Bohdi Nackle (illegal second) Wednesday June 29th, 2005 4:19:36 PM
"Nauthiz'Ull, wunjo, are you sun-baked?!" the gnome exclaimed. He paused for a moment and half-cocked his head, as if listening to his own mixed use of slang, then plowed ahead heedlessly. "We're not going anywhere but up at this point. The ants can wait for our descent."
Tishe' Wednesday June 29th, 2005 4:33:33 PM
The furry outer coverings are a bother, but Tishe' is able to get herself on Trellus' back and delights in the sight of him walking on air. "And I thought dancing on air was merely an expression", she tells the others.
As she arrives at Mac, a quick weave of her hands and the big 'taur can fly for five minutes. Another pause at Grymash and the big half-orc can fly as well.
She awaits both packs at the top of the Ice Fall, and wonders about the Ice Ants. "I would just as soon not go visit these ants. The last ones we visited tried to enslave us then kill us." She remembers infernos of fire, mandibles, and poisoned stingers with horror. "Nearly killed us all."

Flea shakes her head in confusion, as the one called Nauth says the group should go back down, and then Bohdi says they should keep going up. Then Trellus air-walks by with Tishe' on his back.
Remembering the ants from the pack's last encounter, Flea has no desire to meet any of their kin. "Can we keep pushing ahead?" she enquires tremulously, feeling vulnerable and exposed clinging to the side of the cold mountain.
The rogue looks about for any kind of a nook or cranny, ledge, or cave that might provide a respite from the awful climb. (Search=21, Spot=15)

Gilan watches with interest though he gets the idea that some of the Icepack want to go back down the mountain, maybe they forgot something that they needed to do. Still it looks like Trellus is wanting to push on but is that a wise idea. He suddenly wishes that he could understand things while wildshaped.
Checking out the nice flat spot he is sitting on as an owl he wonders if it would be wise to take on his human shape for at least a few.

Beyond the Ice Falls Thursday June 30th, 2005 9:28:09 AM
A breif discussion about returning to visit the Ice ants ensues in the middle of the Falls. Most want to continue the climb and with the Pack's last Ant encounter, none are really pro Ice Plan. The Wind Walk and Fly spells soon haave everyone on top of the Ice Fall and with Gilan, who is still in owl form.
The climb of Burfell continues and though the path remains narrow and steep there is little ice or snow. Unfortunately that is due to the constant winds the scour the mountain side clean. Like millions of quills striking exposed skin the wind whips at the group as they porceed higher. Physical stamina is pushed to its limits as the climb is not technically challenging at all, but an endurance test. Step after step is conquered and Burfell still looms beyond the masking clouds. The only testimony to the group having made any progress is the view. The Tundra rolls out from you, like a great white blanket. This time he keeps his mind on business at hand though, but the pull is there and he can feel his defenses waning. He flies on up the mountain and finds what must be the cave so he lands outside of it. Changing back to his human form he hudles under a blanket as he waits, rocking back and forth trying to keep his mind occupied. The short woman turns her back on the wind, the icy needles striking through her skin like a tapestry needle through a skien. "Ow!" she cries. The movement through the terrible wind saps her strength, her stamina, and her morale, and she sees the Ice Bridge with nothing short of relief.
And crossing the bridge, the brown eyes try to stay on the far side, but her curiosity eats her like a moth in a closet. She would've thought nothing of moving across until the Ice Wunjos told her NOT to...
Looking at the mountain of Burfell, and is amazed at the dizzying heights of the mountain. "It looks like glass!" she says, "so beautiful!" (Will: 28).
The mountain was so beautiful, she wants to know what is below the icy bridge, and looks down... "By the weavings of my mother, that is a long way down..." the small woman nearly takes a couple steps backwards, but remembers that she is on a narrow icy bridge and that might be a bad idea (Will: 18)
Getting her attention back on the job at hand (and curiosity satisfied) the brown haired mage continues to the other side.
Trellus d20+10=15 Thursday June 30th, 2005 8:38:00 PM
Bent forward, Trellus pushes into the wind. Head down, eyes squinted, mouth tightly closed, the cleric wills himself forward through the piercing nettles of wind.
The tundra opens before them, a white expanse. "Shady," the blond man say appreciatively.
The trail is not shady. Trellus is painfully aware of his balancing abilities and crams himself against the rock wall as he moves forward. He has no intention of looking down. The dome of Rattledam is high enough for him, and he's pretty sure this is going to be a lot higher.
Not looking up, however, seems too bright. What if some creature is up there? And then Tishe does her thing.
So Trellus glances up the mountain...and nearly backs right off the trail as his eyes try to find the top of it. [Will 15]
"Light!" he gasps.
"The Ice Dudes are right," he tells his friends. "If you look up, it goes so high that you want to take a step back." He grins wryly. "And it'll be an awful long step. Just keep your eyes level."
Having said his piece, the cleric reaches back into his HHHaversack and pulls out a potion. He pulls the cork and walks with his thumb acting as a stopper. Trellus has been friends with Jake for a very long time. There is no way the half elf is gonna weave the entire length of this trail without taking a look around.

Flea had heard advice like the ranger's before, and it usually meant a denial of her inherent curiousity.
Don't dawdle, Flea" from her mother whenever they went into town and she would drop her mother's hand to rush to the windows of the shops and press her nose against the glass to see what was inside. "Keep your eyes on the prize, Flea" from old Sarlin. This meant keep your nose in the books when through the window of her room a lovely spring day tempted her out of doors.
Flea looks into Bohdi Nackle's blue eyes. His pupils are so large and dark! she thinks, makes him look like a lonesome puppy. When the gnome leading her along turns away for a second, Flea can't resist, and looks up. Something, a glint of glass or sunlight metal winks at her from the dizzying heights above and she starts to back up, slipping over the edge of the 15ft path. (Will Save=4, failed). "Aaauugh!" shouts the gnome as her arms windmill and she struggles to catch her balance. (Balance=19) Lurching forward she wraps her arms around Bohdi, crying out, "Get me out of here!"

"Got you," he breathed in her hair, still holding her close. His heart splashed inside his chest. "Got you. I've got you. I've got you."
Flea's hair smelled warm and fresh, like the distant memory of wildflowers on the plains. Bohdi held her, not letting go, not ever moving, and the ice and wind fell away. There was nothing else in the Wold for him in that moment, that warm shell of humanity.

Anuk has learned over the last week to listen to Nauth's advice, and for the first while he is able to keep his eyes level with the trail and the others. Then, he hears Flea's shout behind him. He turns and scans the area, instinct and habit taking over as he searches for sources of danger. Unfortunately, in doing so he looks down and his stomach lurches. "Gyaahhh!" he blurts out as the vast emptiness pours out before him. "Light! What is that?!...er...uh...rather what isn't that?" he asks nonsensically. He fights the urge to peer further into the abyss (will 15) and manages to keep to the trail.
Nauthiz'Ull Friday July 1st, 2005 1:26:59 PM
The ranger knows deep down that his words of wisdom may provoke a couple of the Bloodpack to their deaths. He remembers when Ull'Heimdall told him stories of this very same spot. Stories of how one of the villagers could not stop looking up, even when they were laying at the bottom with body shattered.
"Please DO NOT let your eyes stray!."
The muscles of Nauth's legs begin pumping acid as the trek continues. Never before would he have believed that he could do this, but since Frigg'Isa left him he has nothing else to do and nothing else to live for.
Why not? What do you have to lose stupid boy?

Aiden quietly followed the others, making sure to watch their steps, and readying himself for any emergencies. These people were from a land of sun, and the glare of the ice, and the vastness of the terrain 'could' awe them.
Looking over towards the ork, ~well most of them...~ he thought to himself. Reaching the path, he took a moment to look upwards, to better gauge how much was left for them to traverse.
It was awe-inspiring, enough so, that if he had been less attentive, he could have found himself in a very, very bad situation, a highly idiotic (and dishonorable) death.

The troop moves across the bridge with little incident. Despite the warning, several are overcome with curiosity and gaze up or down the the expanse of Burfell's height and her depths. None however close, end up in too serious of trouble that some adrenaline and time didn't cure. As promised the cave is reached in short order past the bridge and the promise of warmth and a good rest lies within.
Gilan sits in owl form waiting the party, the song of the mountain still clear in his head. Promises of freedom, power and unbridled bliss ring in his ears. As the large group approaches Gilan hears it first and the rest soon spot the source of the sound, a human male in his mid thirties is moving towards the entrance from the far reaches of the deep cave.
Clothed in multiple wolf hides, but not near as protected as the travellers, he is moving cautiously with a short sword in one hand and a spear in the other. His tall solid looking frame is well covered, but he wears no gloves, hat or scarf and is obviously weakened from exposure.
Behind him is a small girl in similar garb, a short sword in her hand as well. A myrriad questions errupt within the cranium of the sense-numb young man. Without thinking he bows respectfully to Úlf-warja'Ingr and pulls Ull'Heimdall's bow from his shoulder.

He smiles to the group though he has a troubled look upon his face, as if he wars with personal emotions. "What took you so long?" It is said in half jest but he is not sure how some may take it so he lets a little laughter slip into his voice as well.

Aiden d20=20 Sunday July 3rd, 2005 1:14:33 PM
Aiden's reply was quite gruff, so it wasn't entirely 'clear' if he was joking.
"People were enjoying the view..."
Then turning towards the older man, there was a mixture of pity (and amazement) that someone of his age would travel through the lands with such pitiful coverings. That and the fact that his instincts were off, Aiden 'was' a Tusker, or at least born and raised within that village.
He then noticed the being behind him, obviously not a female child given the proportion of her limbs, feet and hands. Her face also seemed to carry a bit more than childhood innocence....or perhaps that was just the cynical side of Aiden's appearing.
In the village of Twin Tusks, sometimes warriors would bring back slaves, those that were of able bodies. Other times they would speak of the weak that were culled, such as the 'halflings', who were smaller creatures, usually fleet of foot and wit.
"Aiden..." he bespoke, hoping that by keeping his talk to a minimum, the older man would not hear the different intonations that someone of Twin Tusks would have in their speech. At least in comparison to those from Ice Peaks.
Quietly, he moved over to Gilan. Whispering, "Do you have any magicks to help to bring more warmth to the old man and halfling?"

"Last time we were in this cave, there was a spirit of a dead village girl from Ice Peak," Bohdi explained to Flea in a whisper. Bohdi spotted nothing out of the ordinary as they regarded the little girl with a shortsword--nope, nothing out of the ordinary there! (Spot 10)--but something about the circumstance triggered a dim memory of a tale he was told when first entering the village. Doubtless Da'Grul or his like had told the little gnome the tale over a cup of ice wine--of a hunter who had sought Frigga' and Nauth's father on the ice. Nauthiz'Ull's words only confirmed Bohdi's suspicions.
"So you're Úlf-warja'Ingr', eh?" the gnome asked. "Bohdi Nackle of Zander City, at your service," he bowed elaborately. "Bloody cold getting up here again. You have a fire?"

Harrowing Escapes Tuesday July 5th, 2005 12:39:01 PM
The man names himself to the group "I am Úlf-warja'Ingr' of Ice Peak and I it is good to meet friends. This," now pointing to his half frozen companion is Mund-Skjolta Snowburrow. The familiar hand and rituals of Domi would be most welcome. We have little wood left." Trellus discovers many things that he is unfamiliar with, but Garret easily fills in the blanks. Frosbite. Black patches of skin where the blood has literally frozen in the body, dots his extremities and large slicks of frozen blood cake his back and legs. Wolf bites, many of them. Mund-Skjolta Snowburrow, a halfling, is cold and tired but little else is physically the matter with her. It is obvious that Úlf-warja'Ingr' has been out in the freezing temperatures for much longer periods of time and is now paying the price.
As the clerics clean and inspect the old wounds, he spins the tale of thier survival.
"Several days of searching had produced no sign and most hope was gone. Ull'Heimdall was a great hunter and mentor, so I pushed on with Frey'Ull. It was a day later we found his bow. I sent Frey back and continued on what I hoped to be a new trail. I was beset by Tuskers two days later and brought to their village. For these past years I have endured much, but always too closely watched. Then not long ago the Wold shook the village to sunder, the ground tore open and a pillar of death rose into the sky. The camp was in disarray and in the confusion I made my escape. Mund and many others were doing likewise and several of us found each other in the chaos and I lead them. The air quickly became thick and deadly, and the weaker fell where they walked. The Tuskers panicked and started slaying any they could find. We quickly grabbed a few fallen weapons and meager protection and fled. Only Mund and I in the small group arrived at Burfell. We scaled the East slope and came to this cave, where I knew caches had always been stored by the Kheldra Flower hunters. I have been out far too long, but better protection and food was to be needed for the track across the tundra to home. The Wold has gone mad, The mountain is split in the East, a Great fissure that reeks of death and it draws death to it. I have seen many Bevorern Doden and they all move to this place. If you are here to save the Wold, then I have seen the land of shadow into which you must march."
Trellus soon discovers one other hardship in the Ice Vien as he applies magical healing. The harsh frozen blood, what Garret called Frostbite, does not heal. The wolf attacks are readily mended, but teh toll the elements take seems to be harsher.

