The Beginning ofThe End (DM/Al)
Saturday May 21st, 2005 12:17:23 PM

The Children of Chaos leave the Bell, and once again wash up upon the shore of themselves. As they look around, all is green. Birds sing before bed in the fullness of leafy trees. A soft breeze stirs the sweet air of evening. The grass of the glade is a short cropped and welcoming carpet. In the broad and majestic sky the yellow orange fingers of the departing sun greet the blue black waters of the coming night.

The underground lair of the Archmage might have been but a dream, save for the few items the Children still hold in their hands, reminders of both the task still ahead as well as the battle they just left.

A scream splits the cool stillness of the evening. A woman's scream. A nearby path. A break in the trees. It comes from that direction.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Saturday May 21st, 2005 3:58:19 PM

As every thing fades and every thing grows dark. When they land on a shore, the weather is warmer. "OH! I can now take off this specisl coat the barbarian womans made for us, We can get back to our nice light clothing again."

Sly has taking off the one Luke had on and the dog runs for a tree.
Sly now will start to take off his cloak and coat, when there a screem comming from a neaar by path. "Well it look like we dont get any rest until much later!?"

Firn'gaer
Sunday May 22nd, 2005 7:58:51 AM

With a stroke of the Chaos Bell and the group is whisked to another part of the Wold. As the tones fade Firn'gaer looks around to find a scene more to his liking. Plush green grass and trees make up his surroundings.

"Thank goodness we're out of that frozen nightmare." He says aloud to himself thinking of the battle with Meznock and just how close he came to death.

The scream pierces the peaceful calm.

"You've gotta be kidding." He says realizing there'll be no moments of peace.

Just one moment of rest...just a moment to reflect...just one moment... Goes over and over in his mind as he looks around shrugs his shoulders and starts to makes his way towards the scream. As he moves he realizes he still feels the effects of the poison and slows letting the others pass.

Savin flying ac 24 70/95
Sunday May 22nd, 2005 4:32:15 PM

Savin hears the scream and sighs, "Wow life is exciting. He will stow whatever magic he is holding in his haversack and then rush towards the sound of the scream.

Ceil
Sunday May 22nd, 2005 5:24:07 PM

DM AL - Sly has it in the Ivory and Gold Chest. Either Fien-gare or Niobe put it in the chest. What ever that's not on their person, they put it in Sly's magic chest.

Thanks, Ceil. That helps. -Al

Niobe (67/67HP, AC 19)
Sunday May 22nd, 2005 7:11:15 PM

Niobe is pleasantly surprised at the change of scenary. Like the others she takes off her fur-timmed winter clothing, but leaves her armor on; at least until she knows where they are. The only clothing she is wearing that show any indication of any sort of winterish adaptation are her modified cloak and boots. She packs the rest of her cold weather clothing in her haversack.

Now Niobe was going to start appraising whatever items hadn't already been looked at; magically or otherwise, but her plans are rudely interupted by a scream. She sighs, helps pack away any items from the loot, slings her haversack on her back and draws her rapier.

Niobe heads towards the proximity of the scream at a lope. She isn't in as much of a hurry to get there as some of the Children seem to be.

Ilsidur
Monday May 23rd, 2005 12:41:04 AM

Ilsidur smiles wistfully as Sly watches the members of his family fade off. "A bladesinger," he wonders to himself. "I wonder what that is?"

He moves over and takes Tokun's hand in a solid grip and smiles up at the young barbarian. "I realize that you can't understand me, Tokun, but please travel safely home. Thank you for all of your help. We would not have been able to find our way here without you. Good luck, son."

Finally, the dwarf moves forward to touch the bell, thinking on what the crone has said to him. The crone was right; the loss of his god has left him without direction. His entire direction for the past little while has centered on his friends, and their tasks. Now, he is being asked to choose. But choose what, a new god? Earlier in his life, he felt the connection. Now, he feels no connection. Maybe the choice will bring a new connection. His life up until now has been more about balance. He is a fighter and a healer. He is a source of wisdom, but also a source of impetuousness. This great task that the Children are being asked to carry out requires balance. The Children need balance. Maybe he can provide some of the needed balance.

Uncertain exactly how to pray to this "balance", Ilsidur says aloud, "I call upon you, balance, to provide me the strength, knowledge, wisdom, and commitment to provide balance to the Children of Chaos."

Then he touches the bell.

Peerimus [AC 26 HP 46/73] and Yorrick [AC 20 HP 34/46]  d20+17=20
Monday May 23rd, 2005 4:30:03 PM

The warm fresh air and smell of green is invigorating to the druid immediately and a smiles splashes upon his face. Before he can turn to his companions though, the woman screams.
Knowing speed can be the difference between saving someone's life and avenging it, the druid turns and in a shot breaks towards the sound. Yorrick as close on his heels as he can. The trees and brush slow the bear slightly as Peerimus moves with ease.

Peerimus moves double 80' towards the sound as does Yorrick.

Sly and Luke
Monday May 23rd, 2005 7:02:36 PM

Sly is right behind Peerimus or better yet Yurrick, "Come on! Ilsidur This way, I think? at least Yurrick and Luke went this way."

You can hear Luke barking in the near distant.

The Shaper (DM/Al)
Monday May 23rd, 2005 8:29:28 PM

A canopy of trees closes over them as the Children of Chaos leave the glade and enter the wooded path. Dark evening shadows cut crazy scars across their way, dark mixed with light that tricks the eye, making the contours of the ground tricky and deceptive. Despite that, however, the path is surprisingly level, and footing without vision presents little difficulty, even to those without elven or dark sight.

Tired though they may be, the group hies to the rescue of an unknown woman. Ilsidur, as he rushes along with the group, cannot shed a gentle tickling whisper in the back of his mind. A softly humming remnant of their translocation via the Chaos Bell. It hums, almost happy, pleasant as the evening wood, using a voice from a small mouth, but with the hollow ring of a very deep, infinitely vast, and frighteningly expansive throat. Words chitter and splinter hither and thither.

"Welcome Shaper," high and sweet. "You call with your soul," infinite and awesome. "Where meet Chaos and Law ... " the two voices sing together.
... stands the Center of things. Without Chaos there is no Freedom. Without Law there is no Beauty. Without one or the other Good and Evil loose their meaning. Without Good and without Evil there is no Self Will. The Balance of all is where Life blossoms and grows.

The Shaper of Things takes The Two as his Master. To Chaos and to Law, to each his head bows. Each then in turn, bows its head to the Shaper. Both mighty heads to his touch they allow. Yours is the judgment that places The Center. Yours is the will that insists it is so. In your judgment they trust, in your hand as the Shepard. To your hand they lend power to tend to the Wold.

"You called to us Shaper. Now you are ours. And we ... are yours .... "

The voice leaves a knowing, and then leaves him be. And when Ilsidur comes back to himself, he is with the Children of Chaos as they break out into another clearing. A tall statuesque woman stands at the far side, green eyes gleaming with challenge under a mane of thick golden-red hair. In her hand is a dagger with which she holds four dark shapes at bay. The shapes slink sideways around her, their legs bent backwards after the knee joint like the haunches of a predator accustomed to the quick spring.

She dodges as one swipes at her with a clawed hand. Too quick, another darts in low and fastens jaws about her thigh. With a strike of her pommel, the woman drives it off. But in weakness she wavers, then she collapses to the grass.

One of the creatures turns with a hiss, and the Children of Chaos are treated to the wide eyed stare of yellow eyes, pupils slit vertically, a black furry muzzle, and short ears laid back against it's head in fear or anger or both. It takes the dark creatures less than a moment to decide they are outmatched. Faced with eight, one of which is an enormous brown-bear, they flee into the woods and are gone.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

OoC: Here's my concept for The Shaper/Ilsidur. This is the "knowing" that you get.

The Shaper

The Shaper is consecrated to Chaos and Law. It is through wisdom that he draws the wild and untamed powers focused by the Eternal Champions, and shapes them through Order and the Principle to return power to the group.

The Shaper may take two spells of the same level and combine them into one. This new spell must take up the domain slot of the next level higher. The way in which the two spells function is up to the Player. Once cast, this spell will effect all of the Group in the same way that a spell designated beginning with the word Mass does. The spells only effect the Eternal Champions, however, not their companions or familiars. The spells effect the entire group regardless of separation distance. The caster must be within proximity to the COMPLETE and ENTIRE group of Eternal Champions in order to prepare Shaper spells. He may prepare ordinary spells as usual regardless of his proximity to the group.

New spell combinations must be approved by the DM before use. Creativity is a requirement, and a proposed spell may be turned down for the lack of creativity. Inspiration, after all, is a manifestation of Chaos. Inappropriate spells, those with poor application, or those that are unbalancing may be turned down as well. Once approved, a spell combination may be prepared without further approval.

Example:
Blinding Eye of the Undead. Combines Detect Undead and Hide From Undead. Allows to both remain unperceived by undead while detecting them per the write up of both of the spells. Duration would be for 10 minutes per level. This spell would take up a 2nd level Domain slot.

[OOC: Al, thanks for the ideas. I will give them some thought, and try to come up with some spell ideas. I will roleplay the praying for them, and you can approve them or not based on the prayer. How does that sound?]

Ilsidur hurries across the clearing, to the side of the fallen woman. He quickly looks over her body, trying to determine what is wrong with her. [OOC: Heal check of 28.]

Looking up from the fallen woman, he says, "Spread out around the clearing, and make sure that those creatures have actually run off. We may need to get out of here quickly, if they have more friends."

"What were those things, Peerimus? Have you ever seen them in nature before?"

He to Luke "No! Luke! Those are not cats, there's nasty beast. Stay here and protect us."

Luke comes back but sniffs around the clearing and the edge of the woods.

Sly ask the same question as Ilsidur did, "What was IT? In my forty year, I have never seen any animal that look like that! Will she be alright? I'm out of potions!."

OOC: I have already put your new title The Shaper Ilsidur, Now I feel safer.

Niobe (67/67HP, AC 19)  d20+7=24 d20+8=28 d20+10=19
Tuesday May 24th, 2005 8:27:39 PM

Niobe enters the clearing with the others and watches the furry predators run off in fright.

"Well that was a waste of energy," the rogue says in a miffed hiss to herself.

(Spot 19, Survival 24, Knowl. Nature 28 (nat. 20); to see and identify the attacking creatures as possible Weres)

Werecats and Wounded Beauty (DM/Al)
Tuesday May 24th, 2005 9:21:41 PM

Firn'gaer enters the clearing, remaining by the head of the trail as the others head across to where the woman lies still in the grass.

Savin declares the dark attackers as possible lycanthropes. Though, in a life in which he has fought side by side with a being with the shape of a bull, a determination of lycanthropy based upon an animal form might be a bit hasty. Still, the thought is not without merit. The monk kneels by the woman a healer's kit spread before him.

Ilsidur, fresh from his brush with forces of cosmic scale, comes to the woman's other side. Before examining the woman, he prompts Peerimus to apply his druid's knowledge of nature and identify the dark attackers. Both he and Savin take in the many bloody torn claw and bite wounds in the woman's otherwise clear and translucent skin. Her frightful wounds aside, she is clearly very beautiful. Her clothing is of fine material and workmanship as well. Savin checks the woman's breath and finds that she still lives. Ilsidur feels for her heartbeat, and finds her stable.

As experienced healers, however, both know the consequences if Savin's conjecture hits the mark. The Curse of Lycanthrope is dangerous, both for those around the victim as well as the victim him or herself.

Sly and Luke belay their pursuit of the dark creatures and inquire of Peerimus' expertise as well. Still, something about the smell causes Luke to bristle. "Cat," he growls. "Smell cat."

And to Peerimus, they do have many feline characteristics. The eyes are a sure sign. One guess might be Wemics. But that is surely wrong as well. Yorrick gives a throaty grunt of ascent to his friends request and watches the trees, occasionally lifting his broad dark nose to scent the air.

Peerimus kneels and touches the ground. But the light is fading and tracking is difficult. Still, the prints are decidedly feline, though, oddly, longer than the normal feline print. As though elongated for bipedal locomotion.

Niobe arrives prepared for a fight. And she finds herself somewhat put out when one does not materialize. Both she and Peerimus are well aware of the ambiguous status of lycanthropic shape-shifters. They may take shapes from nature, but in their essence, they boarder on the unnatural. Though, the more Niobe thinks things through, from the looks of the creatures, to the cast of the prints on the ground, from all of these things, she becomes more and more certain that these creatures fit the description of Werecats.

The sun continues it's slide toward the edge of the Wold. The pleasent woods about them are still, as even the birds retire. Nothing moves within the darkening shadows. Soon night would fall lit only by the light of the two moons.

Savin
Tuesday May 24th, 2005 10:24:00 PM

Savin will hold the woman's hand and look down at her and smile. "Lady, You are safe now." Savin thinks to himself, "If you have been biten by werecats, your doomed!" He helps her to her feet and asks. "Do you know what those creatures were that attacked you?" Doommmed!

Savin looks around trying to recognize their surrounding and shakes his head, "This might seem a little weird, but we just arrived here and really don't know our way around yet. Can we escort you home? Then we can contact the authorities. I am sure they will be interested in hearing about 4 large cat creatures assaulting ahhhhh this fine city's citizens."
"I wonder where in the Wold we are?"

Ilsidur  d20+14=30
Tuesday May 24th, 2005 11:04:28 PM

Ilsidur tries to remember what he has been taught about contracting lycanthropy, and how to remove the curse if it has in fact been contracted. [OOC: Heal check of 30.]

"Peerimus, is this a safe place to rest for the night? I have no idea where we are, but I have a feeling that we will need to rest in a safe place."

Not sure what will become of the lady, he carefully binds her wounds, and then securely binds her with rope, again being careful not to hurt her. "If she has contracted lycanthropy, we need to make sure that she is contained while the moon(s) are full."

Sly (AC 20 86/86hp) and Luke (Ac 17 100/100hp)
Wednesday May 25th, 2005 7:06:25 AM

Sly looking around, stops at some animal prints. Looking to Peerimus "Luke just told me the they were Cats? These paw prints are big and long for cats? But if Luke says they are cat I for one belive him."
Sly stands asking the group "Night's is coming, Do we camp here? Or do we try to push on in the dark?" Sly will look towards his wizard friend Fien,"Fien-gare! You have a spell that can make a hut for us? That would make us safe. That way we could re-new our Spells!"

Luke looks into the wood, tell the both humans "Evil Cats".

Firn'gaer
Wednesday May 25th, 2005 9:27:09 AM

Making his way from the woodline after the coast is clear. "I do." He says in response to Sly's question. "It can give us a good 16 hours of shelter. That should give us all time to recover." He continues to lean heavily on his staff as he moves in. "Whether or not this place is suitable, I would suggest possibly a more open area. The forest allows foes the ability to get too close, wouldn't you say."

"I do have a suggestion. If Master Peerimus agrees, then he and I could scout a better location. Or perhaps a village in the nearby area."

Wednesday May 25th, 2005 2:36:48 PM

Peerimus stands from his crouch on the ground and looks back to Ilsidur. "I do not know."

