The Nature of Things

DM Jan ((OOC))
Tuesday May 24th, 2005 3:17:49 PM

((OOC - guys, this next few weeks may be a little chaotic.
Characters in other games are currently making various discoveries about the strange happenings in the Wold and need to get this info to the Platinum Dragons as soon as they get it.
That way, a plan can be drawn up to combat the growing chaos before it turns deadly for us all.

I'll need all/some of you to do a few guest slots on other boards. I'll let you know which ones as various situations arise.

It's probably better that we do the traveling around, because not all players have access to all the boards, and I reckon most of us do.

If any of you struggle getting to other boards, let me know?

Right now we have the Windhorn Hamleteers banging on our door.))

One day in Plateau City, a group of adventurers are found at the doorstep of Gold Dragon castle.
They have news....

Corialote
Tuesday May 24th, 2005 10:29:49 PM

Cori has been in meetings with the Star Mage guild leaders for most of her time off. She is relucatant to have to pass on the demands of the Guild. She approaches Valdor as she returns to let him know first what is being sought. "I am not sure that I am in total agreement with the council...in fact I think the girl is better where she is at." She does make herself available to the young girl as she has a teddy to repair and she wants to keep her word.

Cori will of course use her magic to make copies of all the writings that the girl makes for herself...though she will most likely be asked to make ones for the Guild as well.

She will also make herself scarce for a small amount of time as she wants to do a little something that is only her business. It will require at least three days of her time.

Jan, will email you about creating a wand as it will allow Cori to advance in the Star Mage guild as well as give her a new weapon. This is of course after we gain a little experience. :)By the way...I am back to play.

Tericus
Wednesday May 25th, 2005 6:47:03 AM

"Im back." Tericus says as he enters the castle, with a big bag of money. "Can someone help me with this?" he says as he struggles with the bag.

OOC - the bag contains 365230 gps from the items i sold in the catacombs. added to the 810000 in diamonds we found, the total money we have is 1175230 gps. quite a bit. plus we have 2 rods of empowerment, a ring of prot. +3, and a amulet of Nat. armor +5. Also, the storm dragons still have the following items from when we fought the drow vampires. 8 +4 longswords, 8 +4 elven chain mail, 8 minor ring of fire ressitance, and one major ring of fire resistance. i can combine all the items if you want, or keep it seperate. also, if anyone is interested in any of the items, let me know(for instance, im wanting the amulet and a set of chain mail)

Gareth
Wednesday May 25th, 2005 6:52:34 AM

The warrior adds, "We need to add the 25,000 to what I sold, so its now 1,205,230 GPs. Tericus, I'd say lets keep the treasures separate as Nonam and Jus should get a portion of that...".

Onrad
Wednesday May 25th, 2005 11:21:49 AM

::ooc I assume Jan that the diamonds that Onrad picked up were included in your listing of treasure? Just double checking::

Onrad looks the blind woman in the eye and addresses the other priests in his hearing range:

"I was given to believe that followers of Gargul abhorred the undead--those who avoided the judgment seat of the God of Life and Death, may he always judge fairly and prosper in both pantheons!

"We suffered, were cursed, fought him more than once, were ability drained, survived upper level death attacks, defeated other liches and evilness that surrounded him, followed him after he ran to the Giggling Ghost and prevented him from listening in on the Elven meeting there about the Grand Convergence, chased him to his tower in a desert somewhere north that no Elennian has ever been, and defeated him. However, he's a clever being. He has avoided the God of death and had achieved a form of immortality that was unnatural.

"So when I come wanting to confirm his status and location on behalf of the Dragon Consortium I am answered with more riddles and vague answers. Pray to Gargul, and be sure that this is HIS will that you answer in this fashion.

"Perhaps next time, loyal priests, you can fight the undead and bring them to justice? Save the surface Drow tribe from the perversions of the undead?

"I respectfully and honestly bid you to think and pray upon these things. And if you have anything else to tell us about Morlas in a more straightforward manner you can find us at the Gold Dragon Castle any morning at breakfast time."

Onrad bows politely, smiles genuinly to let them know he's not angry, just serious and honest. Then he puts a token donation into the coffer (100gp) and leaves.

At breakfast the next day, Onrad makes sure that Valdor has his diamonds he collected and informs them of what he discovered at Gargul's temple.

"I got a bit of the runaround there. Seems our friends at that temple don't realize what we've been through lately with this lichlord. They say "he's not threat to us" but wouldn't elaborate.

Since they were not too helpful, I gave only a token donation. Just so you know. I tried to be honest, forthright, and respectful. We didn't go through all that to get more riddles, my friends."

"Now about the new name. I think we have a consensus. I also think the current leadership is to be maintained. Valdor as the Dragonstone over the consortium as a whole and our ambassador. Valdor and Gareth share group leadership.

"We do need a treasurer. I nominate Tericus for that. He is honest and seems already to have demonstrated some mathematical skills."

::grinning he bows towards Tericus::

"He can divy up things and sell any magic, etc. we don't need.

"As for me, I tend to be an organizer. So I volunteer to be over the staff of both the Manor and the castle here if you'll have me. I'll be happy to keep the staff working hard, pay their salaries working through Tericus, handle upkeep, etc. Should Marlow (sp?) ever return, he can take over for me. I'll also handle public relations. I'll hire a firm today to announce the changes to our name and our merger.

"I suggest that we hire a paint crew, artist and seamstress to change over all the coat of arms, gold trimming, and banners to a new design and of course done in platinum. I'll see to it in the Float as well. Are there any objections to that?

"Tericus, what percent of our earnings do you think we'll need for upkeep and paying staff, etc.? For platinum renovations? We do have a standard with the public to keep up for morale's sake. The faster all this is done the better."

((OOC - I guess the key factor for the treasure is the divisible number.
Current active members are Valdor, Mordrid, Cori, Nick, Myrridan, Gareth, Tericus, Onrad.
Semi active - Nonam, Jus, Jandar?
Anyone I've missed?
And yep, I think Sam had the diamond total in there.))

The Dragons find themselves juggling a multitude of concerns.
Right now there is a visit from the Hamleteers over on the WINDHORN HAMLET BOARD.
Right now Mitchum and his staff over at the Storm Dragon mansion have similar concerns raised by Flabersham.
Right now there's ton of loot to distribute.
Right now, the transition to 'Platinum' needs to be organised - practically and politically. No doubt the Overlord and Sturtavent will hear about it sooner or later and will be seeking assurances.
Right now, the 'problem' regarding the little girl brought back from Morlas's lair, is blowing up into a minor political stink between the Star Mages guild and the Cathedral of Light.

Ah, nothing like a quiet life is there :)

Oh, and right now, out in the field, Myrridan is given a message that he should be on the lookout for undead.
Why? Let's roll back a day or so and take a little peek inside the Skull Temple in Plateau City -

During Onrad's visit to the Skull Temple -
A tall hooded man there has heard the exchange, and takes a step toward the Soulseeker and the Adventurer, only to be halted by a hand gesture from Mother Helen.
Once Onrad has left -

"A grave insult, Mother. Questioning our faith. What more did he wish for? You told him the creature is where he is supposed to be. Perhaps I should go and hammer a map reference into his forehead, and by way of it, teach him some manners."

"Enough Dalrag. That was a personal fight for him, and emotions get the better of us all, yes."

"I shall heed your words, Mother and calm myself. However, the attitude these adventurers have toward death, undeath and the realm of Gargul beggers the imagination. One lich and he's an expert. I expect that your warnings about his welfare went entirely over the top of his head. Dealing with death can poison a man, ruin his soul."

Mother Helen looks up and smiles.
"Are you worried lest he end up looking like you, Dalrag?"

The tall man throws back his hood, revealing the ruinous face of an Undead Hunter. He laughs
goodnaturedly.

"That man was a Storm Dragon. They are based over in the Floating City. Perhaps we should concern ourselves a little as to why he is here, and not there. Just something to think on. Come," says the Mother Soulseeker, re-entering the inner sanctum of the temple "tell me your news."

"It is as we feared, Mother. Where nature is at it's most rampant, the walls are thin. Something is causing the boundaries between the living Wold and the Shadowlands to falter. If it continues, there could be catastrophe beyond measure."

"Then we must pray for guidance, Dalrag. I will send someone to the Druid Quarter also. They should know what to expect, and they are likely to get hit first, out in the field, should the worst happen. Come. We have much work to do...."

Mordrid
Wednesday May 25th, 2005 5:46:42 PM

Mordrid listens attentively to Onrad's excitement over the two troups merging. He keeps in mind that it will better serve the kingdom (ooc: and our DM core)...

"I understand your excitement Onrad, however I must stop you there. Valdor leads the Golds; Gareth leads the Storms. The Dragonstone leads the Platinums. If Valdor is incapacitated, I will then be in charge, just as I have for the past 30 years. Then upon my incapacitation the combined groups will be in the capable hands of Gareth. There will be NO dual leadership. It does not work. There must be a master, and a servant. I know Gareth can accept this charge, and if he can not, then I say to you that the Storm Dragons have been extremely successful without the Gold Dragons thus far." Mordrid remains in good spirit as he speaks, however his arms are crossed and he stands straight, not accepting a challenge.

Gareth
Wednesday May 25th, 2005 7:02:49 PM

The warrior listens to the conversation. "I suppose before we speak of leaders, followers, and renovations, that we should decide if this a permanent merger or just a collaboration. No need to argue about things that are not necessary...".

Corialote
Wednesday May 25th, 2005 10:42:36 PM

Cori stays around the Gold base for some time as she is now at least a part member. She has been attending meetings that the Star Mage Guild has called and her attendance is mandatory as she now holds a position with the group that holds the girl.

After one such meeting she comes to Valdor with a worried look upon her face that is not easy to hide. She pulls him off to the side if at all possible to talk to him alone first. "Valdor...I would bring it to your attention that the Star Mage Guild is making a play to get thier hands upon the girl...they are currently fighting the church for this right." She flops into a chair and lets her head drop into her hands as she rubs her temples. "I find myself possibly having to make a decision between my first family and my newest family...also a moral delimma that I am not looking forward to." She looks back up with hope in her eyes and a plea. "We must find neutral ground for all parties...that little girl will be the loser in the end." She rubs her temples some more as her head continues to ache.