Mund-Skjolta d20+4=8 Tuesday July 5th, 2005 3:28:02 PM
The small halfling peers around the much larger body of Úlf-warja'Ingr' and surveys the scene in front of her. Keeping a not so steady hand on her short sword, she pushes a lock of dark hair from her face.
Taking a good look at the group, she sees a couple of faces that look slightly familiar, but no names come to mind. Inwardly shrugging, she moves the matter to the back of her mind and concentrates more on what is going on in front of her. (Sense Motive 8)
Large black eyes give the interesting group the once over and Mund-Skjotla stops and stares at the half-orc. Her eyes seem to grow even larger and a small squeak escapes her lips. Tears begin to quickly fall down her cheeks and she begins to back up slowly, shaking her head from side to side, a small mewing sound coming from her throat.
Gilan d20+8=13 Tuesday July 5th, 2005 8:18:04 PM
Gilan nods his head to Aiden. "I have my endure elements wand that will come in handy to stave off what they could endure." His brow furrows as he looks around and shakes his head. "Do we have anymore wood...even if it is slightly damp I can take care of that in a few miutes." He nods his head again to Aiden. "I have use of a gift that will allow me to produce fire...I can dry wood or start a fire in short order...maybe faster than normal means." Looking to the man he listens as he speaks and Trellus aids him to the best of his ability. He does pull out the wand and hands it to Trell. "Endure elements." That is all he says as he makes his way over to lay his pack down.
Once inside the cave he will produce some wood from his pack that he has been saving...some of it is actual firewood and some is still rather plain but obviously for another purpose. He sighs as he lays the firewood into a pile and then falls into nature's power. His hand is soon wreathed in fire and he drops a ball of flame upon the wood. "That should do fine and if you have more wood that can be lit...this spell will last for some time." He glances to the small child and notices her stare and obvious state of about to run. It is easy to tell that Gry is her reason and he motions to Flea and Tishe' with a roundup call, pointing to the little girl. "Gry...check to see if we brought any of that wood from the sled."
Trellus Tuesday July 5th, 2005 9:15:13 PM
Trellus takes the wand from Gilan with a silent nod. He pauses, looking at the man's wounds. Frostbite, Garrett called it. Probably the opposite of Heat Blistering. The cleric sighs. So many ways to get cut by the weather.
Trellus tries the wand on both man and halfling, although he's rapidly losing faith in the Bloodpack's ability to alter the cold in any way. Something here seems to prevent it.
At the man's description of a great fissure and undead being drawn to it, Trellus looks up to catch Grymash's eye. "Many are kept from Gargul," he tells his friend. He turns back to the old man, "Well, dude. If this Death place is new, its probably where we're supposed to be going. How far is it?"

"Well, we'll go deal with these undead things, if'n that's what it takes ta get us back ta Rattledam," Jake announces courageously.
Garrett d20+7=9 Wednesday July 6th, 2005 8:57:02 AM
Garrett tends the wounds of the travelers as best he can(heal 9), introducing himself as he does so.
"My names Garrett. You can be at ease girl, none here will hurt you."
Not sure what else to say, Garrett turns attention back to the frostbite. Talking aloud as much to himself as to anyone else interested. "It's surprising how the cold and the heat can be similar in their extremes. Just as flame can burn the flesh until it turns black and falls off, the cold can freeze the flesh until it turns white, then black, and dies. Magical healing does not work on the frostbite because the flesh is dead, and once something is dead......" Garrett stops talking as he realizes this is probably not the best subject matter to be rambling on with.
Mac Wednesday July 6th, 2005 8:57:53 AM
The big taur nods in agreement with Jake.
Nauthiz'Ull Wednesday July 6th, 2005 9:24:10 AM
Some way, some how Nauth feels like he just swallowed a troll and it got caught in the back of his throat. Nothing really mattered to the dark skinned ranger as he only had one question ressounding in his mind.
Could Úlf-warja'Ingr' know where my father is, or where his pressence was last felt?
Nauth's face grew white hot and his ears began pulsing with amuddled ringing that matched his heart beat. Barely hearing his words the lithe young man turns towards his wunjo and stares.
"The prophecy tells us taht we must separate from the pack of blood when the time is right wunjo. Keep that in mind. As for the Bevroren Donden, well, I htink we can stall with them a while longer."
Turning to look over the others Nauth will take the time to offer his hand/forearm to Úlf-warja'Ingr' as is custom. He will also place his forehead to Úlf-warja'Ingr's and whisper many thanks for his brave hunts to find Ull'Heimdall.
The rest of the evening Nauth can be found hanging onto every word of the great hunter and he will give over extra food to him as well.
Anuk d20+11=19 d20+11=27 Wednesday July 6th, 2005 4:00:38 PM
Úlf-warja'Ingr's story of the fissure and the dead who are approaching it piques Anuk's interest. "Where exactly is the fissure? How do we reach it from here?" he asks in his excitement as he thinks of completing whatever task they've been brought here to do and then returning home. He goes to the cave entrance to see if he can see any signs of the cataclysm Úlf-warja'Ingr' described. (spot 19, listen 27)
The halfling's mewling catches Anuk's attention and he turns to see her. The look on her face reminds him of the children they found on the beach. "You uh...you okay? Gry looks tough, but he's just a big softy," he tries to reassure her, but worrying that Gry's talk about blood is probablyl undercutting his point.
A Night of Rest Thursday July 7th, 2005 2:23:40 AM
The halfling backs from the group, eyes like saucers, fixed on the towering half orc warrior and fear of rmembered pain and hardships beyond desciption in her eyes. Some wood is still available and a fire is quickly brought to life by Gilan, though the wood supply is very low, it should last the night.
Flea's eye falls about the rather deep cave and in the far corner she spies a small dagger still half buried in the snow. old and showing signs of rust she gently picks it up. the handle is carved of bone in the shape of a woman the blade stained with blood. Flea Highlight to display spoiler: { a female voice sad and young speaks to your mind 'We were to be married. they ....they took the heads as trophies...half orcs" the voice once soft and forlorn tunrs to bitter hate and the touch of death can be felt ber the gnome, "Death to them, slow and bitter. Like the winter's frost.}
Many take Úlf-warja'Ingr's story of the great fissure as the means to the end of their Cold exile and the hunter nods at the groups thought of going to the fissure. "I can tell you how to traverse Burfell to find it on the East face, but I fear I will not be able to make the journey. My time here is close to completion. I have seen young Mund safe to your hands. It wil be to you now." He continues with a trail description that you can follow to find the fissure. Úlf-warja'Ingr clasps Nauthiz'Ull weakly, a symbol of great bonding to the young ranger as he realizes who Nauthiz'Ull truly is. "I can see your fathers spirit in you young one. Be proud and of sure heart Wunjo."
He then slumps into a deep sleep. It is obvious to all that he has probably been awake for many days despite the fairly grevious injuries he has suffered.
Jake Thursday July 7th, 2005 7:11:55 AM
"Poor old guy..." Jake shakes his head. "Well, ah have this ta say about your people, Icemen, they're all heroic. Sturdy stuff, and hardy." As far as Jake's seen, everyone in this society seems to be tough wilderness survivors. It's not like Rattledam, where the protectors keep everyone safe...

