Exit...to a Dream - DM Donna Tuesday September 6th, 2005 9:38:36 AM
The Talons quickly follow the passageway up and around to where the tunnel leads to the almost-light of the coming dawn.
"I think we're going to make it with a minute to spare..!" K'Nara announces as the group nears the end of the tunnel. Just before you reach the opening, however, a strange, shimmering-like phenomenon occurs--you not only see it, but you feel it as well...it is quite like having a dream, only all of you know darn well that you're awake...
You see before you landscape that is NOT the tunnel. The place is a sylvan clearing, pristine and otherworldly in its perfection.
The two figures that face each other are quite disparate: one is a stocky satyr, and the other is a delicate elven female--yet both radiate extraordinary power.
(OOC: all PCs who have participated or are now participating in the Dark Fae Rising games will immediately recognize Ebyron as the Satyr and Maab as the elven female...they will also recall the events played in the DFR game--thus realizing that this is a showdown of sorts between the chaos that is Ebyron and the discipline that is Maab...and that The Wold hangs in the balance.)
"You cannot continue to let loose the mindless forces of Nature, my former King," Maab said in a quiet but firm voice, "The Noble races that are now in The Wold are the ones that must live and die with the way they choose to inhabit the planet--whether or not you think their choices are wise. You are NOT the sole ruler of The Wold anymore...free will must be allowed to exist."
Ebyron's smile was both indulgent and condescending. Both emotions failed to register in his handsome eyes however, as though the eyes knew the true odds.
"All this time," he began, "I knew you'd cling to that crown. My dear Queen, did you think I would not anticipate this? Did you entertain the foolish notion that I would come meekly? Be your puppet?"
The satyr king gave a sharp stamp of his cloven hoof, and nearby branches veered away fearfully, only to return, swooning, as Ebyron stretched wide his arms.
"See the power I have! See nature's love for me! You have neither the right, nor the strength to deny me!"
He turned slowly, his arms still outstretched, his fingers beckoning. Energy gathered there at those fingertips - a wisp of flame, a tiny cloud of sand; drops of moisture and the tiniest, perfect little whirlwind.
And with such small gestures, the entire Wold came to rest - no wind, no rain, no fire, no tremors of earth. The elements gathered around their king, cloaking him in a strange mist.
"You want me tame and compliant, my Queen?" came his voice through the billowing cloud. "Then first, you must catch me."
The blast came with no warning, bringing with it a power that only Maab could withstand without falling. Across continents, dwindled fires burst to life again, blasting outward. Seas and lakes thrashed, the earth quaked, and howling winds tore at everything in their path.
Fragments burst from the cloud, being the essence of Ebyron, torn into a multitude of pieces and carried away by the elements.
In moments, it was over. But not before the fae queen had acted swiftly, gathering light into tiny, dazzling stars.
"Show me," she urged. Hot on the heels of the fragments of Ebyron, the stars hurtled outward. "You can't hide," she whispered. "Not from me. Now, show them. Let your own power betray you."
It took seconds for each pin point of light to reach it's destination, and once done, change trajectory and converge...
Within the walls of the Cathedral of Light, in the middle of Plateau City, the Room of Artifacts suddenly burst into life. The source? Ebyron's orb, so recently brought back, at great risk and loss of life, from a time gone by. Colors and shapes reflected on the walls, and light surrounding the orb grew outward, becoming the great disks of The Wold. Pinpoints of brilliance flickered here and there, scattered across the Land. Here lies Ebyron. Here. And here...
Back in the Valley, the Fae Queen Maab uncurled her fingers and looked down into the palm of her hand. Three small acorns lay there, all three enscribed with a unique rune - DIE, SLEEP, ATONE.
"The choice you should have made, will now be left to others," she said, her voice tainted with a raw sadness. "Let the runes grow where they may. I have done all I can. I can do no more."
The three acorns dropped listlessly from her hand, where the ground swallowed them, and their power spread. The elven woman's head turns and looks directly at you, her own rainbow-colored eyes full of tears.
"Listen and choose," she bids you, "Ebyron's power flows across The Wold and it has incited Nature to rebel against the perceived encroachment of civilization upon it--the Culverwood--always a difficult place to exist--has now become a forest most deadly, even to those who were born to it. The jungles that grow elsewhere have accelerated their own growth and have actually attacked the famous floating city of The Wold--the Big Float is in dire peril now! The seas in some places are now actively seeking out manmade vessels and swallowing them whole...the casualty list grows by the day. It is up to you to find the part of Ebyron that has fled to your area--it is up to you to try to stop him and make him listen to reason, for he chooses to believe that my words are motivated by a desire to remain Queen of the Fae."
Suddenly you feel the presence of the three acorns in your own hand.
"Confront him. Reason with him as best you can. Fight him if you must--and choose his fate when your confrontation is over...for the good of The Wold."
And you are suddenly standing inside the exit tunnel from the Bone Tower once more--only each of you has those three acorns from the dream still clutched in your hands.
Figment Tuesday September 6th, 2005 10:02:01 AM
Stunned, the mage holds the acrons in his hand and looks them over a moment, then puts them in a pouch. "Wow, that was insightful...I'd say for now, though, we'd better finish exiting this place, find some form of transport out of here and a way to hide the loot until we do. We can teleport in a day but I doubt we'll have that long.".
Olana Tuesday September 6th, 2005 11:37:47 AM
After helping out with the gem collection, Olana keeps her head down as they move, hopefully, toward the exit of this horrible place. A part of her wants to drop the loot and run. Another, more rational part, just helps with the haul and puts one foot in front of the other. The vision has her stunned. "What's been going on out there while we've been here?" she wonders aloud, squinting closely at the acorns in her hand. "We need to get back home."
Brother Bertram Tuesday September 6th, 2005 8:34:28 PM
Bertram moves along as quickly as possible, considering his load. He keep an eye out for any sign of attack from bandits trying to take what they earned. He plans for his chapel, but even as he does he worries about these acorns...What could that mean?
Milo Tuesday September 6th, 2005 9:03:33 PM
Happy to be free of the tower, Milo's eyes narrow as the otherworldly scene plays through. Not surprised at the appearance of the acorns, he examines each of them. "Each represents a choice, none appear more perilous then the next however. Information is really what we need before making such an important decision." That said, the halfling grabs Olana by the hand, and after gently laying a kiss on her fair knuckles, "Shall we adjourn below my sweet?" He gestures toward the base of the tower even as he begins to move out.
Falin Tuesday September 6th, 2005 10:51:49 PM
"I agree. No sense in jumping to a rash desicion until we get the info."
Falin will follow everyone elses lead.
Gunther Tuesday September 6th, 2005 11:15:37 PM
Gunther jogs along, jingling as he goes. As they are overtaken by the vision, Gunther is unsure as to what it all means. "Ummmm..." he mutters incoherently as he stares at the acorns in his hand. Then he shakes his head and begins to jog along toward the exit.
New Arrival - DM Donna d4=1 Wednesday September 7th, 2005 2:18:27 AM
Even as you deal with what in The Wold that dream vision could have meant, a figure approaches the tower, scrambling up the trail in a hurry--it is about nine feet tall and covered with reddish-black fur. A membrane of black skin stretches from its arms to its legs (from wrist to ankle on each side)...kind of resembling a humanoid bat, of all things. Both the feet and the hands are tipped with claws of some sort, and the head is definitely bat-like, with fangs and large, oversized pointy ears. The creature halts about twenty feet in front of you, suddenly realizing that entry into the tower is blocked by the presence of the Talons...just as exit from the Tower is blocked by the creature.
"I must get into the Tower." The creature says insistently, looking to the sky that is lightening up by the second. "Stand aside and let me in..!" K'Nara's eyes narrow.
"What's the hurry, friend?" she asks. "Once inside, your only way out doesn't reappear for another month--you'll be trapped if you go now."
"I will die if I don't get into the Tower." Insists the bat-creature, becoming agitated.
"You'll starve if you go into the Tower." K'Nara points out.
"Foolish mortal! Ebyron must live! OUT OF MY WAY!!!" roars the avatar of Ebyron, who then screeches at the top of his lungs, emitting a sound that causes all of you to wince with the intensity. Everyone must roll a Fort Save vs DC20 or be stunned for one round.
OOC: The Talons are still in the hall that leads to the outside--it is ten feet wide by ten feet tall. The tunnel leads back into the interior of the tower. Ebyron the bat-creature blocks you from getting out even as your presence keeps him from getting in.
Starting with those closest to the door, the marching order is:
Olana and Milo K'Nara and Gunther Figment and Bertram Ingrge and Lian Falin All the Unseen Servants and their loaded disks
Figment (3 Tensor's Floating Disks) d20+5=16 Wednesday September 7th, 2005 10:13:47 AM
The mage attepts to direct his disks to the side of the tunnel so they are not distubed by the creature. When it screaches it hits him like a physical blow and he just stands there trying to get his bearings (failed save).
Lian d20+13=24 Wednesday September 7th, 2005 10:15:32 AM
The elf looks at the creature and then at K'Nara. "Seems we're at an empass."
The monk shudders at the souond the bat-man makes, but is unaffected. (Fort 24, success)
"I think we can talk this out." The monk moves closer to the creature, hoping to slow his progress to the Tower. "Ebyron is it? What makes the Tower here so special sir? Why must you enter it?"
Brother Bertram 68/84 5d8(3+8+2+6+4)=23 Wednesday September 7th, 2005 1:13:59 PM
Bertram looks at the others, "We dont really have time for this." Bertram prays to Domi again and a ray of light shoots forth at the creature.
(OOC Searing Light-23 Damage)
Olana d20+11=16 Wednesday September 7th, 2005 1:52:10 PM
Olana's face breaks into a smile, relieving some of the tension. Ah, her beloved Milo, was this ordeal over? Was it finally over?
Well of course it wasn't. And this creature now in front of them had to be point blank crazy.
She's half taking a step to the left, perhaps to figure out a way of getting around it, when the thing screeches. Ow..... (Failed Save)
Ingrge d20+16=28 Wednesday September 7th, 2005 7:05:50 PM
Moving along at the best clip possible, Ingrge feels like he was slapped in the face when the vision assaults his senses. Shaking his head at the fools who actually went ahead and woke Ebryon, Ingrge makes his choice and is about to let the other two acorns fall when he is somewhat suprised by the appearance of the creature.
Issuing instructions to the servants to get out of the way and to take the disks with them Ingrge resists the barrage of sound (DC 28)and steps forward to address the beast.
"Friend, I have known of your master for a long time and recognized that the time has past for his full interaction in the Wold. Ebyron should never have been re-awoken. The Current Wold is far to fragile a place for one as mighty as he. Asleep he will still have some power over the Wold as he did before, and those that have woken with him will still be awake to remain as a reminder of his power. I do not wish his death and to atone for what he is, is not correct even to my mind. The choice is there for him to make. what good is it for him to live if everything else should wither and die?"
As he finishes speaking he physically shows the beast that he chooses sleep over death or atonement.
Milo d20+12=13 Wednesday September 7th, 2005 8:54:11 PM
Milo stands dazed as the horrible looking creature screeches its protest. (OOC: Failed save miserably)
Falin d20+7=23 Wednesday September 7th, 2005 9:08:27 PM
Falin makes his save (23), but still has to shake his head a bit in order to clear it.
"Creature, you should see the reasoning behind what Ingrge says. It is the right and noble path to follow."
Combat Round 1 - DM Donna d20+11=23 d20+8=15 d20+12=14 d20+16=29 d20+16=30 Thursday September 8th, 2005 1:27:08 AM
(OOC: rolled the Fort Save for Bert, as he neglected to do so in his post. He is not stunned because his result is 23.
Rolled for Gunther, as he didn't post. Gunther is stunned because his result is 15.)
K'Nara, who was normally a very sturdy human, finds herself stunned by Ebyron's screech--as are Figment, Olana and Milo.
"I must get into the Tower!" Ebyron practically growls in answer to Lian's question. "I must survive no matter how Maab tries to kill me!"
Bertram must roll to overcome Spell Resistance 30 to see if his Searing Light did any damage.
"FOOLS!" snarls the bat-being, its clawed hands curling into fists. "I have NO master--that is why Maab wishes my death! I will NOT bow to her silly notion of the 'noble' races of my Wold being allowed to follow their whims and destroy the nature that was meant to rule the planet. Now out of my way!!!" Ebyron ignores Ingrge and Falin's speeches and, instead, he backhands Milo (ooc: hits AC29) so that the stunned halfling smacks against the side of the tunnel. His other hand raises to administer a blow to Olana...but something about the female elf stays his hand--briefly. Instead, then, he reaches out and grabs her, literally tossing her over his shoulder to land, sprawling on the ground, about twenty feet behind him.
"I'll say this once more, mortals..." Ebyron demands, "...out of my way..!"
(OOC: Ebyron has Spell Resistance 30 and is AC20 (touch AC15) if anyone can/will attack him.)

