When Gilan leaps up and threatens revenge upon Dander, Corela puts her hand to her mouth and gasps.
"No, don't, I beg you. He will kill you. He is very powerful."
The comfort given by Nezamil seems to calm her. She wipes the tears from her eyes, and seems to again breath in courage. Excuses herself from the dining room for a moment:
"I do not have much, but I have a few meager belongings that I need to collect. I do not intend to return here. Dander will be very upset when he finds I have broken all of his dishes."
Corela is gone for a very short time, and returns with a small bag in which is stuffed a coat and a few personal items. She then grabs the knife off the tray that was used to cut the meat. Wiping the knife off on the table cloth, she tucks it into the bag. With what seems to be a second thought, she grabs the remaining breads and cheese and stuffs them into the bag. Slinging the bag over her back, she stiffens her shoulders and announces:
"No need to pay for breakfast or the room. Dander owes me back wages. Let's go. I suggest we go to Sister's Square. It is near Gargul's temple, and is the best street market in Plateau City."
Upon leaving the Inn, you head toward Sister's Square with Corela leading the way. Almost immediately, an eagle drops from the sky. Hobbits look up with apprehension, but the eagle screeches as it lands near Airin. A look of recognition seems to pass between them. After the shock of the eagle, Corela once again leads the group through the streets.
"I used to do errands for a merchant named Tueful. Perhaps we can gain the items you request there. If we take the back streets we should be there in less than an hour."
Kendry Saturday August 13th, 2005 2:54:54 PM
"The back roads sound fine to me," Kendry responds. As they wend their way, he speaks with Corela, "So, tell us about merchant Tueful. Is he kind? Honest? Shrewd? Fair?"
A thought occurs to him. "The follower of Marteaus we saw last night - if we all go poking around in the market - is there a chance that he or some of his ilk will note us there? It's right next to Skull Temple. Airin - I know you are good at hiding. And your eagle friend has eyes that can see from afar. Maybe you and at least one other of us can stay in the background, and keep keen eyes on any who may appear to take particular interest in us. Who among us - likely not wearing metal armor - can move quietly, or at least hide well, keep discreet?
"Meanwhile, when we draw close to the market, just before entering the area, I'll cast another message spell, so we can all communicate in that fashion." And, when they arrive at that point, he does so.
Kendry has the map of Plateau City nearly learned by heart - he just has yet had the opportunity to see only a portion of it before, from Adventurers Square and environs, including the Gold Dragons Castle, over to the Druids Quarter via the Hind Quarter, and touching on the Rogue Quarter. He looks to see whether they pass through the Circus Quarter and Trade Quarter before reaching the Rogue Quarter and Nightmare Quarter, or take a different bridge that bypasses the Trade Quarter -- well, let's just say he is very attentive to the path taken, and the shops, guild houses, taverns, temples, forts, theaters, and street signs they pass along the way.
Podo Sunday August 14th, 2005 10:25:29 AM
Podo volunteers to be a scout..."not wearing anything bu street clothes and rags too boot, should allow me to blend in..." whispers Podo to Kendry. "Do not forget to include me when you purchase items, Kendry" whsipers Podo.
Whispering quietly Lady Corela, "We will meet again, Lady Corela...I have an errend to do..."
If selected as an operative , he will blend into the crowds of peoples in the area that his armored friends head too.
Kendry Sunday August 14th, 2005 10:49:42 AM
"Great idea, Podo," says Kendry. He makes sure that Podo, and Airin (and anyone else who may wish to 'blend in') participate in the message spell before the group splits up.
Wilfire Ironhouse d20+11=29 Sunday August 14th, 2005 10:56:38 AM
Wilfire swigs back some milk and addresses Gilan.
"Not a doubt in me mind that yue'd teach Dander a lesson inside'a twenty seconds. Problem is lessons don't always stick when there beatin into a man. Better ta let dem learn on dere own... an wit Corela leavin, he may come to realize how much he needs her. If not, well den you an I pay him another visit."
(OOC- Dip 29)
Gilan Sunday August 14th, 2005 3:45:45 PM
Gilan looks to Corela and gives her a half-hearted smile. "As you wish...but maybe later." Sitting back down he notices that he has cut large furrows in the top of the table with his fingernails and laughs. He eats with gusto as he watches all that goes on around him. He is still ill at ease with what he has found out but with some of the suggestions made he seems to leave it be. "Light...Trell would cut my thread for even getting that worked up." Another smile cuts his face though as he speaks in a lower tone. "Gry though would have been happy to join in...Jake as well."
He nods to the dwarf, Wilfire and then speaks. "You maybe right...but what I had intended to rip off would have left him a new, well I hate to use the word "man"." Just the thought leaves him with a low rumble of laughter in his throat.
He is ready to leave when the rest of the group is and slips a small pouch into Corela's hands. He does not say anything but walks off shortly after giving it to her.
Pouch contains six little round white pearls of one-hundred gold value. Almost the last of his unspent money from the making process of Gilan.
Patterton Sunday August 14th, 2005 4:28:40 PM
Patterton shrugs at Kendry's suggestion. "Sure, count me in on that spell...interesting trick that. I'm not much for blending in, but it can't hurt to try, eh cuz?"
The large Hobbit seems to be getting antsy and he keeps glancing at the door, but he relaxes a bit when he sees that Gilan is also ready to leave. "Hey, mate,"He says to the Shapeshifter as they head towards the door,"remind me not to make you mad."
DM Kelly Sunday August 14th, 2005 11:41:41 PM
Corela looks down as Gilan puts something into her hand and walks away. Discreetly, she looks at it and then shoves it into her bag. Walking up to Gilan, she leans close and whispers to him (Gilan, hilite to display) Highlight to display spoiler: {"I don't know what to say. What would others think you were getting for the payment? Perhaps they would think that Dander was right."}
She then walks away from Gilan, and quietly says to the group: "Tueful is just like all in the market. He is in business to make money, the more the better. He is kind though, if you treat him as an equal. His shop is near the temple, it should take about an hour to get there, if we move slowly so as to blend in."
