((Guys, can anyone do double duty and enter a couple of posts over on the Crescent Valley Board? The halfling group there have just arrived outside Gold Dragon Castle in Plateau City and have some info for the Dragons.

I guess this will have to be a time warp situation, where perhaps the adventurers arrived before the Dragons set off for the Float?))

Valdor arrives in the area with a flurry of swords, going for any creature carrying someone off first. His blades sing as he slices through any of the strange creatures that he can get to with his blades.

Wednesday June 22nd, 2005 2:24:01 AM

Once they've landed on the shore, Nick will swallow down any teleport nausea he feels with all possible speed.
He'll aim to follow the others, staying central, where'll he'll be of most use.

The Dragons arrival has a significant effect on the panicing crowd. One Dragon member on the ground and fighting was all well and good, but now there were more, and that mighty V on Valdor's breastplate was certainly noticed.
Someone raises a cheer, and for a pivotal moment, all eyes are on the Platinum Dragons.
Immediately, women crouching near Tericus grab the flailing limbs of their children and start to move toward the edge of the water.
Onrad's rallying call has some of the men picking up any weapons they can find. Some find blades, for others it's a makeshift club, but there is now the beginnings of determination in their eyes.

The nimble Onrad disables two of the creatures quickly.
Valdor's two swords slice, kill or disable 7 others with blistering and impressive speed. Like Gareth they both realise that cutting into these things is like cutting through a giant cabbage.

Right in the middle of the field, Cori's spell brings 6 of the marauders to a grinding halt. Two of them have citizens thrown over their shoulder.

Up near the treeline, Gareth continues his assault, while passing on what he knows about their mysterious enemy to the others.
The purple creatures certainly seem to be coming from the forest/jungle straight ahead of him.

Tericus
Wednesday June 22nd, 2005 7:02:45 AM

seeing that his friends have started the counterassault, Tericus decides to continue to help the fleeing citizens to the river banks. raising his mace, he yells "Follow me! Ill lead you to safety!" then Tericus begins to move towards the nearest bridge, hoping that his friends can save those already captured.

The warrior continues his relentless assault on the attackers. He continues to try and disable or maim, trying to save one attack per creature whenever possible, wondering how many citizens will be lost. "Myrradin! Where are ya bud! Come to me! With your Druid abilties and my tumbling we'll scout ahead to see where these guys are coming from. We should be able to handle the forest."

Not receiving an answer, he shrugs.

"Valdor, I'm heading in. I'll keep in contact on the rings and teleport out if I get in trouble."

With that, Onrad sprints forward to the forest's edge and beyond in the direction the monsters seem to be coming from.

[Spot of 27s he runs]
[Tumble of 46 if anything tries to grab him.]

Onrad will avoid attacking going Total Defense (AC58) tumbling past any attackers and going ever forward to try to find the source.

::Ok, think Onrad. Ya don't wanna die here. Concentrate. Focus.::

Seeing the evenly spaced darker green tree things behind everything else, Activating her ring of blinking, Dahlia uses her cape of the mounteback and is suddenly situated right be hind the center tree thing.

Cori picks one of the purple creatures that is not held by her spell and once again calls upon her powers.

Missiles of pure energy fly straight at one of the creatures, striking with ease. She scouts out the immediate area and then looks to Valdor. "Do we press the attack or stay and protect the citizens right now...maybe divide our forces?" She draws the rapier from her side as she continues to take stock of the situation.

Nick
Wednesday June 22nd, 2005 11:48:14 PM

Nick sets to and helps pull citizens toward the shore. Looking at various folks who seem to be turning around and joining in the fight, he says to Valdor -

"Perhaps they can hold off these creatures, if inspired enough. That way we can get to the source. Gareth said something about trees."

Myrridan (shapechange: djinni, barkskin, prayer)  20d6(6+4+2+2+3+2+5+6+6+2+1+2+4+6+4+4+3+5+1+4)=72
Thursday June 23rd, 2005 12:46:29 AM

Myrridan stares down at the corrupted trees from above. Those four must be the source of all this, or a least have a major contributing factor. While in his elemental form, the druid wildcasts a powerful spell (Shapechange spell, standard action) and takes the shape of a djinni (free action) and continues to hover in place. Into the earpiece, Myrridan reports, "There are four huge trees with darkened leaves, possible treants, that look to be the source of all this!"

Myrridan again draws upon the magics of nature. With a flick of his wrist, columns of flame come raining down on the four trees and any other enemies within range. (Quickened Firestorm, free action, wont harm surrounding plants, other than the targets. Area effect: Forty 10-ft cubes, shapable. Damage: 72 points of fire damage. Reflex save DC 33, for half damage.

Valdor
Thursday June 23rd, 2005 1:58:37 AM

Valdor, seeing that the clerics are working on protecting the fleeing citizens, says into his earpiece,"It sounds like the source of the problems is not showing itself. Time to take the fight to them! Nick, Tericus, let us know if things get too bad out here. We'll take out these tree-like creatures. Then we can come finish the cabbages off."

Since he's not immediately closed in battle, he decides to sprint into the woods as far as he can go.He will double his speed as soon as he can.

DM Jan
Thursday June 23rd, 2005 2:08:08 AM

Tericus starts herding folks toward the shore. A bridge at this point would certainly be a good idea, alas the only thing looking like a bridge right now are the massive vines coming out of the jungle, that have the City in a chokehold, and are trying to pull the entire structure on it's side.
Some of the vines hold signs of damage - charred sections, pieces hacked away - but the growth has been incredibly vigorous, bypassing, repairing - it's lesser tendrils hold grisly remains aloft; twisted and broken bodies hang there like dolls.
Empowered by the siren song of the Fae King, these things appear unstoppable.

Behind the cleric of Alemi, a battle rages in the clearing.
Platinum Dragon weaponry and spells cut through the purple enemy. Beyond them lies the treeline - a wall of foliage, hiding... something.

It is becoming obvious to Gareth, Mordrid, Valdor and Cori that these purple creatures are easy meat to warriors with their particular skills.
In amongst the crowd, spurred on by the Dragons' example, men are picking up swords and clubs and are beginning to get themselves organized. The half-orc Trash Level team up near the treeline are working together particularly well.
Valdor sets off at a good clip for the treeline, arriving there on this round.

And beyond the treeline, shrouded by the foliage -
Both Onrad and Dahlia feel it, as soon as their feet touches live jungle soil.
The hostility. Go away. You don't belong here. Death if you stay. It makes the hackles rise and the mind wary. This is the Crying Woods - Nemolachria - where trespassers are discouraged with extreme prejudice.

Onrad can see purple shapes shuffling along ahead of him. There's something big, a short distance away.
Dahlia pops up beside one of the biggest tree trunks she's ever seen. Above her head, long vines are draped across branches, and the branches seem to carry fruit of some kind. Everything seems.... so quiet after the clamour in the clearing.

Suddenly, forty great sheets of flame - Myrridan's wrath - blast down from above. Fire. Steam. A great roar. The smell of cooking sprouts.
Onrad's vision is blocked by clouds of steam.
Dahlia must hope her reflexes and blinking save the day or get a severe toasting.
Reflex DC 33 for half damage.

Tericus
Thursday June 23rd, 2005 9:35:06 AM

"If you need help, let me know." Tericus says over his dragon ring, addressing everyone. then, seeing that there isnt a nearby bridge, Tericus decides to create one himself. moving towards the shore, Tericus judges the distance then casts Wall of stone(5 ft wide, up to 150 ft long). if its not long enough to reach the opposite shore, Tericus will cast it anyway and augment it the next round.

Mordrid
Thursday June 23rd, 2005 11:51:43 AM

Mordrid comments to the team of clerics. "A bridge is a good idea. But, a bridge back to the city they are fleeing from may not be. They will certainly die there. Can anyone form an extradimensional gate leading to someplace safe? Like say, the Plateau?"

Mordrid cries out to the masses to rally an organized resistance. "Come now citizens of the float! Stand firm and rebuke these unwelcome foes. Push them back!"

Mordrid casts longstrider on himself and pushes into the forest after Valdor; using both swift tracker feat and woodland stride feat.

Valdor continues to sprint toward the real problems, figuring the others have things under control. Seeing the spell, Valdor yells,"Make sure the bottom of those spells are a few feet above our heads! We don't want to get fried down here! I'm almost on one of the trees now."

Valdor takes half a second to slice one of the purple cabbages as he flies past it. He's going to close on the tree second from the right, if possible.

Myrridan moves in a bit closer, but keeps at least 70-ft away from the nearest tree. (movement 60', perfect flight). He quickly lets loose another column of flames, except this one is concentrated on a tree that's not engaged by the others.

(Quicken/Maximized Flamestrike, free action. 90 points of damage. Half fire damage, half divine energy damage. Reflex save 33 for half.)

Myrridan then turns to the tree closest to him and casts a powerful transmutation. The druids voice booms out a command, "Become a TOAD!"

Friday June 24th, 2005 2:11:37 AM

At the shore, a solid stone, 150ft projection appears about 5 ft over the water, pointing back toward the City. In order to connect however, there'd still have to be approximately 5100 ft.
It's not stopping folk from jumping up onto it's surface however.

In the clearing, Cori's earth elementals and Mordrid's rallying cry helps forge determination amongst the stranded citizens. Right now, as far as Tericus, Nick, Cori and Gareth can see, it's anybody's guess as to which way this fight will go.

In the jungle - Dahlia's uncanny reflexes save her a roasting and she immediately sets to work, hacking away at the trunk of the gigantic plant in front of her. (TREE #3) It's just sat there - a sitting duck (AC 15), although it's bark has an odd feel, slightly rubbery. Had it been harder, her blades would have made significant damage, but right now around half of it seems to be absorbed by the rubbery surface.
Still, she manages to carve a significant hole.
Onrad is appraching this tree from the opposite side.