I maybe interested in a rod of empowerment, unless it would be better served with one of the others. I am not sure what other arcane magics we have at our disposal in the group. Especially with the merging.

Valdor
Wednesday May 25th, 2005 11:24:28 PM

Valdor rubs his temples at all the flood of information. He says finally,"Mordrid, you know I consider noone under my command a servant. I understand what you meant, but the Storms do not know you like I do. I also understand that we all are professionals here. Everyone would be quite capable to be the leader. I do feel that there should be an agreement that if, and only if, a decision must be made in a split second, I will make it for the group. I don't think there's any question that my decisions up to this point have almost always been the right one. I do not let anger, greed, hatred, nor jealousy ever cloud my judgement, as some others might. I think only of the group as a whole and our safety and survival. We can split the treasure equally, with Nonam, Jus, and Jandar, if he wants any of it. I'm not overly concerned about that. Onrad, Moral is gone for now. That has to be good enough, or we'll spend our lives chasing something that may not ever be caught. We thought that about Flame once, twice, three times even. You would be a good choice for the details of the changes to be made.

Back to the point though, a singular decision is not a situation that happens very often. Most times, we have time to discuss and gain concensus. Let's see how things go for a while before deciding anything further. We must, however, make a decision as to whether the merger is final. We can bring the staff from your mansion, and anything needed here, if that is agreeable. If you have decorations, a special chair, whatever...it is welcome. I think this would be the most reasonable place to make a headquarters, simply because of the size of the place. We have more than enough room and the mansion in the Float would be there for you all whenever you wanted it.

All of this gives me gas. I'm a warrior and a strategist, Onrad is best suited to the dealings. Mycroft, also is good at such things. Must be a nobility thing or something.

But, these are all minor issues when compared to the fate of the little girl. Cori, I trust the Star Tower mostly, no offense, but as you know, if there is a chance for more power, then sometimes that will cloud their better judgement and blind them to things they should not be doing. The girl's well being must be first priority. She is far too young to be treated like an animal under observation. I would hardly do that to an orc, much less a young girl. So, I feel it necessary to side, not with the Tower, and not necessarily with the Cathedral, but with the girl. I believe the clerics of Alemi will treat her kindly and it's likely that's the best chance for anyone to get information. The wrong person gets hold of her at the Mages Guild, and she's gone forever and the doorway is opened to all kinds of evil.

So, I believe we must keep her at the Cathedral of Light, with an understanding that we, since we found her and saved her from Morlas, are her guardians, and noone is to perform any tests on her, nor spells on her, that we do not approve. Please send that message to your Masters of the Tower, with my personal guarantee that any information she provides, written or spoken, will be translated to someone we trust and know at the guild...yourself. As a show of our good faith, we would like you to join us, so that you will be witness to all that we do and can report it to the Tower. Plus, you have a cool stomach and nice legs."

He's grinning at her mischievously, but is sincere in what he says. There it is, her open invitation to join the Platinum Dragons. He finishes by saying,"You know, everyone, people are judged by the company they keep. I believe, with all my heart, that every single person in this group, whether elf, human, drow, dwarf, of half elf, are the best and I am proud to travel with you all, live with you all, and even die with you all. Now, I'm thirsty...ALE!!!!"

Tericus
Thursday May 26th, 2005 11:03:00 AM

frowning at Mordred for calling Gareth and the rest of his friends servents, Tericus is about to say something to Mordred until Valdor speaks up. satisified that things are settled, Tericus goes over to Corialote and gives her one of the rods. "Its yours." he says "And dont feel guilty about taking it. I myself am keeping the amulet."

Onrad
Thursday May 26th, 2005 4:20:51 PM

Onrad smiles genuinly, but looks straight into Mordrid's eyes.

"When we are together, we will be equals. I am speaking of who will be our battle caller and official spokesman when we are together as a combined group--as the Platinum Dragons.

"We must join as equals. That means my fellow Storm Dragons and I have equal say in who leads. I do now dispute Valdor's leadership in the Consortium. I do, however, feel that Valdor and Gareth can work in sync as co-leaders within the group. It those two cannot work as brothers, can the rest of us?

"I assume that you meant you, Mordrid, will be 2nd to Valdor among the Golds, not that you were putting yourself above our leader Gareth, correct my friend?

"I can agree to take this a step at a time as far as whether this arrangement is permanent or not. It seems there are yet bugs, if only in communication, to work out.

"Now, pass the fruit and sugar please."

Nick
Thursday May 26th, 2005 5:02:15 PM

"I'll make sure everything is all right with that little girl," Nick assures Valdor, "from the Cathedral angle at least. On a personal level she seems to have struck up a friendship with Mordrid, and Cori to some extent. Not a bad thing either. Maybe other distractions will let her forget all that evil in her head."

Listening to the group talk of leadership, he's in firm agreement with Gareth.
"I'm assuming we've reached a point in our lives where we're unlikely to be squabbling over leadership in the midst of battle, so lets not tarry too long on this argument, just in case our mighty egos decide to get in on the act." He shrugs. "We all have our parts to play."

Interesting though, he's thinking. Especially considering Mordrid's comments. The extent of Valdor and Mordrid's relationship wasn't immediately apparent. It was only after a while that one perhaps got the idea that they were two halves of the same person. And Mordrid was definitely Valdor's darker half.
If Valdor ever got cut down... would that affect Mordrid, to the point where he became dangerous? His normal rationale and judgement blackened beyond repair?
Nick suspected that was highly possible. Of course it was nothing that could ever be discussed without causing deep offense. It was just something to be aware of, and would never be a point of judgement. After all they were all walking fine lines of sanity here. Lines that, depending upon the situation, could be cut from under them all.

DM Jan
Thursday May 26th, 2005 5:25:06 PM

And so, a decision is made about the girl. Treasure and leadership are discussed.

These discussions are perhaps meant to be had in less turbulent times, when the Dragons are not buffeted from pillar to post, in what is becoming a growing storm. Alas, whenever have there been less turbulent times?

Matters suddenly take a turn for the worse, when -

during the discussion with the Hamleteers WINDHORN HAMLET BOARD

Flabersham intervenes to inform everyone that the Endless River has burst it's banks, and the streets of Plateau City are flooding.

Flabersham also says that a representative from the Woldian League of Adventuers is in the hallway, asking if one or more of the Dragons would visit Dirt City DIRT CITY BOARD on the premise that the adventuring group there has vital information about the Fae King.

And if that wasn't enough -

The Storm Dragons recieve an urgent message through their dragon communicator - it's the Overlord, over on the Floating City. Apparently the city is on a tilt, and she's talking about possibly having to evacuate.

And hey - someone said they saw Dahlia walking through the front gate?

Dahlia
Thursday May 26th, 2005 5:47:40 PM

Walking into the dining room as Valdor finishes his pretty speech, Dahlia flips her hair over her left shoulder and flashes Coria a bright smile and a wink of one of her purple eyes.

"So Valdor, you think she has a cool stomach and nice legs do you? Hmm, For some reason, I find that quite interesting."

"Onrad, Gareth, Tericus, good to see you again. Have you all at least left a lady a couple dozen pancake to eat?"

So Corialote, Don't you find it amusing that these tetosterone laden males think they are, by right of their malehood, deemed fit to lead anything?

So I hear you all joined forces of late. I assume that this is the conversation that I have so rudely interrupted.

"Anyway, I came back early because there are some very odd things occurring around the Brink and the Monser Preserve.

Something seems to have given nature a major jump start. There are very few game trails left to be found even a day after being cut, for they are overgrown by nightfall. The plantlife is even starting to encroach upon the major roads. The rivermen report sudden encounters with fresh water kelp to the point of several boats being overrun over night. There have also been sightings of mysterious beasts, prowling the edges of the Woods.

On a positive note, my grape vines appear to be laden with grapes the size of Valdor's fist."

Corialote
Thursday May 26th, 2005 8:26:00 PM

Cori looks to Valdor and give him a weak smile. "I would agree...some mages are in it for the power...and I take no offense to anything that you have said." She sighs as she rubs her temples some more. "I myself have my doubts about the Guild but I must stay on good relations with them." She does brighten as Valdor jokes and in the process does not with her. "I would be honored to join the Dragons and as for following you...well it is a rather attractive sight...maybe a little distracting." There is a hint of laughter in her eyes as she speaks and her mouth quirks, though you get the feeling that she is not totally joking as well.

Taking the rod from Tericus she bows her head. "Since it will be used in defense and such for the group...I will not let it bother me." She gives him a rare smile and then slips the rod into a pocket of her pants, that really should not be able to hold it.

With a nod of her head she rubs her temples again as she feels the weight of what she will most likely be called to do. "I will also see what I can do with the Star Mage Guild...I maybe able to get them to allow the Dragons to be the girls permanent guardian." She hopes that she can do that and keep the Guild happy. She has already decided that she will not take the girl but make all the defenses that she can to make sure that she will live a normal life. "I will make sure that she has a happy childhood...they will not use her as a pawn or a tool." Her eyes flash with anger as her hands clasp into fists.

A bigger smile crosses her face as Dahlia comes into the room. "Yes he has shown a lot of interest in me lately...I think that he may have taken that kiss I gave him in the Giggling Ghost the wrong way." She gives Valdor a slight smile as her eyes flicker with mirth. "I also notice that the males seem to think that they can command better than us...but this way I can tell them that I told them so later when it all goes bad." She gives Dahlia one of those knowing smiles as if they are sharing a secret that only females would understand. With a sigh of happiness she sits forward a little as she picks up a cup of wine in her hand. "Oh yes, you should see my roses...the size of Valdor's head they are...the best I have ever had."

Mordrid
Thursday May 26th, 2005 11:38:52 PM

[OOC: Under other circumstances I would role play Mordrid's disapproval of the castle and titles of the Gold Dragons being altered as such. However I do understand that we are building to something greater here. So, I hope I am forgiven for not playing my chracter true. I am not going to cause any distraction here, and will begin role playing as if everything that is going on right now makes total sense. Mordrid will welcome the Storm's absolutely. I want to have fun, not cause discourse. Let's head this off.]

Mordrid nods to the party. "Very well. Apparently our combined forces are needed. The Wold is evolving in a very alarming way."