Tears fill the ranger's eyes as Úlf-warja'Ingr' words are spoken. A quick squeeze before the weathered man falls asleep and and Nauth moves to kneel in front of him.
Busying himself with trying to cover Úlf-warja'Ingr' and keep him as warms as possible {survival-23}, Nauth tries his best to use the knowledge that his sister Frigg'Isa taught him about healing {heal-22} to help him out as much as possible.
Once Nauth feels that Úlf-warja'Ingr' is as good as he is going to get tonight he will spend the rest of the night trying to keep enormous half-orc distant from the freightened halfing.
"Hey Gry, wanna learn about the bad creatures of our lands? I know of beasts who can feel you move from under the ice for miles away. Also, those who are kept from Gargul in these lands, we call the Bevroren Donden and their touch is colder than our lands. Come sit by me and keep watch big friend. Tell me your ideas of Gargul as his hand has played every part of my life like a game. I owe him much."
The last words of the ebony skinned young man seem to be muddled with reverance and anger and he leaves the half-orc with the ambiguous statement in hopes to peak his curiosity. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nauth will talk of everything he knows about his lands as a way to keep his mind off of Frigg'Isa and Úlf-warja'Ingr'. He is also curious about Gargul and his realm. Know:nature-23 Survival-27 weather Know:Geography-11 recall the path that Úlf-warja'Ingr' told of
Bohdi Nackle d20=8 Thursday July 7th, 2005 1:31:45 PM
Bohdi regarded the dying old man sadly. He looked at the halfling girl sympathetically. "Don't worry love, you'll be safe with us ... as much as any of us," he added in a barely audible mutter.
Bohdi crossed to Garrett's side. "Anything that you can do for the old man?" he asked, and, in a quieter voice, he added, "And, um, I was wondering ... does Domi have any view on, um ... commitments? You know ... like ... between a man, and a woman? I -- I have this friend, see, back in Zarnan City, and he wrote a letter about this gnome he was seeing, and ... um ... well ... he was asking me some questions about it." The gnome blushed visibly, (Bluff, untrained, 8) and his motives were not hard to guess.
Gilan {greater magic fang} Thursday July 7th, 2005 4:51:03 PM
Gilan slips off to one side of the cave and lets the others talk. He pulls some rations out of his pack and munches as he listens to nature outside. With a last sip of water he puts his stuff away and then pulls his legs together, sitting in a cross-legged style.
Closing his eyes he lets his mind wander to Mother Wold and the very nature of this area. He tries to make sense of all the little calls that he has been having over the past couple of days. What does it mean? Who is it that calls him? He can still feel the surge of power that comes to him every once in awhile and though it thrills him it also makes his worried. What has changed in Mother Wold and why is she seeming to pass out power that her followers have not earned?
Mac d20+5=15 d20+1=10 Thursday July 7th, 2005 5:32:20 PM
The talk of tomorrow's trek puts the taur more and more of a mind to get people rested.
He coaxes Galea out of her pocket under the furs for a feed and play, but the kitten knows where the warmth is. Soon after the feeding and other neccesities she is clambering back towards the pocket, and quickly purring contentedly.
Despite the few conversations in progress, he has one ear on Nauth and Gry, and all else focused at and beyond the entry to the cave. [Spot:15, Listen:10]
Garrett d20+4=12 Thursday July 7th, 2005 5:53:25 PM
Garrett looks sadly at Bohdi. "I'm sorry. There is nothing I can do for him this night, as my spells are used to keep everyone from freezing. Even if I had a little healing, I really doubt that it would do much good. I think his spirit is ready to go, his body will simply be left behind."
Garrett listens intently to Bohdi's question regarding the union of two a smile starts at the corner of his face(sense motive untrained: 12)(assuming that Domi does, and that I am allowed to preside over such a ceremony Garrett says the following). "Well, in that case Wunjo, both people would have to declare their intent to be joined, and I would be honored to unite them. I have never done it before, but I think I could do a fair enough job.... Even out here in the middle of the vein."
Garrett became serious once he began talking of the honor of presiding over a union, but couldn't help from smiling as he felt the joy that his friend had found.
Trellus Thursday July 7th, 2005 6:53:17 PM
The blond haired man taps the old man with the wand of Endure Elements Gilan lent him. Perhaps it may help a little.
The halfling is obviously scared of Grymash. Trellus grimaces to himself. The reaction isn't all that uncommon among folk Gry meets, and he knows his friend is often hurt by the assumptions of others.
The cleric jumps on Nauth's comment and tries to get the half-orc involved in the man's question. "Bet he'd like to hear about our meeting with the Great Lord," he prompts.
It appears that the group will be spending the night here. Trellus suggests shifts of Garrett and Jake, Grymash and Nauth, Trellus and the halfling, Flea and Bohdi, Mac and Aiden, and Gilan and Tishe.
Grymash Thursday July 7th, 2005 8:48:58 PM
Grymash's weary eyes light up. He pulls off his horned helmet and begins to tell his story. "Yeahh, Gry meet mighty Gargul. Gry be Gargul's favorite. Gargul once gave Gry da powers ta shout at da dead an make thems life again!! Gry do dat to uh gurl at Rattledam an Flea in uh cave. Gargul no let Gry shout Mac back ta life. Mac be uh demontaur. Dat when Gry see Gargul. He be one big beater. Shady to da hilt. Gargul can hack, an chop da best. Maybe dat why Gargul be god over all dead and little born babies an life. Gry laid double axe at da Gargul feet. Gargul like, an gave back ta Gry. See, Gargul touch axe here, an here ... oh, an here! Wanna touch da axe? Gargul always be wit Gry. Gry find ta be closer to Gargul when fightin'. In da struggle an fight for life, Gry feels mores alive. Bein' at da edge of death. After uh bloody fight, air breaths better, food taste better than gute. Blood be redder. Heart beat faster. Da struggle for livin' against da death give life all da meaning. Gry dream 'bout swimmin' down da river of blood when Gry's time come, but tills then Gry wills fight for life till da day da big axe fall on Gry."
Grymash goes on and on about Gargul. His stories continue on at what seems hours and hours.
Anuk d20+11=17 d20+11=14 Thursday July 7th, 2005 11:38:42 PM
Listening to Gry's stories, a shiver runs down Anuk's spine, but not from the cold. He remembers the visit to Gargul...the rivers of blood...the dark...the stifling, unending heat. In his heart, he is proud to have been part of the reason Mac returned to life, but it is not an experience he wishes to go through again.
He approaches the mouth of the cave and looks out into the darkness (spot 17, listen 14) but all the talk of Gargul gets him thinking and wondering. In a low voice he asks Mac, "So...what was it like? Bein' dead, I mean."
Flea Friday July 8th, 2005 12:32:04 AM
Wandering to the back of the cavern, Flea finds a fanciful dagger and picks it up.
'We were to be married...they...they took the heads as trophies...half orcs" the soft, forlorn voice sounds in her head. Then it changes, so bitter, Flea can feel the hate, 'death to them. Slow and bitter. Like the winter's frost.'
Eyes wide, Flea makes her way back to the party, holding the dagger as far away from her body as possible. "Ah! Ah! Ahhh!" she cries as she feels the unknown female's pain. "A terrible thing happened in this place!" the gnome drops the dagger on the ground, and backs away staring at it. "The knife! I...I...think it was used for some terrible purpose!"
Flea will tell the group how she heard a female voice demand vengence for deaths, and that the perpetrators took the victims heads as trophies.
(OOC: Mikey, can you confirm that you got Flea's PC sheet?-Carla)
Mac Friday July 8th, 2005 2:59:42 AM
Mac looks at Anuk with one eye, and in a sigh replies, "Not like I'd thought...", but that's is as far as he gets before Flea returns with the dagger.
"A curse!" he intejects at an appropriate(ish) moment, and looks to the voice(s) of Domi for agreement.
Mund-Skjotla Friday July 8th, 2005 11:49:17 AM
The frightened halfling cowers in a corner of the cave, her wide dark eyes never leaving the large half-orc. If she hears the others she gives no sign of it.
Jake d20+15=20 Friday July 8th, 2005 1:06:28 PM
Jake decides to cook some food up while they're waiting, and takes over a fire as a cooking grounds. In a short while, some meat is cooking, and though he's long run out of spicy stuff from Rattledam, he still has some of those mushrooms and other tangy flavorings from the wild. (Much, n fact, since he took a whole bagful) In a short while, he's got a pleasant stew going, and noticing the halfling in the corner cowering, he goes over and offers her a bowl with a smile. (Diplomacy 20) "Ey, don't be afraid a us, we're just a-passin' through."
Nauthiz'Ull (illegal second) Friday July 8th, 2005 2:26:58 PM
Flea's sudden words of shock rip Nauth's attention away from the Gargul expert of the Bloodpack.
"Did you say take their heads? That would be the ways of the Tuskers most likely."
The ranger flashes a quick reassurance to Aiden as he looks around the group.
"This cave has seen many unusual and horrific events unfold, however, this cave is the only place that will keep us alive tonight. Fear clouds the mind of rational judgement wunjos, and that makes it our worst enemy."
Immediately after his last words teh ebony man takes his seat next to the half-orc and nods. "Continue please. Your stories amaze me."
The Long Night Friday July 8th, 2005 5:04:27 PM
Flea retrieves the dagger and the lost girls spirit is still obviously tied to it in a partial way. The girl was on her test of Adulthood when warriors of the Tusker Tribe attacked and killed them. The Ice Vein group met her spirit the last time and returned the lost girls necklace to her mom. The night may be long, but there is no where else to take shelter on Burfell.
The fire is small but sustained through the night, giving a warm red glow to all within. A watch order is set, Jake does his best with some food and in short order the first hot meal in days in consumed by all.
Gry tells stories of Gargul and keeps Nauthiz'Ull attention well and more importantly helps distract the arge Half orc away from the very frightened halfling. Obviously years of abuse at the hands of the orcs and half orcs of the Tuskers have left their mark on her.
Bohdi talks to Garret of unions of his 'um friend to this other friend for a bit and the night moves on.
As Gilan thinks on his connection to Mother Wold a voice again reaches out of the ether beyond the cave's mouth. Highlight to display spoiler: {Cold and full of hate, yet a piece of fear as well. "I can feel you Wold Child" the voice quickly disappears like the morning fog to the rising sun and the now too familiar female voice is once again the company of Gilan. "Be Free child, embrace who you are"}
Temperatures on the mountain plummet and those on the later watches are forced to move deeper into the cave. The Cold penetrates like millions of needles and this night, even the magical protections of Garret and Bohdi are no match. Eventually night gives way to day and the frigid air recedes. The directions given to the Eastern face of Burfell indicate about a half day journey.
Flea d20+13=32 d20+9=26 d20=5 d20+9=20 d20+11=22 Friday July 8th, 2005 6:55:32 PM
Flea crouches over the mysterious dagger and beckons to Bohdi to come over. Using one of her own daggers, she pokes at the mysterious artifact searching its crusted surface (Search=32) for clues to its provenance and appraising its value (Appraise=26). Without taking her eyes from the knife with the handle carved to resemble a female, she asks Bohdi, "do you think its cursed like Mac says?"
Flea will carefully wrap the dagger in an embroidered shirt, a gift from her mother and intended for celebration. There hadn't been any occaision to wear it, since Flea became Bloodpack. The item is stowed carefully in the rogue's HHHaversack.
*****
During dinner, Flea leans comfortably agains Bohdi, listening to Gry's stories and eating Jake's newest concoction. She watches the halfling called Mund, eventually blurting out "you can talk, can't 'cha?" (Diplomacy=5) hoping the girl will open up.
*****
During her turn at watch (Spot=20, Listen 22), she will speak quietly of gnomish things with the magiker, and confess her secret addiction to the popular domestic periodical titled 'Better Gnomes and Gardens' while she tries to stave off the cold.
In the morning, when folks get ready to trek on, she will look to Trellus for direction.
Gilan d20+8=28 d20+8=11 Friday July 8th, 2005 11:10:36 PM
Gilan finds his meditation broken by what would appear to be a masculine voice in his head, filled with anger and a little bit of fear. His eyes fly open as he looks around at the rest of the group and then shakes his head. Despite the cold he finds that he is sweating and wipes his face. He is even more taken back as the voice reverts to what he heard earlier and his suspicions deepen.
He slips into sleep leaning against the cave wall near the back and off to the side of the group. He has no interest in anything that the rest of the group is doing as he has his own problems right now...he wonders if he is going crazy.
When it is his turn to take watch he finds that he is still a little nervous and his face is slightly pale. He wipes his face down with a small piece of cloth that he had in his pack and moves over to take a seat by Tishe'. "Have you been having sendings...possibly from Mother Wold?" He seems rather nervous about it as he asks and his eyes dart around to make sure that noone else is listening to him. He hopes that maybe her taking to the druid side of magic will give her an understanding of what he is experiencing and that she will not think him crazy. "It appears that someone is offering me power to join fully with what I am...that would be obviously to become one with Mother Wold herself." He shakes visibly as his eyes search and his ears work to pick up any little noise. "I think that it is a ruse though."

Garrett walks over to to mund "Are you coming with us girl, or do you wish to wait in the cave until we return?"
After receiving an answer, Garrett goes to check upon Úlf-warja'Ingr'. (Heal check to see how he is doing: 15).