Valdor approaches the next tree to the right. (TREE #2) As soon as he's past the treeline, he too gets the 'benefit' of that tight little threat, seeping into his subconscious from the hostile jungle. Here, like Dahlia and Onrad, he can see the full horror of the things before him. They're like some kind of twisted, weird tree - easily 25 ft tall. Vines tangle upper branches and seem alive, curling like serpents. Odd, purple fruit hangs from it's branches, and on the trunk, a horrible maw of some kind awaits feeding.

About 10ft from Onrad, one of the fruits drops to the ground with a loud splat. From it's remains, a small purple orc-thing - a wortling, rises slowly to it's feet.

Up in the air, Myrridan sends down more flame, targeting the big tree to the left of Dahlia's.(TREE #4) Steam and a shriek billow upward, and the druid sends forth his piece de resistence - in a bid to turn the monster into a wholly manageable little toad.
But be danged if the thing isn't immune! The spell slides off it's tree-like hide, doing nothing.

As soon as the Dragons approach, the vine branches start to twitch, like the things knew they were coming.

6 vines swing down toward Dahlia, their intention to give her a good clobbering.
Hits AC 40, 46, 39, 46, 34, 36
Damage 31, 22, 32, 22, 30, 32
Blink - Hit Miss Hit Miss Miss Hit

Dahlia must now make a grapple check DC 61

6 vines on the tree to the right, power toward Valdor on full attack. They've easily got a 40ft reach.
Hits AC 48, 33, 45, 37, 45, 48
Damage 32, 34, 27, 28, 28, 27

Valdor must now make a grapple check DC 65
If grappled, attack when grappled rules will apply.

It suddenly becomes blatantly obvious that this... will be no... picnic!

He bellows his support to those that are fighting back, telling them to trip or stop the ones trying to carry people off. Cori is satisfied as her elementals appear and tear into the purple cabbages with purpose. She then turns her attention to other problems. She takes a quick count of what purple cabbages still remain in the area, trying to decide if she will move on to the real fight or not.

Calling upon her powers she decides to try and even the odds a little in thier favor. She is hoping that if the numbers drop some then the citizens will be able to take care of themselves with minimal risk. She pulls out one of her two rods from a pocket in her pants and aims it at the nearest group of cabbages. Lightnig streaks out from the rod and strikes the first cabbage and then will travel on to the next one, hopefully getting the most bang for the spell.

(OOC: Jan I forgot that Dahlia bypasses damage reduction, as she has the penetrate damage reduction feat.)

Dahlia squirms and wiggles and manages to avoid the grapple, (DC63) if barely, but also blinks out and goes ethereal, and the vine loses its grip anyway (07).

Moving five feet up and to the side, Dahlia goes to work, her two blades nearly a blur as she attacks again.

All attacks manage to be during her in real world space.

Monday June 27th, 2005 11:26:30 AM

Being snared, Valdor doesn't even try to escape. Instead, he actvates his earring and says,"Stay out of reach of the vines. They snare and are almost impossible to dodge. It'll take spells and ranged weapons against them."

With that, he activates his reing of teleportation and pops back onto the beach where the fighting was heaviest, leaving the trees to the mages and Mordrid, if he can see them.

Nick nods at Tericus.
"Okay - sounds good."

Seeing as the purple things seem within his combat range he takes out his flail and prepares to whack at them.

However, just in case, he says into his earpiece.
"What is it looking like in there? Do you need your clerics?"
He's a bit worried, not being able to see the others, and is prepared to run toward the forest if necessary.

Behind the treeline, in the jungle -

Tree #1 -
Originally hit by Myrridan's first blast, it is looking a bit toasty, but still standing and hungry as ever.
It has an old fellow in it's vine-like limbs and is attempting to stuff the old man down it's throat. The old man is unconscious.
2 wortlings stand waiting. Each have an unconscious prey to feed to the monsterous tree.

Tree #2 -

Oooh, a nice, tall, muscular half elf in it's clutches. Yum yum. It's vines flex, bringing Valdor forth so it can consume him. The tree creature's maw is a terrible thing to behold - row upon row of angled tiny teeth, and slithery darkness beyond. Then just as it is about shove the Dragonstone into it's mouth - Valdor disappears!!
There are no wortlings here to feed it yet.

Tree #3 -

Dahlia keeps hacking away - her blades merciless and unrelenting.
The killing blow plunges straight into the split bark, covering Dahlia's hand in a strange, peppermint-smelling ooze.
The tree monster shrieks! It's a terrible sound that can be heard for miles. It drops all it's fruit at once - plop plop splat! Out of the 10 fruit dropped - 6 wortlings stagger to their feet.

Dahlia must make FORT DC 35 or be paralyzed for 3 rounds.

Tree #4 -

This one is also a bit sizzled, having been the victim of Myrridan's second flame spell.
3 wortlings are approaching - all of them have 'food' for the tree. Two unconscious females and a crying baby.
Mordrid's arrows hammer into the tree with defined and solid thunks. Vines snap out angrily toward the ranger, who is presumably more than 40ft away.

Tree #5 -

"Domi, no - no - NOOOOOO!!!!"
It is a scream of desperation, by a young Floating City guard, as he is thrust into the hungry maw of this tree.
There are 4 wortlings here. All within 40ft of this tree. All have prey - all of whom start screaming for their lives.

Out in the clearing -

With everyone getting organized, the tide is definitely beginning to turn. All combatants have to start looking hard for something to hit.
Then -
It is impossible to ignore the blood-curdling scream that comes from the dying Orcwort, hidden behind the treeline, and immediately, all the wortlings in the clearing, busy gathering 'food' for their tree monsters, turn about and start heading back toward the jungle.

Monday June 27th, 2005 8:42:46 PM

The warrior unloads on the wortlings. He attacks them and then cuts into anyone around him that try to flee. He follows them straight into the forest cutting down any of them he comes across. Hearing the screams of the guard, he continues to work his way straight toward them, focusing on the ones with 'prey'. (Cut down 14).

Tericus will remain where he is for the moment, and repeats Nicks request over his earring. "Do you guys need our help?"

Corialote
Tuesday June 28th, 2005 12:55:19 AM

Seeing that the wortlings are in full retreat or at least it looks that way she calls on her arcane powers this time to alter her shape. The last thing you see is a smile upon her face as she slips into the form of a will-o-wisp and starts to blink out here and there to follow the enemy. She is heading for the scene of the current battles which should be easy to find with all the screams.

The three elementals sink into the ground and follow along after their mistress. They will either protect her or at last help in fighting off more of those soft cabbages.

Onrad
Tuesday June 28th, 2005 7:17:38 AM

Onrad looks in shock at Dahlia. "Since when did you become a god!"

Then backing off a bit as he hears Valdor's suggestion, he wonders at a creature that can make Valdor back off.

Not knowing which tree he is in front of, he looks for people to rescue that are nearly to the trees. If he finds them, he moves in that direction to save them.

The ranger can do nothing more for the citizens short of killing the trees, so he continues firing. [Many Shot seems to be working better, so he will continue to use the feat]

Nick
Tuesday June 28th, 2005 7:11:03 PM

Nick pauses for a moment, catching Mordrid's comment, right after the tree's death shriek.
'Tericus, I think we'd better get going. These creatures out here look like they've been summoned back to that area behind the tree line.'

Nick starts to run full tilt toward the trees.
'Valdor! What's in there?' he asks while on the run.

Valdor replies,"Those trees can grab you from a long way before you can hit them. There is almost no defense against them. The best bet is to save who we can and keep those purple things from taking any more people, until all of you spellcasters and Mordrid and Dahlia can take them out.

It would be wiser for me, Gareth, and Onrad to pick off those purple guys as they try to capture people."

Valdor flies into any of the purple creatures he can find with an anger not seen in him before. His face is bright red...anger, or something else?

DM Jan
Wednesday June 29th, 2005 1:29:30 AM

The fight - in all it's forms - appears to be moving behind the treeline and into the jungle. All the purple creatures are hastily heading in that direction, in order to protect the mother/father.
In the clearing, citizens are unceremoniously dropped on the ground as the creatures move out.

Just a round up of where everyone is:
Myrridan is aloft, flying above the trees.
Valdor is in the clearing, 1 round away from the jungle.
Gareth is now in the jungle.
Tericus is in the clearing, 1 round away from the jungle.
Cori is just about to enter the jungle.
Nick is just about to enter the jungle.
Onrad is in the jungle, in front of the deceased tree #3
Dahlia is in the jungle, at the rear of the deceased tree #3
Mordrid is aloft, in the jungle.

In the Jungle -

Gareth and Valdor's blades have mowed down sufficient wortlings to ensure that only 15 of them make it into the trees.
Addly enough, these wortlings all head for Tree #5 and take up a guard position.

Gareth feels the familiar jungle hostility swim over him as soon as he sets foot over the treeline. Ahead are 4 huge , odd trees. Tree #5 is where the young guard's screaming is coming from.

Nick and Cori will also arrive this round and be able to get their bearings.

Tree #1 -

The tree pauses in it's swallowing of the old man as it gets zapped by Dahlia's lightning bolt.
There are two wortlings here with two unconscious citizens.

Tree #2 -

This tree just seems to be waiting. No wortlings and 'food' here.

Tree #3 -

Dead. But it's 6 remaining wortlings shuffle toward Onrad.
Dahlia has succeeded in kicking off the paralysing effects of the tree sap. Something moves in the dead trees innards, and a vaguely humanoid figure crawls out. Dahlia can't tell if it's male or female, it's skin looks half dissolved, it's eyes have gone. It starts to tremble. It lets out a terrified, painful scream.

