks him directly. But his mirth is cut short with K'nara's arrival. The sound of metal slicing into flesh causes him to turn, facing K'nara. With absolutely no hesitation, he whips out his spiked chain at the female warrior, buying his comrades some time. He comes close to connecting with his last attack, but he just can't penetrate K'nara's formidable defenses. His eyes flicker in disbelief...could it be that Ga'al has forsaken him and his family??

The only one left of his feet, Quad member #6 looks around and spots the lich that just threw the fireball at them. And, quite understandably, he doesn't look too anxious to engage him...but then, he really doesn't have too many other options. With the look of a man marching off to his certain death, the Quad member charges in and engages the lich. Keeping his distance from the caster and lining up his shot, he activates one of his rings. A large ram materializes in front of him and slams into the lich (Ranged attack AC31...nat. 20 doing 10hp damage). The lich must make a opposed Str. check DC22 or be pushed back 5 feet (at least!)...into the range of Arm#4.

Seeing as she's completely exposed, K'nara has absolutely no problem slicing into Quad member #8...though she does notice that Lucia's flame does that pesky wench no damage. Having almost no other choice, she rises to his feet (move action), drawing and attack of opportunity from K'nara as she does so. Quad member #7 follows suit, likewise drawing an attack from K'nara. Raising their weapons, both Quad members attack K'nara, hoping to dispatch her quickly. But just like all their comrade, neither of them can connect.

Only now the marteaus Sorcerer understands that he should have left the Male Wizard deal with the Ga'alians. As the flames spout from the Wizards hands, all his decoys are scorched and burned ... some do manage to dodge the flames, but they simply vanish into oblivion. The sorcerer himself makes his reflex save also (21 vs DC14) and takes some damage.

"And that's a POOF-gone, there, Gut!" Rankor announces as the Mirror Images disappear, revealing only the lone, true spellcaster.

"Can YOU say 'sitting duck', Rank?" jokes the troll.


Suddenly he feels all alone as all his "friends" just vanished ... now what ?!?
Then he notices Arms#3 who just destroyed the spider at last ... haha ! ... NOW we're talking ...

Arms#3 sighs from releaf. These spiders took out nearly all of the Arms warriors. No time though to lick their wounds ...

Angry he spins around as he sees the Male Wizard attack the Arms Sorcerer. He also notices the Ga'alians in melee with K'Nara ... all on the ground ...
Apparently most around this arena have a liking for fire. Well then lets fight fire with FIRE !

Arms#3 makes a few incantations, and from the sky a thundering Flame Strike lands on top of Ga'alians #6 and #8 and the Male Wizard.

(Damage 39 - 50% is divine damage - Reflex Save DC19 for 29 HP)

"OUCH! SOMEbody's peeved, Gut!" the powrie has to bob and weave in the air to avoid the huge gout of flame that engulfs the area.

"It never pays to cross a follower of Marteaus, Rank." Gutmasher confirms somberly.


Both Arm#3 and #4 take evasive manouvres and slide accros the battle field. Once in position, the Arms Sorcerer activates his Ring of Blinking and casts a Blur spell on the Arms last Cleric.

(blinking : Physical attacks against you have a 50% miss chance. Own attacks have a 20% miss chance. If the attacker can see invisible creatures, the miss chance is also only 20%.)
(Blur : This distortion grants the subject concealment (20% miss chance). )

Arms#6 again makes an effort to break loose from the tentacles ... What a surprise ... he failed again. Too bad the other spellcasters aer too busy to simply dispel the tentacles :-)

With a feral laugh Ingrge, watches as his Gaalian opponent falls 60 feet to the ground. Then whipping his staff around to ready position, Ingrge mooves forward 15 feet and lets loose with a shot from his staff where he sees BIG Martean #3.

Three rays come firing out of Ingrge's staff striking BIG Martean #3 square in the back.

Scroching Ray - No Save- 50 point damage - Spell resistance 30 - negates damage.