Valdor
Thursday May 26th, 2005 11:52:29 PM

When Valdor sees Dahlia, he sweeps her up inyo a bear hug, basically turning her invisible. He laughs aloud and says,"You always did a fine job of keeping things a little more lively. Everyone has good points. You must all understand Mordrid, although he wouldn't care if you did or not. He sees things very black and white, not much gray. He likes structure. Things have obviously worked well the way they've gone over the years for us. He wouldn't own a servant, nor does he consider anyone here servants. He was making a comparison, simple enough. But enough of this talk.

Cori, thank you for your effort. I do not want to put you into a bad situation and I trust you completely.

Dahlia, are you back to travel with us? We sure could use your help.

And Nick, you are right. We are all extremely proud, and rightfully so. We have earned such a place and we will be fine. Let's decide now what to do. I will go to Dirt City, as I know some of the adventurers there and some of the...less well known people.

Gareth, who do you feel should travel to the Float? All of you, or some. I'll take Dahlia to Dirt City briefly, if she wants to go. This seems a great big puzzle, and she has heard and seen some of the other pieces. Maybe this will help her put some of it together. Cori and Mordrid and Nick can see to the girl's well being and arrangements, since she trusts Mordrid and Cori and Nick represent the two groups of discussion. Tericus would also be welcome there or he could go with Gareth to the Float to see the Overlord. I suggest Onrad decide on the staff from your mansion and make the arrangements to get them here quickly, if that is your wish. He can also decide on the renaming and decorating, and so on. Probably the same conclusions that everyone has, but just my thoughts on it. Any other ideas or objections to that. I suggest half a day. We can be back quicker and, if Onrad needs it, he can have us running errands for him.

We probably need Myrridan to help stop the flooding very quickly."

He stops for a second, then decides not to wait and activates his earring saying,"Myrridan, big feela, we need you at the castle in a hurry. The endless river has flooded its banks and we are about to have a serious problem. Get your druid friends and redirect that river out of the city and over the cliff, or we'll have to get the Mages Guild to try to stop the magic of it, which would probably cause a worst disaster. We need you now!"

Mordrid
Friday May 27th, 2005 12:08:26 AM

Mordrid rushes up to Dahlia and gives her a big hug. "Good timing my friend. You have been terribly missed."

Nick
Friday May 27th, 2005 1:04:14 AM

Having got into a bit of a flap, with all this news coming in, and trying to help matters, Nick has dashed into the hall to talk to the WLA fellow and without further ado, is stepping into the portal for Dirt City as Dahlia arrives.

"Hey Dahl -!" whup. He's gone.

Myrridan
Friday May 27th, 2005 2:57:08 AM

Myrridan suddenly materializes behind Valdor as he talks to him through the ear piece. "Good Valdor, there is no need to shout," he says with a smile! "Certainly, moving the earth to diverted the water flow shouldn't be a problem. We only need to find a natural path to the sea. We dont want to flood families out of their holes or villages."

Then thinking about what he experienced at his keep outside Angel Springs, Myrridan continues, "By the way, I felt a disturbance in nature while I was back thumbing through some tomes in my library. I felt a quaking in the earth, originating from the direction of Culverwood Forest. I was about to inspect the area when you called for me."

Gareth
Friday May 27th, 2005 6:41:57 AM

The warrior nods to Valdor as the news of all the stuff comes rolling in. "I'll head to the float with Onrad and call on Nonam and Jus to join us. Tericus, why don't you go with Valdor and meet these new folks. They might need healing. I'm sure we'll be in touch - and best of luck to us all!". And with that, he bids Onrad join - and they leave.

Tericus
Friday May 27th, 2005 9:14:59 AM

"Looks like im with you guys." Tericus tells Valdor and Dahila. "Lets go. Ive never been to Dirt City before. Is it really made of dirt?"

OOC, ive sold the items, and the total came to 1,207,130 gps, and thats including the diamonds. i kept 50,002 gps for castle upkeep, and that leaves 150,891 gps for us each. i didnt subtract the cost of the magic items that Tericus and Corialote kept from their totals, but if anyone has a problem with this let me know and ill adjust everyone's total accordenely.

Valdor
Friday May 27th, 2005 11:34:50 AM

Valdor tells Tericus, "Works for me. Let's get going. Myrridan, do what you must, but do it quickly, or more than a few will die."

Onrad
Friday May 27th, 2005 2:23:44 PM

::shutting up totally with mouth agog at the lack of a reaction he got from Mordrid, he shrugs, appologizes for his obtuseness, realizes how much he misses Nonam despite himself, and asks Jandor to join them if Tericus is going with the golds.::

Holding his hand out for Jandar, he nods at Gareth. He passes around Nonam's mass teleport ring and they go.

Once arrived in front of their manor, he quickly rushes inside and gathers the staff.

"Grab our most important valuables of the house, your valuables, clothes for a month, and meet me here in an hour. We're moving in with the Golds. In fact, during this emergency at least, we're joining with them to make a super group. We'll now be known as the Platinum Dragons when we're together!"

"I'm off with Gareth. I suspect he'll want to see the Overlord immediately."

"I will return in an hour and pop you to Plateau City. Any requests? Questions?"

He runs back outside and sayd to Gareth, "Ok, where to boss?"

WINDHORN HAMLET BOARD

DIRT CITY BOARD

PLATEAU CITY -

The meeting with the Hamleteers reaches toward a final decision.

Introductions are being made over in Dirt City, or rather just outside Dirt City with a young but brave team of adventurers.

The drow mage Corialote accepts the invitation to become a Dragon.
This proves to help matters considerably over at the Star Tower. To have another of their members in a Dragon group is something of immense worth, and oh, how suddenly her words are heeded. How deferential her peers become. Just like that.

Myrridan arrives to give his advice about the rising water.
Sturtavent's voice crackles over the ear piece.
"I assume you've noticed the water. I've got every mage and civil engineer looking at it, and if you have any advice, now's the time to give it."
The mayor sounds a little more energized since the last time the Dragons met him. After all, emergencies have a habit of dragging a man roughly out of his wallowing pond of personal problems.

Flabersham approaches Mordrid.
"Sir, the stables are ankle deep, and the hen hut is awash. May I bring the animals inside?"

The castle corridors are suddenly very busy. No doubt Rossko, Mycroft and Joe Hand are doing what they can. In fact there's a percussive 'whump' as various items are teleported to safety, shortly followed by the sight of the half celestial Joe flying out of the window and toward the river.
Some of the servants are dragging bags of earth toward the main entrance hall to dam the front entrance.
In the kitchens, the cook is yelling like he's never yelled before.
"Get those potatoes upstairs! Get the chickens! No, no, no, you oaf! Take that, not that! Don't let that flour get wet! Move!"

FLOATING CITY -

Gareth and Onrad stumble slightly on arrival at the Storm Dragon mansion, the ground being slightly off kilter.
The mansion is completely covered in ivy and white roses. The scent is beautiful.
The butler Mitchum is outside the front door, overseeing some men put two large wooden braces up against the wall. He raises an eyebrow toward Onrad.
"Very well, Sir. I'm sure we'll be ready to be 'popped'. Will you need staff left at the mansion?"

Through the open doorway, both Gareth and Onrad might see some bags already in the hall, but then Mitchum always did have that uncanny knack of knowing what was going to happen.

On the Gold level it's hard to get the mood of the City. there's an underlying sense of urgency perhaps but that's all. But sprigs of grass are forcing their way up through cracks in the street, and despite the lack of natural direct light, gardens, windowboxes and potted fruit trees are running riot.
Communication tells them both that Nonam is at the Palace with the Overlord already, and Jus is out in the field, but making his way back as soon as possible.

Cori would have burst out laughing at the coucncil if it would not have offended them. She joins the Dragons officially and now she is treated as more of an equal. In many ways it is what she wanted but to earn it this way...makes her angry. She makes her way back to the mansion of the Dragons, after stopping off to get a couple of things from her home.

As she reenters the mansion she is once again caught in the knowledge that she has joined with something larger in scale than she would have thought possible. She turns her head slightly to look at the raven that perches on her shoulder and shrugs. "This will be our new home from time to time." She then wanders off to find the little girl that they had rescued.

Once found she presents the little girl with a series of cuttings from her own personal garden. "I thought you might like something interesting to do with you time." She smiles as she lays a hand upon the child's head. "I think the garden here could use a little color...do you like flowers? These are a form of rose that I created myself that matches the color of my hair." She indicates her hair as she pulls some around for the girl to see. "What do you think...want to plant them?" Part of her mind wonders if it is ok to plant them in the garden here...after all she has no permission but what the heck.

If anyone comes to seek the girl or Cori they will most likely find them in the garden, working up a spot for roses. Cori often looks to the young girl and wonders if she would one day like to learn magic, but banishes that from her mind...plenty of time for those things later.

"The animals would stand a better chance in the yards. Free them all. They would have no chance indoors when the waters rise."

"Valdor, this chaos must be stopped. We should visit Maab to enlist her aid. She may be able to tell us where the Fae King can be found. The entrance to her realm was in a valley to the southwest. There lies a Tucree temple. A great battle had been fought in that valley. Do you remember?"

Valdor

"Mitchum, I think we should leave some here, but our new leader Valdor says we should all stay in one place for now. So mothball it and we're all going.

"Oh, and Tericus wants his stuff... whatever that is. Use your discretion."

PLATEAU CITY -

The Windhorn Hamlet meeting appears to be concluded, and it's looking like the Hamleteers get the daunting task of seeking out the Lady Maab, to enlist her help.

Right now the Dragons are scattered.
Cori is over at the Cathedral, some Dragons are on the outskirts of Dirt City, some are in the Big Float, dashing up to the Palace. Myrridan and some of the others are down by the river trying to figure out what to do about it, and are definitely getting somewhere. Mordrid is left holding the "ever getting wetter" fort.

Flabersham obeys the rangers instructions, and soon the horses are loose, chickens fly up to the roof, where they gather, clucking loudly, closely followed by the geese.

FLOATING CITY -

Gareth, Onrad and Jandar dash up to the next level and enter the Overlord's Palace. They're admitted quickly. The large dining room is in slight disarray, having been turned into a temporary war room.
A large schematic of the City is spread out across one of the tables and a group of about 15 people are gathered around it.
"Please, come and join us!" urges the Overlord.