Peerimus folds his arms and takes a deep breath, something here is unsettling the man, perhaps fatigue from the fight or from being dropped into a possible Lycanthrope fight is hard to tell.

Sly breaks his thought pattern and he nods his agreement, "They are cats, after a fashion Sly."

"I can quickly scout our immediate surrounding and with reliable vision in eagle form. I appreciate the offer Firn'gaer, but in your state perhaps it would be better to take it easy still."

Peerimus then shifts to an eagle and takes flight. [Spot 29]

Hey folks, Next week I am taking the family down to visit the out-laws in Florida. My mother outlaw does have a computer so I should be ok posting. I only see me missing posts on Monday and Tuesday when we visit Universal Studios. Could someone fill in for me those days if they don't see me posting by 9 pm?

Shadow of the Dark Moon (DM/Al)
Wednesday May 25th, 2005 10:50:12 PM

Savin thinks less than optimistic thoughts as he speaks to the beautiful red-headed woman. But, when he looks down, her eyes are closed. She's still unconscious from the strain of her wounds.

As Ilsidur tends to the bite wounds he reviews his knowledge of what is often known as the Curse of Lycanthropy. Symptoms do not usually appear until the first night of the next full moon. On such occasion, the afflicted involuntarily assumes animal form and forgets his or her own identity until the next dawn.

Under such conditions, it is not unusual for those afflicted by the Curse to behave violently, and in keeping with the nature of the animal to which their spirit has been drawn. In the throes of the affliction, people have been know to harm, slay, even eat those close to them. Little wonder Lycanthropy is known as a Curse.

Hence forth, whenever trauma is inflicted, the Curse seeks to assert itself again, even outside the auspices of the full moon. Taking the were form in the heat of battle, the Cursed will slay both friend and foe alike.

Sly and Luke examine the spoor of the dark beasts. Despite the shape of the prints, Luke insists they belong to cats. Sly re-affirms his faith in the war dog's keen nose before attending to matters of the evening and the possibility of a camp. Possibly the hut that Firn'gaer had been able to conjure so effectively in the wastes of Ice Vein.

Firn'gaer confirms that he has prepared the spell of the Secure Shelter. Still, the proper spot can be important. Especially in a land that they know next to nothing about. He proposes a quick scouting foray, he and Peerimus.

Peerimus stands from his examination of the spoor to address a matter of concern to all, the question of security for this night's rest. In deference to the wizard's depleted condition, Peerimus declines his company, and, in order to scout the area from the sky, shifts into the form of an eagle.

Rising on great wings above the tops of the surrounding trees, Peerimus encounters the unexpected. Like a great beast that towers over the tree-tops, a magnificent palace rises up into the air. Peerimus banks, and flaps his wings to climb even higher. From a greater height, even more amazing details appear. A paved way to the Northwest. To the Northeast, a mighty amphitheater. Walls, and causeways, temples, an arena.

Peerimus takes a moment from the marvels to bank and circle above the clearing. The light of the sun is nearly gone, and but a single moon sheds a dark light from its place in the wings to the East. Still, with the eagle's sensitive sight Peerimus can see the ground quite clearly. Some areas are obscured by the heavy foliage of the trees, but where the ground is revealed to his avian eyes, Peerimus sees no movement. The werecats are nowhere to be found.

Rising even higher into the sky, the druid encounters another surprise. Walls. Enormous walls rise in the distance. North, South, East, West, all points of the compass are enclosed in these far off walls.

Peerimus flies even higher. Higher, to rise above the obscuring level of the walls, to see what lies beyond. Higher he flies, into the sky as a full dark moon rises as well behind him. A gleam. A distant dark ripple like a reflection from water. Peerimus speeds through the air, following the light, flying into the dark moon. Over the tiny landscape below. Over the many seats of the enormous amphitheater. Out. And over the wall.

And the ground drops away, thousands of feet down through the dark. Down to the waters below. A body of water that runs off to the extent of vision. Who's distant shores are swallowed by the darkness that is shed by the great full moon above. Peerimus banks again to bring himself back around in the direction from which he had come, and he is dwarfed. Dwarfed by the tower. They are on a tower. The Children of Chaos have found themselves on top of an incredible tower situated in the middle of a great expanse of water. The wall of the tower stands, as awe inspiring as a natural formation, like the cliffs of a mountainous rock aerie. And yet this is clearly the construction of men. Up the tower's smooth sides, prodigious vines climb even to the tops of the walls. The size boggles the mind. The enormity fills the druid's brain flooding him with a sense of its power. Peerimus hears a cry in his head, proud and strong. He banks again and climbs, crying out again, for surely the voice that he hears is his own. His voice cries out to challenge the dark moon above for mastery of the skies. Peerimus is a Roc and the beat of his wings is thunder in the air. Peerimus is a Roc, and the skies must belong to none but him.

Back down in the glade below, unaware of what surrounds them, the other Children of Chaos hear the deep an distant avian cry. A single moon rises in the sky above, round and full. But the light that this moon sheds is full of shadows, a dark moon. And, as it rises, the ground trembles.

At their feet, the woman, bound as she is, stirs as though in restless sleep. Suddenly, her eyes open wide. Her shoulders tremble as though from a great effort. One side of her lip curls as though in a snarl. Her nose crinkles and her teeth bare. From her lips she emits a low growl.

And then she is still. Her breast heaves, the remnants of some great effort. From the ground, she turns her head to survey the Children of Chaos arrayed around her. Dwarf, half-elves, humans, bear, and dog.

With a single glance she takes in her bonds. Or rather, the fact that she is bound.

"I am the Lady Celine of House Stizein. I take it that you have routed the cats."

Savin will look down at the lady and smile. "Nay lady. I wish we could say we slew them, but they saw us and ran. We were more concerned with you and didn't give them chase.

Oh I am sorry. I forgot my manners. I am Savin, a monk and a follower of Domi. We are all members of the Children of Chaos. We just found ourselves magically transported to this land. We arrived here and almost immediately heard your scream. We can to investigate, saw your attack, and came to your aid. Once of my companions is off looking for your assailants right now."

Savin will look kindly down at her and continue, "I am sorry about the ropes but were feared your assailants are werecats. They could have infected you with the disease and we tied you as a precaution. Can we take you somewhere where you could be treated? Do you live nearby?"

Savin will help her to her feet but leaves her hands tied.

Niobe  d20+9=16
Thursday May 26th, 2005 12:20:38 AM

Niobe will follow the tracks for a few. She won't be going all that far from the clearing however. She is just going to try and determine what general direction the werecats are travelling and at what speed and form (i.e. what wereform; most likely in cats form??).

Firn'gaer
Thursday May 26th, 2005 9:56:17 AM

The great avian cry causes Firn'gaer's head to turn. "That sounds much larger than the eagle. Peerimus be careful." He says looking to Yorrick.

The wizard hears Savin's speaking of the group's name, "I'm sorry Savin, I haven't been a Child in quite some time. My lady, please if we must be refer to us as something then Eternal Champions not Children of Chaos." He says looking at Savin and then judging reactions from the others.

"What kingdom are we in my lady." Noting the mention of her house.

Peerimus
Thursday May 26th, 2005 5:19:44 PM

incredible, wonderful blessed among the blessed

The druids mind swims, how did he do this and could he do it again? Still higher he pounds his great wings and the Wold continues spiraling further away below him. The druid is all but lost in the glory of these momnets.

Higher, dizzyingly higher he climbs, the tower falls below him as does teh expanse of the lake. Peerimus takes in teh majesty and power that Mother has deemed him worthy to see and he is restored. A powerful blast SSKKKKKKKKRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!! echoes across the sky in challenge and claiming.

Far, far below Yorrick shakes his great head several times and sniffs the air. The bear is almost sure that is food it smells, human food.

Sly and Luke
Thursday May 26th, 2005 6:01:21 PM

"Hmmm! I wonder if I can let My Romio Weasel statue out for the night. You know le him have his romantic fling??"....
Then he hears the screeck of a very large bird?? Sly looks to the sky, he sees a very large bird making big circles in the twilight. What an impression that bird makes.

Luke goes to Yurrick, "Your Master?"

Ilsidur
Thursday May 26th, 2005 9:39:20 PM

"Good to make your acquaintance, Lady. My name is Ilsidur Wayfinder, and I am the healer of this group. Can you tell us where we are? As my friend has said, we have been magically transported here, and we really don't know where 'here' is."

Pandemonium (DM/Al)
Thursday May 26th, 2005 9:59:33 PM

[OoC: Please ready carefully. Many things happening all at once.]

Niobe, set upon gleaning information about the werecats from the nature of their trail, moves toward the tree line. There are several clear breaks in the foliage made by the passage of the werecats as they plunged through to enact their escape. Twigs and branches hang broken in their wake. The ranger in Niobe eyes the trees and bushes. They strike her as full and healthy, happy in a way. An image comes to her mind of swaying gently in the breeze beneath the full roundness of the sun. Happy and well cared for, lifting her leaves to the nourishing rays.

"The cats have gone, you know?" Tiny voices buzz in the rogue/ranger's mind. "They've gone away. But that's alright. It is the wild ones. They come. The wild ones come. We hear their call. We fear their need. At the Urge of the Wakened they come. They come! Quail and bow, the Dark Moon rises. Quail and bow beneath his Face ... "

Around Niobe the leaves shiver in the trees. They shiver in the air with no breeze to stir them.

Nearby, oblivious to the plant voices that speak to the ranger alone, Sly and Firn'gaer raise their eyes to the heavens as an avian call of challenge cuts the night air. Up above hangs the full moon, a round disk shining with darkness.

Savin, Firn'gaer, and Ilsidur stand over the bound form of Lady Celine. She eyes the three from her place upon the ground.

"We pay tribute to no Kingdom lest it be that of Elenna," she answers in response to Firn'gaer. A note of pride rides in her voice. "And as Elenna is long gone and replaced, we do not say that we are of any Kingdom."

"However, if you wish an answer straight, then you are in the Floating City in the midst of Turtle Lake. And the domiciles of House Stizein are on Gold Level. I thank you for my rescue from the Cats. Your appearance was fortuitous, and I am grateful. But I assure you that the bonds are unnecessary." Her green eyes stray to the dark moon. The Lady Celine frowns.

Luke looks up as well, catching the shadow of a very large bird. "Your Master?" he asks, Yorrick.

Yorrick, however, seems not himself. Primal images. Loping across forest floor. The snap as his paw breaks the bones of his prey. Taste of blood in his jaws. Primal images. Yorrick turns his broad brown head to Luke. His eyes are rimmed with red. Saliva drips from his jaws. A deep and threatening growl rumbles in his throat.

Peerimus soars in the dark sky, climbing higher. His powerful wings beat the air taking him even higher still, higher under the orb of the Dark Moon. Suddenly, far below the night air begins to rip in twain. Peerimus watches as the dark waters below begin to churn in a white line from the edge of Floating City, moving outward toward what lies in the night beyond. Something rises up from below, flinging water high into the air. Peerimus banks for a different view, and as he approaches from the side, the movement below takes on a clearer cast.

A vine. An enormous vine, attached to the wall of the tower. Many feet thick, it rises out of the water as it is pulled by something out in the darkness.

Another churning it the waters, another vine rising from the depths. Another, and another, and another. Water cascades from the cable-like vines as they rise and pull taught high in the air.

Back in the clearing the ground shudders again. The sound of rushing falls comes from over the treetops and off in the distance. Quite suddenly, two hands of shadowy figures appear at the tree line. Over eight feet tall, they rival the trees with their silhouettes. There is a growl of warning, and it is a moment before the sound can be placed as coming from the woman lying bound upon the ground.

Then again the ground shakes, and this time it rebels. The air is filled with the crash of trees as the floor of the glade lifts, shuddering into the air. (Reflex Save vs. DC20 or be thrown to the ground.) When the rumble quiets, the shadowy figures are now a hand full of men. They walk uphill toward the group, as it is clear that the ground is now tilted at an angle.

"Lady Celine," one of them calls out. All have weapons drawn.

"I am well," she calls back. "Stand down. These have rescued me from the Cats it seems."

"Children of Chaos, release my bonds and we will make for House Stizein. This night, it is darker than it should be." Again she raises her eyes to the moon.

In the sky above, Peerimus circles as the vines pull at the tower, now visibly tilted. Below, Yorrick sniffs with his broad black nose. The nearest thing is Dog. And Yorrick is feeling hungry.

Savin  d20+11=13
Thursday May 26th, 2005 10:13:42 PM

Savin stumbles to the ground falling onto the lady. He quickly raises himself back off, blushing red. "I am so sorry my Lady. The earth shifted and I lost my balance." He reaches down and releases her from her bonds. "I guess these aren't necessary."

He looks around at the vines growing and the sudden shift in the ground and asks, "Is this normal? What is going on? Yes I guess we should get you home."

He will look at his companions and say, "Well it looks like Lady Chaos has dropped us into the thick of things again. Has anyone every seen Peerimus turn into a Roc before?"

Sly Foxx and Luke  d20+5=25 d20+4=11
Friday May 27th, 2005 7:50:27 AM

Sly answers Savin "No! I never seen his as a Roc before, But he does look like one fine bird!".

Then the whole place starts to rock and he can hardly stand on his feet. If it was nor for Savin being next to him to steady his body, Sly would be on his back with both feet up in the air with his pride!.

Luke sencing the bear is in trouble slowly back away from his now enermy Yurrick, Luke back no more than three feet away from the mad bear. The ground shakes, chatching Luke off guard, he fall to the ground. Luke makes the first thing that comes to his mind, "MASTER! HELP!"

Sly hears Luke call, he takes out his sword (ready to go to Lukes side) Will yell at the rest of the Children "SOMEONE CALL! PREEMUS DOWN!"

Peerimus  d20+16=27
Friday May 27th, 2005 9:14:51 AM

Freedom, control, the very heart of nature and Chaos. Peerimus is exhuberant, but he also knows his duty and obligations. Self indulgence must take a back seat to telling the others what he knows and has seen.

Sharp eyes watch as the massive vines enwrap the Floating city and start to pull. Peerimus pivots and folds his enormous wings close to him and hurtles earthward, hundreds of feet fly by in an instant and then over 100' of wing unfurrows and the maddening descent is ended. The great bird banks and circles above the vines but now much closer to see if there is a cause to their attack. [Spot 27] He will make one pass over the vines and water, for with the tilting of the great city-tower, he knows his friends may need him and to know upon what it is they stand.

Yorrick  d20+12=17
Friday May 27th, 2005 5:44:49 PM

The large bear hears the call of the wild. Blood rushes through his veins, his heart pounds and the primal thundering of combat fills his ears. Distant in his mind their is a call a task, but it is being quickly forgotten. The ring of steel sets him in motion. A challenger!

Yorrick stands to his full 12 foot height and lifts his great claws in the air at Sly's sudden drawing of steel. The ground thunders and lifts suddenly and he loses balance, crashing to the ground. Widly the bear works to gain its legs again, for more interlopers are approaching.

Niobe  d20+12=28
Friday May 27th, 2005 5:46:26 PM

Niobe looks at the whispering trees with some appearent scepticism.
"Ok, you're not going insane... the trees just confided their fears in you... bother!" Niobe thinks to herself.