Inge : firing 3 scorching rays means you have to make three ranged touch attacks. All of these are subjected to a 20% miss chance from the Blur spell. So your damage should have been rolled as 3 times 4d6 instead of (3x4)d6 - sorry to be a pain in the ass ;-)
As damage from EACH ray I will take your roll apart : first ray 15HP, second ray 18HP, third ray 17HP.
The Touch AC is soo low (AC9) that I will allow all your rays to connect.

Milo's blade sinks deep into Quad member #5's back...yep, he felt that one! And then the fireworks begin, and Quad members #6 and 8 are engulfed in flames. Though once again the attack doesn't seem to do as much damage as it ought to have. And then a very odd thing happens... suddenly all of the conscious Quad members (#1, 5, 6, 7 & 8) begin to convulse. Grabbing their chests, they all fall to the ground at the exact same moment...stone cold dead. Ingrge doesn't even get a chance to fire off his rays as he finds his intended victims are indeed very dead. Across the arena, the Wall of Fire suddenly winks out of existence as the Quad's lifeless bodies hit the sand.

"This is incredible, Gut!" shouts Rankor excitedly. "The quad from Aisildur is DOWN!"

"And they AREN'T coming back up!" adds the troll. "The Aisildurans are OUT of the competition!"

Gunther's jaw drops as all of the Aisildurian's die at the same time...that was...well...odd. His shoulders drop in disappointment, and it almost looks as if he is going to pout. Nobody to play with!! Gunther surveys the battlefield... Oooo...wait...that big huge fellow way down there on the ground looks fun. Flying over, Gunther takes up and aerial position, reading to attack Arms #3 in a couple of rounds.

With all the spells flying about, Olana finds it difficult to a) move to a safe spot, and b) to a spot where she'll be the most affective.

Seeing one of those Marteauan types to the north of her, (Yellow #3 on the grid), the elf fires off yet more arrows. Any more of this and her bow string arm would be twice as big as the other.

Even as K'Nara takes her Attack of Opportunity upon the rising Quad member, the actions of Milo and the lone cleric of Marteaus take their toll on the fighters from Aisildur--they all fall down, dead.

Lian moves and is at A29, 30 feet in the air.

Milo is at K26, 60 feet in the air.

A#3 and A#4 move to their new positions on the map--poor A#6 is still taking quite the beating from those Tentacles!

Ingrge--who was going to fry the two Ga'alian combatants in front of him--insteads fires upon the same Martean foe that Gunther is making his way towards...

Ingrge is at M23, 60 feet in the air; and Gunther is at L15, 60 feet in the air.

Bertram moves to right above the Lich's head--both the Lich and Bertram occupy F10, but the good cleric is 30 feet in the air.

Olana fires off more arrows...she is at N29 on the ground.

K'Nara begins to poke through Spider #2's remains, looking to see if this one has a Phylactery in it. She searches with no results... (OOC: bleagh! rolled a 3 for Search!)

The Lich, however, does NOT like K'Nara poking about his ex-pet. He casts a spell, shooting off five missiles of magic energy at the blade singer. K'Nara stumbles a bit, struck by 14hp of magic damage. She now has only 76hp out of her original 114hp.

"Though he is all that's left of the Wizards Deux and their Retinue," Rankor Redcap announces, "It looks like that male wizard isn't giving up!"

"No, sirree, Rank," Gutmasher comments, "That wizard sure is giving the crowd their money's worth!"

This sudden death of all the Aisildurians is quite an unexpected outcome ! Oops ... this leaves the last Marteaus ones standing the prefered target for all the Green Claws !!

Ingrge opens the onslaught! Three scorcing rays shoot forward !! Oddly enough the first ray shoots past the Marteaus Cleric, the two others hit the Cleric hard !

(miss chance vs Ingrge : 4, 55 and 55 - total damage = 35HP)

The Arms Cleric waves his arms from these unexpected attacks. His eyes grow even larger when he sees Olana firing 4 deadly arrows aimed right at his chest !! Dispite the resonnance you can see in the Clerics image, Olana's aim is very skilled. 4 arrows now stick out of the clerics armor ...