The monk takes offense to the creature tossing Olana and Milo, then charges into the bat-thing. (Hitting AC 34(crit 31) and 21[+2 from charge], for 26 and 15 damage, both stunning attacks, Fort DC 21 or be stunned) "Now see, we tried to be diplomatic and now your going to have to die. We don't take kindly to folks who flip out on us for asking questions. There's no need to worry about Maab now!"
The monk prepares for another round of attacks and a burrage from the beast.
Falin Thursday September 8th, 2005 9:24:15 AM
"I can tolerate alot, but one thing I can not tolerate is complete and utter rudeness. And I will do anything to ensure the continued breathing of my friends."
Falin will choose the Die acorn as he pulls out his bow and readies a shot at the attacker.
Figment Thursday September 8th, 2005 4:08:42 PM
Recovering from the massive sound attack, the mage holds up an acorn. "I vote you atone. It is what Maab wishes - not your death...".
Olana d20+19=38 Thursday September 8th, 2005 6:51:55 PM
"Oooh!" gasps Olana, flying through the air, toppling and coming to land (REFLEX CHECK DC 38), crouched low on toes, left knee and right hand. What on earth? She shakes her head, struggling against the previous sound onslaught. What? This was Ebyron? Like in the vision? But what were they supposed to do? Wait. The acorns. She looks down at her clenched left fist. Opens it. Die? No. Never. Oh Gods what a mess this was. Who would have imagined. So out of control.
Olana struggles to her feet. She discards the DIE and ATONE pods. SLEEP. yes. But how were they supposed to use these things?
Milo Thursday September 8th, 2005 9:08:44 PM
Shaking himself free from the stunning effect of the screech, Milo stands, and dropping two of the acorns, palms the one that says sleep, "You need not worry about death, but you're crazed, and you should SLEEP on this, before being too hasty."
Gunther (AC 24 HP 81/83 Dodge vs. Ebryon) d20+17=30 d8+8=15 Thursday September 8th, 2005 10:39:19 PM
Gunther shakes his head. That thing packs a whallup!! As Olana is thrown aside, Gunther pulls out his acorns, allowing die and atone to fall to the ground. "For von who yields such pover, you are very hasty. You need to learn your place in the Vold. As my friend Milo has said, it is time for you to sleep!"
Snapping his fingers, Gunther's sword appears in his hands, and he moves forward and hacks at the beast, slicing nicely into it's chest (AC 30 for 15).
Combat Round 2 - DM Donna Friday September 9th, 2005 1:01:44 AM
Lian bursts through the ranks of the Talons and attacks the nine-foot-tall Ebyron, his blows landing solidly and doing obvious damage...yet somehow the monk gets the feeling that nature itself is lending this bat-creature protection, as he seems to be amazingly immune to the Stunning effects of Lian's attacks!
Gunther's sword bites deep as well, causing the large bat-humanoid to bleed heavily, its lifeblood spilling on the ground.
"Maab wishes you no ill, Ebyron, if you'd but believe it." K'Nara says as she draws her own sword. "All life that has the ability to think for itself should have the freedom of choice--your insistence upon thinking for The Wold is what can ultimately destroy it, for you know that you sway yourself by whim, not by logic."
"Foolish human!" Ebyron scoffs. "I have countless eons of experience, while your very race has existed for merely the span of one blink of my eye...none of the 'noble races' can possibly make their own decisions! But I will live, woman, in the sanctuary provided by the Tower--and I will get to it if I must kill you all!!!"
Even as he says this, the blood that drips steadily on the rocky soil begins to boil, making the flinty earth bubble in an effect that radiates out about ten feet around him (thus effecting Gunther and Lian, as they have closed with Ebyron.)
Gunther and Lian find that the ground has become mud and will require them to make Strength checks versus DC20 to move or maneuver. Their lack of mobility also gives them a -2 penalty on their AC.
"To me, my allies..!!!" cries Ebyron to the sky. "Your King is need of aid..!"
His voice echoes eerily up and out of the craggy area, its only result seeming to be the ominous roll of thunder from an ever-brightening sky...
Figment Friday September 9th, 2005 8:19:28 AM
Understanding the incredible power of their opponent, the mage yells to the others "Vote, people. You can't kill him with your swords. We'll quickly be destroyed! Vote!!!".