Niobe looks carefully at the obviously healthy; yet shuddering, trees. She talks to herself in a quiet whisper, "I didn't used to be able to do any of that..."

The trees sudder noticably in fear. Niobe looks apprehensive.

"Whoa! Wait one minute! Who are the wild ones? Why does what they need scare you? Is the Wakened the so called Fairy King??"

Talking to trees like some half insane person does not strike Niobe as odd at the moment - strangely enough.

When the ground rumbles and shakes violently Niobe has no trouble keeping her footing. (Ref. save 28)

Niobe rejoins the others in the clearing just in time to miss everything that was spoken. She sees the lady's armed reinforcements and decides to keep her rapier firmly in hand.

"Anyone care to tell me who this lot is?" Niobe asks the others and indicates the Lady Celine's guards(?). Niobe is standing at the very edge of the treeline while getting an overview of what is happening in the clearing.

Firn'gaer  d20+11=29 d20+10=26
Friday May 27th, 2005 11:31:39 PM

Seeing all hell breaking lose around them Firn'gaer isn't sure where to start first. The appearance of House Stizein guard is a mixed blessing considering his current state. The obvious change to the druid is of some concern and a more immediate threat is the mysterious madness that has taken over the great brown bear.

Is there no peace! Firn'gaer thinks as he decides Yorricks imminent threat is the greatest danger.

Calling on his remaining arcane power, Firn'gaer turns his attention to the great bear and calls forth a protective barrier of force to isolate Yorrick from the rest of the group.

As he finishes the the wall, he calls out to the new arrivals, "We are no threat. She is unharmed only tied out of caution because of the werecat attackers." He says. "I am Firn'gaer Gyddyn of New Elenna, member of the Star Mages's Guild. You have my word no harm is intended."

We Must Go. Now. (DM/Al)
Saturday May 28th, 2005 10:49:28 AM

In the night sky above, Peerimus returns to his sense of duty. Wheeling in the sky, he shoots out over the lake toward the source of the great vines. The shimmer of dark water below gives way to the more solid dark mystery of land. Still the vines stretch on. The vines, pulled taut, stretch out over a tumbled terrain of closely packed trees, heavy woods or jungle. But, even in a jungle, what would produce such vines?

Then, in the light of the Dark Moon, rising up above the tops of the trees, shapes of gargantuan proportions resolve from the gloom. One. Three. Seven. They dot the landscape, the huge vines enter the canopy of trees in a scattering similar to the positions of these towering tree-like forms. Time to return.

"The Faerie King! The Faerie King! Love and Dread. He calls to us."

As the ground shakes, the chorus of plants fades into a cacophony of voices in Niobe's ear, and she turns away, returning to the group.

Hunger and menace drip from Yorrick like spittle from his jaws, and Luke backs cautiously away. Then the ground slips from under Luke's feet, throwing him beneath the claws of the bear. Sly keeps his footing, and steps between dog and bear, drawing his sword with the ring of steel. Yorrick roars at the threat of the blade and rises to his full height, intent upon thundering down upon the puny creature before him with the full force of his weight.

The ground shakes again, throwing Yorrick from his hind legs. Savin falls atop Lady Celine. Firn'gaer retains his footing. Through the apocalyptic noise and violent shaking, the wizard weaves a spell. Yorrick recovers quickly and leaps to his feet. Charging across the sward, the massive brown bear runs full force into an invisible barrier. (Yorrick takes 1d6 damage/Similar to Fall damage) For the moment, he moans in confusion, pacing the line of the obstructing force.

Lady Celine's breast are full and soft. Savin, in a burning flush of embarrassment, apologizes for having fallen upon her. In amends, he begins to undo her bonds.

"Stand down!" Lady Celine repeats the command. A man with the blade of a glaive at the back of Savin's head, withdraws. Two groups of three, however, retain their formations, two with glaives behind one with a longsword. Both groups of three watch the maddened bear.

... Star Mage ... New Elenna ... A murmur goes through the ranks of armed men as Firn'gaer declares himself.

Lady Celine rises and takes in the group arrayed around her, then she addresses one of the armed men.

"They speak the truth, Marco. As much as I know of it. At any rate Tarleth is not here. And events have followed that cannot be but dire."

"Nor," she turns her eyes once again to the Dark Moon above, "do I believe any longer that it is the Bane of Tosden that is the cause of these happenings. We must return to House Stizein. Perhaps through Lorbius, we may convince House Ursidae to allay their complaint until such time that the incursions from the Crying Wood have been beaten back or subsided."

"Again, I thank you," Lady Celine turns her attention to the assembled group of strangers. "Dark and violent times have fallen upon our city, Children of Chaos. Upon our city, and perhaps beyond. I would be ungrateful were I not to offer you the protection of House Stizein. At least for this night. Or, if you wish, I and my personal guard will escort you as far as Gold Level."

"Unfortunately," her green eyes turn to Yorrick, pacing behind the barrier, "I can do nothing for the bear. And we must go. Now."

"Would that Lorbius were here," she whispers, and in her voice there is a weigh of feeling beyond the simple regret from lack of the convenience.

As the Lady Celine speaks, Firn'gaer reviews his knowledge of the legendary Floating City. Said to be somewhere in the Uncharted Lands, it is only accessible by means of a teleportation ring located in Plateau City. Supposedly the great and highly independent city-state rises from the waters of a tremendous lake, that is, in turn ringed by a trackless semi-sentient forest. The city is said to be composed of six levels. Open Level on which the ruling Overlord lives. Gold Level, reserved for the noble houses of the City. Merchant Level. Fence Level which sets at the level of the Lake. Trash Level, below. And a mysterious Under Level of which little is known.

Savin
Saturday May 28th, 2005 11:47:37 AM

Savin will draw himself up and grasp his hands behind his back, his face still red. "Lady, We are strangers to this land but the Crone of Chaos wouldn't have sent us here unless we needed to be here. I think we should go with you. I think we were sent to you for a reason. We did arrive just when you need us."

Savin will look over at Yorrick and then say, "The bear's name is Yorrick and he is the companion of our druid Peerimus." Savin will point up towards the Roc flying towards them.
"Something is going wonky with nature. Yorrick is a boon companion and a good friend. He has saved my life more than once."

Savin pauses for a minute and struggles to put it into words, "We can't leave a sick friend behind. Yorrick is more than a bear, he is our dear friend. I believe Peerimus will be able to control him. Besides do you want to leave him here where he might hurt someone else? Please let Yorrick accompany us as well. You won't regret it, I promise." Sincerity glows from the young monks eyes.

Sly and Luke
Sunday May 29th, 2005 6:17:15 AM

"Easy! Yurrick! Some thing is bothering you, is it that your hungry?? You have been fighting very hard in the pass few days!" Sly will put away his sword and suffle in his back pack. He come up whith a weeks ration.
"Now! to feed you?" as Sly knock on the invisible wall'knock...knock'. Sly asking Fien-gare, "Friend Fien-gare! how high is this wall go? I would like to feed this fine bear, I think he's very hungry.
Luke! Do you want to share your bone with Yurrick?" Sly also ask his dog.

Luke look at Sly as if he has just gone mad, "NO!"

Niobe
Sunday May 29th, 2005 8:42:39 PM

The plant babble unsettles the rogue/ranger some. She figured that the Fairy King was bad news, but the plants "confirming" her thoughts don't make her feel any better about the whole situation.
Very little of what the woman says makes much sense to Niobe at the moment. Neither for that matter does Yorrick's "temporary insanity".
Niobe levels an unfriendly glare at the guard that had his glaive pointing at Savin's head just recently.

Firn'gaer  d20+8=20 d20+8=27
Sunday May 29th, 2005 9:21:35 PM

"I agree, my lady, the forest is not a safe place this night." He says taking a non-agressive posture though he does cringe slightly at the mention of the Children of Chaos as it is continual reminder of his current situation.

"Savin, I agree that Yorrick is a valued companion, but at this moment he is not and I'm not willing to take any chances. Master Peerimus, when he returns, may handle the bear. Until then none of us can, so leave him here." He says taking a position to follow Lady Celine and her guard. "It would a simple task for the skilled druid to follow our trail through these woods."

To Sly all he says is, "It's high enough to keep him on the other side, my friend and us safe."

Peerimus and Yorrick  d20+16=31 d20+20=37 d20+17=23
Monday May 30th, 2005 1:12:40 PM

The great roc beats his wings in great sweeping arcs, climbing back again to a higher level over the sea and great tower. Peerimus scans the area he left on the Open Level for the group. [spot 31] and comes in for a landing and reverts to human.

Yorrick still paces upon the other side of the wall, an occassional grunt of disatisfaction coming from him.

Peerimus quickly takes in his surroundings, the others are gone and Yorrick pinned behind a magical barrier. Peerimus first picks his way lightly to his friend and through the barrier attempts to calm him. "You are unhurt my friend as am I. Everything is well. Where did they go? And who erected this?" [Handle animal 23] Unable to shift for a fifth time, Peerimus can not simply talk to Yorrick but that is not the only path open to him.

The druid picks his way through the area with methodical precision, knowing the firm ground will readily tell the tale of what transpired while he was away [Track Survival 37]. Once found, he will attempt to circumnavigate the barrier and get to Yorrick.

Luke tells yurrick "See you!"

To The Underramp (DM/Al)  d20+17=36
Monday May 30th, 2005 9:11:32 PM

[OoC: An interesting conundrum. How to resolve things? Hmmm ... ]

Lady Celine glances skyward at Savin's reference to a Roc. She takes in the figure wheeling in the sky. Again she eyes Yorrick pacing back and forth behind the invisible barrier. (Spellcraft 36) She looks to the left, then to the right, as though following the line of the barrier.

"He is confused," she says, "but he will soon discover that the wall that impedes him has ends around which he might come. I have nothing with which to subdue him that will not bring him harm."

As though reading the noble lady's thoughts, Yorrick pauses to sniff the air. He casts about, widening the scope of his probes.

"Something is indeed wonky with nature." The ground lurches again as though to punctuate her statement, and Lady Celine stumbles with the movement.

"The city is tipping!" she shouts. "Can you not see the tilt of the ground?" From a pouch she extracts paper and a thing stylus. "I will leave your friend a note. He should be down soon enough. However, if we remain here, we may be forced to do harm to this creature." The guardsmen remain in their triangle formation, point man with sword in a defensive stance, two men with glaives arcing over him to attack. Clearly they have dealt with bears, or their kind before.

Completing the note, she folds it into a long strip and then ties the strip into a knot. (Spot vs DC20 to read this much before she folds the note: Highlight to display spoiler: {"Peerimus. Your friends are well. Come to House Stizein. 47 Gold Lane. - Celine of House Stizein."}) She speaks a single word, and the knot of paper begins to glow with light.

Lady Celine watches as Sly's bundle arcs through the darkness lit by the Fae Moon. "Come, let us go. My father will be able to tell us of what is happening to the city." She places the glowing note on the grass and heads for the tree line. Yorrick roars and charges forward again as the guards back away after her. The brown bear encounters the force barrier again, and shakes his head in confusion, growling as his meal escapes. It is a short distance through the woods before the group breaks out onto the shores of a small lake. Against the night sky, a towering palace rises above the tops of the trees.

"The Underramp is this way," Lady Celine points around the edge of the lake. For a moment she hesitates. "Pazzu," she addresses one of her guards, "can you remain undetected by the bear and yet still watch the area?" The guard nods in ascent. Then, as though by silent, consent he falls away from the main group and disappears into the woods.

"When your friend returns, Pazzu will guide them to House Stizein," she says, and then moves off along the shoreline. "We will not be in the woods for long."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Peerimus, on the ground once more, attempts to read the spoor of events that had occurred in his absence. Yorrick comes to the barrier to meet his friend. The strain shows in the bear's breathing, his walk, his plaintive moan. He runs a large pink tongue across the barrier at the place where Peerimus holds his hand.

The tracks are not difficult to pick out. Ten or so extra tracks that approach from the edge of the trees. The ground is undisturbed and there are no traces of blood. Ultimately, they lead away. Away from Yorrick.

Peerimus has seen this type of barrier before. Firn'gaer has produced it several times. Then again, so did the Archmage, Meznock. It's presence could mean many things. But first things first. Peerimus follows the line of the barrier in search of its edge. Yorrick follows along on the other side, till, at last, they are united.

"I believe this is meant for you," the voice is deep and resonant. The druid turns to find an enormous man, almost seven-feet tall with shoulders near as broad as Yorrick's. In his hand, he holds an glowing piece of paper ... unfolded. "That is, if you are Peerimus." The man approaches, holding the sheet before him. "I apologize. I hope you don't mind me reading it. It is difficult to tell who a note might be for if one does not read it first."

"My name is Lorbius of the House Ursidae," the man introduces himself as he strides forward. "And who are you, my magnificent friend?"

Yorrick raises his head and chuffs in reply. "Yes, that's right," the man says. A smile spreads across the broad face of the man's pleasant well-tanned face.

Another figure steps from the shadows.

"Lord Lorbius," the man kneels and drops his head.

The large man turns toward the new voice. "Pazzu. Has the Lady Celine gone far?"

"No, My Lord," the man at arms replies, "they are, perhaps, no further than the Underramp at this very moment. I was to escort the druid and his bear to House Stizein upon the druid's return. And ... the ... abatement of the bear's hunger, My Lord."

Lorbius of House Ursidae lifts his eyes to the sky. "Yes, this night has brought the light of an evil moon." He returns his regard to Peerimus and Yorrick. "And you have great nobility of spirit to resist it, my friend," he says. He extends an arm, again offering the note. "Shall we to House Stizein, Peerimus the Druid? It appears that your friends are already on their way. And few know the happenings of Floating City like Malneth of Stizein."

Sly and Luke
Tuesday May 31st, 2005 7:28:53 AM

Sly follows behind the party, he also notace the guards men behond him. "Look Luke! how beautiful every thing is!"

Luke who trots along side Sly, ask "Where?"

Niobe
Tuesday May 31st, 2005 9:52:11 AM

Niobe doesn't really feel comfortable leaving Yorrick and Peerimus behind; no matter what Lady Celine says or writes.
Niobe doesn't exactly trust Lady Celine, but "every one else" seems to so she will reluctantly join them on the trek back to the city, and hope that Peerimus and Yorrick are able to join them later.

Savin
Tuesday May 31st, 2005 10:55:24 AM

Savin will slow down his normal pace and walk as close to the Lady as the guards will allow. "My lady, Can you tell us what is going on? Like I said when we found you, we had just arrived in the city and don't know what is going on.

What would cause the city to tip over? Why are these flowers everywhere? We until recently have been in the Ice Vein and I like to see flowers but this seems abnormal. What were those creatures attacking you? I am sorry to flood you with questions but my master taught me information can be your most important weapon."

Peerimus and Yorrick
Tuesday May 31st, 2005 11:54:14 AM

Peerimus gives Yorrick a great hug around the neck. "I know these last weeks have been hard my friend, but I'm afraid our respit has been put on hold. This city is in danger and these people may need our help." With a great sigh the druid collapses upon the tilted ground as Yorrick lays down next to him. "I don't know my friend, maybe Father is trying to tell me something, perhaps the noble races have come to the end of thier run and it is time the baton was handed back once again to Fathter and Mothers other children." As the druid thinks on the matter, a voice springs him to his feet.