In the end Figment feels his companions did an impressive amount of damage, but ... there can ALWAYS be a little more !

A Cone of Cold spouts from his hands and extends 60ft in a Quarter circle cone, straight towards the Arms#3 and #4

(Inge explaining Cone of Cold ruling : Cone of cold creates an area of extreme cold, originating at your hand and extending outward in a cone. A cone-shaped spell shoots away from you in a quarter-circle in the direction you designate. It starts from any corner of your square and widens out as it goes.)

Milo, 60ft in the air, feels the cold under his feet ! Better not come down this instant ...

Arms#3 is staggered ! As the Cone of Cold washes over him he feels his hands and toes freez together ... the immense cold ...
then there he stands ... a FROZEN statue.
Due to the fact that he becomes frozen, all spells inchanted upon him wear off. He starts to shrink to his own size. But ... as all the molecules in his enlarged body are frozen together the tension becomes too big !! First a small crack appears accross his torso, then a second, more ... suddenly he literally explodes in thousands of tiny frozen pieces !! Shards of frozen body now lay all around the arena ...

Arms#4 also sees the Cone of Cold approaching ! Yet at the PRICISE moment he blinks to the ethereal plane !

As he returns, all he can see is the exploding frozen body of the Arms's last Cleric. Suddenly the sorcerer feels VERY much alone. Only an idiot remains, but he's still entangled in those tentacles ... and he himself will not destroy all.

Arms#6 cries in agony as the tentacles hold him still. He sees no ending at this and surrenders to their grasp. He embraces his pain and welcomes death ... May Marteaus forgive his stupidity ... though THAT's the last thing he will ever do ! (he's not dead yet, but gives up the fight - 8hp left)

Now all that remains standing is the Arm's sorcerer #4 ...

He also gets a fatalistic gaze upon his face. He knows his end is near. "If THIS will be my doom let's fade away with a little fire work"

He respectfully bows to all of the Green Claws that came closer and waves his hands.
Four beautifull little lights appear out of nothing and dance around the sorcerer. He watches them with joy ... Then he gazes up to the Wizards tower and says "The Arms of Marteaus have failed ! But Marteaus's breath will haunt you all forever !!".
Then he eyeballs the Green Claws ... : "Death will come over you all and your offspring. Plagues will destroy your crops and your unborn children will die of diseases even before they are born ... Marteaus will get to you all ... Now do what you came here to do and claim your place next to the Necromancer !"

And he lowers his defences to embrace that fatal hit ... (don't forget he still blinks ! 50% chance that you miss :-D )

Olana shivers. With all the freezing blast spells the air was getting decidedly chilly. Staying low she advances north, in order to get in range of their final assailants.
The cold air is harsh on her already ragged throat, and she finds herself coughing like an old pipe smoker as she gets into position.

That nasty Marteaun was going to get it, talking about folks's offspring like that. Gnarly acorns, that creature wanted it's mouth washing out.

Figment unleashes his Cone of Cold not once but twice.

Bertram's mighty axe smacks a mighty blow against the Lich, who convulses in shock at the Disruptive properties of the weapon...but manages to stay alive in spite of the massive damage done to him. (OOC: easily saved versus the fatal effect with a Will save of 30.)

Lian is now at I21, 30ft in the air.

Ingrge zips to D11, 60ft in the air.

Olana continues to aim and fire.

K'nara, undaunted, continues to concentrate on Searching for the phylactery she's convinced is there. Her Search result is only a 6, though...so she still can't find it.

The last sorcerer of Merteaus standing in the arena keeps his eyes fixed on Figment. Both anger and fear are in his eyes.
Then Figment spells those cursed words sending another Cone of Cold towards Arms#4. Just as it is about to wash over him he whispers : "may Marteaus avenge our death ..."

(blink chance : 55 - failed)

That last word forever will lay upon his lips for there he stands like a frozen statue. Still eyeballing Figment though now without any expression to be found in them.

Then a gurgle is heard and a sigh of releaf as the Black Tentacles finally embrace Arms#6 and brink death upon him. A snap ... another krack ... then his spine breaks and he literally folds in two swallowed by wriggeling tentacles.