Trellus Saturday July 9th, 2005 8:31:14 PM
Trellus does his best to sleep in the unnatural cold. No way should it get this cold. It totally bites. The cleric has got Garret's spell AND his cloak AND every piece of clothing he can find AND a fire and its STILL sunfire cold! He finds he can only catnap for an hour or so before he's awake again.
Trellus hasn't been so happy to see the morning in a very long time.
Hearing Garrett, he tells his packmates. "OK dudes, today should be it. We're going up against cold dudes and undead dudes. So, get ready for em."
The cleric himself prepares the same spells he did yesterday. Then, he's ready to go.
Spells Prepared: 0 - Create Water (x2), Detect Magic (x2), Detect Poison, Read Magic 1 -- Endure Elements (x2), Bless, Doom, Prot from Evil, Remove Fear 2 -- Hold Person, Resist Energy (cold), Spiritual Weapon (x2) 3 - Dispel Magic, Magic Circle against Evil, Prayer, Searing Light 4 -- Air Walk, Freedom of Movement, Inflict Critical Wounds
Bohdi Nackle d20+11=23 Saturday July 9th, 2005 11:24:35 PM
Bohdi listened to Garrett. "Even out here in the middle of the--oh, no, no, not that," Bohdi explained hastily. "No no, I was just--my friend was just--uh, no!" The gnome went red all over and rushed back across the cave.
"Bloody hell," he muttered to himself once he was safely alone, and held his head in his hands. "Bloody, bloody, bloody hell."
Flea's question about the dagger was a welcome distraction. He peered at it with unfeigned interest. "Didn't notice it the last time I was here--and I'm sure it would have revealed itself to my spell of detection if it were enchanted. Well, unless it were a truly special enchantment, of course," he amended quickly. "If that were the case, nothing I could do here would render any additional information for the time being." Just in case, he traced a rune in the air and incanted, "Presto ensorcelsior revelorum." The rune hung in midair, glowing a yellowish-orange, and wrapped around itself until it became an oversized pair of spectacles. The gnome peered at the dagger carefully through the rune. (Cast: Detect Magic. Spellcraft check 23)
"You should keep it," Bohdi smiled at Flea. "I met its former owner. She was a delightful girl--well, dead, actually, but still seemed quite lovely. I know it would have made her happy to have such a wonderful, beautiful person like yourself to have it. It's a little bit like the Vein--a bit cold, but at its heart, there's a stubborn little spark of life that just won't let go." He looked at Flea and his eyes softened. "You know what I mean?"
Afterward, Bohdi took his watch with Flea and listened with ... apparent interest ... to her descriptions of her favorite periodicals. It was another side of this fascinating woman, and so it was ... at least ... informative. And it passed the time.
In the morning, Bohdi prepared as best he could. He shuddered as he contemplated the prospect of facing the frozen walking dead once more, and consulted his spellbook. As usual, he solicited suggestions from the rest before settling on his spells for the day.
OOC: DMs: Bohdi cast an Identify spell on his own dagger, retrieved from this cave, back when everyone was in the snowed-in tents, didn't he? We never did get a resolution on that.
Jake Sunday July 10th, 2005 3:26:10 PM
Jake ponders something as he sits in the late night. If he can't have any fun, he doesn't see why he has to be a party pooper... He glances over to Bodhi. He hasn't paid much attention, but can tell that the gnome is trying to be as, what's the word... gallant in pursuing Flea as anyone. At first, he's about to go over and suggest to the two of them, 'Hey, you two love bunnies, go off into the snow and make yourself a nice little warm burrough...' But Jake is not really as stupid as he usually pretends. He looks at the serious, if somewhat bumbling, Bodhi, and figures the guy's either a virgin, or seriously just the way he is acting...gallant. Either way, such a method wouldn't work, and would probably just embarass both of them. It might be fun, but... Jake begins pondering ways to get the two gnomes together so they can get to know each other more privately. This is, of course, a complete change, from his usual tactics. But it does keep his mind off the fraking cold!!!
Mac Monday July 11th, 2005 9:04:23 AM
Something about the night leaves Mac cold. Come the morning he feeds Galea and plays with the kitten for a while, which has the benefit of lifting his mood a little. When the little one is ready to rest he gathers up his gear and prepares for the final ascent.
Anuk d20+11=20 d20+11=15 Monday July 11th, 2005 11:10:49 AM
Anuk sleeps fitfully throughout the night, occasionally snoring which is thankfully muffled by the scarf wrapped about his neck and face. As usual, his waking process is slow, and today it leaves him a bit grumpy. What little speaking he does is terse and curt, but after a while, the thought that they are nearer to completing their task warms him a bit. He ponders for a while (prepares summon nature's ally and pass without trace) then spends a little time looking out the mouth of the cave in the direction they will be headed.
(spot 20, listen 15)
Nauthiz'Ull Monday July 11th, 2005 11:58:35 AM
The ranger listens, fixedly to Gry's tales and even though Ull'Heimdall taught him of the powers of Gargul, the half-orc's words were pulling at something deeper this time.
The night passes longer than any as now he has these feelings deep down and cannot talk to his sister about them. This, coupled with the fact that the man who was sent to find his father lays quiet against the wall, his spirit deciding upon his fate.
As morning breaks and the young rnager rises he takes a few minutes to eat and then takes another few to stretch properly.
Mund-Skjotla d20=19 Monday July 11th, 2005 12:46:11 PM
Mund-Skjotla sits against the wall of the cave, her eyes never leaving the shape of Grymash. When Jake comes over with the stew, the smell of it makes the halflings stomach rumble. Woodenly, she reaches for the bowl and wolfs down the contents. The young woman continues to sit there until the female gnome's question slices through her conciousness.
The wild-eyed halfling's head snaps up and eyes focus now on the one called Flea.
"I can speak fine utlendr*."
Getting up from the wall, Mund-Skjotla moves closer to the fire and group around it. Looking at the others, she can easily spot the ones who do not come from the Vein, the half-orc included (Spot 19). Realizing that, a tenseness seems to leave her body. She moves over and sits next to the man who saved her and begins to tell her tale.
"My name is Mund-Skjotla Snowburrow. My family was a group of traders who went from Zarnan City to Ice Peak to Smashed Teeth. On one such trip, Tuskers attacked our dog-sleds not long after we left Ice Peak. They killed most of my family. The rest of us became their slaves."
Mund-Skjotla stares into the fire for a small while before continuing her story.
"I am the only one left of my family. The others died in slavery. I was pampered some. One of the leaders took a fancy to me. I am able to do a small amount of tumbling and it entertained him. I think that is the only reason I am was not taken by Gargul."
"When the earth shook and the confusion began, I just ran. I am lucky that Úlf-warja'Ingr' was there. While I am a part of the Vein, it would have been impossible for me to survive without him."
Her dark eyes soften a bit as she looks at the hunter. Reaching over, she lays a hand on his arm.
"He has done much good for me. I owe him my life."
Looking at the young man who asked her about coming with them she answers, "Ja, I will come with you. He will be better off without me to worry about and take care of. I have very little and my furs, while warm in the cave, will not be enough to carry me through outside."
Looking around at all the people in the cave, Mund-Skjotla pauses a minute and a blush creeps over her pale and sunken cheeks.
"Before I allow myself to ignore it, I feel I must apologize for my behavior. For now, let's just say that I was not treated well by the Tuskers and I have a problem with orcs and half-orcs. I do not think I shall have much of a problem with the one you travel with. He is not of the Vein, he is an utlandr. However, I do not think I will be able to...interact with him on a personal basis."
Pausing for a minute, the worn looking woman sighs and the hint of a grin crosses her lips. Turning to the female gnome she speaks again, a hint of laughter in her voice, "You wanted me to speak. I think you got more than you bargained for."

To the Answers They Each Seek? (aDM Drew) Monday July 11th, 2005 4:43:13 PM
The group gears up and prepares for the trek ahead as most of the Icepack are in a mood of determination. Few words are spoken as each goes about their morning routine but to everyone's suprise Mund-Skjolta perks up a bit and reveals the path that brought her here.
The group prepares for the journey ahead and the conflict that will surely be the end game of this excursion and then they are off. The half day march across to the eastern face is not too technically difficult, but it is far more strenuous of a climb and it seems almost as if the air across the eastern face is less due to the whipping wind ripping up the mountain. Gusting at almost 50mph, the smaller party members must bury themselves into the legs of their friends on several occasions to assure that they are not blown off.
High above, the clouds remain and the sun is masked, a dull grey light shows about the land of snow, ice and hard black granite. Soon enough of the group rounds part of the final trail and a pair of wonders greet the party. First, is the massive rift torn into the side of the mountain. The chasm falls away to unknown depths and runs into the mountains' heart some four miles in length. The second, is the view to the east. The land falls away from your feet and the vast tundra can be seen stretching out before you. From this height the great Jagged Peaks range can be seen from over 400 miles away and the sight is disturbing. Unlike the land near Ice Peak, it does not seem that there has been snow fall to the east. Like a plague of death, pumice and ash cover the ground as far as the eye can see. An eerie silence hovers about the lands below and it wouuld also seem an entire section of the mountain range is missing, as if scooped up by a great hand and carried off.
A safe path into the rift is discovered relatively quickly and the breath stealing view is soon left behind for cold walls of unrelenting ice and rock. The group descends for the better part of three hours, but the bottom is finally reached. The crag moves off ahead of you and is consumed by the dark shadows of the mountain side. The group, with no other options, moves forward into the unknown. Each step taking them closer to the answers they each seek.
Trellus Monday July 11th, 2005 9:38:20 PM
Trellus looks out at the missing mountain.
"Light," he breathes, awestruck. There are some totally waxed powers weaving their work here. Collecting himself, he continues the descent into the mountain.

"The answer I'm seeking is ... why in bloody hell am I out here in this bleedin' cold!" the gnome grumbled to himself as they walked--but he kept his complaining down to a voice quiet enough that Flea would hopefully not overhear. He glanced at the female gnome from time to time, and then, as the opportunity presented itself, he screwed his courage to the sticking place and walked up alongside her.
"Uh, Furtif Aeanora?" he began. "Um ... I was just wondering ... um ... when this is over ... I mean, you know, after we get done saving the Wold and everything ... um ... well ... would you like to come back to Zarnan City with me--to visit?" he added quickly. "You know, uh, see the sights, and everything? You, uh, you might like it. It's really--it's really cool."
"Cool?! Doh! Stupid!" he turned away quickly and cursed under his breath. He bit his lip and turned back to Flea. "I mean--it's really a nice place, and it's all gnomes like us ... um, you might like it ...?" He trailed off and looked at her hopefully.
Gilan Monday July 11th, 2005 11:20:19 PM
The last watch had been his and he was glad for it really as he could not have found sleep anyways. When most are waking they find him sitting in the cave's mouth and going through his morning absolutions to Mother Wold. The ever present power influx is still there this morning and he silently wonders where it comes from, but hopes that he does not find out.
When at last the group is ready to move out he slips some trail rations into his hand and munches as he walks. When he finds, like the others, that part of the mountain is missing he shivers with both delight and fear...this will be his power to wield one day as a druid. The Wold Mother blesses her children with the powers of the Wold itself and earthquakes are one of those powers.
Aiden Monday July 11th, 2005 11:36:57 PM
Aiden stared at the dark chasm and the remnants of the black cloud shedding upon the landscape. It saddened him to see the beauty of the ice and snow covered...no...smothered by the ashe.
Shaking his head sadly, he continued to follow the others.
OOC: got back yesterday from surgery...things seem to be going aok so far.
Flea (Subbed by Mikey) Tuesday July 12th, 2005 6:32:29 AM
Flea looks up at hearing her real name...She listens to him, blushing slightly as he fiddles his way through it. Finally, she gathers up her own courage and smiles back, "Sure, I will, Bodhi." She stares back into his eyes, pleased, her face a little red.. She wonders if they have any good locks there.
Looking over to the suddenly talkative, formerly withdrawn survivor, she grins. "Don't worry about Grymash. I could tell you about some of the stupid things he's done, like climbing down a rope he was holding... but he's also very brave and honest."
Jake Tuesday July 12th, 2005 6:37:23 AM
Jake listens to the halfling talk, but is really just eager to get on with this journey. He lets time pass by and doesn't complain. "You know, it's weird, but ah gotta say....this land may be cold, but, it's still kinda immpressive to loook around at..." Jake admits. "You know...it's only been like a month since weleft rattledam, and yet it seems forever..."q
Mac Tuesday July 12th, 2005 6:44:49 AM
Mac trudges throught the broken snow and ice at the tail of the pack - still there for those who might fall behind, still sullen and quiet, but for the crunching beneath his feet and the sharp edged breathe he draws. He pushes on through the wind.
The new vista brings him to a sudden halt. Minutes pass as he just stares unblinking at the expanse, before finally smiling a broad toothy smile.
"I see it now... I knew they were more than just words, but now..."
OOC: The taur is clearly moved. No, elated.
Anuk Tuesday July 12th, 2005 3:05:49 PM
The chill wind causes Anuk to draw his furs tighter around himself as the pack moves forward. From his place near the lead, he pauses as the breathtaking view unfolds before him.
"Nauth, this is...its...it's beautiful," he stammers, unable to find words for what he sees.

A smile creeps across the face of the ebonied ranger as the Vein's vast and spellbinding beauty is realized.
"Wunjo, our lands are as unique as yours and they are equally beautiful. The ice lives like crystal, teh snow as delicate as a bubbling brooke. Our weather as mild and tempermental as your land's. One day I wish to see your lands and I hope that Mother Wold has great and fascinating suprises in store for me."
Nauth watches in wondernment as the immense half-orc's demeanor changes into a joyous one. Curiosity paws in his stomach.
Looking to the entire Icepack he raises a valid point.
"We must be on the lookout now for the Bevroren Donden. I will head forth keeping as quiet as possible to see what awaits us ahead. Those of you who join me, please leave your noisy items behind."
The young ranger rolls his head and does a few quick stretches then an almost lupine look casts in his eyes. He slowly creeps ahead and does his best to scouut like the undying race of animals who he has learned from. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Move Silent-17 Hide-9 Listen-9 Spot-18
Heart of Burfell Tuesday July 12th, 2005 9:47:50 PM
The vast view has many effects on those of the wide open plains. It was easy to forget how high they had climbed with the younger native Icers until that moment. Even Gilan had never before been to such heights as this, a dead reckoning to the better side of 8000 feet. Mixed elations rush through the druid but even as awesome as the power of moving earth, the destruction of several mountains is far beyond such a thing. An uplift of joyous song fills Gilan's mind. Strong, beautiful and haunting, Highlight to display spoiler: { I see faith in your eyes, never you hear the discouraging lies. I hear faith in your cries. Broken is the promise, betrayal. The rift is descended and the floor valley reached. The group proceeds, Nauthiz'Ull moving to a more forward position, a stalking wolf into unknown territory. Remember my lessons little Úlf 'wolf'. While you may be the hunter, you are also the interloper it seems only yesterday suddenly to the young man, when his father first took him on a hunt.
As the others begin to proceed down the rift, they too feel memories of days long past, those of peace and joy, rise in memories unbidden. Soon the sky in devoured by the crevace, the path of the rift driving deeper into Burfell's heart. The familiar song of the wind, vanishes in the depths, as does light and smell. Skree fields and loose boulders litter the path the group follows, all evidence of the tremendous quake that rocked the entire Vein a few weeks ago.
Further into the darkness a small pinpoint of green white light can be seen.

Flea takes Bodhi's hand when admiring the view...She thinks of the big city, and of the great hope coming up, and finds herself lost in a moment. Then she realizes where she is and blushes, looking embarassed. "Guess we'd better go," she says softly, and sticks her sweaty palms in her pockets.