Peerimus, nods at his name, "I am and it matters not how I feel, the deed is done. This is Yorrick." Peerimus cocks his head and smiles at Yorrick's grunt and turning back to the stranger as the other man emerges. Lord eh?

Peerimus listens to thier conversation and excepts the offered note, giving it a quick read. "Yes, we should make haste, I have information that any who care for this city need know." Peerimus will fall in behind whoever takes the lead and walks at a brisk pace forcing them to speed up. Peerimus and Yorick both have speeds of 40 currently]

I'm Not Sure Why, But I Trust You (DM/Al)
Tuesday May 31st, 2005 9:27:36 PM

Lady Celine leads the way around the shore of the small lake, and takes a path that opens on east. The guards ring the group in a protective formation.

"You are very perceptive," the noble lady says in reply to Savin's questions. "I think your Master and my Father would get along famously. The flowers and the vines that bear them are not common to the city. They, in fact, have appeared only in the last few days time."

"Yes," she says, as though anticipating their incredulity, "all of these vines and flowers. They have grown at an alarming rate, appearing even to the top of the Floating City in but a few days. They have most surely come from the Crying Wood. But why? And why now?"

She eyes the Children of Chaos, taking their measure before continuing. Niobe in particular, she examines. To the rogue's look of distrust, she presents a smile.

"I feel that I can trust you. I am not certain why, but I do. I and my men had been searching the Open Level for my brother. We suspect that something that he took may be involved with the events of the past few days. From its description, I do not see how. But it is said to be an item of considerable, and so the possibility cannot be ignored."

"I separated from my men for but a moment before I was set upon by the Cats. They do not normally leave the Trash Level, and one would most certainly not expect them to be up this far. That, and the quaking of the city. Look, the ground is inclined."

"Perhaps the Teucri machinery deep below the city has wakened. Perhaps ... " her eyes stray again to the dark sky and the Fae Moon above. Then she shakes her head. "I do not know. But, if anyone can find out, it will be my father."

"And, perhaps, he will be able to find a way to return you to your Ice Vein."

The path soon turns north before broadening into a large road. A squad of 25 men marching abreast could make their way down the way and still leave room for spectators along the sides. The road is empty. Eerie in the spectral light of the Dark Moon.

Lady Celine looks up and down the empty street with concern.

"They must have sealed of the Open Level. Everyone has been ordered in doors. Quickly, I believe the guard will allow us to use the Underramp to return to Gold Level. But I doubt we will be able to return this way until whatever is happening is resolved."

The group turns right and heads east down the broad boulevard. Very shortly, they come to a ramp as broad as the street upon which they walk. The ramp descend into the ground. Guards stand watch at the entrance.

At the sight of Lady Celine. The guards nod in silence and stand aside.

Pazzu takes the lead through the woods and then around the small lake.

"These friends of yours, Peerimus," Lord Lorbius rumbles. "Please pardon me, but I could not help but observe you as you came from the sky in the form of a Roc. Would these friends of yours perchance be a Dragon group?"

"We have been experiencing disturbing signs from the Crying Woods these past few days. Vines have covered the city more rapidly that I have every seen. At times, they speak to me."

"It would be a boon to the city were King Claudia to have seen fit to send Dragons to investigate the latest rumblings from across the Lake."

Ilsidur
Tuesday May 31st, 2005 10:22:44 PM

A Floating City, werecats, huge magical vines, unnatural flowers, Peerimus' bear companion under some sort of compulsion ...

All these inputs area a little overwhelming for the dwarf. As far as he can tell, the party is no longer even on the same continent. "Lady, I certainly hope that your father can explain what is going on," he says as he follows along into the opening. "Does this gold level perhaps have any ale in it? I am very thirsty, and there was a definite lack of ale in the caverns below the Ice Vein."

Sly and Luke
Wednesday June 1st, 2005 6:40:55 AM

Sly follows along with his friends and stands shoulder to shoulder as they pass the streets of Floating City. "So this is where King Claudia lived!" he looks to everything with wonder.
Lady Celine mentions that maybe her Father could send the Children of Chaos back to Ice Vein, Sly has to say something, "No! My Lady! We have finish our task there, and sent here for another Problem at hand."
Sly ears pick up when Ilsidur mention ALE, he has not had a good Alt since he was at the Giggling Ghost. "Frind Ilsidur! I'll drink to that!"

Luke wanting to get in on the good stuff, chimes in "Soup Bone Too?"

Leaving the trees and entering the Underramp, the wizard notices the empty streets and Lady Celine's explaination.

"My lady there is no hurry for us to return the cold lands of the Ice Veins. I would like to take time to visit the wonders of the Floating City I've heard so much about as a child. Perhaps when all strange occurances have been resolved, I can arrange a tour of the city?" Firn'gaer says interjecting into the conversation.

Still looking about the empty streets make him uneasy. As he looks about, Rufus sensing his master's discomfort climbs from his robes to sit on his shoulder.

"Rufus you be resting until we can deal with the poison." He says to the brown rodent.

I want to see. I've rested long enough. Where are the people? Still in trouble, aren't we.

"I hope not." He says quietly.

An ale would taste good about now. Firn'gaer thinks as Sly and Ilsidur mention the alcoholic beverage.

"Ilsidur, do have the means to deal with lasting effects of the Cloudkill spell?"

Reunions (DM/Al)
Wednesday June 1st, 2005 9:36:25 PM

Lord Lorbius walks along side Peerimus and Yorrick as they emerge onto a broad boulevard.

"The Crying Wood has posed it's threat to Floating City for ages," the large man rumbles as they stride along toward the east. "The Father and the Mother have spoken to me. Through my strength and through my senses." The large man extends an arm and flexes a broad and well muscled hand. "A few vines and flowers cannot make me believe that they have forsaken us." He walks in silence for a moment.

"And yet the ground tilts. Could it be an attack from the Lake? Malneth will know," he says. His eyes darken with a private concern, then they narrow and his head nods as though a decision has been made.

The group of four approach the entrance to the Underramp. It takes no more than a wave from Lord Lorbius, and they pass the guards unchallenged.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

"There are few in Floating City who know more of the goings on than my Father," Lady Celine assures Ilsidur as they continue down the broad ramp. You may all rest at House Stizein. It would be best if you stayed the night. All appears quiet, and yet without further knowledge of what has caused the City to quake so, it is difficult to say what may be truly safe. And yes, we have ale." For the first time, Lady Celine grins and her green eyes sparkle.

"I must confess that I have never heard of this land of Ice Vein. And, as that is the case, it must be very far indeed. And yet you appear to know of our City. May I inquire as to where you ... "

Lady Celine's voice trails away as the guards suddenly separate. They form again into triads in triangle formation. They're weapons point back up the ramp in the direction from which the group had come.

Behind them, approaching at a brisk pace, come Peerimus and Yorrick with the guard named Pazzu in the lead. Walking next to them is a large man, almost seven feet tall. Tanned by the rays of the sun, his hair is drawn back and tied behind his head. They approach to within 30 paces and stop out of respect for the wary guardsmen and their duty.

Lady Celine walks slowly back up the ramp, her eyes on the tall stranger. She waves the guards away, almost as an afterthought.

"Lady Celine!" a guard interjects, his voice strained with concern.

"Hush, Marco," she replies, Ger eyes never leaving the man not thirty feet away up the ramp. "It will be alright."

"Lady Celine," the tall man rumbles, his head drops in a respectful bow.

"Lord Lorbius," she replies.

"It has been many days since ... last we spoke."

"Yes," she replies, "many days."

"I greatly regret the circumstances of that meeting."

Lady Celine only nods.

"Were it left to me, the situation would have been approached with greater circumspection. Such accusations from House Ursidae ... "

Celine does no more than softly raise her hand and shake her head. "Wrong is seldom perpetrated by one side alone. My father is a proud man. And, my brother is, after all, his son."

Understanding passes between the two. The topic drops away.

"How have you been, Lord Lorbius?"

"Well, Lady Celine. And yet the days ... "

The two stand, locked in a moment, both public and private. It is Celine who turns away first.

"We must go, Lord Lorbius. Dire events transpire within the city. An evil moon rises. The ground shakes. I have seen Cats on Open Level."

"Yes, Lady Celine. I came seeking you and came upon their tracks."

Celine nods. "And these people, they come from a distant land. They seek refuge."

Loribus bows in courtly fashion to the Children of Chaos who ring Lady Celine. "This, Lady Celine, as I'm sure you are already aware, is Peerimus. His companion has indicated that you have, in a way, already met. With this, Druid Peerimus, you are united with your companions."

"Lady Celine, I would accompany you to House Stizein."

"But Father will ... "

"I would speak with your father Celine. Of many things. It is far past time. And things of import should not be held hostage by petty offenses."

Lady Celine nods in silence.

The ground lurches suddenly again, visibly sliding out from under the feet of all. The Children of Chaos, the guards and the two nobles are thrown about like dolls in a box. This time, however, unlike before, there is no soft grass underfoot.

Savin

Savin smiles at the Lady and says, "Then I would very much like to meet your Father, for my master was a wise and compassionite man. If more men or women like that were in the world, things would be better."

Savin's eyes will dart around taking in everything. He too notices the tilt in the ground and asks, "Do you think there could be a connection between the vines and the tilting. Is the city getting to heavy on one side?"

Ilsidur
Wednesday June 1st, 2005 9:57:48 PM

Ilsidur moves up beside Firn'gaer as the two Floating City residents carry on their discussion. "Here you go, Firn, I think that this might do the trick." He scatters a little diamond dust on the mage, and speaks a few chosen words. [OOC: Cast Restoration on Firn'gaer.]

He listens quietly to the rest of the discussion, and then says, "A rest is definitely in order; thank you for the invitation. Now, about that ale that I mentioned...?"

Firn'gaer  d20+10=27 d20+5=9 d6=6 d20+8=22 d20+8=16

"Thanks Ilsidur." He says receiving the Restoration spell from the dwarf cleric.

The noblewoman's voice trails off as her guard jump into action. Firn'gaer, too, stands ready as weapons are drawn by the very well trained guard of House Stizein.

Coming into view is two men he doesn't know and Peerimus and Yorrick. The wildlust seems to have passed with the great bear and Firn'gaer starts to move up as well to meet them when the ground lurches and pitches.

Apparently still a little on edge from the house guard's reaction, Firn'gaer is able to keep himself from injuring himself further. Rufus is not as lucky. The brown rat sitting on his master's shoulder is thrown a good distance and lands roughly on the hard ground. Shaken and in bad shape Rufus is slow to find the safety of his master's robes.

"RUFUS!" Shouts Firn'gaer as he realizes his familiar is no longer sitting on his shoulder. Ingoring all other happenings, he looks to make sure that his friend still lives. Locating him, he lifts the rodent and carefully holds him in his hands.

He kneels low to the ground to make sure there are no more tremors.

Peerimus nods a greeting again to Lady Celine and then with a hand on Yorrick, walks the remaining distance to the group. Thoughts he keeps to himself as he is not sure where Celine stands nor Loribus for that matter. From what he saw there no more evil involved than a when a cat pounces on a mouse, but the citizens do deserve to know what is happening.

"Celine, Loribus I have already discovered..." He is cut off suddenly by a cry of surprise from Yorick and the ground lurching yet still into a steeper angle, sending the druid sailing through the air.

Niobe  d20+12=24
Thursday June 2nd, 2005 1:50:04 PM

Niobe's current "opinion" of Lady Celine hasn't changed much as of yet.
Niobe has no trouble keeping her balance when the ground rocks and shifts.
The Floating City means precisely nothing to the rogue; and she is certainly getting a budding feeling that they no longer are on familiar ground. Niobe makes a mental note to ask at least Firn'gaer about this floating city since he seems to know a fair bit about it.
Niobe finally resheathes her rapier.

(Reflex save 24)

Greeting at House Stizein (DM/Al)  d20+11=12 d20+18=26 d20+11=29 d20+4=17 d6=5 d6=4
Thursday June 2nd, 2005 10:11:13 PM

Savin rolls easily with the shaking of the earth, years of training preserving balance. (Reflex 29) Ilsidur, by contrast slams into the wall before rebounding and falling to the floor of the Underramp. (Reflex 17. Take 4hp Fall damage.)

Lady Celine too pitches to the ground. The first by her side is Lord Lorbius. Her eyes seek his as he lifts her from the ground.

"My Lord," she says before quickly looking away.

"Lady Celine," he bows and then steps away.

"We must hurry." Celine without heed for her injuries, heads down the ramp. "I cannot imagine that the city could be tipped to the side under the weight of as few vines as are here now Savin, Follower of Domi. And yet something is most decidedly amiss."

The now fairly sizable group hurries down the ramp. Firn'gaer cradles Rufus, crushed and bruised in the throes of the tremor. Fortunate for the both of them that they had received the power of Ilsidur's healing touch before the city had begun to shake.

"When we reach my Father's house we may receive the answer to all of our questions," she calls to those behind her. "As well as any and all refreshments that you may ... "

Lady Celine's voice trails off as they emerge from the Underramp and into a scene of panic and confusion. Shouts of fear and voices full of anxiety call through the night air. People rush madly across the tilted streets, between well appointed manors and villas silhouetted against the night sky. Yes, the sky. As many feet as the group had descended down the Underramp, here still was the night sky. (Spellcraft DC35 to recognize this as a magical projection painted upon the expansive ceiling of the level that projects an image of the sky above. Firn'gaer may identify it with a Knowledge Local of DC20.)

In the distance an orange glow paints a nimbus over the rooftops. Fire. A torch or lantern knocked from its place by the shaking earth. Some people run in that direction. Others run away.

Lady Celine, Lord Lorbius, the contingent of guards, they all take in the scene with grim faces.

"Come. This way," Celine beckons and then moves off to the west. Few pay the group heed as they move through the night streets of the panicked Gold Level. All have concerns enough of their own.

" ... Overlord do something ... "

" ... calling up every mage ... "

" ... the Crying Wood, didn't I tell you that someday ... "

Snippets of conversation come and pass, until finally Celine comes to the gates of a walled compound. The guards hurry to open the large wooden gate, and Celine, Lorbius, and the Children of Chaos walk on through. Across a brick tiled courtyard and onto a portico flanked by columns, and the group enters the mansion of House Stizein through double doors. The splendor and richness of House Stizein passes quickly until the group enters a large study, brightly lit by globes that hang from the ceiling. Behind a desk stands a large elderly man, his head still graced by a full mane of graying hair streaked with the same red-orange that marks Celine. He leans, palms against the tabletop as he listens to whispered reports from various runners. As he lifts his face, piercing green eyes over a broad noble nose take in the group.

*BANG!*

His hand slams down upon the desktop with an explosion that causes the guards to drop into a crouch.

"Lorbius! You dare to enter my home!"

"Father!"