Gunther is held fast by the mud at his feet (Str.=11), but that doesn't bother him too much. This is exactly where he wanted to be anyway. He swings his sword viciously at the bat creature, striking true twice (AC 25 for 15, AC22 for 10). "You tink yourself a god, but you act like a child!! You cannot listen to reason. De Vold is better off vith you gone!" Gunther stands fast, even in the face of the newcomers. Partly because he is stuck fast...but more so he knows that he must take out this freak of nature.
Combat Round 3 - DM Donna d4=2 Saturday September 10th, 2005 1:22:33 AM
Figment urges everyone to vote, and Lian casts his ballot.
Ingrge's spell saps Ebyron of some of his strength, causing the King of the Fae to bellow with anger and loss.
Brother Bertram, Falin and Gunther strike quickly, each of them drawing more blood from the wounded form of Ebyron.
"Ignorant man!" Ebyron howls. "I am The Wold...'twas I who brought forth the forests, the fields...the deserts, the snows...the sea and the glaciers! I saw fit to bless this place with Nature's bounty, and Nature itself succors me! To rid The Wold of me is to rid The Wold of life!"
"That's something that you seem to have no trouble ordering or just plain doing yourself." K'Nara pointed out, stepping back five feet and trading out her sword for her bow. "Your inability to even try to control yourself has threatened the lives of those whom believed in you enough to wake you up in the first place! Stop your flight and face up to the consequences like the King you claim to be!"
"Ebyron will live!" counters the batlike humanoid, screeching once more. All PCs must make a Fort Save vs DC20 or be stunned for two rounds.
Figment (3 Tensor's Floating Disks) d20+5=21 Saturday September 10th, 2005 11:13:28 AM
The mage barely keeps his wits about him as Elbryon screams again. Seeing this is not going well, he tries a different tactic. "Please Elbron, we need you. We need nature to survive! Can we not live together? Can we not both survive? Must we choose to fight you instead of work with you? Has it come to that?". The mage prepares to cast, but clearly doesn't want to engage an immortal.
Milo Saturday September 10th, 2005 11:59:59 AM
Seeing no point in combatting a creature of near deific proportions, the halfing races over to Olana, "Are you okay? I was afraid he seriously hurt you." Turning to the others, he joins in Figment's sentiment, shouting, "YOU MUST VOTE OR DIE TRYING TO STOP THIS GUY!!!!" Milo does his best to stay clear of the combat, and keep Olana safe as well.