Airin and Podo break from the group, keeping them in sight as much as possible as the group slowly makes its way to the market. The path winds through the city, skirting busy streets and making use of small alleys. Stepping over hopefully sleeping drunks and walking through the foul smells of the gutters, you see few people. Then suddenly, you step out of the alley into an open fresh smelling market.
Soon, the bustle of the market is apparent. Vendors are at their booths, and the square is starting to fill with buyers. Penants flap brightly in the morning breeze around Sister Square. The smell of pasteries and cinnamon are in the air. Pots clang and smoked ducks swing in the breeze. The crowd of people make it difficult to see far, especially for the small folk. Corela leads you forward, and soon you are standing in the midst of the booths.
"Perhaps it would be best if he did not see me. I believe I failed to make a delivery the last time I was here."
As she steps to the side, you see a large man bartering with people outside his booth. The sight is somewhat shocking.
He is wearing a bright red silken shirt, with a purple sash tied around his bulging waist. His stomach sticks out well beyond the shirt, which does not even make it to his belly button. A large golden ring with a ruby stick out from his pierced belly button. You look up to see that he is wearing a small cap with a large green feather sticking up over his head. He smiles at you, and as he does you can see that teeth stick out of his mouth in all directions. As he speaks, you see that he has two rows of teeth.
"Welcome small friends, what may I help you with?"
Airin and Podo struggle to keep the group in sight, but they are lost in the crowd.
Kendry [message, 85 minutes] Monday August 15th, 2005 3:17:30 AM
Shortly before stepping out of the alley into the fullness of the market, (maybe five minutes' journey back), Kendry made sure that all - adventurers and guide - were within the range needed to benefit from the message spell.
"Good day, sir," Kendry answers him. "Books, souvenirs, garments, and the pleasure of doing business with you, sir. Word is you have books covering a number of subjects. Have you history? Mystery? Architecture? Theology? Gardening? How varied are the topics in the tomes you carry?"
Arm d20+9=18 Monday August 15th, 2005 5:58:04 AM
Feeling somewhat out of place, Arm looks around for a bit to see if he spots the spy from the previous evening. (spot=18)
Airin d20=9+10 d20=20+1 d20=12+10 d20=14+11 Monday August 15th, 2005 8:10:18 AM OOC : DM Kelly, you do seem to post rather quickly ! You've made a saturday AND sunday post, making it unable for me to make a post for Airin trying to keep of the group etc. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I am unable to enter posts during the weekend ... No whining, just asking to limit weekend posts ... Now let's see how Airin and Podo can find the group back ;-)
Airin's most happy to see Erwen, her Eagle, has found the way to the inn as well. She mentally exchanges a thought with Erwen : "Dear friend ... we will be the eyes and ears of this group. Please fly above us keeping an eye on the group ahead, and me and Podo."
"Podo ... did you see where they went ? I seem to have lost track of them ... "
Hoping the message spell still works, Airin gives it a shot and hopes Kendry can hear her : "euh Kendry ... you hear me ? ... euhm ... I'm embarassed to say, but do you care to tell me where you went ? We seem to have lost you. Or else can you come back the same way so you can find us ..."
She gives a light whistle, and usually Erwen comes down immediately. If she does, Airin asks her where the group went ...
As a last resort , Airin tries to find someone that looks somewhat "reliable" : "Greetings sir, me and my friend here are visiting the city, and we would like to visit the market. We heard there's a bookstore around there with a man who sells the latest prayer books ? Could you please tell us what direction we have to take ?"
Gilan Monday August 15th, 2005 12:40:15 PM
Gilan looks to Patterton and gives him a bright smile, that exposes pointed teeth. "That may have seemed angry...but wait and you will see." He then makes off with the rest. He follows along but does not pay too much attention to his surroundings really, the smell is enough.
When they reach the vender that they are looking for he steps off beside Corela and lays a gentle hand upon her shoulder. "Let them think what they will ma'am...at least Gilan and Corela know the truth." His smile widens and he laughs lightly. "That is all that is needed." He waits for those more civilized to get what they are needing for thier mission.
Nezamil d20+5=19 Monday August 15th, 2005 4:42:46 PM
The dwarf joins the entourage and follows Corela to the market place stopping enroute to purchase a couple pastrys " yum these are good " murmers Nezamil as munches on his pastry's acting like he's browsing the booths as he weaves his way thru the crowd with the rest of the gang " wow these are nice canes "comments the dwarf to one vendor " might stop by later to pick one up for my pa " and to another " nice hats sir what type of leather are they ?" inquires Nezamil as he drops hints(via message spell) to their where abouts to his unseen friends as he unobtrusivly looks about (d20+5=19 spot ch for anyone missing) as he stops at a vendors booth " these barrels would be good for pickling ma's veggies" Finally reaching the booth with the large man the dwarf is about to speak up but Kendry beats him to it
Podo d20+5=8 Monday August 15th, 2005 10:58:55 PM
"Ah, Airin, I think we've been seperated from the rest of the group. See if Kendry can hear you using that spell of his..." Podo says to Airin. "I'll look and see if I can spot them or anything else that might b interesting..." Podo says while scanning the crowd and the area. (Spot = 8) "I could jump, but I wish not to draw too much attention to us...Just stay close...wanna hold hands?" says Podo.
Wilfire Ironhouse Tuesday August 16th, 2005 12:59:58 AM
Wilfire followed Gilan and the others to the market.
"S'excuse me" he said as he passed through the crowd. "Can't see nothin down here. I'm a bush among the trees."