Tree #4 -

The tree shivers under another barrage of Mordrid's arrows. Of the three wortlings approaching with 'food' - one carrying an unconscious female is now within 40ft of the tree. Two others, with an adult female and a crying baby, are not. Yet.

Tree #5 -

The young guard has been swallowed whole! Is he still alive inside that thing?
The other 4 wortlings with 'food' are waiting beneath the tree's branches. The 15 wortlings from the clearing are 60ft away from this tree and closing.

Body Count (as above) -

There are 11 Citizens at dire risk.
Only two are currently out of range of the tree's 40ft range.
Two are currently being swallowed.
One poor soul is half digested and possibly beyond help.

It is a desperate and terrible scene. But what can the Dragons do, when they are in danger of being swallowed themselves? One thing is for sure. Time is running out quickly for those citizens.

Gareth
Wednesday June 29th, 2005 9:04:14 AM

Mordrid's call makes him focus, and he moves toward the dead tree as fast as he possibly can, and sends the blessed energy of Alemi through the poor creature shrieking on the ground.
One of these trees did that??
Hopefully the spell would stabilize whoever it was, until Nick could get his bearings.

"What's the plan?" he yells. "Do we take them one at a time? Go in hard and fast?"

In the distance he sees Onrad valiantly charge into the fray.

And so it begins in earnest - plant v flesh, tree v Dragon.

Tree #1 -

The old man disappears into the plant creature's maw, and the two wortlings here step forward with their 'offerings. This tree is partially fried.

Tree #2 -

No wortlings with prey at this tree, but it flexes it's powerful vines, taking up a defensive position. Marks of Valdor's sword are visible on it's trunk.

Tree #3 (dead) -

The humanoid figure now lies unconscious on the ground next to the ruin of this tree. After the healing spell, he looks to be in a lot better shape.
The 6 wortlings, who had originally taken off after Onrad, suddenly change direction and head toward Tree #2.

Tree #4 -

More of Mordrid's arrows hammer home into the tree. Right now it's bristling with arrow shafts. Valdor winks into existance right alongside the trunk and gives it a mighty whack. An instant later, more fire rains down from above, courtesy of Myrridan, hovering above.
The druid's command rings out.
There are 3 wortlings here, carrying two adult females and a baby. On the command, the creatures change direction, away from the tree. They head vaguely in Myrridan's direction, searching for his feet.

This tree is now sorely wounded. Only half of it's vines are in operation, and in desperation they lash out at the closest - Valdor.
Hits AC 39, 50 for 23 and 24 DAM.
Valdor must now make a grapple check of 72, as the thing makes a grab for him.

Tree #5 -

Cori's ring of fire ingnites around the returning 15 wortlings, hiding them from view..

After swallowing the young guard, the tree waits expectantly for it's next meal. It's rudely interrupted by Onrad charging in and slashing at the wortlings.
One wortling drops it's prey - a young, dirty faced lad in scruffy clothes, unconscious.
Another wortling stops in it's tracks, it's hit, but it doesn't drop it's 'meal'.

The other two head forward, but are suddenly blocked by the sudden appearance of Cori's elementals.
Enraged, the tree's vine-like limbs whip forth in a powerful frenzy.
Elemental #1 gets hit - AC 35 for 25 dam
Elemental #2 gets hit - AC 50 for 29 dam
Elemental #3 gets hit twice - AC 35, 43 for 30 and 30 dam
Two vines also make a swing at Onrad - AC 31, 37 for 28 and 31 damage.
Elementals and Onrad must make a grapple check of DC 75

Tericus arrives in the jungle at this point.

((OOC - 2 Hero points to Onrad, for going 'in like Flynn' after knowing exactly what he's up against.))

((The trees are temporarily rooted to the ground, hence the AC 15, making them v-easy to hit. Sitting ducks with the hitting power of a Mack truck :) ))

continues to attack the two he is currently combating. He turns to the one that has not dropped his prey first. If he dies, the rest of the attacks go on the other. If these two are dispatched, he races to the final two being held back by the elementals.

Attack #1 hits AC48 doing 17hpd.

Attack #2 hits AC31 doing 16hpd.

[OOC: Jan, please make an announcement of whether crits affect them or not. You're the DM. :)]

[OOC: Thanks for the money reminder, Jan. Now I suggest we wait for xp until after this battle and then we can include it in the mix.]

[OOC: To players, remember you can continue to add xp to your character until you get to Level 21. At that time, stop. Permanent games do NOT play at levels higher than 21. After we retire, we'll try to start up a Tap game so we can continue unofficially if you want and then we'll start advancing together. Otherwise, we'll be too far apart in xp when we start a tap game. So no one plast level 21. Extra xp is lost for now. Instead, enjoy the fact that you can still play, friends.

One other point, if you took an Epic Feat from the Epic Book, BEFORE we cut epic play in permanent games, you may keep it via grandfather clause. However, once we cut Epic Play, the Epic book became unofficial and so we can't continue to take epic feats anymore. But again, you can keep the ones you took before we cut epic play. Once we retire and start Tap play, when we do that, we can use whatever books, etc. the DM of the tap game will let us use. :) Rules for Tap games are set by the DM and the players with the DM having final say, obviously.

If this creates problems you need to talk to me about, email me please.]

Cori watches as all three of her elementals are grappled by the vines from the trees. She silently hopes that the size of the elementals will help in keeping them in the fight at least for awhile longer. She instead turns her attention to tree#2 and the wortlings that are moving in that direction. Her eyes flash as a smile spreads on her face and she takes the rod that is in her hand and points it at the tree, letting the six wortlings get close to it. She releases a fireball in that direction, through the rod.

All three elementals are gasped by vines from the tree but they have not given up the will to fight and live. Each one grabs the vines and rips and tears at them with the intent to make it very hard upon the tree.

Stephen: FYI about critical hits and sneak attacks.
Thursday June 30th, 2005 8:13:57 PM

All undead, constructs, plants, elementals, and oozes are not subject to Critical Hits.

Undead, constructs, oozes, plants, and incorporeal creatures are not subject to Sneak Attacks either.

OOC: what page and book please? It would benefit us all if we also knew the rules better.

Myrridan lands on the ground an takes his natural human form (free action). He continues to shout his commands to the wortlings. "Set them down here! Myrridan points to the ground at his feet. Once they do so, the arch druid gives them another task. "Go, and retreive the humans that those wortlings carry. Do not harm the humans. Attack those wortlings if they resist! Now RUN, and get them!" Myrridan points at the other wortlings that are carrying victims to their mother tree.

Myrridan turns to the injured and casts a powerful healing spell. (Casting Mass Cure Critical Wounds. Up to 20 allies within a 75ft radius are healed 43 hit points each.)

((Managed to find a mention in my monster write up. "Not subject to critical hits or mind-affecting effects". So there we are, I guess.))

Stephen ooc:
Friday July 1st, 2005 7:50:47 AM

Its not difficult to find this stuff. The rules arent hidden on these two subjects. In the Monster Manual, on page 305, begins Chapter 7, "The Glossary". There they give definitions to all the different traits to each creature type and subtype. In each creature type, their traits are clearly stated at what they are immune to. They may even be mentioned in each creature's write up, under Special Qualities: "plant traits", "undead traits" and so on.

The Sneak Attack exclusions should be known to all Rogues since they are mentioned in Chapter 3, "Classes". In the Rogue class write up, under the header titled, "Sneak Attack". Players Handbook, page 50.

"A rogue can sneak attack only living creatures with discernible anatomies -- undead, constructs, oozes, plants, and incorporeal creatures lack vital areas to attack. Any creature that is immune to critical hits is not vulnerable to sneak attacks."

Okay - no CRITS, no MIND AFFECT spells, no SNEAKS. You want it. You got it :) To be fair - what has gone before - will stand. We'll apply this from now on.

The battle continues!

Tree #1 -

Having swallowed the old chap, the tree has now got it's 'hands' on his pretty, young wife and will cram her into it's maw in the next round. The fruit on this tree appear to be enlarging quite visibly.
One wortling stands guard.
Another wortling stands waiting beneath the tree with another citizen.

Tree #2 -

This tree shudders as Cori's fireball hits it - WHAM! - and it's vines thrash as Tericus's enhanced flamestrike roars down from above. It's still very much alive, but it's beginning to smell like toasted pumpkin.
One of the 6 wortlings falls down in flames, leaving 5 to defend it.

Tree #3 -

Dead.

Tree #4 -

BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM!! more arrows embed themselves into the trunk, and holy fire rains down from above.
If it ever had Valdor in it's clutches a few moments ago - it now drops him like a sack of turnips.
The trunk wilts, and a strange peppermint-scented ooze flows out onto the ground. accompanied by a few bones.
It's dead, and small licks of flame begin to devour it's extremities.

Myrridan lands close by, and the three wortlings shuffling around with prey in their arms, stop in front of him and deposit two women and a crying baby at his feet.
At his next command, the creatures appear to be confused and just stand there.

Tree #5 -

Onrad nimbly avoids the thrashing tree limbs and hacks at the injured wortling #2.
It, too drops it's prey.
He then follows up and manages hack a reasonable sized lump out of wortling #3. It drops it's prey but attempts to pick it up again.
Wortling #4, after having dropped it's prey after the elementals knocked seven bells out of it, is attempting to pick it back up also.
The 15 wortlings enclosed by the fire ring are now reduced to 5, and things are still burning.
The elementals thrash and do what damage they can, as the tree has them caught in it's limbs. Cellulose begins to shred but the grip is still firm and damaging -
Elemental #1 dam 27
Elemental #2 dam 32
Elemental #3 32 and 31 dam
The two free vines take another swing at Onrad - AC 45 , 35 for 32 damage on the first one.
Elementals and Onrad must make a grapple check of DC 65.
In the meantime, Dahlia's flasks smash and ingnite against the tree trunk.