"And it all comes down to this, Gut--wizard versus underdogs...who do YOU think will come out on top?" Rankor Redcap booms out over the crowd.

"Those Green Claws have numbers on their side, Rank--just look at how they mopped up what was left of the local favorites!" Gutmasher points out.

"The crowd is just eating this up!" the powrie says excitedly. The audience is, indeed, cheering and jeering as the Lich-in-disguise is attacked by Ingrge.


"I'll get you all when I come baaaaaaaaaaaaaack!" the evil spellcaster vows as the rays from Ingrge's staff strike him down.

"Over here!!!" K'Nara yells. "Everyone--LOOK FOR THAT PHYLACTERY!!!" She continues to Search the spider's body, convinced that this particular beast had the phylactery that safeguards the male Lich's essence. She doesn't find it, though (OOC: only rolled an 8 for the Search.)

"What's this?" Gut asks eagerly. "They seem to be looking for something, Rank..."

"I heard the redhead yell something about a phylactery, Gut." answers the powrie. "It could be that the wizard is actually a Lich!"

"Will they find it in time?" Gut asks. "Will they keep that loser from coming back..?"


Everyone who helps K'Nara look for the phylactery must roll a Search check versus DC15 to find the little magic box. After finding the box, it has AC5, but as it has a Hardness of 20, that means that the first 20hp of any physical blow is negated. Other than that, you need 40hp to destroy the box.

Seeing the lich fall, the mage helps locate the phylactory of the the abomination. He makes sure it is destroyed and also makes sure that the other phylactory was indeed destroyed in the fire. (e.g. both phylactories will be toast).

DM OOC: I have NO idea why Figment has rolled twice--if he rolled to Search for the phylactery, then his result of 7 doesn't find it. I don't know what the 20 result is for, so I can't apply it to anything.

The blade singer scoops up the wrought phylactery and brings it to where the molten lump that used to be the other box lies, placing it next to the misshapen mass.

Still suffering from the damage to his stamina and external wounds, the monk looks back at the area where the necromancer is and then looks tiredly at K'Nara and sighs.
He raises his hood, straightens his scarf and brushes off the clumpy, blood-soaked mud on his cloak.
"Okay, but if he kills me, I'll come back and get pointers from Brusse on how to haunt you forever." His lip curls slightly and turns, straightening himself and walks toward the necromancer.

When he reaches the necro-freak, he says, "The Green Claws are ready to proceed into the Bone Tower." With a deep bow, he turns and returns to the group with all haste.

"It seems that the Green Claws are running around down there, Rank...what's happening?" the troll commentator cranes his head in an effort to see the action.

"The Green Claw leader is running around with a box, Gut..." the powrie sidekick tells him, "...WOW! Look at that! Not one but TWO very powerful spells! There is nothing left of that phylactery, Gut!"

"That's it! That's it!" Gutmasher Tremtal crows over the roar of the crowd. "This Arena Death Battle is OVAHHHHHH!!!"

The Necromancer inclines their hooded head to Lian when the monk informs them that the "Claws" are ready for the next step. The mysterious robed figure stands, and then waves the staff.

The Talons have to close their eyes against the sudden gust of wind that whirls about them all. When they open their eyes, the Arena is just as it was when they first entered: the fields of glass created by the Fire Strikes and Fireballs are gone, as are the bodies of the fallen--well, the flesh and blood of the fallen. If one looks closely, there are more bones all over the Arena now.

"Exit the Arena now, Green Claws of Gore," the Necromancer speaks in that voice that, again, is hard to pin to a specific gender, "The equipment from your foes is piled in front of the door--to the victor goes the spoils, and that equipment is now yours..."

The crowd cheers and claps.

"Tomorrow night the moons will all be full--and at midnight they will be in the proper alignment." the Necromancer goes on to explain. "When that happens, the Rift in the Tower will appear, and you may enter the Tower. When you do, I will give you further instructions. For now, however, savor your victory--Marteaus has tested you, and you have passed...so far."