Kim: OOC [Please reread regarding Kim's note - DM Kelly] Tuesday August 16th, 2005 1:13:35 AM
[Every party member, and Corela, have the message spell. You can whisper or talk, and all in the group will hear. It lasts 90 minutes, of which 85 are left. If you're one who likes to keep track of what spell effects are on your character, you can add the spell countdown next to your character's name - or just refer to Kendry's, as you please.
Don't panic if you can't see us from where you are - there is likely time to figure that out - and Kendry is not about to start describing where he is as he is engaged in direct conversation with this merchant. Other group members may find creative ways of noting where they are. Chris's Nezamil is doing a good job in this regard...
Also, Corela did not come with the group that is talking with the merchant, as DM Kelly mentioned she 'failed to make a delivery' to him last time he asked her to. Thus, she likely is hanging back somewhere, keeping her distance from him. Read DM Kelly's post from Sunday.
Reference points given by Kim are wrong, Marteaus has taken over the old Gargul temple, the Gargul temple is now in the Hindquarter, labeled as the Three Sisters Temple.
----------- Aha! Kendry got sold a bum map - one from the time prior to the YOA! I'll tell ya, he is really upset! - Kim <wink>
Patterton d20=14 Tuesday August 16th, 2005 4:24:55 PM
Patty leans up against the booth and crosses his arms as the others examine the goods. He doesn't feel like standing on his tip toes to see them anyway. Instead, he keeps a keen eye on the crowd for any sign of his friends(spot 14) or anyone taking any particular interest in the group.
DM Kelly Tuesday August 16th, 2005 5:51:28 PM
OOC: Sorry about the rush, my traveling days are over and I will now settle into an afternoon post M-F.
Tueful smiles down at Kendry, his rows of teeth distorting his lips and seemingly making speech difficult. In his high and and sometimes loud voice he responds:
"Faithwares, that is the name of the business. Anything that you need to worship and gain favor of the gods, I carry. It is widely known that those who purchase their incense, sacrifices, books, beads, and clothing from me are held in higher regards by the gods. Do not buy inferior goods from the others, the gods prefer mine. Of course, if you seek to cheat the gods with inferior offerings then you might want to seek out my competitors."
He smiles, spreading his arms to show the vast array of items he carries.
Airin and Podo can hear the message of Kendry, and know that he is nearby. You cannot see anyone who wears the robes of the red eye of Gargul.
Kendry Tuesday August 16th, 2005 6:16:47 PM
"Ah, Faithwares it is," Kendry replies. "Nice orange pavilion you have here, and nearly opposite the entrance to the temple - a convenient spot, I must say. Are those sausages I smell? A quick question. If one of my friends here had a new prayer book for yonder temple, what might you be willing to pay for it? Mint condition, that is. Oh, and would you carry some of those black hooded robes for folk who are petitioning the Lord of the Hereafter, as it were? And, are there any musical instruments favored by the gods that you sell?"
Kendry walks the nearby aisles as he talks with the big man, just getting a feel for the quantity and quality of the goods he offers, picking up this or that - the first time he does so, he asks permission - "May I?" but each time carefully placing it back. He wants to make it clear he is an interested buyer, and no thief.
Podo d20+5=7 Tuesday August 16th, 2005 11:12:00 PM
Knowing that Kendry is near, Podo places his hands on Airin shoulders to reassure her that they are not lost. "Airin, you look on the left and I'll look on the right..we are close to your brother. "
Podo tries to spot anything out of the ordinary, but hsi statue and the distance between friends has caused his some confusion...he sees everythng and nothing!
Gilan d20+8=12 d20+8=25 Tuesday August 16th, 2005 11:18:27 PM
Gilan continues to hang back by Corela and keep an eye upon the crowd. He can feel the press of all those people and it is starting to make him a little nervous. What he would not give for the wide open plains of the Sargrass and the grass that spreads above your head so tall you cannot see the sky. His nose wrinkles with the smells and he wishes for a minute and even thinks about changing his form and flying away. "Will you guys hurry up already." There is a tinge of anxiety in his voice but this is all said in a low whisper.

Nezamil d20+5=10 Wednesday August 17th, 2005 12:47:13 AM
The dwarf hangs out on the opposite side of the vendor's booth from Patterton .
Feeling at home in the crowded market place memories of a misspent youth flood back as the sounds and smells fill the air .....the dwarf calmly peers about as he munches on his pastry peering (d20+5=10 spot ch) into the moving mass of people for his new friends.
Nezamil smiles as the vendor makes his pitch " heh the gods prefer his stuff " chuckles the dwarf to himself "widely known heh" the Cleric of Domi faces away from the big man into the mass of people to hide his big grin so Kendry can barter with the vender without the dwarf breaking into fits of laughter
Airin and Erwen d20+10=22 d20+8=11 d20+16=32 Wednesday August 17th, 2005 7:18:36 AM
"Sure Podo, let's see if we can find them. I heard Nezamil talk about several things he saw along the way ... it shouldn't be too hard to find them and .. euh ... yeah let's hold hands so we don't loose eachother" Airin smiles to Podo
Right now Podo and Airin must look like two children enjoying a holiday visiting the market place ... the only things that disturbs this lovely image are their Bastard Swords and crosbow slung over Airin's back ...
Erwen keeps circling above their heads. She's not too fond of crowded places and prefers to keep an eye out for trouble from up above.
Keeping her eyes open Airin slowly follows the road that leads to the Temple of Gargul ... after all, that's where they were supposed to go.

DM Kelly Wednesday August 17th, 2005 5:13:45 PM
Teuful looks down at Kendry with a puzzled look.
"You seem to ready to play for the gods. Can you play songs of devotion on the lute, or do you prefer the crowds at the Inns? I'll bet its the Inn you prefer. Crowds get rough there, and I see you have the means to defend yourself should your music not sooth the drunkards."