"I do, Sir. I dare, Lord Malneth! I dare because these have become Times in which Calamity reigns. These are times to place aside grievances and unite in common cause against the woes that Fate marshals against us. An uncertain wind blows destruction and madness through the streets, and I would not leave Celine to such!"

Silence rules the room as both men, the young and the old test their wills against each other. Finally the older lifts a hand and indicates the odd group of heroes, humans, half-elves, dog and bear.

"They call themselves The Children of Chaos, Father. They have said that they hail from a land called Ice Vein. Though, perhaps more recently of New Elenna. There were Cats on Open Level. They came upon me just as I fell to them. They say they are upon a quest, and that they teleported here. Not, however, I believe, through the Plateau City Gate."

Lord Malneth pays no further heed of Lorbius.

"Your timing is ill conceived, Children of Chaos," he says, with the deep rasp to his voice that speaks of age. "The Crying Woods has been taken by madness. There is an elven Druid locked in the cells of Perimon's private guard. His name is Prionel, and he claims that his wife holds the soul of the woods, and has for years been the conscience of it's vengeful nature."

"He has further claimed to no longer feel her. That a dark force has taken her place. Perimon laughs at him. I am not certain that he is laughing now."

"At any other time Children of Chaos, I would have leant you aid in your quest, if for no other reason than curiosity. I have heard legends of Ice Vein to the far south of a far southern land. But now ... "

Lord Malneth of House Stizein shakes his grizzled head. His eye sharp an wise, raise and seek the face of Lorbius.

"Orcworts," he says, "Orcworts have been seen in the Crying Woods."

Peerimus 69/73 and Yorrick
Friday June 3rd, 2005 9:07:32 AM

Peerimus takes a step forward up the sloping floor. "I can shed some light on the city's current state. Great vines reach from tower-like plants at the edge of the Crying Woods and are pulling this city to them. The cats encountered on your Open Level may merely be fleeing the flooding lower levels. For as the city shifts it also sinks. I would know why this druid Prionel is being held and would speak to him soon.

I wonder if any has considered that he truly has a connection through his wife to the Crying Woods and now she moves to free him? They may have brought there own doom

Firn'gaer  d20+20=28 d20+11=23
Friday June 3rd, 2005 2:15:54 PM

Leaving the Underramp, Firn'gaer is astounded by the wondrous sights he sees even in the midst of the chaos. Looking up to see the stars, he remembers a tale of magic as this used to let the lower levels of the city know the sky above them. It is a beautiful sight to behold. [Spellcraft DC28, Local Knowledge DC23]

Arriving at House Stizein, Firn'gaer is relieved at the possibility of a soft bed, a bath and a warm meal; though he sleeps less and rarely eats thanks to the magic he possesses [Sustenance Ring].

There is obviously a great deal of history between the two houses and it seems to surround Lady Celine. Best to keep clear of that. He thinks after the exchange of heated words from the two noblemen.

"Then, my lord, perhaps it is we that could assist you. Having spent the better part of my 30-years in New Elenna I've grown up on the wondrous tales of your city. Now that I'm here I would hate to see it lost." The wizard says.

A Night's Rest (DM/Al)
Saturday June 4th, 2005 10:53:32 AM

The three nobles, the guards, various runners and other functionaries, they all listen in a silence shot through with dread as Peerimus describes the vines that pull at the city. It is clear from the blankness on selected faces that some lack the experience of imagination to envision the size of the vines necessary to tip the city to the angle at which it now rests. It is also clear from the hard expressions of worry on the faces of others, that some wonder just how far the city can be pulled over.

"Perimon and his damnedable dreams of expansion." The Lord of Stizein spits the words as if a curse. "The settlement that bore his name was pushed out by the Woods. Whole settlement swallowed up and grown over. He's been just waiting to take someone to task for it. And when this Prionel arrived he had the elf seized before he could leave again."

"I've put things in motion to secretly petition the Overlord to intervene in the matter. But the pace is necessarily slow for the caution we must use. Perimon has strong political allies, and it would not do for him to know that it was House Stizein that had initiated such things."

Malneth closes his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose in a gesture of fatigue. Then he draws himself up, pulling from somewhere within, reserves of energy.

"In these times of crisis, all willing hands are welcome," he says addressing the tall thin wizard. "I have heard that they gather mages for battle. The assault upon the Orcworts massing in the Wood will begin come dawn. Until such forces are marshaled, it may be best to do no more than rest and ready yourselves for the battle yet to come."

"There is a guest house on the grounds. Celine will show you the way." Lord Malneth's piercing green eyes fix on Lorbius, but he says nothing to the Ursidaen. "In the meantime, I will investigate the Cats. Open Level is the province of the Overlord, and access is not easily obtained. It is also six levels up. It is unlikely that the Cats would flee there. Especially as we have had no other reports of Cats or Rats on the levels in between."

"No," a distant look comes into Lord Malneth's eyes, "I suspect other forces at work ... " He breaks from his reverie. "I will see you in the morning, Children of Chaos. Let tomorrow show us a kinder face."

Lady Celine dips in a light curtsy. Her eyes dart for a quick moment to Lorbius. "I will return, Father, once our guests are made comfortable."

Lord Malneth does no more than nod and wave them away.

The group retraces their path through the mansion. The guards fall away, leaving only the one named Marco to follow Lady Celine. Lord Lorbius accompanies the group as well. Returning to the courtyard, Celine leads the group the west side of the mansion. There stands a fair sized one story house. Entering through the front door, Lady Celine speaks a command word and lights glow from globes mounted upon the ceiling.

"The Guest Residence is for your exclusive use this evening. I apologize, but there are no more than five bedrooms. The pantry is fully stocked. Should you require anything else, there is a bell in every room." She indicates a velvet rope that hangs tastefully near one of the inner doors. "A single tug will summon a servant."

"Please, Marco, could you wait outside?" the Lady requests. "Lorbius," she whispers softly after the guard has backed from the room, "will you remain with them? I ... My heart would be comforted in the knowledge that you are at least this near."

Lorbius looks down upon Celine from his great height. His brown eyes are warm, liquid and vulnerable. He nods.

"Then, until the morning," Lady Celine says to all, and with a curtsy returns to the main house.

[[OoC: Rest at last!!! Feel free to roleplay as much as you'd like this weekend. Any food and/or drink that you can think of will be available. You many ask Lorbius any questions that you wish. I will try and pop in to answer them if necessary.

Next official post will be Tomorrow Morning.]]

Savin  d20+11=25
Saturday June 4th, 2005 9:36:41 PM

Savin will look to this Lord Lorbius, bow and hold out his hand, "Thank you for returning our friends good Sir. My name is Savin." Savin will look intently at the tall man and say, "You seem to be a man of importance here. I don't wish to be rude and don't know the local customs, so please excuse any social blunders on my part when I ask...What is going on here? It seems you and the other Lord are rivals in some way.

I am relieved you have shown the wisdom to put aside your feuding until this common enemy is defeated." Savin pauses for a minute and then continues, "What is an Orcwort? I have never heard of them? Are they dangerous?"

Savin is exploring the guest house as he make inquiries of the tall Lord. He discovers the kitchen and the supplies and his mouth drops open in astonishment and then turns into a grin. "Finally real supplies. Give me an 2 hours and I will prepare you a feast!" He grabs Niobe's hand and pulls her into the kitchen. "Come on beautiful! I will need some help. Start peeling those potatoes while I tenderize this meat."

Savin is good to his word if Niobe helps or not and provides a wonderful meal. (cooking 25)

Sly and Luke
Sunday June 5th, 2005 7:33:31 AM

Sly walks up to Both Savin and Lord Lorbius, he will wait a minute or so before he will stop Savin from putting his foo in his mouth.

"Ahh! Good Evening, Lord Lorbius. I'm one of the Children of Chaos. (Sly will direct the next sentance to Savin) Friend Savin, It is easy to know as to What is the problem between Lord Stizein and Lord Lorbius, it is Lady Celine.
Remember at the RACES? and the Princess that was intrested in you? Her guards hurt you a little... Well it's the same story here, my friend. I say I'm getting hungry and I don't think you'll like my trail stew!" Sly smiles at Savin.

Turning his attention to Lord Lorbius again, "Savin is a Good Friend, a Master at the Fighting Arts and a great Cook. Wait and see.
I'm just a half elf named Sly Foxx, and this Dog here is Luke,(Sly whispers to the Lord) Don't be startle but he speaks!.
I'm intrested in this Elvin Prisoner, I heard mention? I would like to know as to why is someone in this Elf?? Can you tell me more about him?" Sly ask as he goes for his magic spells book.

Luke watches Savin take Niobe into the kitchen, "Savin! a Bone?"

Lorbius of Ursidae (DM/Al)
Sunday June 5th, 2005 10:25:51 AM

Lord Lorbius inclines his head, first to Savin, then to Sly, Luke, and then to Niobe as the only woman present.

chuckles, and the sound resonates deep within his chest. He removes first a flail then a curved kukri from his belt, and places them side by side upon a table in the common room.

"Sly Foxx is correct, Friend Savin. The Lady Celine is where the interests of Lord Malneth and I meet. But, there is more. Lady Celine, you see, is my betrothed. The wedding had been arranged. The date, even, set. As part of the festivities we opened the vaults of House Ursidae to those of House Stizein conducting tours to display our most prized ancestral treasures."

Lorbius ducks beneath the lintel of the kitchen door and slides in with a grace unusual in a man his size.

"It was but a few days later that we discovered one of them was gone. The Bane of Tosden, an amulet said to confer great prowess upon the wearer. My cousin Bael was outraged. He formed a party and forced his way into this very compound, leveling accusations at Lord Tarleth Stizein, Lady Celine's brother. They marched their way Lord Malneth's private office, the very room in which we stood tonight. Bael and Lord Tarleth had been great friends up until that point. He claimed that Lord Tarleth had showed very particular and undo interest in the Bane of Tosden."

Lord Lorbius folds his arms across his broad chest and gazes out a window through the darkness as if to the mansion beyond.

"I arrived too late to stop Bael in his rash accusations. We were expelled at spear point. Relationships between House Ursidae and House Stizein were broken."

"From that time, I had not seen the Lady Celine. Until tonight. So does chaos enter unbidden to one's life at a but a moment."

"Orcworts," the Lord breaks from his reverie and turns to address the remaining questions. "I have never seen one myself. They are said to be like enormous trees with entangling roots. They swallow creatures of lesser size whole and in entirety. I have also heard that they create smaller beings that are a part of themselves. These appear in the form of orcs, thus the name. Though these, they are not as ordinary orcs and work together as with one mind."

"Fearsome creatures, and with all of my years roaming the Crying Woods, I have yet to encounter one. To my relief I might add."

"As to the elven druid held prisoner by Lord Perimon," Lorbius shakes his massive head, "I knew nothing of this until Lord Malneth spoke of it this evening. Lord Malneth has many avenues of information not available to any save the Overlord herself."

"Though, I can only speculate that as Lord Malneth said that the elven druid was seized as he was attempting to leave, and that he has intimate connections to the Crying Woods, that he is one of several groups that have managed to establish a residence of sorts within the boundaries of the Woods."

"I dread to imagine what might have become of his home with the incursion of the orcworts."

Lord Lorbius lifts his dark eyebrows as Luke calls to Savin for a bone. Even warned, the sight of Luke speaking is a wonder.

A smile lights the Lord's face. "Talking plants. Talking dogs. You have many wondrous companions," he says to this odd group of adventurers. "Were I not so often in the Crying Woods, I would want one for myself. But when venturing within the boundaries of The Woods it is best to either enter in force, or to enter alone."

Firn'gaer
Sunday June 5th, 2005 1:24:43 PM

"Do we know of any vunerabilities of these orcworts?" He says directing his question to anyone who might have an answer.

The wizard spends the remainder of the enjoying himself with some drink and food. All the while keeping himself in check because tomorrow he must be sharp. He will engage in conversation with any who want to talk.

He will make a relatively early evening.

Niobe
Sunday June 5th, 2005 4:03:49 PM

Niobe will not be commenting on anything said. This is all rather overwhelming and confusing for her.
First of all she knows nothing about anything concerning New Elenna; indeed she doesn't rightly see why they should be meddling in any affairs here as there are surely more than enough matters to meddle in back home!
Niobe welcomes a respite from all the banter.

Sly and Luke
Monday June 6th, 2005 8:14:47 AM

"Alright, Luke! Go to the kitchen and Savin will give you a bone. And don't froget to say please!" Sly tell Luke.

Luke runs after Savin, yell back at Sly, "Thank-you! Please!"

Sly tell Lord Loebuis, "As you see, Luke talks But act more like a barbarian. All of the Childern and Luke were fighting a blite in the Elven Forest. Though because of a Vampire Triad we had to kill. As we approch the tree, She put up a invisable wall and pick us off one by one.
This is wjere we all saw the Leagion of the White Stag was true. He was beautiful, you could not but admire him. He sent a little ball of light into Luke. The dog found a way around the wall and even after we killed her and her tree, the light that went into Luke never left him. But IT made him into an Altered Beast. He grows like a child, also has the heart of a Hero.
Ahh! There you are Friend Fien-gare, this is Lord Loebuis..."

"If you'll excuse me, My Lord." Sly tell his new friend, "I have to study my spells for tomorow. We will speak again of this prisoner Elf" Sly bows to the nobel one, takes a few pillow and throw them in a corner of the room. Sly will lay down on the pillows, open his Spells book and will study.

Firn'gaer
Monday June 6th, 2005 8:44:58 AM

"Hello Sly, and good evening my lord." Firn'gaer says greeting Sly and the lord of House Ursidae.

"You know I've always wonder how Luke became Luke. I've heard that druids had the power to awaken nature. I always assumed that's what happened." He says. "Well however it happened, I consider myself a better man for meeting you...you both."

Peerimus and Yorrick
Monday June 6th, 2005 10:25:04 AM

Peerimus will spend the night tending to Yorrick and ask Ilsidur if he can do anything about the poison. Peerimus stays very close to his companion upon learning of some more of what happened in Open Level and will definately be sure to get Yorrick his fill of food and drink. Peerimus will thank and praise Savin for a brilliant meal, being never one to miss a ggod one himself, one may say Peerimus over does it slightly.

Peerimus will also be sure to let everyone know he believes it is these Orcwort trees that are pulling the city, well over a dozen. If we are to enter the wood, "I will plan appropriately. But we should decide our course of action before morning prayers, study or devotions."

Savin
Monday June 6th, 2005 10:49:44 AM

Savin walks over to the fat bellied groaning Peerimus and drops a dish towel on his shoulders. "I am glad you enjoyed the meal but since I cooked, I think you should clean this mess up!"

He sits down and grabs a glass of apple juice and swirls it in a cup. He had listened to Lord Lorbius's explaination about strained relations between the two great houses and asks, "What did this magic item do? The one that was stolen? Could it be the author of all these problems we are experiencing? Also what were those cat creatures who were attacking your betrothed? Are they common around here?"

Peerimus (illegal 2nd Post)
Monday June 6th, 2005 3:40:28 PM

"You can be cruel man sometimes Savin." he answers with a slight grin. Peerimus musters his will, and hauls himself to himself to his feet and goes about the chore.