No time for niceties it seems, and for good reason.
All the level representatives are there, a couple of druids, mages, and a few others.

One man says -
"Right now, we're over at approximately 10 degrees. Just another 5 degrees, and some of our infrastructure will start to collapse. Basically, anything not Teucri built is in danger of falling over."

The Trash Level rep adds -
"A little more of a tilt and water will start pouring down into my area, too. Are we going to evacuate?"

"Right now, thats the plan," says the Overlord, Alicia. "I believe our mages have a plan to blast a clearing in that obnoxious jungle."

"We'll have to move fast," says someone else. "Potentially we could lose a lot of people. Thousands."

Everyone at the table looks tense, and worried. Even Lady Solara, hugging her black dragon shawl tightly around her.
At one point she steps up between Onrad and Gareth and says quietly -
"Well, well, so the cavalry's arrived, has it?" But her usual manner with the Storm Dragons isn't as abrasive as usual. Her heart's just not in it.

Going off everyone's faces, this looks bad. Especially when the ground lurches slightly underfoot, and a metal goblet slides off the table and clatters to the ground.

We should also see if it helps tomove everyone toward the highest side of the city. Maybe theweight will slow the tilt. Any idea what's causing the city to tilt? Nonam?".

She soon finds herself back at the Star Mage Guild and in one of thier workshops.

DIRT CITY BOARD

PLATEAU CITY -

Plans are laid to settle the problem of the rising river, with Myrridan's expertise in the mix, folks are confident that the problem will be solved. However, because of the logistics of moving water from out of the city and letting it flow to the plateaus below, the solution is likely to take a little time, so as not to take a problem from one area and simply dump it in another.
In the meantime, word has gone out to the citizens to cope as best they can - evacuate, move to dwellings above the city wall line, etc etc.
Already, boats appear to be THE only transport about town. The mood in the city, despite the water, appears resilient. Folk have taken on a tough stance. 'We'll get through it' glimmers in the eye of adult and child alike.
Over at the Star Tower, various spells fly about to protect the Towers contents and staff, who are busy carrying things up to the upper floors.
The atmosphere is a little chaotic, maybe a bit too chaotic for Cori's work right now, or maybe not.

At the castle, Flabersham and the rest of the staff are busy moving things upstairs.

FLOATING CITY -

Everyone nods their head in agreement with Gareth's
assessment about evacuating the City.
As for what's causing it -
"Step outside and take a look," offers Nonam.

The Palace balcony presents a grand view of the Open Air Level, the surrounding lake, and on the nearest bank, the City's brooding, fractious neighbour - the Crying Woods.

The Woods look more alive than they've ever been - greener, taller, vibrant and empowered. And here lies the problem.
From this point can be seen two, maybe three, fat long cables of green - MASSIVE vines - that are stretched out from the treeline to somewhere in the City below.

The floor of the Palace gives another lurch. There's a heavy crashing sound from somewhere below, and the sound of hundreds of people screaming.
Everyone in the dining room grabs on to something, and the Overlord's eyes hold a definite plea. Help?

Nonam says he's off to help blast a hole in the undergrowth on the bank, to create a place for the evacuees. He looks like he might enjoy it too, not exactly being the jungle's biggest fan.
Off he goes.

"Can we not cut through them or blast them with magic?".

Mordrid
Wednesday June 1st, 2005 5:34:19 PM

Mordrid says into his ear-piece for all the dragons to note.

"Im standing at Gold Castle gate knee deep in water, and I was thinking. Anyone notice that anything Tucree is not functioning properly. I can't stand it any longer. I'm going to try and find the valley that leads to lady Maab."

Mordrid casts longstrider on himself and activates his armor of the celestial battalion. Taking flight he heads southwest towards the ancient Tucree gateway in the Valley that the Golds discovered many years ago. This time he prays that it is not defended again by Maab's dragon.

Once he reaches the magical highway (are the highways functioning properly?) on the plateau, he will land.
Mordrid begins doubling, tripling, etc., his speed until his health can handle it no longer. Everytime he drops a plateau he will take flight to better see the lay of the land below.

If she needs she will use her own magic to dry up the water and then use more magic to stop the water from entering into the lab.

I am not sure what floor the labs would be in exactly. If on the bottom floor then she will spend time as I stated above otherwise, she will start slowly.

The discussion over at Dirt City appears to be concluded, and a strange artifact - a skin-covered book is acquired.

PLATEAU CITY -

Questions have been raised, answers need to be found. And so amidst the chaos, Mordrid the Bounty Hunter rises up and sets off. A veteran of old battles and the journeys involved, he has a good idea where some of those answers may lie.

Unbeknown to him, the Hamleteers are about to embark on a similar journey.

The City and the plateau's beyond sweep past. Below are Myrridan and some of the other citizens, toiling away in an effort to funnel the excess water out of the City which, right now appears to be working.
The safe and magical highways are in full operation, and he's well on his way to his destination as some of the others arrive back from Dirt City.

FLOATING CITY -

It soon becomes clear that all magical means to stop the giant vines have been tried. Those trying to cut them have been captured, strangled by offshoots, and left dangling in a horrific and grisly manner. Everything is too big, and too overwhelming. Right now it seems the only way to move forward is to come up with a plan to get everyone off the Float as quickly as possible. The longer it is left alone, the more people will be crushed, flung about, drowned and otherwise killed.

Ultimately, the solution appears to be finding a way to quieten the jungle, but the immediate threat to the population looms large.

Onrad
Thursday June 2nd, 2005 8:42:24 PM

Hearing Mordrid's plan of action, Onrad thinks for a second.

Onrad activates his ring in reply.

"My heart is here in the Big Float. However, Mordrid is right. This appears to be a Continent wide situation. PCity, FCity, Dirt City. Someone or something is attacking cities!"

"We must find out who!"

"We need to explore every source of information that we have. Valdor, how about broadcasting something to the adventuring groups like during the YOA? Just a thought.

We need advice from Gods friends. Maab is a great idea. Who else would know something? Myr this seems to be nature, is there a big nature guru....even higher than you we can seek out?

"Gareth, Jandar, I don't see us finding out anything here. So I'm taking off to transport our stuff from the Tilting Manor to the Flooding Castle. Let me know when you're ready to leave. I"ll come get ya."

Once Gareth and Jandar make their decisions, Onrad returns to the manor house and starts teleporting stuff back thanking Jandor for his help with his bag of holding.

Plus, I'll check on you from time to time to make sure that thing doesn't possess you or something."

Mordrid continues his search for the gate to the Fae Lands in the southwest. When he finds the gate, he will inform the group and send word to the Hamleteers of its exact location, as well as a warning that time is critical; Plateau City is flooding. If nothing turns up he will begin heading NW towards Culverwood Forest. Apparently there is an army forming? What can be learned there?

DM Jan
Sunday June 5th, 2005 1:27:16 AM

The next few days prove to be tough - bone tiring, energy draining, callous building, tough.
Scattered as they are, the Dragons find themselves immersed completely and humbly in the troubles of the Wold. Nature is alight, abounding and rejoicing with an energy the Wold could never hope to contain.
The balance has shifted. The wakening of the Fae King has brought forth a power that must have slept alongside him, quite content in it's slumber, wild and eager now it has awakened.

Now there is too much. Life pours over garden walls, chokes drains, flowers incessently, until pathways are ankle deep in petals. Trees grow taller and broader, their roots lifting houses and roads alike.
Creatures pick up the vibe. Flocks of birds wheel frantically in the sky, herds become erratic along with their wilder cousins. Folk are thrown off their horse, bitten by their dog, pecked at sharply by their pet parrot. Nothing wants to sleep. Everything alive, to some degree, feels the power, thrumming under their feet, drifting into their soul.
Tempers fray, fights break out. Healers are beseiged by folk with headaches and anxiety, who can no longer cope with this wild world around them.

In charge of moving belongings between one city and another, Onrad is hit with obstacle after obstacle, despite both Flabersham and Mitchum's help. Things take much longer than expected and drain the duellist of energy. Also, some of the things teleported have carried hitchhikers - spores and seeds from the jungle, cast by the lake breeze, embedded in clothes and furniture. How will they fare in this new place?

Dahlia finds a harried Correll over in Dirt City, concerned by current events.

PLATEAU CITY -

The mighty Dragonstone finds himself in a production line of ordinary folk, working hard to shore up the riverside section of the Shanty Quarter with sandbags - working until fingers split and crack, and arms feel like they're about to drop off.

Myrridan and those others pitting both brawn and brain against the rising tide, fight a battle of their own. Once they think they have it figured, along comes more water. There is always more water. It becomes hard to keep going and not get demoralized. They're doing good, slowing the flow, buying time, but for how long?

Cori's work, though progressing, is continually interrupted. Occasionally her help is needed for one thing or another - out on the streets, or in yet another conference trying to figure out exactly what is going on.

Nick and Tericus are called upon contstantly by the Cathedral of Light. There's a line curved right around the block and doubling back across the river - a rag tag bunch of injured citizens and their half drowned, dog-bitten children.

And The Book?
After it's blistering display of the prophecy over in Izen, it sits here in Plateau City - quiet, brooding, wrapped in it's skin cover. It's pages right now are obscure and difficult to read, but touching it's pages brings forth a mixture of profound evil - the kind of evil only Marteaus could breed - and a promise.
There are secrets here.... come closer....

FLOATING cITY (anyone over at the Float?) -

Wizards and mages start to clear a section of the jungle and the evacuation starts to take place. People are dying here. Despite heroes of every stature doing all they can - people are dying.
There's a call for turtle handlers, as folk are ferried out of harm's way. The City now stands at a 15 degree tilt.

EDENMOOR/CULVERWOOD -

West of Edenmoor, Mordrid finds the Valley of Humiliation and the site of the Gate. It seems quiet out there, unnaturally so, the pathways to Maab's realm hidden but obvious, to someone who had taken the journey before.
His message to the Hamleteers is delivered at all speed.

North, on the southern edge of Culverwood, Parnoth's topiaries, gardens and clipped pathways eventually give way to the wild magic of Culverwood. The forest carries a different atmosphere. Already magic and having a will of it's own, there is a feeling of internal struggle in here.
Entering from the north east edge, there is indeed an army - just as the Hamleteers described. They appear to be making their way south, picking up magical creatures and tribes of elves on the way. What do they know? Perhaps a chat with their leaders would settle that question.