Then letting out a big laugh, his belly shakes and spittle sprays from his unevenly spaced teeth.
"No matter, what was it you said? Buy a prayer book? Oh no, I would not carry anything that was not directly blessed and distributed by the servants of the gods themselves. Perhaps your friend could sell to those whose business is from the back alley. They do not seem to care for the gods nearly as much."
As Kendry picks up items, Teuful watches him carefully and nods as permission is asked.
"Yes, we do carry robes of all sorts. See here, we even have shorter robes for those who stand nearer the ground. The black ones for the temple of Gargul are very fine indeed. As for music, Gargul loves to hear the haunting sound of a flute, or so I hear."
Holding up a flute carved from bone, with scrimshaw work of skeletons, he says:
"This flute will be sure to gain you favor. It is a fine instrument, but I would be willing to let you have it for 60 gold pieces. I will throw in the silken case for free, but do not tell others of the price. I will be forced to sell everything at a loss, and soon will be out of business. If it is Gargul that you wish to impress, I suggest that a fine robe for 5 gold pieces and a prayerbook written on the finest parchments by a servant of Gargul himself for 10 gold pieces will put you in good favor."
Airin and Podo can see a big man, with a wild assortment of teeth talking about prayerbooks and black robes just a few stalls away. He seems to be looking down at a customer as he speaks.
Kendry [message, 83 minutes] d20+4=24 Wednesday August 17th, 2005 7:14:14 PM
"Life is such that we sometimes sing songs of joy, of love, of springtime - and sometimes songs of war, or even play the dirge, sir," Kendry answers Teufel. "Gods who are worthy of worship, we ought to attend to, and give honor where honor is due. There are some powers whom the honorable, even if weaker than these powers, must oppose - through wit and wisdom." Then, his eyes twinkling, he adds, "And drunkards can sometimes be soothed, or dodged, or set on one another, or tripped up."
He looks over the scrimshaw flute. [Appraise 24 (Nat 20) - his reaction to Teufel's offer will depend upon his evaluation of the instrument. Kendry crafts musical instruments with his father, and they have a music shop. If he notes flaws, etc., he will casually point these out - and, conversely, if of good quality, those points, as well. Teufel will know he is not dealing with a total rookie here.]
Kendry considers the sizes of his companions. "Let me draw you what we'll need, then," he says as he reaches into his haversack, pulling out a piece of parchment, an inkpen and vial of ink. He sits crosslegged, haversack on his lap as a drawing board, and quickly sketches outlines of himself and the other members of his party. No faces, just relative sizes. Kendry, Podo and Airin are fairly close in size. Patterton is about his height, but about 50% bigger in the chest and torso, with meatier limbs as well. Next size up are the dwarfs, Nezamil and Wilfire. Finally Armathen the half elf bard, the human pack-runner Gilan, and the now-former waitress, Corela. He doesn't know whether she will want one of the robes, or to accompany them in, but he will let her make that choice.
"This, sir, represents myself. So, we'll need three robes of roughly my size - one a little bit shorter, as you can see. A fourth my height, but bigger around - he weighs twice what I do, and is pretty strong. Wouldn't want his muscles to tear a robe too small for him. A couple of dwarf-sized robes. And a half elf, here," he points to his outline sketch of Arm, "and a human lady," he shows the more curvaceous outline. "That's nine robes, total. Nine prayer books - just want to use the blessed ones, right?"
"Now, the robes and an equal number of prayer books, how much?" he asks.
Gilan Wednesday August 17th, 2005 10:33:45 PM
Gilan continues to hang around but eases from foot to foot in impatience. He cannot understand what is taking so long and silently wonders if this shopping is worth it.
He runs his fingers through his hair as he yawns and then turns to Corela. "What will you do when we go to the temple ma'am?" He glances to Kendry and silently tries to will him into hurrying. His human nature does not allow him to be patient and then add in his slight animal qualities and it is worse.
Podo d20+5=6 Wednesday August 17th, 2005 11:25:43 PM
Podo whispers into Airin's ear, "Ah, I think we have found Kendry's rough location. Let us not break our hand hold lest we be swept up in these waves of marketeers!" "Airin, you keep a look out over on your side, and I'll try again on this side. Maybe we'll have better luck this time!?"(spot = 6[Nat1!])
With all the different races of people miling about, the relative sizes of them shuffling back and forth, combined with the limited movement Podo has (he's still hlding Airin's hand), Podo can't see anything but Airin!
Nezamil d20+5=15 Thursday August 18th, 2005 12:35:50 AM
The dwarf turns back to the vendor as he hears (d20+5=15 listen ch)the prices......taking a moment to recall what Domi's prayer books cost when he was an acolyte at Domi's War Cathedral
"hahahaha your pretty funny " laughs the Cleric of Domi " can't wait to inform the Priests of Gargul of your prices so they can come and chat with you about their commission "
" i'll pay 10 gold just to see that " grins the dwarf as his anvil pendant flashes slightly in the sunlight
With a nod at Kendry " his price is way too high lets seek what we need from another vendor " but the dwarf makes no move to leave giving the Bard a chance to make a counter offer and observe the vendors response
Airin and Erwen d20+10=19 d20+16=23 Thursday August 18th, 2005 3:10:25 AM
Hearing the talk about prayerbooks and robes makes Airin convinced the rest of the group must be close now.
Just as she was about to let go of Podo and simply walk that way she notices Podo appears to be lost in the crowd. A gentle pinch in his hand helps him to get back hit wits ...
"He guys, we've found you back", Airin whispers inside her mouth. "We won't come any closer though. Just make sure to keep talking, describing where you go if you are on the move so we can follow. Podo and I will walk in a straight line from where you are towards the Temple. Just clear your throat if you understand."
Then to Podo Airin says : "Come friend, let's walk over to the temple and check things out."