Civilians -
Tree #1 - 1 swallowed, 2 in mortal danger.
Tree #2 - 0
Tree #3 - 1 partially healed.
Tree #4 - 3 safe for now.
Tree #5 - 1 swallowed. 3 on ground.

Cori smiles as she lines up another blast at tree#2. A lightningbolt fires off from the rod that she holds in her hand, except that it is made of pure fire instead...a Firebolt. She glances to see how everyone else is holding up and wonders if her wall is doing its job.

She glances to the raven on her shoulder and nods. "Check on those encircled will you...but stay out of reach of those vines." The raven simply nods and takes off for an aerial view and report back to his mistress everything that he sees.

The elementals are not able to get away from the vines but they still have plenty of fight left in them. The continue to rip and tear at the vines that they can reach. Though they are not too sure they can win they will not quit...they are as hard as the stone they are made from.

Myrridan (ac:47, hp:227 shapechange: human, barkskin, prayer, control plants)

Sunday July 3rd, 2005 2:23:55 AM

"Mindless fools," he shouts at the wortlings. It shocks the arch druid that his Control Plants spell, one of the most powerful and greatest spells a druid can cast, has so little influence over these simple creatures. The awesome power of this magic, that few druids ever achieve the ability to cast, supposedly imbues plants with the ability to follow and understand his commands. There should be no confusion at all! Yet they stand there confused as if affected by some inferior charm spell cast by an initiate. Myrridan then tries another command that they might be able to understand, "Just sit down and dont move!" What a waste of a spell, the druid thinks. I could have prepared a Heightened Firestorm!

Myrridan scoops up the baby (move-equivalent action). The two women must be dead. The powerful healing magic that he cast the previous round didn't appear to have any effect. "I wont leave you, little one."

The druid then turns his attention back to battle. Two trees are down. Three are left standing. The treants are huge and take up a lot of space. With this next spell, with its shapeable area effect, should be able to shape the raining fire away from his allies and innocent victims, while still hitting the massive treants. So he lets loose another storm of fire from the heavens.

(Casting Maximized Firestorm. Standard action. Range: 300-ft radius. Area effect: Forty 10-ft cubes, Shapeable. Place a 10-ft cube on tree 1, tree 2 and tree 5, on the opposite side of each treant, away from allies and/or victims. Place a 10-ft cube on each wortling that isnt holding a victim or within reach of an ally, or the ones Myrridan has controlled. Basically, shaping the area effect to hit every possible enemy while avoiding friends and victims. The spell wont set the forest on fire either, except chosen targets. Damage: 120 points of fire damage. Reflex save DC 30 for half damage. Each target that takes 50+ damage, must make a fort save DC 15 or die from massive damage, unless they're immune to massive damage, like undead are.)

Onrad (by Kim)  d20=2 d20+33=37 d20+28=33 2d6(2+4)+14=20 2d6(5+1)+14=20
Monday July 4th, 2005 4:27:02 AM

Grapple roll: Far below 65. (d20=2 plus lots, but well shy of 65)

Caught up in the firm grasp of the tree-creature's tentacles, Onrad realizes that the party's efforts are too scattered. He sees the fire engulf some of the nearby carnivorous trees. Held fast, he uses the ring to teleport out of the grapple, to a spot he sees just on the other side of one of the blazing trees. His hand free to touch the earring, he speaks firmly so as to communicate with all who have one, "Forget the cabbages. All attack the trees. All attack the trees! They create more purple critters."

He ends up in a spot on the far side of the rightmost tree (between the tree and the 'Jungle' on map), and thrusts twice into the trunk of that tree for:

AC 37, 20 hp damage
AC 33, 20 hp damage

[If he cannot attack this round, I'm sure you'll make the requisite adjustments, Jan. Just trying to get a feel for the CS.]

Monday July 4th, 2005 8:02:01 PM

Amidst an acrid miasma of scorching vegetation, the Dragons continue their assault on the terrible, people-eating Orcworts and their minions.
At the edge of this jungle battleground, easily spotted by Mordrid - watching, waiting - huge, 10ft long, flat back beetles have arrived; they are the clean-up crew, ready to chomp on any dead vegetation they can find. And beneath them, the jungle itself - uneasy and fitful, it waits for two outside entities to settle their arguments and begone. Anyone with their feet on the ground can sense it's prickling displeasure.

Tree #1 -

Valdor dances at the edge of tree #1, getting within it's range to connect with the thick, coiling vines. The tree, already gorging itself, lashes out toward the warrior. After it had finished eating the woman, yes - it would eat him, too.
The young woman is already in it's clutches, already being pushed into it's Maw. She screams and looks toward Valdor imploringly, terror in her voice and in her eyes.
The warrior's blade slices at one vine, rendering it useless. Two other vines are wrapped around the woman. That leaves three to rain down blows and get a grip.
Wham!
Hits AC 50, 46, 44 for 34, 35, 27 Dam.
Valdor must make a Grapple check of DC62 or be caught up in the vines.

As Tericus approaches, two wortlings approach him. One drops a citizen on the ground. protection of the tree seems to be their mission now.

Tree #2 -
The tree takes another great gout of flame from Cori. It's now severely toasted. The 5 wortlings there crouch, waiting for attackers.

Tree #3 -

Dead.

Tree #4 -

Dead.
In some kind of weird, delayed reaction, the 3 Myrridan-commanded wortlings here set off toward Tree #5, presumably to pick up the citizens lying around the base of that tree.
Myrridan holds the terrified, howling baby, and two women are sat huddled tightly together nearby - frightened out of their wits.

Tree #5 -

Caught in the tree's grasp, Onrad winks out of existance and reappears at the far side of the tree, getting in a solid couple of hits. Flames lick up the sides of the tree trunk, and the air immediately increases in temperature as Dahlia's huge fire elemental appears alongside.
The tree prepares another swipe with it's massive vines.
Right then, heat is cranked up another notch as abrupt columns of flame appear - boring down into the tree, and the surrounding wortlings alike.
The flash of heat and fire is momentarily blinding and disorienting for everyone in the battle. When it clears...
Tree #5 is dead - it's trunk cracked open from top to bottom. The young guard, so recently swallowed, slides out, covered from head to foot in peppermint goo. his eyes are closed, and his whole body is shivering with shock.
Cori's elementals are now free.
Nick's spell goes off, giving protection to those in range - Onrad, Gareth, Dahlia, Mordrid, Myrridan and himself.

Hovering above the fire ring, Cori's raven is buffeted by the rising heat, but it can see enough to know that all of the purple creatures within the fire ring are now dead.

Civilians -

Tree #1 - 1 swallowed, 1 about to be swallowed, 1 in mortal danger.
Tree #2 - 0
Tree #3 - 1 partially healed.
Tree #4 - 3 safe.
Tree #5 - 1 spat out in need of healing. 3 safe for now.

~~Jan~~ It gets a mention in the Tree #5 section.

Myrridan looks down to the two women and says, "Are you two alright? Are you hurt?" The druid continues waiting to see or hear any life out of them. (several rounds ago, he hit them with a mass cure critcal spell.)

Not waiting too long for a response, the druid pulls an acorn from his belt pouch. He chants a few druidic words and enfuses it with a powerful conjuration. It glows and crackles with energy. Myrridan prepares to throw it in the next six seconds as he decides his next target. (casting Fireseed on the acorn. Will throw this next round)

Dahlia
Tuesday July 5th, 2005 9:59:27 AM

Quickly indtructing her elelmental to go after tree thing # 1, Dahlia rips a patch off of her robe (seal of potion sharing - free action) and then downs a small vial of liquid.

Using her earpiece she sends a quick communication to the other dragons.

"Get to Valdor!" he cries. "Get to Valdor!"

Dahlia's message through the earpiece astounds him. Breathe fire?

Valdor, looking really bad, almost falls prey to the tree's vines. He just dodges at the last instant(rolled nat 1, used hero point and got nat 20), then decides he's fully hacked off, so he'll do some hacking of his own. He yells out,"I'll try to hold the vines off Tericus, you see what you can do about the woman!"

Mordrid now begins his arial onslaught against tree #1. He moves his full distance stopping just out of reach of the trees grasp.

The ranger begins firing arrows into tree #1. [Many Shot & + 4 arrows]

[Shot1 : base 41-8=33 + 13 roll hits = AC 46. Damage 1d8+12 = 14 total damage.]

[Shot2 (rapid shot) : base 41 + 3 roll hits = AC 44. Damage 1d8+12 = 20 total damage.]

[Shot3 (bow of speed) : base 41 + 1 roll hits = automatic miss.]

If the creatures are aberartions or constructs each arrow does an additional 2d6+2 damage. Could I roll any worse.

With the information from her raven she releases the wall of fire so that it dies out. She shakes her head as the tree is still standing and her face twists. "Lets see just how much more you can take." She brings up her other hand and flicks it in the direction of tree#2, as she pulls upon powers she can feel taking it's toll on her. A streak of lightning strikes the trunk and then bounds off to strike all five of the remaining wortlings.

He raven comes back to land upon her shoulder and nuzzles her neck lightly. "You maybe able to rest soon mistress...just hang in there." He scans the area and plays eyes for her as she concentrates upon those monsters ahead of her.

Her three elementals slide under the ground and start a steady movement to tree#1. When the reach it they will pop up and start a full out assault upon the tree, but one elemental that will make a grab for the vines that hold the woman.

Myrridan (ac:47, hp:227 shapechange: human, barkskin, prayer, control plants)

Wednesday July 6th, 2005 12:57:54 AM

Myrridan hears Nicks plea to help Valdor. He stares at the glowing acorn in his fist. Beams of red pulsing light escapes through the cracks of his fingers. The fiery energy building up within is almost at its peak. But what of the child! Do I bring him into harms way. Do I leave with these women to dont appear to be able to look after him.