I fear that no matter how hard we work...no matter how many spells are cast...that this will not end until we stop the source of it all. If that means killing this 'Fae King', or at least putting him back to sleep, then so be it. We meet in the Castle in one hour.

It is time to end this madness. Join me."

Be fore he leaves, he shouts,"You are all braver than anyone would have given you credit for! You have shown more courage than any nobleman could have dreamed possible. Stand firm and keep fighting for your homes. We have beaten worse than bad weather before. We beat a God himself, in the form of Marteaus and his hordes of evil creatures. I go to collect the rest of my group, now called Platinum Dragons because we are joined as one both Gold and Storm Dragons...to find a way to end this. I do not abandon you, else I wouldn't have come at all. We seek to end whatever is causing this disaster. Be strong and have COURAGE!"

He raises his fist in the air, hoping he's given them a bit of a boost in morale and a new hope where one didn't exist before and then heads back to the castle at as fast a run as he can muster through the waters and crowds.

DIRT CITY -

Distracted as he was, Suran Corell, Prince of Thieves, readily accepts Dahlia's explanation about the Book and the Dragons dashing off with it. Privately perhaps, he's relieved but certainly not about to admit such a thing. In this town a tough mask was everything, and he had one tougher than most, honed and strengthened by dealing with the Houses day after day.
He IS aware that something 'big' is happening. In fact the City grapevine is seething with prophecy gossip and the like, and - ambitious as always - both personally and on behalf of his City, he asks Dahlia that if anything major were afoot, then Dirt City would like to be in on it. The promise of troops and support are fed by the fact that he's itching for Dirt City to become a major political player along with Plateau City, the Float etc.

EMERALD KINGDOM -

Mordrid is escorted out of town and up to Parnoth's lair by a much baffled and jittery Mop - the green dragon's right hand man, his usual superciliousness replaced by a guarded over-polite behaviour.
The fact that the ranger is greeted by Parnoth in humanoid form, and not having to suffer the usual grandiose dragon fear/kneel before me and tremble parlava, suggests that the mighty dragon is also on his guard.
Still, appearances had to be kept up to some point.
"What are that rabble doing in my forest?" booms Parnoth, jabbing the ornamental metallic claw that serves for a hand these days, in a vaguely north direction.
It is right then, that Valdor's voice sounds off in Mordrid's ear.

PLATEAU CITY -

The Book us used to playing with lesser minds than that of Tericus. The cleric spends an infuriating time delving into the Books innards. Text appears and disappears on the fleshy pages, and protected as he is, Tericus is still able to sense spells at work - enchantments - so completely opposite to spells of his own that they could only be Marteaus-empowered.
Then - one afternoon, the artifact stops trying to persuade Tericus to commit all kinds of atrocities in Marteaus's name. One of the pages, a green, tattered orc hide, becomes dark and translucent. Staring at it is like looking into the depths of a well.
At the bottom of it - is a man, dark-haired, a narrow mustache, scarred facial skin. He's looking out, with questions in his eyes. The eyes seem to scour the back of Tericus's skull.

The fae King. Tell me what you know.

At that point, the cleric hears Valdor over the communicator.

So do Nick, Dahlia and Onrad,, and so do Cori and Myrridan in the midst of more exhausting work. The druid's voice is hoarse and his clothes hang off him.

FLOATING CITY -
(Dave I'm assuming thats where Gareth is?)

Gareth helps get the guards mobilized and organized. It's harrowing and dangerous work - frightened citizens, falling masonery, children not wanting to leave their dead parents.
Flashes of lightning and fire explode on one side of the City as all magical attempts are made to destroy the giant vines that have got such a grip on the city walls.
Limited successes only make the structure lurch, shaking more of the internal structure loose, and the vines appear to behave like hydra heads - chop one off and ten smaller ones take their place and start to grow.
There is some success at getting an area cleared at the forest's edge, although guards have to be placed at the clearing's edges to fend off the indigenous giant beetles that arrive to chow down on the blasted foliage.
The Overlord is still to be evacuated, choosing to wait until everyone else is safely off.
This particular afternoon has been productive, with barge-loads of folk making it to the shore.

Then - one of the scouts comes running out of the trees, yelling for help. In the background, it looks as though the very trees are moving. Something massive approaches.
At that point, Gareth hears Valdor over the communicator.

Information about the Fae King recieved so far:

From the Hamleteers -
news that perhaps Maab knows how to rein Ebyron in; that Ebyron was reborn in a mighty Woldian forest; that he looks like a satyr; that a mighty creature army, bouyed up by the emerging power of nature, is after Parnoth

From the Book in Dirt City -

Yet foiled he was by enchanted sleep
A recipe known by Ma'ab to keep
Sharp writ sure with memory pure
Secret hidden in enchanted lure

The fact that some groups af adventurers have come from afar to deliver news, suggests they will not be alone. Perhaps more is forthcoming.
The Hamleteers have been given the task of seeking an audience with Maab.

Tericus
Tuesday June 7th, 2005 7:37:16 PM

facinated by the picture in the book, Tericus hears Valdor's speech, but is concentrated on the picture and says "I know not a thing of the Fae King except that it is rumored that he is reborned and seeks the death of the ruler of the emerald kingome. What do you know of him?"

Corialote
Tuesday June 7th, 2005 9:52:49 PM

Cori looks to Myrradin and nods her head in understanding. "Will we be meeting in that room that we appeared in earlier?" If she gets a reply from Myrradin that that is where they will meet than she smiles.

She closes her eyes and calls upon the what little power she has left to open a portal into that very room. "I do not feel like walking all that way and my magic is mostly spent." With a wane smile and a haggared look she enters the portal but only after Myrradin has went in first.

Valdor
Wednesday June 8th, 2005 12:45:32 AM

Valdor wades his way through elements and people and arrives back at the castle. When there, he asks for some fresh water and fruit. He decides to check in on Tericus and see if he's okay and what he has found out. He moves silently, using his old thieving abilities and stands outide the door, listening to make sure he doesn't disrupt a spell, or Tericus's concentration either. After a few moments, he silently opens the door and slowly moves in, to not disturb the cleric.

Gareth
Wednesday June 8th, 2005 8:37:48 AM

As news of something approaching the area where the citizenry of the Floating City is seeking refuge seeps in, the warrior activates his boots and flies to the clearing. "Valdor, there is something huge approaching from the forest towards the citizens of the Float. I must stay until I know what it is. I'll keep you posted.".

Nick
Wednesday June 8th, 2005 1:28:55 PM

Aware that Gareth isn't likely to be arriving soon due to whats going on at his location, Nick wonders where Valdor, Tericus and the others are.
To the returning Cori -
"Have you seen any of the others? I'll take a look around."

One of his stops will be Tericus's chamber.

Dahlia
Wednesday June 8th, 2005 5:02:43 PM

shaking her head in wonder at all the water, Dahlia passes the prince's message on to Valdor when he show's back up.

Myrridan
Wednesday June 8th, 2005 8:54:09 PM

Myrridan, near exhaustion, also enters the portal that Corialote so graceously opened for the two of them. "Thank you, Corialote. Im not sure I had the breath to speak the words myself," chuckles Myrridan with a smile.

EMERALD KINGDOM -

Pending...
Mordrid is here, talking to Parnoth.

PLATEAU cITY -

Valdor, Tericus, Nick, Dahlia, Cori, Onrad, Myyridan are here.

The voice inside Tericus's head carries a conversational tone, as if it's owner were stood at a carriage stop along with the cleric, and both men were discussing the news to while away the time. Tericus feels no direct threat, despite the compelling eyes. The face in the book looks familiar, perhaps from a drawing, or a painting.

Hmmmm. Interesting. I must admit I haven't had the pleasure of meeting him. Yet. What is the extent of his power?

Valdor opens the door quietly. For some reason it seems darker in here. Not pitch black, but gloomy, like the far end of twilight. Over by the window a climbing jasmine is starting to wither and die. A green light is glowing from an open page in the Book before Tericus, giving the cleric an ill palor.
Evil strikes the senses in many ways, and here it comes on the sweet dying scent of the jasmine - overpowering and rotten to the core.

Anyone looking in the book - unless a character has already met him -
KNOWLEDGE-RELIGION CHECK DC 14 Highlight to display spoiler: { Marteaus }

The scent carries out of the door and along the corridor, alerting any of the others who may be approaching.

FLOATING CITY -

Gareth is here.

Gareth's boots carry him swiftly across the lake. Below him now on the shore, people have stopped what they are doing and are staring toward the jungle's edge.
Thud.
Thud.
Thud.
It's a slow march, getting louder. It even sounds heavy. Even though the warrior hasn't a foot on the ground, he knows that it'll be trembling at everyone of those steps. But steps that herald what?
About 50ft away from his viewpoint, he can see 5 particular treetops moving forward, brushing past their static bretheren, and heading toward the clearing.
In an instant, everyone below starts screaming at once and breaks into a run back to the boats.

Corialote
Wednesday June 8th, 2005 11:12:07 PM

Cori glances to Myrradin and gives him a smile as she enters in after him. As she exits she shakes her head. "I belive that you could have done just fine with the spell...but it was nice to be able to do that again." You may have noticed earlier that she actually takes great delight in her magic...the closeness of it thrills her.

She smiles to Nick as he appears and shakes her head. "I only know where Myrridan is at." She points to him where she stands and snickers at Nick. What has the cleric so occupied that he could miss this man. She shakes her head as the raven on her shoulder leans in close to her ear. "Mistress...do not forget your work at the tower." Cori shudders as she knows that she may not get back to it this day.

Mordrid
Thursday June 9th, 2005 12:00:23 AM

Mordrid hear's Valdor's call in his ear, however he is in audience with Parnoth. Just a second longer before he makes it known to the green lord that he is being paged...

"My soveriegn lord of the Emerald Kingdom... (Mordrid bows deeply) I was hoping that you could tell ME who this rabble is that enters your forest. As the highest ranking ranger in the realm, you know I always have my ear to the ground. I find it disturbing that something 'unknown' comes from the North. The terra whispers that whatever it is wants you. You must share with me what you know. I will deliver your news to the east and see what treaties may hold sway over the situation."