Seemingly admiring the surroundings and the temple, Airin walks towards the Temple of Gargul, making sure Podo follows her. Instead of marveling the architecture she keeps an eye open for anyone with particular interest in Teufel's shop and the ones in front, and looks for those Red Gargul worshippers on her way over to the temple.
Erwen continues to circle above the market place.

As Kendry examines the flute, Teuful comments:
"Nice piece of workmanship, art really."
"Plays nice too, sort of a soulful sound if you ask me."
Kendry turns it over and carefully examines the construction and design. You can tell the the scrimshaw work is nice, but that it is not the work of a master craftsman. The real problem is the design of the flute. While the open note sounds fine, the holes are not quite spaced properly for hitting all of the correct notes. As Kendry points out these aspects of the flute, a frown comes over Tueful, making his distorted mouth seem almost vulgar.
Nearby vendors notice that Teuful has been caught:
"Thought you had a good one there Tueful?"
"Just because they are small doesn't mean they are children, thought you knew better."
Tueful turns red in the face, and seems somewhat flustered. He turns and looks at Nezamil and then back to Kendry. In a meek voice he says:
"I am just a poor merchant, trying to make enough to keep my space here. Your weapons and armor made me think that perhaps you have recently come back from some grand adventure, with gold and jewels. I am sorry, I will give you a fair price. In fact, these are the old prayer books. I will give you the new ones for free."
Tueful brings up new prayerbooks, that have a much more recent date. They have the offical stamp of the temple, which the others lacked.
"If you still desire the robes, I will provide them for a price of 5 silver apiece. That truely is below my cost. The flute, well I don't think you will be wanting that."
Meanwhile, Corela and Gilan watch from a distance. Corela responds:
"I cannot help you further, as I do not know the ways of the temple. There is a fruit market here that I always wished to own. The woman is getting old. Perhaps these pearls will help her retire and me to get started. Are you sure it is okay? I feel that I am taking too much."
Airin and Podo can hear the discussion, and know that Kendry and Nezamil are shrewd negotiators. Erwen flys above, ignoring the pigeons for now. As they walk towards the temple, they see a priest wearing the Red Eye of Gargul throw a coin to a beggar. He then buys a bunch of grapes, and slowly eats them while wandering about.
Wilfire, Patty and Arm stand about, seemingly bored.
Gilan Thursday August 18th, 2005 8:50:29 PM
Gilan does not look at Corela as he hides the smile with his hand. That is one shrewd halfling and dwarf he absently thinks and that merchat got what he deserves...well maybe by human standards. "Use the gems as you see fit...I have no need for them right now." He does look at her as he says the next though. "So I help two people get out of a situation that will allow them some more ease...help her out with retirement and ease...set yourself up to be your own boss." He glances to the group and then nods his head. "If you want go on ahead and talk to the lady about that fruit market...I will explain to the others and they will be happy."
He will take her hand and kiss it lightly if she decides to leave and talk to the woman about the fruit market. "May Mother Wold watch over you." If not he will wait to give her the same wishes and respect later when she goes her way.

Kendry takes a platinum piece and twelve gold pieces from a pouch. "This is five and a half times what you are asking - and two elevens of what you originally requested. We'll take only eight robes and eight new prayer books. I trust that you will see at least some small profit from this - and know that I hold no ill will against you," he says with a serious face. "Windfalls," he adds with a little grin, "are pleasant from time to time."
He takes the sketch, and points to the figure of the woman. "She'll not need a robe." He then takes another pair of platinum pieces from his pouch. "One last pair of requests, and a modest proposal?" he says, rubbing the two coins between his forefingers.
If Tueful seems interested, he continues, quietly. "Those who wear the red eye - any thing that a follower of the white eye might wish to know about them? Might you know any of their names? A discrete answer might be wise." He hands the parchment and pen to the merchant, should he care to write an answer. If the merchant is forthcoming, he gives him the first platinum piece, and takes back the parchment and inkpen.
And for the second, "There was a young woman who once had a problem with a delivery she intended to make to you. Would you be so kind as to forgive Corela when next you see her, just as I have tried not to be unkind to you, good sir?" Again, if Tueful indicates some sort of affirmation, Kendry gives him the second coin.
And for the proposal, he says, "My father is a master instrument maker. I would venture to guess that your profits might rise should you have praiseworthy instruments, that even a bard could love. My siblings also make decent quality standard instruments that those with less resources would be happy to buy, and not be disappointed. If you are interested, just say the word, and I'll put you in touch."
After inspecting the clothing and books, Kendry asks if Tueful can wrap six of the robes, and, separately, six of the eight books. One of the appropriately sized robes he keeps for himself, and the one sized for Nezamel he gives him, and a book.
He shakes the hand of the toothy and colorful merchant. "May you live so as to be well treated by Gargul in that distant day when you meet," he offers as a blessing.
Kendry asks Nezamel, with a whispered, "Thanks for backing me up!" if he can take the robes, and he'll carry the books.
As they leave the merchant's pavilion, he whispers for all, "We have what's required. Shall we meet back where I cast the message spell, pass out the books and robes, split up in pairs again, to remain apart until, say, a quarter hour shy of noon? Then we'll enter the temple - what, a pair at a time, staggered, or as a group? Arm - are you alive? Can everyone hear me? Boy, I'm hungry."
Patterton Thursday August 18th, 2005 9:30:02 PM
Patty chuckles, swatting Nezamil in the shoulder. "I knew Kendry had a keen eye, but it's good to see that he's not the only one. I guess we ought to pay the man." Patty counts out the coin and hands it to the vender.
Podo [message, 75 minutes] Thursday August 18th, 2005 11:00:23 PM
Podo whispers hoping that Kendry and the rest can hear him. "Ah, Kendry, Guys, and Gals...There's a Red robed Gargul servant out hear eating grapes and giving alms...what would you like us to do about it? Continue watching?" asks Podo to the group via the message spell.