Sly (Illegal 2nd Post)
Monday June 6th, 2005 4:39:51 PM

Sly goes over to Savin, "Friend Savin! I'll help out in the kitchen, it I can have a second helping??" Sly give him a most radiant smile(with a the deplomacy he can muster.)

Morning Has Broken (DM/Al)  d20+1=16
Monday June 6th, 2005 9:21:18 PM

The Children of Chaos enjoy their first taste of civilization for many days. Each meets the change in their own way, with delight, with excess, with contemplation, perhaps even a longing for normality.

Lorbius samples Savin's cooking, then seats himself on the floor next to Luke and eats with gusto.

"Orcworts are a thing of near legend, my friend," he says in reply to the tall thin man's general inquiry. My knowledge of such things is fairly keen, and yet all I know is the stuff of rumor."

He is quiet when Savin asks about the Bane of Tosden.

"Indeed. At first it was our thought that the Bane may have been, in part, responsible for the present calamities. And yet ... " He shakes his head. "I cannot see how." (Sense Motive DC16 to detect Highlight to display spoiler: {}that the Lord is not saying everything he knows. He is not lying or deliberately obfuscating the truth. But it does appears something 'personal.'Highlight to display spoiler: {})

"The Cats. They are werecats. They run with a gang and rarely leave the Trash Level."

"Trash Level is the lowest Level of Floating City," he explains. "I do not know why they would risk coming all the way up to Open Level. And in Were form as well. It is dangerous."

His brow furrows and he says no more, finishing the rest of his meal in silence.

The group beds down for the evening. The tilt of the floor is not so severe as to make sleeping difficult. The beds are comfortable, and soon all are off to sleep.

From the mist of dream she comes. Her face is old, wrinkled and wizened. But in her eye is the glint of steel. Unlike Lady Watcher, this crone stands tall. At her side, in place of her right hand is a thing of metal. The fingers flex and curl as though of their own volition.

"I am Lady Justice," the dream crone says. "From far away we reach ... " The dream begins to fade. The Lady Justice raises her hand of steel and the metal fingers tighten into a fist. Her image strengthens. "Seribond is here, Champions. The Bane is here. Seek it and return. Seek the Bane."

Then the dream fades, to be replaced by the splintering of the Wold. Bodies, heavy furniture, implements, blunt and sharp fly about each and every room as though the entire Guest House were lifted by a small child and shaken to reveal what might be within. (Everyone take 4d6 damage. On a successful Reflex Save vs. DC20 take half.)

As the group gathers itself and assembles in the common room, Lord Malneth and Lady Celine rush through the front door at the head of a troop of guards. All are dressed in the same clothes that they had worn last night.

"The vines have resumed their work. Daylight has brought a wave of plant life across the lake from the Crying Woods. We are under attack."

Lord Lorbius, fully dressed as well, takes up his flail and kukri. "Then I go," he says. "I will scout their progress and attempt to delay them. With luck, they may not yet have breached Fence Level."

"We will send reinforcements to your aid," replies Lord Malneth.

"Lorbius," he adds, "before you go, know that it was indeed Tarleth who has taken the Bane of Tosden. I discovered it just last night. It has changed him. He now leads the Cat and Mouse in a stronghold on the Trash Level."

"I am sorry, it was ... "

"Lord Malneth, it was rash of House Ursidae to cast accusations in a public spectacle," replies Lord Lorbius. "Wrong should not beget wrong." He turns to Lady Celine.

"I go now, fairest Celine. Wait upon me for I shall return."

In the company of her father and the guards of House Stizein, Celine says nothing in reply. His promise of return is enough.

"Children of Chaos," Lord Lorbius calls to the group, "if you wish to aide Floating City, be ready upon my return. I shall be back anon." And the large man ducks through the door and is gone.

[OoC: Everyone who took CON damage is healed one CON point. Also take normal healing from a night's rest as well.

Tuesday June 7th, 2005 8:33:19 AM

Firn'gaer sleeps better than he's slept in longer than he can remember. Erupting into his dreams, ...Lady Justice...Bane is here...return... A sinking feeling replaces the calm serenity of his sleep as the dream fades. Then as the guest house is tossed about, Firn'gaer managers to hang onto his bed and avoid most of the falling debris.

As the shaking subsides, Firn'gaer sits on the bed his feet hanging over to the floor below. His hands place in his forehead and his elbows on his knees. "Seek the Bane and return..." He says to himself.

Finding his way out of the safety of the hole he slept in, the rat familiar climbs onto the bed and sits on the wizard's right thigh.

You alright?
"Yes and no"
Huh
"I think we're going back after we help."
Oh, I hate the cold...
"Me too..."

Looking up from his harse awakening, the wizard calls out. "Is everyone alright?"

"My lady, do you know of someone or something called Seribond It appears that our appearance here was not by chance." He says looking at his companions.

Once he learns the other are safe, he will immediate go to his books and begin preparing.

Savin  d20+11=26 4d6(3+6+5+1)=15
Tuesday June 7th, 2005 10:05:48 AM

Savin is awoken with a start as he is tumbled out of bed. He tucks into a ball and rolls around trying to keep himself from harm. (OOC rolled reflex save, not sure if evasion keeps me from taking damage?)

Savin thinks back upon the dream he was having and says to everyone, "Did we all have the same dream? Looks like we need to find this item and return it to its proper owners?"

Savin pauses and puts his hand on his chin, "Looks like we are going to be fighting Werecats and Wererats. Since we are in the big city now, I suggest I go to the catacombs and get our treasure haul identified. We might need some new magic to help fight them and stave off chaos?."

Savin gathers up all the loot, placing what he can in his haversack, and then asking, "Lady Celine, may I get a guide to the catacombs. Preferrably one with a strong back?" If Lady Seline agrees, then he will head out.

In this situation it makes sense. So lets say yes. You are able to Evade damage.

Same would hold true for Niobe if she makes her Reflex save. No damage. -Al

Firn'gaer (illegal post)
Tuesday June 7th, 2005 10:31:25 AM

"If we had more time, I could determine the potions. I have components for 5 Identify spells, but that would take better part of a day to do. It looks like we don't have that right now."

As far as unread aura, once we have time Firn'gaer should have little trouble determining the auras for the items. His Spellcraft is +20 so he determines potions on a 5 or higher. Scrolls are a read magic spell away.

I think we should identify them.

The room start to shake thosing every thing and every one around. Sly grabs Luke, trying to roll up into a ball (to cut down on damages), it work some what.

Sly tells Fien-gare, "Next time I study my magic book, remind me to study the spell Levatate, before I go to sleep."

Testing his fotting on the greatly sloped floor, Peerimus and Yorrick attempt to maintain thier balance. To the magic items, we should most definately have them all identified. We do not have the luxury of waiting several days. The potions will take about 15 minutes for Firn'gaer and as he said the scrolls are a read magic away."

"Be careful Savin and hurry." Turning to the lord of House Stizein, "Is there anything we can do in while we wait for our friend Savin and Lord Loribus's return? Perhaps I should give another aireal recon?"

Niobe  d20+12=30
Tuesday June 7th, 2005 3:04:56 PM

(Reflex save 30, DC? I presume Niobe made her save.)

Niobe seems to have no trouble getting some sleep despite the crazy tilt of the city. If she some how should fall out of bed; when getting out of bed again or when the house threatens to fall down around her ears, she will have no trouble at all keeping her balance; as her reflexes seem to be as good as ever! (No damage taken.)

The dream of Lady Justice does not even wake her.

After getting cleaned up and ready for the day; and before their hosts barge in, Niobe will check her scribbled note of the riddle the Crone mentioned to see if Seribond or Bane is one of the items.

[The Vision is to Find Him
Chaos Bane to Bind Him
The Circle Knows the Way, and
The Chime will call him to his Fate
Then when at last, you have him Slain
The Shroud will Offer Up his Soul]

Niobe ponders to herself at first, 'I wonder if that Seribond thing is the same item as the "Chaos Bane" mentioned in the riddle?'.

(Still before the hosts barge in, and only if anyone is awake as well)
Niobe asks, "do you think Seribond is the same thing as the "Chaos Bane" mentioned in the Crone's riddle?"

Niobe puts her notebook away as soon as Lady Celine and Lord Lorbius enter.

((If I got the details wrong I am sorry, but there is just too much to read that I get all the "threads" tangled up!))

[You're doing just fine, Niobe. ^_^ Just fine. -Al]

Are You Ready to Go? (DM/Al)
Tuesday June 7th, 2005 8:33:39 PM

The morning is spent in preparation. Celine shows Savin takes to the local outlet of the Catacombs. The shop, from the outside appears deserted. The door, however, is open. The clerk takes the items. Wizards at this time are in short supply. It may take a day or more for the identification, particularly with this many items.

Other Children of Chaos engage in study, prayer, or meditation. On the minds of all, however, are thoughts of the dream visitation. Lady Justice had come to all and spoken of The Bane. Indeed, if any in the group could spare the time to glance a the tattoo on the backs of their hands, they would see it now as a hand with twisted fingers.

Lady Celine shakes her head. "I have not heard of Seribond," she replies. She looks out the door into her city as it lists to the side. Out there, somewhere is Lord Lorbius, and she does not pursue the odd question.

Neither word means a thing to Firn'gaer, despite his copious store of knowledge. And yet, he cannot help but speculate upon a connection. Peerimus does as well. Niobe cannot help but speculate that this may be the same Chaos Bane mentioned by Lady Watcher.

And why indeed should they not be one and the same? The Children of Chaos themselves have been called by different names. Time and distance bend the names of all things. The only truth can be in the finding.

Lorbius appears in the doorway, one hand against the jab that leans at an angle of near fifteen degrees. He has been gone for little more than an hour. A very short time. He must not have gotten very far.

"They have come already as far as Merchant Level," he says, a grim look upon his face. "The guard is prepared to hold the Central Stairs. If we wish to go lower, we must fight our way through."

"I go," he says, "perhaps as low as Trash Level." His reasons are unstated, but, given the news this morning of Celine's Brother Tarleth and the Amulet stolen from House Ursidae, his reasons are not difficult to deduce.

"It would be an honor," he says, "were you to accompany me."

Celine enters through the front door. Before her, she fastens the clasp of a traveling cloak.

"I go as well," she declares on the tail end of the Lord's words. "You will need the powers that I can provide."

"Celine," the large man turns, "I will not have you risk such danger."

"I am near as able as you in the Crying Wood, Lorbius," she counters.

"This is different. It is not a run in the moonlight. The Crying Woods has taken up arms. It has become much much stronger. I will not have you come."

Celine stands firm, crossing her arms across her breasts.

"Please," Lord Lorbius pleads, "as your betrothed, as your love, I ask you not to go. I beg of you. And, if I must," he sighs, "if must be, then I will inform your father of your intent. He will, I believe, see it my way in this thing."

Lady Celine's narrows her eyes. Without a word, she turns and leaves.

Lord Lorbius turns back to the group. "I am sorry. Are you ready to go? Even now, citizens die."

Savin
Tuesday June 7th, 2005 9:07:23 PM

Savin sighs as he leaves the magic at the Catacombs. He was hoping for quicker service and to possibibly use the magic in the up coming battle.

When he gets back he will step forward and say, "I will be glad to join you Lord Lorbius. I must ask a favor of you though. We will be fighting against the creatures infected with the disease of lycanthropcy. My master told me of them and said that you need silver weapons to effect them. I have the ability to center my Ki but I am not sure if this will be enough. Will my hands be able to strike them or do I need silver weapons. If I do, would it be possible to borrow something?"

Ilsidur
Tuesday June 7th, 2005 11:21:05 PM

Ilsidur is once again overcome by all the information overload. Trying to put the pieces together, he nods as Niobe seems to make some sense of the information provided. He spends his quiet time in meditation, petitioning the Woldian powers for his spells for the day. [Al, spell list to come tomorrow. I would like to give this new spell merging power a little thought.]

"Lorbius, are you saying that this Traleth is holding the amulet in the lowest level of this city, and is using it to somehow control these Cats and Rats? What do you think that his ultimate goal might be? Or do we need to take him to find out?"

The dwarf readies his gear for the trip to the lower levels. He asks, "Does anyone need any restoration spells before we head below? I have memorized three such spells."

Sly (AC 20 82/82hp)and Luke (Ac21 68/68hp)
Wednesday June 8th, 2005 7:04:17 AM

Sly listens to all of his friends, as he puts Lukes leather armor, when he notices his tattoo has change again. "Friends! Our tattoo has changed to a hand with twisted fingers?? It was not there yesterday, but since we did have a dream of Lady Justice the tattoo reformed it's self. I wonder?"
Sly look into Lukes ears and sure enough Luke has the same little tattoo. "Well look at what I found, A tattoo just like ours!"

Luke pull his chest out, "ME! Chaos Fighter!" he tell all with Pride.

Sly smiles at Luke, but turnd to Lord Loebuis, "May I be so bold as to give you a though? I think you have made a big mistake by telling Lady Celine that she cannot come along! I saw the look in her eyes, and I'd rather have her where we can see and protect her, than have her secretly follow us and get in Big Trouble. I know that she's your betrothed, BUT if you were in her shoes, would you do any different?"

Sly ask Savin, "My Moke Friend! Would you do me a faver, next time your in the catacombs pick me up a Silver Dagger? You might want to think about Silver Knuckles or Silver Long False Finger Nails."

Luke trots areond the room, "Let's Go!"

Approaching the Central Stairs (DM/Al)
Wednesday June 8th, 2005 10:57:25 PM

"I have no weapons of silver," the lord of Floating City replies in a tone of distraction. He stares out the door through which Celine had just left.

"No," he says to those with other opinions regarding Celine's course of action, "she will remain here. Her father would not allow her to leave. And rightfully so."

"Let us go." Lorbius ducks through the doorway, brooking no further discussion on the topic.

"I do not know, Friend Dwarf," the Lord replies exiting the grounds of House Stizein through the angled gate of the compound. The House guard watches in silence as the group leaves. "Celine's brother is a wild lad. But it is not in him to be evil. Let alone a thief. I know not why he would choose to fall in with the Cat and Mouse gang. I am not entirely certain that he has an ultimate goal." Lorbius' eyes slide to the side and take in Ilsidur. Still, he says nothing about the dwarven cleric's mention of the 'talking of Lord Tarleth.'

Gold Level shines under the morning light. There is blue sky above, sprinkled with white clouds so real one would believe one's self to be outside. The buildings of the level cut a broken horizon across the field of vision. Rubble litters the streets. Gaps in the skyline mark the place of fallen buildings. Everything lists at an angle. Walking is not difficult. And yet, without concentration, the tilt of the streets causes a drift to the downward side.

Yorrick follows quiet, almost sullen, behind Peerimus. He ignores Luke walking at his side. The large brown bear seems, in some ways, to be bigger. Though surely that cannot be possible.

The group works their way toward an enormous central structure that rises up into the sky. Turning a corner, they enter an expansive plaza. At one border of the plaza is the wall of the central column, in its side is a large opening much like that of the Underramp one level up. The Central Stairs, embedded in the center column that supports the city. Out of the mouth of the Central Stairs, vines crawl across the vertical surfaces of the column branching out and away. Within the mass of vines, red blooms flower. Roses, red as blood. Armed guards in the livery of many different Houses ring the entrance. Rubble has been piled in a semi-circle around the Stairs to provide a barrier against anyone or anything that would attempt to invade from below.