Mordrid makes no reference to the dire straights that his home land is in.

Valdor
Thursday June 9th, 2005 12:07:51 AM

Watching Tericus and then hearing Gareth, Valdor has to shake his head to clear out the cobwebs. He says quietly to Tericus,"What is Marteaus doing inside a book? Geez, he gets uglier every time I see him, but enough of that. There's an emergency in Floating City and I think they may need our help there. We need to go help your friends there and quickly. I leave as soon as everyone's down there. Take a break from your study my friend and come with us."

He heads out of the room and says into his earring,"Everyone, there's trouble outside Floating City and I think that's where we're needed most right now. We leave in five minutes. Meet in the War Room. Gareth, we're on our way. Where are you now in the city?"

He hastily slips on his armor like it's a second skin, snatches his weapons, and heads downstairs to the War Room to await the others.

Tericus
Thursday June 9th, 2005 7:04:16 AM

for a moment, Tericus is a bit irritated at Valdor for interupting, but it passes in an instant and he says "Yes, Valdor, ill be down in a moment." then, turning back to the book, Tericus says "I really dont know what his powers are currently. Thats something we both need to find out. And im sorry to be rude, but im needed elsewhere. Ill contact you again when I can." Tericus waits a few moments for a response, then he shuts the book and goes downstairs with Valdor

Gareth
Thursday June 9th, 2005 11:23:58 AM

The warrior smiles as the treants approach. He kicks himself because he failed to remember to contact them. Perhaps they can help calm the forest? He flies down and stands near the clearing edge between the citizens and the treants with his sword sheathed. He informs the city guard that these are most likely allies and to refrain from any hostile actions. He makes sure they work on calming the populace and preventing a panic.

Nick
Thursday June 9th, 2005 6:36:21 PM

Approaching Tericus's chamber, Nick sees Valdor leaving, closely followed by Tericus.

"What was that smell?" he asks, quite baffled, before dashing off to get ready.
He'll be in the War Room in 5 minutes.

EMERALD KINGDOM -

Parnoth lets out a satisfied "Hrmph..", in full approval of Mordrid's demeanor toward him, and listens to what the ranger has to say.
"We have had dreams here in the Kingdom," he answers. "Visions and portents that have tried to, unsuccessfully I might add, drive us all mad. And to whom do we owe all this madness? The elves! That's who!
"Anarchists and disrupters, every single one of them. They should be the enemy of all who seek a civilized, well-ordered life. If left to them, the entire Wold would be a wild, terrible place, and home for no one but themselves.
"For years they've tried to thwart me, meddling in Culverwood, sticking their nose into my affairs. And now - they're trying to kill me! Culverwood has run amok! And I'm told that this, this - druid-led motley band of creatures wants to seek me out and punish me for my wicked ways.
"Me! The only thing standing between them and annihilation! It's preposterous! Don't they know what lives to the south of us? Are they that stupid? Not to mention what will happen if they dare to attack me. Heh!
"And of course we all know who's put them up to it. Those damnable elves! Drunk with their dreams of this Fae creature. Fae, fae, fae, that's all I'm hearing about these days.
"But where is he, eh? No one seems to know where this Fae is."

The dragon pauses, and his eyes sweep over Mordrid, not missing a trick, and there lies the question unsaid - Do you know where he is?

"If he's so powerful, why doesn't he come out and face us?"

Parnoth is clearly outraged, a sentiment laced with his usual paranoia, and a tiny but potent dose of fear. It becomes obvious to Mordrid that a storm is brewing in the Emerald Kingdom. One that could end badly, bloodshed being only the half of it.

PLATEAU cITY -

Tericus hears a mild sigh of disappointment in his head.
Very well, when you know - please tell me.
The image fades, and no sooner is the book closed, then the room brightens considerably, and the climbing jasmine stops its shrivelling.

Was that an all-seeing, all-powerful, all-knowing God? Asking questions?

Valdor gives the rallying call, and a trip to the Big Float looks to be in the offing. Cori's work, part- finished, looks like it might take a little longer.

FLOATING CITY -

Gareth stands at the clearing edge, awaiting the treants. A young man walks up and stands beside him.
"Hello. Remember me?"
Axanor the young druid greenmage grins, his white hair no longer spiky but tucked into a single braid. Part of his hair is still streaked green however, and he's still as skinny as the last time Gareth saw him, when the Storm Dragons first ventured into the jungle for the first ever exploration.
Both men can feel the -
Thud

- of approach, which stops abruptly.
"I've only met one treant before," says Axanor nervously, "so this will be a treat for me."
Ahead, in the trees, about 50ft away - there is movement. But not trees. Vaguely humanoid shapes appear and disappear as they work their way through the dense foliage. One of the shapes breaks cover and makes a beeline for two young boys stood gawking at the forest.
The creature is a weird purple colour, and looks to be vaguely orcish, and it doesn't seem to be at all friendly.
"Circle of Eldar!" exclaims the shocked Axanor. "That looks like a Wortling! Oh no, Gareth it's not Treants.."

Corialote
Thursday June 9th, 2005 11:17:07 PM

Cori shakes her head as the call to the warroom is called for, she sighs. "Sorry Amarath...that experiment will have to wait a little longer." The raven rubs his wing against the side of her face and chuckles in answer. "Yes...but you love the excitement...something new for us both." Cori has to smile as her companion knows her better than sometimes she knows herself. "Yes...you are right of course...my life had gotten a little boring." She takes off to the warroom with a slight skip in her step.

She will greet anyone that is already there and take a seat as she waits. Amarath preens his black feathers, that are streaked through with light amounts of purple. On the underside of the right wing is a purple rose emblazoned upon the underfeathers.

Valdor
Friday June 10th, 2005 12:06:27 AM

Valdor paces the floor, wondering where Myrridan and Mordrid are. He makes one last communication and says,"Myrridan, Mordrid, where are you guys? We've got to get moving. If you can't make it, just tell me and we'll head out without you."

He glances at Tericus to see if he's okay. He knows Marteaus is only out for himself and a cleric of Alemi conversing with the evil God cannot be a good thing.

Gareth (Flying)  d20+38=41 d10+19=29
Friday June 10th, 2005 7:34:52 AM

The warrior smiles to Alexar as he joins him. "Growing up a bit I see... it's good to see you again my friend. Any ideas as to what is going on in the forest?".

As the purple thing breaks the tree cover and heads for the boys, the warrior moves instantly to intercept it. Drawing his sword he immediately engages it to prevent the deaths of the two poor foolish youths. He bellows out "Run, boys - run!". He attacks the thing with Max striking him with a fairly strong, but poorly executed blow. (Hit AC 41, 29 DMG). He keeps himself between the boys and the creature as they hopefully run towards the shore.

"Valdor, we are engaged in battle - just so you know...".

Tericus
Friday June 10th, 2005 10:09:01 AM

Taking the book with him, Tericus goes downstairs and waits with Valdor for the others. Seeing Valdor look at him, Tericus says, "I'm ok. Alemi is with me."

Mordrid
Friday June 10th, 2005 10:43:56 AM

Mordrid hears Valdor once more in the ear-piece. The ranger activates the ear-piece as he continues his conversation with Parnoth; now all should be able to listen and know where the ranger is at.

Mordrid looks troubled, "This is most unsettling news your highness. I was hoping that you would have answers. I assure you; I do not know where the Fae King is, however every knight of the realm is in search for him. We too have noticed the presence of the Fae King, and it is in our best interest to convince him to stop what he is doing."

"A word of warning your highness," Mordrid braces himself, as dragon's do not receive warnings well. "Our scouts have reported that the Fae King is forming an army to destroy you. The army gathers now to the north. I would not count on your subjects rallying to defend you. However, if you turn your wrath against your own subjects, I can assure you that no help will come from the east to aid you. If you turn on your subjects... I assure you that the Dragon Stone will be here to seek justice."

Mordrid bows again, "Any news of the Fae King I will share with you. You will return the favor I beg of you. I am now off. I hope to scout the Fae King leading the army to the North. Now if I may be excused your highness."

Mordrid requests to be excused.

Valdor
Saturday June 11th, 2005 12:00:18 AM

The large warrior smiles his appreciation of Tericus and nods, feeling much better now.

Valdor listens to Mordrid's conversation and figures out quickly who he is addressing. He grins when he uses a veiled threat and mentions him in it.

He says quietly, "Are you returning now or going on to scout, Mordrid?"

Nick
Monday June 13th, 2005 11:36:18 AM

Nick enters the war room. He gives Tericus, and what his fellow cleric of Alemi is carrying, a second glance, but keeps his own counsel for now.
Listening to the exchange between Mordrid and Parnoth has him worried. They really didn't need a battle out there right now, not with all this going on.

DM Jan
Monday June 13th, 2005 11:49:30 AM

EMERALD KINGDOM -

There are two beats of uneasy silence, and during that time a number of emotions flash across the great dragon's eyes.
"ANY creature," asserts Parnoth, "who values life on this flat earth will always rise up and defend itself, and in that respect I am no different.
"Creatures knocking on my door with the worst intent will be given the appropriate reception. I WILL NOT just sit here. Dragon Stone or no. As for turning on my own subjects - BAH. A ruler's subjects are part of his riches. Of course, should they be confused with the opposite side -"
The dragon gets a sly look, and his voice lowers a pitch.
"Obviously the Dragon Stone is concerned. Perhaps HIS words will hold sway with that rabble out there."
Mordrid feels the ball bounce firmly into the Platinum Dragons court.
Parnoth shrugs. "As for this Fae King. If I have news, then certainly, you will know of it. This I will say. Do not trust the Fae. They play by their own rules. Now, you may attend to your own business. I shall attend to mine. I will send riders toward this army, warning them to desist in this pointless exercise."

PLATEAU CITY -

The Platinum Dragons get ready to move out. It seems that The Book is also ready, snug under Tericus's arm, as though it has always belonged there.

FLOATING CITY -

Those foolish youths don't need to be told twice, and break into a run toward the shore.
Amidst the renewed roar of panic, Gareth's sword Max bites into the flesh of the purple orc-thing. Max's senses register surprise. This is not flesh. Or bone. It's like chopping into a giant red cabbage.
Skewered, the creature makes a horrid, hoarse screeching sound and tries to land out with a fist. It misses on this occasion.