"As for you plan, sounds ok to me. Airin and I make a good pair!"
Kendry Friday August 19th, 2005 12:00:49 AM
"Um, Patty, I paid him already," Kendry lets his good cousin know.
"Well, get some alms from him, Pode. Naw, just kidding. Keep doin' a good job keeping your eyes open. Mmmm - grapes sound good. All right, everyone - in the next 15 minutes or so, meet me back by the spell place - it's a ways away from here - try to make sure you're not followed. Pass out robes & books. Split into twos and threes."
Nezamil Friday August 19th, 2005 12:10:11 AM
With a smile at Teuful " well can't blame ya for trying " says the dwarf good naturedly
Accepting the pile of black robes from Kendry " your welcome " winks Nezamil " teamwork is very important in all things big or small " as Patterton swats his shoulder " we will need to work closely together in this endeavor in order for it to be a success "
"I think its best if we all stick together .....since your hungry why don't we meet for a bite to eat at one of vendors booths perhaps some lushious fruit? and hand out the stuff" adds the dwarf
Nezamil listens to Podo's voice " yeah i think the red robes know we're heading to the temple but i don't think they'll bother us more then likely they just want to keep an eye on us is my thinking " replies Nezamil via the message spell
Airin and Erwen [Message] d20+10=19 d20+25=43 d20+10=21 Friday August 19th, 2005 10:33:05 AM "Podo, see that Red Gargul Priest ? Let's follow him ... Guys we'll be back here at the Temple in a sec - just keep this message spell alive ... it works fantastic !"
Airin beacons Podo and hopes he agrees to do some stalking. "Let's buy some snack along the way so we don't look too suspicious - and let's try to avoid him seeing us - ok ?"
Looking up at Erwen, Airin sees the Eagle slowly circling the market place. She hopes Erwen will behave - after all with Erwen on her shoulder she would attract too much attention right now. "Be a good girl Erwen"
Slowly she starts to follow the priest - hoping he will either lead her to more of his kind. On her way Airin buys some grapes as well and whispers to Kendry with the message spell : "Hey Kendry - these grapes are delicious ... hehehe "
Rolls : Spot : 19 (spotting the priest and stalking him) Hide : 43 (to keep him from seeing Airin) Survival : 21 (to find back the road to the Temple)
DM Kelly Saturday August 20th, 2005 6:58:45 PM Corela and Gilan Corela is overcome with excitement as she talks to Gilan about her plans to buy the fruit stand.
"Come with me, it is just over here." She grabs Gilan's hand and a broad smile comes over her face. She is happier than you have ever seen her, actually happier than anyone you have ever seen.
She points a short distance from Faithwares (Number 5 on Sister Square map), where Kendry and Nezamil are in discussions for the items you need. .
Corela leads Gilan over to the fruit stand by the hand. Smiling and waving at the old woman at the stand.
"Olena! I've come back, for the stand. Just like we said. Someday I would buy the stand, today is the day! This is my business partner, Gilan. He has offered to pay for the stand, and I will run it. Please Olena, can we?"
Corela pours the pearls into the hand of Olena, who holds each of them up to the sun to appraise the value. With an old shaky voice, she says:
"If you will allow me to work from time to time, and provide me with fruit for my own use, then it is a deal." Olena then takes off her apron and hands it to Corela.
Corela jumps up and down, a grin plays across her face. Gilan can see why perhaps Dander had other ideas for Corela, but her joy is so pure that the thought of Dander seems to enrage you. Just then, the message comes from Kendry that they are done and you are to rejoin the group.
Meanwhile, at the Faithwares:
Tueful is astonished that the customer is offering more than requested. Bashfully, he reaches out and takes the coins.
"This is fair. Here, the robes and prayerbooks as requested."
Upon the mention of the Red Eye's, Tueful looks around with a worried look. Taking the parchment, he writes down:
They have come around more lately. They have not entered Gargul's temple, but seem to cluster near the entrance at times. They demand things from us, as patronage they say. Be careful.
At the mention of Corela, he smiles and looks around.
"Have you seen her? She was to bring me a delivery of some figurines and never showed. At first I was upset, then worried. Later I heard that she was robbed and beaten, and was afraid to come back here without them. That was three moons ago. She should not have worried, I would have believed her story. She is a good girl. I hope she is alright."
Tueful pushes the coins back at Kendry.
"There is no payment required. We caught the theives and made them pay."
Meanwhile, near the temple entrance: Airin and Podo walk along, eating grapes and trying to look casual. The priest walks slowly, nodding to people who mill about near the entrance. He does not enter the temple, but does wave to the priests of Gargul near the entrance. Then do not wave back. He does not appear to notice the two halflings who trail him.
As the message comes to meet back with the group, Airin notices that a man sitting against the temple carving a piece of wood is looking at them. He is well equipped with armor and sword. Instead of looking away when caught staring, he cuts off a large shaving of wood and smiles at the two grape eating halflings. You see the Red Eye of Gargul on his shield.
Meanwhile, at the dairy vendor: Wilfire is showing Arm how to chug milk.
"The secret you see is to not breath in, less the sour smell of the milk makes the liquid go in the wrong direction."
Wilfire then chugs a mug of milk and then hands one to Arm.
Airin and Erwen [Message] - Somewhere at the temple entrance Sunday August 21st, 2005 1:04:37 PM
Airin pokes Podo in his sides with her elbow to make him notice the man with the Red Eye of Gargul on his shield. Acting as if she's talking to just Podo she informs the others through the message spell of the one watching her and Podo.
Then, rather than panicking, she nods to the man.
"Podo, shall we get over there and talk to the man ?"
Slowly she stops stalking the priest and heads over to the Man staring at her and Podo (hoping he doesn't run away ) ...