DM Jan  d20+30=47 4d6(4+2+4+4)+14=28
Wednesday July 6th, 2005 12:59:18 AM

What had appeared to be the entire jungle, alive with huge trees and whirling, battering vines, has now been reduced to a more manageable arena.

Tree's #3, 4 and 5 are dead and withering. Tiny flames sputter at their extremities, and the air is full of moisture and the smell of brussel sprouts cooked far too long.

However, despite the moisture in the air, everyone feels a sudden dryness in the backs of their throats, and a bitter taste, as Dahlia's Seal takes effect.

Myrridan's converted wortlings are dragging 3 of the citizens from the dead tree #5 toward him. It looks like he'll have quite a crowd around him, soon. The two young ladies on the ground look up at him as he asks questions, and nod frantically when he asks if they're all right. The baby has stopped crying, and is watching, mesmerized by the acorn.

Meanwhile, Onrad and Cori engage Tree #2.
The thing is withered and thrashing wildly. All but two wortlings are left standing here after the affects of various spells, and they aren't looking too good either.
Onrad thrashes away at the cellulose hide on the plant monster and follows up with a rather impressive gout of flame. Woah - better watch those eyebrows though. breathing fire obviously takes some practice.
And if things weren't hot enough - a blistering jag of lightning dances against the tree, then fires outward, momentarily causing a white-out of the surrounding area.
As spots begin to clear from everyone's eyes, the scene reveals one VERY dead Tree #2, along with the two equally dead wortlings.

Nick, Dahlia and assorted elementals dash toward Tree #1 (next round), where a desperate fight is still ongoing.
Up in the air, Mordrid fires another barrage of arrows that pepper the tree's hide, splitting the bark.
Tericus takes a couple of mighty swings at the two wortlings, knocking them silly, but not knocking them down.
Looking like he's already done 10 rounds with a cave troll, Valdor manages to get out of the thing's clutches and does an impressive amount of damage on the vines. His efforts render two of them useless, AND - it halt's the tree's efforts at eating the young woman.
Now it's priorities have changed.
It now has only three vine limbs. Two drop the girl on the ground and ready themselves, gleefully sensing the warrior's doom, and the other punches out toward Valdor.

Feeling like a cat that just hacked up a hairball, Onrad jumps away from the tree as the lightning crackles and flashes. He works his way toward the next tree that still moves, if need be, tumbling past any wortlings in the way [tumble: 43]. He tries the same series of attacks he just used to good effect on the last tree, hitting:

AC 47 for 25 damage (including the +1 from Nick's prayer)
AC 43 for 19 damage

And 11 hp fire damage from fire breath, up the side of the trunk.

"Let's take this nasty thing out, Valdor!" he rasps. "Val - you all right?"

Dashing up to Tree #1, Nick feels Tericus's spell wash through the air.
Thank Alemi. Valdor was getting a real pounding.
Channeling the blessed force of their God, he adds to the healing power being cast outward.
Casts MASS HEAL - 180 hps healed for those in the Tree #1 area.

Next he looks to see where the citizens are, and what needs to be done. If they were looking in reasonable shape, then that tree had to come down before anything else.
Feeling the dryness at the back of his throat, he can't help but stare at Onrad, breathing like a dragon.

Cori fires off a barrage of magic missiles at the last two remaining tree#1. She then starts to move in that direction though she is not too keen on getting too close to those vines. Still she has to at least try to get a little closer and she is running out of spells for distance anyways that do not effect a large group.

The three earth elementals pop up about that time to tear into the tree#1. Since the woman is free they have no reason to deal with anything but the tree and they slam mighty fists into the trunk.

Myrridan (ac:47, hp:227 shapechange: human, barkskin, prayer, control plants)
  d20+25=45 d20+25=40
Wednesday July 6th, 2005 8:04:33 PM

Beads of sweat begin to roll down his face. The pulsating acorn is getting hotter in his hand. "I think its ready!" He turns to the women, "Here take the child." Myrridan hands the child over to them as quickly as possible. The druid focuses back on the battle, acorn hot in his hands. He swings back and sends it flying to tree1. Aiming high to avoid his friends below.

(Maximized FireSeed Gernade. Range 100-ft. Im assuming the tree is in range. If not, Myrridan would have attempted to move closer. He can move 70 feet closer if he needs to. Ranged Touch Attack. HitTouchAC: 45 threat, 40 crit, too bad they're immune to crits. 120 points of fire damage. No Save. If it were a crit, the damage would be 240!)

The acorn explodes with a mighty concussive force. The blast violently rattles the tree, sending splinters of bark and wood in all directions.

(FYI to all spellcasters. It's not that well known but a spell that requires an Attack Roll to hit a target can possibly do critical damage [20/2x]. Too bad these guys are immune to that.)

Mordrid
Wednesday July 6th, 2005 8:11:04 PM

Mordrid looks down upon the scene with a birds-eye-view. As much of a challenge as it is to fire arrows one after another and still see what is happening on the peripheal of his target; he some how spots Valdor, hallowed by a ray of sunlight seemingly sent from the gods, a blood caked Valdor is struggling with the remaining tree. Although he trusts Valdor to battle Gargul himself, the ranger notices an uncharacteristic stumble, that the proud warior quickly recovers from.

'Oh no! He must be really hurt bad.'

[Mordrid would not wait to see if the warrior was being healed at that instance.]

Mordrid flies down at all speed and throws an arm under the Dragonstone's bladed off hand; yanking him up off the ground and flying out of range of the tree's remaining attacks.

[Mordrid does not see the tree's two arms that are holding. Don't forget Jan, your trees have a longer reach than we do so they automatically get at least one attack of opportunity whenever someone enters their range. However Mordrid will take these attacks when entering the tree's range, thus removing any chance of the tree using its attack of opportunity on Valdor as he leaves their range.]

Valdor, feeling much better, continues to hammer away and slice at the vines. He feels he is making some headway and really close when... WHOOSH! He's picked up and a bit surprised to see Mordrid snag him. He figures there's a good reason, so he doesn't worry about that, but he does crane his neck as he's lifted and looks to see if the tree is dead.

After a couple of seconds, he says, "I'm okay brother. Tericus and Nick healed me enough to not go down. Dang those trees hurt when they hit and they hit me every stinking time. We've got to get back down there to help those people though, before they get eaten!"

Myrridan (ac:47, hp:227 shapechange: human, barkskin, prayer, control plants)

Thursday July 7th, 2005 9:11:00 PM

Myrridan waits for the wortlings to return with the others. He gets out a scroll with three cure spells. If any of them need healing, Myrridan will tend to them.

He then realizes that his control over the wortlings will soon end. "Everyone, it would be a good idea to come over to where I am. These wortlings will not be under my control for much longer. They need to be dealt with."

Corialote {shapechange: djinn}
Thursday July 7th, 2005 10:40:18 PM

Cori slowly moves over to take a spot by Valdor or where he will send be standing when he is returned to the ground. "Next time I should get those stoneskin spells up before the battle is engaged." She has a wry smile upon her face but she also looks extremely tired. It seems that working that much magic in such short order is hard on the person doing it.

Her raven snuggles against her cheek trying to give her strength from his own presence. "You did well Mistress for the circumstances." He looks around and seems to take it all in but not really care too much one way or the other.

She glances around and shakes her head. Calling out to anyone that is nearby she tries to get some ideas of what is next and information. "So how many were we able to save...how many did we lose?" The last is said with a tinge of sadness as she looks to those still around. "What now?" That last seems to be the most important question to be asked at this time and it has much relevance.

She releases the three elementals to return to their plane with a smile and a nod. "You have served me well my friends...go to your rest." She starts to move over in the direction of Myrridan and his soon to be problem, pulling her rapier as she moves. There is a grim set to her face as she eyes the creatures and also a flash of something akin to hatred.

Nick (Holy Aura, Prayer)
Friday July 8th, 2005 12:36:51 AM

Nick stumbles to his feet. What the heck was that explosion? He struggles for a moment, disoriented, combat adrenalin still pounding through him. Valdor. Had they been in time? Where was he? Mordrid had him. Okay. C'mon Nick get a grip. Do what you're supposed to do.

His eyes take in the scene, damage assessment to various persons first and foremost in his mind.

Valdor
Friday July 8th, 2005 12:44:38 AM

Valdor nudges Mordrid in the ribs and says,"The battle is over, let's go check on the people of the Float to see what aid we might render. My thanks for the help. Of course, you know that those people are more important to me than my own health. It would tear my heart out to see them die so I could be saved...but I understand. I would have done the same to you if the roles were reversed. Well, I might have waited a few more hits..."

Valdor has a smile on his face when he makes that last jest. When they land and Cori makes her point, he nods and says,"Of course that's easy to know now. Who by Domi's undershorts, would have thought a bunch of oversized firewood could be so lethal. I sure misjudged them and almost paid the ultimate price for my overconfidence. Anyway, we are alive and saved most of the people. Hopefully our good clerics were able to heal them enough to keep them alive."

He has both swords drawn, ready to dismantle the creatures when Myrridan releases the spell.

Aftermath -

Dead tree #1 -

From the fractured trunk, and older man covered in goo, slides forth, unmoving. The young woman cowering there cries out for help.
"Can someone please help him?"
Another citizen lays there quietly.

Dead Tree #3 -
A partially healed citizen lies there, awake and coughing.

Dead Tree #4 -
Two young women with a baby are now stood up, looking at Myrridan, hero worship written all over their features.
Three men lie on the ground nearby. They look to be suffering from the affects of some kind of paralyzation.

Dead Tree #5 -
The guard, paritally healed, is trying to sit up.