Bohdi beamed with delight at Flea's acceptance of his invitation. He scarcely seemed to notice the cold the rest of the day as he peered out over the expanse of the Vein while holding Flea's hand, and as he followed the party's leaders into the crevasse.
The light ahead caught his attention. "Beware," the gnome whispered in agreement to the others. "We should prepare for the worst. Presto ensorcelsior protectionis," he added as he traced a rune in the air. A blue rune blazed into view in the air in front of Bohdi and wrapped itself around him and the raven familiar that rode on his shoulder. (Cast Mage Armor)

I did something wrong--moved my hand the wrong way or something--and the next thing I know I'm standing there wearing only a loincloth and a smile. I thought he was going to be mad, but he couldn't stop laughing. Never did figure out what happened to those clothes." He goes on and on as the group walks, laughing and chuckling at story after story, all the while idly running his left hand over the glove that covers his right arm.
Anuk finally quiets down as the light grows dim. He peers forward, trying to make out the source of light, but also keeping an eye on dangers coming from other directions.

Gilan is too caught up in something to even notice much around him at this time. He feels and hears a song that goes to his soul. It has a different meaning to it than what he was hearing before and he thinks this time it is the Wold Mother herself. "Thank you Wold Mother." He bows his head and says a short prayer her before continueing on.
He takes in the light and falls back into a more battle ready stance. Pulling upon the powers of nature with a lighter heart he wraps his fists in an aura that will enhance thier attacks. His eyes and ears search for all that is going on around them...enemies included.
Aiden Wednesday July 13th, 2005 7:22:23 PM
The change from the quake still startled Aiden, but he continued to watch for areas where there could be other dangers. Such as earth being too loose, or even the walking frozen.
"So what is your land like?" he said almost to any of those around him from the Blood Pack. "I have heard of the word shady, and not shady, but little else..."
He definitely didn't like that light from afar, but until they got closer to a safer spot, it wouldn't behoove him to suggest him, or Nauthiz, to scout ahead.
Trellus Wednesday July 13th, 2005 8:38:39 PM
Trellus walks with the others, taking in Aiden's question and the huge height in one fell swoop.
"Nothing like this," he tells the ranger.
It takes the young man several minutes to try and come up with a description. He's seen nothing in this Ice Vein that he can even use as a starting point.
"OK, the Sargass is a desert plain. No rain, no snow, no water at all. Its usually really, really hot. Like being in an oven. Only the Grass grows on the Plains, usually 10 or 15 feet high. We've sailed on it in Druid Wood boats."
The cleric pauses sadly. "We haven't been there for a long time now," he says softly.
Finally, they reach the bottom. Trellus takes in the green light, and silently agrees with Grymash's assessment. Its time to get shuttlecocked.
Garrett Wednesday July 13th, 2005 9:16:54 PM
(OOC: Sorry, been out of town for a few days.)
Garrett says little as he focuses on what lay ahead. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best....But expect the worst. A teaching from his youth that wandered through his mind.
I am ready Domi, he thinks to himself, for whatever may await us. I will not disappoint you.

Adding to Trellus' description of the Sargrass, "Yeah, Gry sailed da boat once or thrice. Gry sail gute! Da boat go too slow. Gry run faster."
Once they get to the bottom, he wonders what happens next. But he knows deep down its not going to be good.
Jake Thursday July 14th, 2005 5:10:37 AM
"Ah never got permission to ride in the boats...but that odesn't mean ah didn't sneak aboard 'em once or twice," Jake admits, recalling one particular incident which landed him into heaps of trouble... "The Plains are like, grass as fara s you can see, but not up and down, just flat. Oh, there's different colors; green, yellow-green, yellow, reddish, blue, clear, brown, beige, tan, ah think there's other words for the colors, but you get the idea. Ummm... There's the waves of grass, and ya can float on it, or you can travel through it...either way, it's hot, and the sun's always above you. The grass never provides shade, even when you're in it...it's so flimsy and wispy and spreads under you, pushed outwards, that the sun's on your shoulders. The worst job ah ever had was catching the piggies," which is what Jake had to do the most, as his fellow packmates knew, "'cause the slugs were in the grass, and ya had to get 'em out of it. So we had to go into the grass, and ya can't cut it, ya gotta shake it, and the damned things would slip through it like goo, and ya had to chase after 'em." Jake pauses, feeling like he isn't doing a good job. He looks around, grasping for other changes. "oh yeah, there's also a lot more pretty girls."
Flea Thursday July 14th, 2005 5:12:44 AM
Flea let's the others talk of home. She was from a town on the edge, and while she'd lived around the Plains, she liked hearing the descriptions coming from them a lot more.

End of the Road Thursday July 14th, 2005 9:29:14 AM
The rift continues into the mountian and becomes more of a tunnel then rift. Though with the roof of the tunnel soaring well over 1000 above your heads, it doesn't really feel like a tunnel. Talk turns to the Sagrass plains, but none let there guard down as they move closer to the small light. A few more miles and the source can now be seen. At the end of the journey lies a black green wall of ice. Rolling across the surface is a vaporous glow and source of the light seen. There has been no detectable signs of passage down this dimming road, but the climb down told the story of many humanoids and wolves came this way.
The group moves cautiously forward with weapons at the ready. Closing to within several hundred feet Mac notices as the mists move across the ice, some sort of writing is breifly left behind, but this is much too far distant. A door is also visible, looking dark grey in the light and partially blurred.

I think that this is great incentive for all of us to experiment with ideas that we have for our characters at higher levels. I for one am consdering multiclassing with a druid and may take this opportunity to see if it fits Nauth. You can also get a glimpse at items that yo may have and are consider improving (again for me it is Ull'Heimdall's bow) and the likes. We are the newest and youngest grop fo adventurers in the Wold and I think this would be an incredible time to help ouut our own cause and also gain vital insight into our PCs future progressions. Also, most likey we will not be grouped together so there is a chance that youu couuld be playing side by side with other incredible players and even the PTB themselves. Riddle at the doors Monday July 18th, 2005 9:38:25 PM
The gargoyle remains motionless as Flea continues her inspection. The second inspection again reveals no traps to her. A small tug on the doors shows them to be indeed locked and even as the rogue pulls her pick set, she knows the deep gray looking lock section to be rudimentary at best. In moments the satisfying 'click' in the door is heard and Flea knows that she has outmaneuvered yet one more lock maker.
Bohdi reads the inscription aloud and Tishe also moves forward for a slightly better look now that Flea has determined the outer area safe for closer inspection by all. Discussions quickly shift to the expected warm welcome by undead hordes bent on the groups destruction. Mac, Aiden, Jake and Garret quickly speak up on being in the front line portion of the fight on Gilan's mention of protection spells. Two men starting to discover a great kindred spirit growing between them unsling their bows and Nauthiz'Ull and Anuk give each other a silent nod.
Tishe continues to study the words as they float across the icy surface and she mouths them quietly to herself. Spot DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {From the seeker the veil is plucked. Gilan nods in understanding and then slowly moves among the group. "I can only apply this spell to three of us." He moves first to Grymash, then Aiden and lastly Garret...calling upon the powers of nature to harden thier skin with the protection of wood. "The three of you will find that you have a little bit of an armor boost." He looks to those others that will be entering melee combat and shakes his head. "I am sorry that I did not memorize more spells of that type." He continues to keep his eyes and ears open for any sounds that may lead to him suspecting an ambush on the other side of that door or something sneaking up on them.

When Gilan touches Grymash to deliver his protective spell, he can feel a sudden tension in his muscles. A low growl begins to grow out of the depths of his throat. "yyeeeEESSSSS, GARGULLL! YYEEESSSS!" Grymash snaps his head back and glowers at Gilan. A tusk-filled scowl throbs with heavy breath and bulging veins. Within his glassy feral eyes its unclear to Gilan if sees the reflections himself and his faithful Bloodpack or the tormented souls of those demanding satisfaction that fuels his sudden fury. Grymash continues, "Ready Bloodpack! Da time come ta destroy da walkin' dead! GARGUL DEMAND ITS!!"
Grymash turns to face the room again. With a few mumbled words and another slight glow envelopes his large frame. (Casting Protection from Evil) The half-orc instantly goes into a defensive stance expecting the attack to be coming quick.

Nauthiz'Ull Tuesday July 19th, 2005 11:44:35 AM
A muddled look of suprise, awe and concern covers the rangers ebony face as he sees Gry build up. The young man feeds off of those emotions and pulls back on his bowstring as Garret tries to open the door.
A look across to Anuk also gives Nauth a sense of warmth and confidence knowing that the way of the bow is a strong path to travel.

Gilan casts several spells as does Gry. Garret attempts to open the door, but to no avail. At that moment Tishe's eye light up, "I have it. It's about colors. Not complimentary but Contrasts. I have Red and Green so I bet if I touch the door...". She is speaking even as her hand makes contact and then she is simply not there. In her place is a very large man with a great axe slung across his back. He currently faces the wall just to the side of the doors where Tishe was a moment ago. He quickly looks over his sholulder and it is evident he's no clue how what just happened happened. Spellcraft DC 30 Highlight to display spoiler: { Teleport spell}
The air is frigid and bites at your skin as the doors open. The doors give way to a great low pillared hall. Five steps descend to an ancient black marbled floor with olive and drab yellow veining. The ceiling is flat and unadorned gray granite and after the steps are navigated is only 8' in height. No light shines within save pale streams of grey from the outside world into this dismal place. The first of two thick pillars, some 15' across appear to be spaced evenly from each other, lending more to the atmosphere of oppression and closeness here.
Stretching to either side, the edges of the room disappear into gloom and pitch for most of the party. Jake and Grymash Highlight to display spoiler: { The feeble light that falls in to the hall is enough for you and the dimensions of the room are detectable 90'x105'}
Turning to look towards the now open door is a pair of orcs and a troll. All three are covered in frost and ice. I perceveire. I have risen above your mortal chains and limitations and now you shall feel my vengeance." The voice while hauntingly hollow is unmistakably that of Skalti the bard. Wicked grins split the faces of the orcs and in unison they utter a single word. "Meatsssss."
Gilan [greater magic fang] d20+15=22 Wednesday July 20th, 2005 12:43:50 AM
Gilan watches as Tishe' lands her hands upon the door and then is suddenly gone. "Light...some kind of magic I would suspect but not sure what type." He watches the man with the axe and then the doors opening with interest.
The voice that issues from inside fills him with forboding and a little bit of anger. The sight of a monster skeleton in front of him further that. "Seems that it will be undead then." He makes no moves to enter as he is not sure about protections that maybe awaiting them. "Make them come to us?" He glances to the rest and hopes that Gry is not lost yet to his own inner demons.

Aiden was prepared to step forward as well to meet the orks and troll. However, upon coming closer with the group, he muttered what the Blood Pack would suspect to be a curse under his breath.
Instead of stepping directly with the front line to engage the enemy, he took a step to the side by the doorway, to prevent the group from being immediately attacked by anything trying to circumvent the powerful warriors in front. In short, he was doing the same thing as Jake on the opposite side of the room.

Trellus casts a blessing of Domi across all about him and indeed everyone can feel a very real touch to their minds as the Prayer spell is completed.
Grymash steps forth and channels the undeniable power of Gargul into the abominations before him. The closest orc (Z3) staggers under the attack and then begins to move away.
Mac issues a command to the rest to secure the stranger and then enters the room, but his target is now gone, he prepares to meet the onslaught. Mac with your darkvision you can see the room quite well from your new position. The columns essentially take up the entire square they touch so I had to shift you slightly.
Bohdi moves up the the rear flank and prepares a spell in case this new comer has an idea that could cause harm. It is quite evident to Bodhi that the man is a native of Ice Vein. Jake shifts to the groups rear and looks back down the rift they just traversed.

Nauthiz'Ull moves to the door way and gets a better view of the dangers in the room. K0 was occupied by Garret so I shifted you.
Aiden moves into the chamber and takes a position to help secure the front flank.
Anuk moves to the crowded doorway and fires a pair of arrows at the retreating orc zombie. The first shaft strikes and ice chips fly from the impact, as do more from the second arrow. The creature turns about and growls.