"Greetings Sir. A lovely day isn't it ? This here is my friend Podo, and I am Airin ... we came a long way from the Crescent Valley to visit this city for the first time. You may have noticed that we were following that priest over there hoping to ask him permission to visit this temple or maybe ask him for a guided tour ... but we are a bit ... euhm ... shy to ask him ... We felt like visiting the Temple of Gargul as we've never seen it before in our lives !"
She openly gazes his shield continuing :
"Yet ... though I have seen His Symbols at various places, I have never seen one in a red color like the one on your shield ... Are you in some elite guard protecting this temple ? I could not help noticing the splendid armor and gear you have ... Podo and I try to be adventurers ourselves, but ... well ... we're only rookies compared to you it seems ... "
Suddenly she stops talking and quickly adds :
"oh I talk to much don't I ? Podo ! I told you to give me a nudge if I started rambling again ... "
Podo Sunday August 21st, 2005 7:56:08 PM
"Oh, what? Ho! I'm sorry Airin. I was lost in thought at his impressive gear, his wardrobe, and the temple. It is like nothing I'm ever seen. It's Amazing!" stumbles Podo on his emotions.
"Hello Mister! What roll do you serve in the temple, is I may ask?" Podo asks the man.
Wilfire Ironhouse Sunday August 21st, 2005 10:35:39 PM
Wilfire wipes the milk moustache from his face and waits for his friend to chug his bottle.
"To deh bottom wit' it" Wilfire cheered, letting his dwarvish accent slip into the words.
Nezamil Monday August 22nd, 2005 1:26:33 AM
The dwarf nods as their business concludes with Teuful taking note of what is written on the parchment " the Red Robes haven't entered the Temple? " Nezamil files that piece of info away for later use
As Airin's voice rings in his head " pesky fella "
"Lets keep together....teamwork is the key to success " adds the dwarf to Kendry and the others at Teufuls booth " don't think it makes much difference of where we pass out the goods the Red Robes have many eyes watching the square.....so i say lets just do it openly to show we aren't afraid of them ......act with courage " states Nezamil
Kendry Monday August 22nd, 2005 4:02:16 AM
"Getting a leg up on one's potential opponents need not be motivated by fear, Nezamil. Showing your opponent your cards before they are played is not necessarily courage, good fellow," Kendry whispers for the benefit of all. "Our merchant says the red eyes sometimes gather at the entrance. Surely if we all don the robes and enter en masse, this will give them time to organize. What if we pass out the robes once we are inside? What say the rest of you? Openly, outside, or once we enter?"
Kendry will abide by what the members of the group say. Meanwhile, he picks up some food from the nearby stalls, and waits to hear how Airin and Podo do. He opens his prayer book, and quickly begins reading the prayers, to learn what oracions are approved by the temple. As noon nears, he heads to the temple.
Gilan Monday August 22nd, 2005 6:19:47 PM
Gilan follows along with Corela and nods to the older woman. He gives her a smile that will hopefully not scare her. "It was my pleasure to help out Corela here and yourself." He looks to the fruit and indicates a few apples as he slips a few silver into her hand. "I would not mind a few of those apples...whatever these three silver will buy." He sends a message to Kendry that he is off to the side with Corela and that she is aquiring a shop of her own.
He takes Corela's hand and kisses it lightly as he shakes his head. This is the kind of woman that could give a man a start in more ways than one...if only he had the time and she was interested...he would love to get to know her better. "I fear that my friends are ready to go...I will leave you to your shop and if I see you again...buy some more fruit." He looks to the older woman and nods his head. "Lady Olena...it was a pleasure to meet you." He gives her a bow and then turns lightly to leave, hopefully with a few apples as well.
DM Kelly Monday August 22nd, 2005 6:29:07 PM
Airin and Podo approach the guard, sitting against the outer temple wall. He smiles as they approach, showing diseased gums and missing teeth. As they get closer, it is easy to see the sores that cover his hands and face. He moves slightly and his cloak slides off his shoulder revealing the sign of Marteaus emblazoned upon his tunic.
"Are you enjoying the grapes? My friend was just at the fruit vendor buying some also. I hope you don't come down with what we have."
He points to the fruit stand where a beaming Corela now stands behind the counter. Gilan is just leaving, with a small sack of apples.
The guard then goes into a coughing fit of laughter.
"May Marteaus bless you, and give you strength. Suffering will bring mental clarity. You seem to need clarity, as you have confused me with a follower of the misguided Gargul."
OOC: Not sure what the group decision is. Let me know what you are going to do and where. I would like to get better response from everyone prior to posting.
Nezamil Tuesday August 23rd, 2005 12:24:11 AM
The dwarf smiles at Kendry " i don't disagree with your assessment but i know from growing up here that the authority's in Plateau City don't take kindly to battles being fought in town even among rival factions "
"sorta bad for business " winks Nezamil " no sales ......nothing to tax......nothing for the city's coffers ......and you know how the city officals like to spend gold " grins the dwarf
"lets get everyone together and ready ourselves for a visit to the garguls temple .....by Domi this should be intresting smirks the Cleric as he tucks in anvil holy symbol under his shirt
" Podo ....Airin keep an eye out for us we'll head to the temple soon" whispers Nezamil via the message spell "we'll most likely draw the attention of the red robed ones stationed out front.....hopefully you can sneak in without them noticing" whispers the dwarf.
Podo Tuesday August 23rd, 2005 12:56:42 AM
"So, you are a Carrier of Marteaus then?" Podo asks of the guard. "Tell me, sir, have you truly been effective in reaching one's goals and needs? Have the sickness inspired you to develope your Great Need?" continues Podo to the man.
Whispering to his friends via the message spell, Podo informs them that they may all be in grave danger. "I don't know what it didn't dawn on me earlier, but these things are Carriers of Marteus...they spread spell dieases and insanity as their holy works...stand fast my friends...they have 4 holy days, one being the Day of Darkness which celebrates the triumph of Marteaus over Domi!"