POOF! The Necromancer disappears in a spectacular flash and puff of smoke. The Arena audience cheers and claps. The Talons can see a large pile of...stuff in front of the doors through which they came into the Arena. Weapons, cloaks, armor--all kinds of things that had obviously once been the possessions of the groups they had just helped defeat.

"Everybody grab something..." K'Nara orders, beckoning Lian to her and retrieving that Bag of Holding from him so that she can place the bulkier, heavier items in it.

Just as the Talons finish gathering up the items, the doors out of the Arena open up and Gutmasher waves them out. They are led through a howling, cheering crowd to a small building that the troll tells them is for them to rest and recover in.

"Any questions?" he asks after all the Talons are inside and he's shut the door on all the "Green Claw" fans outside.

"You all have the use of this house until you go to the Tower tomorrow. It has four bedrooms and an outhouse in the back." he explains. "If you need a place to store this stuff, though, you're probably better off using Urric the Moneylender's...he has a secure vault and is indemnified by the Banking Authorities of New Elenna." He describes how to find Urric's place of business from where the house is located.

"The Arena Battle is a test." Gut tells the Talons. "It's to see if you're the strongest amongst the candidates who would go into the Tower.

"The Tower itself isn't the original one--it was a replacement for the headquarters of Marteaus himself...the original had been destroyed by the Gold Dragons." The troll pauses long enough to spit after uttering that hero group's name. "He created this new Bone Tower, making it even more secure by making sure that the only way to reach it was by going into the Shadowlands, and--even then--the only time you can get into or out of the Tower itself is during the time of the full moons. The rift into the Tower opens at midnight and then disappears at dawn." Once more, the troll grimaces, showing all his teeth.

"The Green Claws of Gore are the eighteenth set of champions who've won the right to go into the Tower to be tested by Marteaus." Gutmasher says. "So far, NONE of the other seventeen teams have ever come back out."

Throwing a blanket on the ground, Milo fills it with as much loot as it will hold, and then gathers the ends and does his best to drag it to their resting place. Once there, he gingerly dumps the loot he collected on one corner, and collects his blanket.

As the troll spits after mentioning the Gold Dragons, Milo's head jerks up, though the halfling schools himself to remain calm.

After the troll leaves Milo moves quickly toward Olana, "Need any help outta that snug looking armor?" The halfling winks slyly.

He chuckled rather cruelly.

"There's a rumor that the only reason that the Necromancer is allowing anyone else into the Tower at all is because there's a very special test at the top of the Tower--one that only a true follower of Marteaus can pass. The Necromancer wants someone to pass the test...so that the Necromancer can then destroy that group and claim the ultimate reward himself...or herself. Never could tell what's under that robe..."

Lian's eyes watch the troll as he moves off, then then says, "Cheery bloke... I would certainly enjoy about ten minutes in the arena alone with that..."
Then he notices a nice set of bracers and a ring that catches his eye. "...now thats a pretty thing." He says distractedly as he approaches.

"I could certainly use a set of protective bracers prior to the next task." He says hopefully.

He thinks a moment, realizing the size of the pile. "There sure is alot of stuff here. Could we teleport it back to the Tower of Saryd, maybe directly to someones room, after figuring out what we need?"

"I can Identify a total of six items." the leader of the Talons says. "Then I can't cast the Identify spell again until tomorrow...and even then, I can only cast it another four times, as I will have used the scrolls up. We will have to pick the items that we Identify VERY carefully."

Brother Bertram--who has been using his abilities to divine the good (or evil) nature of the items interrupts at this point:

Bertram points to the dagger that radiates.

"Beware that one, Friends, It reeks of Evil." He also points to the two spider marked items. "Those are evil but I wish to know anything Anyone can tell me about them before we destroy them..?" K'Nara frowns as she contemplates the stones that the dwarf is warning the party about.

"There ARE two of them..." she says slowly, "...and there were two of those Liches...I'll bet they are items that were used to summon forth those gigantic spiders." (OOC: made an INT check versus DC15 to recall the way the stones were used in the combat.)