Axanor has stepped up behind Gareth.
"These come from a thing called an 'Orcwort'!" exclaims the greenmage. "It's a giant tree thing that swallows people. These wortlings will be out to capture prey and take it back to the tree. There's bound to be more of them!"

And sure enough. Dozens of these purple Wortlings suddenly break into the clearing and begin to chase down the evacuees.
The screaming begins in earnest.

20ft away, a group of rough-looking half orcs, armed with shovels and pikes are facing the oncoming menace and are looking to Gareth for direction.

Gareth (Flying)  d20+42=55 d20+37=43 d20+32=52 d20+27=42 d20+42=56 d10+25=27 d10+25=33 d10+25=26 d10+25=34 d10+25=27
Monday June 13th, 2005 6:38:53 PM

The warrior directs the half-orcs to form a line barrier between the wortlings and the evacuees. He looks to the mages in the area for support as well as the guard. He also calls into his ring and tells the Overlord of their plight - which all the Dragons should hear. He then begins to dissect the cabbage thing one limb at a time (Hit AC 55,43,52,42,[56] for 27+33+26+34+27=147 DMG).

Onrad
Monday June 13th, 2005 8:15:16 PM

Wish Myrradin was available. He'd be a big help to the Floating City right now. Onrad says, I must go help Gareth now that our stuff is here. Anyone else?

Once he gathers all who will come, he teleports to the piers of the Floating City and looks for the shore and a boat to get him there.

Myrridan  d20+30=44
Monday June 13th, 2005 9:24:38 PM

"Wha ... what's going on?" Myrridan still in a exhausted stupor reels around looking in all directions. Not only does he hear Valdor, but the voices of Mordrid and a few others. But what is that slithering sound that keeps nagging him? "Am I going mad?!" (Will save 44) Gaining his senses after grabing onto a piece of furniture, he replies into his earpiece. "Yes ... uhh, what is it you ask?"

(Finally, my computer is working again. I should be able to post now. Thanks for being patient.)

Valdor
Monday June 13th, 2005 10:30:39 PM

Valdor responds to Myrridan,"We're off to the Big Float. You joining us? We've got to leave now! You have one minute, my friend. There's a battle going on and we're needed. You coming or no?"

He places the ring of teleportation on his hand and passes it to the others present while they wait for Myrridan.

Tericus
Tuesday June 14th, 2005 6:52:25 AM

Taking the ring from Valdor, Tericus puts it on then passes it on to the next person.

Dahlia
Tuesday June 14th, 2005 7:34:23 AM

Stepping up to take hold of the ring, Dahlia checks her gear and gives Onrad a purple-eyed wink.

"Don't worry too much about your friend, if he can't hold out til we get there he probably isn't worth it." My luck, we'll get their and there will be nothing left for me to kill."

Mordrid
Tuesday June 14th, 2005 10:48:20 AM

Mordrid is quickly walking down the dark tiled corridor leading out of Parnoth's throne room; the ranger's long strides accent his discouragement. Parnoth was just as in the dark as everyone else.

Ear-piece: "guys I'm on my way. I have no magical transportation. So I must journey by foot. Unless anyone can come get me. I will meet you at the tree of parting."

Mordrid makes all haste along the southern edge of Culverwood heading east toward the Tree of Parting. The ranger has no clue where the Floating City is geographically anymore. Once he arrives at The Tree of Parting he will check to see if anyone at the inn can teleport.

Corialote
Tuesday June 14th, 2005 1:05:32 PM

Cori takes the ring and then passes it on as well. With a side glance to her raven she gives a slight smile as her eyes flash. The raven cocks his head and seems to sigh. "That look can only mean trouble...just don't let me get into a lot of it this time....why me." The last the raven says a lot quieter than normal though he does seem to have an odd look in his own bird eyes.

Cori looks to Valdor and then to the others. "Any idea what we are looking at?" She cycles through her spells that she has left after trying to help out around the city.

Spell list to come minus a few spells to show her work in saving Plateau City. :)

Nick
Tuesday June 14th, 2005 4:27:26 PM

Nick touches the teleportation ring passed around by Valdor, and waits patiently for everyone to gather.
He shrugs at Cori. "There are creatures running out of the trees attacking the citizens, by all accounts," he says after listening to Gareth over the earpiece. "Sounds a bit chaotic."

DM Jan
Tuesday June 14th, 2005 5:14:00 PM

EMERALD KINGDOM -

Parnoth's wheedling emissary, Mop, who has an apparent uncanny sense of hearing, gives chase to the departing ranger.
"We can offer teleportation, if you need it," he says, which sounds a much better deal than a hard ride out to the tree of parting. Certainly quicker at any rate.
For some reason, best known to Mop and Parnoth, the teleport will place Mordrid down the side alley next to Ansalom's Chess Club and Bakeshop, on Chess Street, on the Barracks level of the Floating City.

PLATEAU CITY -

Immediately following the teleport spell there's an abrupt, percussive *WHAP* of air inside the War Room of Gold Dragon castle, that throws open the War Room door.
Flabersham and Mitchum, in conversation about what to put where in the upper rooms of the castle, glance at the door and the now empty room beyond, then go about their business. The Dragons are gone from here.

FLOATING CITY -

Valdor's teleport ring travelers arrive on the uppermost, Open Air level, outside the Palace. It's unusually quiet here, but the distant sounds of screams and panic can be heard coming from the shoreline, and from below. The tilt is now at 15 degrees. The Overlord's Palace looks intact. In the middle distance, it looks as though part of the Black Dragon's castle wall has fallen down.

Onrad's teleport ring travelers land them on the Fence level, at the dockside, and right bang smack in the midst of a milling throng of panicing citizens, all pushing to get off the tilted-at-an-angle City. Here there are a lot more signs of structure collapse, children crying and the occasional fisticuffs. If there's anything else going on, right now it's being drowned out by the cacophony on the quayside.
The far end of the dock is submerged beneath the water of the lake.

The Barracks level, one floor up from the Fence level, is completely deserted when Mordrid arrives, only moments after the others. Everyone has either 'jumped ship', or is helping out with the evacuation. There are signs of building collapse here, also - and already vines are creeping over the rubble.

On the shore -
On Gareth's instructions, the Trash level half-orc 'refuse engineers' fan out to meet the oncoming purple horde.
Max makes short work of the creature before him and it drops, utterly and completely coleslawed. Another group of adventurers arrives and gets into position, and some of the other evacuees, willing to turn around and fight, start looking for weapons.

Right now, it's not enough. There are dozens of these things creeping out of the trees, then dashing in a flat-out run toward folks who are trying their best to run in the opposite direction.
One of them grabs a baby, whose mother starts to scream.
Other creatures have also grabbed some of the citizens and are heading back into the trees.
"Need to find out where the tree hosts are!" yells Axanor. The young greenmage begins to shift shape, becoming smaller, and sprouting feathers.

Valdor
Tuesday June 14th, 2005 11:07:07 PM

After arriving, Valdor gets himself oriented for a second, as it's been a few years since he's been here, and then, finally establishing where the beaches lie, activates his Boots of Speed and heads off at a dead sprint. After a round has passed, he doubles, and continues extending his speed to the point of exhaustion.

Myrridan (ac 43, hp171, wildshape: huge greater air elemental)
Wednesday June 15th, 2005 12:51:15 AM

Myrridan gathers together what little strength he has and responds to Valdor's call by arriving to be teleported with the others.

When they arrive, Myrridan tries his best to take in the situation. This is one of the few places he hasn't been. How strange, he thinks. But the cries of the paniced crowds quickly drive those thoughts from his head. Following the greenmage, Myrridan disolves into swirling air and races up and out toward the shore. (movement 100', perfect flight.)

Wednesday June 15th, 2005 7:00:25 AM

Tericus will follow Valdor's path to the beach, though since he knows the way he goes at a much slower pace.

The druid eyes the waters below and gets an idea.

Valdor
Thursday June 16th, 2005 12:18:58 AM

Valdor keeps running.

Mordrid
Thursday June 16th, 2005 12:23:43 AM

Like the rest of the adventurers, he is looking for a quick route out of the city and to the beach.

Once he finds a window our open space he activates his armor and begins to fly; taking in the lay of the land he makes his way to the beach. Like the others, it has been years since he's been outside of the inns in this city. Once he arrives to the scene, he will orient himself near Valdor, but in the air.

Nick
Thursday June 16th, 2005 6:19:39 PM

"Cori, follow me," says Nick, "we need to get down a few levels, till we reach the docks. "Stick tight."

Nick will set off, down through the Gold level, the Merchant Level, the Barracks Level, and on to the Fence level, hopefully with the drow mage right behind him.

He's looking for a way through the chaos of people and to the dockside. The surrounding panic has him unnerved. Plateau City was bad enough - but this....

DM Jan
Thursday June 16th, 2005 6:29:43 PM

Valdor, Dahlia and Tericus end up at the dockside along with Onrad. If they're going across by boat, someone will have to pull rank. Nick and Cori are a few minutes behind. There's a throng at the quayside that is not taking no for an answer, as the turtlemen try and calm their water creatures and steady the barges as best they can.

Myrridan howls into the air and heads across toward the shore. He can see a pitch battle going on, on the shoreline, some purple things mixing it with the crowd, and beyond that - the treeline. Straight ahead of him, the young greenmage Axanor, rises into the air and sets off beyond the treeline, with the intention of flying over the trees.

Mordrid finds a tilted arched window and takes to the skies. Below he can hear the chaos on the Fence level. To one side of him, he can see the huge, monsterous vines that are wrapped about the City superstructure, attempting to pull the City right over.

On the shore, Gareth sees two of the purple orc-like creature things. Not stupid, they've seen their cut down brother and are aiming to avoid him and go after easier prey.
Right above him, Axanor, in hawk form is about to set off and scout behind the treeline.

Dahlia
Friday June 17th, 2005 7:51:16 AM

Looking down at the others, Dahlia quickly asks, "Any of you able to fly over? I can carry one of you although it won't be pretty and it won't be a terribly swift trip."

Valdor
Saturday June 18th, 2005 1:15:55 AM

Valdor says,"We can teleport over there. Time is of all importance right now. Let's head back to Cori and Nick. I've seen where we're going and can hit it now."