Anuk moves into the room (more than 5' so just one shot) and fires at the Large Winter Wolf. The arrow strikes, but hangs loosely as if the arrow penetrated very shallow.
Nauthiz'Ull puts a pair of arrows into a Zombie orc (Z4), but like the last frozen undead the ranger met, these seem virtually immune to missile fire as well. Both arrows merely break upon the ice layer covering it.
Bohdi calls for a more organized attack and keeps his Color Spray spell at the ready.

With a roaring edict of Gargul, Gry pounds into the room and with a tremendous roundhouse swing, separates his foe into two even pieces. (Z4 is no more)
Flea moves for a better position to fire through the door and sees a clear path to a troll. The bolt flies and hits, but to her dismay the magical bolt shatters on impact and ricochets off the icy exterior.
Jake moves in and takes position between Grymash and Mac. (Had to move by friendly which is extra 5')
Two of the trolls nearest Mac continue to try and tear the Minotaur to pieces. (Troll 1 Claw AC 15/16 Bite AC 8 Dmg 0 Troll 3 Claw AC 16/21 Bite AC 20 Dmg 0)
The other shifts his target and as it's eyes lock on Grymash a hollow voice emenates from it's chest. "Gargul holdssss no ssssway in the Vein foolissshh mortalssss." Icy claws reach out for the raged warrior. (Troll 2 Claw AC 28/14 Bite AC 25 Dmg 14+6+6+2=28)
Two zombie orcs close from the back ranks, Mac take another AoO at Z6.
The headless orc swings at Mac (Slam AC 23 miss)
The Winter Wolf closes on Garret and the razor sharp fangs come at the cleric in a rush. (Bite AC 20 you lucky dog)
The Other wolves crowd in and from the far double doors Mac and Gry can see a small horde of orc zombies coming stepping into the dim light. They can also note beyond the now open double doors is completely engulfed in darkness.

Nauthiz'Ull [ac17 hp20/20:Prayer~Bless] Friday July 22nd, 2005 6:17:05 PM
The younger ranger bites his lip and curses under his breath.
Ull'Heimdall my skill with your bow will keep me ineffective against the Bevroren Donden. I must use my blade.
Quickly shouldering his bow, lessons flash through Nauth's mind of his father's hunting techniques. He draws the intricately crafted scimitar and pats Aiden on the shoulder.
In a whispered voice, "My wunjo, do you wanna go on a hunt?" A great smirk crosses his face before he throws a head nod towards the left side of the pillars.
Nauth then hunches a bit low and stalks off... ~~~~~~~~~~ Active Spells Prayer Bless
Seeing the enormous wolf come at him as well as the waiting troll behind, Garrett quickly realizes he has stepped in a big steaming pile of trouble. Seeing everyone else pressing forward into the room leaves Garrett to cover the right flank, and should he retreat, that would open up mac's rear, as well as a quick path to the supporting personnel in the rear. I must hold my position.
Quietly to himself, "Domi, guide my blade and restrain my foes for I shall give you all the courage I possess".
Garrett will fight the Winterwolf Defensively, and as he swings his blade stares the frozen beast in it's lifeless eyes and says "You shall not pass."

Aiden (AC 16 HP 20) d20=2 d20=3 Friday July 22nd, 2005 9:57:26 PM
Aiden looked at Nauthiz, "Go ahead..." he replied sternly, "but someone must remain here to prevent the small ones from getting flanked..."
He then added, "Take care as you step Nauthiz, these creatures are the like that we have not seen..." as Aiden's vision caught much of the trolls, "and perhaps that is the purpose of the Blood Pack's presence."
Aiden will remain on guard. He knew that he should have entered the fray, but by moving, the creatures would be able to move around and take the exit, something that would NOT be good in this.

Bohdi Nackle (AC 19, HP 14/14) and Squork (AC 15, HP 7/7) d20=6 d4=1 2d4(3+2)=5 d4=1 Saturday July 23rd, 2005 11:54:11 PM ooc: a little map correction of my own. In his last post, Bohdi moved to "H2"--in the current map, I think that equates to A9. Going off of that premise here.
Hearing Garrett's defiant exclamation, Bohdi stiffened his own resolve. "Garrett! Hold steady!" he cried, and rushed forward.
"Anuk! Out of the way!" Bohdi ran through the doors, and--swallowing hard as he regarded the enormity of the creatures now facing them--he dashed toward Garrett. He tried to use the Ice Peak cleric as a buffer (move to D8, if Anuk moves out of that square--otherwise to D7). Once in range of the winter wolf but in a position not to impact Garrett, Bohdi proclaimed, "Arcus confutatis maledictis!"
(Cast: Color Spray at winter wolf. If starting from D8 or D7, should hit wolf without hitting Garrett. Will save DC 17; if creature fails save, >= 5 HD stunned 1 round; 3-4 HD blinded and stunned 1d4=1 rounds, then stunned 1 round; <= 2 HD unconscious, blinded and stunned 2d4=5 rounds, then blinded and stunned 1d4 =1 rounds, then stunned 1d4=1 rounds.)
Squork tried his best to protect Bohdi, but his fluttering did no good (Aid Another 6, fails).
Flea (AC 19, hp 40) d20+10=22 d20+10=25 d4+2=4 d4+2=4 Sunday July 24th, 2005 8:03:55 AM
Since that strange teleporting warrior moved out of the way, Flea now has a clear line of fire on one of those trolls that's taking a wack at Mac. She moves forward enough to rely on those hours of practice at close range targets. Just think of the big undead troll as one of those big targets, she imagines. The center is 10 points, the outer edges 5 points, the arms 3...and as she lets her imagination do her guiding, she fires two quick shots at it. "Twenty points!" she happily declares as the arrows thunk into the center of the troll, and probably nobody understands why. (Moving forward to E9, then taking two shots at the troll 1 at I9. Using Rapid Fire and Point Blank Shot feats, and the arrows are magical. Hit AC 22 and AC 25, and did 4 damage and 4 damage each)
Jake (AC 27, hp 57/57) d20+7=21 d20+2=18 d10=2 d10=10 d6=3 d6=6 Sunday July 24th, 2005 8:12:38 AM
The dark cavern is flooded with enemies, but behind and beside him are his trusted companions and other allies from afar. Glinted steel flashes in the darkness, and for once in his life, Jake's mind takes a step back from the battle to marvel at it. Towering decayed skeletal trolls, orc zombies with frozen rancid flesh, and his buddies, Mac the minotaur and Grymash the...well, just Grymash, really. And him, Jake, on the front line, holding his own. Maybe not as mighty a warrior as Mac, or as fierce as Grymash, but calmed, controlled, and precise. But in this case, against the undead, he realizes that sorta method won't really help. They don't have veins, they don't tire, and most of all, there's too many of them. Time to use some brute strength on his blows. Jake raises his sword high in one hand and summons all his strength behind the blow, returning to the task at hand. He takes a step forward (to G10) and hacks down with the sword like an axe, all his strength and momentum coming down into the orc. He's using all his strength and might so that his blows might fall a little off, but luckily zombies aren't known for their great agility. He raises his sword and hacks again, deeply. (Hits AC 21 and AC 18, does 12 and 3 cold and 15 and 6 cold damage to the zombie. Jacob is also watching; does his cold damage do anything to the zombie, or does it even seem to be strengthening it? Very important to know.)
Trellus (ac 23, bless2, prayer3, spt wpn1, magic vestment) d20+13=16 Sunday July 24th, 2005 8:53:04 PM
Trellus follows Flea into the gate [move to D9], and takes a look around. It looks busy, but no one seems to be in trouble yet. The man is calm as he starts calling out instructions.
"Gil, step up here. We could use one of those fire pillar spells between those two trolls up front."
"Nuk, you gotta go swords on that wolf or Garrett gets his thread cut."
The blond cleric decides he's still got a bit of time, and casts a spell for Domi's Hammer. The weapon appears above Troll 4 and swings down. [atk ac 16].
Grymash (ac25, hp82, rage2, bless, barkskin, prayer, protection from evil) d20+2=21 d20+15=24 d20+10=21 d8+25=30 d8+25=32 d20+15=23 d8+25=29 Monday July 25th, 2005 12:47:24 AM
Grymash hears the undead troll say, "Gargul has no sway here!" (Wisdom 21) Grymash actually hears his words and retorts with his own statement back at the troll. "YYOOZ STUPID STINK MEAT, GARGUL'S AXE HAVES LOTS SWAY ... AUUUGHHHHH!"
Grymash steps forward(5-foot step) and "sways" his double axe into the undead troll(troll2). (Powerattack -5hit/+10dam. HitAC: 24, 21. Damage: 30 and 32, for a possible total of 62 points of damage to troll.)
If the troll drops, Grymash cleaves his double axe into wolf1 as well. (Cleave Attack. HitAC: 23. Damage: 29.)
Gilan {greater magic fang, prayer, bless} 8d6(4+3+1+3+4+5+2+6)=28 Monday July 25th, 2005 3:22:11 AM
Gilan is already starting his casting as he hears the faint words from Trellus. He just lets a smile slip to his lips as he flicks his right hand at the trolls that are up front, placing it between them.
He glances around as his spells goes off and calls out again. "Anyone in need of help?" His face has taken on a sort of feral look as he tries to see an opening for him to use.

Guloith bravely moves deeper into the ante chamber of the dark temple and engages one of the great wolves. His axe strikes hard and ice flies form the frozen creature.
Mac's axe impacts the first zombie and the creature literally flies apart. Carrying the swing through to the headless one still striking at him the axe goes high. Brining his axe in a short backhand, the minotaur almost loses his grip on the weapon. A punch with his horns however fells the headless zombie.
Nauth stows his bow, draws blade and moves into the deeper darkness of battlefield right.
With more courage than the young cleric has a right to, Garret stands before the massive wolf. His sword strikes unerringly into the creature, eliciting a deep hollow sounding growl
Aiden maintains his position preventing any from circling and leaving the temple.
Bohdi comes to the aid of his comrade and wunjo Garret. A cone of brilliant energies spring forth under his command, but the mind effecting spell can find no hold or purchase on the mindless undead wolf.
Flea moves to the doorway and lets loose two brilliant shots. Dead center they strike, but even as she calls them out, the arrows snap upon impact with the frosted ice like armor encasing the creatures bones. [Spot 20] Highlight to display spoiler: {It is clear they did no damage}
Jake moves in and knowing the undead care little for defense, hacks into the zombie orc with two successive blows. Each lands harshly, digging deeply through the frozen flesh, but the creature turns lifeless eyes towards the warrior of the plains and smiles. "You are to blame for thissss Elf"
Trellus moves into the fray calling for Gilan to bring some fire to bear on the trolls. For his own part a war hammer of Domi springs into existence by a troll and attempts to smote it with righteous power only to be turned aside by the armor of ice.
Grymash bellows with rage at the mocking of Gargul. Troll 2 feels his vengeance. The mighty axe rips into the creature and Ice sails from each blow. The troll however does not fall, it repeats "Gargul holdssss no ssssway in the Vein foolissshh mortalssss."
Gilan calls forth retributive flames of Mother Wold and strikes the 2 trolls before Mac. Ice blasts instantly to steam and bones blacken and crack. Before his very eyes, not only are both creatures still standing, but the icy armor reforms about their bones.
The mass of orc zombies moves closer, thick plodding footsteps in the darkness.
The orc's lifeless eyes meet the barbarian Guloith and an icy claw streaks towards the young mans chest, but Guloith is much to fast for the clumsy blow. (Hit AC 12) Wolf fangs tear into Grymash, but the newly placed protections deflect the piercing teeth. (Hit AC 23)
The troll retaliates with claw and tooth as well towards the Gargul cleric. Gargul continues to bless his good servant and all but one blow misses. (Hit AC 23/23 Bite 16 Claw 20/27 Bite 8 Dmg 14+4=18) Grymash feels a super penetrating cold steal into his body and try to tighten about his heart.
The two trolls continue their assault on Mac. Two of the razor sharp claws come through Mac's defenses. Dmg 12+5=17 and 10+1=11 total 28) Mac again feels the very core heat of his body pulled from him at the touch of the creatures claws
An orc zombie moves in on the ranger Nauthiz'Ull, in the darkness and strikes. The claws rakes through his armor and soaks his chest with blood. Again the ranger feels the heat leeched from his body. (Hit AC 22 Dmg 8+1=9)
A throaty growl escapes the great undead wolf before the young cleric and illusionist. It seems to almost be a cat playing with its prey as the jaw separates with a repulsing snap of tendon and ice to become much larger than normally possible. Then it lunges in a lightning quick strike at Garret. The fangs grab the man by his midsection and with a quick jerk, Garret falls to blackness upon the floor. Bohdi's face and chest go slick and warm with the clerics blood that sprays from the gaping wound. (Hit AC 29 Dmg 15+4=19)
Bohdi Nackle (AC 19, HP 14/14) and Squork (AC 15, HP 7/7) d20=20 Monday July 25th, 2005 2:05:26 PM Oh, the wolves are undead, too? NOW you tell me... ; )
"Garrett! Wauuuugggh!"
Bohdi's eyes grew round and wide as saucers as he saw the undead winter wolf rip into his companion. Squeezing his way behind Garrett (5' step to H2, move action) and summoning all of the strength he could muster, he grabbed hold of his wunjo's limp form and dragged him away from the bestial creature's slavering jaws (move heavy load, dragging, from H2 to I3 to J2).
"Trellus! Garrett needs help!" the gnome exclaimed. "Mac! Cover us!"
Again, Squork fluttered around his master's head trying to protect him. This time, the raven's efforts aided in distracting any who might attempt an attack (Aid Another Nat 20, succeeds, adds +2 to AC against melee attacks; with +1 max DEX bonus owing to heavy load this round, nets out no change in AC).