"We should probably try to figure out which of these things--besides the stones--belonged to the Liches..." K'Nara points out, "...I'm pretty sure that those two had some pretty powerful items helping them out, seeing as how they entered the contest with only the two of them and four spiders in tow..."

Everyone in the party must make an INT check versus DC15--passing the check will make your PC realize the precise way to figure out which of the items used to belong to the Liches: each Lich wore matching items, so two identical-looking items of anything likely belonged to them. (For example, if there were two identical-looking wands or two pairs of gloves that looked the same, they would likely have belonged to the two Liches.)

Brother Bertram had been starting to get items off one of the Lich bodies, and so gets a +2 bonus to his check, as he can probably recall seeing specific rings or other conspicuous stuff.

Before retiring to study with Ingrge, the mage casts his own detect magic. He focuses on each item to determine which ones have the most powerful aura. He casts several times if necessary to get all the data. He passes it on to the group.

Olana grabs as much of the items as she can and helps carry it into the building they've been given to rest.
"Hey, is there a bathtub in this dump?" she rasps at the troll. Ugh, cough, well at least the voice sounded tough.

"I would love some help unbuckling this armour," she says to Milo. "It's been pinching all afternoon."

The elf doesn't like anything she hears about this necromancer creature. They were going to have to get that monster the first chance they got.
Standing looking over some of the stuff, she tries to determine which items the lichs had, and reckons she has a fair idea.

Milo gingerly assist Olana with her armor, happy that he possesses nimble fingers when it comes to dealing with the buckles and such. Then shrugging out of his own mithral shirt, he examines the burns on his skin from the wall of fire, touching them carefully, "Anyone got any ointment?"

With a sigh and very little of a clue (Int=2), Gunther leaves the treasure to those skilled in the arcane arts. Noticing Milo's discomfort, he reaches down and touches his chest where his healing tattoo is located. Then he looks down at the ground. I shouldn't have been so selfish and healed myself both times he thinks.

Gunther looks over at K'nara. "Vell, dere is very little I can do right now...and I don't need much sleep tanks to my little ring here. Maybe ven you guys are done you vant me to take de rest of de stuff over to dat place de troll guy vas talking about?"

Figment carefully goes over the voluminous pile of stuff and is able to pick out three Rings that seem especially magical (Olana points out that two of them are identical, and, thus, most likely belonged to the Liches.) She also points out that there are two identical Cloaks, 2 identical circlets and 2 sets of bracers that are obvious lookalikes. All of these items radiate a very heavy concentration of magic. There are 2 necklaces as well, but they are distinctive from each other and Bertram doesn't recall seeing a necklace of any sort around either of the Liches' necks.

Last, but not least, there is a breastplate and a pair of gloves that radiate a heavy concentration of magic as well.

"Um...that's..." K'Nara says, pausing to count up the individual items, "...that's thirteen things. I can only do ten before we have to go to the Tower."

The party needs to pick which items to leave off of K'Nara's Identify list.

Bertram will gladly use all of his spells still available and heal the party members. As they discuss the magical items he looks at the gloves longingly but then remembers the last pair and winces. He also eyes the periapt with interest, wondering if it is more powerful than the one he has now.

The house the Talons have the use of has two very large rooms on the first floor: a living/dining area and a kitchen. Upstairs there are four rooms that can sleep two people each. There is no designated interior bathing room...though the bedrooms DO have dry sinks, bowls and pitchers.

The chestnut-maned blade singer glares at Figment...because NOW she has to use her fingers to count all over again.

"Okay, then...we'd have..." K'Nara says, then goes through the motions of doing the math, "...oh! I can Identify all the items, then--assuming that those lookalikes really ARE alike." She then chuckles and smiles at Figment. "How clever of you!" She reaches for one of the matching sets of Bracers and pulls out her Identify scrolls.

"WOW!" she gasps, handling the bracers and her hazel eyes widening. "These are protective Bracers! VERY powerful!"

(OOC: K'Nara has discovered that one set of the matching Bracers is actually +8 Bracers of Armor.)