Though the screech is loud, Gunther merely blows it off (Fort=23). He still can't move out of the mud (Str.=13), but again, that doesn't particularly bother him. There is a brief flicker of movement, as Gunther's hands, curled around his sword handle, move up and down, signaling a mouth flapping open and shut. "You talk too much!" Gunther jeers as he attacks the bat once more. The creature proves to be rather tricky, and Gunther finds that he can only connect once. But, oh what a hit! Gunther slams his sword into Ebyron slicing deeply into the creature (AC32/27 for confirmed crit. 22hp dam).

Olana d20+11=17 Monday September 12th, 2005 8:36:12 PM
Olana blinks at Milo for a moment. "I'm okay. Just a bit shook up." She glances down at the acorn in her hand, the one that says SLEEP. "What are we supposed to do, shout it out loud to make it work? SLEEP!" she yells. "Milo, we can't kill him, we just can't," she says, visibly upset and panicy, especially with Gunther whaling away and Ingrge frying everything in sight. "But how do we make him lis -?" Assaulted by the screech, she clamps her hands to her ears, to no avail. (Failed Save - stunned.)

Milo's advance towards Olana takes only a single step forward before Ebyron's screech stuns him, Olana and Lian. K'Nara winces at the sound but is not otherwise effected (OOC: she made her save with 24.)
"We were told to confront you, and--if necessary--fight you...it's obvious that you don't wish to listen, so..." The tall bladesinger draws an arrow and lets it fly, followed by a second missile. (OOC: first arrow hits AC26 for 4hpd. Second arrow misses.)
"We are here, my King!!!" cries a high-pitched voice. Flying into view come four pixies, each of them armed with a bow and arrows. They take aim at Olana (hits AC22), Gunther (hits AC28), Ingrge (hits AC19) and K'Nara (hits AC16).
Any PC who got successfully hit by the pixie arrows must make a Fort save versus DC20 or fall asleep as per the Sleep spell description (yes, even elves--these are very SPECIAL arrows made/blessed by Ebyron himself.)
"All of Nature must aid me!!!" screams Ebyron, whose outburst seems to evoke the onset of a sudden Sleet Storm upon the assembled Talons, rendering vision useless.