The armed guards part as Lorbius leads the Children of Chaos toward the Stairs. Climbing the barrier of rubble, they descend to the other side. The carpet of rose vines crunch under their feet as they march toward the towering mouth of the Central Stairs. The ramp of the Stairs is empty and quiet.

Merchant Level has been invaded. What might wait below is only a guess. But if they wish to be of aide to the city, this is the way they must go.

Niobe (73/73HP, 19 AC)
Thursday June 9th, 2005 12:07:56 AM

Niobe disagrees with Lord Lorbius' sentiment about leaving Lady Celine behind. He obviously needs several lessons in equality. Niobe keeps her distance from Lorbius, in case he decides to try and pull that lame 'stay at home where you belong and it is safe' spiel with her.

"Do we have a battle strategies we want to work out on our way?"

Firn'gaer  d20+8=16 d20+8=26
Thursday June 9th, 2005 9:10:08 AM

Firn'gaer mentions to Ilsidur that Rufus could use on of those Restoration spells.

Moving through the city down towards the bottom and inevitable fighting, Firn'gaer hears Niobe's call for a semblance of a plan. That seems to be something that they've not been able to grasp in the short time he's been with them. Each handles what they sees as the greatest threat or danger, which has work thus far for the Children of Chaos, though a plan would be prudent.

"A plan? A plan for battle. I've planned my spells to hinder opponents. I do have some damage spells, but I worry about collateral damage to the city and its citizens. We do need to remain closer together. With the golems we spread ourselves so far apart we nearly lost Tokun, Luke and Sly (I think it was Sly if not, sorry)." He says as they walk.

Assuming Yorrick gets a Restoration Spell.

Peerimus nods at Niobe and Firn'gaers assements, Indeed the group does not approach combat in a group like way frankly but to be honest I do not possess the discipline or mind to craft one

Breaking from thought to give Yorrick another smile and pat Peerimus states his position as he has come to understand it. "Yorrick and I shall anchor the center of any conflict." Peerimus finishes by casting Greater Magic Fang on himself and Yorrick.

As the group enters the vine strewn streets, the druid quickly begins looking for hidden dangers in the foliage, bringing Yorrick in close. [Spot 18 Know Nature 32 Listen 24 handle animal 34 Defend]

SlY look around, telling to group "A Plan, I don't think we had a plan since we killed that Red Dragon. We look to where we are most needed, Protect the magic users and fight!
Speaking of fighting I think that I will pull to the back. I have a hunch??"

Niobe laughs.

"Go ahead Sly. You should be where you'll be the most effective. *jokingly* I'll just be skulking around in the shadows somewhere of to the side!"

Savin
Thursday June 9th, 2005 9:27:16 PM

Savin looks at Sly and smiles. "OK big fighter types to the front!" He looks around and sighs, "I miss Shiraz and Sir Thomas. Something is wrong when your druid is your big fighter type. No offense Peerimus. You are wonderful in a scrap but you don't wear enough steel."

OOC Al if you want delete this next paragraphs, go ahead, but the business in the catacombs is done. Don't want to waste any advantages. Think we are going to need them.

Savin sees the entrance to the Catacombs on the journey and holds up one finger. "Hang on a minute" he says and darts ahead into the storefront. He comes back in a minute lugging their new belongings.

Here take these for now and we can divide them up more fairly later.

He hands Firn'gaer a headband and a wand murmuring "Headband of intellect and wand of monster summoning iv"

He hands Niobe a pair of boots and says, "Boots of Teleportation.

He hands Ilsidur a gem and says "Gem of Seeing"

He hands Sly two Rods and says lesser extend and lesser maximise metamagic.

He looks at Peerimus and says, "I really don't know what to give you. When you go into bear form you lose it all. Take these." handing him a pearl and a rod. He says, "Rod of cancellation and a pearl of power for 3rd level spells.

He wraps a cloak around his own shoulders and suddenly shifts to one side. "Cloak of Displacement"

He smiles at everyone and says, "I hated the thought of us going into combat and not using every advantage we have. There is alot more stuff (he pats his haversack) but we are at least using the major stuff.

[Sorry, I haven't authorize the items to be brought back from the Catacombs yet. I know you'd like to get to using them. But lets hold off for now, huh? -Al]

Green Hell - Round 01 (DM/Al)  d20+14=27
Thursday June 9th, 2005 11:15:14 PM

[OoC: Ilsidur originally offered the Restoration spells, so those who requested them, consider them done.]

Niobe asks about a battle strategy, but receives little in the way of concrete plans. Perhaps enough for the group to fall into a rough marching order with Lorbius leading the way into the mouth of the Central Stairs.

Less a set of steps than ramp, the Central Stairs is a broad tunnel that descends down through the central support pillar of the city. At the moment it is choked with rose vines. Red blooms cover the ceiling and walls. They carpet the floors. As the group descends into the tunnel, thorns catch at their clothing. The air is heavy with the fresh scent of roses. And as they walk, the group leaves a wake of scattered petals behind them. With a little imagination, it could be wading through blood.

The way turns and turns and turns again, as the ramp winds downward to the next level. The Central Stairs are lit from above by magic light, now dim and shadowy, covered, overgrown with rose vines.

The way turns back upon itself one last time, and the light of Merchant Level reveals itself through the large rectangle of the exit. The rose vines grow in from outside. Just beyond the exit green hills roll into the distance. Lorbius slows. His eyes narrow with suspicion. Human bodies, twisted and broken resolve for Firn'gaer and Peerimus from out of the tangle of rose vines. Armored guards, some citizens. Men, women, and children as well.

Lorbius stops and raises his hand for the company to halt as well. His gaze is directed outward, to the area outside the exit. He draws flail and kukri.

"There is no area of green on Merchant Level this near the Central Stairs," he says.

Yorrick raises his head and shakes as if in anger or irritation. His eyes are wild and feral.

From the corner of his eye, Peerimus catches a detail that, to his well inculcated familiarity with nature strikes him as out of place. A turn and a closer look reveals the vines weaving slowly in an air with no breeze. They are Assassin Vines.

Suddenly, the carpet of rose vines rise up around the group. They whip and curl in an attempt to entangle. Lorbius, Savin, Ilsidur, Peerimus, and Yorrick are caught in the mass of entangling rose vines.

Suddenly, the two green hills outside the entrance begin to move.

Sly will hang back a little, he's smilling a little (the first time he's smiled since he balled the Ice Vein Ant). "Niobe! I'm very proud to fight next to you, your better at your craft than I could ever wish to be and beside you cute. But I have this feeling that Lady Celine will be close to us. It's just a feeling."

Luke (who is not too far away) tell's Sly, "Lady here!"

Firn'gaer steps back 5-ft. after the druid's warning. Targeting the Assassin Vines nearest him (right side), Firn'gaer sends a spell its way. Saturday June 11th, 2005 1:23:52 PM

Behind the group and to the left, a female voice comes from out of thin air. Suddenly a bloom of fire erupts from in the midst of the plant creatures. When the conflagration subsides the two hillocks and the center assassin vine writhe, crisped and blackened. (Sorry, my boo-boo. Celine was supposed to be invisible.)

Niobe backs toward the disembodied female voice. Tendriculos and Assassin vines. Most assuredly none exist in the environs that surround Hook City. But these plant creatures are known even on the Southern Continent. The enormous Tendriculos, in particular, are spoken of with awe amidst circles of Rangers. They are said to be ravenous and greatly feared.

Niobe directs an arrow at the mound to the left. (T1) It sinks into the green mass, the shaft quivering with the movement of the Tendriculos.

Peerimus too, moves to a strategically safer location before casting a spell that wreathes both his hands and Yorrick's claws in blue fire. Yorrick roars a challenge and strains to leap forward. But, with a shake of his massive head, he obeys, remaining within his master's vicinity.

Peerimus had once heard of a story in which a fellow druid was swallowed whole by a Tendriculos. The druid was barely able to carve his way out with a dagger, and, badly wounded, escape. Rumor is, that the Tendriculos regrows when parts of it are damaged. A truly fearsome enemy.

Ilsidur calls to Chaos-side to impart upon himself perfect freedom of movement. He moves through the morass of gripping vines as if they were not there. (Please be explicit when you cancel the Freedom of Movement from your domain. If you do not, I will consider it active and the clock will tick down on the number of rounds you have available to you.)

As the dwarven cleric strides toward the nearest hillock, axe in hand, the Assassin Vines seize the opportunity to strike at him. The Tendriculos itself sends out a tendril to slam into the dwarf. (A2 Hit AC17, A3 Hit AC15, T1 Hit AC13) The sound of whipping vine, and wood striking off metal fills the air as all three attacks rebound from Ilsidur's armor.

Sly and Luke remain toward the rear of the group. Sly draws his sword and instructs Luke to keep an eye on the invisible lady, who he can only assume is Lady Celine.

Firn'gaer is the only one to actually see the figure of Lady Celine as he glances over his left shoulder. He picks the Assassin Vine on the left from out of the mass of writhing rose vines. (A1) Then taking a step back, he fires off two rays of intense heat. The vegetable monster seems to shrug of the pain and resist the heat and fire damage.

Savin slips between the writhing roses as he jumps straight ahead, skirting the reach of the nearest Tendriculos, to attack the forward Assassin Vine. (A3) Unable to return its resources from the attack on Ilsidur, it is helpless before the monk's assault. It collapses into a still and unmoving heap. Around it, the roses quiet and cease their movement.

Lord Lorbius threads his way slowly (Reflex 27) through the rose vines toward the nearest Assassin. (A2) The Flail in his hand flashes with astounding speed. And the devastation that erupts from the skin of the vine matches the look of hatred in his eyes. (Power Attack Hit AC31, AC31/Damage 16+16 = 32hp)

++++++++++++++++++++

The Assassin Vine on the right (A1) moves in five feet. The area of entangling rose vines seems to move with it. Savin is once again enmeshed within a field of whipping vines.

The right-most Tendriculos (T2) also moves in five feet. Tendrils whip through the air, and slam in toward Savin from 15 feet away. (Hit AC29, AC27/Damage 9+7 = 16hp) Hard woody tendrils strike the monk from both sides. As the tendrils strike, they grasp and wrap, seeking to pull Savin in. Waiting is the giant teeth lined mouth set into the side of the mound. (Oppose a Grapple of 43 or be lifted high into the air and transferred to the mouth, receiving a further 24hp bite damage.)

The left-most Tendriculos (T1) also moves in five feet. Its tendrils drive downward to the attack. It's enormous mouth opens to bite. (Hit AC17, AC25, AC21/Damage 8hp). The single tendril seeks to wrap the dwarven cleric. (Oppose a Grapple of 30 or be lifted high into the air and transferred to the mouth, receiving a further 20hp bite damage.)

Toe to Vine with Lord Lorbius, the far left Assassin Vine (A2) retaliates. (Hit AC19) The head of the vine darts like a striking snake. But it glances off the Lord's Mithral armor.

"Fire is ineffective?!" Says the wizard as he considers his spell repitoire. Out of the corner of his eye he sees movement. Turning his head he sees Lady Celine trailing the group.

Lord Loribus will not be happy... He thinks as he looks directly at her before turning his attention back to the matter at hand.

Simplicity is the best tactic at this point... Firn'gaer thinks.

He calls on his power and a distortion forms around his right hand and five distortions of force fire out at the assassin vine to the right(A1).

"I'll try to clear out the right to clear a path to Savin." He says.

The world explodes again in flames. Savin feels the heat on his face even as he is lifted into the air. From crazy turning angles he sees plant material ignite and burn on the backs of both Tendriculos as the fireball explodes behind them. The monk also sees the plant material quickly regrow in part.

With combat trained senses, the monk knows that he is outmatched by the grasping tendrils. His only hope lies in slaying the grasping mound of vegetable matter before it can swallow him whole. With such in mind, he strikes out madly with a flurry of blows. (At T2) The blows are devastating, crushing woody stalks and pulverizing pulpy plant matter. One other thing that Savin takes note of in the detached combat section of his mind, one cool clear thought as the horrible biting mouth clamps down upon his body, is that the destruction wrought by his bludgeoning blows ... is not healing over.

(Note that next time, however, Savin, striking with a light weapon or unarmed strike while in a grapple carries a -4 attack penalty.)

Sly instructs Luke to watch the invisible spellcaster who simply must be Lady Celine. Luke wanders toward the back. First left. Then right. Triangulating the scent. Finally he stands next to Niobe looking up into an invisible space. From out of thin air both he and Niobe hear a quiet whisper. "Sssshhhhh ... "

Sly walks straight ahead and enters the area of entangling rose vines. (Reflex Check for Sly: 18 - Saved!) The vines clutch at him, but fail to entangle the Bladesinger. His speed, however, slows to half. From his hands shoots a bright white ray, striking the Tendriculos in the mouth.

(That is incorrect, Sly. The DMG says that a Mithral Shirt has a Arcane Spell Failure chance of %10. I rolled it for you. You passed.)

Her bow sounds twice more as Niobe sinks two more feathered shafts into the monstrous green hill of the Tendriculos. (T2) She calls out for any suggestions that might quickly end this battle.

Ilsidur takes the strikes of the Tendriculos' flailing tendrils. But, as they curl to grasp him, a power both cosmic and divine allows him to slip through the grip as though it were not there. One. Two. His axe falls, chunks of flaming matter flying through the air as Ilsidur cleaves into the Tendriculos. (T1) However, before his eyes, the dwarven cleric watches as the wound begins to heal. (Ignore the bite damage. And you are not grappled. Sorry about that.)

Five missiles of light streak from Firn'gaer's hand and the Assassin Vine thrashes in death. (A1) The entangling vines subside around Sly Foxx, and Sly is free.

Peerimus instructs Yorrick to say, and informs his companions of the resistant nature of the Assassin Vine. Then he hurls a ball of blue-green fire at the Tendriculos grinding giant teeth on Savin's body. The flame strikes with a hiss of steaming sap.

A roar comes from Yorrick. He rises up on his hind legs and charges at the nearest attacker, the single remaining Assassin Vine. Blind to the entangling rose vines, the enraged bear wades right in. Very quickly Yorrick is entangled. (Reflex 10) With a single swipe of his paw he sweeps the clinging vines away and turns again to face the Vine.

Lord Lorbius, driven by the power of his loathing for the Assassin Vine, becomes a whirl of flashing weapons, striking with extraordinary speed. (Hit AC37, AC33, AC28, AC31, AC26/Damage 19+18+17+16+15 = 85hp) The Vine literally flies apart. The entangling vines subside, and the Lord turns to other foes.

++++++++++++++++++++

The right-most Tendriculos (T2), on its last legs, rises like a broken wave. Still, its voracious nature drives it on. With prey in its grasp, it must eat. With a quick biting motion it attempts to take Savin into its great belly. (Oppose a Grapple of 28 or be Swallowed Whole.)