She then picks up the necklace that Bertram had been eyeing and reads her last scroll.

"Oh, my! This will boost someone's Wisdom considerably!" the leader of the Talons declares.

(OOC: K'Nara's uncovered a +6 Periapt of Wisdom.)

"Okay...now that I've used the scrolls up," K'Nara says, "It will take me about four hours or so to cast the Identifying spells and tell what the next four items are..." The tall woman gets up and goes to the kitchen, poking around. "Figures! We have a house with no food--and no real bathtub. We need to make a meal and heat some water to wash with--I know I'm grubby..."

She actually WANTS to take a bath?! How odd! Oh well... Gunther shrugs. He goes through the house and fetches the largest containers that will hold water and fills them. Then he heads into the kitchen area and lights a fire on the stovetop and starts boiling water so the others can bath if they want to.

K'Nara looks at Figment oddly.

"I can only Identify one item with one scroll," she explains, "...so I just used the two scrolls I had to Identify the two items I just mentioned." She shrugs. "But thanks for the offer."

Going on to Identify more items, K'Nara's spellcasting comes up with the following:

1 of 2 identical circlets turns out to be a +6 Headband of Intellect.

1 of 2 identical cloaks turns out to be a +5 Cloak of Resistance.

1 of 2 identical rings turns out to be a +5 Ring of Protection.

The second necklace turns out to be a +5 Amulet of Natural Armor.

By the time K'Nara is finished Identifying all the items, it's four hours later and she's famished!

"What's for dinner?" she asks nobody in particular.

Figuring a strip down wash at the sink is better than nothing, Olana gives Gunther a big smile and thanks him for the hot water.

As for the spoils, at one point she stands looking at it all. "It's a bit bewildering isn't it. Anything I can do to help?"

(Bertie, was there anything in there for Olana's -2 CON, or is Olana still wheezing like a Capstan Full Strength no filter tip smoker?)

The Talons get hot water and a chance to use their dry sinks, as well as meals and resting. K'Nara uses her next four Identify spells and determines that the third of the most powerful rings is also a +5 Ring of Protection.

The Gloves are +6 Gloves of Dexterity.

The Breastplate is a +5 Breastplate.

K'Nara thinks a moment and then draws the suit of hide armor to her, casting her final Identify spell on it.

"Not as well-protected as the breastplate is," the blade singer tells Gunther, "But it's still a rather powerful ward on the armor." (OOC: it's a set of +4 Hide Armor.)

Gunther nods at Olana's thanks, but for the life of him, he can't figure out why anyone would want to wash off the smell of battle... Wasn't that part of the point of battle?? To immerse yourself in the scent of blood...to have the war paint of your opponent's blood on your arms and your face?? Gunther sighs....elves...who could understand them?

Seeing as there is a fairly limited amount of stew, Gunther abstains. He really doesn't need the food, and it would leave more for his friends.

Gunther cleans his sword as K'nara goes about identifying the items. He is stunned beyond words when he learns that the red headed warrior has identified the hide armor. "I...you...it...it's beautiful!" Gunther stammers as he lovingly fondles the armor. He looks at the other Talons. "If it's alright vith you I vould like to take dis armor."

Milo makes a veritable mountain of stew with a sizeable portion of rations that he pulls from his backpack. Once finished, he offers bowls to anyone willing to eat. "Stew is on folks. As far as items are concerned... almost anything there is of benefit, though I don't want to be greedy. So, ya'll should pick first, and I'll see what remains."

Since all the rest of the treasure is far too varied and voluminous to be Identified at the moment, K'Nara piles as much of it into the Bag of Holding that she has and begins making trips to the local moneylender's shop. She returns with a claim ticket for the secured space that she's had the loot placed into.

"That's one less thing to worry about..." K'Nara says, sighing.

He smiles brightly, though he does sport a momentary frown as he spots a small blood soaked hole in the back of the armor. He grins at Milo. "Vell, guess I'll have to mend dat, von't I? Don't vant anyvon backstabbing me trough de same hole, eh?"