The mage sighs at Elbryon's intent resolve. He blasts him with a ray of green energy (112 DMG - disintigrate - Ranged touch of 26). "You leave us no choice...who hasn't voted?!?!".
Gunther (AC 28 HP 81/83 Dodge vs. Ebryon) d20+8=22 Tuesday September 13th, 2005 11:40:41 AM
The warrior rolls his eyes as the pixie arrow strikes him...his hearty fortitude having no problems negating the spell (Fort.=22). When the sleet storm arrives, blocking his vision, Gunther decides to use the opportunity to further protect himself. He activates his animated shield and waits for the storm to pass. He sighs as he feels ice form over his mud covered boots, knowing that it's going to be even harder to pull himself free. Hopefully the Ebryon fellow would be a good little boy and stay right where he is.
OOC Oops. Gunther's AC should have been 24 instead of 22. Oh well, it wouldn't have made a difference.

(OOC- It was not posted, but was there some sort of effect from Ingrge's last attack?)
Ingrge ignores the arrows, as a minor nuisance, as they all go whizzing by him and concentrates on locating Ebyron Concentrate DC 28, search Dc 24, spot Dc 28 nat 20.
If he can locate where he is Ingrge cast another spell, this time trying to enforce his will upon the avatar and turn him into a four inch long catapillar. baneful polymorph, SR 28, Fortitude Dc 24, will dc 24.
DM Donna Tuesday September 13th, 2005 10:01:43 PM
My apologies to the players--any attack and/or spell that overcomes the stated ACs and SR does, indeed, seem to be effecting this bat-like form of Ebyron...it's just that he has a LOT of hit points. He's starting to get annoyed.
Olana AC 30 Tuesday September 13th, 2005 11:46:54 PM
By chance, Olana stumbles away past the pixie arrows as she tries to get closer to the others. Right now she couldn't hear herself talk. Stunned this round.

Combat Round 5 - DM Donna Wednesday September 14th, 2005 11:04:46 PM
Figment and Ingrge are unable to launch their spells as intended because they can no longer see effectively (thanks to that Sleet Storm).
Both Falin and K'Nara hold off on firing arrows while they can't see, and Gunther prepares himself for more battle.
"Your Majesty! The enemy is blinded...but we can't see them to shoot our arrows at them, either..!" one of the pixies reminds Ebyron.
"Aye, faithful ones..." booms Ebyron, "...I am summoning forth more of your kin to aid us in battle..!" The storm rages for another few seconds, but when it stops, Ebyron is now standing shoulder-to-shoulder with two large mounds of earth and rocks that appear vaguely bipedal.
Spellcraft checks versus DC12 to tell that you're now facing two large Earth Elementals as well as Ebyron and four pixies.
Milo Thursday September 15th, 2005 12:38:53 AM
Collapsed to his knees, Milo remains stunned by the shout of the fae-lord.
Kent d20+12=32 Thursday September 15th, 2005 7:04:53 AM
(2 summonings and a sleet spell in the same round? even if he can cast three spells or even two the summoning spells are full round spells and shouldn't appear until the end of this round.)
With his will already drawn and spell ready to release Ingrge is nearly frustrated by his lack of a visible opponent, when the sleet storm suddenly stops. Spotting Ebyron almost immediately he releases his spell trying to enforce his will upon the avatar and turn him into a four inch long catapillar. baneful polymorph, SR 32 (natural 20), Fortitude Dc 24, will dc 24.
(DM OOC: Ebyron summoned the pixies in round 2 and they materialized in round 3; he invoked the Sleet Storm in round 4 and now has been able to get two earth elementals to form up in round 5. What can I say?...he IS a god-like force of The Wold.)

Noting the arrival of the big stone critters, Gunther yanks at his legs in ernest, and finally manages to free them (Str.=21). Deciding that this needs to end quickly, Gunther launches a full attack on the bat. His sword arcs through the air with lethal precision, carving into Ebryon three times (AC21 for 12, AC22 for 14, AC28 for 14). He decides to keep his mouth shut for now.
Figment (3 Tensor's Floating Disks) Thursday September 15th, 2005 11:11:02 AM

Yelling above the winds of the sleet storm Falin cries out, "I think it is a little late to just let him by. He may be a little miffed about the damage we have dealt him. We could head back into the tower."
Ingrge Thursday September 15th, 2005 4:53:34 PM