Gilan {greater magic fang, prayer, bless} 8d6(1+4+6+6+4+5+5+6)=37 Monday July 25th, 2005 6:13:35 PM
Gilan shakes his head as he once again pulls upon the powers of nature. He still feels the lack of nature's response to jump to his call, but it is there at least. He once again flicks his wrist at troll(1&3) that stand before Mac. He just hopes that they can put them down fast and get to the other problems. Another column of flame slams into the two trolls with as much force as possible.
He does hear the voice of that Bohdi call out for help but he is in no position to aid anyone and silently berates himself for staying outside the door. He will try to at least maybe slip by one of those in front of him, moving a mere five feet.

Trellus' voice pierces through Bodhi's cry.
"I've got him. Mac is busy. Nuk - step up."
As Bodhi pulls back, Trellus lays a hand on the wounded cleric. [Cure Moderate Wounds over Hold Person - heals 15 hp].
Trellus fills in the gap vacated by Garrett and Bodhi, pulling out a wand (Cure Critical Wounds) as he does so.

The ranger lets out a quick yelp as the prc tears into his chest.
"Damn the hunt, we need a slaughter!"
Nauth quickly realizes that this was a bad idea! With little choice but to stand and swing, Nuath asks Gargul to help guide his blade, and prove that he still holds sway in these parts.

Aiden (AC 16 hp 20 bless, prayer) d20=19 d8=4 Monday July 25th, 2005 10:53:09 PM
Aiden was caught in a bind. He wanted to help off to the side, but was caught in watching the other half. It was also far to crowded for him to make it through to defend his fellow comrades.
He had told that he was to fight, but Aiden had not expected for the room to be so....big. Fortunately, Trellus was moving over to aid Garret.
~demon dogs...~ cursed Aiden within his mind. Aiden hated this, as he saw even the small ones being able to contribute through this battle, while he watched for an enemy that had yet to take advantage of a severe weakness.
"Gilan...I need you to step and be ready on the flank...I shall try and offer my axe to aid Trellus and Garrett."
(OOC: ok, I'm showing severe newbieism (and stupidity). From how the map looks, Aiden has the ability to step and move towards where Trellus is (move action). Since he's moving, I'm presuming he'll get only one of the two possible attacks with the axe). Basically, he's trying to cover Trellus while he heals Garrett by attacking the wolf. If this doesn't work because of too little room etc, PLEASE let me know.)

A call for help... Trell has 'nuk covering it. He who speaks the words of Domi says Mac is busy, so he must be! "More zombie orcs comin'!" He briefly toyed with the idea of commenting on the return of Gargul and Mother Wold and Domi to this land, but then realised it wouldn't look 'busy'. Instead, he sets to with the Adamantine Greataxe, looking to dent or hole their line.
Attack 1: Troll 3. Hits AC32(Nat20!) for 32 damage. CritCheck hits AC27 for an additional 31+30=61, making 93 damage. Attack 2: T3 or T1. Hits AC22 for 27 damage Horn Gore: T3 or T1 or T2. Hits AC26 for 14 damage.
Hopefully due a cleave after Att 1: AC27 for 25 damage.
Spells in effect Prayer: +1 luck bonus to attack, weapon damage, saves and skill checks. Bless: +1 morale bonus to hit, +1 morale bonus to saves against fear.
OOC: When the revised Taur rules are adopted, Mac is going the Whirlwind Attack path. Under those circumstanes he could have had a shot at 3 trolls, an orc and the wolf that got Garrett!

(Ooo...pretty picture. :) ) "Ah ain't no elf, ya burnt dead treadle!" Jake replies to his opponents, and again tries the heavy hacking attacks, seeing as these guys are TOUGH. (Btw, I did more than I thought last round, not using the right damage modifiers and my math was off due to sleepiness. This round, power attacking at -5) Jake pulls back slightly and reassesses, seeing as he has some side room now. Man, this is like hacking a tree, he thinks to himself. Time to show off to these foreign guys. He wishes he were fighting real opponents, for a moment. He hefts his sword and brings it sideways, twirling from his right to his left, using spinning momentum this time. It's like a game they used to play back in Rattledam, with a ball, a club, and a bunch of running. Jake was always good at that game. He winds up and swings, hard aiming just above the leg. If it had been alive, this orc would definitely lose some ability in bed, from the way Jake hits it. As it is, he only gashes it deeply at the chest. His second swing comes high, and he times it just right as the orc looks up towards him with those cold lifeless eyes to cut across its throat. If he dealt the killing blow, he sends the head toppling along the ground. Otherwise, the dead orc is now just missing a larynx and the ability to talk...big deal to something like that.
(Wow.. 2 natural 20's in a row! Great thing they were against undead :P I had to see how I would have done... Would have been 28 on first crit and 40 damage on second hit, but as it was, I did 17 damage + 4 cold on the first swing and 23 damage + 6 cold damage on the second swing. Still pretty damn good. I totaled up his bonuses and realized, Jake does 1d10+ 4 (str) +1 (sword) +2 (specialized) +5 (power attack) +1d6 (freezing damage) +2d6 (if he gets the rogue sneak attack). Pretty vicious for a non-frontline fighter.)
Flea Tuesday July 26th, 2005 6:14:22 AM
Flea considers her bow rejectedly. She can't shoot these things, she just isn't strong enough, nor can she stab them where it hurts because they're undead. Perhaps there's some other way to help them... She considers what she has, and says aloud.. "What we need is a good steady fire, to keep them down. I'll prepare that, guys." And she breaks out her torch and flint and steel and begins getting one ready for everyone...
Anuk (AC 21, HP 43/43-Bless,prayer) d20+9=25 d8+1=5 Tuesday July 26th, 2005 11:32:29 AM
(OOC: can't see the map due to a new web filter at work -- has the whole imageshack.com domain blocked for some reason. I am assuming the wolf that attacked Garrett is near Anuk.)
Anuk hears Trellus' voice distant in the background. His mind is occupied with the sight of the wolf ripping into the young Ice Vein ranger. The spray of blood brings him from his reverie and suddenly all the sounds, noises, smells, and sights of the battle come into focus for the Anuk.
"Garrett!!" he shouts. With fluid movement his bow is stowed, replaced instantly with his longsword. He charges at the wolf. "Die!!"
Hits AC 27 (forgot to add in luck and bless bonuses) for 5 pts.

Garrett (AC:21 HP:12/16) Tuesday July 26th, 2005 1:21:00 PM
Garrett's eyes flutter open as he receives the healing touch from Trellus. Looking up he sees Bohdi and Trellus over him. "Thank you my friends."
Garrett gets to his feet as his thoughts from the last few seconds come back to him.
This is gonna hurt. followed by: I guess you may pass after all. followed by: I hope Bohdi doesn't go through my pockets looking for loose change(lol)
Upon standing Garrett realizes just how outmatched The Ice Veiners are here.
Garrett yells out "Ice Veiners, we are completely outmatched here, and we can do little to aid this fight. The prophecy said that the time would come when we would need to leave the bloodpack to finish, and go our own way. I think that that time is now."

Death to no End Round 4
Garret falls in a spray of blood and Bohdi musters courage beyond himself and steps into the strike range of the wolf corpse and grabs Garret to pull him back. Squork flies about trying to distract the wolf and aid his master.
Gilan calls a second gout of flame down upon the trolls before Mac. Both crumple to ash under the onslaught of holy fire.
Trellus bestows Garret with Domi's healing and then moves to hold off the wolf, a wand coming to his hand as he does so. The Domi Hammer strikes the Troll once.
Garret scrambles to his feet and recalling part of the prophecy, he suggests to his Wunjos that this might be the part when they are to abandon the the Blood pack
Nauthiz'Ull fights back against the orc zombie, but the creature chuckles a deep thoaty laugh upon being struck by his blade. "Icccceeee Peeeaakeerrrssss issss weeaaaak" Just beyond the orc, Nauth can see a faint outline in the wall, a side door perhaps.
Aiden steps up to the front passed a paralyzed Anuk and swings at the Wolf in front of him and Trellus.
Mac, with both trolls down, turns and swings hard at the wolf that nearly killed Garret. Both axe blows and his horns tear into the creature. Ice and frozen flesh fly from the impacts. The wolf turns a cold glare towards Mac
Gry first hit destroys the troll and he carries the blow through into the wolf. This is followed quickly by a second powerful blow. Bone and frozen muscle exposed the wolf still attacks.
Jake's momentum carries his blade clean through the orc and the corpse collapses to the floor.
Anuk shakes the fog from his mind and looks to move into help Trellus, but the cleric and Aiden are currently filling the gap between the column and wall.

"Uh, people ... it looks like we're about to have more company," Bohdi pointed down the center of the temple toward the crowd of zombies that had appeared there. "We're going to need some fighters to plug this gap!"
Sidestepping to gain a clear angle (5' step to I2), Bohdi offered what little assistance he could to Mac. Aiming his fingers at the undead wolf that confronted the taur (Wolf 3), Bohdi announced, "Instantum illuminarum projexit!" A brilliantly white rune appeared at the gnome's outstretched fingertips, coalesced into dazzling bead of light, and shot out toward the wolf, exploding into a flare of bright light right in front of the wolf's eyes! (Cast: Flare. DC 14, FORT save, or dazzled for 10 rounds.)
Squork again sought to aid his master, (Aid Another 5), but failed to help.

Ulgren quickly took his hands out of his deep pockets and flexed them, "By all the gods its cold here," Ulgren cast a spell with a quick gesture and carefully guarded word and began moving in the direction of the fight. "Hopefully this will be them," the drow said to himself and began striding in the direction of battle.

Seeing and hearing that Trellus is in a way of his own he will try and move towards the down Icepack member. If he can reach him and still use his spells he will call upon nature to send healing into the downed man. "I got this one Trel...you hold that side as best you can."