Some of the dead trees have spewed out bones, indicating that some citizens have been devoured. But compared to how many more could have been eaten, this battle has saved many people from that grisly fate.

The three remaining wortlings just stand there. 15 large fruit pods sit on the ground, intact, continuing to ripen.

As the Dragons assess the situation, a small hawk flutters down from the treetops. It changes shape, becoming the human greenmage figure of Axanor, trainee member of the Floating City druid group - the House of Elder.

He bows to the group. He looks apprehensive to say the least, and is out of breath.
"I have no wish to be the bringer of bad news," he says apologetically, "but I spied another one of these trees, about 100 yards along the shore. And I'm afriad thats not all. There's a spec in the sky that looks suspiciously like - oh crumbs...."

It comes like a wave.
Mighty.
Indomitable.
Hackle rising.
Stomach curling.

DRAGON FEAR.

A mighty shadow flashes overhead, as something flies past. Something big.

After attacking two of the remaining wortlings (see prior post), Onrad is set to continue at a slower pace (deactivate boots of speed). He moves over to a grouping of pods. But then comes Anaxor. Another wortling-maker a hundred yards off? And these blasted fruit pods. Onrad jumps to, and with his rapier begins slicing and dicing the pods. No more wortlings need ripen. It gives him something useful to do until the dragon lands...

She lets the others go about the business of taking care of pods and wortlings. She sheaths her rapier as she suddenly feels a chill work it's way up her spine. She looks up in time to see a shadow of a dragon fly over and she shakes her head.

Looking to Valdor as he speaks she nods and lays her hand upon him and turns her remaining powers into yet another spell. "Who else would be best to hit with my last stoneskin...I was thinking of Dahlia maybe?" She will then give out the last two stoneskins to whoever would be wisest to put them on.

Sunday July 10th, 2005 12:08:06 AM

Reckoning he'd start with Tree #1, Nick strides over, drawing on the blessed power of Alemi via a whispered prayer, he casts MASS CURE CRIT on the civilians there.
Heals HPS 38.

His stomach is churning with a multitude of emotions. Shock on how nasty these tree monsters were, how they 'ate' people; he was upset about the damage Valdor had taken, blaming himself for not taking right after him, and he was angry about how this went down in general. They'd been lucky by his reckoning. Waylaid and diffused by what was going on at the shore and the plight of the evacuees.

He needed to be stronger; more single-minded, more definitive, more in control. Would that have been so, had he taken that heart seed and become a servent of Ga'al?
'Alemi forgive me,' he whispers aloud.

Valdor's call for healing breaks into that chilling little thought.
He'll prepare 2 CURE CRITs - HEALING 37 and 40, and apply them to his leader over the next couple of rounds, on the move if necessary.

Dahlia
Sunday July 10th, 2005 8:21:31 AM

Looking over at Cori when her name is mentioned, she shakes her head and deactivates her ring.

"While the spell would be most appreciated. I am not normally a front line fighter." I am also usually quite difficult to hit and catch hold of. It would probably be of most use on Father Nicholas as we are in deep fecal material if we lose our healer."

((Guys, my apologies, I should have posted this Friday morning - the Chosen have discovered an artifact that might be of help in the final battle. DM Jan

Some of the civilians get healed, and Onrad and Dahlia start hacking away at the wortlings and pods. They are joined by one of the young women stood near Myrridan; she weilds a plain knife with a ferocity that would no doubt astound herself. Her eyes are narrow, focussed, staring hatefully at the pods as she stabs over and over. She is so engrossed that she doesn't even notice the dragon overhead.

Tericus will have seen the belly of a Black, as it swooped low overhead.

A few seconds later, the ground shudders and there is a *THUD*, as something very heavy lands a little further north along the shoreline.

Those civilians that can move, start to run, making a beeline for the shore. Two of them are screaming.

Tericus
Monday July 11th, 2005 9:12:38 AM

"Not this Black," Tericus tells Mordred after he hears the dragon land. "If it's who I think it is, he nearly wiped us out the last time we fought."

Dahlia
Monday July 11th, 2005 9:21:18 AM

Finished with her chopping, Dahlia quickly cleans her blades and takes out her crossbow and two black bolts. Loading one she turns toward the thump and awaits whatever is about to happen.

Valdor
Monday July 11th, 2005 10:52:14 AM

"Well, whichever it is, we need to try to avoid a fight. The city will suffer more than anyone and right now, with the fey king causing problems, he or she should be on our side. Let's go find out what it wants. We need to stay spread out, just in case so we don't all get hit with its breath at the same time.," Valdor says with resolve.

He starts heading towards the thump with speed, but not running. He grasps the hilt of his dragon sword for a morale boost.

Cori steps over and hits Nick with the other stonesking spell and gives him a smile. "Seems you are important." She laughs lightly as she winks to him, letting him know that he is a valuable asset.

As the others start to move in the direction of the dragon that has just landed she frowns. She knows that she is missing some details her but does not have time to ask about them right now. She slips back into that wil-o-wisp form and darts after the group though she does maintain some distance from the others as she goes and her glow is not present. This actually makes her invisible to everyone as she moves but it maybe a good idea at this time.

"Thank you, Cori," says Nick gratefully. His spell actions are still taken up with healing Valdor.

He also takes note of which civilians still need patching up. There's the quandry again, to heal folk or to head off into the fray.
"We'll be back," he assures those who were unable or unwilling to run off. "Take as much cover as you can."

Then he's off after the others.

The jungle proves to be it's usual unhelpful self as the group make their way toward the *THUMP*.
Tiny tendrils try and trip up the unwary, and poisons await any who stumble on the ground.
Up ahead, something shifts, like a wall of black and grey scales in amidst the foliage, and there's a strong scent of swamp and dead fish.

A break in the trees reveals the sweep of a massive tail. The creature is moving slowly ahead, trampling the undergrowth as it goes.

Onrad (by Kim)
Tuesday July 12th, 2005 5:16:11 AM

Onrad, leaving behind the sliced pods, moves off on the far left flank of the party, keeping rough pace with his comrades and friends as they approach the dragon.

Tericus
Tuesday July 12th, 2005 10:21:34 AM

"We need to catch up to it quickly if we're going to fight it." Tericus says to the others. "If it reaches any area of water, we wont have a chance."

Mordrd
Tuesday July 12th, 2005 10:23:02 AM

Mordrid looks at Tericus and tilts his head. The Storms were no slouches. "Thanks for the warning."

Mordrid takes flight above the group. Using "Woodland Stride" he makes his way thru the canopy of the forest. He also uses "Hide in Plain Sight" to gain 75% concealment.

Onrad
Tuesday July 12th, 2005 4:16:55 PM

{Thanks Kim! You did great! I'm back as of an hour ago}

Onrad seeing the others heading for the dragon, remains looking for anyone else needing help. He yells locations into the ring to the priests showing where the most injured are.

"Guys, I'm staying here to mop up. I'll teleport over with the clerics when we're done here. We'll be quick."

He uses his tumbling, going Total defense just in case (AC58), and starts bringing the injured to our priests.

Turning to one of the women who were fighting, he says, "Run to the where the crowd is, let them know that the threat of the trees and weird orcs is over and we could use a couple of priests to help us.

"Then assure them that we WILL deal with all threats as long as there are threats or die trying. So says the Platinum Dragons!"

[Didn't roll dice Jas as it's mop up stuff. Feel to roll anything for me that's needed. Good to be back. Great fun reading all this. Thanks again Kim!]

Valdor
Wednesday July 13th, 2005 12:50:13 AM

Valdor continues to move with speed and says,"Remember, we don't want to start a fight if we can avoid it. But, as Tericus says, if we must, then we have to hit it quickly and from all sides. No hesitation, no waiting to see what happens. To pause in a dragon fight is to die or cause the death of comrades."

DM Jan
Wednesday July 13th, 2005 2:01:05 AM

The Floating City guard, pulling his wits together after having had a couple of healing blasts, staggers toward Onrad.
"I'll get everyone out, make sure we get back to the main group."
The young woman who'd been stabbing in a frenzy is standing there, dazed.
There are only four civilians here, now, the others having made a run for it as soon as the dragon appeared.
Axanor the young greenmage, ever eager and obviously astounded, asks Onrad -
"The others are actually going 'after' that dragon? Can I come, too?"

A little further north, along the shoreline, about 100 yards away from the clearing full of evacuees, the jungle - its trees, flowers and vines - are crushed underfoot by massive feet and a sweeping tail.

Mordrid is first on the scene, airborne and partially hidden by trees.
The dragon is massive. Black scales are fading to grey around the shoulders and along the spine, suggesting a considerable age.
Its wings are arched and threatening, the bony ridge of its forehead is lined up and facing a now familiar oddity in the lush greenery.
There is a moment of stillness.
Then the dragon's huge head snaps forward. The jaws clamp firmly around the upper part of the orcwort's trunk, and there's an unholy scream as the plant monster is ripped out of the ground.
By the time the other Dragons arrive - thick vines are snapping desperately at the black dragon's snout, right before the dragon shifts, dips back, then hurls the entire tree, vines, pods an' all, into the lake.
The orcwort makes a splash some distance away, and sinks beneath the surface.
Half a dozen wortlings, their plant mind abruptly all muddled and irrelevant, begin to stagger off in all directions.

The dragon gives a snort.
Then turns.
The face is long and narrow, lacking the male width on the forehead between the eyes. Flesh and scales are sparse, bringing the bones into sharp relief, so much so that the face has a distinct, skull-like appearance. Twin horns, again, narrower than a male's, and with a more graceful curve, frame the face.
This dragon is a female.
Calculating grey eyes sweep the trees just once, and then she settles onto her haunches. Her tail dips into the water behind her. One drop. Just one, blood from a scratch on the lower snout, hits the forest floor. In seconds the scratch is closed and beginning to fade.
And she waits...