Olana Thursday September 15th, 2005 10:21:23 PM

"What - what's Lian saying? Something about his coat?" she yells over at Milo.
She is completely baffled - head still ringing, snow storm, spells flashing about, and what on earth were those two mounds of earth?
Combat Round 6 - DM Donna d20+9=25 Friday September 16th, 2005 1:21:39 AM
"He's blocking our way out!" K'Nara yells, her bow still at the ready. "Besides, Maab warned that he's just too chaotic to let him run around loose--we must finish confronting him and THEN vote!"
Milo, Lian and Olana finally feel the grip of the Stunning cry loosen from them.
Ingrge's spell--miraculously enough--strikes Ebyron and the huge bat-like form is shrunk down to the size of a caterpillar!
"GRAB HIM!!!" screams K'Nara, dropping her bow and arrow and launching herself forward, both hands scrabbling for the miniscule King of the Fae...and--in an extension of Ingrge's miracle--captures the nigh-helpless Ebyron. (OOC: she managed to roll a 25 versus the new form of Ebyron's AC24.)
The pixies pop out of existence.
The animated piles of dirt and stone crumble back to the earth from which they'd sprung.
The mud becomes dry but loose soil, so that those trapped in it can more easily pull themselves out.
And everyone can hear the high-pitched wail of the lowly caterpillar in K'Nara's hand.
"Would you slay the only hope of natural life in The Wold..?" the creature asks of the leader of the Emerald Talons. "No." K'Nara says firmly. "I am a blade singer, and you are a helpless foe, honorably defeated in combat. It is against the code to slay the helpless and unarmed."
~POOF!~ The caterpillar is gone, but--kneeling before you--is the satyr-form of Ebyron.
"You all worked together and defeated me." Ebyron says sadly. "Thus my fate is in your hands--now those rune-encrusted icons from the hands of Maab have their power...you need but toss the ones that bear your decison at my feet, and I am bound to obey the majority. But...before you do so...I would plead my case to you, for I don't think you've heard my side of the events that have happened 'round The Wold. Would you hear me out..?"
K'Nara looks around at the others.
"I know that I haven't voted as of yet--but do any of you wish to hear Ebyron's words? Or will you have your votes stand as they are..?"
Lian Friday September 16th, 2005 8:13:42 AM
Lian looks at the more appealing form Ebyron has taken and says, "My vote remains the same. However, I suggest when you return to power next time, you take a form more appealing to the Woldian people. That way they are less likely to attack you unprovoked." The hand of Domi smiles. "Truth be told, I enjoy this form MUCH better."
"My vote stands. As an elf, the shear fact nature has an avatar of sorts is wonderful. But as a follower of Domi, I think the Gods should have final say. I say sleep."
Figment (3 disks) Friday September 16th, 2005 12:10:21 PM
Faced with the unheard of prospect of hearing from an immortal, the mage states "I would love to hear you speak. I will withdraw my vote and hold it until I have heard what you have to say.".
Ingrge Friday September 16th, 2005 4:58:40 PM
I too would listen to what you say, though I doubt it will change my decision.
However we must do so away from here and back in the Wold. If we stay here much longer we will be unable to leave at all.
Talons we must get out of here now. we can talk and listen later. If that will not work then we decide now and move on.
Brother Bertram 68/84 Friday September 16th, 2005 6:05:21 PM
Bertram listened to the creature's words. "We will always be willing to listen to both sides. I will listen to his response, once we leave this place. I dont suppose this creature could gate us home?"
Milo Friday September 16th, 2005 8:43:11 PM
Finally coming out of the stunning effect of the fae-lord's screech, Milo crosses his arms, "I'm listening."
Olana Friday September 16th, 2005 11:17:28 PM
"I'm listening, too," says Olana, after exclaiming "Don't squash it!" to K'Nara as she picks up the caterpillar.
Falin Friday September 16th, 2005 11:35:14 PM
"I will listen too fey lord. Make it good."
Gunther Saturday September 17th, 2005 12:39:32 AM
The warrior frowns. "More vords. Too many vords." One look at K'nara, and Gunther's tone softens. "Yes, ve need to be free of dis place first, but den I vill listen."
The Fae King's Tale - DM Donna Saturday September 17th, 2005 4:34:24 PM
"I was here before there was anything else...there was only nature, and I am the embodiment of that vital force of The Wold. But I was lonely and created Maab. With her by my side, we started our family of fae. I was happy, even though there had sprung up in The Wold those beings that you call the Noble Races.
"At first the Noble Races lived in harmony with the nature of The Wold. I concentrated more on Maab and my growing family. But then tribes of the Races began to destroy vast areas of natural beauty in order to create what they called 'civilization'...this annoyed me and I was compelled to bolster nature in those areas that I felt needed it.
"It was during this era that Maab met with a powerful outside source--one that convinced her that my natural seniority over her and the other Fae was a bad thing. He told her that she should be able to decide things for herself instead of obeying my every command--as though my Wold-wide wisdom and natural instincts were not enough for her to know that whatever I did was right. I'm sorry to say that my queen listened to his lies and came to believe that self-determination was something that she and the Noble Races were entitled to." Ebyron scowls, then returns to his narrative.
"I was too busy trying to get the latest generation of people to heed the edicts of Nature. They would not, so I decided that they needed to see Nature at its most inventive and intensely efficient. I gave a human named Gargulus the power to evolve the sub-human races to a point where they, too, thought for themselves and could create things...horrible weapons and strategies that could--and did--destroy many tribes of the Noble races.
"The newly-evolved sub-humans were a scourge to the face of The Wold! The Noble Races rallied to fight them...but they seemed to not learn the lesson I meant for them--and that Gargulus went on to become a very big problem for the leaders at that time to overcome." Ebyron frowns, unable to see how his point was lost.
"Maab decided that I was being too foolish and impulsive to continue to interfere with The Wold on a direct basis...so she managed to gather the power to put me to sleep."
Ebyron takes in a deep breath.
"It was the call of my long-lost children--the elves of The Wold--that woke me from my sleep. They bemoaned the fate of the natural Wold at the hands of those who were blind to its true beauty and begged me to champion Nature once again...and so I have!
"I have driven out the evil that is Parnoth from the heart of the Culverwood...I have attacked the encroaching bastions of civilization that would threaten the natural jungle...I have defended those who would protect Nature and its minions. I have returned to be the Father to all who would live in The Wold."
"But you've also driven the natives from the Culverwood, as well." K'Nara points out. "Parnoth has been pushed back to his city--but the elves that made the Culverwood their home can't safely stay there, for your plants and animals have become very aggressive. And the jungles have actually sought out and attempted to pull the Big Float out of the sky...as far as I remember, Ebyron, the Floating City never encroached on ANY natural preserve of The Wold--it floats harmlessly above the planet...or, at least, it DID...until the trees literally lassoed the city from the sky. How is THAT promoting a natural state in The Wold..?"
For a moment, Ebyron's face grows dark with rage...but then K'Nara's question seems to have an effect on him.
"It...it doesn't." the satyr finally admits in a shamefaced tone. "I am, in a sense, the Father of The Wold...but you have just reminded me of one of the most important laws of Nature: fathers and mothers raise their children knowing that, one day, the children will fly the nest. And I...have been refusing to let my children fly." His muscled shoulders slump.
"It is much to ask of you, I know, but I would rather live to make up for my selfish attitude." he says humbly. "I realize that I was convinced that only my opinion was the one worthy of heeding, and that The Wold doesn't need for me to force my will upon it anymore...but I know that The Wold does need me to help undo the damage I've caused." He looks away and then back.
"I would like to offer my abilities towards that end...but it IS up to you." With this, Ebyron, King of the Fae, bows his head and awaits the judgement of the Emerald Talons.
Please indicate your PC's final vote in your next post by having him or her drop their acorn at Ebyron's feet. (Or, rather, knees, as he's kneeling now.)
Falin d20=9 Sunday September 18th, 2005 3:21:27 PM
"What you say king has merit. I do believe that you will be needed to write any wrongs that have been committed. I would like to see you make ammends by helping out."
Falin takes the ATONE acorn out and casts it at the knees of the king.
Brother Bertram Sunday September 18th, 2005 7:53:44 PM
Bertram already on his knees smiles at the creature, Life is nothing but making our world better, my friend. Why should it be any different for other creatures, even one as powerful as you? I would see you atone for this and make this a better place to be for all." Bertram reaches out a gnarled fist. "I am sorry I struck at you Noble One. Would you forgive a foolish dwarf? I would know the Ebyron of the tales of my childhood.
Lian Monday September 19th, 2005 8:39:09 PM
Take the acorn and casts his new vote.
OOC: As a piece of personal information, my father was in a motorcycle wreck and is in critical condition, so I likely won't post much this week.
Ingrge Monday September 19th, 2005 10:02:51 PM
Ebyron, I am one of those elven children you so blythely prattle on about and many of us, myself included, did not choose to have you woken, as we feared what havoc, your power, fully wakened would wreak upon the Wold. As we feared, it was too much and the Wold now cries out even more for healing. This is what we tried to tell you before, but would not hear and now that we have forced the issue, you are willing to hear and speak with us.
As is true of all generations, it becomes the duty of the child to fix the disasters of their parents. I truely worry about letting your power to be freed upon the Wold even in atonement. I still cast my vote for you to be put back to sleep, allowing your power to be muted and dormant.
Milo Tuesday September 20th, 2005 12:04:16 AM
Reaching down to the ground, Milo retrieves his dropped acorns, and after hearing Ebyron's plea he rethinks his original vote, "I agree with Bertram here. All deserve a second chance, from the mightiest of us, to the meekest. I recieved one the day I joined this group, long ago, and I would be remiss in my duty to the Wold if I didn't give another the same opportunity. I say ATONE." With that, Milo drops the appropriate acorn at Ebyron's knees.
Olana Tuesday September 20th, 2005 12:30:06 AM
Watching Bertram, Falin and Milo, Olana is in a turmoil. NOW Ebyron decided to act like he was supposed to. Were those the words of a wild thing? Oooh, but what if it was a lie? No, surely, something, someone so great.
Quietly, she retrieves her ATONE acorn and places it alongside the others.