He heads back, if everyone wants to go also until they reach Nick and Cori. As they go, he exchanges the ring with each. He's obviously mad and wants to kill something and quickly.

The warrior closes in on the orc likething that is having the most success in geting to someone. He attempts to cut them down quickly. If he is able to close withmore than one ofthem he attempts to disable them as opposed to necessarily killing them so he can take down more of them before they close with someone (e.g. cut a leg off, etc). Mordrid
Sunday June 19th, 2005 4:10:25 PM

After taking in the scene, Mordrid begins to fly onward to the far shoreline.

"Brothers and sisters, I have arrived on the scene. Look for me arriving from the sky."

Dahlia
Sunday June 19th, 2005 5:25:10 PM

Joining the others, Dahlia flies across to the combat.

Sunday June 19th, 2005 8:23:04 PM

Nick looks out for Valdor and the others as he makes his way quickly toward the docks, hopefully with Cori right behind him.
They had to be somewhere in this mess. If he spots them - he'll attract their attention by waving.

((Woah! Okay, lets get back on track. Apologies to Kent, Jim and David for lagging behind a bit - missed you at Woldcon. We nearly had a full team! :) ))

Valdor, Dahlia and Onrad start to work their way back away from the dockside, but after about 20 yards, they see Tericus, Nick and Cori rushing down to meet them.
A few moments and a bit of shoving and pushing through the crowd, and they're together and ready to teleport.
(SPOT CHECK for you 6 characters, please)

In the air -

Mordrid is now about 50 yards away from the shoreline and has a good bird's eye view of whats going on.
There's a seething mass of people right on the shoreline, some of whom are trying to jump on the turtle-pulled barges; others are jumping straight into the water.
On land beneath their feet, foliage has either been flattened or obliterated in an effort to make a clearing. Approximately a 100yd x 70 yd area extends past the shoreline and toward the jungle. It's full of people (about 2000 of them) and stacks of their belongings.

The reason for the panic is obvious. They are under attack from a horde of purple orc-looking creatures, intent on grabbing any person they can find and carrying them back into the depths of the trees to who-knows-what fate.
He can see there are folk closer to the treeline, attempting to fend off these strange creatures, but their defensive line is nowhere near enough.
(Spot DC 16 to recognise Gareth over to the right, near the treeline.)

Myrridan is in elemental form, over land, on the edge of the tree line. Ahead, a small hawk is flying inward over the trees, and from here, not only has he seen what Mordrid sees, but he can see that the natural pattern of the jungle straight ahead of him looks odd. Definitely off-kilter.

Gareth is a lot closer to the ground, letting Max wield death and/or dismemberment to whoever crosses his path. He's just done two kills and two woundings, releasing four Floating citizens to the ground, who huddle together, scared out of their wits.
Oh, but there are more, and Max's eagerness cranks up the adrenalin.
Right now he can't see anything beyond the initial treeline where these horrible creatures seem to be taking their prey.

The warrior continues his attacks trying desperately to keep himself between the purple people eaters and their marks. He continues to cut and slash in an attempt to disable, maim, or kill them, leaving the others to clean up the mess. He draws his second sword and almost doubles his # of attacks (Hit AC 44,47,31,34,[49],38,28,34,{48} for 27+28+25+24+[30]+19+15+20+{25} DMG). [] = crit, {} = Cleave Feat - assuming he kills one.

Mordrid flies 90' (move action) further into the shoreline. When he spies the invadings orcs he casts "entangle" (40ft radius area for 210 rounds or 21 minutes). He centers the spell closer toward the jungle's edge, where the plant life has been less trampled by the Floating citizens. [PG-227 PHB]

This action is intended to keep the orcs from retreating with captured citizens, to keep additional orcs from entering the battle, and to entangle the orcs that happen to be within the spells area of effect.

Tuesday June 21st, 2005 1:58:42 AM

Back a little ways from the water's edge, Valdor's and Onrad's teleport rings tingle on their wearer's fingers as the rings power up.
A moment before everyone is whisked to the shore, both Dahlia and Tericus notice a slight female figure, dressed plainly, black hair braided in a long single braid, take a practiced and efficient high dive - off a huge pile of crates on the dockside, and into the water. In the time it takes for the rings to power up, she does not resurface. She looks vaguely familiar.

Whoosh!
For Valdor, Onrad, Tericus, Dahlia, Nick, and Cori, dockside clamour and hard stone is replaced by something softer underfoot and screams of a more desperate kind. They are now on shore.

70 yards ahead, across flattened undergrowth, is the tree line.
50 yards on either side (100yds in total) is a further expanse of flattened turf.
This 100 x 70 yard area is a mass of people, running about, mostly toward shore. Trying to get away from shifting purple shapes in the crowd. It's chaos. It's also possible to see that the purple vaguely-orc-humanoids appear to be grabbing folk and carrying them off, back into the trees.

Up ahead, Gareth can be seen in the distance, 25 yards from the extreme right of the clearing, hacking away for all he's worth. The warrior has downed a further 7 of the creatures. It's relatively easy work for Max, but satisfying nonetheless.

Up in the air, Mordrid activates his spell. At the edge of the treeline, and a little before it, 25 yards from the left of the clearing, the undergrowth seems to come alive, plants twisting and curling like a basket of eels, wrapping themselves around legs, and arms if they can reach.
8 of the purple-orc-things are entrapped, along with 6 Floating City citizens. For the moment, no one is going anywhere.
he can also see a small but determined group of half orcs, hacking away at the purple creatures.

Up in the air, beyond the treeline, Myrridan has a gander at what lies below.
There look to be five HUGE trees of slightly darker foliage, mingled in with the rest of the jungle. They're maybe 20 yards behind the treeline, spread out equally along the 100 yard edge of the clearing.
The hawk is hovering above, looking down at the same scene.

((I'll do another map tomorrow morning.))

The Dragons arrival has a significant effect on the panicing crowd. One Dragon member on the ground and fighting was all well and good, but now there were more, and that mighty V on Valdor's breastplate was certainly noticed.
Someone raises a cheer, and for a pivotal moment, all eyes are on the Platinum Dragons.
Immediately, women crouching near Tericus grab the flailing limbs of their children and start to move toward the edge of the water.
Onrad's rallying call has some of the men picking up any weapons they can find. Some find blades, for others it's a makeshift club, but there is now the beginnings of determination in their eyes.

The nimble Onrad disables two of the creatures quickly.
Valdor's two swords slice, kill or disable 7 others with blistering and impressive speed. Like Gareth they both realise that cutting into these things is like cutting through a giant cabbage.

Right in the middle of the field, Cori's spell brings 6 of the marauders to a grinding halt. Two of them have citizens thrown over their shoulder.

Up near the treeline, Gareth continues his assault, while passing on what he knows about their mysterious enemy to the others.
The purple creatures certainly seem to be coming from the forest/jungle straight ahead of him.

Nick sets to and helps pull citizens toward the shore. Looking at various folks who seem to be turning around and joining in the fight, he says to Valdor -

Myrridan stares down at the corrupted trees from above. Those four must be the source of all this, or a least have a major contributing factor. While in his elemental form, the druid wildcasts a powerful spell (Shapechange spell, standard action) and takes the shape of a djinni (free action) and continues to hover in place. Into the earpiece, Myrridan reports, "There are four huge trees with darkened leaves, possible treants, that look to be the source of all this!"

Myrridan again draws upon the magics of nature. With a flick of his wrist, columns of flame come raining down on the four trees and any other enemies within range. Time to take the fight to them! Nick, Tericus, let us know if things get too bad out here. We'll take out these tree-like creatures. Then we can come finish the cabbages off."

Since he's not immediately closed in battle, he decides to sprint into the woods as far as he can go.He will double his speed as soon as he can.

DM Jan
Thursday June 23rd, 2005 2:08:08 AM

Tericus starts herding folks toward the shore. A bridge at this point would certainly be a good idea, alas the only thing looking like a bridge right now are the massive vines coming out of the jungle, that have the City in a chokehold, and are trying to pull the entire structure on it's side.
Some of the vines hold signs of damage - charred sections, pieces hacked away - but the growth has been incredibly vigorous, bypassing, repairing - it's lesser tendrils hold grisly remains aloft; twisted and broken bodies hang there like dolls.
Empowered by the siren song of the Fae King, these things appear unstoppable.

Behind the cleric of Alemi, a battle rages in the clearing.
Platinum Dragon weaponry and spells cut through the purple enemy. Beyond them lies the treeline - a wall of foliage, hiding... something.

It is becoming obvious to Gareth, Mordrid, Valdor and Cori that these purple creatures are easy meat to warriors with their particular skills.
In amongst the crowd, spurred on by the Dragons' example, men are picking up swords and clubs and are beginning to get themselves organized. The half-orc Trash Level team up near the treeline are working together particularly well.
Valdor sets off at a good clip for the treeline, arriving there on this round.

And beyond the treeline, shrouded by the foliage -
Both Onrad and Dahlia feel it, as soon as their feet touches live jungle soil.
The hostility. Go away. You don't belong here. Death if you stay. It makes the hackles rise and the mind wary. This is the Crying Woods - Nemolachria - where trespassers are discouraged with extreme prejudice.

Onrad can see purple shapes shuffling along ahead of him. There's something big, a short distance away.
Dahlia pops up beside one of the biggest tree trunks she's ever seen. Above her head, long vines are draped across branches, and the branches seem to carry fruit of some kind. Everything seems.... so quiet after the clamour in the clearing.

Suddenly, forty great sheets of flame - Myrridan's wrath - blast down from above. Fire. Steam. A great roar. The smell of cooking sprouts.
Onrad's vision is blocked by clouds of steam.
Dahlia must hope her reflexes and blinking save the day or get a severe toasting.
Reflex DC 33 for half damage.

Mordrid comments to the team of clerics. "A bridge is a good idea. But, a bridge back to the city they are fleeing from may not be. They will certainly die there. Can anyone form an extradimensional gate leading to someplace safe? Like say, the Plateau?"

Mordrid cries out to the masses to rally an organized resistance. "Come now citizens of the float! Stand firm and rebuke these unwelcome foes. Push them back!"

Mordrid casts longstrider on himself and pushes into the forest after Valdor; using both swift tracker feat and woodland stride feat.