Podo readies himself into a horse stance and urges Airin to be ready via the message spell and a whisper.
Airin and Erwen d20+16=28 Tuesday August 23rd, 2005 4:01:05 AM
Airin hears the voice of Nezamil in her head and somehow it's reassuring for her to know her companions are still around. Yet she's worried about Podo's reaction - there's no need to "invite" this man into a fight either. So far he has shown no hostility at all. Nor do we know if the one we saw at the inn was hostile ...
"You got me puzzled good sir ... you seem to worship Gargul yet bare the symbol of Marteaus as well ... and ... what do you mean with the misguided Gargul ?!? You feel this temple worships a wrong gargul then ? So ... you are here then to keep people from visiting this temple ? "
Airin looks around to check if her friends are coming towards the temple or not.
"One last question ... why was someone of your group spying on me and my friend yesterday evening ? "
Airin does not make a move to take her sword in her hand yet. She assume in case of trouble her friends will be there ...
Erwen feels the heartbeat of Airin go up and circles lower to the ground keeping a sharp eye out on the marketplace. Maybe she can spot more of these guys ?

Patterton Tuesday August 23rd, 2005 8:15:16 AM
Patty scans the priest with a wary eye. He isn't very schooled in terms of religious ins and outs, but it does seem a bit odd that a rival patron is hanging about so near the temple of Gargul.
When Podo mentions the spread of disease, Patty stops in his tracks. "Alright, now. I'm not so keen on this one. What do you mean to say, friend? If any of us come down with something..." The Hobbit gives the priest a meaningful look and inches his hand towards his sword.
DM Kelly Tuesday August 23rd, 2005 5:26:30 PM
The guard sits and patiently listens to Airin and Podo.
In reponse to Podo:
"We are all carriers, none in the Wold are pure. I have been blessed with a great trial to overcome, inner peace and clarity is mine, even as the body is wrought with pain."
In response to Airin, he answers:
"Of course Gargul is misguided, but we are not here to prevent people from visiting the temple. We are here to give a message and spread the 'word' of Marteaus. As for a friend, our people are everywhere, always watching. You seem a bit paranoid. Perhaps if you had the truth. Do you seek the ways of Marteaus?"
Soon, the rest of the party approaches the entrance to the temple near where Airin and Podo are conversing with the guard. Patty, feeling threatened, makes a move to his sword. The guard continues sitting, making no move except to answer Patty.
"We all come 'down with something' eventually. It is the way of the Wold. You cannot blame others for your trials."
As he speaks, you notice that other follers of Marteaus come from the crowd and encircle you at a distance. There are four priests of Marteaus and 3 additional guards. The priest that was watching you in the Red Wyrm Inn steps forward to speak. In a loud voice you are given a warning, yet his lips do not move.
"Do not continue this avenue of investigation. If you do, we will take strong actions to stop you. Fair warning has been given."
They make no aggressive moves, and do not draw weapons. You are within 30 feet of the temple entrance.
Nezamil Tuesday August 23rd, 2005 5:47:23 PM
The dwarf calmly observes the priest and guards as they encircle the group of 6 he walks confidently forward to the temples entrance " thanks for the warning " growls Nezamil
Still looking straight ahead " just keep walking " encourages Nezamil to his fellow travelers
The dwarf heads straight for the temple door striding confidently between the Red Robes in front of the temple door "till we meet again " nods Nezamil as he walks by and opens the temple door ....holding it open for his new friends
Gilan Tuesday August 23rd, 2005 9:07:51 PM
Gilan still holding the small bag of apples moves along with the others. "What did he mean by disease." He looks back to the priest and then back to those around him. His hackles do raise a little as he feels the need to do something...he does not enjoy being threatened.
Podo Tuesday August 23rd, 2005 9:35:11 PM
"Why Nezamil, you are quiet right. We shouldn't be distracted from our tasks...come along my friends, Nezamil is waiting for us..." Podo says very matter of factly to his commrades via the message spell as he walks away from these Carriers and towards Nezamil.
Patterton d20+11=29 Tuesday August 23rd, 2005 10:31:28 PM
Patty holds the priest gaze, unwavering as the others pass by him into the temple. Slowly, he looks about at the other followers of Marteaus, giving each of them the same cold stare. When he is certain that they do not intend to attack, he brushes off his shoulder with the hand that was hovering near his sword and follows his friends into the temple. As he passes the priest near the entrance, he stops and speaks to him in a low voice.
"Watch your step, Scabby. This had better be the last time we chat. Understand?" (intimidate = 29)
Patterton then enters the church.
Kendry Tuesday August 23rd, 2005 11:43:12 PM
"'Avenue of investigation?' We are attending the temple, sirs. Investigate that, if you please." Kendry joins Nezamil, and enters the temple.
[OOC to DM: I'm not sure how much time has transpired from the casting of the Message spell until now. Last time noted, 75 minutes of the 90 minutes were left. Please let me know how much more time, if any, is left for this means of communication. Thanks - Kim]
Airin and Erwen Wednesday August 24th, 2005 8:08:09 AM
Airin's startled at the sudden appearance of the Red Gargul Clerics and fighters. She felt the chat went pretty well ... untill now ...
"Yes Sir, I am the paranoid one in this group. That's why I asked you about it. Though it seems my friends are rather jumpy. I'll leave you to your business - I suggest you leave us to ours."
Then Airin leaves and follows her friends straight to the temple. Her hand now holds the hilt from her bastard sword and she tries to keep an eye out for those surrounding her.
She whistles to Erwen, and immediately the Eagle comes down and lands on Airin's lower arm. Erwen shrieks once and casts a nasty look upon the Red Gargul guys - though it's hard to tell when an eagle makes a nasty face ...