Gunther Tuesday September 20th, 2005 2:44:20 PM
Gunther listens impatiently to Ebryon as he tells his story. Nice act. Very impressive. But Gunther is not convenced. Having no elven blood to help sway him, Gunther pulls out the acorn which says "Sleep" and places it Ebryon's feet. "The Vold has suffered enough at your hands already. I vill not condem you to die, but I am not ready to trust you either."

The Die is Cast - DM Donna Tuesday September 20th, 2005 11:00:45 PM
K'Nara looks upon the kneeling King of the Fae.
"I know what it is to make a foolish mistake that you wish you can take back, as well as the anticipation of a harsh judgement," the leader of the Talons says softly, "...I can only hope that--when my time comes to be so judged--mercy shall be present." She drops her acorn in front of Ebyron...
...ATONE...
The Fae King looks up with hope and tears in his eyes, but he fades away before aught else can be done.
Olana Wednesday September 21st, 2005 3:38:16 PM
"What did we just do?" wonders Olana aloud.
Ingrge Wednesday September 21st, 2005 5:56:09 PM
I dont know but we have possibly just kept a power awake that could very well eventually destroy the Wold.
Let's get a move on! We need to move NOW!!
Lian Wednesday September 21st, 2005 7:55:44 PM
Lian moves away with Ingrge.
Milo Wednesday September 21st, 2005 8:31:27 PM
Smiling up at Olana, "We just gave him an opportunity for redemp...rede... to make up for doing wrong. I think that is a good thing. However, I agree with Ingrge about the degree of risk. Nothing worth while is easy though." After giving Olana's hand a squeeze, Milo gently leads her away from the necromancer's abode, following Ingrge.
Brother Bertram Wednesday September 21st, 2005 9:26:08 PM