Dahlia  d20+5=21

Int roll 21

Making a leap of thought, Dahlia races to the front of the Platinums, turns to face them and then tells them to stop.

Turning to face the Female Black, she walks up to about 45 feet away and stops. looking at her a moment, Dahlia shakes her head and then speaks.

" You know you are a very puzzling lady. First you try and kill us, now you help us. I know you're not going to like to hear this, but I don't think you're as bad as you think you ought to be. I would also like to take this time to thank you for your help with this thing. "

"I am assuming you would rather not have this confrontation here and now, with all the Storms and Golds here together."

"I was also wondering if you had any knowledge about Ebryon that you would like to share with us. I will Vouchsafe you as long as you are willing to have a discussion that is mutually advantageous."

Tericus
Wednesday July 13th, 2005 9:23:43 AM

upon arriving at the scene and seeing the black for what she is, Tericus says to the others "Dahlia is right. Wait for a moment." then, walking up to where Dahlia is, Tericus gives a small bow and says "Thanks for your help, my lady."

Mordrid alights high in a tree and attempts to hide. (Hide 18 + roll 11 = 29).

The ranger casts cat's grace.

He listens in suprise as the group's back door fighter goes toe to toe with a dragon.

Onrad
Wednesday July 13th, 2005 4:25:05 PM

Onrad, reacts in shock to the greenmage. Not to what the Greenmage has said, but that it has affected him so profoundly. Tears burst to his eyes as he looks at the young man and for a second, sees his younger brother Konrad, who was killed somehow in a forest like this one called Culverwood.

He just stands there staring at the young man and then shaking his head and wiping his face says, "Being in the most important place at the most important time is not the heroic place to be. Note that I am not there either. I help here because here is where I can encourage and help the most. He sits the lad down on a log.

"When Plateau City began to flood last week, where do you think Valdor the greatest hero of us all went? To the High Lord Mayor? Diving pell-mell into the river to find the source?

"NO! He went to the lowest part of the city and began helping the homeless and poor fill sandbags to protect their families.

"You ARE a hero, my boy. And you have a new friend, here this day, if you'll have me. Stay here and help, with me. I have a ring. Should they need us, I'll be there instantly and you also will go.

To the guard, he says, "I'm not going yet. I can get there soon enough when needed. We dragons don't just fight the baddie and run to the next. Each life is important. I learned that lesson recently running around in the middle of a crisis concerned with "stuff."

"So we'll work together, this lad, the brave guards of the Float, and those of us dragons who remain.

"Gather those left here and we'll teleport them straight to the shore and relative safety.

He puts his arm around the dazed woman and wipes the hair from around her face. "Have faith. Drink this. He gives her some water to drink. We need your help."

Cori keeps her wisp light out as she flits around through the vines and trees. She stops as the rest do...well except for Dahlia and Tericus. There is an odd nagging at the back of her brain that she should know this dragon but cannot place it, so she gives up. Maybe it will come to her in time.

She is ever ready and ever watchful as she stays nearby but invisible to all.

While applauding Onrad's conduct with the survivors, Nick's own response is more business-like, cleric of Alemi or no.
Of the four that remain, he quickly attempts to assess what they require in terms of healing, supplies that need with a rapid whispering of spells.
He repeats his urge for them to get back to shore and the other evacuees.
"Onrad, if things go bad, they'll need me," he says, making clear his intention to get after Valdor and the others, now, if not sooner.
To Axanor he merely says - "Keep your head down. we don't know what we're dealing with yet."

Valdor(boots of speed, stoneskin)
Thursday July 14th, 2005 11:07:31 AM

Valdor doesn't speak, but move slowly and quietly around to one side of the dragon, opposite the others. He doesn't try to sneak, he just doesn't make his presence noted in case the dragon attacks. The dragon will be aware of a person, but might not know its him, so he can get off a full attack if the dragon attacks.

DM Jan
Thursday July 14th, 2005 11:50:50 AM

(Dahlia and Tericus are probably correct in their assumptions of who this might be, although if they are correct, they've never actually seen her in dragon form before.
They both saw the female with dark hair, back at the Float, jump into the water. Is this truly Dolores Solara, official representative of the Gold level, resident of Black Dragon castle, rumoured mate of Lathiese, and mother to the baby that Jus currently carries around with him? And if it is - what's her stake in all this?)

Eyes like honed granite bear down on Dahlia and Tericus for a long moment, but then they shift back to the trees, and her tail lightly taps the surface of the water. Body language to be taken any which way.
Although the thank-you's bring a satisfied rumble, she seems irked on Dahlia's subject of confrontation, and not being the most even tempered of the species -
"It's always about confrontation with you dragon knights, isn't it. All puffed up on your prowess and reputation."
Her nostrils flare. She hesitates.
"Never mind. You assume quite rightly that we have no time for any personal disagreements."
Her voice rumbles softly, like distant rolling thunder.
"You think this is it? We've won?" She jerks her head toward the trees. "I've flown out there, and there are more. I counted at least 90 - shuffling along, dropping their fruit as they go. They'll be here in a matter of days, and that - " her head swivels toward the leaning Floating City in the water - "that jewel in the lake, will be overrun, it's caretakers destroyed, it's streets covered in filthy jungle detritus, it's value diminished, and our home, destroyed."
Her tail slaps angrily in the water.

"As for Ebyron - what is more loathsome than powers and Gods who run amok? The moons tell me there is a solution. They also tell me to wait. The moons are proving to be annoying. Wait for what? Am I not patient enough? Must I now sit back and see all that I have, ruined?"
That rolling thunder in her voice seems to have drifted closer to the fore. She is clearly quite angry.

DM Jan - Addendum
Thursday July 14th, 2005 1:51:53 PM

Onrad and Nick have no trouble getting the civilians back to the clearing - where EVERYONE has seen the dragon, and EVERYONE wants to know whats going on. Folk are hunkered down behind barrels and other piles of provisions brought ashore.

At this point Onrad may feel a little tingle coming from his teleport ring. It's looking a little tarnished, and something stirs in his memory - the voice of Nonam, prickly and overly-patient.
It only works once a day...

Back behind the treeline where the dead orcworts lie, half a dozen giant beetles are making a meal of whats left of them, chewing away to their hearts content.

Over by the other Dragons, and the dragon, foliage on the ground is beginning to shift, as tiny blood-sucking tendrils of a plant indigenous to the jungle, strives in it's search for bare ankles and toes.
Up in the trees, Mordrid is kept company by two small parrots, also indigenous, come to see what all the fuss is about.

Nick
Thursday July 14th, 2005 11:27:17 PM

As soon as the civilians are safely delivered, he asks those around him to stay calm, stay low, find cover, and then takes off, fast, back toward where the rest of the group have gone, assuming Onrad is going that way too, or maybe not.
Nick didn't know how to answer everyone's questions, because he didn't know any answers. Not yet. Maybe the dragon had some answers, providing it hadn't fried everyone already.

Myrridan
Friday July 15th, 2005 12:56:50 AM

"Yes, I sensed the others too. These mangled few are only the first to converge on this area. As a steward of the Living Wold, and much like some us gathered here, my patience is also running quite thin." The druid darts a glance at the dragon. "As much as I hate the thought, we may need to cut off an arm to stop this disease from spreading to the body. I can't believe Im saying this!" After a short pause Myrridan continues, "Summoning forth the destructive vengence of the Storm will kill off much of the forest, but it may be the remedy to stopping or at least slowing down this menace." Myrridan looks to everyone else to see if they have any other suggestions to stopping such an overwhelming force. "Much will be lost, but uhh, nature has proven to be quite resilient." Myrridan mentions that after witnessing the little poisonous vines starting to creep forward. "Would you look at that," mutters the druid while observing the small plants tenacity with a bit of admiration.

Tericus
Friday July 15th, 2005 8:35:31 AM

placing a hand on Dahlia, Tericus says "Perhaps you should head back. Ive talked with My Lady before. I belive she'll be more resonable just dealing with me." then, turning back to Dolores, he says "Yes, we have our diffenences, my lady, but we both love our city. Can we figure out some way where we can work together? Seperatly we may not succede, but what on this Wold could stand up to your power with us supporting you?

OOC - im out of town until the 22. you guys have fun!

Dahlia
Friday July 15th, 2005 9:48:53 AM

"Geesh, everyone misunderstands what I am saying."

"Lady Solara, Had I meant to be antagonistic about this meeting, I would not have put away my weapons and approach you unarmed. I would hardly make a worthwhile appetizer for you. I will however withdraw for the time being, but I do not withdraw my offer of safety as long as we are conversing amiably. I pledge my life on that."

Looking up at Tericus she shakes her head and walks back to the rest of the group as Myrridan is talking of burning the wood.

"Myrridan, Ido not know how long it would take, but could we not by using these that we have already defeated, perhaps create a quick acting poison for use on them?"

Valdor
Saturday July 16th, 2005 11:47:52 AM

Valdor stays quiet while he listens to the others speak and says,"We are indeed on the same side here. And a battle is coming, don't doubt. It is good to know we are fighting together this time instead of on opposite sides. Lady, if you will, do what you can to keep those trees at bay. We are trying to find a solution to all of this and we are close. The pieces are falling together. The answer will be clear soon, I feel. Good luck to you."

Valdor, seeing that they have an ally here that is perfectly capable of handling the trees, says into his earpiece,"She has this under control. I think it's time to get to the bottom of this. We need to rest and get our bearings straight and put together the pieces we have now."

Valdor heads back towards the City to await all the others.

(Jan, do we know about all the other stuff going on, like Cori, Dahlia, and Jandar getting the sword from the Chosen?)