The left-most Tendriculos (T1) fights back against the small armored thing that hurts it with fire. Deep within it is the burning need to consume. And yet, somehow it cannot grip this thing no matter how hard it tries. So it strikes instead. Strikes and bites. (Bite AC35, Crit Threat AC25=Critical, Slam AC19, AC28, Damage 24+22+12= 58hp)

Savin feels the creature trying to swallow him and literally crawls up its mouth staying away from the gullet.

(ooc base +7, str +4, improved grapple +4 for a total bonus of +15. Just made the opposed roll.)

Savin now says in a loud voice, "Oh you think I am a snack? All I am is heart burn buddy!"

He strikes at the creature with a flurry of blows again trying to take the creature out as fast as possible using powerattack. He slips and misses with his first attack and thinks, "Maybe elbows are the best weapon."

He decides to use stomp kicks as he is already in the monsters mouth." He hits once for `16 points of damage and gets a critical hit for his second. He stomps down hard and delivers either 19 or 38 points of damage.

ooc Al, I didn't take the -4 since I made my opposed grapple check. I still think I hit with both hits even with the -4. I rolled a critical hit but I am pretty sure plants are immune to them. Still it was fun to roll. Total damage this round is 35.

Peerimus has often seen Yorrick take matters in his own hands so to speak, so it does not cause him any undue stress. Yorrick is his own being after all. Feeling much more confident in the battles outcome, Peerimus moves to help Savin. Assuming it is still alive after the last barrage from Firn'gear. Closing 40' he launches another flaming ball [Touch Attack AC 12 Dmg 8} if Savin is free just send Peerimus towards Ilsidur and throw the ball at that one.

Yorrick charges in towards the green hill attacking Ilsidur. Having to dodge around Lord Loribus, he ends up short just behind the dwarf.

A cringe passes through Peerimus as he knows the mighty plany creature can reach Yorrick long before yorrick reaches it. Hopefully Peerimus will be able to be there shortly to help his friend.

As the effect of her invisibility spell suddenly wears off, Lady Celine suddenly appears behind the group. She chants a spell and passes a hand from forehead to waist. And, for a moment, she is encases in a misty armor of force. That clears and becomes as invisible as she herself was moments ago.

Savin just barely evades the grasping bite of the Tendriculos, (T2) and clambers up out of the fetid gullet of the monster. From that position he delivers a flurry of blows. With his first kick something gives within the Tendriculos, and Savin feels the structure of the plant collapse beneath him. Still, he delivers several more blows for good measure. One strikes what might be a critical spot on the plant monster. If, that is, plant monsters had critical spots.

As the creature holding Savin folds in upon itself, Niobe shifts her aim to the single remaining behemoth. Her second arrow finds its mark, sinking into the body of the Tendriculos. (T1) She watches as the wound begins to grow over with green plant material.

It is then that she remembers that acid can be used against them. Both acid, and strikes with a bludgeoning weapon would produce wounds that would not grow over as quickly.

Sly prepares his signature double windmill strike. But there is no opponent close enough to allow two swings. He takes a five foot step toward the Tendriculos. (T1) He swings twice, but cuts only air. The Tendriculos is still much too far away.

(Sly, if you need to move during a round to reach an opponent, you can only have one strike. That's the same for everyone. BTW, have fun in Texas. ^_^ )

Firn'gaer, like Niobe, turns his missiles against the remaining Tendriculos. Leaves and twigs explode from the creature's side, leaving a gaping rent ... which immediately beings to grow over.

Yorrick nearly bowls his friend aside as he lopes down the ramp toward the moving hill with teeth. Peerimus advances as well, keeping just outside the reach of the grasping tendrils. Peerimus throws another ball of flame, and more of the green hill scorches and blackens.

As Yorrick approaches, the Tendriculos rises up, swelling its mass and towering above both Ilsidur and Yorrick below. The tendrils seize the opportunity provided by their longer reach to strike out at the bear. (AoO Hit AC24, Damage 7hp) A woody tendril lands a weak blow against Yorrick's neck, and begins a slow wrap around the bear's shoulders. (Opposed Grapple 21) Yorrick is unable to shake off the vine, and the group stands witness as the massive bear is lifted into the air and delivered to the toothy maw of the Tendriculos. (Take 19hp bite damage.)

"CELINE!", Lorbius shouts. His voice is half anger and half fear, with the whole colored by something else entirely. But the bear is endangered, and it is not something that he can ignore. Slipping through the tangle of whipping tendrils, he strikes at the mound with his flail. (Power Attack Hit AC29, Damage 16hp)

From his guard position near Lady Celine, Luke bristles at the Lord's shout.

++++++++++++++++++++

The Tendriculos (T1) bites down on Yorrick. (Bite AC27, Damage 22hp, Grapple 33. Please make an Opposed Grapple for Yorrick. If he fails his opposed grapple, he is Swallowed Whole. See below for consequences.)

A tendril thrashes out to strike Ilsidur. (Slam AC16) The woody tendril rings off the cleric's admantium armor. A second tendril comes down on Lorbius. (Slam AC23, Damage 8hp, Grapple 37) The vine strikes lightly, but then wraps itself securely around the Lord. (Opposed Grapple 43) But he lifts his powerful arms and throws the coils off.

What is more disturbing is the impending encounter between the betrothed. Whether or not Lady Celine is as skilled as Lord Lorbius is not really the concern. What is more disconcerting is how much of a distraction she will be to him.

Firn'gaer will move to a position near where he can see to the right. Maybe be able to see any potential threats.

Wednesday June 15th, 2005 10:26:02 PM

Chunks of charred and burning plant fly into the air as Ilsidur buries a single blow into the plant. As the wound begins to grow back, the dwarven cleric calls back for suggestions on how to hurt the thing.

Savin witness to Yorrick's plight, rushes to the bear's aide. No sooner, however, does the noble monk come within reach of the waving tendrils, than one strikes out at him. (AoO Hit AC28, Damage 9hp, Grapple 41) Again Savin is lashed by a tendril. The whipping green stalk wraps quick and sure. Things look bad for Savin. (Make the grapple check with a Nat 20 and avoid this bite damage. Bite Damage 22hp.)

Niobe has the answer, and she calls out for Acid or Bludgeoning weapons. Releasing two more arrows, she sinks both into the pulpy flesh of the Tendriculos. The plant monster has a bear in its mouth and a man held high in one tendril. And yet, to Niobe's ranger eye, it shows signs of severe injury. It shouldn't be long for it now.

Firn'gaer too notes the condition of the monstrous plant, and opts to conserve his power for future conflicts. Looking out across the paved square outside the exit to the ramp it seems very likely that there will be more fighting. And more fighting in the near future. Smoke rises over the roof tops of the sturdy and practical buildings that line the square. Screams and shouts drift on the air from afar. Rubble lies in the streets. Down one narrow path the way is blocked as the remains of buildings on both sides create an impassible barrier after having been thrown into the street by one of the tremors of the previous night.

Over the buildings, across streets, up walls and in through windows, the coils of rose vines cover and curl. They seem to be everywhere. Beyond that, Firn'gaer sees no movement. At least not yet.

Peerimus, seeing his life long friend disappear into the maw of the giant plant, rushes in with club raised. Moving with all possible speed, flying across the tangled covering of rose vines as if they were not there, Peerimus strikes the Tendriculos with the tiny club. It is a weak blow. But, it is, apparently all the blow that is necessary.

A shudder ripples through the hillock. The grip upon Savin relaxes. Within the gullet of the plant, Yorrick still thrashes to escape, biting and clawing at plant matter that is already dead. He bursts through the outer crust of the plant with teeth bared. His eyes are wild and red-rimmed, full of anger, pain and fear. Blood and green pulp drip down his sides, and the blood is his own.

Yorrick turns on the first thing to meet his eyes ... And that is Savin. (Handle Animal DC30 to calm Yorrick down. BTW, rolled a 1d4 counting counter clockwise for the target. 4 was Savin.)

Lady Celine remains up-ramp with Luke and Niobe. While below, Lorbius takes in the rampaging bear. "Druid Peerimus," he says without removing his eyes from Yorrick's every move, "you must calm your friend or harm will come to either he or we. I will attempt to aide you." Then the Lord of Gold Level makes a moaning call much like Yorrick himself has made on occasion. (Aide Another Handle Animal 25. Peerimus gets +2 to his check.)

Savin hps 25/95 ac 24  d20=1
Wednesday June 15th, 2005 10:57:01 PM

Savin is again looking at the molars of a giant plant and he isn't happy about it. Suddenly the plant lets him lose and he decides to get out while the getting is good. (ooc Grapple check natural 1. Wow the dice have turned agaisnt me!)

He doesn't even take a second look at Yorrick but sprints over to Ilsidur and slumps down by him. "Can we go back to the Ice Vein now? Things were nicer there. Just bugs and golems. These plants are nasty."

If Savin gets a chance, (not sure if we are in combat still) he will cure himself 20 points of damage with his wholeness of body feat. He looks at the clerics and druids of the group and says, "Got any healing to spare?)

[I usually announce when we are in and out of combat rounds. Right now you have an enraged bear with its eye specifically on you. I'd be concerned. -Al]

Niobe (73/73HP, 19 AC)  d20+4=23
Thursday June 16th, 2005 1:29:18 AM

If it doesn't prove to be a distraction, then Niobe will also attempt to assist Peerimus (as Lord Lorbius is doing) with handling Yorrick.
(Handle animal 23; if this helps any then P. gets a further +2 from Aid Another; provided these things stack!)

Niobe will hold any further attacks for the moment if the hungry plant is truly dead.

Firn'gaer  d20+8=13 d20+8=9
Thursday June 16th, 2005 9:16:19 AM

Growls and roars turn Firn'gaer attention from watching down the street. Yorrick in a state of bloodlust similar to forest threatens again.

This is gotta stop before he hurts someone.

Firn'gaer calls for and draws a thin wand from his haversack, Wand of Ray of Enfeeblement. He waits to see if Peerimus can bring his friend under control.

Peerimus [AC 15 HP 93/93] and Yorrick [AC 19 HP 7/73]  d20+17=36 d20+17=30
Thursday June 16th, 2005 9:53:52 AM

The Plant creature slumps and Yorrick blasts free. Peerimus heart lightens for a moment, an all too breif of a moment. There is something terribly wrong. Yorrick and he both have been severely injured before, but his friend has never been like this.

"The creatures will recover any wounds not inflicted by acid or blugdeoning." Peerimus quickly says before shifting into a bear and moves towards Yorrick to assure him the threats are gone and Savin is not a victory snack. [Handle animal 36+4 Aid=40]

Peerimus moves up next to the great calming Kodiak and begins leading him back away from the fight and towards the ramp. [Handle Animal 30]

Green Hell/Merchant Level Stairs - End of Combat Rounds (DM/Al)  d20+15=17
Thursday June 16th, 2005 10:24:39 PM

Savin scoots away from Yorrick and around Peerimus, but not before Yorrick swipes at him with a paw full of long sharp claws. (AoO Hit AC17) Great wisdom and dexterity help the monk avoid a parallel track of claw marks down his back.

Niobe approaches to within fifty feet and adds soothing words to those of Lord Lorbius.

In anticipation of a bloody fray, Firn'gaer readies a wand that may take some of the fight out of the bear.

Peerimus then shifts into bear form, and steps in. Yorrick moans, and the cry is plaintive, full of hurt and confusion. Something tugs at Yorrick from afar. And, in the form of a bear, Peerimus feels it as well. It is full and grand, singing across the Wold. Full of power and freedom. The power to crush anything that stands in its path.

Peerimus finds himself standing up on hind legs, half again as large as Yorrick. Yorrick looks up at the magnificent bear that his druid friend has become. And, for the first time, Peerimus sees a look in Yorrick's eyes that the bear has never turned his way before. It is a look of fear.

Celine picks her way down the vine covered ramp. And Lorbius backs away from the giant Peerimus in bear form to intercept her before she gets too close. Yorrick, Savin and Ilsidur stand, covered in their own blood.

A sudden gale whips at clothing and hair, blowing dust into eyes, and scattering rose petals in its wake.

"Delivery from the Cata ... combs ... " A startled gnome dressed in uniformed livery survey's the blood and devastation around him. "Er, the, uh, items that you left for identification." He takes a small roll of cloth from his sleeve, and gives it a sharp snap. With a *pop* the cloth becomes a rather large box.

"Oh, and here's the catalog." He hands the blood covered monk a leather binder. Inside is a neatly penned description of each item accompanied by a figure indicating its selling price.

"Er, now, if you don't mind, I think I'll be ... getting back."

The figure of the gnome collapses into two dimensions. Then, with a *pop* of air, he disappears.

Ilsidur moves over beside Peerimus, and reaches up to touch the very wounded Yorrick. "Calm, calm, big one," he says, as he casts a cure spell on the huge bear. [OOC: Cast cure critical wounds on Yorrick, healing for 32 hp damage.]

When the Catacombs delivery shows up, Ilsidur says, "Yes, I could use some of those items, but there are other items that would be of much greater use to me. Please sell my share and give me the money."

Savin
Friday June 17th, 2005 10:26:19 AM

Savin is surprised by the slash from Yorrick but dodges away. "Hey Peerimus! What did I do to him?" he asks plainitiviley.

He sits down and concentrates and allows his body to heal itself but still feels worn out. "We took a beating....OK I took a beating and we haven't even gotten anywhere yet."

When the magic is delivered, a smile comes into his eyes. "OK we need to figure out how to split this stuff up. If we can get the magic shares around even, then whoever wants can sell there share and buy what they want. (OOC prices listed are with the 10% charge from the catacombs)

"I would really like the cloak of displacement. It seems to fit my fighting style the best out of the choices that are here."

Peerimus [AC 22 HP 73/73] and Yorrick [AC 19 HP 39/73]  d20+17=35
Friday June 17th, 2005 2:50:18 PM

Continuing to move Yorrick away from teh Tendriculous', Peerimus remains on all fours as he talks to Yorrick and tries to ascertain what is troubling him and to calm him down.
Power, freedom, revenge
The call is soft, but unmistakenable. The same call or rather the same feel as when he flew above this small insignificant civilized place. Peerimus rises to his full height, towering above those about him a thundering challenge rips from him in a huge bear cry to all who would hear. for those who speak bear Highlight to display spoiler: { "What care have I for these interlopers upon Mother Wold? With a call I should rise up with the forest, claim what is ours"}

A deep look begins to shadow the druids face and a primal growl rolls from deep within the massive bear that is Peerimus. Then he catches the eyes of his longest and most truest friend.
The look tears into him like a knife and Peerimus finds himself quickly shifting back to human, just as the delivery is made.

Peerimus ignores the man and instead moves into Yorrick and gives the mighty bear a hug. In his own strange dialect he says a few words to Yorrick. [Handle Animal 35 to defend Peerimus]

Niobe waits to see what happens with Peerimus and Yorrick, and also what happens with Lorbius and Celine.

Niobe is interested in the Glove of Storing and the Boots of Teleportation. (other than that she would like gold; if there will be any gold as well; wasn't the split somewhere around 80000gp each?? I am not trying to be greedy of course).