Bohdi, having pulled Garret to safety, turns to help Mac. A spell flies on his lips and through the wind with a blinding flash in the Wolf's milky white eyes. Hopefully the Evocation school based spell will take hold on the creature.
Mac levels out two more almost perfect strikes, by the gods these creatures were easy targets, but sturdy. Masses of frozen tissue is cleaved from the bones, but the wolf still growls back. Mac slashes in with his great horns and this time the wolf returns no sound, but falls to the floor.
Garret moves in and grabs the barbarian stranger who was so readily willing to put his life in harms way and calls out for an exit and healing.
Trellus is about to test his theory that Positive energy that cures the living will harm the unloving, when Mac dismantles the wolf before him with three well placed blows. The cleric instead heads towards Garret and the fallen Barbarian, dropping the wand by Flea on his way. The hammer hits the troll 2 more times, yet it is hard to tell if the troll even realizes the floating weapon is there.
Gilan too, moves to Guloith's aid and heals the young man. His eyes flutter open and his breathing eases to a steady rhythm.
Guloith gets to his feet and thanks Gilan for the assistance. Pulling a javelin he moves to Nauthiz'Ull's aid. (AC 13 9/18 HP)
Grymash steps to be able to intercept the incoming wave and delivers two more thunderous blows to the wolf. More flesh flies from the moving carcass and skitters across the floor. The wolf's jaw snaps wide and it lunges for the man in front of it.
Jake readies for the wave to come in and as they pass he lands two solid blows, but the zombies keep coming. (Jake's readied swing hits Wolf 1 and AoO hits Z7)
Mac too, cleaves into the small horde as they rush through the ranks. (I rolled Mac AoO Z7, Z8, Z0 and Za. Hit AC 28/33/28 Dmg 19/15/19) Z7 is killed, Z0 and Z9 are wounded.
The wolf before Aiden has been destroyed. Seeing Garrets sword lying on the ground where he originally fell, Aiden grabs it and moves to help Nauthiz'Ull.
Skalti's voice is quiet DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {"Natives and outsiders fighting as one? Gods the Prophesy!" } His voice then lifts above the din of battle "Kill the Ice Peak villagers, do not let them escape!
The wolves seem to ignore the call.
Wolf 3 on Mac bites at him, poorly. Very Poorly (Hit AC 15)
Wolf 1 moves to follow Garret and Guloith, but they are just out of reach. But any Domi cleric will do in a pinch. It targets Trellus. (Hit AC 15)
Wolf 4 moves in on Grymash and the teeth find his flesh. (hit AC 28 Dmg 12+2=14)
A zombie closes with Grymash as well. An icy clawed hand striking out. (Hit AC 21)
The rest of the zombie orcs attempt to surge past and get to the Ice Vien natives. mass charge sends Mac's axe into overdrive. One falls and the other two close on Bohdi with great gashes through them. One of the hideous creatures had a line on the gnome and attacks. (Hit AC 9)
On the other side of the pillar in near darkness, the zombie again mocks the ranger "Weeaaksss, sssooooo weeeaaksss are you." (hit AC 17 Dmg 6+2=8)

With a hideous zombie orc confronting him, Bohdi began to squeal, the piercing high-pitched noise that gnomes tend to make when facing mortal danger. His first instinct was to run.
But no! Flea was right behind him!
Gritting his teeth and growling fiercely, the gnome illusionist drew his enchanted dagger and stood his ground. "Back you devil! You shall not taste gnomish blood this day!"
He swung at the zombie more defensively than with any intent to do harm, knowing from experience that he was unable to muster enough force to damage the frozen undead. (Fight defensively, -4 to attack, +2 to AC.) Squork, too, aided in Bohdi's defense, pecking and fluttering to distract the zombie (Aid Another, with +5 MAB, 17 should be success, +2 to AC). That Bohdi's attack was ineffectual (Attack 11, -4 = 7) was entirely predictable.
HEY DM's! Bohdi cast Identify on this dagger some time back (see below), but I never heard a result. What the heck is this dagger?
Bohdi Nackle Friday June 10th, 2005 4:32:26 PM A stray thought crossed Bohdi's mind: is this really some strange delusion, a dream, perhaps the tricks of an evil djinn? After all, here he was with the gnome of his dreams, tucked away in a secluded place ....
Unlike many of the others, Bohdi had never had a difficulty puttering for days on end. In fact, the down-time allowed Bohdi to pursue one of his pet projects: using one of the pearls that had been gifted to him upon passing the rite of passage, Bohdi cast the spell to identify the enchanted dagger that he had carried since the haunted cave on Burfell....

You may think it is kind of funny but the bear is wearing fingerless gloves, a ring and necklace...things that would be out of place on any animal. A shining slingstone lays upon the ground where Gilan had been standing earlier.

The cleric is annoyed. He's cut off from Gry and Mac. And again, if he backs up, he exposes an Ice Dude.
"Flea, grab that wand and fix up Mac," he tells the gnome.

Grymash has taken a great deal of damage. Yet he hardly seems to notice. He continues to sway into the oncoming hordes of undead. Gargul demands it!
Grymash continues to hack at the wolf(1). This beast is stout but he feels its time is near. There's not much still holding that hairy meatbag together. Grymash sees the glowing 'Closed Eye of Gargul' looming over the beast. Gargul's mark of death. Gry can feel, even within his rage, Gargul's crooked smile gleaming upon him with each fallen undead. The expression on Grymash's face no longer carries the grimace of a feral, howling beast. His jaw now hangs agape and his swollen, bloodshot eyes are rolled back into his head. A face enraptured with holy ecstasy. A state of being that followers of Gargul call the 'Death Mask'.

Aiden gives back Garrets sword and moves to Nauth's aid to avoid a bad handoff the two slow up a bit as the exchange is made.
Garret takes the sword and is about to go to BOhdi but then remembers e has been calling for his fellows to move to the side door before they are cut off and does so. He casts magic weapon on his sword.
Gilan becomes a bear and looks for an opening.
Anuk steps in and swings at Z0, two blows tear through the frozen creature sending crystallized blood and blackened organs spilling everywhere. The creature topples.
Bohdi lets out a squeal, but stays his ground and jabs his dagger at the monster striking the air nearby. Defending his girl.
Flea finds the act very sweet, but not so bright. With torch in hand she is about to let the nasty have it, but Anuk has already removed that particular problem.
Gry enters the 'Gargul zone' and rains heavy blow after blow on the descimated wolf. It only takes one and therefore the others are directed at the orc zombie. A creature which proves to be not made of the same stern stuff the wolves are. Wolf 1 and Z8 go down.
Mac blasts Wolf 3 with axe and horn as the orc zombie that was his target falls. The blows are powerful and many bones and vital organs are exposed, but to the undead wolf the grevious wounds are not registered.
Jake moves in and strikes wolf 4 twice, putting the mirst marks in this battle upon the creature.
A new comber shows up at the door. Again, very underdressed for the Vein with but a wolf skin cloak and the rest of his attire is set for a much warmer climate. Long silver hair falls over his shoulders and Dark elven features.
Trellus pulls his symbol and light floods the entire room. His call towards the undead goes unheeded however. The hammer swings on.
Guloith jabs with his javelin and then moves around to the door. His javelin, though is turned aside.
An orc steps up and swings at Bohdi, but Squork distracts the creature just in time, saving the young gnome from considerble pain. (z9 Hit AC 22)

Wide-eyed, Bohdi watched as Anuk made short work of the horrid zombie. He looked up and shook a fist at the other gruesome abominations in the room.
"You see that?" he cried. "You mess with me, you mess with all of my friends!"
Heeding Flea's advice, Bohdi stepped back (5' step to H1) to open up the fighting lanes for Gilan, Anuk, and Flea herself. "Right, you show 'em, darling," he gestured her forward proudly.
Just then, Bohdi caught sight of the newcomer at the door. He sized up the dark elf skeptically. "What's this? Another of the Fey King's minions? Didn't we have enough of you people with that bloody elf-dream?" He readied his trusty Color Spray spell to cast on the elf should he turn out to be more kin than kind.
Squork moved to aid Flea, now that she was in the potential line of attack (Aid Another, 13, success: FLEA: ADD +2 TO YOUR AC AGAINST THE FIRST MELEE ATTACK THIS ROUND.).
Trellus (ac 23, bless5, prayer6, spt wpn4, magic vestment) 4d8(1+2+6+4)+8=21 d8=6 d20+13=22 d20+8=13 d8+3=4 Thursday July 28th, 2005 3:56:53 PM
Trellus steps in behind Jake, which also puts him close enough to get to Grymash. He lays hands on the big guy, getting some healing into him.
[Cure Critical Wounds over Spell Immunity - 26 hp healed]
Then he turns to face the dudes behind him.
"Flea - Pick up the wand and heal Mac!
Gil - Get over there (waving to the 4 ice veiners in the corner) and cover them.
AND YOU! (Bodhi) GET YOUR WHITE FACED BODY OUT THAT THRICE GRASS BITTEN DOOR WITH YOUR FRIENDS BEFORE I KILL YOU MYSELF!!!
Very belatedly he sees the newcomer. He don't look dead. Looks like a spellcaster. Trellus isn't in a very good mood, which may explain his tone. "If you got fire, put it over there." (points to the general vicinity of H7).
The hammer swings on [atk ac22 for 4hp damage atk ac13] [Should I even bother rolling?] on a 13? ummm no. on real hits yes, though you're damage has been lack luster. for ex. 4 doesn't do much :) have i mentioned my true fondness of deviousness at the creation of the 'Frozen Dead?
Nauthiz'Ull [ac19 hp3/20: Prayer, Bless] d20+2=5 Thursday July 28th, 2005 4:27:43 PM
Nauth feels a quick and slight sense of relief as his wunjos arrive around him.
"Sorry Skalt if we can't stay! Destiny awaits and all! Wish that you could join us, but hey, you gotta be alive to be a wunjo!"
Nauth swings again as he just tries to keep the orc at bay until the Veiners are all ready to move.
"A little help here wouldn't hurt big guy!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A-5 D-hmmm. Attack defensively -4 att / +2 AC

As the orc strikes home Mac makes a little mental note to self: Don't argue with he who speaks the words of Domi!
He looks puzzled at z9, wondering why it is still standing. "Help get the Icers out!" he bellows, as he tries to remove a few orc popsicles from the picture.
Order of viable targets: z9(flanked), za(flanked), zb, Wolf3. Cleave ready, but not rolled.

Attack: 20ac Damage: 13hp
"Aiden, you first through the door, then you Nauth. Both go now, we don't know what's on the other side, you may have to clear a path. If there is no opposition, take positions on either side of the door, covering our retreat from this room."
"Stranger(referring to Guloith) if you can hold for one more round, stand by me til then, making sure we have a clean path to the door, and then you go next. I will move into your spot until Bohdi gets his backside over here. If Bohdi is already here or through by then, I will be right behind you."

Ulgren : AC 19 Hps 33 Mage Armour 7d6(6+6+5+6+5+1+4)=33 Thursday July 28th, 2005 9:20:21 PM
Ulgren looks surprised to hear such a familar voice that his jaw falls open and for a moment the drow is stunned. Ulgren is snapped back to reality and turns to the combat inside the darkened room. Pushing his smoke colored glasses up on his forehead, Ulgren spies the troll and stretches out his hand, pointing his finger between the wolf(4) and the troll(4) aiming just behind them both. A glowing bead flies from Ulgrens outstretched right finger and explodes just behind both of the frozen nasties. (Fireball 33 dmg Reflex 20 for 16). "Hows that?," Ulgren says in a low voice and a smile.
Gilan [HP: 83/83 - AC: 16]{wildshape: polar bear, greater magic fang, prayer, bless} d20+17=24 d8+10=14 Thursday July 28th, 2005 9:29:53 PM
Gilan moves in the direction of the door that the Ice Veiners are heading for. He will swing a large paw at the nearest enemy if one is in his path.
Computer refused to load the map for me today for some reason. I have also dropped the gloves, ring and necklace form effecting any of my scores. :(
Aiden (AC 16 HP 20) Thursday July 28th, 2005 10:41:17 PM
Aiden grumbled to himself, perhaps it was a curse for leaving the battle, or a vow to end the misery of these creatures, no one (other than he) could be sure.
"ok Garrett..." as he began to make his way to the door, "I'M GOING THROUGH..." It was more to let the others know just in case something bad was at or behind the door.
And he tries to open and go through the next door to the beyond (and unknown).
Flea (AC 19, hp 47/47, AC 21 vs. closest enemy) Friday July 29th, 2005 7:28:13 AM
Flea attempst to step out of reach, then move around to pick up the wand that Trellus has mentioned. (Which square is it in, Trellus?)
DM I got it no worries
Jake (AC 27, hp 42/57) d20+9=17 d20+4=23 d10=2 d10=7 d6=2 d6=1 Friday July 29th, 2005 7:32:53 AM
The gashes in his side are weird, icy hot! A word Jake has never really felt, but is sorta like his cooking... burning but sweet at times. Except this is more like a failed cooking experiment, 'cause it really hurts! But he stays strong. Trellus is using him for cover after all. Still, that freezing almost unnerves him. "Just think of the sun," He mutters, and swings his sword hard and down on the wolf's thick icy pelt, then jams his shield into its gaping maw as it tries to bite him again. He's still doing pretty good in combat, he considers, as he pushes the wolf a bit from him with a strong foot shove. "Damn dogs." (Power Attack -2 on the wolf 4, hit AC 17 and AC 23, did 13 and 18 physical damages, and 2 and 1 freezing damages to the wolf.)