DM Jan
Monday July 18th, 2005 12:10:16 PM

An alliance?
Perhaps, although common sense dictates an uneasy one at best.

The black dragon grins, showing rows of jagged teeth at Myrridan's suggestion.
'Yesssss,' she drawls. 'Kill it. Kill it all.' It's accompanied by a tail thrash that slaps into the water, throwing up a spray that splashes everyone.
From her reaction to Dahlia, it may be that Tericus is perhaps being a little optimistic. It's hard to tell, because right now, this isn't a small, elegant, humanoid courtier. It is the monster - black-clad, bad tempered and fearsome.
Her mood isn't improved by Valdor.
'So sure, are you, proud Dragonstone? Pieces falling together? An answer will be clear soon? You're sounding horribly like a politician!
'Well, it's to be hoped that you prove to be more effective. There are lives and fortunes hanging on those answers. Lives and fortunes.
'I'll do what I can here, but by my reckoning, you have 5 days, then we'll see who the heroes are around here.'

She shifts her stance, flexing her wings, as if to leave.
Whatever she came to do here, the matter of mutual trust is still an unknown factor. It shows in her eyes and hangs in the air, perhaps raising a question amongst the group.
At what point would the urge to protect what she considered to be hers, diminish - becoming the more primal instinct of self preservation? At what point would she cut her losses? Hard to tell with dragons, the chromatics in particular.

Valdor will no doubt run into Father Nick, hurrying toward the group from the clearing.
At this point, a memory is stirred and floats to the surface of everyone's thoughts - that of Jandar, Cori and Dahlia's trip to the outskirts of Plateau City, and the artifact sword recovered.
Then there was the book.... and that odd 'thing' currently held for safekeeping back at the Cathedral of Light...

Puzzle pieces? And were there more?

Valdor grunts at her words and mumbles as he walks off,"Who ever said I was a hero? A hero is the farmer who plants every season, knowing a flood or hail storm or fire will destroy his crops and his livelihood, but he does it anyway. I just destroy things...it really kinda sucks, in my opinion."

Mordrid
Monday July 18th, 2005 5:08:53 PM

"As for destroying things...you are right, I only feel really useful when I have created something or working in my garden." She swallows and wipes away a tear that starts to move down her cheek. "I guess that there must be those willing to sacrifice for those that actaully are the heroes."

Myrridan
Tuesday July 19th, 2005 12:15:27 AM

Myrridan walks back with the rest. He continues to contemplate the ramifications of calling a storm that would unleash torrential acid rain, deafening thunder, lightning, bludgeoning hailstones and tornado-force winds. The thought of summoning such destructive forces makes him shiver. Definitely an act reserved for a last resort.

Meeting up with the others. He looks worried.
'Everything okay? Everyone back at the clearing seems pretty spooked."

Seemingly oblivious to Myrridan's thoughts of destruction, the jungle keeps up it's 'Don't let the door hit you on the way out' policy by infusing the surroundings with an unfriendly atmosphere; a little dark cloud that doesn't abate until everyone reaches the clearing.

As the Dragons clear the treelne, they're just in time to see the great black dragon take off and head in a north easterly direction over the lake.
There's a collective 'Ooohhhhhhh' from the crowd of evacuees, who are popping up out of their hiding places like rabbits.
No sooner is the dragon a mere spec on the horizon, then the group is bombarded with questions from old and young alike -
"What Happened? Is it safe now? Where did the dragon come from? What are we going to do? What about the City? Are you staying? Do you want to eat lunch? We have broth and dumplings and we're more than willing to share. Where did you get that sword from?" etc etc etc.
The evacuees are also very effusive with their thanks, and it's easy to see that those horrible trees had them terrified.

Elsewhere, some of the guards, and some of the big Trash Level half orc workers are beginning to set up camp.

Axanor comes bouncing over.
"I've just learned that the Circle of Eldar are working on a poison to weaken these vines."
He points toward the gigantic green columns, reaching out into the lake toward the City.
The City itself is still at a precarious angle, but doesn't appear to have gone further than it's current 45 degrees.

Cori listens as the citizens bombard the group with questions. She would very much like to take them up on some of that stew but she also knows that she is in need of rest as well. She glacnes to Valdor and the rest as she pulls up short and looks to the city and its tip. "Do we stay for awhile?" She is exhausted and does not really care at this time.

"I suggest that we establish a base," says Nick. "Here, or Plateau - anywhere - and let people know where we are. Maybe put out a few messengers, see whats going on?"

He's clearly frustrated by whats going on.

Valdor
Wednesday July 20th, 2005 12:58:48 PM

Valdor smiles at Mordrid wearily and replies,"Oh well, we all have to be political at times, I guess. I don't hate politicians overall...I hate the manipulation and lying to better themselves while hurting and casting down others. It's better, in my opinion, to have a king who makes all final judgments, as long as that being stays focused and caring about what's good for the masses and not just the nobility. However, that rarely happens and I'm not in the mood for a good debate today."

He nods to Cori and Nick and then steps forward to the people standing around and says with his voice booming,"Dear people of Floating City! Due to the courage of your guard, the aid of a black dragon surprisingly enough, and a little of our help, the current threat is gone. However, I must be honest when I tell you that more will be coming. We must draw back to a defensible position and all people must be kept back, away from the forest tonight. Barriers should be set up quickly and your local army set up with flaming arrows and flammable oils. These should destroy the trees if they get here during the night. Trenches should also be dug a few feet in from the the treeline now, before they get close. It could pose a problem of advancement, or it might not. But, it could have oil poured into it and it could be lit with a flaming arrow before they get in close. Anyway, we must rest now and are in need of some messengers to send around the Wold. Preferably those registered with your local guilds. Please come see us in one hour."

He looks at Nick and asks,"Will you and Onrad handle sending them out? I am about to fall over. Onrad is from here, so he knows the ropes, and it was your idea. Whoever else wants to help is welcome, but I'd imagine Cori, Myrridan, Tericus, and Dahlia need to sleep for spells. Mordrid may be fine but probably tired. Of course, after you are done with the messengers, we all need sleep."

He looks frustrated and tired. Not too often has anyone, even Mordrid, seen him like this.

The people of the Floating City take on board the news of more Orcworts with a grim determination. The beginnings of a perimeter are established, and turtle barges are sent back to the City for supplies of pitch, oil, anything that burns.
Folk start to work with a purpose.

Mid camp, there's a mobile soup kitchen set up. Someone's actually brought over an oven and the smell of baked bread is mouth-watering. There's a place to rest here, too, where the Dragons won't be disturbed.

More people come pouring in from the City. They have nothing but bad news. Collapsed buildings, plants run amok, friends, neighbours and relatives killed or missing.

Seven hours later...
Night begins to fall, and nature puts on a display. Fireflies dance in amongst the trees, and out on the lake, phosphorescent algae shines just beneath the surface of the water in an array of pinks and purples.
The City, still lit on the Open Air level, sits on the water like an up-ended, glittering, giant jewel box. Quite a few folk have lit campfires near the water, and are sat looking out toward the lake, admiring the display.
The turtlemen and their turtles are still working non-stop, and a steady stream of lit barges are bringing forth people and supplies.

Older children are given tasks as soon as their feet touch the ground. As for the younger ones, they have their own way of dealing with the tragedy, and take to following some of the Dragons around - Valdor, Gareth, Onrad, and Dahlia in particular.

Those setting up the perimeter are full of questions about the creatures the group fought.

At one point in the evening, a cloaked young man approaches Dahlia discreetly.
"I hear you're wanting messengers? And those who can seek out information?"

Dahlia
Wednesday July 20th, 2005 6:33:42 PM

The little halfling looks at Valdor a bit strangely when he suggests that she need to sleep to regain spells. "I am no caster of spells Valdor and you know it. I am indeed a bit weary from hopping here and there and all about but I am plenty ready to go tackle a few more of those tree things if you like.

Mordrid
Wednesday July 20th, 2005 10:30:18 PM

Mordrid watches over the digging of the defenses; pleased with the idea, and the results.

Mordrid also sees that a tent is set up for the Platinums. He insists that everyone sleeps.

Before stumbling thru the sand towards bed, he stops by Valdor at camp side, "Valdor, I think it's time we seriously consider moving the city."

Corialote
Wednesday July 20th, 2005 10:49:38 PM

Cori sits for awhile eating a bowl of stew and munching on a piece of bread. She watches the grim determination of the people as they start to set up defenses and smiles some. They knew what was coming and were willing to face it with what force they could muster.

When she can bring herself to move from the spot she is at she thanks the lady for the stew and moves off to find Valdor. Hopefully she will get there to hear Mordrid speak as she nods her head as well. "He is right...we should at least try to get the noncombatants out of here at first light." Her face darkens as she tries to wrap her mind around what it will take to accomplish that and shudders. "Still where do we go with that many people...with so little time?" She looks to both men as she speaks or to just Valdor if Mordrid is not present. As she makes a decision she nods to Valdor and moves off to the tents that were set up for them. "I will make it a point to have some teleport spells ready...should I also have some spells ready to help in setting up defenses here, such as digging trenches and the like?" She is trying to figure out if the Platinums will make a stand here or what but cannot bring herself to ask it bluntly...there are ears listening that could make the morale of the citizens here drop...she does not want to do that.

When at last all things are discussed she will head off to get some well needed sleep...though she knows that she will be up in two hours rested as if she had spent the night. She smile as she thought of the uses of magic and magical items.

Myrridan
Thursday July 21st, 2005 12:44:34 AM

Myrridan nods with Valdor's suggestion about getting some sleep. He replies, "Its not so much I need to sleep to prepare my spells. It's the fact that Im exhausted."

Its easy to see. The druid looks completely deflated. His vestment, armor and cloak are merely hanging off his slumping body. He appears to be depending more on his staff's support to remain upright.