Confused, the warrior hustles out, not wanting to be sealed up for eternity in this place.
Exit, Stage Left...Right? - DM Donna Thursday September 22nd, 2005 11:06:35 AM
Knowing that time is of the essence, the Talons begin to hustle the last few feet to freedom, with Olana (by virtue of her forced relocation via Ebyron's tossing her behind him) leading the way out. The beautiful elf maid takes no more than two steps beyond the doorway when the first shaft of sunlight strikes the outer wall of Bone Tower behind her.
To everyone's horror, the doorway out suddenly shimmers--the familiar rocky landscape disappears, leaving in its wake a misty, alien scene that seems to glow with a weird lavender light...
...and Olana is nowhere in sight!
Falin Thursday September 22nd, 2005 5:19:43 PM
"Oh no. Not again. I was getting used to being in the nice parts of the Wold again."
Milo Thursday September 22nd, 2005 9:56:54 PM
Milo stops dead in his tracks, and speechless looks around. The halfling is genuinely shocked as he checks faces to make sure that his eyes aren't playing tricks on him. Then with a shaky voice, "Um guys?" Practically screaming, "What in the name of Gargul's codpiece, happened to Olana?!?" The halfling seems on the verge of drawing a weapon, as his face contorts into a snarl.
Olana Friday September 23rd, 2005 12:10:23 AM
The elf agrees heartily with Milo and smiles. "Okay, lets get out before we're stuck here," she says, and strides forward to the outside. She's about to add something when all of a sudden, she gets an odd feeling. Turning around, she sees, to her horror, that the others have disappeared.
She tries to retrace her steps. She calls out everyone's names. She realizes, with shock, that somehow, they'd got separated. After a short period of panic, she figures that maybe one of the mages could have tried to teleport everyone back home, and that she'd been missed. A long shot, but out of the other alternative possibilites that came up, each one was scarier than the next. So, they were heading for home, so maybe that's where they were, safe and sound. Okay, no problem, she'd have to go the long way. She takes a quick survey of her surroundings, gets her bearings, and sets off back home, on foot.
((OOC - see you guys and gals in a few weeks. I'll miss you!))
Gunther Friday September 23rd, 2005 12:41:24 AM
"OLANA!!" the warrior screams as the maiden disappears. Growling in frustration, Gunther heads toward where the exit used to be, bent on smashing down the first thing in sight.
Where in The Wold..? - DM Donna Friday September 23rd, 2005 1:17:37 AM
Shock and dismay abound not just for Falin, Milo, Olana and Gunther...
The oaths that issue from K'Nara's mouth are enough to make the paint blister and peel...only the stone walls of the tunnel are not painted.
"Olana didn't disappear, Milo..." the tall blade singer says with a grimace, "...the rest of us did. Our exit out to The Wold is now gone." She turns to look back the way that the party had come, then gasps in shock:
A palpable darkness is literally consuming the passageway back to the Bone Tower--causing a lone rat to attempt to flee before it. The inky coalescense overtakes the creature, and the party hears the soul-chilling scream of the rodent for an agonizing moment before it is suddenly cut off with abrupt finality.
Now the Talons must quickly decide to either brave the inpenetrable threat of the nothingness behind them, or venture forth into the unknown, eerie landscape in front of them...
Lian Friday September 23rd, 2005 3:45:03 AM
Lian is logical about the situation. "Well, Falin left, returned and now Olana is gone... seems the Talons make their departures in odd ways."
Falin Friday September 23rd, 2005 9:53:45 AM
"The last time I went someplace the worst part was not knowing if the next person I wouild see was friend or foe. During my time in Fae Skeimir I had to learn to band up with anyone, "Falin leans in further, "And I do mean anyone. In order to survive."
He backs away a bit and then glances at each of the party. "The nice thing about this adventure is that I am here with friends this time instead of alone. I believe that together we can deal with anything."
Falin motions out into the eerie landscape in front of the group. "Let us go out and see what we can see. We will find a way back. Look at me. I have dissapeared twice with this group and always found my way back." He says with a wink and a smile, "Personally I can wait to spend that treasure."
Brother Bertram Friday September 23rd, 2005 1:26:21 PM
Angry and worried over the loss of Olana, Bertram growls at Falin, "Wait and see if we escape this fetid place before you spend that loot, Friend Falin." He glances worriedly back at the encroaching darkness. "We need to get out of here Friends"
Gunther Friday September 23rd, 2005 10:44:07 PM
There is a brief flicker of a smile on Gunther's face as K'nara lets loose with the profanities. She looks so hot when she's mad!! He is half way tempted to go up and kiss her again...to taste her sweet lips once more... But the rat's scream reminds him of the seriousness of the situation. With a nod, Gunther heads off into the landscape in front of them...sword instantly in hand. He looks over at Ingrge. "Vhy can't ve just teleport out of here like ve did vhen ve chased after de voman?" he asks naively.
Into the Unknown - DM Donna Saturday September 24th, 2005 1:21:13 AM
K'Nara's hazel eyes widen in horror--the darkness was EATING all within the tunnel!
"MOVE! NOW!!!" the tall redhead bellows, then--not even waiting for Gunther to assimilate the order--she plants her foot onto his backside and shoves the big, burly fighter out through the doorway. She then throws herself after him. "Out of the tunnel, Talons! MOVE!!!"
Brother Bertram Saturday September 24th, 2005 8:04:06 PM
Bertram makes sure everyone is out, bringing up the rear. With Olana already missing, he vowed to leave no one behind.
Lian (Jay B) Sunday September 25th, 2005 3:59:34 AM
OOC: Sorry guys and gals, things in real life hit fast in the last two weeks. I will return to a regular schedule around the 1st of October.
Ingrge Sunday September 25th, 2005 8:56:58 AM
Hustling forward shocked at Olanna's disapearance, Ingrge starts moving faster than what would be deemed needed. It is almost as if something is driving him t get back.
Lian(Mark) Sunday September 25th, 2005 3:37:20 PM
Lian hurries out with the others, hoping the darkness doesnt overtake them.
Gunther Monday September 26th, 2005 12:49:41 AM
The warrior feels a rush of excitement as K'nara give him the boot. Ooooh yeah...she totally digs me!!! Grining, Gunther sprints out of the tunnel...completely intent on showing a little over due loveing to the bladesinger once they're free.
Milo Monday September 26th, 2005 10:22:27 PM
Milo bolts for the exit, though his face still holds an expression of shocked disbelief.
